Figurative Language In Homer s The Odyssey
The Odyssey is a greek mythology adventure with many short stories inside of it. There were many
different themes expressed throughout the stories, often through figurative language. In The Odyssey,
Homer used figurative language to express theme by using different literary devices such as
personification and hyperboles.
One of the literary devices Homer used to express a theme in the Odyssey is personification. For
example, in the story The Cyclops , Homer wrote When the young Dawn with fingertips of rose lit up
the world... (Line 252 253). This quote was personification because it gave Dawn the human quality
of fingertips. This use of personification expressed the theme of patience, because Odysseus and his

Computer System Upgrading
Issue:
Due to the rapid technological advances in computer systems as well as operating systems in the
business world, we must upgrade our computer systems throughout our company in order to gain an
edge on our competitors. We need to replace the central processing units in every division of our
company with newer units that are in line with the most sophisticated computer systems also being
used by every one of our competitors.
Background:
The computers currently in question have been in use for approximately 12 months as of November
2011. The computers we currently use are of lower quality and were most likely purchased at a
bargain price. The result of this approach has been a computing system that is quite unreliable. Since
the beginning of the summer of 2012, employees have reported a number of technological setbacks
including:
Malfunctioning audio cards
Inadequate Memory
Failed ventilation.
Malfunctioning power supplies.
Audio card malfunction continues to be an on going problem with the current computer systems in our
company and in many situations our computers are rendered completely useless when the job requires
sound. Failed ventilation also continues to be a huge problem with many, if not all, of the computers
used throughout our company. When computer fans malfunction, it can cause the computer to
overheat and permanently damage it and all of the information in it, which raises a drastic level of
concern due to the fact that we store all of our

Women In The Catholic Church
The Sacrament of Holy Orders explains the Catholics who are consecrated to serve and how they
differentiate between themselves. A common understanding of priesthood is that God gives his power
and authority to provide the ordinances of salvation. While this may be true, many people are not
aware of what other roles priests take on and represent. The word Holy , in Holy Orders , means
sacred and worthy of respect or devotion. While, the word order appoints an established community or
group with a hierarchy, in this case God being the hierarch. In modern times like these the majority of
people know that becoming a part of the priesthood is a decision one makes and then enters into a
process. Though this may be true now, many do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Do this in remembrance of me , signifies a deep meaning that Jesus wanted the priesthood to
understand and practice. With these words he not only established the Eucharist and priesthood, he set
a tone for the entirety of the Catholic Church. They would no longer rely on practices like animal
sacrifice or hereditary lineage, but on grace and salvation. During the same ceremony, Jesus also
grants the apostles and in turn priesthood, the ability the power to forgive sins. While many people
know that men of the priesthood have this ability, it is not very well known that it was given to them
by Jesus in the same evening. In fact, I thought they simply had this ability because they are supposed
to represent God here on earth and therefore would have this power, not that Jesus Christ himself
directly gave them this ability. The ability to consecrate, offer and minister the Body and Blood of
Christ, was also given to priests by

Cultural Foundations Of Denmark And Their Effects On...
This paper aims to define cultural foundations in Denmark, and examine their effects on various
business practices in this country from management practices to communication, conflict
management, performance appraisal, leadership styles, relationship between managers and employees,
ethical behavior, and motivation and reward systems. Understanding the basis of the culture helps to
form better business relationships, effectively communicate with companies and workers in this
country, and become a more efficient trading partner. Danish companies have different approaches in
business management compared to US companies, and emphasize on distinct core values. The
relationship between companies and consumers in Denmark also affects the values and behavior of
these companies. The method of communication, conflict management, and motivation in Danish
companies is not the same as US companies and understanding these differences can help better
navigate and achieve results when dealing with Danish trading partners. Various sources, including the
official website of Denmark, journal articles and papers by Danish universities have been used to
collect information about cultural differences and their effects in business environment in Denmark.

Eminem Evaluation
Evaluation of Marshall Bruce Mathers the third also know as Eminem after being arrested for carrying
a concealed weapon without a license and assault with a deadly weapon. The night in question is June
4th 2000 in Michigan at the Hard Rocks Cafe. Eminem became aggravated after witnessing his wife
Kim Mathers kissing another man by the name of John Guerra on the cheek. Eminem was taken into
custody after the incident and was later release on bond. (Craughwell, 2011, p. 137) Eminem was
abandoned by his father as a newborn and was raised by his mother Debora Mathers. His mother was
unable to hold a job for very long, which forced them to move around to different public housing

In an article by the Rolling Stones, Eminem was asked if he felt that he needed psychotherapy and he
stated, I don t need no shrink. My music is my shrink (Bozza, 2015). His vulgar language and the use
of drugs are often seen as socially acceptable behaviors and are how Eminem seems to express his
feelings. Eminem shows to be in a narcissistic paradox, he shows high self esteem by having too much
pride to admit that he may need therapy. While he still doubts his worth due to having a difficult
childhood which he only feels comfortable expressing in his music and even by him creating an
alternate persona by the name of Slim Shady. The narcissistic tendencies that Eminem exhibits can
relate to his aggression leading him to be facing two felonies, As our results generally demonstrate
that individuals who scored higher on narcissism had more accepting attitudes towards violence, this
suggests that narcissism also predicts more accepting attitudes towards authoritarian aggression in
both males and females. (Blinkhorn, Lyons, Almond, 2016). Eminem s aggravation on the night he
witnessed his wife kissing another man but also is traced back to when he was in high school, While
enrolled at Lincoln High School in Warren, Mathers participated in rap freestyle battles verbal fights
in which the goal was to create the smartest rhymes and the best insults. It was here that Mathers
found his voice and was able to

Overcrowding and Housing in Nineteenth-Century London...
Overcrowding and Housing in Nineteenth Century London
From 1801 to 1851, the population of London grew from under 1 million inhabitants to 2.25 million.
This was due in large part to immigration, both from other countries and from the countryside of
England. Hundreds of thousands of people were moving to the newly industrialized cities and towns
to find work, having been squeezed off the land because of the enclosure of farms. There was also
displacement of the working class within the city of London because of a number of construction
projects. There were street improvement schemes in which tenements were razed in order to widen the
passages. The transformation of part of the city into a non residential district devoted to finance ...

One of every three inhabitants of flats of 4 or less rooms, irrespective of class, were overcrowded. In
1866, the Sanitary Act defined overcrowding as less than 400 cubic feet for each adult living in a room
day and night, or 300 cubic feet for a sleeping room. For children, these dimensions were halved. This
means that a man, woman, and one child living in a room 8 x10 x10 would be considered
overcrowded. For statistical and census purposes, the London City Council ignored cubic capacity,
and counted anything beyond two people per room as overcrowded. Hector Gavin, a lecturer in
forensic medicine at Charing Cross Hospital estimated that if all the windows and doors of a typical
laborers tenement were shut(against the cold, for example), the maximum length a man could survive
before all available oxygen was consumed was seven hours. The Window Tax of 1695, which taxed
any opening in a building s exterior walls, was finally repealed by the first Public Health Act of 1848.
As the problem of overcrowding became more and more evident, several remedies were tried. There
was some individual philanthropy, model dwellings were built by philanthropic capitalists, legislation
was passed prohibiting overcrowding, slums were torn down(which, of course, only worsened the
problem by displacing more people), there was suburban speculative development closely following
the development of the railroad which provided cheap, rapid transit to the newly forming

Don’t Discriminate the Breed
How would you react if you became next to or close to a stray dog? Would you respond by running,
yelling, or even kicking or hitting the animal? Would you respond calmly, call animal control or even
walk away? Just because the dog is mean doesn t make it aggressive. Aggression is such a broad term
and it s not all bad. The four types I am going to address are protective aggression, territorial
aggression, fear motivated aggression, and pain induced aggression. Aggression that happens when a
mother protects a family member whether it is human or another animal is called protective
aggression. Dogs that want to protect/defend their home or area is territorial aggression. An example is
when you dog chases up and down the fence line. When a dog is scared it may protect itself for their
own safety. That is known as fear motivated aggression. This often occurs most then a dog is stuck or
cornered. Pain induced aggression is when a dog is in pain it can respond aggressively. When they do
that it is to try and help their selves but it may injury someone else. That is why when you are
approaching a wounded animal you do so with caution. A lot of people say aggression is random but it
s not. Aggression can be triggered many ways. It is also always response to something in the dog s
environment whether it is an action of a human or the appearance/attitude of another dog. Cesar
Millan says any breed can cause trouble. The difference between an aggressive small breed like a

Into their midst comes John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), a mountainous but child like black man,
convicted of murdering two small children, but whose demeanour leads Edgcomb to believe that
Coffey is innocent. For a while, life on the green mile remains normal, until the day it transpires that
Coffey possesses the ability to heal people through the power of touch. The Green Mile is a 3 hour
film of two halves: firstly, painting a vivid portrait of life on death row, and the trivialities that
brighten up the lives of the people who live and die there. The second half of the movie is given to
exploring Coffey himself: his past, his crime, and his powers. He is initially misunderstood by those
around him, is convicted of a crime he did not commit, he greatly enriches the lives of those around
him, and is eventually executed for refusing to proclaim his own innocence. Much of Thomas
Newman s music is rooted in the sounds of the deep south, with several interesting cues written for an
eclectic ensemble including such weird and wonderful instruments as a bowed travelling guitar, a
Vietnamese banjo, a jaw harp, bass marimbas, a tonut and the omnipresent saz. Occasionally, the
music attains a kind of hypnotic sensibility that draws the listener in, but at other times it

Mandatory Influenza Vaccine Essay
As employees and health care works of well known organizations, we have an ethical and moral
obligation to make decisions and choices that reflect the best interest of the health of our patients.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (2010), mandatory programs should be enforced
for health professionals justifying the need for employees to receive the influenza vaccine. The Joint
Commission believes that an estimated 80% or higher of influenza immunization rates are crucial for
providing the necessary immunity needed to protect and reduce influenza infections or health related
illnesses (The American Academy of Pediatrics, 2010). Voluntary programs consist of having the
vaccine readily available for employees for no cost, providing staff with education on influenza
prevention, and having ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Immunization rates still remain low and hospitals that have voluntary programs in place, are not
seeing the results they would if mandatory vaccine programs were put in to place. A mandatory
influenza vaccine policy is the best solution to this issue and long overdue. Health care associated
influenza occurrences are becoming more common as it contributes to patient mortality and morbidity
(The American Academy of Pediatrics, 2010). Thus, proving even further the need to prevent and
control influenza by putting the health and safety of our patients first. Mandating medical
interventions should never be imposed abruptly, as the rights of health professionals need to be
respected as well. Prominent organizations other then the Infectious Diseases Society of America
(IDSA) have jumped on board and supported the policy of fulfilling a mandatory influenza
immunization policy. Other organizations such as The Joint Commission, the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, APIC, and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America also support
this policy (Sullivan, 2009). Many individuals have common fears and

Kardashian Leadership Qualities
A leader is someone who performs actions in which other people want to model themselves after.
Leaders could be pro athletes, popular musicians but people such the Kardashians are not what I view
as a leader. The pro athletes who are leaders are the ones who are good people on and off the field.
The ones who have their own foundations or charities. I do not believe the Kardashians deserve the
name leader because they do things for themselves and not other people, which is not a quality of a
leader. The two main qualities all leaders should have in common are their approach to inspire, their
ability to lead by example. Being able to inspire people to do what they love makes you a great leader.
Also being able to inspire their team is great

Romeo And Juliet Reflection
Clark, Michael
Mrs.Binion
La11, Period 1
October 2, 2017
Romeo and Juliet, a story about pain and sorrow. A story with ups and downs. Is that why it entertains
us? Do we like to hear about pain and misery and the out come of it, good or bad? Authors have used
these stories since Shakespeare and Logic. Logic is an outlier because of the way he was raised. He
has seen people he loves die and raped in front of him, hated by his mother enough to where she tried
to kill him multiple times and how he got out of it. How he struggled without a high school diploma,
the people he met and how they changed his life.
In Shady Grove Hospital in Rockville, Maryland 7:36 A.M., where a biracial baby was born to a black
father and white mother ( Take it Back, Logic) Sir Robert Bryson Hall II was born. His mother was a
racist who would beat him and constantly talk down to him, even trying to kill him one time. His
father was out of the picture most of his life doing drugs that he got from his sons (Logic s Brothers)
who were Drug dealers and killers. He watched his sisters get raped and wasn t able to do anything. It
was going down hill until 14 year old Robert met his mentor Solomon. He showed Robert life outside
the ghetto and got him interested into rap, even encouraged him to perform.
When Logic turned 17 he got expelled from high school and moved out of his house. He had to
maintain two jobs to support him and his rap career. While not much he would perform for Pitbull and
Ludacris when they came in town. Trying to do both was working for a while but eventually he couldn
t keep up with rent and ended up being homeless He struggled to live and rap until he met his investor
His name is lenny. Lenny met up with Logic after a concert and told him that he believed in the vision
that was Logic and would fund him, he d give him a year to make it. So Robert did it, he released his
first album Young, Broke, Infamous . Because of how much recognition he made, he released the 1st
(out of a trilogy) Young Sinatra. Later he d release the 2nd and 3rd Young Sinatras. Lil Dicky is a
rapper who jokes when he raps. While he can make a good beat and a sick rap it s not the same as a
story which makes the difference in a good rapper.

The Bandar-Logs In The Jungle
In the Jungle Book, KaaÅ› hunting, the Bandar Logs are a replica of bullies. The words they say

don´t care. They monkeys also treat other animals discourteously. The Bandar Logs act like humans
that can t control themselves. They are selfish, conniving animals who try too hard to get noticed but
instead of getting noticed in a good way, they are losing respect. Bandar Logs are bullies. In the book,
the words the Bandar Logs say proves that they think they are better than everybody else. ¨ What the
Bandar Logs think now the jungle will think later is one of the many idiotic quotes that these in denial

Kipling says that the monkeys torture hurt or sick animals when they see them. They throw nuts at
them and tease them. Bullies sometimes hurt people and them laugh at them when they see that they

the Bandar Logs do is they throw nuts on animals just anywhere. In the story it says that the monkeys
would swing in the sky and throw nuts on animals just for entertainment. ItÅ› like they do not even
care. My last example is that they even kidnapped Mowgli. They only did that so people can notice
them and because they needed him for there own problems. They thought Mowgli was the solution but
they never thought, or cared, how this kidnapping could affect other people. The fight at the end of the

The Threat Of A Terrorist Attack
The constant threat of a terrorist attack is something that not only the United States has to worry about
when it comes to economic and political conditions but other countries also. Terrorist groups have
continued to threaten to harm innocent people or infrastructures at all cost. One way that terrorist can
disrupt the United States economy is an attack on a major shipping port and disrupting their
operations. This could cripple part of the United States because many of our states depend on the
cargo that is brought in and out of our ports. The United States import many different goods from
countries around the world. The following is the top imports from Japan alone :
Japan s exports to America amounted to
$137.4 billion or 5.7% of its overall imports.
1. Vehicles: $46.5 billion 2. Machines, engines, pumps: $31.8 billion 3. Electronic equipment: $17.6
billion 4. Medical, technical equipment: $6.7 billion 5. Aircraft, spacecraft: $4.9 billion 6. Organic
chemicals: $3.9 billion 7. Rubber: $2.5 billion 8. Plastics: $2.3 billion 9. Iron or steel products: $2.3
billion
10. Iron and steel: $1.9 billion
As you can see that there is so much money and goods that are depended on the companies of the
United States and when it comes to politics, there has been a constant argument on the steps on
improving the security postures and equipment at port terminals in America. This is also the case of
other port terminals around the world. According to the Container

The ADN prepared nurse may focus solely on the patient care and may also feel unable to assist the
family with their needs. They would review code status and resume care. (i.e. labs, IV fluids, CXR

The BSN prepared nurse may delegate tasks more effectively to ancillary staff to provide assistance.
Perhaps having the aid or ward clerk to call other family or religious affiliations for support. Or by
providing the family with privacy and providing frequent updates on the patient s condition and plan
of care. Further education would be given to the family to determine what extent of care is to be given.
(I.e. maximum care or palliative care). The determination would contribute to the entirety of
knowledge needed and education provided. The actual bedside competency difference would not be
profound in this situation, but the entire experience for the patient and/or the family can be improved
as well as quality of life. Patient education is also on the forefront of the BSN prepared nurse. More
education and training in regards to communication and technology gives the BSN nurse a greater
ability to educate the patient more thoroughly and comprehensively. References American Association

Argumentative Essay On Republicans
If I had to define the word Democratic, personally I think it means rule by the majority or a monarchy
or a plutocracy. It actually depends on your own thoughts or how you may look at it. When it comes to

not be legal and the government should restrict it as such. When it comes to gun control laws,
Democrats, more gun control laws are needed to address a seemly growing problem with guns,
Republicans oppose more gun control laws, citing that it not what the Constitution calls for.

Three Cups Of Tea By Greg Mortenson Character Analysis
In life, some people are naturally driven to help other in times of great need. Greg Mortenson in the
book Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson contains a series of traits that guides him to his ultimate
goal, which is to help the most kids he can in the Middle Eastern Area either by making school,
providing shelter or just willing to lend a helping hand. One of the traits that Greg possess is the trait
to be dedicated/committed to the kids of the Middle Eastern area. He even is willing to help while he
is immediate danger. One of the most outstanding examples of this is when he is bribed to build a
school in an area he knows very little about instead of his original place of planning. Korphe is very
far. And very dirty. You like these children. Why don t you build your school here? Changazi asked.
No said Greg. This shows the attempt to persuade Greg to build his school in the current place he is in,
but he denies it because he made the people of Korphe a promise and is going to keep it. ... Show

Argumentative Essay On Religion
Religion was discovered back in 2000 BC and is considered to be a trait common to cultures
worldwide to this day. Some use religion as a way to cope, to connect, but few could use religion as a
weapon against others. Since religion began, over 195,035,000 lives have been lost in tragedies
brought on in the name of faith. Regardless of the brutality religion has created, it has also caused
others to come together in order to speak out. As a result of religions regression in society, humans are
able to progress for the sake of defending human rights. Christianity is one of the largest religions to
stand with more than 2.22 billion followers. However, not all Christians share the same stance on
issues, whether it be political or moral. An example would be the Westboro Baptist Church; a hate
group known for its hostility towards those who do not meet up to their standards, specifically
members of the LGBT, Catholics, American soldiers, and Muslims. The church originally received
national attention in October, 1998, for picketing the funeral of a man named Matthew Shepard who
was beaten and tortured for being gay. Romaine Patterson, a friend of Shepard s, recalled that she
couldn t take her eyes off of the neon signs that read, God Hates Fags , Matt in Hell , and AIDS Cures
Fags . From there, the church had displayed Shepard in their memorial section on their website. The
page states that the church does not support the fact he was murdered, but that they picketed in order

Mechanical And Transport Properties Of Cellular Solids
Abstract This work presents a novel formulation for a Voronoi type cellular material with in plane
anisotropic behaviour, showing global positive and negative Poisson s ratio effects under uniaxial
tensile loading. The effects of the cell geometry and relative density over the global stiffness,
equivalent in plane Poisson s ratios and shear modulus of the Voronoi type structure are evaluated with
a parametric analysis. Empirical formulas are identified to reproduce the mechanical trends of the
equivalent homogeneous orthotropic material representing the Voronoi type structure and its geometry
parameters. Keywords Lattice structures; Elastic behaviour; Simulation; Finite element analysis 1.
Introduction The mechanical and transport properties of cellular solids have been traditionally
modeled using periodic unit cells representative volumes. Examples of these unit cell topologies are
the hexagonal prismatic and quadrilateral centrosymmetric ones (Gibson and Ashby, 1997), Kelvin
lattices (Choi and Lakes, 1995, Zhu et al., 1997, Warren and Kraynik, 1997, Mills, 2005, Gong et al.,
2005 and Weaire, 2008). The level of disorder associated to the shape and orientation of cells
belonging to real open cell foams has been described numerically by making use of Voronoi diagrams
(Kraynik et al., 2003). Voronoi tessellations create one to one optimal (i.e., minimum distance)
correspondence between a point in the space and polytopes (a geometric entity delimited by segments

A Lost Goodnight for Broken Boys
What happened to us, Quentin? Running my eyes across your pale face, staring into your cold, blue
eyes, I block out the gentle voices of the EMTs that are telling me to let go. There s too much noise,
too many hands trying to take you from me. I can t breathe, can t let you go. I won t let them. I won t.
If they do, you ll really be gone and the last piece of me that s left will crack. I ll be broken. Why didn
t you come to me? A weak whine of protest leaves my throat as I try to pull you tighter to me; to keep
you with me. No, I cry, no. Shoving at the bodies that are surrounding me, suffocating me. Go away, I
sob. Don t take him away. My baby boy, my fiancé, just mine. The ring covering your delicate finger
glints from the sunlight pouring through the curtains. Only a week away and you d have been Mr.
Caine. Mr. Mr. Oakley Caine. What did I do wrong? Could I have fixed it? I can t even remember
what we fought about, but I guess that was all you needed. Just one more reason to go. One more
person to add to the list of those that you think don t care about you. But...I do care. God, do I care. I
should have never left you alone, but I thought it was what you wanted. You told me to go, so I went. I
m so sorry. You re worth more than I could ever give you. A beautiful boy who felt like he had
nothing, yet shone brighter than the rest, who deserved everything under the sun and more. I wish I
could ve given that to you. I m sorry I wasn t enough. You wanted

Asthma Patient
11.0 DISCUSSION ON MEDICAL MANAGEMENT OF THE PATIENT
We all know the ABCs of resuscitation, but for asthma patient A doesn t for patient. Asthma is a
respiratory problem not an airway difficulty. Unless the patient arrives in arrest, there is no reason to
intubate immediately.
The fast action is to start oxygen and bronchodilators. Give both albuterol and ipratropium bromide.
Also, stick to nebulizers for patients.
a)Oxygen: Asthmatic patients generally do not require a lot of supplemental oxygen. Dr ordered nasal
prongs because it is going to be replaced with a nebulizer.Definitely , nebulizer with oxygen.

Ketamine (+/ Delayed Sequence Intubation)
Patient feeling appearing probably secondary to hypoxia ketamine is agent of choice, theoretically as
part of a delayed sequence intubation. Ketamine is used to treat the psychological state, allow for
proper pre oxygenation of the patient and get the rest of the medications on board. Non invasive
positive pressure ventilation can be used as part of this pre oxygenation. The plan is to use ketamine to
pre oxygenate and buy time to provide for a safe, manage intubation. All intubation equipment is
prepared for patient. If the patient condition is not better with maximal medical management,in this
situation to start intubation.

In the documentary, High Crimes and Misdemeanor (1990) produced by frontline, details the side
effects from the Iran Contra affair proposed by the Reagan Administration and the consequences of
the Reagan administration for not complying with its constitutional authority on notifying the United
States Congress on the covert operation, which is the main organ responsible for the appropriations of
funds and its allocation. The Covert Operation facilitated the sale of arms to Iran, which was under a
strict arms embargo during the hostage situation in 1979.

However, the Reagan administration avoided Congresses requests and proceeded to oversee covert
military aid by raising private and foreign funds for the contras.
Initially the agenda was to allow Israel to ship weapons to Iran and the United States would be
responsible to later resupply Israel and receive their payments in a timely manner. However,
Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North a hawkish leader of the National Security Council modified the plan
to allow the proceeds received from the sale of arms to Iran to be diverted to fund anti Sandinista and
anti communist rebels against the communist backed Nicaraguan Government.
This scandal garnered the public to become very dubious and outraged about the Reagans
Administrations ambitions within Latin America, several investigations ensued mainly by the U.S.
Congress, but the sale of weapons to Iran was not deemed a criminal offense and President Ronald
Reagan was not in violation of law because of the refusal to declassify prominent documents.

The process of globalization is a process determined by different countries need to develop
international relationships. These international relationships are intended to provide countries with
what they need, while providing what other countries need. Some countries require workforce and
have the financial resources it requires, while other countries have this workforce that they can export

Robert Peel s Nine Principles
Sir Robert Peel is an icon in the history of policing, just as is Martin Luther King, Jr. in the Civil
Rights Movement. It is virtually impossible for one to learn police history, or study policing in general
for that matter, without gaining knowledge about Peel and his principles. Furthermore, the same could
be said for taking a political science class, and not learning the differences between the Democratic
and Republican parties. However, Sir Robert Peel is known for other contributions, or destructions, of
society s well being, depending on one s perspective. As we all are aware, the emotions and
temperaments of individuals are heightened when politics are involved. First and foremost, Peel not
only revised and organized the field of policing, he also was the blame for destroying the conservative
party in the nineteenth century (Evans, 2006). He perceived himself as an economic reformist which
lead to the creation of the Corn Laws (Evans, 2006). He had the ideology that removing and/or
reducing taxes would be in the best interest of society. Thus, he went against his party s wishes and
removed all tariffs from corn resulting in a crisis (Evans, 2006). At first, the Corn Laws protected corn
farmers, then quickly caused the prices of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To me, the mission of police officers is to protect and serve citizens of the community, not just prevent
crime and disorder (Dempsey Forst, 2016, p.7). Furthermore, I believe police officers making
neighborhoods safe, getting drugs off the street, solving an array of criminal cases, among other duties
shows the public the extent to which their local and state law enforcement officers are efficiently
performing their job duties, not just crime being absent (Dempsey, 2016). If this was the case, police
officers would never be perceived has having acceptable job performance. Crime is inevitable. No
area will ever be truly crime

Coleman And Bourdieu
Three different views on social capital are particularly considered by scholars. They are the ideas of
Pierre Bourdieu, James Coleman, and Robert Putnam.
Pierre Bourdieu
A concurrently developed theory of social capital came from French Sociologist Pierre Bourdieu
(1985). Bourdieu s (1985) use of the term social capital is an explicit attempt to understand the
production of classes and class divisions. Social capital and relationships are never disconnected from
capital. Capital for Bourdieu (1985), is simultaneously economic as well as a set of power relations
that constitute a variety of realms and social interactions though normally non economic. He was
interested to find the ways to reproduce society and to understand how the supreme position of
dominant classes are retained. He could not explain this by economics alone, and he is well known for
his discussion of cultural capital. Also he tried to learn how people utilized cultural knowledge to
place them in the hierarchy. He wrote a famous book, Distinction (1984) a detailed study of middle
class taste and how they identify themselves with those who are above than them on the social ladder
and the difference from those below .

Social capital for him is inherently functional and social capital is whatever allows people or
institutions to act. Social capital is therefore not a mechanism, a thing, or an outcome, but
simultaneously any or all of them. Coleman sought to link the ideas of economic and sociology theory.
His way of study leads to a broader view of social capital. According to him social capital is not a
stock owned by elite groups but also the benefits of all commodities can be utilized by the
marginalized and

The Death Penalty And The Fourteenth Amendment
The death penalty to many people could be considered unconstitutional under the eighth and the
fourteenth amendment s. People fear nothing more than death itself because death is final. Execution
dates being carried out promptly with assigned dates after a fair trial would discourage almost anyone
from committing future crimes that are worthy of execution. We as a society are based on the need for
retribution and vengance. Making a wrongdoer pay the price equivalent to the price the wrongdoer
did. Sparsely carrying out executions prolongs the mental and emotional suffering of the victim s
family and friends. It cost taxpayers millions of dollars per year, more than general population to
house a death row inmates. Allowing death row inmates to sit on death row for 25 plus years is a
lugsury most dont deserve. With less than 10% of all inmates being exonorated in the past 200 years
of death penalties it is unclear why executions are not more readily carried out.
Currently, the total number of inmates that have been executed in the US is 1,434. While the total
number of inmates currently on death row is 2,943, 55 of which are female inmates.
Our desire for retribution dates back as early as the 18th Century BC. We feel the need to see the
wrongdoer have consequences for their actions. To be punished and feel the pain that their victim felt
so they can also suffer. Some people love that idea that the person who commited a crime suffers by
whatever means necessary. Knowing

The American Dream By John Winthrop
What is the American Dream ? The American Dream has always been characterized by a thriving job
market, opportunities for advancement, stability, etc. It is the pursuit of individual achievement
without consideration for moral or legal restrictions (Angulski, 2013). This idea dates back as far as
1630 to the puritan colonists. It was first established within a sermon given by John Winthrop while
sailing to Massachusetts. This sermon set into motion the ideals that we have adapted today
enveloping the American Dream . From then on Americans put their faith in the theory that if you
work hard and do the right thing you will manifest your goals and eventually attain success and
comfortability. The dream of the time was to live in a land where there existed a right to religious
freedom and opportunity. This ideal has stuck to this day, however the validity may is no longer intact.
The American Dream is a mere afterthought within today s society, overtaken by massive debt and
loss of opportunity. The American Dream is the greatest asset we as a country possess, the fact that
people from across the world still want to come to America to fulfill their dreams, to join a society that
they see as dynamic, exciting, and full of potential, is a testament to the great potential of America to
improve lives and offer opportunity for all (Ross, 2016). America is a substantially different world
now than it was at the time of the initial American Dream . The optimism of the

Perception and Memory in The Keeper of the Books, The Men...
The three authors Jorge Luis Borges, Scott Russell Sanders, and E.B White all have different stories
yet somehow they tie together. Borges The Keeper of the Books , Sanders The Men We Carry in Our
Minds and White s Once More to the Lake all touch upon perception throughout their stories. Their
perceptions thoroughly shape their stories, but their memories also influence and shadow their
perception as well. Throughout this essay I hope to prove how memories influence and tie together
with our perception of our individuality. There are two different types of memory; individual and
collective. Individual memory is defined in the article Individual and Collective Memory written by
Sara Hanneman and Brianna Brandon, as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Say a woman lost her husband in 9/11. Her husband had a certain smell about him that distinguished
and defined him. If this women smelt this smell again, she may instantly refer back to that individual
memory of that smell and this could affect her formation of new, collective memories. Maybe this
scent is a reminder of her deceased husband and could form negative memories. On the other hand, it
could do the opposite. This individual memory could serve as a positive reminder of the good
memories she had with her husband. When she smells the smell she may only think of the individual
memory of the smell itself. Or she could think of memories involving activities she and her husband
did while he was wearing the scent, ultimately having collective memories. However we decide to
handle our individual memories ultimately attaches and weigh together with our collective memories.
Another thing that dominates our perception and memory is archives. By definition, archives are any
extensive record or collection of data (dictionary.com). When it comes to memory, we decide what is
important to store or collect and what isn t. We may keep certain memories in the back of our mind in
an archive until we need it. The question that comes with archives is, what do we decide to remember
and what do we decide to forget? Erika Hayasak talks about this in the article How Many of Your
Memories are Fake? , stating, For all of us, the stronger

How Did England Lose Colonial America
In the early American days, America was mostly controlled by English and French settlers. They
fought for land near the fertile Ohio River Valley, both claiming to own the land. The strive to fully
own this land led to the French and Indian war in 1754. The French fought with the Native Americans
against England and its colonies. In 1763, the war finally ended with the surrender at Montreal and the
Treaty of Paris. England had won the war, but at a certain price. Eventually, through a chain of events,
England lost rebellious America because of this war. After the French and Indian war, England needed
to pay off a large war debt. They decided to abuse their power in eastern America to pay off the debt.
They taxed basic items such as paper

  • 2. Figurative Language In Homer s The Odyssey The Odyssey is a greek mythology adventure with many short stories inside of it. There were many different themes expressed throughout the stories, often through figurative language. In The Odyssey, Homer used figurative language to express theme by using different literary devices such as personification and hyperboles. One of the literary devices Homer used to express a theme in the Odyssey is personification. For example, in the story The Cyclops , Homer wrote When the young Dawn with fingertips of rose lit up the world... (Line 252 253). This quote was personification because it gave Dawn the human quality of fingertips. This use of personification expressed the theme of patience, because Odysseus and his men that were stuck in the cave ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Computer System Upgrading Issue: Due to the rapid technological advances in computer systems as well as operating systems in the business world, we must upgrade our computer systems throughout our company in order to gain an edge on our competitors. We need to replace the central processing units in every division of our company with newer units that are in line with the most sophisticated computer systems also being used by every one of our competitors. Background: The computers currently in question have been in use for approximately 12 months as of November 2011. The computers we currently use are of lower quality and were most likely purchased at a bargain price. The result of this approach has been a computing system that is quite unreliable. Since the beginning of the summer of 2012, employees have reported a number of technological setbacks including: Malfunctioning audio cards Inadequate Memory Failed ventilation. Malfunctioning power supplies. Audio card malfunction continues to be an on going problem with the current computer systems in our company and in many situations our computers are rendered completely useless when the job requires sound. Failed ventilation also continues to be a huge problem with many, if not all, of the computers used throughout our company. When computer fans malfunction, it can cause the computer to overheat and permanently damage it and all of the information in it, which raises a drastic level of concern due to the fact that we store all of our ... • 4. Women In The Catholic Church The Sacrament of Holy Orders explains the Catholics who are consecrated to serve and how they differentiate between themselves. A common understanding of priesthood is that God gives his power and authority to provide the ordinances of salvation. While this may be true, many people are not aware of what other roles priests take on and represent. The word Holy , in Holy Orders , means sacred and worthy of respect or devotion. While, the word order appoints an established community or group with a hierarchy, in this case God being the hierarch. In modern times like these the majority of people know that becoming a part of the priesthood is a decision one makes and then enters into a process. Though this may be true now, many do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Do this in remembrance of me , signifies a deep meaning that Jesus wanted the priesthood to understand and practice. With these words he not only established the Eucharist and priesthood, he set a tone for the entirety of the Catholic Church. They would no longer rely on practices like animal sacrifice or hereditary lineage, but on grace and salvation. During the same ceremony, Jesus also grants the apostles and in turn priesthood, the ability the power to forgive sins. While many people know that men of the priesthood have this ability, it is not very well known that it was given to them by Jesus in the same evening. In fact, I thought they simply had this ability because they are supposed to represent God here on earth and therefore would have this power, not that Jesus Christ himself directly gave them this ability. The ability to consecrate, offer and minister the Body and Blood of Christ, was also given to priests by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Eminem Evaluation Evaluation of Marshall Bruce Mathers the third also know as Eminem after being arrested for carrying a concealed weapon without a license and assault with a deadly weapon. The night in question is June 4th 2000 in Michigan at the Hard Rocks Cafe. Eminem became aggravated after witnessing his wife Kim Mathers kissing another man by the name of John Guerra on the cheek. Eminem was taken into custody after the incident and was later release on bond. (Craughwell, 2011, p. 137) Eminem was abandoned by his father as a newborn and was raised by his mother Debora Mathers. His mother was unable to hold a job for very long, which forced them to move around to different public housing project during his childhood (2016). During the time of Eminem s arrest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In an article by the Rolling Stones, Eminem was asked if he felt that he needed psychotherapy and he stated, I don t need no shrink. My music is my shrink (Bozza, 2015). His vulgar language and the use of drugs are often seen as socially acceptable behaviors and are how Eminem seems to express his feelings. Eminem shows to be in a narcissistic paradox, he shows high self esteem by having too much pride to admit that he may need therapy. While he still doubts his worth due to having a difficult childhood which he only feels comfortable expressing in his music and even by him creating an alternate persona by the name of Slim Shady. The narcissistic tendencies that Eminem exhibits can relate to his aggression leading him to be facing two felonies, As our results generally demonstrate that individuals who scored higher on narcissism had more accepting attitudes towards violence, this suggests that narcissism also predicts more accepting attitudes towards authoritarian aggression in both males and females. (Blinkhorn, Lyons, Almond, 2016). Eminem s aggravation on the night he witnessed his wife kissing another man but also is traced back to when he was in high school, While enrolled at Lincoln High School in Warren, Mathers participated in rap freestyle battles verbal fights in which the goal was to create the smartest rhymes and the best insults. It was here that Mathers found his voice and was able to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Overcrowding and Housing in Nineteenth-Century London... Overcrowding and Housing in Nineteenth Century London From 1801 to 1851, the population of London grew from under 1 million inhabitants to 2.25 million. This was due in large part to immigration, both from other countries and from the countryside of England. Hundreds of thousands of people were moving to the newly industrialized cities and towns to find work, having been squeezed off the land because of the enclosure of farms. There was also displacement of the working class within the city of London because of a number of construction projects. There were street improvement schemes in which tenements were razed in order to widen the passages. The transformation of part of the city into a non residential district devoted to finance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of every three inhabitants of flats of 4 or less rooms, irrespective of class, were overcrowded. In 1866, the Sanitary Act defined overcrowding as less than 400 cubic feet for each adult living in a room day and night, or 300 cubic feet for a sleeping room. For children, these dimensions were halved. This means that a man, woman, and one child living in a room 8 x10 x10 would be considered overcrowded. For statistical and census purposes, the London City Council ignored cubic capacity, and counted anything beyond two people per room as overcrowded. Hector Gavin, a lecturer in forensic medicine at Charing Cross Hospital estimated that if all the windows and doors of a typical laborers tenement were shut(against the cold, for example), the maximum length a man could survive before all available oxygen was consumed was seven hours. The Window Tax of 1695, which taxed any opening in a building s exterior walls, was finally repealed by the first Public Health Act of 1848. As the problem of overcrowding became more and more evident, several remedies were tried. There was some individual philanthropy, model dwellings were built by philanthropic capitalists, legislation was passed prohibiting overcrowding, slums were torn down(which, of course, only worsened the problem by displacing more people), there was suburban speculative development closely following the development of the railroad which provided cheap, rapid transit to the newly forming ... • 8. Don’t Discriminate the Breed How would you react if you became next to or close to a stray dog? Would you respond by running, yelling, or even kicking or hitting the animal? Would you respond calmly, call animal control or even walk away? Just because the dog is mean doesn t make it aggressive. Aggression is such a broad term and it s not all bad. The four types I am going to address are protective aggression, territorial aggression, fear motivated aggression, and pain induced aggression. Aggression that happens when a mother protects a family member whether it is human or another animal is called protective aggression. Dogs that want to protect/defend their home or area is territorial aggression. An example is when you dog chases up and down the fence line. When a dog is scared it may protect itself for their own safety. That is known as fear motivated aggression. This often occurs most then a dog is stuck or cornered. Pain induced aggression is when a dog is in pain it can respond aggressively. When they do that it is to try and help their selves but it may injury someone else. That is why when you are approaching a wounded animal you do so with caution. A lot of people say aggression is random but it s not. Aggression can be triggered many ways. It is also always response to something in the dog s environment whether it is an action of a human or the appearance/attitude of another dog. Cesar Millan says any breed can cause trouble. The difference between an aggressive small breed like a Chihuahua ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Darabont, who not only directed Shawshank Redemption, but adapted it from a Stephen King story, followed the exact same path with The Green Mile. The film was released by Warner Bros. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Into their midst comes John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), a mountainous but child like black man, convicted of murdering two small children, but whose demeanour leads Edgcomb to believe that Coffey is innocent. For a while, life on the green mile remains normal, until the day it transpires that Coffey possesses the ability to heal people through the power of touch. The Green Mile is a 3 hour film of two halves: firstly, painting a vivid portrait of life on death row, and the trivialities that brighten up the lives of the people who live and die there. The second half of the movie is given to exploring Coffey himself: his past, his crime, and his powers. He is initially misunderstood by those around him, is convicted of a crime he did not commit, he greatly enriches the lives of those around him, and is eventually executed for refusing to proclaim his own innocence. Much of Thomas Newman s music is rooted in the sounds of the deep south, with several interesting cues written for an eclectic ensemble including such weird and wonderful instruments as a bowed travelling guitar, a Vietnamese banjo, a jaw harp, bass marimbas, a tonut and the omnipresent saz. Occasionally, the music attains a kind of hypnotic sensibility that draws the listener in, but at other times it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Mandatory Influenza Vaccine Essay As employees and health care works of well known organizations, we have an ethical and moral obligation to make decisions and choices that reflect the best interest of the health of our patients. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (2010), mandatory programs should be enforced for health professionals justifying the need for employees to receive the influenza vaccine. The Joint Commission believes that an estimated 80% or higher of influenza immunization rates are crucial for providing the necessary immunity needed to protect and reduce influenza infections or health related illnesses (The American Academy of Pediatrics, 2010). Voluntary programs consist of having the vaccine readily available for employees for no cost, providing staff with education on influenza prevention, and having ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Immunization rates still remain low and hospitals that have voluntary programs in place, are not seeing the results they would if mandatory vaccine programs were put in to place. A mandatory influenza vaccine policy is the best solution to this issue and long overdue. Health care associated influenza occurrences are becoming more common as it contributes to patient mortality and morbidity (The American Academy of Pediatrics, 2010). Thus, proving even further the need to prevent and control influenza by putting the health and safety of our patients first. Mandating medical interventions should never be imposed abruptly, as the rights of health professionals need to be respected as well. Prominent organizations other then the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) have jumped on board and supported the policy of fulfilling a mandatory influenza immunization policy. Other organizations such as The Joint Commission, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, APIC, and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America also support this policy (Sullivan, 2009). • 11. Kardashian Leadership Qualities A leader is someone who performs actions in which other people want to model themselves after. Leaders could be pro athletes, popular musicians but people such the Kardashians are not what I view as a leader. The pro athletes who are leaders are the ones who are good people on and off the field. The ones who have their own foundations or charities. I do not believe the Kardashians deserve the name leader because they do things for themselves and not other people, which is not a quality of a leader. The two main qualities all leaders should have in common are their approach to inspire, their ability to lead by example. Being able to inspire people to do what they love makes you a great leader. Also being able to inspire their team is great ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Romeo And Juliet Reflection Clark, Michael Mrs.Binion La11, Period 1 October 2, 2017 Romeo and Juliet, a story about pain and sorrow. A story with ups and downs. Is that why it entertains us? Do we like to hear about pain and misery and the out come of it, good or bad? Authors have used these stories since Shakespeare and Logic. Logic is an outlier because of the way he was raised. He has seen people he loves die and raped in front of him, hated by his mother enough to where she tried to kill him multiple times and how he got out of it. How he struggled without a high school diploma, the people he met and how they changed his life. In Shady Grove Hospital in Rockville, Maryland 7:36 A.M., where a biracial baby was born to a black father and white mother ( Take it Back, Logic) Sir Robert Bryson Hall II was born. His mother was a racist who would beat him and constantly talk down to him, even trying to kill him one time. His father was out of the picture most of his life doing drugs that he got from his sons (Logic s Brothers) who were Drug dealers and killers. He watched his sisters get raped and wasn t able to do anything. It was going down hill until 14 year old Robert met his mentor Solomon. He showed Robert life outside the ghetto and got him interested into rap, even encouraged him to perform. When Logic turned 17 he got expelled from high school and moved out of his house. He had to maintain two jobs to support him and his rap career. While not much he would perform for Pitbull and Ludacris when they came in town. Trying to do both was working for a while but eventually he couldn t keep up with rent and ended up being homeless He struggled to live and rap until he met his investor His name is lenny. Lenny met up with Logic after a concert and told him that he believed in the vision that was Logic and would fund him, he d give him a year to make it. So Robert did it, he released his first album Young, Broke, Infamous . Because of how much recognition he made, he released the 1st (out of a trilogy) Young Sinatra. Later he d release the 2nd and 3rd Young Sinatras. Lil Dicky is a rapper who jokes when he raps. While he can make a good beat and a sick rap it s not the same as a story which makes the difference in a good rapper. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Terrorist groups have continued to threaten to harm innocent people or infrastructures at all cost. One way that terrorist can disrupt the United States economy is an attack on a major shipping port and disrupting their operations. • 21. Argumentative Essay On Religion Religion was discovered back in 2000 BC and is considered to be a trait common to cultures worldwide to this day. Some use religion as a way to cope, to connect, but few could use religion as a weapon against others. Since religion began, over 195,035,000 lives have been lost in tragedies brought on in the name of faith. Regardless of the brutality religion has created, it has also caused others to come together in order to speak out. As a result of religions regression in society, humans are able to progress for the sake of defending human rights. Christianity is one of the largest religions to stand with more than 2.22 billion followers. However, not all Christians share the same stance on issues, whether it be political or moral. An example would be the Westboro Baptist Church; a hate group known for its hostility towards those who do not meet up to their standards, specifically members of the LGBT, Catholics, American soldiers, and Muslims. The church originally received national attention in October, 1998, for picketing the funeral of a man named Matthew Shepard who was beaten and tortured for being gay. Romaine Patterson, a friend of Shepard s, recalled that she couldn t take her eyes off of the neon signs that read, God Hates Fags , Matt in Hell , and AIDS Cures Fags . • 22. Mechanical And Transport Properties Of Cellular Solids Abstract This work presents a novel formulation for a Voronoi type cellular material with in plane anisotropic behaviour, showing global positive and negative Poisson s ratio effects under uniaxial tensile loading. The effects of the cell geometry and relative density over the global stiffness, equivalent in plane Poisson s ratios and shear modulus of the Voronoi type structure are evaluated with a parametric analysis. Empirical formulas are identified to reproduce the mechanical trends of the equivalent homogeneous orthotropic material representing the Voronoi type structure and its geometry parameters. Keywords Lattice structures; Elastic behaviour; Simulation; Finite element analysis 1. Introduction The mechanical and transport properties of cellular solids have been traditionally modeled using periodic unit cells representative volumes. Examples of these unit cell topologies are the hexagonal prismatic and quadrilateral centrosymmetric ones (Gibson and Ashby, 1997), Kelvin lattices (Choi and Lakes, 1995, Zhu et al., 1997, Warren and Kraynik, 1997, Mills, 2005, Gong et al., 2005 and Weaire, 2008). The level of disorder associated to the shape and orientation of cells belonging to real open cell foams has been described numerically by making use of Voronoi diagrams (Kraynik et al., 2003). As we all are aware, the emotions and temperaments of individuals are heightened when politics are involved. First and foremost, Peel not only revised and organized the field of policing, he also was the blame for destroying the conservative party in the nineteenth century (Evans, 2006). Pierre Bourdieu A concurrently developed theory of social capital came from French Sociologist Pierre Bourdieu (1985). Bourdieu s (1985) use of the term social capital is an explicit attempt to understand the production of classes and class divisions. Social capital and relationships are never disconnected from capital. Capital for Bourdieu (1985), is simultaneously economic as well as a set of power relations that constitute a variety of realms and social interactions though normally non economic. He was interested to find the ways to reproduce society and to understand how the supreme position of dominant classes are retained. He could not explain this by economics alone, and he is well known for his discussion of cultural capital. Also he tried to learn how people utilized cultural knowledge to place them in the hierarchy. • 29. The Death Penalty And The Fourteenth Amendment The death penalty to many people could be considered unconstitutional under the eighth and the fourteenth amendment s. People fear nothing more than death itself because death is final. Execution dates being carried out promptly with assigned dates after a fair trial would discourage almost anyone from committing future crimes that are worthy of execution. We as a society are based on the need for retribution and vengance. Making a wrongdoer pay the price equivalent to the price the wrongdoer did. Sparsely carrying out executions prolongs the mental and emotional suffering of the victim s family and friends. It cost taxpayers millions of dollars per year, more than general population to house a death row inmates. Allowing death row inmates to sit on death row for 25 plus years is a lugsury most dont deserve. With less than 10% of all inmates being exonorated in the past 200 years of death penalties it is unclear why executions are not more readily carried out. Currently, the total number of inmates that have been executed in the US is 1,434. While the total number of inmates currently on death row is 2,943, 55 of which are female inmates. Our desire for retribution dates back as early as the 18th Century BC. We feel the need to see the wrongdoer have consequences for their actions. The American Dream has always been characterized by a thriving job market, opportunities for advancement, stability, etc. It is the pursuit of individual achievement without consideration for moral or legal restrictions (Angulski, 2013). This idea dates back as far as 1630 to the puritan colonists. It was first established within a sermon given by John Winthrop while sailing to Massachusetts. This sermon set into motion the ideals that we have adapted today enveloping the American Dream . From then on Americans put their faith in the theory that if you work hard and do the right thing you will manifest your goals and eventually attain success and comfortability. The dream of the time was to live in a land where there existed a right to religious freedom and opportunity. This ideal has stuck to this day, however the validity may is no longer intact. The American Dream is a mere afterthought within today s society, overtaken by massive debt and loss of opportunity. The American Dream is the greatest asset we as a country possess, the fact that people from across the world still want to come to America to fulfill their dreams, to join a society that they see as dynamic, exciting, and full of potential, is a testament to the great potential of America to improve lives and offer opportunity for all (Ross, 2016).
