Should Music Be Censored Essay
Music is the science or art of ordering tones or sounds in succession, in combination, and in temporal
relationships to produce a composition having unity.Music provides a powerful form of expression
that at its most basic level helps to entertain while containing the power to cause revolutions. It is a
way for people to express themselves through beats, lyrics, pitches and ranges. Imagine owning a
music store, and a new album about police brutality is brought to your store for you to sell. An
undercover cop came in and bought the album, and told you that if you didn t take the albums off the
shelves you would be arrested and your store would be shut down. There are debates today on whether
the government should censor the music that we listen to.Some believe it has a negative effect on the
listeners and cause them to become the lyrics. Since music is a form of expression, censoring the
music would be a violation of our rights. While many believe censorship to be a necessity in certain
contexts, the idea of censorship is at fault in its attempt to control and stop the advance knowledge of
the world today. There is fear of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

against the emotion the artist felt in their song. It s like taking the first amendment away from the
artist and listeners. The government can t limit expression just because of any listener, or a community

Iluvatar Research Paper
The manifestation of evil in Middle Earth is evident in many of the themes that curse throughout its
history. Envy, greed, and revenge are at the root of the many evils that befell the inhabitants of Arda.
When analyzing said themes in an attempt to better understand Middle Earth and its
Peoples, it becomes apparent that evil shows itself in many ways and has many faces.
The most glaring and obvious example of how evil manifests itself in the creation of the world is
through Melkor. Beginning with the music of the Ainur and the themes that Iluvatar presents, Melkor
first brings about discord in the creation of the world by greedily seeking to increase his power
through the manipulation of the music, as well as, the other Ainur (The Silmarillion, ... Show more

Melkor first gave evil a voice through the envy he had for Iluvatars powers (p.4), for the bliss of the
Valar and the beauty of the world and the choices he made to stray from Iluvatars light (The
Silmarillion, p.11). The envy that festered within him gave way to something very dark and terrible
and led to the first battle between the Valar and Melkor where all the light and beauty the Valar had
worked so diligently to create was destroyed (The Silmarillion, p.12). The destruction of all things
held dear by the Valar, and the darkness that followed did not quell Melkor s envy and greed and
instead helped to fuel and strengthen his resolve. Furthermore, evil once again manifested itself
through this envy and greed regarding Melkor s desire for the Imperishable Flame that he alone could
not posses (The Silmarillion, p.23). Envy and greed, in the early days, were often the vessels in which
evil worked, and Melkor and his discontent provided the perfect opportunity for this evil to have a

The Greenhouse Movement Helps
There is a quote by a man named David Battisti, who directs the UW s Earth Initiative. Director
Battisti stated, average global temperatures for the past million years have never been more than 2 4
degrees higher than now. If greenhouse emissions continue unchecked, temperatures would likely be
higher by the end of this century than any time since the human species evolved. (Doughton). In a
nutshell, David is saying that there is no way to predict the height climate change can grow to if left
unchecked. Since temperatures have never reached past a few degrees, how can predictions be made
to see what catastrophes may befall us in the event of temperatures reaching higher than they have
ever been? Today information will be presented to show what happening to our planet, then more
information will be given concerning statistics to show how living a green lifestyle can benefit our
environment. Earth is getting hotter. Almost every scientist agrees with this consensus. In fact with the
dozen climate models in use today, almost all predict average temperature increases of about 3 11
degrees by the end of the century. This doesn t seem too bad though, but keep in mind that it only took
a drop of 10 degrees to encase much of North America in mile deep glaciers during the ice
age(Doughton). Earth heating up can result in many different national calamities. One big disaster that
can somewhat correlate with rising temperatures is wildfires. They match up with rising climates for 2

Essay On Harriet Tubman
Harriet Tubman
I had reasoned this out in my mind, there was one of two things I had a right to, liberty or death; if I
could not have one, I would have the other. Tubman
The world was blessed with Harriet Tubman in 1822 on the eastern shore of Maryland. Unfortunately,
Tubman was born into this world as a slave and lived on a plantation with her family, which consisted
of four brothers and four sisters. Her parents named her Araminta Minty Ross but soon, with the
coming of age, she changed her name from Araminta to Harriet taking after her mother, Harriett
Greene. At the age of 12 Harriet Ross was seriously injured by a blow to the head, inflicted by a white

He was a freeborn black Pennsylvanian who could read and write. He used these talents to interview
runaway slaves and record their names and stories in a book. He hoped that in the future, families
could trace their relations using this book. William Still published the book in 1872 under the title The
Underground Railroad which describes many of Tubman s efforts. With Still by her side, along with
other members of the Philadelphia anti slavery society, Tubman soon learned all about the
Underground Railroad. The curiosity exposed the hero within Harriet.
In 1850, Harriet helped her first slaves escape to the North. She sent a message to her sister s oldest
son that said for her sister and family to board a fishing boat in Cambridge, from there Harriet guided
them from safehouse to safehouse in Pennsylvania, which was also a free state, until they reached
Philadelphia. For Tubman, family came first.
In September of the same year, Harriet was made an official conductor of the Underground Railroad.
This meant that she knew all the routes to free territory and she had to take an oath of silence so the
secret of the Underground Railroad would be kept secret. Not like she d actually say something about
it anyway. She also made a second trip to the South to rescue her brother James and other friends.
They were already in the process of running away so Harriet aided them across a river and to the home

Discipleship Essay
Discipleship
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, a Disciple is one who takes another as his teacher and
model. Christian Disciples have faith and commitment to God, they use their own time to give service
others; they sacrifice their home life possessions and money. Christian Disciples preach to others
about the Good Doings of Jesus and the excellence of God. Christian Disciples resist other
temptations. They produce self control, orderliness, obedience and a capacity for co operation with
others. Anybody can be a disciple; for example a Portadown College student is a disciple of the
school. To be a Christian disciple however, takes a different kind of self discipline. The word ... Show

This means that like salt we should purify, preserve and flavour other people s lives. We should also
be like light in that we are visible Christianity is something that should be seen we should be a guide
like a light and also a warning. A true disciple follows the commandments presented by Jesus on
Mount Sinai. These 10 commandments are often referred to as the law and they are a basis as to how
we should live our lives.
As a disciple, you should also be forgiving. If someone sins against you, you should not only forgive
him seven times as Peter thought; but seventy times seven as Jesus tells us. This means there is no
limit as to how many times we should forgive someone. Jesus used the parable of the unforgiving
servant to demonstrate this. He tells of a king who was owed a great sum of money by one of his
servants. The king let the servant off with this though. A man owed the servant a small amount of
money and he still asked for it. The king found out about this and re instated his debt. The servant
should have shown the same forgiveness that he was shown.
Jesus used another story to indicate how we should lead our lives. He told of two house builders; one
who built his house on a rock and one on sand. Jesus explained that anyone who hears the words and
acts on them was like the wise man that built his

Osteoporosis Is A Health Problem
Definition
Osteoporosis is a health problem which is on the rise and is affecting primarily women (Nichols,
Pavlovic, 2003, p. 447). Osteoporosis is characterized as a disease of the bones whereas the bones
becomes weak and very fragile. Many people with this disease often break bones within the hip, spine,
and wrist. The bones are easily broken from a minor fall or, in severe cases, from a simple sneeze. The
meaning of osteoporosis is porous bone. When looking at a healthy bone under a microscope, you will
find the resemblance of a honeycomb. Far as osteoporosis, those holes and spaces in a honeycomb are
much larger than a healthy bone (National Osteoporosis Foundation).
Magnitude of Problem
Within America, osteoporosis presently affects approximately 10 million people and is responsible for
more than 1.5 million fractures annually (Societal Burden of Osteoporosis). About 54 million
Americans have osteoporosis and low bone mass which makes them at high risk for the disease
(NOF). This disease holds a substantial financial burden with annual direct cost ranging from 17 to 20
billion dollars. Because of the consistent growth in age among the population, the prevalence and
number of osteoporosis fractures will continue to increase (SBO). Worldwide, osteoporosis has an
estimated total of affecting 200 million women, one tenth of women aged 60, one fifth of women aged
70, two fifths of women aged 80, and two thirds of women aged 90. Across the areas of Europe,

Benefits Of Retirement Planning For Retirement
Retirement planning is essential for the future well being of retirees. Gaining knowledge and
perspective on the process will be beneficial. A lack of preparedness may stem from the overwhelming
amount of variables affecting and contributing to retirement planning. The following literature reviews
provide awareness on planning for retirement. In an article by Burke Goldman (2015), three strategies
are presented to adopt and implement proven features and solutions. First, automatic plan features
promote enrollment and escalation to produce better outcomes. Behavioral economics contributes to
the effectiveness. Examples includes hyperbolic discounting, heavily discounting the importance of
future benefits in favor of immediate action, and loss aversion, motivated by avoiding loss than
achieving gains. The second strategy involves instituting the 4 M s, milestones, measurement,
monitoring and management. In order to reach the goal retirement age and income, the future retiree
needs to recognize how much is required to save each year. The funding goals are measured to
determine if the individual needs to change course or pick up the pace. Monitoring and management
occur throughout the process. Third, connecting the dots attempts to overcome the challenges
associated with account balances and future income. For a secure retirement, understanding options
promotes the ability to achieve better outcomes. To assist in achieving retirement goals, Davidson

The Demise Of Homer Barron
Gabriel, Bridges English, 1020 Professor Emery, Taylor 3 September 2014 The Demise of Homer
Barron In William Faulkner s short story, A Rose for Emily, Ms. Emily Grierson, the title character in
the story, is a very peculiar character. Introverted from society, trapped in a world of misconceptions,
Emily never receives any psychiatric treatment, but she definitely exhibits symptoms of a mental
illness. By examining Emily s behavior and her social relationships, it is possible to conclude that
Emily was mentally unstable and possessed a personal motivation to kill Homer Baron. Although her
community of Jefferson Mississippi never thought Emily was crazy, she was indeed a very ill person.
After Emily Grierson dies at the age of seventy four, the town people of Jefferson Mississippi turn out
in countless numbers for the funeral. The men show up to pay tribute to a fallen monument, the
narrator states, and the women mostly out of curiosity to see the inside of her house (32). The only
individual who had seen the interior over the time period before her death was Homer Barron and her
servant Tobe. Tobe s character was an old black man who did the cooking, gardening, and marketing.
Tobe was originally the servant of Emily s father Mr. Grierson, and stayed with Emily after his death,
seemingly out of devotion and commitment. Emily was born during the Civil War as an only child.

The s The Painted Veil By W. Somerset Maugham
In his The Painted Veil, W. Somerset Maugham tells a complex story that addresses sex, infidelity,
marriage, personal growth, and life lessons. The tale being introduced in this literary work focuses on
the primary female character, Kitty Garstin, and her husband, Walter Fane. The central focus of the
story is the marriage between Garstin and Fane and how the two characters act and display their
feelings towards each other. From the very beginning, it is transparent that the distribution of love and
affection in the marriage in not mutual at all. Fane is completely love struck at the beauty of Kitty;
she, on the other hand, feels a heavy feeling of hatred and contempt towards him. While his feelings
towards her are common knowledge, her feelings toward her husband are concealed, or so she thinks.
Kitty s immaturity towards her marriage, her husband s happiness, and her lover s true motives land
her in a situation that she finds quite horrid. However, throughout the duration of the story, Kitty
begins to develop in both her self and her non self . When faced with the aspect of certain death and
despair in the cholera stricken Mei tan fu, the character of Kitty Garstin Fane grows in an exponential
rate. She finally begins to understand the wrongs of her previous actions, the wrongs of her previous
mental state, and the wrongs of her previous life as a whole. While she still cannot stand even the

Weed Science Project
Project Description:
The project consisted in a quick guide that can be used as an emergency kit for new graduate students
within the Plant Pathology, Physiology, and Weed Science Department. At the beginning of the
program, students tend to become overwhelmed by the information provided through orientations or
paperwork to be done; therefore, they might dedicate less attention to subjects as Ethic, Plagiarism,
Honor Code, etc. In addition, a certain nervousness may arise, as they begin to study or hear about
these concepts, due to the complexity. Things get worse when orientations are missed, because the
information that can help make the transition easier is omitted.
With this guide, I intended to provide a short summary, highlighting topics and tools that students
should focus in the beginning, and this can be to some extent more helpful for those who have been
out of the school for a long time or are coming from a different educational system.
The topics recommended in the project included, Honor Code, Graduate Student Handbook, citation
style, citation and grammar tools, Virginia Tech resources, code of conduct, and a link was included,
so they can be easily accessed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the fact that Werner always seemed to want to get out of situations or leave situations and I think that
this is the only real instance where Werner did not wish to leave. Werner s love for Marie made him go

Describe recommendations for pre competition and during competition dietary inane for the athlete
competing in their even. ( grams of carbohydrates a day, grams of protein a day and timing of intake.)
Soccer is a quick paced and Intense sport. It can also be very competitive and demanding to the body.
During a soccer game a player is constantly active for 45 minutes, following a ten minute break and
then another 45 minutes of constant activity.
Nutrition is extremely important to an athlete s performance and training. What they eat daily, and

factor an athlete needs to remember. Water is the most important thing for a soccer player. It is
important that a soccer player starts hydrating a day or two before a game/tournament. The day before
the game it is a good idea to keep sipping on a bottle of water throughout the whole day drinking
about 2/3 litres of water through out the day and plenty at meals.
Dehydration is also a major factor athletes need to remember. Water is important. A soccer player
should always remain hydrated so they are ready prior for games and tournaments. A player can lose

The Theme Of Love
What is love? Love is an emotion that cannot be seen, touched, or smelt. I is a feeling of passion,
affection, and fondness for someone or something. Love is simple, but the concept of love can be
complex and sophisticated. Love is an unpredictable emotion, it can cause happiness, sadness,
forgiveness and betrayal all at the same time. It can be what saves you or destroys you. Love is the
most powerful emotion a human being can feel, it can conquer hate, break someone s heart but most
importantly, love can change someone s life, for better or for worse. This essay will analyze the

the dramatic monologue by Robert Browning was influenced by Shakespeare s use of the iambic

The world and everything in it is different and relative at the same time. Words define a life, but not a
culture, stories can tell someone s life, but cannot be compared to a poem s way of describing a
situation. In a way, a poem is none comparable to the incredible detail they give, with their way with
words, a story and an image to represent to each individual that reads it. From this, imaginations take
hold, all readers see everything differently. Today s world, poems are everywhere, yet nowhere at the
same time. Anyone attempting to name an activity that plays with words and prove that it s not a poem
has a long list awaiting them. Rap, R B, Rock, Plays, and Musicals just about anything that involves a

Ancient Civilization Dbq
If ancient civilizations did not invent new ideas and machines, the world would not be in the spot it is
today. Innovation is necessary for the continuation and improvement of a society. Ancient cities in the
River Valley were very intelligent and knew how to use the resources they could find. Civilizations in
the Middle East and Asia, circa 3,000 BCE, showed great success in the areas of government, science
and technology, and writing. The cities made advancements in government and the security of their
lands. For example, the Amorites rebuilt the walls of Babylon with burnt brick to keep themselves safe
from intruders (doc 3). Another instance of the advancement of government practices in ancient times
was in the Mauryan Empire under Ashoka s rule (doc 9). Ashoka had rock edicts inscribed to proclaim

The Lime By Neil Gaiman
Blurred Limes
The lime featured in chapters eleven, twelve, and thirteen of Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman seems so
misplaced it brings into speculation why it was in the book at all. The lime is first brought into the plot
through Fat Charlie s taxi driver who wants to prove to Charlie that limes really do grow on the island.
The lime becomes the only luggage Charlie has with him and when Charlie goes out to look for Mrs.
Higgler, several strangers ask if he is the one with the lime, some even proceed to ask if he would
show it to them. When Charlie returns to the hotel, the lime is there waiting for him where he left it.
He decides to take the lime with him the next time he goes out, which happens to be that night. He
runs into Daisy in the hotel s restaurant, and with the lime in his pocket, successfully grabs the
attention of everyone in the room which in turn diverts the murderous Grahame Coats course of
action. Later on, during a trip to a magical other world, Charlie asks Dragon if he s afraid of limes.
The short conversation gets him out of trouble. By then Charlie doesn t have the lime with him
anymore, but what he does have is the green fedora his father gives him earlier on in that trip to the
magical other world. Both the lime and the fedora are green, but the lime more likely symbolizes
Charlie s own development of his father s characteristics, compared to the fedora, which Charlie is
able to wear proudly, showing how unashamed he has become of his father since

singing and using his vocals even though being a rapper, that aspect of drake really separates drake
from other rappers to point where rappers are becoming like drake. Drake manages to make you feel
emotional using lyrics and diction that are amazingly great. In the song Hotline Bling drake sings
about how he left his city and his love to come back to see that she has moved on. Drake says ever
since I left the city you got a reputation for yourself now everybody knows it I feel left out. saying that
everyone knows her except drake who should know her better. Drake also makes us dance, in a
tropical vibe song called one dance drake uses drums and his majestic vocals to make a song your
body cannot refuse. The song took the nation by storm and really elevated the album to another level
and it gained respect from his peers. Another song on views called controlla had the same vibes as one

Various pollutants generated and deposited in the urban regions are washed off to the receiving waters
during storm events, resulting in receiving water quality degradation. The impacts on receiving water
quality degradation include elevated toxicity, algal blooms and excessive sedimentation.
Thus, use of stormwater pollution mitigation strategies to improve the quality of receiving waters has
become increasingly important. Water sensitive urban design (WSUD) is the stormwater management
philosophy adopted in Australia. The aims of WSUD are to manage stormwater quality and quantity to
minimise the impacts of urban developments on the surrounding environment (Lloyd et al., 2002).
WSUD concepts are developed to provide technically effective, more economical and less
environmentally damaging solutions for stormwater management.
However, there are barriers in widespread implementation of WSUD. In this regard, the long term
viability of implemented WSUD systems are perceived with high level of importance (Lloyd et al.,
2002). The primary concern is that the treatment systems adopted in WSUD approach are typically
designed considering static climate conditions. Changing climate in future scenarios including
changes to rainfall patterns and characteristics of dry periods can reduce the effectiveness of such
WSUD systems (Beecham et al., 2012).
Climate change would have a significant impact on the future functionality of WSUD. Researchers
commonly agree that

Elasticity In The Miller s Tale By Geoffrey Chaucer
Henri Bergson s theory states that tension and elasticity are required in social life to adapt to the ever
changing situations. Someone who is severely deficient in elasticity and tension will be denied access
to society either by isolation or hospitalization. For someone that is slightly deficient or has a minor
slip in elasticity or tension, the penalty will be laughter. According to Henri Bergson, the perception of
mechanical inelasticity engenders laughter and is the basis of the comic. This inelasticity is clearly
demonstrated in The Miller s tale by Geoffrey Chaucer with John and Absalon being the main targets
of the ridicule, Nicholas becomes a target towards the end of the tale. Chaucer s characterization of
those personages attitudes and behavior support Bergson s theory of mechanical inelasticity. First of
all, John the carpenter, during the whole story, is a victim of the ridicule. He is so well played by
Nicholas, who has a gift for telling people what they want to hear and manipulate them, that John will
do everything that Nicholas asks of him. When he tells John that he [shouldn t] work from [his] own
head, that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Absalon after being ridiculed by Alison finally adapts to the situation and loses his mechanical
inelasticity. According to Bergson s theory, he is no longer the target of the ridicule. He borrows a
dagger that is still hot. He comes again to Alison s window to try again and get a kiss so that he can
burn her with the dagger. Nicholas who thinks he can ridicule Absalon even more by doing the same
thing gets burned by him. Nicholas for the first time lacks awareness and fails to adapt and is therefore
rigid. Because of this, he is now the victim of the ridicule. Absalon however, gains elasticity and he
adapts, making him the one who brings the ridicule on

Following Your Dreams
What is the underlying reason as to why we do not fulfill our dreams? Maybe it is because we lack the
inner motivation and desire within ourselves; or we tend to blame other people for our failures; or
perhaps we are missing the resources that we desperately need. Sometimes it may be because others
discourage us. A dream is a personal desire to accomplish something that we want to achieve, but we
do not necessarily know where to begin or even have enough confidence within ourselves to fulfill it.
A specific factor that plays a major role in fulfilling our dreams can be the issue of gender. Many
people feel that women do not have the same opportunities that males are given in specific fields. For
example, the field of science deals with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They feel we need to be more realistic while following our dreams so that we do not set up
disappointment for our selves. Like Morgan and Emerson, we must try to believe and have hope that
one will pursue their dreams and go further. In other words, we must be supportive! If people are not
giving us support while we are making dreams and trying to follow through with them, then we may
give up. People would start to feel like their dreams were not important or worthwhile. As a result, we
tend to lack motivation to even start our goals and dreams. So, how exactly do we figure out our
dreams and then follow through with them no matter what anybody else says? Perhaps we can look to
those like McClintock that have already set and started fulfilling their goals, and then do what works

Pink Flamingo By Jennifer Price Analysis
In a world focused on material possession, the routine of an everyday lifestyle becomes dependent on
the haves owning more than the have nots. The United States culture tends to make trends and
popularity an everyday necessity to fit in. Through playful sarcasm, Jennifer Price illustrates the way
the American culture thrives off of acceptance and being bolder to not suffice but ultimately prosper.
Price characterizes the culture using a plastic pink flamingo to reveal the foolish, carefree, and
materialistic mindset the Americans possess. In her first paragraph, Jennifer Price contrasts the fun
and playful characteristics of the flamingo with the Capitalist aspects of the United States. The plastic

Throughout the whole excerpt, she mentions two sources to add to her claim; Elvis Presley and

them. Elvis is most notably associated with his music and being the king , he drove a pink Cadillac
which Price directly associates to the pink flamingo saying that he bought it after this pink
phenomenon escalated. Elvis Presley is not one that comes to mind when you think business,
professional, and cultured. Price added him to her essay to emphasize exactly how our culture is based
on famous, fun, and carefree people that create trends for us to follow. The other person mentioned is
Siegel, a gangster that built the flamingo hotel and instantly created a flow of riches to the land known
as Las Vegas. The captains of industry run our wealthy culture, however instead of businessmen such
as political figures, men who run their business based off of trends, thrive. Price also uses alliteration
stating that everything was proliferated in passion pink and how the fifties favored flashy colors such
as the hot pink used to coat the plastic flamingo. Price does this to draw the reader s attention to these
specific lines, through them she discusses how the pink flamingo wasn t enough for the many
Americans that say go big or go home . Americans made everything pink after the flamingo, from

around the skull were three layers of duct tape. Dr. Garavaglia was able to note that this was done
prior to any decomposition of the body. This was because the mandible remained attached to the skull
after decomposition had occurred completely. (Casey Anthony Trial, 2011) Usually, once the soft
tissue breaks away, there is nothing holding the lower jaw to the upper skull portion. The tape had held
the mandible in place and all of the baby teeth were still in place. This is fairly unusual because baby
teeth are temporary and do not have true roots holding them in once the tissue is gone. (Casey
Anthony Case, 2013) The tape had been wound through the child s hair and was still clinging into the
tape. Over the mouth area, there was a heart shaped sticker. Investigators found similar stickers in
Casey s room. This pointed even more to the remains belonging to Caylee Anthony. Finally a
definitive answer came in. The DNA results finally came back. The findings were that the remains did
in fact belong to Caylee. Now it was Dr. Garavaglia s job to figure out how this young girl lost her

The Impact Of Policy Changes On Investment Impact On Growth
Introduction
Arguably, investment is one of the key drivers of economic growth. Economists have developed
models to analyze the effect of policy changes on investment behavior and how these changes in
investment impact on growth. One of such models is Tobin s (1969) q model of investment. Based on
the key assumption that firms face adjustment costs on their capital stock, Tobin s q is defined as the
ratio of the market value of installed capital to the replacement cost of capital.
Abel (1982) combined Tobin s q model of investment with Hall and Jorgenson s (1967 and 1971)
analyses on tax policies in order to explain the consequences of fiscal policy measures on investment.
In particular, the framework allows for a rigorous investigation ... Show more content on

In the model, investment tax credit (ITC) is modelled as an instant refund on installed capital costs.
Let Kt denote the rate of ITC at time t. Since the firm s gross investment cost is c(It) at time t, the firm

It is a way for people to express themselves through beats, lyrics, pitches and ranges. Imagine owning a music store, and a new album about police brutality is brought to your store for you to sell. An undercover cop came in and bought the album, and told you that if you didn t take the albums off the shelves you would be arrested and your store would be shut down. There are debates today on whether the government should censor the music that we listen to.Some believe it has a negative effect on the listeners and cause them to become the lyrics. Since music is a form of expression, censoring the music would be a violation of our rights. While many believe censorship to be a necessity in certain contexts, the idea of censorship is at fault in its attempt to control and stop the advance knowledge of the world today. There is fear of ... Envy, greed, and revenge are at the root of the many evils that befell the inhabitants of Arda. When analyzing said themes in an attempt to better understand Middle Earth and its Peoples, it becomes apparent that evil shows itself in many ways and has many faces. The most glaring and obvious example of how evil manifests itself in the creation of the world is through Melkor. Beginning with the music of the Ainur and the themes that Iluvatar presents, Melkor first brings about discord in the creation of the world by greedily seeking to increase his power through the manipulation of the music, as well as, the other Ainur (The Silmarillion, ... Melkor first gave evil a voice through the envy he had for Iluvatars powers (p.4), for the bliss of the Valar and the beauty of the world and the choices he made to stray from Iluvatars light (The Silmarillion, p.11). The envy that festered within him gave way to something very dark and terrible and led to the first battle between the Valar and Melkor where all the light and beauty the Valar had worked so diligently to create was destroyed (The Silmarillion, p.12). The destruction of all things held dear by the Valar, and the darkness that followed did not quell Melkor s envy and greed and instead helped to fuel and strengthen his resolve. Furthermore, evil once again manifested itself through this envy and greed regarding Melkor s desire for the Imperishable Flame that he alone could not posses (The Silmarillion, p.23). • 6. The Greenhouse Movement Helps There is a quote by a man named David Battisti, who directs the UW s Earth Initiative. Director Battisti stated, average global temperatures for the past million years have never been more than 2 4 degrees higher than now. If greenhouse emissions continue unchecked, temperatures would likely be higher by the end of this century than any time since the human species evolved. (Doughton). In a nutshell, David is saying that there is no way to predict the height climate change can grow to if left unchecked. Since temperatures have never reached past a few degrees, how can predictions be made to see what catastrophes may befall us in the event of temperatures reaching higher than they have ever been? Today information will be presented to show what happening to our planet, then more information will be given concerning statistics to show how living a green lifestyle can benefit our environment. Earth is getting hotter. Almost every scientist agrees with this consensus. In fact with the dozen climate models in use today, almost all predict average temperature increases of about 3 11 degrees by the end of the century. This doesn t seem too bad though, but keep in mind that it only took a drop of 10 degrees to encase much of North America in mile deep glaciers during the ice age(Doughton). Earth heating up can result in many different national calamities. One big disaster that can somewhat correlate with rising temperatures is wildfires. They match up with rising climates for 2 ... With Still by her side, along with other members of the Philadelphia anti slavery society, Tubman soon learned all about the Underground Railroad. The curiosity exposed the hero within Harriet. In 1850, Harriet helped her first slaves escape to the North. She sent a message to her sister s oldest son that said for her sister and family to board a fishing boat in Cambridge, from there Harriet guided them from safehouse to safehouse in Pennsylvania, which was also a free state, until they reached Philadelphia. For Tubman, family came first. In September of the same year, Harriet was made an official conductor of the Underground Railroad. This meant that she knew all the routes to free territory and she had to take an oath of silence so the secret of the Underground Railroad would be kept secret. As a disciple, you should also be forgiving. If someone sins against you, you should not only forgive him seven times as Peter thought; but seventy times seven as Jesus tells us. This means there is no limit as to how many times we should forgive someone. Jesus used the parable of the unforgiving servant to demonstrate this. He tells of a king who was owed a great sum of money by one of his servants. The king let the servant off with this though. A man owed the servant a small amount of money and he still asked for it. The king found out about this and re instated his debt. The servant should have shown the same forgiveness that he was shown. Jesus used another story to indicate how we should lead our lives. A lack of preparedness may stem from the overwhelming amount of variables affecting and contributing to retirement planning. The following literature reviews provide awareness on planning for retirement. In an article by Burke Goldman (2015), three strategies are presented to adopt and implement proven features and solutions. First, automatic plan features promote enrollment and escalation to produce better outcomes. Behavioral economics contributes to the effectiveness. Examples includes hyperbolic discounting, heavily discounting the importance of future benefits in favor of immediate action, and loss aversion, motivated by avoiding loss than achieving gains. The second strategy involves instituting the 4 M s, milestones, measurement, monitoring and management. In order to reach the goal retirement age and income, the future retiree needs to recognize how much is required to save each year. Various pollutants generated and deposited in the urban regions are washed off to the receiving waters during storm events, resulting in receiving water quality degradation. The impacts on receiving water quality degradation include elevated toxicity, algal blooms and excessive sedimentation. Thus, use of stormwater pollution mitigation strategies to improve the quality of receiving waters has become increasingly important. Water sensitive urban design (WSUD) is the stormwater management philosophy adopted in Australia. The aims of WSUD are to manage stormwater quality and quantity to minimise the impacts of urban developments on the surrounding environment (Lloyd et al., 2002). WSUD concepts are developed to provide technically effective, more economical and less environmentally damaging solutions for stormwater management. However, there are barriers in widespread implementation of WSUD. In this regard, the long term viability of implemented WSUD systems are perceived with high level of importance (Lloyd et al.,

  • 33. Elasticity In The Miller s Tale By Geoffrey Chaucer Henri Bergson s theory states that tension and elasticity are required in social life to adapt to the ever changing situations. Someone who is severely deficient in elasticity and tension will be denied access to society either by isolation or hospitalization. For someone that is slightly deficient or has a minor slip in elasticity or tension, the penalty will be laughter. According to Henri Bergson, the perception of mechanical inelasticity engenders laughter and is the basis of the comic. This inelasticity is clearly demonstrated in The Miller s tale by Geoffrey Chaucer with John and Absalon being the main targets of the ridicule, Nicholas becomes a target towards the end of the tale. Chaucer s characterization of those personages attitudes and behavior support Bergson s theory of mechanical inelasticity. First of all, John the carpenter, during the whole story, is a victim of the ridicule. He is so well played by Nicholas, who has a gift for telling people what they want to hear and manipulate them, that John will do everything that Nicholas asks of him. Nicholas who thinks he can ridicule Absalon even more by doing the same thing gets burned by him. Nicholas for the first time lacks awareness and fails to adapt and is therefore rigid. Maybe it is because we lack the inner motivation and desire within ourselves; or we tend to blame other people for our failures; or perhaps we are missing the resources that we desperately need. Sometimes it may be because others discourage us. A dream is a personal desire to accomplish something that we want to achieve, but we do not necessarily know where to begin or even have enough confidence within ourselves to fulfill it. A specific factor that plays a major role in fulfilling our dreams can be the issue of gender. Many people feel that women do not have the same opportunities that males are given in specific fields. People would start to feel like their dreams were not important or worthwhile. As a result, we tend to lack motivation to even start our goals and dreams. So, how exactly do we figure out our dreams and then follow through with them no matter what anybody else says? The United States culture tends to make trends and popularity an everyday necessity to fit in. Through playful sarcasm, Jennifer Price illustrates the way the American culture thrives off of acceptance and being bolder to not suffice but ultimately prosper. Price characterizes the culture using a plastic pink flamingo to reveal the foolish, carefree, and materialistic mindset the Americans possess. Elvis Presley is not one that comes to mind when you think business, professional, and cultured. Economists have developed models to analyze the effect of policy changes on investment behavior and how these changes in investment impact on growth. One of such models is Tobin s (1969) q model of investment. Based on the key assumption that firms face adjustment costs on their capital stock, Tobin s q is defined as the ratio of the market value of installed capital to the replacement cost of capital. Abel (1982) combined Tobin s q model of investment with Hall and Jorgenson s (1967 and 1971) analyses on tax policies in order to explain the consequences of fiscal policy measures on investment. In particular, the framework allows for a rigorous investigation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 41. Analysis Of The Book Christian Travels Finally he indicates the condition of man through the journey it takes to get out of the city. In the story, Christian travels out of the city only to find that the path is almost as treacherous as the city itself. First he falls into the Bog named the Slough of Despond. The Slough is not only very hard to see, but the way though the bog is hidden from all travelers. In the Story, Help describes the slough as being desolate because of the fears, doubts, and discouraging apprehensions that come to a sinner who is enlightened (Bunyan 23). John Bunyan clearly illustrates a path that is hard to follow because leaving sin is one of the hardest things to do. Bunyan confirms that he believes that sin is hard to leave by telling us of his early hardships with temptations. The temptations of sin became so overwhelming that Bunyan felt like selling his soul to the devil and after trying to say no he gave into Satan (Abrams 2134 2137). Then later in the Journey to the Cross, Bunyan also uses the character named World to describe the many other hardships that come along the trail. Thou art like to meet with in the way which thou goest wearisomeness, painfulness, hunger, perils, nakedness, sword, lions, dragons, darkness and in a word, death and what not? (Bunyan 25). Clearly Bunyan wants to show that the condition of man is terrible because of the awful problem of sin that pulls every person away from God.
