Studying Chemical Engineering At Mcgill University
There are numerous ways to teach a new subject to someone, some strategies work better than others
depending on the discipline. Now, I am concluding my final semester of Honours Health Science and
will be going to study Chemical engineering at McGill University. Though I do not see myself being a
teacher in the near future, I hope that I can continue to tutor people in science based classes and
perhaps one day teach the subject after getting the appropriate degree needed to be a teacher in Higher
Education. I hope that one day, I can be a Chemistry teacher at either the CEGEP level, or at the
University level. I am choosing this particular discipline, since I am familiar very comfortable with the
subject, and because of how Chemistry is everywhere; it s in the foods we eat, everything we touch,
and everything we see. Along with that, every science student at CEGEP level must complete at least
2 Chemistry courses before graduating, and 3 for those in the Health Sciences. Based on what I have
seen at College level, certain teaching strategies are better suited than others depending on the course
being taught, and also based on the amount of free time a student has that can be invested in a class.
The best suited educational philosophies for teaching Chemistry would have to be Realism and
Pragmatism. Realism is very well suited to studying the subject, because of how students learn
through studying what goes on in reality (not just in theory) and due to how the philosophy is

Persuasive Essay On The Military Community
There are several social communities within the United States, and one of the biggest is the Military
community including active duty, reserves, and retired members. America s military is the biggest and
strongest military in the world, and only continues to keep growing and advancing. Due to the checks
and balances of the government also common knowledge the president is consequently the
commander in chief of the powerhouse United States Military. Recently there has been a severe
change in the military since Donald Trump came into office, causing a so called messy problem. More
specifically, a change that involves the transgender community as well. Trump declared that
transgender individuals are no longer allowed to serve in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

During the interview, he made several substantial, and exceptional, points. He, like everyone else who
has experience in and understands the military, agreed with Trump s ban on transgenders. I think
Trump did what others were afraid to do... I believe it is a utopian view to say let them serve. It is not
that simplistic (Bellis). It is important to note that he does not hate or despise transgenders, however
he just thought that it would be what is best for that community. As Bellis said in the interview, I am
not against homosexuals [or anyone in the LGBT community] in the military. They have served for
years honorably, and will continue to serve honorably regardless of politics. Yet, he brings about
several distinguished points about potential issues in the standards of the military for transgenders. As
most people know, the military has a strict discipline policy for every soldier, regardless of race,
gender, or orientation. Part of this discipline policy are both dress code and physical fitness standards.
This means that every soldier must be able to pass a physical fitness test, and must follow ordinance
with the uniform policy. This becomes problematic with transgenders when trying to decide which
physical fitness standards they should be judged on, or which dress code they can follow. Like what
Bellis said in the interview:
While a male is transitioning to a female, will they

Evacuation In Montecito Summary
In the article Rescue crews scramble to find missing in California mudslides as 10K evacuated in
Montecito the authors, Matt Gutman and Bill Hutchinson, explain the events that happened on
Thursday when Montecito experienced torrential rain and mudslides. They continue by describing the
effects that it has had on those living there as well as local businesses that have been affected.
Between all of the writings they have posted pictures allowing those who read it the opportunity to see
the extent of the damage themselves and see the rescue teams hard at work. The rescue teams, as they
mentioned, have been using rescue dogs to help them sniff out any human remains that could be
buried underneath the mud and those who have survived within buildings or trapped between rocks.
The message was clear and gave all of the information necessary to fully understand the situation
along with how long those affected will be evacuated for and how long it might take for electricity,
water, and sanitation to come back. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the authors wrote, Montecito was placed under a new evacuation order at 6 p.m. local
time Thursday. Almost the entire community about 10,000 people is now under mandatory evacuation
orders, which could last one to two weeks, according to the Santa Barbara County fire chief. (Matt
Gutman Bill Hutchinson) In that quote they give valuable information that gives people a better idea
of what to expect in the coming weeks as well as how big the problem truly is without straight up
saying that it is a big problem. Coming from that it is easy to see that they wanted to give as much
information as possible to those who want it or need

What s Eating Gilbert Grape Character Analysis
The compelling novel, What s Eating Gilbert Grape by Peter Hedges, incorporates many relationships.
The main character, 24 year old Gilbert Grape, narrates this novel. Gilbert is the main caregiver to his
dysfunctional family. He works to keep the roof over his obese mother, stressed older sister, Amy,
ungrateful younger sister, Ellen, and mentally challenged younger brother, Arnie. With all of the
unwanted responsibility, Gilbert does not have many relationships. The ones that he does have are not
meaningful and sturdy. The most interesting of these relationships are with Mrs. Carver and Becky.
These relationships, though they can be looked upon skeptically, are widely different in respect to
what these characters mean to Gilbert and what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Becky is a fifteen year old girl who is staying with her grandmother for the summer. When Gilbert
first sees her, her beauty astounds him, She has black hair, thick and full. It drapes her shoulders. She
has legs. Oh my. From where I m sitting, she is not to be believed. She is the moon (Hedges 40). He is
automatically attracted to her. Their relationship is thought provoking. On Gilbert is drawn to her out
of lust and what she represents to him, hope. He is hopeful that she will see him in a way that no one
has. He wants her to see him as a better man than he perceives himself to be. On Becky s side
however, she wants to understand Gilbert and surpass his barriers he has built up over the years.
Throughout their interaction together, Becky is also trying to help Gilbert open up and show emotions
that he has suppressed due to his terrible childhood. She succeeds by making him say good bye to his
old high school and writing down what happened the fateful day his father committed suicide. She
drew out his emotions by pushing him over the edge with the using the mirror to see his hatred,
Looking to the periphery I see Becky is holding a big, round mirror, and the face I m looking at is my
face. See. See what I mean. See the hate. (Hedges 274). Though not directly, Becky made him lose
control and act out aggressively by stomping on the mirror and lashing out at Arnie. Even though

The Excusess In I M Your Teacher, Not Your...
There are many similarities between I m Your Teacher, Not Your Internet Service Provider and The
Dog Ate My Flash Drive, and Other Tales of Woe ; both essays are written in first person and
incorporate opinions on the excuses that students have given in the past. In the first story written by
Ellen Laird, an author that has thirty years of experience being an educator and essayist explains the
difficulties of how online classes differ from face to face classes. In the other story written by Carolyn
Foster Segal, the author talks about the many excuses her students have given her over the course of
her teaching career. The writers of the two essays add in humor and sarcasm to help explain the
different examples relating to the points. The examples given in each essay explains how teachers feel
when students give them excuses.
In I m Your Teacher, Not Your Internet Service Provider , Laird is able to explain how teachers feel
when students give bogus excuses to them. She stated, One student, emailed me days after a paper was
due, indicating that he had traveled to New York for a Yankees game and would submit the essay in a
couple of weeks (Laird 417). The author mentions that this situation would not normally happen in a

had heard it all until another student gave her an overdramatic excuse causing her to reconsider reality.

Sister Carrie Research Paper
Class and Society Sister Carrie is a story of an ordinary girl, Carrie Meeber, who is from a lower
middle class. Carrie leaves her parents and her small Midwestern town. She travels to Chicago to stay
with her sister Minnie and her brother in law. She thinks that her miserable life will change by getting
a new job in Chicago. The novel represents the distinction between social classes that characters from
lower middle class face in their society. They work hard in order to rise above their middle class.
Sister Carrie focuses on the class conflict and superficial needs of characters to permanently acquire
more material goods and reach the higher class. First, the novel shows that some characters move
from small towns to big cities to improve their living. At that time, the United States industry is
growing very rapidly in big cities. There are many flourishing factories which offer different job
opportunities. People who own these factories make good money in management positions. ... Show

The Importance Of The French Revolution
The French Revolution was certainly one of the most important events in Europe s political history
and highlighted the importance of the new age of Enlightenment. The outcomes of the Revolution
were many: its short comings led to the rise of the Napoleonic Regime and Robespierre s reign
through terror led other European revolutionaries to step back in fear. However, whilst the revolution
failed to achieve all it had aimed to do; it did overthrow its monarchy, creating the first true European
Republic, and was able to introduce a slither of democratic ideology into a society used to aristocratic
dictatorship, showing other European states that the people really did have power; proving, for the
first time, that left wing ideology was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The terms of this Treaty meant that another war was almost inevitable, thus leading to the rise of
Napoleon Bonaparte.
Napoleon s 1799 coup to become the First Consul of the Republic, was the start of one of the biggest
political and societal reforms the world had ever seen. Napoleon was desperate to prove he was a just
leader, he wanted to ensure the aims of the French Revolution became law; this was notably seen with
the implementation of the Napoleonic Code, replacing the patchwork of Feudal Laws that had
previously existed. The document established the Republic as the first European country to create a
Civil Legal System, a modern and simpler concept that existed to serve the entire population.
Napoleon s reforms were unlike anything Europe had seen before and set the French First Republic at
the forefront of political innovation. France had become an example by which many European
countries would follow in the century to come.
However, the Napoleonic Wars that sprouted from Napoleon s constant changes to the international
system, in his attempt to legitimise the aims of the Revolution, ultimately led to Napoleon s downfall;
yet, the consequences of the Wars were of great importance to Europe s stability. Notably, the
Napoleonic Wars led to the creation of the Concert of Europe, an alliance between European powers
that would likely not have occurred without the French Revolution or Napoleon.

The Case Study On Leanne It
After reading the case study on Leanne it is quite easy to highlight where her stress may be coming
from. Leanne is a single mum to three youngsters that all deliver some sort of learning difficulty or
additional needs. Since the birth of her youngest son Luke, who was born with cerebral palsy, Leanne
s life has changed dramatically. The birth of a child to any parent can be traumatic, but to have a
difficult labour, resulting in a child having a disability, is challenging in more than one way. Since the
birth of Luke, Leanne s stress seems to have gone from bad to worse. Leanne left her job to look after
her disable son Luke, meaning she no longer could enjoy the social aspects that came with her job.

If you score 150 300 units, this implies you have a 50% chance of suffering from a major breakdown
in the next 2 years and anything over 300 raises the odds to about 80% (Holmes and Rahe, 1967). In
retrospect to Leanne, I have only so far mentioned a few of the stressful life events that are occurring
and if I was to add up her units with just these few events, she would be scoring 65 units for a marital
separation, 44 units for a major change in the health or behaviour of a family member, 18 units for
major change in social activities. 29 for major changes in work and 38 in major changes in financial
state. These alone without all her other problems and issues add up to 194 units; meaning per Holmes
Rahe model, she is more likely to have a breakdown in the next 2 years. Even though the SRRS does
not take into consideration the individual differences in this model and the data does not prove that
stress causes illness, therefore we cannot say that life changes cause illness. However, there appears to
be a relationship between life changes and illness; consequently, giving you an insight into just how
stressful Leanne s life is. Additionally, Leanne is also facing daily hassles in her life. Research shows
that daily hassles affect our long term health and mood and may take more of a toll on our health than
even major life events, like bereavement; due to the frequency of the stressors occurring. Leanne is

Defining Identity Essays
There are millions of words across the globe that are used to describe people and uncover their
identity, but what is identity? How can you begin to describe something that varies so greatly from
one human being to another? Can you create a universal meaning for a word describing human
concepts that people often fail to define for themselves? Of course there isn t one definition to define
such a word. It is an intricate aspect of human nature, and it has a definition just as complex.
Webster s dictionary describes identity as sameness of essential character, individuality, or the fact of
being the same person as one claims to be. So your identity can include your name, your age, your job
title, or simply characteristics of your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everyone has heard that it is who you are on the inside that counts. This part of your identity is what
makes a person truly unique. It is true that someone can have the same name, be the same age, or have
the same job as you. So your identities would seem very similar. It is possible for two people from the
same place that share such numerous interests to believe that they are one and the same. That is until
you take a closer look and examine the person?s thought and feelings. No two people are exactly
alike. Our identities spawn individuality. Therefore, your identity also shows what kind of person you
are beneath the skin. It is a picture of how your view your self and your purpose in the world.
Since identity is so often built from fads, it is a reflection of culture. People want to be like what they
see on television and hear on the radio. So people mold themselves to be like the idols they are so
infatuated with. It?s always about what?s popular, and by looking at a large group you can tell what
that is at any given time, because people like to connect their identities with one another. It creates a
sense of belonging and acceptance that humans need in order to feel like they fit into society. People
have to be able to bond with one another. Having a vastly different identity makes you an outcast, and
no one wants to know how it feels to be the loner. So people alter themselves to ensure that they will

The Play Developed By The Molasses Flood
The indie game scene has blossomed in recent years as the home console market has welcomed small
developers with open arms to self publish their titles and reach a gaming audience and community
once inaccessible to them. Indie games and their developers often take risks with game design, and
express their ideas in fresh and creative ways. The Flame in the Flood, an indie title developed by The
Molasses Flood, is one of these titles as it places the player in the role of a young woman who is
accompanied by her dog as they travel down a treacherous river and scavenge for food and other
resources.
The world in which the game takes place has become flooded, and the player must navigate their way
down river to find shelter, resources, and valuables to stay alive. One could interpret the flame in the
title as a symbol of desire and willpower, meanwhile the flood is the constant struggle and battle that
one must face. The Flame in the Flood will not appeal to everyone as the game s atmosphere and
setting is of the gloomy and isolated variety, but those interested in the survival genre will find a
challenging game that has charm buried underneath its tough exterior.
If you are in need of a lengthy tutorial or gradual means of progress, you won t find that in The Flame
in the Flood. The game starts off by placing you in a dire situation as you scavenge for resources in
the opening area, and are then immediately pushed on your makeshift boat so that you move towards
other areas to

School Uniform Policy
Every year there is a new debate going on in the public schools about whether or not school uniforms
are necessary. Some parents think that school uniforms should be enforced, as they feel it brings
structure, safety, modesty and a lack of ridicule to our children. On the other hand, there are parents
that argue that it takes away a child s freedom of expression, independence, free spirit and
individuality. Both of these arguments are valid, I hope to help give some insight into this subject, so
that you can gather current and valid information. In President Clinton s State of the Union Address,

Or what if their on a field trip it would be easier to find the students that belong to your school. School
uniforms originate from the 16th century in England. It signaled the lower class statistic.
To this day, all schools require uniforms in the United Kingdom. In the U.K. all school members have
respect for others, the schools and themselves. The schools are very strict as well, they make the
students quietly walk the halls (like a library), and then when they get to their classroom they have to
stand in the hallway until they are invited into the classroom, then they have to stand by their desk or
table, until they are welcomed to sit. All the uniforms are pretty basic; girls get skirts, jumpers, slacks,
and a shirt, shoes (most of the time black) and stockings. Boys get slacks, collared shirt, tie and
sweater.
They wear the sweater until high school, then they get a blazer (Walmsey, A). In the United States our
schools are more lenient on the uniform policy, than the in the U.K., they have an opt out program.
They are required by law to have an opt out program, it maybe against the child s religion, or as
something the parents just do not believe in. which can cause bullying because kids are cruel to each
other if there is any kind of differences? The schools in the U. S. also allow different kinds of

The Presidential Election Of Florida Essay
Florida is a popular state when discussing political controversy. The media rushes to Florida during
congressional and presidential elections due to its reputation as a conflicted state. Here we find the
southern regions to be rather liberal and voting democratically, and on the other hand, we see the
northern regions voting mostly conservatively. This creates controversy in the United States because
Florida is a major determining factor of what kind of outcome we are going to get for a presidential
election. This can be especially stressful for those running for office either presidentially or for the
state specifically because they are unaware of their chances of gaining the states support and being
elected into office. Florida has been being a large impact on the outcome of presidential campaigns in
past elections. One of these years in history was 1876 between Democrat Samuel J. Tilden and
Republican Rutherford B. Hayes. During this election, Tilden and the Democrats were accused of
winning southern states through violence and fraud causing Republicans to demand vote recounts.
After recounts, Republicans were accused of throwing out Democratic votes so Hayes would gain
support from states that were once Tilden s (Morris 2003). For this election, Florida played a key role
along with a few other states because of the electoral votes that were key in determining who would
win this entire presidential election for that year. More recently in 2000, Florida had another

It s Not A Moment Of Perfect American Moral Clarity

A: I agree with Jenkins statement of It s not a moment of perfect American moral clarity because
Efimova did not mean for the medication she took to stay in her system for a long period of time.
Widely shaming Efimova at the Rio Olympics because she took suggested medication a while back
was not right on the American swimmer King and audiences parts. When the American swimmer
Jessica Hardy had taken a enhancement that was forbidden she was not treated as an outsider. When
stories are misinterpreted or manipulated that should not turn to shamming other people, especially if
you do not know the entire actuality. What King perhaps did not recognize was that Efimova had went
to her physician and was recommended medicine that would potentially help her heart and general
health. Europeans trust that too much severe training can damage your well being. Going back to

being, there is no certain amount of time it takes for the medication to get out of your system. B:

The And Its Effects On The Human Brain
Introduction
Over the last hundred years much was learned about the localisation of function in the human brain
than ever before. Gall and his followers through the trials of phrenology started investigating the
functions of the brain but soon that was replaced by the by solid neuroscientific evidence from
experiments in other animals (Kringebach Rolls, 2004). However, even with the the evolution of
human neuroimaging over the last 15 20 years, still some researchers use this technique in a way that
resembles a kind of modern day phrenology (Kringebach Rolls, 2004). Furthermore, it is of vital
importance to be aware of the fact that these interesting pictures of the brain can potentially mislead us
if not interpreting them based on the wealth of scientific evidence gained by diverse and various
methods from both humans and other animals(Kringebach Rolls, 2004).
According to Cavada Schzult s (2004) orbitofrontal cortex is one of the least explored and least
understood regions of the primate cerebral cortex, a part of the frontal lobe that lies on the top of the
orbit. Classic clinical evidence proposes that the orbitofrontal cortex is engaged in critical human
operations, such as social integration and the regulation of emotional states, drive and responsibility,
and generally traits that are vital in shaping the personality of an individual.
Kringebach and Rolls (2004) argues that the orbitofrontal cortex can be used in various ways as a

The Evolution Of Quality Management
I always enjoy reading about the history of something because it tends to show you the evolution of it.
In this case, the evolution of Quality is there. In the definition of quality in Chapter 2, Feigenbaum and
Crosby both state what they think is the contributing part of quality. Feigenbaum believes that meeting
the customers expectations is the key, while Crosby feels that if you put an impeccable product out,
then that s quality. However, Goetsch and Davis define a hybrid version of Feigenbaum and Crosby s
thoughts on Quality, which incorporate the constant change that is the customer. The customer is the
driving force that makes business produce goods and services. Each era in the history of quality has its
place. Lessons learned along the way have shaped where we are today Quality Management. In the
craftsmanship era, businesses had relationships with their small town customers who produced small
scale personable products or services that could be shared word of mouth. In order to take quality
business into the future there had to be major changes if companies were going to be able to produce
quality on the global scale. Quality managers tried everything from getting the employees to believe in
their work, receive awards, and incentives to do more with less. The history of Quality Management
has driven goods and services to be great, and change with the customers expectations which continue
changing.
Chapter 3: Quality management encompasses a combination of

The word audience is so much part of our everyday talk that its complexity is often taken for granted.

depends if an individual has been brought up to dislike fruit, etc. the audience is also given more
credit, and it s understood that they mat react in different ways.
Reception theory is the social interaction aspect, and the Two Step Flow theory is also similar.
Formulated first in the The People s Choice, the hypothesis suggests that ideas often flow from radio
and print to the opinion leaders and from them to the less active sections of the population. (Lazarfield
and Katz, 1970)
Paul Felix Lazerfiled originally came up with this theory, and then later, Elihu Katz began working
with him. The two of them looked at during the presidential elections, how the votes make up the
audience s minds and wrote a book exploring the different factors of it. They speculated how the mass
media connects with people, however this communication is routed through opinion leaders. These
people are very media literate and they link their understanding to others. The mass media uses
comedians as the opinion leaders, as they take real life news, and analyse it in a comical way, and the
mass media probably entrust the comedians more, as they come across less bias and less of an
agender, and the public find the news sometimes so bias, it was almost comical. Two Step Flow theory

The Argument Of Mats, By Managing Culture
INTRODUCTION
This paper seeks to support the argument of Mats Alvesson that by managing culture, it is possible to
facilitate positive outcomes beneficial to stakeholders in an organization. It also suggests that
employers and employees can have mutually beneficial relationship and achieve organizational
performance. To analyse and evaluate the argument, it is important to define and understand the
concept of culture and control .
2.0 DEFINITION OF CULTURE
According to Schien (2010), culture is how we are supposed to feel and act in a given society or
organization which has been taught by various social experiences as a way to maintain social order.
Schuller et al (2012) also defined culture as the way of behaving and believing that a ... Show more

Control is an important function that managers must perform to ensure things are moving in the right
direction and to keep errors at the barest minimum. Control ensures effectiveness and efficiency in an
organization.
FORMS OF CONTROL
There are various forms of control which include;
Behavioural Control
This is a form of control where managers closely monitor what employees do and have penalties for
disobedience. For Example, where employees have to clock in and out in an organisation or have a
dress code at work.
Cultural Control
Here, employees have a personal relationship with the organisation and support the organisations
goals and objectives. Oftentimes, employees are unaware that management influences the way they
behave. For example, spme organisations provide all facilities like the gym, nursery, cafes in one
building to always employees at work
Social Control
THEORIES OF EMPLOYMENT RELATIONS
It is indeed possible to achieve organizational outcomes beneficial to employees and shareholders. To
determine this, it is pertinent to discuss the forms of employment relations. Firstly;
Unitarist Theory
This theory assumes that the management of an organization has the right and authority to lead and,
any form of opposition to this is regarded as irrational and

Animas River Environmental Effects
Recently, a contractor working for the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) unintentionally
released 3 million gallons of toxic mine waste into the Animas River in the Mountain West state of
Colorado. Today, people in the US are debating the efficacy of the EPA (the right wing is using the
spill as anti government propaganda) and the toxic aftermath the spill will undoubtedly have on local
economies, communities and ecosystems. So far, the spill has contaminated the Animas River, San
Juan River, and the Colorado River in Utah. In addition, several water supply systems have been
affected by the spill. While the river system mostly serves farming communities, the disaster also
poses a risk to the drinking water of 17, 000 people living ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their history is all but erased, their lives destroyed in the pursuit of material wealth (resource
extraction). Superficial statues and hollow tributes now stand where vibrant human communities once
lived for millennia. The US Government, unrecognized by vast portions of Native Americans, hence
illegitimate in their eyes, ruthlessly imposed treaties, laws, cultural mandates and regulations on a
population who never asked for such measures. There was resistance, but it was stamped out. Thus,
the bloody history of European settlement is never far from the minds of indigenous people living in
the US. It would be wise to recall the Sand Creek massacre of 1864, where a 700 man force of
Colorado Territory militia attacked and destroyed a peaceful village of Cheyenne and Arapaho in
southeastern Colorado Territory, killing and mutilating an estimated 70 163 Indians, about two thirds
of whom were women and children. Indeed, from Sand Creek to My Lai, from Kandahar to Fallujah,
US state sponsored terror always produces the same results: massacres, mutilated bodies and

Jay Gatsby Past
In The Great Gatsby the main character Jay Gatsby not only contends with the past, but also is utterly
consumed by the past. The entirety of the novel portrays Gatsby s overwhelming desire to reinvigorate
a love affair from his earlier years. For Gatsby he never fully contended with the loss of the women he
desired, and as such Gatsby s constructed his life completely absorbed in the past.
After Gatsby lost Daisy he devoted his life to rekindle their love. He spent his early years becoming
the man he wished he was when Daisy was still his, he invented just the sort of Jay Gatsby a seventeen
year old would invent, and to this conception he was faithful to the end (105). For Gatsby his past was
the most significant portion of his life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novel Gatsby was never going to win over Daisy s heart, but his continually effort to do so
essentially makes the reader pity his worthless and ironic pursuit to build his life to win over a past
love, when he s undeniably just too late. The readers can also observe Gatsby s complete devotion to
his dream even when confronted about it ludicrously. When Nick tells Gatsby that he can t repeat the
past he rebuts by stating, Can t repeat the past...why of course you can (118). Here the reader can
sympathize with Gatsby, as they begin to understand just how much he is consumed by his fantasy.
Additionally, when Nick reminisced at the end of the novel on Gatsby endeavor to relive the past he
stated, it eluded us then, but that s no matter to morrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther
(193). Here Nick classifies Gatsby s pursuit in a nonjudgmental way because it is truly something the
reader can relate to: reaching for something beyond grasp. Although the reader pities Gatsby there is
still an element of understanding for his yearning to be with Daisy once

The Israeli Palestinian Conflict Of Palestine Essay
115,000 is the total estimated number of civilians, armed forces, and others involved killed since the
start of the Israeli Palestinian conflict in the late 19th century. Throughout the past several decades the
Israeli Zionists and Palestinian natives have fought over a section of land in the Middle East for
recognition as an independent or bi national country. This has led to a war in which a peaceful
solution, and not just managing the problem but attempting to end the problem is paramount. The
history of the Israeli Palestinian conflict begins around 1880 whenever the original Zionist movement,
creation of a homeland for Jews in Palestine, was first formed and thousands of Jews migrated to the
then Ottoman Empire occupied Palestine. At the end of World War I, in 1918, the British controlled
the Palestine area and encouraged Jewish migration to the newly British mandated Palestine.
Throughout the following years, up to 1939, violent riots or revolts, depending on who was describing
them, would break out killing many. After World War II ended, and the United Nations was formed, in
1947 the U.N. gathered the General Assembly to attempt to solve the problems in Palestine creating
two separate states, one for Jews and another for Arabs. War breaks out as the nearby Arab states
reject the plan. When the war ended 700,000 Palestinians fled, Jordan controlled the West Bank and
east Jerusalem, and Egypt controlled the Gaza Strip (Shikhmanter).

Long Term Store
Atkinson and Shiffrin assumed that the longer an item was held in short term store, the greater the
probability that it would be transferred to long term store and hence stored more durably.
Craik and Lockhart suggested that rather than concentrate on a structure view of memory, it might be
more beneficial to concentrate on the processes that contribute to remembering. They suggest that
what if they recalled, possibly not some item that has been loaded in a store, but rather that the after
effect of processing remain. they made the further assumption that processing began at a relatively
superficial and shallows level and proceeded to deeper level, with shallow processing giving rise to

REFERRED TO ALREADY existing evidence to suggest that short term memory was typically

How Large Is The Current U.S. Budget Deficit And How Has
How large is the current U.S. budget deficit and how has it changed over the last few years? The
projected Unites States budget deficit for fiscal year 2017 is a staggering $559 billion dollars. A
budget deficit occurs when the government spends more than it receives in revenue over a specific
period of time (Schiller, Hill, Wall, 2013, p. 251). Currently the US government runs on a fiscal year
(FY) which begins October 1st each year. The projected rate of 2017 s deficit is 17.6 % of expected
revenues of $3.4 trillion which is only slightly lower than FY 2016. The 2016 deficit represented 3.2
% of gross domestic product (GDP) rising from 2.4% in FY 2015 (Congressional Budget Office,

never been debt free. At the time of this writing the US National debt was $19,975,211,704, and
changed over the time of typing in the figure (Federal Reserve, 2017). National debt is accumulated
debt of the federal government (Schiller, Hill, Wall, 2013, p. 261). This astronomical figure is difficult
to fully grasp. To break it down in simple terms; that amounts to $61,55 per US citizen, and $166,775
per tax payer. With the median income at just over $30,000, there is simply no way the nation can pay
the debt off by raising taxes alone (Federal Reserve, 2017). At issue, who owns this debt? The US
Citizen does, strangely enough at 65.6%. Social Security owns roughly 16%, other federal entities
own 13% and the Federal Reserve owns an additional 12%. The other 34.4% of US debt is owned by
other countries and foreign interests (Patton, 2014). This could potentially lead to national security
issues if the foreign investors decided to cash in Treasury securities all at once. That is not likely as
the United States is still one of the most secure places to invest. In addition, being arguably the most

The Nature of Women Portrayed by Circe and Calypso in The Odyssey
In Homer s composition, The Odyssey, the roles women play are very significant. The best examples
of the true nature of women occur when Odysseus encounters Circe and Calypso. These two
characters illustrate the thoughts and feelings of how women how a woman feels and how they think.
As the quote states, Circe and Calypso illustrate how women really can be crafty, intelligent, sneaky,
disloyal, and cruel. In contrast to battles with men, Cyclops, or animals, sexual battles with women are
sometimes much more difficult to win.
These two female characters are especially enticing to Odysseus because they are goddesses. Though

This time spent on Circe s island was a test of whether he could resist lust from a goddess, and he
fails. At first it appears as though the only reason Odysseus sleeps with Circe is to regain his
companions, but she easily persuades them to stay. What makes it worse is the fact that Odysseus is
not even the first one ready to go. His men are the ones who urge him to leave: What ails you now? It
is time to think about our own country (Book X, line 472). At a glance, it appears that Odysseus is
merely succumbing to Circe s schemes for reasons related to their health and well being, if we read
between the lines, we soon begin to realize that Odysseus is weak in the voracious hands of lust.
Odysseus arrives on Calypso s island in her cave. At first, it seems like Odysseus doesn t seem much
to mind her taking care of him, but over time it is plainly evident that he is unhappy with her. When
Hermes arrives on Calypso s island to give her the message from Zeus to release Odysseus, he is
bawling on the beach a daylong activity for him. Calypso is holding him with her by force; she has no
companions to help him back to Ithaca, nor has she a ship to send him in. Athena pleads with Zeus to
give Odysseus good fortune,

Understanding Medical Terminology
Discuss the importance of understanding medical terminology for medical administrators? It allows
medical administrators and all healthcare workers to communicate in one language. To protect a
patient information You will use it every day when you work in the healthcare field. If you have to get
your medical dictionary out every time you get asked to do something, you will be wasting valuable
time. Nurses, doctors, and other health care professionals do not have time to waste, especially in an
emergency situation. One small mistake can make a big difference. You could give the wrong
medication or just give the right medication the wrong way. It can be the difference between ordering

The United States Congress
Today, the United States Congress has two main purposes in our government; to create the laws of the
land and to represent the American people. But, the main reason for creating a congress in the
beginning was because of a growing outcry against British rule over the colonies. In 1774, delegates
from 12 of the 13 colonies met in Philadelphia for the First Continental Congress. The announced
purpose of the congress was to deliberate and determine on wise and proper measures . . . for the
restoration of union and harmony between Great Britain and America (Volkomer, Walter E.. 2012).
They sent a list of grievances to King George III, calling for repeal of the Intolerable Acts a series of
punitive laws passed by the British Parliament. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are 100 Senators in the Senate and 435 Representatives in the House. Both chambers of
Congress meet in the Capitol building in Washington D.C. (Volkomer, Walter E.. 2012) Members of
the House of Representatives serve two year terms and are referred to as congressman or
congresswoman. During their two year term, they serve the people of a specific congressional district
or area. Their main duties are to introduce bills and resolutions, serve on committees, and offer
amendments. It s also important to note that the Constitution states that any bill that raises revenue
must originate in the House of Representatives. Members of the Senate serve six year terms and are
usually looked upon more as a representative of their state rather than individuals. One thing the
Senate has is the ability to block legislation coming through by way of a filibuster. Generally
speaking, though, the House and the Senate operate mostly in the same capacity. The House is known
to be a little faster paced and the Senate is known to be a little slower and more deliberate. As stated
earlier, the main role of Congress is to create laws. The procedure for creating laws in America is
fairly simple on the surface, but there are a lot of layers that some people find confusing to follow.
First a Senator or Representative needs to have an idea for a new law. They then need to produce a
rough draft of the idea and sponsor it. This action turns the

Luther Burbank Research Paper
Luther Burbank was a horticulturist. A horticulturist is someone who uses scientific knowledge to
cultivate and propagate plants, and then uses that knowledge to provide technical information to fruit ,
vegetable , and flower growers as well as farmers. Luther Burbank was born March 7, 1849 in
Lancaster, Massachusetts. After his father s death, Burbank moved with his family to a small farm in
Groton. At the age of twenty one he purchased seventeen acres of land near Lunenburg and began a 55
year plant breeding career. Inspired by Charles Darwin s Variation of Animals and Plants Under
Domestication, Burbank determined that better plants could be developed through natural selection
and new varieties created through crossbreeding, or hybridization. ... Show more content on

A naturalist is a person who studies or is an expert in natural history, especially a zoologist or botanist.
John Muir was born April 21, 1838, in Dunbar, Scotland. When he was a young child he enjoyed
learning and creating inventions and after showing his inventions at the state Fair, Muir attended the
University of Wisconsin during the early 1860s. John left school in 1863 and he took up studying
botany and exploring the natural world by foot while taking on jobs to support himself. he was blinded
for a time when he was in involved in an accident while he was working at a factory in 1870. Upon
regaining his sight, he fully embraced his devotion to nature and walked from Indiana to Florida,
creating detailed sketches of the terrain. Muir became known for his articles that praised the natural
world, speaking in poetic, spiritual terms about his affection for the ecology and humanity s earth
connection, garnering a large and varied readership. He also published a grouping of essays pushing
for the establishment of Yosemite National Park, which was created in 1890. Muir became a major
figure in the creation of parks for the Grand Canyon and Sequoia regions as well. He was the author of
several books as well, including The Mountains of California (1894), Our National Parks (1901),
Stickeen: The Story of a Dog (1909) and My First Summer in the Sierra (1911). John Muir taught us

Passing In Home To Harlem
Women of the Harlem Renaissance Novels: The Stark Differences Between The Women of Passing
and Home to Harlem In the novels Home to Harlem and Passing, the representation of women
characters is very different. In terms of personality, social class, and relationships with other
characters, the women characters in both novels are distinctive from each other in many ways. The
middle class women of Passing provides insight to the drama of passing as white, while the women of
Home to Harlem provides more sexual politics and dynamics between them and the male characters.
Both novels present women characters in different social classes and backgrounds, which help further
both plots as a result. In Nella Larsen s Passing, both of the primary ... Show more content on

This is a stark difference when compared to the presentation of women in another Harlem Renaissance
novel, Home to Harlem by Claude McKay. In McKay s novel, the plot mostly circulates around male
protagonist Jake, however the women characters still have a strong impact. Unlike Passing, the
women of Home to Harlem are part of a supporting cast of characters, and are of lower class standing.
Instead of attending tea parties and going window shopping, the women of Home to Harlem mostly
work at clubs and brothels to make a living. However, the women characters of Home to Harlem
actually have more power over some of the male characters. This is especially true when looking at
the relationship between Zeddy and Susy. In the chapter Zeddy s Rise And Fall , Zeddy gets kicked
out by Susy due to him seeing other women in Harlem. Susy had previously warned Zeddy about
going to Harlem clubs to see other women. The narrator states; The enjoyment of Harlem s low
nightlife was prohibited to Zeddy. Susy was jealous of him in the proprietary sense. She believed in
free love all right, but not for the man she possessed and supported. (82) Once she finds out that
Zeddy did not listen to her warning, she immediately kicks him out of their

However, human meanings and concerns are difficult to be formalised. Consequently, nursing
theorists have considered other legitimate ways of knowing.5 Carper s paper on patterns of knowing
was a landmark in the nursing literature which extended in a new perspective our understanding of
types of knowledge and theory needed in a practice oriented discipline such as nursing.6 Her work
was published in a time that nursing was struggling to obtain a consensus of identity with a unique
body of knowledge.7 Nursing was very much influenced by scientism which holds the positivistic
view that the only reality is the one which can be empirically verified.6 Carper, stated that the only
valid and reliable knowledge of that time in nursing was empirical, factual, objectively descriptive,
and generizable .4 However, in addition to empirical knowledge, Carper identified ethics aesthetics,
and personal knowing. She suggested that these patterns are all necessary, interrelated, interdependent
and overlapping, and create the whole of knowing. Carper s work counted upon the assumption that
the patterns and structure of nursing knowledge provide the unique perspectives of the discipline.
However, Boykin et al reject this thesis, proposing that is the conception of nursing which provides
the structure of nursing knowledge rather than the patterns of knowing.7 In addition, they comment on
her failure to distinguish between

Comparing The Theme Of Love In A Midsummer Night s Dream
To Be In Love With an Ass, Literally
Could you ever imagine yourself falling in love with an ass? No, not the jerkish guy down the street, a
literal ass. Can you imagine four days filled with declarations of love, hate, curses, cures, disgust, and
delight? An ultimatum so great it pits two people married for centuries against each other? Love is in
the air, and so is hate in Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream. Unfortunate circumstances fall
upon seven lovers in the woods one night, proving that love is more fickle than true.
Outside circumstances often play a role in love, but in the case of Titania and Bottom, an outside
circumstance brought them together completely. A flower hit by cupid s bow has the power to cause a
person to fall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The King and Queen seemingly have been married forever, and most likely have been fighting for
forever as well. Oberon and Titania are fairies, meaning they help bring balance to nature, but they
have been neglecting their duties because of their argument. Titiana vents, And never, since the middle
summer s spring, Met we on hill, in dale, forest, or mead, By paved fountain or rush brook, or in the
beached margent of the sea (2.1.82). While they argue and avoid each other the nature they are
supposed to be taking care of is beginning to show the neglect, And, through this distemperature, we
see The season alter: hoary headed frosts Fall in the fresh lap of the crimson rose, and on old Heim s
thin and icy crown an odorous chaplet of sweet summer buds is, as in mockery, set (2.1.108). The
reason the King and Queen are fighting is rather strange, Oberon wants a mortal boy whom Titania
has taken as her ward. Oberon gives no reason as to why he wants the boy so bad, he probably just
wants him because Tatiana loves him so much. Titana befriended a mortal woman and spent hours
gossiping with her, laying on the sands by the shore, and when the mortal woman got pregnant and
died during childbirth, Titans made a promise to raise the child. Oberon was annoyed with Tatiana s
stubbornness and set out to make her pay by cursing her to fall in love with something humiliating,

The Successful Treatment Of Malaria
The successful treatment of malaria infections solely dependent upon the use of the most effective anti
malaria drugs to eradicated the parasite from the individual s blood. The treatments differ for
complicated and uncomplicated infections. The greatest obstacle healthcare workers face is the
increased resistance of the Plasmodium parasite to drug therapy. The Plasmodium falciform species
has become increasingly resistant in the regions affect by the strain (1).
In an effort to avoid drug resistance, the current recommendation of the World Health Organization is
the use of two more anti malaria drugs for the treatment of uncomplicated P. falciform malaria
infections. In order to achieve the desired effect the drug combinations must have different modes of
action. The formal name for this form of therapy is artemisinin based combination therapy (ACT) (1).
Artemisinin defines the group of drugs that have the most rapid action in the treatment of P. falciform
malaria. The drug has been shown to eradicate both the resistant and susceptible stains P. falciform
(2). The idea is use an artemisinin along with a drug from a different class to maximize the treatment
outcomes (2).
In complicated malaria cases, the WHO recommends intramuscular injection of a water soluble drug
name artesunate. It is a synthetic derivative of the artemisinin that is more biologically active. The
drug is capable of stopping parasite development and preventing the adherence of erythrocytes to

The following report is a brief comparative analysis of two of Australia s largest deposit taking
financial institutions (FI), Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Ltd. (ANZ) and Westpac
Banking Corporation (Westpac). This report seeks to identify which of the FIs has a greater aggregate
return per dollar of equity and thus establish the highest performer, or most profitable, of the two. The
Return on Equity Model (ROE) (Koch amp; MacDonald, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to ROA, ANZ s profitability fell short of Westpac s by 0.146%, with the ROA percentage at
0.95% and 1.096% respectively (Appendix A). The difference in profits is caused by Westpac s
substantially higher total assets, which outweigh ANZ s by $75,740,000. Although ANZ has a greater
level of liquid assets, Westpac s substantially higher loan portfolios generate higher returns. The lower
ROA is caused by ANZ s interest bearing assets under performing, or carrying lower risks leading to
lower yields, or a greater reliance upon non interest bearing assets. ROE is linked to ROA through the
EM.
ANZ s 2011 EM was 15.62x, slightly higher than Westpac s 15.35x, suggesting ANZ s assets are
funded by more debt than Westpac, this combined with lower returns is usually indicative of a low
performing institution (Koch amp; MacDonald, 2010, pg. 122). Further decomposition leads to
analysis of the Expense ratio (ER) and Asset Utilisation (AU).
ANZ s overall ER of 4.99% is relatively lower than Westpac s at 5.36% (Appendix A) supporting the
earlier conclusion that ANZ s lower ROA is caused by lower earning interest bearing assets rather than
an inability to control expenses (Koch amp; MacDonald, 2010, pg. 122). ANZ s lower ER can be
attributed to its considerably lower Interest Expense (IE) percentage, 3.35% compared with Westpac s
4.05% (Appendix A), suggesting that, during

Backing to (Table 2), we can start from the NCO relative reactivity for the primary hydroxyl attached
to carbon atom (equal 2.5), it is known that the electronegativity of the silicon atom is lower than the
carbon atom according to the periodic table of electronegativity by Pauling scale [22], so the
difference in electronegativity between the Si atom and the OH group will be higher than difference in
electronegativity between the carbon atom and the OH group, led to higher polarity and more
reactivity of the H3Si OH than H3C OH molecule. Also, in addition to the attached vinyl group to the
silicon atom, so, the relative reactivity of the silanol towards the diisocyanate must be greater than 2.5

I Carry Your Heart With Me
E. E Cumming s poem [i carry your heart with me(i carry it in] conveys a love poem about how the
persona feels about the one they love. It is not stated whether the speaker is a male or female, but it is
clear how they feel about their lover. Not only does the speaker express his love about the person, but
also about nature. While Cummings expresses himself as a poet who does not seem to abide by
normal poetic routines, he uses trochee, parallelism, syntax, and enjambment for the strength in this
poem.
Cumming s uses trochee and parallelism in each meter. The spaces in each start of a new breath, the
lowercase letters and the parentheses he adds to his poems distinguishes him from other poets.
Another difference between him and other poets is he does use the traditional end rhymes but syntax.
The trochees present in this poem appear as dum da dum da, in the words i go, you go , represented in
line 3. In lines 8 9 Cummings places ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cummings may seem confusing to the reader as he uses a lot of it is, but it isn t detail. For example, in
lines 3 4 the speaker claims that whatever is done by only him is lover is also doing, which means
nothing is ever truly done by him, but it is and also in lines 5 6 when he says i fear no fate(for you are
my fate, my sweet) meaning that the lover is their fate. Cummings talks about love in a more
foundational and strong way to connect two lovers instead of puppy love and ruby hair. It is not a
typical love poem because Cummings uses imagery and visuals to explain the love between the two
lovers. He does not focus on just getting the other person, but about connecting and the world as a
whole. With his diction and wordplay, Cummings allows the reader to develop a different meaning
and understanding of love. Not the common love that everyone knows about, but the out of the realm

Compare And Contrast The Last Judgement And The Sistine...
Both of the paintings by Michelangelo are excellent examples of Renaissance era art. These two
paintings are the Last Judgment and the Sistine Chapel ceiling. The ceiling was worked on from 1508
to 1512 and shows many themes common throughout Renaissance art. One of the most prominent is
the stunning realism in both pieces. Despite there being hundreds of figures is both pieces each is
extremely realistic. There s a huge stress on the human figure in this painting and they look as though
they could be real people. There s also a fair amount of perspective, although this isn t one of the most
important parts of the paintings.
Another interesting motif is the international influence in the paintings. Even though the paintings
have extremely Catholic origins they have some elements of other cultures. One of the biggest ways
this is shown is in the sibyls that are between some of the scenes. These sibyls have origins from
Africa, Asia, Greece, and Ionia. These paintings also show departure from traditional Catholic values
in some of the symbolism the paintings show. In the center of the ceiling there is a painting of man
and God, yet God is painted inside the shape of the human brain. In ... Show more content on

It is a famous example of Renaissance art showing portraiture, realism, and some perspective. In this
painting there are four distinct characters. Each has a different expression that shows how they are
feeling. There is also more detail in the faces then in any other parts of the painting. Another technique
it demonstrates is heightened realism. Whereas before the Renaissance the figures may have been
painted simply and in only enough detail to get the general idea across, these figures are shown more
realistically. Lastly there is the technique of perspective as shown in the background of the painting.

  • 2. Studying Chemical Engineering At Mcgill University There are numerous ways to teach a new subject to someone, some strategies work better than others depending on the discipline. Now, I am concluding my final semester of Honours Health Science and will be going to study Chemical engineering at McGill University. Though I do not see myself being a teacher in the near future, I hope that I can continue to tutor people in science based classes and perhaps one day teach the subject after getting the appropriate degree needed to be a teacher in Higher Education. I hope that one day, I can be a Chemistry teacher at either the CEGEP level, or at the University level. I am choosing this particular discipline, since I am familiar very comfortable with the subject, and because of how Chemistry is everywhere; it s in the foods we eat, everything we touch, and everything we see. Along with that, every science student at CEGEP level must complete at least 2 Chemistry courses before graduating, and 3 for those in the Health Sciences. Based on what I have seen at College level, certain teaching strategies are better suited than others depending on the course being taught, and also based on the amount of free time a student has that can be invested in a class. The best suited educational philosophies for teaching Chemistry would have to be Realism and Pragmatism. Realism is very well suited to studying the subject, because of how students learn through studying what goes on in reality (not just in theory) and due to how the philosophy is ... • 3. Persuasive Essay On The Military Community There are several social communities within the United States, and one of the biggest is the Military community including active duty, reserves, and retired members. America s military is the biggest and strongest military in the world, and only continues to keep growing and advancing. Due to the checks and balances of the government also common knowledge the president is consequently the commander in chief of the powerhouse United States Military. Recently there has been a severe change in the military since Donald Trump came into office, causing a so called messy problem. More specifically, a change that involves the transgender community as well. Trump declared that transgender individuals are no longer allowed to serve in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the interview, he made several substantial, and exceptional, points. He, like everyone else who has experience in and understands the military, agreed with Trump s ban on transgenders. I think Trump did what others were afraid to do... I believe it is a utopian view to say let them serve. It is not that simplistic (Bellis). It is important to note that he does not hate or despise transgenders, however he just thought that it would be what is best for that community. As Bellis said in the interview, I am not against homosexuals [or anyone in the LGBT community] in the military. They have served for years honorably, and will continue to serve honorably regardless of politics. Yet, he brings about several distinguished points about potential issues in the standards of the military for transgenders. As most people know, the military has a strict discipline policy for every soldier, regardless of race, gender, or orientation. Part of this discipline policy are both dress code and physical fitness standards. This means that every soldier must be able to pass a physical fitness test, and must follow ordinance with the uniform policy. This becomes problematic with transgenders when trying to decide which physical fitness standards they should be judged on, or which dress code they can follow. Like what Bellis said in the interview: While a male is transitioning to a female, will they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Evacuation In Montecito Summary In the article Rescue crews scramble to find missing in California mudslides as 10K evacuated in Montecito the authors, Matt Gutman and Bill Hutchinson, explain the events that happened on Thursday when Montecito experienced torrential rain and mudslides. They continue by describing the effects that it has had on those living there as well as local businesses that have been affected. Between all of the writings they have posted pictures allowing those who read it the opportunity to see the extent of the damage themselves and see the rescue teams hard at work. The rescue teams, as they mentioned, have been using rescue dogs to help them sniff out any human remains that could be buried underneath the mud and those who have survived within buildings or trapped between rocks. The message was clear and gave all of the information necessary to fully understand the situation along with how long those affected will be evacuated for and how long it might take for electricity, water, and sanitation to come back. ... Almost the entire community about 10,000 people is now under mandatory evacuation orders, which could last one to two weeks, according to the Santa Barbara County fire chief. (Matt Gutman Bill Hutchinson) In that quote they give valuable information that gives people a better idea of what to expect in the coming weeks as well as how big the problem truly is without straight up saying that it is a big problem. The main character, 24 year old Gilbert Grape, narrates this novel. Gilbert is the main caregiver to his dysfunctional family. He works to keep the roof over his obese mother, stressed older sister, Amy, ungrateful younger sister, Ellen, and mentally challenged younger brother, Arnie. With all of the unwanted responsibility, Gilbert does not have many relationships. The ones that he does have are not meaningful and sturdy. Throughout their interaction together, Becky is also trying to help Gilbert open up and show emotions that he has suppressed due to his terrible childhood. She succeeds by making him say good bye to his old high school and writing down what happened the fateful day his father committed suicide. She drew out his emotions by pushing him over the edge with the using the mirror to see his hatred, Looking to the periphery I see Becky is holding a big, round mirror, and the face I m looking at is my face. There are many similarities between I m Your Teacher, Not Your Internet Service Provider and The Dog Ate My Flash Drive, and Other Tales of Woe ; both essays are written in first person and incorporate opinions on the excuses that students have given in the past. In the first story written by Ellen Laird, an author that has thirty years of experience being an educator and essayist explains the difficulties of how online classes differ from face to face classes. In the other story written by Carolyn Foster Segal, the author talks about the many excuses her students have given her over the course of her teaching career. The writers of the two essays add in humor and sarcasm to help explain the different examples relating to the points. The examples given in each essay explains how teachers feel when students give them excuses. In I m Your Teacher, Not Your Internet Service Provider , Laird is able to explain how teachers feel when students give bogus excuses to them. She stated, One student, emailed me days after a paper was due, indicating that he had traveled to New York for a Yankees game and would submit the essay in a couple of weeks (Laird 417). The Importance Of The French Revolution The French Revolution was certainly one of the most important events in Europe s political history and highlighted the importance of the new age of Enlightenment. The outcomes of the Revolution were many: its short comings led to the rise of the Napoleonic Regime and Robespierre s reign through terror led other European revolutionaries to step back in fear. However, whilst the revolution failed to achieve all it had aimed to do; it did overthrow its monarchy, creating the first true European Republic, and was able to introduce a slither of democratic ideology into a society used to aristocratic dictatorship, showing other European states that the people really did have power; proving, for the first time, that left wing ideology was ... Napoleon s 1799 coup to become the First Consul of the Republic, was the start of one of the biggest political and societal reforms the world had ever seen. Napoleon was desperate to prove he was a just leader, he wanted to ensure the aims of the French Revolution became law; this was notably seen with the implementation of the Napoleonic Code, replacing the patchwork of Feudal Laws that had previously existed. The document established the Republic as the first European country to create a Civil Legal System, a modern and simpler concept that existed to serve the entire population. Napoleon s reforms were unlike anything Europe had seen before and set the French First Republic at the forefront of political innovation. France had become an example by which many European countries would follow in the century to come. However, the Napoleonic Wars that sprouted from Napoleon s constant changes to the international system, in his attempt to legitimise the aims of the Revolution, ultimately led to Napoleon s downfall; yet, the consequences of the Wars were of great importance to Europe s stability. Notably, the Napoleonic Wars led to the creation of the Concert of Europe, an alliance between European powers that would likely not have occurred without the French Revolution or Napoleon. ... Leanne is a single mum to three youngsters that all deliver some sort of learning difficulty or additional needs. Since the birth of her youngest son Luke, who was born with cerebral palsy, Leanne s life has changed dramatically. The birth of a child to any parent can be traumatic, but to have a difficult labour, resulting in a child having a disability, is challenging in more than one way. If you score 150 300 units, this implies you have a 50% chance of suffering from a major breakdown in the next 2 years and anything over 300 raises the odds to about 80% (Holmes and Rahe, 1967). In retrospect to Leanne, I have only so far mentioned a few of the stressful life events that are occurring and if I was to add up her units with just these few events, she would be scoring 65 units for a marital separation, 44 units for a major change in the health or behaviour of a family member, 18 units for major change in social activities. 29 for major changes in work and 38 in major changes in financial state. These alone without all her other problems and issues add up to 194 units; meaning per Holmes Rahe model, she is more likely to have a breakdown in the next 2 years. Even though the SRRS does not take into consideration the individual differences in this model and the data does not prove that stress causes illness, therefore we cannot say that life changes cause illness. However, there appears to be a relationship between life changes and illness; consequently, giving you an insight into just how stressful Leanne s life is. Additionally, Leanne is also facing daily hassles in her life. How can you begin to describe something that varies so greatly from one human being to another? Can you create a universal meaning for a word describing human concepts that people often fail to define for themselves? Of course there isn t one definition to define such a word. It is an intricate aspect of human nature, and it has a definition just as complex. Everyone has heard that it is who you are on the inside that counts. This part of your identity is what makes a person truly unique. It is true that someone can have the same name, be the same age, or have the same job as you. So your identities would seem very similar. It is possible for two people from the same place that share such numerous interests to believe that they are one and the same. That is until you take a closer look and examine the person?s thought and feelings. No two people are exactly alike. Our identities spawn individuality. Therefore, your identity also shows what kind of person you are beneath the skin. It is a picture of how your view your self and your purpose in the world. Since identity is so often built from fads, it is a reflection of culture. People want to be like what they see on television and hear on the radio. So people mold themselves to be like the idols they are so infatuated with. It?s always about what?s popular, and by looking at a large group you can tell what that is at any given time, because people like to connect their identities with one another. It creates a sense of belonging and acceptance that humans need in order to feel like they fit into society. People have to be able to bond with one another. Having a vastly different identity makes you an outcast, and no one wants to know how it feels to be the loner. So people alter themselves to ensure that they will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Play Developed By The Molasses Flood The indie game scene has blossomed in recent years as the home console market has welcomed small developers with open arms to self publish their titles and reach a gaming audience and community once inaccessible to them. Indie games and their developers often take risks with game design, and express their ideas in fresh and creative ways. The Flame in the Flood, an indie title developed by The Molasses Flood, is one of these titles as it places the player in the role of a young woman who is accompanied by her dog as they travel down a treacherous river and scavenge for food and other resources. The world in which the game takes place has become flooded, and the player must navigate their way down river to find shelter, resources, and valuables to stay alive. One could interpret the flame in the title as a symbol of desire and willpower, meanwhile the flood is the constant struggle and battle that one must face. The Flame in the Flood will not appeal to everyone as the game s atmosphere and setting is of the gloomy and isolated variety, but those interested in the survival genre will find a challenging game that has charm buried underneath its tough exterior. If you are in need of a lengthy tutorial or gradual means of progress, you won t find that in The Flame in the Flood. The game starts off by placing you in a dire situation as you scavenge for resources in the opening area, and are then immediately pushed on your makeshift boat so that you move towards other areas to ... • 13. School Uniform Policy Every year there is a new debate going on in the public schools about whether or not school uniforms are necessary. Some parents think that school uniforms should be enforced, as they feel it brings structure, safety, modesty and a lack of ridicule to our children. School uniforms originate from the 16th century in England. It signaled the lower class statistic. To this day, all schools require uniforms in the United Kingdom. In the U.K. all school members have respect for others, the schools and themselves. The schools are very strict as well, they make the students quietly walk the halls (like a library), and then when they get to their classroom they have to stand in the hallway until they are invited into the classroom, then they have to stand by their desk or table, until they are welcomed to sit. All the uniforms are pretty basic; girls get skirts, jumpers, slacks, and a shirt, shoes (most of the time black) and stockings. Boys get slacks, collared shirt, tie and sweater. They wear the sweater until high school, then they get a blazer (Walmsey, A). In the United States our schools are more lenient on the uniform policy, than the in the U.K., they have an opt out program. They are required by law to have an opt out program, it maybe against the child s religion, or as something the parents just do not believe in. which can cause bullying because kids are cruel to each other if there is any kind of differences? • 15. The Presidential Election Of Florida Essay Florida is a popular state when discussing political controversy. The media rushes to Florida during congressional and presidential elections due to its reputation as a conflicted state. Here we find the southern regions to be rather liberal and voting democratically, and on the other hand, we see the northern regions voting mostly conservatively. This creates controversy in the United States because Florida is a major determining factor of what kind of outcome we are going to get for a presidential election. This can be especially stressful for those running for office either presidentially or for the state specifically because they are unaware of their chances of gaining the states support and being elected into office. Florida has been being a large impact on the outcome of presidential campaigns in past elections. One of these years in history was 1876 between Democrat Samuel J. Tilden and Republican Rutherford B. Hayes. During this election, Tilden and the Democrats were accused of winning southern states through violence and fraud causing Republicans to demand vote recounts. After recounts, Republicans were accused of throwing out Democratic votes so Hayes would gain support from states that were once Tilden s (Morris 2003). For this election, Florida played a key role along with a few other states because of the electoral votes that were key in determining who would win this entire presidential election for that year. In the definition of quality in Chapter 2, Feigenbaum and Crosby both state what they think is the contributing part of quality. Feigenbaum believes that meeting the customers expectations is the key, while Crosby feels that if you put an impeccable product out, then that s quality. However, Goetsch and Davis define a hybrid version of Feigenbaum and Crosby s thoughts on Quality, which incorporate the constant change that is the customer. The customer is the driving force that makes business produce goods and services. Each era in the history of quality has its place. Lessons learned along the way have shaped where we are today Quality Management. In the craftsmanship era, businesses had relationships with their small town customers who produced small scale personable products or services that could be shared word of mouth. In order to take quality business into the future there had to be major changes if companies were going to be able to produce quality on the global scale. Quality managers tried everything from getting the employees to believe in their work, receive awards, and incentives to do more with less. The different types of audience theories there are will explore this, and how the audience reacts within these theories. There are many various audience theories out there, however six will be explored. The word audience is so much part of our everyday talk that its complexity is often taken for granted. (Ross Nightingale 2003) Today, media is surrounding us, whether it is television, films, magazines, games, radio, music, the news, and even billboards and posters, and we don t even acknowledge it, unless it hits us in the face. Hall also suggested that the way an audience reacts, is dependant on their cultural backgrounds and how they were brought up, for example, if the mass media s intended message is fruit is great, it all depends if an individual has been brought up to dislike fruit, etc. the audience is also given more credit, and it s understood that they mat react in different ways. Reception theory is the social interaction aspect, and the Two Step Flow theory is also similar. Formulated first in the The People s Choice, the hypothesis suggests that ideas often flow from radio and print to the opinion leaders and from them to the less active sections of the population. (Lazarfield and Katz, 1970) Paul Felix Lazerfiled originally came up with this theory, and then later, Elihu Katz began working with him. The two of them looked at during the presidential elections, how the votes make up the audience s minds and wrote a book exploring the different factors of it. They speculated how the mass media connects with people, however this communication is routed through opinion leaders. These people are very media literate and they link their understanding to others. The mass media uses comedians as the opinion leaders, as they take real life news, and analyse it in a comical way, and the mass media probably entrust the comedians more, as they come across less bias and less of an agender, and the public find the news sometimes so bias, it was almost comical. The Israeli Palestinian Conflict Of Palestine Essay 115,000 is the total estimated number of civilians, armed forces, and others involved killed since the start of the Israeli Palestinian conflict in the late 19th century. Throughout the past several decades the Israeli Zionists and Palestinian natives have fought over a section of land in the Middle East for recognition as an independent or bi national country. This has led to a war in which a peaceful solution, and not just managing the problem but attempting to end the problem is paramount. The history of the Israeli Palestinian conflict begins around 1880 whenever the original Zionist movement, creation of a homeland for Jews in Palestine, was first formed and thousands of Jews migrated to the then Ottoman Empire occupied Palestine. At the end of World War I, in 1918, the British controlled the Palestine area and encouraged Jewish migration to the newly British mandated Palestine. His parents weren t very helpful when Peter was getting bullied. Even from a young age Peter s mom wanted him to be strong about it and deal with the bullying rather than actually help him through it. He also had a best friend Josie Cormier, a best friend who used to defend from the bullies until she decided to leave him for the popular crowd in sixth grade. So after so many years and years of bullying, with no support from his family and due to the fact that he only had one friend who was also being bullied, Peter took it into his own hands to end the harassment and he went into his school and enacted his revenge. Unlike Peter, Jodee grew up as an only child in a loving supportive family. She had friends the moment she was in school, she wasn t popular but she had friends. She never had a constant friend that always defended her and was always there for her. Her parents were supportive of her when she told them about the bullying, even if she may not of liked their methods of helping her which was her going to the therapists, they were still supportive. Long Term Store Atkinson and Shiffrin assumed that the longer an item was held in short term store, the greater the probability that it would be transferred to long term store and hence stored more durably. Craik and Lockhart suggested that rather than concentrate on a structure view of memory, it might be more beneficial to concentrate on the processes that contribute to remembering. They suggest that what if they recalled, possibly not some item that has been loaded in a store, but rather that the after effect of processing remain. they made the further assumption that processing began at a relatively superficial and shallows level and proceeded to deeper level, with shallow processing giving rise to relatively poorly traces, while deep and richer levels trace that are considerably more durable. The projected Unites States budget deficit for fiscal year 2017 is a staggering $559 billion dollars. A budget deficit occurs when the government spends more than it receives in revenue over a specific period of time (Schiller, Hill, Wall, 2013, p. 251). Currently the US government runs on a fiscal year (FY) which begins October 1st each year. The projected rate of 2017 s deficit is 17.6 % of expected revenues of $3.4 trillion which is only slightly lower than FY 2016. National debt is accumulated debt of the federal government (Schiller, Hill, Wall, 2013, p. 261). This astronomical figure is difficult to fully grasp. To break it down in simple terms; that amounts to $61,55 per US citizen, and $166,775 per tax payer. With the median income at just over $30,000, there is simply no way the nation can pay the debt off by raising taxes alone (Federal Reserve, 2017). At issue, who owns this debt? The US Citizen does, strangely enough at 65.6%. Social Security owns roughly 16%, other federal entities own 13% and the Federal Reserve owns an additional 12%. The other 34.4% of US debt is owned by other countries and foreign interests (Patton, 2014). During their two year term, they serve the people of a specific congressional district or area. Their main duties are to introduce bills and resolutions, serve on committees, and offer amendments. It s also important to note that the Constitution states that any bill that raises revenue must originate in the House of Representatives. One thing the Senate has is the ability to block legislation coming through by way of a filibuster. Generally speaking, though, the House and the Senate operate mostly in the same capacity. Consequently, nursing theorists have considered other legitimate ways of knowing.5 Carper s paper on patterns of knowing was a landmark in the nursing literature which extended in a new perspective our understanding of types of knowledge and theory needed in a practice oriented discipline such as nursing.6 Her work was published in a time that nursing was struggling to obtain a consensus of identity with a unique body of knowledge.7 Nursing was very much influenced by scientism which holds the positivistic view that the only reality is the one which can be empirically verified.6 Carper, stated that the only valid and reliable knowledge of that time in nursing was empirical, factual, objectively descriptive, and generizable .4 However, in addition to empirical knowledge, Carper identified ethics aesthetics, and personal knowing. She suggested that these patterns are all necessary, interrelated, interdependent and overlapping, and create the whole of knowing. Carper s work counted upon the assumption that the patterns and structure of nursing knowledge provide the unique perspectives of the discipline. However, Boykin et al reject this thesis, proposing that is the conception of nursing which provides the structure of nursing knowledge rather than the patterns of knowing.7 In addition, they comment on her failure to distinguish between ... According to ROA, ANZ s profitability fell short of Westpac s by 0.146%, with the ROA percentage at 0.95% and 1.096% respectively (Appendix A). The difference in profits is caused by Westpac s substantially higher total assets, which outweigh ANZ s by $75,740,000. Although ANZ has a greater level of liquid assets, Westpac s substantially higher loan portfolios generate higher returns. The lower ROA is caused by ANZ s interest bearing assets under performing, or carrying lower risks leading to lower yields, or a greater reliance upon non interest bearing assets. ROE is linked to ROA through the EM. ANZ s 2011 EM was 15.62x, slightly higher than Westpac s 15.35x, suggesting ANZ s assets are funded by more debt than Westpac, this combined with lower returns is usually indicative of a low performing institution (Koch amp; MacDonald, 2010, pg. 122). Further decomposition leads to analysis of the Expense ratio (ER) and Asset Utilisation (AU). ANZ s overall ER of 4.99% is relatively lower than Westpac s at 5.36% (Appendix A) supporting the earlier conclusion that ANZ s lower ROA is caused by lower earning interest bearing assets rather than an inability to control expenses (Koch amp; MacDonald, 2010, pg. 122). One of the most prominent is the stunning realism in both pieces. Despite there being hundreds of figures is both pieces each is extremely realistic. There s a huge stress on the human figure in this painting and they look as though they could be real people. There s also a fair amount of perspective, although this isn t one of the most important parts of the paintings. Another interesting motif is the international influence in the paintings. Even though the paintings have extremely Catholic origins they have some elements of other cultures. One of the biggest ways this is shown is in the sibyls that are between some of the scenes. These sibyls have origins from Africa, Asia, Greece, and Ionia. These paintings also show departure from traditional Catholic values in some of the symbolism the paintings show.
