Finding Friendship in the film Finding Forrester Essay...
Finding Friendship in the Film Finding Forrester
In Finding Forrester a movie that takes place in the Bronx, there are two main characters, William
Forrester and Jamal Wallace who find friendship in an unlikely way because of their passion for
reading and writing. Though both are very different from each other they are drawn together by
similar interests.
The characters are different in many ways; Forrester is a male Caucasian in his mid seventies who
graduated from Columbia University and lives by himself. Forrester has confined himself to his
apartment for ten years. His only foray to the outside world is when he leans out the window to clean
off the grime. Forrester pays for all other necessities that are handled by outside ... Show more content

On the other hand, Jamal is a sixteen year old African American male who went to a private school on
a scholarship and lives with his mother and brother. Unlike Forrester, he enjoys going outside,
interacting with his friends from school and going to basketball games. Another difference between
the Jamal and Forrester is his confrontational attitude. When harassed by another student from school
on the basketball court, he handled the problem in his own way, proving his ability to do as well as the
next person, which gained the respect from the coach and the other students.
Forrester and Jamal may have a lot of differences but they also have many things in common.
Forrester s passion for reading is reflected by the number of books lining his walls and stacked on the
floor of his apartment. Jamal s ability to recites passages from many of the books he has read indicates
the pleasure he takes in reading. Another similarity is Forrester s enjoyment in writing. He published a
book and an article plus he has a file cabinet filled with other books and articles he wrote but never
published. Jamal takes pleasure in jotting down information, thoughts and daily events in books that
he carries at all times in his book bag. This gift of expressing himself in writing enabled him to obtain
a scholarship to a private school. Both characters take pleasure in sports. Before his hibernation,
Forrester always traveled to Yankee stadium with

Negative Effects Of Technology On Cell Phones
With the growth of new technology, society is becoming too dependent on cell phones. Although
communication and information may be important over a screen, it may take away from interaction in
society. Overuse can cause negative side effects when it is not available as well as take away the
overall experience of life itself. Cellular technology has contributed to negative and positive factors. It
is best to view each side and understand how to best use it for a healthy lifestyle.
To begin with, skills such as oral communication and face to face conversations are crucial to success
and understanding how to interact in society today. With the overwhelming amount of young people
over using their phones, face to face communication might be ... Show more content on

Given these points, they strongly correlate with how they reveal the dependence on cell phones and
that they contribute to psychological effects in the most unwilling and detrimental ways.
Lastly, cell phones can take away experiencing life. Getting outside and going beyond a screen can be
seen almost as therapy for people who get everything out of their phone. Breathing fresh air, going on
a trip, being with the people who love you most can be a life changer and can present how much life
has to offer without depending on technology. Mentally taking a break from cellular technology and
social media included can bring down levels of stress and can help an individual connect with who
they are as well others. Ultimately, everyone should take a break from their phones and screens to
really see beyond the painted picture. It s importance truly shows how generations change with times
continuance.
Given these points, cellular devices have also contributed to some of the easiest accessible information
and communication ever possible. Cell phones have enriched international communication and access
to information revolutionizing the way humans are able to interact. Cell phones allow conversations to
be taken through text and over the phone providing easier access to communication without the need
to be face to face. Information can also be accessed efficiently without

Mergers and Acquisitions
Mergers and Acquisitions In modern business environments, there are increasing dynamics
encouraging firms to utilize mergers and acquisitions to resolve resource. In dynamic business
environments, the value of existing resources is subject to erosion, in some instances fast erosion.
Consequently, firms continuously respond to changing environmental conditions by upgrading their
resources and capabilities via renewal, acquisition, redeployment, and recombination. Mergers and
acquisitions provide firms with a practical tool to close their resource gaps, allowing for a much faster
reconfiguration of the product mix toward high profit products than, for example, internal
development (Eschen and Bresser, 2005). The need for corporate firms to achieve competitive
advantage in a highly competitive global environment has necessitated the implementation of
innovative strategies, one of them being mergers and acquisitions (Rizvi, 2010). Mergers and
acquisitions have become an increasingly popular strategy for achieving corporate growth and
diversification, with the M A activity in the 1990 s smashing all existing records, both in terms of the
number of transactions and the size of the deals. The worldwide value of M A increased from $462
billion in 1990 to over $3.5 trillion in 2000. Even though this unparalleled wave of M A drop in the
early 2000 s as the global economy cooled off and slid into recession, the M A volume worldwide
remains at a much higher level than existed in

Influence Of Patronage On Jackson Pollock
The Influence of Patronage on Jackson Pollock Art History Scott Mathew Jan. 21st, 2018 Introduction
Jackson Pollock, a famous artist representing the summit era of abstractionism, witnessed that
America took place of Paris in art world. However, his artworks were utilized as an American political
weapon during the Cold War to justify the impression on Western polities. This essay focuses on the
influence some personal or governmental patronage on Pollock s art. Some conspiracy theories even
believed that it was the government that deliberately promoted the mainstream of abstractionism.

The thing worthy noticing was that in the year Pollock started his drip paintings, even though people
liked them, but no one really considered them, let along buying them. Surprisingly, just in next year,
forty his paintings were purchased, of course, in very high prices, and fifty two were bought in the
year after that year. Therefore, some attribute this phenomena to the governmental propaganda. With
this, America not only attacked arts and polities in the USSR, but also gained the reputations in art
world that there would be the new art movement leading by the US. As a result, Pollock earned a lot
of money and prestige, and pressure too. For entire four years, Pollock had drip painted again and
again. At last, he realized that he could not create anything new. Because he did not have great
sketching skills, he could not draw something else. The only thing he could do was drip paintings. He
had tried some new inventions, but, like paintings he draw before, no one was willing to spend any for
those. After the four year, he stopped painting and hated it. The aura shackled him to be a drip
paintings ist, and he did not have the ability to struggle it off. As a man full of emotional strength,
absolutely he could not stand such position. And, to the end, he

Masculinity In The Film The Mask You Live In
Usually when I think about a mask, I think about scary halloweens and fake goblins, but people have
been wearing invisible mask for their whole lives without knowing. There is nothing fake about the
invisible mask that men have to wear, but it is indeed scary. In the film, The Mask You Live In,
directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, explores how our culture s narrow definition of masculinity is
harming our boys and men. The film educates the viewers about the emotional expression, suicide
rates, and sexuality of men. MAN UP! Men don t cry are words that sound all too familiar to me; I

service , only and half filled water bottle , and my camping luggage which wasn t very useful , other
than and forest there was an old rooting , tough looking , run down hotel that I thought would be
abandoned .
While waiting a few minutes in the car , I made my mind up to go to the hotel to see if any of the
doors were open in which to my surprise there was . I found the courage to open the door and go in , I
was astonished to see a old , scary, skinny boned man standing in the moonlit room behind a small
desk . To my surprise there were only two rooms left , I asked if I could get a room, he told me to sign
in ,then he gave me the key to room B13 . I was going up the creaking stairs when I heard a
mysterious noise coming from behind me , I instantly turned to see what was making the noise but
there was nothing there , as I continued up the stairs to my room , when heard that noise again as of
tree branches bristling against each other , I ignored the sound thinking, hoping for it to go away , but
it didn t stop. As I made my way through the hall to my door I saw a light coming from the room next

Examples Of Figurative Language In The Great Gatsby
In the novel, The Great Gatsby, the author, F. Scott Fitzgerald, employs different types of figurative
language to construct representations of the motifs and to help enhance them. F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote
novels and short stories during the Jazz Age in American History. He had led a tough life and gone
through two relationships prior to his wife, Zelda. Both Zelda and Fitzgerald started falling apart when
they turned to drinking and partying and eventually, she was admitted to an insane asylum. Shortly
after, he decided to write, The Great Gatsby, which was staged around his life. In this novel, Fitzgerald
parallels himself around two of the main male characters, Jay Gatsby and Nick Carraway. He tells
about his life and of his closest acquaintances ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, while Nick is at Gatsby s party, he starts to describe what he sees. Most of the things that
Nick says are examples of symbolism. In this example, Nick states, In his blue gardens men and girls
came and went like moths among the whisperings and the champagne and the stars. (Fitzgerald, 39).
Since a simile is the comparison using the words like or as , the example present is comparing the man
and the girls who enjoy Gatsby s party, much like moths enjoy the light. This is a quote describing the
people because it means they didn t show up to meet with Gatsby, but, in fact, they are only present
for the party. In the next example, Fitzgerald is developing the character, Jay Gatsby, by showing his
wealth through the narrator, Nick Carraway. Again, Nick Carraway is describing what he sees which is
Gatsby s station wagon scampered like a brisk yellow bug to meet all trains. (Fitzgerald, 39). The
example displayed above indicates how similar a station wagon is to a brisk yellow bug and how alike
they behave. To summarize, Fitzgerald incorporated similes as a type of figurative language in The
Great Gatsby to describe both the setting and the characters throughout the

Sleep Deprivation Research Paper
There are a variety of jobs around the world that run twenty four hours a day seven days a week. Some
of them can be less physically and mentally taxing that require someone to work odd hours of the
night like a gas station clerk or a waitress at an all night truck stop. To more physically and at times
mentally strenuous jobs like a first responder that works a twenty four hour shift and is on call all
night or a construction worker who has to tear up and repave a road when it s less traveled at night.
Regardless of the job, working a rotating shift or one where it requires someone to respond to calls in
the middle of the night, they all have one thing in common, the person has an increased rate of missing
out on the vital sleep they need to maintain not only their physical health, but their mental health as
well.
Sleep deprivation has many different side effects. Some of them are physical and will change how the
human body processes food, muscle recovery, and endurance. And then some of the other physical
problems that it can cause are more serious and can lead to long term problems like high blood
pressure, heart disease, increased fat storage which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

pattern or constantly being woken up while sleeping at night, causes spikes in blood pressure. While it
s more common for someone who has sleep apnea, a person who is responding to calls or emergencies
in the middle of the night during normal sleeping hours is also at a risk, In addition to these sleep
disturbances, apnea sufferers also experience brief surges in blood pressure each time they wake up.
(Quan). And for each wake up, the body starts pumping sugar and insulin into the blood stream to help
become fully aware and awake. Without treatment or uninterrupted sleep, this could lead to diabetes or

The Discontinuation of Nuclear Weaponry Creation
As Thomas Jefferson once stated, The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is
the first and only object of good government . Have political leaders thrown aside this advice in their
pursuit of nuclear arms proliferation? Since 1945, many world leaders have established forms of
defense known as nuclear weapons that have the technology and capability to completely annihilate
designated regions of the earth. Originally a plan for defense, the creation of nuclear arms has
primarily turned into a show of military strength and superiority with little regard towards the
preservation of innocent lives, as seen in Japan during World War 2. Although international legislation
has been introduced to restrict nuclear arms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Particularly, this strategy was implemented to prevent nuclear attack by these nations. Simply
speaking, deterrence nearly guaranties mutual destruction through retaliation to the nations who attack
with nuclear weapons and those who are attacked. The deterrence strategy allows for the creation of
nuclear arms in order to maintain an arsenal enough for defense of the country. Deterrence in the
United States provides safety for both the US and its allies. While this belief has a logical reason for
nuclear weapon creation, the US and other countries should work to abolish this precedent to allow for
a complete nuclear weapon free world. The idea of a nuclear weapon free world seems impossible but
there are many people who have theorized ways to bring upon this peace. These men and women say
that in order to get a reliable, nuclear free world, the creation of a sovereign or nearly sovereign
international power would be required to effectively manage and watch over worldwide security
matters. The country would need to definitely be sovereign if the proposal included an entity to arm
this international force with nuclear weapons. It can be concluded that a nuclear free world would
demand a radical alteration in global command because of the irreconcilable nature of the
independence of truly sovereign states (Post Cold war conflict). Along with this theory, experts
believe that the

roles of Fred and Ethel Mertz. After they were cast, it was discovered that both had musical and

Quantitative Research Method
. Choice of Research Method: Quantitative, Qualitative or Mixed?
Research methods are procedures for research that informs not only the techniques chosen for the data
collection, but also informs the selection of data analysis techniques in order to deal with research
questions or hypotheses. It can be distinguished as three types: quantitative, qualitative, and mixed
methods. Qualitative research is a method of investigation for exploring and in depth understanding
the behaviour and process within individuals or groups and the cause of those of behaviour and
process. Qualitative data is typically collected directly from the people in which data analysis is built
based on an impression from particulars to general themes. Hence, researcher make interpretations of
the meaning of the data with some influences from personal background, subjectivity and experiences.
In contrast, a quantitative research method is based on previously defined epistemological stance
based on empiricism knowledge creation. Thus, it investigates to test the hypothesis and theories by
examining the relationship among variables and measurement the analytical outcomes of variables. In
between qualitative and quantitative methods, mixed methods research combines qualitative and

Globalization In Katherine Boo s Novel Behind The...
The city of Mumbai has seen much growth in the past years. A string of hotels have been set up for
travelers and high class businessmen. An ever growing, top of the line airport has been built for those
coming in and out of the country. From the outside, Mumbai seems to enjoy being internationally
integrated with the rest of world, otherwise known as globalization. However, this is not the case as
seen in Katherine Boo s novel Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai
Undercity. This novel is set in a slum right next to the Mumbai International Airport called Annawadi.
It focuses mainly on the life and story of the main character, Abdul. Abdul Husain and his family
make a living by selling scrap metal tossed out by the upper class of Mumbai. When looking at Abdul
s story, one can see the corruption that made it near impossible for globalization to have a positive
effect on Annawadi. Abdul s relationship with his neighbor, one legged Fatima, also shows how

Metropolitan Museum Research Paper
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the world s largest and finest art museums. The main
Neoclassical architectural style building is located on the eastern edge of Central Park in New York
City, New York. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986. It was founded in 1870 with
a mission to collect, preserve, and display works of art. In 1866 a group of Americans gathered at a
restaurant to celebrate the Fourth of July. After dinner, John Jay, a prominent lawyer gave a speech
proposing that he and his compatriots decided to create a national institution and gallery of art. In the
next four years, they convinced American civic leaders, art collectors, and philanthropists to support
the project, and finally in 1870 the Metropolitan Museum of Art was incorporated. During the 1870s
the museum was housed in two different locations in New York City, first in a building at 681 Fifth
Avenue and later at 128 West 14th Street. In 1880 the museum moved to its present location in Central
Park on Fifth Avenue between 80th and 84th Streets. The museum moved to this land to make a
permanent home for the collections. This original Gothic Revival style brick building, designed by
Calvert Vaux and Jacob Wrey Mold, was opened to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Abnormal Role Of Flooding In New York City
A report by the New York Office of Emergency Management states that in the 1990 s the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineer found that New York City s low lying heavily populated neighborhoods are more
exposed to the threat of coastal flooding in a hurricane than was previously realized. This projection
was illuminated during Hurricanes Irene in 2011 and Sandy in 2012. The storm surge in Battery Park
along the lower east side of Manhattan during Hurricane Sandy was 9.41 feet surpassing the record set
by Hurricane Donna in 1960. New York City is close to the Atlantic Ocean. Lower Manhattan defined
by the North of 14th Street, the West by the Hudson River, the East by the East River and the South by
New York Harbor is surrounded by water and was one of the hardest hit areas during Hurricane Sandy.
The area is situated in Flood Zone A, a geographical area designated by the Federal Emergence
Management Association to be at risk for either coastal or riverine flooding. Mandatory evacuation
was ordered for this area before the hurricane made landfall because of the location and potential of
massive flooding due to the adverse effect of a storm surge. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Ancient Greek Clothing
The dress was the primary way for individuals to display their identity and perform social functions in
various communities. Ancient Greek garments are crucial to demonstrate the Greek society s values.
As the number of complete garments survived in the archeological records is limited extremely, it is
difficult for contemporary scholars to investigate their authenticity. Therefore, representations of
garments in sculpture and vase painting become the crucial evidences. The fundamental characteristics
of ancient Greek clothing are its loose and graceful drapery. Clothes that resemble corsets and trousers
are disgusted in ancient Greece, because barbarians were the only wearers at that time. Even though

Strophion While women s breasts were sexualized to an extreme in modern society, the baring breasts
only evoked pity in ancient Greece. What s more, eyes and hair have more erotic connotations. The
Greeks preferred small, firm, and round breasts, rather than the spongy ones. Strophion functioned as
the breast band. The original explanation for this undergarment was uncertain, as very few evidence of
the strophion survived, and the visual sources were difficult to identify. According to existing vase
painting and sculpture, the breasts were either presented without any covering, or revealing the
silhouette. Mortal women who wore breast band were dancers and entertainers. Embroidered patterns
and skinny straps crossing over the chest decorated the breast band as a distinguished form of costume
that aimed to be displayed blatantly at that time. In any case, breasts should be covered in a decent
way. This type of band became popular in Hellenistic art, especially in erotic pictures and images of

Socrates Was An Athens A Greek Philosopher

Philosophy
October 6,2015
Socrates was an Athens, Greece born man, who is credited as one of the main founders of Western
Philosophy. Socrates never wrote any of his thoughts and experiences down, so we just know and
analyze Socrates through the dialogues of his greatest apostle, Plato. Although, the dialogues written
by Plato are not totally focused on summarizing Socrates life, but more about his teachings and
examining of others, you never really learn how Socrates lived in an everyday life. He appeared to be
a very simple man, with not many possessions or riches to his name. Socrates never did participate in
political reform in Greece, but rather choose to converse with every day Athenians to analyze and
instruct them about virtue and examination. He based his life off the simplicity of understanding
virtues and the search for wisdom. His quest for wisdom and the instruction of others through dialogue
seem to be Socrates most important aim in life. His questioning and examining ended up getting him
in trouble, as explained through The Apology, Socrates was brought in front of a jury with charges of
not recognizing the gods recognized by the state, of inventing new deities, and of corrupting the youth
of Athens. The case ended with him being charged as guilty, and instead of accepting exile for this rest
of his life; he chose death by drinking hemlock poison. In The Apology, Socrates claims the

one of the most well known scenes in the book in which Bruce gets in trouble for eating a piece of

Mr.Wormwood, Matilda s dad, in which he pokes fun at people who read instead of watching

The Effects Of Sexual Assault On College Campuses
Look around at four of your female friends; according to Not Alone, a US Government report on
sexual assault, by the time you graduate college, one of you will become a victim of sexual assault.
For years, schools have struggled with figuring out how to handle this epidemic. Many schools just
don t focus on sexual assault; for example, according to Rolling Stone s article, Rolling Stone and
UVA: The Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism Report by Sheila Coronel, Steve Coll,
and Derek Kravitz, The University of Virginia has expelled 183 students for academic dishonesty and
0 students for sexual assault. This shows how policymakers have pushed sexual assault to the side for
decades on college campuses, despite frequent protests and requests from students for colleges to
make campuses safer. Sexual assaults on college campuses have been mishandled throughout history,
and colleges that have made policy changes have often made ineffective or misguided choices.
Colleges need to adopt a yes means yes policy for verbal consent and should model their policies after
the University of Kentucky s successful green dot program. Before discussing the sexual assault crisis
on college campuses, it is important to disprove some misconceptions. When someone reports a
sexual assault, society tends to immediately deny the assault happened, claiming false accusation, but,
according to Stanford s Men Against Abuse Now report, only two percent of allegations are false, a

First of all, I agree with the statement that, International trade shaped the economy, culture and

term International trade literally means the exchange of goods between different countries in the
world. On the other hand, the aim of the international trade is to spread the culture and absorb the new
culture and things in in order to make a better society. The Silk Road was the first step that starts to

empires are relatively stable, and the international trade became more frequent. That is not a
coincidence; the reason is that the Mongol Empire ruled the Eurasia during that period. On the other
hand, Silk Road is a rebirth of the economic trade, especially during the Mongolia empire period. As I

Our respiratory system is like a battery in our car, without it we will not be able to generate the heart

specific allergen into the site, allergy blood tests (called a RAST or radioallergosorbent test),a

These tests are used less frequently than the prick technique.
After performing allergy tests, your doctor may know what s triggering your breathing problems. Then
the doctor will be able to treat your allergy symptoms more effectively.
How Are Breathing Problems Treated?
Substances that cause breathing problem are known as triggers. Avoidance of triggers is the No. 1 way
to control allergies and asthma. As an example, wearing a dust mask when doing housework or yard
work may cut down on your exposure to allergy triggers. Avoiding a furry pet, washing bed linens at
least once a week, staying indoors during peak pollen times, and changing the filter on your air
conditioner frequently may also help prevent serious problems if you have allergies.
Medications are also important in treating breathing problems. Allergy drugs such as antihistamines
and decongestants can make it easier to breathe for some people. These medications can be delivered
orally or through inhalers.
In addition, inhaled steroids may give relief to some with chronic allergies and sinusitis. These drugs
work to reduce inflammation in the airways. Allergy shots are

Conformity has been the target of many works of literature even before Holden Caulfield from

forces in the social order that shape others to fit a certain mold, and one who does not fit the mold will
be considered an outcast by society. During the 1960 s, rebellion was a shared act among the majority,
including authors and artists; this was due to the conflict in the East as well as the Civil Rights

Accountability Based On Giddens s Structuration Theory
Research strategy This study investigates accountability based on Giddens s structuration theory
(1984) and assumes that reality is socially constructed (Berger Luckmann, 1969), bounded by time
and space, and that individuals are knowledgeable. These assumptions lead to the use of an
interpretivist approach (Denzin Lincoln, 2000; Lincoln Guba, 2000; Yanow, 2000) that assumes social
reality is multifaceted and difficult to explain using immanent rules (Giddens, 1984; Turner, 1986). As
such, sensitizing concepts (Blumer, 1969; Giddens, 1984) that match the underlying assumption of the
study will be used instead of definitive concepts. Definitive concepts provide prescriptions of what to
see, sensitizing concepts merely suggest directions along which to look (Blumer, 1969, p.148).
Giddens (1984) suggests the duality of structure, people s knowledgeability, reflexive monitoring, and
time space as sensitizing concepts. Using Giddens s conceptual apparatus to develop and test
propositions is challenging and could even be seen as perverse, in light of Giddens s express
disavowal of the positivist project of proposing universal laws of society and using a hypothesis
testing, falsification approach to assessing their validity. But Giddens s non law sensitizing concepts
and attendant conceptual apparatus and elaboration do contain a number of fairly direct propositions
(as pointed out by Turner [1986]. So it does not really seem like such a great stretch after all to

Voltaire s View Of Candide
Voltaire s Candide is a satirical work written in 1759 as a commentary during the Enlightenment. One
of Voltaire s most famous works, it also functioned to reflect Voltaire s opinions. Candide is
considered Voltaire s signature work in which he levels his sharpest criticism against nobility,
philosophy, the church, and human cruelty. Though often considered a representative text of the
Enlightenment era, the novel criticizes a number of Enlightenment philosophies. As reading and books
were a sign of wealth in that time, the trend among nobility was reading. The criticisms and ridicule
within the satirical nature of Candide had much to do with the nobility and their standards and ideas,
especially in contrast with those of the lower classes. Through the form and technique of satire in
Candide, Voltaire suggests the absurdity of societal principles and theories.
Throughout the novel, Candide s teacher and philosopher, Pangloss, persists in his paternalistic
optimism theory. He continually expresses his belief that this world is the best of all possible worlds
and that everything happens and exists for a reason. One example is after the earthquake in Lisbon,
killing 30,000 people, Pangloss comments, For, said he, all that is for the best. If there is a volcano at
Lisbon it cannot be elsewhere. It is impossible that things should be other than they are; for everything
is right (5.14). Pangloss insists that the volcano was made for the exact purpose of the earthquake

What Is The Difference Between Animal Welfare And Animal...
What I think the difference is between the two is that Animal welfare is when you have the right to
take care of an animal but you also have to take into consideration that you have to feed the animal
whether it is a dog or cat. You also have to provide shelter for the animal and make sure that the
animal stay health and your not abusing it. I believe that animal rights means that you don t have the
right to own an animal or companion because you won t provide it shelter and you it will not the be in
a heathy condition and you will not feed it the proper amount of food or it will not receive the right
type of needs. You also will not be able to provide the animal with the proper amount of items needed
for it to survive. Now here are the true definitions of animal welfare and animal rights. Animal rights
posits that humans should not use or own animals in any way, even as companions, and seeks to
ultimately make a rough agenda for reality. Animal welfare is pro animal ownership, it recognizes the
human animal bond, and recognizes the value of quality animal care and purposeful breeding and
supports advancing science to ensure the health and wellbeing of companions. Animal welfare
supports the practical and legal concept of animal ownership this is just to let you know what the
definitions of animal welfare and animal rights are. In November of 2016, there was an election and
there was a fair amount of people who misused the term animals rights and even supporters of animal
rights and some people support the human animal connection, and kindness to animals and proper care
of the animals based on the science around the animals and humans. The people who are put in charge
of making these policies know that the semantics matter. It is encouraged that the people making these
rules know the difference between animal welfare vs. animal rights. Some people think that there is no
difference between the two but there is the people who believe in animal rights have either never
owned an animal or they just think that the animals should have right amount of freedom that the
humans have. To support animal welfare you need to know the type of bond people can develop to a

Finding Friendship in the Film Finding Forrester In Finding Forrester a movie that takes place in the Bronx, there are two main characters, William Forrester and Jamal Wallace who find friendship in an unlikely way because of their passion for reading and writing. Though both are very different from each other they are drawn together by similar interests. The characters are different in many ways; Forrester is a male Caucasian in his mid seventies who graduated from Columbia University and lives by himself. Forrester has confined himself to his apartment for ten years. His only foray to the outside world is when he leans out the window to clean off the grime. • 4. Mergers and Acquisitions Mergers and Acquisitions In modern business environments, there are increasing dynamics encouraging firms to utilize mergers and acquisitions to resolve resource. In dynamic business environments, the value of existing resources is subject to erosion, in some instances fast erosion. Consequently, firms continuously respond to changing environmental conditions by upgrading their resources and capabilities via renewal, acquisition, redeployment, and recombination. Mergers and acquisitions provide firms with a practical tool to close their resource gaps, allowing for a much faster reconfiguration of the product mix toward high profit products than, for example, internal development (Eschen and Bresser, 2005). The need for corporate firms to achieve competitive advantage in a highly competitive global environment has necessitated the implementation of innovative strategies, one of them being mergers and acquisitions (Rizvi, 2010). Mergers and acquisitions have become an increasingly popular strategy for achieving corporate growth and diversification, with the M A activity in the 1990 s smashing all existing records, both in terms of the number of transactions and the size of the deals. Surprisingly, just in next year, forty his paintings were purchased, of course, in very high prices, and fifty two were bought in the year after that year. Scott Fitzgerald, employs different types of figurative language to construct representations of the motifs and to help enhance them. F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote novels and short stories during the Jazz Age in American History. He had led a tough life and gone through two relationships prior to his wife, Zelda. Both Zelda and Fitzgerald started falling apart when they turned to drinking and partying and eventually, she was admitted to an insane asylum. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, while Nick is at Gatsby s party, he starts to describe what he sees. Most of the things that Nick says are examples of symbolism. In this example, Nick states, In his blue gardens men and girls came and went like moths among the whisperings and the champagne and the stars. (Fitzgerald, 39). Since a simile is the comparison using the words like or as , the example present is comparing the man and the girls who enjoy Gatsby s party, much like moths enjoy the light. This is a quote describing the people because it means they didn t show up to meet with Gatsby, but, in fact, they are only present for the party. In the next example, Fitzgerald is developing the character, Jay Gatsby, by showing his wealth through the narrator, Nick Carraway. Again, Nick Carraway is describing what he sees which is Gatsby s station wagon scampered like a brisk yellow bug to meet all trains. (Fitzgerald, 39). The example displayed above indicates how similar a station wagon is to a brisk yellow bug and how alike they behave. Deterrence in the United States provides safety for both the US and its allies. The idea of a nuclear weapon free world seems impossible but there are many people who have theorized ways to bring upon this peace. These men and women say that in order to get a reliable, nuclear free world, the creation of a sovereign or nearly sovereign international power would be required to effectively manage and watch over worldwide security matters. The country would need to definitely be sovereign if the proposal included an entity to arm this international force with nuclear weapons. Telly is performed by Mr.Wormwood, Matilda s dad, in which he pokes fun at people who read instead of watching television. This hilarious number was executed perfectly by the actor. He had great sliding notes and made the number very fun to experience. When I Grow Up is a beautiful song that sends a heartwarming message with its sweet melody. One thing that astounded me was that the actors were singing while sitting and standing on moving swings. Not only did they have nice diction, they maintained excellent phrasing along with crescendos and decrescendos. Quiet and My House are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. The Effects Of Sexual Assault On College Campuses Look around at four of your female friends; according to Not Alone, a US Government report on sexual assault, by the time you graduate college, one of you will become a victim of sexual assault. For years, schools have struggled with figuring out how to handle this epidemic. Many schools just don t focus on sexual assault; for example, according to Rolling Stone s article, Rolling Stone and UVA: The Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism Report by Sheila Coronel, Steve Coll, and Derek Kravitz, The University of Virginia has expelled 183 students for academic dishonesty and 0 students for sexual assault. This shows how policymakers have pushed sexual assault to the side for decades on college campuses, despite frequent protests and requests from students for colleges to make campuses safer. Sexual assaults on college campuses have been mishandled throughout history, and colleges that have made policy changes have often made ineffective or misguided choices. Colleges need to adopt a yes means yes policy for verbal consent and should model their policies after the University of Kentucky s successful green dot program. Before discussing the sexual assault crisis on college campuses, it is important to disprove some misconceptions. When someone reports a sexual assault, society tends to immediately deny the assault happened, claiming false accusation, but, according to Stanford s Men Against Abuse Now report, only two percent of allegations are false, a ... To many people, there are forces in the social order that shape others to fit a certain mold, and one who does not fit the mold will be considered an outcast by society. During the 1960 s, rebellion was a shared act among the majority, including authors and artists; this was due to the conflict in the East as well as the Civil Rights movement. • 33. Accountability Based On Giddens s Structuration Theory Research strategy This study investigates accountability based on Giddens s structuration theory (1984) and assumes that reality is socially constructed (Berger Luckmann, 1969), bounded by time and space, and that individuals are knowledgeable. These assumptions lead to the use of an interpretivist approach (Denzin Lincoln, 2000; Lincoln Guba, 2000; Yanow, 2000) that assumes social reality is multifaceted and difficult to explain using immanent rules (Giddens, 1984; Turner, 1986). As such, sensitizing concepts (Blumer, 1969; Giddens, 1984) that match the underlying assumption of the study will be used instead of definitive concepts. Definitive concepts provide prescriptions of what to see, sensitizing concepts merely suggest directions along which to look (Blumer, 1969, p.148). Giddens (1984) suggests the duality of structure, people s knowledgeability, reflexive monitoring, and time space as sensitizing concepts. Using Giddens s conceptual apparatus to develop and test propositions is challenging and could even be seen as perverse, in light of Giddens s express disavowal of the positivist project of proposing universal laws of society and using a hypothesis testing, falsification approach to assessing their validity. But Giddens s non law sensitizing concepts and attendant conceptual apparatus and elaboration do contain a number of fairly direct propositions (as pointed out by Turner [1986]. • 37. Voltaire s View Of Candide Voltaire s Candide is a satirical work written in 1759 as a commentary during the Enlightenment. One of Voltaire s most famous works, it also functioned to reflect Voltaire s opinions. Candide is considered Voltaire s signature work in which he levels his sharpest criticism against nobility, philosophy, the church, and human cruelty. Though often considered a representative text of the Enlightenment era, the novel criticizes a number of Enlightenment philosophies. As reading and books were a sign of wealth in that time, the trend among nobility was reading. The criticisms and ridicule within the satirical nature of Candide had much to do with the nobility and their standards and ideas, especially in contrast with those of the lower classes. Through the form and technique of satire in Candide, Voltaire suggests the absurdity of societal principles and theories. Throughout the novel, Candide s teacher and philosopher, Pangloss, persists in his paternalistic optimism theory. He continually expresses his belief that this world is the best of all possible worlds and that everything happens and exists for a reason. One example is after the earthquake in Lisbon, killing 30,000 people, Pangloss comments, For, said he, all that is for the best. If there is a volcano at Lisbon it cannot be elsewhere. It is impossible that things should be other than they are; for everything is right (5.14). Pangloss insists that the volcano was made for the exact purpose of the earthquake ... What I think the difference is between the two is that Animal welfare is when you have the right to take care of an animal but you also have to take into consideration that you have to feed the animal whether it is a dog or cat. You also have to provide shelter for the animal and make sure that the animal stay health and your not abusing it. I believe that animal rights means that you don t have the right to own an animal or companion because you won t provide it shelter and you it will not the be in a heathy condition and you will not feed it the proper amount of food or it will not receive the right type of needs. You also will not be able to provide the animal with the proper amount of items needed for it to survive. Now here are the true definitions of animal welfare and animal rights. Animal rights posits that humans should not use or own animals in any way, even as companions, and seeks to ultimately make a rough agenda for reality. Animal welfare is pro animal ownership, it recognizes the human animal bond, and recognizes the value of quality animal care and purposeful breeding and supports advancing science to ensure the health and wellbeing of companions. Animal welfare supports the practical and legal concept of animal ownership this is just to let you know what the definitions of animal welfare and animal rights are. In November of 2016, there was an election and there was a fair amount of people who misused the term animals rights and even supporters of animal rights and some people support the human animal connection, and kindness to animals and proper care of the animals based on the science around the animals and humans. The people who are put in charge of making these policies know that the semantics matter. It is encouraged that the people making these rules know the difference between animal welfare vs. animal rights. Some people think that there is no difference between the two but there is the people who believe in animal rights have either never owned an animal or they just think that the animals should have right amount of freedom that the humans have.
