alienation, oppression and violence as presented in the Marxian analysis of capitalism and class
struggles. In examining these concepts I argue that the hierarchy of difference created by the binary
model of inferior and superior class positions naturalises this human suffering. In many ways,
human suffering is the negation of the other in order to determine oneself. In order to explore the

distinctive. There were certain characteristics that the ideal Victorian man or woman were
expected to have which emphasized patriarchal superiority. The patriarchal system meant that

period would focus on achieving job related success which, in turn, would show that he is an
eligible suitor to get married. It was seen as important for the man to have a family to support and
protect, which also gave him the opportunity to exercise authority within his household. While the

After researching assisted suicide I have more questions than when I started. The definition of
assisted suicide is very factual: suicide facilitated by another person, especially a physician, who
organized the logistics of the suicide, as by providing the necessary quantities of a poison (The

option one has to make depending on their moral standards, will to live, and how they want to die

In late April, after the beginning of hostilities at Fort Sumter, Lincoln ordered a naval blockade of
the states that has succeeded so far. Knowing that the South could not match the Union s navy, the
Secretary of the Confederacy s navy Stephen Mallory, at the time being and advocate for more
armor on ships, decided that instead of trying to match the production power of the north, they
would build ships that were superior to the North s individually. Mallory hired a group of men to
