Twain Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Twain" can be a formidable task, as it requires a
comprehensive understanding of the works, life, and literary contributions of Mark Twain.
Twain, a prominent American author and humorist, penned numerous iconic works, such as "The
Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn," both of which delve into
the complexities of American society. To successfully capture the essence of Twain's writing, one
must navigate through the layers of his satirical commentary on societal norms, racial issues, and
the human condition.
The challenge lies not only in deciphering Twain's nuanced language and wit but also in
interpreting the historical and cultural context in which he wrote. Mark Twain's works are often
layered with subtle critiques, humor, and profound insights, demanding a keen analytical eye to
unravel the underlying themes.
Moreover, constructing an essay on Twain necessitates extensive research to provide a well-
rounded view of his life, influences, and the impact of his writings. One must delve into the
socio-political landscape of the time, exploring how Twain's experiences shaped his narratives
and influenced his perspectives.
In addition, the task involves the delicate balance of personal interpretation and scholarly
analysis. Capturing the essence of Twain's unique narrative style, humor, and social commentary
while presenting a coherent and compelling argument requires a meticulous approach to writing.
The challenge is not only to summarize Twain's works but to delve into the nuances,
contradictions, and complexities embedded within them.
In conclusion, tackling a Twain essay demands a blend of literary insight, historical
understanding, and analytical prowess. It is a challenging endeavor that requires a deep dive into
the world of one of America's literary giants. However, with dedication, research, and careful
crafting, one can illuminate the brilliance of Twain's works in a compelling essay.

Descriptive Essay About Italy
It was a beautiful day in Rome, Italy. The sky was a clear, baby blue and the
weather was warm, just hot enough to need a fan in the August day. People were
walking on the streets, hand gestures everywhere as if they are so passionate about
what they are talking about. I hear Ciao Bella and buongiorno from the friendly
Italians I come across. I know what they are saying and find myself laughing, the
mere sound of the language amuses me. Walking down the street, I took note of the
siesta time, also known as riposo time in Italy. The stores and restaurants close down
from noon until about 3:00 pm, giving people the time to go home and rest or take
care of other things. From my room in my hotel, I noticed the acoustics in the city are

Our next stop was Colosseum, where our driver Enriqo dropped us off. As we
walked up the faded, brown steps, the smell of dirt hit me. People walked back and
forth wondering if they get a better view, the dismantled artifacts below will
somehow change. The grass below was musty brown, with a hint of faded green as
if it was trying to stay alive. Outside near the Colosseum, Enriqo tells us that the
Arch of Constantine stands as a historic reminder of Emperor Constantine s defeat
over Tyrant Maxentius. Back at the hotel, we had dinner on the roof overlooking a
view of the ancient Vatican. The bartender soon realized that my mom and me
were Filipino and delivered cocktails free of charge. I had my first alcoholic drink
with my mom on the rooftop of my hotel, overlooking the Vatican. By this time the
sun was setting, and the sky was a dark, ocean blue, fading into a sea of apricot
orange.
The next morning, my mom asked if there was anything I wanted to do. I had
spent half the night thinking about how to answer that question when a memory
popped into my mind. Volterra, Italy. A place I dreamed of going ever since I saw
Twilight, New Moon. As we sat in the back seat of our limousine, I watched as the
wilted sunflowers passed us by. We drove for three and a half hours on the worn,
pebbled roads. Finally, we arrived. The first thing I noticed while walking around the
beautiful town was the Teatro Romano, the
Economic Impact of Immigration Essay
Have you ever really considered just how important all of the factors involved in
bringing a salad to the table at your favorite restaurant? If you have not, it is
important that you read this paper to understand the impact that immigrated persons
have on the population, jobs, wages, services, and ultimately the economy of
California. Not to mention the intricate tie the economy has to one of California s
biggest commerces; agriculture. The intention of this paper is to discuss and
investigate the impact of immigrated persons on the economy of California and a
look at both sides of of the argument about what could happen without a constant
level maintained of immigrated persons to keep the California economy moving.

And thirdly the article goes on to state: that due to the first two factors there is an
aggregate reduction of potential consumer spending by $243 billion/year. The
reduction in consumer spending reduces demand for production, and the demand for
workers to provide that production. The result of this reduced demand for labor is a
further reduction in wages. In essence the opposition believes that immigration
affects the wages of natural born citizens, or dilutes the earning capabilities.
Another report however, prepared by the Academy of Science (2004) does not
support the idea that immigration affects the wages of native workers adversely. The
study only outlines a weak relationship between immigrant wages and native wages.
The most significant impact to wages appears to be from wave to wave of
immigrants, the earlier waves seem to endure impact from more recent waves. The
report done then by the Academy of Science also indicates that evidence points to the
conclusion that there is only a small if any adverse impact of immigration on the
wage and employment opportunities of competing native groups.
According to Longley (2005) Due to California s need and use of immigrant workers
there is a huge cost associated to the support of immigrants which includes
incarceration and healthcare. According to a
Reducing Credit Card Debt
For those who have massive credit card debts under their belts and would like to see
that amount dwindle away to nothing, there are quite a number of ways to reduce
credit card debts. Well there are two most important things of course such as you
having both the commitment and willingness to see that the problem gets solved.
This also helps reducing credit carddebtso much easier in the process.
A lot of people have been buried by mountains of debts and are looking for quick
ways to reduce it and be done with financial problems forever. Especially since the
amount you pay every month doesn t seem to make any difference whatsoever in the
total amount that is due. No thanks to surcharges and late fees.
Now the first thing to know in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This works to reduce your credit card debts in short lengths of time. You can go on
and use the equity from refinancing your home to pay off the credit card debt.
* Make sure though, that before refinancing your home, everything to be done and
the processes that you have to take is understood and that you will not under any
circumstances; use your credit card to pay off the financing on your house. Seriously,
that would be going around in circles, debt wise.
As is true with any other techniques or ideas to reducing credit card debt, you will
encounter negative and positive feedback and factors when it comes down to
paying more and that includes things like home refinancing. And if all else fails,
you can always go out and apply for a personal loan to get all your debts paid
instead of getting another credit card that offers a lower rate; And then using that
new credit line to pay off the previous debt on the first credit card. What was that I
said about going in circles?
Nevertheless, reducing credit debt takes more research and thinking than you would
care to admit. You have to take extra care in considering every situation so as to
make the best choice. If you would want, a credit counselor would be happy to help
you out and offer sound
The Goal Report
The book The Goal, written by Eliyahu M. Goldratt, is about the manufacturing
process and how it works together to achieve the goals of a firm. The Goal is about
science and education. It is an attempt to show that we can postulate a very small
number of assumptions and utilize them to explain a very large spectrum of industrial
phenomena. The Goal is about new global principles of manufacturing and people
thinking logically and consistently about their problems and therefore able to
determine cause and effect relationships between their actions and the results. In the
process some of the characters in the book, Alex Rogo who is the plant manager,

Operating expenses includes production costs, such as direct labor, indirect labor,
inventory carrying costs, equipment depreciation, materials and supplies used in
production, and administrative cost. This was not happening at Alex s plant. His
inventories had increased over the past six or seven months and operational
expense also increased. This meant he had a lot of work to do to keep his plant
open and he was now aware of it. It takes a day out with the Boy Scots for Alex to
discover one of his biggest problems at the plant bottlenecks. A bottleneck is any
resource whose capacity is less than the demand placed upon it and thus limiting the
throughput. A nonbottleneck is a resource whose capacity is greater than the
demand paced upon it and thus will contain idle time. A capacity constrained
resource (CCR) is one whose utilization is close to capacity and could be a
bottleneck if not scheduled carefully. Every production system needs some control
point or points to control the flow of product through the system. If the system
contains a bottleneck then the bottleneck is the best place for control. The control
point is called the drum because it will strike the beat that the rest of the system uses
to function. If there is no bottleneck, then the next best place to set the drum would
be a capacity constrained resource. If neither a bottleneck nor a capacity constrained
resource is present, the control point can be

Bat s I see bat s everywhere. You may have heard of this phrase before its joker s
infamous phrase. I ve known joker for a very long time, so I know a lot about joker.
Next time you hear a psychotic laugh it could be joker. I will be talking about joker
s creation, personal life, and his enemies. First let s talk about how joker was
created. Joker quits his job as a lab assistant, and works as a bad comedian to
support his pregnant wife, when his wife passes away he agrees to help mobsters
as the red hood, joker was not always joker he used to be another villainous
criminal as the red hood who had a gang of mobsters, then batman suddenly shows
up, and joker was punched in the face and fell into a pool of acid waste, which
bleaches his skin white, and colors his hair green, and also his lips bright red. So
now he has not only had an accident but why he is also insane. When joker fell into
the pool of acid, and fell out of the sewers he looked at his reflection, and goes
insane of his disfigurement. Also he was diagnosed with an illness called
psychopathy which is a mental illness of joker s disfigurement, and that is why he is

Pros And Cons Of Stricter Gun Control
American society is plagued by gun violence. This year alone, there have been 307
mass shooting in America(cite). With all the mass shooting tragedies that occur
across the United States from Sandy Hook to Las Vegas to Texas and all the
innocent lives that were lost it is brutally clear that stricter gun laws are necessary
to save lives. Stricter gun control laws should be enforced in two ways; by more
thorough background checks and by making the sale of gun conversion kits
illegal. In America it is much too easy to get a weapon without background checks.
Currently, anybody can buy a weapon at a private gun show without a background
check. Gun control advocates have long identified this loophole. Also, private
individuals can sell their guns to anyone. For example, in the case of the Texas
church massacre at First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, Nov 5 a gun man
open fire and killed. 26 people the killer should not have had access to guns
because of his record of domestic abuse and mental health issues. These issues
were later discovered on his record from the military but the military had not sent
the record to the FBI database after he was found guilty of domestic assault a few
years earlier. A similar example happened in Orange county in 2011 where eight
people were killed. Months before the killing the wife of the shooter had filed court
documents claiming her ex husband was abusive and unstable. Neither the Texas
Church shooter or the shooter at the hair salon
A Worn Path Analysis
A Worn Path by Eudora Welty, published in the Atlantic Monthly during February
1941, portrays an elderly, southern, African American woman s endurance through a
lengthy journey from her home to Natchez, Mississippi to obtain medicine for her ill
grandson, who has lye poisoning. Throughout the journey, the protagonist, Phoenix
Jackson, confronts several conflicts testing her. The tale describes the encounters of
Phoenix Jackson during her travels using literary devices such as symbolism,
conflict, and allusion to detail Jackson s experiences as she overcomes the physical,
psychological, and social obstacles she faces that ultimately emphasize her character.
The story revolves around the main character, Phoenix Jackson, who was tested by ...

Since her grandson was stripped of his voice, without any way to speak, the lye
poisoning represents the suppression of the African Americans voices at the time. Or,
perhaps, the lye poisoning represents the laws that were placed on the African
American population taking away their basic human rights. The lye poisoning could
also represent the lies told to the African American citizens that eventually burned
them.
In addition to symbolism about her character, the conflicts present in the story allude
a character of extreme determination and perseverance. Among these conflicts are
those of man, Phoenix Jackson, against nature, man, and herself. In regards to man
versus nature, Phoenix quite plainly faces a variety of troubles along her path to the
clinic, including a black dog with a lolling tongue [that] came at her (Welty) causing
her to collapse into a ditch which is a symbolic burial in the dead weeds (Daly).
Secondly, man versus man entails her confrontations with the hunter and the nurse at
the clinic. The hunter helps Jackson out of the ditch, back onto her feet, but then he
... lifted his gun and pointed it at Phoenix, (Welty) yet she was unphased by the
action. Albeit the hunter was disrespectful towards Jackson, the nurse she encounters
upon reaching Natchez is charitable: offering a few pennies out of [her] purse,
(Welty) but ultimately granting her a nickel. Finally, Phoenix faces an internal
struggle with the questioning of her purpose

Jamestown and Plymouth Essay
The English had two main colonies in the new world, Jamestown and Plymouth.
The first colony was Jamestown, established in Virginia in 1607. Jamestown was
settled by Captain John Smith, and was named after King James I. Tobacco was the
main export of Jamestown, and became the basis of the Jamestown economy,
sending more than 50,000 lbs of the plan back to Europe by 1618 (textbook 46).
Jamestown had a very rocky start, many colonists dying in the first few years of the
settlement, and the settlers had many problems with natives. Shortly after the arrival
of English colonists the Natives attacked them, and were finally forced back by a
canon from the English. A very uneasy truce was finally settled between the natives,
called the Powhatans,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Salem Witch trials, of Salem Massachusetts are known for their hypocrisy and
unfair rulings. The trials were the main conflict in the Plymouth colony, causing a
scare between the colonists, making them fear each other. Plymouth was set in
stone in their ways, and if there was any one doing something different they were
persecuted because they didn t belong. The citizens concerned themselves more
with others than with the individual growth of themselves. The Jamestown Colony
was founded for economic wealth, in comparison to the Plymouth colony, which
was settled for religious freedom. Jamestown seemed to work as a single entity,
expanding their tobacco trade and growing the economy. The self interested
colonists of Jamestown wanted land and money, which they were promised if they
worked hard in the tobacco industry. Many people who came from England were
indentured servants, promised food and sheltered during their seven years of work
and a plot of 50 acres after their service. By working for the better of themselves it
strengthened the work ethic of the Jamestown colonists. On the flip side, the Puritans
were greedy, but did not wish to work, which we can see in the story The Crucible
written by Arthur Miller. The Puritans killed off their neighbors by accusing them of
witchcraft, and once executed their
Reasons Behind the Fall of Rome, Mohenjo Daro and the...
Everything has it s falling point, you do, Rome did, Mohenjo Daro did, as did the
fictional society of Unwind, everything falls at some point. The falling of societies
is common, every society ever has fallen and has yet to fall. Societies fall due to
corrupt government, overuse of resources and citizen revolts. Rome, Mohenjo
Daro and Unwind fell due to those reasons. Societies can fall for a number of
reasons, such as corrupt leaders or a corrupt government in general. Of all things
corrupt government in general is pretty common, just think of Rome, or the fake
society of Unwind. In the book Unwind the government was corrupt for a number of
reasons, such as the unwinding of children (unwinding is pretty much taking a
teenager s guts out, if their parents deem them unworthy to live life, their body parts
go to people who need it). However between the ages of thirteen and eighteen a
parent may retroactively abort a child... on the condition that the child s life doesn t
technically end. A war known as the Heartland War was fought and forced them to do
this unwinding . Because of this unwinding it led to revolts and in the end the society
fell. The government of ancient Romewas completely corrupt once the dictatorship
came to power. Because of Julius Caesarthis happened, he was a good leader but he
led a long line of terrible dictators. The frightened Senate named Caesar dictatorfor
life. Eventually Caesar was killed but there were plenty dictators that
Comparing The Hound Of The Baskervilles By Arthur
Conan Doyle
The differences are obvious as Arthur Conan Doyle states. (Doyle, 51) As all
stories that have been both stories and books, there will he obviously some
similarities and some differences between the two versions. The Hound of the
Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle and the more recent movie in the 2012 TV
series Sherlock , are two great examples to compare and contrast story lines. It is
these two pieces that I will be writing about. Returning to Doyle s quote, it is
obvious while looking for differences. It s what makes each version stand out.
Now, the differences may alter the story slightly, but the similarities bring back the
most important details back to the same main idea. As for my opinion on my
personal preference, I will be writing about that as well. The differences are what
makes it unique from the other version, while the similarities bring it back to the
same story. Similarities, differences and my personal opinion will be what this
essay is about. To keep the same plot of the two versions of a story there must be
some similarities to keep it on the same track. The similarities are the main ideas
that are found in both versions of the stories. Mr. Holmes, they were the footsteps of
a gigantic hound! (Doyle, 30). This quote is found in both the movie and the book. It
was this quote that started the case, as Holmes did not believe the mystery was real.
This quote was going in both versions and it was that quote that started the

Written in Country Churchyard. Both of the writers have feelings of depression. The
writers bring up subtle comparisons between the poem and themselves. The arising
themes remain constant through spirituality. In both of the stories, there is an
identified preposition of melancholy, potential, and spirituality.
To start off with the poem Here Follows Some Verses upon the Burning of Our
House, Anne Bradstreet sets up the tone of sadness and says that she was awakened
by a noise, a voice screaming fire and how heartbreaking it was to lose her home
and possessions (Elegy 178). Bradstreet describes how her home looks after the
incident. Her and her family have to start all over again. Bradstreet feels like
everything has been taken away from her and will not be able to move on in line.
She is having feelings of melancholy. Consequently, Bradstreet has an epiphany and
says, Adieu, adieu, all s vanity (Elegy 179). This means that she is saying all her
possessions are worthless. This is a turning point in Bradstreet s life that she was
gifted with. She now sees how her ambition, potential, and hope can change her future
life. She had been taking
Significance Of Listening Skills
2.1. 2 Significance of listening skills It is safe to say that those who can
communicate excellently in English tend to possess good listening skills. Therefore,
it is no doubt that the importance of listening skills is undeniable in foreign

listening skills has been considered as frequently used skills during classroom and in

Swingers Film Analysis
Swingers is a 1996 low budget romantic comedy drama which ignited the careers of
director Doug Liman, and actors Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau. Set in mid 1990s
Los Angeles and Las Vegas, the cities become as much as a lead role as the actors.
Revolving around a young comedian/actor named Michael (Mike) played by Jon
Favreau, the plot follows the difficulties Mike has been dealing with regarding the
romantic and career consequences of leaving New York to becoming a success in
Los Angeles. During the course of the film, we find Mike confiding in his back
east friend Rob, played by Ron Livingston, regarding the pain of leaving his
girlfriend in New York, trying to learn how to venture back in the game of meeting
women from his friend and film s antagonist, Trent, played by Vince Vaughn, and
the attempting to manage his chaotic new life with the in Los Angeles and the

Analysis of Salman Rushdie s Midnight s Children and...
Transitions of place, time, and character are key to the storytelling in Salman
Rushdie s Midnight s Children and Virginia Woolfe s Mrs. Dalloway . Rushdie
explores the History, Nationalism and Hybridism of the nation of India after they
became independent of Great Britain. Woolfe comments heavily on English
society more through her description of her characters, and the weaving of time
and place is an effective way to telling the stories of her characters as we follow
them through a single day. This essay will compare in three passages from
Midnight s Children the effectiveness of transitioning from place and time to the
way Woolfe did so in Mrs. Dalloway . Furthermore, it will explore why each passage

This parallels the narrative structure of the novel as being circular, discontinuous and
digressive. The same can easily be said for Mrs Dalloway as the novel almost
jarringly weaves through many points of view. This fragmentation appropriates the
concept of history in Midnight s Children , which was developed by colonizers.
History works for a particular class of ideology, and therefore it will be contaminated,
oblique and subjective. In Mrs. Dalloway the characters themselves are subjective
commentaries on English society, and they have been subjectively contaminated by
Woolfe s opinions of who they represent.
The functionality of history is grounded in the simple assumption that life is
shaped like a story. Whereas Woolfe admittedly wrote in an experimental style that
was more of a slice of life than a traditionally shaped story with a beginning, middle,
and end. For Saleem, who is buffeted by too much history , it is his memory which
creates his own history. The same is true of everyone in Mrs. Dalloway . Memory,
as well as fruit, is being saved from the corruption of the clocks . This quote could
have easily been in Mrs. Dalloway, particularly when Clarissa reacted to the suicide
of Septimus and seemed to fear the aging brought on by ticking clocks. Yet, for
Rushdie, it is not based on the universal empty time that has been conceptualized by
the colonizers. Notions of time and space are integrated into both novels.

Romans Threats To Jewish People Essay
The reasons why the Romans were able to take over Jewish people was their
power, execution, and threats. The Romans were very brutal people which lead to
the suffering of the Jewish people. Army forces for the Romans were good for
them because they had powerful men and more technology equipment. The Jewish
people survived these threats by listening to the Romans and doing whatever they
wished for. Their power and force to make the Jewish people do what the Romans
wanted was the cause of the Jewish diaspora. The Romans were a powerful group
because of their armies which meant the Jewish people could not revolt against them
because the Roman army could try to kill them. After a while the Jewish people
decided to revolt, the first revolt was when the Jewswere trying to fight against the
Romans and ended up losing their second temple. The second temple stood for about
420 years until the Romans burned it down. The Roman people had invaded the Jew

The execution was a big thing for the Roman people because they enjoyed
watching how the pain was affected on the other people. Some Romans did brutal
punishments if they wouldn t die faster, what they would do would be cracking
their hands and knees. If the Jews were not put to this punishment they were also
crucified and the Romans would also break their knees if they wouldn t die faster.
Unfortunately, the Jews that were put to the test we either killed by hunger,
punishments, or even suffocation while being crucified. Not all Jews were kept to
be punished, some were kept to become slaves for the Romans! If the Romans did
not like what they did they would threaten them by kicking them out. Eventually, that

consists of events that aren t out of the ordinary in a young freshman life, also it is
solely composed of armature poetry, almost as if it is diary entries. The main
character is Sophie who lives in Cambridge,Massachusetts. She is just entering high
school and going through all the typical stages such as becoming distant from her
mother and boys are always on her mind.As each poem is written it is enviable to
see the maturity that has taken over her.The story really connects with its audience
in the sense that when they were in their freshman year it was okay to be awkward
and fall in lovewith every guy you laid eyes on.It is simply a part of growing up,but
luckily she also shows that after she came
Application Of Android Phones For Apps
Applications make Android phones to be more useful than ever. With apps you can
easily perform difficult task that you cannot ordinarily finish on time using desktop.
Not that desktop has lost its value since the development of android apps. The point
is that apps have really simplify the way people do things on their phone and that
could explain the reason why there are millions of applications in the GooglePlay
Store.
If you check carefully you will find out that there are billions of installs of these
apps which basically show they are serving the purpose of their creation and that s
why there is huge demand for them. It s obvious that one cannot enjoy Android so
much if there are no apps to add much functionality to it. Anyway if you are a fan
of Android apps then the below are some of the best ones you can install to help you
perform difficult tasks. You can find these apps on Google Play Store

Homemade Bath Bombs Research Paper
For my science fair project, I will be making homemade bath bombs, and I will see
how changing the amount of cornstarch that I use will affect their fizziness. A bath
bomb is made up of several ingredients, mixed together and put in a mold. When a
bath bomb touches the water, it becomes fizzy and separates. Bath bombs can have
different fragrances, or include bath salts, and can be quite relaxing. The fizzing that
occurs when a bath bomb comes in contact with water is the result of a chemical
reaction. This chemical reaction takes place between the ingredients within the bath
bomb, and the water. The cornstarch in the bath bombs is one of the main reactants
that causes the fizzing. The invention of the bath bomb took place in 1989, by Mo
Constantine, one of the co founders of the Lush Company. An article posted on the
Lush website states, Pioneering new products is part of what we do over time, bath
bombs have become synonymous with Lush, and a symbol of what we mean by
innovation. A bath bomb isn t just a way to treat your skin to beautiful butters and
essential oils; it creates a unique bathingexperience filled with wonderful uplifting
fragrance and vibrant color. The company takes great pride in their bath bombs, and
acquires inspiration from aromatherapy and how essential oils can affect not only

Some of these factors are room temperature, humidity, and oil viscosity (which
basically means the thickness of the oil). For my experiment, I will be using items
that are fairly common and easy to find. The dry ingredients are baking soda, citric
acid, cornstarch, and salts (preferably Dead Sea salts, but mineral salts work just as
well and aren t as expensive). The wet ingredients are essential or fragrance oils, oil
(any light vegetable oil will work), water, and food
The Tragedy Of Child Abduction
There is nothing like the injustice of child abduction, murder, and molestation. As
John Walsh says it:
The abduction of a child is a tragedy. No one can fully understand or appreciate what
a parent goes through at such a time, unless they have faced a similar tragedy. Every
parent responds differently. Each parent copes with this nightmare in the best way he

But this was not evidence, they needed to further investigate. Before the confessions,
after the murder, evidence tying him with the case was found in his garbage

Kathryn Flicker, proved Jesse Timmendequas guilty beyond reasonable doubt, by
bringing up the teeth marks on his hand, which were identified by forensics,
ultimately linking him to the crime. Megan literally left her mark, a mark that
would literally link her to Jesse Timmendequas, Flicker told the jury (Goldman, John

Before Megan Kanka s case, information about local predators was not available to
the public. Law enforcers say that Megan would still be alive if laws were in action
to warn the family about predators like Timmendequas (Assemblyman, Paul
Kramer). It s the guilt of the parent you know that you are able to protect them and
keep them safe and you just have no control over that, it s a real rude awakening.

Nursing Theory In Nursing
Individualized Attention The application of nursing theories to the nursing care
practice promotes the structure of care. It intensifies the importance of an individual
in need and facilitates the environment of healing. By integrating the major nursing
theories into the daily nursing routine in the hospitals or the community, and
understanding their meaning, nursing profession flourishes as a unique science
separate from the discipline of law. One of the theories looked at is
humanbecoming by Rosemarie Rizzo Parse. As Smith Parker, (2015) explains,
humanbecoming nurses involvement in the care of the patient is influenced by the
utmost importance that arise from the point of view of their patient at that
particular time. The nurse then and recognizes the wishes, benefits and desires of
the patient and prioritizes her care in such a way. The Portray of Humanbecoming
According to Rosemarie Rizzo Parse the goal or the definition of humanbecoming,
is to learn and appreciate the significance of living encounters (Smith Parker,
2015). The nurse is there to learn from the individuals cared for, what is the
meaning of their experience. It is derived from a circumstance, and based
completely on their point of view. It is the patient and their family who take the
leading role. The nurse is there to guide this exclusive experience by connecting
through a dialogue or simple silence by the method called true prescience (Smith
Parker 2015). While Ben is grieving the near death
Disability In Still Alice
Independent film can be examined by 5 terms: the relation in its work process, it
means of production, the financing of its film, its conception of quality films and its
system of consumption (Bordwell, Staiger and Thompson, 1985, p.317). The second
film that will argue the representation of a minority group is the independent drama
film, Still Alice (2014) directed by Richard Glazer with his partner Wash
Westmoreland. Still Alice worked on a smaller budget in comparison to MBY
totalling up to only $5 million which was attached to small independent production
company, Killer Films which is known to work with independent films. Still Alice
offers a form of discourse to represent individuals from a minority group, in particular

The film unlike MBY offers an authentic portrayal of the disability which critics
have praised Julianne Moore roles as Alice, gaining her Academy award for best
actress that year. The narrative of the film was praised, due to accuracy of how the
symptoms were shown throughout they film, Moore s character would often
forget things and would need written props to help her remember, the simplistic
presentation of the symptoms of the disease were highly praised as they were
lifelike. According to film critic Christy Lemire (2014), that Still Alice doesn t shy
away from the terrifying disease that can take away a person memories and the
ability to communicate to others. He believes the film message matters and the film
has the ability to reach over millions of people who are suffering with Alzheimer s
or know of people who are. This argument from Lemire (2014), summaries how
independent films do not need to compromise any artistic nor realistic components to
tell a heart breaking story that doesn t shy away from the story nor the

Epic Of Gilgamesh Historical Flood
Perhaps you may be familiar with the flood story of Genesis but not the flood that
occurs in the Epic of Gilgamesh. In both stories, a very important historical flood
happens. Both share multiple differences and similarities while describing the
flood in different ways. The Flood story in Genesis is way more believable. The
world is more likely to flood if it rains forty days and forty nights than it raining for
six days and six nights.
In the Epic of Gilgamesh it tells a story about a young man named Gilgamesh. He is
the king of Uruk that appeared to be two thirds divine and one third human. Yet, he
was very vicious with an overbearing behavior. This story takes you on a journey as
you read it leading Gilgamesh to finding out his true self. The gods created a man

Hammurabi Research Paper
The civilization chosen was Ancient Mesopotamia. Mesopotamia is a civilization
that was ruled by Hammurabi from 1810 BC to 1750 BC until his death in 1750
BC. His term was 42 years for the position of king. Hammurabi was also the 6th
king of the first Babylonian Dynasty. This soon made the babylonian empire s rule
begin to unravel. What made Hammurabi famous was when he invented the first set
of laws entitled Hammurabi s Code. This set of laws includes punishments that are
very harsh and not a normal set of laws that are used now. Some laws include
consequences such as breaking someone s arm for killing another person, or just
doing the same act to the attacker that the attacker did to the victim. Another

This topic includes Who ruled Mesopotamia, How the civilization came into power,
and how long the power or reign of authority. The person who mostly ruled
Mesopotamia was Hammurabi. (Rest in introduction) Mesopotamia s power came
to be through the Babylonian s rise of power. After the fall of the Akkadian Empire,
two new empires rose to power. They were the Babylonians in the south and the
Assyrians to the North. The Babylonians were first to form an empire that would
encompass all of Mesopotamia. The city of Babylon had been a city state in
Mesopotamia for many years. After the fall of the Akkadian Empire, the city was
taken over and settled by the Amorites. The city began its rise to power in 1792
BC when King Hammurabi took the throne. He was a powerful and capable leader
who wanted to rule more than just the city of Babylon. Not long after becoming
King, Hammurabi began to conquer other city states within the area. Within a few
years, Hammurabi had conquered all of Mesopotamia including much of the
Assyrian lands to the North. Under Hammurabi s rule, the city of Babylon became
the most powerful city in the world. Located on the banks of the Euphrates River,
the city was a major trade hub bringing together new concepts and products.
Babylon also became the largest city in the world at the time with as many as

Juvenile Delinquency in the 1950s
Why did juvenile delinquency occur in the 1950s and what precautions were taken to
prevent it? (Project Summary)
This project will focus on the British criminal justice system in the 1950s regarding
juvenile behaviour. The research will explore the ways used to prevent juvenile
crime, the social and psychological motivation for crime, and the way that the
criminal justice system aimed to rehabilitate those convicted of a juvenile offence. To
explore these areas an understanding of delinquency, and its consequences is needed.
According to Wirt and Briggs delinquency involves personal suffering as well as a
loss to society. 1 This suggests that juveniles are not mindfully delinquent as their

Modern Records Centre Practicalities
On Wednesday 6th March I contacted the Modern Records Centre via e mail
regarding the documents I would like to view. I found this relatively straight
forward with the pre prepared catalogue for the making history project and the
database section on juvenile delinquents in the 1950s. I asked to see ten files that I
later discovered contained various documents. This made my task a little harder as
there was more material to read. However, in hindsight this helped to gain an
overview for the task ahead. I photographed the documents most relevant to my
research for further analysis at home, whilst considering maintaining a balance of
newspaper articles, photographs and texts. Practically this enabled me to progress
with the project without being restricted to the Modern Records Centre. I also gave
great importance to recording the origin of any information, making a note of the
reference codes for consideration later within the project.
I now feel more confident using archives and I would be comfortable pursuing future
research with the involvement of the archive.

How Slums Are Constructed And Complex Economic, Social
And...
Across the world, whether it be in a first or a third world country, there are
populations which tend to be segregated into communities and form part of the low
socioeconomic status. These groups, usually termed slums , are heavily ostracised
and are usually sought to be removed and stopped in their growth. Drawing from
different locations as examples, I will firstly discuss how slums are established and
the many complex economic, social and political issues which keep the slumalive in
this modern age. There is also the matter of highlighting the way in which we define
a slum and the people living within it and how this may affect slum growth. Lastly, I
will make an allusion to measures that try and stop the advance of slums and their
effectiveness.
The origins and development of a slum are varied and complex. As there are a
myriad of possible scenarios and variations, to avoid over complexity, there are a
few key political, economic and social factors that are a running theme within the
majority of slums. Most of these aspects transpire concurrently and are inextricably
linked. One of the main causes of a slum s creation is due to rapid urbanisation in a
city that is unable to keep up with the growing demands. The rapid influx of people
to cities could be for several reasons: moving from rural areas to find work in bigger
cities or migrating from a war torn country. Upon moving to these larger towns, they
are unable to afford housing due to lower incomes in the
The Roles of Women in France
French culture and society has evolved from many different aspects of French life.
From the mastery of French cuisine to the meaning of French art, the French have
changed and evolved in many ways to produce a specific modern culture, the
dignified culture of the French. One thing that parallels the progress and continuation
of French culture is the role of women throughout France. Compared to other nations,
the role and rights of women in France were confronted earlier and Women s
suffrage was enacted earlier. The role of women in France, because of the early
change in perception of women, enabled France to develop faster and with less
conflict than other competing nations.
Missing from the painting is Marat s murderer, Charlotte Corday. Corday was a tall,

of the moderate Girondin Party, Corday blamed Marat for the Terror consuming the

The Media s Role in Terrorism Essays
If the media were not there to report terrorist acts and to explain their political and
social significance...terrorism as such would cease to exist said John O Sullivan, an
editor of the Times of London.1 This is also the way many other people feel about
the recent increase in terrorist activity; they feel that the media is causing it. The
media is doing this by fulfilling the terrorists need for publicity.2 Terrorists need
media publicity in order to get their views spread to the public.3 Because of this
need for publicity, terrorists are committing their acts of terrorism in areas where a
lot of publicity will be gained; the United States and Western Europe are the most
recent targets. The bombings of the federal building in... Show more content on

The way in which terrorists have gained publicity is very different. Late nineteenth
century Southern lynch mobs and Central American death squads did not even use
the media to gain their publicity. They just used their victims as examples to others
who might disobey their rules.9 As times changed, terrorists began to publicize their
views in books, pamphlets, underground newspapers, etc.
This technique allowed them to reach a bigger audience. It was mostly used by
terrorist groups during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Terrorist groups often
contained a printer and a writer who together would make sure their views were
publicized; the groups did not have to rely on an outside force to publicize for
them.10 As new media technologies were invented, the terrorist groups were able to
publicize their views to a bigger audience than they had ever imagined possible.11
The only problem was that they could not rely on people in the group to publicize
for them; it would be almost impossible for a terrorist group to own a television or
radio station. The only way they could get a piece of the new technology was to
quot;create news. quot; This is what most terrorists do today; they stage an event that
will gain news coverage and then try to get their views publicized by

Risk Assessment And Management Planning
The Clinical Question: In the hospitalized adult patient, will the use of
multifactorial fall risk assessments and management planning (Morse Fall
Assessment) be more efficient in comparison to the current risk assessment
(Heinrich model II) practice to prevent falls in the months of November December
in comparison to September October. Background: Falls are a major health issue
for older adults. One third of the population aged 65 and older will fall each year,
and of those five to ten percent of falls cause serious injury. Direct injuries result
from falls and have potential long term consequences. These consequences may
result in disability, fear of falling, loss of independence, and or death. Patient safety
is always the forefront of clinical practice, with this being said, the education and
implementation of a revised guideline will decrease the prevalence of said falls.
Fall prevention is preventable through multiple avenues. Search for Evidence: In
collecting evidence for this project, the database CINAHL Plus with Full Text was
used to extract articles from scholarly journals in the field of nursing. An initial
general search was conducted using the combined terms falls and scale which
yielded a handful of articles regarding fall assessment tool. However, a second search
using the term Morse fall was conducted to broaden the scope of research, and we

What Does Psychoacoustics Affect Your Brain Perceives...
What is Psychoacoustics? Psychoacoustics can be simply described as how our brain
perceives sounds that are heard throughout our environment. Psychoacoustics can be
described by channeling three sub categories or dimensions: physical, physiological,
and perceptual (Vassilakis, 2015). The physical aspects include: actual vibrations and
soundwaves projected into the environment that reaches the earand further pathways
in the brain. The physiological dimension refers to the actual shape and design
features of the ear and the contributions that each part makes in creating and hearinga
sound. Lastly, the perceptual dimension refers to what the brain is interpreting from a
sound, aided through the physical and physiological dimensions of the overarching
psychoacoustic category. Psychoacoustics originated from psychophysics clearly
demonstrating the relationship between what happens in our physical surroundings
and what our brain perceives (Vassilakis, 2015).
Psychophysics is generally concerned with a number of aspects in relation to how
a stimulus is heard. The first is sensation limit: a range of stimuli that we are able to
perceive, ranging from high to low (Vassilakis, 2015). This can be related to the fact
that some very high pitch sounds are unable to be heard. The second part is the idea
of relative sensation thresholds or difference thresholds (Vassilakis, 2015). This is
referring to the minimum amount of change that can be done to a stimulus that is still

For Whitman, this connective trait of humanity symbolized by grass allows him to
transcend the individual, suffer with the his fellow American sufferers and
celebrate with the celebratory. The ideal role of the narrator of Song of Myself is
outlined in section 11. As the woman watches the 28 nude men from her window,
she remains physically within her own home, but mentally escapes outside of it to
engage with the group of men, as her unseen hand also pass d over their bodies, It
descended tremblingly from their temples and ribs (212 213). She feels empowered
by her invisibility to touch the men, but does so timidly, scared by the force of the
reality of her imaginings. The erotic nature of the scene is also meaningful, as sex is
often seen as a means of transcending the individual by the physical and emotional
unification of two bodies. Whitman attempts to replicate the role of the woman in his
position as narrator by imaginatively engaging in a scene, often within another body,
but not interfering with the reality of the moment.
Although the narrator is the only character in the poem who explicitly transcends his
body, Whitman makes it clear
Weaknesses Of Maintenance Administration System
where the maintenance administration systems in this industry can be progressed.
The principle weaknesses are found in the bolster given to center levels of
administration in making an interpretation of wellbeing strategy into a powerful
maintenance idea and that into arranging, systems and asset administration which
give proper thoughtfulness regarding security. Suggestions are made about
reinforcing these ranges with a solid maintenancebuilding capacity in charge of
organizing the fuse of security into outline, into the maintenance idea and arranging

which can likewise contribute emphatically to a monetary operation of the office.
Some broad suggestions are made about the administrative ramifications of these
conclusions

The reasons why maintenance is such a Cinderella capacity are generally verifiable
and can for the most part be overcome by new data innovation (IT) and its falling
expense. Advancement is currently being held up by obsolete ideas of what is

change essential maintenance and unwavering quality ideas, some of which are

Intimate Encounter Essay
Intimate Encounter
I needed a weekend away from the all too humdrum existence of day to day living. I
decided that a good diversion might be to hike the Appalachian Trail for a weekend.
After class on Friday, I ran to my car so that I could begin this wonderful divergence
from daily life. The parking lot at Carver s Gap, my destination, finally came into
view as I drove up US 19E. Across the road, a short wooden fence separated me from
my wonderful weekend of adventure. From the second I reached the parking lot, I
realized that this hike, a great way to escape from reality for a weekend, awaited me
upon the trail I saw dwindling in the distance.
Due to my college freshman regimen of a bad diet and no exercise, the first bald I ...

The dirt path led me downward into secluded valleys and over open hills. Two miles
into this delightful experience, a small Adirondack named the Stan Murray shelter,
stood as a resting point for weary hikers. The Adirondack, a three sided shack like
structure, blended into the surrounding brown of the trees and surprised me as I came
upon it. I stopped there for a short respite and then continued my hike.
The next three miles were much as the first two had been, a walk through a colorful
enclosed forest. At the three mile point, a rough, wooden, weatherworn sign stated
that the Over Mountain shelter lay close by, and seeing as dusk had rapidly set upon
me, I decided to spend the night there. Down a small hill through an arch of trees,
the Overmountain Shelter squatted in an open field. The trees abruptly ended on my
left and a large hillside presented itself to the sky. The hill, a wind tunnel during a
thunderstorm, seduced me with its lush green grass, but I did not so easily forsake
the prospected security of the shelter. The shelter, an old, weathered, abandoned
barn squatted regally in the meadow, as if ruling over the valley below it. As dusk
deepened into night, I carried my sore but happy body inside where I cooked a
wondrous meal of pasta then swiftly passed into unconscious bliss.
As I learned when I awoke during the night to the roaring wind outside, I lay in the
coziest place in the barn,

Slavery In Mario Puzo s The Fortunate Pilgrim
In Mario Puzo s book The Fortunate Pilgrim, he highlights the struggles of Italian
immigrants coming to America through one family. Using the Angeluzzi Corbo
family Puzo is able to show the struggles of living in a new country, giving up old
ways, and adapting to new customs. He shows the immigrants struggles the best by
using Lucia Santa, the mother and the rock of the Angeluzzi Corbo family. By using
Lucia, Puzo is able to make the reader see her struggle of keeping her family safe
from the harshness of the outside world. Lucia is mainly concerned that her
children do not lose the Italian ways and that she can continue to provide for her
family. While reading the book the reader can see how Lucia struggles keeping all
six of her children, specifically Larry and Octavia safe from the outside world.
Larry and Octavia are at odds with Lucia a lot throughout the book because they
are her eldest children, are the least dependent on her, and the most tempted by the
outside world. Through an array of problems Lucia Santa struggles to protect her
family from the harshness of the new world and make sure her children grow up to
be respectable adults with strong old world Italian values. Lucia s goal for her
family is to make sure that she can raise them right to survive in the harshness of
America. Her biggest struggles come through her oldest children as they will be the
first to venture out on their own, but after much strife they end up being two of her
biggest success.

Men of Honor
An entrepreneur is a person who organizes, operates, and assumes the risk for a
business venture (www.dictionary.com). Even though this is the definition of an
entrepreneur, there are also many other attributes that are missing. As an
entrepreneur you must have a wide variety of traits which can not only help you in
creating ideas but improve them as well. Risk taking and leadership are only a few
of the many characteristics you should possess. However, the one trait that is a
necessity in anything you do is passion. Without it not only will you become bored
with your work, but you will have less of a chance of becoming successful. One film

Soon after, Carl graduated diving school. He began receiving jobs on navel ships.
While away, on mission, he left his wife, Jo, and their son behind. Carl never had
many problems with diving. However on one mission, Carl had to find a bomb that
was in the ocean from an old attack. While on the ocean floor a Russian submarine
began to approach. Carl barely made it away from the submarine. Through the dust,
Carl saw what the submarine had uncovered; the bomb. Once Carl surfaced he was

Josh Sanburn s Article Making Trains Run On Time
In his article Making Trains Run on Time (Time Magazine, 10 April, 2017, pp. 32
34), Josh Sanburn tells us about the problem of congested train traffic in Chicago.
Sanburn says that costly delays have been seen elsewhere because of the problems in
Chicago, as any trains travelling from coast to coast have to go through the city. Six
of the seven biggest railroad companies use these railroads, with one thousand and
three hundred trains traveling through the city a day. Sanburn points out that the
regions commuter rail systems compete for limited track space with the nation s
largest lines. At morning and evening rush hours the commuter trains have the right
of way, thanks to a deal between the city and the railroads, while freight trains
Should Abortion Be Determined By The State Or Mother
Homework #2: History and overview of the Policy Issue
Should Abortion be determined by the State or Mother?
Abortion has been one of the most controversial topics in America. Abortion is
defined as the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed in
the first 20 weeks of the pregnancy. Abortion is when the pregnancy is ended to
prevent child birth. The pregnancy is taken out of the uterus of the women by
medical abortion which involves taking medicines to cause a miscarriage or by
surgery, where the pregnancy is out of the uterus. The policy issue at hand is whether
the decision to terminate the pregnancy be given to the mother or the State, also
known as Pro Choice or Pro life movements. ... Show more content on

The law gave all minors the opportunity to appear before a court for consent to have
an abortion without parental consent and discretion (Bellotti 1979). The 1990
Hodgson v. Minnesota case challenged the state statute that requires minors to
Contain consent or notify both biological parents before having an abortion. The law
had no exceptions for un married, divorced, or unknown parents. This law gave
minors the option of obtaining judicial consent for abortion, when they were not able
to obtain it from parents
(Hodgson 1990). Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey of 1992
challenged restriction on abortion in Pennsylvania. The court kept constitutional
protection for the right to choose, but adopted the undue burden test for evaluating
restrictive abortion laws. Under this test, the state laws can make it through the
constitutional review without putting substantial obstacles in the path of a women
seeking an abortion (Casey 1992). The 2006 Ayotte v. Planned Parenthood of
Northern New England case challenged the law that required doctors to notify a
parent at least 48 hours before performing an abortion on a minor, and that contained
no exception for abortions performed in a medical emergency. The
Supreme Court issues its opinion in the case, in which they affirmed that
Oil Is Destroying The Environment !
Oil Is Destroying the Environment! Argument Essay for the Use of Nuclear
Fusion By: Bryanna Bergevin Oil has been used for centuries as the main source
of energy in this country. It has been valued very high from that because it is very
hard to find, and there s a limit of how much people can use. What if there was a
time where this country could run out of oil? That wouldn t allow society to
function properly, because of the rate were using oil now. The amount of oil
burned also causes a huge amount of pollution in the air, possible global warming
and causes people to even have to wear face masks in high populated areas in
hopes to not breathe in the toxic smog that could damage respiratory systems and
cause many health problems. There has also been impeccable damage to the
oceans and forests, destroying the wildlife. This crisis may not affect society so
much now, but there is only so much time before it gets much worse. A quote from
David Suzuki states If we want to address global warming, along with the other
environmental problems associated with our continued rush to burn our precious
fossil fuels as quickly as possible, we must learn to use our resources more wisely,
kick our addiction, and quickly start turning to sources of energy that have fewer
negative impacts. (Suzuki, Sept 12, blog post) this quote states that people are using
valued resources of oil in the wrong way, and how it is causing problems in the
environment. Now should the environment be saved?
Atherosclerosis Research Papers
Brief Introduction (max 200 words)
Although it was believed for a long time that second hand smoke only affects
smokers, since the early 1980s it has been known that non smoking family members
of smokers have twice the risk of experiencing heart attacks than those in non
smoking households. Consequently, people living and working in environments that
contain second hand smoke suffer coronary heart diseases (CHD) due to the toxic
substances of tobacco smoke.
Key concepts (max 500 words)
Second hand smoke (SHS) consists of smoke from the burning end of a cigarette and
the smoke breathed out by smokers. SHS contains more than 7,000 chemicals and
more than 200 of these are known poisons, such as carbon monoxide, hydrogen
cyanide, and methyl isocyanate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the plaque, arteries become narrower, slowly blocking the blood flow and
causing increased risks of CHD. When the artery narrows and blood flow is
reduced, the oxygen supply is decreased. Most of the time a blood clot forms and
blocks the artery, thus stopping the blood flow. If the oxygen supply to the heart is
reduced, a heart attack can occur. If the oxygen supply to the brain is cut off, a
stroke can occur. Therefore SHS accelerates atherosclerosis in the arteries and aorta
and the toxic substances in the smoke that builds up in the arteries, results in
increased risks of getting cardiovascular diseases.
When someone smokes indoors, the smoke cannot be kept away by opening a
window or using a fan. In fact, research shows that toxins from smoke remain in a
person s hair and clothes and the surrounding environment. These toxins, are
hazardous to infants and children.
The only way to avoid the risks of smoke is to avoid places where smoking occurs.
That can be done by making sure family, friends, and visitors never smoke inside
your house or vehicle, thus helping to keep the house smoke free by. Choose to eat in
restaurants that are smoke free as non smoking sections do not provide protection

Samuel Colt and the Colt Revolver Essay
The Wild West is known for its cowboys and gunslingers. In the Wild West the
pistol was an important piece of equipment. Samuel Colt played an important part in
the Wild West because of the invention of the Colt Revolver. Samuel Colt was born
on July 19, 1814 in Hartford, Connecticut. He was one of eight children. As a young
boy Samuel Colts principle interest was guns and machinery. His father, Christopher
Colt, was a textile manufacturer and was married to Sarah Coldwell Colt
( Samuel Colt ). Samuel Colt s parents lived there in Hartford until their death.

eventually expelled from it for his behavior. After he was expelled from the Amherst

So the raft drifted away from the mine so when Colt set off the mine it blew mud
and water all over the viewers. This did not make the men happy. Three of the men
came over and Colt was about to be thrown into the river when a young man by the
name of Elisha K. Root came and stopped them. This man would later help Colt by
designing most of the different machines that would make revolvers (Peterson
209). In 1836 Samuel Colt was granted a U.S. patent for a cap and ball pistol with a
revolving cylinder that could fire five or six shots before reloading (Silva). After
finally getting the patent, Colt bought a large tract of land about two hundred
acres in Hartford Connecticut where he built a giant new factory where he started
producing many revolvers. Colt made three different models of his revolvers and
he also made carbines, rifles, and shotguns. Colt s revolvers became big. The
Connecticut River was next to Colt s land and would flood that land every spring.
So Colt hired hundreds of laborers to work on building a dyke to keep it from
flooding. The dyke was one of the biggest in America at a mile and three quarters
long. Colt s dyke was completed in 1854 (Haven). The United States was the first
nation to give its troops a revolver. Colt s revolvers were used in the Mexican war.
After the massacre at the Alamo, the Texas Rangers, with Colt revolvers in hands
charged the Mexicans shouting remember the Alamo .(Silva
Letter From Birmingham City Jail Rhetorical Analysis
Martin Luther King Jr. was an African American Baptist minister who became the
most well known civil rights activist and leader. King Jr. strongly believed in
peaceful protest, choosing to use silent rebellion in favor of violence. During a trip
to Birmingham, Alabama in 1963, for a Christian Leadership Conference, King
was jailed during a peaceful protest for the treatment of blacks. While in jail, King
wrote a letter to fellow clergymen. In his Letter from Birmingham City Jail , Martin
Luther King Jr. used several techniques to appeal to and effectively persuade the
white clergymen he was writing to regarding segregation. King clearly displays the
peacefulness of his protest, the unfairness of unjustified prejudice against blacks,
and reveals examples of brutality against blacks. The primary method King uses in
his letter is the clear demonstration of how peaceful his approach to this issue truly
is. King makes sure to include the words nonviolent and peaceful several times
throughout his letter to ensure that the readers of the letter understand that his
campaign is just that. He also mentions the four basic steps of any nonviolent
campaign, 1) collection of the facts to determine whether injustices are alive; 2)
negotiation; 3) self purification; and 4) direct action (3). King includes the steps of
his campaign in his letter to plainly reveal that it excludes any and all violence or
brutality. He also uses these steps to show that whether or not his fellow
Propaganda In The Film The Eternal Jew, Directed By
Fritz...
The Nazis described the Jews as the embodiment of evil, the opposite humans, rats,
and a threat to the Aryan race. They felt the needed to appropriate and rewrite their
history, inscribing it with a new meaning [Confino]. The inconceivable part is that
their ideals came across to a large group of people. How did they do this? Propaganda
was used extensively by the Nazis. They did everything in their power to make
sure their message was clear. Propaganda is the spreading of ideas, information, or
allegations to support or harm a cause. It is represented in a way to provoke a
desired response. [Sheridan Libraries] The Nazis, for instance, used propaganda very
effectively. You could only read, see, and hear what the Nazis wanted. In 1933,

It was mostly in charge of German media, ensuring the Nazi message was
successfully communicated through art, music, theater, films, books, radio,
educational materials, and the press. [USHMM] Individuals involved in any of
these areas had to join the Reich Chamber and they decided who could join. Films
produced by the Reich Commerce were a large influence on people. For example,
in the film, The Eternal Jew (1940), directed by Fritz Hipper, portrayed the Jews as
wandering cultural parasites and consumed by materialistic things. Also, the Nazi
message was clear in books. For example, the book Trust no Fox in the Green
Meadow and no Jew on his Oath was book with many anti Semitic illustrations
directed towards children. Another way Nazis used propaganda was in the former of
art. In 1937, an exhibition was set up to showcase art that the Nazis considered
degenerate. I chose this topic because I wanted to understand how the Nazis were
able to persuade Germany. The holocaust teaches us about how easily we can harm
others. Learning from our past and our mistakes forms a better future. Even though
the Holocaust is a complicated subject, we can all agree that taking the lives of others

Essay about Women s Rights Movement
Tuesday, November 2, 1920, the day women voted for the first time. The New
York Times called it, The greatest voting day in the city s history. It was a
wonderful day for women all across the country. All of their hard work had finally
paid off. The Women s Rights Movement changed the way women were seen. Before
the passage of the 19th Amendment, women in many states were not given the right
to vote. The Women s Rights movement was caused by many factors, greatly
impacted the society of the early 1900s and changed American society forever.
Women were traditionally seen as the weaker sex second class citizens with a lower
social status than men. A woman s place was in the home. Men did the heavier labor,

The first line of the Declaration of Sentiments and the Declaration of Independence

names on the document. As one of the youngest signers to the Declaration of
Sentiments, Charlotte Woodward became the only signer to see her dream come
alive at the ballot box. To discourage the women from taking any further actions,
newspapers across the country published and ridiculed the Declaration and its
signers. Embarrassed by the bad publicity, several women decided to withdraw their
name. However, most women were still willing to fight for their cause. The tea party
on that hot summer afternoon started an ongoing fight for women s equality.
The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by
the United States or by any State on account of sex (U.S. Constitution). These are the
words that women across the country were fighting to hear. Congress passed the 19th
Amendment on June 4th, 1919 and sent it to the states. Seventy five percent of the
states needed to ratify the Amendment for it to be official. Before her son,
Congressman Harry Burn from Tennessee, made the crucial vote on Women s
Suffrage, Mrs. J. L. Burn wrote him a letter. She told him, Hurrah! And vote for
suffrage and don t keep them in doubt... Don t forget to be a

  • 2. Descriptive Essay About Italy It was a beautiful day in Rome, Italy. The sky was a clear, baby blue and the weather was warm, just hot enough to need a fan in the August day. People were walking on the streets, hand gestures everywhere as if they are so passionate about what they are talking about. I hear Ciao Bella and buongiorno from the friendly Italians I come across. I know what they are saying and find myself laughing, the mere sound of the language amuses me. Walking down the street, I took note of the siesta time, also known as riposo time in Italy. The stores and restaurants close down from noon until about 3:00 pm, giving people the time to go home and rest or take care of other things. From my room in my hotel, I noticed the acoustics in the city are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our next stop was Colosseum, where our driver Enriqo dropped us off. As we walked up the faded, brown steps, the smell of dirt hit me. People walked back and forth wondering if they get a better view, the dismantled artifacts below will somehow change. The grass below was musty brown, with a hint of faded green as if it was trying to stay alive. Outside near the Colosseum, Enriqo tells us that the Arch of Constantine stands as a historic reminder of Emperor Constantine s defeat over Tyrant Maxentius. Back at the hotel, we had dinner on the roof overlooking a view of the ancient Vatican. The bartender soon realized that my mom and me were Filipino and delivered cocktails free of charge. I had my first alcoholic drink with my mom on the rooftop of my hotel, overlooking the Vatican. By this time the sun was setting, and the sky was a dark, ocean blue, fading into a sea of apricot orange. The next morning, my mom asked if there was anything I wanted to do. I had spent half the night thinking about how to answer that question when a memory popped into my mind. Volterra, Italy. A place I dreamed of going ever since I saw Twilight, New Moon. As we sat in the back seat of our limousine, I watched as the wilted sunflowers passed us by. We drove for three and a half hours on the worn, pebbled roads. Finally, we arrived. The first thing I noticed while walking around the beautiful town was the Teatro Romano, the
  • 3. Economic Impact of Immigration Essay Have you ever really considered just how important all of the factors involved in bringing a salad to the table at your favorite restaurant? If you have not, it is important that you read this paper to understand the impact that immigrated persons have on the population, jobs, wages, services, and ultimately the economy of California. Not to mention the intricate tie the economy has to one of California s biggest commerces; agriculture. The intention of this paper is to discuss and investigate the impact of immigrated persons on the economy of California and a look at both sides of of the argument about what could happen without a constant level maintained of immigrated persons to keep the California economy moving. Without the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And thirdly the article goes on to state: that due to the first two factors there is an aggregate reduction of potential consumer spending by $243 billion/year. The reduction in consumer spending reduces demand for production, and the demand for workers to provide that production. The result of this reduced demand for labor is a further reduction in wages. In essence the opposition believes that immigration affects the wages of natural born citizens, or dilutes the earning capabilities. Another report however, prepared by the Academy of Science (2004) does not support the idea that immigration affects the wages of native workers adversely. The study only outlines a weak relationship between immigrant wages and native wages. The most significant impact to wages appears to be from wave to wave of immigrants, the earlier waves seem to endure impact from more recent waves. The report done then by the Academy of Science also indicates that evidence points to the conclusion that there is only a small if any adverse impact of immigration on the wage and employment opportunities of competing native groups. According to Longley (2005) Due to California s need and use of immigrant workers there is a huge cost associated to the support of immigrants which includes incarceration and healthcare. According to a

Well there are two most important things of course such as you having both the commitment and willingness to see that the problem gets solved. This also helps reducing credit carddebtso much easier in the process. A lot of people have been buried by mountains of debts and are looking for quick ways to reduce it and be done with financial problems forever. You can go on and use the equity from refinancing your home to pay off the credit card debt. * Make sure though, that before refinancing your home, everything to be done and the processes that you have to take is understood and that you will not under any circumstances; use your credit card to pay off the financing on your house. Seriously, that would be going around in circles, debt wise. As is true with any other techniques or ideas to reducing credit card debt, you will encounter negative and positive feedback and factors when it comes down to paying more and that includes things like home refinancing. And if all else fails, you can always go out and apply for a personal loan to get all your debts paid instead of getting another credit card that offers a lower rate; And then using that new credit line to pay off the previous debt on the first credit card. What was that I said about going in circles? Nevertheless, reducing credit debt takes more research and thinking than you would care to admit. You have to take extra care in considering every situation so as to make the best choice. If you would want, a credit counselor would be happy to help you out and offer sound
  • 5. The Goal Report The book The Goal, written by Eliyahu M. Goldratt, is about the manufacturing process and how it works together to achieve the goals of a firm. The Goal is about science and education. It is an attempt to show that we can postulate a very small number of assumptions and utilize them to explain a very large spectrum of industrial phenomena. The Goal is about new global principles of manufacturing and people thinking logically and consistently about their problems and therefore able to determine cause and effect relationships between their actions and the results. In the process some of the characters in the book, Alex Rogo who is the plant manager, Jonah a physicist and old friend of Alex, Stacey Patazenik who manages inventory... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Operating expenses includes production costs, such as direct labor, indirect labor, inventory carrying costs, equipment depreciation, materials and supplies used in production, and administrative cost. This was not happening at Alex s plant. His inventories had increased over the past six or seven months and operational expense also increased. This meant he had a lot of work to do to keep his plant open and he was now aware of it. It takes a day out with the Boy Scots for Alex to discover one of his biggest problems at the plant bottlenecks. A bottleneck is any resource whose capacity is less than the demand placed upon it and thus limiting the throughput. A nonbottleneck is a resource whose capacity is greater than the demand paced upon it and thus will contain idle time. A capacity constrained resource (CCR) is one whose utilization is close to capacity and could be a bottleneck if not scheduled carefully. Every production system needs some control point or points to control the flow of product through the system. If the system contains a bottleneck then the bottleneck is the best place for control. The control point is called the drum because it will strike the beat that the rest of the system uses to function. If there is no bottleneck, then the next best place to set the drum would be a capacity constrained resource. If neither a bottleneck nor a capacity constrained resource is present, the control point can be

  • 7. Pros And Cons Of Stricter Gun Control American society is plagued by gun violence. This year alone, there have been 307 mass shooting in America(cite). With all the mass shooting tragedies that occur across the United States from Sandy Hook to Las Vegas to Texas and all the innocent lives that were lost it is brutally clear that stricter gun laws are necessary to save lives. Stricter gun control laws should be enforced in two ways; by more thorough background checks and by making the sale of gun conversion kits illegal. In America it is much too easy to get a weapon without background checks. Currently, anybody can buy a weapon at a private gun show without a background check. Gun control advocates have long identified this loophole. Also, private individuals can sell their guns to anyone. For example, in the case of the Texas church massacre at First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, Nov 5 a gun man open fire and killed. 26 people the killer should not have had access to guns because of his record of domestic abuse and mental health issues. These issues were later discovered on his record from the military but the military had not sent the record to the FBI database after he was found guilty of domestic assault a few years earlier. A similar example happened in Orange county in 2011 where eight people were killed. Months before the killing the wife of the shooter had filed court documents claiming her ex husband was abusive and unstable. Neither the Texas Church shooter or the shooter at the hair salon
  • 8. A Worn Path Analysis A Worn Path by Eudora Welty, published in the Atlantic Monthly during February 1941, portrays an elderly, southern, African American woman s endurance through a lengthy journey from her home to Natchez, Mississippi to obtain medicine for her ill grandson, who has lye poisoning. Throughout the journey, the protagonist, Phoenix Jackson, confronts several conflicts testing her. The tale describes the encounters of Phoenix Jackson during her travels using literary devices such as symbolism, conflict, and allusion to detail Jackson s experiences as she overcomes the physical, psychological, and social obstacles she faces that ultimately emphasize her character. Since her grandson was stripped of his voice, without any way to speak, the lye poisoning represents the suppression of the African Americans voices at the time. Or, perhaps, the lye poisoning represents the laws that were placed on the African American population taking away their basic human rights. The lye poisoning could also represent the lies told to the African American citizens that eventually burned them. In addition to symbolism about her character, the conflicts present in the story allude a character of extreme determination and perseverance. Among these conflicts are those of man, Phoenix Jackson, against nature, man, and herself. In regards to man versus nature, Phoenix quite plainly faces a variety of troubles along her path to the clinic, including a black dog with a lolling tongue [that] came at her (Welty) causing her to collapse into a ditch which is a symbolic burial in the dead weeds (Daly). Secondly, man versus man entails her confrontations with the hunter and the nurse at the clinic. The hunter helps Jackson out of the ditch, back onto her feet, but then he ... lifted his gun and pointed it at Phoenix, (Welty) yet she was unphased by the action. Albeit the hunter was disrespectful towards Jackson, the nurse she encounters upon reaching Natchez is charitable: offering a few pennies out of [her] purse, (Welty) but ultimately granting her a nickel. Finally, Phoenix faces an internal struggle with the questioning of her purpose

Tobacco was the main export of Jamestown, and became the basis of the Jamestown economy, sending more than 50,000 lbs of the plan back to Europe by 1618 (textbook 46). Jamestown had a very rocky start, many colonists dying in the first few years of the settlement, and the settlers had many problems with natives. The trials were the main conflict in the Plymouth colony, causing a scare between the colonists, making them fear each other. Plymouth was set in stone in their ways, and if there was any one doing something different they were persecuted because they didn t belong. The citizens concerned themselves more with others than with the individual growth of themselves. The Jamestown Colony was founded for economic wealth, in comparison to the Plymouth colony, which was settled for religious freedom. Jamestown seemed to work as a single entity, expanding their tobacco trade and growing the economy. The self interested colonists of Jamestown wanted land and money, which they were promised if they worked hard in the tobacco industry. Many people who came from England were indentured servants, promised food and sheltered during their seven years of work and a plot of 50 acres after their service. Everything has it s falling point, you do, Rome did, Mohenjo Daro did, as did the fictional society of Unwind, everything falls at some point. The falling of societies is common, every society ever has fallen and has yet to fall. Societies fall due to corrupt government, overuse of resources and citizen revolts. Rome, Mohenjo Daro and Unwind fell due to those reasons. Societies can fall for a number of reasons, such as corrupt leaders or a corrupt government in general. Of all things corrupt government in general is pretty common, just think of Rome, or the fake society of Unwind. In the book Unwind the government was corrupt for a number of reasons, such as the unwinding of children (unwinding is pretty much taking a teenager s guts out, if their parents deem them unworthy to live life, their body parts go to people who need it). However between the ages of thirteen and eighteen a parent may retroactively abort a child... on the condition that the child s life doesn t technically end. A war known as the Heartland War was fought and forced them to do this unwinding . Because of this unwinding it led to revolts and in the end the society fell. The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle and the more recent movie in the 2012 TV series Sherlock , are two great examples to compare and contrast story lines. It is these two pieces that I will be writing about. Returning to Doyle s quote, it is obvious while looking for differences. It s what makes each version stand out. Now, the differences may alter the story slightly, but the similarities bring back the most important details back to the same main idea. As for my opinion on my personal preference, I will be writing about that as well. The differences are what makes it unique from the other version, while the similarities bring it back to the same story. Similarities, differences and my personal opinion will be what this essay is about. To keep the same plot of the two versions of a story there must be some similarities to keep it on the same track. The similarities are the main ideas that are found in both versions of the stories. Mr. Holmes, they were the footsteps of a gigantic hound! (Doyle, 30). It can release stress because of all the emotions that could not be held in anymore. This can be clearly portrayed in Anne Bradstreet s Here Follows Some Verses upon the Burning of Our House and Thomas Gray s Elegy Written in Country Churchyard. Both of the writers have feelings of depression. The writers bring up subtle comparisons between the poem and themselves. The arising themes remain constant through spirituality. In both of the stories, there is an identified preposition of melancholy, potential, and spirituality. To start off with the poem Here Follows Some Verses upon the Burning of Our House, Anne Bradstreet sets up the tone of sadness and says that she was awakened by a noise, a voice screaming fire and how heartbreaking it was to lose her home and possessions (Elegy 178). Bradstreet describes how her home looks after the incident. Her and her family have to start all over again. Bradstreet feels like everything has been taken away from her and will not be able to move on in line. She is having feelings of melancholy. Consequently, Bradstreet has an epiphany and says, Adieu, adieu, all s vanity (Elegy 179). This means that she is saying all her possessions are worthless. This is a turning point in Bradstreet s life that she was gifted with. She now sees how her ambition, potential, and hope can change her future life. She had been taking

This fragmentation appropriates the concept of history in Midnight s Children , which was developed by colonizers. History works for a particular class of ideology, and therefore it will be contaminated, oblique and subjective. In Mrs. Dalloway the characters themselves are subjective commentaries on English society, and they have been subjectively contaminated by Woolfe s opinions of who they represent. The functionality of history is grounded in the simple assumption that life is shaped like a story. Whereas Woolfe admittedly wrote in an experimental style that was more of a slice of life than a traditionally shaped story with a beginning, middle, and end. For Saleem, who is buffeted by too much history , it is his memory which creates his own history. The same is true of everyone in Mrs. Dalloway . Memory, as well as fruit, is being saved from the corruption of the clocks . A bath bomb is made up of several ingredients, mixed together and put in a mold. When a bath bomb touches the water, it becomes fizzy and separates. Bath bombs can have different fragrances, or include bath salts, and can be quite relaxing. The fizzing that occurs when a bath bomb comes in contact with water is the result of a chemical reaction. This chemical reaction takes place between the ingredients within the bath bomb, and the water. The cornstarch in the bath bombs is one of the main reactants that causes the fizzing. His term was 42 years for the position of king. Hammurabi was also the 6th king of the first Babylonian Dynasty. This soon made the babylonian empire s rule begin to unravel. What made Hammurabi famous was when he invented the first set of laws entitled Hammurabi s Code. This set of laws includes punishments that are very harsh and not a normal set of laws that are used now. They were the Babylonians in the south and the Assyrians to the North. The Babylonians were first to form an empire that would encompass all of Mesopotamia. The city of Babylon had been a city state in Mesopotamia for many years. After the fall of the Akkadian Empire, the city was taken over and settled by the Amorites. The city began its rise to power in 1792 BC when King Hammurabi took the throne. He was a powerful and capable leader who wanted to rule more than just the city of Babylon. Not long after becoming King, Hammurabi began to conquer other city states within the area. Within a few years, Hammurabi had conquered all of Mesopotamia including much of the Assyrian lands to the North. Under Hammurabi s rule, the city of Babylon became the most powerful city in the world. Located on the banks of the Euphrates River, the city was a major trade hub bringing together new concepts and products. Babylon also became the largest city in the world at the time with as many as 200,000 people living there at its peak. At the center of the city was a large temple called a ziggurat. (Project Summary) This project will focus on the British criminal justice system in the 1950s regarding juvenile behaviour. The research will explore the ways used to prevent juvenile crime, the social and psychological motivation for crime, and the way that the criminal justice system aimed to rehabilitate those convicted of a juvenile offence. To explore these areas an understanding of delinquency, and its consequences is needed. According to Wirt and Briggs delinquency involves personal suffering as well as a loss to society. 1 This suggests that juveniles are not mindfully delinquent as their actions have repercussions on their ... Across the world, whether it be in a first or a third world country, there are populations which tend to be segregated into communities and form part of the low socioeconomic status. These groups, usually termed slums , are heavily ostracised and are usually sought to be removed and stopped in their growth. Drawing from different locations as examples, I will firstly discuss how slums are established and the many complex economic, social and political issues which keep the slumalive in this modern age. There is also the matter of highlighting the way in which we define a slum and the people living within it and how this may affect slum growth. Lastly, I will make an allusion to measures that try and stop the advance of slums and their effectiveness. The origins and development of a slum are varied and complex. As there are a myriad of possible scenarios and variations, to avoid over complexity, there are a few key political, economic and social factors that are a running theme within the majority of slums. Most of these aspects transpire concurrently and are inextricably linked. One of the main causes of a slum s creation is due to rapid urbanisation in a city that is unable to keep up with the growing demands. The rapid influx of people to cities could be for several reasons: moving from rural areas to find work in bigger cities or migrating from a war torn country. Upon moving to these larger towns, they are unable to afford housing due to lower incomes in the

Compared to other nations, the role and rights of women in France were confronted earlier and Women s suffrage was enacted earlier. The role of women in France, because of the early change in perception of women, enabled France to develop faster and with less conflict than other competing nations. Missing from the painting is Marat s murderer, Charlotte Corday. Corday was a tall, attractive and articulate 25 year old who decided to travel all the way from Normandy to Paris in order to strike an important political blow. A very big supporter of the moderate Girondin Party, Corday blamed Marat for the Terror consuming the French Revolution, as faction warred against faction. While modeling herself after the heroes of antiquity whom she studied in Plutarch, she had planned to murder Jean Marat, like Julius Caesar, publically at the National Convention floor. Late nineteenth century Southern lynch mobs and Central American death squads did not even use the media to gain their publicity. It was mostly used by terrorist groups during the 19th and early 20th centuries. • 36. What Does Psychoacoustics Affect Your Brain Perceives... What is Psychoacoustics? Psychoacoustics can be simply described as how our brain perceives sounds that are heard throughout our environment. Psychoacoustics can be described by channeling three sub categories or dimensions: physical, physiological, and perceptual (Vassilakis, 2015). The physical aspects include: actual vibrations and soundwaves projected into the environment that reaches the earand further pathways in the brain. The physiological dimension refers to the actual shape and design features of the ear and the contributions that each part makes in creating and hearinga sound. Lastly, the perceptual dimension refers to what the brain is interpreting from a sound, aided through the physical and physiological dimensions of the overarching psychoacoustic category. Psychoacoustics originated from psychophysics clearly demonstrating the relationship between what happens in our physical surroundings and what our brain perceives (Vassilakis, 2015). Psychophysics is generally concerned with a number of aspects in relation to how a stimulus is heard. The first is sensation limit: a range of stimuli that we are able to perceive, ranging from high to low (Vassilakis, 2015). This can be related to the fact that some very high pitch sounds are unable to be heard. The second part is the idea of relative sensation thresholds or difference thresholds (Vassilakis, 2015). This is referring to the minimum amount of change that can be done to a stimulus that is still

The erotic nature of the scene is also meaningful, as sex is often seen as a means of transcending the individual by the physical and emotional unification of two bodies. Whitman attempts to replicate the role of the woman in his position as narrator by imaginatively engaging in a scene, often within another body, but not interfering with the reality of the moment. Although the narrator is the only character in the poem who explicitly transcends his body, Whitman makes it clear

The pregnancy is taken out of the uterus of the women by medical abortion which involves taking medicines to cause a miscarriage or by surgery, where the pregnancy is out of the uterus. • 47. Oil Is Destroying The Environment ! Oil Is Destroying the Environment! Argument Essay for the Use of Nuclear Fusion By: Bryanna Bergevin Oil has been used for centuries as the main source of energy in this country. It has been valued very high from that because it is very hard to find, and there s a limit of how much people can use. What if there was a time where this country could run out of oil? That wouldn t allow society to function properly, because of the rate were using oil now. The amount of oil burned also causes a huge amount of pollution in the air, possible global warming and causes people to even have to wear face masks in high populated areas in hopes to not breathe in the toxic smog that could damage respiratory systems and cause many health problems. There has also been impeccable damage to the oceans and forests, destroying the wildlife. This crisis may not affect society so much now, but there is only so much time before it gets much worse. A quote from David Suzuki states If we want to address global warming, along with the other environmental problems associated with our continued rush to burn our precious fossil fuels as quickly as possible, we must learn to use our resources more wisely, kick our addiction, and quickly start turning to sources of energy that have fewer negative impacts. (Suzuki, Sept 12, blog post) this quote states that people are using valued resources of oil in the wrong way, and how it is causing problems in the environment. Now should the environment be saved?
  • 48. Atherosclerosis Research Papers Brief Introduction (max 200 words) Although it was believed for a long time that second hand smoke only affects smokers, since the early 1980s it has been known that non smoking family members of smokers have twice the risk of experiencing heart attacks than those in non smoking households. Consequently, people living and working in environments that contain second hand smoke suffer coronary heart diseases (CHD) due to the toxic substances of tobacco smoke. Key concepts (max 500 words) Second hand smoke (SHS) consists of smoke from the burning end of a cigarette and the smoke breathed out by smokers. SHS contains more than 7,000 chemicals and more than 200 of these are known poisons, such as carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide, and methyl isocyanate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the plaque, arteries become narrower, slowly blocking the blood flow and causing increased risks of CHD. When the artery narrows and blood flow is reduced, the oxygen supply is decreased. Most of the time a blood clot forms and blocks the artery, thus stopping the blood flow. If the oxygen supply to the heart is reduced, a heart attack can occur. If the oxygen supply to the brain is cut off, a stroke can occur. Therefore SHS accelerates atherosclerosis in the arteries and aorta and the toxic substances in the smoke that builds up in the arteries, results in increased risks of getting cardiovascular diseases. When someone smokes indoors, the smoke cannot be kept away by opening a window or using a fan. In fact, research shows that toxins from smoke remain in a person s hair and clothes and the surrounding environment. These toxins, are hazardous to infants and children. The only way to avoid the risks of smoke is to avoid places where smoking occurs. That can be done by making sure family, friends, and visitors never smoke inside your house or vehicle, thus helping to keep the house smoke free by. Choose to eat in restaurants that are smoke free as non smoking sections do not provide protection from secondhand

This did not make the men happy. Three of the men came over and Colt was about to be thrown into the river when a young man by the name of Elisha K. Root came and stopped them. This man would later help Colt by designing most of the different machines that would make revolvers (Peterson 209). In 1836 Samuel Colt was granted a U.S. patent for a cap and ball pistol with a revolving cylinder that could fire five or six shots before reloading (Silva). After finally getting the patent, Colt bought a large tract of land about two hundred acres in Hartford Connecticut where he built a giant new factory where he started producing many revolvers. Colt made three different models of his revolvers and he also made carbines, rifles, and shotguns. Colt s revolvers became big. The Connecticut River was next to Colt s land and would flood that land every spring. So Colt hired hundreds of laborers to work on building a dyke to keep it from flooding. The dyke was one of the biggest in America at a mile and three quarters long. Colt s dyke was completed in 1854 (Haven). The United States was the first nation to give its troops a revolver. Colt s revolvers were used in the Mexican war. After the massacre at the Alamo, the Texas Rangers, with Colt revolvers in hands charged the Mexicans shouting remember the Alamo .(Silva

King Jr. strongly believed in peaceful protest, choosing to use silent rebellion in favor of violence. During a trip to Birmingham, Alabama in 1963, for a Christian Leadership Conference, King was jailed during a peaceful protest for the treatment of blacks. While in jail, King wrote a letter to fellow clergymen. In his Letter from Birmingham City Jail , Martin Luther King Jr. used several techniques to appeal to and effectively persuade the white clergymen he was writing to regarding segregation. King clearly displays the peacefulness of his protest, the unfairness of unjustified prejudice against blacks, and reveals examples of brutality against blacks. The primary method King uses in his letter is the clear demonstration of how peaceful his approach to this issue truly is. King makes sure to include the words nonviolent and peaceful several times throughout his letter to ensure that the readers of the letter understand that his campaign is just that. He also mentions the four basic steps of any nonviolent campaign, 1) collection of the facts to determine whether injustices are alive; 2) negotiation; 3) self purification; and 4) direct action (3). King includes the steps of his campaign in his letter to plainly reveal that it excludes any and all violence or brutality. He also uses these steps to show that whether or not his fellow

They felt the needed to appropriate and rewrite their history, inscribing it with a new meaning [Confino]. The inconceivable part is that their ideals came across to a large group of people. How did they do this? Propaganda was used extensively by the Nazis. They did everything in their power to make sure their message was clear. Propaganda is the spreading of ideas, information, or allegations to support or harm a cause. It is represented in a way to provoke a desired response. Learning from our past and our mistakes forms a better future. Even though the Holocaust is a complicated subject, we can all agree that taking the lives of others is unethical. The victims should be commemorated, and we should all educate ourselves about the truth. The truth that leads to
