Similarities Between Catt And Susan B Anthony
Woodrow Wilson, Carrie Chapman Catt, and Susan B. Anthony share a common purpose in their
addresses advocating women s suffrage.Wilson s Address to the Senate on the Nineteenth
Amendment expresses the opinion he holds about the lack of control over women being able to
vote; he prioritizes the use of logos to create an argument consisting of present fact and his own
belief of how the rest of the world will see them as a nation if they do not ratify the Nineteenth
Amendment. Catt s The Crisis analyzes her present issue of the acknowledgement of women s
suffrage. Catt explains that through the acknowledgement of women s suffrage, women have been
given more freedom, yet not the same equality as men. Catt wants more than just exceptions to
social rules, she wants people to understand that a woman is not only an imperative cog in the
societal machine, but equality should never be a crisis again. Susan B. Anthonywastes no time
getting to the point in On Women s Right to Vote; she instantly begins her speech with a strong
denial of allegations thrown her way and moves right in to speak about the government basing a
law off the sex of a person and how the government is not treated as a democracy. Through each of
these addresses Wilson, Catt, and Anthony are divided by their point of view and united by their
cause, yet only Carrie Chapman Catts address holds the most effective reasoning.

In July 1994, Turkish Police in Istanbul seized 22 pounds of uranium smuggled out of Azerbaijan.
In August 1994, a Lufthansa flight from
Moscow landed in Munich carrying a lead lined suitcase filled with
350 grams of plutonium that the smugglers had planned to sell for
$70,000 a gram. In December 1994, Czech police found an astonishing
3 kilograms of highly enriched, weapons grade uranium in the back seat of a parked car in Prague.
To think about something just think that it only takes 10 kilograms of highly enriched uranium to
build a bomb with the firepower of the amp;#8220;Little Boy ;. amp;#8220;Little Boy ; , by the

The Glass Steagall Act
Despite its humble beginnings in 1844 as a simple general store turned financial firm, the
Lehman Brothers greed drove their firm into the ground. It seemed as if Lehman Brothers was
indestructible. Surviving through the railroad bankruptcies in the 1800 s, the Great Depression of
the 1930 s, two world wars, a capital shortage in 1994, and everything in between, it seemed the
firm was built to last. However its inevitable end started in the early 2000 s with the housing boom
after the repeal of the Glass Steagall act.
Over the span of two years, 2003 and 2004, Lehman Brothers acquired a total of five mortgage
lenders, including the subprime lender BNC and Alt A loan specialist Aurora Loan. As the
housing boom was under way and the firm acquired these large players its Lehman real estate
business s capital market revenues cascaded 56% over the next two years 2004 to 2006. It was a
faster rate of growth than other businesses in investment banking or asset management.

Leadership Course Analysis
Reflection paper At the beginning of this course, I was curious as to how it would develop. The
following is a reflection on how the course has impacted me in both learning, expectations as a
new leader, and my everyday working life. I found that when I took the three leadership
evaluation tools, the results were not far off from what I expected. These results made me feel
positive about myself and the direction that I have intended on driving my career towards. These
tools further identify where my weaknesses are as well as where my strengths lie. Although I find
that this journey is frightening it has proven rewarding , as well as a diverse and complex trek.

lies in the realm of possibility, I plan to walk that path and realize my goals by becoming a leader

Bystanders In Bullying
Alternatives
However, teachers are not the only ones helping the victims. Several research studies have looked at
the role of bystanders in bullying students. Teachers and students who witness bullying can work
together to reduce bullying in schools and classrooms. But there is also evidence that those who
were bystanders were not willing to help the victims (Espelage, Green, Polanin, 2012). Students
often do not support victims when there are multiple witnesses (Salmicalli, 2010). Students expect
someone else to intervene or ignore the victim or may consider the bullying to be a joke ( Terasahjo
Salmivalli, 2003). Consequently, bullied victims feel that they are not only suffering pain from
being bullied, but also from being ignored by peers (Salmavalli Poskirparta, 2012). ... Show more

Comparison Of The Dictatorship Of Big Brother And The...
The dictatorship of Big Brother and the American government, both use similar ways to monitor
their citizens, but they have different reasons for it. Big Brother wants to closely monitor his
citizens so they are obedient by fear and the American government watches their citizens to protect
them and their rights. They do this through televisions, spies and surveillancecameras. In the
beginning of the novel 1984, the reader is introduced to how the governmentunder the dictatorship
of Big Brother is administrated as well as how it runs its citizens. Not only are the people of
Oceania suppressed, but they are also audited through whatever means deemed necessary by the
government. They are even watched through their televisions. Because of this the main character,
Winston Smith, placed his television on a wall in his house so Winston was able to remain outside
the range of the telescreen, so far as sight went. This is where Winston writes his qualms with the
government down in a diary. Furthermore, the CIA, has been said to have the capacity to break
into our everyday consumer electronics.... The USA Today article goes into further detail by
stating that, CIA hackers could break into iPhones, Android phones, PCs running Microsoft
Windows and Samsung smart TVs, and exploit the microphones inside such electronics, (TVs are
allegedly spying on you, Baig). It has been argued that this is a violation of privacy, but others state
that it is merely for protection. In addition

Dante s Journey Of Salvation
As Dante makes his ascent through hell and purgatory, he is guided by two figures. The first is
Virgil, who saves him from peril and accompanies him, as a friend, through the layers of both
afterlifes. The second is Beatrice, who inspired Dante s journey of salvation in the first place, and
who he longs to be reunited with. Yet although these guides are leading him towards God, Dante
mistakes their guiding as the end itself. He makes a God of Beatrice, sees her as the ultimate good
towards which one strives, and makes a Jesusof Virgil, the man through whom this ultimate good is
reached. In this way, Dante creates his own trinity, much to the detriment of his ascent to the True
God.
His first mistake, through which the others stem, is equating Beatrice to God. While she was alive,
her beautiful eyes and lovely limbs were the only things keeping him on the holy path. This is clear
when he confesses Things set in front of me, / with their false delights, turned back my steps / the
moment that Your countenance was hidden (Purgatorio.31.34 36). He could have avoided traveling
through the afterlifes had he not overvalued her in the first place. In fact, even when he is
promised redemption through his journey, it takes Virgil mentioning Beatrice as the end goal of
his journey to persuade Dante to begin the undertaking (Inferno.2.57 126). Dante still sees
Beatrice, rather than God, as the end towards which he strives. For her sake alone he goes down
into the deepest pits of

What Role Does Nature Play In Icarus
What is nature s role in the myth of Icarus and Daedalus? In the short story Icarus and Daedalus
and the poem Icarus nature plays a big role when Icarus, Daedalus son, escapes with him by flying
but ends up being careless and dies due to the sun. The short story talks about the story of Icarus
and Daedaluswhen the poem is about Icarusdeath and what he must have been thinking while
plunging to his death. In Icarus and Daedalus by Josephine Preston Peabody, and Icarus by Wendy
A. Shaffer, nature exacerbates by having Icarus die in both the short story and poem.
To begin, in In Icarus and Daedalus by Josephine Preston Peabody, Icarus is foolish and nature is
not on his side, and he ends up flying too close to the sun and dies. Daedalus ... Show more content

Shaffer, the poem uses nature against Icarus. This poem is about what it would be like to be
Icarus while he was taking his last breath. Was Icarus mad? Was he blaming his father? Was he
regretful? These were all questions that were addressed throughout the poem. The mythical
poem states, Watching white feathers flutter upward, curse the wax as a fair weathered friend...
Did he rail at the sun... he laughed, and admitted that even had he known of the many failings of
fathers and feathers, he would have done it anyway (Shaffer 20). This piece of evidence
displays the importance of Icarus flying to close to the sun and dying. It shows how he killed
himself along with the nature. The nature of the myth and poem plays the role of freedom and
death. The feathers signify freedom because of being able to flutter and fly, while the sun
signifies death and misfortune. Even though Icarus died, he died being the adventurous foolish
person he is. With nature not on his side, it shows how when you do not follow rules, you may
end up being in serious trouble even if it was fun. If you get too senseless, you can end up having
a big problem. Overall, in the poem Icarus by Wendy A. Shaffer, nature is the root of Icarus

Leo Tolstoy The Three Hermits
In the short story The Three Hermits Leo Tolstoy illustrates how faith in God does not derive
from the complexity of one s prayer or doctrine, but rather from the simplicity and humbleness in
one s heart to be genuinely faithful and all serving to him. The story consists of three religious
hermits, who have chosen a life of simplistic isolation. Also, there is this bishop on a pilgrimage to
spread the word of god, he hears about these hermits that live on a small island in search of the
salvation of their souls (275). As a holy man himself, the priest had no choice but to see these
hermits for himself and educate them about true doctrine. The three hermits were men who had
sacrifice their entire lives to God. Tolstoy portrays their sacrifice by the men s descriptions. They
were extremely old, the fisherman stated that one s must have been at least hundred years old. They
were wearing tattered peasant clothes. One was even described to have a beard to his knees. They
lived in their humble island without the need of materialistic possessions. They showed no signs of
greed, lust, gluttony, they were true men of god. Also, the men showed great humbleness through
their charity. When the fisherman got stranded on the Hermit s island they welcomed him. The
hermits helped him mend his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bishop believed the only right way to serve God was through the holy scriptures. The humble
men repeated each doctrine until it was implanted in their brains, but they did not understand why
they were saying those things. They repeated, but did not truly feel it in their hearts. They only
knew one way to pray, a simple verse three are ye, three are we, have mercy upon us (277). It was
simple, yet it was something they truly believed in. They wanted a greater connection to God,
unknowing that they were one with God already through their pure hearts and genuine

Essay about Carl Gustav Jung
Carl Gustav Jung was a Swiss psychiatrist and
founder of the school of analytical psychology. He
proposed and developed the concepts of the
extroverted and introverted personality,
archetypes, and the collective unconscious. The
issues that he dealt with arose from his personal
experiences. For many years Jung felt as if he had
two separate personalities. One introverted while
the other was extroverted. This interplay results in
his study of integration and wholeness. His work
has been influential not only in psychology, but in
religion and literature as well. Jung was born on
July 26, 1875 in Kesswil, Switzerland, the only
son of a Protestant clergyman. At the age of four

When Jung
published quot;Psychology and the Unconscious quot;
which went against some of Freud s ideas the
relationship was finished forever. In 1912
quot;Symbols and Transformations of the Libido quot; was
published. Jung wanted to understand the
symbolic meaning of the contents of the
unconscious. In order to distinguish between
individual psychology and psychoanalysis Jung
gave his discipline the name quot;analytical
psychology. quot; After a break with the start of WWI,
Jung wrote the book quot;Psychological Types quot;. It set
the differences between his position and that of
Freud. Jung became more interested in the study
of mythological and religious symbolism. His
studies took him across the globe observing many
different cultures. He was interested in tracing the
analogies between the contents of the unconscious
in Western man and the myths, cults, and rituals of
primitive peoples. Jungian therapy deals with
dreams and fantasies. A discussion is set up
between the conscious and the contents of the
unconscious. When the therapy works the patient
enters an individuation process. This consists of
psychological transformations ending in the
opposite tendencies working together to achieve
personal wholeness. Jung s total amount of work is
very large. It is estimated at 200 papers. An
edition of his Collected Works in English was
completed in 1972 by the Bollingen Foundation

The Truth About Being Misunderstood
Corbin watched Patria disappear up the stairs and heard her bedroom door, his bedroom door,
close softly. What he d said was the truth. Her mother had protected her till her death. But maybe
Patria was right as well. By not telling her what they knew they were leaving her vulnerable. She
trusted the Cavicks too much. Maybe if she knew their hands were dirty she wouldn t be so
trusting. He would go talk to her, but it could wait. He still needed more information. He needed
to talk to Alexandrov again. Corbin turned to Pinks. Your vocabulary has become unusual since
you woke. Has it? Pinks asked as he shoveled eggs into his mouth. It has. Why do you think that
is? Corbin asked. This wasn t the first time he d brought this up, but it was becoming more
noticeable. Pinks shrugged. Maybe I ve finally found my intellectual equal and I can freely
express myself without fear of being misunderstood, or having to explain my words. Corbin
finished his breakfast quickly and took his plate to the sink. I need to go. Stay with her, and let
me know what she does. You re welcome for breakfast! Pinks yelled after him. I am not the
housekeeper, he muttered, but Corbin still heard him. Corbin hit the garage door opener, but held on
to the Tahoe as he knelt to the ground. His vertigo made him gag a few times and he thoughthe was
going to toss up the breakfast he didn t thank Pinks for. His vertigo definitely wasn t getting better.

Rising Tide Summary
John M. Barry, author of Rising Tide: The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 and How it Changed
America, communicates his fascination with the Mississippi River by using diction, imagery, and
syntax. Barry s word choice conveys the mechanical force of the river; his use of imagery the
beauty, and his use of syntax the unpredictability. Barry s command of rhetorical devices draws the
reader in and brings the Mississippi Riverto life. Using scientific prose, Barry reveals his deep
interest in the unusual physical properties of the river. Its natural characteristics are what sets it
apart; the Mississippi does not conform to standards set by other rivers. Instead, it exceeds most
major rivers in variation, depth, and volume. In fact, the Mississippi is so outstanding that
theories and techniques that apply to other rivers ... simply do not work on the lower Mississippi
(Barry 25 28). Looking beyond its external features, the river also contains an intricate internal
system unlike any other. In addition to the complicated internal circumstances that normally
occur within rivers, the Mississippi also stands out because of its size, its sediment load, its
depth, variations in its bottom and its ability to cave in the riverbank and slide sideways for
miles (Barry 20 23). As he describes the unusual corporeal aspects of the Mississippi, Barry brings
to light his own wonder in the face of such a daunting natural force. Characterizing the river with its

Should 16 Year Olds Be Able To Vote
Due to the society we live in today I personally believe that 16 year olds should be able to vote.
For one, they are given the responsibility to drive, pay taxes, and can be charged with a criminal
defense as an adult. With that being said they are being treated like an adult. Also, at that age
you as an individual know what is best for yourself and others of your age group. This can go as
far as gun ownership which is a problem in some countries, minimum wage as they are the prime
age group that is being affected, as well as education as it affects them in the future and other
generations behind them. Lastly, it would give a greater say in what other generations have to
think about who is leading and area or country. Do you still believe 16 year olds shouldn t vote?
The legal working age in Canada is 14, however the age where most teens are hired is 16.
Working teens at 16 are asked to contribute to their countries wealth by paying taxes. Paying taxes
shows that they are responsible enough to manage their own income and still 16 year olds are seen
as too immature to vote. In a article on the C.D.C website it states, Children at ... Show more

Mike Tartakovsky raised concerns about unlimited data and minutes. The way calls are being made

It was agreed there are a lot of nuances that need to be addressed, but there is an opportunity for
NIH to push back on the more onerous parts of the HHS policy, especially if an acceptable MDM
is implemented.
Jeff Erickson clarified the distinction between the device/carrier contract and the MDM initiative
and informed the group of the rationale behind separating the two initiatives for the near term at
least. He stated that registering a device to the MDM solution becomes a pre requisite to allow
the device to connect to NIH networks and reiterated the difference of GFE versus BYOD/POE;
one we own and one we manage.
The assumption is the MDM will be hosted as a cloud service and will integrate into the cloud

Jeff requested help from the CIOs in communicating and supporting the activity and the change that

managed separately.

Research Essay on Legalization of Marijuana
Legalization of Marijuana: Risky or Beneficial? Tammy Russ COM/156 January 15, 2012

October 2011 revealed that 77% of those polled believe that doctors should be allowed to
prescribe marijuana for serious illnesses. This compares to 65% just one year prior (ProCon.org,

the positive aspects of enacting laws allowing its use come to the public s attention. Illegal

Bringing together experts they asked the question Knowing the impact alcohol and tobacco

the 1933 law repealing Prohibition, what provisions to protect children would you have
included? ( NFIA launches campaign , 2010, p. 5). Opponents of legalization also argue the
gateway effect, asserting that the younger one begins using marijuana, the more likely he or she
will be to use cocaine or heroin as an adult. However, proponents highlight that in 2006, eight out
of 10 states where marijuana is legal saw a decrease in teen use of marijuana over a seven year
period. In addition, advocates of legalization have shown that while marijuana was the cause of 279
deaths between 1997 and 2005, there were 11,687 deaths from 17 different prescription medicines
(Anonymous, 2010). Beyond these more obvious arguments, legalization would bring new issues to
the forefront. Employers would be faced with revamping drug testing policies and the health
insurance agencies would have prescription and treatment ramifications to deal with. Weighing the
arguments and implications is a daunting task. Economic and social considerations must also be
factored into the argument. Time Magazine reported that the United States spends about $150
billion on the criminal justice system and 47.5% of all drug arrests are marijuana related. That is

Mandela was imprisoned in South Africa from 1964 82. During the period of his imprisonment
his public reputation grew. Upon his release from prison, he was considered the most prominent

qualities characteristics were his determination, persistence, focus and will. 4. Adolf Hitler
Many may argue the inclusion of Adolf Hitler in the list of world s greatest leader. But one must
know that nowhere is it mentioned that leadership is always positive. Leadership, as a
characteristic, is neutral. It is people who make it positive of negative. Adolf Hitler was born in
1889 in Germany. He was of the thought that Germany was the greatest country in the world and
that it should rule over the world. His crass mentality was that the Aryan race should wipe out the
evil Jews off the face of this world. After becoming the chancellor of Germany in 1933, he single
handedly managed the greatest economic and military expansions the world has ever seen. He
successfully invaded more than 10 countries with his brilliant strategy and meticulous planning.
His oratory skills, propaganda and planning made him a leader that only a few other have become.

Burgermeister s Daughter Essay
Burgermeister s Daughter
What was the predominant image of women and women s place in medieval society? Actual
historical events, such as the scandal and subsequent litigation revolving around Anna Buschler
which Steven Ozment detail s in the Burgermeisters Daughter, suggests something off a
compromise between these two literary extremes. It is easy to say that life in the sixteenth century
was surely no utopia for women but at least they had some rights.
Anna was the daughter of Hermann Buschler, a prominent citizen who had even been the
burgermeister of the German town of Schwabisch Hall, within the Holy Roman Empire. When she
was young, Anna had simultaneous affairs with a young local nobleman, Erasmus Schenk of
Limpurg, and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anna s story shows that women did have some rights, and that they also had, at least in this case,
the ability to defend those rights within legal institutions. Even more important is evidence of
public opinion, instead of siding against Anna as an unfit daughter causing trouble for her family
Hall s citizens actually sided with Anna against her father. In this, both daughter s obedience to
father and woman s obedience to man were turned on their heads, revealing that regardless of
religious doctrines of male authority, life among the people was much more complex.
While not a complete victory for Anna, the battle for her inheritance was not a complete loss
either. She capably fought her father and even the entire city council of Hall. This was no easy
task because she couldn t represent herself in court. It was one of the first times where the moral
code of Germany was overturned. She contested her father and went against the respect you re
supposed to have. Her story was not a complete positive statement of female dominance, because
that certainly was not the case, an ugly thirty year court battle doesn t indicate disempowerment
either, even though her battle didn t personally benefit her to the fullest, it was a large step for
women.
In the sixteenth century the normative relations between father and child, and among

Crime And Crime Essay
Before the twentieth century, explaining crime followed Darwin, and Lumbroso s idea that
criminals were biologically inferior. But with the development of the industry and the urbanization
of the late 1800s and 1900s, the Progressive movement arose, arguing that crime was a social
product. It was not the individual and its biologically inferior traits that would cause him to
commit crime, it is rather the environment that causes people to commit crime. That was the
beginning of the Chicago School. Because Chicago witnessed a rapid social change due to
industrialization and the sudden urbanization and mass population shift, it became the prime
choice to study how social change impacted criminal conduct. Researchers at the University of
Chicago believed that crime would be best understood by looking at neighborhood characteristics.
Shaw and McKay (1929) were influenced by the Chicago School in that they asked the question
does it make a difference if a child grows up in an inner city community affected by ethnic
heterogeneity, poverty, and social mobility? The question led to shifting the focus of what causes
crime from an individual perspective to a social, environmental perspective. Thus, when studying
delinquency and crime, Shaw and McKay (1929) and Burgess (1967) argued that neighborhoods
may be the contributing factors to crime and not the individual. Shaw and McKay (1929)
hypothesized that delinquency would be higher in areas where social disorganization (i.e. where

The Negative Aspects Of School Integration
Throughout history school integration has been somewhat of a war, but why? Although school
integration should be something that is praised because of what it has done for children in the past,
many people and administrators do all in their power to prevent school integration. We claim as a
society that all children should have the same opportunities, but in many cases that is not an option
without schoolintegration. In order to grow as a rising society, it is important for people to set
aside what their negative beliefs about school integration are if it means a better future for children
who otherwise would not have the chance to thrive as they should. B. The Problem We All Live
With Part One: A Sociological Analysis:
In part one of The Problem We All Live With, we are introduced to many incredible, unforgettable
facts about the American school district, facts that are very often overlooked in today s society.
Nikole Hannah Jones speaks out about her years reporting on the american education system and
the different problems she encountered while doing so. Nikole states that administrators have
tried to close the enormous achievement gap between 1971 and 1988 between primarily black
and white students that was about forty points. Because most underachieving school districts
were mostly black and latino, these problems were often dismissed. School districts were not
doing much to help the fact that children in segregated schools, more often than not, had the least
experienced teachers, which was a large part of the problem(Cole, 1978: 183). The Normandy
school district in Missouri became unaccredited because of how poor the quality of the education
was. Because Normandy became an unaccredited school, the transfer law came into effect. The
transfer law is a law that gave students in unaccredited school districts the right to transfer to a
nearby accredited schools for free (Stephanopoulos, 2016: 403). The transfer law gave students of
Normandy the right to transfer to Francis Howell, an accredited school on the other other side of
town. Parents of Francis Howell were not happy with the Normandy students transferring because
they were convinced that this would lower the quality of the Francis Howell

Careful management of capacity has been an integral part of US airlines strategy and
consolidation has given US airlines an element of pricing power. Despite a concentrated effort
from the majority of airlines to resist capacity expansion, investors are concerned that expansion
by some airlines is putting too many seats into the market, which could disrupt the balance
between supply and demand at the same time that oil prices have climbed 34% since a 2015 low
on March 17 (current price for Brent oil is $54/bbl.). However, most airlines will likely resist
expanding capacity rather than use their fuel cost savings to pursue market share gains (Bloomberg

Moody s projects that ROIC for rated US airlines will improve sharply in 2015 as lower fuel costs

Social Media is used to provide information about a particular disaster and in turn receive
feedback, messages, comments and posts from users. The use of social media as an emergency
weapon for communication is increasing and readily available to post emergency information in
turn receiving assistance requests from affected people, using images uploaded to estimate the
damage caused and how to come to aid with these conditions.
But is social media actually capable of helping those affected in disasters through the Internet
forum?
The use of social media during natural calamities at all levels local or international has
successfully widened and expressed interest concerning how social media very soon will be used to
come in terms with recovery of affected regions and cultural monuments because of disaster.
Taking the recent natural disaster, an earthquake with massive magnitude that affected Nepal as an
example we examine the benefits of using social media as a platform with its implication in context
to natural disasters.
Introduction:
The use of social media is not restricted by geographical boundaries; it is used to interact with
anyone in the world who is sharing the same media application (Boyd and Ellison, 2008).

Essay on Foreclosure Crisis In America
It is evident that the housing deficit is just a layer of the many problems we are suffering from
during the hard times in our economy. Foreclosure is indeed a horrific word that is haunting
homeowners across the US. Because of the situation in the current economy, millions of Americans
have been plagued by foreclosing on their homes and are left to find new location for themselves
and their families to live. Recently in Detroit, with the efforts to negate the current standings, they
provided housing aid. According to the housing statistic, the housing aid drew crowds in Detroit.
One in four working age adults in Detroit are without a job and the city s home foreclosure rate
continues to be among the nation s highest. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem is there is inevitably a lack of housing, due to homelessness and influx of people.
Without enough housing, the prices of the homes will be very expensive; however, if there is not a
balanced mix of luxury and affordable housing, those already living there will be forced to leave
because they will not be able to maintain taxes and other increases that will be tacked on to
housing expenses. In order to make this process a bit more feasible, New York created the
Inclusionary Zoning program. This program required that developers set aside a certain percentage
of units in a new development as affordable units. The issue with this zoning ordinance is that
although it was stated as a requirement the city kept it as a voluntary process. With the ordinance
being voluntary and developers with a capitalist mentality, many developers opted out of adhering
to the ordinance. Although the residents of New York may not be in the power broker or decision
making classification, many of its inhabitants have been there for many years. Unless there are
efforts to make this ordinance mandatory, there will be much opposition to keep new development
out.
There is by no means a simple solution to solving the home foreclosure epidemic but there are
many changes that can be made to help Americans across the globe. The first, I believe starts

Burroughs Not Marinetti s Futurist Essay
The potentials of the new technology created in the early twentieth century created a variety of
reactions with in society. Some people embraced the changes, others resisted the developments, and
still others fell somewhere in between. Filippo Tommaso Marinetti s piece, The Futurist Manifesto
, embraces the rapid transformation of society. His world is composed of fast, powerful machines
and strong, young citizens. The Manifesto also depicts an aggressive, violent, and unjust world that
is devoid of any morals. Edgar Rice Burroughsis another author whose work, A Princess of Mars,

He says, When we are forty let younger and stronger men than we throw us in the waste paper
basket like useless manuscripts (4). Just as significant as Carter s significant prowess is his
courageous, fearless, and violent demeanor. All of these traits are highly valued in Marinetti s
Futurist Manifesto. Nonetheless, this initial glance of Burroughs work is highly deceptive. Though
John Carter is violent, he only fights in self defense or in the defense of his dependents like his
Martian watchdog, Woola, and his love interest, Dejah Thoris. He exhibits a sense of morals and
justice that Marinetti clearly rejects in his manifesto. Burroughs stress on the value of morality is
further solidified by the comparison between the Tharks, the green Martians, and the red Martians
of Helium. The green Martians are warlike, uncultured, and unjust, which contributes to their
backwardness. On the other hand, the red Martians are highly civilized because they show fairness,
lawfulness, and love. (transition) Marinetti even states in the Manifesto of Futurism that, Beauty
exists only in the struggle. There is no masterpiece that has not an aggressive character. This suits
Marinetti s own piece because of the raw, violent, and sexual imagery used to describe the
machinery in the future. For example, the reader is confronted with rogue locomotives and hungry,
roaring automobiles . Furthermore, Marinetti says that the Futurists want to glorify war because it

Design Of The Fourth Amendment
Design of the Fourth Amendment The Fourth Amendment was not designed to serve as a fixed
protection against government abuse. There is no amendment to the Bill of Rights whose contents
should be taken at the face value they were written for. Keeping any amendment in its historical
context would solidify the amendment as a defense for the historical incidents that occurred in late
eighteenth century, rather than a guarantee that law enforcement officers act accordingly in present
day. As times change and advances are made to technology, society identifies a need for changes
within amendments; specifically the Fourth. Based on the majority opinions of landmark cases by
the Supreme Court, we are able to predict where Fourth Amendment law is headed in connection
with new technologies. Law is the formal embodiment of rules that legislators, regulators, and
judges etch into statute books, administrative manuals, and judicial decisions. It is unavoidable and
desirable to see the law change as technology becomes increasingly sophisticated (Larkin 2013).
The invention of telecommunications systems in 1875, created a need for a law to protect the
integrity of conversations. Likewise, the invention of electronic devices such as car spotlights,
electronic listening devices, global positioning systems, and thermal imaging scanners brought
upon a validated reason for the public to be concerned. The concern raised was over the abuse of
these devices by the government in order to acquire

Analysis Of Prospective Cohort Study Data
Statistical Analysis An objective of the analysis of prospective cohort study data is to compare
disease occurrence in the group to the exposure factors. Disease occurrence is measured using
cumulative incidence or incidence rates, and the relationship between exposure and disease
occurrence is quantified by the cumulative incidence or incidence rate difference and ratio.
Calculating an incidence rate involves determining the amount of person time accrued by each
study subject. Relative risks of each of the variables that are evaluated in the study are calculated.
In addition, a Cox proportional hazard models is used to analyzed the relationship between
environmental and genetic factors and type 1 diabetes mellitus. Persons years were calculated for
all the individuals from the beginning of the prospective cohort study until the end of the study or

because the study has continuous and multiple covariates. Each of the factors need to be evaluate

the manifestation of type 1 diabetes mellitus. Multivariate analysis is necessary to implement due to

Youth Culture And Subculture Developed
Youth culture existed before the Second World War and it did not suddenly appear after 1945.
However, it emerged after that time for various reasons that will be explained later on this essay.
There were many factors of how youth culture and subculture developed such as: demographic
changes, National Service, education and raising the school leaving age, the economic period
and music. And these factors also helped shape people s experiences of them. B Demographic
changes were the first and one of the reasons why youth culture created such anxiety. Because of
survived married soldiers coming back from the Second World War, there was a baby boom ,
which meant that the number of people under twenty grew from 3 million in 1951 to 4 million
in 1966. (Osgerby, 2005) B There were two changes that happened and established youth as a
group with certain needs and problems. The first one was Butler s education act of 1944, and that
raised the school leaving age from 12 to 14. Further changes were made in 1947 raising it to 15
and 16 in 1972. Which meant that it allowed children to go to secondary school. The second change
was the development of youth services such as youth clubs, which made these young people do
something useful in their leisure. (Osgerby, 2005) B Another factor that helped shape the
development of youth culture was the introduction of the National Service in 1948 and that

Supply and Demand Economic Critique
The United States economy is determined by a number of factors, such as; gross domestic product
(GDP), unemployment rates, consumer income, and interest rates. Everything the U.S. produces is
measured by the GDP. When the GDP turns negative, the economy can enter a recession. If this
negative GDP continues for years the country is considered in a depression. Supply and demand are
the forces drive the U.S. economy. Supply includes employment and natural resources such as oil.
Demand, or personal consumption, drives 70% of the economy. The current spiral of the United
States economy can be attributed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Consumer Confidence Index is watched by stock market analysts and investors to get an idea
of whether consumer spending will continue to drive the economy.
The U.S. is also facing income inequality, one quarter of Americans make less than $10 per hour,
and this is income below poverty level. Many lower wage workers receive no health insurance,
pension plans, no sick or vacation days. Recent government tax policies have helped rich investors
more than the low wage earners. Technology and outsourcing has increased inequality. Emerging
markets of other countries are seeing increases in their income as they become more competitive in
the global marketplace. Overseas work forces are becoming more skilled and sophisticated in
managing their economy; as a result, wealth is shifting to those countries.
Interest rates control the flow of money in the economy. High interest rates curb inflation, but also
slow down the economy. Lower interest rates stimulate the economy, but could lead to inflation.
Americans must know whether rates are increasing or decreasing, and what other economic
indicators are saying. The target interest rate, or short term interest rate is controlled by the
Federal Reserve. Long term interest rates are market driven. The global average interest rate for
long term debt is the result of global demand for credit compared to global supply of saving.
It doesn t seem clear if the country is still rising from its

Art And Copy Summary
Art and Copy is a 2008 documentary about the advertising industry in the United States. The film
highlights several well known advertisers such as George Lois, Mary Wells Lawrence, Lee Clow,
and Hal Riney. This documentary offers insights into the growth of the advertising industry, as well
as the shift to creative ads, and the importance of creativity in the advertisingoffices.
One of the goals of the advertisers was to make the world seem more colorful. After two World
Wars and The Depression, there was a rather bleak outlook on life, and advertisers wanted to make
people look at the world in a new light.
One of the ways which this this strategy was implemented was in the Braniff International Airways
advertisements. The advertisers focused on the colors. They focused on the fact that their planes
came in 7 different colors, and how the interiors of each planes were a different color that
complimented the exteriors. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He knew that if the creatives were allowed to come up with the ad campaigns they would be
much more successful, but the ad agencies instead simply did what the client asked for and raked
in the money. Clow ended up leaving that agency because he was disgusted by the lack of
creativity and the cynicism in the agency, and moved to Chiat Day, which was an agency that
believed in creating high quality work for their clients.
A final takeaway from this film is the idea that outrageous ideas are sometimes the best and most
successful ones. As George Lois said in this documentary, the best kind of ad is one that when the
consumer first looks at it, they think it is outrageous, but after 10 20 seconds, they realize that the
ad actually is very on the nose. To prove this point, this documentary highlighted George Lois s ad
campaign for Tommy Hilfiger as proof of this

Kenyan Independence Movement
Kenyan Independence Movement The East Africa Protectorate was first colonized by British
settlers in 1895 and with the creation of the treaty of Versailles in 1920 it officially came under
British control as the colony of Kenya. The people of Kenya were never content with having the
white settlers take their land from them and continuously expressed their thoughts. However, Kenya
wouldn t become an independent nation until December 12, 1963. Kenya s road to independence
was filled with oppression and disappointment. There were many separate attempts to lead Kenya
to freedom, but all of them failed to reach their goals. The Mau Mau Rebellion was the final straw
for colonialism in Kenya and the natives last push for independence. The... Show more content on

All of his attempts to draw sympathy in Europe failed and he returned to Kenya at the end of
World War II to try to get his people a political voice in the government. Originally, the KAU was
only made up of the Kikuyu elite , but ultimately it widens its sphere of influence to encompass
many of the different ethnicities within Kenya. What had started as a small group of intellectuals
would grow to include over 150,000 angry Kenyans by 1951. Kenyatta believed strongly that
violence would only hurt their cause. If they approached things in a political and peaceful manner,
it would show the British that these people were civilized and ready to govern themselves. The
KAU continually tried to gain more political power in the government, but the colonial government
did everything it could to prevent the KAU from succeeding. When the KAU tried appealing to the
British government, they got nothing but promises. The Kenyans started growing restless, waiting
for promises that will never be fulfilled. To many people, violence seemed like the only way to
solve their problems. When peaceful independent movements failed to succeed, people gave up
hope that their problems could be solved peacefully. The building frustration was about to burst.
With World War II ending, returning soldiers expected to get some recognition for their serviced in

Essay on To the Virgins, To Make Much of Time by Robert...
The meaning of the first stanza is do the things you need to get done because tomorrow the
opportunity may not exist. It states this by saying gather rosebuds while you can because that
beautiful flower tomorrow will be dying (Herrick 385). The next stanza talks about the Sun s life
from dawn to dusk. By describing it s race against timeit is telling a person that there is not much
sunlight so make the most of it To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time
and Carpe Diem
Ever hear of the phrase carpe diem ? It is a common Latin phrase meaning seize the day or in
plain English, make the most of the time you have. This phrase is very well portrayed in Robert
Herrick s most popular poem To the Virgins, to Make... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second stanza tells about a glorious lamp of heaven , the sun, running a race from sunup to
sundown (Herrick 385). In the third stanza it talks about when people are youthful they think they
have all the time to accomplish their goals but times still succeed the former , which simply means
time
Huffer 2 always wins and people are old before they know it (Herrick 385). The meaning and
theme of carpe diem is clearly described in the four stanzas of the poem. before it s gone. The
third stanza means simply that the times are best when people are young to realize their dreams
and do something about it instead of wasting time. Have as much fun as you can while you are a
kid and do as much as you can when you are a teenager and most importantly live everyday to
your highest expectations. The way I comprehended Herrick s ways of portraying the poem with
images and what it means tells how it makes me feel.
I really like this poem because it makes me want to get out of bed in the morning or turn off the
television and do something productive like read a book, or go to the gym. It perfectly reveals
the true meaning of carpe diem. The very first sentence alone tells me to get things done while I
can. Now when I think of To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time , it will remind me of carpe
diem, which will make me want to make every minute of my day account for something good
whether it be reading a chapter

The Psychosocial Effects Of Breast Cancer
Breast cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in American women and around 12
percent of women will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime.1 Patients have the choice of
5 different types of mastectomy: total mastectomy with removal of breast tissue without lymph
node removal, modified radical mastectomy where the entire breastand axillary lymph nodes are
removed, radical mastectomy where entire breast and chest muscles are removed, partial
mastectomy frequently referred to as breast conservative surgery where only cancerous tissue is
removed, or subcutaneous mastectomy where breast tissue is removed with conservation of the
nipple and areola.2 The standard of care in the United States for women who have had mastectomy
secondary to breast cancer is to receive a breast reconstruction.2 On top of a common but
devastating diagnosis of breast cancer with fears of facing months of chemotherapy and radiation,
most women also make the decision to beat the cancer with a mastectomy and reconstruction.
The topic I am choosing for my literature review is the psychosocial effects after breast
reconstruction in women who have chosen mastectomy as an intervention for breast cancer. I have
always been very interested in going into the plastic surgery field when I become a provider and I
believe researching this topic can help plastic surgeons and their staff provide appropriate patient
education or advise that can result in the most favorable post surgical

Literature Review On Metacognition
2. Literature review
2.1. Metacognition Generally Metacognition is defined as how individual monitor and control their
cognitive process (Young Fry, 2008). Metacognition refers to being able to reflect upon, understand,
and control one s learning. Previous accounts of metacognition have differentiated between two
major components, including knowledge about cog¬nition and regulation of cognition (Brown,
1987; Flavell, 1987; Jacobs Paris, 1987). Knowledge about cognition includes three sub processes
that simplify the reflective aspect of metacognition: declarative knowledge (i.e., knowledge about
self and about strategies), procedural knowledge (i.e., knowledge about how to use strategies), and
conditional knowledge (i.e., knowledge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the area of general education, research has been found that intelligence is a strong predictor of
learning (Chamorro Premuzic, 2007; Primi, Ferrao, Almeida, 2010). According to Flavell (1979,
1987), metacognition involves metacognitive knowledge and metacognitive experiences or
regulation of cognition. Also Metacognition has been recognized as a strong predictor of learning
(Coutinho, 2007; Dunning, Johnson, Ehrlinger, Kruger, 2003; Flavell, 1976, 1979; Kruger
Dunning, 1999; Veenman Elshout, 1995). The pupose of this research is to give information about
relationships between intelligence, metacognition, and learning but first of all the examination of
the predictive power of intelligence and metacognition in L2 learning gets priority in this study.
Then, estimated the distinctive contribution of metacognition and intelligence beyond and above
each other. Although some studies have done such these examination ,such as; language learning
and intelligence (Ekstrand, 1977; Genesee, 1976), and language learning and metacognition (Green
Oxford, 1995; Oxford Burry Stock, 1995), but no study has examined the concurrent relationship of
these two variables as language learning s predictors. In This study the examination of the role of

Theme Of Civilization And War In Apocalypse Now
In the award winning film Apocalypse Now, Coppola explores the recurrent themes of
civilization and war as a moral and political struggle. Through a series of episodes up the river,
Coppola brings us through an intentional sensory journey where we as the audience is left with
the ultimate unsettling aftertaste, witnessing the struggle of the protagonist. In the film, Coppola
raises issues from the social historical context of the Vietnam war, debunking myths of heroism
and victory, tearing it down into its raw form of what war is truly about and its impact on the
world. As said by Rich, Coppola is bent on a quest for essence of individual morality, an essence
that by its very nature cannot be found in a social scale of historical events, but only in the private
moments of tragedy. (Rich, 1980) In that light, this essay will explore the relationship between
civilization and war, the portrayal of its brutality and effect on civilization, the ironic glorification
of war and treatment of the Vietnamese civilization and the degradation of the soldiers moral
sanctity as they move further into the war and away from civilization.

While there is consistency in the low light and dull colour characteristics throughout the movie,
Coppola further highlights Willard s extreme mental degradation from the start to end. In the
beginning, the film is rather bright. However, deeper into the river, the lights dim, with some
scenes shrouded in nearly complete darkness. At the end of the film, he is seen with a division of
light and shadow on his face, lit on one side; a deliberate effect of Coppola to show his moral
struggle. More prominently, Kurtz death is where we only witness a silhouette of Willard, where
darkness has overtook his psychological

Theories Of What Happened To The Dinosaurs
In this task I will be talking about What Happened to the Dinosaurs? . I will be discussing and
explaining two different theories about how the dinosaur became extinct and see what theory has
more evidence to prove that s how the dinosaurs became extinct.
My First theory is the Asteroid Impact Theory. I choose this theory because it has a lot of evidence
suggesting that this is one way that the dinosaurs became extinct. The asteroid that hit 65 million
years ago was approximately 6 15km in diameter, hit the earth with the force of five billion atomic
bombs. The crater of that asteroid was 180km in diameter, was found buried at Chicxulub in
Mexico in 1990 (Oxford Big Ideas, 2012). That Asteroid wiped out three quarters of a species of

The Thin Line Between Child Abuse And Abuse
The Thin Line Between Disciple and Abuse Child abuser or an unfit parent are the words that come
to mind, followed by disapproving looks and scornful stares, whenever a parent admits to using
corporal punishment. Corporal punishment is an infliction of pain as punishment for unacceptable
behavior, an offense, or wrongdoing. The punishment being administered by the parent or guardian
can range in severity from a pop on the back of the hand to a belt or switch to the heinie. Although
corporal punishmentis a painful means of punishment, the issue here is whether or not it can be
seen as justifiable when it comes to parents choosing to use it as a disciplinary tool at home.

Psychologist Elizabeth Thompson Gershoff, PhD, of the National Center for Children in Poverty at
Columbia University, looked into the positive and negative behaviors that are associated with
corporal punishment. In doing so, she found strong associations between corporal punishment and
the eleven child behaviors and experiences. (Gershoff par.3) Those eleven behaviors and
experiences include, immediate compliance, moral internalization, quality of relationship with
parent, physical abuse from the parent, mental health, aggression, criminal behavior, antisocial
behavior, abuse of own children, and abuse of spouse (Gershoff par.2). Ten of those behaviors are
negative and the only positive behavior is the immediate compliance from the child. Gershoff states
that her findings do not give concrete evidence that all children who have received corporal
punishment have turned out to aggressive or a delinquent. Therefore, there are entirely too many
factors that come in to play. Whether or not the parent and child have a close relationship, if the
parent is able to control their temper while spanking the child, the different forms of corporal
punishment, and etc. However, each parent has their own thought, ideas, and beliefs on how to
discipline their child. The act of corporal punishment itself is different across parents parents vary
in how frequently they use it, how forcefully they administer

Eugenics Perfect Society
Does Eugenics Really Lead to a Perfect Society?
In the perfect world there would be an elimination of disease, discrimination, poverty and many
other horrible aspects of the world, or would there? It is arguable whether or not that type of world
would be perfect because much of the creation of it would be the result of the engineering of human
genes. This concept is called eugenics which is mainly a set of beliefs and practices that aims at
improving the genetic quality of a human population. Some people in the world believe that to
create the perfect population they need to self direct human evolution and modify an individual s
genes. Ultimately, eugenics is a bad idea and should never be carried out. This is because when
trying to genetically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is mainly unethical because it s the same as voluntarily choosing a inheritable trait, its
commanding people to produce a desired phenotypic or genotypic trait which leads into the fact that
reproducing without an interference from a third party being a fundamental freedom. Moreover,
ungenics is morally wrong because it involves sterilizing unfit individuals to prevent them from
passing on their negative traits to offspring. The eugenics movement was actually practiced in the
United States during the 20th century with the government implementing sterilization programs in
33 states. These programs targeted people that were mentally ill, alcoholism, criminality chronic
poverty, blindness, deafness, feeble mindedness and promiscuity and many people that were subject
to these sterilizations had no say in the matter. Identically, eugenics would take part in only letting
people with desirable traits reproduce eliminating the moral obligation of many people to have
children. This just proves that the whole process is

Texting While Driving And Driving
No matter how much effort state governments try to make to avoid people texting while driving,
only so much can be done on the government s and law enforcement s side of the matter.
Different states have different rules. Some outlaw texting while driving when under the age of
21 or 18. Other states have hand held bans on cell phones while some states have an all phone
ban. Law enforcement officers who regulate and enforce traffic matters have to catch the person
in the act of texting while driving. Catching a person in the act is not an easy task to accomplish
as an officer of the law. Even a consistent and national law against texting while driving would
plausibly not solve the calamities. I think the true issue of driving and texting is contingent with
the drivers. Drivers should take heed to statistics, priorities, and lives involved regarding the issue
of texting and driving. Many statistics can prove how texting while driving is a serious problem,
and a majority of the drivers do not realize the risks. Other drivers know the dangers and risks of
texting while driving, but do not have the appearance of caring. Although the amount of casualties
resulting from texting while driving has decreased considerably, there is still a shocking number of
deaths and casualties from this issue. The number of casualties and deaths from texting while
driving have surpassed the number of drunk driving incidents. Drunk driving deaths a year amount
to about 2,700 lives while driving and

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Schizophrenia, And...
The Uninvited is the typical horror thriller style movie. It has a good set of characters, an
intriguing plot and an absolutely crazy ending. It makes for a very entertaining movie for the lay
person to enjoy, but what if someone looks deeper into the movie? This movie is full of twists,
turns, and psychological disorders. The main character in the movie, Anna, witnessed her mother
dying. From this tragic event, she developed multiple psychological disorders. The main three that
this paper will be elaborating on are Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Schizophrenia, and Dissociative
Identity Disorder. All three of these are very serious, but all in there own way. First, there is Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder, also known as PTSD. This is a disease that develops after a terrible
event happens in the victim s life. Some of the main symptoms of PTSD include reliving the
incident, including flashbacks, nightmares and triggers, avoiding the situation including places and
other incidents where they face similar situations, and feeling keyed up, including having a hard
time concentrating and sleeping (Besser 2015). In the movie, the main character, Anna, watches her
family s boathouse explode, killing her mother. This is a tragic event that stuck in her. This event
caused her to have PTSD. Throughout the movie, she has nightmares about the night that she
watched the boathouse explode. When she sees Rachel, her dad s new fiancГ©, this triggers her to
think about the night it all

Troxel Vs. Granville is the case at hand, concerning the lives of two grandchildren who are not
allowed to see their paternal grandparents. Visitation rights is what the grandparents are seeking
to attain. Gary and Jennifer Troxel are both physically and mentally capable of being with their
two grandchildren, but instead have been forbidden by their daughter in law. Brad Troxel, the
father of these two children committed suicide six years ago. The mother forbids visitation
rights at all. To uphold the necessity of compromise, visitation rights must be granted to these
loving, caring, and able grandparents. These children will lose out on a colossal amount of
family history and values unless the Supreme Court rules in favor of the grandparents.
Grandparents may not be a part of the nuclear family (father, mother, and children). However
with the absence of the father they already lack a nuclear family to learn from. A compromise
must be made to save these children and their grandparents from all the grief that is being caused
by the children s mother. This is the only way to uphold this basic foundation. Any person who
sees these examples might worry that the United States of America has simply failed to structure a
sound foundation of democracy for itself. Horrifying as it is, many cases such as the three in this
paper show facts do not lie. Anyone has the capability to see how

  • 4. Similarities Between Catt And Susan B Anthony Woodrow Wilson, Carrie Chapman Catt, and Susan B. Anthony share a common purpose in their addresses advocating women s suffrage.Wilson s Address to the Senate on the Nineteenth Amendment expresses the opinion he holds about the lack of control over women being able to vote; he prioritizes the use of logos to create an argument consisting of present fact and his own belief of how the rest of the world will see them as a nation if they do not ratify the Nineteenth Amendment. Catt s The Crisis analyzes her present issue of the acknowledgement of women s suffrage. Catt explains that through the acknowledgement of women s suffrage, women have been given more freedom, yet not the same equality as men. Catt wants more than just exceptions to social rules, she wants people to understand that a woman is not only an imperative cog in the societal machine, but equality should never be a crisis again. Susan B. Anthonywastes no time getting to the point in On Women s Right to Vote; she instantly begins her speech with a strong denial of allegations thrown her way and moves right in to speak about the government basing a law off the sex of a person and how the government is not treated as a democracy. Through each of these addresses Wilson, Catt, and Anthony are divided by their point of view and united by their cause, yet only Carrie Chapman Catts address holds the most effective reasoning. It seemed as if Lehman Brothers was indestructible. Surviving through the railroad bankruptcies in the 1800 s, the Great Depression of the 1930 s, two world wars, a capital shortage in 1994, and everything in between, it seemed the firm was built to last. However its inevitable end started in the early 2000 s with the housing boom after the repeal of the Glass Steagall act. Over the span of two years, 2003 and 2004, Lehman Brothers acquired a total of five mortgage lenders, including the subprime lender BNC and Alt A loan specialist Aurora Loan. As the housing boom was under way and the firm acquired these large players its Lehman real estate business s capital market revenues cascaded 56% over the next two years 2004 to 2006. The following is a reflection on how the course has impacted me in both learning, expectations as a new leader, and my everyday working life. These results made me feel positive about myself and the direction that I have intended on driving my career towards. • 9. Bystanders In Bullying Alternatives However, teachers are not the only ones helping the victims. Several research studies have looked at the role of bystanders in bullying students. Teachers and students who witness bullying can work together to reduce bullying in schools and classrooms. But there is also evidence that those who were bystanders were not willing to help the victims (Espelage, Green, Polanin, 2012). Students often do not support victims when there are multiple witnesses (Salmicalli, 2010). Students expect someone else to intervene or ignore the victim or may consider the bullying to be a joke ( Terasahjo Salmivalli, 2003). Consequently, bullied victims feel that they are not only suffering pain from being bullied, but also from being ignored by peers (Salmavalli Poskirparta, 2012). ... • 10. Comparison Of The Dictatorship Of Big Brother And The... The dictatorship of Big Brother and the American government, both use similar ways to monitor their citizens, but they have different reasons for it. Big Brother wants to closely monitor his citizens so they are obedient by fear and the American government watches their citizens to protect them and their rights. They do this through televisions, spies and surveillancecameras. In the beginning of the novel 1984, the reader is introduced to how the governmentunder the dictatorship of Big Brother is administrated as well as how it runs its citizens. Not only are the people of Oceania suppressed, but they are also audited through whatever means deemed necessary by the government. They are even watched through their televisions. Because of this the main character, Winston Smith, placed his television on a wall in his house so Winston was able to remain outside the range of the telescreen, so far as sight went. This is where Winston writes his qualms with the government down in a diary. Furthermore, the CIA, has been said to have the capacity to break into our everyday consumer electronics.... The USA Today article goes into further detail by stating that, CIA hackers could break into iPhones, Android phones, PCs running Microsoft Windows and Samsung smart TVs, and exploit the microphones inside such electronics, (TVs are allegedly spying on you, Baig). • 11. Dante s Journey Of Salvation As Dante makes his ascent through hell and purgatory, he is guided by two figures. The first is Virgil, who saves him from peril and accompanies him, as a friend, through the layers of both afterlifes. The second is Beatrice, who inspired Dante s journey of salvation in the first place, and who he longs to be reunited with. Yet although these guides are leading him towards God, Dante mistakes their guiding as the end itself. He makes a God of Beatrice, sees her as the ultimate good towards which one strives, and makes a Jesusof Virgil, the man through whom this ultimate good is reached. In this way, Dante creates his own trinity, much to the detriment of his ascent to the True God. His first mistake, through which the others stem, is equating Beatrice to God. While she was alive, her beautiful eyes and lovely limbs were the only things keeping him on the holy path. This is clear when he confesses Things set in front of me, / with their false delights, turned back my steps / the moment that Your countenance was hidden (Purgatorio.31.34 36). He could have avoided traveling through the afterlifes had he not overvalued her in the first place. In fact, even when he is promised redemption through his journey, it takes Virgil mentioning Beatrice as the end goal of his journey to persuade Dante to begin the undertaking (Inferno.2.57 126). Dante still sees Beatrice, rather than God, as the end towards which he strives. For her sake alone he goes down into the deepest pits of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. What Role Does Nature Play In Icarus What is nature s role in the myth of Icarus and Daedalus? In the short story Icarus and Daedalus and the poem Icarus nature plays a big role when Icarus, Daedalus son, escapes with him by flying but ends up being careless and dies due to the sun. The short story talks about the story of Icarus and Daedaluswhen the poem is about Icarusdeath and what he must have been thinking while plunging to his death. In Icarus and Daedalus by Josephine Preston Peabody, and Icarus by Wendy A. Shaffer, nature exacerbates by having Icarus die in both the short story and poem. To begin, in In Icarus and Daedalus by Josephine Preston Peabody, Icarus is foolish and nature is not on his side, and he ends up flying too close to the sun and dies. Daedalus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shaffer, the poem uses nature against Icarus. This poem is about what it would be like to be Icarus while he was taking his last breath. Was Icarus mad? Was he blaming his father? Was he regretful? These were all questions that were addressed throughout the poem. The mythical poem states, Watching white feathers flutter upward, curse the wax as a fair weathered friend... Did he rail at the sun... he laughed, and admitted that even had he known of the many failings of fathers and feathers, he would have done it anyway (Shaffer 20). This piece of evidence displays the importance of Icarus flying to close to the sun and dying. It shows how he killed himself along with the nature. The nature of the myth and poem plays the role of freedom and death. The feathers signify freedom because of being able to flutter and fly, while the sun signifies death and misfortune. Even though Icarus died, he died being the adventurous foolish person he is. With nature not on his side, it shows how when you do not follow rules, you may end up being in serious trouble even if it was fun. If you get too senseless, you can end up having a big problem. Leo Tolstoy The Three Hermits In the short story The Three Hermits Leo Tolstoy illustrates how faith in God does not derive from the complexity of one s prayer or doctrine, but rather from the simplicity and humbleness in one s heart to be genuinely faithful and all serving to him. The story consists of three religious hermits, who have chosen a life of simplistic isolation. Also, there is this bishop on a pilgrimage to spread the word of god, he hears about these hermits that live on a small island in search of the salvation of their souls (275). As a holy man himself, the priest had no choice but to see these hermits for himself and educate them about true doctrine. The three hermits were men who had sacrifice their entire lives to God. Tolstoy portrays their sacrifice by the men s descriptions. They were extremely old, the fisherman stated that one s must have been at least hundred years old. They were wearing tattered peasant clothes. One was even described to have a beard to his knees. They lived in their humble island without the need of materialistic possessions. They showed no signs of greed, lust, gluttony, they were true men of god. Also, the men showed great humbleness through their charity. He proposed and developed the concepts of the extroverted and introverted personality, archetypes, and the collective unconscious. The issues that he dealt with arose from his personal experiences. For many years Jung felt as if he had two separate personalities. One introverted while the other was extroverted. This interplay results in his study of integration and wholeness. His work has been influential not only in psychology, but in religion and literature as well. Jung was born on July 26, 1875 in Kesswil, Switzerland, the only son of a Protestant clergyman. In order to distinguish between individual psychology and psychoanalysis Jung gave his discipline the name quot;analytical psychology. quot; After a break with the start of WWI, Jung wrote the book quot;Psychological Types quot;. His studies took him across the globe observing many different cultures. He was interested in tracing the analogies between the contents of the unconscious in Western man and the myths, cults, and rituals of primitive peoples. Jungian therapy deals with dreams and fantasies. A discussion is set up between the conscious and the contents of the unconscious. When the therapy works the patient enters an individuation process. This consists of psychological transformations ending in the opposite tendencies working together to achieve personal wholeness. Jung s total amount of work is very large. Barry, author of Rising Tide: The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 and How it Changed America, communicates his fascination with the Mississippi River by using diction, imagery, and syntax. Barry s word choice conveys the mechanical force of the river; his use of imagery the beauty, and his use of syntax the unpredictability. Barry s command of rhetorical devices draws the reader in and brings the Mississippi Riverto life. Using scientific prose, Barry reveals his deep interest in the unusual physical properties of the river. Opponents of legalization also argue the gateway effect, asserting that the younger one begins using marijuana, the more likely he or she will be to use cocaine or heroin as an adult. However, proponents highlight that in 2006, eight out of 10 states where marijuana is legal saw a decrease in teen use of marijuana over a seven year period. In this, both daughter s obedience to father and woman s obedience to man were turned on their heads, revealing that regardless of religious doctrines of male authority, life among the people was much more complex. • 30. Crime And Crime Essay Before the twentieth century, explaining crime followed Darwin, and Lumbroso s idea that criminals were biologically inferior. But with the development of the industry and the urbanization of the late 1800s and 1900s, the Progressive movement arose, arguing that crime was a social product. It was not the individual and its biologically inferior traits that would cause him to commit crime, it is rather the environment that causes people to commit crime. That was the beginning of the Chicago School. Because Chicago witnessed a rapid social change due to industrialization and the sudden urbanization and mass population shift, it became the prime choice to study how social change impacted criminal conduct. Researchers at the University of Chicago believed that crime would be best understood by looking at neighborhood characteristics. Shaw and McKay (1929) were influenced by the Chicago School in that they asked the question does it make a difference if a child grows up in an inner city community affected by ethnic heterogeneity, poverty, and social mobility? The question led to shifting the focus of what causes crime from an individual perspective to a social, environmental perspective. Thus, when studying delinquency and crime, Shaw and McKay (1929) and Burgess (1967) argued that neighborhoods may be the contributing factors to crime and not the individual. In order to grow as a rising society, it is important for people to set aside what their negative beliefs about school integration are if it means a better future for children who otherwise would not have the chance to thrive as they should. B. The Problem We All Live With Part One: A Sociological Analysis: In part one of The Problem We All Live With, we are introduced to many incredible, unforgettable facts about the American school district, facts that are very often overlooked in today s society. Nikole Hannah Jones speaks out about her years reporting on the american education system and the different problems she encountered while doing so. Nikole states that administrators have tried to close the enormous achievement gap between 1971 and 1988 between primarily black and white students that was about forty points. Because most underachieving school districts were mostly black and latino, these problems were often dismissed. School districts were not doing much to help the fact that children in segregated schools, more often than not, had the least experienced teachers, which was a large part of the problem(Cole, 1978: 183). The Normandy school district in Missouri became unaccredited because of how poor the quality of the education was. Because Normandy became an unaccredited school, the transfer law came into effect. The transfer law is a law that gave students in unaccredited school districts the right to transfer to a nearby accredited schools for free (Stephanopoulos, 2016: 403). But is social media actually capable of helping those affected in disasters through the Internet forum? The use of social media during natural calamities at all levels local or international has successfully widened and expressed interest concerning how social media very soon will be used to come in terms with recovery of affected regions and cultural monuments because of disaster. Taking the recent natural disaster, an earthquake with massive magnitude that affected Nepal as an example we examine the benefits of using social media as a platform with its implication in context to natural disasters. Introduction:

  • 35. Essay on Foreclosure Crisis In America It is evident that the housing deficit is just a layer of the many problems we are suffering from during the hard times in our economy. Foreclosure is indeed a horrific word that is haunting homeowners across the US. Because of the situation in the current economy, millions of Americans have been plagued by foreclosing on their homes and are left to find new location for themselves and their families to live. Recently in Detroit, with the efforts to negate the current standings, they provided housing aid. According to the housing statistic, the housing aid drew crowds in Detroit. One in four working age adults in Detroit are without a job and the city s home foreclosure rate continues to be among the nation s highest. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problem is there is inevitably a lack of housing, due to homelessness and influx of people. Without enough housing, the prices of the homes will be very expensive; however, if there is not a balanced mix of luxury and affordable housing, those already living there will be forced to leave because they will not be able to maintain taxes and other increases that will be tacked on to housing expenses. In order to make this process a bit more feasible, New York created the Inclusionary Zoning program. This program required that developers set aside a certain percentage of units in a new development as affordable units. The issue with this zoning ordinance is that although it was stated as a requirement the city kept it as a voluntary process. With the ordinance being voluntary and developers with a capitalist mentality, many developers opted out of adhering to the ordinance. Although the residents of New York may not be in the power broker or decision making classification, many of its inhabitants have been there for many years. Unless there are efforts to make this ordinance mandatory, there will be much opposition to keep new development out. There is by no means a simple solution to solving the home foreclosure epidemic but there are many changes that can be made to help Americans across the globe. The first, I believe starts ... • 36. Burroughs Not Marinetti s Futurist Essay The potentials of the new technology created in the early twentieth century created a variety of reactions with in society. Some people embraced the changes, others resisted the developments, and still others fell somewhere in between. Filippo Tommaso Marinetti s piece, The Futurist Manifesto , embraces the rapid transformation of society. His world is composed of fast, powerful machines and strong, young citizens. The Manifesto also depicts an aggressive, violent, and unjust world that is devoid of any morals. He says, When we are forty let younger and stronger men than we throw us in the waste paper basket like useless manuscripts (4). Just as significant as Carter s significant prowess is his courageous, fearless, and violent demeanor. All of these traits are highly valued in Marinetti s Futurist Manifesto. Nonetheless, this initial glance of Burroughs work is highly deceptive. Though John Carter is violent, he only fights in self defense or in the defense of his dependents like his Martian watchdog, Woola, and his love interest, Dejah Thoris. He exhibits a sense of morals and justice that Marinetti clearly rejects in his manifesto. Burroughs stress on the value of morality is further solidified by the comparison between the Tharks, the green Martians, and the red Martians of Helium. The green Martians are warlike, uncultured, and unjust, which contributes to their backwardness. On the other hand, the red Martians are highly civilized because they show fairness, lawfulness, and love. (transition) Marinetti even states in the Manifesto of Futurism that, Beauty exists only in the struggle. There is no masterpiece that has not an aggressive character. This suits Marinetti s own piece because of the raw, violent, and sexual imagery used to describe the machinery in the future. For example, the reader is confronted with rogue locomotives and hungry, roaring automobiles . Furthermore, Marinetti says that the Futurists want to glorify war because it is the ... • 37. Design Of The Fourth Amendment Design of the Fourth Amendment The Fourth Amendment was not designed to serve as a fixed protection against government abuse. There is no amendment to the Bill of Rights whose contents should be taken at the face value they were written for. Keeping any amendment in its historical context would solidify the amendment as a defense for the historical incidents that occurred in late eighteenth century, rather than a guarantee that law enforcement officers act accordingly in present day. As times change and advances are made to technology, society identifies a need for changes within amendments; specifically the Fourth. Based on the majority opinions of landmark cases by the Supreme Court, we are able to predict where Fourth Amendment law is headed in connection with new technologies. Law is the formal embodiment of rules that legislators, regulators, and judges etch into statute books, administrative manuals, and judicial decisions. It is unavoidable and desirable to see the law change as technology becomes increasingly sophisticated (Larkin 2013). The invention of telecommunications systems in 1875, created a need for a law to protect the integrity of conversations. Likewise, the invention of electronic devices such as car spotlights, electronic listening devices, global positioning systems, and thermal imaging scanners brought upon a validated reason for the public to be concerned. However, it emerged after that time for various reasons that will be explained later on this essay. There were many factors of how youth culture and subculture developed such as: demographic changes, National Service, education and raising the school leaving age, the economic period and music. And these factors also helped shape people s experiences of them. B Demographic changes were the first and one of the reasons why youth culture created such anxiety. Because of survived married soldiers coming back from the Second World War, there was a baby boom , which meant that the number of people under twenty grew from 3 million in 1951 to 4 million in 1966. (Osgerby, 2005) B There were two changes that happened and established youth as a group with certain needs and problems. The first one was Butler s education act of 1944, and that raised the school leaving age from 12 to 14. Further changes were made in 1947 raising it to 15 and 16 in 1972. Which meant that it allowed children to go to secondary school. The second change was the development of youth services such as youth clubs, which made these young people do something useful in their leisure. The film highlights several well known advertisers such as George Lois, Mary Wells Lawrence, Lee Clow, and Hal Riney. This documentary offers insights into the growth of the advertising industry, as well as the shift to creative ads, and the importance of creativity in the advertisingoffices. One of the goals of the advertisers was to make the world seem more colorful. The punishment being administered by the parent or guardian can range in severity from a pop on the back of the hand to a belt or switch to the heinie. Although corporal punishmentis a painful means of punishment, the issue here is whether or not it can be seen as justifiable when it comes to parents choosing to use it as a disciplinary tool at home. Whether or not a parent should spank their child has been quite a controversial... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Psychologist Elizabeth Thompson Gershoff, PhD, of the National Center for Children in Poverty at Columbia University, looked into the positive and negative behaviors that are associated with corporal punishment. In doing so, she found strong associations between corporal punishment and the eleven child behaviors and experiences. (Gershoff par.3) Those eleven behaviors and experiences include, immediate compliance, moral internalization, quality of relationship with parent, physical abuse from the parent, mental health, aggression, criminal behavior, antisocial behavior, abuse of own children, and abuse of spouse (Gershoff par.2). Ten of those behaviors are negative and the only positive behavior is the immediate compliance from the child. Gershoff states that her findings do not give concrete evidence that all children who have received corporal punishment have turned out to aggressive or a delinquent. Therefore, there are entirely too many factors that come in to play. Whether or not the parent and child have a close relationship, if the parent is able to control their temper while spanking the child, the different forms of corporal punishment, and etc. However, each parent has their own thought, ideas, and beliefs on how to discipline their child. The act of corporal punishment itself is different across parents parents vary in how frequently they use it, how forcefully they administer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Eugenics Perfect Society Does Eugenics Really Lead to a Perfect Society? In the perfect world there would be an elimination of disease, discrimination, poverty and many other horrible aspects of the world, or would there? It is arguable whether or not that type of world would be perfect because much of the creation of it would be the result of the engineering of human genes. This concept is called eugenics which is mainly a set of beliefs and practices that aims at improving the genetic quality of a human population. Some people in the world believe that to create the perfect population they need to self direct human evolution and modify an individual s genes. Ultimately, eugenics is a bad idea and should never be carried out. This is because when trying to genetically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is mainly unethical because it s the same as voluntarily choosing a inheritable trait, its commanding people to produce a desired phenotypic or genotypic trait which leads into the fact that reproducing without an interference from a third party being a fundamental freedom. Moreover, ungenics is morally wrong because it involves sterilizing unfit individuals to prevent them from passing on their negative traits to offspring. The eugenics movement was actually practiced in the United States during the 20th century with the government implementing sterilization programs in 33 states. These programs targeted people that were mentally ill, alcoholism, criminality chronic poverty, blindness, deafness, feeble mindedness and promiscuity and many people that were subject to these sterilizations had no say in the matter. Identically, eugenics would take part in only letting people with desirable traits reproduce eliminating the moral obligation of many people to have children. This just proves that the whole process is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 58. Texting While Driving And Driving No matter how much effort state governments try to make to avoid people texting while driving, only so much can be done on the government s and law enforcement s side of the matter. Different states have different rules. Some outlaw texting while driving when under the age of 21 or 18. Other states have hand held bans on cell phones while some states have an all phone ban. Law enforcement officers who regulate and enforce traffic matters have to catch the person in the act of texting while driving. Catching a person in the act is not an easy task to accomplish as an officer of the law. Even a consistent and national law against texting while driving would plausibly not solve the calamities. I think the true issue of driving and texting is contingent with the drivers. Drivers should take heed to statistics, priorities, and lives involved regarding the issue of texting and driving. Many statistics can prove how texting while driving is a serious problem, and a majority of the drivers do not realize the risks. Other drivers know the dangers and risks of texting while driving, but do not have the appearance of caring. Although the amount of casualties resulting from texting while driving has decreased considerably, there is still a shocking number of deaths and casualties from this issue. The number of casualties and deaths from texting while driving have surpassed the number of drunk driving incidents. Drunk driving deaths a year amount to about 2,700 lives while driving and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Troxel Vs. Granville is the case at hand, concerning the lives of two grandchildren who are not allowed to see their paternal grandparents. Visitation rights is what the grandparents are seeking to attain. Gary and Jennifer Troxel are both physically and mentally capable of being with their two grandchildren, but instead have been forbidden by their daughter in law. Brad Troxel, the father of these two children committed suicide six years ago. The mother forbids visitation rights at all. To uphold the necessity of compromise, visitation rights must be granted to these loving, caring, and able grandparents. These children will lose out on a colossal amount of family history and values unless the Supreme Court rules in favor of the grandparents. Grandparents may not be a part of the nuclear family (father, mother, and children). However with the absence of the father they already lack a nuclear family to learn from. A compromise must be made to save these children and their grandparents from all the grief that is being caused by the children s mother. This is the only way to uphold this basic foundation. Any person who sees these examples might worry that the United States of America has simply failed to structure a sound foundation of democracy for itself. Horrifying as it is, many cases such as the three in this paper show facts do not lie. Anyone has the capability to see how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
