Prison Population In The United States
Prison Population
Over the last decade the prison population in the United States has increased but the total admissions
has decreased. In 2004, the national statistics for the prison population showed 1,497,100 persons to
be incarcerated from Federal Institutions to State Institutions. Ten years later in 2014, the prison
population increased to 1,562,525. This increase in population is not as dramatic when it comes to
comparing 2004 and 2014. However, comparing 2014 to 1978 there is a tremendous increase in
population, the total population in 1978 was 307, 276. From the war on drugs to the increase numbers
of homicides, in 36 years we have incarcerated over one million additional people. In one year, the
justice system admitted 631, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

number of prisoners in the American prison system. Each argot shows the behavior of the prisoner
when he comes in contact with other fellow prisoners. The following are five examples of argots that
Jack Abbott came in contact with while in the prison

The Problem Of The Crisis Of Bundelkhand Region Is...
Based on the analysis, certain problems and policy formulations regarding various issues prevailing in
Bundelkhand region is pointed out. In general Bundelkhand region is affected by the menace of
droughts since over a decade. As the article emphasise that the major reason behind the grief and
catastrophe in the region is drought followed by flood, hailstorm and irregularity in rainfall. But
ecological and environmental factors alone are not responsible for the crisis in the region. There are
other reasons such as failure of government programmes which has been applied for mitigating
drought and other programmes related to nutrition and food security. Thus government cannot simply

For overcoming the problem related to PDS one should give emphasis to universal public distribution
system as in other state of India such as Kerala, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu instead of targeted
public distribution system (TPDS). The reason is, in TPDS one has to target the beneficiaries to find
out who deserves BPL category and who deserves APL category and it is in the process of targeting
where the biasness and corruption starts. But when the distribution system becomes universal means
everyone is eligible corruption declines because it reduces the power of authorities to do corruption
through colluding and divergence and leakage of foodgrains also decline manifold. Moreover, rich
will be automatically excluded because he do not have enough times to come to the ration shop, stand
in line and wait for his turn to purchase the grain but real poor can wait for its turn.
Since major portion of population in the region is rural and is dependent on agriculture in one way or
the other and when drought occurs their livelihood is severely hampered. Thus there must be some
substitute work so that the people can earn their livelihood. As far as industrialisation is considered
this region is the most poor though it is very rich in resource availability. In comparison with other
parts of the state Bundelkhand region have only 1.5 per cent of

Diabetes Mellitus As A Metabolic Disease
Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disease; when the body struggles to produce any or enough insulin
(Mayo Clinic, 2015). Lack of insulin causes elevated levels of glucose in the blood. Today it is
common to hear Diabetes Mellitus referred to as Sugar or Diabetes . Diabetes can be distinguished
into two forms; type one and type two. Diabetes is one of the ten leading cause of death in the United
States. There is a wide range of risk factors that contribute to this metabolic disease. For example;
genetics, poor diet, race, or a combination of these factors can be a contribution to the specific disease.
There is no cure for diabetes type one or two, but it can be treated. Today s society is to blame for the
risen cases of diabetes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is usually diagnosed during adulthood after the age of forty, but today it has been found among
children. It is commonly found among children today, because of the rise of obese children. Many
people may suffer from diabetes type two, but are unaware of it. This is because unlike diabetes type
one; individuals with type two does not show any symptoms. It is believed that type two diabetes is a
may also be a hereditary factor, but it is generally found in obese, sedentary adults, people
experiencing pregnancy, and stress are predisposing factors. Both diseases are equally as dangerous
they can lead to the amputation of limbs, heart disease, or loss of eyesight (WebMD, 2015). Diabetes
is considered to be prevalent among today s society; it falls seventh of the ten leading causes of death
in the United States. As recent as the year 2012 statistics shows 21.0 million Americans have been
diagnosed with diabetes while approximately 8.1 million individuals remain undiagnosed, according
to (American Diabetes Association). In the year of 2010, diabetes was found among approximately
303,122 deaths alone. Statistics shows the rates of diagnoses of diabetes are relatively high among
American Indians/ Alaskan Natives, Non Hispanic blacks, and Hispanics. American Indians/Alaskan
Natives represent a 15.9% diagnosed with diabetes while Non Hispanic Blacks represent 13.2% and
Hispanics representing 12.8% (American Diabetes Association).

Welter Weight of Plant Growing
Welter Weight of plant growing: Water VS other liquids
Purpose of Project The purpose of this project is to see if there is a difference in how plants grow
based on what they are watered with. By watering five different plants with five different liquids and
measuring them daily we will prove or disprove the hypothesis.
Problem of the Project Different liquids contain different additives and nutrients that could potentially
affect the growth of a plant. This project will reveal how different liquids affect the growth of plants.
Various research has been done that will support the problem of what liquid can stimulate the growth
of a plant more successfully. By measuring each plant after watering them with the six liquids, the ...

The water container had the most growth and produced two plants one on day 7 and one on day 8
which indicated both seeds had germinated. Each plant produced one leaf (both on day 10). The leaves
were light green in color and had a firm texture.
The milk container was the only other container that had any growth at all. On day 11, one sprout
appeared and curled up from the soil; however, the stem never emerged and by day 13, it had died. No
other pot produced a plant.
Processed Data:
Data Analysis:
Given the information, the only liquid good for the bean seeds was the water. Plant growth day 11 The
major result of this experiment was that water was the only liquid that would produce a bean plant.
Milk did germinate a seed, but was unable to support the growth of the plant. No other liquids used in
the experiment produced a bean sprout.
Research Conclusion:
In the hypothesis, the purpose of the experiment was to discover a liquid that provided the best plant
growth. When the experiment started, it was hypothesized there would

s Search For Meaning In Herman Hesse s Siddhartha
The most important aspect of finding meaning in an individual s life is that the motivation to do so
comes intrinsically, not extrinsically. In Man s Search for Meaning, author Viktor Frankl asserts the
idea of will to meaning, which is essentially the desire to find meaning and purpose in an individual s
life (Frankl 99). Frankl explains that this intrinsic desire to find meaning acts the primary motivational
force in man, and it is essential for survival (Frankl 99). He supports this idea by citing a survey in
which when asked what was important, 16% of students answered making a lot of money , while 78%
said finding a purpose and meaning to my life (Frankl 100). This idea of finding meaning intrinsically,
as opposed to extrinsically in the material world, is further explored in Herman Hesse s Siddhartha.
The protagonist of the journey, Siddhartha, decides to leave teachers early on in his journey, knowing
that he will find enlightenment through his own experiences and inner voice, and not through words
and practices that are imposed on him by external sources. The contrast between intrinsic and extrinsic
guidance is emphasized in several instances in the novel, one of them being when he intrinsically
rejects his indulgent life in the material world. Afterwards, he praises himself for having heard the bird
in [his] breast sing and followed it (Hesse 98). Hesse utilizes the symbol of the bird in his breast to
represent Siddhartha s inner voice, thus showing that

Nba 2k Game Research Paper
I Andre Winters have always wanted to play in the NBA. I have bought all of the NBA 2k games they
have, but this one has never done this to me. On January, 5th 2016 the newest game out in stores had
just came out. I am determined to get it no matter what I have to do. I had asked my mom if she would
take me to go get the game, and she said she would. We got to the store, and we looked at the price.
Oh my goodness this game was a ninety dollar game. My mom strongly told me that if she bought this
game then I would be doing chores for a month straight. Chores weren t so bad so I took the chance in
the game, and did my chores. On the way home all I did was stare straight at the game in the case. We

I walked to it, and all the sudden I was in a white jersey, and it read elite. The arena was wooden floor,
and many many fans were filling the seats. I was wondering still where I was. I seen many of the NBA
superstars like Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, and Lebron James on the sideline seats. My name
was finally called over from somewhere. It was the bench with all other white jerseys in a huddle. I
ran over to the huddle, and seen many of the NBA rookies like D angelo Russell, Karl Anthony
Towns, and Jahlil Okafor. I gathered in the huddle, and our coach was speaking about our game plan. I
was so confused on where I was still. Until D angelo Russell announced, welcome to my career! My
eyes opened so wide with a surprised face. The scoreboard went off which told us the game was about
to begin.
The jump ball went to us the Elites, and I was at point guard position, while D angelo was at shooting
guard. I passed the ball to him on a fast break and lead him to a nice two point slam. The game was
close the whole game, but then finally the shot clock read twenty seconds. The Stars had the ball, and
were coming down the court. All I would hear was the squeaking shoes from the sticky floor. There
best shooter took a three point shot for the lead. He missed and D angelo got the rebound, which lead
an outlet pass to me. I ran down the court dribbling with the clock at five seconds. I look to my left,

Ethnography Of The Blue House
Ethnography of the Blue House : Plano Day Labor Center While making the drive on my way to
school, my father decides to take a short detour to go pay his worker. It is early in the morning and
still very grey outside which facilitated my usual slumber. This detour meant nothing more to me than
simply that of a detour, but it wasn t until I was suddenly awaken by the car being strangely rocked
like that of a small raft in the sea. Being nearly eight years old, I m instantly on high alert and very
confused. There is a man in the passenger seat saying hello to me as my dad pays him for a honest day
s worth in a moving job the day before, but surrounding the car are about 25 men eagerly trying to
speak with my father. Not only was my early morning routine nap disrupted, I truly believed I woke
up to a nightmare. As we drove away, my dad laughed telling me to say goodbye to the blue house.
After this experience, I simply stated to my dad that I would never return to this place ever again. I
was legitimately horrified and pledged to never return. As a kid, I could simply decide to ignore and
choose to not care for what I had witnessed, but as I grew up, curiosity and acquired knowledge
promoted awareness. I simply became intrigued, and decided to confront a childhood fear. I was not
expecting for this fear to then transform into compassion, but while gaining exceedingly more
information, I have grown a profound interest that I believe needs to be exposed to in our society.

Fox Talbot s The Open Door
Is a photograph worth more than just words? Absolutely. The visual choices made by a photographer
delivers powerful messages, and in W.H.F. Talbot s photo titled The Open Door, I see a picture that
utilizes shadows and light to emphasize the subject. The word photography means writing with light.
With the invention of calotype, Fox Talbot started the revolution of modern photography in today s
world.
Trained as a mathematician and chemist, Fox Talbot toyed with photography because it offered a form
of documentation or evidence of his findings in science. Thus, photography developed from within the
area of science. As he searched for a reasonable method of transferring his captured image onto paper,
Fox Talbot coated paper with a solution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But I see the shadows and light as inviting me into the room. In many cultures, people view a doorway
as a symbolic boundary between life and death, but because the door is open, I can see hope, not death
and darkness. Even though the vines and darkness within the room create a kind of creepy feeling, the
picture is inviting and appealing while emphasizing a mystery and uncertainty. The old blocks used to
construct the building along with the rustic door, and primitive broom indicates a time back in history.
In the center of the photograph, the vertical frame of the doorway appears in contrast to the diagonal
shadows, but I see a relationship between the angled broom which is leaning and the shadow on the
door. The angles and shadows contrast with the balanced lantern on the outside wall which reflects
light. Similar to the genre of Dutch paintings of the time, Fox Talbot characterized the scenes of daily
life of the ordinary people. The photograph presents an old building bathed in light, while the interior
is dark and shadowy. The scientist turned artist uses symmetry to accent the open doorway. The works
of Fox Talbot established photography as an art. This early photograph s genre is that it depicts the
simple side explicitly imitating the Dutch paintings of scenes from everyday life and an interest in the
ordinary things around him. The artist

Poverty and Underdevelopment of India
Health education linkages inequality in distribution of stock of human capital means underinvestment
on the one hand and mal investment on the other, as total and per capita stocks of human capital
figures in women and backward castes indicate. Perhaps, the main reason lies in the failure of human
investment revolution in economic thought to really revolutionize common thinking. individuals as
well as state policy makers still perceive education expenditure as consumption and as a burden on the
state which reduces public savings. it is misleading to treat public expenditures of backward castes
and women as welfare but must be treated as capital formation .
Poverty and underdevelopment of India does not permit adequate investment in general, including
education. From the private angle, weaker sections who should invest more in education have their
present consumption needs focusing on survival where education is perceived as luxury. Even if
people took loans, they prefer investment in more tangible and resale able assets which yield higher
ROR in short gestation periods to investment in human capital. The state is constrained by its
available resources and by its welfare expenditure approach to education. Further, the capital market is
too poorly organized to provide funds for investment in education. Thus to bring equity in distribution
of human capital between different groups serious efforts have to be made towards reducing
discrimination in schooling, improving

Goals and Strategies of the Civil Rights Movement Essay
African American Civil Rights Movement Throughout the 1960 s, the widespread movement for
African American civil rights had transformed in terms of its goals and strategies. The campaign had
intensified in this decade, characterized by greater demands and more aggressive efforts. Although the
support of the Civil Rights movement was relatively constant, the goals of the movement became
more high reaching and specific, and its strategies became less compromising. African Americans
struggle for equality during the 1960 s was a relentless movement that used change for progress. In
essence, the transformation of the Civil Rights Movement throughout the 1960 s forwarded the

We want to see the cooperative concept applied in business and banking. We want... The excerpt reads
further as a long dissertation of specific goals of the organization, which include black participation in
government and economy, defiance against profiteers of slums, and the overall shift to a socialist
America. In the socialist train of thought, society is invested in the integrity and economic
participation of its people, and, therefore, blacks become almost invaluable to America. Here, each
individual is seen as vital to the nation, because, if not, then the whole foundation of the socialist
philosophy collapses. And so, it is implied in this document that a change for a new system of
government in a new America is needed, which greatly contrasts from simply making people aware of
a perfect world with guaranteed civil rights. Another significant transformation took place in the Civil
Rights Movement in terms of its strategies. In analyzing this facet of the movement, we notice a great
shift from nonviolent demonstration to forward, forceful action. Specifically, at the start of the Civil
Rights Movement, lunch counter sit ins were evident throughout the nation, as were Freedom Riders.
Starting in Greensboro, North Carolina at a luncheonette called Woolworths, young black citizens

Fallingwater Vs Kentuck Knob Essay
Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob are two beautiful homes built by a man known as an architectural
genius, Frank Lloyd Wright. These houses have gained such notoriety in the architectural world that
both were named as National Historic Landmarks. The houses are located very close to each other
resting in the beautiful Allegheny Mountains of Fayette County in Southwestern Pennsylvania.
Fallingwater is approximately 43 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. This home was built partly over a
waterfall on Bear Run in the Laurel Highlands. The house was built between 1936 and 1939 for Edgar

Kentuck Knob is located on Chestnut Ridge which is similarly situated in the winding roads of the
Allegheny Mountains. Kentuck Knob overlooks the fantastic view of the Youghiogheny River gorge

Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob were intentionally designed alike and have many similarities but
some notable differences as well. They were both built in the Allegheny Mountains of Fayette County.
The natural landscape and architectural style was described by Wright as organic and have a natural
feel and style to match its surroundings. Both homes are integrated into the scenic and beautiful
landscape of the land. Fallingwater sits low in the valley of over the stream, but looks dramatic from
further downstream. The house has large terraces, and some of them stick straight out and hang over
the waterfall. There are very strong horizontal and vertical lines in the design of the house which
resembles the horizontal and vertical lines in the rock formations and other natural features.

was built with the stones found in the area. The waterfall

Many children and young people have endless access to the internet or the use of a mobile phone. The
internet, mobile phones and even video games all have a number of benefits; however, they also hold
a great number of risks for children and young people.
In 2008, The Byron Review, by Dr Tanya Byron reported on the risks to children and young people
from the exposure to potentially harmful or inappropriate content on the internet, and issued guidance
on how they should be protected.
Because no one can fully remove the bad stuff from the internet and make it completely safe, steps are
put in place to ensure that children and young people are somewhat safe whilst browsing:
Blocking access to inappropriate or unsuitable sites.
Limiting time spent on the computer/video game.
Making children and young people of the dangers on the internet.
Helping children and young people to know how to identify and recognise the dangers.
Educating parents and cares about the risks and danger and how to handle them.

Analysis Of River Out Of Eden And The Art Of War
It is difficult to argue whether strategy is an art form or science because it can actually be both. Sun
Tzu s text, The Art of War is an example of an ancient humanism text about strategies of war.
Humanism by definition is, an outlook or system of thought attaching prime importance to human
rather than divine or supernatural matters. Humanist beliefs stress the potential value and goodness of
human beings, emphasize common human needs, and seek solely rational ways of solving human
problems (Dictionary.com). Therefore, humanism is much like philosophy which is related to science
yet influenced by the skill of art. Thomas Cleary starts off the text with a quote from The Book of
Balance and Harmony which states, To know after seeing is not worthy of being called knowing (qtd.
in Cleary, xv xvi), but since Sun Tzu s teachings are philosophical the text renders itself as war
knowledge. In River Out of Eden: A Darwinian View of Life , author and biologist Richard Dawkins
would greatly disagree with Cleary s quote because Dawkins believes that, Scientific beliefs are
supported by evidence, and they get results (Dawkins 33). According to Dawkins, Darwinism has the
power to explain natural occurrences in the universe and his mission is to disprove supernatural views
of creation and the world with observable scientific knowledge. Although, military strategies are
intuitive there are also observable scientific aspects to the art of war which follow the scientific
method.

Cultural Eutrophication
Eutrophication, the enrichment of aquatic environments with excess nutrients, is a naturally occurring
phenomenon characterized by excessive plant and algae growth. Eutrophication initially increases
productivity and limits light penetration, and subsequently results in reduced growth, depleted
inorganic carbon, and anoxic dead zones (Chislock, Doster, Zitomer, Wilson, 2013). Historically,
primary productivity has been considered limited by an individual nutrient (Gooddy et al., 2016).
Schindler (1974) established the highly influential paradigm that phosphorus (P) is generally
considered limiting in freshwater environments. However, this has been subject to debate by evidence
of freshwater nitrogen (N) limitation, N/P co limitation, and the role of spatial and temporal variation
(Xu, Paerl, Qin, Zhu, Gao, 2010; Hundey, Moser, Longstaffe, Michelutti, Hladyniuk, 2014) Cultural
eutrophication, resulting from anthropogenic nutrient pollution, and has increased in both frequency
and intensity over the past century due to intensification of agriculture, industry and sewage disposal
(Schindler, 1974). The causes and consequences of eutrophication are important to study because of
the resulting direct and indirect effects on ecosystems alongside societal impacts (Chrislock et al.,
2013). Further, the importance of this research should be emphasized in the context of climate change,
human population growth and the associated environmental consequences of the 21st century.

The Family And Medical Leave Act
Throughout time and history women are perceived as a housewife, mothers, and givers; while men are
breadwinners, fathers, and receivers. Women have strived to change this stereotype for years, and
while sometimes this stereotype disappears for a subtle moment, it always will resurface. Especially,
when it comes to maternity leave. Men and women are given an equal amount of time to care for a
newborn, but somehow the father returns to work in a matter of days. Why is that, you may ask? It is
because America has generalized American into their known stereotype. And because of this, we see
men returning to the workforce in a short amount of time. Men, along with women, should have a paid
extension from the Family and Medical Leave Act to care for their child, create the bonding link
between child and parent, while tearing down the stereotypical assumption wall between man and
woman. In the United States, maternity leave is considering under the Family and Medical Leave Act.
The Family and Medical Leave Act was constructed by the U.S. Department of Labor in 1993. This
act states, an eligible employee shall be entitled to a total of 12 workweeks of leave during any 12
month period for one or more of the following: (A) Because of the birth of a son or daughter of the
employee and in order to care for such son or daughter. (B) Because of the placement of a son or

Analysis Of European Commission Sponsored Information...
The authors conducted both a qualitative and content analysis of European Commission sponsored
information pamphlets and campaigns aimed at general European audiences. The results reveal a
consistent neo liberal message. Interestingly, the authors found the origin of this message in an ovular
report by Évelyne Sullerot in 1970 on the dangers of women staying out of the labor market. The
Sullerot report determined that women s entry into the workforce was necessary for the economic
growth of the European Union as a way to create a competitive economy, growth overall, and to
combat an aging population and a dwindling labor supply. This message is echoed throughout the next
thirty years of the EU s informational campaign aimed at society in general and women in particular.
Furthermore, in the EU s promotional materials exhorting women to work, there is no pretense that the
push for equality is for women s benefit. Instead, the materials explain that equality is a pre condition
for economic growth. Additionally, social welfare policy is not to benefit society or even the ill and
infirmed, but to allow women entry into the work force. By the same token, the emphasis on work/life
balance and encouraging men to do an increased share of housework is framed as a way to get women
out of the house and into the work force. The section begins with an overview of the research
approach, and a discussion of the Sullerot report followed by analyses of the subsequent EU
information

still using stone tools, while the Fertile Crescent had steel weapons and tools. Geography will
determine which civilizations will develop ahead of others. Some aspects that show how unequal the
world is are, domesticated animals, location, the crops certain places can grow, which civilizations
become immune to germs, and who can make steel. Geography controls climate, which determines
what crops can grow and what domesticated animals can live there. If civilizations have easy to
harvest, nutritious crops and domesticated animals they will have have enough time to have specialists
that create inventions like steel. Another thing domesticated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Spanish were able to develop immunity to smallpox because they were close to their animals and
slowly got exposed to it overtime. The Inca did not obtain immunity because the only domesticated
animal they had was the llama. The llama didn t 4 give them immunity because the Incas were not
close to them, one reason is because they did not milk the llama. This resulted in no exposure to
smallpox. So when the Spanish came into contact with the Inca and accidentally brought smallpox, the
Inca fell ill. The immunity to smallpox made the Spanish incredibly powerful and the Inca very weak
and easy for the Spanish to conquer them. 95% of the Inca ended up dying. Even though the Incas had
a couple million people the Spanish were able to take over with only about 160 people. Geographic
location determines the crops that can grow where and what domesticated animals can live there. With
nutritious crops and domesticated animals civilizations can have specialists that have time to create
new inventions like steel. And with the steel and immunity

The Six Different Type of Energy
This report is on energy. Energy is the strength and vitality required for sustained physical or mental
activity. What that was saying is that for everything you want to do, you have to have the physical
ability and the mind set to do it. Energy and work are the two most important things in human society.
Work is activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a purpose or result. That
means, is you want something done, DO IT. Kinetic energy is energy that a body possesses by virtue
of being in motion. Potential energy is the energy possessed by a body by virtue of its position relative
to others, stresses within it, electric charge, and other factors. Mechanical energy is mechanical energy
is the sum of potential energy and kinetic energy. It is the energy associated with the motion and
position of an object.
The six different types of energy are thermal, electrical, nuclear, chemical, sound, and light. Thermal
push is the part of the total electric potential energy and kinetic energy of an object or sampling of
matter that results in the system temperature. Electrical vigor is the energy carried by moving
electrons in an electric music director. It cannot be seen, but it is one of our most useful strains of
energy because it is relatively easy to transmit and use. All topics consist of atom, and every atom
contains one or more electrons, which are always moving. The energy released during nuclear fission
or fusion, extrasensory perception. When

In general species alter biodiversity one of the example of human activity is the land use change.
Human transformed a percentage between 40 50 of the ice free land surface and also also changing
prairies, forest and wetland into agricultural and urban system. The other example is by adding a
species to the population and that has effect to other species in the area.
2) Why is it important to take species evenness into consideration rather than just species richness?
Since evenness species respond more rapidly to human activity than the richness species and because
also because they have important consequences to the ecosystems long before species threatened

The Water Seeker By Amos Kincaid
Amos Kincaid was born to Delilah Kincaid in November 1833. Jake Kincaid, a trapper and dowser
was the father of Amos, and left every couple of months to continue trapping. He would return in the
later months to visit Amos, for Delilah died giving birth and Jake wasn t prepared to raise him. For the
first majority of his life, Amos was raised by his aunt Rebecca and his uncle Gil. Rebecca was kind
hearted but couldn t bear children. Over time Rebecca taught Amos to read and write, along with some

Securing the Quality of Data
2.3 Securing the quality of data
Adopting explicit evaluation criteria increases the transparency of the research and provides the
researcher with the means to highlight the strengths and limitations of that particular research
(Eriksson, P., Kovalainen, A., 2008). According to Eriksson, P., Kovalainen, A. (2008), one of the
reasons that lead to a poor quality research is when a qualitative research is assessed with the help of
evaluation criteria adopted from quantitative research and vice versa. Conducting a quantitative
research requires gathering data from a large number of samples whereas in qualitative research,
generally, data is collected from a relatively smaller number of participants and the focus is on
understanding the participants social world in depth through probing, asking questions and case
studies. When conducting a qualitative research, the question shouldn t be How many interviews do I
need to do to get my theory accepted ? According to Eriksson, P., Kovalainen, A. (2008), by asking
this question, the logic of quantitative acceptability enters into qualitative research. As mentioned
earlier, assessing a qualitative research with the evaluation criteria adopted from quantitative research
leads to a poor quality research and vice versa. Instead, when evaluating qualitative research as a good
quality research, the focus should be on the materials obtained from the interviews, quality of the
interviews and the logic through which a researcher makes

Essay On The Iran Nuclear Deal
Of late, it seems as though one cannot turn on the news without hearing about the threat of North
Korea and its nuclear weapons. Indeed, the country has been repeatedly testing their weapon
capabilities, and this has made the rest of the world quite nervous. Indeed, recent tests show that the
North Korean missiles could reach parts of the United States. The options for dealing with North
Korea appear quite bleak, and President Trump s stance on the situation is unclear. Trump and Kim
Jong Un have traded insults over Twitter, and the situation seems certain to lead to a catastrophic war.
However, rather than rush into war, it may be prudent to examine the recent nuclear diplomacy
process with Iran, and see if similar negotiations could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These sanctions were, at least in part, responsible for bringing Iran to the Geneva conference to begin
negotiations. These negotiations, which took place between Iran and the members of the P5+1
comprised of the five permanent members of the UN Security council, joined by Germany over the
course of several years, resulted in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in July of 2015.
The JCPOA would entail lifting sanctions on Iran, in return for restrictions on the Iranian nuclear
program. The deal requires Iran to give up many of its centrifuge and much of its uranium stockpile,
while also limiting the level of uranium enrichment, and where enrichment can occur. Furthermore,
Iran agreed to allow inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to check the
declared nuclear sites at any time. Under the terms of the JCPOA, Iran is unlikely to be able to
develop weaponized nuclear technology, helping to head off nuclear competition in the unstable
Middle East, and, hopefully, preventing nuclear proliferation. Had a deal not been struck, a
weaponized nuclear program in Iran would have forced the Saudis to develop nuclear weapons in
response. It is important to note that, the nuclear deal does not prohibit Iran from developing ballistic
missiles, but the UN Security Council resolution endorsing the deal called upon Iran to refrain from
testing ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons and

how popular Williamette Valley is, the valley has remained mostly small scale, and attracts a different

The crash of Polish Air Force Tu 154 transporting the Polish Delegation on 10 April 2010 on the
Russian Federation s Territory
Introductory Memorandum
Rapporteur: Mr Robert NEILL, United Kingdom, European Conservatives Group
1. Introduction
1. On the 10 April 2010, a Tupolev Tu 154M aircraft was carrying the Polish State delegation, led by
President Lech Kaczyński, to Smolensk Russia to attend a ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of
the Katyn Massacre. The plane crashed, killing all the 96 passengers on board. The fatalities included

4. This outcome was seen as controversial by Polish civil society groups, as well as some independent
governmental bodies and international observers, mostly because of the allegedly questionable manner
in which the investigation was conducted and the legal manoeuvrings that took place immediately
after the accident.
5. On 13 April 2010, Vladimir Putin, as the Head of the State Commission, delegated the general
supervision of the technical investigation to the Chairperson of the Interstate Aviation Committee (
IAC ). In addition, the decision was made to conduct the investigation of the crash in compliance with
Annex 13 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation instead of by using the rules laid out in the
1993 Polish Russian Agreement that regulates military aviation in the airspace of both contracting
states.
6. Over five years have passed after the accident, and the Russian Federation still maintains possession
of the plane wreckage, the black boxes with original flight data recordings and other material
evidence.
2. Background Legislation
2.1 Choice of the governing legal regime
7. From a legal point of view the choice of juridical regime covering the investigations is complex and
leaves room for interpretation. Three days after the accident, the two state parties involved debated
which legal regime applies. The first obvious choice would have been the 1993 Polish Russian
Agreement, regulating military flights in the two

Why I Started Middle School Essay
Whenever I first began middle school, I was well aware of the new and divergent obstacles I would
come across. The classes would become more advanced, teachers more strict, and lunches more
disgusting. During my 6th grade year, this change became clear. As my homework was piling up, so
was my stress. Balancing school, sports, and family time had never been an unchallenging task, but I
never have and never will let that be the reason for my grades to drop. The immense amount of effort I
put into school is one consistent quality I possess that will never disintegrate, as opposed to what one
teacher said. Sometime during my 6th grade year, parent teacher conferences were arriving. I was used
to them at this point. I was expecting my mom to come home from the conference and give me the
same report from my teachers as usual that I worked hard, received good grades, and was a well
behaved student. However, this time, I heard entirely different feedback. When my mom walked into
the kitchen that evening, where I was doing homework, she gave me a funny look. She was grinning,
but still looked puzzled.
Minorly concerned, I asked her, How did the parent teacher conferences go?
She quickly responded, Your sisters meetings went great, as usual.
Right after she said that, she went silent. I wondered why she was not mentioning anything about her
meeting with my teacher, Mr. Frick. I became very anxious, even though I could not recall a time
when Mr. Frick had gotten

The Importance Of Freedom Of Religion By Nicaragua
Nicaragua is a country full of colorful culture and ancient traditions blended in with modern beliefs.
However, religious practices of the community would not be the same without the democratizing of
the religion in Nicaragua. The revolution which overthrew the president at the time also caused a
conflict between the popular church at the time and the church hierarchy, but it was worth the conflict.
Religious freedom has been protected by their constitution since 1939, this is not an unusual
occurrence. There is a numerous amount of different religions such as Jewish, Muslim, Mormon,
Mennonites, Jehovah s Witness, Baha is, Evangelical, Moravian , and more. The most prominent

No matter the number of religions, the Indigenous people on the coast are allowed their own practices

Though the people are varied, the government does seem to favor the Roman Catholic religion. In no
way does it seem to interfere in government affairs, though it might be viewed that way. People trust
the Catholic bishops in coming to important state occasions. Whatever the bishops may say in the
matter of national issues they are closely followed. Saints are seen by Nicaraguans as intercessors
between god and humans, patron saints are even thrown festivals in which they are paraded through
the cities. The Catholic church in general has great historical presence in Nicaragua and the
government treats it as so. But sometimes there can be a fall out in religion and government. At this
time in fact, the Roman Catholics are attempting to make schools buy religious textbooks. This was
not viewed well by the Protestants. Public schools still pursue a system without teaching religion.
Private schools however take and teach all religions. Up until the revolution, Nicaragua had the same
family in their presidential reign for 43 years. The last family member of this dynasty was Anastasio
Somoza Debayle. During his presidency from 1974 1979, there was much uproar between religion and
education. When he was removed from office by the FSLN was when people started to put

Republican Wisconsin Senator, Joseph R. Mccarthy Essay
Republican Wisconsin senator, Joseph R. McCarthy, was originally a quiet senator who was fairly
unknown and had done nothing extraordinary previous to 1950. The senator changed all that when he
delivered a speech in February 1950, in which he leveled allegations that the State Department
employed numerous Communists. He claimed to possess a list of these Communist employees,
although that list was never produced (Tindall, George Brown, and David Emory Shi). Senator
McCarthy s attempt to gain publicity with his outlandish accusations worked. Since the first Red Scare
years before the fifties, many Americans continued to be terrified of Communists and their potential
ability to corrupt and overrun America. Senator McCarthy played on these fears, and he continued to
claim communism had infiltrated every aspect of America; politics, culture and all of American
society. Because of the similarity of events from the first Red Scare, this time period of the early
fifties in America is often called the second Red Scare. The second Red Scare in America s history
actually began in the late forties, previous to McCarthy s emergence in 1950, and it continued on
throughout the fifties lasting at least a dozen years (Storrs, Landon R. Y.) McCarthy s short era during
the second Red Scare actually lasted only four years, but because of his outspoken and arrogant
persona, as well as his ability to inflict fear and persecution on innocent people, this entire span of
time went down in the

Film Analysis Of The Critique Of William Shakespeare
The playwright is William Shakespeare. The director is Melissa Chalsma. The actors are: Duke
Vincento, later in disguise, as Friar Lodovico is David Melville. Angelo, his chosen deputy is William
Elsman. Isabella, a novitiate of the church is Kalean Ung. Claudio, her brother is Evan Lewis Smith.
Juliet, his beloved is Donna Zadeh. Lucio, a nobleman of Vienna is Nikhil Pai. Gentleman and women

Friar Peter is Patrick Batiste. Provost, in command of the prison is Joseph Culliton. Elbow, a constable

Nathan Nonhof. Barnardine, a murderer is Xavi Moreno. Mariana, a gentlewoman of Vienna is April
Fritz. A Musician is Donna Zadeh. The name of the play, I saw was Measure for Measure. The
Independent Shakespeare Company at the Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival hosted the play. I
saw it on July 7, 2017. During the play, I noticed a few different themes. Some of the theme I noticed
was justice, lying, mortality, and sin. Justice was present through the whole play; in fact, it was the
heart and soul of the play. Justice was present when Claudio was sentenced to be killed and the Duke
allowed Angelo to change Vienna s laws.
Measure for Measure to me was an interesting and convincing play. The part that worked the best was
when the Duke disguising himself as Friar. I would of never known the disguise without the program.
Another bit that worked well was when Claudio was arrested and sentenced to death. The opening,
when the Duke did the announcements, it was hilarious. The part where I felt scared was after Claudio
had sex with Juliet. The part where I felt sad was when Claudio was sentenced to death. Overall the
characters were entertaining. Most of the characters were genuine. The productions had a religious
message for the audience. The message was not to have sex before marriage.
The characters were all believable. The two characters that stuck out the most to me were Claudio,
Evan Lewis Smith and Abhorson, Nathan Nonhof. Evan

Purgatorio Dantes Inferno
The Divine Comedy, written by the Italian poet Dante Alighieri, chronicles said poet s ascension from
Hell to Heaven. Between these two realms of the afterlife exists purgatory, in which the second part of
his poem, Purgatorio, takes place. The initial goal of the work remains in Purgatorio, finding a way to
paradise, or heaven. However, unlike Dante s escape from Hell in Inferno, his journey through
purgatory is more about purging his soul and becoming a whole person in the eyes of God rather than
just getting away from the damned. That is what Purgatorio centers around; the purification of Dante s
soul. In the critical essay, An Overview of Divine Comedy by Dan Terkla, the view that Purgatory is a
testing ground is maintained. Terkla ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wilson Knight, a similar image of Purgatorio is painted. When I went through the poem, I noticed that
at the beginning of Dante s journey through Purgatory, the setting was very dark and dismal, with an
overall bleak atmosphere. As he ascends, however, the setting becomes brighter and a bit more
hopeful, ending with the appearance of the sun. Wilson had noticed this as well, stating that Purgatorio
grows in brightness as the progress ascends, and that light and darkness [are always] alternating,
(Wilson Knight 1). Once more, I agree with the view of this critical essay. There are several clues and
symbols that reflect Wilson s views. There is the presence of light itself, for one, that grows greater
and greater as the poem proceeds. The position of the sun is discussed frequently throughout the
passage, until Dante finally sees it when the fog that blankets Purgatorio clears. This represents Dante
s spiritual readiness to move on to heaven, and further supports the idea that the appearance of light
correlates with Dante s spiritual progress. Symbolism tucked throughout Purgatorio also grows less
bleak as Dante gets closer to heaven. When Dante begins traveling through the terraces, he encounters
souls who have their eyes sewn shut, a strong representation of darkness. Near the end, however,
Dante encounters much more lighthearted material. From a falcon [that] symbolizes aspiration, to the

Chinese Immigration to United States Essay
There were many reasons for the Chinese to come to America. Overcrowding, poverty, war, and other
catastrophes in China were all reasons (push) for traveling to America, as well as effective external
influences. The discovery of gold was a major pull for Chinese peasants in coming to the West Coast.
America s labor needs were the most important external catalyst for immigration. However, there were
very few ways of traveling to the United States. With loans from the Six Companies, Chinese were
able to afford fare to America, and they traveled here to work primarily as gold miners, fishermen, or
agricultural workers; later settling into laundry services and restaurant work (Tsai, China overseas 12

Some immigrants had saved money; others sold property, including farm animals, while others
borrowed money from friends or relatives, and some even pledged their families in order to obtain the
loans. The fare, at the lowest estimate, amounted to forty dollars for transportation to San Francisco
and twenty dollars for the return trip During the year 1852 alone, thirty thousand Chinese who
embarked at Hong Kong for San Francisco paid $1,300,000 for the voyage. At the beginning of 1856,
William Speer calculated that all Chinese in California had paid a total of $2,329,580 for the trip (Tsai,
China overseas 13).
Frequently exploited by American capitalists, Chinese laborers were whipped to dig in gold mines,
build railroads, and plant crops. Industry boomed in Western America as the Chinese toiled
ceaselessly. Free immigration was suggested by the United States in the 1868 Burlingame Treaty
because of the need for labor in America and the potential benefits of trading with the Chinese. Labor
was cheap, and many forms of fraud and propaganda were employed to bring Chinese laborers to the
United States. The discovery of gold was also very beneficial in enticing the Chinese (Tsai, China
overseas 13).
The Chinese were perfectly suited for many different jobs at a time when labor was scarce in the West.
California s wheat growers were among the Caucasian employers who hired these

dominant figure of power. Both through the novel she is talked about for her looks by other characters.
Erika s character naturally has an advantage of being born into a high social status family, compared
to Salander who since a young age has been facing hardship. According to The Girl with the Dragon
Tattoo, there are two levels of social welfare and Salander falls under the lowest category,
guardianship protection. Which allows full control of their client s legal powers or in other words
money. Majority of the people falling into this category are mentally ill, which Lisbeth is not. Both

What s So Funny About America Analysis
Mills, Brett. The Sitcom. Edinburgh: Edinburgh UP, 2009. Print.
Mill s piece provides an indepth look at the Sitcom and it s place in genre and vice versa. The piece
includes a brief history of the sitcom, the ways in which they are distinguished, and the hybridity of
sitcoms as a genre. Mill shows us that because sitcoms have been assumed to be so clearly defined,
little to no research has been done on them, when in fact there is very little agreed upon amongst
researchers, producers, and viewers alike. Mills concludes that what makes a sitcom is that it has
foregrounds of comedic intent. Mills piece is thorough, but the back and forth of using genre and
sitcom to analyze one another creates confusion. At times, it makes the piece seem unorganized and ...

Comic Visions: Television Comedy and American Culture. Boston: Unwin
Hyman, 1989. Print.
This piece analyzes the sitcom in comparison to stand up comedy. In the chapter What s So Funny
About America? sitcoms are broken down into elements that contrast those of stand up. Marc
describes the two forms of comedy as very different. He states that sitcoms depend on familiarity,
identification, and redemption of popular beliefs while stand up normally relies on the shocking
violation of normative taboos.
Instead of defining sitcom as what it is, this piece draws heavily on what it is compared to stand up
comedy. I agree with this piece that the two are very different, therefore I believe the best way to
analyze the two isn t in comparing or contrasting them. This piece relies too much on stand up comedy
and treats sitcom as the inferior of the two.
The piece first notes that comedy forces people to forget that what they are seeing is fake, but in that
exchange experience pure emotion free from guilt. This quote, and the information about sitcoms
reinforcing a status quo help to form a realization of why they work and have continued to be a main
part of television throughout it s

Two Theories Of Personality
Define Personality
A personality is a unique collection of attitudes, emotions, thoughts, habits, impulses and behaviors
that define how a person typically behaves across situations.
Explain in detail at least two theories of personality
Trait Theories: focus more on the biological aspects of personality. Traits are ways in which
individuals behave or react in most situations. Raymond Cattell proposed that there were 16 primary
traits. Individuals differ in the degree of possession which they have in a trait. There are five core
traits, most commonly known as the big five or OCEAN: Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion,
Agreeableness and Neuroticism. Openness is being thoughtful and rational, Conscientiousness is the
attention to detail, Extraversion is the outwardly directed energy, Agreeableness is how well an
individual gets along with others and Neuroticism is emotional instability. Hans Eysenck suggested
that there were only three traits: Psychoticism, Extroversion and Neuroticism.
Humanistic Theories: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Internal traits are stable across a lifespan and differ depending on the individual or particular trait or
both. The five factor trait theory allows persons to develop and be able to function properly. Genetics
affect personality development as some aspects of a personality may be inherited. This includes
adopted children being more closely linked to their adopted parents that their biological parents and
identical twins that are raised apart have similar personality traits. Most personality traits are
consistent and stable over time and little changes occur after the age of thirty as most persons
experiment during their childhood and teenage years. Age, culture and gender are major factors to
consider when discussing stability and change as it differs for each

The Repositioning of the Common House Phone
Demographics The repositioning of the common house phone is a challenge. One option for the phone
is to sell more landlines phones to developing world nations, but even there the growth possibilities
are slim. There are small markets like Belize, but in most countries landline infrastructure is becoming
limited. There are options, however, for repositioning the home phone in the United States, with some
modifications to the technology. Lardinois (2010) notes that Americans under the age of 35 are
unlikely to have a landline, as they use wireless devices for their computing needs. However, even
wireless devices rely on hardwire connections to the router. The common house phone can be
repositioned as a multi purpose device, emphasizing a number of different unique functionality
elements. The target market for the redesigned and repositioned common house phone is the same
market that has eschewed the phone to this point, the urban under 35s. Other target markets already
have house phones, so there is less sales potential. However, by making the common house phone
attractive to the younger demographic, there is strong growth potential in the new product. The
number of under 35s in the United States, according to data from the US Census Bureau is 145
million, and excluding minors the total target market is 62.65 million. Types of Research In order to
reposition the common house phone, substantial market research forms will need to be utilized. The

Wilhelm Negligence Case
In this introduction of the case, we see that there was a question on the floor being asked about if
Wilhelm acted negligently by failing to remind Flores of the dangers of working with beehives. I read
this case twice and speculated on if Mr. Curtis Wilhelm acted negligently in failing to warn Flores of
the dangers of functioning with beehives because John Black provided Santos with a protective suit to
have as you re picking them up. So, after realizing Wilhelm nor his compliance that was John Black,
didn t mention how difficult it is to operate beehives, he did act negligent in failing to communicate
with Santos on the dangers of working with beehives. The core idea of negligence is that people
should exercise reasonable care when they

Alcohol Abuse And Alcohol Use Disorder
A brief history of alcohol and its use, alcohol has been around since the birth of man. Alcohol has been
used for medical reasons, as well as recreational use. As far as historians can tell, the abuse of Alcohol
had been around just as long. But people haven t considered it some type of disorder until the 19th
century. In 1819, German Doctor C. W. Hufeland coined the term Dipsomania. Dipsomania was the
uncontrollable craving for alcohol. In 1849, Dipsomania became known as Alcoholism. In the 1920 s,
Alcoholism was so bad and out of controll, that America had a Prohibition Period in which alcohol
was illegal. In the DSM IV, there were two different and distinct disorders (or subtypes) involving
alcohol. Both of these disorders (or subtypes) had their own criteria. They were Alcohol Abuse
Disorder, and Alcohol Dependence Disorder. The DSM V merge the two together and as a result, it is
now called Alcohol Use Disorder. An interesting fact, under the new DSM V criteria, as much as 31%
of college students may meet the criteria of Alcohol Use Disorder.
AUD (Alcohol Use Disorder) has 3 sub classifications: Mild, Moderate, and Severe. Mild AUD is the
presence of 2 3 criteria met. Moderate AUD is the presence of 4 5 criterial met. Severe is the presence
of 6 or more criteria met. According to the DSM V, the criteria include the following: A problematic
problem must be present, and the problem involves alcohol leading to impairment or distress. At least

The Importance Of Fragmentation In The Black Community
This Open Letter is written to address several positions that remain a source of fragmentation within
the black community, in spite having many monumental successes in industries, continues to lag

base from a construct of advancement, in lieu of having to depend upon subsidies or being completely
left out of any progressive developments.

The dichotomy that exists among blacks in America is a gaping hole too many have left their fate to
politicians and other media personalities to bridge the gap in their personal lives, and have gotten
nothing in return for investing that trust. Which brings me to this point: I don t understand your
position as a Civil Rights Leader if, and when, the most vulnerable in our society cannot get adequate
representation to at least explore what discrepancies exist, and second, to demand a resolution from
those that induced the problem.
You were in Washington, D.C. in late February 2017 during the same time my organization, CAAP

attempts through our media relations department to speak briefly with you to explore a roundtable to
address the visible fallout among young blacks in America. Without question, I value and do
understand you have a busy schedule like I do. I know you were leading a social justice MARCH
during this time, however, what I find alarming is the lack of response from your office to reconsider
having a meeting in the future. Where we could schedule a time convenient for both to initiate a

The United States and Assault Rifles Essay
The United States of America was founded on laws to stop a single person from ruling the country.
These laws were later known as the Bill of Rights, which lists every living person s rights. On this Bill
of Rights is what is know as the Second Amendment which gives United States citizens the right to
bear arms. Over the years this amendment has been questioned by the government on how it affects
the safety of citizens. Safety is important and the new high capacity magazines could be a true threat
to America s safety. As big of a threat as they may seem, assault rifles are not the first major weapon
to wreak havoc on the citizens of the United States. If we take a time machine back in time, we can
see that when there are weapons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This design lead to greater and more powerful weapons to be used in the First and Second World War.
The weapons used in the World Wars were by far the most advanced of their time. The new weapons
produced three times the amount of firepower either sides of the Civil War could produce at any given
time. These weapons were feared by the citizens of the time. These new weapons consisted of the
Thompson, a submachine gun, which fired a .45 caliber bullet at high velocities. This rifle became the
standard fully automatic rifle for the United States Armed Forces. Though this weapon had a very
important role in winning the war, it was also used in various crimes throughout the United States in
the early nineteenth century. Does this make this rifle a bad thing to own? While some would argue
that the weapon was a threat to the public s safety, and while the others would say it was not, it still
fired at a high velocity which makes the possibility of multiple deaths more possible. This caused a
large concern to erupt among the public in large cities where mobs were becoming popular. It was
obvious that these new found guns would be great for protecting the public, however, it would also
come to harm them since they were falling into the hands of criminals. These weapons would never
stop evolving with years to come weapons would become more deadly and even more common than
the thompson would ever be.

In 2004, the national statistics for the prison population showed 1,497,100 persons to be incarcerated from Federal Institutions to State Institutions. Ten years later in 2014, the prison population increased to 1,562,525. This increase in population is not as dramatic when it comes to comparing 2004 and 2014. However, comparing 2014 to 1978 there is a tremendous increase in population, the total population in 1978 was 307, 276. From the war on drugs to the increase numbers of homicides, in 36 years we have incarcerated over one million additional people. In one year, the justice system admitted 631, ... In general Bundelkhand region is affected by the menace of droughts since over a decade. As the article emphasise that the major reason behind the grief and catastrophe in the region is drought followed by flood, hailstorm and irregularity in rainfall. But ecological and environmental factors alone are not responsible for the crisis in the region. There are other reasons such as failure of government programmes which has been applied for mitigating drought and other programmes related to nutrition and food security. Thus government cannot simply blame the crisis as a natural phenomenon and there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For overcoming the problem related to PDS one should give emphasis to universal public distribution system as in other state of India such as Kerala, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu instead of targeted public distribution system (TPDS). The reason is, in TPDS one has to target the beneficiaries to find out who deserves BPL category and who deserves APL category and it is in the process of targeting where the biasness and corruption starts. But when the distribution system becomes universal means everyone is eligible corruption declines because it reduces the power of authorities to do corruption through colluding and divergence and leakage of foodgrains also decline manifold. Moreover, rich will be automatically excluded because he do not have enough times to come to the ration shop, stand in line and wait for his turn to purchase the grain but real poor can wait for its turn. Since major portion of population in the region is rural and is dependent on agriculture in one way or the other and when drought occurs their livelihood is severely hampered. Thus there must be some substitute work so that the people can earn their livelihood. As far as industrialisation is considered this region is the most poor though it is very rich in resource availability. • 6. s Search For Meaning In Herman Hesse s Siddhartha The most important aspect of finding meaning in an individual s life is that the motivation to do so comes intrinsically, not extrinsically. In Man s Search for Meaning, author Viktor Frankl asserts the idea of will to meaning, which is essentially the desire to find meaning and purpose in an individual s life (Frankl 99). Frankl explains that this intrinsic desire to find meaning acts the primary motivational force in man, and it is essential for survival (Frankl 99). He supports this idea by citing a survey in which when asked what was important, 16% of students answered making a lot of money , while 78% said finding a purpose and meaning to my life (Frankl 100). This idea of finding meaning intrinsically, as opposed to extrinsically in the material world, is further explored in Herman Hesse s Siddhartha. The protagonist of the journey, Siddhartha, decides to leave teachers early on in his journey, knowing that he will find enlightenment through his own experiences and inner voice, and not through words and practices that are imposed on him by external sources. The contrast between intrinsic and extrinsic guidance is emphasized in several instances in the novel, one of them being when he intrinsically rejects his indulgent life in the material world. Afterwards, he praises himself for having heard the bird in [his] breast sing and followed it (Hesse 98). Hesse utilizes the symbol of the bird in his breast to represent Siddhartha s inner voice, thus showing that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Ethnography Of The Blue House Ethnography of the Blue House : Plano Day Labor Center While making the drive on my way to school, my father decides to take a short detour to go pay his worker. It is early in the morning and still very grey outside which facilitated my usual slumber. This detour meant nothing more to me than simply that of a detour, but it wasn t until I was suddenly awaken by the car being strangely rocked like that of a small raft in the sea. Being nearly eight years old, I m instantly on high alert and very confused. There is a man in the passenger seat saying hello to me as my dad pays him for a honest day s worth in a moving job the day before, but surrounding the car are about 25 men eagerly trying to speak with my father. Not only was my early morning routine nap disrupted, I truly believed I woke up to a nightmare. As we drove away, my dad laughed telling me to say goodbye to the blue house. After this experience, I simply stated to my dad that I would never return to this place ever again. I was legitimately horrified and pledged to never return. As a kid, I could simply decide to ignore and choose to not care for what I had witnessed, but as I grew up, curiosity and acquired knowledge promoted awareness. I simply became intrigued, and decided to confront a childhood fear. I was not expecting for this fear to then transform into compassion, but while gaining exceedingly more information, I have grown a profound interest that I believe needs to be exposed to in our society. ... Talbot s photo titled The Open Door, I see a picture that utilizes shadows and light to emphasize the subject. The word photography means writing with light. With the invention of calotype, Fox Talbot started the revolution of modern photography in today s world. Trained as a mathematician and chemist, Fox Talbot toyed with photography because it offered a form of documentation or evidence of his findings in science. Thus, photography developed from within the area of science. As he searched for a reasonable method of transferring his captured image onto paper, Fox Talbot coated paper with a solution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But I see the shadows and light as inviting me into the room. In many cultures, people view a doorway as a symbolic boundary between life and death, but because the door is open, I can see hope, not death and darkness. Even though the vines and darkness within the room create a kind of creepy feeling, the picture is inviting and appealing while emphasizing a mystery and uncertainty. The old blocks used to construct the building along with the rustic door, and primitive broom indicates a time back in history. In the center of the photograph, the vertical frame of the doorway appears in contrast to the diagonal shadows, but I see a relationship between the angled broom which is leaning and the shadow on the door. The angles and shadows contrast with the balanced lantern on the outside wall which reflects light. Similar to the genre of Dutch paintings of the time, Fox Talbot characterized the scenes of daily life of the ordinary people. The photograph presents an old building bathed in light, while the interior is dark and shadowy. The scientist turned artist uses symmetry to accent the open doorway. The works of Fox Talbot established photography as an art. This early photograph s genre is that it depicts the simple side explicitly imitating the Dutch paintings of scenes from everyday life and an interest in the ordinary things around him. • 10. Poverty and Underdevelopment of India Health education linkages inequality in distribution of stock of human capital means underinvestment on the one hand and mal investment on the other, as total and per capita stocks of human capital figures in women and backward castes indicate. Perhaps, the main reason lies in the failure of human investment revolution in economic thought to really revolutionize common thinking. individuals as well as state policy makers still perceive education expenditure as consumption and as a burden on the state which reduces public savings. it is misleading to treat public expenditures of backward castes and women as welfare but must be treated as capital formation . Poverty and underdevelopment of India does not permit adequate investment in general, including education. From the private angle, weaker sections who should invest more in education have their present consumption needs focusing on survival where education is perceived as luxury. Even if people took loans, they prefer investment in more tangible and resale able assets which yield higher ROR in short gestation periods to investment in human capital. The state is constrained by its available resources and by its welfare expenditure approach to education. Further, the capital market is too poorly organized to provide funds for investment in education. Thus to bring equity in distribution of human capital between different groups serious efforts have to be made towards reducing discrimination in schooling, improving ... The campaign had intensified in this decade, characterized by greater demands and more aggressive efforts. Although the support of the Civil Rights movement was relatively constant, the goals of the movement became more high reaching and specific, and its strategies became less compromising. The excerpt reads further as a long dissertation of specific goals of the organization, which include black participation in government and economy, defiance against profiteers of slums, and the overall shift to a socialist America. In the socialist train of thought, society is invested in the integrity and economic participation of its people, and, therefore, blacks become almost invaluable to America. Here, each individual is seen as vital to the nation, because, if not, then the whole foundation of the socialist philosophy collapses. And so, it is implied in this document that a change for a new system of government in a new America is needed, which greatly contrasts from simply making people aware of a perfect world with guaranteed civil rights. Another significant transformation took place in the Civil Rights Movement in terms of its strategies. In analyzing this facet of the movement, we notice a great shift from nonviolent demonstration to forward, forceful action. Fallingwater is approximately 43 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. This home was built partly over a waterfall on Bear Run in the Laurel Highlands. • 14. Analysis Of River Out Of Eden And The Art Of War It is difficult to argue whether strategy is an art form or science because it can actually be both. Sun Tzu s text, The Art of War is an example of an ancient humanism text about strategies of war. Humanism by definition is, an outlook or system of thought attaching prime importance to human rather than divine or supernatural matters. Humanist beliefs stress the potential value and goodness of human beings, emphasize common human needs, and seek solely rational ways of solving human problems (Dictionary.com). Therefore, humanism is much like philosophy which is related to science yet influenced by the skill of art. Thomas Cleary starts off the text with a quote from The Book of Balance and Harmony which states, To know after seeing is not worthy of being called knowing (qtd. in Cleary, xv xvi), but since Sun Tzu s teachings are philosophical the text renders itself as war knowledge. In River Out of Eden: A Darwinian View of Life , author and biologist Richard Dawkins would greatly disagree with Cleary s quote because Dawkins believes that, Scientific beliefs are supported by evidence, and they get results (Dawkins 33). According to Dawkins, Darwinism has the power to explain natural occurrences in the universe and his mission is to disprove supernatural views of creation and the world with observable scientific knowledge. Although, military strategies are intuitive there are also observable scientific aspects to the art of war which follow the scientific method. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Cultural Eutrophication Eutrophication, the enrichment of aquatic environments with excess nutrients, is a naturally occurring phenomenon characterized by excessive plant and algae growth. Eutrophication initially increases productivity and limits light penetration, and subsequently results in reduced growth, depleted inorganic carbon, and anoxic dead zones (Chislock, Doster, Zitomer, Wilson, 2013). Historically, primary productivity has been considered limited by an individual nutrient (Gooddy et al., 2016). Schindler (1974) established the highly influential paradigm that phosphorus (P) is generally considered limiting in freshwater environments. However, this has been subject to debate by evidence of freshwater nitrogen (N) limitation, N/P co limitation, and the role of spatial and temporal variation (Xu, Paerl, Qin, Zhu, Gao, 2010; Hundey, Moser, Longstaffe, Michelutti, Hladyniuk, 2014) Cultural eutrophication, resulting from anthropogenic nutrient pollution, and has increased in both frequency and intensity over the past century due to intensification of agriculture, industry and sewage disposal (Schindler, 1974). The causes and consequences of eutrophication are important to study because of the resulting direct and indirect effects on ecosystems alongside societal impacts (Chrislock et al., 2013). This was translated into Greek as Petros (from the Greek Petra, rock ) and became a Latin Petrus and the English Peter. Jesus told Peter he was the Rock upon whom the Christian Church would be built. Throughout the public life of Jesus, Peter is represented in the Gospel as the Spokesman and principal member of Jesus followers. He is the first named in the entire list given of these followers and was present with a privilege at few special occasions, example, the daughter of Jairus brought back to life by Jesus. • 18. The Family And Medical Leave Act Throughout time and history women are perceived as a housewife, mothers, and givers; while men are breadwinners, fathers, and receivers. Women have strived to change this stereotype for years, and while sometimes this stereotype disappears for a subtle moment, it always will resurface. Especially, when it comes to maternity leave. Men and women are given an equal amount of time to care for a newborn, but somehow the father returns to work in a matter of days. Why is that, you may ask? It is because America has generalized American into their known stereotype. And because of this, we see men returning to the workforce in a short amount of time. Men, along with women, should have a paid extension from the Family and Medical Leave Act to care for their child, create the bonding link between child and parent, while tearing down the stereotypical assumption wall between man and woman. In the United States, maternity leave is considering under the Family and Medical Leave Act. The Family and Medical Leave Act was constructed by the U.S. Department of Labor in 1993. This act states, an eligible employee shall be entitled to a total of 12 workweeks of leave during any 12 month period for one or more of the following: (A) Because of the birth of a son or daughter of the employee and in order to care for such son or daughter. • 19. Analysis Of European Commission Sponsored Information... The authors conducted both a qualitative and content analysis of European Commission sponsored information pamphlets and campaigns aimed at general European audiences. The results reveal a consistent neo liberal message. Interestingly, the authors found the origin of this message in an ovular report by Évelyne Sullerot in 1970 on the dangers of women staying out of the labor market. The Sullerot report determined that women s entry into the workforce was necessary for the economic growth of the European Union as a way to create a competitive economy, growth overall, and to combat an aging population and a dwindling labor supply. This message is echoed throughout the next thirty years of the EU s informational campaign aimed at society in general and women in particular. Furthermore, in the EU s promotional materials exhorting women to work, there is no pretense that the push for equality is for women s benefit. Instead, the materials explain that equality is a pre condition for economic growth. Additionally, social welfare policy is not to benefit society or even the ill and infirmed, but to allow women entry into the work force. By the same token, the emphasis on work/life balance and encouraging men to do an increased share of housework is framed as a way to get women out of the house and into the work force. The section begins with an overview of the research approach, and a discussion of the Sullerot report followed by analyses of the subsequent EU information ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What that was saying is that for everything you want to do, you have to have the physical ability and the mind set to do it. Energy and work are the two most important things in human society. Work is activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a purpose or result. That means, is you want something done, DO IT. According to Eriksson, P., Kovalainen, A. These negotiations, which took place between Iran and the members of the P5+1 comprised of the five permanent members of the UN Security council, joined by Germany over the course of several years, resulted in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in July of 2015. The JCPOA would entail lifting sanctions on Iran, in return for restrictions on the Iranian nuclear program. The deal requires Iran to give up many of its centrifuge and much of its uranium stockpile, while also limiting the level of uranium enrichment, and where enrichment can occur. Furthermore, Iran agreed to allow inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to check the declared nuclear sites at any time. Under the terms of the JCPOA, Iran is unlikely to be able to develop weaponized nuclear technology, helping to head off nuclear competition in the unstable Middle East, and, hopefully, preventing nuclear proliferation. Senator McCarthy s attempt to gain publicity with his outlandish accusations worked. Between these two realms of the afterlife exists purgatory, in which the second part of his poem, Purgatorio, takes place. The initial goal of the work remains in Purgatorio, finding a way to paradise, or heaven. However, unlike Dante s escape from Hell in Inferno, his journey through purgatory is more about purging his soul and becoming a whole person in the eyes of God rather than just getting away from the damned. That is what Purgatorio centers around; the purification of Dante s soul. In the critical essay, An Overview of Divine Comedy by Dan Terkla, the view that Purgatory is a testing ground is maintained. When I went through the poem, I noticed that at the beginning of Dante s journey through Purgatory, the setting was very dark and dismal, with an overall bleak atmosphere. As he ascends, however, the setting becomes brighter and a bit more hopeful, ending with the appearance of the sun. Wilson had noticed this as well, stating that Purgatorio grows in brightness as the progress ascends, and that light and darkness [are always] alternating, (Wilson Knight 1). Once more, I agree with the view of this critical essay. There are several clues and symbols that reflect Wilson s views. There is the presence of light itself, for one, that grows greater and greater as the poem proceeds. The position of the sun is discussed frequently throughout the passage, until Dante finally sees it when the fog that blankets Purgatorio clears. This represents Dante s spiritual readiness to move on to heaven, and further supports the idea that the appearance of light correlates with Dante s spiritual progress. Symbolism tucked throughout Purgatorio also grows less bleak as Dante gets closer to heaven. When Dante begins traveling through the terraces, he encounters souls who have their eyes sewn shut, a strong representation of darkness. Near the end, however, Dante encounters much more lighthearted material. From a falcon [that] symbolizes aspiration, to the bright ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Free immigration was suggested by the United States in the 1868 Burlingame Treaty because of the need for labor in America and the potential benefits of trading with the Chinese. Labor was cheap, and many forms of fraud and propaganda were employed to bring Chinese laborers to the United States. The discovery of gold was also very beneficial in enticing the Chinese (Tsai, China overseas 13). Mill s piece provides an indepth look at the Sitcom and it s place in genre and vice versa. The piece includes a brief history of the sitcom, the ways in which they are distinguished, and the hybridity of sitcoms as a genre. Mill shows us that because sitcoms have been assumed to be so clearly defined, little to no research has been done on them, when in fact there is very little agreed upon amongst researchers, producers, and viewers alike. Mills concludes that what makes a sitcom is that it has foregrounds of comedic intent. Mills piece is thorough, but the back and forth of using genre and sitcom to analyze one another creates confusion. At times, it makes the piece seem unorganized and ... In the chapter What s So Funny About America? sitcoms are broken down into elements that contrast those of stand up. Marc describes the two forms of comedy as very different. He states that sitcoms depend on familiarity, identification, and redemption of popular beliefs while stand up normally relies on the shocking violation of normative taboos. Instead of defining sitcom as what it is, this piece draws heavily on what it is compared to stand up comedy. I agree with this piece that the two are very different, therefore I believe the best way to analyze the two isn t in comparing or contrasting them. This piece relies too much on stand up comedy and treats sitcom as the inferior of the two. The piece first notes that comedy forces people to forget that what they are seeing is fake, but in that exchange experience pure emotion free from guilt. • 47. The Repositioning of the Common House Phone Demographics The repositioning of the common house phone is a challenge. One option for the phone is to sell more landlines phones to developing world nations, but even there the growth possibilities are slim. There are small markets like Belize, but in most countries landline infrastructure is becoming limited. There are options, however, for repositioning the home phone in the United States, with some modifications to the technology. Lardinois (2010) notes that Americans under the age of 35 are unlikely to have a landline, as they use wireless devices for their computing needs. However, even wireless devices rely on hardwire connections to the router. The common house phone can be repositioned as a multi purpose device, emphasizing a number of different unique functionality elements. The target market for the redesigned and repositioned common house phone is the same market that has eschewed the phone to this point, the urban under 35s. Other target markets already have house phones, so there is less sales potential. However, by making the common house phone attractive to the younger demographic, there is strong growth potential in the new product. Alcohol has been used for medical reasons, as well as recreational use. As far as historians can tell, the abuse of Alcohol had been around just as long. But people haven t considered it some type of disorder until the 19th century. In 1819, German Doctor C. W. Hufeland coined the term Dipsomania. Dipsomania was the uncontrollable craving for alcohol.
