(BOM) defines the
list of components
with their operations
to produce a product.
BOM can be
specifically defined
for each variant.

perform some

Work Centers & Work Center Operations

Work Center Operation defines the information
of each step during a production of a product.
Users can set the standard duration of each
operation.
Users can also attach the worksheet to give
instructions to the workers.
Associated to each operation is a work center. Work
center represents a type of machine or worker which /
who can handle some operations during the production.
Work Center & Work Center Operation are the base to
calculate a planning for each Manufacturing Order.

Make to Order (MTO) [Procurement Method #1]

In the product configuration, check the option “Make To Order”
in the section Routes. This tells Odoo to create either a draft
purchase order / manufacturing order when there are demands
for this component.
By either choosing “Manufacture” or “Buy”, the configurator
indicates whether a purchase order or a manufacturing order
should be created to fulfill the demands.
In this example, our supply method is to manufacture this
product.
This method is usually used for custom-made, on-demand or
high-value products.

Make to Stock (MTS) [Procurement Method #2]

By default, if “Make to Order” is NOT checked, Odoo uses the
procurement method “Make to Stock”.
Choose the supply method as “Manufacture” in this example.
To control the stock level of MTS products, we can configure the
Reordering Rules.

Odoo auto computes the forecasted number to supply and the forecasted
inventory over the period of 12 months. With this mechanism, you can
proactively control the procurement as well as quickly identify the potential
issues.

Procurement” which will trigger
the creation of
● Purchase Order: if the
supply method is “Buy”;
● Manufacturing Order: if the
supply method is
“Manufacture”.
In this example, it is a MO.
The Source Document of this MO is “MPS”. However, this can be
improved to offer more visibility.
