Trip Essay Example
Crafting an essay on the topic of a trip may seem deceptively simple at first glance, as
recounting personal experiences often appears straightforward. However, delving into the
intricacies of narrating a journey demands a nuanced approach. The difficulty lies not only in the
recounting of events but also in capturing the essence of the trip, making it engaging for the
reader.
To begin with, one must navigate the balance between providing sufficient detail and avoiding
excessive minutiae. Too much detail can lead to a monotonous narrative, while too little may
leave the reader disconnected from the experience. Finding the right level of descriptive
language requires a delicate touch, ensuring that the reader can vividly imagine the surroundings
without feeling overwhelmed.
Furthermore, the challenge extends to structuring the essay coherently. A trip essay isn't just a
chronological sequence of events; it's an opportunity to weave a compelling story. The writer
must decide on the narrative arc, determining where to build suspense, introduce reflections, or
emphasize pivotal moments. This structural complexity adds an additional layer of difficulty to
the writing process.
Moreover, capturing the emotional nuances of the journey can be challenging. Conveying the
feelings experienced during the trip—whether excitement, awe, frustration, or
introspection—requires a skillful use of language. Striking the right emotional chord ensures
that the reader not only comprehends the events but also connects with the personal and
transformative aspects of the journey.
In conclusion, while the prospect of writing a trip essay might initially seem straightforward, the
task is rife with challenges. The writer must deftly balance descriptive detail, craft a compelling
narrative structure, and skillfully convey the emotional resonance of the journey. It is through
this intricate interplay of elements that a truly engaging trip essay emerges.

Patient Satisfaction After Surgical Procedures
Consumer Reports conducted the study, in the article, in an attempt to identify what
hospitals offer the best quality of service, including how safe hospitals are ranked
after surgical procedures. Overall surgery ratings for 27 types of surgeries are
identified in the article, based on a percentage of Medicare patients that die in
hospitals or have their stay in the hospitalextended beyond the original length
expected. The medical based rating were developed statistically working with a
health care consulting firm that specialized in analyzing medical claims and
clinical records. The patient satisfaction information is based upon a survey of
millions of patients regarding recent hospital stays. The patient satisfaction survey
was completed with the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers
and Systems, or HCAHPS. This survey rated overall patient experience based on
the average responses to two survey questions. The percentage of patients who said
they would definitely recommend the hospital; and the percentage of patients who
responded that the hospital received an overall rating of 9 or 10 on a scale of 0 to 10.
(Consumer Reports, 2013)
Understanding the Ratings Overall The ratings provided in the article are for 2,463
of the United States acute care or critical care type hospitals and the focus is
Medicare type in patient services, and implies that the same care received by other
patients not insured by Medicare at these hospitals. The ratings are

The typical country does not approve of citizens killing other beings, and yet the
typical country approves of war. War is the term for legalized mass murdering that is
organized being that not all countries can simply live in harmony with one another.
Like most horrible things, it causes more problems than it solves. The effects of this
glorified engagement are demonstrated and analyzed within the novels Johnny Got
His Gun by Dalton Trumboand Born on the Fourth of July by Ron Kovic. These
two novels are the stories of two soldiers who went into two different wars that
caused them to deal with great change that would alter their lives forever. Even
though these novels accentuate the concept of soldier s overcoming obstacles,
they moreso focus on the adversity of saying goodbye, isolation, and sacrifice that
many soldiers must deal with. To begin, both authors discuss the hardships people
must go through in order to become soldiers, especially that of having to leave
behind loved ones. In Dalton Trumbo s Johnny Got His Gun, he expresses and
details the difficulty that many soldiers must go through when he writes about Joe
Bonham having to say goodbye to his family and girlfriend. For example, in
chapter three it states, Oh Joe Joe I don t want you to go. You think I want to go? I
m afraid. (Trumbo 34). In this quote, it is the day before Joe Bonham s departure,
and his girlfriend, Kareen, is expressing her fear in him leaving. This shows Bonham

Minimum Wage Vs Living Wage
We have heard the argument that families just need to learn to live within their
means, but with ever increasing expenses like housing, healthcare, goods and
services, combined with ever decreasing wages, our economy is a recipe for disaster.
While some argue that the minimum wage should be raised to a living wage, others
argue that any increase in the minimum wagewould spell disaster for employers and
destroy any economic growth.
Minimum wage versus a living wage . Minimum wage is defined as: the lowest
wage paid or permitted to be paid; specifically: a wage fixed by legal authority or
by contract as the least that may be paid either to employed persons generally or to
a particular category of employed persons (Merriam Webster,2017) . While this is
the legal minimum which you can be paid, it is not the minimum amount an
individual needs to live on. That requirement is now often referred to as the
minimum living wage and defined as: a wage sufficient to provide the necessities
and comforts essential to an acceptable standard of living persons (Merriam
Webster,2017) . It is interesting to note that the term, acceptable standard of living ,
does not imply that individual or those individuals will be living a lavish lifestyle, or
have sufficient funds in savings to support them in times of hardship, or investing in
their future retirement. Instead of focusing on the national problem, I will try to keep
look at things as they are here in Portland, Oregon. In the
How to Choose a Career Essay
Many pastors often will have the little children of the church ushered to the front
to speak with them briefly. In a playful manner he asks them, what are they going
to be when they grow up? It is amazing how the majority of them say with such
confidence what they will be someday. And in the congregation sits me, a returning
college student who decided to do a three sixty and pursue a different career. One
of the major factors in a career is that it will give an individual flexible time with
family and friends. The salary often is the deciding factor for some in choosing a
career; in fact, the careers of my choice all had great pay in salary. In narrowing
down the best choice it ultimately came down to which career has continuous growth

Although, the majority of the responsibility of a case is in the paralegal hands;
however, it is the attorney expertise in a particular matter that structure a case.
Individuals as paralegals have the opportunity to participate in the legal field
rather then becoming a lawyer to further their passion. The amount of time a
paralegal spends researching for a case may overshadow personal responsibilities
depending on the need of the client and lawyer. Because of this, a paralegal may
have to work for a private attorney to be more adjustable to a personal situation that
might occur. Second, a career in journalism can be industrious for an individual. In
the article Journalism: Toward an Accountable Profession, Richard P. Cunningham
states, The public cannot know on the basis of the news report itself whether the
report is reliable (15). Journalism would be a career where the source(s) have to be
credible. For example, a career in journalism an individual writes, edit, publish, or
report news all the time. Journalist have to make sure the accounts of events are
accurate although sometimes biases in journalism can occur. The variety of topics
journalist cover can includes politics, entertainment, culture, sports, and science.
Also, to get an accurate detail report journalist have to be their first hand as the story
unfolds. Journalist may have to travel from location to location to get the news as
Sons Of Liberty Thesis
A thank you is owed to the Sons of Liberty for the sacrifices they gave for the sake
of the American citizens and their daily freedoms. They gave up their liberty to
walk down the street without having to constantly look over their shoulder to make
sure there were no British soldiers in sight. Rather than just staying in the shadows,
they all showed their faces. To prove that they would not buckle under pressure, they
wrote a list of every member s name. Like most everyday hero, these members never
backed away from a battle. They stepped into the ring and fought their way to the
independence Americans have today. The Sons of Libertystood up against the high
taxes given to them by the British Empire to protect the human rights for the Thirteen

The attempt that followed in their path to control over the colonists was the Tea
Act. The Tea Act of 1773 stated that all tea products had lowered prices to try to
convince the colonists to approve of their tax, but that only led to angry colonists
and the Boston Tea Party (Andrilk). The idea to try taxing the colonists was an
irrational move made by the Bostonian Empire. The Sons of Liberty had already
made their plans fail two major times, so trying for a third time was just a poor
move. The Sons of Liberty boycotted and chased ships away from the harbor before
threatening the ship captains that they would cover them in tar and feathers
(Brooks). Before the whole story of the actual Boston Tea Party gets started, it
should be informed that the Sons of Liberty technically warned the British before
doing anything insane. The British just kept sending ships of tea anyways. After the
story of the Sons of Liberty started to spread through the colonies, a group of
revolutionaries acquired inspiration in another state convinced a ship owner to burn
his own ship down (Morton). That genius group genuinely did not do anything wrong
at all. They just said several obstructions to convince that captain to burn his ship
down with his own, personal free will. When a few other ships from London
Reflection Of Education
While these are good values to have when starting my career as an educator, these
abstract thoughts aren t going to get me anywhere unless I am able to translate them
into practice. Upon reflection about how to do so, I was able to come up with a few
ways on how to get these thoughts into educational practice. One important practice
is to institute effective, positive and accurate communication with parents as soon as
possible. Starting off the year with parent teacher conferences as early as possible
will start off the year on a good note while finding out as much as possible about
the...familys goals for their child s learning and development (YC). This will ensure
that everyone is on the same page going into the year and they can... Show more

This extra work that the teachers need to put in is tripled for the parents; they have
been dealing with their child and their needs since birth. Respecting and appreciating
[this] extra work and being able to include positive comments about their child s
successes and not just their shortcomings will go a long way in building up the
respect from parents (YC). We need to keep in mind that some parents have had a
long history of working with the government and other professionals that haven t
been helpful and they might assume that you won t assist their child either. This is a
challenge that can be addressed when first speaking to the parents and communicating
with them that you are here to help and describe various ways to provide supports.
Along with communication with the families, an important part of building a
cohesive classroom is having techniques on controlling behaviors. This will
include, in some instances, an FBA and BiP to curtail specific problem behaviors.
For the most part, I will try and implement PBIS and other styles, like group
contingency strategies, to manage my classroom. I hope that my class will respect
me and therefore listen to the rules that we have in place. During the first day, as a
class, we will come up with a rules list that is simple yet pervasive. After putting into
effect these rules, the consequences will be clearly stated.
Miletus In Ancient Greece
Ancient Greece has played an important role in the establishment of later
civilizations. Ancient Greece had a strong influence in the Mediterranean area
especially after the eighth century BC until the rise of Ancient Rome. One important
factor of Ancient Greek society is the formation and organization of government and
the city state. Miletus is one of the many Greek cities states that played a prominent
role during this time period. Miletus had a changing and growing governmental
system due to the many internal and external influences.

Miletus was also a great cultural center and produced many great citizens with
different and new innovations that helped both Ionia and Greece. Thales of Miletus
was one of the wisest men of the ancient times. He is seen as the father of Pre
Socratic Greek philosophy. He applied his knowledge of the natural causes of the
world and originated the science of metaphysics. Thales will be followed by other
great thinkers like the philosophers Anaximander, who learned from Thales, and
Anaximenes, who was a student of Anaximander. They also had influence in the
other humanities like the historian Hecataeus who was interested in geography, and
the poet Phocylides who was known for his honest words, and the famous city planner
My Experiences in a Nursing Career Essay
Nursing Nursing is an art: and if it is to be made an art, It requires an exclusive
devotion as hard a preparation, as any painterВґs or sculptorВґs work; for what is the

My sights have changed as I have gotten older. I no longer want to become a
medical doctor. I may in the far future decide to become a doctor but I would rather
be a registered nurse because they deal with the patients more. I also prefer
working with pediatric or gereatric patients. Whatever way that I decide to go I will
always be helping someone, somewhere. I have looked at many colleges. I find
myself lucky to be in Grand Forks, North Dakota. UND is an amazing school, with
a highly recommended nursing program. North Dakota is one of the only states
left that require a four year nursing degree. I looked in to going to the tech but
decided that it was not the right choice for me since I am planning to stay in North
Dakota. This would mean I would have to work in minnesota or take a job in North
Dakota and work under a different title with less pay and benefits. Another benefit
that accompanies going to a four year nursing program is if i wanted to higher my
education it would be in my best interest to have the extra two years behind me.
My next step in becomming a registered nursing is a little sidetracked. I want to be

Comparison Of Bobbi Brown And Eugene Schueller
The two people I chose are Bobbi Brown, by Didi, and Eugene Schueller, by
Mackenzie. I chose Eugene Schueller because he is the founder of a business that
my mom loves and the story of how the business came to be was very inspiring, I
also chose Bobbi Brown because I love her makeup products. I think that both
entrepreneurs have very inspiring stories behind the creation of their brands. What
stood out to me about Eugene Schueller was that he started off as a chemist and
when he discovered the formula for hair dyes and makeup in school he began to
invent many different formulas and dyes in his kitchen and had branched off since
then. He started by selling to local salons and years later when others all over started

the house and offering them food and shelter pleases the gods. Telemakhos s first
reaction is described, He went straight to the front gate, indignant in his heart that a
stranger had stood so long at the gate. He stood near her, grasped her right hand,

Telemakhos feels awful having to witness his home being destroyed by suitors and

How Does Charlie Brooker Use The Satire In Black Mirror
Black Mirror is a British television series created by Charlie Brooker about
technology that is set in the near future. Each episode is a stand alone science
fiction drama. The show uses dark satire in which technology creates a dystopia,
eerily similar to what could happen in reality. The common theme in a few of the
episodes is how the government influences and controls the people. Season two,

and that was the reason the technology was compromised. This episode is
successful because it links government spying with social media. It shows how all
technology is interconnected and that there are many outcomes that may lead to
unintended consequences. Black Mirror has been largely successful since it has
been out on Netflix. Before, it only aired in the UK, and had a small following. It
is heavily influenced by The Twilight Zone, with self contained stories that are
both science fiction set in a different time, but offer social commentary to today s
problems. Because it hits so close to home, Black Mirror has become very popular,
even years after it first came out. Since every episode is a stand alone, the creators
can cover a wider range of topics without having to stick to the same plot, just the
common theme of technology. So there is an episode for

passage of time changes at higher levels of elevation on the Earth, as clocks will

should be put in a younger league more suitable for them so they too can be given
a chance to become great like those born in the earlier months. Since this doesn t
happen though those born earlier are much more likely to become great, which
provides a solid backing of Gladwell s Outlier theory. The same thing is applicable
to the academic field. Children who come from a family with more money tend to be
given more opportunities early on such as placement

Professional Archaeology
There are many different settings and different areas that are available for
archaeologists to work at. Some archaeologists are employed by universities,
engineering firms, cultural resource management firms, museums, historic sites, and
federal/state government agencies.
(saa.org) Archaeologists who work these jobs have very different job descriptions,
however they re all putting their archaeology skills to work. Some examples of
their job descriptions include research on shipwrecks as an underwater
archaeologist, identifying bones while on an archaeological site, creating digital
maps of these archaeological sites, preserving artifacts as an archaeological lab

Each archaeologists setting of work is different from the next. While professors
will teach at universities; other archaeologists will find jobs in cultural resource
management, in museums, and other areas. While a career in cultural resource
management can quite easy to find, a job at universities or in museums can be
quite difficult due to less demand in that area of work (saa.org). Archaeology can
be split up into two different categories, academic archaeology and professional
archaeology, also known as compliance archaeology. These two categories differ in
many ways. Academic archaeology is very similar to public archaeology, which is
the practice of presenting archaeological data to the public and interpreting that data
to the public as well
(archaeology.about.com). Archaeologists who work in this area can normally be
found in museums, historical societies, and professional archaeology associations.
This is where academic and professional archaeology can overlap, working in a
professional archaeology association.
Some cultural resource management firms also hire academic archaeologists, but
they also hire professional archaeologists as well. These professional archaeologists

How To Read Maps
There are many different strategies that an educator can used to teach students how to
understand maps and make it interesting. Learning to read maps can be exhausting
and sometimes confusing. This is why the teacher need to find strategies that are
effective and fin for the students. One strategy that works is literature. Literature
plays a very important role in our student academic journey and without it, it will be
impossible to learn anything. Teachers can use readingtime or read aloud time to
introduced students to different ways of learningto read a map, why is important to
read maps, and following directions. The teacher cab check if students are

Describe The Four Types Of Weapons In Elizabethan
Elizabethan Era Weapons
,All of mankind s existence has been in thanks for weaponry. From the cavemen to
the Elizabethan Era, weapons have always been by man s side. Nobles, Archers, and
Knights have all used various types of weapons in the Elizabethan Era. From the
billhook to the Poleaxe, Elizabethan Era soldiers have used almost any weapon given
to them, and they will fight for their cause no matter the cost. Foot soldiers were
the main men the Elizabethan used during war. Foot soldiers were the most
versatile out of the main four types of soldiers used by Elizabethan. These soldiers
either rode horseback or were on foot, giving them their name, Foot Soldiers . Foot
soldiers mainly used a mace. Foot soldiers used the mace because of it s mobility
and also by the amount of damage it could deal in a single blow. These soldiers
were also the most plentiful of any type of soldier that Elizabethan had at her
disposal, but foot soldiers weren t the only type of soldier Elizabethan had. Not only
did Elizabethan, she also had knights. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using weapons on horseback made someone a harder target to hit and more deadly
on the battlefield. The most used weapons on horseback were the mace and the
poleaxe. The mace was a metal ball with spikes attached to a chain and rod. It
could severely injure or kill anyone with one hard blow. While the mace was very
effective, it was also very cheap to manufacture. So if a mace broke in combat, it
wouldn t make a financial hole into the ruler s pocket. Poleaxes were also a very
effective weapon to use from horseback. It was a long sharpened rod with an
axehead on the top. The poleaxe was long so that a soldier could be up close, but
also keep their distance to protect themselves from the enemy. Poleaxes were
primarily used while a knight was mounted on horseback. Just like the mace, it could
do significant damage with just one blow and defend a soldier against

Wound Care Treatment For Burn Patients
Wound care treatment for burn patients is a painful experience where pain relief
options are limited or otherwise too expensive and dangerous such as general
anaesthesia (Patterson Ptacek, 1997). Burn patients are given opioid based drugs like
morphine to manage their pain but this rarely eradicates the paincompletely and some
patients may find these drugs have little effect at all (Hoffman et al., 2004;
Patterson, Hoffman, Palacios, Jensen, 2006; Patterson Ptacek, 1997). Burn patients
undergoing wound care treatment experience increased pain in the early stages of
recovery; more so than the initial incident of being burned. (Harandi, Esfandani,
Shakibaei, 2004; Patterson Ptacek, 1997). Burn patients not only experience
physical trauma but psychological trauma as well; as such, these factors can have an
adverse effect on the patients recovery (Harandi et al., 2004). To provide additional
pain relief and expedite recovery, several studies have been conducted to explore
adjunctive pain relief methods that can be used frequently with minimum cost and
risk. Rapid Induction Analgesia (RIA) and Virtual Reality Treatment (VRT) are two
types of adjunctive treatments that researchers have investigated for managing burn
patient pain (Patterson et al., 2006). Therefore, the current study investigated if a
combination of RIA and VRT will produce a greater analgesic effect than VRT alone;
and, to also determine if the environment in VRT has any effect on pain relief. So
Effect of Mannose on Shoot Formation of Eplants
Results and Discussion Effect of mannose on shoot formation of explants As
pBCAMBIA PMI contains the pmi gene which confers mannose resistance, we used
the mannose as a selection agent in our transformation experiments. Nine different
concentrations and combinations of mannose and sucrose in shoot regeneration
medium were used to evaluate the effect of mannose on the organogenesis of non
transformed tobacco leaf explants (Fig. 2). After 3 weeks cultivation, we found that
no explants produced shoots on media without any tested carbon source (Fig. 2A).
When cultivated on 30 gl 1 sucrose (0/30), 100% of the tobacco leaf explants
regenerated. The organogenesis response decreased progressively when mannose
concentration was increased in the shoot regeneration medium. A decreasing
selectivity of mannose was also seen when 5 gl 1 sucrose was supplemented to the
selection medium. Results show that the inhibitory effects of mannose increases with
decreasing sucrose concentration in the medium, indicating an interaction between
mannose and sucrose (Fig. 3). Similar results were described by Sigareva et al. (2004)
in tomato as the addition of sucrose to the selection medium modulated the inhibitory
effect of mannose on shoot formation. Earlier studies pointed that the indirect toxic
effect of mannose caused by the conversion to mannose 6 phosphate by endogenous
hexokinase increases with decreasing sucrose concentration in the medium,
suggesting an interaction between mannose and
Benedick Foil
Foils are common in any books, whether it s the antagonist bringing out the best in
the antagonist or the protagonist bringing out the worst in the antagonist. Foils are
everywhere. In Much Ado About Nothing written by William Shakespeare, almost
all of the characters can foil each other in some way or another. In the beginning,
Claudio is falling for Hero on the day the meet. Hero is Leonato s Daughter. The
people throw a masquerade ball later that night where Claudio is deceived by Don
John that Don Pedro is wooing Hero for himself. Luckily for Claudio this rumor is
false, and Claudio and Hero were going to married in a week. Then Claudio is
deceived once again by Don John that Hero is cheating on him, on the night before
the wedding. Then on the wedding day he publicly shames Hero. In the end though,
they realize the truth and end up getting married alongside Benedick and Beatrice. In

While they do end up changing traits as more things happen to them , they foil
each other anyways. After Claudio shames Hero at his wedding he wanders off.
Enter Benedick about to challenge him to a duel. Claudio tells Benedick Draw
pleasure to us. (Shakespeare,86). The foil here is Claudio being particularly
mopey after he just shamed his wife at his wedding. Benedick treats Beatrice with
respect and would presumably ask her about it before the wedding and rationalize
what s going on. Earlier in the book Benedick says, I noted her not, but I looked on
her. (Shakespeare,6). While this may contradict what I just said, this is toward the
beginning of the book when he only loved himself. At the same time during this
quote Claudio is confessing his love for Hero. To Claudio that could be a little
insulting. Luckily towards the end of the book Benedick becomes a much better
The Theory Of Ethical Leader
Literature Review
The following ten researched based literature reviews, would be utilized to support
and validate the hypotheses. In the research paper by Bello (2012), the concept of
ethical leader, including the characteristic of an ethical leader, the role it played in
improving employee job performance and the development of such leaders (p.229).
Through his research Bello (2012) found that employees are more willing to put
an extra effort work more effectively when they are led by ethical leaders, which
results in higher satisfaction. Employees related the level of trust in the
organization with the level of ethic within the organization. Employees who
perceived their leaders as unethical, were less likely to follow them and more likely
to take advantage (Bello, 2012, p. 232). The level of an employee s commitment to
the organization showed to also be impacted by the ethical or unethical practices of
their leaders. When employees felt they were not treated fairly, their level of
commitment drops, as did their job performance (Bello, 2012, p.233). O Toole
(2009), connects the impact of leadership, ethics and corporate culture on employees
and other stakeholders, such as shareholders and the community. Ethical treatment of
employees was compared through the practices of Wal Mart and Costco. Wal Mart is
a non unionized, low wage, no benefit company who does not put much importance
in training and development of their employees (O Toole, 2009). Costco is unionized,

Two Opposing Powers
I recently read two articles concerning the topics of science and religion. Chet
Raymo, author of Miracles and Explanations, offers insight on how science and
religion are closely related while David Ludden, author of Teaching Evolution at a
Christian College , declares that science and religion are too contradicting from one
another and that people are unwilling to open their minds to new ideas once they
have established their beliefs (Raymo Ludden, 2011). This is a topic that has had
controversy surrounding it for an innumerable amount of years dating back to ancient
times when the Catholic Church ruled Europe to present times where we have to
decide if we want our children learning about Darwin s theory of evolution because it
might... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. Ludden closes by stating one strategy science teachers use to capture the interest
of their students. He uses the analogy of a drug pusher giving away drugs for free
until the client is hooked and then starts charging them for more. He states that this
method doesn t work because science doesn t produce the high religion does and that
at the end of the day it is up to the student to decide whether they want to
accommodate science with their faith (Raymo Ludden, 2011, p. 702 704). Mr.
Raymo uses a Rogerian style in his writing because he is trying to build common
ground in his argument. He starts by talking about miracles and how we are taught
fake stories when we are young. This is something majority of people can relate to.
Then he explains how as we get older we acknowledge these miracles as lies
because we disprove them scientifically. He also mentions that the concepts of
science are miracles and based on that scientists form theories. So far his reasoning
is logical. This helps his argument because more people will appeal to logical
reasoning. He also provides strong evidence of religion and science working
together when he writes about the experiment done on the Shroud of Turin. The
Church officials allowed three distinct labs to use carbon dating to discover the age
of the cloth. The findings were supported by the Church, and Pope John Paul II went
on to speak of the relationship of science and religion,
Empathy In Criminal Justice
My last definition of empathy was the ability, used by men and women, to connect
with others using the same emotions; www. youtube matching the emotions,
experience, and thoughts of another to support and help them during times of need.
Empathy is used when people need others to understand what they are going through
and to help them change the world around them, empathyis also the main cause for
help and support.
Out of this unit, I will be focusing on natural law ethics goes hand with human nature
and how it relates to empathy. My view is that natural ethic does not support the
emotional aspect of empathy. Natural law is predictable, goal driven systems
whereby life is sustained, and everything functions smoothly. God created the world
based on natural law, and to help us follow the natural law God gave us components
of human nature to follow natural law. As said Aquinas identifies four categories of

These four things are deemed good in the aspect of natural ethics since, A common
way of thinking that feeds into a natural law ethics approach has to do with seeing
things that are natural as good. These were given to us by God to make the right
decisions. Since human nature focuses on continuing life we can assume that we are
naturally good. Our human nature is based on us promoting life, and promoting the
natural, being empathetic tends to pull away from the natural, life sustaining aspect,
ethics. Empathy causes us to make a connection with other people, and even though
this may attain to the social aspect of natural law ethics, it also makes us emotional
and as viewed by society makes us irrational. The emotional aspect of empathy is
detrimental to Natural law ethics, and why some may argue about the sociality part
of empathy; you do not need empathy to be socially interactive. Human
The Poetry Of Seamus Heaney
Seamus Heaney is one of the most famous living poets of our age. He was born in
April 1939 in Castledawson, Ireland and died on the 30th of August 2013. He grew
up in his family farm house in County Derry being the eldest sibling of 9 in the
family. His father, Patrick Heaney focused on a cattle dealers way of life, whereas
his mother, Margaret McCann obtained connections with the modern world. The
poet believed he grasped significant tension and contrast through his parentage
between speech and silence, convinced that opposites truly do attract. At the age of
12 Heaney was awarded a scholarship to St. Columb s College, followed by years of
transfers and then finally moving to the Irish Republic and from 1982 was regularly
teaching in America, which basically proposed his poetrycareer.
The wordsmith from Ireland he was named was awarded the Nobel Prize in
Literature, with his poetry achieving great critical acclaim and popularity. The three
poems I annotated; Mid Term Break , Follower and Twice Shy are examples of
either tradition or events from Northern Ireland. Heaney was deeply influenced by the
country lifestyle which alternatively profound expression within his poetry. Heaney
was an observant man who analysed and understood the time evolving. As well as
obtaining a mastery in the English Language had provided his poetry to be an

The Crime Of Crime And Crime
Crime is everywhere. It dominates news broadcasts and newspapers. It also takes
up the majority of television shows and movies. As well as a great deal of fiction
novels and books. Controlling and fighting crimes are essential for the safety of
citizens. Also the credibility and power of a government are affected greatly by how
they handle crimeand deal with criminals. When a crime takes place, the part that
fascinates people the most is how the offender is captured and brought to justice
(Nathan, 2005, p 29 34).
Nowadays, nearly all serious crimes are solved with the help of one or more police
investigators, police officers, witness testimonies, and the help of psychological
profilers and forensics.
Science has great contributions in the detection of crime and controlling criminals.
The advancement in DNA identification and a variety of forensic procedures help in
solving many crimes as it is portrayed in fictional television shows such as CSI.
Contributions from psychology are slowly emerging to keep up with these
developments from the natural sciences. There are many different ways in which
psychology can contribute to police work. All are brought up together under the field
of investigative psychology.
The contributions that psychologist can make to police investigations have been
most widely known and understood in terms of offender profiles . Offender profiling

Sherman Alexie s The Summer Of Black Widows
Author, Sherman Alexie, in her poem The Summer of Black Widows uses
perspective and metaphor to differentiate how the Native Americans viewed the
spiritual purpose of spiders. His purpose was to reflect how two generations differed
in their vision the importance of the culture and nature around them by comparing a
spider and stories. Alexie uses the two rhetorical devices to contrast how nature was
viewed from today and back then. Alexie includes the perspective of a younger and
older native american generation. The poem begins with the elders having the
knowledge of spiders who carried stories, then shifting to the adolescents trying to get
rid of the spiders. Although, both had very little knowledge about the spiders and

Spiders are overlooked as creepy, boring, and useless because they are found
everywhere and aren t very beneficial. Stories in our cereal boxes. Stories in our
firewood. Stories in the pockets of our coats. However, spiders also have
compelling characteristics to them such as killing and hunting down their preys.
Just like a story, many people believe that it is dull and pointless, but beyond the
first layer are more interesting things. In the poem, the Natives captured, poisoned
and gathered the spiders. The repercussion is that neither fire, water, nor rock or
wind can erase the bundles of stories left behind, therefore the natives won t have
the ability to erase them either. This is comparable to a story because once a story
is told, nothing can erase what was already once said. If a person who told a story
dies, the story can no longer be retrieved, retold and passed on. It was important to
the Native elders to keep the spiders alive so that the stories they carried could be
passed onto their culture. All cultures have their own unique stories; without stories,
it wouldn t be a culture. With this in mind, spiders were like stories that should be

Habeas Corpus Research Paper
Introduction
How powerful is the law? The laws of armed conflict grandly and euphemistically
called international humanitarian law have never been better cultivated by so many
jurists, yet somehow hundreds of thousands of Iraqis managed to die after our 2003
invasion, with a perhaps greater number perishing due to the economic sanctions
between our Gulf Wars (Madar, 2014). Within today s society we have criminals of
all kinds. These criminal s may truly not be criminals, they are just labeled with this
term and held under lock and key until proven not guilty. Here in the United States
they claim one is innocent until proven guilty. This is why Habeas Corpus was put
into place, to protect said criminals from being detained for no apparent ... Show more

The United States adopted and ratified Habeas Corpus on September 17, 1787.
With the Judiciary Act of 1789 the U.S. Congress gave the federal courts the power
to issue writs of Habeas Corpus. In the War of 1812, General Jackson declared
martial law and took several detainees and blocked their released even after a writ
of Habeas Corpus was issued by a judge. In the 1860 s a civilian named Lambdin
Milligan was sentenced to death in a military proceeding and used a Habeas
petition to challenge President Johnson s military commissions. In this case the
Supreme Court ruled Ex Parte Milligan that the military commissions didn t have
any jurisdiction over the civilian and granted him to freedom. As stated above in
1871 when the Ku Klux Klan Act was passed, President Ulysses S. Grant
suspended the writ of Habeas Corpus due to the several South Carolina counties that
began to riot in rage. Habeas Corpus was suspended in the Philippines in 1902 by
President Roosevelt and the governor of the Philippines due to ongoing rebellion. In
1941 the Congress authorized the governor of Hawaii to temporarily suspend Habeas
Corpus in response to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. In the twentieth century,
after the Oklahoma City Bombing, President Clinton signed the Antiterrorism and
Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996, this limited the instances under which a federal
court could issue a habeas writ. Back in
Carbon Dioxide Is Able To Influence Emissions
Carbon FRQ
a)Carbon is able to form covalent bonds with hydrogen and other atoms because it
has four valence electrons. Because carbon needs eight total electrons when its
orbital is filled, it needs to form four more bonds with other atoms. Also, since it is
able to form bonds with four other atoms, carbon has the potential to form single,
double, or triple bonds.
b)The greenhouse effect refers to radiation from the sun as it warms the earth. This is
caused by the presence of several greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide being one of
them. Carbon dioxide is formed when carbon compounds undergo oxidation
reactions. Carbon dioxide helps confine heat in the earth s atmosphere as it reflects
from the sun to the earth, and thus contributes to the
Essay on The Silences in Mansfield Park
The silences in Mansfield Park reveal the nature of each character. Fanny s silences
reveal her inner self, the core of morals. They reveal that while Fanny looks like a
timid, frail being but inside she possess a set of principle that are unyielding to any
outside force. Through her silence, Fanny becomes the selfless conscience of
Mansfield Park. Fanny is strong willed in her steady continual silence. She is sole
unmoving thing in a fluid, ever moving time.
Fanny grew up in a large, ever growing household, where quiet was so hard to come
by. In the Price household, Fanny was the opposite of her family. She was timid and
shy; they were rambunctious. Fanny as already started to form her own demur. When
Fanny arrives at Mansfield Park, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without their conscience, they do things against the principles of the age. After a
period of solitude, the other walking trio finds her. This trio is talking about what
changes need to occur at Sotherton; they talk about movement. Fanny stays quiet in
the conversation until after Mr. Rushworth has gone to fetch a key to unlock the
gate, leaving Henry and Maria as a pair. Henry starts to tempt Maria into doing
something against what her principle should allow her to do. Fanny, feeling all this
to be wrong, could not help making an effort to prevent it. (93) Fanny begins to act
as Maria s conscience, but Maria won t allow Fanny to be her conscience. She jumps
and follows Henry away from her principles like her brother followed Henry s sister.
Fanny continually remains in the background for the duration of the play. Fanny
listens to each person s opinion on what play they should perform, a comedy or a
tragedy. Fanny does not add anything to the group because she knows it to be
inappropriate that a play should be performed without Sir Thomas s consent.
Edmund speaks as a part of the conscience of Mansfield Park, saying what Fanny
thinks. Even after a play is decided upon, Fanny remains silent in background like a
conscience weighing on a person s mind. After the theater troupe starts to practice the
play, Fanny helps with the sewing for the play, helping but not participating in the
inappropriate act. She helps because
Neverland and Peter and Wendy by James Matthew Barrie
Closing the Window (draft 5)
On these magic shores children at play are for ever breaching their coracles. We too
have been there; we can still hear the sound of the surf, though we shall land no more.
Romantic children s literature for time immemorial has allowed its audience to
imagine the unimaginable, to believe in the magical, to explore uncharted territory
and to see themselves in and through the lives of the characters. These tales expose
their audiences to the opportunities, and the freedom that can only be accessed in the
time of childhood innocence or in fond remembrance of this time of wonder. Over
one hundred years ago, when Sir James Matthew Barrie wrote Peter and Wendy, he
created Neverland, the ultimate childhood utopia the home of eternal youth. This
fantastical island, nicely crammed to ensure that adventures are never far between,
can only be accessed by flight; and so for the Darling children, this meant thinking
happy thoughts and being sprinkled with fairy dust enabling them to fly out of their
bedroom window to Peter Pan s permanent address: second star to the right and
straight on till morning , assured that mother would always leave the window open
for her children to fly back .
However, in the changed society of the 21st century, the archetype of the puer
aeternus seems lost. In a world where the name Peter Pan is attached to the stigma
of a diagnosis, we are far less forgiving of naivetГ© than we once were. Rather,

Examples Of Scapegoats In The Crucible
Scapegoating in the Crucible A scapegoat is someone who is blamed for mistakes
of another, usually for someone to avoid a sticky situation. We all have done it one
way or another in hope to escape some trouble, but the crucible takes it to a whole
new level. In the crucible it is not about just being grounded for a couple days, it is
about life and death. Throughout the crucible there are multiple cases of
scapegoating as characters try to avoid being thrown in jail or hanged. Abigail is the
biggest culprit of using scapegoats to cast the light on someone else rather than
herself. Abigail realizes at the beginning of the play that if she blames someone else

The McCarthy hearings in the 1950s were during the red scare when many people
were pointing fingers at each other. Like the Salem witch trials, McCarthyism was
a crazy period of time, and there was mass hysteria. The red scare was when
everyone believed there were communist in the United States. Miller is trying to
point out the similarities between McCarthyism and the Salem witch trials. He is
trying to open people s eyes and hopefully make people think twice before they

Compare And Contrast Essay On Putin And Orange
Revolution
Putin and Orange Revolution
24 September 2011 was a significant day when Vladimir Putin announced that he
would run again for president. That was the first open and clear statement that there
is no hesitation and he is the next Russian president. It became clear for many
Russians that their opinion was disregarded, that nothing actually depended on their
votes and nothing would change. The following government election and protest
actions have drawn attention of the whole world including common Russians, whose
political interest and activity had not been always the same before.

Russian government and Putin have shown almost no reaction to the most important
fact happened since Soviet times. It was stressed that it was normal that the
opposition were not pleased with the election results, but those people are a minority.
Navalny was accused of extremism and working at the behest of the US state
department to generate an Orange style Revolution. The following government
organized protest actions called the Anti Orange protest were meant to show that the
pro Putin part is the majority. Those Russians who are against Putin and his politic
were named extremists, who are against Russia and for Revolution . Putin compared
the opposition white ribbon symbol to a condom and said that 50000 people who
took part in the protests must have received money for this action which is sponsored
by the US government.
What is next?
It is clear to everyone that it is the high time for changes and it is not acceptable
anymore to ignore the evidence of a new environment, new political and social
situation, and there should be a new approach. The wrong thing is just ignoring this
and pretending that everything what has happened for the last months is just a
normal process, trying to „fit broken pieces together and covering everything by
faking media reports or downplaying the significance of the whole protest campaign.
There is a significant „turbulence and there is a high need in changing the

The Importance Of Transformative Discovery In William...
It is through challenging circumstances and experiences of loss that transformative
discoveries are made, often provoking a change in mindset and significantly
impacting upon a person or a whole. Whilst these challenges can be negative,
confronting circumstances can also lead to a positive transformation. William
Shakespeare s play The Tempest(1610) and Nando Parado s autobiographical recount
Miracle in the Andes(2006) explore the notion of transformative discovery
particularly as a result of difficult and confronting circumstances, which prompt us
to asses both our identity and the power of love and forgiveness to reshape our
mindset. Loss can be one of the most provoking of challenges, acting as a catalyst
for a significant shift in perspective, often negatively. In the Tempest, Alonso in
particularly experiences a negative change in attitude after realising the nature of his
new situation. His naivety and hopeful attitude at the beginning of the play is
emphasised, Good boatswain, have care. Where s the master? Play the men, but as
the survivors situation becomes more dire, this attitude begins to pessimistically
evolve. His constant ordering and questioning poses a dramatic irony to the
audience when finally he is confronted with the discovery of his son s
disappearance, no, no he s gone, with the repetitive clichГ© of denial after loss
serving as a significant discovery, completely transforming Alonso s attitude from
naive and pompous to deflated and desperate,
Abstract -crankshafts Are An Integral Part Of An...
Abstract Crankshafts are an integral part of an automobile engine. The crankshaft
undergoes various loads and stresses during operation. A crankshaft is responsible in
conjunction with the piston rod for converting the linear movement of piston into
rotary movement. In this paper we represent FEA analysis and topology optimization
of 2 wheeler crankshaft. In this paper represents detail about the project. In this
project, the crankshaft will be analyzed and suitable changes for weight optimization
will be made in the crankshaft. The main objectives in this project are to analyze and
find out the low stress regions on the crankshaft and try and reduce weight of the
crankshaft by eliminating the low stress regions from the crankshaft. In... Show more

The shape and size of crankshaft depends on the number and arrangement of
cylinders. It is usually made by steel forging, but some makers use special types of
cast iron such as spheroidal graphitic or nickel alloy castings which are cheaper to
produce and have good service life.
Fig. 1.2: Crankshaft
There are other components in the I.C. Engine like Bearings, Flywheel, spark plug,
fuel pump and carburetor but majority of the parts contributing in the mechanism are
explained above.
NEED OF PROJECT:
Crankshaft is one of the most important moving parts in internal combustion engine.
Crankshaft is a large component with a complex geometry in the engine, which
converts the reciprocating displacement of the piston into a rotary motion. It is
essential that crankshaft is designed with consideration of dynamic loading and with
modern engineering techniques with good factor of safety. At the same time it is
important to reduce the weight of any component of the automobile even if by the
slightest without compromising function of the component. As reduction in the
weight helps us improving carbon footprint of the vehicle and reduce the effect of
emission on the environment as well as have more economical transport by
increasing fuel efficiency of the vehicle.

Ups Strike
UPS Strike In early August of 1997 the United Parcel Service (UPS) had a
predicament on its hands, a teamsters strike. UPS, the world s largest package
distribution company was coming off a year [1996] in which they reported sales of
$22.4 billion. UPS Employed 75,000 management and non union employees
compared with 185,000 teamsters who are part of the AFL CIO that were going on
strike. The teamsters rejected a contract extension offer from the company leaving the
fate of millions of packages carrying everything from lobsters to laser printers up in
the air (Johnson).
Tensions between union supporters and management began mounting in the years
preceding the strike. In April of 1994, the International Union led a three week strike

that his future was up in the air, Cortez and others sharing his interests would unite
and keep the union members on the picket line as long as necessary (http:/

During the 15 day strike many businesses suffered. One business, Mail Boxes Etc.,
saw its shipping volume drop by 75%. Commenting on the situation, they stated that
they diverted as much as they can of their shipping to other carries but it is difficult
for other carriers to absorb 80% of the shipping for the entire state [New Jersey]. All

faced the impact of the strike. With speculation surrounding government intervention
in resolving the strike, UPS kept a skeleton operation going with management behind
the wheels of the company s famous brown trucks. One company normally running
with 150 local drivers moving 40,000 packages a day continued running with 80
drivers from the management staff (Business News New Jersey). Another industry
affected by the strike was the movie business. One firm, Technicolor Entertainment
Services, handles distribution for several major studios promised to

Assessment: Lite orange juice Project
1. Define the term incremental cash flow . Since the project will be financed in part
by debt, should the cash flow analysis include the interest expense?
Incremental cash flow is the additional operating cash flow that an organization
receives from taking on a new project. A positive incremental cash flowmeans that
the company s cash flow will increase with the acceptance of the project.
Cash flow analysis should not include the interest expense. We discount project cash
flows with a cost of capital that is the rate of return required by all investors. Interest
expenses are part of the costs of capital. If we subtracted them from cash flows, we
would be double counting capital costs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The opportunity cost of renting the plant is included in the analysis as a after tax
cost (cash outflow) because it will not be earned as a result of utilizing the asset for
the project.
The cannibalization on Classic orange juice is a type of externality that should be
included in the analysis as after tax cost (cash outflow) because the new project takes
sales away from the existing product.
The new project requires an increase in inventories in year 0 and year 3. This will
change the net working capital. It will represent an outflow for year 0 and 3, and an
inflow when the project terminates because we will recover it.
5. The project is assumed to end in year 4. Do you think that this is realistic? Can
you estimate the value of the project s operating cash flows beyond year 4? State any
assumptions you made.
This project is reasonable and worth to take it. It will add more value to the
company since its NPV is positive and has an attractive IRR and MIRR (higher
than WACC). Moreover, the breakeven occurs in year two, in the middle of the
project lifecycle, which is a good sign as well.
Calculations to estimate the following years 5 and 6 are done in the excel tab called

The goals of the first assignment are to learn and execute proper document
formatting, resource and data gathering, data analysis, and to demonstrate
knowledge of plagiarism. In order to successfully complete the first assignment, I
will complete a short series of tasks to help get me started. First, I read all
supporting documentation on the formatting of the assignment. Then, I read through
the assignment and found some information in the tasks that I had questions on.
Knowing the assignments tasks, I will gather a short list of reliable resources to
help get me started. Next, I will look up background information that I need more
knowledge on. For example, I need to look up what the boiling points and enthalpy
of vaporization of straight chain 1 monochloroalkanes are. I have not taken Organic
Chemistry and this may by my weakness, so I will have to do extra background
research. Using my knowledge of general chemistry and Microsoft office, I will
practice data gathering and formatting, data analysis, and communication skills in
this first assignment. For task one, we are required to find eight straight chain 1
monochloroalkanes, eight 1 alchohols, and eight 1 monofluoroalkanes. Many online
databases list compounds like these and report specific or averaged scientific data.
For example, PubChem, NIST, and Chemspider all have reputable data with sources
listed for each data point. Following the assignment formatting guidelines, I will
construct a table the 24 compounds

research problem. Further, it provides insight for the reader as to why this problem
is significant, and what the researcher s perspectives are on the problem (Maryville

for the audience. The timeframe to complete the introduction for the capstone project
has initially been outlined as seven days. The purpose for such a short duration is
secondary to previous course work that has helped to narrow the topic to a reasonable
research question. Further refinement may be necessary, but the question should be

Also, the review should capture what is known about the topic. Literature review
helps the reader to connect the dots between what is known, and how this project
can lead to new knowledge in the area of study. There are numerous ways for a
literature review to be completed. For example, chronologically, topically, or by
articles that agree and disagree with the topic. Layout of the literature review is up
to the author. Again, a decent start for literature review is underway. The articles
that are under review from previous course work will more than likely need to be
refined as more skill is developed in the art of literature review, but the work is
started. The completed reviews also bring refinement in further research as new
knowledge is developed with each article reviewed. Not to mention the articles that
are reviewed and rejected. Even though they are ultimately rejected, there is always
knowledge gained by their evaluation. There are 15 more articles to be researched
and analyzed for their inclusion in the capstone project. As mentioned earlier these
articles will help to shed light on the identified problem, and begin to lead the way
for how knowledge gained in these evidence based studies can help pave the way for
new knowledge required to complete the capstone project. 21 days have been allotted
to this aspect of the project. It takes considerable time to find quality studies, analyze,
and synthesize the content, and then summarize this

Seven in 10 seniors who graduated from public and nonprofit colleges in 2013 had
a student loan debt with an average of $28,400 per borrower
(________________________). Debt is a duty or obligation to pay money or
render service under an express or implied agreement. So when one takes out a
student loan one has made an agreement with the lender to borrow money for a
certain amount of time. Every semester the cost continues to rise for college students
across the country. Instead of considering only tuition when applying for school,
prospective students should research the area they will relocate too. Students go to
school set on one finical assumption which is inane. Monthly ,scholars will pay
approximately $800 1,000 to live excluding tuition. The increase of tuition is seen as a
fait accompli, so students can almost count on an increase every year. Although
college loans can be pernicious to the future, being proactive by effectively managing
their debtcan obviate this issue.
For many families it is nearly impossible to obtain a college education without
borrowing money. There are a numerous amount of student loans which scholars are
eligible .These loans come in many different sizes, and regulation for the loans may
differ. Stafford and Perkins loans are the two most popular federal loans. Loans that
are given out by the government are called federal student loans, borrowers are
offered lower interest rates and flexible repayment options. These loans are

The players had to go to a poor neighborhood to shoot a marketing commercial for
the World Cup playing with some kids. That was perfect for the president goals
because it would prove that black people did not hate the team anymore, show the
country they could be united and support the Springboks together. The players,
except the captain, did not want to go (about 56min), because they thought it would

François told them they had to go because they were more than a team now, they

How to Make Tamales
**This recipe is very similar to Tamale s Industry, but this recipe uses Masa Mix
(Which Tamale s Industry does not use). This is the recipe and preparation that we
give out, the true recipe and preparation is Family Secret. This is still a good way
for others to make tamales**
Start with the equipment you need:
Before beginning your tamale adventure, you re going to need some important tools
of the trade. Some substitutions can of course be made, but we ll show you what we
prefer.
Large steaming vessel: We use a large stainless pot with a glass lid and a large
perforated steaming basket. The larger the better. Although tamales are certainly
worth the trouble, fact is they can be a decent amount of work. You wouldn t want to

That s the cooking of the meat, and the soaking of the corn husks. These steps take
time and if you don t allow for them, they ll throw off your whole day.
Let s start with cooking the meat. The best way to do this is the night before
tamale day. You ll need two large pots. Cut the pork roast into 5 or 6 large chunks.
Place the chicken in one pot and the roast in the other and cover both with water.
This is also a fun place to throw in some garlic cloves, onion slices, or anything else
you think might serve the meat well. Bring to a boil. The chicken will be done in
about 2 hours, the roast will need at least 2 ВЅ hours.
While the meats are cooking (if you re doing this all in one day), start soaking the
Corn Husks. You need to soak them submerged in warm water for at least 2 hours to
make them soft and pliable.
When the meats are done, let them cool in their liquid. If you have enough
refrigerator space, you can place them and their pots in the fridge overnight. This will
not only cool the meat, but also solidify the fat on top, making it easier to remove.
Remove both meats from their stock, but save the stock! This is a key ingredient
later on.
Now take the skin from the chicken and debone it shredding the meat with your
fingers. Shred the pork in a similar fashion while discarding as much fat out of the
meat as possible. Combine both of the meats.
In a small pot on the stove, warm 1/2 C of Corn Oil 6 Tbsp Chili
Determining the Underlying Causes of Asthma Essay
Asthma is the most common worldwide chronic condition that affects both young
and old. It is a condition in which the air way passages are narrowed leading to
symptoms of wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and cough (Bijanzadeh,
Mahesh, Nallur 1). Asthma is caused by increased infiltration of inflammatory cells
into the airway, constriction, airway smooth muscle hypertrophy, and mucous
hypersecretion in the bronchiolar walls of the lung (Bijanzadeh, Mahesh, Nallur 1).
Most asthmaattacks are short, a few minutes to a few hours, and the person recovers
completely this is called episodic asthma disease. However, those who have acute
severe asthma is much more serious because the asthma attacks lasts for days or
weeks, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the people involved in this study observed the degree of expression of asthma
within genetically similar populations they discovered that asthma between children
of similar genetic ancestry that live in different environments have significant
differences in prevalence rates (Subbarao, Mandhane, and Sears 182). The results
included Chinese children who lived in China had a lower prevalence rate, Chinese
who were born in China but migrated to Canada had an intermediate rate, and
Chinese students who were born and lived in Canada had the greatest prevalence rate
(Subbarao, Mandhane, and Sears 182). In addition, the non Chinese children living in
Canada still had a greater prevalence rate compared to the Chinese children living
there (Subbarao, Mandhane, and Sears 182). This result from this study strongly
supports their hypothesis of gene by environment interactions in which people with
similar genetic makeup inherit sensitivity to the effects of various environmental risk
factors.
However on the other hand whether genetics plays an important role in the
development of asthma has been strongly accepted as numerous family and twin
studies have been made. Genome wide linkage studies and case control studies have
identified 18 genomic regions and more than 100 genes associated with allergy and
asthma in 11 different populations (Subbarao, Mandhane, and Sears

Trip Essay Example

  • 1. Trip Essay Example Crafting an essay on the topic of a trip may seem deceptively simple at first glance, as recounting personal experiences often appears straightforward. However, delving into the intricacies of narrating a journey demands a nuanced approach. The difficulty lies not only in the recounting of events but also in capturing the essence of the trip, making it engaging for the reader. To begin with, one must navigate the balance between providing sufficient detail and avoiding excessive minutiae. Too much detail can lead to a monotonous narrative, while too little may leave the reader disconnected from the experience. Finding the right level of descriptive language requires a delicate touch, ensuring that the reader can vividly imagine the surroundings without feeling overwhelmed. Furthermore, the challenge extends to structuring the essay coherently. A trip essay isn't just a chronological sequence of events; it's an opportunity to weave a compelling story. The writer must decide on the narrative arc, determining where to build suspense, introduce reflections, or emphasize pivotal moments. This structural complexity adds an additional layer of difficulty to the writing process. Moreover, capturing the emotional nuances of the journey can be challenging. Conveying the feelings experienced during the trip—whether excitement, awe, frustration, or introspection—requires a skillful use of language. Striking the right emotional chord ensures that the reader not only comprehends the events but also connects with the personal and transformative aspects of the journey. In conclusion, while the prospect of writing a trip essay might initially seem straightforward, the task is rife with challenges. The writer must deftly balance descriptive detail, craft a compelling narrative structure, and skillfully convey the emotional resonance of the journey. It is through this intricate interplay of elements that a truly engaging trip essay emerges. For those seeking assistance with similar essays or any writing challenges, various resources are available, including online platforms like HelpWriting.net, where expert writers can provide guidance and support for a diverse range of topics. • 2. Patient Satisfaction After Surgical Procedures Consumer Reports conducted the study, in the article, in an attempt to identify what hospitals offer the best quality of service, including how safe hospitals are ranked after surgical procedures. Overall surgery ratings for 27 types of surgeries are identified in the article, based on a percentage of Medicare patients that die in hospitals or have their stay in the hospitalextended beyond the original length expected. The medical based rating were developed statistically working with a health care consulting firm that specialized in analyzing medical claims and clinical records. The patient satisfaction information is based upon a survey of millions of patients regarding recent hospital stays. The patient satisfaction survey was completed with the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, or HCAHPS. This survey rated overall patient experience based on the average responses to two survey questions. The percentage of patients who said they would definitely recommend the hospital; and the percentage of patients who responded that the hospital received an overall rating of 9 or 10 on a scale of 0 to 10. (Consumer Reports, 2013) Understanding the Ratings Overall The ratings provided in the article are for 2,463 of the United States acute care or critical care type hospitals and the focus is Medicare type in patient services, and implies that the same care received by other patients not insured by Medicare at these hospitals. The ratings are
  • 3. Got His Gun By Dalton Trumbo And Ron Kovic s Johnny Got... The typical country does not approve of citizens killing other beings, and yet the typical country approves of war. War is the term for legalized mass murdering that is organized being that not all countries can simply live in harmony with one another. Like most horrible things, it causes more problems than it solves. The effects of this glorified engagement are demonstrated and analyzed within the novels Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumboand Born on the Fourth of July by Ron Kovic. These two novels are the stories of two soldiers who went into two different wars that caused them to deal with great change that would alter their lives forever. Even though these novels accentuate the concept of soldier s overcoming obstacles, they moreso focus on the adversity of saying goodbye, isolation, and sacrifice that many soldiers must deal with. To begin, both authors discuss the hardships people must go through in order to become soldiers, especially that of having to leave behind loved ones. In Dalton Trumbo s Johnny Got His Gun, he expresses and details the difficulty that many soldiers must go through when he writes about Joe Bonham having to say goodbye to his family and girlfriend. For example, in chapter three it states, Oh Joe Joe I don t want you to go. You think I want to go? I m afraid. (Trumbo 34). In this quote, it is the day before Joe Bonham s departure, and his girlfriend, Kareen, is expressing her fear in him leaving. This shows Bonham s determination to
  • 4. Minimum Wage Vs Living Wage We have heard the argument that families just need to learn to live within their means, but with ever increasing expenses like housing, healthcare, goods and services, combined with ever decreasing wages, our economy is a recipe for disaster. While some argue that the minimum wage should be raised to a living wage, others argue that any increase in the minimum wagewould spell disaster for employers and destroy any economic growth. Minimum wage versus a living wage . Minimum wage is defined as: the lowest wage paid or permitted to be paid; specifically: a wage fixed by legal authority or by contract as the least that may be paid either to employed persons generally or to a particular category of employed persons (Merriam Webster,2017) . While this is the legal minimum which you can be paid, it is not the minimum amount an individual needs to live on. That requirement is now often referred to as the minimum living wage and defined as: a wage sufficient to provide the necessities and comforts essential to an acceptable standard of living persons (Merriam Webster,2017) . It is interesting to note that the term, acceptable standard of living , does not imply that individual or those individuals will be living a lavish lifestyle, or have sufficient funds in savings to support them in times of hardship, or investing in their future retirement. Instead of focusing on the national problem, I will try to keep look at things as they are here in Portland, Oregon. In the
  • 5. How to Choose a Career Essay Many pastors often will have the little children of the church ushered to the front to speak with them briefly. In a playful manner he asks them, what are they going to be when they grow up? It is amazing how the majority of them say with such confidence what they will be someday. And in the congregation sits me, a returning college student who decided to do a three sixty and pursue a different career. One of the major factors in a career is that it will give an individual flexible time with family and friends. The salary often is the deciding factor for some in choosing a career; in fact, the careers of my choice all had great pay in salary. Although, the majority of the responsibility of a case is in the paralegal hands; however, it is the attorney expertise in a particular matter that structure a case. Individuals as paralegals have the opportunity to participate in the legal field rather then becoming a lawyer to further their passion. The amount of time a paralegal spends researching for a case may overshadow personal responsibilities depending on the need of the client and lawyer. Because of this, a paralegal may have to work for a private attorney to be more adjustable to a personal situation that might occur. Second, a career in journalism can be industrious for an individual. In the article Journalism: Toward an Accountable Profession, Richard P. Cunningham states, The public cannot know on the basis of the news report itself whether the report is reliable (15). Journalism would be a career where the source(s) have to be credible. For example, a career in journalism an individual writes, edit, publish, or report news all the time. • 6. Sons Of Liberty Thesis A thank you is owed to the Sons of Liberty for the sacrifices they gave for the sake of the American citizens and their daily freedoms. They gave up their liberty to walk down the street without having to constantly look over their shoulder to make sure there were no British soldiers in sight. Rather than just staying in the shadows, they all showed their faces. To prove that they would not buckle under pressure, they wrote a list of every member s name. Like most everyday hero, these members never backed away from a battle. They stepped into the ring and fought their way to the independence Americans have today. The attempt that followed in their path to control over the colonists was the Tea Act. The Tea Act of 1773 stated that all tea products had lowered prices to try to convince the colonists to approve of their tax, but that only led to angry colonists and the Boston Tea Party (Andrilk). The idea to try taxing the colonists was an irrational move made by the Bostonian Empire. The Sons of Liberty had already made their plans fail two major times, so trying for a third time was just a poor move. The Sons of Liberty boycotted and chased ships away from the harbor before threatening the ship captains that they would cover them in tar and feathers (Brooks). Before the whole story of the actual Boston Tea Party gets started, it should be informed that the Sons of Liberty technically warned the British before doing anything insane. The British just kept sending ships of tea anyways. After the story of the Sons of Liberty started to spread through the colonies, a group of revolutionaries acquired inspiration in another state convinced a ship owner to burn his own ship down (Morton). That genius group genuinely did not do anything wrong at all. They just said several obstructions to convince that captain to burn his ship down with his own, personal free will. When a few other ships from London
  • 7. Reflection Of Education While these are good values to have when starting my career as an educator, these abstract thoughts aren t going to get me anywhere unless I am able to translate them into practice. Upon reflection about how to do so, I was able to come up with a few ways on how to get these thoughts into educational practice. One important practice is to institute effective, positive and accurate communication with parents as soon as possible. Starting off the year with parent teacher conferences as early as possible will start off the year on a good note while finding out as much as possible about the...familys goals for their child s learning and development (YC). This will ensure that everyone is on the same page going into the year and they can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This extra work that the teachers need to put in is tripled for the parents; they have been dealing with their child and their needs since birth. Respecting and appreciating [this] extra work and being able to include positive comments about their child s successes and not just their shortcomings will go a long way in building up the respect from parents (YC). We need to keep in mind that some parents have had a long history of working with the government and other professionals that haven t been helpful and they might assume that you won t assist their child either. This is a challenge that can be addressed when first speaking to the parents and communicating with them that you are here to help and describe various ways to provide supports. Along with communication with the families, an important part of building a cohesive classroom is having techniques on controlling behaviors. This will include, in some instances, an FBA and BiP to curtail specific problem behaviors. For the most part, I will try and implement PBIS and other styles, like group contingency strategies, to manage my classroom. I hope that my class will respect me and therefore listen to the rules that we have in place. During the first day, as a class, we will come up with a rules list that is simple yet pervasive. After putting into effect these rules, the consequences will be clearly stated.
  • 8. Miletus In Ancient Greece Ancient Greece has played an important role in the establishment of later civilizations. Ancient Greece had a strong influence in the Mediterranean area especially after the eighth century BC until the rise of Ancient Rome. One important factor of Ancient Greek society is the formation and organization of government and the city state. Miletus is one of the many Greek cities states that played a prominent role during this time period. Miletus had a changing and growing governmental system due to the many internal and external influences. Miletus was a major player in Ionia. Thales of Miletus was one of the wisest men of the ancient times. He is seen as the father of Pre Socratic Greek philosophy. He applied his knowledge of the natural causes of the world and originated the science of metaphysics. Thales will be followed by other great thinkers like the philosophers Anaximander, who learned from Thales, and Anaximenes, who was a student of Anaximander. They also had influence in the other humanities like the historian Hecataeus who was interested in geography, and the poet Phocylides who was known for his honest words, and the famous city planner

My Experiences in a Nursing Career Essay Nursing Nursing is an art: and if it is to be made an art, It requires an exclusive devotion as hard a preparation, as any painterВґs or sculptorВґs work; for what is the having to do with dead canvas or dead marble, compared with having to do with the living body, the temple of GodВґs spirit? It is one of the Fine Arts: I had almost said, the finest of Fine Arts. Spoken by a true nurse, Florence Nightingale; a pioneer of nursing and a reformer of hospital sanitation methods. I no longer want to become a medical doctor. I may in the far future decide to become a doctor but I would rather be a registered nurse because they deal with the patients more. I also prefer working with pediatric or gereatric patients. Whatever way that I decide to go I will always be helping someone, somewhere. I have looked at many colleges. I find myself lucky to be in Grand Forks, North Dakota. UND is an amazing school, with a highly recommended nursing program. North Dakota is one of the only states left that require a four year nursing degree. I looked in to going to the tech but decided that it was not the right choice for me since I am planning to stay in North Dakota. This would mean I would have to work in minnesota or take a job in North Dakota and work under a different title with less pay and benefits. Another benefit that accompanies going to a four year nursing program is if i wanted to higher my education it would be in my best interest to have the extra two years behind me. My next step in becomming a registered nursing is a little sidetracked. I want to be come a CMA. A CMA is a certified medical assistant. Once I become a CMA I will have more responsibility but it will be worth it. Becomming a CMA will help me in future classes at UND. I will have the backround of medications as well as a better understanding of patients. Going to
  • 10. Comparison Of Bobbi Brown And Eugene Schueller The two people I chose are Bobbi Brown, by Didi, and Eugene Schueller, by Mackenzie. I chose Eugene Schueller because he is the founder of a business that my mom loves and the story of how the business came to be was very inspiring, I also chose Bobbi Brown because I love her makeup products. I think that both entrepreneurs have very inspiring stories behind the creation of their brands. What stood out to me about Eugene Schueller was that he started off as a chemist and when he discovered the formula for hair dyes and makeup in school he began to invent many different formulas and dyes in his kitchen and had branched off since then. He started by selling to local salons and years later when others all over started to hear about his products

Students striving towards higher education opportunities is the goal. However, our graduation rates where they re suppose to be? According to CCPS Department of Communication, in 2012, the county, state, and nation s graduation percentage was 53.63%, 72.5%, and 81%. Even though the graduation quota at state and national level are distinctly larger than Clayton County s, increasing the students interest in their learningenvironment and creating tutoring halls will certainly aid in the progression to elevate graduation rate. For example, even during his moment of deep thought, Telemakhos is still very aware of his surroundings because he notices Athena standing alone at the gate of his house. The critic states that Telemakhos respectfully invites his guest into the house, offering her food and drinks. I believe that just like how sacrifices are offered up to the gods, directly welcoming a stranger who is at one s doorstep into the house and offering them food and shelter pleases the gods. Telemakhos s first reaction is described, He went straight to the front gate, indignant in his heart that a stranger had stood so long at the gate. He stood near her, grasped her right hand, and took her bronze spear (Homer qtd. in Race, 81). According to Race, Telemakhos feels awful having to witness his home being destroyed by suitors and at the same time making a stranger stand at his gate unwelcomed. In contrast to the suitors, who are probably much older than Telemakhos, I can see that Telemakhos is wise and understands that invading someone else s house is wrong. Similar to his father, Telemakhos is quick to say Greetings stranger. You will be welcome among us, and after having some dinner, you will tell what you need (Homer qtd. in Race, 82). I notice that Telemakhos not only feels remorse for not noticing the stranger, but he also senses that the stranger has

Each episode is a stand alone science fiction drama. The show uses dark satire in which technology creates a dystopia, eerily similar to what could happen in reality. The common theme in a few of the episodes is how the government influences and controls the people. Season two, episode two: White Bear. It begins with a woman, named Victoria, who wakes up with no memory, in a house, alone. She leaves to get help, but finds that all the other people are hiding in their houses, but when they see her, they come out to silently follow and record her on their phones. But in this episode, there were actual consequences. But more people voted after the deaths were linked to the hashtag. And it came back around at the end. The government had control by spying on the people with the drones, and that was the reason the technology was compromised. This episode is successful because it links government spying with social media. It shows how all technology is interconnected and that there are many outcomes that may lead to unintended consequences. Black Mirror has been largely successful since it has been out on Netflix. Before, it only aired in the UK, and had a small following. It is heavily influenced by The Twilight Zone, with self contained stories that are both science fiction set in a different time, but offer social commentary to today s problems. Because it hits so close to home, Black Mirror has become very popular, even years after it first came out. Since every episode is a stand alone, the creators can cover a wider range of topics without having to stick to the same plot, just the common theme of technology. So there is an episode for

According to Gladwell not anyone can become successful; it takes the right circumstances and opportunities. Obviously those who go on to succeed must have innate talent, but that is not the primary factor deciding whether they succeed or fail at the sport. The primary factor in how good they become at hockey is the better opportunities they received because of their age. When applying Gladwell s Outlier theory The outliers in a particular field reached their lofty status through a combination of ability, opportunity, and utterly arbitrary advantage (37) the birth date of the hockey players serves a crucial role and is just an arbitrary advantage. The coaches should not place the same expectations on the younger players or the younger players should be put in a younger league more suitable for them so they too can be given a chance to become great like those born in the earlier months. Since this doesn t happen though those born earlier are much more likely to become great, which provides a solid backing of Gladwell s Outlier theory. Wound Care Treatment For Burn Patients Wound care treatment for burn patients is a painful experience where pain relief options are limited or otherwise too expensive and dangerous such as general anaesthesia (Patterson Ptacek, 1997). Burn patients are given opioid based drugs like morphine to manage their pain but this rarely eradicates the paincompletely and some patients may find these drugs have little effect at all (Hoffman et al., 2004; Patterson, Hoffman, Palacios, Jensen, 2006; Patterson Ptacek, 1997). Burn patients undergoing wound care treatment experience increased pain in the early stages of recovery; more so than the initial incident of being burned. (Harandi, Esfandani, Shakibaei, 2004; Patterson Ptacek, 1997). Burn patients not only experience physical trauma but psychological trauma as well; as such, these factors can have an adverse effect on the patients recovery (Harandi et al., 2004). To provide additional pain relief and expedite recovery, several studies have been conducted to explore adjunctive pain relief methods that can be used frequently with minimum cost and risk. Rapid Induction Analgesia (RIA) and Virtual Reality Treatment (VRT) are two types of adjunctive treatments that researchers have investigated for managing burn patient pain (Patterson et al., 2006). Therefore, the current study investigated if a combination of RIA and VRT will produce a greater analgesic effect than VRT alone; and, to also determine if the environment in VRT has any effect on pain relief. Effect of Mannose on Shoot Formation of Eplants Results and Discussion Effect of mannose on shoot formation of explants As pBCAMBIA PMI contains the pmi gene which confers mannose resistance, we used the mannose as a selection agent in our transformation experiments. Nine different concentrations and combinations of mannose and sucrose in shoot regeneration medium were used to evaluate the effect of mannose on the organogenesis of non transformed tobacco leaf explants (Fig. 2). After 3 weeks cultivation, we found that no explants produced shoots on media without any tested carbon source (Fig. 2A). When cultivated on 30 gl 1 sucrose (0/30), 100% of the tobacco leaf explants regenerated. The organogenesis response decreased progressively when mannose concentration was increased in the shoot regeneration medium. A decreasing selectivity of mannose was also seen when 5 gl 1 sucrose was supplemented to the selection medium. Results show that the inhibitory effects of mannose increases with decreasing sucrose concentration in the medium, indicating an interaction between mannose and sucrose (Fig. 3). Similar results were described by Sigareva et al. (2004) in tomato as the addition of sucrose to the selection medium modulated the inhibitory effect of mannose on shoot formation. Earlier studies pointed that the indirect toxic effect of mannose caused by the conversion to mannose 6 phosphate by endogenous hexokinase increases with decreasing sucrose concentration in the medium, suggesting an interaction between mannose and

In the research paper by Bello (2012), the concept of ethical leader, including the characteristic of an ethical leader, the role it played in improving employee job performance and the development of such leaders (p.229). Through his research Bello (2012) found that employees are more willing to put an extra effort work more effectively when they are led by ethical leaders, which results in higher satisfaction. Employees related the level of trust in the organization with the level of ethic within the organization. Employees who perceived their leaders as unethical, were less likely to follow them and more likely to take advantage (Bello, 2012, p. 232). The level of an employee s commitment to the organization showed to also be impacted by the ethical or unethical practices of their leaders. When employees felt they were not treated fairly, their level of commitment drops, as did their job performance (Bello, 2012, p.233). O Toole (2009), connects the impact of leadership, ethics and corporate culture on employees and other stakeholders, such as shareholders and the community. Mr. Raymo uses a Rogerian style in his writing because he is trying to build common ground in his argument. He starts by talking about miracles and how we are taught fake stories when we are young. This is something majority of people can relate to. Then he explains how as we get older we acknowledge these miracles as lies because we disprove them scientifically. He also mentions that the concepts of science are miracles and based on that scientists form theories. So far his reasoning is logical. This helps his argument because more people will appeal to logical reasoning. He also provides strong evidence of religion and science working together when he writes about the experiment done on the Shroud of Turin. The Church officials allowed three distinct labs to use carbon dating to discover the age of the cloth. The findings were supported by the Church, and Pope John Paul II went on to speak of the relationship of science and religion,

His purpose was to reflect how two generations differed in their vision the importance of the culture and nature around them by comparing a spider and stories. Alexie uses the two rhetorical devices to contrast how nature was viewed from today and back then. Alexie includes the perspective of a younger and older native american generation. The poem begins with the elders having the knowledge of spiders who carried stories, then shifting to the adolescents trying to get rid of the spiders. Although, both had very little knowledge about the spiders and often made the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spiders are overlooked as creepy, boring, and useless because they are found everywhere and aren t very beneficial. Stories in our cereal boxes. Stories in our firewood. Stories in the pockets of our coats. However, spiders also have compelling characteristics to them such as killing and hunting down their preys. Just like a story, many people believe that it is dull and pointless, but beyond the first layer are more interesting things. In the poem, the Natives captured, poisoned and gathered the spiders. The repercussion is that neither fire, water, nor rock or wind can erase the bundles of stories left behind, therefore the natives won t have the ability to erase them either. This is comparable to a story because once a story is told, nothing can erase what was already once said. If a person who told a story dies, the story can no longer be retrieved, retold and passed on. It was important to the Native elders to keep the spiders alive so that the stories they carried could be passed onto their culture. All cultures have their own unique stories; without stories, it wouldn t be a culture. With this in mind, spiders were like stories that should be kept alive for its
  • 37. Habeas Corpus Research Paper Introduction How powerful is the law? The laws of armed conflict grandly and euphemistically called international humanitarian law have never been better cultivated by so many jurists, yet somehow hundreds of thousands of Iraqis managed to die after our 2003 invasion, with a perhaps greater number perishing due to the economic sanctions between our Gulf Wars (Madar, 2014). Within today s society we have criminals of all kinds. These criminal s may truly not be criminals, they are just labeled with this term and held under lock and key until proven not guilty. Here in the United States they claim one is innocent until proven guilty. This is why Habeas Corpus was put into place, to protect said criminals from being detained for no apparent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The United States adopted and ratified Habeas Corpus on September 17, 1787. With the Judiciary Act of 1789 the U.S. Congress gave the federal courts the power to issue writs of Habeas Corpus. In the War of 1812, General Jackson declared martial law and took several detainees and blocked their released even after a writ of Habeas Corpus was issued by a judge. In the 1860 s a civilian named Lambdin Milligan was sentenced to death in a military proceeding and used a Habeas petition to challenge President Johnson s military commissions. In this case the Supreme Court ruled Ex Parte Milligan that the military commissions didn t have any jurisdiction over the civilian and granted him to freedom. As stated above in 1871 when the Ku Klux Klan Act was passed, President Ulysses S. Grant suspended the writ of Habeas Corpus due to the several South Carolina counties that began to riot in rage. Habeas Corpus was suspended in the Philippines in 1902 by President Roosevelt and the governor of the Philippines due to ongoing rebellion. In 1941 the Congress authorized the governor of Hawaii to temporarily suspend Habeas Corpus in response to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. In the twentieth century, after the Oklahoma City Bombing, President Clinton signed the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996, this limited the instances under which a federal court could issue a habeas writ. Because carbon needs eight total electrons when its orbital is filled, it needs to form four more bonds with other atoms. We too have been there; we can still hear the sound of the surf, though we shall land no more. Romantic children s literature for time immemorial has allowed its audience to imagine the unimaginable, to believe in the magical, to explore uncharted territory and to see themselves in and through the lives of the characters. These tales expose their audiences to the opportunities, and the freedom that can only be accessed in the time of childhood innocence or in fond remembrance of this time of wonder. Over one hundred years ago, when Sir James Matthew Barrie wrote Peter and Wendy, he created Neverland, the ultimate childhood utopia the home of eternal youth. This fantastical island, nicely crammed to ensure that adventures are never far between, can only be accessed by flight; and so for the Darling children, this meant thinking happy thoughts and being sprinkled with fairy dust enabling them to fly out of their bedroom window to Peter Pan s permanent address: second star to the right and straight on till morning , assured that mother would always leave the window open for her children to fly back . However, in the changed society of the 21st century, the archetype of the puer aeternus seems lost. In a world where the name Peter Pan is attached to the stigma of a diagnosis, we are far less forgiving of naivetГ© than we once were. Rather, contemporary

  • 43. The Importance Of Transformative Discovery In William... It is through challenging circumstances and experiences of loss that transformative discoveries are made, often provoking a change in mindset and significantly impacting upon a person or a whole. Whilst these challenges can be negative, confronting circumstances can also lead to a positive transformation. William Shakespeare s play The Tempest(1610) and Nando Parado s autobiographical recount Miracle in the Andes(2006) explore the notion of transformative discovery particularly as a result of difficult and confronting circumstances, which prompt us to asses both our identity and the power of love and forgiveness to reshape our mindset. Loss can be one of the most provoking of challenges, acting as a catalyst for a significant shift in perspective, often negatively. In the Tempest, Alonso in particularly experiences a negative change in attitude after realising the nature of his new situation. His naivety and hopeful attitude at the beginning of the play is emphasised, Good boatswain, have care. Where s the master? His constant ordering and questioning poses a dramatic irony to the audience when finally he is confronted with the discovery of his son s disappearance, no, no he s gone, with the repetitive clichГ© of denial after loss serving as a significant discovery, completely transforming Alonso s attitude from naive and pompous to deflated and desperate,
