Steam Engines By Katelyn Warga 2nd Period
Steam Engines
By Katelyn Warga 2nd Period
Being around for over 2000 years, the steam engine has proved its worth. Invented in the industrial
revolution, this heat engine performs mechanical work using steam as its working fluid. Throughout
its time the steam engine has had many uses, and been modified many times to change its pronounced
task. This had led to the steam engine being a very important invention in the industrial revolution,
changing life in social and economic ways that still impact today. The steam engine drove the world
into an era of big business and production that is still evident today.
What is a Steam Engine?
A steam engine is a type of engine known as external combustion. In general, water is heated into
steam ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The condensed steam would create a vacuum, and add pressurized steam to move water. In 1712,
Thomas Newcomen took this idea and built on it, creating the atmospheric engine . It was the first
engine that used a piston, and was made for pumping in mines. But the first moving steam engine
came into play when James Watt patented a continuous rotary motion steam engine. It could be fueled
by water, coal, or wood. It had the capability to power manufacturing machines. This allowed factories
to locate in areas where no constant water source was available. Later, they could be applied to
locomotives and traction engines.
Why was the Steam Engine Invented?
The steam engine s initial use was for pumping mines back in the 1700 s. As technology evolved and
rotaries were applied, the engine was capable of much more. They could power factory machines such
as power looms and spinning mules. They later in the 1900 s powered modes of transportation such as
steamboats, railway locomotives, and cars. They lead to the widespread use of looms in factories,
driving change and the industrial revolution. The steam engine s overall use was to power things.
How does the Steam Engine Change Our Lives Today?
The steam engine has had major impacts on society, and not just during the industrial revolution. It s
creation still affects us even today. Back then, the invention of the steam locomotive spread fast and

Rhetorical Essay Conclusion
One of the main things Thoreau tries to highlight throughout the Conclusion is the importance of
being one s self. He states, If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he
hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away. I
believe that Thoreau is making a statement and sharing his belief that it is not one s job to follow in
the footsteps of others. Thoreau wants each person to find what they are passionate about, and carve
their own path, no matter how different or unique that passion may be in the eyes of society. As I
continue to live my life, I find that this specific excerpt connects with a majority of us. Whether we
admit it or not, I believe that each person ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I use to constantly update my personality on what was popular at the time, never caring if my actions
truly were coming from me. I used them as a mask, throwing on whichever one I believed people
would accept at the time. I was scared of what others may think if they uncovered and found out about
the real me. Eventually I took a leap of faith and shed my final mask, which benefited me in numerous
ways. As I began to express my true self and speak of the various interests I enjoyed most, I began to
accumulate a new group of friends who accepted, and truly cared about the real me. I found that I
could carry out much deeper and more meaningful conversations within my new friend group, without
having to worry about the judgement that would typically come. I also found that when I spoke on my
love for hunting, fishing, automobiles or any of my other hobbies and passions, I found that numerous
people began to open up on their similar interests as well. Because of this experience, I began to
realize that all it takes is one person to break down a social barrier, and that deep down everyone has
interests and passions that they are holding back, and may just be waiting on someone else to open up

Running head: Computer Systems Architectures
Computer Systems Architectures
Kaplan University
Abstract
Computer architecture is a set of rules that say how software and hardware interact to create a network
or platform. In other words computer architecture is the design of the network base on the needs of the
user, the system if it is there or needs to be built, and the technology that needs to go into the project.
System design is all how all the hardware is set up while the instruction set architecture is the program
language.

A client/server architecture is an end to end systems that contains server hosts (contains the resources
and services needed by the client) and clients (users or workstations in the network). Most
client/server networks have more than one client to a server so that the system shares computing
power. There are a few different kinds of servers to include file sharing, printer services, email
services, database services, web services, and a server can used for it power. Clients can access all of
these different servers at one time and the servers can serve many clients. (Techopedia, 2014) For
large businesses with office throughout the country web based computing or cloud computing shows
the greatest benefit. In web based computing it is not the local computer doing all the work but rather
computers off site that do the work. The user s computer runs off of a cloud computing system s
interface software which uses the offsite network computers to do the work.
What OS file system should we use? I would recommend a Windows OS and file system. This is
because Windows is straight forward. There may be too many distributions of Linux, it s possible that
this is hurting Linux in the marketplace. It could be that the lack of a Linux distro from a major
computer company is also hurting it in the marketplace. (Horowitz, 2007) The type of architecture I
would use is a web based computing. This is

The Importance of Government Infrastructural Investment...
How Important is Government Infrastructural Investment for Nuclear Power Generation?
Introduction
In an era when many industry analysts project peak oil will be reached by mid century or sooner,
identifying opportunities to promote alternative energy sources assumes new importance and
relevance. This paper provides a review of the relevant literature to determine the importance of
government infrastructural investment for nuclear power generation. The research will show that these
investments are widely regarded as essential because of the high costs of nuclear development and
power generation. A discussion concerning the form government involvement assumes in the form of
policy statements regarded nuclear power is followed by an assessment concerning whether detailed
regulation should be used for the approval of nuclear plant designs, operating practices, nuclear fuel
supply arrangements, sponsoring nuclear research development, and ownership control of enrichment
reprocessing facilities. Finally, an evaluation of what economic influences concerning nuclear
development views versus fossil fuel power generation is followed by a summary of the research and
important findings in the conclusion.
Review and Analysis Although governmental infrastructural investment in nuclear power generation
facilities has been traditionally considered vital, there are other types of governmental investments in
the industry, including policy statements. Governmental policymakers in the

Violence
While growing up, a child may hear their parents say violence is never the answer many times in their
lives, but sometimes the child will act out without thinking of the consequences. In The Tell Tale
Heart , Edgar Allen Poe tells a story about an unnamed narrator, who is driven to kill an old man
whose veiled eye strikes fear in the protagonist. The story is about one s view of reality as the narrator
of the story insists that he is sane while the reader knows that he is truly insane from an outside view,
away from fear the character felt. In The Tell Tale Heart Edgar Allen Poe uses the narrator s, violent
obsessive behavior to express how much his paranoia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

avoid suspicion, but alas went on with his plan where he] for seven long nights, every night at
midnight would ...slowly ,very, very slowly ...undid the lantern ...so much that a single ray fell upon
the vulture eye (Poe). The paranoia of the speaker causes him to stalk the eye every night of the week,
but, the sleeping man won t open his offending eye. This behavior makes him increase his obsession
of wanting to get rid of the eye and finally causing him to conclude his waiting game for the eye to
open. Upon the eight night ... [he] could scarcely contain [his] feelings of triumph he had decided that
was the night the eye would stop bothering him forever. After man hours if getting into the room, he
had managed to ...drag him to the floor and pulled the heavy bed over him... the heart beat on with a
muffled sound... it ceased (Poe). After successfully killing the man the narrator made ...wise
precautions ... [and he] dismembered the corpse... then took up three planks ...and deposited [it] all .
Everything has been going so well for the speaker until a group of policemen, that were called from a
neighbor had heard a shriek, came in asking a few questions, but he easily played it off by stating ...
[that the] shriek ... was [his own] in a dream [and the old man}... was absent in the country . The

Determinants Of A College Basketball Team
Determinants of a college basketball team s revenue

Nils Weddig, Siena College, USA
Abstract
This paper shows empirical evidence of how a men s college basketball program s revenue is affected
by several determinants. Results are being taken out of sample data from the past eight basketball
seasons. The most important determinants considering a college basketball team s revenue include
advertising, ticket pricing, performance during the previous season as well as the past three games,
performance of a local rival s program in the previous season, quality of opponents faced, time of the
event, and the Gross State Product. This article evaluates the listed determinants on the basis of a
regression analysis to provide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
College basketball is one of the most popular college sports to attend and to watch. The evaluated
college is compared to other Division 1 programs a smaller college. However, their basketball team is
still very competitive and has appeared in eleven national tournaments, six of which have been at the
NCAA tournament. Over the past decade the program has seen a lot of success but they have also
battled many hardships.
Even though the success of the team has changed throughout the years the one thing that has never
changed is the support from the students, alumni, faculty, and the community. At every home game the
arena is filled with students, alumni, faculty, as well as the local community that attend to watch great
basketball and support their favorite team. In this research article we are going to analyze how the
program s revenue is affected by different determinants. Collecting data of past ticket sales, pricing of
the tickets, as well as the attendance for each game will enable us to determine the amount of revenue
generated from this program. Some determinants that we are going to consider are the advertisement
expenses for each game, the opponent s team quality, the performance of the crosstown rival s
basketball program, whether the games are being held during the week or on weekends as well as the
time of the game, and finally a demographic factor, the Gross State

Analysis Of Katherine Mansfield s Miss Brill Essay
5.Analyse how the writer(s) use(s) language techniques for a particular purpose in a written text or
texts you have studied. Katherine Mansfield uses an extensive range of language techniques to portray
the lonely and slightly delusional spinster; Miss Brill. The story of Miss Brill is an extremely good
example of how a writer can use different language techniques to reveal a variety of aspects of the
character.
The author uses characterisation through the language techniques to reveal a variety of truths to the
reader about Miss Brill s personality. Mansfield uses the language techniques to express the theme of
connectedness throughout the story. Mansfield also uses symbolism, setting and point of views by the
different characters in her story to create a clear scene and atmosphere for the readers. Symbolism is
very important throughout the short story as it illustrates a vivid understanding of who Miss Brill is,
which is easily expressed through the relationship between Miss Brill and her fox fur. BODY
PARAGRAPH #1
Miss Brill s fur is an extension of herself. The fox fur throughout the novel thoroughly symbolises
Miss Brill and her life in a variety of ways. Miss Brill whom has lost all sense of connectedness
throughout the story is able to strongly connect to the fox fur on a very ominous level. Mansfield
makes it clear that Miss Brill lives her life through the fox fur; by links of characteristics between the
fur and Miss Brill, which are fairly similar.

These measures are global, i.e. they measure the results of whole organization rather than parts of the
organization. While traditional methods of OM discuss cross functional aspects, TOC approach
emphasizes on measuring and improving system wide results and identifying factors that restrict the
performance of whole system. It recognizes the effect of variability dependency on the performance of

Erika Riemann’s Oral Testimony on Life in East Germany...
Erika Riemann s oral testimony on life in East Germany during the Cold War
Erika Riemann was a teenager living in East Germany at the end of World War II. Her oral testimony
describes her experiences as a political prisoner during the cold war. She was arrested in 1945 for
drawing a bow on a portrait of Stalin that hung in her school classroom. At the time of her arrest she
was only 14 years old.
After World War II Germany was left devastated and in ruins. There had been massive destruction of
the country s infrastructure (Bessel 2011), it lacked political structure and economic activity had
plummeted. There was a scarcity of food, fuel and housing and Germany was in no condition to clothe
or feed its population (O Dochartaigh 2003). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The arrests were indiscriminate, to the point where an internal review by the soviet authorities showed
that 35,000 people had been wrongfully arrested (Kitchen 2012). Most of these people were released
in 1948; however, there were thousands who were handed over to German authorities in 1949 to
complete their sentences. Approximately 150,000 Germans were interned between 1945 and 1950, and
the death rates in these camps have been estimated to be around 35 40 percent (Bruce 2003, p.6).
Riemann served 8 years and 16 days of her 10 year sentence as a political prisoner. Following her
arrest, she spent time in a castle dungeon at Ludwiglust for questioning. She was forced to confess to
crimes she did not commit, including being part of the Nazi resistance movement. She was then taken
to Bautzen a prison near Dresden, living conditions were awful, and inmates were locked in cages, the
quarters were full of bugs and there were no toilets. She then moved to another prison fortress, Torgau
where many women were raped. From there she was moved to the former Nazi concentration camp at
Sachenhaun just outside of Berlin, which was run by the German police. She says that at first she had
been very happy to be committed to the Germans, as she and other inmates believed that their cases
would be reviewed, and they would be released, however, she says that what we had to endure under
the Germans was worse than everything we had

Domesticated Animals In The Elizabethan Era
Ever since humans began to domesticate animals, their lives have altered drastically. Daily life and
activities became easier with the use of the trained animals and the relationship between humans and
other animals grew into something more than just to beings coexisting with one another. Today,
domesticated animals became beloved family members of humans who adopted them and they live
peacefully. Some train their pets for sport and entertainment and others just keep their pets for
company. In the Elizabethan era, daily life was fairly similar. Animals such as horses and dogs proved
to be quite significant in the 16th century. They assisted humans, brought joy to humans lives, and
became entertainment to the once boring lives of humans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a hunt such as this, their prey was wild boar. The hunters and their dogs would chase the prey to
exhaustion and at that point, go in for the kill. This target was rather dangerous, but nonetheless, the
sport was enjoyed. The other form of hunting, Bow and Stable hunting, was considered less strenuous
and both men and women participated in the activity. The main weapons used was a bow and arrow or
a spear. Riding on horseback, the huntsmen and huntswomen accompanied by several dogs, would
drive their prey into and enclosed area. Then, the hunters killed the prey in close range.
The dogs and horses participating in these activities prove to be very critical in the procedure of
chasing, capturing, and killing the prey. They are even acknowledged by the people of this time for
their vigorous work. To show their appreciation, the dogs are rewarded with a few chunks of meat.
In each hunt, there are a variety of different dog breeds that are used in the hunt. Before the hunt is
planned, a huntsman and his lymer, go out in the morning to search for tracks of the prey or fewments
(droppings), to predict where the prey may be scavenging and living. Common breeds of lymers
include Bloodhounds and St Hubert s. Other types of dogs used are sight hounds or otherwise known
as gazehounds. As the name suggest, these dogs are prized and adored for their acute vision and
immense speed. Breeds such as Greyhounds and

Income Base Apportionment Formula
Mission: To assess current expense apportionment calculations in comparison to income base
apportionment, GCFA (as charged by the 2012 General Conference) presents the attached information
for review. Current Apportionment Formula: Currently, conference s net expenditures calculate
apportionment amounts. In theory, all 501(c)3 entities like The United Methodist Church should give
an estimate of local church expenses equal to their income. To define the apportionable amount, Net
Expenses (E) expresses the total church expenses less deductions: benevolent giving, capital
expenditures, payments to debt, and a portion of apportionments paid to the conference. Next, the
Base Rate percentage (p), approved by General Conference, is summed with the i factor (i) and finally
multiplied by Net Expenses (E) to define conference apportionments. The Formula is expressed
below: A = E * (p + i) Method: Charged by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conferences with higher than average income, either grow or give at a higher than average rate.
Changing to an income base expense model will cut their ability to give. Thus, redistribution would
come at the cost of previous growth and giving. Summary: GCFA s review of an income base model
illustrates the feasibility of a simplistic and transparent apportionment formula. While the idea behind
an income base model remains relevant, the practicality and feasibility of its implementation is
reduced by its abilities to work best through complexity. Thus, if the income base model works best
through complexity and if the main idea behind the change was for a simplistic model, then why
change the model? Variance of Models: This report focuses on the variances between an income base

Paying Students For Good Grades
In schools students have low grades and other issues. One of those issues is that they don t have
enough motivation to learn and do their work. Their attendance is poor, they miss a great portion and
that doesn t allow them to learn what needs to be learned. Some schools have a low ranking and a low
percentage of student success. In order to fix the issue, some schools have created a program called
money for grades. The program is about the school paying their students for earning excellent grades.
However, paying students for excellent grades can result in negative consequences. Implementing the
program does not allow the students to really learn, it stresses them, and it is a trigger to an argument/
conflict. Paying students for exceptional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

problems in their classrooms, including pressure to inflate grades and conflicts with students and
parents (Flannery). The cash for grades program can cause problems between students and teachers, as
stated in the article by Mary Ellen Flannery, the students can end up getting angry because the teacher
didn t give them a favorable grade. It can also cause the problem of students expecting a compensation
every time they do something. In her article Why you shouldn t pay children for Grades McCready
stated Though you may see initial improvement, numerous studies have shown that over time rewards
dampen excitement over a task exactly the opposite of what we re going for. The fact that rewards are
going to end up dampening excitement over a task is going to cause problems because if it gets
dampened students aren t going to want to work hard in order to achieve the grade required to get
paid. This is why the program is unsuitable, it is a trigger to an argument/

Domestic Surveillance During The United States
Domestic Surveillance in the Unites States has been going on for decades without the public s
knowledge. Domestic Surveillance didn t seem important in the eye of the American government.
After the September attacks (9/11) congress started to treat Domestic Surveillance as a number one
priority. After September 11th Congress passed a law to use military force for those responsible for the
attacks in New York, NY. The go ahead with using military force did not give the President to use
surveillance without a warrant. Congress started to pass legislation against counterterrorism efforts.
The most controversial measures, including the 2001 USA Patriot Act that gave the US federal
government the ability to collect and analyze private information that has identified itself with the
United States of America.
With new found ways of viewing American citizens personal information the federal government had
to learn how not to get caught. American citizens have right to their privacy and with all the new
Domestic Surveillance programs many were warrantless. In 2002 Bush signed a presidential order
allowing the National Security Agency to monitor without a warrant. This presidential order applied to
international telephone calls and e mail messages of thousands of citizens and legal residents inside
the United States. This program never had the requirements to obtain or produce a warrant from the

Women s Rights In China And Saudi Arabia
There are countless injustices experienced by people throughout the world today, but one in particular
that stands out is women s rights. In a few places such as China and India, parents are willing to kill
their daughters at birth since it is more honorable for a family to have a son. This is more commonly
known as infanticide, which is an extremely unjust way to treat women. Another example of females
not having equal rights to men arises in the South African country, Lesotho. Women encounter a
problem when attempting to acquire large sums of land; whereas, men can simply buy whatever their
money can purchase. My final third world example emerges in the middle eastern country, Saudi
Arabia. One of the lesser injustices faced by women is their

America s culture was greatly impacted. The movie and tv industry were spreading propaganda
against communism. Education was being infiltrated by propaganda because it was included in

techniques to show that it was better than soviet realism . They also used it for propaganda. The
fashion industry was also greatly impacted. Trends constantly changed. Padded shoulders and fuller
clothes alike became the new look for women. Women s underwear also changed. It started to be able
to shape their bodies well and it later evolved into looser and more comfortable pieces. Lastly, the
music industry was also impacted because the U.S. used it, specifically jazz music, to spread

Compare And Contrast Virginia And Plymouth Plantation
History of virginia and plymouth plantation Both these stories explain about how two men were on the
Mayflower coming to america. Along the way both these men were encountered with different kind of
troubles. History of Virginia was written as a third person whereas to Plymouth Plantation was only
written as one. The most important characters in these stories were Captain John Smith and William
Brad Ford. They each had their differences and similarities. Captain John Smith was on his way to the
new world in 1607, where he then had an encounter with some native americans where he explains
how they held him captive for up to 6 or 7 weeks. Since Capt. John Smith writes in third person he
refers to himself a lot, when talking about the native americans he refers to them as barbarians and
savages. To spare his life Capt. John Smith tells them about how the earth works how to plant, how to
crop, and how to grow food, but since they have gotten off course and lost their route they missed
planting season and didn t have much food for the harsh winter that was coming. After all this they

himself since his book was written as a third person unlike William bradford only wrote it as a first

religious freedom. And none of this was a piece of cake many of them died along the way for sea

Comparison Of Dystopias And The New Harmony Society
Utopias and dystopias are two complete opposite societies. A utopia is defined as any real or
imaginary society, place, or state that are considered to be perfect or ideal ( Utopia ). Everyone has a
different idea of what a perfect world would be. This makes creating a utopia for everyone very
difficult. One person s utopia may be a dystopia for another. Dystopias are defined as a society
characterized by human misery, as squalor, oppression, disease, and overcrowding ( Dystopia ). Both
Oceania and the New Harmony Society started out with the intention of being a utopia; over time,
these two societies changed into dystopias for more than one reason.

Everyone wants to have power and money so eventually the society turns corrupt and certain people
feel inferior to others. The government slowly but surely changes and things go from great to horrible.
Some examples of utopias are The Garden of Eden, Heaven, and for a short period of time, the New
Harmony colony. Examples of dystopias are Present in the book The Hunger Games , the book 1984,
and The New Harmony society.
Both Oceania and New Harmony considered themselves to be a utopia. George Rapp founded a
society that he believed would have a community free of individualism, exploitation, social tension,
and political corruption. When joining the New Harmony society, Members signed over all their
property to the community; they pledged to live in celibacy; and they prayed for the Second Coming
as depicted in Father Rapp s weekly sermons. (Communitarianism). The members must agree to these
guidelines and give their consent in order to be accepted into the society. Once they agree to these
opening guidelines, they must immediately start practicing them. One belief that they practice is that
Reform would be achieved through communal love not violence or coercion meaning, they want to

The Epidemic Of The Polio Virus
With a substantial amount of preventive healthcare advancements behind them, the American medical
community turned its attention to the deadly polio virus plaguing America. From 1937 to 1952, known
cases of Americans contracting polio skyrocketed from ten thousand to a staggering figure of roughly
fifty seven thousand cases. Of those cases within that time period, approximately one thousand five
hundred deaths as a result of polio were recorded. In the year 1953, The National Foundation for
Infantile Paralysis provided the scientist Dr. Jonas Salk with the tools necessary to research, and
develop a working vaccine to combat the devastating polio disease. After much trial and error, Dr.
Salk was finally able to create what he felt was a successful polio vaccination, and proceeded to
conduct a field test. After resounding success, manufacturing instructions for the Salk vaccine were
sent to a series of scientific laboratories for immediate production and administration to American
children. The disaster that occurred next will forever be known through American medical history as
the Cutter Incident (named so after one of the labs that administered the polio vaccine). This medical
crisis sent shockwaves throughout America and the medical community, and numerous lawsuits were
filed against Cutter Laboratories, resulting in fewer and fewer labs willing to accept contract work in
developing vaccines.
Throughout the years, blame has been thrown at every party involved in the

The Beautiful University City of Cambridge
The beautiful city of Cambridge has an enviable reputation as one of the world s greatest universities
as well as being an agreeable place to live and work. The inhabitants enjoy low unemployment, a
cluster of good schools and plenty of green spacious parkland. The river Cam provides a focal point in
the summer with its flotilla of punts gliding around gentle bends overhung with lush willows.
Two vibrant communities
Cambridge is a city of two vibrant communities, that despite a chequered past of friction and
confrontation now seem to co exist with ease. Both the students and locals go about their business,
almost independent of each other. Many scholars are completely unaware of the delights the city has
to offer away from the seclusion of their learned places and locals would be hard pressed to tell you
where any university building was apart from King s College Chapel and maybe the University
Library, with its huge soaring tower. Most central colleges face inward to courtyards hidden behind
castle like buildings, giving no clue to the enclosed delights (that can include a lake with huge fish).
Secret and enchanting places only accessed by gatehouses guarded by porters keepers of the portcullis.
Within the city boundaries are a dense collection of architectural styles ranging from medieval,
Jacobean, classical and Victorian. This city is an architectural historians paradise where examples of
one style evolving into another are abundant.

First Emperor Of China Essay
Although he did wonderful things while he was alive, the first emperor of China was not a wonderful
person. This is because of his greed, the large amount of people he executed, and his failed attempts to
live forever. But who was the first emperor of China? What kind of things did he accomplish? And
why do so many insist that he was a bad person?
The answer lies in the Period of Warring States. Before China was unified, it was a land composed of
seven independent states, they were kind of like countries. Those states were always at war for
superiority. In Chinese culture, this is known as the Period of Warring States (First Emperor of China).
In the midst of the Period of Warring States, a young merchant, Lu Buwei, was in need of a favor, so
he traveled to the state of Qin, in the North, in seek for the prince. Once he found the Prince, named
Zizhu Zheng, the merchant offered one of his mistresses in return for the favor. That mistress later
became pregnant and gave birth to the future emperor of China in 259 B.C. Rumor has it that the
father wasn t actually the prince, instead it was the merchant that lead his mother there, but either way,
the new baby was now part of the royal family (Law of Shi Huangdi).

believer in this philosophy was Han Fei Tzu. He was another Legalist and the tutor of Shi Huang Di.

Protagonists within art and literature serve as mediums on which audiences can project themselves
onto. This process turns protagonists into heroes , and allows audiences to feel the courageousness,

despite being the protagonist of the work Hamlet, does not exude any of these aforementioned traits.
Hamlet is cowardly, indecisive, and self interested, an overall morally suspect. Hamlet himself
acknowledges his possession of these flaws. Within the first act of the play, Hamlet learns of his father
s murder at the hands of Hamlet s uncle Claudius. The murder of Hamlet s father and the marriage of
his mother, Gertrude, to Claudius are devastating turn of events; However, Hamlet s reaction to these

The Ethics Of The Sarbanes Oxley Act
Question 1 Throughout history and in our own time, legitimate accounting methods have been utilized
to fraudulently engage in manipulating activities that results in illicit gains to the perpetrators and
losses to individuals and financial institutions. The most common accounting fraud is the
misrepresentation of financial statements which is frequently known as cooking the books and
includes manipulation, falsification, or alteration of accounting records, intentional omission from the
financial statements and intentional misapplication of accounting principles relating to amounts,
classification, manner of presentation, or disclosure. In addition, associated with the misapplication of
accounting methods, the financial industry has been plagued with one disaster after another involving
numerous scandals from top leading American companies. Consequently, the Sarbanes Oxley Act was
passed in 2002 compromising eleven sections that are generated to insure the responsibilities of the
company s managers and executives. This act identifies criminal penalties for particular unethical
practices and currently has new policies that a corporation must follow in their financial reporting. The

Individualism in the American society means first and foremost self determination and self
actualization.
Another element of the American culture is the egalitarianism. The high regard of equality can be seen
in the pursuit of equal opportunities, in the refusal of authority and paternalism, the requirement of
participation as well as in the preference of informal behavior. (Stahl/Langeloh/Kühlmann, 1999: 57)
The law for the protection of minorities, against discrimination and the debate of political correctness
are also highly developed in The United States. Those values of equal opportunities and freedom are
anchored in the Declaration of independence (4 July 1776): We hold these truths to be self evident,
that all men are created equal, and that they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable
rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
The action orientation and the focus on results is another key element of the American culture.
(Stahl/Langeloh/Kühlmann, 1999: 85) Americans are pragmatic, looking for a solution that works,
while not looking for every solution possible and thinking about their pros and cons but rather by
simplifying complex problems and looking for instant solutions. This way of problem solving is linear
and acquires less time. (Stahl/Langeloh/Kühlmann, 1999: 90) According to the motto:

In 1712, Thomas Newcomen took this idea and built on it, creating the atmospheric engine . It was the first engine that used a piston, and was made for pumping in mines. But the first moving steam engine came into play when James Watt patented a continuous rotary motion steam engine. It could be fueled by water, coal, or wood. It had the capability to power manufacturing machines. This allowed factories to locate in areas where no constant water source was available. Later, they could be applied to locomotives and traction engines. Why was the Steam Engine Invented? The steam engine s initial use was for pumping mines back in the 1700 s. As technology evolved and rotaries were applied, the engine was capable of much more. They could power factory machines such as power looms and spinning mules. • 3. Rhetorical Essay Conclusion One of the main things Thoreau tries to highlight throughout the Conclusion is the importance of being one s self. He states, If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away. I believe that Thoreau is making a statement and sharing his belief that it is not one s job to follow in the footsteps of others. Thoreau wants each person to find what they are passionate about, and carve their own path, no matter how different or unique that passion may be in the eyes of society. As I continue to live my life, I find that this specific excerpt connects with a majority of us. Whether we admit it or not, I believe that each person ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I use to constantly update my personality on what was popular at the time, never caring if my actions truly were coming from me. I used them as a mask, throwing on whichever one I believed people would accept at the time. I was scared of what others may think if they uncovered and found out about the real me. Eventually I took a leap of faith and shed my final mask, which benefited me in numerous ways. As I began to express my true self and speak of the various interests I enjoyed most, I began to accumulate a new group of friends who accepted, and truly cared about the real me. I found that I could carry out much deeper and more meaningful conversations within my new friend group, without having to worry about the judgement that would typically come. I also found that when I spoke on my love for hunting, fishing, automobiles or any of my other hobbies and passions, I found that numerous people began to open up on their similar interests as well. Because of this experience, I began to realize that all it takes is one person to break down a social barrier, and that deep down everyone has interests and passions that they are holding back, and may just be waiting on someone else to open up ... In other words computer architecture is the design of the network base on the needs of the user, the system if it is there or needs to be built, and the technology that needs to go into the project. A client/server architecture is an end to end systems that contains server hosts (contains the resources and services needed by the client) and clients (users or workstations in the network). Most client/server networks have more than one client to a server so that the system shares computing power. There are a few different kinds of servers to include file sharing, printer services, email services, database services, web services, and a server can used for it power. Clients can access all of these different servers at one time and the servers can serve many clients. (Techopedia, 2014) For large businesses with office throughout the country web based computing or cloud computing shows the greatest benefit. In web based computing it is not the local computer doing all the work but rather computers off site that do the work. The user s computer runs off of a cloud computing system s interface software which uses the offsite network computers to do the work. What OS file system should we use? I would recommend a Windows OS and file system. This is because Windows is straight forward. There may be too many distributions of Linux, it s possible that this is hurting Linux in the marketplace. It could be that the lack of a Linux distro from a major computer company is also hurting it in the marketplace. (Horowitz, 2007) The type of architecture I would use is a web based computing. Introduction In an era when many industry analysts project peak oil will be reached by mid century or sooner, identifying opportunities to promote alternative energy sources assumes new importance and relevance. The story of Miss Brill is an extremely good example of how a writer can use different language techniques to reveal a variety of aspects of the character. The author uses characterisation through the language techniques to reveal a variety of truths to the reader about Miss Brill s personality. Mansfield uses the language techniques to express the theme of connectedness throughout the story. Mansfield also uses symbolism, setting and point of views by the different characters in her story to create a clear scene and atmosphere for the readers. Symbolism is very important throughout the short story as it illustrates a vivid understanding of who Miss Brill is, which is easily expressed through the relationship between Miss Brill and her fox fur. BODY PARAGRAPH #1 Miss Brill s fur is an extension of herself. The fox fur throughout the novel thoroughly symbolises Miss Brill and her life in a variety of ways. Miss Brill whom has lost all sense of connectedness throughout the story is able to strongly connect to the fox fur on a very ominous level. Mansfield makes it clear that Miss Brill lives her life through the fox fur; by links of characteristics between the fur and Miss Brill, which are fairly similar. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Erika Riemann s oral testimony on life in East Germany during the Cold War Erika Riemann was a teenager living in East Germany at the end of World War II.
