The Impact Of Southernization And Westernization
Southernization and Westernization took hold of many of the Empires in Europe and Asia at that of
1400 1750 when the Early Modern World began to rise. Colonization, exploration, and the building up
of empires were the main concerns during this period. This had quite the effect on the people and
kingdoms that were being over taken. Exploration and colonization impacted many empires around
the globe because, trade began to increase which spread ideas and goods, slavery affected empires by
using them as laborers to build their colonies, and there is a competition between the empires of who
can obtain colonies and rise to a higher power. This fight for power and wealth was a main theme
during the Early Modern World, the thought process of thinking ... Show more content on

When the Spanish and Portugal had the Treaty of Tordesillas it separated them splitting up the land of
which each empire could conquer. The Spanish had a very large part of the Americas while the
Portuguese only had the area of Brazil. The Spanish began a conquest of Mexico they fought with the
Tlateloclan warriors and the Spaniards entirely defeated them so they could fully take over their land
(Tlatelolcan Elder, 564). While Spain took control over the western part of the Americas Portugal was
fighting for the land they were given in the east, Brazil. When Pedro Alvares Cabral first went to the
land of Brazil he was very unimpressed with the people and the land there he went back to the King of
Portugal, Manoel, and reported this to him, he described how the people looked and acted to Manoel.
(Encounter in Brazil, 571). Through these primary sources you can see the Portuguese and Spanish are
taking control of what is theirs. This led to conflicts between the stronger and weaker empires as they
tried to gain more land to become wealthy. Many empires were also trying to gain kingdoms in Africa
to keep the slave trade alive so slaves could keep producing good in the Americas. There were other
conflicts between empires and it impacted the empires of the globe of how powerful and they would

Liebeck Vs Caveat Emptor Essay
Liebeck vs. Caveat Emptor A.Villasmil University of the People PHIL1404 AY2018 T4 Professor:
Cecil Blount Liebeck vs. Caveat Emptor In 1992 there was a case between a patron, Stella Liebeck,
and McDonald s Corporation (Brusseau, 2012). The case involved a hot cup of coffee that Stella
opened, by gripping the cup in between her legs, and resulted in the hot coffee spilling and severely
burning her. Fast forward to the end of the case, and we see McDonald s Corporation held liable for
the damages and forced to pay Stella Liebeck. During that time, the media had many opinions on who
was right or wrong in the case. Many echoed an opinion that the hot coffee should have been an
obvious indicator that the contents could cause harm. After all, when one is young they learn the
difference between hot and cold and the dangers that come with each. It seems the notion of caveat
emptor would fit the situation well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In terms of this doctrine, Stella Liebeck would be held fully responsible for spilling hot coffee on
herself, which resulted in severe burns. It would mean that she was aware she was purchasing hot
coffee and by that purchase would be held to logical use of the coffee because of the hot contents. An
argument of age could be brought into the picture, given that she was an older adult, and she may not
have understood or remembered what could have happened if hot coffee spilled on her. However, that
would be discriminatory against her and would be offensive to imply she was not able to make a
logical decision due to

Issues In The Transgender Community
Trans Pandemic The transgender community has been facing much more ridicule than society realizes
in our generation, we have been trying to change and accept more and more things. Yet I never
realized how much and how little improvement has happened in the past years. While watching The
Daily Show, one of my favorite television shows, I heard about the problems I never really have
thought about before. Actually realizing all the issues within the transgender community really
surprised me. One major problem is the Bathroom Bill, a bill some people are trying to get passed.
One of these many types of bills would restrict access to transgender people using the bathroom they
identify with; one example is a house bill that was attempted to be ... Show more content on

If these people are fighting so hard because God doesn t approve of their lifestyle (of being their true
selves,) society s logic is incredibly flawed. They are not only judging the transgender community but
hurting other people, religion is about equality and acceptance no matter what. It is not a sin to desire
feeling comfortable in your own body. You wear sweatpants, he wears a dress. Move on. I loved the
way the daily show tried to shine some light on the transgender community all while pointing out how
ridiculously people are reacting to transgender people living the way they were meant to. Making light
of these situations is really helpful in times like this. Even within harsh circumstances, every person of
every gender (and sex) deserve a laugh. The bathroom bill is a bill that shines light on the issues
people face every day, issues that should not be issues in the first

Designing primers and optimisation of a Real Time PCR assay
Introduction
This essay based on the principle of real time PCR which uses CYBR green dye that combines to any
double stand DNA. This process included two maim steps. The first step was designing of HSV 1
primer and /or HSV 2 primer (we have chosen only HSV 1). BioEdit software has been used to edit
the nuclide sequences where necessary. After that the primer has been ordered. The second step was in
the laboratory which included applying the HSV 1 primers to real time PCR protocol. The final results
of this protocols aim to demonstrate the quality of HSV 1 primer that we have designed by
interpretation three criteria. These are specificity, efficiency and ... Show more content on

Whereas the reaction products are not specific the SYBR green dye added to the reaction mixture to
quantitatively indicate the amount of dsDNA in the reaction mixture by providing amplification plot
and melt curve as well as the melt temperature plot that used in may offers useful information about
the sensitivity of the DNA template in the sample (Giglio, Monis and Saint, 2003).
From PowerUp SYBR Green Fast PCR master mix kit two reaction mixtures have been prepared.
Reference primers (PowerUp SYBR Green Fast PCR master mix, forward primer, reverse primer and
ultrapure water).
Own primer (PowerUp SYBR Green Fast PCR master mix, the forward primer we have ordered,
reverse primer we have ordered and ultrapure water).
PowerUp SYBR Green Fast PCR master mix designed to avoid the reamplification of PCR products
by clearing any uracil combined to into single or double stranded components by uracil DNA

When the mixtures ready and added to Applied Biosystems wells we have run them to PCR machine
as these conditions activation at 50 °C for 2 minutes and at 95°C for 2 minutes and Amplification at
95 °C for 1 seconds; 60 °C for 30 seconds × 40 (Applied Biosystem, 2010).

Challenges Facing Policing
If crime is falling, why has policing continued to be a challenging policy area for governments in
recent decades?
In our everyday lives most of us look to the state for protection and security. (Moran, 2015) Citizens
expect Britain to preserve public order, protect their rights, and maintain justice for all. While it may
sound simple on the surface these tasks are more complicated than they seem. While the crime rate has
statistically decreased, there are other factors involved that happen behind the curtain. Each of these
factors plays a role in the policies regarding policing. Overall, the challenges that face policing include
a rise in overall terrorism, new threats from cyber terrorists, and the effects due to public perception.
After ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case crime. The ability to measure crime is far more complicated than the number of arrests in a
year or the number of DUI cases. Factors involved are not always accurate. Many instances of crime
will go unreported, making it impossible to hold 100% accurate crime rates. Croft and Moore noted
that, western security thinking has an interesting history of being shocked into change by singular
events: the massacre of Srebrenica, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the launch of Sputnik, the annihilation
of Hiroshima all had similar effects on our thinking. These are all fantastic examples of how in a short
span of time the public can become uncertain about their safety. Since America has crown the current
era a the Age of Terror is means there must be a real issue at hand. Meaning that citizens can now
begin to worry. Which lead to a cycle that goes on and on. The cycle is as follows, ... they [terrorists]
want to threaten us ; we are genuinely worried about their determination to kill; they notice our fears,
and speak and act accordingly. This notion of fear drives the policy involved around policing to be
ever changing (Croft and Moore, 2010). These social changes that have occurred reinforced the social
sensitivity felt around the world making it more and more demanding of police and security (Moran,

A Medical Folk From Promedica Fostoria Community Hospital
What is Ethic Really Like in Wider Professional Circles? The individual interviewed was a medical
folk from Promedica Fostoria Community Hospital. They work in the surgery department for sterile

the professional group they represent, their code of conduct, and their mission as a facility. They
answered the questions to the best of their ability and gave much insight about the facility itself and
the staff within the hospital. Fostoria Hospitals mission statement is short but meaningful. It is on all
of the staff member name tags and all around the hospital for people to see. The statement says, Our
mission is to improve your health and well being . Yes, this may seem like an obvious statement, they
are health care providers so their mission should be to improve health and well being of others, but
that is all the mission statement needs to say. The health care providers act on everything else that is
not said in the statement. The hospital is also a diverse group of staff workers and patients. The
interviewee said that every year they have an annual diversity lunch in, where they have different
types of food from other cultures to represent the diversity at the hospital. The gender ratio for the
hospital consists of mainly women. The females usually consist of the nurses, receptionist, dietetics,
kitchen and offices. The men usually consist of the doctors, some office

Great White Sharks Research Paper
How do great white sharks survive in the ocean? Peter Benchley the author of Jaws said, Without
sharks , you take away the apex predator of the ocean, and you destroy the entire food chain . My
paper s main idea is how Great White Sharks survive in the ocean. Like how they hunt and how their
features help it hunt,hide,and survive.
The features of a Great White Sharks are really interesting like their skin patterns. Their skin patterns
help them camouflage in the water. The top of their body is blue to blend in the water. The bottom of
the body is grey to blend in with the black color on the bottom of the ocean. The teeth of Great White
Sharks are interesting. They have multiple rows of teeth. Their teeth are triangled shaped and have

The Power Struggles in Jury of Her Peers and Mama Come Home
The issue of dominance and subordinance is addressed in the short stories A Jury of her Peers by
Susan Glaspell and Mama Come Home by James Tiptree, Jr. In the stories the subordinates are
harmed by the dominants, but the subordinates overcome the suppression to triumph in the end. The
groups with the power control the laws and the positions of the weaker group.
To begin with, A Jury of her Peers is about the way women in 1917 were treated by men. The main
women characters are Minnie Wright, Mrs. Peters, and Mrs. Hale. The women in the story are
confined to their homes; rarely getting to go to town or visit with their friends. The women did not

The men also think all the housework the women do and the things they worry about are trifles. The
women receive no credit for their work. Dirty towels! Not much of a housekeeper, would you say,
ladies? (Glaspell 264) The women become depressed and lonely.
The subordinates are harmed both physically and emotionally in the story Mama Come Home. The
giant women overpower the smaller men. They beat the men and rape them. The giant women use the
men as sex slaves. They see the men as inferior and only good for sex. The men are physically harmed
because they are bruised and beaten by the Capellans. The standing one had my neck in a vise at arm s
length, and when I worked the standard finger bend she laughed like a deep bell and casually twisted
up my arm until things broke. (Tiptree 69) They are emotionally damaged because they are taken
advantage of. Anyone that is raped becomes torn up inside.
In the story Jury of her Peers, the women are thought of as inferior. The men treat the women like they
are not able to do the same things as the men. But would the women know a clue if they did come
upon it? (Glaspell 266) The women have feminine intuition. They know the pain from isolation that
Minnie was going through and know what clues to look for. Again, for one brief moment, the two
women s eyes found one another. (Glaspell 280) The men underestimate that the women can think on
this level.

Islam In America Analysis
According to the book Islam in America by Johnathan Curiel, one can find evidence that the story of
Muslims in America all the way back to beginnings of slave trade to the United States in the 1700 s.
About 20% of African slaves that were brought to America were Muslims. During this early times in
the country, the number of Muslims is estimated to be around 25,000 but were forced by their owners
to convert to Christianity. (Curiel, 2015) Though many Muslim slaves, showed that they had
converted, many still held on to their faith in Islam. As the number of Slaves increased from 250,000
to 500,000, it is estimated that the number of Muslims increased. (Curiel, 2015) Through the time of
denial of Islam, the Muslims held on and followed their faith and continued to pass down their faith to
family. This continued for many years, until the 1890 s when white American Muslims began to
change the role of Islam in the United States. This turning point at such a crucial time for the religion,
helped Islam spread throughout the country. Alexander Webb proclaimed himself as missionary, and
spent his time campaigning throughout the country, speaking about the religion, the building of
mosques and more during a time that people believed Islam to be an adversary. (Curiel, 2015)

much left to interpretation for any of the followers of Islam. Currently, New York has the highest
amount of Muslims in the United States at 24% of the population, followed by Illinois at 10%,

Comparison Between Hard Times and Communist Manifesto
Throughout history, a divide has always existed between the rich and poor in society. However, during
the Industrial Revolution in Victorian England, this rift reached its peak. The working class labored
for long hours and received miniscule wages, whereas the bourgeoisie grew abundantly wealthy
through the labor of the working class. Published in 1848 and 1854 respectively, Karl Marx s The
Communist Manifesto and Charles Dickens Hard Times both comment on these troubles. While Hard
Times is a novel which tells a story and The Communist Manifesto is a short publication which tries to
bring about social change, both writings offer a sharp critique of the class antagonism brought about
by capitalism at the height of the Industrial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, like many members of the bourgeoisie, Bounderby tries to better himself at the expense
of the proletarians. While Bounderby was a member of the lower class in his youth, he has completely
turned his back on them. He treats the proletarians with contempt, and he believes that all the
proletarians desire to be fed on turtle soup and venison, with a gold spoon. Dickens is creating an
irony here. Bounderby believes that all the proletarians want to get rich without working, yet the
proletarians are actually doing all the excruciating work in the society. However, the wealth is not
going to the proletarians but to Bounderby himself. In contrast, the protagonist of the novel is Stephen
Blackpool, who represents the average proletarian. He is not very educated, he works long hours at a
difficult factory job, and he gets paid very little for this job. Blackpool is a tragic character who is
constantly being taken advantage of by members of higher classes. Bounderby takes advantage of
Blackpool through wage labor, and Tom Gradgrind takes advantage of him by framing him for the
bank robbery. This all leads to a life full of sufferings, including exile from Coketown and an untimely
death. Blackpool would be a perfect model for Marx in order to showcase the sufferings of the
proletarians in Victorian England. Bounderby had complete control over Blackpool. Bounderby could

Truth In Cormac Mccarthy s The Road
Denying what you feel will not make it go away. It ensures that it never gets resolved, (Denial).
Taking action on difficult situations allows individuals to combat reality and avoid unfavorable
circumstances. However, many people think that avoiding the truth means avoiding the situation,
equivalating that the circumstances are not real. This leads to other, more costly problems. Cormac
McCarthy s The Road is set in a post apocalyptic world where a father and son are journeying in
hopes to escape the destruction around them. Similar to McCarthy s book, Toni Morrison centers on a
young African American girl, Pecola, in The Bluest Eye, who hopes to escape the ill perceptions of

American woman, who worries that her husband s restlessness in their marriage is due to a possible

distressing thought of faiths broken and trusts betrayed which every mental vision of Clare, of Brian,

The specificity of albumin binding experiment was to determine the binding interactions that occur
between serum albumin and three synthetic dyes with the use of electrophoretic procedure. Whole

According to Adrian Palmer (2009), the nature and measurements of these five forces could be
concluding as the following:
The bargaining power of customer is likely to be high if there are few buyers chasing too many goods,
if the buyer purchases in bulk quantities, if the product is not differentiated, if buyer incur low
switching cost and if buyers are price sensitive etc.
The bargaining power of suppliers is likely to be high when: suppliers are concentrated and well
organized; the number of suppliers is small or their services are in short supply; you bearing a high
switching cost and you are not an important customer to supplier etc.
The intensity of existing competitive rivalry is likely to be high if there are number of small or equal
competitors, if customers have low switching costs and if industry is growing etc.
The threat of new entrants is likely to be high if capital requirements to start the business are less, if
few economies of scale are in place, if customers can easily switch, if your technology is not hard to
acquire and if your product is not differentiated etc.
The Threat of substitute products is likely to be high when: there are many substitute products
available; the quality of competitors product is better etc.
Argued by Dobbs (2012), lacking of quantitative measurement could make this model lead to

Peter Singer s How To Find Fulfilling Career
Everyone would like to have a meaningful work. In the past, people did not attach great importance to
find a fulfilling career, because they were busy earning money to support their families. In their mind,
they worked only because they had to. People did not pay much attention to the meaning of their
careers. In chapter 2 A Short History of Career Confusion is from How to Find Fulfilling Work by
Roman Krznaric, the author argues that finding the meaningful career is challenging because people
have too much choice now. Some people are stuck in jobs that they do not like. Others spend a long
time finding their favorite work through experiences. Here are four strategies that can help you find
fulfilling career. Although some people think that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nowadays, some people do not like their work even complain bitterly, who find their work for earning
money. They feel frustrated that they spend lots of time dealing with dull emails or marketing products
they do not really like. In Rethinking Work , author Barry Schwartz writes, Today, in factories, offices
and other workplaces, the details may be different but the overall situation is the same: Work is
structured on the assumption that we do it only because we have to (1). Some people make a
difference. In How To Find Fulfilling Work, the moral philosopher Peter Singer writes, He argues that
our greatest hope for personal fulfillment is dedicating our lives and if possible our working
lives...especially an ethical one such as animal rights, poverty alleviation or environmental justice
(67). Make a difference is a good way to find a fulfilling career. Not only do people make a positive
contribution to people and society, but people also reflect their values. They can gradually sense day to
day the influence of their work upon an audience from their heart. For example, my dad is a bank
teller. Not only is he interested in finance, but he also likes to help others in need. That motivates him

Homer s Journey In A Human Comedy
In the historical novel A Human Comedy by William Saroyan, the main character, Homer went
through an emotional journey throughout the events of this novel. He deals with the hard facts of life
through his new job, and circumstances he s never experienced before, and he remembers there is
good in the world too, watching his younger brother enjoy early childhood as he did. I will explain
how Homer went through an emotional journey in this novel. It s mentioned he dealt with the hard
facts of life, he did this due to his job as a telegraph messenger, he delivers messages informing
families their sons, husbands or brothers have died. She cried a little, but only inside, because long ago
she had decided she didn t like crying because if you ever started to cry it seemed as if there was so

If you cried and mourned everything that goes wrong, you d always be doing so. Homer is exposed to
this concept for the first time and it s not the happiness he s used to. This is an example of one of the
first lesson Homer gets in this novel. Homer also realizes that people are not perfect in this novel, the
fight and they hate and there not always a happy ending. It s stupid to criticize people for being as they
are. They won t change their ways and telling them off for such is a waste of time and will lead you to
be just as hateful as them. Homer learns this as an important lesson in the novel and it helps him grow
to becoming a man in ways the other events didn t. And finally, while Homer is going through his
journey, Ulysses is having the same experiences he had when he was a small child, but now Homer
relieves them remember that even though he knows the hardest parts of life he can still enjoy it and
have childish bliss. Lionel whispered because he was under the impression that it was out of respect

Reasons For Legalization Of Prostitution
The legalization of prostitution has been a debatable topic over the years. There are differing
viewpoints on the reasons for legalizing prostitution as well as the causes of legalizing prostitution. In
the majority of the world today, there is a high level of demand for prostitutes as well as the services
they render. Because prostitutes are exposed to a bacterial cornucopia of sexually transmitted diseases,
many of them often contract a wide variety of these diseases. Many prostitutes are abused each year.
However, because these prostitutes usually fear law enforcement, most of this systemic abuse goes
unreported (Wurth et al. par. 2). Prostitution produces an abundance of money that is never taxed, yet
this untapped tax revenue could produce economic growth for states that legalize prostitution.
However, legalizing prostitution has the potential to create a safe, controlled environment that would
benefit not only the prostitute, but it would benefit society as well. Making prostitution illegal creates
an uncontrolled environment which does not require prostitutes to use protection. If prostitution
remains illegal, then it will continue to be less likely that prostitutes will use protection. According to
the journal of the international AIDS society, 11.8% pooled HIV prevalence among female workers in
50 countries (Wurth el al. par. 1). These numbers could decrease if the prostitution occurred in a
controlled environment. In Nevada, this strategy can be seen in

to become writers and many more other things. Background
In the late 1950 s the civil rights movement begins,The civil rights movement was about racial
discrimination and the segregation between African American people and white people. African

The United States And The Federal Convention
The United States had some fundamental problems in the late 1780 s. Many saw this and were looking
for a way to produce a national government that would be more than the virtually powerless
government the United States currently had. Pennsylvania was represented in the federal convention
by a larger delegation than any of the other states. Pennsylvania had 8 delegates at the Congressional
Convention. Those delegates were George Clymer, Thomas Fitzsimmons, Benjamin Franklin, Jared
Ingersoll, Thomas Mifflin, Gouverneur Morris, Robert Morris, and James Wilson. Benjamin Franklin
devised the Great Compromise (or the Connecticut Compromise) in which each state s representation
in the House of Representatives would be based on population ... Show more content on

His theory required the direct election of as many representatives as possible; to him, an appointed
President was as dangerous, or at least as onerous, as a monarch. He is considered responsible for our
peculiar Electoral College. When the Convention took up the question of the President, they had a few
decisions to make: single individual or committee? Appointed or elected? And what powers should the
President, in whatever form, be able to carry out? The debate started on June 1, when Wilson almost
immediately moved that the Executive be a single person. States rightists wanted a weak executive;
nationalists a strong one. Wilson noted that each of the states had single executives; the idea is well
known and seemed to work. When it came to a vote, the single executive prevailed.

1. Definition and function of rhyme.
Rhyme is the correspondence of two or more words with similar sounding final syllables placed so as
to echo one another. Rhyme is used by poets and occasionally by prose writers to produce sounds
appealing to the reader s senses and to unify and establish a poem s stanzaic form.
Rhyme is the repetition of identical or similar terminal sound combination of words. Rhyming words
are generally placed at a regular distance from each other. In verse they are usually placed at the end
of the corresponding lines.
The word is derived from Old French rime or ryme, which may be ... Show more content on

Also in the 7th Century, rhyme was used in the Qur an. The leonine verse is notable for introducing
rhyme into High Medieval literature in the 12th century.
Rhyme entered European poetry in the High Middle Ages, in part under the influence of the Arabic
language in Al Andalus (modern Spain). Arabic language poets used rhyme extensively from the first
development of literary Arabic in the sixth century, as in their long, rhyming qasidas.
Since languages change over time, lines which rhymed in the past may no longer rhyme in today s
language and it may not be clear how one would pronounce the words so that they rhyme.
3. Types of rhyme.
The word rhyme can be used in a specific and a general sense. In the specific sense, two words rhyme
if their final stressed vowel and all following sounds are identical; two lines of poetry rhyme if their
final strong positions are filled with rhyming words. A rhyme in the strict sense is also called a perfect
rhyme. Examples are sight and flight, deign and gain, madness and sadness.
Perfect rhyme
Perfect rhymes can be classified according to the number of syllables included in the rhyme, which is
dictated by the location of the final stressed syllable.
masculine: a rhyme in which the stress is on the final syllable of the words (rhyme, sublime);
feminine: a rhyme in which the stress is on the penultimate (second

Disability Discrimination Act 1995 in the workplace and its effect on employment
Introduction
The act was introduced with the view to eliminate discrimination amongst disabled people in
employment, throughout the assignment I will critically analyse the different areas of the Disability
Discrimination Act 1995 and find out what effect they have had on disabled people in employment.
Definition of disability
A disabled person is someone who has a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and
long term adverse effect on their ability to carry out normal day to day activities (section 1 (1) DDA
1995). The disability discrimination act 1995 was introduced to outlaw discrimination against disabled

By taking these steps the employer could be sure they have done all they can for the employee and
safeguard themselves from any legal action as their dismissal would be justified.
Disability related discrimination
Section 3A(1) of the Disability Discrimination Act states that an employer discriminates against a
disabled person if the discrimination is related to the persons disability or if the treatment they receive
differs from the treatment of persons without a disability unless the employer can actually justify the
less favourable treatment.
In Jones v Post office (2001) Mr Jones worked as a driver for the postal service when he developed
diabetes. After discovering his disability Mr Jones s employers removed him from his driving duties
for health and safety issues, as their policy was that any drivers receiving insulin treatment should not
carry on in their existing role in case they suffered a hypo attack whilst driving. After reviewing their
decision they allowed Mr Jones to return back to his driving duties limiting his driving hours to two
hours in any twenty four. Mr Jones was unhappy at this decision and went to the Employment tribunal
who accepted Mr Jones s claim of disability discrimination on the basis that the limiting his driving
hours was not justified. The tribunal

Brokeback Mountain Essay
Movies can be divided in to so many categories nowadays and there are different reasons why there is
an emergence of these. One reason being that movies evolve with society and this is evident in the
way movies are presented from black and white to colored and now 3D movies. But we must also look
at how the different plots have evolved from the usual light home movies to mafia influenced movies
and now more socially relevant movies. As society evolves, so does our opinions and views on
different ideologies or concepts about life and our surroundings.
In the case of bisexuality, our cultures dictate whether or not we will accept it freely or with a little
opposition. This is most evident in the movie Brokeback Mountain which stirred the ... Show more

This practice is called aretē wherein two individuals seek the excellence that the other possesses and
in the process they are led to a union, even if they are married, that society accepts. Although in the
case of the movie and our society at present, this practice isn t accepted, we can see that people who
lived during that time have an open mind which people should have at present.
The emergence of this movie also shows us that there is an initiative on the part of film directors to
shape society s view on gays. Especially since a lot of people misunderstand them because they don t
take that initiative to see that they only differ in preference and not necessarily in their genetic
makeup. With this in mind it should also be noted that as these directors and other organizations make
those initiatives, people will be more likely to understand and accept others differences and eventually
coexists without prejudice and violence.
According to Heath Ledger when asked about what he can say about the movie, he said, It transcends
a label. It s a story of two human beings that are in love; get over the fact that it s two men that s the
point. This wonderful quote summarizes what everyone should take into consideration. The
bottomline of all relationships should be love. Whether that love would be with a man or woman,
everyone should give that level of respect because no one can dictate who the right one is but

Essay on The Power of Perspective
The Power of Perspective
All I needed was a bow tie. Everything else was packed, and I was ready for the weekend, except that
I needed a new bow tie. I assumed that some store on Boston s posh Newbury St. would have one, and
sure enough I found a store that sold tuxedos and wedding dresses. Upon entering the store, I noticed
soothing classical music playing in the background as the few patrons meandered through the
thoughtfully arranged display room. The sole operator of the store was busy with a customer, so I

urgency in the store clerk. After a few minutes, he asked me if I needed any assistance in a tone that ...

I always try to imagine a situation from different perspectives. When observing someone s actions, I
try to understand the overall situation until I can say to myself I see where they re coming from. In
order to do that you need to have some background information on that person. In most cases this
involves making some intuitive assumptions, but you must be careful, as wrong assumptions can make
a situation worse. With some background information and careful assumptions you can try to put
yourself in their shoes as the saying goes, and then judge people by their actions. I m not saying this
would be a functional design for a court of law, but this is how I deal with small social problems.
For the most part I believe that this is an effective method for dealing with small conflicts because
usually I can understand a person s motives, and that is a step towards finding a solution. With small
conflicts it s usually a matter of conflicting personalities. These problems tend to be harder to solve
than similar problems generated from conflicting interests, as people with conflicting personalities
will do things just in spite of the other person. Such actions tend to create a perpetual problem.
I like my ability to see the other side of a situation, but only for small, insignificant problems. When I
look at larger social issues, a sense of hopeless pessimism spreads through me.

Chicago Economic Crisis
Over recent decades, much of South America has seen economic hardship, decline, and even crisis.
However, the ongoing economic crisis in Venezuela is an especially notable case which requires
pragmatic and feasible solutions. Many assert that the current crisis, which has its roots in corruption
and over dependency on oil, is best solved by economic diversification. Others have argued that the
best solution is to request foreign aid, such as that from the International Monetary Fund. In spite of
this, a combination of history, economics, and logic would indicate that the best solution is to curb the
government s excessive control of the economy.

Organization Background Of Literacy Connections Essay
ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND
Literacy Connections is a 501 (c) (3) non profit organization founded in 1975 as Literacy Volunteers
of America Dutchess County, Inc. We later changed our name to Literacy Connections of the Hudson
Valley, Inc.
Literacy Connections (LC) is dedicated to developing and offering programs and services to support a
literate society. We recruit and train volunteers to provide no cost student centered tutoring primarily
for adults, and we offer programs and services for children and families that promote independence
and enrichment through literacy.
Literacy Connections serves adult students with the lowest literacy level and immigrants lacking the
language skills needed to get a job, help their school age children and navigate society. Volunteers are
recruited, trained and supported to provide one on one or small group tutoring to adult students.
Recognizing that illiteracy is a family issue, our Book Buddies and Classroom Book Buddies
programs recruits volunteers to read one to one once a week with a child who is struggling with
reading in the 2 4 grades. Our goal is to prevent adult illiteracy by helping children achieve grade level
or better reading skills at the critical time when children are transitioning from learning to read to
reading to learn.
Approximately 36 million adults in America are considered to be illiterate; about 14% of the entire
adult population cannot read or is limited to reading at the basic or below basic proficiency levels.

According to behavioral economists, consumers don t always behave rationally, like a market (in

Other psychological factors have an impact on decisions. This explains why very often, consumers
become complacent when faced with the best value proposition. FEAR OF OVERPAYMENT The

A Fairytale s Interpretation Movies create a new medium for fairytales to be enjoyed. The visual
appeal of tales is much greater rather than reading them; however, fairytale films lack an element of
imagination. Cinderella, for example, is a tale that exists in both the written and visual mediums. The
tale as written by Charles Perrault, named The Little Glass Slipper, provides room for imaginative
visual interpretation from his words. An interpretation that movies do not allow. In both the film

Using words in a fairytale would be more difficult and tedious to explain this part of the story. Films
do provide a visual stimulation for audiences, and this Cinderella live action movie provides an
interesting depiction of the fairytale.
Charles Perrault s The Little Glass Slipper provides a readable version of the Cinderella fairytale. This
well known version of Cinderella was not his first take of this tale, which may be how it became so
famous: he managed all the kinks out of the tale for it to be child and adult friendly. This written tale
gives you more context to the tale by the language used. The wording in the story provide deeper
meaning by the connotation of the words. Such language includes odious, wretched, wench,
magnificent, charming, and treasure. These words have ideas around them that associate feelings and
previous experiences. These feelings allow the audience to use their own imagination and experiences
to illustrate the fairytale. When Perrault describes Cinderella s treatment from her step family, this
scene can identify with many readers, thus making their own inferences about the visual aspect of the
tale and its characters. An example would be interpreting it as the demeaning hands and knees labor
while scrubbing soot off the floor. Others can view their own version of hard labor.

Public Media And The Media During The Vietnam War
The role public media played in the Vietnam war was unprecedented: television brought live images
even video clips to Americans sitting room, photographs and reports from the war front brought the
latest news of the battles, documentaries and films depicted the sensational stories from the war and
war heroes. Bearing so many social influences, medias were somewhat blamed for being responsible
for the loss of war by many historians. Most of them attributed the responsibility to the television
which undermined the political and military efforts, and to the journalists and broadcasters who
opposed the war finally led to the burst of domestic anti war sentiments. But that is not true. (New
American Nation) With eloquent supporting evidence, U.S. domestic medias during the Vietnam war
was not the major contributor to the cease fire and the loss of the Vietnam because they pertain

transfer of sensitive reports to the public under government censorship. Lastly for the ineffectiveness
of reports in changing public opinion shown in the poll. Media during war time usually have biases,

Islamic Legal Reformers Of The Twentieth Century
I. Introduction As Talal Asad has noted, religion is by no means disappearing in the modern world,
and, [i]f anything is agreed upon, it is that a straightforward narrative of progress from the religious to
the secular is no longer acceptable. (Asad: 2003: 1.) At the same time, and in relation particularly to
the contemporary rise of Islam, [t]he question of secularism has emerged as an object of academic
argument and of practical dispute. (Ibid.) The common view is that Islam and secular modernism
constitute a duality, forever at odds, while others argue that the religious and the secular are a false
duality and are indeed mutually constitutive of each other. (Agrama: 2). Viewed either way, the
resurgence of Islam gives rise to important questions regarding its relationship to the secular modern
state. In this short paper, I propose to engage with the works of two Islamic legal reformers of the
twentieth century: Mohammed Abduh s classic Theology of Unity , first published in 1897, and
Ahmad Safwat s lesser known article, The Theory of Mohammedan Law, published in a British law
journal in 1920. Though quite different, both works are emblematic of this period in Islamic history
when traditional Islamic law struggled to identify its proper role with respect to the increasing power
and transcendence of the modern secular state. Moreover, each work is representative of two views of
Islam and secular modernism and represent the genesis of both

The Effects Of Genetical Modified Organisms ( Gmo )
Genetical Modified Organisms (GMO s) are created when scientists manipulate an organism s genes
to create a new strain of species with similarities but also differences from the original species. Zika is
spread through a type of mosquito called Aedes aegypti also known as yellow fever mosquito. These
mosquitos originated from Africa and came to the United States through ships. The mosquitos tend to
stay in tropical and sub tropical parts of the world including Argentina to the southern parts of the
United States. These mosquitos go through a complete life cycle going from egg to larva to pupa to an
adult and the life cycle in all takes about 6 weeks to complete. The Aedes aegypti mosquito is known
for carrying yellow fever and now Zika which is why scientists are trying to genetically modify them
to no longer carry these diseases ( Yellow Fever Mosquito .). GMO s are being used to help contain
the spread of Zika and other mosquito held diseases around the world. Zika was first discovered in
mosquitos around 1948 in Africa. Since its discovery Zika has developed from a mild illness to
something that can cause severe neurological complications in those who have been infected (Musso,
et al.,,2016). The increase numbers of people being effected by Zika and the increase in risks
associated with the disease have led to a curiosity of using GMO s to contain the disease.

The right sandal was approximately 44 feet (13 m) east of the western area. According to Judy
Melinek, a San Francisco pathologist who commented on the case as an expert, the official autopsy,
which stated Brown s hand had foreign matter consistent with a gun discharge on it, supported Wilson
s testimony that Brown was reaching for the weapon.According to the detective who performed tests
on the gun, he had to decide whether to perform a DNA test or dust for fingerprints, because only one
test can be performed without affecting the other. One apparent projectile was found near the body.
There were ten spent .40 caliber bullet cases scattered on the south side of the road near Brown s body.
The distribution of the casings, combined with most of the casings being east of the body, is consistent
with the officer moving backward while firing. Blood spatter approximately 25 feet behind Brown s
body suggest that Brown was moving toward Wilson when he was killed.
They also knew that even according to Wilson, Brown never had sole possession of the gun, and if
Brown ever had control of the gun

Book Review Of The Book Blink The Power Of Thinking
The name of the book I read is, Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking . This book is written
by Malcolm Gladwell and was published on April 5, 2005. Gladwell is known as out of the one
hundred most influential people to New York s, Time Magazine. Gladwell is a New York journalist
and author. Authoring four books that made an appearance on New York Times bestsellers list, these
books were, The Tipping Point: How Little Things Make a Big Difference (2000), Blink: The Power
of Thinking Without Thinking (2005), Outliers: The Story of Success (2008), and What the Dog Saw:
And Other Adventures (2009). All of the works he has created touch a great deal on subjects such as
psychology, social psychology, developmental psychology, sociology, and relationships between
people. I obtained this book from an app called, Audible, where I listened to Gladwell narrates the
book himself.
My book, Blink, is a book that s about snap judgments and it s about taking snap judgments seriously.
And it s not a book that says they re great and it s not a book that says they re terrible. It s a book that
says they are both. It can be really good and it can be really bad. And we need to understand them on a
very much more sophisticated level if we were to construct a better world for ourselves. (Malcolm
Gladwell, On Books Podcast) This was a quick explanation of what the book is about from his
professional point of view. In my explanation of the book, Blink is a book about snap

Communism Of The Vietnam War And The Cold War
Communism is an ideology that has a very long history more than one third of the globe. This
ideology is followed by Russia, Cuba, Laos, China, North Korea, and Vietnam. This ideology is the
source of many revolutions and conflicts throughout the history likes the English Civil War, the
Bolshevik Revolution, the Vietnam War, the Korea War and the Cold War. However, what makes
Communism different from other ideologies is its origin, its policy, and its effects on the poor and the
working class.
Communism originated during the Stone Age, at the beginning of our human civilization from the
fourth B. C. as primitive Communism . At that point, everyone had an equal amount of work. Then it
was later being replaced by monarchy and capitalism. Communism has been mentioned in many
books: The Bible, Plato s Republic by Plato, Utopia (1516) by Sir Thomas More, City of the Sun
(1623) by Tommaso Campanella. This ideology also led to the English Civil War, a rebellion among
the poor class (peasant class) and the dominant class. But later being repressed heavily by the
dominant class. After the Industrial Age, the difference between the poor and the wealthy became
clearer, which lead to the rise of modern Communism . According to Marx, the Father of modern
Communism , he used to say: From each according to his ability, to each according to his need (World
History and Cultures). Later on, Marx met Engels. Sharing the same idea of the injustice among
classes, they published The

Essay on How My Spoken Language Changes in Different...
Spoken Language Although I have my own idiolect, the way I speak constantly changes. This is
because I try to adapt my spoken language to suit the situation I am in. There are many reasons for
why I try to adapt my spoken language some of the main reasons being that I am fearful of the
judgements and perceptions that others may make because of the way I speak also being afraid of
exclusion or not being able to fit in and sometimes I feel pressurised into speaking in a certain way.
With my parents I often codeswitch between Bengali (my mother tongue) and English. Aboo money
lagé (Dad I need money). Notice how I go from speaking Bengali to English and then once more back
to Bengali. I use more Bengali to show my parents that even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is to show my parents that I am in touch with me Muslim heritage, and to show that I am proud
of my religion. Also by using Arabic terms it shows my parents that I enjoy learning and practising my
religion which in turn would make them proud. However when I am at school, it is a different context
so I automatically change the way I speak. For example I use phatic talk, which I would never use in
front of my parents because it would show that I am lazy and I am not bothered about the way I speak.
However I use it now to show my friends that I am relaxed and do not take things too seriously which
is a good thing in this context as it makes me seem cool . Also sometimes I use slang words when
speaking with my friends. The slang words I use are usually words I pick up from friends. I use these
words when I am speaking so I feel closer to them and l accepted, as I speak like one of them. I would
never use slang in front of my parents because of the way I fear they may see me. In culture using
slang words gives the impression that you are unintelligent and uneducated. However these
stereotypical views are also view that I fear my friends may have if I was to speak in my mother
tongue Bengali. Although we all speak it I find it difficult because my friends may see me as what
society calls today a freshi . A word used to describe illiterate and uneducated people. When I speak
with my friends we all usually speak informal.

The Deep Sea Drilling Project
The Deep Sea Drilling Project (also known as DSDP) was the first of three international scientific
ocean drilling programs that have operated for forty or more years that was designed to investigate the
evolution of ocean basins by core drilling ocean sediments and the underlying oceanic crust. On June
24th, 1966, a Prime Contract was signed between the National Science Foundation (also known as
NSF) and The Regents at The University of California was signed, this contract was the first phase in
the Deep Sea Drilling Project. The project was based from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at
the University of California and Global Marine, Inc. conducted the drilling operations. The D/V

In Phase II of the Deep Sea Drilling Project the D/V Glomar Challenger drilled and cored in the
Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Red Sea. Phase II
lasted around 30 months and ended on August 11th, 1972 and by that time the project had been
incredibly successful, on the second drill sight they drilled down 3500 feet and discovered salt domes.
Today, the potential of oil being underneath these salt domes is an important avenue for commercial
development, but commercial development and finding oil wasn t what was important for the Deep
Sea Drilling Project or any of it s crew members. The crew member were all about scientific discovery
and discovering the unknown or extrapolating on what already exists. Eventually the crew and the
Deep Sea Drilling Project found what they were looking for. They drilled 17 holes at 10 different sites
along the oceanic ridge between South America and Africa. The recorded samples had definitive proof
for continental drift and seafloor renewal at rift zones. Continental Drift was a theory created by a
German scientist named Alfred Wegener and basically what the theory means is that the Earth s
continents (North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Antarctica, Africa, and Australia) were not
all where they are now on the map and will not

The Assassination Of The War And Formation Of Civil Rights
Political Assassination
Danielle Ferreira
U.S Government
Date
Introduction Political assassination is defined as the act of killing a political figure mainly for political
reasons. In most cases, the motive behind political assassinations is beyond the person who is killed.
Assassinations have been rampant across the globe for ages and these assassinations do cause lots of
political instabilities in a country especially when key personalities such as heads of states are the
victims. In this essay, we shall discuss some of the major assassinations which occurred in history.
These personalities include John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, Julius
Caesar and Robert F. Kennedy.
John Fitzgerald Kennedy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many conspiracy theories have tried to explain who was responsible for Kennedy s murder and some
have cited the involvement of the USSR, FBI, CIA and Cuba among others. The death of Kennedy
remains a mystery despite numerous investigations which have since been carried. There have been no
conclusive prove that Oswald murdered the president and even if he did, people still do not believe
that he acted alone as reported by the Warren Commission.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Martin Luther was a civil rights activist, a clergy and one of the key
personalities behind the formation of the American Civil Rights Movement. The major goal of the
movement was to advocate for the abolishment the racial discrimination of the African Americans
population. King was shot on 4th April 1968 while he was his motel room at Memphis, Tennessee and
was pronounced dead that evening while in hospital2. After the killing, James Earl Ray, who was
convicted for murdering King, escaped but was arrested after two months in London. Many people
believe that the government was involved in the assassination. Following the death of King, lots of
riots and protests emerged in different cities across US.
Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on 14th April 1865 and was serving as 16th President of the
United States from 1861. Lincoln was killed by John Wilkes Booth, a Confederate spy, who was not
happy with how the president supported the African Americans

KHF CORPORATION
SEEDS OF DISTRESS
Jim Layton, controller for Kitty (Hawk Food), Inc. (KHF) was under considerable stress as he walked
toward the chief executive s office. Marshall Horne, the CEO, was not known to take bad news well.
In his hands, Jim held two letters from food suppliers that threatened to cancel KHF s trade credit
accounts. KHF had developed difficulties in cash flow such that their payments on the accounts had
been late, at best. The suppliers provided normal trade terms to KHF, with a 2% discount for early
payment (within 10 days), and a 30 day limit. No purchase limits had been placed on the firm.
KHF had depended heavily on trade credit for the recent expansion of its service area into the Outer
Banks of North ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alright, what s up?
I have some correspondence from some of our business contacts, said Jim. He was trying to avoid
discussing the details in front of Tibbs, but Horne didn t stop the game. It s rather pressing.
Well spit it out! said Horne, obviously getting more agitated. Jim hesitated. Well? nudged Horne.
Jim took a deep breath. Our two biggest suppliers are threatening to cut us off said
Jim. Horne looked up suddenly. Tibbs looked shocked.
And HOW did you get us into that? roared Horne, trying to save face. Lets see, he said, snatching the
letters from Jim. I ll be right back, he said, looking back at Tibbs.
Outside the office, Horne scowled at Jim. What are you thinking, saying that in front of a customer?
I tried to avoid it I asked you to give me a few minutes, replied Jim.
Horne read the letters. Isn t it your job to keep these things from happening? What did they teach you
at that business school anyway? If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. I ll go
see these idiots today and set things straight. Cut me two checks for the balances. Jim stood his
ground. Unfortunately, we haven t collected most of our customer accounts. We don t have enough in
the account to cover even half of one of these replied
Jim. Both of them knew that Horne was supposed to collect accounts due as he made the rounds of his
customers.
Horne smacked the letters in frustration. Get back to

  • 2. The Impact Of Southernization And Westernization Southernization and Westernization took hold of many of the Empires in Europe and Asia at that of 1400 1750 when the Early Modern World began to rise. Colonization, exploration, and the building up of empires were the main concerns during this period. This had quite the effect on the people and kingdoms that were being over taken. Exploration and colonization impacted many empires around the globe because, trade began to increase which spread ideas and goods, slavery affected empires by using them as laborers to build their colonies, and there is a competition between the empires of who can obtain colonies and rise to a higher power. When the Spanish and Portugal had the Treaty of Tordesillas it separated them splitting up the land of which each empire could conquer. The Spanish had a very large part of the Americas while the Portuguese only had the area of Brazil. The Spanish began a conquest of Mexico they fought with the Tlateloclan warriors and the Spaniards entirely defeated them so they could fully take over their land (Tlatelolcan Elder, 564). While Spain took control over the western part of the Americas Portugal was fighting for the land they were given in the east, Brazil. When Pedro Alvares Cabral first went to the land of Brazil he was very unimpressed with the people and the land there he went back to the King of Portugal, Manoel, and reported this to him, he described how the people looked and acted to Manoel. (Encounter in Brazil, 571). Through these primary sources you can see the Portuguese and Spanish are taking control of what is theirs. This led to conflicts between the stronger and weaker empires as they tried to gain more land to become wealthy. Many empires were also trying to gain kingdoms in Africa to keep the slave trade alive so slaves could keep producing good in the Americas. • 3. Liebeck Vs Caveat Emptor Essay Liebeck vs. Caveat Emptor A.Villasmil University of the People PHIL1404 AY2018 T4 Professor: Cecil Blount Liebeck vs. Caveat Emptor In 1992 there was a case between a patron, Stella Liebeck, and McDonald s Corporation (Brusseau, 2012). The case involved a hot cup of coffee that Stella opened, by gripping the cup in between her legs, and resulted in the hot coffee spilling and severely burning her. Fast forward to the end of the case, and we see McDonald s Corporation held liable for the damages and forced to pay Stella Liebeck. During that time, the media had many opinions on who was right or wrong in the case. Many echoed an opinion that the hot coffee should have been an obvious indicator that the contents could cause harm. After all, when one is young they learn the difference between hot and cold and the dangers that come with each. It seems the notion of caveat emptor would fit the situation well. ... It would mean that she was aware she was purchasing hot coffee and by that purchase would be held to logical use of the coffee because of the hot contents. An argument of age could be brought into the picture, given that she was an older adult, and she may not have understood or remembered what could have happened if hot coffee spilled on her. However, that would be discriminatory against her and would be offensive to imply she was not able to make a logical decision due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Issues In The Transgender Community Trans Pandemic The transgender community has been facing much more ridicule than society realizes in our generation, we have been trying to change and accept more and more things. Yet I never realized how much and how little improvement has happened in the past years. While watching The Daily Show, one of my favorite television shows, I heard about the problems I never really have thought about before. Actually realizing all the issues within the transgender community really surprised me. One major problem is the Bathroom Bill, a bill some people are trying to get passed. You wear sweatpants, he wears a dress. Move on. I loved the way the daily show tried to shine some light on the transgender community all while pointing out how ridiculously people are reacting to transgender people living the way they were meant to. In our everyday lives most of us look to the state for protection and security. (Moran, 2015) Citizens expect Britain to preserve public order, protect their rights, and maintain justice for all. While it may sound simple on the surface these tasks are more complicated than they seem. While the crime rate has statistically decreased, there are other factors involved that happen behind the curtain. Each of these factors plays a role in the policies regarding policing. Islam In America Analysis According to the book Islam in America by Johnathan Curiel, one can find evidence that the story of Muslims in America all the way back to beginnings of slave trade to the United States in the 1700 s. About 20% of African slaves that were brought to America were Muslims. During this early times in the country, the number of Muslims is estimated to be around 25,000 but were forced by their owners to convert to Christianity. (Curiel, 2015) Though many Muslim slaves, showed that they had converted, many still held on to their faith in Islam. As the number of Slaves increased from 250,000 to 500,000, it is estimated that the number of Muslims increased. (Curiel, 2015) Through the time of denial of Islam, the Muslims held on and followed their faith and continued to pass down their faith to family. This continued for many years, until the 1890 s when white American Muslims began to change the role of Islam in the United States. This turning point at such a crucial time for the religion, helped Islam spread throughout the country. Alexander Webb proclaimed himself as missionary, and spent his time campaigning throughout the country, speaking about the religion, the building of mosques and more during a time that people believed Islam to be an adversary. However, during the Industrial Revolution in Victorian England, this rift reached its peak. The working class labored for long hours and received miniscule wages, whereas the bourgeoisie grew abundantly wealthy through the labor of the working class. Published in 1848 and 1854 respectively, Karl Marx s The Communist Manifesto and Charles Dickens Hard Times both comment on these troubles. While Bounderby was a member of the lower class in his youth, he has completely turned his back on them. He treats the proletarians with contempt, and he believes that all the proletarians desire to be fed on turtle soup and venison, with a gold spoon. Dickens is creating an irony here. Bounderby believes that all the proletarians want to get rich without working, yet the proletarians are actually doing all the excruciating work in the society. However, the wealth is not going to the proletarians but to Bounderby himself. In contrast, the protagonist of the novel is Stephen Blackpool, who represents the average proletarian. He is not very educated, he works long hours at a difficult factory job, and he gets paid very little for this job. Blackpool is a tragic character who is constantly being taken advantage of by members of higher classes. Bounderby takes advantage of Blackpool through wage labor, and Tom Gradgrind takes advantage of him by framing him for the bank robbery. In the past, people did not attach great importance to find a fulfilling career, because they were busy earning money to support their families. In their mind, they worked only because they had to. People did not pay much attention to the meaning of their careers. In chapter 2 A Short History of Career Confusion is from How to Find Fulfilling Work by Roman Krznaric, the author argues that finding the meaningful career is challenging because people have too much choice now. They feel frustrated that they spend lots of time dealing with dull emails or marketing products they do not really like. In Rethinking Work , author Barry Schwartz writes, Today, in factories, offices and other workplaces, the details may be different but the overall situation is the same: Work is structured on the assumption that we do it only because we have to (1). Some people make a difference. In How To Find Fulfilling Work, the moral philosopher Peter Singer writes, He argues that our greatest hope for personal fulfillment is dedicating our lives and if possible our working lives...especially an ethical one such as animal rights, poverty alleviation or environmental justice (67). Make a difference is a good way to find a fulfilling career. Not only do people make a positive contribution to people and society, but people also reflect their values. They can gradually sense day to day the influence of their work upon an audience from their heart. For example, my dad is a bank teller. Not only is he interested in finance, but he also likes to help others in need. That motivates him to work well every day. Some people think that this job is repetitive and boring. However, my dad enjoys it. He told me a meaningful experience. One day, an old man told my dad that he lost his pass book. He felt so worried and had no idea what to do next. He almost cried and told my dad that the pass book saved all money. Then my dad calmed down him and helped him find his pass book. He tried his best to apply for a simple and quick way to solve the problem. Finally, and old man felt grateful for my dad s help. Making a difference is necessary for us to reflect our values and help others in need. It enriches our life experience. In addition, it enables us to make a difference to other people. • 20. Reasons For Legalization Of Prostitution The legalization of prostitution has been a debatable topic over the years. There are differing viewpoints on the reasons for legalizing prostitution as well as the causes of legalizing prostitution. In the majority of the world today, there is a high level of demand for prostitutes as well as the services they render. Because prostitutes are exposed to a bacterial cornucopia of sexually transmitted diseases, many of them often contract a wide variety of these diseases. Many prostitutes are abused each year. However, because these prostitutes usually fear law enforcement, most of this systemic abuse goes unreported (Wurth et al. par. 2). Prostitution produces an abundance of money that is never taxed, yet this untapped tax revenue could produce economic growth for states that legalize prostitution. However, legalizing prostitution has the potential to create a safe, controlled environment that would benefit not only the prostitute, but it would benefit society as well. Making prostitution illegal creates an uncontrolled environment which does not require prostitutes to use protection. If prostitution remains illegal, then it will continue to be less likely that prostitutes will use protection. According to the journal of the international AIDS society, 11.8% pooled HIV prevalence among female workers in 50 countries (Wurth el al. par. 1). These numbers could decrease if the prostitution occurred in a controlled environment. In Nevada, this strategy can be seen in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction As Talal Asad has noted, religion is by no means disappearing in the modern world, and, [i]f anything is agreed upon, it is that a straightforward narrative of progress from the religious to the secular is no longer acceptable. (Asad: 2003: 1.) At the same time, and in relation particularly to the contemporary rise of Islam, [t]he question of secularism has emerged as an object of academic argument and of practical dispute. (Ibid.) The common view is that Islam and secular modernism constitute a duality, forever at odds, while others argue that the religious and the secular are a false duality and are indeed mutually constitutive of each other. (Agrama: 2). Viewed either way, the resurgence of Islam gives rise to important questions regarding its relationship to the secular modern state. In this short paper, I propose to engage with the works of two Islamic legal reformers of the twentieth century: Mohammed Abduh s classic Theology of Unity , first published in 1897, and Ahmad Safwat s lesser known article, The Theory of Mohammedan Law, published in a British law journal in 1920. The mosquitos tend to stay in tropical and sub tropical parts of the world including Argentina to the southern parts of the United States. These mosquitos go through a complete life cycle going from egg to larva to pupa to an adult and the life cycle in all takes about 6 weeks to complete. The Aedes aegypti mosquito is known for carrying yellow fever and now Zika which is why scientists are trying to genetically modify them to no longer carry these diseases ( Yellow Fever Mosquito .). GMO s are being used to help contain the spread of Zika and other mosquito held diseases around the world. Zika was first discovered in mosquitos around 1948 in Africa. Since its discovery Zika has developed from a mild illness to something that can cause severe neurological complications in those who have been infected (Musso, et al.,,2016). The increase numbers of people being effected by Zika and the increase in risks associated with the disease have led to a curiosity of using GMO s to contain the disease. The pros of using genetically modified mosquitos to fight Zika are the Zika carrying mosquito population ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are countless people with opinions for either side of the argument. One case in particular that has drawn a lot of controversy is the case of 18 year old Michael Brown. He was killed August 9, 2014, in Ferguson, Missouri, a northern Suburb of St. Louis. Brown, an 18 year old black man, was fatally shot by Darren Wilson, 28, a white Ferguson police officer. According to Judy Melinek, a San Francisco pathologist who commented on the case as an expert, the official autopsy, which stated Brown s hand had foreign matter consistent with a gun discharge on it, supported Wilson s testimony that Brown was reaching for the weapon.According to the detective who performed tests on the gun, he had to decide whether to perform a DNA test or dust for fingerprints, because only one test can be performed without affecting the other. One apparent projectile was found near the body. There were ten spent .40 caliber bullet cases scattered on the south side of the road near Brown s body. The distribution of the casings, combined with most of the casings being east of the body, is consistent with the officer moving backward while firing. Blood spatter approximately 25 feet behind Brown s body suggest that Brown was moving toward Wilson when he was killed. They also knew that even according to Wilson, Brown never had sole possession of the gun, and if Brown ever had control of the gun ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All of the works he has created touch a great deal on subjects such as psychology, social psychology, developmental psychology, sociology, and relationships between people. I obtained this book from an app called, Audible, where I listened to Gladwell narrates the book himself. My book, Blink, is a book that s about snap judgments and it s about taking snap judgments seriously. And it s not a book that says they re great and it s not a book that says they re terrible. It s a book that says they are both. It can be really good and it can be really bad. And we need to understand them on a very much more sophisticated level if we were to construct a better world for ourselves. (Malcolm Gladwell, On Books Podcast) This was a quick explanation of what the book is about from his professional point of view. In my explanation of the book, Blink is a book about snap ... • 42. Communism Of The Vietnam War And The Cold War Communism is an ideology that has a very long history more than one third of the globe. This ideology is followed by Russia, Cuba, Laos, China, North Korea, and Vietnam. This ideology is the source of many revolutions and conflicts throughout the history likes the English Civil War, the Bolshevik Revolution, the Vietnam War, the Korea War and the Cold War. However, what makes Communism different from other ideologies is its origin, its policy, and its effects on the poor and the working class. Communism originated during the Stone Age, at the beginning of our human civilization from the fourth B. C. as primitive Communism . At that point, everyone had an equal amount of work. Then it was later being replaced by monarchy and capitalism. Communism has been mentioned in many books: The Bible, Plato s Republic by Plato, Utopia (1516) by Sir Thomas More, City of the Sun (1623) by Tommaso Campanella. This ideology also led to the English Civil War, a rebellion among the poor class (peasant class) and the dominant class. But later being repressed heavily by the dominant class. After the Industrial Age, the difference between the poor and the wealthy became clearer, which lead to the rise of modern Communism . According to Marx, the Father of modern Communism , he used to say: From each according to his ability, to each according to his need (World History and Cultures). Later on, Marx met Engels. Sharing the same idea of the injustice among classes, they published The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is because I try to adapt my spoken language to suit the situation I am in. There are many reasons for why I try to adapt my spoken language some of the main reasons being that I am fearful of the judgements and perceptions that others may make because of the way I speak also being afraid of exclusion or not being able to fit in and sometimes I feel pressurised into speaking in a certain way. With my parents I often codeswitch between Bengali (my mother tongue) and English. Aboo money lagé (Dad I need money). This is to show my parents that I am in touch with me Muslim heritage, and to show that I am proud of my religion. Also by using Arabic terms it shows my parents that I enjoy learning and practising my religion which in turn would make them proud. However when I am at school, it is a different context so I automatically change the way I speak. For example I use phatic talk, which I would never use in front of my parents because it would show that I am lazy and I am not bothered about the way I speak. However I use it now to show my friends that I am relaxed and do not take things too seriously which is a good thing in this context as it makes me seem cool . Also sometimes I use slang words when speaking with my friends. The slang words I use are usually words I pick up from friends. I use these words when I am speaking so I feel closer to them and l accepted, as I speak like one of them. I would never use slang in front of my parents because of the way I fear they may see me. In culture using slang words gives the impression that you are unintelligent and uneducated. However these stereotypical views are also view that I fear my friends may have if I was to speak in my mother tongue Bengali. Although we all speak it I find it difficult because my friends may see me as what society calls today a freshi . A word used to describe illiterate and uneducated people. Today, the potential of oil being underneath these salt domes is an important avenue for commercial development, but commercial development and finding oil wasn t what was important for the Deep Sea Drilling Project or any of it s crew members. The crew member were all about scientific discovery and discovering the unknown or extrapolating on what already exists. Eventually the crew and the Deep Sea Drilling Project found what they were looking for. They drilled 17 holes at 10 different sites along the oceanic ridge between South America and Africa. The recorded samples had definitive proof for continental drift and seafloor renewal at rift zones. Continental Drift was a theory created by a German scientist named Alfred Wegener and basically what the theory means is that the Earth s continents (North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Antarctica, Africa, and Australia) were not all where they are now on the map and will not ... In his hands, Jim held two letters from food suppliers that threatened to cancel KHF s trade credit accounts. KHF had developed difficulties in cash flow such that their payments on the accounts had been late, at best. The suppliers provided normal trade terms to KHF, with a 2% discount for early payment (within 10 days), and a 30 day limit. No purchase limits had been placed on the firm.
