Designing Design And Application Design
Because RPP was unable to have the application developed at this time, objectives 5 7 were unable to
be completed. However, the modified objectives were successfully completed. These objectives
encompassed creating an up to date GeoMedia database compatible with Smart Client, designing the
application, and performing an economic feasibility study. Moreover, the application design involved
all technical sight triangle calculations. Once RPP has the financial resources available, the application
design is ready to be sent to the developer for building. 6.1 Database and Application Design 6.1.1
Data The database has successfully been updated and implemented into GeoMedia. Each attribute has
not been filled, except Crossing ID, Railway, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adding this category allows the inspector to know prior to arrival that they can skip the crossing.
6.1.2.2 Xing_Access (Crossing Accessibility) Cross Accessibility is a new piece of data being
collected. Crossings classified according to the road class (grid, highway, or urban) and the crossing
class (public, private, or GS). Generally speaking, public crossings are inspected whereas private
crossings are not; they are not under MHI jurisdiction. However, if a private crossing is publicly used,
it can be deemed appropriate to inspect. Moreover, where there is public right of way crossing a rail
right of way, even if there is no developed roadway, it is technically a public crossing. However, these
undeveloped crossings are not inspected, as there is no road. However, RPP wished to retain these data
points. A crossing accessibility attribute s purpose is to further distinguish public and private crossings
so an inspector can know prior to visiting the site whether the grade crossing should be inspected or
not. A crossing s accessibility can be considered normal, publicly used (PU), or undeveloped (UD).
GS, normal private, and UD public crossings are not inspected. Normal public and PU private
crossings are inspected. PU public and UD private crossings are not possible combinations. In the
application, these accessibility options will be unable to be selected once a crossing classification is
chosen. For example, once a crossing is

Grasset s Version Of The Femme Fatale
In Belle Époque France, prints were used to advertise products and services and therefore the image of
the woman was widely employed. She appeared as femme fatale, seductive, the New Woman, a
mother and a virgin. However, Grasset s approach depicted her as a ruined woman, a product of a
corrupted society and this could be his version of the femme fatale gone wrong. Gauguin was
preoccupied by a different theme that of Schopenhauer s au déla, which he portrayed through
imagining the French colony of Tahiti prior to its colonisation. Both artists were influenced by
Japanese prints, partly because they represented an opposition to the bourgeois civilisation of late
nineteenth century society at a time when established values seemed insufficient ... Show more

Furthermore, he experimented with prints for...subject matter...more undercurrent...under the radar
(Burlingham in McQueen, 2014) in the art world. Grasset had used the medium since the 1880s and
here, by using it for art and not for commercial purposes, he is reinventing printmaking. It is a move
away from the Academic tradition of the original artwork and creates a more egalitarian art for the
masses. In La Vitrioleuse and La Morphinomane , he presents us with two examples of the Parisian
female archetypes that are commonly illustrated as afflicting French society (Levesque, 2014) and
they represent a marked move away from his previous depictions of women. Here, he refuses to use
the...woman as a mere ornamental motif...his model is the contemporary...Parisian woman (Plantin in
Roos Rosa de Carvalho and Vellekoop, 2013: p110). However, his view is a misogynistic one as he
demonstrates the dangers of society giving women freedom. These prints are part of the Art Nouveau
movement and both depict women with wild, natural hair and arabesque

My Favorite Quote Analysis
My favorite quote will always be by Sappho in which she says, Someone, I tell you, in another time
will remember us. She was right. She s remembered for being a gay poet and is immortalized despite a
lot of her works not being found completely. It s one of my favorite quotes because identifying as a
nonbinary queer person who also likes girls, I can relate to Sappho a lot when she writes about her
desire for love and personal heartbreaks. This quote also brings me ease as even in another time
someone will still remember me. I think we all want to leave a legacy of some sort, and for me I want
my legacy to be centered around my experience and accomplishments as an American born Punjabi
artist and social activist, who was also highly active in the LGBTQ+ community. I want someone to
remember me because it is a vicious cycle that people of color and members of the color in the
LGBTQ+ community get forgotten in history. History is white washed. But the idea that I will do
enough in my life to be remembered in some shape or form, reminds me that my efforts and failures as
a Punjabi artist and social activist are just part of a legacy I am starting.
Moving on, my strength and determination did not magically appear one day. I had a lot of amazing
people who are a part of my support network who helped show me what healthy self love and growth
is supposed to be. One of the people I will be highlighting is my AP English teacher. Candice Ligator,
was one of the best, and one of my favorite teachers in my high school career. She was a big part of
my support system when it came to being a trans and queer student who had a lot of family issues. She
was also a big inspiration to me as she told us stories full of struggles growing as a teacher. She talked
about how starting off as a teacher at first made her cry every night, showing me that it takes
persistence to be adept in a profession. Her choices on the pieces of literature she taught were
engaging as they touched upon feminism, gay rights, and race. This allowed me to explore both my
interest in writing and in social justice. Reading about personal experiences from Mary Shelley, Oscar
Wilde, and Ralph Ellison was inspiring as it allowed me to see that I can

Abolitionist Movement
After America was founded in 1776 many people decided to colonize and live in this unfamiliar land.
The land already had their own natives, but most of the travelers that colonized there did not respect or
care about them or their land. The people wanted to make this land their property and country. To have
a strong country people needed power and one thing that made that power more accessible was
enslaving the natives and making them their property. Enslaving natives later become part of their
culture and it later spread to enslaving African Americans. African Americans were seen as people that
were stronger and more hard working than the Native Americans. This led to African Americans
getting captured and being sent to America to work. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

reliable since all of them had the same idea. Some sources like ushistory.org and accessible
archives.com both had information about William Lloyd Gairrson but accessible archives talked about
his past and helped readers know what type of person William really was. Ushitory.org however had
the most information about the anti slavery societies and it gave backround information about it, too.
Many of the sources used were the same information, but with little pieces of supplementary
information. The fact that people fought to abolish slavery was a courageous movement, but there
were some negative aspects. Many people did not like the fact that people thought slavery was a
horrible concept and it caused huge conflict. When the number of slaves started to decrease many new
problems emerged such as plantation owners not having enough help to grow crops. As slavery
diminished even more all those problems were gone. This massive accomplishment helped make

Byron Irish America Summary
Reginald Byron, in Irish America, has pro vided a thorough historical and ethnographic picture of Irish
American ethnicity in Albany, New York. In addition to deepening our knowledge of the immigration
of Irish people to the United States in the nineteenth centu ry, Byron also forcefully argues against
total izing narratives of ethnicity. By focusing on an Irish population that constituted a significant
portion of the population of Albany, we can see that ethnicity is a complex phenomenon. Byron begins
his discussion of the Irish in Albany, in Chapters 2 and 3, by delving into the history of immigration in
New York State. He shows that the Irish, coming to Albany before, during, and after the Potato
Famine of the mid 1800s, were

Corporate Corruption In The Gilded Age
The Gilded Age was an interesting time where the government implemented a laissez faire stance on
companies and the economic world. Due to this stance there would be a frequent amount of unethical
actions and policies applied to common practice for larger business. The bigger unethical players in
the game included: the railroads, Tammany Hall, and even the Federal government itself.
The transcontinentals connected the two major strains of Gilded Age corporate corruption: financial
and political. The idea of building the transcontinental railroad seemed to be a good idea. The US
government employed the Central Pacific and the Union Pacific, two railroad companies that would
build a railroad across the continent. When the US government employed ... Show more content on

Louis to collect liquor taxes form distillers and distributors. At the time tax was 70 cents per gallon so
all he had to do was record the amount of sales and report back to the government. This should be a
relatively easy job for someone in a powerful position. But in similar fashion to the rest of the era
corruption was enticing, easy, and extremely lucrative. Mr.McDonald quickly realized all he had to do
was report fewer sales to the government and keep the discrepancy for himself. This system soon
spread to copious amounts of government officials and became known as the whiskey ring . It spread
beyond St.Louis to other midwest locations as well but the center remained the same. The whiskey
ring lasted roughly four years and historians estimate that an astonishing two thirds of liquor was
untaxed during this time in St.Louis. Just like any other monumental movement government officials
would find out. Agents in the treasury department soon realized what others were doing but the Gilded
Age theme of corruption remained the same and instead of bringing justice to those who fractured
rules they threatened them with justice unless they agreed in allow them in on the profits. The money
from the tax fraud would go all over from government officials, to liquor distributors and distilleries,
even to financing the republican party s successful campaigning of Ulysses S. Grant. Historians

Racial Profiling of the Black Male
Racial Profiling of the Black Male Racial profiling occurs when authority uses someone s race or
ethnicity to decide whether or not to use enforcement. This controversial act is highly illegal and is
mostly caused by stereotypes of certain races and ethnicities. Black males are mostly targeted due to
the color of their skin, the type of car they drive, the genre of music they are listening to and how they
are dressed. Some call this act DWB, driving while black. Black males are stopped and searched
constantly with no probable cause just because of their race and gender. If a group of black males are
riding in a car with hats on, and loud music they are more likely to get stopped than a group of white
males doing the same thing. It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If black males would clean up their look and educate themselves, stereotypes would change. Black
males should stop walking around sagging and acting foolish in public. Maybe if people would not
draw attention to themselves, the police would not target them as a threat. The police are here to keep
citizens safe and out of harms way. According to Peter Braham, racial profiling (which encompasses
stop and frisk ) is a matter of fierce argument between the police, who contend that they are merely
responding to crime patterns , and their critics, who contend that blacks and Hispanics are unfairly
targeted by the police. If police officers and crime stoppers did not try to stop those that look like a
threat to society, everyone would be very unsafe. No one ever thinks about how many times the police
racially profiled a criminal and was correct. The police are here to get criminals off of the streets and
have the right to do their jobs. In the true story Fruitvale Station, Oscar Grant was racially
discriminated after getting into a fight with an ex inmate at a train station. After the fight, officers hand
cuffed him and his friends and threw them on the ground. While Grant s friends were let off, Grant
was innocently shot and killed by one of the officers. In no, shape, form or fashion was the situation
correct or supposed to happen the way it did. Oscar Grant did not deserve to be killed the

Whenever possible, consent should be conducted in privacy and it must be ensured that the patient or
their next of kin, or their legal guardian is fully aware regarding the objective and process of giving
consent, be comfortable and composed (Malaysian Medical Council, 2013). There are various types of
consent, where it includes implied consent, expressed consent, informed consent, verbal consent and

inferred from a person s actions, the facts and circumstances of a particular situation or in some cases,
by a person s silence or inaction. This type of consent may become an issue if there is any dissent or

An Excerpt From The Curse Of Trixy
The Curse Of
Trixy
The lights flickered and then went out, then the sirens started, she was coming, and we knew it wouldn
t be the last. For one hundred eighty six years our town has been stuck under the curse of the snake,
the curse of Trixy. Every two years a statue of an interminable snake in the center of our town came to
life. She would then terrorize the town, slaughtering people left and right. She called herself Trixy, and
every time she comes people say she gets stronger. Her massacre has already begun, and all I can do is
sit helplessly in a safe house. Helplessly. I hate being helpless.
People around me are praying that their friends and family will live, some crying because of who s
already died. I know my sister is gone. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Slowly, Trixy gazed across the room, her icy blue eyes like slits. How odd. I thought this would be
hard, looks like I had thought wrong. She hissed evilly. Suddenly, I heard a baby s cry. My aunt,
Josephine held her baby boy close to her chest, repeating the same little lullaby. The poor thing! Trixy
slithered over to her, leering at the baby hungrily. I couldn t bear this anymore. I yank out my pocket
knife and I slowly snuck over to Trixy. She obviously heard me, for she turned around and and smiled.
Well, well, well, isn t this interesting. A mortal verses a being of amazing power... I wonder who will
win this fight? Her little tongue, black as the night sky, popped in and out as she spoke. Suddenly, a
rush of adrenaline went through me. I was being talked to like I was a five year old weakling! Heh, I
always thought you d be bigger than this. I taunted coolly. If I could get her out of the safe house with
taunts, she just might get shot by our police officers. Just like before. Except this time, she hopefully
won t go back to her statue to heal. Trixy glared at me and hissed,l What? I smiled, trying not to let my
voice shake or let my knees wobble. Yeah, you re ten times smaller than I imagined. Also that icy
glare of yours is like a cat glare. A house cat glare! It really isn t that frightening. Trixy kept glaring at

Little Red Riding Hood And Goldilocks Similarities
Growing up, I read many fables and tales of fiction. Two of the most notable being Little Red Riding
Hood and Goldilocks. The reason for this is because they are so relatable to our own childhood of
being mischievous, careless, and imaginable.
In the story, Little Red Riding Hood ,a young, obedient girl is given the task of traveling to help her
sick granny. Little Red Riding Hood was very outgoing and courageous taking a trail though the
woods. Even though she knew about a wolf in the woods, she took the risk and kept going. When she
came across the wolf she was very naive to think the wolf was her granny. She was quick witted and
quickly got the attention of a woodsmen for help.

Disaster Preparedness
Disaster Preparedness Plan
A disaster is generally defined as an event in which illness or injuries surpass resource capabilities of a
community or medical facility (Ignatavicius Workman, 2010). Disaster preparedness is a process of
ensuring that an organization has complied with the preventive measures and is in a state of readiness
to contain the effects of a predicted disastrous event to minimize loss of life, injury, and damage to
property. Disaster preparedness can also provide rescue, relief, rehabilitation, and other services in the
aftermath of the disaster, as well as have the capability and resources to continue to sustain its
essential functions without being overwhelmed by the demand placed on them. The American Nursing

The Hero s Journey By Wes Moore
Without realizing it initially, each Wes Moore has been greatly affected by the life events occurring as
they grew up because as they matured physically, they also matured mentally by gaining self
knowledge; the same way a hero does throughout a heroic journey. However, while both have gone
through the heroic journey, their fate was not identical because of poor choices and irreversible
mistakes. Wes Moore, the successful author of his book, has specifically divided his book into 8
chapters, where each shows a year that had a decisive impact for him and Wes. Similar to his book, the
hero s journey also consists of 8 parts where the hero goes through the most important stages of the
journey. The correlation between the life events and the patterns of a heroic journey intertwined
because both only point out the most crucial parts and have the same end results, leaving the
characters to go through each event or stage only as they mature.
To an average pair of eyes, all Wes Moore did was grow from a decent boy to a mature and respected
man, nothing unusual there. However, to a pair of insightful eyes, Wes Moore growing from childhood
to adulthood is the equivalent to the process of a successful journey. The pattern of a hero s journey
correlate to the life events of Wes Moore, because in each event, the results were identical. The
adventure began in the first chapter when Wes lost his father at such a young age. His call to his
journey was that he had something taken away from

Productivity Improvement in Screw Type Biomas Briquettes...
Biomass densification by screw briquetting produces uniform, dense and durable solids desirable for
gasification, process heating, power generation and other heating applications which are currently run
by coal. Due to high wear rate, the screw and mould used for forming the briquettes deteriorate
leading to regular production stoppage and considerable down time losses. Hence Indian entrepreneurs
are apprehensive to adopt screw briquetting technology in spite of its potential. In this work
improvement in productivity parameters are tested for predetermined replacement of screw before
considerable damage is done. They were found to be significant and aiding quality briquette output

If the excess biomass materials are compacted to briquettes near their source they can be transported
to longer distances, stored for more duration unaffected much by humidity [9] and put into versatile
uses. There are many methods of densification available and screw briquetting is one good choice for
producing high quality briquettes, a sample of which is shown in fig 2. These types of briquettes have
uniform dimensions, high calorific value, less moisture are desirable feed stock for gasification
systems, process heating and power generation applications. But the screw briquetting technology is
having its own shortcomings like, the life of its parts like screw and mould are very short due to high
wear rate, need of skilled labors to run the machine and wastage of energy for heating the raw material
and the mould. The heating process is needed to eliminate moisture and volatile matters and to melt
the lignin content in the raw material which acts like a binder. The quality of briquettes produced
justifies the use of skilled labor. Due to high wear rate of screw and mould particularly the screw
which have very short life about 4 to 15 hrs [10] there are regular stoppages of production,
reconstruction of tools and wastage of output.Research works are going on all over the world in
designing compact briquetting machines,

The Tipping Point By Gladwell Tails
Introduction In The Tipping Point, Gladwell tails trends from their very beginning to their end and he
tries to figure out why some ideas tip and others do not. Firstly, Gladwell mentions the three rules for
the tipping point which are: contagiousness, the fact that little causes can have big effects, and
transformation happens in one moment. In the introductory chapter of the book, Gladwell made use of
the syphilis epidemic of Baltimore, along with other outbreaks of disease in order to illustrate his three
rules. He reaffirms the three rules more solely as the law of few, the stickiness factor and the power of
context. He began by discussing the incomprehensible recovery of then terminally uncool hush

Life And The Truth Behind Of Siddhartha, Phaedrus, And...
Part 1 Siddhartha, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, and Oedipus the King, while
seemingly being very different stories, all have similar ideas about truth and meaning, knowledge
versus wisdom, and the impact of oneself internally, which all culminate into the realization of value
within oneself. To find the truth it has been said that one has to look within. It is within those
parameters that Siddhartha, Phaedrus, and Oedipus found what they searched so longingly for. On the
topic of Siddhartha, his search for enlightenment was more of a search for the meaning of life and the
truth behind it. As Thomas J. Schoenberg and Lawrence J. Trudeau put it, The novel, which examines
themes related to spirituality and personal growth, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Siddhartha, Siddhartha himself states that, any truth can only be expressed and put into words when
it is one sided. (Hesse, 129). meaning that truth can only be found on your side, because the truth
could be interpreted multiple different ways depending on your perspective. That point is further
enforced within Zen, as Phaedrus ponders existence. But no one is willing to give up the truth as he
sees it,... (Pirsig, 74). As for Oedipus, there is no exact quote available to support the ideas of truth and
meaning, however the development of his learning throughout the story, and the moral of the story to
be learned provide the evidence to support the existence of truth and meaning within the story.
Oedipus learns what he desires to know about Thebes and why it was crumbling only by discovering
his own history. And through that he learned why they must endure the trials and tribulations that were
brought about by the gods. So while these characters developed how to come up with the truth, they
still did not know how to apply it, which leads to the battle between knowledge and wisdom.
Knowledge, just knowing the facts, versus wisdom, having experienced the facts firsthand, are two
very different ideas. Knowledge itself is able to be taught, thanks to instructors. However, wisdom is
not able to be passed down, because people are unable to project experiences onto other people. It is
impossible to tell the story of your experience and expect the

Antoinette s Identity In Wide Sargasso Sea By Jean Rhys
In the novel Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys, Antoinette Mason s identity is frequently discussed.
Antoinette, the daughter of ex slave owners and a woman whose life is dictated by mental illness,
grows up in the Caribbean as a Creole during the nineteenth century. As a young adult, she is forced
into a marriage with a white man from England, an event that ultimately leads Antoinette to her
downfall. At the start of the novel, Antoinette and the characters around her are optimistic about their
identity and future. As the plot progresses, Antoinette increasingly struggles to understand who she is
and what her future entails. Ultimately, Antoinette loses her identity and her purpose. Throughout the
text there are many reoccurring motifs. A motif ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Antoinette s husband takes her to England, he locks her up in the attic and leaves her without a
sense of self. Antoinette says that There is no looking glass here and I don t know what I am like
now.... Now they have taken everything away. What am I doing in this place and who am I? (107).
Without being able to see herself through a looking glass, Antoinette doesn t understand who she or
what her purpose is, which is very upsetting for her. This loss of self identity causes Antoinette to act
out and worsens her mental health issues. When Antoinette sneaks out of the attic and sees herself in
the looking glass, she says she sees the ghost, the man with the streaming hair (???). After being
locked away, she is unable to recognize her own physical appearance. Through this description, Rhys
is showing that Antoinette s identity has been completely taken away from her and recognizing the
importance of knowing who we are. As, without an identity, Antoinette no longer has a purpose for

Dichotomy In Paradise Lost And Murder Mysteries
The common dichotomy of good versus evil is as old as the story of the world, and is timeless in its
relevance to almost everything we do in life. This simple concept is seen in many places throughout
our society including pieces of literature. After reading Paradise Lost and Murder Mysteries, it is clear
that Milton and Gaiman portray this dichotomy through Satan and God, however, they do so in two
very different ways. In Paradise Lost, John Milton uses detailed language and imagery to develop a
kind, powerful God, and a Satan that is an equal adversary of God. In Murder Mysteries, Neil Gaiman
also uses specific language and imagery, however, he creates the opposite: a monstrous God, and a
gentle Satan. The characters of Satan and God in Paradise Lost and Murder Mysteries participate in a
role reversal, causing confusion among ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As readers, we see the use of Satan s diabolic pow r for evil actions (Milton IX 95). This omnipresent
demonic power creates the perception that Satan is abusing his power and using it for the wrong
purpose. Milton describes Satan as a very powerful character in order to show that he is a worth
opponent of God. Milton s description of Satan gives the reader the perception that Satan is very
powerful and controlling. In Gaiman s Murder Mysteries, the complete opposite viewpoint is
portrayed. After the angel Carasel is found dead, Lucifer appears in Raguel s cell and asks him to find
who was responsible for this... and take the vengeance... on whosoever caused this (Gaiman 300). In
this scene, Lucifer gives Raguel power and control over the situation, which is unlike Milton s Satan.
Lucifer also tells Raguel to take vengeance on the culprit, however in Paradise Lost, that is an action
that Satan would do himself. The conflicting perceptions of Satan throughout Paradise Lost and
Murder Mysteries are also seen in the character of

Analysis Of Hunger Of Memory Richard Rodriguez
This story takes place in old Sacramento, California around the 1950 s. A lot of this excerpt from
Hunger of Memory covers Richard Rodriguez s childhood and how he has become a grown up. He is
the third of two Mexican immigrants in Sacramento and has two sisters and one brother. Rodriguez
shows his youth as unusual, because of to the battle between his private family life and his public life

Mandatory Vaccination Argumentative Essay
Controversy over mandatory vaccination has become a highly debated topic in our society. Andrew
Wakefield is known for starting the anti vaccination group . In 1998, he published a study stating that
vaccines had an association with increasing rates of autism. It was eventually proven that he falsely
recorded data to support his theory and he lost his medical license as a result (Andrew, 2016). Even
with his data being proven false, many parents are still worried and scared of vaccinating their
children. Several studies since then have not been able to find any association with vaccines and
increasing rates of autism, further proving his study was falsified. With factual studies and their
results, I believe better educating parents about the facts of vaccination and eliminating vaccination
exemptions based on personal beliefs woud be the most beneficial resolution to his debate.
There have been several studies attempting to find any sort of association with Autism and
vaccination. One example was an analysis of data available from three managed care organizations.

might think that child beauty pageants are beneficial because they teach discipline, patience, and
improve self confidence, in reality, they give children an unrealistic idea about what a perfect body is

The Pros And Cons Of Tariffs
United States of America, being one of the largest economies for importing steel, is imposing taxes of
around 256% on china. It is found out that china has been accused of dumping and therefore it is
selling its steel at a lower price. US is imposing taxes at other countries too, such as India, south
Korea and Italy. The domestic producers, are suffering because the imports have been rising, as stated
in the article Imports of all steel products through October rose 3.9 percent in 2015 , and the quantity
demanded of the domestic goods are reducing as the price levels are not matching, and hence the
tariffs are imposed.
Tariff is a form of trade protectionism, which is applied when there is free trade between the countries,
and the domestic consumption of good produced by the domestic producer is less. Hence, Tariff
basically is a tax levied on imported goods. The US govt is imposing tariffs on china and few other
customers in order to protect the domestic economy.

colonies to increase their wealth and expand their economies, but religious freedom played a factor in
British colonization. The fundamental differences between the two countries led to a difference in the
way the colonies of each country interacted with its government. The relationship of British and

The British Parliament took a hands off approach in the maintenance of its colonies; it allowed
colonists set up whichever governments and policies they felt were most beneficial to them. The
Spanish monarchy, in contrast, maintained rigid control over its colonies by appointing their governors
and creating their laws without allowing colonists to have a voice in their policies. The approaches of
their respective governments caused vast differences in the economies of the British and Spanish
colonies. British colonies relied on a variety of activities for survival, including farming and trading;
the governments and the locations of each colony determined how it could best support itself. The
economic activity of Spanish colonies was, again, much more rigid. Spanish colonies had a near
universal trading economy, and trade was strictly controlled by the Spanish monarchy and enforced by
its military. The approaches Britain and Spain had towards colonization were reflected in their
treatment of Native Americans. Ultimately, both countries were primarily interested in the expansion
of their empires, the enrichment of their economies and their own political power, and their treatment
of the natives is indicative of these aims. As Spain s only purpose for colonization was to conquer land

The Role of the Concept of Need and Inequality Social Policy
From the inauguration of state organised welfare the concepts of need and inequality have been at the
centre of discussions and debates on social policy. Since the 19th century it has widely been accepted
that the state has some responsibility towards attempting to fulfil some of civil society s needs and the
needs of those most at risk. Changing definitions and attitudes surround the concepts of need and
inequality; this means any discussion of these instantly encapsulates the political and ideological
debates which affect all aspects of social policy. Titmuss (ed. 1987) writes that collectively provided

Yet there were many different ideas on what was seen as real need and who was seen as deserving of
welfare. In the Victorian era people were either deemed as deserving or undeserving poor; basically
meaning that their poverty was either created by their own failings such as alcohol abuse or by
eventualities which were out of their control such as job losses or illness (thus making them
deserving) (Fraser, 1984). With the expansion of State welfare, and the bureaucracy which came with
it, the poor were no longer categorised into deserving or undeserving instead their needs were
assessed. The introduction of the means test established a way of determining the extent of the needs
of people. Although this may appear a fair way of organising welfare it has in fact had detrimental
effects; according to Deacon Bradshaw (1983) the means test is socially divisive as it has given rise to
gross distortions in the distribution of income amongst poorer families . This system has also failed to
deliver benefits to many people who need them as the means tested service has reflected values
approved by society for example marriage, thus leaving those who do not conform to these values in a
worse position financially (Deacon Bradshaw, 1983). Although means testing should essentially
redistribute wealth through taxation, evidence has shown that it has done little to combat

time. Ford uses optimism in his films; he represents the struggles in real life situations, like he does in
?Grapes of Wrath?, even though the film is based off of a book. This is a way for him that he can
connect to the audience. He directed many war films, and they were authentic because he was in the
war and he saw what happened in many different areas. For Spielberg, he believed in extraordinary
circumstances, which is why he directed many movies about dinosaurs and aliens. But, in these
movies, symbolism is portrayed because it asks if there is other life out there. This is what makes it
enticing to the audience. Both of these men are some of the greatest of all time and they are both very

School newspapers, which students can subscribe for free, are the objects that can easily reach

Ham Di Indonesia
Show more

Menurut mereka SKB 4 menteri yang baru baru saja dikeluarkan dirasa menyebabkan jutaan buruh
terancam terkena PHK.

A Summary Of The Bell Jar
1. List the major topics/issues Sylvia Plath explores in The Bell Jar (at least four). To what extent are
the issues still relevant today? The major topics explored in The Bell Jar include the inferiority of
women, the wrongful treatment of the mentally ill, sexuality and the double standard for men and
women on sex, and conformity to society s expectations. The inferiority of women refers to society s
view that women are subordinate to men, and are supposed to serve men after marriage, become
housewives, and bear babies. This perception of women in today s society has largely declined, due to
the constant call for gender equality. While there still exist the suppression and discrimination of
women, the proponents of which are heavily condemned. The wrongful treatment of the mentally ill at
the time includes the overall perception that mentally ill is a choice not a serious disease, the
condemnation and alienation resulting from that perception, and the doctors indifferent, sometimes
inhumane attitude toward the mentally ill, which includes electro shock and solitary confinement.
With great advancements in the medical field on mental conditions and an increase in people with
mental disease, today people are generally sympathetic toward the mentally ill, who are treated
appropriately by the doctors. Plath also highlights the issue of the double standards for men and
women on sex, where men can pursue sexual intercourses freely, but women are supposed to keep
chastity until marriage. Esther is troubled by this double standard throughout the novel, regarding sex
as how a man controls a woman, and that she would only become free and own her body after she
does a fitting for birth control, and loses virginity to Irwin, whom she will never see again. This issue
has become relatively irrelevant today, as premarital sex is not considered a moral issue anymore. In
the novel, Esther constantly struggles between being herself and conforming to society s expectations.
In Esther s case, the society expects her to become a housewife and stop pursuing her passion once she
is married. Confronting against society s expectations, Esther feels at times hopeless and disillusioned.
This issue is still relevant today,

Crossings classified according to the road class (grid, highway, or urban) and the crossing class (public, private, or GS). Generally speaking, public crossings are inspected whereas private crossings are not; they are not under MHI jurisdiction. However, if a private crossing is publicly used, it can be deemed appropriate to inspect. Moreover, where there is public right of way crossing a rail right of way, even if there is no developed roadway, it is technically a public crossing. However, these undeveloped crossings are not inspected, as there is no road. However, RPP wished to retain these data points. A crossing accessibility attribute s purpose is to further distinguish public and private crossings so an inspector can know prior to visiting the site whether the grade crossing should be inspected or not. A crossing s accessibility can be considered normal, publicly used (PU), or undeveloped (UD). GS, normal private, and UD public crossings are not inspected. • 3. Grasset s Version Of The Femme Fatale In Belle Époque France, prints were used to advertise products and services and therefore the image of the woman was widely employed. She appeared as femme fatale, seductive, the New Woman, a mother and a virgin. However, Grasset s approach depicted her as a ruined woman, a product of a corrupted society and this could be his version of the femme fatale gone wrong. Gauguin was preoccupied by a different theme that of Schopenhauer s au déla, which he portrayed through imagining the French colony of Tahiti prior to its colonisation. Grasset had used the medium since the 1880s and here, by using it for art and not for commercial purposes, he is reinventing printmaking. It is a move away from the Academic tradition of the original artwork and creates a more egalitarian art for the masses. In La Vitrioleuse and La Morphinomane , he presents us with two examples of the Parisian female archetypes that are commonly illustrated as afflicting French society (Levesque, 2014) and they represent a marked move away from his previous depictions of women. Here, he refuses to use the...woman as a mere ornamental motif...his model is the contemporary...Parisian woman (Plantin in Roos Rosa de Carvalho and Vellekoop, 2013: p110). • 4. My Favorite Quote Analysis My favorite quote will always be by Sappho in which she says, Someone, I tell you, in another time will remember us. She was right. She s remembered for being a gay poet and is immortalized despite a lot of her works not being found completely. It s one of my favorite quotes because identifying as a nonbinary queer person who also likes girls, I can relate to Sappho a lot when she writes about her desire for love and personal heartbreaks. This quote also brings me ease as even in another time someone will still remember me. I think we all want to leave a legacy of some sort, and for me I want my legacy to be centered around my experience and accomplishments as an American born Punjabi artist and social activist, who was also highly active in the LGBTQ+ community. I want someone to remember me because it is a vicious cycle that people of color and members of the color in the LGBTQ+ community get forgotten in history. History is white washed. But the idea that I will do enough in my life to be remembered in some shape or form, reminds me that my efforts and failures as a Punjabi artist and social activist are just part of a legacy I am starting. Moving on, my strength and determination did not magically appear one day. I had a lot of amazing people who are a part of my support network who helped show me what healthy self love and growth is supposed to be. One of the people I will be highlighting is my AP English teacher. Candice Ligator, was one of the best, and one of my favorite teachers in my high school career. She was a big part of my support system when it came to being a trans and queer student who had a lot of family issues. She was also a big inspiration to me as she told us stories full of struggles growing as a teacher. She talked about how starting off as a teacher at first made her cry every night, showing me that it takes persistence to be adept in a profession. Her choices on the pieces of literature she taught were engaging as they touched upon feminism, gay rights, and race. This allowed me to explore both my interest in writing and in social justice. Reading about personal experiences from Mary Shelley, Oscar Wilde, and Ralph Ellison was inspiring as it allowed me to see that I can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To have a strong country people needed power and one thing that made that power more accessible was enslaving the natives and making them their property. In addition to deepening our knowledge of the immigration of Irish people to the United States in the nineteenth centu ry, Byron also forcefully argues against total izing narratives of ethnicity. By focusing on an Irish population that constituted a significant portion of the population of Albany, we can see that ethnicity is a complex phenomenon. Due to this stance there would be a frequent amount of unethical actions and policies applied to common practice for larger business. The transcontinentals connected the two major strains of Gilded Age corporate corruption: financial and political. The idea of building the transcontinental railroad seemed to be a good idea. But in similar fashion to the rest of the era corruption was enticing, easy, and extremely lucrative. Mr.McDonald quickly realized all he had to do was report fewer sales to the government and keep the discrepancy for himself. This system soon spread to copious amounts of government officials and became known as the whiskey ring . It spread beyond St.Louis to other midwest locations as well but the center remained the same. The whiskey ring lasted roughly four years and historians estimate that an astonishing two thirds of liquor was untaxed during this time in St.Louis. • 21. The Tipping Point By Gladwell Tails Introduction In The Tipping Point, Gladwell tails trends from their very beginning to their end and he tries to figure out why some ideas tip and others do not. Firstly, Gladwell mentions the three rules for the tipping point which are: contagiousness, the fact that little causes can have big effects, and transformation happens in one moment. In the introductory chapter of the book, Gladwell made use of the syphilis epidemic of Baltimore, along with other outbreaks of disease in order to illustrate his three rules. He reaffirms the three rules more solely as the law of few, the stickiness factor and the power of context. He began by discussing the incomprehensible recovery of then terminally uncool hush puppies shoes in the midst of a few of hipsters in Manhattan s cutting edge regions in the 1990s, a development which soon extended across the United States and resulted to exponential increases in the company s sales. Using this sensation as an introduction to the book s methodical theme, the author states that he will recognize, dissect and give details on the mechanisms by which certain trends occur, while others fail. Chapter 1: The Three Rules of Epidemics Gladwell declares that most trends, styles, and occurrences are natural and spread according to paths of transmission and carriage that are patently similar. Part 1 Siddhartha, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, and Oedipus the King, while seemingly being very different stories, all have similar ideas about truth and meaning, knowledge versus wisdom, and the impact of oneself internally, which all culminate into the realization of value within oneself. To find the truth it has been said that one has to look within. It is within those parameters that Siddhartha, Phaedrus, and Oedipus found what they searched so longingly for. On the topic of Siddhartha, his search for enlightenment was more of a search for the meaning of life and the truth behind it. As Thomas J. Schoenberg and Lawrence J. Trudeau put it, The novel, which examines themes related to spirituality and personal growth, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Siddhartha, Siddhartha himself states that, any truth can only be expressed and put into words when it is one sided. (Hesse, 129). meaning that truth can only be found on your side, because the truth could be interpreted multiple different ways depending on your perspective. That point is further enforced within Zen, as Phaedrus ponders existence. But no one is willing to give up the truth as he sees it,... (Pirsig, 74). As for Oedipus, there is no exact quote available to support the ideas of truth and meaning, however the development of his learning throughout the story, and the moral of the story to be learned provide the evidence to support the existence of truth and meaning within the story. Oedipus learns what he desires to know about Thebes and why it was crumbling only by discovering his own history. And through that he learned why they must endure the trials and tribulations that were brought about by the gods. So while these characters developed how to come up with the truth, they still did not know how to apply it, which leads to the battle between knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge, just knowing the facts, versus wisdom, having experienced the facts firsthand, are two very different ideas. Knowledge itself is able to be taught, thanks to instructors. However, wisdom is not able to be passed down, because people are unable to project experiences onto other people. It is impossible to tell the story of your experience and expect the ... • 24. Dichotomy In Paradise Lost And Murder Mysteries The common dichotomy of good versus evil is as old as the story of the world, and is timeless in its relevance to almost everything we do in life. This simple concept is seen in many places throughout our society including pieces of literature. After reading Paradise Lost and Murder Mysteries, it is clear that Milton and Gaiman portray this dichotomy through Satan and God, however, they do so in two very different ways. In Paradise Lost, John Milton uses detailed language and imagery to develop a kind, powerful God, and a Satan that is an equal adversary of God. In Murder Mysteries, Neil Gaiman also uses specific language and imagery, however, he creates the opposite: a monstrous God, and a gentle Satan. Milton s description of Satan gives the reader the perception that Satan is very powerful and controlling. In Gaiman s Murder Mysteries, the complete opposite viewpoint is portrayed. After the angel Carasel is found dead, Lucifer appears in Raguel s cell and asks him to find who was responsible for this... and take the vengeance... on whosoever caused this (Gaiman 300). In this scene, Lucifer gives Raguel power and control over the situation, which is unlike Milton s Satan. • 26. Mandatory Vaccination Argumentative Essay Controversy over mandatory vaccination has become a highly debated topic in our society. Andrew Wakefield is known for starting the anti vaccination group . In 1998, he published a study stating that vaccines had an association with increasing rates of autism. It was eventually proven that he falsely recorded data to support his theory and he lost his medical license as a result (Andrew, 2016). Even with his data being proven false, many parents are still worried and scared of vaccinating their children. Several studies since then have not been able to find any association with vaccines and increasing rates of autism, further proving his study was falsified. With factual studies and their results, I believe better educating parents about the facts of vaccination and eliminating vaccination exemptions based on personal beliefs woud be the most beneficial resolution to his debate. It is found out that china has been accused of dumping and therefore it is selling its steel at a lower price. US is imposing taxes at other countries too, such as India, south Korea and Italy. The domestic producers, are suffering because the imports have been rising, as stated in the article Imports of all steel products through October rose 3.9 percent in 2015 , and the quantity demanded of the domestic goods are reducing as the price levels are not matching, and hence the tariffs are imposed. Tariff is a form of trade protectionism, which is applied when there is free trade between the countries, and the domestic consumption of good produced by the domestic producer is less. Since the 19th century it has widely been accepted that the state has some responsibility towards attempting to fulfil some of civil society s needs and the needs of those most at risk. Changing definitions and attitudes surround the concepts of need and inequality; this means any discussion of these instantly encapsulates the political and ideological debates which affect all aspects of social policy. In the Victorian era people were either deemed as deserving or undeserving poor; basically meaning that their poverty was either created by their own failings such as alcohol abuse or by eventualities which were out of their control such as job losses or illness (thus making them deserving) (Fraser, 1984). With the expansion of State welfare, and the bureaucracy which came with it, the poor were no longer categorised into deserving or undeserving instead their needs were assessed. The introduction of the means test established a way of determining the extent of the needs of people. Although this may appear a fair way of organising welfare it has in fact had detrimental effects; according to Deacon Bradshaw (1983) the means test is socially divisive as it has given rise to gross distortions in the distribution of income amongst poorer families . This system has also failed to deliver benefits to many people who need them as the means tested service has reflected values approved by society for example marriage, thus leaving those who do not conform to these values in a worse position financially (Deacon Bradshaw, 1983). • 45. A Summary Of The Bell Jar 1. List the major topics/issues Sylvia Plath explores in The Bell Jar (at least four). To what extent are the issues still relevant today? The major topics explored in The Bell Jar include the inferiority of women, the wrongful treatment of the mentally ill, sexuality and the double standard for men and women on sex, and conformity to society s expectations. The inferiority of women refers to society s view that women are subordinate to men, and are supposed to serve men after marriage, become housewives, and bear babies. This perception of women in today s society has largely declined, due to the constant call for gender equality. While there still exist the suppression and discrimination of women, the proponents of which are heavily condemned. The wrongful treatment of the mentally ill at the time includes the overall perception that mentally ill is a choice not a serious disease, the condemnation and alienation resulting from that perception, and the doctors indifferent, sometimes inhumane attitude toward the mentally ill, which includes electro shock and solitary confinement. With great advancements in the medical field on mental conditions and an increase in people with mental disease, today people are generally sympathetic toward the mentally ill, who are treated appropriately by the doctors. Plath also highlights the issue of the double standards for men and women on sex, where men can pursue sexual intercourses freely, but women are supposed to keep chastity until marriage. Esther is troubled by this double standard throughout the novel, regarding sex as how a man controls a woman, and that she would only become free and own her body after she does a fitting for birth control, and loses virginity to Irwin, whom she will never see again. This issue has become relatively irrelevant today, as premarital sex is not considered a moral issue anymore. In the novel, Esther constantly struggles between being herself and conforming to society s expectations. In Esther s case, the society expects her to become a housewife and stop pursuing her passion once she is married. Confronting against society s expectations, Esther feels at times hopeless and disillusioned. This issue is still relevant today, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
