The Necessity Defense in the Killing of an Innocent Third...
1 Introduction
The general defence of necessity has long been disputed. The South African and English legal systems
are intrinsically opposite, and neither seem to escape controversy. These systems differ greatly on the
legal subject of defence of necessity in the context of killing an innocent third party. The legal aspects
of this defence, as well as accompanying problems which may arise, will be briefly discussed in terms
of the South African as well as the English law. Utilitarianism and Kantianism will be used to analyse
specific case law that made an enormous contribution to the legal dispute regarding necessity.
2 Necessity
Necessity can be described as the voluntary conscious decision to break the law in order for a lesser ...

According to this Constitution, every person has the right to life and the right to equality. With a
successful defence of necessity for the murder of an innocent person, these basic human rights would
be infringed upon, which is legally unacceptable. Thus, a case should fail when using the defence of
necessity for the murder of an innocent person.
2 2 English Law
The United Kingdom has no constitution, which is why English law can only be found in the common
law of the United Kingdom. This common law does not regard the general defence of necessity as a
justification, but rather as an excuse to a crime which is then classified as duress, and it does not
recognise the defence of necessity to any murder. The English law, to my opinion, is still quite unclear
as to whether or not the ground of justification of necessity, as to the unlawfulness of a crime, is
accepted or not. The reason for this is because quite a clear position had been taken up by the courts in
the United Kingdom regarding this matter, until the recent case of the conjoined twins, which led to a
dispute in the English law as to the ground of justification of necessity.
2 3 Case Law
Seen as S v Goliath, R v Dudley and Stephens, and the conjoined twins cases have all set out the legal
precedent to which two countries are to be governed by, they will be briefly discussed by using the
analogy of Utilitarianism as well as Kantianism. The basic premise of utilitarianism is that the

What Does Soccer Mean To Me
I am not someone who changes minds often. Even though I always stick to myself and believe what I
say and think, I actually have changed my mind on something. I have changed my mind on soccer. I
used to think that soccer was a boring sport to watch and play, and that it was mostly for girls. Now I
find the sport different and therefore, I enjoy it and have learned to appreciate it. I was born in Mexico
and my entire family are Mexican, which someone could think that soccer is our passion. Not
necessarily, because other sports are enjoyed as well in Mexico. Where we come from, baseball is the
most popular sport in those parts. Growing up in the United States and loving sports, soccer was
obviously not one of my favorite sports. In fact, I disliked

A Brief Report On Fossil Fuels
Executive Summary
Fossil fuels are used as a main source of energy all over the world, including Canada. The burning of
fossil fuels is the world s leading source of emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), which is one of the
greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming. In residential construction, Canada has become
aware of the effects of fossil fuels and is adopting a new way of building with an environmentally
friendly green approach using Geothermal Energy Pump Systems. In residential homes, Geothermal
Energy Pumps are systems that can achieve exact functions of standard convection systems without
the harmful effects of fossil fuels. These systems will significantly lower the amount of energy
required to heat a home, leading to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our cities are growing and so is our rate of power consumption. Luckily for us there is an alternative
to traditional HVAC systems. Geothermal technology uses a piping system (commonly called a loop )
filled with water installed underground that absorbs the heat from solar energy stored just below the
earth s surface [2]. Geothermal HVAC systems differentiate themselves from common systems as they
do not burn fossil fuel to generate heat [3]. They do, however, use minimal electricity to power the
pump to circulate water through the piping system, but compared to current HVAC methods three to
five units of energy are supplied as heat for every one unit used to power the system. During the
summer the system essentially functions in the opposite manner by absorbing the heat in your home
and transferring it back into the earth [4]. In this report the reader can learn about the current practices
and the alternatives for residential HVAC systems, the technology limitations of this method and its
trends, and a conclusion. Current Practices and Alternatives

What Was The Rationale At Common Law For Making Burglary...
Short Response
Q.1. What was the rationale at common law for making burglary and arson felonies? Both burglary
and arson have the word dwelling in their statutes. Under common law, a dwelling referred to a person
s home (and under common law, the crime of burglary had to materialize after dark, when people are
more likely to be home). These types of crimes are aggravated when there are people present in the
dwelling at the time of the crime. Thus, the rationale at common law for both of these crimes to be
treated as felonies was to protect an innocent person at home.
Q.2. What is the difference between the crimes of robbery and extortion? Both robbery and extortion
are theft crimes that use force or threats of force/coercion. Both of the crimes also require the specific
intent to permanently deprive the owner of property. However, they differ in a number of ways. In the
case of robbery, there must be immediate threat of harm whereas extortion requires threat of future
harm. Therefore, in robberies, the compliance must also be immediate and in the case of extortion,
victims may need to comply at some point in the future. In robberies, physical harm is used to deprive
the victim of property. In extortion, the harm may be physical, economic, or it can be the exposure of a
secret. Because physical harm is the preferred method of choice in robberies, the crime occurs in
person rather than through mail or over the phone like in the case of extortion.

Bumper Sticker Coexism
One problem in today s society that I would like to change is the viewing of different religions as
inferior to one another. The bumper sticker Coexist is something that I strongly stand behind. The
meaning behind the sticker is that all religions and sexes and races can peacefully coexist without
judgement and or discrimination. Many people believe that this is not possible, however it is
sometimes their views which hinder them from believing in a peaceful coexistence between religions
and genders. I would like to change this in the world, I would try to change this through examples and
breaking stereotypes. When I was growing up I was a very well taught Christian, we attended Grace
Church in downtown Greenville SC. Where I was taught

Tony Smith Die Analysis
Die, made in 1968, is a minimalist sculptural artwork by renowned American artist Tony Smith. Smith
had originally prototyped the sculpture in 1962, when he made a six inch cardboard model, but he did
not have Die fabricated until 1968. The final format of Die is a six foot cube of quarter inch hot rolled
steel that is held together by internal steel bracing. To have it created, Smith worked with the
Industrial Welding Company in Newark, New Jersey, which owes to its rusty, industrial external
appearance. As one of first steel sculptures, it went on to inspire much of his later work. During
exhibitions, the 500 pound steel Die sits on the floor, inviting patrons to walk around it and view it
from one or more sides at a time. As Smith explained,

cell phones where Maria Perez, a business development specialist, secured an order of 100,000 units
with this major chain, which is an opportunity to the company to increase their production and their
profit. Cell phones are very important to the community these days for business, to keep in touch with
the family or just to feel independent and secure. The first cell phone was created in 1973 by Martin

Our recommendation to San Juan Cell Phones, taking in consideration the risk is to accept the order
from Big Box and buy the 100,000 phones from the OEM Company, which will be able to meet the
deadline, make an identical phone to the Alpha model, and the price will be fourteen dollars for each
unit. This alternative will generate a profit $100,000.00, since cell phones would be sold at fifteen
dollars as shown in Table 1 3. The earning are not going to be substantial but at the end we are not
going to lose the customer; promote our company, attract potential customers, which will bring even
bigger profits to the company without cost control. Also we can expand the company and at the end is
going to generate new employments and the possibility of take the company to a major chain level. In
conclusion San Juan Cell Phones is a company that has the opportunity to grow and already have
products that gave them a good profit, but there is always some space to improve their products. At
this moment if when we use all the different strategies for the incorporation of new products starting
with the cost comparison, identify alternatives that increment the cost, analyze the different risk,
establish recommendation and elaborate a work plan that benefit the company. It is important to

How I Was Successful Developing Work Related Relationships
Given the amount of time that I have actually been full time, I believe that I was Highly Successful in
developing work related relationships. I feel that know our entire team and the other two finance
teams. Getting involved in activities such as Habitat for Humanity and Hyperstream have only
enhanced these relationships. I also feel that with most of the team I am to a point of if my work is not
up to par, any teammate is comfortableness with calling me out on it, and telling me how I should
improve. One area I know I can improve is working with our business partners who submit SM tickets
or have issues for the person on call. I could have improved communication with them about the
progress of the issue or SM ticket.
I have done a thorough job at making sure my work supports our team goals and standards. As far as
coding standards I am picking them up very quickly and even getting to the point of suggesting
enhancements of other peoples work to align more with our department standards. On ISSM I have
made sure to document any helpful resources that make our code more consistent, and add comments
to propose change to my teammates code, or comments to justify/agree to change my own code in
code reviews. I also do my best to integrate Agile methodologies when appropriate. I feel that I have
played a large part in helping our ISSM team start down the Agile road.
As far as this goal, I was mostly in the learning phase of what are and how to complete the executables

No Fugitive Muggle Born, Half Blood, And Blood Traitors
Most fugitive muggle born, half blood, and blood traitors had been picked down one by one. In the
beginning, after the battle had been once, they scattered by roaches. It had been easy enough to find
various safe house as they stupidly hid in hordes, clinging together. Sure, one or two would fight,
however the others would look on with hopelessness shimmering in their eyes.
Not every fugitive was returned to Azkaban. Most of the males were killed simply because they
brought more trouble than they were worth. The Weasley family, for example, was almost completely
terminated except for three of the children.
Life carried on, not peacefully, not normally. But it continued.

Despite the inevitable wear that sprung from years in Azkaban, Rabastan had still managed to retain a
youthful, somewhat cruel spirit. Now, however, the lines in his face had deepened and his eyes had
grown weary. There were many a night that Antonin and Rabastan spent in the Lestrange parlor with a
glass of Fire Whiskey and the bitter tongue that came from the fatigue spawned from a cause that
neither had enough heart left to advocate.
As he and Rabastan looked upon the row of girls with hollow cheeks and sickly skin, Antonin could
not identify who he hated more: Rabastan who convinced him to come, or himself, who agreed.
The girls wore the dirty, striped rags of Azkaban prison. Some had bruised faces. Others still had the
tears of dried blood stuck in place that told of past punishments. They were connected by glowing
shackles on their wrists that emitted a power surge of energy.
Alecto Carrow seemed to take pleasure in her position as warden to the new women s ward in
Azkaban. Her cruel eyes and yellow sneer in the direction of the girls was disconcerting. Upon further
examination, Antonin spotted a large, blunt ring on one of her fingers that was the exact size as some
of the marks on the girls skin.
Rabastan looked over the girls, the excitement worn away as he took in the appalling sight. Antonin
chose to stare at the floor.

Narcissism Of Minor Differences Analysis
AHMED A. MOHDHAR STUDENT NUMBER: 213237417 POLS 3200: GLOBAL CONFLICT
AND SECURITY (I) FINAL ESSAY: IDENTITY AS A CAUSE FOR THE SOMALI CONFLICTS
Identity continues to be a major cause for many wars, both within and without a country. History has
proven that conflicts within the borders mostly involve people with very little difference between
them. Most of civil wars in nations often start as ethnicity feuds and end up to full scale wars. In the
chapter, The Narcissism of Minor Differences, Blok argues that it is often the small differences that
lead up to prolonged struggles (p115, 2000). Somalia is an example of a nation where majority of its
people share the same cultural and religious background but for a third decade now, members ... Show

There have been several Islamic militant groups in Somalia with the aim of controlling the country. Al
Shabaab is the current of those groups with a claim to make Somali an Islamic state, while at the same
time getting rid of the inter clan wrangles. However, the group s actions were more of polarizing the
communities along religious lines. The Narcissism of minor difference applies here as well; Somalia s
population is overwhelmingly Muslim. However, Al shabaab has an extremist view of Islam and
intends to make everyone follow the same ideas, those who do not, they believe deserve to die.
Solomon argues that Al Shabaab s form of Islam contradicts with most of Somali s cultural beliefs,
hence creating a major rift between the militants and the population (p352, 2014). The group use the
worst kind of violence against people they believe do not follow the right Islam; from beheading and
lynching alleged offenders to bombing local mosques, restaurants, and learning institutions (various).
Again, all of their victims inside Somalia are Muslim Somalis who worship the same God as them, but
according to them, they worship Him the wrong way. Blok in trying to justify his claim cited a Balkan
expert, Hammel on the conflict in the former Yugoslav republics (p126, 2000). He argues that the Serb

Zoe s Kitchen
Zoës Kitchen began in 1995 as a family run restaurant in Homewood, Alabama. The company s
owner, president CEO, John Cassismus had turned his attention from his own business ventures to the
family business, with desires to build a world class company. Mostly frequented by mothers with
small children and white collar employees in the area, the restaurant catered to those consumers with a
desire for healthy foods at comparatively lower prices. As of December 2005 there were 16 locations
in five different states. The brand was strong and synonymous with freshness, home style goodness
and family recipes. The menu boasted healthy selections, mostly with a Greek influence, (i.e. chicken
pitas roll ups, salads dinner plates) which consumers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The focused differentiation strategy largely depends on a buyer segment that seeks special product
attributes (i.e. healthier food, lower comparative cost, quick service) and on the company s ability to
stand apart from its rivals (Thompson et. al, 153). In its uniqueness, Zoës Kitchen has the ability to be
different and had no national rivals emulating its format or menu. SWOT AnalysisStrengthsIt is clear
that the major strength for Zoës Kitchen is its people. First, John Cassismus himself is an asset worth
discussing. John built the company from a single, family run restaurant into the existing 16 location
operation. Dear to his heart, John fostered the business which was inspired from the kitchen of his
very own mother, Zoë. He was described as being optimistic, sales oriented, an entrepreneur, a
visionary and hard working. Two previous successful ventures gave John the knowledge and
experience he would require. Zoës Kitchen s growth may even be linked to the effect of a
learning/experience curve (Thompson et. al, 53). While John s experiences didn t necessarily provide
large economies of scale (for cost cutting purposes), his knowledge did allow him to recognize the
importance of excellent human resource management, a clearly defined strategy, building brand
loyalty and strong business systems. Second, John built a healthy workforce with well trained
employees. Stores had very little turnover; many of the employees had been with

California, California The Fresh Water
Introduction The Earth is a huge planet this is covered by 70 percent water. Astonishingly, from the 70
percent of the worlds water the human population can only use 1 percent because the rest of it is salt
water, frozen, or in some way unattainable (Santa Clara Valley Water District, 2016). Humans have
found many different ways to obtain this 1 percent of fresh water they need, but the techniques vary
depending on location. In San Jose, California the fresh water is obtained through 3 major sources:
groundwater, imported surface water, and local mountain surface water. These 3 sources contribute
different amounts of water to the San Jose community but their contribution can vary due to factors
such as weather and global warming. Imported surface water composes about 50 percent of San Jose s
water supply, while ground water composes roughly 40 percent, and local mountain surface water
composes approximately 10 percent (Santa Jose Water Company, 2016).
Groundwater
Groundwater is water that seeps through the ground and gets stored underground. The supply of
groundwater is always changing because it is constantly used and replenished. The groundwater
supply replenishes and grows due to rain and snow melt and can decrease due to things like droughts
and heavy usage. Depending on the type of surface of the ground as much as 20 percent of the rain
and snow melt can seep into the ground or as little as 5 percent (Raymond, 1988). Areas where as

Hiroshima And The Atomic Bomb
On August 6th, 1945, the United States of America dropped the atomic bomb in Hiroshima, Japan.
This bomb decimated over two hundred thousand Japanese citizens, and caused the Empire of Japan
to surrender ending World War II. In his book Hiroshima, John Heresy reveals the stories of six
survivors, and how their lives were changed following the bombing. As you might expect, the time
succeeding the attack was rather hectic. Even more so for physicians and nurses, as thousands of
people were rushing towards them for medical assistance. Two physicians, Dr. Masakazu Fujii, and
Dr. Terufumi Sasaki, have survived to tell their stories. Dr. Fujii ran a hospital that overlooked a river.
When the bomb exploded, Dr. Fujii was blown off his feet and landed in the water along with the
remnants of his hospital. Dr. Sasaki was much luckier than Dr. Fujii, because he remained uninjured
and immediately started caring for those close to him. At the time the bomb exploded, Reverend Mr.
Kiyoshi Tanimoto is helping a friend move his daughter s belongings and Father Wilhelm Kleinsorge,
who was recently suffering from a stomach illness, was resting on his porch. Mrs. Hatsuyo Nakamura
had three children, and when the bomb exploded, she was looking out the window. She gathers her
children from the wreckage, and takes them to Asano Park, which was designed for use as an
evacuation area. Miss Toshiko Sasaki is a clerk, and when the bomb exploded, was at her office.

4th Period When you hear the term biome, you think of plants and animals in the same biodiversity. A
biome is a group of similar ecosystems that cover a broad area, and maintained under the climate
conditions of the region, especially such a community that has developed to climax. Biomes are often
defined by abiotic factors such as climate, relief, geology, soils, and vegetation. There are five major
categories of biomes on earth. In these five, there are many sub biomes, under which are many more
well defined ecosystems. Do you know the most important biomes? The Desert biome is one of the

Persuasive Essay On How To Apply Makeup
How to Apply Makeup: Step by Step We all hit the age of first wanting to wear makeup, but we all run
into the same problem. How do we apply it? There are so many steps and products to use but not
everyone knows what to use or how to apply it. You can find many videos online of girls doing their
makeup, but today I will explain a step by step process of how to apply it and what tools you should
use. The very first step you should do is wash your face. This step should be done every time before
doing makeup. Before you ever do your makeup you should have a clean canvas before you start
applying products to your face. If you have dry, flaky patches on your skin, you could exfoliate. Most
exfoliating scrubs have small rough microbeads in them. As you rub the scrub onto your face in
circular motions, it will remove the dry patches. By doing this, it will help to make your foundation go
on smoother. After you wash your face, you will want to apply a moisturizer, another extremely
important step. The moisturizer will nourish all of the dry patches that the exfoliator could not
remove. Moisturizers are made for every skin type. For example, there are moisturizers for oily skin,
dry skin, combo skin, and nighttime and daytime. You should pick a moisturizer that is suitable for
your skin type. You only need to apply a dime size amount to your entire face. If you apply too much,
the excess moisturizer will sit on top of your skin and not sink in. You will want to let the moisturizer

Sexism In Workplace
Sexism in the workplace Throughout human history, the female gender was seen as lesser hen men.
Women were told they couldn t vote until the 1910 s, they were put down for doing jobs like
construction working, mining, and factory work. In fact, the first major push for women in working
class jobs in America wasn t until the 1940s. The main reason for this was that the U.S needed mass
production to beat the Axis powers in World War Two. But things have changed, right? We are living
in the age of equality where men and women are treated as equal, and neither are put down for their
genders. So why is it all over the news about men and women not being treated equal? Constantly we

know that your media is lying to you. The wage gap isn t nearly as large as it is made out to be. The
equation for the women s pay gap, as told by American Progress s website, calculated by dividing the
median earnings of full time, year round, working women by the median earnings of full time, year

on which data source is used in the calculation. Now do you notice anything missing? It does not take
in occupation, skill level, previous experiences, pretty much it doesn t mention anything to do with
qualifications for the job. The reason everyone thinks that the pay gap is a thing is because of the
media. They ll Do anything to get the public riled up that they ignore facts. These big media source
outlets get so involved in politics that they block out any distinct point made. So, to sum up, the wage
gap does not exist to the extent claimed because It does not take in the idea of occupation of the

What Are The Devices Used In The Rube Goldberg Machine
Two of the devices in the Rube Goldberg machine are the lever and the wheel axle. The lever is a
device that reduces the amount of force needed to move an object, or lifting a load (fulcrum, force and
a load). An example of a lever would be a see saw, a see saw is a play ground equipment that
resembles a lever. This would be an example because it makes it easier to lift someone up who may be
heavier than an average child. Another example of the lever is a stapler, this is another example
because the staple also has fulcrum, effort and a load. The stapler works as a lever because of the way
it is used, the pivot point is in the back of the stapler, the force is where it is pressured, and the load
would be between the staple section and the

Differences in Childhood Mental Health Throughout the World
Developmental psychopathology is the study of behavioural health and adaptation in a context of
development (Masten, 2006). The study indicates when behaviour diverts from normal and goes
wrong and is also aimed at providing a clear understanding of developmental disorders and mental
health problems in childhood and adolescence putting into consideration, differences that exist in
developmental stages as they concern various countries. For instance, Children in Norway start to go
to school at the age of 7 while in England, at the age of 5 and in Nigeria, 2years. In order to
understand maladaptive behaviour, we must have a clear understanding of normal behaviour. For

Meditation Argumentative Essay
The many improvements in a person s life that can be experienced through meditation are wonderful.
The world can seem so fast paced and hectic that even a few minutes a few times a day can make a big
difference. The calming and soothing relaxation of a guided meditation can help people survive
beyond the harder times life often has to offer. A good meditation guide is where a beginner should
start when entering into meditation.

Even if only taken a few minutes at a time, and only once or twice a day, a person will open
themselves up to living without stress and turmoil. It has been said that the blood chemistry of a
person undergoing guide meditation is different than that of someone experiencing stress. Meditation
allows this calming change to eventually affect other parts of daily life without having to meditate, so
long as meditation itself is practiced on a regular basis.
To begin properly using meditation in one s life, start by creating a list of goals. These should be
things one is willing to accomplish and interested in achieving. Meditation has been able to help
people recover from addictions, deal with chronic pain and long term diseases, and experience
serenity. Whether one is seeking peace or to achieve something, have the list of goals clear in your
mind.
Once a set list of goals is in place, find a good spot within the home to meditate. It s important that
this place be comfortable to sit in and spend time in, a welcoming place. It s also important that this
meditative space be free from regular interruptions. Consider a spot away from the front door and

Destruction Of The Neurons Responsible For Involuntary...
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also called Lou Gehrig s disease, is a
neurodegenerative motor disease that results in the destruction of the neurons responsible for
involuntary muscle movement (NINDS 2014). Patients are determined to have ALS if they have both
upper motor neuron disease and lower motor neuron disease (Gordon 2011). Many people that have
been diagnosed with ALS are seen in wheelchairs or if the person is in the early onset of ALS, using
other walking devices. This is because in 65% of patients, ALS begins with weakness in the arms,
legs, and body, therefore this results in the loss of capability to walk (Gordon 2011, A.D.A.M. 2012).
Most patients live for approximately three to five years after symptom onset and usually die when the
muscles in the chest stop working, which causes their heart and lungs to stop functioning as well
(Gordon PH 2011, A.D.A.M. 2012). This is caused by muscles weakening until atrophy and
fasciculations occur, leading to the brain being unable to control voluntary movement (NINDS).
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is classified as a motor neuron disease (NINDS).
The nervous system is made up of neurons that take in information through our senses and then
processes it to the rest of the body(IQWig 2012). After this, motor neurons send a signal from the
nerve cell in the brain, to the brain stem, down the spinal cord, and cause a reaction in the muscular
system (NINDS 2014). An example of this would be

Michael Ignatieff s One Country Saved Its Jews
Even though France s officials didn t help save them, there were other European countries that
protected their Jewish population from the Nazis, such as Denmark. During WWII, Denmark was
occupied by Nazi Germany in 1940. During this time, while the Nazis tried to round up Danish Jews
to send them to concentration camps, there was considerable opposition to the action. In his article,
One Country Saved Its Jews. Were They Just Better People?, Michael Ignatieff maintains that When,
in October 1943, the Gestapo came to round up the 7,500 Jews of Copenhagen, the Danish police did
not help them to smash down the doors. The churches read letters of protest to their congregations.

Neighbors didn t betray them and instead helped them escape and others would provide housing for
the night after running away from the Nazis. Ignatieff mentions the reasons why only Denmark would
protect their Jews when occupied when France gave their Jews willingly. The king of Denmark
promised collaboration with the Nazis, so their relationship between the Nazis was uneasy, but
cooperative. In the same way, the Nazis in turn left their government untouched as Ignatieff states in
the text, The Germans, for their part, put up with this frigid relationship: they needed Danish food, and
Danish cooperation freed up German military resources for battle on the Eastern Front, and the Nazis
wanted to be liked. They wanted their cooperative relationship with Denmark to serve as a model for a
future European community under Hitler s domination. This means it was because of these reasons
that the king, the Orthodox Church, and a few key Denmark politicians were able to threaten the Nazis
when they tried to round up the Jews, because they were able to threaten to stop their compromise if

A Landmark Supreme Court Case
A landmark Supreme Court case is one in which a precedence is set and there is an impact on society.
There are many reasons for the importance of landmark cases and the studying of such cases. Some of
these reasons are to study how the judicial branch works, try to understand how decisions made in the
judicial branch affects laws and everyday life, and predict how current issues and cases will be
affected by past decisions (The Judicial Learning Center, 2012). There are many examples of Supreme
Court cases that are considered to be a landmark, but one example is Texas vs. Johnson. Outside of the
1984 Republican National Convention in Dallas, Texas, many people protested President Ronald
Reagan s policies. Among the protestors was one man named Gregory Lee Johnson. This man was so
upset by the policies of the President that he burned an American flag in protest. By doing this, a
statute in Texas was violated. This statute prevented the desecration of an American flag if it could
possibly anger other people amongst the protest. Johnson was arrested and charged with this violation.
He was later tried in court and convicted, but he made an appeal stating that by burning the flag he
was expressing his rights of symbolic speech which are protected by the first amendment
(uscourts.gov). The definition of symbolic speech is the same as a term called speech plus . This is a
form of expression in which behavior is used by itself or in coordination with written or spoken

Honestly, I was struggling in watching the interpreter sign what she wants to express about

Body Scanners Essay
Current Security Use of Body Scanners
With the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the administration of George W. Bush introduced
reforms in the screening process. A major component of these reforms was the establishment of the
cabinet level Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the TSA. TSA is an agency in the
Department of Homeland Security and is responsible for screening all travelers and their luggage, as
well as the screening of all air and rail transportation in the United States. The resulting changes in
screening restricted potential carry on weapons, such as sharp objects, scissors, clippers, and so forth.
The TSA also used various methods of determining risk factors for the detainment and more extensive
search of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The flip side of the debate has been the potential cost of providing sufficient body scanners for all the
terminals and keeping the flow of travelers moving in a timely manner.
Body scanners were introduced in certain terminals starting in 2007 and 2008, with strict policies
identifying who would view the images and the assurance by officials that body images would be
erased from the system immediately after the traveler passed through. In December 2009, Nigerian
Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab attempted to ignite a bomb that was hidden in his underwear during a
flight from Amsterdam to Detroit. While Abdulmutallab failed, the incident once again raised the issue
of body scanning technology into the public debate.
In autumn 2010, the TSA implemented enhanced screening procedures that included full body scans
and pat downs, igniting significant media coverage and public outrage. Despite heated national
dialogue over the enhanced procedures, several polls conducted by news outlets in 2010 found that the
majority of those polled approved of the TSA using full body scanners. An ABC/Washington Post
poll, however, found that 50 percent of respondents felt enhanced pat downs went too far. In 2014
researchers from UC San Diego, University of Michigan, and Johns Hopkins University also
demonstrated various flaws in the scanning technology that would allow disguised or cleverly placed

At the national level, the FFVP program is usually administered by the Food and Nutrition Service of

responsibility of administering this program at the state level (Jeffers, 2003). In Texas, the program

determination of the success of the FFVP program would be a reduction in plate waste amounts and
increase in the consumption of vegetables and fruits.

There are economic factors and funding intervention strategies to address these issues. Each year the
state spends in excess of $337 million on obesity directly related diseases and conditions (Nevada

Analysis Of The Film C.r. Y Directed By Jean Marc Vallee
The film C.R.A.Z.Y, directed by Jean Marc Vallée is about a man named Zac, recounting his
adventure of searching for his identity. Laurianne and Gervais give birth to 5 distinct guys, but Zac is
particularly special. He supposedly has a gift where he can cure burns, and heal people, but little do
they know; his special gift is that he is gay. The film C.R.A.Z.Y uses diegetic elements, selecting
specific events, and a four part structure to display narrative.
In the exposition, we see that this family is very religious because they are shown going to midnight
mass. The second aspect we learn that will be very significant is that he was premature and was
dropped, so it would explain why his family thinks he has a gift and why he has a scar on his head. We
also learn that his desires are ignored based on stereotypes and gender norms. In the second section of
the film, we get a sense that his character has changed. He s much more rebellious shown by the scene
where he puts his music even louder, after his dad lowered it, and when his father puts his cigarette
out, he blew smoke right back into his face. He also starts smoking pot and expresses that he no longer
believes in his religion. Although he begins to reject the Catholic Church, he secretly wants help from
God. In one particular scene, he is lying in bed and he puts his hands together and whispers, Please...
Anything but that This part is particularly important to the narrative because it shows how desperate

Summary Of Martha C. Nussbaum s Anger And Forgiveness
Sometimes people can be angry or furious. However, when the time passes they do not even
remember their anger. Should they stay angry or should they let it go as Martha C. Nussbaum says in
the Anger and Forgiveness book? To answer this question, the notion of anger needs to be explored.
For instance, according to Nussbaum, in the Middle Realm , anger is the domain of life , and affects
the way we spend our lives (p.138). Nussbaum says that we mostly deal with people who we meet
temporarily; it can be at work, at the store or on the street, but we do it on a regular basis. Therefore,
as the author points out, we do not get into a deep relationship with these people in this realm, and this
is a short term situation. Also, Nussbaum says that she finds it easy to transition herself in a non anger
situation with people who she loves. On the other hand, she finds it harder to transition from this
feeling when dealing with irritating strangers (p. 139).
Furthermore, the author agrees with the Stoics that mixture of heterogeneous elements is not worth to
pay attention to. She gives some examples of the heterogeneous elements, which could be improper
termination of employment, negligent medical treatment, harassment on the job, theft, etc. (p.139).
Instead of being angry, Nussbaum suggests Transition (before) or Transition Anger (after). She also
indicates that there is no point in getting further embroiled, mentally and emotionally (p.141). Indeed,
this recommendation is essential for a business world where people have a tendency to get frustrated
fast. By applying Nussbaum s techniques of controlling the anger, businesses can not only improve the
working environment within their companies, but also prevent customers from being angry in various
situations.
A good example of possible applications of Nussbaum s anger techniques is demonstrated in the
article BA says most flights running; angry passengers face delays. People s anger and an inability of
the British Airways company to address the problem lead to negative customers experience and
damaging the company s reputation. In this case, the Middle Realm anger is described which is
usually not important. Even though people are angry, there is nothing

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this experiment was to determine if soft drinks manufactured by Coca Cola use
phosphoric acid in their product formula. An analysis of their product concentrations of HCl and
H3PO4 was performed using the potentiometric titration method, with a standardized 0.1002 M NaOH
solution. The molarities of HCl and H3PO4 were determined by plotting the titration data, the first
derivative, and the second derivative of this data. The results of our analysis of the three trials found
the molarities of HCl to be 0.1232 M, 0.1232 M, and 0.1230 M, with a mean of 0.1231 M and an
average deviation of 0.8 parts per thousand. We are 95% confident that for this set of data, the true
mean lies within the range of 0.1228 and 0.1234 M. The molarities of H3PO4 were found to be 0.1709
M, 0.1706 M, and 0.1702 M, with a mean of 0.1706 M and an average deviation of 1 part per
thousand. We are 95% confident that for this set of data, the true mean lies within the range of 0.1698

Cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and AIDS are some of the most lethal diseases that people die from
every single day. These diseases can be passed on into the next generation of our children. Although,
this problem could be avoided by using the method of cloning. In addition, our best and bravest

Compare And Contrast Dogen And Ekakun

Final essay: Dogen and Hakuin Compare and Contrast There are multiple schools in Zen Buddhism as
well as multiple masters and teachers. Dogen Kigen, master of Soto Zen (1200 1253), as well as the
Japanese monk who brought Caodong school of Chan over from China to Japan and then greatly
modified it based on his own insights and criticism of Buddhism in Japan. Dogen lost his parents at a
young age and became ordained at thirteen, and then became student of Eisai s disciples, Myozen
(1184 1225). Another master was Hakuin Ekaku (1686 1769), Ordained at fourteen and given the
name Ekaku which means Wise Crane . Hakuin is known for revitalizing the koan practice of the
Rinzai School, which focused on observing the key word . Dogen founded the Soto school of
Buddhism in Japan, which stressed silent sitting and a gradual path to enlightenment. Hakuin was a
major critic of Soto Zen and believed that it was a fixation on emptiness rather than a path to
enlightenment. However, Hakuin did agree with Soto s accessibility to the common people since it
was more popular among lower class people. Both Hakuin and Dogen were important leaders and
though their approaches were vastly different each made a lasting impact on Zen Buddhism in Japan.
The foundation of Soto Zen began during Dogens voyage to china when he started to question the
effectiveness of the Koan practice. Dogen was the first in Zen to focus on intensive

Sophocles Antigone
The Two Protagonists of Antigone
In the classic model of dramatic structure, two characters move the action of the play from
introduction to climax to resolution with their conflict. One of these characters is the protagonist; the
other is the antagonist. The protagonist is generally regarded as the good guy, and the antagonist is the
bad guy. In Sophocles play Antigone, the lines between protagonist and antagonist are blurred. In the
Greek tradition, the title character is the protagonist, but in this play, the supposed antagonist Creon
also displays characteristics of the protagonist.
Webster s Dictionary defines protagonist as one who takes the leading part in a drama; hence, one who
takes lead in some great scene, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the way his actions work and feed the conflict throughout also make Creon fit our definition
of a protagonist. After Antigone s capture, the play centers on Creon. He boasts of his decision to the
town leaders (the Chorus in this play), and he argues with Tiresias about his actions and leadership
ability. Tiresias endless enforcement of truth forces Creon to face his mistakes, even though his pride
is hurt: It s a dreadful thing to yield . . . but resist now? / Lay my pride bare to the blows of ruin? /
That s dreadful too. (page 661).
Not only does Creon possess too much pride, but he is also stubborn, not unlike Antigone. However,
Creon s pride and stubbornness are related. He does not want to admit to himself or others that he
could be wrong, so he makes the same mistakes over again. He could have pardoned Antigone, or
reversed his edict after his point was made clear, but no, he does not. Perhaps he is afraid of admitting
that he is capable of making mistakes in light of his less than perfect predecessors (Laius, Oedipus,
Eteocles, and Polynices, none of whom make very good role models for aspiring kings). Maybe he has
been king long enough that he has developed a large ego and does not recognize his own mortality.
Either way, his pride and stubbornness reflect in nearly every action that Creon makes in Antigone.
Creon undergoes a full realization in the play, which is

Pedagogy Of The Oppressed By Paulo Freire
Paulo Freire s book Pedagogy of the Oppressed analyzes the issues of different styles and techniques
of teaching. Whether it be at school, home, or by a parent education can be pushed upon you in
different forms. These manners of education can treat people as objects; use forms of paternalism due
to authority over someone, and restrict people from having freedom and responsibilities. One of the
mechanisms Freire talks about is banking education:
Education thus becomes an act of depositing, in which the students are the depositories and the teacher
is the depositor. Instead of communicating, the teacher issues communiqués and makes deposits,
which the students patiently receive, memorize and repeat. This is the banking concept of education,
in which the scope of action allowed to the students extends only as far as receiving, filing, and
storing the deposits.
Ever since I can remember I always noticed I would be in classes in school that portrayed banking
education in some form. In this essay, I will talk about my college history class and how it functions,
the perspective I have about my teacher, and how I m able to pass the class. Last fall semester is when
I started college here at Del Mar. I had only enrolled in three classes, and being how I was only a

but at the same time it wasn t a big deal at all, since he would casually ask customers if he had a knife
in his back. Apparently the mad man drove a forklift, and that was a big deal. That meant he got more
that double the payment compared to the other workers at the factory. He was also said to have forklift
swagger, with a certain way of moving. In that way, our main character is not like the others at all, he
wants to get out and he doesn t think he is being treated right. The story ends with him leaving the
factory and never coming back. There are definitely some symbols in the text. For example when he
mentions the sandwiches. The narrator is mad about his job, his co workers and the managers. He
compares it to the tomatoes in the sandwich, stinging his soul with its acid. Thereafter he dreams of a
place where he could stand and silently watch the tomatoes passing him, by with a note of a agony at
the conveyer belt. I have chosen the text nice work, by David Lodge and the picture Relativity, which
is painted by M.C. Escher. I find the picture and the text very comparable, because they re both very
monotone and gray. The picture illustrates the described factory. There is no individualism, no
happiness or passion shown. The short story expresses the same feeling, it is very monotone. In the

What Is Miley Cyrus Future Prediction
Miley Cyrus Future Prediction
If one were to take a look at an image of Miley Cyrus ten years ago, one in the present, and one in the
future they would not believe she is the same person. On March 26th, 2006, the live action comedy
show, Hannah Montana was launched on Disney Channel with Miley Cyrus playing her first major
role as the show s protagonist, conveniently named Hannah Montana. The television show showcased
a 13 year old teenager s everyday misadventures as living a double life as Miley Stewart and Hannah
Montana. The show instantly became a fan favorite, permanently portraying Miley Cyrus public
image as Hannah Montana. At that point, Miley was young, she was innocent, and further down the
road had blossomed to the independent, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After reading There s More to Life than Being Happy by Esfahani Smith, publisher under the Atlantic,
it could determine Cyrus emotional path. It can be inferred when reading Esfahani Smith s article that
Cyrus will most likely be very happy in the future and also lead a meaningful life. Smith distinguishes
happy people as people that tend to think that life is easy, they are in good physical health, and they
are able to buy the things they need and want In Miley Cyrus case she is a millionaire that can afford
all the Molley and cannabis she wants, as well as mansions and luxurious cars. Smith also defines
finding meaning as people leading meaningful lives get a lot of joy from others To Ms. Cyrus even if
she lost her fame tomorrow, she will find a way to bring joy to others even without entertaining them.
For instance, she has found a foundation to donate to LGBTQ rights, education, women s rights, social
justice, homeless youth, mental health, the environment, and animal welfare. If Miley were to lose her
fan tomorrow she has enough to support herself for the rest of her life as well as support

Toy Of Maine Green Toys Inc.
Toys R Us is a distinct competitor, though it does not compete in the same niche business, so it will be
considered an indirect competitor.
How will your products or services compare with the competition? Our products will be of very high
quality, locally made, and will have minimal environmental impact. Our competitors will not offer as
in depth a commitment to the green aspect of the toys.
In the final column, estimate the importance of each competitive factor to the customer. 1 = critical; 5
= not very important.

The Little Green Toy Box is competitively at an advantage by having its own store front, being
entirely dedicated to environmentally friendliness, and by having a visually appealing store front and
product design. It is at a disadvantage since it does not have an established reputation, is low in
expertise, and does not have as broad a business presence as its competitors.
Niche
Now that you have systematically analyzed your industry, your product, your customers, and the
competition, you should have a clear picture of where your company fits into the world. In one short
paragraph, define your niche, your unique corner of the market. Our corner of the market is the
environmentally conscious families and individuals who are seeking to expand their consciousness to
all aspects of life. We are locally produced and locally sold which also appeals to consumers who wish
to support the local economy. Our company falls below the big box stores in the hierarchy of the toy
business, but our green products set us apart from the generic competitors, and our local storefront
provides an accessibility not present in our online competitors.

  • 2. The Necessity Defense in the Killing of an Innocent Third... 1 Introduction The general defence of necessity has long been disputed. The South African and English legal systems are intrinsically opposite, and neither seem to escape controversy. These systems differ greatly on the legal subject of defence of necessity in the context of killing an innocent third party. The legal aspects of this defence, as well as accompanying problems which may arise, will be briefly discussed in terms of the South African as well as the English law. Utilitarianism and Kantianism will be used to analyse specific case law that made an enormous contribution to the legal dispute regarding necessity. 2 Necessity Necessity can be described as the voluntary conscious decision to break the law in order for a lesser ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to this Constitution, every person has the right to life and the right to equality. With a successful defence of necessity for the murder of an innocent person, these basic human rights would be infringed upon, which is legally unacceptable. Thus, a case should fail when using the defence of necessity for the murder of an innocent person. 2 2 English Law The United Kingdom has no constitution, which is why English law can only be found in the common law of the United Kingdom. This common law does not regard the general defence of necessity as a justification, but rather as an excuse to a crime which is then classified as duress, and it does not recognise the defence of necessity to any murder. The English law, to my opinion, is still quite unclear as to whether or not the ground of justification of necessity, as to the unlawfulness of a crime, is accepted or not. The reason for this is because quite a clear position had been taken up by the courts in the United Kingdom regarding this matter, until the recent case of the conjoined twins, which led to a dispute in the English law as to the ground of justification of necessity. 2 3 Case Law Seen as S v Goliath, R v Dudley and Stephens, and the conjoined twins cases have all set out the legal precedent to which two countries are to be governed by, they will be briefly discussed by using the analogy of Utilitarianism as well as Kantianism. The basic premise of utilitarianism is that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have changed my mind on soccer. I used to think that soccer was a boring sport to watch and play, and that it was mostly for girls. Now I find the sport different and therefore, I enjoy it and have learned to appreciate it. I was born in Mexico and my entire family are Mexican, which someone could think that soccer is our passion. Not necessarily, because other sports are enjoyed as well in Mexico. Where we come from, baseball is the most popular sport in those parts. Growing up in the United States and loving sports, soccer was obviously not one of my favorite sports. In fact, I disliked ... The burning of fossil fuels is the world s leading source of emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), which is one of the greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming. In residential construction, Canada has become aware of the effects of fossil fuels and is adopting a new way of building with an environmentally friendly green approach using Geothermal Energy Pump Systems. In residential homes, Geothermal Energy Pumps are systems that can achieve exact functions of standard convection systems without the harmful effects of fossil fuels. Our cities are growing and so is our rate of power consumption. Luckily for us there is an alternative to traditional HVAC systems. Geothermal technology uses a piping system (commonly called a loop ) filled with water installed underground that absorbs the heat from solar energy stored just below the earth s surface [2]. Geothermal HVAC systems differentiate themselves from common systems as they do not burn fossil fuel to generate heat [3]. They do, however, use minimal electricity to power the pump to circulate water through the piping system, but compared to current HVAC methods three to five units of energy are supplied as heat for every one unit used to power the system. During the summer the system essentially functions in the opposite manner by absorbing the heat in your home and transferring it back into the earth [4]. In this report the reader can learn about the current practices and the alternatives for residential HVAC systems, the technology limitations of this method and its trends, and a conclusion. • 5. What Was The Rationale At Common Law For Making Burglary... Short Response Q.1. What was the rationale at common law for making burglary and arson felonies? Both burglary and arson have the word dwelling in their statutes. Under common law, a dwelling referred to a person s home (and under common law, the crime of burglary had to materialize after dark, when people are more likely to be home). These types of crimes are aggravated when there are people present in the dwelling at the time of the crime. Thus, the rationale at common law for both of these crimes to be treated as felonies was to protect an innocent person at home. Q.2. What is the difference between the crimes of robbery and extortion? Both robbery and extortion are theft crimes that use force or threats of force/coercion. Both of the crimes also require the specific intent to permanently deprive the owner of property. However, they differ in a number of ways. In the case of robbery, there must be immediate threat of harm whereas extortion requires threat of future harm. Therefore, in robberies, the compliance must also be immediate and in the case of extortion, victims may need to comply at some point in the future. In robberies, physical harm is used to deprive the victim of property. In extortion, the harm may be physical, economic, or it can be the exposure of a secret. Because physical harm is the preferred method of choice in robberies, the crime occurs in person rather than through mail or over the phone like in the case of extortion. Q.4. List and ... Smith had originally prototyped the sculpture in 1962, when he made a six inch cardboard model, but he did not have Die fabricated until 1968. The final format of Die is a six foot cube of quarter inch hot rolled steel that is held together by internal steel bracing. To have it created, Smith worked with the Industrial Welding Company in Newark, New Jersey, which owes to its rusty, industrial external appearance. As one of first steel sculptures, it went on to inspire much of his later work. History has proven that conflicts within the borders mostly involve people with very little difference between them. Most of civil wars in nations often start as ethnicity feuds and end up to full scale wars. In the chapter, The Narcissism of Minor Differences, Blok argues that it is often the small differences that lead up to prolonged struggles (p115, 2000). There have been several Islamic militant groups in Somalia with the aim of controlling the country. Al Shabaab is the current of those groups with a claim to make Somali an Islamic state, while at the same time getting rid of the inter clan wrangles. However, the group s actions were more of polarizing the communities along religious lines. The Narcissism of minor difference applies here as well; Somalia s population is overwhelmingly Muslim. However, Al shabaab has an extremist view of Islam and intends to make everyone follow the same ideas, those who do not, they believe deserve to die. Solomon argues that Al Shabaab s form of Islam contradicts with most of Somali s cultural beliefs, hence creating a major rift between the militants and the population (p352, 2014). The group use the worst kind of violence against people they believe do not follow the right Islam; from beheading and lynching alleged offenders to bombing local mosques, restaurants, and learning institutions (various). Again, all of their victims inside Somalia are Muslim Somalis who worship the same God as them, but according to them, they worship Him the wrong way. • 13. California, California The Fresh Water Introduction The Earth is a huge planet this is covered by 70 percent water. Astonishingly, from the 70 percent of the worlds water the human population can only use 1 percent because the rest of it is salt water, frozen, or in some way unattainable (Santa Clara Valley Water District, 2016). Humans have found many different ways to obtain this 1 percent of fresh water they need, but the techniques vary depending on location. In San Jose, California the fresh water is obtained through 3 major sources: groundwater, imported surface water, and local mountain surface water. These 3 sources contribute different amounts of water to the San Jose community but their contribution can vary due to factors such as weather and global warming. Imported surface water composes about 50 percent of San Jose s water supply, while ground water composes roughly 40 percent, and local mountain surface water composes approximately 10 percent (Santa Jose Water Company, 2016). Groundwater Groundwater is water that seeps through the ground and gets stored underground. The supply of groundwater is always changing because it is constantly used and replenished. The groundwater supply replenishes and grows due to rain and snow melt and can decrease due to things like droughts and heavy usage. There are so many steps and products to use but not everyone knows what to use or how to apply it. You can find many videos online of girls doing their makeup, but today I will explain a step by step process of how to apply it and what tools you should use. The very first step you should do is wash your face. This step should be done every time before doing makeup. Before you ever do your makeup you should have a clean canvas before you start applying products to your face. If you have dry, flaky patches on your skin, you could exfoliate. Most exfoliating scrubs have small rough microbeads in them. As you rub the scrub onto your face in circular motions, it will remove the dry patches. By doing this, it will help to make your foundation go on smoother. After you wash your face, you will want to apply a moisturizer, another extremely important step. The moisturizer will nourish all of the dry patches that the exfoliator could not remove. Moisturizers are made for every skin type. For example, there are moisturizers for oily skin, dry skin, combo skin, and nighttime and daytime. You should pick a moisturizer that is suitable for your skin type. You only need to apply a dime size amount to your entire face. If you apply too much, the excess moisturizer will sit on top of your skin and not sink in. You will want to let the moisturizer ... This is because in 65% of patients, ALS begins with weakness in the arms, legs, and body, therefore this results in the loss of capability to walk (Gordon 2011, A.D.A.M. 2012). Most patients live for approximately three to five years after symptom onset and usually die when the muscles in the chest stop working, which causes their heart and lungs to stop functioning as well (Gordon PH 2011, A.D.A.M. 2012). This is caused by muscles weakening until atrophy and fasciculations occur, leading to the brain being unable to control voluntary movement (NINDS). Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is classified as a motor neuron disease (NINDS). The nervous system is made up of neurons that take in information through our senses and then processes it to the rest of the body(IQWig 2012). After this, motor neurons send a signal from the nerve cell in the brain, to the brain stem, down the spinal cord, and cause a reaction in the muscular system (NINDS 2014). During WWII, Denmark was occupied by Nazi Germany in 1940. During this time, while the Nazis tried to round up Danish Jews to send them to concentration camps, there was considerable opposition to the action. In his article, One Country Saved Its Jews. Were They Just Better People?, Michael Ignatieff maintains that When, in October 1943, the Gestapo came to round up the 7,500 Jews of Copenhagen, the Danish police did not help them to smash down the doors. In the same way, the Nazis in turn left their government untouched as Ignatieff states in the text, The Germans, for their part, put up with this frigid relationship: they needed Danish food, and Danish cooperation freed up German military resources for battle on the Eastern Front, and the Nazis wanted to be liked. They wanted their cooperative relationship with Denmark to serve as a model for a future European community under Hitler s domination. There are many reasons for the importance of landmark cases and the studying of such cases. Some of these reasons are to study how the judicial branch works, try to understand how decisions made in the judicial branch affects laws and everyday life, and predict how current issues and cases will be affected by past decisions (The Judicial Learning Center, 2012). There are many examples of Supreme Court cases that are considered to be a landmark, but one example is Texas vs. Johnson. Outside of the 1984 Republican National Convention in Dallas, Texas, many people protested President Ronald Reagan s policies. Among the protestors was one man named Gregory Lee Johnson. This man was so upset by the policies of the President that he burned an American flag in protest. By doing this, a statute in Texas was violated. This statute prevented the desecration of an American flag if it could possibly anger other people amongst the protest. Johnson was arrested and charged with this violation. He was later tried in court and convicted, but he made an appeal stating that by burning the flag he was expressing his rights of symbolic speech which are protected by the first amendment (uscourts.gov). The flip side of the debate has been the potential cost of providing sufficient body scanners for all the terminals and keeping the flow of travelers moving in a timely manner. Body scanners were introduced in certain terminals starting in 2007 and 2008, with strict policies identifying who would view the images and the assurance by officials that body images would be erased from the system immediately after the traveler passed through. In December 2009, Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab attempted to ignite a bomb that was hidden in his underwear during a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit. While Abdulmutallab failed, the incident once again raised the issue of body scanning technology into the public debate. In autumn 2010, the TSA implemented enhanced screening procedures that included full body scans and pat downs, igniting significant media coverage and public outrage. Despite heated national dialogue over the enhanced procedures, several polls conducted by news outlets in 2010 found that the majority of those polled approved of the TSA using full body scanners. An ABC/Washington Post poll, however, found that 50 percent of respondents felt enhanced pat downs went too far. He supposedly has a gift where he can cure burns, and heal people, but little do they know; his special gift is that he is gay. The film C.R.A.Z.Y uses diegetic elements, selecting specific events, and a four part structure to display narrative. In the exposition, we see that this family is very religious because they are shown going to midnight mass. The second aspect we learn that will be very significant is that he was premature and was dropped, so it would explain why his family thinks he has a gift and why he has a scar on his head. We also learn that his desires are ignored based on stereotypes and gender norms. In the second section of the film, we get a sense that his character has changed. He s much more rebellious shown by the scene where he puts his music even louder, after his dad lowered it, and when his father puts his cigarette out, he blew smoke right back into his face. He also starts smoking pot and expresses that he no longer believes in his religion. Although he begins to reject the Catholic Church, he secretly wants help from God. • 33. Summary Of Martha C. Nussbaum s Anger And Forgiveness Sometimes people can be angry or furious. However, when the time passes they do not even remember their anger. Should they stay angry or should they let it go as Martha C. Nussbaum says in the Anger and Forgiveness book? To answer this question, the notion of anger needs to be explored. For instance, according to Nussbaum, in the Middle Realm , anger is the domain of life , and affects the way we spend our lives (p.138). Nussbaum says that we mostly deal with people who we meet temporarily; it can be at work, at the store or on the street, but we do it on a regular basis. Therefore, as the author points out, we do not get into a deep relationship with these people in this realm, and this is a short term situation. Also, Nussbaum says that she finds it easy to transition herself in a non anger situation with people who she loves. On the other hand, she finds it harder to transition from this feeling when dealing with irritating strangers (p. 139). Furthermore, the author agrees with the Stoics that mixture of heterogeneous elements is not worth to pay attention to. She gives some examples of the heterogeneous elements, which could be improper termination of employment, negligent medical treatment, harassment on the job, theft, etc. (p.139). Instead of being angry, Nussbaum suggests Transition (before) or Transition Anger (after). She also indicates that there is no point in getting further embroiled, mentally and emotionally (p.141). Indeed, this recommendation is essential for a business world where people have a tendency to get frustrated fast. By applying Nussbaum s techniques of controlling the anger, businesses can not only improve the working environment within their companies, but also prevent customers from being angry in various situations. A good example of possible applications of Nussbaum s anger techniques is demonstrated in the article BA says most flights running; angry passengers face delays. People s anger and an inability of the British Airways company to address the problem lead to negative customers experience and damaging the company s reputation. In this case, the Middle Realm anger is described which is usually not important. Even though people are angry, there is nothing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dogen lost his parents at a young age and became ordained at thirteen, and then became student of Eisai s disciples, Myozen (1184 1225). Hakuin is known for revitalizing the koan practice of the Rinzai School, which focused on observing the key word . Dogen founded the Soto school of Buddhism in Japan, which stressed silent sitting and a gradual path to enlightenment. Hakuin was a major critic of Soto Zen and believed that it was a fixation on emptiness rather than a path to enlightenment. However, Hakuin did agree with Soto s accessibility to the common people since it was more popular among lower class people. Tiresias endless enforcement of truth forces Creon to face his mistakes, even though his pride is hurt: It s a dreadful thing to yield . . . but resist now? / Lay my pride bare to the blows of ruin? / That s dreadful too. He does not want to admit to himself or others that he could be wrong, so he makes the same mistakes over again. He could have pardoned Antigone, or reversed his edict after his point was made clear, but no, he does not. Perhaps he is afraid of admitting that he is capable of making mistakes in light of his less than perfect predecessors (Laius, Oedipus, Eteocles, and Polynices, none of whom make very good role models for aspiring kings). Whether it be at school, home, or by a parent education can be pushed upon you in different forms. These manners of education can treat people as objects; use forms of paternalism due to authority over someone, and restrict people from having freedom and responsibilities. One of the mechanisms Freire talks about is banking education: Education thus becomes an act of depositing, in which the students are the depositories and the teacher is the depositor. Instead of communicating, the teacher issues communiqués and makes deposits, which the students patiently receive, memorize and repeat. This is the banking concept of education, in which the scope of action allowed to the students extends only as far as receiving, filing, and storing the deposits. Ever since I can remember I always noticed I would be in classes in school that portrayed banking education in some form. In this essay, I will talk about my college history class and how it functions, the perspective I have about my teacher, and how I m able to pass the class.
