Roller Coaster Narrative
Bright lights, screaming girls, and loud music were all around. I knew this would be the night of my
life and I have never been any more excited for anything else in the world. This was the night that I
have been waiting for ever since I could remember. The sound of my alarm clock awakened me on
Christmas morning. My very first thought when I woke up was presents. I knew my parents told me
there was no way of getting Justin Bieber tickets for Christmas but I still had some hope. I sprung out
of bed and ran up the stairs so fast that when I was upstairs I was out of breath. Once my dad got out
of bed, my mom and little brother,Reegan, were all ready to open our gifts. Before I opened any gifts

It looks way to scary and I m not doing it. AdventureLand had made a new roller coaster that opened a
week before we came called The Monster. This roller coaster, you go upside down multiple times, go
super high, and has many twists and turns. What I think that made the ride so scary is that it had no
bars that went over your shoulder so it looked like you could fall out of your seat easily. How can you
go to an amusement park and not ride the best ride there? I knew I could talk her into riding it at
sometime but I just ignored her comment about not riding the coaster. Michaela and I quickly agreed
on what rides to ride and went on from rides to rides. Before entering the line for a smaller roller
coaster called The Tornado, Michaela was hesitant even ride this rollercoaster but with a little bit of
convincing, she jumped in line with me. After five minutes of waiting in line, Michaela and I got to
the front and saw the old rigidity cart pull up in front of us. We got in our seat and sat down. We go up
the first hill screaming loudly. Then there was a quick turn and I felt an odd substance hit my face. I
thought to myself that this wasn t a water ride. I look over to see Michaela and all I saw was her
laughing. She exclaimed how she was sorry because she drooled on me. I felt so disgusted yet I had to
laugh. Later on that day, after riding many rides we did end up riding The Monster and it was so fun
but when it was 5 o clock we headed back to the hotel room to get ready for the

H M Fashion Strategy
This research paper will provide an analysis and evaluation of the current and perspective success for
the H M clothing company. This paper will identify how the company s marketing strategy has
allowed them to successfully progress and remain prevalent. I will also explain why it is impossible
for other clothing companies to succeed in the competitive clothing industry, and how a company s
influence on its consumers can affect the present and forthcoming currency earned.
When opening a company it is almost a guarantee that owners are concerned about long time success.
Many companies are forced out of business by their competition in various ways. Numerous
companies do not succeed because of their bad business strategies, business locations, or they were
unprepared for the challenges that came about. There are many challenges all company s face while
striving to be successful. Whether the company is trying to be the best in clothing or technology, the
product is different but the critical challenges are the same.
A company, such as H M for example, faces many challenges because selling clothes is a very
competitive field. One of the challenges H M face is the competition of other clothing stores, such as
Zara s and Forever21 these clothing stores sell very similar products at different prices. H M is known
for their originality, convenience and great prices but they are not the only company providing these
benefits. Forever21 provides their audience with

Theme Of Justice In Joe s Family
In THE STORY, Joe s family faces a number of obstacles trying to ensure justice is carried out for the
assault on Joe s mother. Legal disputes over the land, issues with jurisdiction and Geraldine s
reluctance to speak initially all hinder their efforts to seek legal punishment for Linden Lark and his
actions. Joe himself has another obstacle in particular that prevents him personally from pursuing
justice; his age. In the latter half of the novel, the conflict between legal justice and the justice of
traditional Ojibwe culture is contrasted. Joe s age, along with the jurisdiction issues and other
obstacles, is one more factor that prevents him and his family from obtaining legal justice; thus Joe is
forced to rely on more traditional methods of his tribe for exacting it on behalf of his mother.
As a young adult, Joe does not have the experience or knowledge to effectively pursue his mother s
assaulter. He seeks it regardless, through extralegal means and more often than not ... Show more

When the western system of law let Lark walk free, citizens of the reservation took a somewhat
vigilantism approach to dealing with Lark; QUOTE ABOUT LARK S ASSAULT. Joe takes this a step

KILL HIS MOTHER. Though Joe did not consciously parallel Nanapush s story, avenging his mother
does regardless echo the traditional Ojibwe justice system. Circumstances forcing Joe to extralegal
methods of obtaining justice for his mother s assault underscores the fact that his family was not going
to get justice in any legal way. Later, when Joe pieces together where Mayla s body is buried and he
realizes he obstructed the one way Lark might be legally held accountable does not change the fact
that Lark would not have been held accountable specifically for the assault of Joe s mother. Only

The Roles Of Emma s Emma And Her Father
Emma and her father
Mr. Woodhouse is a sickly person whose main concern is his ill health a nervous man, easily
depressed (5). While we are told that Emma dearly loved her father, he also was no companion for her.
He could not meet her in conversation, rational or playful (24). Mr. Woodhouse demonstrates
excessive hypochondria and a constant demand for attention that are provided unflaggingly by Emma;
In a striking reversal, she functions as his parent, caring for his needs and guiding him with her
superior understanding and emotional strength. Though much older than his daughter, Mr. Woodhouse
cannot provide her with the figure of authority, wisdom, and strength. Instead, he looks to her for
leadership and comfort. Consequently, Emma infantilizes the old man, she forever shields her father
against critique and thereby sustains his dependence. In return, Mr. Woodhouse heralds Emma as ...

Mr. Knightley says to Mrs. Weston: ever since she was twelve, Emma has been mistress of the house
and of you all. In her mother she lost the only person able to cope with her. She inherits her mother s
talents, and must have been under subjection to her (48). Emma then is linked to her mother as similar
in temperament and talent and, presumably, in her capacity to control Mr. Woodhouse. With the
mother gone, a force of subjection, and with very little evidence to suggest this absence as in any way
traumatic to Emma. Emma s intellect and sagaciousness allow her control of the estate, free of any
rivals from within the family, and now embodies the location of phallic signification. This authority
extends beyond the household, however, because Hartfield itself is already acknowledged by the
community as the first in consequence (25). Emma s situation allows for the Oedipal dynamic to be
symbolically gratified while simultaneously giving her preeminent status in the community.

The Spratly Islands Dispute
Swaine s article makes the point to ask whether man made features should be allowed territorial
integrity, but doesn t answer the question. His solutions to the Spratly Islands dispute all assume that
China will be able to claim EEZs and territorial waters around Mischief Reef and its man made
features. However, what these features are, exactly, can t be overlooked when examining this issue.
China began by dredging and dumping sand on a small portion of the slightly submerged reefs and,
over the past few years, have transformed it into a full blown and developed island. The sand has been
cemented and paved in order to ensure sturdiness so that vehicles could be transported and buildings
erected. The Chinese are seeking to reinforce their claims to the Spratly Islands, rocky outcrops in the
South China Sea, by dredging and building installations there such as lighthouses and a runway.
Having structures on a sandbar doesn t necessarily give it territorial integrity, however. Though China
claims ownership of this part of the Spratly Islands, it is not the only claimant. Vietnam, among others,
may even have a better claim, as its coast is closer in nautical miles. If simply dumping sand and
paving afforded territorial rights to a country, then the United States could easily build man made
islands in every sea and harbor in the world in order to have a monopoly on naval activity. The
ridiculousness of this example proves why China will not be able to gain EEZs around the

Essay about Love in Henry James Turn of the Screw
To Insanity in Pursuit of Love.
The Turn of the Screw by Henry James is usually read as a ghost story in which the central character,
the governess, tries to save the souls of two children possessed by evil. However, the short story can
be also analyzed from many different perspectives, as we come upon a number of hints that lead to
various understanding of certain scenes. One of the possible interpretations is the psychoanalytical
one, in which we interpret the events either from the point of view of the governess or from the
perspective of the two children. I will concentrate on the problem of the governess who, restricted by
her own problems and moral dilemmas, projects her fears on her pupils and in this way harms the
children. What ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is clearly stated by Douglas when he says about the offer: The moral of which was of course the
seduction exercised by the splendid young man. She succumbed to it (James 13). As the love is not
fulfilled, with no prospects for the future relationship with the master, the young woman starts to be
overpowered by her romantic and sexual needs. The matter gets worse when her imagination starts to
play tricks and then she projects a figure of a man during one of the walks. Later on, as her state of
mind is far from normal and she becomes obsessed with love, the male ghost is paired with his female
lover. Only in this unconscious way can the governess express her needs, which the cruel Victorian
society, with its restrictive code of sexual morality, as Jane Nardin calls it, rejected and made her
quench (qtd. in Parkinson, ch. 6).
Being the daughter of a poor parson, the governess has probably never tasted real love. Her whole
knowledge about the romantic relationships is based on novels like Pamela where a middle class girl
finds an upper class man, Nardin points out (qtd. in Parkinson, ch. 6). On meeting her employer, she
immediately recalls the scheme of one of the novels and imagines the future with the man. Also when
walking alone the governess dreams about meeting the man of her life. When her psychological health
deteriorates she can no longer distinguish the imagined from the real. The ghosts start to haunt her, she
thinks she can hear their voices and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Federation
3.Federation Model III /Representative Model
There would be no individual membership to the federation, but any qualified person can take
membership with any one of the national level psychology associations. One can hold membership
with more than one association, without having any implication on the voting power. The federation
will be formed by the representatives of the national level psychology associations, which forms the
EC. Voting power within the EC will be decided depending on the strength of each constituent
national association. A similar model exists with the psychological societies of the Czech Republic
(CR). Instead of Federation, the Czech Republic have The Union of Psychologists Associations (UPA
CR) which came into being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, during the first term, the President will be from Association A, the president elect from
Association B, Secretary General from Association C and the treasurer from Association D. Similarly,
the representation to different international psychology associations can also planned in rotation.
Advantages: 1.There is no need to invoke any change in the existing bylaws of the associations. 2. The
bylaw of the federation can be framed by the representatives of each of the associations with the
approval of the general body of the constitutent associations. 3. Internationally, the number of
representatives to the forums would go up and Indian Psychologists as a group would yield more
power. 4. Since there will be more than one representative at the international forums, the transition
will be smoother..
Disadvantages are as follows: 1.Each association may not take initiative to come together to form a
strong association. 2. Change in the organogram of the associations in the functioning of the
federation may not be appreciated by the office bearers of the associations. 3. The rotation of
representation to international union or societies can be a bone of

Art Therapy Papers
As you know, depression is like a cloud hanging over everything you do. It alters who you are, by
effecting how you interact with and treat others. It clouds the joys of your life and makes you see your
future as drudgery. Thankfully, there is hope when it comes to treating depression, beyond medication
and counseling (although these are both vital tools of recovery.) This additional therapy is known as
art therapy.
What is Art Therapy?
According to the American Art Therapy Association, art therapy, an expressive therapy, is using art as
a therapeutic treatment for various illnesses and challenges, all within a professional setting. Art
therapy has been shown as a way to both detect and treat depression. It can be in group settings or
individualized. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By creating art you have an actual product you can see and learn through.
What Art Therapy Isn t:
Remember, this isn t an art class. A therapist s focus is never to critique your expressive art or your
technique. They don t care if what you draw or paint is pretty to look at. They only want to understand
what your art means to you. They will help you interpret the meaning behind your art. As a result, you
shouldn t be afraid to enjoy art therapy if you are not artistic. Painting or drawing a masterpiece is not
what art therapy is about. It s about healing through expressive means.
Why it Works So Well:
Art provides a pleasure factor not often associated with basic counseling. It doesn t just encourage
communication alone. It provides an outlet for expression. An outlet that is less intimidating for many
people than using word. To better understand the concept, consider the graffiti that is present in many
cities. These drawings or tags are drawn as a way for the individual to make their mark. In the same
way, art therapy allows those who are suffering from depression to express what is going on inside.

Essay On Police Officer
What is a police officer.A police officer is someone who enforces the law and makes sure people
follow it.For my essay I decide that for my research project I wanted to choose something in law
enforcement, because I am really interseted in being a police officer because it looks like a cool and
interesting job..I was not sure if I wanted to be a police officer or a detective or something else but
when i looked into it more I decided that it was the right thing for me.I thought that it was the right
thing for me because since i was a little kid i was always interested in law enforcement.when i was
younger i would always say that i wanted to be a firefighter or a police or S.W.A.T officer, also when i
was younger i like to watch a lot of TV shows about law enforcement like COPS,DEA,CSI,and many
others. One other reason that i think the career of a police officer would be good for me is because i
like to be active and i like to be out doors alot and i think that i would not feel comfortable in an office
job because i would get really bored and i think that i would be stressed out all the time. One other
reason why i think this job is good for me is because i like to help people that are in need and that
need help and because i get a good feeling after i help someone. One of the main reasons that i would
like to have this job is because i do not have to study or go to school alot.I say this because to become
apolice officer you only need a high school diploma. This is one of the many benefits of this job
because i do not like to study.Although I only need a high school diploma to become a police officer I

Inequality In I Am Malala
In the book, I Am Malala, Malala discusses how women face inequality in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Malala was named after Malalai of Maiwand, who was a folk hero who lead her people to victory.
Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, was also a prominent role model for women, but unfortunately was
assassinated by a suicide attack. Both woman had a great impact on the rights of women in the
Pakistan/Afghanistan region. However, I believe that Malala promoted the equality of women better
than Benazir. Women worldwide suffer verbal, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse, along with their
sequelae, such as traumatic injuries, sexually transmitted diseases, chronic pain, eating and sleeping
disorders, other psychiatric conditions, and alcohol and drug abuse. To combat the issue of Woman s
Rights there have been organizations who work to stand against the tribal thinking and the traditional
way of gender roles in developing countries. One person known to stand against inequality, to become
the first female Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto. At the age of 16 she traveled to the United States to
study at Harvard University s Radcliffe College, where she received a degree in government in 1973.
Bhutto went on to study political science, economics, and philosophy at Oxford University, and
became the first foreign woman to be elected president of the Oxford Union debating team.

The Role Of National Character And The Political Institutions
During the 1800s, the concept of national character was a subject of development and discussion,
especially in France. Many philosophers had an agreement in general that each nation was/had unique
characteristics, but there are many opinions as to what makes a national character. There was a lot of
focus on the spiritual and physical characteristics and their role in shaping the national traits. These
philosophers had a different perspective on the relationship between the national character and the
political institutions. The concept of national character expanded in its significance in regards to its
importance and complexity from a political standpoint. At the beginning of the 1800s, the national
character idea was viewed as a historical fact and towards the end, it was viewed as a current force of
politics that required some fostering to reforms. This led this idea to moving from the realm of
speculation to a more theoretical realm with a practical applicability. This paper is going to analyzing
the concept of national character from the implications on France in the 1800s and its perspective of
the French philosophers.
A national character is defined as an expression that gives a description of all forms of collective self
perception, conduct as well as collective self perception that are shared by the various individuals
inhabiting a modern nation state1. It demonstrates the issues of psychosocial and cultural homogeneity

Alex Rodriguez Broke Into Spring Camp With The Seattle...
In 1994, an 18 year old kid from Miami named Alex Rodriguez broke into spring camp with the
Seattle Mariners in an attempt to make the team. After almost immediately stepping into a Major
League baseball field he became a household name. Within two years, he was an All Star. Within five,
a regular 40 homer player. By the turn of the century, many were already putting him into the Hall of
Fame discussion.
On August 12, 2016, Rodriguez played what will be his final game as a New York Yankee after an
incredible 12 years in New York. Considering the 41 year old s lack of playing time and declining
production after a resurgent effort in 2015, this may very well be the end of the A Rod era entirely.
And for A Rod, he was prepared to leave the game he fell in love with as a child.
I do want to be remembered as someone who was madly in love with the game of baseball, someone
who loves it at every level, Rodriguez said. Someone who loves to learn it, play it, teach it, coach it.
And also, I m going to be hopefully remembered as someone who tripped and fell a lot, but someone
that kept getting up.
Rodriguez has led a very controversial 22 year baseball career. His lowest moment being when he was
infamously suspended for the entire 2014 season following the Biogenesis investigation. The longest
suspension ever served in Major League Baseball history.
But his story did not end there.

Black Dynamite
Black Dynamite Movie and its Camp aspects
The Movie Black Dynamite, released in 2009, is an action comedy film and a parody of the 1970 s

The Role Of Women And Their Participation During The Civil...
Women s role has evolved through time and it is clear that women did history, but they are not always
portrayed in the history books. That is why it is important to analyze the roles of women and their
participation during the Civil War. This was an important event that marked a change the role of
women in society. There are narratives and records of how women experienced, and contributed
during the Civil War. The women from the North, South, elite and poorer social status, they all had
different perspectives, rights, and roles. These women were involved in many aspects of the economy,
policy, and social services. There is one in particular, Clara Barton, who did an amazing work during
the war and then she was inspired to found the American Red Cross. During the Civil War, women did
not wait around for their loves ones to come back from the battlefield. Instead they played many roles
that made them important part of the war effort. Many women secretly enlisted in the army there are
records of women cross dressing in order to be accepted and treated as one of the male soldiers , some
served as spies, smugglers, abolitionists, civil rights advocates, promoter of women s suffrage, and
participated in war relief efforts for both the North and the South, while others became nurses and
aides. There were four categories for soldering women: Daughters (or Mothers) of the Regiment,

The Murder And Serial Killers
Okay, so when I was 18 years old, I worked at a department store as an overnight stock boy . I
practically slept during the day and woke up to go to work at night. However, right before heading out
to work, I remember watching late night reruns of the shows Forensic Files and Cold Case Files.
I don t know why but they kept me startled and entertained until I left for work. Since then for some
odd reason I ve found murderers and serial killers very enthralling. Particularly, from the very start, I
became more interested in the motives that caused those high profile murders, rather than the
murderers themselves.
From watching so much Forensic files, I ve seen all the successful acts of murder and the fails from
some of the world s most notorious killers. So, instead of keeping all this interesting knowledge
secluded, I ve decided to splurge out 13 great tips for killing someone and not getting caught. Ready?

to clean up blood stains, will not leave any traces of blood or hemoglobin cells. This means, when the
investigators whip out the luminol to probe the scene for blood traces, your ass will be covered.

Mandatory Arrests for Domestic Violence Do More Harm than Good
Domestic violence, or intimate partner violence, is a common problem. As a result, the criminal justice
adapted to demands, especially from feminists, who bemoaned the poor response of police, and in
turn, the justice system by instituting mandatory arrests. However, mandatory arrests have proven that
just like protection or restraining orders, they are not effective in deterring domestic violence (Davis,
2008). Similarly, the arrests do not have a substantial effect on recidivism and create undue procedural
complications for the criminal system (Zelcer, 2014). On the contrary, proponents of the approach,
argue that it has a deterrent effect on the perpetrators and that it can even protect offer immediate
protection for the victims (Clark, 2010). Nonetheless, using statistical evidence and arguments from
scholarly sources, this position paper will expose the inefficiencies and constitutional inconsistencies
that make mandatory arrests harmful for the batterer, victim, and the criminal justice system.

The problem of domestic violence poses a danger to all the members the family unit. In addition,
women and men are both ?equally likely to initiate and engage in partner aggression? (Stop Abusive

The Event I Decided At Attend
The event I chose to attend would be the S.M.A.R.T (Students of Color Mentoring, Aiding, Retaining,

classes reflecting on privilege and diversity I wanted to take this chance and learn more about the
subject beyond class. This was a little outside of my comfort zone because S.M.A.R.T only consist of
people of color, and even though I have a good deal of Native American in me I know that I am seen
as a White Caucasian. Before attending this event I can easily say I was a bit timid to attend knowing
that this would be a completely new experience for me. There is always a hush tone when dealing with
diversity and racial matters, and I was afraid that I would be seen as someone who does not care about
today s society and its racial discrimination. There is always that line of being color blind like we
spoke about in class and the line of almost teaching about diversity as if we do face it the same even
though we have not gone through these hard ships. I did not want to ignore their hardships and yet, I
did not want to come off as if I understand their hardships. When I first walked into the event it was
actually like a breath of fresh air. There were people laughing and screaming and running. I wanted to
join immediately. The fame was simple each person would receive a name tag at the point of entry and

Hunter S. Tompson and Gonzo Journalism Essay
Hunter S. Tompson and Gonzo Journalism In the late sixties a young journalist and free lance novelist
named Hunter S. Thompson (HST) emerged with a new, crazed and exaggerated brand of reporting. It
was sooner or later referred to as Gonzo . HST s own definition of gonzo has varied over the years, but
he still maintains that a good gonzo journalist needs the talent of a master journalist, the eye of an
artist/photographer and the heavy balls of an actor and that gonzo is a style of reporting based on
William Faulkner s idea that the best fiction is far more true than any kind of journalism (Carroll, page
192). Gonzo journalism has also been referred to as outlaw journalism, new journalism, alternative
journalism, literary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Steadman s work will be found on the title page to this essay). As the deadline for the article
approached, and with the article still incomplete, HST resorted to ripping out pages of his notebook
and sending them to the editors. What resulted was the beginning of gonzo journalism. Many see
gonzo journalism to be a variation of a theme, which began with new journalism in the 60 s, led
primarily by author Tom Wolfe. (The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test, etc.) New Journalism was said to
have broken all the rules of traditional journalism. The old style journalists were supposed to take an
objective point of view in their articles. The new journalists were far more subjective, getting
personally involved in the stories they were reporting. New journalism really isn t new at all.
Objectivity has been the great myth of journalism. As hard as media sources try to be objective, they
can never truly achieve it. Everything from space limitations (a journalist must decide what is and
what is not important enough to fit into a column) to illustrations (this gives readers a non objective
picture in their head about the issue) infringe on objectivity. New journalism and gonzo journalism
alike pay no regard to the objectivity laws of journalism and instead focus their works very little on
the facts but on the facts , as they

Interpreting Theatre Concepts
Theatre can be described as an art form to show expression of opinion, empathize a phenomenon, or
tell a story through dialogue, song and body language. With multiple aspects contributing to this art,
theatre is truly multidimensional. Throughout the semester, I have watched productions to analyze and
evaluate aspects in the productions. Within helpful resources and my own techniques, I achieved the
course objectives in a successful way. Because of this course, I have truly learned a multitude of
aspects that can further enhance my education. Through evaluating and analyzing, I achieved the goal
of corresponding theatre concepts. These concepts including the aspects of dialogue within the
characters through observing and analyzing. For example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, I wrote down all the due dates and assignment titles into my planner when the semester
started. This aspect was helpful to understand which assignments needed to be completed as well as
when they were due. I also completed my assignments before the due date. I used time management to
complete assignments on time. For example, I would complete my discussion posts a day before they
were due or I would reflect on my postings with turning in the portfolio early. Because I turned
assignments in on time or even early, I would evaluate my own work through comprehending the
productions in a manageable amount of time. I also created a strategy to help me be successful. I
would read the articles and the videos associated with the production before watching the show. This
would help me understand the production better by the little details of the theme and character
evaluations. I also would write notes for each production to help prepare for the discussion postings
and quizzes. This helped me remember details of the show and for reviewing purposes before the quiz.
As a result, all of these aspects helped me be successful throughout the semester in this

This literary submission will take on a systematic, convergent approach in focusing on five separate
articles regarding green consumerism. The five peer reviewed articles which have been selected for
this paper have been placed in the appendix of this submission in the order in which they appear in the
bibliography.
A key point which is continuously brought up within each article is that environmental consumerism is
becoming more and more prevalent in today s society (Mazar and Zhong, 2009). Although there ...

The article also identifies the green consumer as often very skeptical of green advertising in general,
which results in their own adoptive means of conducting alternative research so that they are well
informed prior to making a purchase (Shrum et. Al, 1995). As well, Auger s article provided
supporting evidence to this point by restating that active information seekers were often more apt to
adopt socially ethical products (Auger et al, 2003).
Several types of research methods were used to reach these conclusions, including the use of primary
data collected through ethical disposition surveys and choice experiment surveys (Auger et al, 2003).
An extensive amount of secondary research was also pulled together, with some data sets being
analyzed to determine the conclusive results (Shrum et. Al, 1995). However, it is noted within each
paper that there are gaps which exist within each article s research design. For example, some surveys
were only targeted at a certain demographics, leading to a relatively homogeneous study groups
(Haytko and Matulich, 2007), while other data sets did not reflect the general population, as some
secondary data either over represented or underrepresented certain populations, resulting in an
incomprehensive analysis of data (Shrum et. Al, 1995).
As a result, gaps can be observed in both the research questions conducted within these articles, as
well as the

Case Study On Hummus
5 Things To Consider Before Purchasing Hummus
Hummus is a celebrated health food and for good reason! When prepared correctly, the satisfying
spread (or meal) contains fiber, minerals, protein, calcium, carbohydrates, and other benefits.
Traditional recipes call for soaked, dry chickpeas, tahini, garlic, lemon juice, and a little bit of olive
oil. Nothing beats a bowl of fresh homemade hummus, but we don t always have the time to prepare
the crowd pleasing dish in advance. While there are plenty of healthy alternatives like Hummustir not
all store bought brands deliver on the heart healthy promise. Before spending your cash on the dip, be
sure to look for these five things that prove not all hummus is created equal.

Processed foods contain extra amounts of sodium so the package stay fresh for a greater amount of
time, but if you re watching your sodium levels this could present an issue. Purchase recipes that have
less sodium (around 30 50 mg per serving) and forgo options that will cause your body to retain water
and make you feel bloated. Not all hummus is created equally, so spend some extra time looking into
exactly how much added sodium went into the mix. Your body will thank you.
Hidden Calories
Hummus can be relatively low calorie, like this 45 calorie option, or it can be full of unhealthy oils
that increase the calorie count tremendously. Stick to items that exclude added ingredients and focus
on picking products that have a shorter ingredients list, and use only healthy fats like tahini or olive oil
and fresh ingredients. There are dozens of hummus brands that boast about their healthy product, but
don t deliver on their promise. Do your research and know ahead of time which brands are the most
reliable and free of hidden calories, additives, and unnecessary ingredients.

ABSTRACT
Invasive procedures including chorionic villus sampling and amniocentesis in sex linked diseases
increase the risk of fetal loss. Therefore, Noninvasive fetal gender determination using cell free fetal
DNA (cffDNA) in maternal plasma may be promising. Fifty pregnant women with gestational age
between sixth to tenth weeks were included. cffDNA were extracted from maternal plasma and
amplified by real time PCR and conventional PCR for detection of SRY, DYS14 and DAZ genes as
specific genetic markers for male bearing pregnancies. In general, sensitivity and specificity of real
time PCR was better than conventional PCR. However, sensitivity of DYS14 gene and specificity of
SRY gene by real time PCR was equal to those of conventional PCR. Sensitivity of DYS14 gene was
the highest and sensitivity of SRY gene was the lowest. However, combination of the three Y
chromosome sequences in the diagnosis increased the test accuracy, which is suitable for clinical
application.

Significance Of The Centennial International Exhibition Of...
One hundred years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Centennial International
Exhibition of Industry was created in order to celebrate America s past and lend an eye to its hoped for
future of prosperity. Attended by the President of the United States and in the presence of members of
Congress, the Supreme Court, the Cabinet, many other national, state and municipal officers over
150,000 people and even the Emperor and Empress of Brazil the fair commenced. Although not
considered financially successful for its investors, the Centennial Exhibition that took place in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the year 1876 was a ground breaking event that showcased the
incredible advancement in culture and industry experienced by the United States immediately after the
Civil War. The significance of the Centennial to the American economy, relations with European
powers and recovery from the Civil War cannot be overlooked. During the late 1840s and 1850s
America had been completely unable to compete with foreign nation s industrial prowess. By 1876
however, foreign investors were excited by the prospects of wealth presented by this new burgeoning
American industrial capacity. Held from May 10 to November 10, 1876 the Exhibition took place in
Fairmount Park along the Schuylkill River about two miles from the center of Philadelphia and was
attended by about 10 million visitors or 20% of the population of the United States at that time. In

Native American Colonies Effects
How do you think the Native Americans were affected as colonies expanded into different parts of the
nowadays known United States? The Native Americans were very much affected as colonies started to
expand into the U.S. Many of the natives were tortured, killed, imprisoned, and much more. This
essay will provide many unique and different times in history when Native Americans were being
affected by expanding colonies. Let s start off early with Christopher Columbus One of the first effects
felt by Native Americans happened in the late 1400s when Christopher Columbus and his soldiers
sailed to the Bahama Islands where him and his crew met the Arawak people. They were very
generous people, willing to trade anything they owned to the settlers. Upon first meeting the Arawak
people Columbus thought how he could use them to his advantage: They would make fine servants...
With fifty men we could subjugate them and make them do whatever we want (Zinn 1). With this in
mind, he brought few prisoners back to Spain with him, claiming that there was gold and slaves on the
island, the King and Queen granted him over 1,200 men and seventeen ships to sail back. This time
Columbus couldn t find gold, but brought back 500 captives, although, 200 of them died on the
voyage. After showing the King and Queen, he was sent back again to find the gold and more slaves.
Columbus being worried about finding gold he said Indians who did not give gold to the Spaniards

Workplace Diversity Of The Workplace
Job s face many struggles and challenges each and every day. Workplace diversity is something which
is being talked about the most here lately. Out breaks of minimum wage, sexualities, gender, and even
your skin color affects what diversity a business would want. Within the business, the professional
level is set pretty high due to the superior designers making us able to dress well fashioned. When
people step into a business they do not want someone that is going to walk in with a t shirt and gym
shorts, they would rather them be in dress pants and a nice dress shirt with fashionable shoe wear. It
does not have to be the top notch designer clothing, just something which doesn t scream I just woke
up from bed. The thing which is being most talked about these days is diversity. People who are
African American, white, Hispanic, gay, lesbian, bisexual, male, or even female could feel unwanted
at a higher end business. The more people are expanding their personalities and how much they want
to be shown that anyone could do anything just as much as the next man is outrageous. Workplace
diversity is becoming more intense as the years continue on and it is important to employers and
employees for a number of reasons, a few of them being that it would gain mutual respect with
everyone, conflict resolution would not be as much of an issue, and lastly the increased exposure due
to all of the workplace diversity. Kitts 2

We all have occasion to disagree with others either at work, in friendships or other social and
community interactions, but most of the time, we are able to resolve these disagreements, if not
completely amicably, at least to the extent that we can still associate with the person or persons
involved. Sadly, this is often not what happens in family disputes, which can quickly escalate into
open warfare with neither side wanting to give ground. If you or someone you know is in an untenable
position in a family dispute, the best option is to seek legal advice as quickly as possible. Many people

Langston Hughes Influence On Harlem Renaissance
The Harlem Renaissance, occurring from the end of World War I to the Great Depression, was a
colorful explosion of artistic, social, and cultural movements. Acting as the center of this explosion,
Harlem drew upon the talents of many great African American writers, poets, musicians, and artists.
One such great talent was Langston Hughes. Langston Hughes wrote many essays, short stories, and
poems with the common theme of celebrating and vocalizing African American culture. Hughes s
representation Harlem changed and varied throughout his life, and is reflected in his numerous poems.
For much of his early body of work, Hughes viewed Harlem as a glittering and vibrant neighborhood.
However, as the peak of the movement dropped off into the doldrums of the Great Depression,
Hughes work took on a more cynical view towards Harlem. Harlem came to represent the lost dreams
of its citizens. This change in Hughes s ideals can be traced back to both ... Show more content on

Harlem remained a small, yet fashionable settlement. The Harlem Railroad as well as the Civil War

caused by the large amount of poor immigrants, initiated the city of New York to annex the

The alternative hypothesis for the photosynthesis vs irradiance experiment was initially estimated to
be; Ulva grown under low light will have a steeper initial slope, and a lower Pmax than Ulva grown
under high light. The results have shown the initial slope (alpha) for the low light was 1.21 and for the
high light was 0.81, therefore low light did have a steeper slope that Ulva grown under low light. This
would be because in the low light Ulva, light is a more of a limiting factor than for the high light Ulva,
therefore the low light algae have adapted to harvest the light to suit their environment. This is done
by rapidly increasing or decreasing the pigment content in response to the light availability levels. By

The predicted hypothesis for this experiment was Ulva grown under low light will have a higher
chlorophyll a content and a higher chlorophyll b content than Ulva grown under high light. The reason
that this assumption was made is because Ulva that is growing in light limiting areas need to be able to
harvest as much light as possible while the light is available. Chlorophyll a is able to absorb light in
the red and blue spectrum while chlorophyll b is able to absorb light at intermediate wavelengths, as
discussed in the introduction. The T tests results that were calculated concluded to be: chlorophyll a
(0.17), chlorophyll b (0.47) and the total chlorophyll (0.37). Since all three p values are greater than
0.05, it can be concluded that there is no difference between the low and high light means, therefore
the predicted (alternate) hypothesis can be rejected. In theory the experiment should have resulted as
the alternative hypothesis predicted, but consequently errors have occurred that have prevents this
outcome. All the class data was combined, therefore nine replications were conducted which would
have eliminated human error, but unfortunately the Ulva used mightn t have been grown under the

The Importance Of My Best Friend
When I was younger I always wanted a friend, a best friend, a friend that I could confide in and would
always be there for me. Throughout the years I ve had several male and female friends but none scared
me as bad as my so called best friend my 12th grade year. In summer of 2007 I moved from Jackson

drive myself to school so I had to change schools. There was this girl named Nicole who lived down
the street from my grandmother. Me and her had grown close to throughout the years because on the
weekends or during the summertime I would spend a lot of time at my grandmothers. During the
summer Nicole and I would spend a lot of time hang out and she eventually got me a job at the local
dairy queen where she worked. By the time school started Nicole and I were inseparable, we were
always together. One night when we were at work a group of boys she knew came in. They kept
asking who I was but she told them I didn t want them and for them to stop looking at me. After they
left I asked her what did they say and she said that one of them liked me. After that she got very quit

weird reason Nicole wasn t as talkative as she normal was, she most sat back and listened to what I
said and nodded when she agreed with something. After we got tired of riding around I dropped her

apparently,, somebody had lied and told her I called her ugly and a hoe. I was confused because I

The Civil War As A Propagandist War
Hurst wrote about Civil War battles he was in and mentions the propaganda he witnessed over a four
year span. He remarked how outlandish the Southern newspapers were. It is unusual for a general,
who is amongst the chaos of the war, to notice something seemingly trivial. We are daily in receipt of
newspapers of Augusta and Savannah, and of the rural districts, which our foragers bring in; and we
laugh ourselves to tears sometimes at their last ditch literature. Half scared to death, and yet boastful
and defiant, they exhibit a rich combination of the coward and the braggart (Hurst, 2012, p. 159).
While being in the middle of the war, Hurst had a unique viewpoint that most other journalists missed,
ignored, or failed to write about. It is unusual to look at the Civil War as a propagandist war, yet
multiple current sources allude to that. Hurst s realization was quite telling; now historians whom
examined the press after the war are able to see the blatant transparency. To modern readers, the
acerbic tone of the era s reporting seems more akin to partisan propaganda than objective journalism
(Davis Robertson, 2009, p. 35). This further reiterates what Hurst picked up on and shows how both
the North and South journalists wrote in a propagandist tone. When the Civil War had just begun,
there was already a general dislike of the war in the North, which set the tone for said pieces of the
Union. Early in the conflict, negative press plagued Union generals, and Grant was

Protecting the environment, regulating the marketplace, and regulating individuals (Saunders and
Bromwich, 2016, p. 16 25). The government is concerned with the amount of damage caused by
human beings to earth. Water supplies are being damaged through agricultural by products, industries
are spewing chemicals in the air, water, and ground, and the disposal of waste in our lands and water
(Saunders and Bromwich, 2016, p. 16). The government regulates the destruction of earth by creating
ways to incentivize and protect the environment (Saunders and
Bromwich, 2016, p. 16).
In the marketplace, rich businesses cause white collar crimes. Fraud, scams, or misleading
advertisements are regulated by the government through criminal law (Saunders and
Bromwich, 2016, p. 20 21). Furthermore, the government is obligated to regulate the individuals
within society (Saunders and Bromwich, 2016, p. 23 25). Crime happens because of human greed and
corruption, and the government needs to set down rules to prevent and protect the law abiding
citizens. There will be three types of government regulations that will be addressed. The first method
of government regulation is taxes (Saunders and Bromwich, 2016, p. 27). By

Analysis Of Holden In Catcher In The Rye, By J. D. Salinger
A painful experience can overshadow all aspects of a persons life. In the bildungsroman, The Catcher
in the Rye, by J. D. Salinger, there are several examples of this. In this novel, Holden who is the
protagonist struggles with exemplifying his individuality and isolating himself, not having the ability
to control the way he acts and trying to protect others such as his little sister Phoebe from growing up
and attempting to preserve their innocence. By the end of the book, the tragic death of Holden
Caulfield s little brother Allie had impacted the way Holden acts in his everyday life. Ever since the
death of Holden s little brother Allie, Holden has begun to alienate himself from others and wants to
be different from everybody else. He expresses his want for individuality by wearing his red hunting
hat numerous times throughout the book. Usually, Holden would wear his hat with the peak towards
the back but [he] pulled the peak of [his] hunting hat around to the front all of a sudden, for a change

It drove me damn near crazy. I thought how old Phoebe and all the other little kids would see it, and
now they d wonder What the hell it meant, and then finally some dirty kid would tell them all
cockeyed, naturally what it meant, and how d they all think about it and maybe even worry about for a
couple days. Holden wants to guard the genuine qualities Phoebe still acquires considering she s still a
little girl. Basically, as long as Phoebe does not get unsheltered into the adult world where Holden
describes as being filled with phonies, she will remain pure and naïve, just as Allie did since he never
got the chance. This may be because he never got to spend as much time as he wanted with Allie and
he mourns Allies death constantly throughout the book. So to compensate the void he has in his heart,
he does not want to end up losing Phoebe as well to the world of adult

  • 2. Roller Coaster Narrative Bright lights, screaming girls, and loud music were all around. I knew this would be the night of my life and I have never been any more excited for anything else in the world. This was the night that I have been waiting for ever since I could remember. The sound of my alarm clock awakened me on Christmas morning. My very first thought when I woke up was presents. I knew my parents told me there was no way of getting Justin Bieber tickets for Christmas but I still had some hope. I sprung out of bed and ran up the stairs so fast that when I was upstairs I was out of breath. Once my dad got out of bed, my mom and little brother,Reegan, were all ready to open our gifts. Before I opened any gifts my mom looks at me in the eyes and tells me one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It looks way to scary and I m not doing it. AdventureLand had made a new roller coaster that opened a week before we came called The Monster. This roller coaster, you go upside down multiple times, go super high, and has many twists and turns. What I think that made the ride so scary is that it had no bars that went over your shoulder so it looked like you could fall out of your seat easily. How can you go to an amusement park and not ride the best ride there? I knew I could talk her into riding it at sometime but I just ignored her comment about not riding the coaster. Michaela and I quickly agreed on what rides to ride and went on from rides to rides. Before entering the line for a smaller roller coaster called The Tornado, Michaela was hesitant even ride this rollercoaster but with a little bit of convincing, she jumped in line with me. After five minutes of waiting in line, Michaela and I got to the front and saw the old rigidity cart pull up in front of us. We got in our seat and sat down. We go up the first hill screaming loudly. Then there was a quick turn and I felt an odd substance hit my face. I thought to myself that this wasn t a water ride. I look over to see Michaela and all I saw was her laughing. She exclaimed how she was sorry because she drooled on me. I felt so disgusted yet I had to laugh. Later on that day, after riding many rides we did end up riding The Monster and it was so fun but when it was 5 o clock we headed back to the hotel room to get ready for the ... This paper will identify how the company s marketing strategy has allowed them to successfully progress and remain prevalent. I will also explain why it is impossible for other clothing companies to succeed in the competitive clothing industry, and how a company s influence on its consumers can affect the present and forthcoming currency earned. When opening a company it is almost a guarantee that owners are concerned about long time success. Many companies are forced out of business by their competition in various ways. Numerous companies do not succeed because of their bad business strategies, business locations, or they were unprepared for the challenges that came about. There are many challenges all company s face while striving to be successful. Whether the company is trying to be the best in clothing or technology, the product is different but the critical challenges are the same. A company, such as H M for example, faces many challenges because selling clothes is a very competitive field. One of the challenges H M face is the competition of other clothing stores, such as Zara s and Forever21 these clothing stores sell very similar products at different prices. • 4. Theme Of Justice In Joe s Family In THE STORY, Joe s family faces a number of obstacles trying to ensure justice is carried out for the assault on Joe s mother. Legal disputes over the land, issues with jurisdiction and Geraldine s reluctance to speak initially all hinder their efforts to seek legal punishment for Linden Lark and his actions. Joe himself has another obstacle in particular that prevents him personally from pursuing justice; his age. In the latter half of the novel, the conflict between legal justice and the justice of traditional Ojibwe culture is contrasted. Joe s age, along with the jurisdiction issues and other obstacles, is one more factor that prevents him and his family from obtaining legal justice; thus Joe is forced to rely on more traditional methods of his tribe for exacting it on behalf of his mother. As a young adult, Joe does not have the experience or knowledge to effectively pursue his mother s assaulter. He seeks it regardless, through extralegal means and more often than not ... Though Joe did not consciously parallel Nanapush s story, avenging his mother does regardless echo the traditional Ojibwe justice system. While we are told that Emma dearly loved her father, he also was no companion for her. He could not meet her in conversation, rational or playful (24). Mr. Woodhouse demonstrates excessive hypochondria and a constant demand for attention that are provided unflaggingly by Emma; In a striking reversal, she functions as his parent, caring for his needs and guiding him with her superior understanding and emotional strength. Though much older than his daughter, Mr. Woodhouse cannot provide her with the figure of authority, wisdom, and strength. Instead, he looks to her for leadership and comfort. • 6. The Spratly Islands Dispute Swaine s article makes the point to ask whether man made features should be allowed territorial integrity, but doesn t answer the question. His solutions to the Spratly Islands dispute all assume that China will be able to claim EEZs and territorial waters around Mischief Reef and its man made features. However, what these features are, exactly, can t be overlooked when examining this issue. China began by dredging and dumping sand on a small portion of the slightly submerged reefs and, over the past few years, have transformed it into a full blown and developed island. The sand has been cemented and paved in order to ensure sturdiness so that vehicles could be transported and buildings erected. The Chinese are seeking to reinforce their claims to the Spratly Islands, rocky outcrops in the South China Sea, by dredging and building installations there such as lighthouses and a runway. Having structures on a sandbar doesn t necessarily give it territorial integrity, however. Though China claims ownership of this part of the Spratly Islands, it is not the only claimant. Vietnam, among others, may even have a better claim, as its coast is closer in nautical miles. If simply dumping sand and paving afforded territorial rights to a country, then the United States could easily build man made islands in every sea and harbor in the world in order to have a monopoly on naval activity. The ridiculousness of this example proves why China will not be able to gain EEZs around the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Turn of the Screw by Henry James is usually read as a ghost story in which the central character, the governess, tries to save the souls of two children possessed by evil. However, the short story can be also analyzed from many different perspectives, as we come upon a number of hints that lead to various understanding of certain scenes. One of the possible interpretations is the psychoanalytical one, in which we interpret the events either from the point of view of the governess or from the perspective of the two children. I will concentrate on the problem of the governess who, restricted by her own problems and moral dilemmas, projects her fears on her pupils and in this way harms the children. What ... She succumbed to it (James 13). As the love is not fulfilled, with no prospects for the future relationship with the master, the young woman starts to be overpowered by her romantic and sexual needs. The matter gets worse when her imagination starts to play tricks and then she projects a figure of a man during one of the walks. Later on, as her state of mind is far from normal and she becomes obsessed with love, the male ghost is paired with his female lover. Only in this unconscious way can the governess express her needs, which the cruel Victorian society, with its restrictive code of sexual morality, as Jane Nardin calls it, rejected and made her quench (qtd. in Parkinson, ch. 6). Being the daughter of a poor parson, the governess has probably never tasted real love. Her whole knowledge about the romantic relationships is based on novels like Pamela where a middle class girl finds an upper class man, Nardin points out (qtd. in Parkinson, ch. 6). On meeting her employer, she immediately recalls the scheme of one of the novels and imagines the future with the man. Also when walking alone the governess dreams about meeting the man of her life. • 10. Art Therapy Papers As you know, depression is like a cloud hanging over everything you do. It alters who you are, by effecting how you interact with and treat others. It clouds the joys of your life and makes you see your future as drudgery. Thankfully, there is hope when it comes to treating depression, beyond medication and counseling (although these are both vital tools of recovery.) This additional therapy is known as art therapy. What is Art Therapy? According to the American Art Therapy Association, art therapy, an expressive therapy, is using art as a therapeutic treatment for various illnesses and challenges, all within a professional setting. Art therapy has been shown as a way to both detect and treat depression. It can be in group settings or individualized. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By creating art you have an actual product you can see and learn through. What Art Therapy Isn t: Remember, this isn t an art class. A therapist s focus is never to critique your expressive art or your technique. They don t care if what you draw or paint is pretty to look at. They only want to understand what your art means to you. They will help you interpret the meaning behind your art. As a result, you shouldn t be afraid to enjoy art therapy if you are not artistic. Painting or drawing a masterpiece is not what art therapy is about. It s about healing through expressive means. Why it Works So Well: Art provides a pleasure factor not often associated with basic counseling. It doesn t just encourage communication alone. It provides an outlet for expression. An outlet that is less intimidating for many people than using word. To better understand the concept, consider the graffiti that is present in many cities. These drawings or tags are drawn as a way for the individual to make their mark. In the same way, art therapy allows those who are suffering from depression to express what is going on inside. Malala was named after Malalai of Maiwand, who was a folk hero who lead her people to victory. Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, was also a prominent role model for women, but unfortunately was assassinated by a suicide attack. Both woman had a great impact on the rights of women in the Pakistan/Afghanistan region. However, I believe that Malala promoted the equality of women better than Benazir. Women worldwide suffer verbal, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse, along with their sequelae, such as traumatic injuries, sexually transmitted diseases, chronic pain, eating and sleeping disorders, other psychiatric conditions, and alcohol and drug abuse. To combat the issue of Woman s Rights there have been organizations who work to stand against the tribal thinking and the traditional way of gender roles in developing countries. One person known to stand against inequality, to become the first female Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto. • 14. The Role Of National Character And The Political Institutions During the 1800s, the concept of national character was a subject of development and discussion, especially in France. Many philosophers had an agreement in general that each nation was/had unique characteristics, but there are many opinions as to what makes a national character. There was a lot of focus on the spiritual and physical characteristics and their role in shaping the national traits. These philosophers had a different perspective on the relationship between the national character and the political institutions. The concept of national character expanded in its significance in regards to its importance and complexity from a political standpoint. At the beginning of the 1800s, the national character idea was viewed as a historical fact and towards the end, it was viewed as a current force of politics that required some fostering to reforms. By the turn of the century, many were already putting him into the Hall of Fame discussion. On August 12, 2016, Rodriguez played what will be his final game as a New York Yankee after an incredible 12 years in New York. Considering the 41 year old s lack of playing time and declining production after a resurgent effort in 2015, this may very well be the end of the A Rod era entirely. And for A Rod, he was prepared to leave the game he fell in love with as a child. HST s own definition of gonzo has varied over the years, but he still maintains that a good gonzo journalist needs the talent of a master journalist, the eye of an artist/photographer and the heavy balls of an actor and that gonzo is a style of reporting based on William Faulkner s idea that the best fiction is far more true than any kind of journalism (Carroll, page 192). (The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test, etc.) New Journalism was said to have broken all the rules of traditional journalism. The old style journalists were supposed to take an objective point of view in their articles. The new journalists were far more subjective, getting personally involved in the stories they were reporting. New journalism really isn t new at all. Objectivity has been the great myth of journalism. As hard as media sources try to be objective, they can never truly achieve it. Everything from space limitations (a journalist must decide what is and what is not important enough to fit into a column) to illustrations (this gives readers a non objective picture in their head about the issue) infringe on objectivity. • 34. Langston Hughes Influence On Harlem Renaissance The Harlem Renaissance, occurring from the end of World War I to the Great Depression, was a colorful explosion of artistic, social, and cultural movements. Acting as the center of this explosion, Harlem drew upon the talents of many great African American writers, poets, musicians, and artists. One such great talent was Langston Hughes. Langston Hughes wrote many essays, short stories, and poems with the common theme of celebrating and vocalizing African American culture. Hughes s representation Harlem changed and varied throughout his life, and is reflected in his numerous poems. For much of his early body of work, Hughes viewed Harlem as a glittering and vibrant neighborhood. However, as the peak of the movement dropped off into the doldrums of the Great Depression, Hughes work took on a more cynical view towards Harlem. Harlem came to represent the lost dreams of its citizens. This change in Hughes s ideals can be traced back to both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The area is most recognized for the Harlem Renaissance taking place during the 1920 s. Yet, many events had to occur in order for the area to reach its cultural zenith. Originally, the Lenape Indians occupied Harlem until Franco Dutch settlers arrived. In 1664, the English then triumphed over the Dutch and they led New York into the Revolutionary War era. For much of the early 19th century, Harlem remained a small, yet fashionable settlement. The Harlem Railroad as well as the Civil War brought even more wealth and infrastructure to the area. However, the Panic of Harlem in 1937, caused by the large amount of poor immigrants, initiated the city of New York to annex the neighborhood. This annexation proved to be a good thing for Harlem, as an economic recovery triggered new life and the opportunity to examine a fascinating new culture (Osborne, Boghani). As Harlem was brought into the 20th century, the upcoming Harlem Renaissance began to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Photosynthesis Lab Report The alternative hypothesis for the photosynthesis vs irradiance experiment was initially estimated to be; Ulva grown under low light will have a steeper initial slope, and a lower Pmax than Ulva grown under high light. The results have shown the initial slope (alpha) for the low light was 1.21 and for the high light was 0.81, therefore low light did have a steeper slope that Ulva grown under low light. This would be because in the low light Ulva, light is a more of a limiting factor than for the high light Ulva, therefore the low light algae have adapted to harvest the light to suit their environment. This is done by rapidly increasing or decreasing the pigment content in response to the light availability levels. By doing this the low light ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The predicted hypothesis for this experiment was Ulva grown under low light will have a higher chlorophyll a content and a higher chlorophyll b content than Ulva grown under high light. The reason that this assumption was made is because Ulva that is growing in light limiting areas need to be able to harvest as much light as possible while the light is available. Chlorophyll a is able to absorb light in the red and blue spectrum while chlorophyll b is able to absorb light at intermediate wavelengths, as discussed in the introduction. The T tests results that were calculated concluded to be: chlorophyll a (0.17), chlorophyll b (0.47) and the total chlorophyll (0.37). Since all three p values are greater than 0.05, it can be concluded that there is no difference between the low and high light means, therefore the predicted (alternate) hypothesis can be rejected. In theory the experiment should have resulted as the alternative hypothesis predicted, but consequently errors have occurred that have prevents this outcome. All the class data was combined, therefore nine replications were conducted which would have eliminated human error, but unfortunately the Ulva used mightn t have been grown under the high and low light conditions for long enough for the chlorophyll to adapt to the ... • 37. The Importance Of My Best Friend When I was younger I always wanted a friend, a best friend, a friend that I could confide in and would always be there for me. Throughout the years I ve had several male and female friends but none scared me as bad as my so called best friend my 12th grade year. In summer of 2007 I moved from Jackson to Crockett county because my mother got a divorce. At the time, I didn t have my license so I could drive myself to school so I had to change schools. There was this girl named Nicole who lived down the street from my grandmother. Me and her had grown close to throughout the years because on the weekends or during the summertime I would spend a lot of time at my grandmothers. During the summer Nicole and I would spend a lot of time hang out and she eventually got me a job at the local dairy queen where she worked. By the time school started Nicole and I were inseparable, we were always together. One night when we were at work a group of boys she knew came in. They kept asking who I was but she told them I didn t want them and for them to stop looking at me. After they left I asked her what did they say and she said that one of them liked me. After that she got very quit and didn t say anything the rest of the night. When we got off we did I normal routine, we would ride around for a while and talked about the latest gossip, listen to music and then go home. But for some weird reason Nicole wasn t as talkative as she normal was, she most sat back and listened to what I said and nodded when she agreed with something. After we got tired of riding around I dropped her off and went home. The next day when I got to school one of my classmates said that a girl named Ashley was looking for me. I was like why? I knew who she was but I didn t talk to her. Well apparently,, somebody had lied and told her I called her ugly and a hoe. I was confused because I never said that about her. After Ashley and I talked she said she didn t have a problem with me and wonder what she did for me to call her that and I told her I did say anything. After that conversation, everything was fine between us and we moved on. The next week when I got to school there was as rumor about me being a gold digger and hoe going around the school, and ... • 38. Logistics Case Study Essay Case 1: Integrated Logistics for DEP/GARD Tom Lippet, sales representative for DuPont Engineering Polymers (DEP), felt uneasy as he drove to his appointment at GARD (Automotive Manufacturing (GARD). GARD is one of DEP s biggest customers. In the past, sales deals with GARD had proceeded smoothly. Oftentimes competitors were not even invited to bid on the GARD business. Mike O Leary, purchasing agent at GARD, claimed that was because no competitor could match DEP s product quality. But this contract negotiation was different. Several weeks before the contract renewal talks began, O Leary had announced his plan to retire in 6 months. GARD management quickly promoted Richard Binish as O Leary s successor. ... O Leary paused, then continued, But there s going to be a slight modification. Instead of the traditional 2 year contract we re only going to offer a 1 year deal. Nothing personal, just that management feels it s only fair to Richard that these last contracts I negotiate be limited to a year. That way he doesn t get locked into any deals that might make him look bad! O Leary roared with laughter at his last comment. It is certainly no reflection on DEP, Richard interjected. It simply gives me a chance to evaluate suppliers in the coming year without being locked into a long term contract. If my evaluation concurs with what Mr. O Leary has told me about DEP I see no reason that our successful relationship won t continue. Entirely understandable, replied Tom as his mind pondered the meaning of Binish s evaluation. I m confident you ll find DEP s service and product every bit as good as Mike has told you. Following the meeting O Leary invited Lippet to join him for a cup of coffee in GARD s lunchroom. Binish excused himself, saying he had other matters to attend to. As they enjoyed their coffee, O Leary sighed. You ll be seeing some changes coming, Tom. The best I could do was get you a year. I m not sure I understand. As far as I know GARD s ... • 39. The Civil War As A Propagandist War Hurst wrote about Civil War battles he was in and mentions the propaganda he witnessed over a four year span. He remarked how outlandish the Southern newspapers were. It is unusual for a general, who is amongst the chaos of the war, to notice something seemingly trivial. We are daily in receipt of newspapers of Augusta and Savannah, and of the rural districts, which our foragers bring in; and we laugh ourselves to tears sometimes at their last ditch literature. Half scared to death, and yet boastful and defiant, they exhibit a rich combination of the coward and the braggart (Hurst, 2012, p. 159). While being in the middle of the war, Hurst had a unique viewpoint that most other journalists missed, ignored, or failed to write about. It is unusual to look at the Civil War as a propagandist war, yet multiple current sources allude to that. Hurst s realization was quite telling; now historians whom examined the press after the war are able to see the blatant transparency. To modern readers, the acerbic tone of the era s reporting seems more akin to partisan propaganda than objective journalism (Davis Robertson, 2009, p. 35). This further reiterates what Hurst picked up on and shows how both the North and South journalists wrote in a propagandist tone. When the Civil War had just begun, there was already a general dislike of the war in the North, which set the tone for said pieces of the Union. Early in the conflict, negative press plagued Union generals, and Grant was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Importance Of Government Regulations Government regulation is important to society. A protection to both society and the citizens, criminal law allows for government intervention on the daily issues of the country (Saunders and Bromwich, 2016, p. 15). Regulations purposes listed here are just a few: Protecting the environment, regulating the marketplace, and regulating individuals (Saunders and Bromwich, 2016, p. 16 25). The government is concerned with the amount of damage caused by human beings to earth. Water supplies are being damaged through agricultural by products, industries are spewing chemicals in the air, water, and ground, and the disposal of waste in our lands and water (Saunders and Bromwich, 2016, p. 16). The government regulates the destruction of earth by creating ways to incentivize and protect the environment (Saunders and Bromwich, 2016, p. 16). In the marketplace, rich businesses cause white collar crimes. Fraud, scams, or misleading advertisements are regulated by the government through criminal law (Saunders and Bromwich, 2016, p. 20 21). Furthermore, the government is obligated to regulate the individuals within society (Saunders and Bromwich, 2016, p. 23 25). Crime happens because of human greed and corruption, and the government needs to set down rules to prevent and protect the law abiding citizens. There will be three types of government regulations that will be addressed. The first method of government regulation is taxes (Saunders and Bromwich, 2016, p. 27). By ... • 41. Analysis Of Holden In Catcher In The Rye, By J. D. Salinger A painful experience can overshadow all aspects of a persons life. In the bildungsroman, The Catcher in the Rye, by J. D. Salinger, there are several examples of this. In this novel, Holden who is the protagonist struggles with exemplifying his individuality and isolating himself, not having the ability to control the way he acts and trying to protect others such as his little sister Phoebe from growing up and attempting to preserve their innocence. By the end of the book, the tragic death of Holden Caulfield s little brother Allie had impacted the way Holden acts in his everyday life. Ever since the death of Holden s little brother Allie, Holden has begun to alienate himself from others and wants to be different from everybody else. He expresses his want for individuality by wearing his red hunting hat numerous times throughout the book. Holden wants to guard the genuine qualities Phoebe still acquires considering she s still a little girl. Basically, as long as Phoebe does not get unsheltered into the adult world where Holden describes as being filled with phonies, she will remain pure and naïve, just as Allie did since he never got the chance.
