No Russi The Modern Warfare Against Videogame Violence
No Russian: The Modern Warfare Against Videogame Violence
While the movie industry has powerful rating boards such as the Motion Picture Association of
America (MPAA) that regulate and censor an offensive product, the video game industry does not
have a respectable, official rating board. Instead, the videogame industry has the Entertainment
Software Rating Board (ESRB), which is a non profit, self regulatory body that was created in 1994
by the Entertainment Software Association. The ESRB esteems itself as the vanguard of providing
concise and objective information about the content in video games and apps so consumers,
especially parents, can make informed choices (ESRB). To provide guidance about age
appropriateness and content, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently, while the liberal nature of the ESRB as a voluntary board existing merely for
guidance has allowed for much artistic expression in videogames, the lack of clear, meaningful
regulations have enabled 21st century videogames to not only tread, but also violate an increasingly
thin line of moral boundaries concerning artistic expression.
As the elevator was rising, Russian ultranationalist terrorist leader Vladimir Makarov gazed intently
at his comrades and beckoned, Remember No Russian, initiating one of the most controversial
moments of videogame history. During the level Remember No Russian of the popular first person
shooter videogame Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the player assumes the role of a deep cover
CIA agent, Joseph Allen, who is attempting to gather Intel on a highly dangerous Russian
ultranationalist terrorist group. What started as a simple intel mission led to Agent Allen
participating in an armed plot to massacre all the people in a Russian airport. As the elevator doors
were opening, Vladimir Makarov reminds the player and the other gunmen not to speak any
Russian throughout the scene. As the terrorists relentlessly fired their machineguns, blood
splattered all over the airport as civilians fled in terror from the oncoming slaughter. Amidst this
bloodbath, some civilians displayed altruism as they attempted to drag the injured to safety;
however, those self less efforts were trampled on by more shots and more deaths. At the end of

Essay about Chlorinated Drinking Water is Necessary for...
With the aggregation of millions of people in large urban centers, there is an unprecedented amount
of human waste to be treated. In this treatment, pathogenic microbes (bacteria, viruses, protozoa,
and parasitic worms) must be removed or reduced to harmless levels. It is well known that in any
community, at any time, there are always small numbers of people who are either manifestly ill, in
some stage of illness but not demonstratively so, or healthy carriers of diseases. Together, these are
indications of a community s normal background of pathogenic microorganismsin which feces are
in the sewage. As a result, sewage is a great threat to human health, especially for those who come
in contact with water drawn from sewage contaminated... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The coarse screens consist of a bank of vertical bars set approximately 1 inch apart. Behind the
screens is a comminutor, which grinds the remaining solids to a size that should prevent damage to
the machinery that later are used to filter (Benarde).
The following step is secondary treatment, depending on the type of secondary treatment to be
given; the sewage will pass to either a bio filter or an activated sludge aeration tank. Both are based
on the stabilization or neutralization or organic waste by biological action. Although pathogenic
microorganisms are partially removed in the settling process and filtration and aeration
mechanically remove others, it is the process of chlorination that destroys the great majority of
organisms. In addition, chlorine leaves a residual in the water system can further disinfect, as water
is discharged into the watercourse.
Water supplies were first chlorinated at the turn of the century, and over the following two decades
chlorination was introduced for the disinfecting of drinking water in industrialized countries. In the
chlorination process, chlorine reacts mainly with natural water constituents to produce a complex
mixture of by products, including a wide variety of halogenated compounds,

Gay Liberation Movement Research Paper
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, All our progress is unfolding, like a vegetable bud. You have
first an instinct, then an opinion, then a knowledge as the plant has root, bud, and fruit. Trust the
instinct to the end, though you can render no reason (). This quote is a great representation of how
the Gay Liberation Movement swept across the nation spreading change everywhere it went. This
movement was a major milestone for the United States, this was the first step towards acceptance.
The movement did not pick up speed until the 1960 s but many years before that in 1920 s
individuals started to speak up about their rights in the gay and lesbian community. December 10,
1924 the first Society for Human Rights started up in Chicago (American Experience). The Society
for Human Rights published the first ever book in America that retained to gay and lesbian
relationships, Friendship and Freedom (American Experience). Even though their success was short

People do not understand things that are different from the way he or she were raised. A lot of
individuals during this time period had a certain belief about the definition of relationships. In the
1960 s at the start of the revolution homosexual acts were illegal in many states and same sex
couples were not allowed the right to marry or adopt and were discriminated greatly in the work
force. The Gay Liberation Movement was nicknamed the come out! movement (Dansky, S.F 2009).
It encouraged individuals to come out to their friends, family, and coworkers and tell them about
their homosexuality. This step of coming out to family, friends, and coworker was more than a
random process along the way. Coming out symbolized that the LGBT community was tired of the
discrimination that they faced on a daily basis. This was their first step in standing up for their

Williams Hero Model
Williams fits into the Aristotelian tragic hero model because he was born slightly elevated status
in the 1950 s Chicago society. Williams came from a pretty well known family; his mother being
former model Laurie McLaurin, and his father, Robert Fitzgerald Williams, a Ford Motor
Company executive. His great great grandfather was Mississippi Governor and Senator Anselm J.
McLaurin. Growing up in Chicago, Williams was lonesome and was often found playing with toys
by himself in his familys suburban mansion and not with any of the other kids his age. No one
had thought that Williams would become the brilliant comedian and actor that he became. Starting
his career performing at nightclubs in San Francisco and Los Angeles, Williams got his big break
in 1978 when he made a guest appearance on the tv show Happy Days as an alien named Mork....

Social Responsibility And Health Care
Nursing is more than just the physical care that is delivered; it is the protection and promotion of
health, the alleviation of suffering and the prevention and treatment of illness and injury
(AHPRA, 2015). Workplace citizenship and its three core elements of team work, social
responsibility and communication are essential in the nursing profession to develop skills and
give the best nursing care that is possible, because of how these elements work individually as
well as together. This essay will explore the negative and positive effects of each core element and
how it affects the care that is delivered by nurses.
Communication in nursing is an essential skill which allows nurses to capably deliver effective
and efficient care. Nurses being providers of health care must be able to recognise and prevent
barriers that may occur throughout the communication process as their job is to primarily interact
with patients in a culturally diverse workplace (Dwyer, 2012). Barriers such as health illiteracy
and poor communication play an important role on the care that is delivered by nurses and other
health care providers. In 2006 an adult literacy and life skills survey was conducted by the
Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), information collected from the survey had shown that 59%
of the Australian adult population displayed low health literacy skills. This high figure indicates
that nearly 6 out of 10 Australians over the age of eighteen may not be able to make appropriate

Fundamental Attribution Error Justifies How Individuals...
Fundamental Attribution Error justifies how individuals explain the actions of other
individuals. For example; Just the other day I saw one of my students ask a boy out as
boyfriend and girlfriend, but immediately got declined. I honestly was in shock when she did
that because she didn t know how to ask the proper way. I right away predicted that she had
intentions of him saying no to her because he wasn t looking for companionship. I think when
situations like this occur whether it be negative or positive we always tend to blame an
individuals characteristics and or personality rather than a specific issue. In the past, I have had
many people judging me and thinking the worst just because of how I present myself and mainly
how I have a strong attitude. I ve always had pride on everything I desired to do, and when

Policeman of the World Essay

Since gaining independence from the British in 1776, the United States foreign policy over the
years has gone from expansionist to isolationism to defending democracy. With the responsibility of
defending democratic rights for those who cannot defend themselves, the United States in my
opinion has taken on the role of policeman of the world. This role became more evident with the
use of U.S. military force in international incidents like U.S. intervention in the 2011 Libyan Civil
War to oust Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, and U.S. involvement in the 2011 Yemeni Civil War
protesting the leadership of Yemeni... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These businessmen saw the potential of further economic expansion by having access to overseas
markets and materials.
Three international incidents from the past five years that can be traced back to a foreign policy
created after the Civil War are Vietnam, Somalia, and Iraq. The Vietnam War began in 1955 and
was fought between communist North Vietnam and South Vietnam. The regime of North Vietnam
and its allies known as the Viet Cong were supported by the Russian government while South
Vietnam s primary ally was the United States.
In 1991 the President of Somalia Mohamed Siad Barre was overthrown and this led to the
beginning of a civil war. During this time various militias vied for control of the country. This
marked a period of intense violence and fighting which eventually required both United Nations
Peacekeeping forces and U.S. military involvement.
The Iraqi war of 2003 started after Iraq claimed to possess weapons of mass destruction. Under the
dictatorship of Saddam Hussein, some segments of the Iraqi population prospered while others
were threatened with violence, tortured, and killed. Under Saddam Hussein s regime, Iraq
developed chemical weapons that were used against its enemies and even its own people.

with Vietnam, Somalia, and Iraq were containing

Abnormal Psychology And Oppression
Looking at the course title, Abnormal Psychology, I expected to learn about mental illnesses,
including the dynamics of schizophrenia and the perpetual spiral of depression. On the first day
of class, I realized that what would be discussed would be completely different from what I had
expected. Instead of what I had previously thought about individuals being abnormal, I had to shift
my way of thinking to question whether it was the people who were abnormal, or whether the
society itself was the problem. Through insightful readings, discussions, and lectures I have
developed my own opinions on the impact of oppression; how to think about mental disorders; and
the system of the DSM, psychiatry, and insurance systems. There is no real way... Show more

Culture is defined as the parts of individual identity one participates in by choice or force in the
society in which they live. Religion, wealth, and health are all cultures in the American society.
Oppression comes in forms such as racism, sexism, homophobia, classism, heterosexism,
ableism, ageism, religious prosecution, and so on. Marilyn Frye (2000) explains in her essay
Oppression, that the root of the word oppression is the element press, presses are used to mold
or flatten things to reduce them by squeezing them, something pressed is caught between forces
and barriers which are so related to each other that they restrain, restrict, or prevent the thing s
mobility. (Frye, 2000, 11) Oppression immobilizes, it stems from the misunderstanding of
people of different cultures who see others as deviant from the norm in their culture or the
overall norm in society. For example, Joreen (1968) writes in the Bitch Manifesto that the most
prominent characteristic of all Bitches is that they rudely violate conceptions of proper sex role
behavior, the violation is different for each Bitch, but they all violate them (Joreen, 1968, 1).
People then generally feel uncomfortable around Bitches, considering them aberrations, which
leads the culture to create a dumping ground for all who they deplore as bitchy and call them
frustrated women. The same oppression that is subjected to bitches for deviating from the norm
is placed on all deviant groups within society, especially those who are stigmatized with the label
of having a mental health illness. And each mental health illness has its own form of oppression,
its own tag of stigma based on how severe (aka deviant) from the norm society and different
cultures consider it. For example, feeling godly is considered by the culture of religion to be
relatively normal or honorable, whereas by the rest of society

Matthew
The book of Matthew, one of the synoptic Gospels found in the New Testament, is distinctive in its
many features that are not found anywhere else in the Bible. While each synoptic Gospel
endeavoured to retell the life, messages, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, all three of them
had a different intention and audience in mind when writing their books. With this in mind, the
book of Matthew features a distinctive structure, an emphasis on the Kingdom of Heaven, and a
prominent focus on the the apostle Peter. The book of Matthew is also highlighted for the titles
which the author ascribes to Jesussuch as Immanuel, Son of David, and a New Moses. This essay

The distinctive purpose of this title in Matthew, however, is to indicate the final and apocalyptic
nature of Jesus in his judgement of the earth. Examples of Jesus referring to himself in this
context can be seen in Matthew 24:29 39, as Christ describes the end of days. Since the title, Son
of Man separates Jesus from the rest of God s children and positions Him as the final judge at the
end of time, Matthew is highlighting the authoritative aspect of Christ s character in giving Christ

Aurum Prep
Statement of Purpose
What is it that enables a trajectory changing education? At Building Excellent Schools, the answer
is rooted in sound and relentless execution on all the core fundamentals of running a school, i.e. the
academic program, school culture, and operations. At Educate78, the answer is rooted in designing
a school experience for students that is authentic to a particular community and also allows for
deeper learning. As a lead petitioner in the process of founding a school and a fellow of each of
these organizations I have been fortunate enough to observe and learn from both viewpoints. I have
come to an understanding that both are true and not mutually exclusive. My goal is to soundly
integrate the best aspects of both models ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we can execute on the mission of Aurum Prep, we will be a proof point for schools that help
students gain a deep understanding of themselves, their communities, and how to create a better
society. To build the foundation for this, we have already worked intently with families and
community members to understand what it is they want for their children upon graduation. After
hundreds of conversations, we know that the Oakland community seeks an interdisciplinary,
identity based curriculum to help students define who they are for themselves. In response, we
have crafted each year of our middle school to help our students to address fundamental questions
like who am I? Who are we (as a community)? Who am I becoming? We have developed the initial
framework and scope for the projects our students would complete, including engaging in a
genealogy/ancestry project and ultimately writing their own self determined autobiographies. I
believe it would be incredibly powerful to learn from High Tech High s project based learning
approach to we continue to design these learning experiences. Engaging in the Graduate School of
Education would help us to more fully flesh out critical aspects of our model like these.
The Graduate School of Education is committed to developing reflective practitioner leaders who
are working with colleagues and communities to create and sustain innovative, authentic, and
rigorous learning environments. I am a leader who is seeking to design a school that is
committed to ensuring equity for all children in East Oakland. While I have experience in the
school design process, being part of the GSE would ensure that our team is able to implement the
aspects of our school design that will ensure an equitable learning for all of our

Pericles Lion And The Sea-Onion Analysis
he Lion and the Sea Onion. Most self respecting artists would pick the former as the subject for a
monument and dismiss the latter. Yet, the man behind the moniker of Sea Onion cannot be so
easily dismissed. Pericles, the great Athenian statesman, was nicknamed
Schinocephalos
, or Sea Onion, by contemporary poets because of the large size of his head ( Pericles , History.com).
The Lion of Justice, in this case, refers to King Henry II of England ( King Henry II Biography ).
On the surface, both Henry II and Pericles appear to be equally great leaders who made lasting
impact on Western civilizations. Henry II established the English Common Law, which ensured
the same laws applied everywhere in the country (Hinds 60). He also laid the foundation for a
unified Britain by claiming Scotland and Ireland as parts of his realm (Morgan 143). Pericles
united the Greek city states into an empire known as the Delian League with Athens at its center (
Pericles , University Press Inc). Under his leadership and patronage, arts, literature, and philosophy
flourished, creating a cultural legacy that shaped all areas of Western thinking. Pericles also led the
restoration of the Acropolis and the ambitious construction of the Parthenon (Nardo 10). But
looking beyond their accomplishments, these two historical figures differ greatly in their
motivations and personal conducts. Arguably, two of the most essential traits of a good leader are
integrity and dedication to the common good. Using these qualities as a metric for comparison, we
will see that Henry II falls short while Pericles is clearly deserving of a monument in his honor
.
Both Henry II and Pericles were highly driven and ambitious. But while Henry was fueled by the
desire to glorify himself and his reign, Pericles wished to glorify Athens and its people. Henry II
wanted to reclaim lands that were previously under his grandfather s rule. He used force and
threats to claim lordship over Wales, Scotland, and Ireland (Hinds 12). In his mind, it was his
birthright. As a general and statesman, Pericles also helped reclaim land (noticeably Delphi) for
Athens ( Pericles , Bio). But rather than conquering neighboring poleis
, Pericles chose to focus on making Athens a city

Essay On Coptic Orthodoxy

to which they belong. As a member of the Christian faith, a micro culture that I strongly associate
myself with is Coptic Orthodoxy. There are many branches of Christianity all over the world today
and Coptic Orthodoxy is one that is constantly growing.
Coptic Orthodoxy is a branch of Christianity influenced by the teachings of Saint Mark in Egypt.
Many refer to this faith as being Coptic . It is not significantly unique to just the United States of
California. There are Coptic Orthodox Christians all over the world today and the numbers are

Wearing this cross shows that a person is bearing their cross just like Jesus did when He was being
crucified. A lot of Copts, especially those who were born in Egypt and came to the United
States, have a cross tattooed on the inside of their wrist. It is more common to find those who
were born in Egypt to have this small tattoo because they get it from a very young age, but it is
becoming more popular that youth who were born in the United States to get a bigger and more
dramatic form of the tattoo when they grow up. This also symbolizes a person bearing their
cross but in a different way than just wearing a necklace. I, personally, always wear my necklace
but have yet to get a tattoo on my wrist. Also, priests of the Coptic Orthodox faith are required to
wear a black tunic at all times and must grow a beard from the time that they become a priest.
Coptic Orthodox Christians follow a different calendar than those of the Catholic faith and other
religions. Our calendar is called the Gregorian calendar, and this means that some holidays fall on
different days. For example, we always celebrate Christmas on January 7th while Catholics
celebrate it on December 25th. It is still the same holiday being celebrated which is the birth of

South African Segregation And Isolation In South Africa
From 1948 to 1991 South Africa was going through a humanitarian crisis similar to what was

Jack Hunting Epilogue

Best shooter of his division. Top grades in every test. Off the charts in every single conceivable

Jack looked up from the file to the tired eyes of the Lieutenant across the table. Yes , he said. I ve

He noticed a stamp, right by the United States Army, one he hadn t noticed before.
He s very much alive, Jack. And he s going to play a decisive role in this war, is my guess.
Jack looked up at Lieutenant Winters. General Hunt is going to lead humanity to war?
The stamp on the file, by the US Army Stamp, it was a NASA stamp.
Winters shook his head. No, Jack. He s not going to lead humanity.

From the transparent glass wall on the front of the main battleship, General Hunt piped away white,
thick smoke from a Cuban cigar, watching the pale blue dot that was once his home slowly
growing bigger.
General, we need you in the control room, something about the plan of attack.
Hunt turned back to look at the translucent, thin figure by the door. He nodded slightly.
I ll be right there , he said, taking another puff of the cigar. He turned his gaze back to the glass
again, and the Chryssalid excused himself.

Constitutional Interpretation Essay
Constitutional Interpretation
In this essay I will try to explain and critique the two dominant methods of constitutional
interpretation. Which are originalism and non originalism. I will do this by taking help from How
to Read the Constitution by Christopher Wolfe, and different source s from Internet. I will start by
giving what Wolfe says originalism is, and then I will give some background to other ways to
interpret the constitution, and the founders and interpretation and I will finish up with my view on
originalism and non originalism and the critics to that.

Certain historical considerations are essential. The words are to be understood by those for whom
they were written, and therefore we must know what those understandings where. Christopher
Wolfe believes that the framers would tend to give preferences in such cases to the fair reading of
the document itself.
To summarize, the approach to constitutional interpretation employed in the early years of
American government: an interpreter is to begin with the words of the document in their ordinary
popular usage and understand the in light of their context. That context includes the words of the
provision of which it is a part, but also extends to the much broader context of the document as a
whole. The deeper assumption underlying these early rules of interpretation was a fairly traditional
realist epistemology: that the constitution has a fixed, determinate meaning intelligible to those
who give it a fair reading. Under modern assumption, a constitution is unavoidably made up or
created by interpreters, to a greater of lesser extent, as they go along. The framers of the
constitution, on the contrary, looked at the constitution as an intelligible fixed standard that made
possible a republican rule of law, rather than of men.

Taking a Look at Belgium Culture
Belgium Culture
Belgium is located north of France and south of the Netherlands. It covers an area of 11,780 sq.
miles. There are two major rivers in Belgium, the Schelde and Meuse, both start in France and flow
north towards Netherlands. The land in the southern Belgium, which is called Wallonia, is hillier
than the northern part of Belgium, a region called Flanders. Brussels is the capital city in Belgium,
located in the center of the country, and it has more than a million residents. Belgium is one of
the most urbanized and densely inhabited countries in the world with about 97 percent of the 10
million inhabitants living in cities in 2000. (1) Not many people live outside of the cities in
Belgium. There are many medium and smaller sized cities in Belgium. Many people in Belgium
live in a city and have their job in another.
There are three national languages in Belgium, Dutch, French, and German. The Dutch and French
languages are the most commonly spoken languages in the country. In Wallonia the language most
spoken there is French, and in Flanders the language spoken is Dutch, it is also called Flemish. This
has been a point of contention between the two regions. Many people to the north want only
Flemish, or Dutch, spoken throughout the country. Going back to the 1800 s French was the
official language spoken in Belgium. Since then there has been a Flemish revival in Belgium. This
is tied into their national identity. Since Belgium moved away from their French

The Last Critic That Will Be Evaluated
The last critic that will be evaluated is Margaret B. Wilkerson. During the time that her critical
study was composed, Margaret B. Wilkerson was the Director of the UC Berkeley Center for the
Study, Education, and Advancement of Women. Wilkerson critical analysis is titled A Raisin in
the Sun: Anniversary of an American Classic. Wilkerson s critical analysis discusses the various
social, historical, and artistic factors that have contributed to the play s contemporary relevance
and popularity, with particular focus on script revisions. (Wilkerson 442) Wilkerson states that
critics claimed that plays about the Black experience were seen as unattractive and of temporary or
limited appeal to the theatre audiences. A Raisin in the Sun was different because the play was
created at the right time. Wilkerson stated, The Play s phenomenal reception can be attributed, in
part, to its timeliness, for this dram reflects that moment in U.S. history when the country was
poised on the brink of cataclysmic social and legal upheavals that would forever change its
character. (Wilkerson 442) Hansberry happen to respond to Langston Hughespoem A Dream

South Africa s New Secrecy Bill Putting Country s...
South Africa is recognised internationally as a country passionate about upholding its democracy.
Last year however, the National Assembly decided to pass a condemned Secrecy Bill, two days
prior to Freedom Day, despite citizen s disapprovals. Was the event a mere coincidence or is our
country s democracy at stake?
The Secrecy Bill, formally known as the Protection of State Information Act, was introduced to
replace the apartheid era legislation. It is supposedly an improved legislation which serves to
protect sensitive or classified state information against unnecessary disclosure and destruction. It
has been noted by the media and even President Jacob Zuma himself that the Bill has some grey
areas where national interest remains too vague a reason for keeping information classified.
Furthermore, the Secrecy Bill restricts the media s access to government information, offering hefty
jail sentences to those who leak the secrets withheld by government. Is that a procedure to protect
the state of corruption in our country, or is it to protect the State itself?
As far as I am concerned, the Secrecy Bill acts against our constitutional rights. The South African
Constitution states that: Everyone has the right of access to any information held by the state.
Along with this, the Bill acts against the right to freedom of speech, as the media can no longer
publish articles freely. This means that journalists will no longer be able to investigate issues of
fraud, theft and

Refrigeration Systems That Use Environment Friendly...
Refrigeration systems that use environment friendly refrigerants provide a sustainability advantage
when compared to other refrigerant selections. However, the energy use associated with
refrigeration system operation and the environmental impacts associated with its generation and
distribution often outweigh the choice of refrigerant. To minimize environmental impacts
associated with refrigeration system operation, it is reasonable to evaluate the prospects of a
clean source of energy. Research has demonstrated that solar energy is an ideal source for low
temperature heating applications such as space and domestic hot water heating. From a
sustainability perspective, directly using solar as a primary energy source is attractive because of
its universal availability, low environmental impact, and low or no ongoing fuel cost. Research has
demonstrated that solar energy is an ideal source for lowtemperature heating applications such as
space and domestic hot water heating. Solar heating applications are intuitive since, when solar
energy is absorbed on a surface, the surface temperature rises, providing a heating potential. The
use of solar energy to provide refrigeration is less intuitive. In this article, we review three
approaches that use solar energy to provide refrigeration at temperatures below 0В°C (32В°F). In
addition to reviewing the potential technologies, we compare their operating characteristics. We
conclude that only one of the three

Freedom iin Kate Chopin s The Awakening Essay
Finding Freedom in The Awakening
In her novel, The Awakening, Kate Chopin shows Edna PontellierВ№s confrontations with
society, her imprisonment in marriage and EdnaВ№s exploration of her own sexuality. Chopin
also portrays Edna as a rebel, who after her experiences at Grand Isle wants to live a full and a free
life and not to follow the rules of society. EdnaВ№s life ends in her suicide, but her death does not
come as a surprise. Chopin foreshadows EdnaВ№s death by the use of nature and EdnaВ№s
connection to it; also by the use of symbols, especially the symbolic meaning of a bird; and by the
use of many different characters in the novel, such as Robert Lebrun, Mademoiselle Reisz and
Madame Ratignolle.

Mademoiselle Reisz tells Edna that people are cruel and if Edna doesnВ№t feel strong enough,
she will be like a weakling bruised, exhausted, fluttering back to earth (533). This conversation
foreshadows EdnaВ№s lack of strength and her death. As Edna takes her last swim, she sees the
bird with a broken wing , falling down to the water (558). Edna feels weak; she falls down into the
waters of Grand Isle.
When Edna meets Robert Lebrun at Grand Isle, she experiences an awakening from her life
long, stupid dream , as she recalls her life (553). She is ready to give her heart to Robert, but he
flees Grand Isle and Edna before he ruins his reputation as a good Creole . Robert knows that the
Creole husband is never jealous about the harmless flirting and as a good Creole , Robert cannot
go beyond these social boundaries (475). Robert follows the rules of his society; his departure
foreshadows his future actions towards Edna. She returns to her pigeon house and finds that
Robert is not waiting for her and the house is empty (556). Robert is gone again. Edna
remembers the warning of Mademoiselle Reisz about the cruelty of society. Edna is scared to
face the cruelty alone. Edna feels that without Robert by her side she is helpless. Edna doesnВ№t
want anyone near her except Robert (557) but he cannot be a good Creole and be with Edna. Even

Immigrant Assimilation
Many researchers have studied the immigrant assimilation in the recent years. America s ethnic
groups have been expected to come together as one and into the mainstream of american society
for decades. Immigrant assimilation is a complex process in which immigrants should not only
fully integrate themselves to a new country but also lose aspects perhaps all their heritage too if
necessary. Social scientists rely on a primary benchmark to assess immigrant assimilation which
is socioeconomic status. A melting pot can be described as a metaphor which indicates a society
where many different types of people blend in as one. Being an immigrant and assimilating to the
American society is hard but immigrants should get use to the American society and if it s
possible immigrants should accept to lose their heritage. The article posted may 1998 Immigrants

Living On Campus Vs College Essay
One of the biggest choices a student who has graduated high school and is ready to enroll in
college must make is whether they should go away to school or live at home and drive to classes.
Everyone has a different opinion on this decision, and it is based on the diverse lifestyles that
people live. Most students who commute to school are told that they are not having the full college
experience since they do not live on campus and spend more time at home. On the other hand,
those who live on campus are told that they are wasting their money and they will not be giving the
proper focus to their studies. Both sides of the argument have positives and negatives, so it is
difficult to determine which one is the best for their individual life style. Commutingto school and
living on campus have several similarities and differences they share, such as social, individual,
and economical effects. College is the place where most students meet their lifelong friends and
even their future spouses, so the social impact on each individual is tremendous. Some students,
both commuters and those who stay on campus, choose to isolate themselves from others and do
not attempt to be involved on campus or make any friends. This is a personal decision that the
individual could make in either living situation since the same opportunities are available for all
students. Even with the equal opportunity to make friends, commuters are less likely to be involved
in campus activities and only talk

To what extent can developmental dyslexia be explained by...
Dyslexia literally translated from Greek as inadequate words or language is a learning disability
characterised by problems with reading, writing, spelling and speaking. The most common
definition of dyslexia is the discrepancy definition, which suggests that dyslexics are those whose
reading ability is below average for their age group, or IQ. The first case of dyslexiawas reported in
1896 by Dr. Pringle Morgan, who described an intelligent 14 year old boy who had an inability to
read, as suffering from as Pringle Morgan believed word blindness resulting from deficiencies in
visual processing. Since Pringle Morgan s initial report, there have been many other explanations of
dyslexia. This essay will attempt to evaluate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gallagher, Frith and Snowling (submitted) demonstrated that 4 year old children from families
with a first degree relative suffering from dyslexia performed worse on tests of language and
speech processing, compared to children from non dyslexic families. This study supports the
phonological deficit hypothesis as it suggests that dyslexic children show early deficiencies in
speech production. Although the role of heritability is important to consider, due to the real
world implications it has of helping to identify at risk children who are more likely to develop
dyslexia, it cannot explain why there is only a 50 per cent rate of heritability for dyslexia. There
has also been very little research into the heritability of either deficits in visual processing, or
cerebellar abnormality.
Despite the support for the phonological deficit hypothesis, one of the main criticisms of the theory
is that it fails to acknowledge possible deficits in visual processing which may cause dyslexia. The
visual magnocellular deficit hypothesis (Stein, 2000) suggests that dyslexia may be caused by
deficiencies within visual processing; specifically within the magnocellular system, which is
responsible among other things for timing visual events when reading (Stein, 2001). Therefore, if
our eyes wander whilst reading, the magnocellular is responsible for bringing our focus back on
target. In dyslexics, it is suggested that

Is Harm Reduction a Desirable National Drug Control Policy...
Is Harm Reduction a Desirable National Drug Control Policy Goal?
There are many differing viewpoints in the United States when dealing with drug policy. Within the
political arena, drug policy is a platform that many politicians base their entire campaigns upon,
thus showing its importance to our society in general. Some of these modes within which drug
policy is studied are in terms of harm reduction, and supply reduction. When studying the harmful
effects of drugs, we must first to attempt to determine if drug abuse harms on an individual level
of if it is a major cause of many societal problems that we face today. In drawing a preliminary
conclusion to this question we are then able to outline the avenues of approach in dealing ... Show

Those that are opposed to harm reduction feel that its advocates are hypocrites that call for
tougher policies in dealing with alcohol and tobacco yet in the same breath call for reductions
in the penalties for illegal drug use. Opponents also believe that initiating a harm reduction
policy may in fact increase the use of illegal drugs as well as the people that are seeking drug
treatment. Robert J. MacCoun, is an associate professor in the Graduate School of Public policy
at the University of California and author of Toward a Psychology of Harm Reduction. Professor
MacCoun also supports the movement towards a harm reduction approach to drugs. He explains
how the harm reduction movement emerged in Amsterdam in the 1980 s in response to mounting
heath issues directly related to the use of drugs. Professor MacCoun illustrates that harm
reduction is not a program that has been proven effective in the war on drugs, being constantly
rejected as a viable option to present drug enforcement policy by the United States government.
Professor MacCoun illustrates however that the policies that the U.S. presently has in place has
failed in its ability to eliminate drug use thus causing the major harms of drug use in place.
Professor MacCoun believes that many of the drug related problems we have today are a result of
poor legislation as well as the

Edgar Allan Poe Outline
Edgar Allan Poe [1] Edgar Allan Poe (January 19, 1809 to October 7, 1849) was an American
writer, poet, critic and editor best known for evocative short stories and poems that captured the
imagination and interest of readers around the world. His imaginative storytelling and tales of
mystery and horror gave birth to the modern detective story. Many of Poe s works, including The
Tell Tale Heart and The Fall of the House of Usher, became literary classics. Some aspects of Poe
s life, like his literature, is shrouded in mystery, and the lines between fact and fiction have been
blurred substantially since his death. [2] Poe self published his first book, Tamerlane and Other
Poems, in 1827. His second poetry collection, Al Aaraaf, Tamerlane, and Minor Poems, was
published in 1829. As a critic at the Southern Literary Messenger in Richmond from 1835 to
1837, Poe published some of his own works in the magazine, including two parts of his only
novel, The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym. [3] In late 1830s, Poe published Tales of the
Grotesque and Arabesque, a collection of short stories. It contained several of his most spine
tingling tales, including The Fall of the House of Usher, Ligeia and William Wilson. [4] In 1841,
Poe launched the new genre of detective fiction with The Murders in the Rue Morgue. His literary
innovations earned him the nickname Father of the Detective Story. A writer on the rise, he won a

Robert Johnson Ramblin On My Mind Summary
Musical Analysis #3
As we discussed in class, the authors all believe that blues is much more than music. I identified
with the beliefs of the authors of the Robert Johnson and the Classic Blues passages. At the start of
the Robert Johnson passage, the author describes the perfect possibility of the American promise
as gaining energy from the pursuit of happiness. As Americans there is this innate belief that we
could achieve whatever we may want and if we do not have the ability to achieve our goals, in a
way we still deserve to obtain them. The author contrasts the statement, with the way that Robert
Johnson delivers his blues music as a way of breaking up and uncovering this desolate America
that reveals itself when it does fail you. Robert Johnson in Ramblin on My Mind , is an example
of the singer wanting love in his life but having to leave it since he is hurting. Throughout Johnson
s discography, a lot of his songs deal with sex. Here in this song it appears he found something real
with a woman but has been hurt through her actions and must leave her for his own emotional sake.

the songs now dealt with the internal monologues within themselves on a human level. Because

ownership impacts the variety of ideas and values that can circulate. Concentration of media
ownership threatens democracy in political journalism(Baker, 2007), leading to over representation
of political viewpoints, values that are favoured by media owners. There is a negative correlation
between media domination and levels of pluralism which is needed in society, to sustain
representation. The concentration of media ownership leads to less competing suppliers, thus
leaving a gap in a democratic political system. Due to Rupert Murdoch s large media empire, it

interpreted this way when considering the support given by News Corporation owned newspapers,
to Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s and Tony Blairin 1997. The impact of Rupert Murdoch can also

Comparison Of Pipe Dreams And In Love Again
The melodies in the music ranged from low to high and high to low. For instance, Dirty Fork is
an upbeat funk song with a high pitch. In Pipe Dreams, the pitch changed from high to low. Only a
few songs such as Be Bop, Brushes Anyone? Pot Luck, and In Love Again had a hummable
melody. For example, Be Bop, the saxophone melody returned in another part of the song without
any changes to the piece. While in Brushes Anyone, the drum melody changed to a saxophone
melody. In Pot Luck, there were two melodies with the trumpets and saxophone section and the
trombones and drums. The two melodies were similar, and the pitches changed from low to high.
In Love Again, began with a drum melody and the guitar and pianowere slowly added to the melody.

the era, nothing too bright, even tone and dark colors to give vibes of the dangerous mysteries that
await with yet another assassination. All things considered Michael, the younger brother slated to
become a congressman or maybe president, assassinated drug lord Sollozzo and the corrupt police
officer McCluskey. Michael falls into the wild card category portraying him, as innocently trying to
fit in, as later he developed into the character of The New Godfather.
Absolute power is the goal for the Corleone family, the demeanor and confidence of Don, Michael
and Sonny demanded respect of all who approached them for favors. The lighting exposed the own
dominant masculinity of Don and Michael Corleone, as they threatened or murdered a rival gang

head of the number one crime family using elimination to protect his business of Drugs, Casinos,
loan sharking and small businesses. As a result of Sonny s assassination, one primary focus is to

As girls grow in life, they mature and change into women. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, by
Harper Lee, Scout, the main character, begins to mature into a woman. In the beginning of the
book, she is a tomboy who cannot wait to pick a fistfight with anyone, but at the end, she lowers her
fists because her father, Atticus, tells her not to fight. Scout s views of womanhood, influenced by
how Aunt Alexandra, Miss Maudie, and Calpurnia act, make her think more about becoming a
womanand less of a tomboy. In the beginning of the book, Scout is a tomboy. She acts, dresses,
and walks like a boy because when she was little her mom died, leaving her in a house with two

Miss Maudie is another woman who Scout is around a lot, especially when Jem starts ignoring
Scout and ditching her for football. Miss Maudie changes Scout s perception of womanhood
because in the morning, Miss Maudie is dressed in overalls and men s clothing, but at night, she
changes into a dress and looks gorgeous showing Scout that being a woman does not mean that
every hour one has to be in a dress looking beautiful. Miss Maudie is a role model for Scout.
They sit on her porch and talk just like a mother and daughter, In summertime, twilights are long
and peaceful. Often as not, Miss Maudie and I would sit silently on her porch watching the sky
go form yellow to pink as the sun went down (43). Miss Maudie is there for Scout to lean on and
supports her during tough times like at Aunt Alexandra s tea party. Miss Maudie comforts her
when everyone was laughing: Miss Maudie looked gravely at me. She never laughed unless I
meant to be funny (229). Miss Maudie is there for Scout to hold her hand while the other ladies
are subtly making fun of Atticus and saying that he is a disgrace for defending a Negro. Miss
Maudie changes helps Scout change her views on becoming a woman. Calpurnia, the Finch s
nanny, is also a role model throughout the book for Scout, and throughout the book Scout s
perceptions about Calpurnia change. Calpurnia has been with the Finch s for a long time, but she

No Russi The Modern Warfare Against Videogame Violence No Russian: The Modern Warfare Against Videogame Violence While the movie industry has powerful rating boards such as the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) that regulate and censor an offensive product, the video game industry does not have a respectable, official rating board. Instead, the videogame industry has the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), which is a non profit, self regulatory body that was created in 1994 by the Entertainment Software Association. As the elevator was rising, Russian ultranationalist terrorist leader Vladimir Makarov gazed intently at his comrades and beckoned, Remember No Russian, initiating one of the most controversial moments of videogame history. During the level Remember No Russian of the popular first person shooter videogame Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the player assumes the role of a deep cover CIA agent, Joseph Allen, who is attempting to gather Intel on a highly dangerous Russian ultranationalist terrorist group. What started as a simple intel mission led to Agent Allen participating in an armed plot to massacre all the people in a Russian airport. As the elevator doors were opening, Vladimir Makarov reminds the player and the other gunmen not to speak any Russian throughout the scene. As the terrorists relentlessly fired their machineguns, blood splattered all over the airport as civilians fled in terror from the oncoming slaughter. In this treatment, pathogenic microbes (bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and parasitic worms) must be removed or reduced to harmless levels. It is well known that in any community, at any time, there are always small numbers of people who are either manifestly ill, in some stage of illness but not demonstratively so, or healthy carriers of diseases. Together, these are indications of a community s normal background of pathogenic microorganismsin which feces are in the sewage. • 6. Social Responsibility And Health Care Nursing is more than just the physical care that is delivered; it is the protection and promotion of health, the alleviation of suffering and the prevention and treatment of illness and injury (AHPRA, 2015). Workplace citizenship and its three core elements of team work, social responsibility and communication are essential in the nursing profession to develop skills and give the best nursing care that is possible, because of how these elements work individually as well as together. This essay will explore the negative and positive effects of each core element and how it affects the care that is delivered by nurses. Communication in nursing is an essential skill which allows nurses to capably deliver effective and efficient care. Nurses being providers of health care must be able to recognise and prevent barriers that may occur throughout the communication process as their job is to primarily interact with patients in a culturally diverse workplace (Dwyer, 2012). Barriers such as health illiteracy and poor communication play an important role on the care that is delivered by nurses and other health care providers. In 2006 an adult literacy and life skills survey was conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), information collected from the survey had shown that 59% of the Australian adult population displayed low health literacy skills. Religion, wealth, and health are all cultures in the American society. Oppression comes in forms such as racism, sexism, homophobia, classism, heterosexism, ableism, ageism, religious prosecution, and so on. Marilyn Frye (2000) explains in her essay Oppression, that the root of the word oppression is the element press, presses are used to mold or flatten things to reduce them by squeezing them, something pressed is caught between forces and barriers which are so related to each other that they restrain, restrict, or prevent the thing s mobility. (Frye, 2000, 11) Oppression immobilizes, it stems from the misunderstanding of people of different cultures who see others as deviant from the norm in their culture or the overall norm in society. For example, Joreen (1968) writes in the Bitch Manifesto that the most prominent characteristic of all Bitches is that they rudely violate conceptions of proper sex role behavior, the violation is different for each Bitch, but they all violate them (Joreen, 1968, 1). People then generally feel uncomfortable around Bitches, considering them aberrations, which leads the culture to create a dumping ground for all who they deplore as bitchy and call them frustrated women. The same oppression that is subjected to bitches for deviating from the norm is placed on all deviant groups within society, especially those who are stigmatized with the label of having a mental health illness. And each mental health illness has its own form of oppression, its own tag of stigma based on how severe (aka deviant) from the norm society and different cultures consider it. For example, feeling godly is considered by the culture of religion to be relatively normal or honorable, whereas by the rest of society ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After hundreds of conversations, we know that the Oakland community seeks an interdisciplinary, identity based curriculum to help students define who they are for themselves. In response, we have crafted each year of our middle school to help our students to address fundamental questions like who am I? Who are we (as a community)? Who am I becoming? • 14. Pericles Lion And The Sea-Onion Analysis he Lion and the Sea Onion. Most self respecting artists would pick the former as the subject for a monument and dismiss the latter. Yet, the man behind the moniker of Sea Onion cannot be so easily dismissed. Pericles, the great Athenian statesman, was nicknamed Schinocephalos , or Sea Onion, by contemporary poets because of the large size of his head ( Pericles , History.com). The Lion of Justice, in this case, refers to King Henry II of England ( King Henry II Biography ). On the surface, both Henry II and Pericles appear to be equally great leaders who made lasting impact on Western civilizations. Henry II established the English Common Law, which ensured the same laws applied everywhere in the country (Hinds 60). He also laid the foundation for a unified Britain by claiming Scotland and Ireland as parts of his realm (Morgan 143). Pericles united the Greek city states into an empire known as the Delian League with Athens at its center ( Pericles , University Press Inc). Under his leadership and patronage, arts, literature, and philosophy flourished, creating a cultural legacy that shaped all areas of Western thinking. Pericles also led the restoration of the Acropolis and the ambitious construction of the Parthenon (Nardo 10). But looking beyond their accomplishments, these two historical figures differ greatly in their motivations and personal conducts. Arguably, two of the most essential traits of a good leader are integrity and dedication to the common good. Using these qualities as a metric for comparison, we will see that Henry II falls short while Pericles is clearly deserving of a monument in his honor . Both Henry II and Pericles were highly driven and ambitious. But while Henry was fueled by the desire to glorify himself and his reign, Pericles wished to glorify Athens and its people. Henry II wanted to reclaim lands that were previously under his grandfather s rule. He used force and threats to claim lordship over Wales, Scotland, and Ireland (Hinds 12). In his mind, it was his birthright. As a general and statesman, Pericles also helped reclaim land (noticeably Delphi) for Athens ( Pericles , Bio). Christopher Wolfe believes that the framers would tend to give preferences in such cases to the fair reading of the document itself. To summarize, the approach to constitutional interpretation employed in the early years of American government: an interpreter is to begin with the words of the document in their ordinary popular usage and understand the in light of their context. That context includes the words of the provision of which it is a part, but also extends to the much broader context of the document as a whole. The deeper assumption underlying these early rules of interpretation was a fairly traditional realist epistemology: that the constitution has a fixed, determinate meaning intelligible to those who give it a fair reading. Under modern assumption, a constitution is unavoidably made up or created by interpreters, to a greater of lesser extent, as they go along. The framers of the constitution, on the contrary, looked at the constitution as an intelligible fixed standard that made possible a republican rule of law, rather than of men. The land in the southern Belgium, which is called Wallonia, is hillier than the northern part of Belgium, a region called Flanders. In Wallonia the language most spoken there is French, and in Flanders the language spoken is Dutch, it is also called Flemish. This has been a point of contention between the two regions. Many people to the north want only Flemish, or Dutch, spoken throughout the country. Going back to the 1800 s French was the official language spoken in Belgium. A Raisin in the Sun was different because the play was created at the right time. Wilkerson stated, The Play s phenomenal reception can be attributed, in part, to its timeliness, for this dram reflects that moment in U.S. history when the country was poised on the brink of cataclysmic social and legal upheavals that would forever change its character. • 26. South Africa s New Secrecy Bill Putting Country s... South Africa is recognised internationally as a country passionate about upholding its democracy. Last year however, the National Assembly decided to pass a condemned Secrecy Bill, two days prior to Freedom Day, despite citizen s disapprovals. Was the event a mere coincidence or is our country s democracy at stake? The Secrecy Bill, formally known as the Protection of State Information Act, was introduced to replace the apartheid era legislation. It is supposedly an improved legislation which serves to protect sensitive or classified state information against unnecessary disclosure and destruction. It has been noted by the media and even President Jacob Zuma himself that the Bill has some grey areas where national interest remains too vague a reason for keeping information classified. Furthermore, the Secrecy Bill restricts the media s access to government information, offering hefty jail sentences to those who leak the secrets withheld by government. Is that a procedure to protect the state of corruption in our country, or is it to protect the State itself? As far as I am concerned, the Secrecy Bill acts against our constitutional rights. The South African Constitution states that: Everyone has the right of access to any information held by the state. Along with this, the Bill acts against the right to freedom of speech, as the media can no longer publish articles freely. This means that journalists will no longer be able to investigate issues of fraud, theft and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Refrigeration systems that use environment friendly refrigerants provide a sustainability advantage when compared to other refrigerant selections. However, the energy use associated with refrigeration system operation and the environmental impacts associated with its generation and distribution often outweigh the choice of refrigerant. To minimize environmental impacts associated with refrigeration system operation, it is reasonable to evaluate the prospects of a clean source of energy. Research has demonstrated that solar energy is an ideal source for low temperature heating applications such as space and domestic hot water heating. From a sustainability perspective, directly using solar as a primary energy source is attractive because of its universal availability, low environmental impact, and low or no ongoing fuel cost. Research has demonstrated that solar energy is an ideal source for lowtemperature heating applications such as space and domestic hot water heating. Solar heating applications are intuitive since, when solar energy is absorbed on a surface, the surface temperature rises, providing a heating potential. The use of solar energy to provide refrigeration is less intuitive. In this article, we review three approaches that use solar energy to provide refrigeration at temperatures below 0В°C (32В°F). In addition to reviewing the potential technologies, we compare their operating characteristics. We conclude that only one of the three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Living On Campus Vs College Essay One of the biggest choices a student who has graduated high school and is ready to enroll in college must make is whether they should go away to school or live at home and drive to classes. Everyone has a different opinion on this decision, and it is based on the diverse lifestyles that people live. Most students who commute to school are told that they are not having the full college experience since they do not live on campus and spend more time at home. On the other hand, those who live on campus are told that they are wasting their money and they will not be giving the proper focus to their studies. Both sides of the argument have positives and negatives, so it is difficult to determine which one is the best for their individual life style. Commutingto school and living on campus have several similarities and differences they share, such as social, individual, and economical effects. College is the place where most students meet their lifelong friends and even their future spouses, so the social impact on each individual is tremendous. Some students, both commuters and those who stay on campus, choose to isolate themselves from others and do not attempt to be involved on campus or make any friends. This is a personal decision that the individual could make in either living situation since the same opportunities are available for all students. Even with the equal opportunity to make friends, commuters are less likely to be involved in campus activities and only talk ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dyslexia literally translated from Greek as inadequate words or language is a learning disability characterised by problems with reading, writing, spelling and speaking. The most common definition of dyslexia is the discrepancy definition, which suggests that dyslexics are those whose reading ability is below average for their age group, or IQ. The first case of dyslexiawas reported in 1896 by Dr. Pringle Morgan, who described an intelligent 14 year old boy who had an inability to read, as suffering from as Pringle Morgan believed word blindness resulting from deficiencies in visual processing. Gallagher, Frith and Snowling (submitted) demonstrated that 4 year old children from families with a first degree relative suffering from dyslexia performed worse on tests of language and speech processing, compared to children from non dyslexic families. This study supports the phonological deficit hypothesis as it suggests that dyslexic children show early deficiencies in speech production. Although the role of heritability is important to consider, due to the real world implications it has of helping to identify at risk children who are more likely to develop dyslexia, it cannot explain why there is only a 50 per cent rate of heritability for dyslexia. There has also been very little research into the heritability of either deficits in visual processing, or cerebellar abnormality. Despite the support for the phonological deficit hypothesis, one of the main criticisms of the theory is that it fails to acknowledge possible deficits in visual processing which may cause dyslexia. The visual magnocellular deficit hypothesis (Stein, 2000) suggests that dyslexia may be caused by deficiencies within visual processing; specifically within the magnocellular system, which is responsible among other things for timing visual events when reading (Stein, 2001). Therefore, if our eyes wander whilst reading, the magnocellular is responsible for bringing our focus back on target. In dyslexics, it is suggested that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of these modes within which drug policy is studied are in terms of harm reduction, and supply reduction. Edgar Allan Poe Outline Edgar Allan Poe [1] Edgar Allan Poe (January 19, 1809 to October 7, 1849) was an American writer, poet, critic and editor best known for evocative short stories and poems that captured the imagination and interest of readers around the world. His imaginative storytelling and tales of mystery and horror gave birth to the modern detective story. Many of Poe s works, including The Tell Tale Heart and The Fall of the House of Usher, became literary classics. Some aspects of Poe s life, like his literature, is shrouded in mystery, and the lines between fact and fiction have been blurred substantially since his death. As a critic at the Southern Literary Messenger in Richmond from 1835 to 1837, Poe published some of his own works in the magazine, including two parts of his only novel, The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym. It contained several of his most spine tingling tales, including The Fall of the House of Usher, Ligeia and William Wilson. I identified with the beliefs of the authors of the Robert Johnson and the Classic Blues passages. At the start of the Robert Johnson passage, the author describes the perfect possibility of the American promise as gaining energy from the pursuit of happiness. As Americans there is this innate belief that we could achieve whatever we may want and if we do not have the ability to achieve our goals, in a way we still deserve to obtain them. The author contrasts the statement, with the way that Robert Johnson delivers his blues music as a way of breaking up and uncovering this desolate America that reveals itself when it does fail you. Robert Johnson in Ramblin on My Mind , is an example of the singer wanting love in his life but having to leave it since he is hurting.
