Why Is Sociological Research Important in Our Everyday Lives? Cite Specific examples from
your own life in your response. We need it in our everyday lives because it helps us understand
why people do what they do. Like when we ask our minister if we can do something and he says

Creation myths and stories come in many different forms based on the culture it appeals too.
The Maya Indians were a group of tribes who lived around Central America and Mexico. Their
creation myth is one that is known as an example of creation ex nihilo which is creation from
nothing. This myth or collection of stories reveals that the Mayan culture values the natural
world, winning, and worship. The Mayan creation story starts off with the Earth being nothing
but water. Then there are six deities or that lay in the water and helped Hurakan create the Earth.
The power they had gave the Earth energy and spirit. They planted a ceiba tree to separate the
sky and Earth. Plants and animals were created but animals could not speak or worship the
deities. They decided to create humans from mud but were destroyed in a flood because they
had no souls. Next wooded humans were created but destroyed as well. The surviving ones are
supposed to have become monkeys. There was no Sun or Moon yet, but a bird named Seven
Macaw said he was both and the two hero twins killed him. The two twins played the game of ball

Beowulf was a book composed during the Anglo Saxon period of the world. It is a fictional about
an epic hero know as Beowulf who kills mighty creatures and saves kingdoms from opposing
armies and demons. This hero was from part of a tribe of a tribe known as the Gaets. In this story
he comes to the aid of the Danesand their king Hrothgar. He battles multiple creatures for the

There are many differences between the two such as setting, characters, and the organization of
the storyline. In the book they start out at in Danish kingdom and switch the Gaet s kingdom
with the return of Beowulf. But in the movie the setting is always in the Danish kingdom. The
stories are similar because they both start out at Herot hall in the Danish kingdom. As far as
characters go Wiglaf, Beowulf, and Hrothgar all have the same character roles in both the
storylines. But in the movie there is not a character named Aschere like in the book. Instead
Unferth s role as a Gaet in the book is opposite for the movie. Grendel was killed the same way
when Beowulf tears his arm off. For example the mom wasn t killed in the movie and she
became Beowulf s lover. In the movie Hrothgar is Grendel s dad but not in the book. In the book
Wiglaf deals the final blow to the dragon with his sword but in the movie Beowulf rips its heart
out. In both the book and movie Beowulf is showered with treasure and honor from the grateful

Executive Summary
This report is about the social customs in America, Vietnam and China. Social customs include
actions and behaviors that are expected of a particular culture, and people could learn the particular
culture via its social customs. We introduced four aspects in the report: dining etiquette, gift
presenting etiquette, festival celebration and the wedding process. We tried to represent all three
of these cultures in all of the aspects of the report. The Chinese and Vietnamese cultures are quite
similar in these areas, but these two cultures differ greatly from the American culture. From these
aspects, we can learn how different the American culture, Vietnamese culture and Chinese culture
are. We used primary sources such as an interview, a survey, and our own personal experiences to
form this report. We also used secondary sources such as the Web to help move our research along.
Our goal is to inform our audience of the social customs of these cultures. We tried to show a

Betrayal of Gender Roles in Fairy Tales
Fairy tales are one of the most well read genres, including classic fairy tales such as the Disney
version of Snow White One of the identifying features of this genre is the use of gender roles and
the way it endorses certain values in regards to male and female. However, throughout the years
fairy tales have undergone great changes, towards the view of woman representation and gender
roles. In the contemporary Snow White the values of classical fairy tales have changed offering a
new perspective of gender roles and how women are represented.
In a contemporary version of Snow White by The Merseyside Fairy Story Collective, where a
young girl named Snow White and her friends the dwarfs are miners for the Queen and they
fought against her, who ruled over the people. Snow White was to live in the castle and to create
jewels for the Queen. The Queen asked the mirror who is the happiest in the land. The mirror was
interpreted as a symbol of communism which showed gender inequality. In the contemporary Snow
White, the mirror showed the Queen the workers and showed her what they were doing. For
example, the Queen could see what was happening anywhere in her kingdom. When she looked
into the mirror and saw any of her subjects doing things which displeased her she sent soldiers to
