2. • Katy Perry, original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson. She was
born in October 25, in 1984, in Santa Barbara, Califonia.
• She grew up singing religious music as a gospel tunes. When she was
a teenager, she learned to play the guitar and began her musical
career. She recorded a gospel disc but it sold poorly. By then,
however, Hudson, how she was called, had found a new musical
models inspired in artists as Freddie Mercury and Alanis Morissette,
whom she had discovered through friends.
• She moved to Los Angeles and changed her name for Perry. Perry is
the middle name’s her mother. She adopted her mother’s name to
avoid confusion with the actress Kate Hudson.
3. • Perry’s initial carrer was dificult. Only in 2007 when she
recorded I kissed a girl she was known, but some critics derided
it for promoting same-sex relations.

• When “Last Friday Night” reached the top of the Billboard Hot
100 chart in mid-2011, Perry tied Michael Jackson’s record of
five number one songs from a single album.

• ‘Roar’ is one of only 10 music videos in the 3 billion club

• The music video was released on 5 September 2013 and
helmed by Grady Hall and the Grammy-winning director Mark
Kudsi, who transformed the Los Angeles County Arboretum and
Botanic Garden into an African jungle, and Perry into a female-
version of Tarzan.
• Fun fact: The directors used a real tiger for the video, who also
happened to be named Katy, and Perry did all of her own
stunts.
