Reflection Of Samuel Burt And Mixed Signals In Computer Music
On October 30th, we had our sixth presentation of this course. We are getting close to the end of the
course with two lectures left. The lecturer, this time, was Goucher s computer music professor Samuel
Burt, with Lisa Weiss helping him. According to his bio, among his title as a professor, Samuel Burt is
a composer. He had a Bachelors of Music from the University of Georgia. Then, he received a Master
of Music from Peabody Institute for composition and computer music. He is a member of the High
Zero Foundation and has participated in the High Zero Festival. This foundation is a way of
showcasing experimental and improvised music in Baltimore. He participated and performed in the
Red Room series and the Worlds in Collusion at Artscape. To add to his repertoire, he builds and sells
daxophones, which are wooden friction based instruments. He also creates/designs his own electronic
music software that we had the chance to experience for ourselves in his lecture. Before the lecture,
Burt had been tinkering away at the computer to make sure that everything was perfected beforehand.
He then had us introduce ourselves and we all chatted for a bit. Soon, it was time for the main event.
First, Burt showed us his composition, Mixed Signals. With the help of Lisa Weiss playing her part on
the piano, the computer would take that note, play it back, and delay it. It is time and sound sensitive,
so we were instructed to be as quiet as possible, in order for the computer to not pick up

Hunter Gatherers Research Paper
Inquiry 2 The Hunter Gatherer
Until around the year of 10 000 BCE all of our ancestors were only hunter gatherers. Hunter gatherers,
were people who hunted for all things, in order to survive, ranging from animal meat, their skin, nuts,
fruits and much, much more. When the food on their living area became smaller in quantity and out of
season, they would move onto different territory. Our ancestors of hunter gatherers were reported to of
lived a very successful lifestyle for more than 100 000 years.
Some historians have a theory of their own, this is that the change in a hunter gatherers lifestyle to
having a settled life of farming was one of the worst mistakes humans had ever made in history.

Eating plants also made up a big part of many humans diets. Some early Humans even figured out a
way to use plants as medicine. Wild fruit that humans found was one of the simplest sources of sugar
for early people. Just as we all enjoy a bit of sugar, the early children may of enjoyed eating the sweet,
ripe fruit. When people found fruit and brought it back to the camp, they would purposely scatter fruit
seeds so that it would of encouraged fruits to grow nearby.
Early humans almost hunted anything in sight that climbed, crawled, walked, flew or swam. Animals
were a main source of food, which was needed to survive in climates, especially cold climates. That
meant that humans had to invent effective weaponry for their hunting, so that they could stay alive.
Arrow Points
Sharp edges made from stones and bones had been attached to the end of arrows or spears so that it
was able to cut through the animals skin.
Bow hunting
As the Stone Age neared its end, bows began to be invented. They had needed a lot more time and
effort to make, but on the upside the hunter didn t have to be as close to their prey as they did with
spears, this way was a much safer to

The Use Of Yoga And Standard Physical Therapy Essay
Statistical Analysis Outline Quantitative Research Question In older women with osteoarthritis (OA),
is there a significant difference in the quality of life between those who participate in yoga and those
who participate in standard physical therapy? Descriptive statistics will be used to describe the
baseline characteristics of the two intervention groups (yoga and standard physical therapy). The
baseline characteristics will include body mass index (BMI) and severity of disease (the Kellgren
Lawrence grading scale for osteoarthritis). Hypothesis 1  Null hypothesis: There will be not be a
difference between the effect of yoga and standard physical therapy on the WOMAC scale at five
weeks in older women diagnosed with OA at a significance level of 0.05.  Alternative hypothesis:
There will be a difference between the effect of yoga and standard physical therapy on the WOMAC
scale at five weeks in older women diagnosed with OA at a significance level of 0.05.  Independent
variable: Intervention, measured at two levels (yoga and standard physical therapy) and time,
measured at two levels (pre and post five weeks); dependent variable: WOMAC scale, measured at
two levels (group and over time).  Scale of measurement: The independent variable intervention is a
nominal scale of measurement and time is a ratio scale of measurement; the dependent variable is a

Puerto Rican Political Parties
As a child growing up in Puerto Rico I attended many political campaigns with my father. He was the
true meaning of the word fanatic when it came to politics and he had been a politician at an earlier
time in his life also. He believed with every fiber in his body that Puerto Rico should become the fifty
first state of the United States. My father passed away not seen his dream come true.
In Puerto Rico, political parties are associated to the three status choices. There is the New Progressive
Party that supports statehood, also the Popular Democratic Party for the commonwealth status and the
Puerto Rican Independence Party that prefers as it s name state, independence. These three ideals have
painted the landscape of the island s political history with the pro statehood and pro commonwealth
parties with the vast majority of followers. For over 100 years, these two main choices have divided
the island s people and both parties believe that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They point out the fact that many Puerto Ricans have served and continue to serve in the Armed

However, financially there would be a substantial difference with these programs, according to the

an average of $4.5 to $6 billion. Medicaid will go from $685 million to $1.1 to $2.1 billion. Snap

Silence Before the Screams
Who would have thought the world could change in the course of seven seconds? The cheers turned
into a deadly silence, everyone dropping to the ground protecting themselves and their children. The
presidential limousine speeding off, but where is it going and why? President Kennedy and Governor
Connally have been shot, both fighting for their lives, but the question is who shot him, and where was
it from? November 22, 1963 Dealey Plaza, people were lining up to get a glance at President John F.
Kennedy. Kennedy arrived in Dallas, Texas to deliver a speech for his reelection for Presidency. He
was scheduled to arrive and say his speech, but then a terrible turn of events happened. At around
12:30 P.M. as his bubble limousine was turning the corner, no one expected they d have to be
shielding themselves from a gunman, let alone seeing JFK be shot. 12:34 P.M. there was a silence,
then screams of horror. Jacqueline Kennedy holding on to her husband as his life is slowly slipping
away in her fingers.
The police are first to act, but they don t have much to go on. They enter all the tall buildings
surrounding Dealey Plaza, but one employee from The School Depository Building is missing; his
name was Lee Harvey Oswald. As questions begin to surface about Kennedy being shot, suspicions
grow about Oswald too. Where did Oswald go and why did he have to leave so soon after the
shooting? Kennedy had several gunshot wounds. One of the nonfatal wounds was in his

George Orwell s Emphasis Of The Two Minutes Hate
The Reason Behind George Orwell s Emphasis of the Two Minutes Hate Many technological
advancements have been made throughout the years, and almost all people have access to some form
of technology. In 1984 this is also true with technological advancements being made to their television
and broadcasting systems. The technological advancements made to these items is the reason for
George Orwell including the Two Minutes Hate in his book. He puts a lot of emphasis on this idea in
the beginning of the book, but this emphasis is not only to show his predictions for technology. The
reason for emphasis of the Two Minutes Hate in 1984 is the timeframe when George Orwell wrote it,
and his commentary on the downsides of technology. The time frame that this book was written fits
the reason as to why he is so vast in describing technology, as the television was just making its
appearance when this book was written (1984). The idea that a television could do all of the things
that it does in this book would have been mind blowing to the population. The fact that technology
like this was new allowed Orwell to make any prediction that he wanted to without being shot down,
because there was no one who would have been able to prove him wrong. The Two Minutes Hate
allowed him to express how he felt about technologies future, while still being able to successfully
show a totalitarian leader. The timeframe this book was written in is a main component as to why
Orwell emphasizes the

Side Effects Of Vegetarianism
Have you ever thought about going on a vegetarian diet? Well you might want to think again. So many
people have different views on this topic. Physicians can argue forever between the pros and cons a
vegetarian diet can have on a person. Vegetarianism isn t necessarily bad for you, but others
completely disagree. Are vegetarian diets as healthy as everyone claims? Vegetarians usually believe
that their diets are very clean and have a great impact on the well being of their life, while others claim
that the diet is completely harmful to your well being. The following will explain the beneficial side
effects and the harmful side effects of vegetarianism. Vegetarian diets are considered one of the most
healthiest diets. Physicians recommend a vegan diet for better overall health. One of the reasons why
is because vegetarians usually live longer than meat eaters. According to the article, Physicians
Committee for Responsible Medicine, a vegetarian diet is lower in saturated fats. (Physicians
Committee, 1) Lower saturated fats in a diet aid to a healthy heart, resulting in a generally longer life
span. There are different types of proteins. Plants and animals, when consumed, each supply us with
different proteins. Replacing animal protein with plant protein lowers blood cholesterol levels. From
the Physicians committee article, a study shown that adding meat to a vegetarian diet raises blood
pressure rapidly and significantly. (Physicians Committee, 1). This information

Edward Snowden Research Paper
The German Intelligence Apparatus The German intelligence agencies roots go back to the days of the
Abwehr when Germany had the most sophisticated intelligence and counter intelligence agency in the
world prior to the start of WWI. Today German intelligence agencies are split into four different
agencies with some overlapping responsibilities and missions. The largest of these is the Federal
Intelligence Service (Bundesnachrichtendienst). The BDN acts as an early warning to alert German
officials of potential threats from abroad. Since it is Germany s only overseas intelligence agency it
collects on military and civilian interest. It often shares information and works closely with the KSA,
Strategic Reconnaissance Command, on those missions. Its primary missions are to collect and
analyze data on terrorists, WMD s, drug and weapon trafficking, illegal migration and information
warfare. The BDN has a $615 million Euro budget and has 6500 employees. The agency is one of the
best and most effective intelligence agencies in the world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

NSA collection in Germany, attention was drawn to the BDN s own telecommunication collection
activities in Bavaria. The revelation that the NSA was using the BDN to listen in on not only German

Squatter By Thomas King Summary
The idea of a home is a broad one that has very different ways of responding to it. This is the way of
thinking that to writers use in their short stories. For the writers, the way they view home is one of
identity and culture. While these two themes are positive the writers show how they get people in
trouble with law and day to day life. In the short story borders by Thomas King, the concept of home
is illustrated on the focuses on the nationality and identity of a person rather than the place they call
home. The viewpoint of the home creates a diverse idea in which a home is not where one lives but
who the view themselves as. This is seen I the interaction of the mother and the border patrol over
who she claims her citizenship as. citizenship ? Blackfoot, my mother told him (pg. 257). This starts
an altercation between the mother and the patrol officers in which Blackfoot is not a citizenship but
still an identity of home. This the way mother identifies her sense home in heritage instead of ... Show

The Importance Of Human Evolution
Through research it has been determined that evolution is a part of nature, and organisms become
more complex over time. As organisms become more complex their characteristics begin to change,
and aspects that are beneficial for their survival become prominent in their offspring. However,
characteristics that are not beneficial to their survival begins to fade as organism evolve. From this
arise Charles Darwin s theory that evolution occurs because of natural selection, expressing that
organisms with the best characters will have a higher survival rates and have the ability to pass these
characteristics to their offsprings. Branching out from the theory of evolution it is believed that all
species have a common ancestor. Depending on how similar and different species are the further back
in time they would share a common ancestor. By discovering fossil remains, using radioactive dating,
and DNA mutation rates scientist were able to develop a phylogenetic tree. As of right now the
phylogenetic tree is extensive, but it is not complete. Human evolution is a prime example of a branch
that is still incomplete. By comparing DNA it has been determined that Chimps and Human DNA are
98.8 percent similar, however we are still different species (1). The question that still needs to be
answered is who is the common ancestor of Human and Chimps. Recently human ancestry has
become clear through the discovery of Ardipithecus ramidus, commonly referred to as Ardi. A group
of scientists

A Study On Eating Pathology Among Latinas Essay
THEORETICAL PROPOSITIONS There is a lack of studies that investigate the eating pathology
among Latinas even though there is evidence that a binge eating component (i.e. binge eating disorder,
bulimia nervosa) is more prevalent among Latinas compared with other races. For those who are
engaged in binge eating tend to have unrealistic high expectations for themselves, which often are
difficult to achieve. When the individual, in this case a Latina, has fallen short of these high
expectations, they experience negative affect from which she is motivated to binge eat. Dr. Neyland
proposed that stressful experiences across three domains of interest: individual, family, and
environment. The independent variable of acculturative stress (individual level) is defined as the stress
and reduction in health status that one experiences while going under the process of adapting to a
different culture. Then for family, there is family disconnection, which is not unique to Latinas but
there is a strong emphasis that Latinas place on family relationships. They value it so much that if they
experience family disconnection, they would likely be experienced as failure to meet cultural
standards. And lastly, there is the environmental factor which is discrimination. Among Latina/os,
there is a large amount of reports of discrimination which is believed to have impacted many to have
lower self esteem and a significantly slower growth in self esteem over time. Neyland hypothesized

The Philosophy of Erich Fromm
Philosopher Erich Fromm was born in the early 20th century and could witness all of its major
developments (Cherry). Not only did it bring technological progress and new ideologies, but also
bitter fruits of war unseen by mankind before. He contemplated the motives behind aggression and
violence which led him to the study of psychology and sociology (Cherry). Fromm s last work, To
Have or to Be (1976), is the culmination of his strive to find and explain the purpose of human life. He
perceived our existence as being driven by either the having or the being mode and explained this idea
by using psychological finds merged with sociological evidence.
To Fromm, the two modes of existence are inherent to our nature. The two conflicting ... Show more

On the contrary, he pays more attention to the influence which society has on a person and even
rejects some of Freud s concepts ( Erich Fromm Encyclopædia Britannica.).
Whereas Fromm discards some of Freud s ideas, he agrees with much of Marx s theory. He uses an
example of class war where those who are concerned with material equality are as obsessed with
possession as those on top. On the contrary, if everybody s possessions are functional and personal,
then whether someone has somewhat more than another person does not constitute a social problem
(Fromm 84). Fromm provides evidence that Marx was an advocate of this idea. One of the good
qualities of the book is that Marx s philosophy is explained from the point which people often
overlook because of the general negative perception of the Soviet Union as an example of a Marxist
Leninist state.
Besides, Fromm states that the problem of having and being is a topic that was examined for a long
time even before Freud and Marx. He employs the theological motifs of Christianity and Judaism. He
gives an example of Moses, who led his people into the desert, where they were free from possession
and could fully appreciate the joy of being. In the Christian tradition, Jesus acts for the sake of all
people while, at the same time, he has nothing material. Such appreciation of the Jewish and Christian
traditions can be explained by Fromm s personal background. He was born into an

The Realization Of Doublethink In 1984 By George Orwell
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH is one of the party s key phrases. This means that having uneducated,
oblivious people, contributes to the power of the party. The citizens of Oceania must believe
everything the government tells them in order to be controlled. People who refuse to believe these lies,
or try to let people know the truth, are considered enemies of the party. This is considered
thoughtcrime, and anyone who is found guilty is subject to vaporization , and will never be seen again.
In 1984, George Orwell uses characterization of the protagonists, Winston and Julia, and plot to
explain how in a society built upon countless lies, it is a crime to think or spread the truth. The
character construction of Winston Smith is based around his thoughts of truth and conspiracy. He tries
to practice doublethink, but is often unsuccessful. If you want to keep a secret, you must also hide it
from yourself. (Orwell 283). This is a thought of Winston Smith near the end of the book. This
describes the thought process of doublethink, and how one must hide their true thoughts from
themself. When Winston is done being tortured, he begins to hide the truth from himself. Life, if you
looked about you, bore no resemblance not only to the lies that streamed out of the telescreens, but
even to the ideals that the Party was trying to achieve. (Orwell 74). Winston has this thought while
considering whether the proles could ever rebel. This passage is a description of the contrast

Respect for women is precisely what is lacking in modern Indian society yet Mother India , Mother
Ganga and a multitude of goddesses are all apparent symbols of respect to the female gender.
We in the west may ask, why the Indian government isn t legislating to control crimes against women,
however there are already many laws in place to protect women, on par with laws found in developed
countries. For example, The Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, an act to prohibit the giving or taking of
dowry, dowry being the amount of money or property brought by a bride to her husband on their
marriage, The Married Woman s Property Act, 1874 and The Protection of Women from Domestic
Violence Act, 2005.
Despite 44 laws targeted towards the protection of women, crime rate statistics show that women are
still very much at risk, evidenced by the Thomson Reuters Trust Law indicator which ranked India as
the worst G20 country in which to be a woman and the fact that one woman in India dies every hour
because of dowry related crimes, reported in 2013 by LifeNews.com. There isn t a simple explanation
as to why the laws are being broken, ignored, and have failed to be upheld in court.

upper classes would like to think. But it is a poor country with income per capita

I am interested in the nutrition program at MUIH for a variety of reasons. I have a passion for learning
how nutrients and food can significantly impact the body and a desire to share and help individuals
reach their health and wellness goals. Additionally, this program will provide me with the opportunity
to step foot into a career focused on preventative health. One of my passions in life has consistently
been about food, nutrition and wellness. As a small child, I was inspired by my mother and her
journey back to school to become a nutritionist. Consistently throughout my childhood, I was guided
towards healthy food with nutritional quality and learned about holistic health and how these things
can directly impact one s quality of life. Once I entered college, my love and passion for cooking and
food became apparent and I began to learn how to cook nutritiously and for substance. My knowledge
base grew as I began to seek out online sources of information from nutritionists and dietitians alike. I
have learned that there is not one thing that is a cure all when it comes to an individual s health, but
that prevention is key and nutrition can go a long way in helping a body recover.

How Did Shakespeare Influence The American Theatre
There are lots of important things that were created in the Renaissance. Drama was one of the most
impressive inventions that they improved. One of the theaters that they had was the Globe Theater.
Even though the Globe Theater was destined for failure, it became successful due to Shakespeare and
the support of the Royal Monarch. Before understanding Shakespeare and his impact on the Globe
you have to know a little bit of information on plays and prediction in the Renaissance time period.
The plays before Shakespeare connected more to a religious point of view and the morals were more
simple(Currie,109). Playwrights were based off of morals for the writing in the books, just like how to
day we have movies based off books. The only difference is that the plays were played of of religious
books. An example of one of their most common morals Stephen Currie writes in a book, One person

Baby Shakespeare was born in Stratford upon Avon(Brandenberg,12). During his years in school, he

without the background he wouldn t have be able to help the Globe the popular place we know. When
shakespeare was age 18, he married Anne Hathaway(Brandenberg,13). Anne supported shakespeare

Interfacing Life Decisions
Life can be indefatigable. Two roads in front that leads you into two different directions. For instance
choosing the right motive after some time to guide you to your desirable place. Interfacing life
decisions is a part of our destiny. It lessens us to grow into the human beings we are today.
Predominantly these decisions are part of our personal journey. As a matter of fact it affects an
individual s fate directly or indirectly. Nonetheless, just keep looking forward whatever happens life is
a roller coaster; you ll never know what s awaiting you on the other side of the door. Setting free
someone you care about is undeniable. It s strange how you can know a person and be best friends.
Then years down the road you drift away. This kind of occasion happened in my life. He was the
person I called when I was disconcert, flustered, or needed a shoulder to cry on. The only person who
knew me like the back of my palms. I never had someone care so much about me, and put me first
rather than him. He always say I d do anything just to see you smile . He brought so much joy into my
life. He isn t in my life anymore, things happen for a reason; no matter how much it hurts we can t do
anything. I spent most of my days sitting in my room or my desirable place the beach. A Sunday night,
sudden breeze, the humidity lurking in my body while tears drip down my face. Pitch dark; imagine a
scene that portrays the sounds of waves collapsing against each other. No one around, just my

Florence Kelley Rhetorical Analysis
Improving undesirable working conditions for women and eliminating child labor was an impassioned
issue for female reformers during the time of industrialization in the United States. Florence Kelley, a
united states social worker and reformer, opposes the appalling work environment children as young
as six would toil through and relays her speech to the National Woman Suffrage Association to propel
her audience to demand changes that are necessary to stop countless hours of hard work the youth
struggle to complete. Kelley adopts a fervid tone in order to convince the audience that political action
is needed to adjust the laws that allows child labor to continue in many states with her use of pathos
and rhetorical questions meant to stir action ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kelley questions if the enfranchisement of women would ve led to the Georgia Legislature refusing at
every session for the last three years to stop the work in the mills of children under twelve years of age
(lines 56 58). This rhetorical question is aimed at the men who continuously vote to allow twelve year
old s and under to work in mills which were known for its horrendous working conditions and lack of
safety. Therefore, she presumes that mothers and teachers are the ones who would repeal the law in
favor for their children; The men are not standing up for the rights of the youth. She proves her
purpose by establishing that men should reflect on whether they had a role in allowing child labor to
fester for years and taking advantage of people who cannot speak up for themselves. Kelley continues
her questioning by asking if the New Jersey Legislature would ve stopped the shameful repeal bill
enabling girls of fourteen years to work all night if mothers had the right to vote (lines 59 61). The
author theorizes from the trends shown in the Georgia and New Jersey legislature that suffrage for
would cause a major reorder of legislations that would pass. Using diction choice of shameful
emphasizes the guilt she wants men to discern from the multiple cases illustrating the growing
injustices of child labor

Opposition To Nazi Regime
Despite the fact all opposition to the Nazi Regime recorded ended in perpetrators going to
concentration camps and, in all likelihood, executed, opposition to the Nazi Regime was
unquestionably significant. There were groups who dedicated a great deal of their time opposing the
Nazi Regime while others took up years planning assassinations of Hitler. Considering the fact that
anything significant is sufficiently great or important and worthy of attention, means that with the
countless amounts of reported cases and how important they were, and are, to many people including
citizens, Nazis, Hitler, and even modern day studies, there is no question that many of the opposition,
if not all, was and is absolutely significant. In spite of Hitler

The Pricing Objective Of The Marketing Strategy
The pricing objective of the marketing strategy is profit centered, meaning the new services are
expected to maximize the company profits. In evaluating the target audience, gym participants are not
found to be price sensitive, generally. Rather, they are value conscious and tend to place a high
emphasis on quality in evaluating the membership cost. People have various motives in joining a gym
including socializing, recreation, taking shape, losing weight, or health requirements. Because of the
intangible nature of the gym experience and health related matters, people do tend to be more value
conscious than price sensitive.
Understanding how the customers evaluate the price aids in choosing an appropriate pricing basis
strategically. For the new services, ABC Fitness will take a markup pricing approach with a
predetermined rate of 40%, set by the executives. 24 hour access. The costs associated with this
service include a video surveillance system, access cards, club fixtures, and promotional programs.
Using secondary data (Snap Fitness, 2014), a rough estimate has been developed and presented in
Table 1.
Assuming a 40% markup, the total cost of adding this service comes to a total of $43,400. The new
service is expected to increase the memberships by 25% annually. Over a window of 5 years, under
this assumption, the current membership size will grow from 200 to 488; an expected 288 sign ups for
this add on service which is equivalent to an average of 58 new

Gregor Mendel Essay
Gregor Mendel played a huge role in the underlying principles of genetic inheritance. Gregor was
born, July 22 1822 in Heinzendorf, Austrian Silesia (now known as Hyncice, Czech Republic), with
the name Johann Mendel. He changed his name to Gregor in 1843. He grew up in an Augustinian
brotherhood and he learned agricultural training with basic education. He then went on to the Olmutz
Philosophical Institute and later entered the Augustinian Monastery in 1843. After 3 years of
theological studies, Mendel went to the University of Vienna, where 2 professors influenced him; the
physicist Doppler and a botanist named Unger. Here he learned to study science through
experimentation and aroused his interest in the causes of variation in plants. ... Show more content on

This hypothesis can be divided into four main ideas. The first idea is that alternative versions of genes
account for variations in inherited characters. Different alleles will create different variations in
inherited characters. The second idea is that for each character, an organism inherits two genes, one
for each parent. So that means that a homologous loci may have matching alleles, as in the true
breeding plants of Mendel s P generation (parental). If the alleles differ, then there will be F hybrids.
The third idea states that if the two alleles differ, the recessive allele will have no affect on the
organism s appearance. So an F hybrid plant that has purple flowers, the dominant allele will be the
purple color allele and the recessive allele would be the white color allele. The idea is that the two
genes for each character segregate during gamete production. Independent assortment states that each
member of a pair of homologous chromosome segregates during meiosis independently of the
members of other pairs so that alleles carried on different chromosomes are different distributed
randomly to the gametes. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Mendel s work was not recognized right away
as an important scientific breakthrough. In 1868 Mendel was promoted to abbot at the monastery and
gave up his experiments. Aside from his fellow monks and his students his work was

Rhetorical Analysis of The Truman Show
What I aim to do with this rhetorical analysis is bring forth to the reader a deeply immersive look at
the rhetorical concepts present in the film The Truman Show. It is important for a viewer to fully
understand the underlying messages and subtle undertones in between the lines, so to speak. The
Truman Show is one man s life being played out in a closed environment for the entertainment of the
outside world. Most important to note, Truman Burbank has no clue that his whole life has been little
more than just a television program produced on a grand scale to produce the image of reality in a
dome. The Truman Show blends ethos, logos, and pathos together in a symphony of self discovery and
power over an adversary, whether physical or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ethos belongs to Christof, it is his character, allowing him to be the god. Truman is the veritable
Adam/Eve in Eden. When searching for self awareness and knowledge outside of the Garden, his
behavior is condemned by his God. Without Christof s undying credibility, he would not be allowed to
play God. Within the same scope of thinking, Truman has a limited amount of choices he can make.
This brings to light the true definition of free will and as to whether there is a true definition to be
heard. When given the choices only to walk left or walk right with the absence of the ability to stay
put, is choosing one of two inevitable ends really a choice empowered by free will? The logos
presented in the film rests with the true nature of Truman s free will, or lack thereof. In a scripted
world of thespians and set pieces, all with a certain purpose in mind, how can an individual exist with
free will? Truman has decisions thrust upon him and they are driven into him by the guilt he possesses
from the death of his father. When Truman confronts his mother with a desire to shake up the status
quo, to get out of his snow globe, he is tamed with the simple reminder that he is responsible for his
father s death. What s so elegant and beautiful about the sinister nature of it all is that it s hidden
within the context of a cleverly crafted conversation. A simple, I never blamed

Sexuality In Tennessee Williams Cat On A Hot Tin Roof
In the play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Williams explores a theme of sexuality. The story focuses on Brick
and his wife, Margaret. Margaret cares deeply for Brick and refuses to leave his side. Brick is ashamed
of his sexulity in the play. When he was younger he was great at sports and had a very close
relationship with his friend, Skipper. As I read the play I could see The crutch now bounds and helps
create a juxtaposition of his former self. When Brick was younger he was happy being with Skipper,
but now he attempts to escape. In the play the motif is the click in Brick s head. All he wants
throughout the play is to have the click occur. When the click occurs he can finally go to sleep in
peace. The click I get in my head when I ve had enough of this stuff to make me peaceful (Williams
26). A urge to escape can be seen in many of Williams play. Big Mama is a over caring and
overreaching character in the play. She attempts to have everything be perfect. Big Daddy is an angry
man who refuses to see that people care for him. These two character share a similar connection with
Williams father and mother. Big Daddy aggression towards his family is similar to how Williams
father became filled with aggression in his later years. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sashaying your fat old body around the place I made. (Williams 58). Big Mama deeply hurt by what
Big Daddy has said, just attempts to pass it off as if he isn t feeling himself. She has been nothing but
loyal to him, but he only sees it as her trying to get what he has made. Brick cannot accept his feelings

Police Officers Use Of Force
Police Officers use of force has been an big issue for many decades, But has now made its way to
mainstream. From news to social media there s always a recent relevant story/ case on police officers
use of force. In 2016 Baton Rouge man, Alton Sterling was killed do to Police officers use of
excessive force. This sparked an outrage in the nation after Mr. Sterlings murder went viral through
social media. The shooting led to protests in Baton Rouge and a request for a civil rights investigation
by the U.S. Department of Justice.
There were boycotts of the malls in Baton Rouge, people were marching even holding up traffic. This
didn t only occur in Baton Rouge, but across the U.S. people were standing up for this injustice. Alton
Sterling was selling cd in front of a convenience store when two officers approached him, the situation
escalated Mr. Sterling was shot several times resulting in his death. Baton Rouge police did not
provide much information about what escalated the incident between the officers and Sterling or what
prompted an officer to fire his weapon. A witness, however, described police as aggressive and said
Sterling was armed but was not holding his gun or touching his pockets during the incident. The level
of force an officer uses varies based on the situation. Because of this variation, guidelines for the use
of force are based on many factors, including the officer s level of training or experience.

Ehlers Dalos Syndrome Case Study
Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (Hypermobility Type) Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (Hypermobility Type) is a
genetic connective tissue disorder characterized by joint laxity, velvety skin, joint pain, and other
widespread complications of the body. It can be inherited from a parent with the same faulty gene, or
it can be a newly developed mutation. Connective tissue is infused with collagen protein that provides
strength and elasticity. It is spread abundantly throughout the human body in skin, muscles, tendons,
ligaments, blood vessels, and surrounding the internal organs. In the individual with EDS HT,
abnormal collagen formation in the connective tissue causes the tissue to stretch beyond what is
normal, resulting in damage and other multi systemic problems. Ehler Danlos Syndrome is named for
Edward Ehlers and Henri Alexandria Danlos, two physicians from the early 1900 s. Both published
case studies with patients suffering from common features of joint laxity and skin hyper extensibility
(Gazit et al 1 2). Considered a heritable connective tissue disorder, there is no known cause and
currently no genetic or biochemical testing available for EDS HT. Currently, diagnosis by the medical
professional relies on the ruling out of Marfan Syndrome ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

treatment could help prevent unnecessary long term suffering and possible disability. Due to the
unrecognized nature of EDS, patients are often made to feel discredited and isolated, and should be

  • 2. Reflection Of Samuel Burt And Mixed Signals In Computer Music On October 30th, we had our sixth presentation of this course. We are getting close to the end of the course with two lectures left. The lecturer, this time, was Goucher s computer music professor Samuel Burt, with Lisa Weiss helping him. According to his bio, among his title as a professor, Samuel Burt is a composer. He had a Bachelors of Music from the University of Georgia. Then, he received a Master of Music from Peabody Institute for composition and computer music. He is a member of the High Zero Foundation and has participated in the High Zero Festival. This foundation is a way of showcasing experimental and improvised music in Baltimore. He participated and performed in the Red Room series and the Worlds in Collusion at Artscape. To add to his repertoire, he builds and sells daxophones, which are wooden friction based instruments. He also creates/designs his own electronic music software that we had the chance to experience for ourselves in his lecture. Before the lecture, Burt had been tinkering away at the computer to make sure that everything was perfected beforehand. He then had us introduce ourselves and we all chatted for a bit. Soon, it was time for the main event. First, Burt showed us his composition, Mixed Signals. With the help of Lisa Weiss playing her part on the piano, the computer would take that note, play it back, and delay it. It is time and sound sensitive, so we were instructed to be as quiet as possible, in order for the computer to not pick up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hunter gatherers, were people who hunted for all things, in order to survive, ranging from animal meat, their skin, nuts, fruits and much, much more. When the food on their living area became smaller in quantity and out of season, they would move onto different territory. Our ancestors of hunter gatherers were reported to of lived a very successful lifestyle for more than 100 000 years. Some early Humans even figured out a way to use plants as medicine. Wild fruit that humans found was one of the simplest sources of sugar for early people. Just as we all enjoy a bit of sugar, the early children may of enjoyed eating the sweet, ripe fruit. When people found fruit and brought it back to the camp, they would purposely scatter fruit seeds so that it would of encouraged fruits to grow nearby. Early humans almost hunted anything in sight that climbed, crawled, walked, flew or swam. Animals were a main source of food, which was needed to survive in climates, especially cold climates. That meant that humans had to invent effective weaponry for their hunting, so that they could stay alive. Arrow Points Sharp edges made from stones and bones had been attached to the end of arrows or spears so that it was able to cut through the animals skin. Bow hunting As the Stone Age neared its end, bows began to be invented. They had needed a lot more time and effort to make, but on the upside the hunter didn t have to be as close to their prey as they did with spears, this way was a much safer to ... He was the true meaning of the word fanatic when it came to politics and he had been a politician at an earlier time in his life also. He believed with every fiber in his body that Puerto Rico should become the fifty first state of the United States. My father passed away not seen his dream come true. In Puerto Rico, political parties are associated to the three status choices. There is the New Progressive Party that supports statehood, also the Popular Democratic Party for the commonwealth status and the Puerto Rican Independence Party that prefers as it s name state, independence. • 7. George Orwell s Emphasis Of The Two Minutes Hate The Reason Behind George Orwell s Emphasis of the Two Minutes Hate Many technological advancements have been made throughout the years, and almost all people have access to some form of technology. In 1984 this is also true with technological advancements being made to their television and broadcasting systems. The technological advancements made to these items is the reason for George Orwell including the Two Minutes Hate in his book. He puts a lot of emphasis on this idea in the beginning of the book, but this emphasis is not only to show his predictions for technology. The reason for emphasis of the Two Minutes Hate in 1984 is the timeframe when George Orwell wrote it, and his commentary on the downsides of technology. The time frame that this book was written fits the reason as to why he is so vast in describing technology, as the television was just making its appearance when this book was written (1984). The idea that a television could do all of the things that it does in this book would have been mind blowing to the population. The fact that technology like this was new allowed Orwell to make any prediction that he wanted to without being shot down, because there was no one who would have been able to prove him wrong. The Two Minutes Hate allowed him to express how he felt about technologies future, while still being able to successfully show a totalitarian leader. The timeframe this book was written in is a main component as to why Orwell emphasizes the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For the writers, the way they view home is one of identity and culture. While these two themes are positive the writers show how they get people in trouble with law and day to day life. In the short story borders by Thomas King, the concept of home is illustrated on the focuses on the nationality and identity of a person rather than the place they call home. • 13. The Importance Of Human Evolution Through research it has been determined that evolution is a part of nature, and organisms become more complex over time. As organisms become more complex their characteristics begin to change, and aspects that are beneficial for their survival become prominent in their offspring. However, characteristics that are not beneficial to their survival begins to fade as organism evolve. From this arise Charles Darwin s theory that evolution occurs because of natural selection, expressing that organisms with the best characters will have a higher survival rates and have the ability to pass these characteristics to their offsprings. Branching out from the theory of evolution it is believed that all species have a common ancestor. Depending on how similar and different species are the further back in time they would share a common ancestor. By discovering fossil remains, using radioactive dating, and DNA mutation rates scientist were able to develop a phylogenetic tree. As of right now the phylogenetic tree is extensive, but it is not complete. Human evolution is a prime example of a branch that is still incomplete. By comparing DNA it has been determined that Chimps and Human DNA are 98.8 percent similar, however we are still different species (1). The question that still needs to be answered is who is the common ancestor of Human and Chimps. Recently human ancestry has become clear through the discovery of Ardipithecus ramidus, commonly referred to as Ardi. A group of scientists ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. A Study On Eating Pathology Among Latinas Essay THEORETICAL PROPOSITIONS There is a lack of studies that investigate the eating pathology among Latinas even though there is evidence that a binge eating component (i.e. binge eating disorder, bulimia nervosa) is more prevalent among Latinas compared with other races. For those who are engaged in binge eating tend to have unrealistic high expectations for themselves, which often are difficult to achieve. When the individual, in this case a Latina, has fallen short of these high expectations, they experience negative affect from which she is motivated to binge eat. Dr. Neyland proposed that stressful experiences across three domains of interest: individual, family, and environment. The independent variable of acculturative stress (individual level) is defined as the stress and reduction in health status that one experiences while going under the process of adapting to a different culture. Then for family, there is family disconnection, which is not unique to Latinas but there is a strong emphasis that Latinas place on family relationships. They value it so much that if they experience family disconnection, they would likely be experienced as failure to meet cultural standards. And lastly, there is the environmental factor which is discrimination. Among Latina/os, there is a large amount of reports of discrimination which is believed to have impacted many to have lower self esteem and a significantly slower growth in self esteem over time. He uses an example of class war where those who are concerned with material equality are as obsessed with possession as those on top. On the contrary, if everybody s possessions are functional and personal, then whether someone has somewhat more than another person does not constitute a social problem (Fromm 84). Fromm provides evidence that Marx was an advocate of this idea. One of the good qualities of the book is that Marx s philosophy is explained from the point which people often overlook because of the general negative perception of the Soviet Union as an example of a Marxist Leninist state. Besides, Fromm states that the problem of having and being is a topic that was examined for a long time even before Freud and Marx. He employs the theological motifs of Christianity and Judaism. He gives an example of Moses, who led his people into the desert, where they were free from possession and could fully appreciate the joy of being. In the Christian tradition, Jesus acts for the sake of all people while, at the same time, he has nothing material. Such appreciation of the Jewish and Christian traditions can be explained by Fromm s personal background. He was born into an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. The Realization Of Doublethink In 1984 By George Orwell IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH is one of the party s key phrases. This means that having uneducated, oblivious people, contributes to the power of the party. The citizens of Oceania must believe everything the government tells them in order to be controlled. People who refuse to believe these lies, or try to let people know the truth, are considered enemies of the party. This is considered thoughtcrime, and anyone who is found guilty is subject to vaporization , and will never be seen again. In 1984, George Orwell uses characterization of the protagonists, Winston and Julia, and plot to explain how in a society built upon countless lies, it is a crime to think or spread the truth. The character construction of Winston Smith is based around his thoughts of truth and conspiracy. He tries to practice doublethink, but is often unsuccessful. If you want to keep a secret, you must also hide it from yourself. (Orwell 283). This is a thought of Winston Smith near the end of the book. This describes the thought process of doublethink, and how one must hide their true thoughts from themself. When Winston is done being tortured, he begins to hide the truth from himself. Life, if you looked about you, bore no resemblance not only to the lies that streamed out of the telescreens, but even to the ideals that the Party was trying to achieve. (Orwell 74). Winston has this thought while considering whether the proles could ever rebel. This passage is a description of the contrast ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Respect for women is precisely what is lacking in modern Indian society yet Mother India , Mother Ganga and a multitude of goddesses are all apparent symbols of respect to the female gender. We in the west may ask, why the Indian government isn t legislating to control crimes against women, however there are already many laws in place to protect women, on par with laws found in developed countries. For example, The Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, an act to prohibit the giving or taking of dowry, dowry being the amount of money or property brought by a bride to her husband on their marriage, The Married Woman s Property Act, 1874 and The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. Despite 44 laws targeted towards the protection of women, crime rate statistics show that women are still very much at risk, evidenced by the Thomson Reuters Trust Law indicator which ranked India as the worst G20 country in which to be a woman and the fact that one woman in India dies every hour because of dowry related crimes, reported in 2013 by LifeNews.com. There isn t a simple explanation as to why the laws are being broken, ignored, and have failed to be upheld in court. One of the theaters that they had was the Globe Theater. Even though the Globe Theater was destined for failure, it became successful due to Shakespeare and the support of the Royal Monarch. Before understanding Shakespeare and his impact on the Globe you have to know a little bit of information on plays and prediction in the Renaissance time period. In evaluating the target audience, gym participants are not found to be price sensitive, generally. Rather, they are value conscious and tend to place a high emphasis on quality in evaluating the membership cost. People have various motives in joining a gym including socializing, recreation, taking shape, losing weight, or health requirements. Because of the intangible nature of the gym experience and health related matters, people do tend to be more value conscious than price sensitive. He grew up in an Augustinian brotherhood and he learned agricultural training with basic education. He then went on to the Olmutz Philosophical Institute and later entered the Augustinian Monastery in 1843. This hypothesis can be divided into four main ideas. The first idea is that alternative versions of genes account for variations in inherited characters. Different alleles will create different variations in inherited characters. The second idea is that for each character, an organism inherits two genes, one for each parent. So that means that a homologous loci may have matching alleles, as in the true breeding plants of Mendel s P generation (parental). If the alleles differ, then there will be F hybrids. The third idea states that if the two alleles differ, the recessive allele will have no affect on the organism s appearance. So an F hybrid plant that has purple flowers, the dominant allele will be the purple color allele and the recessive allele would be the white color allele. The idea is that the two genes for each character segregate during gamete production. Independent assortment states that each member of a pair of homologous chromosome segregates during meiosis independently of the members of other pairs so that alleles carried on different chromosomes are different distributed randomly to the gametes. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Mendel s work was not recognized right away as an important scientific breakthrough. Rhetorical Analysis of The Truman Show What I aim to do with this rhetorical analysis is bring forth to the reader a deeply immersive look at the rhetorical concepts present in the film The Truman Show. It is important for a viewer to fully understand the underlying messages and subtle undertones in between the lines, so to speak. The Truman Show is one man s life being played out in a closed environment for the entertainment of the outside world. Most important to note, Truman Burbank has no clue that his whole life has been little more than just a television program produced on a grand scale to produce the image of reality in a dome. When searching for self awareness and knowledge outside of the Garden, his behavior is condemned by his God. Without Christof s undying credibility, he would not be allowed to play God. Within the same scope of thinking, Truman has a limited amount of choices he can make. This brings to light the true definition of free will and as to whether there is a true definition to be heard. When given the choices only to walk left or walk right with the absence of the ability to stay put, is choosing one of two inevitable ends really a choice empowered by free will? The logos presented in the film rests with the true nature of Truman s free will, or lack thereof. In a scripted world of thespians and set pieces, all with a certain purpose in mind, how can an individual exist with free will? Truman has decisions thrust upon him and they are driven into him by the guilt he possesses from the death of his father. When Truman confronts his mother with a desire to shake up the status quo, to get out of his snow globe, he is tamed with the simple reminder that he is responsible for his father s death.
