Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
Internal Revenue Service. The federal agency responsible for administering and enforcing the
Treasury Department s revenue laws, through the assessment and collection of taxes, determination of
pension plan qualification, and related activities.
he 1980s saw a revamping of the IRS. A bipartisan commission was made with a few commands,
among them to build client benefit and enhance collections. Congress later sanctioned the Internal
Revenue Service Restructuring and Reform Act of 1998.
As an aftereffect of that Act, the IRS now works under four noteworthy working divisions: Large
Business and International division (LB I), the Small Business/Self Employed (SB/SE) division, the
Wage and Investment (W I) division, and Tax Exempt and Government Entities (TE/GE) division.
Compelling October 1, 2010, the name of the Large and Mid Size Business division changed to the
Large Business and International (LB I) division. The IRS additionally incorporates a criminal law
implementation division (IRS Criminal Investigation Division). While there is some proof that client

The Wasps Analysis
The Wasps is a satirical comedy written in 422 BCE by Aristophanes as the Peloponnesian War was
coming to an end. The playwright s purpose for writing this is to mock the Athenian society at the
time. Because Athens also became a democracy during the 5th century, this comedy is particularly
controversial since during the time it was written, the courts were being severely manipulated and
corrupted by Cleon. In addition to this, there various other conflicts that take place during the time that
this was written. The plot centers around the protagonist Philocleon and his antagonist Misocleon and
uses the popular Athenian democratic ideology to point out its very own flaws. The playwright
criticizes both the judicial conflicts, which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In relation to the metaphor of wasps, the text refers to the house as being netted. It seems that there is
only one door in the home giving it a sense of a dungeon like dwelling. Misocleon sleeps on the roof
and is presumably guarding it in the instance that his father tries to escape from there rather than the
door he is aware of being blocked off. The well intentioned Misocleon, tries to deter his father from
his usual routine of going to the courts to sit on the jury for less than a livable wage. Although his plan
is doomed to fail, he still attempts to save his father from his job as a wage slave who has
unknowingly pledged his allegiance to Cleon, the demagogue. Although Philocleon does escape from
his son s poorly thought out trap, Misocleon does not accept defeat but rather attempts to reason with
his father. The father s willingness to at least debate the issue shows that he is a fair man and is willing
to hear what others have to say. Based on their discussion, the reader can see an obvious gap in
generational understanding of the litigious Athenian democracy. Philocleon is illusioned by his petty
wages and is obsessed with the praise of others and the benefit that come along with his position such
as the affection of his own daughter (600 5). However, Misocleon fires back at his partisan father
explaining that when he takes into account all of the taxes, then the income that he is so prided in, is
nothing but 1/10th of what the city makes. (650 5). He

The 50 Mph M The Story Of Ted Jensen
THE 50 MPH MAN: The Story of Ted Jensen
~
The story of the most EXTRAORDINARY man to ever live starts at the most ORDINARY place: the
bus stop.
25 year old Ted Jensen sat on a rusty bench in the pouring rain, waiting for his bus to come. He was
about to go to a job interview in the city, but his luck would change soon enough.
The dirty old bus came into view, seeming to drive much faster than the speed limit. Ted noticed that
something was wrong, but before he could think of what it was, the bus flew right past him.
This interview was way too important to miss. Ted knew that if he didn t make it on time, his chances
of getting another good job would be slim. He knew what to do. Ted got up and ran as fast as he could

Ted entered the track at full speed, and circled the entire track in less than 20 seconds, speeding past
all other runners so fast, he was barely visible.
Ted stopped at the coach near the bleachers and asked: What was my time? Not looking exhausted at
all. The coach stared at his stopwatch, and seemed very surprised. Only 18.62 seconds! A new record!
The runners heard this and stopped immediately to see exactly who got the record.
I ll bet you re faster than any man alive! The coach announced. I will sign you up for a race in the city
as soon as possible, because that was truly remarkable! Have you ever run in an organized race
before? He asked. Ted shook his head.
You could win yourself a lot of cash this way! Coach replied.
And suddenly, Ted could see his new future in his head. Yes, there would be a bit of money involved,
maybe more than only a bit...
~ Ted bent down at the starting line, as ready as ever, for he d been training for the last three weeks,
after the high school track coach signed him up. There were 7 other adults lined up horizontally next
to him. Hundreds of people were sitting in the bleachers. Not many people had recognized him yet,
but they would be blown away soon enough.

Proper Use Of Force In Law Enforcement
Police officers, also known as law enforcement officers, have the duty to protect our people and
property. They also have the duty and responsibility to enforce the law within their jurisdiction,
maintain order, and assist those within the community. In the course of duty, police officer encounter
with a variety of people, and although most people are willing to cooperate, some people will resist
and that s when the use of force comes in place.
Police officers are authorized to use force under certain circumstances, such as in self defense,
undergoing arrest of an accused individual, and in defense of another person or a victim. These
officers are fully and properly trained regarding the use of force while on duty. According to the
National Institution of Justice law enforcement officers should use only the amount of force necessary

Gj436b Research Paper
So is GJ436b worth the journey to maybe become a second or alternative human home? With current
technology, resources, and knowledge the answer is maybe. It is said that the surface may have rock
and ice but with current technology it is difficult to tell. However, on May 16, 2007 scientists
calculated that GJ436b s diameter is 3.95 +/ 0.35 Earths diameter. These measurements allowed the
scientists to deduce that the planet could sustain exotic ice based on size, mass and location relative to
its star. In describing the location of GJ436b, it orbits its star at a distance of roughly 0.02887 (+/
0.00095) AU. That amounts to less than a tenth of the distance between the Sun and Mercury in our
solar system. This means that the surface temperature is very hot with scientific ... Show more content

A red dwarf star is considered to be a great spot for life because of its potential for long term
habitability. For earth, the habitable zone it resides in lasts only about 7 to 10 billion years. Compare
that to a red dwarf, where a habitable zone can last for for a span almost five times greater than that
for earth. Thus making a red dwarf a good candidate for life to grow, develop and become advanced.
Another point to consider is that many planets orbiting M dwarf, red dwarf stars are highly likely to
have large amounts of water which suggests the idea that there could be many habitable planets
surrounding a red dwarf star. However, red dwarf stars have a few big problems. Due to the low
luminosity of a red dwarf, planets have to be relatively close for it to be in the known habitable zone.
And by being so close, planets face hostile conditions. One condition is the barrage of stellar wind,
which could strip a planets atmosphere. Another is that the planet could be tidally locked, so only one
side would face the star. Lastly, is that red dwarf stars are emit extreme EUV and X ray

The Technological Advancements Of World War II
William Pollard once said, Learning and innovation go hand in hand. The arrogance of success is to
think that what you did yesterday will be sufficient tomorrow. Maybe the generals of World War 1
(WW1) should have been told this when they used cavalry when they were outdated and rifles and
machine guns were the weapons of this war. They found this out the hard way which sparked the time
of technological innovations and changes that was WW1. The three technological innovations I will
write about are machine guns, planes and tanks.
On the one hand, machine guns could be said to be significant because of the extra fire power they
provided on a battlefield. It has been estimated that a machine gun creates the equivalent to anywhere
between 60 to 100 rifles, depending on the source, in one weapon. This gave an army defending a
position a huge advantage over the attacking side and almost certainly prolonged the stalemate as
breaking enemy lines became so difficult as reaching the enemy trench was a near impossible thing to
do with the machine gun firing at the advancing infantry. It has been estimated that around 20% of the
casualties of world war 1 were caused by the machine gun. This figure is very high considering all the
possible causes of death in the battlefields of WW1. What also made the machine gun of WW1
significant was how it affected the future. These early models were the basis of a weapon used in all
areas of the world ever since these first guns were used in WW1.

Short term research program and goals:
1. The first objective is to study the effect of food processing on molecular structure of processed
food. This objective will be achieved through applying detailed molecular structure characterization
studies on food processed under different processing parameters. This objective is aiming fundamental
knowledge on processing effect on food structure with relating food structure to their functionality.
2. The second objective of this research is to apply and validate a new process techniques for the
production of food protein/fiber based nutraceuticals such as microwave treatments as a processing or
pre processing technique to alter the molecular structure of proteins and fibers thereby enhancing their
digestibility and yielding proteins, fibers or hydrolysates, with novel functionality, nutraceutical
benefits and reduced allergenicity. This objective is aiming to determine the range of conditions under
which to obtain the optimum product properties with improved activities as functional ingredients in
food industry inheriting nurtaceutical properties. In this regard, my previous investigations revealed
that microwave is a promising technique that could lead to novel functional ingredients[4, 5].

The Prayer Of The Great Commission
One of the greatest challenges for Christians is to fulfill the commandment of the Great Commission.
Wheeler and Whaley address the issue of worship and evangelism in their book The Great
Commission to Worship, and provide important principles for Christians to help them see the
relationship between worship and evangelism, and how it impacts obedience to the Great
Commission. The following reading reflection will discuss four principles that are important to the
Great Commission, and will apply those principles to current ministry.
Principles
Evangelism is one of the most important aspects of church ministry. The Lord Jesus Christ left
Christians in this world to evangelize the lost. Our eternal purpose is to glorify God in all that we ...

This is the point of worship. God must be honored and exalted. Once Christians have a true
understanding of their purpose to worship God, and to glorify His name, that will lead to them fulfill
the Great Commission. Christians will see the purpose of evangelism once worship is understood.
Worship in the New Testament can be summed up in Jesus Christ. Once Christians see the beauty of
Christ, they will want to share their faith. The pattern of worship is to get away from being busy to
spend time with Christ. This is a major problem for many Christians. We need to spend time with
Christ in prayer and worship if evangelism will be done in a way that honors God. Spending time in
God s Word, in prayer, is essential to being effective for the kingdom of God. Christians can do
nothing without the help of God, so one must spend time with Him in prayer. Daily time should be
spent prayer and worship. Finally, Christians must understand they are servants of Christ. When one
becomes a Christian, we must tell them that they are to be slaves to the Lord Jesus Christ. Usually,
Christians are doing things for the wrong reasons. A Christian should serve Christ not out of duty, but
because they know and understand that they are servants of the most high God.
Application
It is important in ministry to teach how important evangelism is to the life of the church. I used to
teach an evangelism class to equip members of the church to see the importance of evangelism. This

Textual Codes Essay
Possibly one of the most prevalent codes in daily living all across the world is how people dress. The
cloth people choose to cover their bodies with on a day to day basis says a lot about the individual and
about that society. It can serve as a clue to what that person believes morally, what part of the world
they come from, and even a message they are trying to send. According to Daniel Chandler in his
book Semiotics: The Basics, Semioticians seek to identify codes and the tacit rules and constraints
which underlie the production and interpretation of meaning within each code (Chandler 2007: 148).
Chandler goes on to discuss three different types of codes within his book consisting of social codes,
textual codes, and interpretive codes. The variety of styles worn across various cultures reveals
something about the social codes. The textual codes can be seen in how clothing is advertised, and
what this means across the various cultures whether it serves to individualize some or unite others

The History Of Interracial Marriage
Social norms have long been dictated by racism. Prior to the Loving v. Virginia Supreme Court Case
in 1967, it was socially acceptable for certain states to dictate which race of people one could marry
from. For example, in many southern states, it was illegal for a white man to marry a black woman. It
was not until the Loving v. Virginia case reached the Supreme Court in 1966 that the constitutionality
of these laws was considered. The Loving v. Virginia case erupted when Richard and Mildred Loving
were arrested when they returned to their house in Caroline County, Virginia after traveling to
Washington D.C. to get married (Newbeck and Wolfe). Prior to the Supreme Court ruling that laws
preventing interracial marriage were unconstitutional, interracial marriages were extremely rare.
However, after this ruling was made, the popularity of interracial marriages began to slowly climb.
Sadly, despite the increase in popularity, social acceptance of these marriages had not increased until
the last twenty years (Rosentiel).
According to PEW Research, a notorious research company based in Washington D.C., interracial
couples are becoming more widely accepted than they were in 1967. Today, Nearly four in ten adults
say...people marrying someone of a different race is good for society. (Bailik). Although this statistic
may seem low, it is important to remember that the remaining people are not necessarily against
interracial marriage. In fact, Americans today are also less likely to

Essay on Confucianism and Daoism
Confucianism and Daoism Confucian and Daoist views were important for the shaping and
development of mankind in the past. They were views that existed among the eastern Asian countries.
They had both similarities and differences in the way they shaped out self knowledge and self
cultivation. Also there was other outside forces that played a major role in their theories. Nature and
art were said to have helped shape the human race as we know it. Confucianism and Daoism seem to
be complete polar opposites but there are some similarities between the two. One way that they are

Do not be upset, do not be startled; all things will order themselves. (Cleary 39) Rather than disturbing
the balance of nature, or being themselves disturbed by things beyond their control, they allow nature
to take on its own order and find peace in that setting. A difference in self knowledge can be
determined between the two philosophies. Confucianism teaches the idea of spending more time with
society learning everything you can so you can judge good from bad and promote virtue. Daoism
gives a different view of self knowledge. It promotes the belief that there is more to the world than can
be studied. It says that human judgements and teachings can be flawed by lack of understanding the
whole worldly picture. Instead, one should go about life with the concept of wu wei (non purposeful
action) which allows nature to show humans their ideal path . Nature does not play as big of a role in
Confucianism in development as it does for Daoism. Confucianism deals more with your learnings

determined by nature is that Confucius never stated whether man was born good or evil, noting that

The Current Canadian Human Rights Act
Introduction The current Canadian Human Rights Act was issued in 1977 to ensure equal
opportunities for Canadian employees in the working environment. The main goal is to stop
discriminatory practices. According to the Canadian Human Rights Act (1977) itself, these practices
can be based on race, national or ethnic origin, color, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, marital
status, family status, disability or conviction for an offence for which a pardon has been granted or in
respect of which a record suspension has been ordered . Since its issuance date, many discriminatory
practices could be discussed publicly and in case of disagreements aligned by the court. Although, still
today discriminatory practices take part in business life in small and big forms and the problem might
never be fully solved. Therefore, this essay discusses the function of the Act, its benefits and
consequences for Canadian employees and employers and gives examples from past legal cases. It

who are criminals, that end up losing their lives through capital punishment.
Throughout The Two Fisherman story, there was a lot of mixed emotions from the characters. In The

things are like watches in one crucial respect: both exhibit design, the universe with everything in it.
Paley thinks that people assume that the universe works for a purpose like the watch does. So, people
would reasonably conclude that the universe has a designer or creator, like the watch does, God.
Although, atheists deny that the universe is designed. But, shouldn t there be some knowledgeable or
intelligent creator to guide us towards our purpose to function in life?
In the article, The Five Ways, from Summa Theologica, Thomas Aquinas argues whether God exists,
which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Summary
William Paley found a watch on the ground and assumed that the watch was put together for a
purpose. His arguments, then, lead towards the teleological argument, which starts from relatively
specific observations to the crucial notion of purpose where there is an intelligent cause to the
universe. Paley s whole argument discusses how there must be a maker of the universe since there is a
maker of the watch, which must be God. In contrast, a telescope has a designer, so an eye must also
have a designer,
The end is the same; the means are the same. The purpose in both is alike; the contrivance for
accomplishing that purpose is both alike: The lenses of the telescope, and the humours of the eye bear
a complete resemblance to one another, in their figure their position; and in their power over the rays
of light... How is it possible, under circumstances of such close affinity, and under the operation of
equal evidence, to exclude contrivance from one, yet to acknowledge the proof of contrivance having
been employed, as the plainest and clearest of all propositions in the other?... (Paley, p.30).
If the watch could somehow reproduce, Paley still would not question that the watch still had
originated from some intelligent designer. Like the watch, he thinks the universe also works for a
purpose. Paley proscribes design as foresight, which is connected with purpose, however, the purpose
is not the same as the function. It is said to be

Discussion of the Concept of a Cashless Society and the Assertion that We Will Become One
A cashless society is one of those things that is vastly becoming more popular and is beginning to
replace having to go into a shop for example and pay with money that you have stuffed into your
wallet. With the creation of bankcards paying is now much easier and a lot safer as you now just swipe
your care on special machines assigned to the card and it immediately credits the amount from your
bank it simple. However there has been much controversy over these cares whilst many people believe
the cash card system is less time consuming, easier to use, fits into your wallet can easily be cancelled

You can rent movies for delivery to your home or apartment via Netflix. You can order whole meals

Physical currency ever exchanging hands. Despite all the pros, the rise of a cashless society does have
its cons †nevertheless; the future is portrayed by some experts as being as shiny as the reflection off
your MasterCard. In theory, a cashless society stretches back to the creation of the traveler s check, a
financial tool. Traveler s checks are a safe and important factor in our life for going on holiday.
Traveler s checks mean that money if lost can easily be replaced by attending a local bank and
getting them replaced all traveler s checks are slips of paper which count as your money most shops
accept them and they are very affective. It s not too much of a leap to see consumers swiping debit
and credit cards by the hundreds every day at any number of local eateries, including Subway, mc
Donald s, the crispy cream chain and dozens more. Bank of America issued the first bank related
credit card, BankAmerica (now known as Visa) in 1958 and by the early Sixties; more companies
were offering credit cards as timesaving devices rather than forms of credit.

A Brief Note On Ann Landers, An American Advice Columnist...
Ann Landers, was an American advice columnist and eventually a nation wide media celebrity. A 1978
World Almanac Survey named her the most influential woman in the United States. She had once
mentioned that Television has proved that people will look at anything rather than each other. It means
that people would rather look that a screen than facing towards to people. This reminds me of a time in
my life when I was alone in both freshman and sophomore years. There were any times when I have
nowhere to go for lunch. No one really talked to me. It was really dreadful for me. As the years go by I
eventually improve my interaction significantly. Now to the present day, I know why I was like that.
Sense I had some experience with social media and how I see my older cousins change over the time.
It turned out that I was antisocial, I eventually notice that I don t really open up. I don t really got out
of my comfort zone. That was my problem in school, but in my older cousins case. It was going the
opposite direction, on what I have notice, we all have different interpretations on how we view certain
things, and I think thats is the major cause on why we don t have that type of connection, with each
other. But what doesn t make sense to me is that we are family we should be able to communicate with
each other without judging our differences, but that was just my own perspective on what family
should be. Anyway, I will do my best to find a way to get to know my cousins once

Sizwe Bansi Demonstrates the Imperative for the Black...
Sizwe Bansi demonstrates the imperative for the black person in South Africa to be an actor to present
an enforcedly acceptable mask to his or her white masters (crow). Discuss the relationship between
acting and identity in two plays on the course.
Identity and acting are massive themes within both Sizwe Bansi Is Dead and Death And The Kings
Horseman. In both plays, the black people are enforced by the whites to behave in a certain way. Some
do this In order to live an easy life or for other reasons such as survival or to provide for there
families, but some resist by retaining there cultural values, or revolting. But the relationship between

Also, In Death And The Kings Horseman, it shows that Elusin see s Pilkings as a white man who stole
his first born son Olunde and rather than say educate him, he says so you could turn him into
something of your own image (Soyinka 1998, 68). Which is an important statement to show the black
feeling towards the white man and what they are doing to the black man. This statement shows that
Elusin thinks that, the white man is not educating or showing the black man new things and culture,
but they are turning them into an image. The word image is important as it could mean that they are
turning into them into a copy or a non real version. As an image isn t the actual thing, this could be
interpreted as that the white man is instilling a false identity on the black man, making them act in a
certain way. It symbolises that Elusin who is a leader so he speaks for his followers, believes that the
white culture being instilled on the black culture is not a real form of identity, so ultimately the blacks
are also disregarding the whites as an actual identity. So it could be argued that here in what Elusin
states shows an opinion much like the whites on the black identity and culture. I speak about culture as
identity as it seems that within both plays, ones own culture and heritage is there identity. For example
Sizwe Bansi inherited his name and is reluctant to lose it, and in Death and The Kings Horseman,

Lynching In African American History
Losing power can take a toll on the mentality of men. American history proves this theory frequently
over time. It s most prominent during the time of reconstruction in the form of lynching. Lynching is
termed as a killing organized and performed by a group or mob of people. Some justify it as different
from murder and get away from it. That is complete ideocracy. Lynching is just a subcategory or
another form of murder but not a different crime in itself in my opinion. It was a combination of
sadism and racism that white used to subjugate African Americans because they were afraid to be
equal. For many years, Americans were at the top of the social caste system and something was
coming to ruin the system that has worked to their benefit and it was called African American
progression. African Americans were making a life for themselves and the white man was not having
it. Out of fear, Americans, usually those that felt like they were close to equal to negro status and less
educated, started to use lynching as a way to instill fear into the heart of the Black community. This
did not mean that white Americans wouldn t participate in these celebrations. Together Americans
lynched countless black people and nigger lovers by burning, castrating, and dismembering ... Show

Cold Blood By Truman Capote, A Cold Blooded Killer
Without the basic necessities such as water and sunlight, a flower will not bloom into a beautiful,
colorful creation, but rather wilt into a brown, unrecognizable mess. Just like a flower needs water and
sunlight to thrive, a child requires support from a guardian to prosper in every aspect. A secure support
system t in a child s life creates healthy relationships as well as providing the child with a positive
perspective and mindset. However in the lives of Perry Smith, a cold blooded killer in the novel In
Cold Blood by Truman Capote, child soldiers, and the children of the street, support from the family is
seldom displayed. The absence of support leads these persons to lives filled with hostility and
violence; lives of adversity. This goes to show, the absence of support from a parent figure or family
unit has negative impacts on a child s lifestyle.
Throughout numerous areas around the globe, the reality of children living on the street has become a
significant issue. This problem is mainly due to the family s inability to provide adequate care and
resources for their child, Children end up on the streets for a number of reasons, many of which are
rooted in family instability and poverty, (The Children of the Street). Instead of worrying about what
games to play or who to play with, these adolescents have to worry about what they will eat for the
day or where they will sleep for the night. Children who have ended up on the streets are forced to

Federal Bureau Of Investigations And The Central...
Abstract Upon analyzing 9/11 it was clear to focus on the limitations that the Federal Bureau of
Investigations and the Central Intelligence Agency had faced. Security breaches and poor intelligence
sharing were just some of the critical failures that were encountered. Moreover, the main focus is
pointed towards the miscommunication between these two agencies. Evidently, the execution and
tactical strategies went unnoticed despite the apparent red flags that presented themselves, in addition
to the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Central Intelligence Agency failure to pursue threats
and establish a baseline of security resulted in the disaster of 9/11. In conjunction to these mistakes,

By disregarding cues of possible terrorist attacks and constant mistakes within the American
Intelligence for not planning ahead, the United States failed to achieve its number one goal as a
governing body: not keeping its citizens safe. It is important to dig into the issue of the disaster of 9/11
and completely understand the reason for failed prevention efforts. Moreover adding to these issues
was the lack of communication and information shared between the two agencies, the Federal Bureau
of Investigations and Central Intelligence Agency.
When something tragic, devastating even happens, you remember exactly where you were, who you
were with, what you were doing, and how old you were when it happened. Whether you want to
remember it or not is out of your control. It is tattooed in your brain for good. The moment everyone
in America shares in common is September 11, 2001 when the World Trade Centers were attacked by
19 al Qaeda terrorists. The entire nation went into an immediate state of mourning and panic as they
were discovering the victims of the attacks. Many often asked if there was something that could have
been done to maybe have prevented this from happening. Was there something on the federal side that
could have been done? What else went wrong other than a blatant attack on the United States? When

Analysis Of The Opening Scene Of Kathryn Bigelow s The...
Technically, the opening scene of Kathryn Bigelow s The Hurt Locker is unnecessary. The story doesn
t really start until Jeremy Renner s Sgt. James first arrives ten minutes later. At that point, his
adrenaline based nature and his relationship with the men in his unit become the paramount focus of
the film. However, for what Bigelow is doing, that opening scene is absolutely essential. For the
viewer, this essentially extended TV teaser slams you into the action. Suddenly, you re on the
battlefield, with the men as they perform their highly dangerous job. It s shot in a handheld style,
making it feel as though you re really there, participating and watching. This allows Bigelow to

The result is that Hawks teaches the audience to observe the men at work; his characters do not wear
their emotions on their sleeves. The audience is forced to watch and understand how a character is
feeling (the small worlds Hawks tended to build helped enormously with this as well). He structured
his films around action sequences, using them to bind characters together and to push characters to
their breaking points. In Rio Bravo, the height of Dean Martin s alcoholism is when he fails to
properly perform his job. But he is able to redeem himself in the next action sequence and prove that
he is still of value, to himself and the audience. Hawks cinematic world is subtler than most, but
ultimately powerful.
While it would be perhaps unwise to argue that Kathryn Bigelow is literally Howard Hawks,
reincarnated and regenerated, the resemblances between his techniques and those used in The Hurt
Locker are striking. Bigelow starts off with the same challenge as any filmmaker get the audience
onboard. The opening scene achieves that by throwing the audience straight in. There s no escape; the
viewer becomes part of the small world of the explosive disposal team. After that, Bigelow (and Mark
Boal) waste no time introducing Jeremy Renner s Sgt. James. The reason for this is clear: at its heart,
this is a film about one man s

ultimately ensured the survival of Europeans in North America. Although there are smaller sub

Human Involvement And Human Intervention
Introduction Species in nature have chosen to live and thrive where they are comfortable. From time
to time, unfortunate living conditions or a particular disease wipes out an area, calling for humans to
get involved. Also, humans sometimes lead to the extinction of species, through poaching or the
killing of a certain species. This may also occur when individuals cut down trees and destroy
ecosystems. However, occasionally, human involvement can greatly benefit a certain species of animal

Different types of fertilizers and pesticides have allowed corn to thrive all around the world. Also, the

Essay Skylock in Shakespeare´s Merchant of Venice Villian
One of the earliest idioms taught to students of all ages is Don t judge a book by its cover. Oftentimes,
a quote like that can easily be disregarded, however, it is applicable to people who aren t always who
they seem to be. Shakespeare s play the Merchant of Venice is an outstanding work that contains a
very strange villain in Shylock, who is hated by all, although he has not wronged them in the past.
Thusly, his habits and personality evolved from his interactions with the Venetian populous. By
examining the changes Shylock displays in tone, Shylock the villain s motivations can be seen and
ultimately display that no matter how twisted a person is or may seem, the motivations behind their
actions indicate that innately they have a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This correlates almost directly to how most of the other major characters of Merchant of Venice also
treat him (e.g. Antonio). However, as is with most cases, there are two sides to each story. To
understand the motivation behind Shylock s obsession with money, the beginning of the play has to be
referenced. In Shylock s negotiations with Bassanio and Antonio, Shylock recalls, Signior Antonio,
many a time and oft in the Rialto you have rated me about my moneys and my usances... You call me
misbeliever, cutthroat dog and spet upon my Jewish gabardine... You called me dog; and for these
courtesies I ll lend you thus much moneys? (1.3.104 126). From this passage, Shylock s motivations
are presented clearly. He loathes Antonio for how poorly he has treated him in the past, insulting both
his character and his religion. Therefore, the motivating factor in lending money to Bassanio is so
Shylock has the ability to hold some form of power over Antonio. Therein lies the key to Shylock s
obsession with wealth. In the referenced Venetian culture, Jewish people were persecuted for their
religion and were branded unsavory by the predominantly Christian community. Shylock, being
ridiculed and domineered his whole life by his Christian counterparts, saw an opportunity to finally
even the odds and jumped at it. Shylock clings onto his wealth because it is the only thing that gives
him power in Venetian

When I submitted the lengthy application to the Teton Valley Ranch Camp in Dubois, Wyoming my

John White Roanoke Colony Analysis
Imagine, a small colony of about 110 people peacefully getting settled into their new lives in North
America only to vanish three years later without a trace. This was a reality for John White as the only
thing he came back to in the colony of Roanoke was the word CROATOAN and the mystery of their
disappearance. In 1587, John White and a small band of people set foot on Roanoke Island and formed
a colony. This colony was made up of about 110 English men, women and children, and although
small, they ran through their supplies very quickly. Just a few short months after they had settled,
Governor White hesitantly decided to return to England for much need support and goods, leaving his
family and colonists behind. Unfortunately for him, the day he set sail was the last day he ever saw
them. John White s decision to return to England for supplies was made at a bad time for the country.
Upon his arrival Britain was facing an impending invasion by the Spanish Armada and he found
himself trapped in England because of this crisis. It took two years for the English to defeat the
Spanish Armada, and by the time the fighting was over White set sail, yet again, to return to his
colony. He set foot on Roanoke soil August 18th, 1590, three years after he had left for England. What

signify where they colony may move if they needed to relocate while John White was away.
Unfortunately for him, there were no such signs carved on any of the trees. The only clues he had

Hammett Greed
I believe Hammett is sending a moral message or reminder about the relentless pursuit of wealth.
When Spade discovers that the woman he loves had gunned down his partner, he must put his
allegiance to his moral code above his romantic impulses. Your comrades and your moral code are
more important than your physical gratification. It is a lesson that I believe many of us have
forgottenA very prominent theme within the novel is greed. It is the motivation behind every action in
the story. The three villains, Brigid, Gutman and Cairo consistently seek the riches to be gained from
the falcon. In the process, Brigid murders Spade s partner, while the other two go on a wild goose
chase and end up empty handed. As a result of their hunger for money, Gutman is ... Show more

I believe the author put forth this theme effectively. Hammett depicts the evil of greed by displaying
betrayal, violence and misery that it breedsThe tone of the novel is dark and cynical. Since Hammett
was a real life detective, he had first hand experience on how detectives act and talk. The Maltese
Falcon s full of slang words, and has a sharp rhythm and biting tone in the dialogue. The author s
extensive familiarity with detective work allows him to effectively create an overall dark and cynical
tone. This can be seen in the passage where Hammett is describing different noises: a telephone
ringing in the darkness, bedsprings creaking, fingers fumbling against the wood, something thudding
on the carpet, and finally a man s voice. This detailed description of a series of sounds creates a
feeling of uneasiness and evokes a foreboding feeling that something bad is about to happen.Sam
Spade is a tall, blond, pleasantly satanic looking, hard boiled detective. He is suspected of killing
Thursby along with Miles Archer in order to marry Iva. Miles Archer is Spade s middle aged partner,
who is shot and killed by

Abbot Suger Of St. Denis And The Rise Of Gothic Architecture
Enrio Rico Evangelista
Professor Rui de Sousa
Medieval Civilization Section 11
18 November 2015
Abbot Suger of St. Denis and the Rise of Gothic Architecture Religion has always been a part of our
identity. Today, the population wander around the world seeing these wonderful churches and religious
buildings all around us. The architectural style of the Middle Ages was very prominent: high stone
vaults, internal elevations of multiple stories, rounded arches, and thick walls. This was characterized
as Romanesque architecture. Suger revolutionized everything. He reworked these ideas and
introduced, to the world, what is now known as the Gothic architectural style. Although Gothic
architecture played a prominent role during the Renaissance, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

People were criticizing the new building and was not very keen of the idea of renovation. Suger still
pushed for his project and fulfill his dreams to glorify the church. He began to rebuilt the church in
1137. One of the reasons behind this construction was that he was not contended with the dark and
sinister style of Romanesque architecture. He wanted the church to be an expression of modernity and
enlightenment. (Verdon and Dally 190 191). Suger considered it as modern because it was not heavy
looking and inspiring. His critics, including Bernard of Clairvaux, called it Gothic because it was
unrefined, barbaric and non Roman (Bradbury 295). These criticisms were all wrong because it was
completely renewed and this symbolized the top achievement of the medieval civilization. However,
they were right that it was completely not Roman. This building represented the apex of achievement
because, after centuries of being under the influence of the Roman empire, Suger gave birth to
something new, something extravagant and

  • 3. The Wasps Analysis The Wasps is a satirical comedy written in 422 BCE by Aristophanes as the Peloponnesian War was coming to an end. The playwright s purpose for writing this is to mock the Athenian society at the time. Because Athens also became a democracy during the 5th century, this comedy is particularly controversial since during the time it was written, the courts were being severely manipulated and corrupted by Cleon. In addition to this, there various other conflicts that take place during the time that this was written. The plot centers around the protagonist Philocleon and his antagonist Misocleon and uses the popular Athenian democratic ideology to point out its very own flaws. Misocleon sleeps on the roof and is presumably guarding it in the instance that his father tries to escape from there rather than the door he is aware of being blocked off. The well intentioned Misocleon, tries to deter his father from his usual routine of going to the courts to sit on the jury for less than a livable wage. Although his plan is doomed to fail, he still attempts to save his father from his job as a wage slave who has unknowingly pledged his allegiance to Cleon, the demagogue. Although Philocleon does escape from his son s poorly thought out trap, Misocleon does not accept defeat but rather attempts to reason with his father. The father s willingness to at least debate the issue shows that he is a fair man and is willing to hear what others have to say. Based on their discussion, the reader can see an obvious gap in generational understanding of the litigious Athenian democracy. It is said that the surface may have rock and ice but with current technology it is difficult to tell. However, on May 16, 2007 scientists calculated that GJ436b s diameter is 3.95 +/ 0.35 Earths diameter. In describing the location of GJ436b, it orbits its star at a distance of roughly 0.02887 (+/ 0.00095) AU. However, red dwarf stars have a few big problems. Due to the low luminosity of a red dwarf, planets have to be relatively close for it to be in the known habitable zone. And by being so close, planets face hostile conditions. One condition is the barrage of stellar wind, which could strip a planets atmosphere. • 9. The Technological Advancements Of World War II William Pollard once said, Learning and innovation go hand in hand. The arrogance of success is to think that what you did yesterday will be sufficient tomorrow. Maybe the generals of World War 1 (WW1) should have been told this when they used cavalry when they were outdated and rifles and machine guns were the weapons of this war. They found this out the hard way which sparked the time of technological innovations and changes that was WW1. The three technological innovations I will write about are machine guns, planes and tanks. On the one hand, machine guns could be said to be significant because of the extra fire power they provided on a battlefield. It has been estimated that a machine gun creates the equivalent to anywhere between 60 to 100 rifles, depending on the source, in one weapon. This gave an army defending a position a huge advantage over the attacking side and almost certainly prolonged the stalemate as breaking enemy lines became so difficult as reaching the enemy trench was a near impossible thing to do with the machine gun firing at the advancing infantry. It has been estimated that around 20% of the casualties of world war 1 were caused by the machine gun. This figure is very high considering all the possible causes of death in the battlefields of WW1. What also made the machine gun of WW1 significant was how it affected the future. These early models were the basis of a weapon used in all areas of the world ever since these first guns were used in WW1. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The following reading reflection will discuss four principles that are important to the Great Commission, and will apply those principles to current ministry. Once Christians have a true understanding of their purpose to worship God, and to glorify His name, that will lead to them fulfill the Great Commission. Christians will see the purpose of evangelism once worship is understood. Worship in the New Testament can be summed up in Jesus Christ. Once Christians see the beauty of Christ, they will want to share their faith. The pattern of worship is to get away from being busy to spend time with Christ. This is a major problem for many Christians. We need to spend time with Christ in prayer and worship if evangelism will be done in a way that honors God. Spending time in God s Word, in prayer, is essential to being effective for the kingdom of God. Christians can do nothing without the help of God, so one must spend time with Him in prayer. Daily time should be spent prayer and worship. Finally, Christians must understand they are servants of Christ. When one becomes a Christian, we must tell them that they are to be slaves to the Lord Jesus Christ. Usually, Christians are doing things for the wrong reasons. A Christian should serve Christ not out of duty, but because they know and understand that they are servants of the most high God. Virginia Supreme Court Case in 1967, it was socially acceptable for certain states to dictate which race of people one could marry from. For example, in many southern states, it was illegal for a white man to marry a black woman. It was not until the Loving v. Virginia case reached the Supreme Court in 1966 that the constitutionality of these laws was considered. The Loving v. Virginia case erupted when Richard and Mildred Loving were arrested when they returned to their house in Caroline County, Virginia after traveling to Washington D.C. to get married (Newbeck and Wolfe). Prior to the Supreme Court ruling that laws preventing interracial marriage were unconstitutional, interracial marriages were extremely rare. However, after this ruling was made, the popularity of interracial marriages began to slowly climb. Sadly, despite the increase in popularity, social acceptance of these marriages had not increased until the last twenty years (Rosentiel). Confucianism teaches the idea of spending more time with society learning everything you can so you can judge good from bad and promote virtue. Daoism gives a different view of self knowledge. It promotes the belief that there is more to the world than can be studied. It says that human judgements and teachings can be flawed by lack of understanding the whole worldly picture. Summary William Paley found a watch on the ground and assumed that the watch was put together for a purpose. His arguments, then, lead towards the teleological argument, which starts from relatively specific observations to the crucial notion of purpose where there is an intelligent cause to the universe. Paley s whole argument discusses how there must be a maker of the universe since there is a maker of the watch, which must be God. In contrast, a telescope has a designer, so an eye must also have a designer, The end is the same; the means are the same. The purpose in both is alike; the contrivance for accomplishing that purpose is both alike: The lenses of the telescope, and the humours of the eye bear a complete resemblance to one another, in their figure their position; and in their power over the rays of light... A 1978 World Almanac Survey named her the most influential woman in the United States. She had once mentioned that Television has proved that people will look at anything rather than each other. It means that people would rather look that a screen than facing towards to people. This reminds me of a time in my life when I was alone in both freshman and sophomore years. There were any times when I have nowhere to go for lunch. No one really talked to me. It was really dreadful for me. As the years go by I eventually improve my interaction significantly. Now to the present day, I know why I was like that. Sense I had some experience with social media and how I see my older cousins change over the time. It turned out that I was antisocial, I eventually notice that I don t really open up. I don t really got out of my comfort zone. That was my problem in school, but in my older cousins case. It was going the opposite direction, on what I have notice, we all have different interpretations on how we view certain things, and I think thats is the major cause on why we don t have that type of connection, with each other. Sizwe Bansi demonstrates the imperative for the black person in South Africa to be an actor to present an enforcedly acceptable mask to his or her white masters (crow). Discuss the relationship between acting and identity in two plays on the course. Identity and acting are massive themes within both Sizwe Bansi Is Dead and Death And The Kings Horseman. In both plays, the black people are enforced by the whites to behave in a certain way. Also, In Death And The Kings Horseman, it shows that Elusin see s Pilkings as a white man who stole his first born son Olunde and rather than say educate him, he says so you could turn him into something of your own image (Soyinka 1998, 68). Which is an important statement to show the black feeling towards the white man and what they are doing to the black man. This statement shows that Elusin thinks that, the white man is not educating or showing the black man new things and culture, but they are turning them into an image. The word image is important as it could mean that they are turning into them into a copy or a non real version. As an image isn t the actual thing, this could be interpreted as that the white man is instilling a false identity on the black man, making them act in a certain way. It symbolises that Elusin who is a leader so he speaks for his followers, believes that the white culture being instilled on the black culture is not a real form of identity, so ultimately the blacks are also disregarding the whites as an actual identity. So it could be argued that here in what Elusin states shows an opinion much like the whites on the black identity and culture. I speak about culture as identity as it seems that within both plays, ones own culture and heritage is there identity. For example Sizwe Bansi inherited his name and is reluctant to lose it, and in Death and The Kings Horseman, Olusin commits ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Lynching In African American History Losing power can take a toll on the mentality of men. American history proves this theory frequently over time. It s most prominent during the time of reconstruction in the form of lynching. Lynching is termed as a killing organized and performed by a group or mob of people. Some justify it as different from murder and get away from it. That is complete ideocracy. Lynching is just a subcategory or another form of murder but not a different crime in itself in my opinion. It was a combination of sadism and racism that white used to subjugate African Americans because they were afraid to be equal. For many years, Americans were at the top of the social caste system and something was coming to ruin the system that has worked to their benefit and it was called African American progression. African Americans were making a life for themselves and the white man was not having it. Out of fear, Americans, usually those that felt like they were close to equal to negro status and less educated, started to use lynching as a way to instill fear into the heart of the Black community. This did not mean that white Americans wouldn t participate in these celebrations. Together Americans lynched countless black people and nigger lovers by burning, castrating, and dismembering ... A secure support system t in a child s life creates healthy relationships as well as providing the child with a positive perspective and mindset. However in the lives of Perry Smith, a cold blooded killer in the novel In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, child soldiers, and the children of the street, support from the family is seldom displayed. This goes to show, the absence of support from a parent figure or family unit has negative impacts on a child s lifestyle. Throughout numerous areas around the globe, the reality of children living on the street has become a significant issue. The story doesn t really start until Jeremy Renner s Sgt. James first arrives ten minutes later. At that point, his adrenaline based nature and his relationship with the men in his unit become the paramount focus of the film. However, for what Bigelow is doing, that opening scene is absolutely essential. For the viewer, this essentially extended TV teaser slams you into the action. In Shylock s negotiations with Bassanio and Antonio, Shylock recalls, Signior Antonio, many a time and oft in the Rialto you have rated me about my moneys and my usances... You call me misbeliever, cutthroat dog and spet upon my Jewish gabardine... You called me dog; and for these courtesies I ll lend you thus much moneys? (1.3.104 126). Therefore, the motivating factor in lending money to Bassanio is so Shylock has the ability to hold some form of power over Antonio. Therein lies the key to Shylock s obsession with wealth. In the referenced Venetian culture, Jewish people were persecuted for their religion and were branded unsavory by the predominantly Christian community. He wanted the church to be an expression of modernity and enlightenment. (Verdon and Dally 190 191). Suger considered it as modern because it was not heavy looking and inspiring. His critics, including Bernard of Clairvaux, called it Gothic because it was unrefined, barbaric and non Roman (Bradbury 295).
