Roger Chillingworth Character Traits
Roger Chillingworth, a man who ignored his wife most of the time they were married yet expected her
to love and nourish him, represents true evil and symbolizes revenge, hate, and the devil. During the
beginning of Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel, Roger Chillingworth seems to be a simple and normal
person who lives with the Indians. As time goes on in the novel, Roger Chillingworth s true character
is revealed to the reader. His twisted and deformed shoulders perfectly mirror his corrupt soul. By
demanding to seek revenge, he becomes immensely destructive and unpleasant and he sooner or later
does not recognize who he is anymore. All of the main characters are offered redemption, but
Chillingworth is the only character that shuns it. He quickly lost all of his strength and energy and
died within a year. Chillingworth helps the reader understand that though revenge may feel pleasant, it
will never end with a successful ending. Roger Chillingworth is a character ... Show more content on

Chillingworth sent his wife, who he never acknowledged, to America promising her that he would
meet her there. Instead he went to live with Indians. This shows how Roger Chillingworth is an
untrustworthy man who cannot keep any promises. Roger Chillingworth finally goes to America
where he notices his wife on the scaffold. Hester notices his deformed shoulder, which is a symbol for
Chillingworth s twisted soul, and she recognizes him. Chillingworth realizes that she noticed him and
he acts as if he does not know Hester. This image shows how ashamed Chillingworth was to be Hester
s wife that he had to lie to save himself from embarrassment. While talking to someone in the crowd
about Hester, Chillingworth calls himself foolish for thinking that he could keep a young wife happy.
This shows how he at first felt awful for not being with his wife. Although, Chillingworth changes his
mindset when he finds out that Hester has had an

Wolbachia Research Paper
Wolbachia is a bacterium, which infects nematodes and insects, spiders, and crustaceans, which are
considered arthropods. Although Wolbachia is known to be present within up to 75 % of insect
species, the disease cannot be transmitted to humans or to animals. To have the help of qualified and
intelligent scientist, Armstrong students is participating in this project to give other scientist a helping
hand. Students of Armstrong help scientist determine the extent of Wolbachia because many strains of
Wolbachia exist within the insect population. The order of my insect was Psocoptera. Psocoptera is a
unique insect because I found an insect that was not listed in the key used to determine the order of
insects found in Savannah. The common names of Psocoptera are psocids, barklice or booklice.
Psocoptera generally lives in moist environments beneath stones, under the bark of trees, and plant
litter, which are leaves that have fallen from the ground. They feed on plants, fungi and debris.
Throughout their life cycle, Psocoptera goes through metamorphosis including egg and larval stages
before becoming adults. According to a peer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The scientific process that we used was first defining the problem in order to move on to the next step.
Meaning what is Wolbachia? We had to identify our insect using a key used to find the order of the
insects in Savannah. We eventually learned how to determine the concentration of DNA and protein in
a aqueous solution. Using our solution we did DNA extraction and quantification using our solution
from our previous steps. We used elution, salt, lysis and wash buffer along with EtOH and proteinase
K. After completing DNA extraction and quantification we did our PCR samples were we used a
positive and negative control, no template control and our samples. Lastly we did our gel
electrophoresis where we found whether our insect was positive or negative for

Classroom Setting And Proposed Set Of Classroom Rules
I. Classroom Setting and Proposed Set of Classroom Rules
The classroom setting for the following procedures is a 2nd grade classroom. I will set high
expectations for my students from the first day of school. The learning environment in my classroom
will be warm, open, and fair. The rules proposed for my classroom are as follows:
1. Raise Your Hand Before You Speak
2. Be in Your Seat and Ready to Learn When Lessons Begin
3. Listen When Others Are Speaking
4. Work Quietly and Respect Those Learning Around You
5. Follow Directions The First Time
6. Keep Hands, Feet, and Objects to Yourself
7. Always Use Walking Feet in the Classroom and Hallway

If needed, apologize to any classmate for unkind actions.
Remain seated until Mrs. Hutchcraft dismisses you.
IV. Describe your future classroom procedures for using the drinking fountain.
Students will refer to the hand signal chart posted by the smartboard and the procedure will be as
follows:
Raise your hand and hold up three fingers. (This is easy to remember because it looks like a W for
water.)
Wait for the teacher to respond with the same hand signal while nodding yes or no.
Stop by the door and pick up the water fountain lanyard.
Walk directly to the nearest water fountain and back remembering hallway behavior the entire time.
V. Describe your future classroom procedures for gaining the attention of the whole class.
Attention grabbers or whole brain response is a wonderful way to get your students attention. The
procedure is simple. I will say a phrase, and the students will respond with the corresponding phrase.
These will be taught throughout the first week of school. In order for the system to remain effective, I
will have several cues to rotate. The follow are just a few examples of my favorite.
Class, Class ..... Yes, Yes!
Holy Moly ..... Guacamole!
Macaroni Cheese ..... Everybody Freeze!

High School Drum Research Paper
For the last ten years, drums have been ringing in my ears. When I started I was a little bored out
because I only knew basic beats, until middle school. I don t know how but I got into heavy metal,
with the band named Avenged Sevenfold . The drummer was phenomenal, so I was inspired to get
behind the drumset and learn the songs. So I would consider myself a self taught drummer.
When sophomore year of started, I got into a heavy punk band named Infadel . They didn t care how
old I was, it was the skill they were looking for. A few practices, and I lost interest because it was
repetitive for every song, and I ending up quitting. The reason I loved metal is because the
instrumentals and the melodies, but this band was just power and screaming. Then junior year came,
and the band contacted me and said We found a person who is the same age and skill level as you, you
should meet him, and make your own band and music! So I gave it a shot, and it was great. Except for
the alcohol and drugs which I would always refuse, I told the band I only in for the music. But busy

back as an alumni. Since I always am on most people s case when they play to point things out to
them, the band knows my name, and knows why I love this class. I love to teach younger students so
they can pick up a new hobby and hopefully pursue it. I used to see myself to be a famous drummer in
like a heavy metal band in the future, but I see a brighter future teaching and doing what I love. Music
is what pushes me and entertains me no matter what the genre or style it is. It is a beautiful sight to see

The Working Poor by D. Shipler Essay
The Working Poor The objective of this essay is to illuminate my overall reaction to the reading of
The Working Poor conveying what I do not like while highlighting a sociological perspective, in
addition to explaining if the reading is applicable to my own life experience. Taking notice, the subject
at hand was very sobering alluding even if we ourselves have not been partakers of living in the
obscurity of prosperity between poverty and wellbeing, certainly we have encountered someone that
has become a victim to it. With this in mind, my reaction is there are countless victims of poverty;
surely one does not have to go very far to find them as we understand them to be the working class.

Gun Violence In America
Gun Violence in the United States of America
Every day there is another story in the news about excessive gun violence, accidents with guns
involving children who found loaded guns in the house or unnecessary gun violence by police forces.
Due to the US allowing and making it so easy for citizens to have guns and for their security forces to
shoot without strict rules or consequences, lots of innocent people are killed without having any way
to defend themselves.
ICCPR
US is in violation of their human rights obligations under article 6 of the ICCPR right to life because it
s not protecting the lives of its citizens, it is allowing excessive gun violence (by police forces) and it
has insufficient violations of guns by people who are not even supposed to possess guns. The US is
especially in violation because it fails to control its police department on the use of gun violence.
The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) is an international treaty, which
entered into force 23 March 1976. The United States of America signed the treaty in 1977 and ratified
it in 1992. The main purpose of the ICCPR is to protect human rights, as it protects civil, political,
economic, social and cultural rights. The ICCPR addresses the right to life and that nobody should be
deprived of that right. However, the current gun violence in the United States is taking away the right
to life.
The body who interpreters the ICCPR is the Human Rights Committee, this is laid

Darkness Alternate Ending
In the beginning there was only Darkness. He controlled everything and anything, but nothing at the
same time. There was nothing to control except Darkness: himself. Darkness had a smug grin, a long
black cloak, and the laugh of a villain. He loved the dark and wanted nothing else but for everything to
be dark forever.
There was a voice in his head that crushed his dreams and said, Someone is coming. Your time as sole
ruler has come to an end. Darkness will come to an end.
In that very moment he saw something bright walking toward him. His eyes closed and he used his
hands to shield them from the unfamiliar sensation. He yelled at the light to shut itself off. As the light
got closer, his eyes adjusted and he was able to look at the light. ... Show more content on

wish I could bring them back. Light and Sun, our dear friends... I m sorry for how we treated you. We
need you, Darkness stares at the now dead sphere and a tear falls into it.
At that moment the urn becomes unlocked from its hiding place. Darkness s sudden love has
overpowered and has broken the lock. The urn speaks to him. Darkness you have realised your
mistakes. Sun will come back, but as for me, you have turned me to embers. I cannot return to my
original form. To fix your mistakes, find a way for us to still be together.
Sun returns to Earth and greets Moon with a smile. Moon is ecstatic that Sun his back: he missed his
dear friend. Like children, Sun and Moon started playing an everlasting game of tag around the
sphere. The grass came back and so did all of the animals. Everything was back to the way it was and
beautiful, just like it should be.
Darkness thinks for a second, then notices Sun and Moon chasing each other around the sphere. He
realises what he needs to do. He waits until Moon brings the dark. He takes Light s embers and
sprinkles the shining pieces all over the dark sky. You are the light in my darkness, so I want you to be

Personal Narrative Soccer Team
Soccer is one of my first loves in life, so given the opportunity to pass this love on to someone else I
jumped at the chance. During the spring soccer season of 2016 a competitive U12 girls soccer team
needed a coach, and I jumped at the opportunity. The team consisted of fifteen girls between the ages
of ten and twelve. I ve played soccer for eleven years; in the past, I coached two recreational soccer
teams. Coaching a competitive soccer team was something I figured I was up for the challenge of.
Regular season play went reasonably well, but the highlight of the season was when the team went to
The Yellowstone Cup in Rexburg, Idaho. This is where we had the most growth as a team and where I
learned the most about tactics as a coach.

doubled. Right as the game started, I could see the new formation we worked on in our game against

Changing formations on the fly with young players is extremely difficult. While I was struggling to

the restart, so I could put the team back in its regular formation. We continued to fight for the rest of

so she could no longer play. The trainer that was covering the game said nothing in her knee was torn,

continued until halftime. At halftime we talked about staying calm and passing the ball instead of just
trying to kick it down the middle of the field. Once the game started in the first few minutes we

Difference Between Romeo And Juliet And Pyramus And Thisbe
Some of the greatest writers of all time actually found the start of their best ideas and works from
other artists. William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, for example, used the same archetype that the
Greek writer Ovid used in his short story, Pyramus and Thisbe. In each story, two star crossed lovers
meet against the will of their parents, which soon leads to the pair s demise. However, more than just
the archetypical plot is shared between these two masterpieces. The tragedies of Romeo and Juliet and
Pyramus and Thisbe both have their own representations of lack of communication, misinterpretation,
and impassable obstacles for crucial information. Firstly, the lack of communication was a huge factor
in the deaths of both story s protagonists. In Romeo and Juliet, Balthasar getting to Romeo before
Friar Lawrence s letter, explaining Juliet s death , was a crucial part of the story. This was shown as
Balthasar stated to Romeo, I saw her laid low in her kindred s ... Show more content on

was dead, As he approached the stream, his fears were confirmed upon seeing Thisbe s veil torn and

sorrow. This led to Pyramus stabbing himself soon after. In Romeo and Juliet, the misinterpretation
took place in the Capulet tomb, where Juliet was placed after she drank the contents of the Friar s vial.
After Romeo heard the false news of her death from Balthasar in Mantua, he found her sleeping in the
tomb and assumed she was dead, O my love, my wife! / Death, hath sucked the honey of thy breath...

which lead to their desperate choices and catastrophic ends. However, the misinterpretation of death

how my wife blackmailed me into marrying her, and then decided to ask him about how his
relationship was. It s fine. Smith said briefly. I knew that this wasn t the truth. I stopped walking,
looked him in the eyes, and gave a slight nod to say, Go on. Realizing that he had to keep talking, he

2.) What are the key components to effective parental involvement and outreach when forging

These parents are also more likely to not question their child s educational program, as they may
interpret it as challenging the teacher s authority and professionalism. This lack of understanding can
often be misinterpreted by teachers as a lack of caring about the child s education, when in fact the

parents and educators results in miscommunication and deficit thinking. Since many parents of EBs do

How Do Regulatory Issues Affecting The Healthcare Industry
There can be many dilemmas for organizations that have serious regulatory issues. Organizations can
be fined for even the smallest break in the regulations (Lester Parnell, 2006). When there are major
issues, imagine how high those fines may be. Not only may the fines be costly, but the cost of getting
a company up to the necessary standards can also have a major effect. If the costs outweigh the profit,
a company could potentially shut down. There are a number of agencies that may affect the healthcare
industry such as Joint Commission, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Center for Disease
Control (Immunization of Healthcare Personnel, 2014). All of these have specific guidelines that have

Cooperation Is At The Heart Of Human Social Life Essay
Cooperation is at the heart of human social life. Correspondingly, the study of cooperation or prosocial
behavior, more generally has gained broad attention across scientific disciplines. At large, it is agreed
upon that prosocial behavior takes many forms in everyday encounters and involves several aspects
(e.g., altruism, fairness, reciprocity, trust etc.; Kelley Thibaut, 1978). Complementing this view, recent
research introduced social mindfulness as a concept capturing the idea that prosociality does not only
involve the will to act prosocially, but also the skill to see what others might want in a situation of
interdependence (Van Doesum, Van Lange, Van Lange, 2013; Van Lange Van Doesum, 2015).
Behaving socially mindful hence means to being thoughtful of others in the present moment, and
considering their needs and wishes before making a decision (Van Lange Van Doesum, 2015, p. 18)
for example, leaving the last chocolate cookie on a plate that otherwise only holds coconut cookies. As
such, a socially mindful act ensures that an interaction partner will still have the opportunity to choose
among the options available and maintains control over an individual outcome. Social mindfulness
hence emphasizes the relevance of empathy and perspective taking beyond the willingness to behave
in a cooperative fashion when making outcome choices that affect others. By implication, it
constitutes a basic orientation involving both dispositional and situationally

Forensic Examination Of Forensic Science
Forensic science is defined as science that pertains to law. Forensic science is used during
investigations of a crime scene. Many forensic techniques are used during the investigation of crime
scenes. These techniques are applied to what is considered to be trace evidence. Trace evidence is
evidence left at the scene of the crime that helps tell the story of what had happened and could
possibly lead to a suspect. The reliability of forensic evidence testing is a widely debated topic in the
world of forensic science. The new Gold standard in evidence is DNA analysis, because of its
reliability. Finger printing as well as ballistics are often used but are said to be imperfect compared to
DNA analysis. DNA analysis is deemed the most reliable because it has faced rigorous scientific
experimentation.
Fingerprinting is one of the oldest tool of forensic analysis. Fingerprinting is done by dusting a latent
print with aluminum flakes. This print is then photographed and picked up by clear adhesive tape. This
is where some of the controversy comes in. Fingerprint powders can contaminate the prints and ruin
the opportunity to perform other techniques that could result in more information. Another problem
that arises in the courtroom with fingerprinting is how is it determined that someone has touched that
exact object and how are fingerprint collected by the crime scene investigator. Simon A. Cole, a
Professor of Criminology, Law and Society at Cornell University, says At the

Essay On Why The Voting Age Should Be Abolished
Sweet 16 in North America, it marks the point of transition into adulthood, and it is much the same in
Australia. While 18 is considered the legal age in Australia, 16 year olds have been given many legal
rights, such as learning to drive, being employed, and even being able to leave school. So what about
being able to vote at elections? Following federal Labor leader, Bill Shorten s stance on lowering the
voting age in Australia to 16, I too feel for the need to allow more of the younger population of
Australia to participate in elections, and as Australians, so should you.
Here are the reasons why.
The current minimum voting age, 18, also marks the year of chaos and pressure for many young
Australians. 18 is the time when many complete high school and continue to embark on university,
TAFE or even full time employment. It s the time when many leave home and move to new and
unfamiliar environments, and it is certainly the time when waves of stress that accompany the
beginning of adulthood come crashing in for the first time. With all of the changes occurring in an 18

This can certainly be true for some people in this age group, but definitely not all, and the problem of

voting at elections for years on end, have a lack of political knowledge and show disinterest in this

olds are much more involved in political issues, of which is evident in their complex and heated

The Active Participation Of The People Regarding Political...

Final Examination
The active participation of the people regarding their political culture is paramount to the durability
and vitality of their regime. That is, a population that fosters a positive spirit in support of their
government and ardently engages mutually within it will ultimately support a sturdy democracy.
Furthermore, a democracy standing on the virtues of trust and civic engagement within its people will
be able to stand tall and powerful because it s people will be able to cooperate to essentially get more
accomplished.
To begin, the primary element that defines a strong democracy is social capital. Social capital is
defined as, ...features of social organization, such as trust, norms, and networks, that can improve the
efficiency of society by facilitating coordinated actions, (Putnam 167). Putnam posits a very effective
example concerning social capital: ...a group whose members manifest trustworthiness and place
extensive trust in one another will be able to accomplish much more than a comparable group lacking
that trustworthiness and trust, (Putnam 167). In this example he highlights the importance of a
relationship built around trust and how it lends itself to getting more accomplished.
Through social capital, there is a spontaneous cooperation within the people. Spontaneous cooperation
emphasizes the value of trust, and the importance of being both reliable and honest as a

Unfortunately, most of them that accompanied him died. He was found and fed by Native Americans,
but later on he was put to work as a slave to the tribe. Solnit states He was pared back to nothing, no
language, no clothes, no weapons, no power . (Solnit 68). Cabela and his men were slaves for multiple
tribes. Fellow conquistadors later found him, but he was unrecognizable to them. Cabela De Vaca was
viewed as a savage. Any shred of himself had been lost. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was forced to forget, and lost who he was. When he did return to Spain he couldn t stand to wear
clothes, and slept on the floor for a while. Solnit states that He had lost his greed, his fear, been
stripped of almost everything a human being could lose and live (Solnit 70). Cabela De Vaca was
unrecognizable to his friends. Physically he was almost the same, but mentally he had lost everything
he had learned. This is a great example by Solnit on how someone can become lost. She does tell
another story on a young girl named Eunice Williams whose family was captured by French and
Indian raiders. Her and her brother were adopted by a Penacook chief. Eunice grew accustomed to the
customs of the Native Americans. She married a Native American man and had two children. Her
family though of her as lost. Solnit states The Williams Family never ceased to mourn her loss and to
regard her as spiritually lost as well (Solnit 73). Eunice Williams had become lost forgetting who she
was just like Cabela De Vaca. She was forced to become someone else, and led to her forgetting who

Psychedelic Variation
Many differences exist in individuals as of how one perceives the environment, such as, sensing
different chemicals. Several studies have shown that not every individual has the ability of tasting
phenylthiocarbamide, also known as PTC. PTC was accidentally discovered in 1930 when Arthur Fox
unintentionally released a large quantity of PTC in his laboratory. He noticed that some people could
taste the bitterness of the PTC, while others could not. Bitterness is one of the five tastes a human can
distinguish through taste receptors on the tongue. These receptors serve as a defense mechanism of
possible intakes that may be toxic. The ability to taste bitterness will most likely decrease the
possibility of consuming something that is toxic. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Each human carries two copies of the PTC gene, which whose combination justifies whether the
individual can taste the bitterness or not (Drayna, 2005). There are two alleles of the PTC gene in
which an individual can carry two taster alleles (TT), two non taster alleles (tt), or one of each (Tt).
The allelic variation that detects the PTC tasting is located in over 5 to 7 chromosomes (Bufe, 2005).
Like many others traits, the sensitivity to PTC is hereditary (Suzuki et al., 2010). There are specific
genotypes that determine the individual s ability to taste the bitterness of the PTC. If the bitterness can
be tasted, it means the individual has a dominant allele inherited from either parent (Wooding et al.,
2004). The ability to taste PTC has been widely studied as a Mendelian trait. Surveys have been done
regarding the genetics of taste by classifying the tasters and non tasters of PTC. By analyzing the
statistical results, it was discovered that the ability to taste PTC is dominant. However, this may vary
between men and women. Studies have also shown that women are more sensitive to PTC than men,
therefore, it may be that PTC tasting is related to the levels of dithiotyrosine in the saliva. If only
certain people can taste the chemicals of PTC bitterly, then more women will be able to taste PTC then

Implementation of a Management Production Schedule for...
Realco Breadmaster Company It is very important for a business to have a master production schedule
because it enables companies to determine whether or not it is meeting the demands of production.
Businesses without a master production schedule are at a huge disadvantage compared to businesses
that do have a MPS. For example, a business can have many products in stock but can miss out on its
profits due to the holding cost. Not having a MPS can cause businesses to lack in supply which can
result into customers receiving their products very late. A company known as the Realco Breadmaster
Company has experienced what it is like to be in business without a MPS. Johnny Chang, the owner
of the Realco Breadmaster Company, would like to adopt a MPS for Realco so that the company can
get back on its feet. Here s a sketch of the MPS. Demand Management 1st Week 2nd Week 3rd Week

are up, there will be an abundance of inventory left over.

Essay On Iago
Shakespeare s Iago A depraved soul would generate chaos, inflict pain, and stir up trouble for its own
satisfaction. Iago undoubtedly fits this description seeing that he is a sadist who attains power by
annihilating others in cruel and unusual ways. In William Shakespeare s The Tragedie of Othello, the
Moore of Venice, he is a sinister force which steers virtuous people towards their gruesome deaths.
Furthermore, he is the core focus of this academic essay. Our antagonist is an astounding piece of
work. He obstinately pleads indifference despite dedicating his entire existence for revenge. A more
favorable course of action involves starting over with a clean slate but he couldn t as a result of his
wounded pride. In addition, he is self destructive seeing that he allowed racial hatred to consume him
and become his undoing. Even though he invents elaborate lies to be in control, he claims a reputation
for honesty. He is impassive and callous then again he is a married man who presumably once loved
his wife. He is not only guarded, preferring hiding his inner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For starters, he didn t murder anyone. He simply set in motion a chain of events which led to their
deaths. His competence at manipulation is quite beneficiary but insignificant without Othello s
insecurities about his age, race, and lack of experience with women. Our tragic hero is an eloquent and
physically powerful figure, respected by everyone. In spite of his elevated status, he allowed himself
to be led astray. His trusting nature combined with his jealous, self doubting personality played an
essential role in his downfall. As a matter of fact, his insecurities are so close to the surface that a few
words of hint and innuendo can tear the confident exterior and expose his fears, desires, and tendency
to violence. Every tragic hero has a hand in the tragedy that befalls including

Security Of Database Systems Has Become Very Important Now...
DATABASE SECURITY
Abstract:
Security of database systems has become very important Now a days. As many of the operations now
a days depend on the database systems, security became a problem because of increase in the number
of web applications. If the data is affected in an application, it not only affects that single application
but it affects the entire applications present in that system. Data may be damaged not only from the
outside damages but may be also from inside damages. Hence, we are using some of the data security
techniques like encryption of the data and decryption of the data for keeping the data safe.
Introduction for security of DB:
Security of data mainly concerned with the factors like observation of any of the ... Show more

So, information control is required for the correct flow of data. For the encryption of the data, we use
the cryptographic control.
There are different types of components which provide the data protection in the DBMS. Some such
components are access control and semantic correctness. Secrecy of data is maintained by the access
control. If a person wants to make changes to the data, then it checks for whether the person trying to
change the data is the appropriate user or not by using some of the security points. By these security
points we can say that whether the person can use the data or not.
Secrecy of data can also be maintained by the use of some techniques like encryption which is applied
to the data when transmitted or when stored. Now the problem is how to change or access the
encrypted data. There is a technique called semantic correctness which verifies the semantics of data.
If the semantics are correct data can be accessed. The data is stored in the form of symbols. At the end
we can recover the data and can make sure whether the data is correct and it is available by using of
the recovery system and concurrency control.
Now the research areas are also included in the database security. There are some special techniques
involved in the research part which are order preserving and privacy preserving. The applications
mainly based on the privacy and the correctness of order.
Layers at organization for security:

How Did Isolationist Sentiment Influence US Foreign Policy...
As the United States went through two World Wars between 1914 and 1941, isolationist sentiment had
a large influence on US foreign policy. There were many causes for such isolationist beliefs as the era
included many significant changes. The main change that Americans experienced during this time
period was the immense difference in the decades, with a roaring economy in the 1920s following the
first World War and a Great Depression in the 1930s which would end with the start of the second
World War. With such large changes occurring within the lives of Americans during this entire period
of time, isolationist sentiment rose. As such beliefs became widespread, US foreign policy became
influenced by such isolationism. Isolationism meant that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With such events occurring quickly in such a small time period, the second World War came as a
massive shock. Yet again, Americans called for isolationism and neutrality as they believed America
should focus on ending the Great Depression, not worrying about and dealing with the international
issues of other nations and peoples. By analyzing Document 5, it is clear that many Americans still
believe in isolationism during the Great Depression. Bennett Champ Clark states in his Defense of the
First Neutrality Act that the desire to keep the United States from becoming involved in any war
between foreign nations seems practically unanimous among the rank and file of American citizens.
Americans influenced the US foreign policy yet again as the First Neutrality Act was passed in 1935.
By analyzing Document 6, it is clear that President Franklin D. Roosevelt and the choices he made
were still influenced by isolationist sentiment as he states in his Quarantine Speech that it is my
determination to adopt every practicable measure to avoid involvement in war. However, it is clear in
President Roosevelt s speech that he knew that entering the war was inevitable as he states that the
peace of the world and the welfare and security of every nation, including our own is today being
threatened by that very thing (war). Although the United States tried its best to not enter the second
World War for many years, it could not avoided by the end of 1941. On December 7, 1941, Pearl
Harbor was bombed by the Japanese. The federal government s response to this attack can be analyzed
in Document 7, President Roosevelt s Pearl Harbor Address to the Congress of the United States. In
response to the attack, Roosevelt calls for Congress to declare . . . a state of war has existed between
the United States and the

Stephen King s Insight On Dreams
Stephen King s insight on dreams are all based on personal experiences. King begins by comparing
the functionality of a dream to a mirror I ve always used dreams the way you d use a mirror to look at
something you couldn t see head on . By using this idea of dreams being like mirrors, King is able to
alleviate his writer s block by depicting his dreams directly onto paper. An example would be when
King had already written seven to eight hundred pages of his novel which he could not seem to finish.
Then later reveals how a nightmare provoked the ending, he states how he woke up frightened yet at
the same time relieved he d finished the book. According to King all he had to do at this point was to
take his dream and transfer it to paper. Without a doubt, King s personal experiences can justify why
he believes dreams are a way that people s minds illustrate the nature of their problems. Or maybe
even illustrates the answer to their problem in symbolic language .
After reading Stephen King s essay, it is easy to conclude that his dreams are extremely valuable to his
writing. King makes it clear that he has a consistent writing habit, but an unpredictable though
process. King also believes that a strong writer can dream while awake. He illustrates many example
where he uses dreams to create or finish a novel or film. This approach is random and unpredictable.
An example of his approach would be when he was working on the Salems Lot. King explains how he
relied on a nightmare

The Eu s Hybrid System
Analysts and legal experts have debated on whether the EU should be a considered as a supranational
legal system or an intergovernmental one. However, the current state of the EU is a mixed system, a
hybrid of both supranational and intergovernmental elements. It is an intergovernmental organization
that has supranational characteristics which often results in tension between the principle of national
sovereignty of member states and supranationality of EU law. The EU was established by international
agreements signed by member states therefore once EU legislation is passed, it becomes binding on all
member states; rules can be made in the EU which have a direct impact on the Member States and
thereby also a direct effect on the citizens of the member states. Most disputes about EU primary and
secondary laws are decided by a body with a distinct supranational characteristics, the Court of Justice
of the European Union (CJEU).
This paper will analyse the role of the CJEU in the EU s hybrid system. It beings by outlining its
organization and structure as well as its how its competences has transformed to support a more
federalist role. The second section reviews how the competences of the CJEU has propelled it to make
comprehensive decisions that has pushed it to become more of federal supreme court rather than an
international judicial body. The third section looks at areas of limitations of the CJEU that have
attempted reign in its expansive powers. The paper argues that

Analysis Of The Mayor Of Casterbridge And Ved Vyas s...
CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION
Feministic approach towards a text has developed a multitude of ways to unpack literature in order to
understand its essence. Scholars commonly known as Feminine Critique sought to divorce literary
analysis away from abstract diction based arguments and instead tailored their criticism to more
grounded pieces of literature like plot, characters, and so on and recognize the implicit misogyny of
the structure of the story itself. My paper on The Disparate Treatment of Patriarchy in The Mayor of
Casterbridge and The Mahabharata throws a feministic light in Thomas Hardy s and Ved Vyas s
works. Through my paper I want to particularly highlight the treatment of patriarchy given to the
female protagonists. I want to highlight the different manners of their treatment or response towards
patriarchy and how even their being belonging to different origins and literary periods does not
improve the status of female characters in literature. My work will mainly focus on the take of the
female protagonists in the given situations and the different manners in which they deal with it. I also
want to emphasize the status quo of women in the society that we ve grown out of and in the present
scenario. The paper is entitled The Disparate Treatment of Patriarchy in The Mayor of Casterbridge
and The Mahabharata in which I ve tried to bring into light the different manners of treatment of
patriarchy by the female protagonists in both the aforementioned

Andrew Johnson s Political Impact
The Political Impact of Andrew Johnson s Presidency
Andrew Johnson s leniency towards the rebellious South left the Republican Party in disarray. With
conflicting approaches in regards to Southern Reconstruction, Andrew Johnson and the Republican
Party clashed throughout Johnson s presidency. Johnson would eventually be rejected by both the
Republican and the Democratic parties when his term had ended. This opened an opportunity for
Ulysses S. Grant to run for office, who had little regard for a president s power.

After his election, Cleveland would appoint many Southerners to a number of posts, thus furthering
his relationship with southern states. Due to his success in office and his publicity, Cleveland brought
the Democratic Party back into relevancy. Although Cleveland failed in his first attempt to be re
elected, due to his proposal of lowering tariffs, he would later win his second election, being the first
president to be re elected in non consecutive terms.
The Social Impact of Benjamin Harrison s Presidency
With the push to transition into a bimetallic standard, Benjamin Harrison finally acted upon this
request by signing the Sherman Silver Purchase Act, which would significantly raise the price of
silver. While this act appealed to the popular opinion, the shift towards a bimetallic standard brought
forth a panic that could only be ended by repealing the Sherman Silver Purchase Act.
The Social Impact of Grover Cleveland s Second Term in Office
Grover Cleveland s hands off approach in office did little to help the nation during the economic

The Original Ancient Olympic Games Essay
The original ancient Olympic Games can be followed back to 776 B.C although per Homer s Iliad
they may have existed as early as the twelfth century BC. The Games proceeded for twelve centuries
and were devoted to Olympian deities. Olympia turned into the site of these memorable ancient
Olympic games that scattered the seeds for the most desired global sporting events of current times,
the Modern Olympics. The location of the Ancient Olympics is situated in the western piece of
Peloponnese. As per Greek mythology, Peloponnese is the island of Pelops, the Founder of the
Olympic Games. The Ancient Olympic Games were sustained until 393 A.D when Emperor
Theodosius I of Rome discontinued them. There were not any Olympic games for fifteen hundred
years before they were resurrected in 1896 in the city of Athens. The man in charge of its resurrection
was a Frenchman named Baron Pierre de Coubertin, who introduced the thought in 1894. His
innovative idea was to uncover the present day Games in 1900 in his local Paris, however appoints
from 34 nations were so captivated with the idea that they persuaded him to move the Games up to
1896 and have Athens serve as the main host.
The antiquated Olympic Games started, when Koroibos, a cook from the close by city of Elis, won the
stadium race, a foot race 600 feet long. This was the only athletic competition of the Olympics for the
initial 13 Olympic games or until 724 BC. The Olympic Games, initially originated to respect Zeus,

Antifa s Anti-Capitalist Movement

as a domestic terrorist organization, specifically stating that the movement is inciting violence. I don t
see this movement as a threat but rather they are just protestors extremely upset with who we have in

dislike authority. Only a small percentage of them are actually committing crimes such as vandalism
and assault. The problem with this movement

Cultural Identity And Identity
The Sociological Imagination contrived by C. Wright Mills defines that every individual is deeply
connected to society as a whole, thus we are all in turn shaped and affected by society. One s personal
problems is not just a personal matter, but rather a societal one. (Mills, 1959) When I look at my life, I
think that it is clear to see that my personality and circumstances have been influenced by social
constructs. Being a second generation Canadian with a biracial background, my life has been shaped
in its own unique way. Growing up in a multicultural family, it has been quite difficult to find my own
cultural identity. This can be identified as an individual s own problem, however, by using the
sociological imagination you can see ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I had lots of opportunities to see how someone s cultural background can affect his or her social class.
For example, my mother who comes from once a socialist country still believes that you are not
supposed to show off. For her jewelry, car or latest cell phone seems to be on the bottom of the
priority list. On the other hand, my father, who comes from a previously communist country that
seems to be currently following capitalist values and trends, would love to have an expensive car or a
latest cell phone and camera because all these things, in his belief, show one s social status. From my
earliest childhood I witnessed their conflicts and arguments about what we needed for the household.
This further created the idea of separate identities for myself one leaning more towards the Chinese
side and culture and the other towards the western philosophies and ways.
Religion
Another area that was quite confusing when I was growing up was religion. Both my parents, being
from socialist/communist countries do not have any religious background. I remember my mother
saying that my grandmother was a teacher, therefore they were not able to celebrate Christmas. They
could decorate their Christmas tree after December 25th to celebrate New Year. However, since I was
a young child we were celebrating lots of different holidays, among others both Catholic and
Orthodox Christmas (my

  • 2. Roger Chillingworth Character Traits Roger Chillingworth, a man who ignored his wife most of the time they were married yet expected her to love and nourish him, represents true evil and symbolizes revenge, hate, and the devil. During the beginning of Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel, Roger Chillingworth seems to be a simple and normal person who lives with the Indians. As time goes on in the novel, Roger Chillingworth s true character is revealed to the reader. His twisted and deformed shoulders perfectly mirror his corrupt soul. By demanding to seek revenge, he becomes immensely destructive and unpleasant and he sooner or later does not recognize who he is anymore. All of the main characters are offered redemption, but Chillingworth is the only character that shuns it. He quickly lost all of his strength and energy and died within a year. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chillingworth sent his wife, who he never acknowledged, to America promising her that he would meet her there. Instead he went to live with Indians. This shows how Roger Chillingworth is an untrustworthy man who cannot keep any promises. Roger Chillingworth finally goes to America where he notices his wife on the scaffold. Hester notices his deformed shoulder, which is a symbol for Chillingworth s twisted soul, and she recognizes him. Chillingworth realizes that she noticed him and he acts as if he does not know Hester. This image shows how ashamed Chillingworth was to be Hester s wife that he had to lie to save himself from embarrassment. While talking to someone in the crowd about Hester, Chillingworth calls himself foolish for thinking that he could keep a young wife happy. This shows how he at first felt awful for not being with his wife. Although, Chillingworth changes his mindset when he finds out that Hester has had an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Wolbachia Research Paper Wolbachia is a bacterium, which infects nematodes and insects, spiders, and crustaceans, which are considered arthropods. Although Wolbachia is known to be present within up to 75 % of insect species, the disease cannot be transmitted to humans or to animals. To have the help of qualified and intelligent scientist, Armstrong students is participating in this project to give other scientist a helping hand. Students of Armstrong help scientist determine the extent of Wolbachia because many strains of Wolbachia exist within the insect population. The order of my insect was Psocoptera. Psocoptera is a unique insect because I found an insect that was not listed in the key used to determine the order of insects found in Savannah. The common names of Psocoptera are psocids, barklice or booklice. Psocoptera generally lives in moist environments beneath stones, under the bark of trees, and plant litter, which are leaves that have fallen from the ground. They feed on plants, fungi and debris. Throughout their life cycle, Psocoptera goes through metamorphosis including egg and larval stages before becoming adults. According to a peer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The scientific process that we used was first defining the problem in order to move on to the next step. Meaning what is Wolbachia? We had to identify our insect using a key used to find the order of the insects in Savannah. We eventually learned how to determine the concentration of DNA and protein in a aqueous solution. Using our solution we did DNA extraction and quantification using our solution from our previous steps. We used elution, salt, lysis and wash buffer along with EtOH and proteinase K. After completing DNA extraction and quantification we did our PCR samples were we used a positive and negative control, no template control and our samples. Lastly we did our gel electrophoresis where we found whether our insect was positive or negative for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. High School Drum Research Paper For the last ten years, drums have been ringing in my ears. When I started I was a little bored out because I only knew basic beats, until middle school. I don t know how but I got into heavy metal, with the band named Avenged Sevenfold . The drummer was phenomenal, so I was inspired to get behind the drumset and learn the songs. So I would consider myself a self taught drummer. When sophomore year of started, I got into a heavy punk band named Infadel . They didn t care how old I was, it was the skill they were looking for. A few practices, and I lost interest because it was repetitive for every song, and I ending up quitting. The reason I loved metal is because the instrumentals and the melodies, but this band was just power and screaming. Then junior year came, and the band contacted me and said We found a person who is the same age and skill level as you, you should meet him, and make your own band and music! I love to teach younger students so they can pick up a new hobby and hopefully pursue it. I used to see myself to be a famous drummer in like a heavy metal band in the future, but I see a brighter future teaching and doing what I love. Shipler Essay The Working Poor The objective of this essay is to illuminate my overall reaction to the reading of The Working Poor conveying what I do not like while highlighting a sociological perspective, in addition to explaining if the reading is applicable to my own life experience. Taking notice, the subject at hand was very sobering alluding even if we ourselves have not been partakers of living in the obscurity of prosperity between poverty and wellbeing, certainly we have encountered someone that has become a victim to it. With this in mind, my reaction is there are countless victims of poverty; surely one does not have to go very far to find them as we understand them to be the working class. • 9. Gun Violence In America Gun Violence in the United States of America Every day there is another story in the news about excessive gun violence, accidents with guns involving children who found loaded guns in the house or unnecessary gun violence by police forces. Due to the US allowing and making it so easy for citizens to have guns and for their security forces to shoot without strict rules or consequences, lots of innocent people are killed without having any way to defend themselves. ICCPR US is in violation of their human rights obligations under article 6 of the ICCPR right to life because it s not protecting the lives of its citizens, it is allowing excessive gun violence (by police forces) and it has insufficient violations of guns by people who are not even supposed to possess guns. The US is especially in violation because it fails to control its police department on the use of gun violence. The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) is an international treaty, which entered into force 23 March 1976. The United States of America signed the treaty in 1977 and ratified it in 1992. The main purpose of the ICCPR is to protect human rights, as it protects civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights. The ICCPR addresses the right to life and that nobody should be deprived of that right. However, the current gun violence in the United States is taking away the right to life. There was a voice in his head that crushed his dreams and said, Someone is coming. Your time as sole ruler has come to an end. Darkness will come to an end. In that very moment he saw something bright walking toward him. His eyes closed and he used his hands to shield them from the unfamiliar sensation. He yelled at the light to shut itself off. • 11. Personal Narrative Soccer Team Soccer is one of my first loves in life, so given the opportunity to pass this love on to someone else I jumped at the chance. During the spring soccer season of 2016 a competitive U12 girls soccer team needed a coach, and I jumped at the opportunity. The team consisted of fifteen girls between the ages of ten and twelve. I ve played soccer for eleven years; in the past, I coached two recreational soccer teams. Coaching a competitive soccer team was something I figured I was up for the challenge of. You could feel the energy on the field, it was contagious. After warm ups the referees had us line up and walk onto the field and face the crowd, so our fans could take pictures of us. Once the referee blew the whistle and the game started the intensity instantly doubled. Right as the game started, I could see the new formation we worked on in our game against Bridger valley that morning wasn t going to work. The Pocatello players were penetrating our defense. Changing formations on the fly with young players is extremely difficult. While I was struggling to get the team to understand what I wanted them to do, Pocatello scored. I did a couple substitutions at the restart, so I could put the team back in its regular formation. We continued to fight for the rest of the half, but we just couldn t get any shots in the net. Right before the half ended one of my speedy outside defenders collided with another player and went down. Her knee popped and hurt to walk on, so she could no longer play. The trainer that was covering the game said nothing in her knee was torn, but it probably would be best if she didn t continue to play. • 12. Difference Between Romeo And Juliet And Pyramus And Thisbe Some of the greatest writers of all time actually found the start of their best ideas and works from other artists. William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, for example, used the same archetype that the Greek writer Ovid used in his short story, Pyramus and Thisbe. In each story, two star crossed lovers meet against the will of their parents, which soon leads to the pair s demise. However, more than just the archetypical plot is shared between these two masterpieces. The tragedies of Romeo and Juliet and Pyramus and Thisbe both have their own representations of lack of communication, misinterpretation, and impassable obstacles for crucial information. Firstly, the lack of communication was a huge factor in the deaths of both story s protagonists. In Romeo and Juliet, Balthasar getting to Romeo before Friar Lawrence s letter, explaining Juliet s death , was a crucial part of the story. In Romeo and Juliet, the misinterpretation took place in the Capulet tomb, where Juliet was placed after she drank the contents of the Friar s vial. After Romeo heard the false news of her death from Balthasar in Mantua, he found her sleeping in the tomb and assumed she was dead, O my love, my wife! / Death, hath sucked the honey of thy breath... • 16. Cooperation Is At The Heart Of Human Social Life Essay Cooperation is at the heart of human social life. Correspondingly, the study of cooperation or prosocial behavior, more generally has gained broad attention across scientific disciplines. At large, it is agreed upon that prosocial behavior takes many forms in everyday encounters and involves several aspects (e.g., altruism, fairness, reciprocity, trust etc.; Kelley Thibaut, 1978). Complementing this view, recent research introduced social mindfulness as a concept capturing the idea that prosociality does not only involve the will to act prosocially, but also the skill to see what others might want in a situation of interdependence (Van Doesum, Van Lange, Van Lange, 2013; Van Lange Van Doesum, 2015). Behaving socially mindful hence means to being thoughtful of others in the present moment, and considering their needs and wishes before making a decision (Van Lange Van Doesum, 2015, p. 18) for example, leaving the last chocolate cookie on a plate that otherwise only holds coconut cookies. As such, a socially mindful act ensures that an interaction partner will still have the opportunity to choose among the options available and maintains control over an individual outcome. Social mindfulness hence emphasizes the relevance of empathy and perspective taking beyond the willingness to behave in a cooperative fashion when making outcome choices that affect others. By implication, it constitutes a basic orientation involving both dispositional and situationally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many forensic techniques are used during the investigation of crime scenes. These techniques are applied to what is considered to be trace evidence. Trace evidence is evidence left at the scene of the crime that helps tell the story of what had happened and could possibly lead to a suspect. The reliability of forensic evidence testing is a widely debated topic in the world of forensic science. The new Gold standard in evidence is DNA analysis, because of its reliability. Finger printing as well as ballistics are often used but are said to be imperfect compared to DNA analysis. DNA analysis is deemed the most reliable because it has faced rigorous scientific experimentation. Fingerprinting is one of the oldest tool of forensic analysis. Fingerprinting is done by dusting a latent print with aluminum flakes. This print is then photographed and picked up by clear adhesive tape. This is where some of the controversy comes in. Fingerprint powders can contaminate the prints and ruin the opportunity to perform other techniques that could result in more information. Another problem that arises in the courtroom with fingerprinting is how is it determined that someone has touched that exact object and how are fingerprint collected by the crime scene investigator. While 18 is considered the legal age in Australia, 16 year olds have been given many legal rights, such as learning to drive, being employed, and even being able to leave school. So what about being able to vote at elections? Following federal Labor leader, Bill Shorten s stance on lowering the voting age in Australia to 16, I too feel for the need to allow more of the younger population of Australia to participate in elections, and as Australians, so should you. Here are the reasons why. The current minimum voting age, 18, also marks the year of chaos and pressure for many young Australians. 18 is the time when many complete high school and continue to embark on university, TAFE or even full time employment. It s the time when many leave home and move to new and unfamiliar environments, and it is certainly the time when waves of stress that accompany the beginning of adulthood come crashing in for the first time. Furthermore, a democracy standing on the virtues of trust and civic engagement within its people will be able to stand tall and powerful because it s people will be able to cooperate to essentially get more accomplished. To begin, the primary element that defines a strong democracy is social capital. Social capital is defined as, ...features of social organization, such as trust, norms, and networks, that can improve the efficiency of society by facilitating coordinated actions, (Putnam 167). Putnam posits a very effective example concerning social capital: ...a group whose members manifest trustworthiness and place extensive trust in one another will be able to accomplish much more than a comparable group lacking that trustworthiness and trust, (Putnam 167). PTC was accidentally discovered in 1930 when Arthur Fox unintentionally released a large quantity of PTC in his laboratory. He noticed that some people could taste the bitterness of the PTC, while others could not. Bitterness is one of the five tastes a human can distinguish through taste receptors on the tongue. These receptors serve as a defense mechanism of possible intakes that may be toxic. The ability to taste bitterness will most likely decrease the possibility of consuming something that is toxic. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each human carries two copies of the PTC gene, which whose combination justifies whether the individual can taste the bitterness or not (Drayna, 2005). There are two alleles of the PTC gene in which an individual can carry two taster alleles (TT), two non taster alleles (tt), or one of each (Tt). The allelic variation that detects the PTC tasting is located in over 5 to 7 chromosomes (Bufe, 2005). Like many others traits, the sensitivity to PTC is hereditary (Suzuki et al., 2010). There are specific genotypes that determine the individual s ability to taste the bitterness of the PTC. If the bitterness can be tasted, it means the individual has a dominant allele inherited from either parent (Wooding et al., 2004). The ability to taste PTC has been widely studied as a Mendelian trait. Surveys have been done regarding the genetics of taste by classifying the tasters and non tasters of PTC. By analyzing the statistical results, it was discovered that the ability to taste PTC is dominant. However, this may vary between men and women. Studies have also shown that women are more sensitive to PTC than men, therefore, it may be that PTC tasting is related to the levels of dithiotyrosine in the saliva. There are different types of components which provide the data protection in the DBMS. Some such components are access control and semantic correctness. Secrecy of data is maintained by the access control. If a person wants to make changes to the data, then it checks for whether the person trying to change the data is the appropriate user or not by using some of the security points. By these security points we can say that whether the person can use the data or not. Secrecy of data can also be maintained by the use of some techniques like encryption which is applied to the data when transmitted or when stored. Now the problem is how to change or access the encrypted data. There is a technique called semantic correctness which verifies the semantics of data. If the semantics are correct data can be accessed. The data is stored in the form of symbols. The location of the Ancient Olympics is situated in the western piece of Peloponnese. As per Greek mythology, Peloponnese is the island of Pelops, the Founder of the Olympic Games. The Ancient Olympic Games were sustained until 393 A.D when Emperor Theodosius I of Rome discontinued them. There were not any Olympic games for fifteen hundred years before they were resurrected in 1896 in the city of Athens. The man in charge of its resurrection was a Frenchman named Baron Pierre de Coubertin, who introduced the thought in 1894. His innovative idea was to uncover the present day Games in 1900 in his local Paris, however appoints from 34 nations were so captivated with the idea that they persuaded him to move the Games up to 1896 and have Athens serve as the main host. The antiquated Olympic Games started, when Koroibos, a cook from the close by city of Elis, won the stadium race, a foot race 600 feet long. This was the only athletic competition of the Olympics for the initial 13 Olympic games or until 724 BC. The Olympic Games, initially originated to respect Zeus, were the ... • 33. Antifa s Anti-Capitalist Movement Well done Anthony. Have you heard of the group Antifa? Basically, it s an anti fascist/capitalist movement who are considered the far left in politics; some are considered anarchists, left wing extremists, socialists or communists. I live in the state of New Jersey where they recently listed Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization, specifically stating that the movement is inciting violence. I don t see this movement as a threat but rather they are just protestors extremely upset with who we have in charge as President and strongly believe he is a Fascist. They strongly oppose white supremacy and dislike authority. Only a small percentage of them are actually committing crimes such as vandalism and assault. The problem with this movement ... • 34. Cultural Identity And Identity The Sociological Imagination contrived by C. Wright Mills defines that every individual is deeply connected to society as a whole, thus we are all in turn shaped and affected by society. (Mills, 1959) When I look at my life, I think that it is clear to see that my personality and circumstances have been influenced by social constructs. Being a second generation Canadian with a biracial background, my life has been shaped in its own unique way. Growing up in a multicultural family, it has been quite difficult to find my own cultural identity. This can be identified as an individual s own problem, however, by using the sociological imagination you can see ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I had lots of opportunities to see how someone s cultural background can affect his or her social class. For example, my mother who comes from once a socialist country still believes that you are not supposed to show off. For her jewelry, car or latest cell phone seems to be on the bottom of the priority list. On the other hand, my father, who comes from a previously communist country that seems to be currently following capitalist values and trends, would love to have an expensive car or a latest cell phone and camera because all these things, in his belief, show one s social status. From my earliest childhood I witnessed their conflicts and arguments about what we needed for the household. This further created the idea of separate identities for myself one leaning more towards the Chinese side and culture and the other towards the western philosophies and ways. Religion Another area that was quite confusing when I was growing up was religion. Both my parents, being from socialist/communist countries do not have any religious background. I remember my mother saying that my grandmother was a teacher, therefore they were not able to celebrate Christmas. They could decorate their Christmas tree after December 25th to celebrate New Year. However, since I was a young child we were celebrating lots of different holidays, among others both Catholic and Orthodox Christmas (my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
