Race and Caribbean Culture
Race and Caribbean Culture Each culture is unique in its attitudes about which groups within the
cultural community will comprise the majority and which the minority. The culture also determines
how the minority culture will be treated and how the two groups will be classified. Often,
differentiation of groups is determined by race, rather than things like religion or class. Throughout
literary history, authors have endeavored to capture the past as well as recreate and articulate
sociological inequalities within that past. Issues of race, being one of the primary examples of social
inequality, often appear in controversial and important works of literature. In the Caribbean Sea,
people have had to deal with centuries of racial prejudices and sociological inequity, since the first
explorers arrived on the island and demanded that those with darker skins become the slaves of those
with light skin. Three particular works of literature, Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys, The Kingdom of
This World by Alejo Carpenter, and The Farming of Bones by author Edwidge Danticat have recreated
the historical scenarios of life in the Caribbean during the time of oppression of the native peoples by
white Europeans and shows just how disturbing and destructive attitudes of superiority and inferiority
regarding racial differences can truly be. Perhaps the most famous example of literature regarding
Caribbean oppression is Wide Sargasso Sea, by Jean Rhys. In this novel, a white woman named

Summary Of Lather And Nothing Else By Hernando Tellez
The short story, Lather and Nothing Else by Hernando Tellez, takes readers along, as they view the
struggles that the barber is dealing with. The barber is troubled when he has to make the decision
about whether or not he will kill Captain Torres. The captain and the barber have a troubled
relationship because they work on opposing political parties. The barber imagines all the possible
ways he can murder Captain Torres and the after effects of doing so. On the last shave the barber
makes his decision, and decides not to kill Captain Torres since he is not a murderer. While Captain
Torres is gathering his stuff, we realize the reasons of him coming to the barber is to see if the barber
will actually kill him. Throughout the short story, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The barber is constantly imagining how he could kill the captain, which paints a vivid image in
readers heads. The barber pictures his actions, and this helps him come to the conclusion about killing
the captain. He makes sure to put everything into consideration so he will make no errors. The barber
goes in for the last shave. His Fate hangs on the edge of this razor blade. I can turn my wrist slightly,
put a bit more pressure on the blade, let it sink in. The skin will yield like silk, like rubber, like the
strop. There is nothing more tender than a man s skin, and the blood is always there, ready to burst
forth. A razor like this cannot fail. It is the best one I have. But I don t want to be a murderer. No, sir.
You [are] c[oming] in to be shaved. And I do my work honorably. I don t want to stain my hands with
blood. Just with lather, and nothing else. You are an executioner; I am only a barber. Each one to his
job. That s it. Each one to his job (346). This passage is filled with imagery, and one simile which
helps to discover the theme. The imagery is used to create a picture of what the scene would like like,
if he were to kill the Captain. The similes help to create a more detailed picture of the scene. He
pictures the amount of pressure he will use, and describes how the skin will react using a simile. He
figures that The skin will yield like silk, like rubber, like

The Different Development of the New England, Southern,...
The Different Development of the New England, Southern, and Middle Colonies America was a place
for dreams and new beginnings, until white people arrived in 1607. Three groups sailed over the
treacherous Atlantic from their cruel lives in England to set up peaceful religious colonies. The only
problem is that they attempted to settle in their own way and all failed dismally. The New England,
Middle and Southern Colonies grew differently over the period 1619 1760.Examining the three sets of
colonies will prove that they were all different: socially, economically, politically but not
philosophically. Socially the three groups of colonies developed differently. The New England
Colonies life was dominated by the Puritan religion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The three colonies all wanted to make money but they had to go about it in different ways. This was
mainly due to what they had available. The New England Colonies were mainly agricultural farmers.
With all the water reservoirs like Cape Cod there were plenty of fish so lots of people became
fishermen. There were a lot of lumberjacks to cut down trees and export them to England. The Middle
Colonies were extremely different because they set up extensive cosmopolitan cities reminiscent of
New York. They had many specialists like doctors, lawyers, accountants, and teachers. They traded a
lot with in North America and occasionally overseas. The Southern Colonies primarily depended on
cotton and tobacco plantations. As the plantations grew they had to employ black slaves. The
plantations were fully self contained with their own blacksmith, teachers and professionals. So there
were no big cities or towns. The main plantations traded directly with Europe via the Mississippi. The
three colonies all made money differently with their diverse professions and traders. The three
colonies all had comparable similarities, as they were all democratic. But they ran their democratic
government differently. For instance the New England Colonies was a Theocracy, which meant that
the church controlled the government. The Middle Colonies had their church and government
separate. The Southern Colonies were the most inequitable as they were an Oligarchy. This meant

The Little Albert Experiment By John B. Watson
Throughout psychology we have learned a variety of experiments that have made an impact toward
the field of psychology. One important experiment that was significant in the field was the Little
Albert Experiment by John B. Watson. John B. Watson was a behaviorist where he wanted to conduct
an experiment that further Ivan Pavlov research on classical conditioning. Classical conditioning is a
theory engages a new behavior through the process of association. This theory includes three stages of
classical conditioning; the first stage is called unconditioned stimulus, which produces an
unconditioned response within an organism. One example of this stage is where a perfume is the
unconditioned stimulus, which can create a response of pleasure or desire (unconditioned response).
The second stage is during the conditioning where the conditioned stimulus is presented. The
conditioned stimulus is the stimulus that does not produce any response related to the unconditioned
stimulus. The third stage is what happened after the conditioning, this stage represents the roll of all
three conditioning combined and how it can impact the organism. John B. Watson went more in depth
about classical conditioning where he created his well know experiment involving a child instead of
an animal. Watson s research revolved around an observational method. According to McLeod (2015)
from the simply psychology website, the author says, Participant observation is a variant of the above

Siralos Research Paper
In the beginning, there were four divine beings that ruled the vast cosmos: Etihw, the divine being of
peace; Siralos, the divine being of light and warmth; Liliya, the divine being of beauty;and Elux, the
divine being of purity. Together, the four immortals lived in harmony, all of their needs were fulfilled
as they lived in their respective realms that suit each individual.
Etihw lived in a realm of monochrome, her land devoid of any life aside from her own. She saw it that
there would be no peace if there was life; with life came war, was her statement to the other three.
Siralos lived in a realm of the suns, enjoying the everlasting warmth he had given himself. Though,
with his eternal light, no life could reside in his realm, for no humidity ... Show more content on

Yes, yes! We know that, Eti. How about... Terranian? Liliya wondered, holding a bright pink rose in
his hand.
No! That s too... Blegh! Something like what it represents... Earthen? Elux shrugged at her own
suggestion, jacket hung loosely over her shoulders.
Siralos got another grand idea, almost as good as the idea to create the world. Earth! Yes, Earth! Oh,
Elux, you genius! He praised his sister, who puffed out her chest in pride. Etihw and Liliya hummed in
agreement, nodding at the eldest immortal.
And so, with the agreement, the four called the world Earth, and watched as their creation evolved
into more than what they could even think of, seeing pride in their mortals own creations. They
became filled with pride each time they were reminded of their children s progress, and watched as
new conflicts arose, and die out just as quickly. Though the four knew their creations may never know
of their creator s true existence, they didn t care.
After all, this world was simply a bonding experience like another game of marbles for the immortals,
to entertain themselves for the next few eons. Where was the harm in another round before

The Foreign Policy Strengths For The Privatized Combat Role
Analysis
Strengths
The foreign policy strengths for the privatized combat role includes policy flexibility, force agility, and
reduced political barriers. Policy flexibility is defined as the variety of options available and the scope
in which they can be applied. The resulting collection of choices which may be mapped and compared
to other choices can be referred to as the option space. In the case of the military, some of the policy
options available can include mission types and the variety of roles from non combat to combat. Force
agility is defined as an armed force s scalability, physical mobility, and adaptability. Force agility is
mostly understood as a tactical level capability but the potential to provide agile capabilities can ...

Within Canada, the military attempts to cover a wide range of capabilities and maximize their utility.
Instead, Canada could contract specialized companies as the need arises. For example, should Canada
decided to launch a peacekeeping mission the government could contract a private policing
corporation who specializes in addressing crime. Furthermore, in theory a free market economy would
force competition between security companies which would encourage the most efficient and effective
service to provide the services required by Canada. Force agility is improved with private companies
in mobility, scalability, and adaptability. Mobility is a matter of how forces can be transported and
equipment is deployed. For private military companies, the ability to contract logistical services to
private airlines or shipping companies can far exceed the capabilities of the Canadian military without
the cost of maintenance or the challenges of procurement policies. The ability to scale up and
demobilize forces quickly is important from a policy perspective and was demonstrated by private
military companies in the Iraq conflict. Companies are able to scale up forces more quickly than a
military force because a traditional military has to train and plan for surges before hand. Military
companies, assuming they are not at maximum manpower already, can add or remove troops from a
theatre of operations with

Biblical Violence And Religious Violence
Biblical violence is a difficult subject matter to comprehend, and it may raise questions to those who
read the Old Testament. Some of which include: questioning God s actions and why God is portrayed
engaging in various acts of violence. You can t help but wonder, is biblical violence necessary? There
is evidence of biblical violence can be seen scattered throughout history, in artwork, movies, politics,
and especially various elements of popular culture. There are several arguments for each case ranging
from the bible is too violent to legitimizing biblical violence, most of which are very compelling. I
would like to talk about the legitimization aspect of biblical violence in film by responding to this
article. If you take a look ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Prince of Egypt is an animated adaptation of Exodus, which portrays an artistic rendition of the
life of Moses while still maintaining the integrity of the original story. As an animated Dreamworks
production, this story was targeted towards children, which is nice because it can be very difficult to
explain the concept of violence in the Bible to children. While this film is an adaptation there are
many accurate depictions of Exodus that the movie does address. As mentioned in the article, many of
the violent scenes are depicted with minimalism. The tenth plague for example, At midnight the
LORD smote all the first born in the land of Egypt, from the first born of Pharaoh who sat on his
throne to the first born of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the first born of the cattle
(NRSV Exodus 12:29). A luminescent fog represents the angel of death, and the only element that
alludes to death is seen in the Pharaoh s son. When the fog reaches him, a pot crashes to the floor and
his arm gently falls out of a doorway. Another minimalist indication of death from the tenth plague
comes as the fog passes through their homes of those who s lentils and posts are not marked with lamb
s blood, an exhale is let out. This film also displays maximization, enhancing an existing act of
violence within the Bible (Avalos 2009). In one of the first scenes of The Prince of Egypt, the Hebrew
infanticide ordered by Pharaoh is depicted as guards storm into the

Block Nested Loop Join
1. Abstract:
The project deals with the Block Nested loop Join operation on given relations. In the project, we used
Adventure Works database to demonstrate the results. We observed the execution of the block nested
loop Join. The project also takes into account the technical details of each relations, for example, what
is the tuple size of the relation, what are the total number of blocks allocated for each relation, what
are the number of tuples per block and so on. The algorithm for the Join are detailed and explored.
Also for the algorithm, the best, the worst case is being elaborated. Further, even the available
memory size, allocated memory size, are taken into account while retrieving the tuples from the
relations. The number of Block transfers, and number of I/O seeks required for each relation are
calculated. Finally, these time of each relation in the algorithm are compared to determine the role of
tuples in Block Nested loop join.
2. Implementation:
For the implementation purpose, Adventure Works is used as the database and Java is used for
Programming. Net Beans is used for Java programming and

Sweet Home Short Story Analysis
Sethe s childhood was full of loss and trauma. In her view, What happened to her? [Denver] Hung. By
the time they cut her down nobody could tell whether she had a circle and a cross or not, least of all
me and I did look. [Sethe] (p. 61) This means Sethe was only a little girl when her mother died and
Nan took her in. This demonstrates that Sethe s childhood was tough from the beginning. Another
example of her childhood is, She told Sethe that her mother and Nan were together from the sea. Both
were taken up many times by the crew. She threw them all away but you. (p. 62) Morrison s point is
that Sethe was lucky enough to stay alive and not thrown into the sea. This is important because Sethe

There was something blessed in his manner. Women saw him and wanted to weep (p. 17) This
exemplifies how kind he was when Sethe told Paul D. He could make women let their emotions out
and Paul D. would be there to listen. What is more important, is how kind he was to Sethe when they
were at Sweet Home. Life at Sweet Home was not entertaining especially when schoolteacher arrives
and treats them like real slaves. It follows then how Sethe was treated as a slave and the reason why
she killed her children.
While Sethe was a slave, she made the choice of killing her children in order to protect them. In her
view, It ain t my job to know what s worse. It s my job to know what is and to keep them away from
what I know is terrible. I did that. (p. 165) This means Sethe did not want to know what would happen
if her children were still alive. This demonstrates that Sethe wanted the best for her children and
wanted to kill them so they wouldn t have to go through slavery. Another example of Sethe s
experience as a slave is, Whitegirl. That s what she called it... A chokecherry tree. Trunk, branches,
and even leaves. Tiny little chokecherry leaves. But that was eighteen years ago. Could have cherries
too now for all I know. Morrison s point is that Sethe was beaten so bad, her lashings became infected
and was described as a chokecherry tree. This is important because the tree symbolizes the enduring
strength Sethe went through. According to Paul D., You got two

isolated, as she was living in British Columbia while her family was living in Ontario California. To
make herself feel better, she was self medicating by smoking marijuana, staying up late and generally
not taking good care of herself. Bennett s behavior was becoming increasingly erratic, and her
roommates were really concerned. They called her family to let them know what was going on. So her
sister and mother came to visit her in British Columbia they were hoping to bring her back to Toronto

The Ethical Dilemmas Of Three Others Opinions For Smartphones
3 Others Opinions
(Rebecca Balebako, Abigail Marsh, Jialiu Lin, Jason I. H, Lor, 2014) they are mentioned in a research
done at Carnegie Mellon University, about some interesting findings that may raise a dilemma for
smartphone users who are mostly concerned about their privacy. The result of the survey conducted
from number of app developers says that only a few of them had formal privacy and security training.
When questioned about privacy policies implemented in their apps, one developer said, I haven t even

I totally agree with this statement, as unless an app developer has been properly educated about
privacy guidelines, we cannot totally expect them to follow the code of conducts related to it. Even
that is other authors concern and mine, still developers have the responsibility to develop their
professional knowledge according to the BCS code of conduct 2c and should only publish apps that
give importance to user s privacy. According to IEEE (Florian Pfarr, Thomas Buckel, Axel
Winkelmann, 2014), a specific problem with cloud computing is that countries like China and Iran,
which ignores human rights and deny the remedy, might have access to cloud servers with the intent
of surveillance of prosecution. In addition, cloud service providers in the USA are legally bound by
the patriot act to provide all customer data to the government of the US. The issue raised by these
authors affects smartphone users even without their knowledge as most of the current smartphones are
regularly, keeping backups in the cloud and apps like Google photos automatically upload the photos
to the cloud unless you change the settings otherwise. Even it is not relevant to their countries, above
mentioned governments violate The Data Protection Act 1998 (UK) which upholds a person s right to

I Want For Graduate From Uncg With My Degree
I eventually want to graduate from UNCG with my degree in recreational therapy. I know that once I
do that, then I will be one step closer to accomplishing one of the many goals I have set out to
conquer. Then of course I want to attend graduate school for my program and graduate with my
doctorate in that field but ultimately I would like to be my own boss and have my own physical
therapy practice and facilities etc. I can honestly say I see myself established in my career 5 years
from now and doing what I love of course which is helping others through rehab. The population I
most interested working with in the future is children. Even though they are high in energy and may
be hard for them to consecrate on the activity they are doing, I feel as though they would be the most
fun and easiest group to deal with. I love to see joy I bring in a child life. The satisfaction of being that
individual to make a change in their life or they look up to me as a role model makes me feel like their

Behavioural Change
Theory of Behaviour Change Theories of behavioural change are used during program planning
because they help explain and predict how individuals go through change. Understanding how and
why people change is useful in the selection of program activities and outcomes (Hodges Videto,

plan. This theory describes change at the interpersonal level. This means that the beliefs and actions of
friends, family, peers and co workers can influence why one changes (Hodges Videto, 2011). What is

cognitive theory. The participants underwent a six week cognitive behavioural therapy with the goal of
participant abstinence by the study s conclusion. The study found that participants with lower

who thought the outcome of cannabis use would be negative had a greater chance of abstinence

it is quite different from the program we have planned. This study does describe the participants, and
further, the goal of our program will not be abstinence. Rather, there will be more focus on the social
and environmental aspects of Social Cognitive Theory in our program. Although there are differences
between this study and our program plan it is important to see that other people have used aspects of
Social Cognitive Theory in a program/intervention that dealt with cannabis. This encourages the use

The Unknown Side Of Paradise Analysis
The Unknown Side of This so Called Paradise The novel This Side of Paradise by F. Scott Fitzgerald,
is not merely a love story, but a description of a search for self realization and the ability to fit in
society. The protagonist, Amory Blaine, finds himself falling in love with a woman who is looking for
wealth and social rank, over love. Amory searches to find the truth in himself when all his attempts at
succeeding, whether in his love or academic life fail, and he is left doubting himself due to the actions

The Keller Middle School-Personal Narrative
Ever since this kid was in second grade, he always wanted to be in band. I was there when he heard
the Keller Middle School band play for his school, and even though he didn t get to high five Frosty
the Snowman I knew he was excited. In fact, he was so excited that he threw me off and I was shipped
off to the lost and found for a day, until he got me because there s no doubt he was cold without me.
Anyway, Shane always had his heart set on being in band. The band director, Mr. Maus, had told
everyone to tell him if they wanted to be in band once they got to Bear Creek Intermediate, and that s
exactly what he did. Shane was determined to do exactly what he wanted this time. Shane walked to
Mr. Maus and told him front and center, I want to be in band Mr. Maus! and Mr. Maus replied with
OK, but make sure you put band as your first option when choosing electives in 6th grade. Shane was

replied with There are no more spots for french horn left in the band, so you have to play flute. His
dreams were (half)crushed all because he didn t tell his mom right when he decided. Shane learned an
extremely valuable lesson that day ~ waiting until later to do something almost never worked out in
his favor. Even though he enjoyed playing the flute, he still longs to this day to at least see if he would

Benefits of working in IP teams Benefits of working in IP teams are numerous; you actually have
someone to consult with regarding your patient to establish treatment ideas and how to progress the
patient as much as possible. Also one may have noticed a deficit or skill you didn t, which increases
the ability to treat the patient as a whole. In an IP team, you get to see what other therapist is doing
during their treatment sessions, which will give you ideas to individualize for your own patients to
increase the progress. Also you have new graduates who have new and creative ideas, but you have
the seasoned therapist who can show you tricks of the trade to assist with achieving desired goals.
Working in this setting you have therapist who have different strong points in different areas, therefore
you know who to consult with regards to different conditions or injuries with patients (C.Young,

The Great Epics And Tales
Mythology is one of the most interesting parts of a culture. It reveals customs, history and traditions
like no other. Above all it defines the way of living and reflects the mentality of an entire civilization.
Almost every society in this world has faced sexism in one form or the other. Some societies chose to
fight it and bring a change. On the other hand there are a few societies where sexism became a way of
life. It is instilled in the minds of the people and passed from one generation to another. It is not
questioned. Instead, It is accepted. Can mythology have a role in this acceptance of sexism in a
society? Like everything, blind faith in the great mythological epics also comes with a price. We fail

It is disheartening that on one hand India is coming forward as one of the most progressive nations
when it comes to science and technology while on the other hand choice is still a luxury for the
women of this society.
Sexism in the modern Indian society is a result of centuries of acceptance and ignorance. Particularly
in this society Sexism takes its roots from mythology and ancient tales of the kings and the queens.
The two of the most powerful mythological tales of all time, the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, aid
in the heightened levels of sexism.
When I was a kid, Amar Chitra Katha was my only source of mythological knowledge except some
short and inspiring stories by my grandmother. I never looked at these tales from a point of view as
different as this. But when I come to think of it now, I believe I am enlightened and I feel empowered.
I believe Mahabharata is one of the greatest stories ever told.It is the tale of the five Pandavas and the
one hundred Kauravas , two groups of cousins who fought each other in war to rule the Bharata

Shiloh Literary Analysis
What makes a seemingly normal book a classic? Literary lenses. One of those classic books, Shiloh by
Phyllis Reynolds, shows the reader justice, difficult choices, and allows the reader to discover how it
uses literary lenses to become a classic. By studying the novel through various literary lenses, the
reader can see different perspectives which is important because it brings more depth and dimension,
making Shiloh a children s classic.
Word choice, figures of speech, literary devices, symbols, themes in Shiloh help bring the book to life
(shows new perspectives). Using this lense in text greatly enhances the reader s understanding of the
novel. As stated in Shiloh, [...]but if he wanders off again, I ll whup the daylights out of him .
(Reynolds, 27). This quote vaguely suggests that this takes place in the 1900 s, reminding the reader
that reading in between the lines is key to thoroughly understanding the book. This novel also states,

There is a quote that says, Be careful what you wish for because you might get it all and then

how perfect can sometimes be an illusion. I think Dystopian Literature should be used in storytelling
to give the reader an idea of what places are really like instead of thinking that they are perfect,
straight and narrow.
A dystopia is a futuristic and imagined universe in which oppressive societal control and the illusion
of a perfect society are maintained through corporate, bureaucratic, technological, moral, or

Water Pumps In California
Have you ever felt uncomfortable about not taking a shower for two or more days? Well, for many
Californians that rely on failing water pumps, many of them haven t taken a shower in over two to five
months. Three years of over pumping has caused the water supply in our underground aquifers to
slowly dry up because farmers are pumping more water out than can be replaced by the rain. Now,
because many towns are starting to lose their water due to their reliance on aquifer pumps, legislation
is being considered. But this decision to put a cap on those pumps has many farmers upset, for these
farmers believe that they should have an unlimited access to water. One farmer said that The city folk
are biting the hand that feeds them. But as many farmers believe that they should have unlimited
access to the pumps, many people in the cities that have no water believe that there should be ... Show

That means that the more than 40% of California is supplied by aquifers, that means that there is a lot
of water if it is able to support 40% of California. And if California did pass groundwater regulations,
that means that farmers would have to evenly distribute water or lose a lot of their crops and that
would be bad because then farmers would not produce as many crops, that means less revenue for
California. That is why so many farmers are against the groundwater regulations.
Even though all of these people are against the groundwater regulations, they have to think of the long
term effect of pumping groundwater. If we were to keep pumping groundwater, we would slowly
dwindle down our supply of groundwater, which is one of the reasons that California is such a good
place to farm and grow crops. And the more we pump out groundwater the more California sinks into
the gap left by the water that had been pumped out of the ground. That is why groundwater regulations
are important to the future of

3 Metal Roofs
Overview of 3 Metal Roof Types For Residential Use
If your home needs a brand new roof, you may be researching all of the materials available to you to
narrow it down. While metal can be a popular choice, there are different kinds of metal materials that
have their own pros and cons. Understand the differences so that you can make an informed decision.
Steel Roofing
A common metal material that is available to you is steel. This is because its popularity is often due to
its affordability, while also being a durable material that can withstand flying debris, high winds, and
frozen rain.
Steel roofs can benefit from having a zinc coating applied to them. It helps steel require less

It s cheaper than using copper, but will cost more than using steel. The biggest drawback with
aluminum is that the metal is soft, so it should be avoided in areas that have flying debris or high
winds that cause impact damage to a roof. The material does weigh much less than other metal roofing
materials, so it does tend to be installed faster and easier than copper or steel.
Aluminum will hold up well in climates that have a lot of rain, since the material will not corrode like
other types of metal roofing. You can purchase the material in shingles or sheets, which are usually
painted after they are installed to improve the overall aesthetics of the roofing material. This will
require additional maintenance over the years to give the material another coat of paint.
Copper Roofing
One of the most expensive metal roofing materials will be copper, but many homeowners go with it
because it s unique and beautiful in its appearance on a home. The material is also incredibly durable
with it being hard to damage, and it will not require any maintenance or cleaning after it is installed.
This makes it great for large homes that create difficulties when trying to access the roof.
A unique attribute of copper is how it is a heavy and thick roofing material, and its size won t change
when facing extreme heat in the summer. The material also changes color as it gets older to a green
blue hue, called the patina process, which is an aspect of it that many people like.

hockey were a common occurrence. Hockeyfights.com has said that there has only one fight out of

As a result, it has virtually taken fighting out of the game of hockey. It is unfortunate, but a brain
injury can have a huge impact on the players as well as the families of the players. In one of the
football cases with Paul Oliver, he became uncharacteristically violent towards his family because he
had developed a brain disease known as encephalopathy. While the fans do love hockey fights and it
has served a big role in hockey, the lack of fighting has also made players more honest in the game.
The consequences of fighting such as head injury do not make it worth it. NHL and the players have a
responsibility to protect the integrity of the game. Abdelkader has remained one of the fighters who
keeps it physical on his team. He has stayed willing to fight when needed. Regardless, Abdelkader
says that even if they eliminated fighting in hockey, it would not change the game for him. Fighting in
hockey has remained one of the traditions in the game that has made it so exciting for fans to watch.

Both legislative efforts and consumer efforts alike have a common goal of further restricting alcoholic
beverages. As a result, new regulations are an ongoing possibility.
Challenge: Beer Loses Market Share to Spirits Beer s share of the total US alcoholic beverage market
declined in 2015 for the sixth consecutive year, and for the 12th time in the last 15 years, according to

Cultural Conflict In America
A current cultural conflict taking place in America today is religious. Many Americans discriminate
against the Islamic faith and there have been countless acts of mistreatment of Muslims in the work
place, at school, in public, and in the media. Negative feelings and acts toward Muslims have become
so prevalent that in 1991 the Runnymede Trust Report coined a term for it. The report defined the
unfounded hostility toward Muslims, and therefore fear or dislike of all or most Muslims as
Islamophobia (Defining Islamophobia ). There has always been some religious cultural conflict with
Muslims in the United States, but since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, conflict has escalated significantly.

Many Muslims are Arab and for that reason many people automatically associate Arab, no matter what
their religion, with Islam and violence. Racism is the belief that one racial group is innately superior to
another (Samovar 238). This belief can be expressed in a few different ways. Intense racism is the
belief that all members of a group are inferior (M. Hu, personal communications, November 18th,
2015). Racism can also be symbolic, which entails the belief that the out group interferes with the
culture. This is a worry that some Americans have because they irrationally fear that Muslims are
trying to change the country. Tokenism is a third type of expressing racism and is when people do not
admit that they are racist and even try to act evenly. The final expression of racism is termed arm s
length and is when an individual is nice to the other group of people in some setting, but not others.
Tokenism and arms length racism are probably the most frequently seen in the United States. Many
Americans try to act like that do not view Muslims differently but when you observe their interacts or
hear them speak about Muslims their beliefs tend to be discriminatory or prejudice. There are a few
ways to avoid racism. The first is to be honest with to and analyze your thoughts and belief with a
critical eye to determine if you hold any racist views (Samovar 239).

United States Department Of State
Introduction The United States Department of State classifies 58 different organizations as foreign
terrorist organizations (US DOS). Of those 58 FTOs only one is located in South America, and none
are located in Mexico. Despite the lack of official FTOs in Mexico, non state violence is at an all time
high and the country is more dangerous than ever. This is because of the presence and prevalence of
drug cartels throughout the country. These drug cartels employ violent tactics as part of their drug
trafficking network. But these cartels are more than just criminal organizations. The scope of the
violence, the fear they instill in the population, and the influence they have on policy shows that these
organizations should be considered as more than petty criminals trying to make money. While
economic gain remains one of the main goals of these groups, there is much that falls under the
umbrella of terrorism. Terrorism, while difficult to define, still has a few key features that are mostly
agreed upon. These features will be explored in depth through a discussion of the definition.
Following the definition of terrorism, the paper will examine the cartels in Mexico. Their history, their
goals, and their strategies will all be important for determining whether they should fall under the
umbrella of terrorism. Finally, this paper will argue that the cartels in Mexico display the
characteristics of terror and terrorist organizations and they should be considered and classified

What Are The Unwritten Rules Of The American Dream
Societal expectations and rules are what weigh down the backs of those who try to attain the American
Dream. These unofficial rules exist as a wall between the rich and poor. They apply to the majority of
the American population, and limit the amount of citizens that can live in opulence to a select few. The
remaining population is left with the arduous struggle towards an almost unattainable dream, the
American Dream. These unwritten rules apply to women, immigrants, and those who are not born into
wealth, so generally, most of the U.S. population are subjected to this false promise called the

Tone, Motif and Theme in Night Essay
When people lose their dignity, they also lose a part of the very thing that makes them human.
Despair, hopelessness, fear and apathy are all ways a human can lose their humanity. The eyes provide
a window onto the soul, and thus a view on the person s mental state. The eyes also function in
reverse, as a symbolic gesture of control over someone. All of this is present in Night, by Elie Wiesel,
an account of human tragedy, human cruelty, human dignity, and the loss thereof.

Elie s father loses his strength quickly, his eyes [grew] dim (46) almost immediately after arriving.
The horrors which he had seen were easily enough to crush the spirit of a former community leader.
His disbelief of the horrors he saw questioned the very basis of his soul, and he began to despair. His
father s eyes soon become, veiled with despair (81), as he loses hope for survival. The despair of camp
life shrouds the human within, showing only another cowed prisoner. Elie s father no longer can see
hope, having his vision clouded by cruelty and hate. Elie s father is eventually overwhelmed by
despair; he, would not get up. He knew that it was useless (113). The Nazis crushed his soul, killed his
family, stole his home, and eventually took his life; this treatment destroyed the person inside the
body. He could no longer summon the strength to stay alive, so he gave up, and collapsed.
By the end, the only emotion left among the prisoners is fear. The prisoners desire food more than
anything, two cauldrons of soup are there for the taking, but who would dare? (66). The prisoners are
crushed by the fear of death or pain, and drop their hope and desire, having lost the last vestiges of
humanity. Without their humanity, the only thing that matters to them is satisfaction of bodily
requirements, and the prevention of

Capitalism In America
Capitalism is essentially the economic system in which private owners are able to control industry,
rather than the government. This system fundamentally drives American society and what makes
America particularly attractive to foreigners especially. In a capitalist society, class is not solely based
on birthright, but one has the ability to change his/her class based on income. Ideally, the more income
a person has, the more freedom and power this person is able to exercise. However, business moguls
and government have been known to exploit this fundamental feature of market economy and use it to
their advantage by harboring money (power). But before I put on my tin foil hat and start spewing on
about the government, allow me to ask this question: Where does this system come from? I believe in
order understand the oppressive issues of this system, it s crucial to understand the conditions that
formulated it. It s safe to say that American government is a descendent of English government. The
colonies along the east coast of North America were settled by mostly English settlers in the 17th and
18th centuries. As the English travelled across the Atlantic Ocean, they not only extended the rule of
the English monarchy but also transported their cultural heritage as well. Subsequently, the colonists
revolted against English monarch, King George III, during the American Revolutionary War in the late
18th century. Simply put, colonists felt devalued and exploited by the English

  • 2. Race and Caribbean Culture Race and Caribbean Culture Each culture is unique in its attitudes about which groups within the cultural community will comprise the majority and which the minority. The culture also determines how the minority culture will be treated and how the two groups will be classified. Often, differentiation of groups is determined by race, rather than things like religion or class. Throughout literary history, authors have endeavored to capture the past as well as recreate and articulate sociological inequalities within that past. Issues of race, being one of the primary examples of social inequality, often appear in controversial and important works of literature. In the Caribbean Sea, people have had to deal with centuries of racial prejudices and sociological inequity, since the first explorers arrived on the island and demanded that those with darker skins become the slaves of those with light skin. Three particular works of literature, Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys, The Kingdom of This World by Alejo Carpenter, and The Farming of Bones by author Edwidge Danticat have recreated the historical scenarios of life in the Caribbean during the time of oppression of the native peoples by white Europeans and shows just how disturbing and destructive attitudes of superiority and inferiority regarding racial differences can truly be. Perhaps the most famous example of literature regarding Caribbean oppression is Wide Sargasso Sea, by Jean Rhys. In this novel, a white woman named ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The barber pictures his actions, and this helps him come to the conclusion about killing the captain. He makes sure to put everything into consideration so he will make no errors. The barber goes in for the last shave. His Fate hangs on the edge of this razor blade. I can turn my wrist slightly, put a bit more pressure on the blade, let it sink in. The skin will yield like silk, like rubber, like the strop. There is nothing more tender than a man s skin, and the blood is always there, ready to burst forth. A razor like this cannot fail. It is the best one I have. But I don t want to be a murderer. No, sir. You [are] c[oming] in to be shaved. And I do my work honorably. I don t want to stain my hands with blood. Just with lather, and nothing else. You are an executioner; I am only a barber. Each one to his job. That s it. Each one to his job (346). This passage is filled with imagery, and one simile which helps to discover the theme. The imagery is used to create a picture of what the scene would like like, if he were to kill the Captain. The similes help to create a more detailed picture of the scene. He pictures the amount of pressure he will use, and describes how the skin will react using a simile. • 4. The Different Development of the New England, Southern,... The Different Development of the New England, Southern, and Middle Colonies America was a place for dreams and new beginnings, until white people arrived in 1607. Three groups sailed over the treacherous Atlantic from their cruel lives in England to set up peaceful religious colonies. The only problem is that they attempted to settle in their own way and all failed dismally. The New England, Middle and Southern Colonies grew differently over the period 1619 1760.Examining the three sets of colonies will prove that they were all different: socially, economically, politically but not philosophically. Socially the three groups of colonies developed differently. The New England Colonies life was dominated by the Puritan religion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The three colonies all wanted to make money but they had to go about it in different ways. This was mainly due to what they had available. The New England Colonies were mainly agricultural farmers. With all the water reservoirs like Cape Cod there were plenty of fish so lots of people became fishermen. There were a lot of lumberjacks to cut down trees and export them to England. The Middle Colonies were extremely different because they set up extensive cosmopolitan cities reminiscent of New York. They had many specialists like doctors, lawyers, accountants, and teachers. They traded a lot with in North America and occasionally overseas. The Southern Colonies primarily depended on cotton and tobacco plantations. As the plantations grew they had to employ black slaves. The plantations were fully self contained with their own blacksmith, teachers and professionals. So there were no big cities or towns. The main plantations traded directly with Europe via the Mississippi. The three colonies all made money differently with their diverse professions and traders. The three colonies all had comparable similarities, as they were all democratic. But they ran their democratic government differently. For instance the New England Colonies was a Theocracy, which meant that the church controlled the government. The Middle Colonies had their church and government separate. • 5. The Little Albert Experiment By John B. Watson Throughout psychology we have learned a variety of experiments that have made an impact toward the field of psychology. One important experiment that was significant in the field was the Little Albert Experiment by John B. Watson. John B. Watson was a behaviorist where he wanted to conduct an experiment that further Ivan Pavlov research on classical conditioning. Classical conditioning is a theory engages a new behavior through the process of association. This theory includes three stages of classical conditioning; the first stage is called unconditioned stimulus, which produces an unconditioned response within an organism. One example of this stage is where a perfume is the unconditioned stimulus, which can create a response of pleasure or desire (unconditioned response). The second stage is during the conditioning where the conditioned stimulus is presented. The conditioned stimulus is the stimulus that does not produce any response related to the unconditioned stimulus. The third stage is what happened after the conditioning, this stage represents the roll of all three conditioning combined and how it can impact the organism. John B. Watson went more in depth about classical conditioning where he created his well know experiment involving a child instead of an animal. Watson s research revolved around an observational method. • 6. Siralos Research Paper In the beginning, there were four divine beings that ruled the vast cosmos: Etihw, the divine being of peace; Siralos, the divine being of light and warmth; Liliya, the divine being of beauty;and Elux, the divine being of purity. Together, the four immortals lived in harmony, all of their needs were fulfilled as they lived in their respective realms that suit each individual. Etihw lived in a realm of monochrome, her land devoid of any life aside from her own. She saw it that there would be no peace if there was life; with life came war, was her statement to the other three. Siralos lived in a realm of the suns, enjoying the everlasting warmth he had given himself. Though, with his eternal light, no life could reside in his realm, for no humidity ... Siralos got another grand idea, almost as good as the idea to create the world. Earth! Yes, Earth! Oh, Elux, you genius! He praised his sister, who puffed out her chest in pride. Etihw and Liliya hummed in agreement, nodding at the eldest immortal. And so, with the agreement, the four called the world Earth, and watched as their creation evolved into more than what they could even think of, seeing pride in their mortals own creations. They became filled with pride each time they were reminded of their children s progress, and watched as new conflicts arose, and die out just as quickly. Though the four knew their creations may never know of their creator s true existence, they didn t care. After all, this world was simply a bonding experience like another game of marbles for the immortals, to entertain themselves for the next few eons. Where was the harm in another round before ... Policy flexibility is defined as the variety of options available and the scope in which they can be applied. The resulting collection of choices which may be mapped and compared to other choices can be referred to as the option space. In the case of the military, some of the policy options available can include mission types and the variety of roles from non combat to combat. Force agility is defined as an armed force s scalability, physical mobility, and adaptability. Within Canada, the military attempts to cover a wide range of capabilities and maximize their utility. Instead, Canada could contract specialized companies as the need arises. For example, should Canada decided to launch a peacekeeping mission the government could contract a private policing corporation who specializes in addressing crime. Furthermore, in theory a free market economy would force competition between security companies which would encourage the most efficient and effective service to provide the services required by Canada. Force agility is improved with private companies in mobility, scalability, and adaptability. Mobility is a matter of how forces can be transported and equipment is deployed. For private military companies, the ability to contract logistical services to private airlines or shipping companies can far exceed the capabilities of the Canadian military without the cost of maintenance or the challenges of procurement policies. The ability to scale up and demobilize forces quickly is important from a policy perspective and was demonstrated by private military companies in the Iraq conflict. Companies are able to scale up forces more quickly than a military force because a traditional military has to train and plan for surges before hand. The Prince of Egypt is an animated adaptation of Exodus, which portrays an artistic rendition of the life of Moses while still maintaining the integrity of the original story. As an animated Dreamworks production, this story was targeted towards children, which is nice because it can be very difficult to explain the concept of violence in the Bible to children. While this film is an adaptation there are many accurate depictions of Exodus that the movie does address. As mentioned in the article, many of the violent scenes are depicted with minimalism. The tenth plague for example, At midnight the LORD smote all the first born in the land of Egypt, from the first born of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the first born of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the first born of the cattle (NRSV Exodus 12:29). A luminescent fog represents the angel of death, and the only element that alludes to death is seen in the Pharaoh s son. When the fog reaches him, a pot crashes to the floor and his arm gently falls out of a doorway. Another minimalist indication of death from the tenth plague comes as the fog passes through their homes of those who s lentils and posts are not marked with lamb s blood, an exhale is let out. This film also displays maximization, enhancing an existing act of violence within the Bible (Avalos 2009). Abstract: The project deals with the Block Nested loop Join operation on given relations. In the project, we used Adventure Works database to demonstrate the results. We observed the execution of the block nested loop Join. The project also takes into account the technical details of each relations, for example, what is the tuple size of the relation, what are the total number of blocks allocated for each relation, what are the number of tuples per block and so on. The algorithm for the Join are detailed and explored. Also for the algorithm, the best, the worst case is being elaborated. Further, even the available memory size, allocated memory size, are taken into account while retrieving the tuples from the relations. The number of Block transfers, and number of I/O seeks required for each relation are calculated. Finally, these time of each relation in the algorithm are compared to determine the role of tuples in Block Nested loop join. 2. Implementation: For the implementation purpose, Adventure Works is used as the database and Java is used for Programming. Net Beans is used for Java programming and ... The biggest drawback with aluminum is that the metal is soft, so it should be avoided in areas that have flying debris or high winds that cause impact damage to a roof. The material does weigh much less than other metal roofing materials, so it does tend to be installed faster and easier than copper or steel. Aluminum will hold up well in climates that have a lot of rain, since the material will not corrode like other types of metal roofing. You can purchase the material in shingles or sheets, which are usually painted after they are installed to improve the overall aesthetics of the roofing material. This will require additional maintenance over the years to give the material another coat of paint. Copper Roofing One of the most expensive metal roofing materials will be copper, but many homeowners go with it because it s unique and beautiful in its appearance on a home. The material is also incredibly durable with it being hard to damage, and it will not require any maintenance or cleaning after it is installed. This makes it great for large homes that create difficulties when trying to access the roof. A unique attribute of copper is how it is a heavy and thick roofing material, and its size won t change when facing extreme heat in the summer. The material also changes color as it gets older to a green blue hue, called the patina process, which is an aspect of it that many people like. • 30. Cultural Conflict In America A current cultural conflict taking place in America today is religious. Many Americans discriminate against the Islamic faith and there have been countless acts of mistreatment of Muslims in the work place, at school, in public, and in the media. Negative feelings and acts toward Muslims have become so prevalent that in 1991 the Runnymede Trust Report coined a term for it. The report defined the unfounded hostility toward Muslims, and therefore fear or dislike of all or most Muslims as Islamophobia (Defining Islamophobia ). There has always been some religious cultural conflict with Muslims in the United States, but since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, conflict has escalated significantly. There have been lots of reported incidents and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many Muslims are Arab and for that reason many people automatically associate Arab, no matter what their religion, with Islam and violence. Racism is the belief that one racial group is innately superior to another (Samovar 238). This belief can be expressed in a few different ways. Intense racism is the belief that all members of a group are inferior (M. Hu, personal communications, November 18th, 2015). Racism can also be symbolic, which entails the belief that the out group interferes with the culture. This is a worry that some Americans have because they irrationally fear that Muslims are trying to change the country. Tokenism is a third type of expressing racism and is when people do not admit that they are racist and even try to act evenly. The final expression of racism is termed arm s length and is when an individual is nice to the other group of people in some setting, but not others. Tokenism and arms length racism are probably the most frequently seen in the United States. Many Americans try to act like that do not view Muslims differently but when you observe their interacts or hear them speak about Muslims their beliefs tend to be discriminatory or prejudice. • 31. United States Department Of State Introduction The United States Department of State classifies 58 different organizations as foreign terrorist organizations (US DOS). Of those 58 FTOs only one is located in South America, and none are located in Mexico. Despite the lack of official FTOs in Mexico, non state violence is at an all time high and the country is more dangerous than ever. This is because of the presence and prevalence of drug cartels throughout the country. These drug cartels employ violent tactics as part of their drug trafficking network. But these cartels are more than just criminal organizations. The scope of the violence, the fear they instill in the population, and the influence they have on policy shows that these organizations should be considered as more than petty criminals trying to make money. While economic gain remains one of the main goals of these groups, there is much that falls under the umbrella of terrorism. Terrorism, while difficult to define, still has a few key features that are mostly agreed upon. These features will be explored in depth through a discussion of the definition. Following the definition of terrorism, the paper will examine the cartels in Mexico. Their history, their goals, and their strategies will all be important for determining whether they should fall under the umbrella of terrorism. Finally, this paper will argue that the cartels in Mexico display the characteristics of terror and terrorist organizations and they should be considered and classified ... • 33. Tone, Motif and Theme in Night Essay When people lose their dignity, they also lose a part of the very thing that makes them human. Despair, hopelessness, fear and apathy are all ways a human can lose their humanity. The eyes provide a window onto the soul, and thus a view on the person s mental state. The eyes also function in reverse, as a symbolic gesture of control over someone. All of this is present in Night, by Elie Wiesel, an account of human tragedy, human cruelty, human dignity, and the loss thereof. At the start of the book, the residents of Sighet live relatively happily, oblivious to the approaching storm. The horrors which he had seen were easily enough to crush the spirit of a former community leader. His disbelief of the horrors he saw questioned the very basis of his soul, and he began to despair. His father s eyes soon become, veiled with despair (81), as he loses hope for survival. The despair of camp life shrouds the human within, showing only another cowed prisoner. Elie s father no longer can see hope, having his vision clouded by cruelty and hate. Elie s father is eventually overwhelmed by despair; he, would not get up. He knew that it was useless (113). The Nazis crushed his soul, killed his family, stole his home, and eventually took his life; this treatment destroyed the person inside the body. He could no longer summon the strength to stay alive, so he gave up, and collapsed. By the end, the only emotion left among the prisoners is fear. The prisoners desire food more than anything, two cauldrons of soup are there for the taking, but who would dare? (66). The prisoners are crushed by the fear of death or pain, and drop their hope and desire, having lost the last vestiges of humanity. • 34. Capitalism In America Capitalism is essentially the economic system in which private owners are able to control industry, rather than the government. This system fundamentally drives American society and what makes America particularly attractive to foreigners especially. In a capitalist society, class is not solely based on birthright, but one has the ability to change his/her class based on income. Ideally, the more income a person has, the more freedom and power this person is able to exercise. However, business moguls and government have been known to exploit this fundamental feature of market economy and use it to their advantage by harboring money (power). But before I put on my tin foil hat and start spewing on about the government, allow me to ask this question: Where does this system come from? I believe in order understand the oppressive issues of this system, it s crucial to understand the conditions that formulated it. It s safe to say that American government is a descendent of English government. The colonies along the east coast of North America were settled by mostly English settlers in the 17th and 18th centuries. As the English travelled across the Atlantic Ocean, they not only extended the rule of the English monarchy but also transported their cultural heritage as well. Subsequently, the colonists revolted against English monarch, King George III, during the American Revolutionary War in the late 18th century. Simply put, colonists felt devalued and exploited by the English ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
