The Impact Of Media And Instructional Technology On...
Position paper on the impact of Media and Instructional Technology on Student Learning There have
been many debates, among researchers, in the past on technology and the impact that it has on
learning. However, there is one debate that, after over nearly two decades, is still being discussed to
this day. The debate of Clark Kozma has been of great significance to researchers in the past and
present. As new and improved technology is introduced, many researchers have focused their study on
this debate to prove or disprove the findings of Richard Clark and Robert Kozma. Clark and Kozma
Over thirty years ago, Richard Clark researched the impact of technology on learning. In 1983,
Richard E. Clark published the results of a meta analysis that examined the influence of media on
learning where he concluded that media do not influence learning under any circumstance (Becker,
2010, para. 3). Clark believes that media does not influence learning to any degree. He has stood firm
in his research findings over the past years. Just a few years later, Robert Kozma decided to oppose
Clark s debate and complete his own research to decide if technology had an impact on learning.
Kozma was looking to find out why technology had failed to impact learning. In order to establish a
relationship between media and learning we must first understand why we have failed to establish one
so far (Kozma, 1994, p. 2). Kozma believes that media does influence learning. The Debate

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Inflammatory Bowel Disease ( Ibd )
Introduction: Mr. A (pseudonyms) is a 39 years old male of Indian origin. He is married and lives with
his wife and a five years child. He is full time self employed individual with no known health issues.
Mr. A initially experienced constipation, blood in stool and abdominal pain which prompted Mr. A to
visit his general practitioner (GP). Then he was referred to specialist and went through a series of
medical examinations, blood tests, imaging procedures, and hospital admissions that were required to
eliminate the other possible causes and diseases related to these symptoms. It was awkward and
unpleasant to deal with the symptoms for him. He felt weak and started to lose weight. Eventually, Mr.
A was diagnosed with crohn s disease (CD) a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in 2012. IBD
is a collective group of disorders that are chronic and incurable and characterised by inflammation in
the intestinal tract. (Chang Johnson, 2014, p.446). Crohn s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC)
are autoimmune diseases, where the body attacks the digestive system. Crohn s disease can occur in
any part of the intestine and ulcerative colitis only affects the large intestine (Ministry of Health,
2015). Although the individual susceptibility to develop inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) appears to
be genetically determined, the actual occurrence of the disease is largely influenced by environmental
factors (Lichtenstein Scherl, 2011, p.77).This has been a life changing

Downtown Massillon
On October 14 I attended a New Wave concert in Downtown Massillon. This concert was actually
apart of a larger event called the Massillon Zombie Walk which is held once a year. Most everyone
dressed as a zombie. There was even a man who dressed as a Soviet spy zombie who made my night.
He walked down the sidewalk with an accordion, a hammer and sickle pin, and a giant fur hat. Other
zombies swarmed around him as I realized that I m pretty lucky to live in an area that treasures local
gatherings and celebrations.
The night began with a Thriller performance in front of the Massillon public library. About 20 or so
people performed the iconic dance as Michael Jackson s audio was played. The people who performed
managed to do a really good job recreating the dance moves we all know so well and they looked like
they had fun. The party moved down to the street beside the Massillon Museum where the stage was
waiting. After we arrived New Wave Nation ran onto the stage and performed Thriller again. Sadly the
lead singer of this band could not match MJ s awesome chops. It was cringe. All the high notes
sounded fuzzy and strained. The tempo seemed too slow. There was a tv screen behind them that
actually played the music video which managed to make their dancers incompetent. Weird sound
effects were added to the end of phrases and instruments were played along with the original audio.
I hoped with all my heart that they just hadn t warmed up, that it would get better but this was not

Yes, Mandela
Yes, Mandela
Essay
Nelson Mandela became a legend long before he passed away and to most of the world he is known as
the greatest hero of South Africa. According to the Oxford dictionary a hero is:
1 a person especially a man, who is admired by many people for doing sth brave or good. [...] 3 a
person, especially a man, that you admire because of a particular quality or skill that they have.
There were several political prisoners imprisoned on Robben Island both before, during and after
Mandela served on the island. But why was Mandela the only one to become a living legend?
The poem Yes, Mandela by Dennis Brutus, is a lyrical poem describing the sender s strong emotional
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is crucial to see the poem in a historical and political context to be able understand the imagery and
metaphors used in the poem. Imagery and metaphors are commonly used in poetry, and so it is in
Dennis Brutus Yes, Mandela . Imagery describes the prison years as ...a blanket cobwebbed of pain
and grime. The horrifying description of the prison years is a contrast to the description of Mandela s
appearance when stepping free ...you step free so erectly, so elegantly . The contrast reinforces the
picture of a physical and mentally strong and elegant Mandela. Contrasts are also used later to
underline his strong personality once again ...impress your radiance on the grey morning air . Brutus
describes the sand on the island as harsh, white and treacherous which metaphorically refers to the
apartheid regime. Mandela conducted hard labor during his time on Robben Island, which we see is
referred to in another metaphor describing the sufferings caused by the apartheid. The violent regime
was like jagged rocks and krantzes bladed crevices of racism and deceit , not only to Nelson Mandela
but to all races except the white.
The poem is published in 1991, one year after Mandela s release. The poem is rather short, with only
three stanzas and 20 lines. This is however fairly characteristic for a lyrical poem. It is a lyrical poem
because it doesn t tell a story from beginning to end, but it expresses the speaker s state of mind and
emotions linked

Reflection About Reading
You have to read 10 hours this week said my first grade teacher. In elementary school reading logs
were what all the teachers made us do. Every week I had to read a certain amount of hours. I however,
never read the amount of hours I was supposed too. I would just fill out the log and tell my mom to
sign it. At that time it sounded like a good idea but then came freshman year. Mrs. Daugherty changed
my whole perspective on reading and how important it is to read. In elementary school reading never
came easy too me. My mom would always say The more you read, the better you ll be. but I never
listened to her. Books were just not interesting to me. We would have book fairs in our school library
and I would always ask my grandma to come and buy me a bunch of books, but in reality I never even
read the books that she bought me. I would wonder around the library looking for the perfect book
then once I thought I found one, I would read one chapter then be done with it. Most of the time the
books would just sit in my room until I got a letter from the librarian saying that the book was past
due. Then when I went to return a book, the librarian would always ask How did you like the book?
and I would reply It was great I really enjoyed it! , even though I had never even finished the book. In
Mrs. Daugherty s freshman college prep English class reading was what the majority of the class
consisted of. We were always reading passages and would have to answer questions about

The Truman Show By Peter Weir
For centuries, man has dreamt of constructing pristine simulated worlds , existing in a separate sphere
from our imperfect reality. From the town of Pullman, a company town south of Chicago to Disney
World, attempts to force Utopia have failed, falling prey to the complications of people s personal
desires. The Truman Show, directed by Peter Weir, tells us the story of The Truman Show, an elaborate
reality show built around the control of one man s life. Christof, the director, has created an entire
living city for Truman, the star of his show, and the only one not in on this whole elaborate fakery.
Essentially, Truman is living his life in the simulation of a flawless, archetypal American town, for the
entertainment of millions of viewers around the world. Christof, along with countless others obsessed
with the idea of controlling part of the world to fit their visions of an ideal reality, have deluded
themselves into thinking fictional utopias can exist apart from the undeniable constraints of reality.
Their fundamental flaw lies in relying on the assumptions of psychological behaviorism, and the belief
that they could perfectly condition the behavior of the inhabitants follow the goals of the community.
In order for Christof s scheme to work, Truman must be unaware that he s living in a simulation, and
be satisfied with the simulated life that s presented to him. As much as possible, Christof and his crew
try to control every element of Truman s life. A massive dome is

informative speech presentation. Xao chose to give her speech on Michelle Phan, a YouTuber and an
entrepreneur. When Xao gave her speech, I was focusing on whether she covered all the requirements
on the Speech Evaluation Form that includes Substance Organization, Delivery, and other
Considerations. Xao s informative speech presentation was based on a successful YouTuber and an
entrepreneur who serves as a great inspiration to many young girls and boys, and her name is Michelle

How Did John F Kennedy s Influence On American Culture
During the 1960s, few people were more influential on American culture and values than President
John F. Kennedy. His young and adventurous personality shaped his decisions through his almost
three year presidency. While his presidency was short compared to most, his effect on America is still
felt today. John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born on May 29th, 1917 in Brookline, Massachusetts to
Joseph Patrick Kennedy and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy. He began his political career in 1946, as a
Representative, quickly becoming a Senator, then the President of the United States. During his
campaign, Promised to lead Americans to a New Frontier. He charged that, under the Republicans, the

For example, Congress turned down a cabinet level Department of Urban Affairs and Kennedy s plan
for medical care for the elderly. Johnson, however, later had these passed. Kennedy changed around
the United States s national defense policies and increased conventional weapons. He wanted to
prepare for a non nuclear war and wanted to avoid a nuclear exchange. In his own words, Now in the
thermonuclear age any misjudgements on either side about the intentions of the other could rain more
devastation in several hours than has been wrought in all the wars of human history (Kennedy). In
October of 1962, nuclear missiles were discovered in Cuba, as supplied by Russia. This, following the
April 1961 Bay of Pigs failed invasion, were a recipe for an apocalypse. Kennedy ordered the US
Navy to quarantine Cuba, turning away any ships carrying missiles. For some days a handful of men,
operating largely in secret, held our destinies in their hands (Alsop 2). Thankfully, the nuclear war of
our nightmares never came, as Khrushchev ordered all Soviet missiles to be removed from Cuba. This
event became known as the Cuban Missile Crisis. In 1961, Kennedy held a conference with
Khrushchev about easing up on military threats against West Berlin, but nothing was solved and the
Berlin Wall was built, not to fall till 1989. Russia began testing nuclear bombs again in 1961, breaking
an official test ban. The United States began testing their bombs soon after, but did it underground, so
as not to create dangerous fallout. In July, 1963, Russia, the United States, and Great Britain signed a
treaty banning atomic testing in the atmosphere, outer space, and underwater. Testing was permitted
underground (World Book 212j). Kennedy said that he wanted an Indispensable condition of

THE LOST SHEEP, LOST COIN AND LOST SON Essay
During Jesus life he was teaching in many different ways one of them was telling the parables. Parable
is an earthly story with the heavenly meaning. That means that Jesus was making up a story in which
there would be a real people, working of doing something that was common at that times. Sometimes
he used the values whether material or spiritual, that were valuable in old times. So he was making
everything to make the story look more realistic. But under the close of the poor man or woman and
under the animal or a subject there was always something mach more complicated, something about
his father, himself, and the people that were following the God or not. Jesus was telling the parable
pretty often, usually the audience was tax ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And another is to understand a parable like an old story about the God helping the people mentally or
something like that. When you are reading the parable about The Lost Coin for the first time, the
meaning of it might look like that to you. The woman had 10 coins and she lost one them she tried to
find it really hard, she spend a lot of time searching for it with the lamp and when she finally found
the coin she was so happy. She is so poor and god helped her to find it. God is a good person because
he helps poor people might be your conclusion. Yes the God is good. But the main topic, main idea, of
the parable is deeply inside. By the character of a woman Jesus meant himself. By the lost coin he
meant a lost person or sinner. The friends and neighbors were probably mentioned there as an Angels.
The main thing there is the house: very dark, lit only by one circular 18 inch window. The floor was
packed dirt, covered by dry reeds and rushes. 2 that represents the Earth. From the Bible we can see
that the lamp was needed to search for a small coin in the house, even in the daytime. That means that
Jesus needed something to search, for lost people , something bright and important like fire. And that
something had to be the Kingdom of Good. In the old days the coin that the woman lost was called
drachma, which was equal to the Roman denarius, and worth about 20 cents today. However, it had
the purchasing power of about

Positive And Negative Liberty
3. What is the difference between negative and positive liberty? Explain the difference using
examples. What is Isaiah Berlin s criticism of positive liberty? Give one possible response that a
proponent of positive liberty might give to Berlin.
The Two Concepts of Liberty by Isaiah Berlin distinguishes negative liberty from positive liberty.
Negative liberty emphasizes on freedom from outside interference whereas positive liberty
emphasizes on freedom to act upon one s will, to take control of one s life and have the ability to
achieve one s goals. While negative liberty requires absence of external hindrances which act as
impediments to the freedom of individuals, positive liberty requires presence of self control, self
mastery, self determination ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One could become free simply by contenting oneself with one s situation. Some theorists of positive
freedom bite the bullet and say that the contented slave is indeed free that in order to be free the
individual must learn, not so much to dominate certain merely empirical desires, but to rid herself of
them. She must, in other words, remove as many of her desires as possible. As Berlin puts it, if I have
a wounded leg there are two methods of freeing myself from pain. One is to heal the wound. But if the
cure is too difficult or uncertain, there is another method. I can get rid of the wound by cutting off my
leg . But this state, even if it can be achieved, is not one that liberals would want to call one of
freedom, for it again risks masking important forms of oppression. It is, after all, often in coming to
terms with excessive external limitations in society that individuals retreat into themselves, pretending
to themselves that they do not really desire the worldly goods or pleasures they have been denied.
Moreover, the removal of desires may also be an effect of outside forces, such as brainwashing, which
we should hardly want to call a realization of freedom. Because the concept of negative freedom
concentrates on the external sphere in which individuals interact, it seems to provide a better
guarantee against the dangers of paternalism and authoritarianism perceived by

Ed Sullivan s Influence On Popular Culture
Mom, let s watch the Ed Sullivan show. This was one of the most common sayings on the night of
February 9th, 1964 when more than 70 million people watched the Beatles debut on national
television. Ed Sullivan got his start by working as a newspaper columnist, and then later getting
chosen as the host of the variety show Toast of the Town. Which largely influenced popular culture
and the entire music industry through its telecasts of Elvis Presley and the Beatles, and by having all
forms of entertainment appear on the show.

When Ed Sullivan was selected as the host of the Toast of the town, the struggle and problems to get
the show rolling were many. In many American families, the Ed Sullivan show was something that
was an institution and was regularly watched every Sunday night. The reason why it was such a
celebrated part of all American families was because even with awkward gestures Ed Sullivan still
managed to bring an extraordinary variety of the best entertainment to American families. The show
had its first telecast in the summer of 1948, and was produced with a limited budget of only $1375.
The show was one of many quite similar to it that had very short television lives, and so people were
skeptical and didn t expect it to last long at all, but they went for it anyway with only $375 set aside
for talent and the two young stars of the show being Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. In the beginning of
the show, its performers and range of entertainment was limited, but over the years its scope widened
to new forms and variety of entertainment as the name officially changed to the Ed Sullivan show.
Some of the new telecasts and segments came from foreign countries such as Japan, the Soviet Union,
Italy, France, England, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Mexico, Israel, Cuba, and Hong Kong. Some of the
shows were extraordinary in themselves, such as the 90 minute tribute to Irving Berlin, which ended
in true Sullivan fashion with a huge American flag in fireworks and the entire cast singing God Bless

Importance of Food Labels
A research done in 2003 by the International Food Information Council Foundation indicated that
many consumers will refer to food labels when deciding which food item to purchase or consume. (
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. ) Many consumers say that food labels are hard to observe
and read. Food labels objective is mostly to inform consumers about the products characteristics
which actually play an important role in purchasing or the decision making process of the food
item. The government should be more diligent in monitoring the presence of food labels and the
accuracy of their claims given the recent rise of health issues, higher frequency of food allergies, and
increasing population of more aware consumers. Diabetes is a disease that can lead to heart

Sylvia Plath Metaphors
Metaphors by Sylvia Plath was written in 1959. It is a lyric poem that uses metaphors to create a
riddle, as she states in line one. Plath is using a narrator voice in her poetry to describe her pregnancy
with the use of metaphors and her ambivalence to her current state. The narrator is mocking herself
and I find her mocking tone to pregnancy as something I want to incorporate in my writing when
writing about my character s eating disorder.
The poem starts with the narrator announcing herself as a riddle in nine syllables. The nine syllables is
the first hint that the poem is going to be about pregnancy. Plath correlated the use of the word nine to
the length of a pregnancy, giving the reader an inkling of what is to be expected of the poem. The
narrator then goes on to describe herself as an elephant, then a house, two very distinctively large
objects. She is now mocking the weight gain caused by pregnancy and she furthers this by comparing
herself to a melon, strolling on two tendrils. These lines give the reader a vivid imagery of someone
that has become stout and is struggling to do normal tasks such as walk. ... Show more content on

an answer to the question why do you want to die? she answers this question by starting the poem with

In her poetry, she does not use the voice of the narrator like the way Plath does, instead it is more of a
conversational piece. Her poetry is confessional and written in her point of view, whereas with Plath s
poems I ve mentioned before, there is a disconnect where the reader reads it in the voice of the
narrator, instead of Plath s voice. In the poem, she notes that her body is a physical bad prison that

The Partition Of Indi A New Understanding Of Partition
In 1947, the partition of India on the departure of British colonial power laid the seed for widespread
bloodshed, Ritu Menon and Kamla Bhasin pioneer a new understanding of partition through the
voices of affected women for the first time, whose stories were buried under the dust of time and the
blankets of the patriarch. Authors, Ritu Menon and Kamla Bhasin both have strong roots in women s
studies. Menon as an independent scholar and publisher focused on violence against women, and
Bhasin for her work with South Asian women s movements for the United Nations. As feminist
scholars and activists, Menon and Bhasin s Borders and Boundaries expands from their previous
scholarly publications. Menon and Bhasin argue the importance of a feminist approach to studying
India s partition against the backdrop of an overwhelming wealth of political and communal histories,
the gruesome reality that Partition was distant from the smooth process written on paper. They also
argue the objectification of women, whose bodies became symbolic territories to claimed, conquered
and marked, as women became the respective countries, indelibly imprinted by the other.
Encapsulating feminist history, Menon and Bhasin chronologically ordered their argument, outlining
the phases of partition from a woman s perspective. The first chapter, speaking for themselves,
addresses the challenges faced in the research phase of the book and the historiographical importance
for giving silenced partitioned

Research Paper On Sucker By Carson Mcculler
Sucker Research paper In the story Sucker, by Carson McCullers, you see heavy use of the human
condition that every negative action originates from a negative mood or emotion and every positive

poorly and ignored him, Pete did the same to Sucker. This caused the young boy Richard to develop
emotional problems, which caused his relationship with his cousin to be broken and tainted, due to the
cascade of negativity. Sometimes this look in his eyes makes me almost believe that if Sucker could

Compare And Contrast Vampires And Zombies
Vampires V. Zombies
When people combine their fears and imaginations, they end up with some fascinating, yet horrifying,
creatures. Killers of the night, such as vampires, or the extinction of the human race, usually due to a
zombie outbreak. Vampires and zombies are both fictional beings who have made their way into
society through years of storytelling, novels, and media. However, what sets them apart from each
other? While they are both products of our eerie imagination, which one s existence is more
believable?
What are vampires and zombies? Vampires suck the human blood at the time of night. But their brains
are pretty much functional. On the other hand, zombies are brain dead and they feed on human flesh at
any time of the day (ReComparison.com). Vampires are intelligent and cunning, using their wisdom to
attract prey. A common behavior of vampires is seduction; this is because vampires are usually
attractive. It helps with getting an easy meal; they don t have to deal with too much of a fight, unlike
zombies. Zombies don t have much wit and must chase after their prey. With their brainless behaviors,
zombies don t have individual personalities. They are all similar and act on the same instinct.

hand, bacteria are all around us and spread viruses all over the world. This is the origin of the modern

that spreads throughout the world. There is even a type of fungus that has been known to zombify

The Swing By Jean-Honore Fragonard Essay
The eighteenth century, rococo era, remained a light hearted time being pre revolutionary. Transpired a
period that the postmodern world would attempt to emulate. After Louis XIV died, things became
more excessive. Sculpture became more delicately carved while architecture metamorphose a more
decorative and successful. Paintings of the aristocracy in pastel colors, showing themes of fantasy,
pleasure, and sensuality as they were more commonly asked for. Women s textile dresses were
excessive, to say the least. Rooms were smaller to make everything else look more extreme. The
Swing by Jean Honore Fragonard has been described as the embodiment of the Rococo era paintings.
Born in Grasse of the French Riviera, 1732, Fragonard, spent most of his time studying at the studio of

trees. Most of the trees are lush and full of life while others have no foliage at all. This style is called
the blast and the bough and is thought to represent the passion behind The Swing. The free and easy
nature is all the more emphasized by the loose brushstrokes. In this overgrown garden, a Madame, in a
fluffy, creamy pink dress that billows around her in the style of the time, is sitting on a swing with a

(1956), though with such films like James Mangold s 3:10 to Yuma (2007) and David Mackenzie s
Hell or High, westerns in the modern stay still have an audience. Films in this genre usually take place
during the last part of the 19th century not too long after the Civil War, but there are exceptions to this

Usually, the central plot of the western film is the classic, simple goal of maintaining law and order on
the frontier in a fast paced action story. It is normally rooted in archetypal conflict good vs. bad, virtue
vs. evil, white hat vs. black hat, man vs. man, new arrivals vs. Native Americans (in those days were
depicted as savages), settlers vs. Indians, lawman or sheriff vs. gunslinger, the rugged individualist vs.
the community, the cultivated East vs. West to name a few. Often the hero of a western meets his
opposite double, a mirror of his own evil side that he must destroy. Typical elements in westerns
include hostile elements (often Native Americans), guns and gun fights (sometimes on horseback),
violence and human massacres, horses, trains (and train robberies), bank robberies and holdups,
runaway stagecoaches, shoot outs and showdowns, outlaws and sheriffs, cattle drives and cattle
rustling, stampedes, posses in pursuit, barroom brawls, search and destroy plots, breathtaking settings

Oedipus Rex Role Of Fate
Over the centuries, people have pondered over the influence divine or diabolical power and how free
an individual is in making choices that are their very own. The ancient Greeks acknowledged the role
of Fate in their daily lives as a terrifying and unstoppable force. The messages of prophecies often
times offered the questioner incomplete, evasive answers that both enlightened and darkened the tragic
hero s near future. Writers such a Sophocles questioned the power of the prophecies and the power
they had to convey the will of the gods and moral choice. Oedipus actions are matched by his over
confidence and impulsion to make him prey to the very fate he wishes to avoid. His desperate escape
of fate arises from the attempt to live without committing heinous offenses of the prophecies provided
of him killing his father and marrying his mother. In lines 341 347, Teiresias enforces the role of Fate
by saying, Well it will come what will, though I be mute[...]I have no more to say, storm as though
willst, and give the reign to all thy pent up rage. Translated, Teiresias insists that regardless of what
Oedipus says or does, fate will follow him and play its way out. Although it can be fought that

Erice Breaks Themes
Growing up means more responsibility and more expectations from people around you. Nowadays the
expectations we have to one another keeps getting higher. This means that a larger group of people
will be having a harder time living up to these expectations. For instance, more children at school will
be searching for a way to live up to the expectations. To do this they will have to face challenges that
might be too hard, for someone with lack of self confidence and responsibility this will be a challenge
with many failures.
In the short story, Ernie Breaks written by Genevieve Scott the main theme is also about expectation
and responsibility towards a child. We follow a girl that is troubling with responsibility and cannot
carry her expectations. The main character and narrator is the girl called Cara and is at age ten, while
the story takes place. Cara just passed fourth grade and the mother wants her and the brother to have a
passing present , which at the end becomes a turtle. One day Cara enters the brother s room and she

responsibility at the start when she says that she wants a puppy. We also see that, when she tries to

Energy Gap Between Electron Shells
Numerous metals and different substances radiate splendid shades of obvious light when they are
warmed. The colors originate from electrons moving between energy levels. The energy gaps between
their electron shells relate with the energy of the colour they give off. so the energy of every colour of
light matches the energy gaps between electron shells in different atoms.
Electrons are orchestrated into energy levels. Shells are concentric districts of electron thickness that
are fixated on the core(nucleus) of the atom. The bigger the shell, the further its electrons are from the
nucleus and the higher their energy is is. electrons fill the most reduced shells before filling higher
shells. So there are shells, and there are energy gaps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The metal salts are stuffed into a firecracker tiny pellets called stars. After a firecracker is lighten, a lift

Characteristics Of Soccer

Soccer possibly is one of the most famous sports around the world. However, we usually hear that
some talented soccer players like Marco Van Basten, Michael Owen and Ronaldo need to retire or the
performance is seriously affected due to different kinds of injuries.

According to the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) and research data by John

example, knee injuries, ankle injuries and hamstring injuries.

70% of all ACL injuries happen without collision with another player as a result of football involving
lots of one step stop deceleration, sudden change of direction, landing from a jump with the knee and
hip at extension or a lapse of concentration. Besides tearing the ACL, we need to know any knee
injuries can cause a player to be sidelined from training and competitions for a long period
unfortunately. Therefore, the knee injuries usually are the main cause to break the careers of soccer
players. (Source: http://www.englewoodortho.com)
Although hamstring strains (muscle group at the back of your thigh) will not seriously affect the
careers of soccer players, they still make lots of players endure torment on it. The reason is that
hamstring strains easily occur when the thigh muscles of a player are not strong enough. This situation
usually happens when the player lacks time for recovery between training and competitions or
receives excessive intensity training or matches when the player recently recovers from injuries.

The Pros And Cons Of UFO And Aliens
UFO and Aliens have claimed to be seen all the time but few are easy to believe. A lot of people see
mysterious lights somewhere. Lights are seen commonly, but when people see a strange light at night
they might think about UFO. So many people swear to have been abducted or seen flying saucers, and
some describe the same thing and have captivated with creatures from other planets. Some shows and
movies of these subjects have been produced. A lot of people are curious about this subject, and this is
not surprising. Many flying objects have been witnessed but never identified each year. One of the
most famous cases of a UFO and Aliens is the Roswell New Mexico incident in 1947, but it was
quickly covered up by the government, and many people are still questioning what really happened.
The US government gave some irrational reasons as explanations for the crash. Also, at Roswell s
case, Brown wrote that a funeral home was secretly contacted to order four children sized hermetically
closed coffins. Giving people reason to believe these bodies could be dead aliens after being studied.
Few Roswell incident reports showed that the flying saucer was made from unknown materials. After
this event, some people started to believe in and research UFO and Alien documents. People usually

if every night your mother tested you, against your will, to see if you were still whole . In the book
Breath, Eyes, Memory by Edwidge Danticat, characters experience a lot of trauma and they react to it
in many ways. The main character Sophie and her mother, Martine, both internalize their trauma at the
beginning of the book, but throughout the course of the book Sophie learns that it is okay to talk about
and share her experiences. However, Martine continues to run away from reminders of the experiences
that happened. Martine also struggles being near Sophie because she is a constant reminder of her

Furthermore, Assuming That The Gorges’ Fifteen Year-Round
Furthermore, assuming that the Gorges fifteen year round employees work at the establishment, there
is a clear prove that they always intent to operate year round. Although in Bridewell they talk about
120 year round employees, the amount of workers in the Gorges is still substantially significant for the
minor league team operation since they do stadium maintenance, accounting, publicity, and other
administrative task. It could be argued, as mentioned on another case, that a truly seasonal business
which provides year round work for an insignificant number of employees could qualify for the 29
U.S.C S 213 (a)(3) exemption; however, a business that has 120 employees working year round can be
presumed they operate year round. See ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Sets could argue for part (B) that they pass this test because they count their money once the
season starts which leaves them with less than 1/3 of their earnings for the off season. See .....
On the other hand, there are two things that Ortiz could argue against The Sets. First, the defendants
need to show records of their earnings if they want to make a reasonable argument about the whole
income thing. Since the burden of proof is on them, Ortiz has a better chance of winning this part of
the exemption because the defendant has not offered any calculation of the receipts. See Jeffrey.
Secondly, although the Sets do not count the money earn during the offseason as earnings, regardless
of their personal preference, the income needs to be calculated at the moment they make the
transaction. As clarified in Bridewell, the term receipts does not infer that is up to the establishment to
decide when to recode the money as income, but when they actually receive the money. Considering
that 7 months out the year, the Sets hosts games and promote stadium advertisements, part of the
selling activities and transactions happen during the remaining 5 months of the year. For both of this
major points, Ortiz shows a more reasonable argument.
Whether or not each element is perfectly met in each part of the exemption can be open to discussion.

The Radio Frequency Identification ( Rfid )
Introduction As technology advances, businesses use technology to improve the efficiency of their
operations. Such is the case with the Radio frequency identification (RFID) in the health care industry.
These devices are very affordable to acquire and are currently used to track resources, patients,
doctors and expensive equipment. RFID helps with the collection of information for patients with lack
of communication or people with serious conditions. (Hu, 2015) With hospitals finding different way
to attract new patients in, these devices also help hospitals save money on the management side to
keep them afloat. This advanced technology has great potential to improve patient experience in
healthcare by taking away human error out of the equation.
Literature Review RFID uses electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags attach to
objects. These tags contain electronically stored information. The information can be read by RFID
readers and can only be read if they are within the line of sight of the reader. There are two types or
RFID tags; passive and active. Passive RFID relies on RF energy transferred from the reader to the tag
to power the tag. Active RFID uses an internal power source, such as a battery within the tag to
continuously power the tag and its RF communication circuitry. The information is transfer efficiently
and automatically without human intervention. (Yao, 2012) RFIDs can be used the 5 areas that are

Plato’s 1st Argument for the Immortality of the Soul from...
Plato s 1st argument for the Immortality of the Soul from opposites and Theory of Reincarnation Plato
s Phaedo is a dialog between Phaedo, Cebes and Simmias where Socrates gives some arguments for
the immortality of the soul. In this work, Phaedo tells us about Socrates final days, who has been
convicted to death. Great philosopher does not have a fear of death because he believes that when a
man dies, the soul still exists even if the body perishes. Trying to prove his arguments, Socrates
presents two proofs Doctrine of Opposites and second which is based on Theory of Recollections. In
Phaedo he writes: That soul, I say, herself invisible, departs to the invisible world to the divine and

People from these denominations do believe in concept of rebirth. But religious sects such as
Christianity, Islam and Judaism do not believe in theory of reincarnation. This theory is very close to
Plato and some other Greek philosophers who believe in the Immortality of the soul. As for me, in
some cases I do agree with Plato in Theory of Opposites. Undoubtedly, in our world we can always
find two opposite things, actions, etc. Small and tall people, healthy and unhealthy people, sunny and
cloudy day, hot and cold weather... But I do not believe in the Immortality of the soul in general. To
my mind Plato came to this conclusion due to the times he lives in. But we cannot base our beliefs on
what we want to be true; the truth can be found by weighing the evidence for a given idea. Thus, he
took what he knew to be true at the time and formulated his opinions which were founded on that
knowledge. I guess, if Plato lived nowadays, may be he would approach to another conclusion. I do
not think that Plato makes credible arguments for the immortality of the soul. To my mind, his
concepts were built on his desires. I mean, that life is difficult and awkward enough without knowing
of our mortality. There is inexplicable reality that so many people struggle so hard and it seems so
unjust. Let s take a simple example of a man, who has passed away in the accident. He did not do
anything wrong as most people he was working,

Different Historical Interpretations of Bloody Sunday
On January 30th 1972, civil rights activists were involved in a protest march against internment
through Londonderry. British paratroopers, who were deployed on the streets, shot and killed 13 of the
marchers and wounded others. Many people have different views on what happened and why.
The main conflicting views are those of the paratroopers and their supporters and the views of the
marchers and the friends and family of those killed. Source A is a newspaper report form the Daily

However, this would be welcomed by the marchers and families of those killed, as they have always
insisted that those killed were innocent victims of British paratroopers. They were greatly angered at
the findings of the Widgery enquiry and believed that it was a whitewash by the British government.
This new evidence presents a new chance for those who they believe are murderers to be put on trial.
Another change, which discredits the original evidence, is that forensic scientist Dr. John Martin, who
gave evidence to the Widgery hearing that Mr. Wray had been handling guns or explosives, has
reversed his opinion . This is bad for the Paratroopers side of the story, but could suggest that Dr.
Martin had been under pressure to support the soldiers in the enquiry, as their story was based on the
protestors firing guns at them.
Source B is another newspaper report, from the Guardian. The headline reads BLOODY SUNDAY
REVELATION. This backs up what we have been saying all these years: the victims were innocent.
This immediately indicated that the writer of the article supports the view of the protesters and the
families of those killed. This also shows that the article may be biased. The article also does not
include the opinion of the Paratroopers or their supporters on the

The Civil War On America
The Civil War was a big moment in history. Many Americans know what it is and have come to
appreciate it. The Civil war made big changes to America and society. Although things are not perfect
in America today, the Civil War effected society in a big way and changed many people over a period
of time. Thus, America was made a better place as a whole and improved drastically. The war started
in 1861 and ended in 1865. The Civil war was fought for many reasons and numerous factors caused
the war. For example, around this time period Northern, or free states had many differences between
Southern, or slave states. This included the power of the national government to prohibit slavery in the
territories that had not yet become states 2 When Abraham Lincoln became President in 1860 he
pledged to the people that he would keep slavery out of the territories. In turn, seven slave states that
were in the deep South seceded, or separated from, the nation and made a new nation widely known as
the Confederate States of America. Many Northerners chose not to take the secession seriously and
failed to recognize that the Southern states were authentic about what they were doing. Though other
people did not seem to care too much, Abraham Lincoln did. He gave his First Inaugural speech to a
broken nation in March of 1861, the year the war started. One of the first things that Lincoln said in
his speech was that Apprehension seems to exist among the people of the Southern

Pros And Cons Of Thomas Paine
Thomas Paine s Arguments in Common Sense in Favor of Independence

Will Collins
Thomas Paine published Common Sense in January of 1776 at a tipping point in the American
Revolution. The Colonies had been in rebellion nine months after the first shots were fired at
Lexington and Concord. Washington s army was had set siege to Boston. However, there was a large
number of colonists that were undecided about the wisdom of revolution and independence. Many
colonists still felt emotionally attached to the mother country and the king and many questioned how
revolution and war would bring peace. In addition, given the relative wealth (and low taxes) of the

The Effects of Slavery on African Americans
Slavery, due to its overall violent nature, had lasting effects on African American s. Enslaved African
Americans faced tremendous turmoil internally and within society with all that they had to deal with.
The most apparent and disastrous affects of slavery during the 18th century was the overall dissolution
of society in regards to human rights, families, and the inability for slaves to voice an opinion of their
own. Slavery brought forth major suffering. African American s who were enslaved experienced many
troubling and painful feelings and emotions. With slavery, came problems; physical, emotional, and
traumatizing experiences. Slavery was corrupt and dehumanizing. Some of the leading factors that
resulted in why slavery was so awful was the tension and conflict it caused in society, families were
split up and sold off separately, and lastly, it led to extremely inappropriate and wrongful forced sexual
relationships between slave masters and their slaves, specifically young girls and women. Many of the
material we covered over the course of this semester in our class, explained and went into further
detail regarding the corruptness and brutalities that came with slavery. 12 Years A Slave, American
Slavery, and Soul By Soul, all included valuable and honest descriptions, analysis s, and explanations
of slavery and the many effects it provoked.

Phaedrus was told a story by his classical Greek philosopher friend Socrates. The story was about the

One of the Theuth s inventions was writing and he believed that it can help Egyptians to get better

Logical Fallacy Research Paper
Logical Fallacy
A Logical Fallacy is, generally talking, a mistake of thinking. When somebody receives a position, or
tries to influence another person to embrace a position, in light of an awful bit of thinking, they submit
a misrepresentation. I say generally talking in light of the fact that this definition has a couple of
issues, the most imperative of which are sketched out underneath. Some sensible false notions are
more basic than others, thus have been named and characterized.
Informal Fallacies
Inductive Arguments needn t be as thorough as deductive arguments to be great arguments. Great
inductive arguments loan backing to their decisions, yet regardless of the fact that their premises are
genuine then that doesn t create with 100% conviction that their decisions are valid. Indeed, even a
decent inductive argument with genuine premises may have a false conclusion; that the argument is a
decent one and that its premises are genuine just creates that its decision is presumably genuine. Every
inductive argument, even great ones, are thusly deductively invalid, thus fallacious in the strictest
sense. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Logical and Factual Errors
Arguments comprise of premises, derivations, and conclusions. Arguments containing awful

Medical Diagnostic Devices
Healthcare, and all that it provides, is considered one of the most precious resources in the United
States today. Everyone has been there. After days of feeling crummy you break down and go the
doctor. After all, there is so much you need to do. From your child s soccer game your little one has
been talking about for days, your cousin s wedding with the perfect dress hanging in the closet and of
course, you cannot afford to miss work. So there you are, in the doctor s office with the all important
question. What is wrong with me? Thankfully, with modern day science, there is technology available
to peer inside and discover what stands between you, the soccer field sideline, and embarrassing your
family by dancing the Macarena. With each passing year, the sophistication of medical diagnostic
devices increases with disruption to the traditional and centralized diagnostic delivery model. A
review of five medical diagnostic devices available today, or coming soon to a healthcare facility near
you, will be reviewed along with how it will disrupt the current model.
Capsule Endoscopy According to Christensen, Grossman, and Hwang (2009), medical device and
diagnostic equipment (MDDE) is progressively decentralized with each pass year in a predictable and
consistent fashion. This pattern of change may be seen in every discipline of medicine including the
arena of endoscopy, which involves a visual examination of the gastrointestinal tract. The capsule
endoscopy is one such

Essay on FLQ Crisis
On October 5, 1970, British trade commissioner James Cross was kidnapped in his Westmount home
by members of the terrorist group Front de liberation du Quebec. The FLQ Manifesto called for non
democratic separation to be brought about by acts of terror. From 1963 to 1967, the FLQ planted 35
bombs; from 1968 to 1970 they planted over 50 bombs. By the fall of 1970 the terrorist acts of the
FLQ cells had claimed 6 lives. The kidnappers demands included the release of a number of convicted
or detained FLQ members and the broadcasting of the FLQ Manifesto. The Manifesto was read on
Radio Canada. Then, on October 10th, the Quebec minister of justice guaranteed safe passage to
anywhere in the world for the kidnappers in exchange for the safe ... Show more content on

Under the sweeping authority of the act, 465 Canadians were so rounded up. A day later, on Saturday
October 17th, the body of Pierre Laporte was found stuffed in the trunk of a green Chevrolet. In
Ottawa, government sources said the FLQ assassinated Laporte because War Measures was enacted.
The tension that night was palpable. John Turner, the minister of justice, looked distraught. In his
office, Trudeau ministers Gerard Pelletier and Jean Marchand were weeping openly at the death of an
old friend and colleague. Early in December 1970, police discovered the location of the kidnappers
holding James Cross. He was released after his FLQ captors were given safe passage to Cuba. Four
weeks later Paul Rose and the kidnappers of Pierre Laporte were found in the corner of a country
basement. They were tried and convicted for kidnapping and murder. The October Crisis was the first
time in Canadian history the state itself, both in Ottawa and in Quebec City, was held to ransom by
extremists and terrorists. It was also the first time, in peace time, that Ottawa invoked War Measures.
It was a drastic step to take and one laced with very dangerous side effects. In the guilt by association
atmosphere engendered by War Measures hysteria, the terrorism and extremism of the separatist FLQ
tarnished all separatist movements in Quebec. Also, Rene

`` Pride `` By John Aquinas
When one hears the word pride , one would rarely imagine a modest person who devotes their time to
volunteer work and philanthropy. Typically, one would picture an arrogant politician or a movie star, a
person so self absorbed that they almost entirely ignore the needs of those around them. However,
even the humblest acts of virtue can arise from pride as well. The story of Icarus, the boy who became
entranced with his own pride and flew too close to the sun, is told time and time again; however, there
is another story of pride one hears less often, the person who takes pride in their own humility. Rather
than take pride in typical attributes such as wealth, prestige, or even appearance, these people take
pride in their modesty and virtue. In this way, pride comes from an unexpected source and is difficult
to avoid since it takes occasion even from good deeds (Aquinas 7). While the other six deadly sins
present both helpful and harmful characteristics of the sin, pride is complex in corrupting even the
most well intentioned actions. At first, it would seem that humility would be the opposite of pride
since it is defined as, having a lowly opinion of oneself ( Humility ). However, there are also
occasions in which a person corrupts the virtue by using it to enhance their image and view it as an
example of their own excellence. For example, although most of those volunteering at the soup
kitchen want to improve their community or provide to those less fortunate, there

The World Is Not Short On Food
The causes of poverty are very complex and there isn t just one single solution to fix it. However, the
problems could generally be reduced by equal distribution of the basic resources such as water, food
and land. These basic human needs can be met by doing simple suggesting such as having the country
invests in seeds, irrigation and tools for people to grow and harvest foods. Fixing the education
systems and meeting the needs of local communities that can t afford to go to school providing the
knowledge. Providing advice and marketing encouragement to those countries that want to improve
and be involved. With such basic skills and knowledge a country would be about to provide the basic
needs for its own people. The world is not short on food. Many of the developed countries have
enough of it, but people in the third world countries are suffering because they are unable to gain the
access to the food, water and land or unfortunately can t afford to purchase it or make it.
Economist, Jeffery Sachs has observed the water crisis in Africa have developed what they call the
water poverty trap. Sachs says that the developed crisis is unique not because it s the poorest region in
the world but because it s the only major region that has a negative growth in the income per capita in
his study he conducted. Its correlates with the poverty of the region and the lack of water that leads to
the loss of food, the cause of many deadly diseases and unfinished education; Most people

Chartres Cathedral Analysis
Chartres Cathedral
Chartres Cathedral is one of the most significant achievements of all the historical architecture.
Additionally, it is entirely preserved with its original details. The unique features of the cathedral are
intact, and thus when one visits the place, he or she is likely to encounter the authentic architecture
work as it was done many years ago. Chartres Cathedral symbolizes an atmosphere of awe and
holiness (Katzenellenbogen, 2). As such, it was built for religious purposes. However, it attracts the
nonbelievers as well. As a holy building, it has many glass windows to light the building. Due to its
height, a double flying buttresses is used to support the high nave. The cathedral was the first building
in history that used buttresses since it was considered as necessary for the peoples culture and as a
sign of authority. It was built to reflect a symbol of power since the religious leaders engaged in
politics too. The cathedral has many statuses that represent the Biblical aspects such as Elijah, Isaiah,
John the Baptist, Jeremiah, and Simeon (Katzenellenbogen, 9). The standings portray the Christian
faith that was used by the architectures while building the cathedral. The interior floor stands thirty six
meters high and is one hundred and twenty eight meters wide. The sizes show how vital it is and it can
host many peoples who visit for religious functions.
The Great Ziggurat

Shooting An Intruder Vs. Safety
Shooting an Intruder vs. Your Safety
In today s world there is so much controversy over guns and whether or not civilians should have
access to them. Since the beginning of time, we have used some type of weapon to protect both
ourselves and our family. Protecting our loved ones comes naturally to us. Since the first gun was
invented in China during the 10th century, which was the Chinese Fire Lances (Harder), they have
been used as a means for protection. Using guns for protection brings about a great question; is it
permissible for a person protecting his or her home to shoot an intruder in self defense , or does such
an act constitute excessive force ? The use of a gun to shoot an intruder to defend yourself, your
family and your home is necessary for protection against those who intrude upon our home.
The first question you have to ask yourself when discussing this topic is what is an intruder? An
intruder is a person who enters on to somebody s property without permission and with criminal intent
towards the owner and/or their belongings. Criminal intent is the intention to commit a crime, which
could be to take something away from the owner, cause bodily harm, or to end someone s life. The
next part to look at is the intention of the one protecting their belongings and life. Self defense is the
defense of one s life, loved ones, or belongings, especially through the use of physical force, such as
the use of a gun, which is permitted in certain cases as an answer to

The Bolshevik Regime s Ability to Defeat Its Opponents by 1922
By the end of 1919, with only a few isolated groups of Anti Bolsheviks fighting, the Bolshevik regime
was evidently winning the Russian Civil War. The reasons which lie behind their ability to defeat all
their opponents by 1922 is mainly due to a well disciplined and equipped army, Lenin s strong,
purposeful leadership and the advantage of the disunity of the Anti Bolshevik force.
The Russian Civil War started when serious fighting broke out in May 1918 during the transportation
of 45,000 Czech prisoners of war to Vladivostok with the Soviets of a town on the railway. As more

The Red Terror and the way Trotsky kept his word, once shooting one in ten of the soldiers in a group
of army that ran away by a firing squad, ensured that members of the Red Army were fighting their
best. Hence, the Red Army was very well disciplined and well directed under Trotsky, compared to the
unrelated White forces under rival generals.
Another advantage which helped the Bolshevik regime win the Civil War was Lenin s strong,
purposeful leadership compared to the lack of purpose and disunity of the white army. The Bolsheviks
was a united force, they were organized and their purpose were all to win the Civil War so they could
continue with governing Russia and bring about reforms. On the other hand, the Anti Bolsheviks were
not a united force, the groups of Czechs, socialist revolutionaries, democrats, landlords, nobles and the
armies of intervention from Britain, France, America and Japan all had different purposes. Some
wanted a more democratic system of government, many favored monarchy, others were resentful
towards the way the Bolsheviks pushed the Socialist Revolutionaries out of

The Performative Presidency Summary
Mast focused his book on a similar scandal that occurred in Washington called the Watergate scandal
with Richard Nixon that displayed similar endeavors that occur in American politics. The
Performative Presidency is a clearly written and compact book on an important topic too often ignored
by social scientists; the performative dimension of politics. Most scholars accept at an abstract level
that politics is not fully captured by survey data and analysis of formal political processes. Politics is
practiced, it is a lived, social endeavor, and a meaningful or sometimes meaningless experience. It
creates fallacies that are fragile to human endeavors, but how one integrates these factors into the
study of politics is much less clear. Especially

  • 2. The Impact Of Media And Instructional Technology On... Position paper on the impact of Media and Instructional Technology on Student Learning There have been many debates, among researchers, in the past on technology and the impact that it has on learning. However, there is one debate that, after over nearly two decades, is still being discussed to this day. The debate of Clark Kozma has been of great significance to researchers in the past and present. As new and improved technology is introduced, many researchers have focused their study on this debate to prove or disprove the findings of Richard Clark and Robert Kozma. Clark and Kozma Over thirty years ago, Richard Clark researched the impact of technology on learning. In 1983, Richard E. Clark published the results of a meta analysis that examined the influence of media on learning where he concluded that media do not influence learning under any circumstance (Becker, 2010, para. 3). Clark believes that media does not influence learning to any degree. He has stood firm in his research findings over the past years. Just a few years later, Robert Kozma decided to oppose Clark s debate and complete his own research to decide if technology had an impact on learning. Kozma was looking to find out why technology had failed to impact learning. In order to establish a relationship between media and learning we must first understand why we have failed to establish one so far (Kozma, 1994, p. 2). Kozma believes that media does influence learning. The Debate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He is married and lives with his wife and a five years child. He is full time self employed individual with no known health issues. Mr. A initially experienced constipation, blood in stool and abdominal pain which prompted Mr. A to visit his general practitioner (GP). Then he was referred to specialist and went through a series of medical examinations, blood tests, imaging procedures, and hospital admissions that were required to eliminate the other possible causes and diseases related to these symptoms. It was awkward and unpleasant to deal with the symptoms for him. He felt weak and started to lose weight. Eventually, Mr. A was diagnosed with crohn s disease (CD) a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in 2012. IBD is a collective group of disorders that are chronic and incurable and characterised by inflammation in the intestinal tract. (Chang Johnson, 2014, p.446). Crohn s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) are autoimmune diseases, where the body attacks the digestive system. Crohn s disease can occur in any part of the intestine and ulcerative colitis only affects the large intestine (Ministry of Health, 2015). Although the individual susceptibility to develop inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) appears to be genetically determined, the actual occurrence of the disease is largely influenced by environmental factors (Lichtenstein Scherl, 2011, p.77).This has been a life changing ... • 4. Downtown Massillon On October 14 I attended a New Wave concert in Downtown Massillon. This concert was actually apart of a larger event called the Massillon Zombie Walk which is held once a year. Most everyone dressed as a zombie. There was even a man who dressed as a Soviet spy zombie who made my night. He walked down the sidewalk with an accordion, a hammer and sickle pin, and a giant fur hat. Other zombies swarmed around him as I realized that I m pretty lucky to live in an area that treasures local gatherings and celebrations. The night began with a Thriller performance in front of the Massillon public library. About 20 or so people performed the iconic dance as Michael Jackson s audio was played. The people who performed managed to do a really good job recreating the dance moves we all know so well and they looked like they had fun. The party moved down to the street beside the Massillon Museum where the stage was waiting. After we arrived New Wave Nation ran onto the stage and performed Thriller again. Sadly the lead singer of this band could not match MJ s awesome chops. It was cringe. All the high notes sounded fuzzy and strained. The tempo seemed too slow. There was a tv screen behind them that actually played the music video which managed to make their dancers incompetent. Weird sound effects were added to the end of phrases and instruments were played along with the original audio. I hoped with all my heart that they just hadn t warmed up, that it would get better but this was not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Yes, Mandela Yes, Mandela Essay Nelson Mandela became a legend long before he passed away and to most of the world he is known as the greatest hero of South Africa. According to the Oxford dictionary a hero is: 1 a person especially a man, who is admired by many people for doing sth brave or good. [...] 3 a person, especially a man, that you admire because of a particular quality or skill that they have. There were several political prisoners imprisoned on Robben Island both before, during and after Mandela served on the island. But why was Mandela the only one to become a living legend? It is crucial to see the poem in a historical and political context to be able understand the imagery and metaphors used in the poem. Imagery and metaphors are commonly used in poetry, and so it is in Dennis Brutus Yes, Mandela . Imagery describes the prison years as ...a blanket cobwebbed of pain and grime. The horrifying description of the prison years is a contrast to the description of Mandela s appearance when stepping free ...you step free so erectly, so elegantly . The contrast reinforces the picture of a physical and mentally strong and elegant Mandela. Contrasts are also used later to underline his strong personality once again ...impress your radiance on the grey morning air . Brutus describes the sand on the island as harsh, white and treacherous which metaphorically refers to the apartheid regime. Mandela conducted hard labor during his time on Robben Island, which we see is referred to in another metaphor describing the sufferings caused by the apartheid. The violent regime was like jagged rocks and krantzes bladed crevices of racism and deceit , not only to Nelson Mandela but to all races except the white. The poem is published in 1991, one year after Mandela s release. The poem is rather short, with only three stanzas and 20 lines. This is however fairly characteristic for a lyrical poem. It is a lyrical poem because it doesn t tell a story from beginning to end, but it expresses the speaker s state of mind and emotions linked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Reflection About Reading You have to read 10 hours this week said my first grade teacher. In elementary school reading logs were what all the teachers made us do. Every week I had to read a certain amount of hours. I however, never read the amount of hours I was supposed too. I would just fill out the log and tell my mom to sign it. At that time it sounded like a good idea but then came freshman year. Mrs. Daugherty changed my whole perspective on reading and how important it is to read. In elementary school reading never came easy too me. My mom would always say The more you read, the better you ll be. but I never listened to her. Books were just not interesting to me. We would have book fairs in our school library and I would always ask my grandma to come and buy me a bunch of books, but in reality I never even read the books that she bought me. I would wonder around the library looking for the perfect book then once I thought I found one, I would read one chapter then be done with it. Most of the time the books would just sit in my room until I got a letter from the librarian saying that the book was past due. Then when I went to return a book, the librarian would always ask How did you like the book? and I would reply It was great I really enjoyed it! , even though I had never even finished the book. • 7. The Truman Show By Peter Weir For centuries, man has dreamt of constructing pristine simulated worlds , existing in a separate sphere from our imperfect reality. From the town of Pullman, a company town south of Chicago to Disney World, attempts to force Utopia have failed, falling prey to the complications of people s personal desires. The Truman Show, directed by Peter Weir, tells us the story of The Truman Show, an elaborate reality show built around the control of one man s life. Christof, the director, has created an entire living city for Truman, the star of his show, and the only one not in on this whole elaborate fakery. Essentially, Truman is living his life in the simulation of a flawless, archetypal American town, for the entertainment of millions of viewers around the world. Christof, along with countless others obsessed with the idea of controlling part of the world to fit their visions of an ideal reality, have deluded themselves into thinking fictional utopias can exist apart from the undeniable constraints of reality. Their fundamental flaw lies in relying on the assumptions of psychological behaviorism, and the belief that they could perfectly condition the behavior of the inhabitants follow the goals of the community. In order for Christof s scheme to work, Truman must be unaware that he s living in a simulation, and be satisfied with the simulated life that s presented to him. As much as possible, Christof and his crew try to control every element of Truman s life. A massive dome is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His young and adventurous personality shaped his decisions through his almost three year presidency. While his presidency was short compared to most, his effect on America is still felt today. John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born on May 29th, 1917 in Brookline, Massachusetts to Joseph Patrick Kennedy and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy. He began his political career in 1946, as a Representative, quickly becoming a Senator, then the President of the United States. During his campaign, Promised to lead Americans to a New Frontier. In his own words, Now in the thermonuclear age any misjudgements on either side about the intentions of the other could rain more devastation in several hours than has been wrought in all the wars of human history (Kennedy). In October of 1962, nuclear missiles were discovered in Cuba, as supplied by Russia. This, following the April 1961 Bay of Pigs failed invasion, were a recipe for an apocalypse. Kennedy ordered the US Navy to quarantine Cuba, turning away any ships carrying missiles. For some days a handful of men, operating largely in secret, held our destinies in their hands (Alsop 2). Thankfully, the nuclear war of our nightmares never came, as Khrushchev ordered all Soviet missiles to be removed from Cuba. This event became known as the Cuban Missile Crisis. In 1961, Kennedy held a conference with Khrushchev about easing up on military threats against West Berlin, but nothing was solved and the Berlin Wall was built, not to fall till 1989. Russia began testing nuclear bombs again in 1961, breaking an official test ban. The United States began testing their bombs soon after, but did it underground, so as not to create dangerous fallout. In July, 1963, Russia, the United States, and Great Britain signed a treaty banning atomic testing in the atmosphere, outer space, and underwater. Testing was permitted underground (World Book 212j). • 10. THE LOST SHEEP, LOST COIN AND LOST SON Essay During Jesus life he was teaching in many different ways one of them was telling the parables. Parable is an earthly story with the heavenly meaning. That means that Jesus was making up a story in which there would be a real people, working of doing something that was common at that times. Sometimes he used the values whether material or spiritual, that were valuable in old times. So he was making everything to make the story look more realistic. But under the close of the poor man or woman and under the animal or a subject there was always something mach more complicated, something about his father, himself, and the people that were following the God or not. And another is to understand a parable like an old story about the God helping the people mentally or something like that. When you are reading the parable about The Lost Coin for the first time, the meaning of it might look like that to you. The woman had 10 coins and she lost one them she tried to find it really hard, she spend a lot of time searching for it with the lamp and when she finally found the coin she was so happy. She is so poor and god helped her to find it. God is a good person because he helps poor people might be your conclusion. Yes the God is good. But the main topic, main idea, of the parable is deeply inside. By the character of a woman Jesus meant himself. By the lost coin he meant a lost person or sinner. The friends and neighbors were probably mentioned there as an Angels. The main thing there is the house: very dark, lit only by one circular 18 inch window. The floor was packed dirt, covered by dry reeds and rushes. 2 that represents the Earth. From the Bible we can see that the lamp was needed to search for a small coin in the house, even in the daytime. That means that Jesus needed something to search, for lost people , something bright and important like fire. And that something had to be the Kingdom of Good. In the old days the coin that the woman lost was called drachma, which was equal to the Roman denarius, and worth about 20 cents today. However, it had the purchasing power of about ... • 11. Positive And Negative Liberty 3. What is the difference between negative and positive liberty? Explain the difference using examples. What is Isaiah Berlin s criticism of positive liberty? Give one possible response that a proponent of positive liberty might give to Berlin. The Two Concepts of Liberty by Isaiah Berlin distinguishes negative liberty from positive liberty. Negative liberty emphasizes on freedom from outside interference whereas positive liberty emphasizes on freedom to act upon one s will, to take control of one s life and have the ability to achieve one s goals. While negative liberty requires absence of external hindrances which act as impediments to the freedom of individuals, positive liberty requires presence of self control, self mastery, self determination ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One could become free simply by contenting oneself with one s situation. Some theorists of positive freedom bite the bullet and say that the contented slave is indeed free that in order to be free the individual must learn, not so much to dominate certain merely empirical desires, but to rid herself of them. She must, in other words, remove as many of her desires as possible. As Berlin puts it, if I have a wounded leg there are two methods of freeing myself from pain. One is to heal the wound. But if the cure is too difficult or uncertain, there is another method. I can get rid of the wound by cutting off my leg . But this state, even if it can be achieved, is not one that liberals would want to call one of freedom, for it again risks masking important forms of oppression. It is, after all, often in coming to terms with excessive external limitations in society that individuals retreat into themselves, pretending to themselves that they do not really desire the worldly goods or pleasures they have been denied. Moreover, the removal of desires may also be an effect of outside forces, such as brainwashing, which we should hardly want to call a realization of freedom. Because the concept of negative freedom concentrates on the external sphere in which individuals interact, it seems to provide a better guarantee against the dangers of paternalism and authoritarianism perceived by ... When Ed Sullivan was selected as the host of the Toast of the town, the struggle and problems to get the show rolling were many. In many American families, the Ed Sullivan show was something that was an institution and was regularly watched every Sunday night. The reason why it was such a celebrated part of all American families was because even with awkward gestures Ed Sullivan still managed to bring an extraordinary variety of the best entertainment to American families. The show had its first telecast in the summer of 1948, and was produced with a limited budget of only $1375. The show was one of many quite similar to it that had very short television lives, and so people were skeptical and didn t expect it to last long at all, but they went for it anyway with only $375 set aside for talent and the two young stars of the show being Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. In the beginning of the show, its performers and range of entertainment was limited, but over the years its scope widened to new forms and variety of entertainment as the name officially changed to the Ed Sullivan show. Some of the new telecasts and segments came from foreign countries such as Japan, the Soviet Union, Italy, France, England, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Mexico, Israel, Cuba, and Hong Kong. • 14. Sylvia Plath Metaphors Metaphors by Sylvia Plath was written in 1959. It is a lyric poem that uses metaphors to create a riddle, as she states in line one. Plath is using a narrator voice in her poetry to describe her pregnancy with the use of metaphors and her ambivalence to her current state. The narrator is mocking herself and I find her mocking tone to pregnancy as something I want to incorporate in my writing when writing about my character s eating disorder. The poem starts with the narrator announcing herself as a riddle in nine syllables. The nine syllables is the first hint that the poem is going to be about pregnancy. Plath correlated the use of the word nine to the length of a pregnancy, giving the reader an inkling of what is to be expected of the poem. The narrator then goes on to describe herself as an elephant, then a house, two very distinctively large objects. She is now mocking the weight gain caused by pregnancy and she furthers this by comparing herself to a melon, strolling on two tendrils. These lines give the reader a vivid imagery of someone that has become stout and is struggling to do normal tasks such as walk. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Partition Of Indi A New Understanding Of Partition In 1947, the partition of India on the departure of British colonial power laid the seed for widespread bloodshed, Ritu Menon and Kamla Bhasin pioneer a new understanding of partition through the voices of affected women for the first time, whose stories were buried under the dust of time and the blankets of the patriarch. Authors, Ritu Menon and Kamla Bhasin both have strong roots in women s studies. Menon as an independent scholar and publisher focused on violence against women, and Bhasin for her work with South Asian women s movements for the United Nations. As feminist scholars and activists, Menon and Bhasin s Borders and Boundaries expands from their previous scholarly publications. Menon and Bhasin argue the importance of a feminist approach to studying India s partition against the backdrop of an overwhelming wealth of political and communal histories, the gruesome reality that Partition was distant from the smooth process written on paper. They also argue the objectification of women, whose bodies became symbolic territories to claimed, conquered and marked, as women became the respective countries, indelibly imprinted by the other. Encapsulating feminist history, Menon and Bhasin chronologically ordered their argument, outlining the phases of partition from a woman s perspective. When Maybelle treated Pete poorly and ignored him, Pete did the same to Sucker. Although in Bridewell they talk about 120 year round employees, the amount of workers in the Gorges is still substantially significant for the minor league team operation since they do stadium maintenance, accounting, publicity, and other administrative task. It could be argued, as mentioned on another case, that a truly seasonal business which provides year round work for an insignificant number of employees could qualify for the 29 U.S.C S 213 (a)(3) exemption; however, a business that has 120 employees working year round can be presumed they operate year round. On the other hand, there are two things that Ortiz could argue against The Sets. First, the defendants need to show records of their earnings if they want to make a reasonable argument about the whole income thing. Since the burden of proof is on them, Ortiz has a better chance of winning this part of the exemption because the defendant has not offered any calculation of the receipts. See Jeffrey. Such is the case with the Radio frequency identification (RFID) in the health care industry. These devices are very affordable to acquire and are currently used to track resources, patients, doctors and expensive equipment. RFID helps with the collection of information for patients with lack of communication or people with serious conditions. The information can be read by RFID readers and can only be read if they are within the line of sight of the reader. There are two types or RFID tags; passive and active. Passive RFID relies on RF energy transferred from the reader to the tag to power the tag. Active RFID uses an internal power source, such as a battery within the tag to continuously power the tag and its RF communication circuitry. Undoubtedly, in our world we can always find two opposite things, actions, etc. Small and tall people, healthy and unhealthy people, sunny and cloudy day, hot and cold weather... But I do not believe in the Immortality of the soul in general. To my mind Plato came to this conclusion due to the times he lives in. Thus, he took what he knew to be true at the time and formulated his opinions which were founded on that knowledge. I guess, if Plato lived nowadays, may be he would approach to another conclusion. When somebody receives a position, or tries to influence another person to embrace a position, in light of an awful bit of thinking, they submit a misrepresentation. I say generally talking in light of the fact that this definition has a couple of issues, the most imperative of which are sketched out underneath. Some sensible false notions are more basic than others, thus have been named and characterized. Informal Fallacies Inductive Arguments needn t be as thorough as deductive arguments to be great arguments. Great inductive arguments loan backing to their decisions, yet regardless of the fact that their premises are genuine then that doesn t create with 100% conviction that their decisions are valid. Indeed, even a decent inductive argument with genuine premises may have a false conclusion; that the argument is a decent one and that its premises are genuine just creates that its decision is presumably genuine. Every inductive argument, even great ones, are thusly deductively invalid, thus fallacious in the strictest sense. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Under the sweeping authority of the act, 465 Canadians were so rounded up. A day later, on Saturday October 17th, the body of Pierre Laporte was found stuffed in the trunk of a green Chevrolet. In Ottawa, government sources said the FLQ assassinated Laporte because War Measures was enacted. The tension that night was palpable. John Turner, the minister of justice, looked distraught. In his office, Trudeau ministers Gerard Pelletier and Jean Marchand were weeping openly at the death of an old friend and colleague. Early in December 1970, police discovered the location of the kidnappers holding James Cross. He was released after his FLQ captors were given safe passage to Cuba. Four weeks later Paul Rose and the kidnappers of Pierre Laporte were found in the corner of a country basement. They were tried and convicted for kidnapping and murder. The October Crisis was the first time in Canadian history the state itself, both in Ottawa and in Quebec City, was held to ransom by extremists and terrorists. It was also the first time, in peace time, that Ottawa invoked War Measures. It was a drastic step to take and one laced with very dangerous side effects. In the guilt by association atmosphere engendered by War Measures hysteria, the terrorism and extremism of the separatist FLQ tarnished all separatist movements in Quebec. Also, Rene ... • 42. `` Pride `` By John Aquinas When one hears the word pride , one would rarely imagine a modest person who devotes their time to volunteer work and philanthropy. Typically, one would picture an arrogant politician or a movie star, a person so self absorbed that they almost entirely ignore the needs of those around them. However, even the humblest acts of virtue can arise from pride as well. The story of Icarus, the boy who became entranced with his own pride and flew too close to the sun, is told time and time again; however, there is another story of pride one hears less often, the person who takes pride in their own humility. Rather than take pride in typical attributes such as wealth, prestige, or even appearance, these people take pride in their modesty and virtue. In this way, pride comes from an unexpected source and is difficult to avoid since it takes occasion even from good deeds (Aquinas 7). While the other six deadly sins present both helpful and harmful characteristics of the sin, pride is complex in corrupting even the most well intentioned actions. At first, it would seem that humility would be the opposite of pride since it is defined as, having a lowly opinion of oneself ( Humility ). However, there are also occasions in which a person corrupts the virtue by using it to enhance their image and view it as an example of their own excellence. For example, although most of those volunteering at the soup kitchen want to improve their community or provide to those less fortunate, there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since the first gun was invented in China during the 10th century, which was the Chinese Fire Lances (Harder), they have been used as a means for protection. The Performative Presidency is a clearly written and compact book on an important topic too often ignored by social scientists; the performative dimension of politics. Most scholars accept at an abstract level that politics is not fully captured by survey data and analysis of formal political processes. Politics is practiced, it is a lived, social endeavor, and a meaningful or sometimes meaningless experience. It creates fallacies that are fragile to human endeavors, but how one integrates these factors into the study of politics is much less clear. Especially ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
