Should Australia Have The Right To An Adequate Standard Of...
Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights embodies the right to an adequate standard
of living. Although this doctrine was adopted in 1948, there is a significant amount of work to be done
worldwide. Moreover, the absence of a right to housing would compromise many other basic rights
including the right to family life and privacy, freedom of movement, assembly and association, and
the right to health.
The Commonwealth of Australia believes that everyone has the right to an adequate standard of living,
including adequate food, water, and housing. Australia acknowledges adequate housing as an essential
for human survival as supported in documents such as Australia s National Human Rights Action Plan.
Human rights provides us with a language and a framework that can help shift the debate from one of
welfare and pity to one of rights and empowerment. (Graeme Innes, former Human Rights
Commissioner)
The standard of living in Australia is comparatively higher than the rest of the world. However, there
is still a disparity among the citizens of Australia regarding living standards. Though Aboriginal
Australians only make up 3% of Australia s total population, Australia is still home to an ... Show

Urban Outfitter Company Analysis
Introduction
The Basics
In order to gain a better understanding of the profit generating differences between small and large cap
companies within the clothing industry, this report will focus on two companies: Urban Outfitter and
L. Brands Inc. Within this report, Urban Outfitters will serve as the target company and it will be
compared L. Brands Inc., the benchmark company.
Background
Urban Outfitters is a small cap clothing company that was founded in 1970 as the Free People Store in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The company was incorporated in 1980, and today it trades on the
NASDAQ under the ticker symbol URBN. With 47 years under its belt, 2016 revenue of $3.45 billion,
and a market cap of $3 billion, Urban Outfitter is one of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The first ratio that will be used is the profit margin ratio. This ratio is computed by dividing net
income by sales. The second ratio to be used is known as the return on assets ratio (ROA). Return on
Assets is computed by dividing net income by total assets. The final ratio that will used within this
report is called the return on equity ratio (ROE). This ratio can be calculated by dividing a company s
net income by its total equity.
There are quite a few reasons for choosing the three ratios mentioned above. One big reason for our
selection is due to the popularity of these ratios. By having a lot of popularity, we can be sure that our
audience will be familiar with what we are talking about, without having to waste too much time
explaining. Another reason for choosing these three ratios is that they are relatively easy to calculate.
A final reason for picking our three ratios is because they allow us to understand why a company may
be outperforming or underperforming in term of profitability, without having to be a professional.

Postnatal Child Development
The phases of human development can also be culturally defined through lifestyle aspects such as diet
and exposure to disease. The postnatal stage of child development is crucial to the growth of the child
and through survival aspects of different cultures, children develop at different rates in different ways
to increase chance of survival. As researched by Anthropologist Barbara Piperata, In Brazil s Amazon
River basin the suboptimal nutrition and exposure to infectious disease have resulted in less than
optimal growth. The childrens exposure to disease it lowers the growth rates compared to American
children. When Piperata compared Brazilian boys and girls, the males are more sensitive to

Politics And Government During The First Dynasty Period Of Ur
There are few examples of politics and government in ancient society that are as informative and
detailed as those during the Third Dynasty period of Ur. The location of this ancient Sumerian city of
Ur was located midway between Baghdad, Iraq and the head of the Persian Gulf. (Ur, 2014) In
addition, the ruins of Ur are now known as Tell al Muqayyar, Iraq. Interestingly, this city state has had
a long and significant history throughout the pages of antiquity. However, the time period of the Third
Dynasty being observed only covers the years approximately between 2112 2004 BC. (Ur, 2014) The
importance of this small part of the timeline of the city state of Ur can be marked in the politics that
show us the roots and early trends of human governance via the history of one of the earliest large city
states of the prehistoric world. Initially, it was the rise to power by Ur Nammu that allowed the
beginning of the Third Dynasty of Ur. Furthermore, it is important to understand what factors enabled
Ur Nammu to be able to establish the Third Dynasty, for it is through Ur Nammu s rise to power that
important trends can be established that can be observed in the rise of future political powers. As an
example, the defeat of the Gutians when Ur Nammu was one of the generals of the King of Uruk
contributed him fame and power. (Sumer, 2014) Coincidentally, it is also a common theme for those
who rise to power in history to obtain fame, wealth, and power. This shows that even in ancient

General Mclellan Dbq
General McClellan was a famous general during the civil war who lead the Army of the Potomac.
President Lincoln wanted him to move forward towards Richmond but General McClellan would hold
back until he was finally ordered to move. Him being removed can be considered a loss but it also was
a victory for the people back in Washington. George McClellan was somewhat of a perfectionist he
would not do anything till the time he didn t have it all figured out, also he was never sure and
doubted himself. Another thing that caused him issues is that he overestimated the abilities and
manpower of his enemies. George McClellan was considered to be a perfectionist and would never
take the next step until everything else wasn t all figured out. He wanted more reinforcements but
President Lincoln had to explain to him that this would not be a wise move. The amount of time it
would take President Lincoln to get him reinforcements would be enough for the rebels or the
confederates to gain upon him and be able to take him on easily. Even though President Lincoln
stayed calm he was still impatient, he ordered McClellan and said he must move. This is because if the
orders were not given McClellan would have stayed back and would doubt him self upon when to
move. [Document A and B] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He can be considered one of the reason to make the union wait longer for its victory. McClellan kept
fearing the amount of soldiers that Lee would bring and was slowing down instead of moving towards
the Confederate capital in Richmond. He slowed down because he thought that his army was unfit for
battle and wanted more reinforcements. President Lincoln even tried to assure him and helped him
strategize by telling him that he must think like his enemy and if he continues to do what he is
instructed to do he will achieve his goal in no time. [ Documents G and

A Few South Africans By Sue Williamson Essay
A Few South Africans is a series of works by Sue Williamson that truly interested me. This prominent
South African English artist, known for her politically and societally questioning artworks,
investigates the natural strength of black South African women, and how they were oppressed during
this period. In this essay, I will attempt to understand the situation of South Africa s past and in turn its
present with the help of her references and her work. The main theme of Williamson s piece is female
activism and freedom of expression during a time of conflict in their country. It attempts to show how
all women were affected by apartheid. The motives for wanting a fairer society based on equal
distribution of wealth and power between different races shouldn t be a tricky idea to understand. To
explain is simple. To change is much harder.
Nevertheless, Williamson attempts to answer these questions. In some ways we can empathise,
because our society has been through a similar struggle for the recognition of women in society,
namely the Suffragette Movement. This struggle for the vote took 110 years and true parity is
ongoing. The women in Williamson s work were all important in developing the limited freedom of
black South Africans today. Compared to their white brothers and sisters, Black South Africans still
only own 30% of all land in South Africa. Sue Williamson highlights the work of trailblazers like
Winnie Mandela (left). Also featured is Albertina Sisulu, a

Examples Of Stereotypes In A Big Happy Family
Motif of Stereotypes Many movie writers incorporate stereotypes into their film. Stereotypes in
movies can be good mechanisms to help the audience better understand the characters. For example,
common stereotypes of cowboys include grittiness and determination, which helps to develop them
for the viewer s entertainment. However, stereotypes can also present characters in a negative light. In
Madea s Big Happy Family, Tyler Perry uses the motif of African American stereotypes, which
includes rampant drug abuse, broken families, and inappropriate, disorderly behaviors. At its roots, his
movie contains nothing more than the theme of pigeonholing African Americans. The film begins with
Shirley, the matriarch of the family, sitting in a doctor s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. Brown, a friend of Madea, is at the hospital and needs a blood transfusion during his surgery. His
daughter, Cora, willingly volunteers. However, they discover that their blood types are not the same,
suggesting that he is not her actual father. After the movie, Mr. Brown, Madea, and Cora all go on The
Maury Show to determine whether or not Mr. Brown is Cora s father. Maury claims that he is not Cora
s father. Kimberly s nastiness toward her husband, Calvin, and the rest of the family is eventually
revealed to be from her experience of being raped as a teenager. Byron, originally thought to be
Shirley s youngest son, is exposed as Kimberly s illegitimate son. This was kept hidden from both
Calvin and Byron. After Calvin finds out, he and Kimberly talk through their problems and decide to
seek help, saving their marriage. Byron also has an illegitimate child with his ex girlfriend Sabrina.
This causes many problems for Byron, as Sabrina is constantly around, and she makes it her personal
campaign to slander him around his family. He also must make child support payments to Sabrina,
putting stress on him as he tries to hold down an honest, but low paying, job. This is a knock on
African Americans, as they are often labeled as having many illegitimate

Sahelian Folk Music
For centuries, the Tuareg, traditional nomadic Berbers, inhabited the Saharan regions of North Africa
Niger, Mali, Libya, Algeria and Burkina Faso known not only for hosting incredibly violent
successions of political struggles but for giving birth to a musical revolution. Since the 20th century,
Tuareg tribes across the region have risen against Nigerian and Malian authorities when their voices
failed to be heard to guard their independence and personal freedoms. During these events, traditional
Sahelian folk music transformed into a revolutionary guitar driven style called al guitara to convey
messages inspiring the resistance and the nationalist political movement known as tanekra. Neighbor

Pros And Cons Of Being An Awesomenist
Xiaoqing is a fabulous person, and I know you will think so too! She has many talents, including
swimming and art (though she claims to not be at the skill level of Michael Phelps or Picasso), as well
as singing in the shower. She plans to improve these talents in the future, and work to become an
anesthesiologist basically someone who gives pain numbing shots to people as well. Her bravery in
wanting to pursue a job in which she will be disliked by so many (because really, who likes shots?)

Cash Registers
Lately cash registers were the one game around, but nowadays companies have a lot more choices.
Changing those antiquated cash registers with modern point of sales devices posesses variety of
important benefits, including:
1. Point of sales systems simplify the accounting process. Old fashioned cash registers drive
accountants to evaluate a huge selection of receipts, but with a spot of sales system financial staff can
merely use the built in accounts or create their own.
2. Unlike a check out, a spot of deal system often includes a standard inventory management system.
Store owners may use a spot of sales system to keep tabs on their biggest retailers and reorder those
products when stock gets low.
3. It is not hard to research past transactions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Point of sales devices provide faster service than old fashioned cash registers. Every section of the
process, from authorizing a debit card transaction to producing a person receipt, is faster on a spot of
sales device.
7. Customers acquire more interesting itemized receipts with a spot of sales devices. Many cash
registers can only just print the time and the quantity of the deal, but since point of deal devices are
linked in to the inventory control system they provides much more specific information, including a
explanation of that, the list price and the sales price.
8. Point of deal devices can lessen user errors. Striking an incorrect key is always a risk when buzzing
a deal, but point of sales devices have built in bank checks to ensure that the info is entered
effectively.
9. You can view real time inventory with a spot of sales device, something that even the best cash
registers just can t do. Actually, many companies have discovered that implementing a spot of sales
system practically reduces the necessity for an expensive hand count.
10. The maintenance and repair costs tend to be lower on a spot of deal device when compared to a
cash register. The amount of companies that repair cash registers is dwindling, and which means that
repair costs can be somewhat high. There are numerous suppliers who repair point of sales devices,
which will keep repair costs

Leonardo Da Vinci And The World Of Engineering
Engineering Drawings Military vehicles and weapons, flying objects, like planes and drones, robots,
the study and understanding of kinesiology, and our knowledge of how water flows... This may seem
like a random list of things that have no significance to each other at all, but they all in fact have
something in common. The common thread that links these things is Leonardo Da Vinci. Leonardo
has impacted the world of engineering in so many different ways, it is almost impossible to count
them all. He is considered to be the father of numerous innovations and designs and some of his
original works are still being referenced today. This essay will discuss Leonardo and how his
inventions were not only masterpieces in his time, but also how they provided a foundation for future
engineers to build from. It all started in the little town of Vinci, just twenty two miles outside of
Florence, Italy (DaVinci Tech). Leonardo da Vinci was born on April fifteenth, 1452, to a family that
was not very wealthy; so he could not afford any form of education (Leonardo da Vinci). Despite this,
Leonardo s designs were still way beyond his time. Leonardo lived in Vinci for some time, but
eventually moved to Milan, a military based city at the time, where he drew some of his first designs.
Milan s environment stimulated his military inventions. Today, military vehicles and items are very
commonly seen around the world, and a lot of them originated from Da Vinci s designs. For example,

The Causes Of Abusive Relationships
There are many more abusive relationships in our community then we think there are. According to
the National Institute of Justice, 1.5 million women are victims of domestic violence. Every one in 10
teen girls suffer from dating violence (Chicago Tribune), and one in five teens who have been in
serious relationships say they were hit or pushed. Many people ask what an abusive relationship is and
what causes them. According to the Center for Relationship Abuse Awareness, an abusive relationship
is a pattern of abusive and coercive behaviors used to maintain power and control over a former or
current intimate partner. Abuse can be emotional, financial, sexual or physical and can include threats,
isolation, and intimidation. Abuse tends to escalate over time. When someone uses abuse and violence
against a partner, it is always part of a larger pattern of control. Many partners seek for control
stemming from low self esteem or jealousy. Research shows that children who grew up in abusive
situations or were victims of abuse, believe that violence is the only way to resolve problems. There

Analysis Of Wells Fargo Company
Introduction
Knowledge is considered as one of the most important and competitive resource for sustenance of the
organisation (Zack, 1999). It can be compared to the strategic resource that can be used and applied in
various frames of the organisation. Experienced managers in the organisations believe that company
can receive strategic advantage through knowledge and not the strategies or actions implemented by
competitors. Knowledge can be regarded as a strong approach that opens numerous ways of success. It
is that weapon that help organisation to evaluate solutions in financial and other professional
difficulties.
It can also be seen that organisations are investing heavily on knowledge development. Imparting

CRITICAL ANALYSIS ESSAYS
The Thomas theorem by W. I. Thomas and D. S. Thomas is a notion of sociology formulated in 1928
stating that If men define situations as real, they are real in their consequences . The theory in simple
language states that action is caused by the interpretation of a situation. The subjective point of view
in a certain situation is affects the outcome action on the same. However, (Koshy, T. 2007), the
theorem cannot be said to be important for the purpose of guiding the behavior of individuals.
Thomas stated that any definition of a situation influences the present. In other words the decisions
made by individuals gradually affect the whole life policy and personality of the individual himself.
As a result the theory articulates that intimacy, education and family which are basically known
societal problems are the key fundamentals to the roles of situations especially when detecting a social
world. The societal problems are the subjective impressions that can be projected on to a human life to
become real projectors. In the field sociology the statement by Thomas expresses how individuals
have different views on situations wrong interpretation of situations by an individual are followed by
consequences as real as if the situation was correctly interpreted (Thomas, J. A. 2012).

Hafu Essay
Hafu is the term used in Japan to describe children of half Japanese descent. This term is derived from
the English
Half which, when used in the Japanese language, indicates that a person is only half of the Japanese
culture. According to Hafu Japanese the term Hafu originated in the 1970s and is now the most
commonly used label for half Japanese children (Hafu Japanese, 2010). Being called half might seem
like an insult to some people, in Japan it is not really meant this way. In a YouTube video Japanese got
asked about what image they have about Hafu, most of them answered that they wanted to be a Hafu
as well. Almost all the answers to this question were positive; they are pretty, they have long legs, they
have the best of both worlds. The majority of the Japanese seem to have positive views on what it is
like to be a Hafu, but they might not have a proper understanding of what it is like to be Hafu. So
despite the positive image the Japanese have, life in Japan is not easy for people with mixed roots
(Views from the street on Hafu, 2010).

Hi everyone! How are you today? Nice to see all you guys here. Let s me introduce myself first. My

including Australians have their own way of understanding and an opinion of the world and people in

It gives them love and they love it too. The next thing I want to say which explores Australians unique
ways of thinking is their belief in what is right or wrong no matter who is involved. Because the house
means everything to Australians people, they will do everything they can to protect it. My fellow
worker also director of The Castle , Rob Sitch has cleverly and effectively used many film techniques
to express this idea. Do you remember when Darryl and Dennis stand in the Federal court? There is a
big contrast between the underdog and the authorities. The close up and the medium shots were taken
to show his confidence in the facial expression and body language. On the other hand, the low angel
camera shot up to the judge emphasis the power of the law. These both reveal Darryl s determination
of battling even when he knows that he is fighting against the government. By these techniques, it s
clear to see that no matter how hard the situation is, no matter how limited individuals ability is,
Australians people will still be brave to stand up, fight for their right and protect their family.
And, last but not least, the very important thing I have to tell you is Australians willingness to help and
fight for underdogs. Later in the movie, Hammil comes to Darryl and asks to help him to keep the
house. In the scene when they went to the High Court, the costume status has been

Identity in Gertrude Stein s The Making of Americans
Throughout her career, Gertrude Stein was fascinated by the possibility of revolution in the sense of a
complete or drastic change, especially in relation to her ideas of identity and agency. But critics
disagree about her conclusions. For example, Bruce Goebel sees her early texts as embrac[ing a]
deterministic attitude about the formation of identity (238) that conceives of identity as locked within
historical and biological contexts. At the other extreme, many critics such as Caren Kaplan locate
Stein s work within the context of expatriate modernism and so see it within the discourses which
celebrat[e] the rootless traveler (7), cut loose from nation and history and thus ... Show more content

In The Use of Pleasure, the second volume of The History of Sexuality, Foucault emphasizes the
possibilities for change and agency in his definition of the arts of existence :
I am referring to what might be called the arts of existence. What I mean by the phrase are those
intentional and voluntary actions by which men not only set themselves rules of conduct, but also seek
to transform themselves, to change themselves in their singular being, to make their life into an oeuvre
that carries certain aesthetic values and meets certain stylistic criteria. (10 11)
Stein, too, is interested in her characters abilities to transform themselves in The Making of
Americans. She describes Henry Dehning who in the process of growing up had made everything for
himself very different so that he can no longer imagine his prior self:
And it is strange how all forget when they have once made things for themselves to be very different.
A man like Dehning never can feel it real to himself, things as they were in his early manhood, now
that he has made his life and habits and his feelings all so different. He says it often, as we all do
childhood and old age and pain and sleeping, but it can never anymore be really present to his feeling.

This transformation, as with others in the novel, carries with it a sense of loss and of the

Candidiasis And Diabetes
Candidiasis is a disease in which a fungal infection of the mucous membranes is found in the mouth
and throat. The organism may cause infections in other locations, such as nails, skin (diaper rash),
vagina, and the gastrointestinal tract. There are many types of fungus that live in the human body
including candida. Candida is a type of yeast that normally lives in small amounts in areas like your
mouth and belly, or skin without causing any issues. The immune system and the body s bacteria
usually keep Candida in balance. When this balance is interrupted, it can result in an overgrowth of
the Candida fungus, causing it to get infected. The infection is called Candidiasis. There are several
different types of candidiasis, such as Thrush (Oropharyngeal Candidiasis), Genital Yeast Infection
(Genital Candidiasis), Diaper Rash From Yeast Infection, and Invasive Candidiasis. ... Show more

Themes Of Requiem For A Dream
Requiem for a Dream takes us down the dark paths of four people who, in desperate attempts to find
happiness and fulfilment, become sucked into a world of drug addiction. The 2000 film by Darren
Aronofsky is based upon Hubert Selby Jr. s 1978 novel of the same name. Sara Goldfarb (Ellen
Burstyn) is a retired widow who lives by herself in a tiny apartment. She is very lonely and spends
copious amounts of time watching television; she is especially enamored with a self help show. After a
phone call leads her to believe her dreams of appearing on the show as a guest might come true, she
attempts to lose weight. She starts taking diet pills and soon finds herself hooked, causing her mental
state to deteriorate rapidly. Her son, Harry (Jared Leto), is a junkie who, along with his friend, Tyrone
(Marlon Wayans), thinks that his big break in life will be when he becomes a big time drug dealer. He
has no qualms about using his mother s beloved television set as collateral for drug deals. Harry s
girlfriend Marion (Jennifer Connelly) is a talented clothing designer who could have a future, but she
can t resist the drugs, and she finds herself sucked into down along with Harry. The film, which is set
in Brooklyn s Brighton Beach, holds close to the theme of the novel: the real drug we re all hooked on
is the American Dream, with its promises of big cash paydays and fame and eventually happiness . . .
New York Times film critic Elvis Mitchell wrote in his review (1). The film

Duncan Is To Blame For Macbeth Essay
Treason! Treachery! Duncan is Murdered and Macbeth Hailed King!
The King s sons fled Scotland in fear and Macbeth is declared the right to the throne.
Anand Issac, STAFF REPORTER The admired and beloved King Duncan was found dead late last
night on a visit to Macbeth s castle at Inverness. Once discovered, the king s sons, Donalbain and
Malcolm, fled from Scotland and are held under suspicion for the cruel deed, resulting in Macbeth
being the new king of Scotland. Duncan was found early in the morning by nobleman Macduff and
was reported to be stabbed several times. The motives behind the murder are not yet understood,

Skateboarding Memoir
Another memoir? It feels like the teachers in every grade meet and come up with the same
assignments. It s pointless. At least it s like a free period. It s why I sat in the back. I can be fully
secluded and do what I want, even though it s a large open library. Jam out, watch some videos,
whatever. I won t do well on this paper or in this class, but forget it. School just doesn t seem
important compared to anything else in my life. In every class I just sit and think of all the better
things I could be doing. Why do I have to be stuck here? I should just walk out. My life has just been
going downhill for the past few years. Who would want to write about that? Nonetheless have
somebody read it. A few minutes ago, my teacher asked why I didn t ... Show more content on

I m in the library so I m sure they won t care too much that I m reading instead of doing actual work.
Aside from music, skateboarding is the other half of my life. I ve probable written more stories about
it than music. I don t have an end goal in it, I just love it. It s fun weather I m progressing or not ;
chilling or trying some banger. But just as music goes, it takes up so much time. It s always one of the
two. Thinking of guitar riffs in math, thinking of some handrail to grind in Physics. The skatepark is
right near the school too. Every period I walk past a door and consider going for it. I m actually
getting kind of good too. It s torture, I just picture the progression I could be making. Landing new
tricks, stacking some decent clips, it s awesome. Not to mention all the hemies. They hype it up and
then everything just turns into a party. I ve always wanted to go on a music/skate tour. One of my
bands would hop in a van and go touring playing shows. Along the way we d skate, hit spots and try
and make a short video edit. That would be the dream life... Sadly I m stuck in school. Not to mention
all the other things eating up my time. Although there s things I enjoy, there s things I m not fond of
like work. My job isn t the worst. The pay is fair, the people are kind. Although if I didn t need money
in life I wouldn t be wasting my time. Who would? Then there s any work my family gives me. They
don t usually give me work, but that s why I do it. Aside from that there s all the school work outside
of school. It seems some teachers are beginning to understand that we have lives to live and that no
one does homework. It s all just pointless busy work

A Comparison Of The Glass Menagerie
While reading Tennessee Williams play, The Glass Menagerie , readers are drawn into the drama and
disaster that is the Wingfield family. There were several different film and television versions of this
play done thru the years from 1950 to 1987. After watching several different adaptations, Paul
Newman s film adaptation in 1987 is extremely faithful to the written version. Focusing on plot,
setting, and character development the audience is introduced to a family with an austere future
structured around a series of abandonments, difficulty accepting reality and the impossibility of true
escape. Both versions begin with a narrator looking back at the past and setting the stage for what
memories will follow. The story is told in hindsight by Tom. It begins with Laura and Amanda waiting
at the dining table for Tom to join them, so they can say grace and begin the meal, showing the
audience, the family is very close and depend on each other. Throughout, readers also see constant
conflict between the mother and children, but never conflict between the siblings. For instance, when
Williams writes after an argument between Tom and Amanda; AMANDA: I won t speak to you until
you apologize! (25) then the next morning Amanda sending Laura out, so she can talk to Tom
privately to discuss Laura s future. Trying to provide security to Laura and Amanda (at Amanda s
request), Tom invites and friend, Jim, home from work to meet his sister in the hopes that he will

Many of the families in Hunger have attempted to sever themselves from the past in order to build a
future. Was this how your parents coped with starting over in America? What parts of Chinese culture
did they celebrate?

Were the same forces present in your own family? How were these conflicts resolved?
Well, we re a passionate family (my mother says it s my father s blood) and I remember some serious
household arguments going on when I was a child. Most of the fights took place between my father
and my two older sisters. My sisters were fighting for permission to do things that typical American
teenagers do: to join the soccer team, sleep over at friends houses, go on dates. My sisters didn t get
everything they wanted. For example, my parents decided they would be allowed to go to movies with
boys, but only matinees. My parents believed that going to movies at night might encourage bad
behavior. I could never understand this; aren t movie theaters as dark in the afternoon as they are at
night?
Anyway, I can now also see that the fights were really about my sisters desires to be individuals, to act
in the world and be responsible for themselves. My parents had not grown up with role models for
such independent young women. The conflict was inevitable and necessary; it was part of our family s
gradual movement into American culture.
Will you discuss how and why you decided to become a writer?
I have wanted to be a writer since before I could read. As a child, I copied picture books out onto
sheets of paper, with the illustrations and all of the letters, before I could even put

technology is defined as the specific methods, materials, and devices used to solve practical problems.

Techniques Used In The ASPCA Commercial By Sarah Mclachlan
ASPCA uses fear to get to people s emotions to make them want to adopt a dog or a puppy. Also the
ASPCA makes people want to help the dogs or puppies that could possible be put down. Another thing
is people like to save animals for a living. In the ASPCA commercial, featuring Sarah McLachlan she
uses fear to appeal to people s emotions to make them feel bad about the poor and upsetting puppies in
the ASPCA. Another thing they do in the commercial is make people feel bad or make them upset by
playing sad music in the background. Also they show how injured the dogs/puppies are also how they
are scared of things and how the dogs/puppies just want to be loved by people. Although this may be
true but some people take advantage of adopting.

her personality had been completely wiped out and she had no memory of anything about her life. Just

police had been ran out of town, those whom hadn t been injured fatally and the rest of the emergency
services hadn t favoured much better. Ironically the fire stations had been burnt down and the hospitals
had been raided for drugs, both to use and sell. And now this is what society has evolved to. As I

Strongest Electromagnet
Our period five class was given the challenge of which group could make the strongest electromagnet
out of the materials we were given. We propose that in order to build the strongest electromagnet we
should, use thick copper wire with a length of two meters, an iron nail, four batteries and the
temperature will be colder than room temperature. Based on the data we collected in our trials, we
believe the materials we use will create the strongest electromagnet. We first propose using thick
copper as the material we chose for wire type. We propose using thick copper because, in the trials,
the electromagnet with string wire could only hold 0 filings, the electromagnet with aluminum
material could hold 31 filings and the electromagnet with a copper wire could hold 83 pieces of filing.
The pattern shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We did not get to test the material for the ferromagnet, but according to an article written by
www.irm.umn.edu, However, the versatility of iron carbon alloys cannot be matched in any other
material. We also propose to use two meters of thick copper rather than one meter. The more material
you have the more coils you will have around the ferromagnet. When we tested the number of coils
around a ferromagnet, we found that no coils held 0 filings, fifty coils held 83 filings but 100 coils
could hold 167 filings. Therefore the more wire you have, the more times you can coil the
ferromagnet, which can make the strongest electromagnet. Next, we propose to use four batteries as
our power source rather than using three, two, or one battery. When we tested the number of batteries,
we found that one battery held 14 paper clips, two batteries held 19 paper clips, but 3 batteries could
hold 24 paper clips. Although we did not test using four batteries, we could predict by using
proportions that 4 batteries could hold about 32 paperclips. The pattern shows that more batteries

  • 2. Should Australia Have The Right To An Adequate Standard Of... Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights embodies the right to an adequate standard of living. Although this doctrine was adopted in 1948, there is a significant amount of work to be done worldwide. Moreover, the absence of a right to housing would compromise many other basic rights including the right to family life and privacy, freedom of movement, assembly and association, and the right to health. The Commonwealth of Australia believes that everyone has the right to an adequate standard of living, including adequate food, water, and housing. Australia acknowledges adequate housing as an essential for human survival as supported in documents such as Australia s National Human Rights Action Plan. Human rights provides us with a language and a framework that can help shift the debate from one of welfare and pity to one of rights and empowerment. (Graeme Innes, former Human Rights Commissioner) The standard of living in Australia is comparatively higher than the rest of the world. However, there is still a disparity among the citizens of Australia regarding living standards. Though Aboriginal Australians only make up 3% of Australia s total population, Australia is still home to an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brands Inc. Within this report, Urban Outfitters will serve as the target company and it will be compared L. Brands Inc., the benchmark company. Background Urban Outfitters is a small cap clothing company that was founded in 1970 as the Free People Store in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The company was incorporated in 1980, and today it trades on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol URBN. The first ratio that will be used is the profit margin ratio. This ratio is computed by dividing net income by sales. The second ratio to be used is known as the return on assets ratio (ROA). Return on Assets is computed by dividing net income by total assets. The final ratio that will used within this report is called the return on equity ratio (ROE). This ratio can be calculated by dividing a company s net income by its total equity. There are quite a few reasons for choosing the three ratios mentioned above. One big reason for our selection is due to the popularity of these ratios. By having a lot of popularity, we can be sure that our audience will be familiar with what we are talking about, without having to waste too much time explaining. Another reason for choosing these three ratios is that they are relatively easy to calculate. A final reason for picking our three ratios is because they allow us to understand why a company may be outperforming or underperforming in term of profitability, without having to be a professional. The postnatal stage of child development is crucial to the growth of the child and through survival aspects of different cultures, children develop at different rates in different ways to increase chance of survival. As researched by Anthropologist Barbara Piperata, In Brazil s Amazon River basin the suboptimal nutrition and exposure to infectious disease have resulted in less than optimal growth. • 5. Politics And Government During The First Dynasty Period Of Ur There are few examples of politics and government in ancient society that are as informative and detailed as those during the Third Dynasty period of Ur. The location of this ancient Sumerian city of Ur was located midway between Baghdad, Iraq and the head of the Persian Gulf. (Ur, 2014) In addition, the ruins of Ur are now known as Tell al Muqayyar, Iraq. Interestingly, this city state has had a long and significant history throughout the pages of antiquity. However, the time period of the Third Dynasty being observed only covers the years approximately between 2112 2004 BC. (Ur, 2014) The importance of this small part of the timeline of the city state of Ur can be marked in the politics that show us the roots and early trends of human governance via the history of one of the earliest large city states of the prehistoric world. Initially, it was the rise to power by Ur Nammu that allowed the beginning of the Third Dynasty of Ur. Furthermore, it is important to understand what factors enabled Ur Nammu to be able to establish the Third Dynasty, for it is through Ur Nammu s rise to power that important trends can be established that can be observed in the rise of future political powers. As an example, the defeat of the Gutians when Ur Nammu was one of the generals of the King of Uruk contributed him fame and power. (Sumer, 2014) Coincidentally, it is also a common theme for those who rise to power in history to obtain fame, wealth, and power. This shows that even in ancient ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. General Mclellan Dbq General McClellan was a famous general during the civil war who lead the Army of the Potomac. President Lincoln wanted him to move forward towards Richmond but General McClellan would hold back until he was finally ordered to move. Him being removed can be considered a loss but it also was a victory for the people back in Washington. George McClellan was somewhat of a perfectionist he would not do anything till the time he didn t have it all figured out, also he was never sure and doubted himself. Another thing that caused him issues is that he overestimated the abilities and manpower of his enemies. George McClellan was considered to be a perfectionist and would never take the next step until everything else wasn t all figured out. He wanted more reinforcements but President Lincoln had to explain to him that this would not be a wise move. The amount of time it would take President Lincoln to get him reinforcements would be enough for the rebels or the confederates to gain upon him and be able to take him on easily. Even though President Lincoln stayed calm he was still impatient, he ordered McClellan and said he must move. This is because if the orders were not given McClellan would have stayed back and would doubt him self upon when to move. [Document A and B] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He can be considered one of the reason to make the union wait longer for its victory. McClellan kept fearing the amount of soldiers that Lee would bring and was slowing down instead of moving towards the Confederate capital in Richmond. He slowed down because he thought that his army was unfit for battle and wanted more reinforcements. President Lincoln even tried to assure him and helped him strategize by telling him that he must think like his enemy and if he continues to do what he is instructed to do he will achieve his goal in no time. • 7. A Few South Africans By Sue Williamson Essay A Few South Africans is a series of works by Sue Williamson that truly interested me. This prominent South African English artist, known for her politically and societally questioning artworks, investigates the natural strength of black South African women, and how they were oppressed during this period. In this essay, I will attempt to understand the situation of South Africa s past and in turn its present with the help of her references and her work. The main theme of Williamson s piece is female activism and freedom of expression during a time of conflict in their country. It attempts to show how all women were affected by apartheid. The motives for wanting a fairer society based on equal distribution of wealth and power between different races shouldn t be a tricky idea to understand. To explain is simple. To change is much harder. Nevertheless, Williamson attempts to answer these questions. In some ways we can empathise, because our society has been through a similar struggle for the recognition of women in society, namely the Suffragette Movement. This struggle for the vote took 110 years and true parity is ongoing. The women in Williamson s work were all important in developing the limited freedom of black South Africans today. Compared to their white brothers and sisters, Black South Africans still only own 30% of all land in South Africa. Sue Williamson highlights the work of trailblazers like Winnie Mandela (left). Also featured is Albertina Sisulu, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Examples Of Stereotypes In A Big Happy Family Motif of Stereotypes Many movie writers incorporate stereotypes into their film. Stereotypes in movies can be good mechanisms to help the audience better understand the characters. For example, common stereotypes of cowboys include grittiness and determination, which helps to develop them for the viewer s entertainment. However, stereotypes can also present characters in a negative light. In Madea s Big Happy Family, Tyler Perry uses the motif of African American stereotypes, which includes rampant drug abuse, broken families, and inappropriate, disorderly behaviors. At its roots, his movie contains nothing more than the theme of pigeonholing African Americans. The film begins with Shirley, the matriarch of the family, sitting in a doctor s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mr. Brown, a friend of Madea, is at the hospital and needs a blood transfusion during his surgery. His daughter, Cora, willingly volunteers. However, they discover that their blood types are not the same, suggesting that he is not her actual father. After the movie, Mr. Brown, Madea, and Cora all go on The Maury Show to determine whether or not Mr. Brown is Cora s father. Maury claims that he is not Cora s father. Kimberly s nastiness toward her husband, Calvin, and the rest of the family is eventually revealed to be from her experience of being raped as a teenager. Byron, originally thought to be Shirley s youngest son, is exposed as Kimberly s illegitimate son. This was kept hidden from both Calvin and Byron. After Calvin finds out, he and Kimberly talk through their problems and decide to seek help, saving their marriage. Byron also has an illegitimate child with his ex girlfriend Sabrina. This causes many problems for Byron, as Sabrina is constantly around, and she makes it her personal campaign to slander him around his family. He also must make child support payments to Sabrina, putting stress on him as he tries to hold down an honest, but low paying, job. This is a knock on African Americans, as they are often labeled as having many illegitimate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Sahelian Folk Music For centuries, the Tuareg, traditional nomadic Berbers, inhabited the Saharan regions of North Africa Niger, Mali, Libya, Algeria and Burkina Faso known not only for hosting incredibly violent successions of political struggles but for giving birth to a musical revolution. Since the 20th century, Tuareg tribes across the region have risen against Nigerian and Malian authorities when their voices failed to be heard to guard their independence and personal freedoms. During these events, traditional Sahelian folk music transformed into a revolutionary guitar driven style called al guitara to convey messages inspiring the resistance and the nationalist political movement known as tanekra. A worldwide praised expert, Dr. Caroline Card, first established in her book the Tuareg Music and Social Identity that traditional folk music transformed Tuareg identity and society. From this standpoint, the musical experience that al guitara had on its listeners by combining the traditional with Western musical elements resulted in the rebellions attempting to promote unity and community. This may seem like a random list of things that have no significance to each other at all, but they all in fact have something in common. The common thread that links these things is Leonardo Da Vinci. Leonardo has impacted the world of engineering in so many different ways, it is almost impossible to count them all. He is considered to be the father of numerous innovations and designs and some of his original works are still being referenced today. This essay will discuss Leonardo and how his inventions were not only masterpieces in his time, but also how they provided a foundation for future engineers to build from. It all started in the little town of Vinci, just twenty two miles outside of Florence, Italy (DaVinci Tech). Leonardo da Vinci was born on April fifteenth, 1452, to a family that was not very wealthy; so he could not afford any form of education (Leonardo da Vinci). Despite this, Leonardo s designs were still way beyond his time. Leonardo lived in Vinci for some time, but eventually moved to Milan, a military based city at the time, where he drew some of his first designs. Milan s environment stimulated his military inventions. Today, military vehicles and items are very commonly seen around the world, and a lot of them originated from Da Vinci s designs. • 18. Critical Analysis Essay The Thomas Theorem Weike Jiang SOC31000 001 Date 3/2/2016 Words: 1348 CRITICAL ANALYSIS ESSAYS The Thomas theorem by W. I. Thomas and D. S. Thomas is a notion of sociology formulated in 1928 stating that If men define situations as real, they are real in their consequences . The theory in simple language states that action is caused by the interpretation of a situation. The subjective point of view in a certain situation is affects the outcome action on the same. However, (Koshy, T. 2007), the theorem cannot be said to be important for the purpose of guiding the behavior of individuals. Thomas stated that any definition of a situation influences the present. In other words the decisions made by individuals gradually affect the whole life policy and personality of the individual himself. As a result the theory articulates that intimacy, education and family which are basically known societal problems are the key fundamentals to the roles of situations especially when detecting a social world. The societal problems are the subjective impressions that can be projected on to a human life to become real projectors. In the field sociology the statement by Thomas expresses how individuals have different views on situations wrong interpretation of situations by an individual are followed by consequences as real as if the situation was correctly interpreted (Thomas, J. According to Hafu Japanese the term Hafu originated in the 1970s and is now the most commonly used label for half Japanese children (Hafu Japanese, 2010). Being called half might seem like an insult to some people, in Japan it is not really meant this way. Almost all the answers to this question were positive; they are pretty, they have long legs, they have the best of both worlds. The majority of the Japanese seem to have positive views on what it is like to be a Hafu, but they might not have a proper understanding of what it is like to be Hafu. My fellow worker also director of The Castle , Rob Sitch has cleverly and effectively used many film techniques to express this idea. Do you remember when Darryl and Dennis stand in the Federal court? There is a big contrast between the underdog and the authorities. • 31. Techniques Used In The ASPCA Commercial By Sarah Mclachlan ASPCA uses fear to get to people s emotions to make them want to adopt a dog or a puppy. Also the ASPCA makes people want to help the dogs or puppies that could possible be put down. Another thing is people like to save animals for a living. In the ASPCA commercial, featuring Sarah McLachlan she uses fear to appeal to people s emotions to make them feel bad about the poor and upsetting puppies in the ASPCA. Another thing they do in the commercial is make people feel bad or make them upset by playing sad music in the background. Also they show how injured the dogs/puppies are also how they are scared of things and how the dogs/puppies just want to be loved by people. • 32. Essay about Welcome to the Land of Do-As-You-Please It s a city like no other. Here, there are no limitations. You can take what you want. At no cost. Theft. Of possessions. Of love. Of life. No government. No rules. No consequences. Welcome to the Land of Do As You Please. It s a dark, cold night, the only type of night nowadays. I guess I should be grateful that the rain hasn t begun yet because when it does it s likely that I ll be one of the first to know. As I stand on the roof of this building, I can see for miles around, I can hear for almost the same distance. The screams, the gunshots, the rumble of the city like a stampede of elephants toward an oasis that only a few will get the opportunity to drink from. It s terrible, the thought that this once beautiful and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She had explained how she had been asked to attend a business lunch in a restaurant, but when the people she had been told to meet hadn t arrived she had left, however, outside she had been grabbed, drugged with Chloroform and shoved into a van. She awoke hours later restrained inside a straightjacket, within the walls of a padded cell. Regularly she was taken from her cell and taken to perform tests and to watch things, strange things. I had seen some of the things she had to sit through and it had been horrendous. She was poked, prodded, injected, up to her eyeballs in drugs. Within time her personality had been completely wiped out and she had no memory of anything about her life. Just before being released she had discovered the identity of her abductees. The Government. And their major plot had been serial brainwash. This had been followed by a raid in the location where the laboratory was and eventually resulted in the government being overthrown and leaving London as a communistic society. Well, this had been the plan, but in a matter of time anarchy had ensued, the police had been ran out of town, those whom hadn t been injured fatally and the rest of the emergency services hadn t favoured much better. Ironically the fire stations had been burnt down and the hospitals had been raided for drugs, both to use and sell. And now this is what society has evolved to. • 33. Strongest Electromagnet Our period five class was given the challenge of which group could make the strongest electromagnet out of the materials we were given. We propose that in order to build the strongest electromagnet we should, use thick copper wire with a length of two meters, an iron nail, four batteries and the temperature will be colder than room temperature. Based on the data we collected in our trials, we believe the materials we use will create the strongest electromagnet. We first propose using thick copper as the material we chose for wire type. We propose using thick copper because, in the trials, the electromagnet with string wire could only hold 0 filings, the electromagnet with aluminum material could hold 31 filings and the electromagnet with a copper wire could hold 83 pieces of filing. The pattern shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We did not get to test the material for the ferromagnet, but according to an article written by www.irm.umn.edu, However, the versatility of iron carbon alloys cannot be matched in any other material. We also propose to use two meters of thick copper rather than one meter. The more material you have the more coils you will have around the ferromagnet. When we tested the number of coils around a ferromagnet, we found that no coils held 0 filings, fifty coils held 83 filings but 100 coils could hold 167 filings. Therefore the more wire you have, the more times you can coil the ferromagnet, which can make the strongest electromagnet. Next, we propose to use four batteries as our power source rather than using three, two, or one battery. When we tested the number of batteries, we found that one battery held 14 paper clips, two batteries held 19 paper clips, but 3 batteries could hold 24 paper clips. Although we did not test using four batteries, we could predict by using proportions that 4 batteries could hold about 32 paperclips. The pattern shows that more batteries make a stronger ...
