Jealousy And Discrimination In Shakespeare s Othello
People discriminate for many different reasons: terror, jealousy, the desire for power, or a need to
dissociate themselves from other people. They can, thus, use someone s skin color (a hereditary trait
that cannot be altered) to express their hatred. In Shakespeare s play Othello, Othello, is a happily
wedded man and despite his African heritage, is a well respected general in the Venetian army. At the
beginning of the play, Othello has not experienced any type of discrimination, as of yet. However, by
Iago pointing out to Othello the existence of racist concepts and persuading him on taking action
against the individuals who are presumably harboring racist fueled indignations, Iago successfully
causes the ruin Othello and his wife Desdemona. Race is an issue throughout the play because of Iago
s hatred towards Othello. Also, Iago oftentimes uses racial insults against Othello. For example, when
Iago finds out about the elopement between Desdemona and Othello, he informs her father by saying
Even now, now, very now, an old black ram Is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the color of his skin other people also treat and view Othello as an outsider. Iago and Brabantio
are the ones who mainly see Othello as an outsider. This is obvious through the ways they talk about
him. For example, Iago suggests that Othello is an outsider when he is predicting that the offspring of
Iago and Desdemona will be subhuman. you ll have your daughter covered with a Barbary horse; you
ll have your nephews neigh to you; you ll have coursers for cousins and jennets for germans ( Othello
). Furthermore, depictions such as, thick lips, and the devil, from Iago are used in the play to ostracize

Essay about Global Warming
Imagine the world s major cities completely underwater. Imagine storms so violent that parts of the
world became unlivable. Theses are images that one would expect to find in movie house, but
environmental scientists tell us what is now a good setting for science fiction could soon be reality due
to global warming. Environmental scientists warn that humans are not only making the Earth
inhabitable for animals and plants, but that if humans continues with their current practices, the Earth
will soon be inhabitable for humans as well. Environmental scientists warn that if the Earth s citizens
do not act swiftly and decisively the damage maybe irreversible for humans.

Republicans do not simply favor economics over the environment. The real problem is that
Republicans mistrust environmental science, and nowhere is there a clearer example of this mistrust
than the hearing held by the Subcommittee on environmental regulation in 1995.
SCIENTIFIC COURT
A large component of the Republicans Contract with American was to establish a new paradigm for
environmental policy and environmental law. Republicans believed that the environmental regulation
that had happened in the United States lacked sound scientific evidence. They believed that in an
effort to pass environmental regulation Democratic Congressmen, Senators, and the President had
suppressed those scientists whose views undermined environmental science. As Democratic
Congressmen George E. Brown stated, they (Republicans) allege that science, particularly
environmental science, has been distorted to serve political purposes. 2 This Republican conviction
became apparent when Republicans took over Capitol hill in 1994. No other event more clearly
demonstrates Republicans opinion of environmental science than the 104th Congressional
Subcommittee on Energy and the Environment hearings in 1995.

Zimbardo Prison Experiment Stu
Zimbardo Prison Experiments The Zimbardo prison experiment was set up to investigate the problem
of what the psychological effects for normal people result from being a guard or inmate, and in a
broader sense are normal people capable of being evil. The research question being asked was, How
would normal people react to being in a simulated prison environment? In Zimbardo s own words,
Suppose you had only kids who were normally healthy, psychologically and physically, and they knew
they would be going into a prison like environment and that some of their civil rights would be
sacrificed. Would those good people, (when) put in that bad, evil place (have) their goodness triumph?

I personally disagree and when I assert my conclusions at the end, I will explain why. Dehumanization
is taking away an individual s autonomy, their creative and unique aspects of their personality. The
experiment dehumanized all the participants by doing precisely this. By placing them in an artificial
controlled setting where variables were manipulated and allegedly made them act a certain way due to
assumed roles, they were not autonomous, i.e. dehumanized. If I were a prisoner, especially knowing
that it was only a simulation, I would have rebelled (as some prisoners did) and definitely not become
subordinate or tattled on my fellow prisoners. I know this as I have spent a few days in a real jail
before. While I was there I tried to avoid getting into trouble and the guards didn t provoke me. When
they stripped searched me however I asked the guard doing the search if he was a f**got. I guess I
didn t like someone having control over me like that. Had a guard this real situation provoked me,
even knowing the consequences, I probably would kick his ass. Furthermore, I know I wouldn t act
crazy, cry or puss out and act like my life was ending. I would probably treat this situation pretty
comically with a lot of sarcasm and would probably try to psych out the guards. On the other hand, if I
was a guard I definitely would not have been an asshole like about a third of the guards were, and I
wouldn t be a silent observer or accomplice like

Calcium Hardness And Shell Thickness
On the other hand, addition of probiotic had no significant effect (P 0.05) on shell hardness and shell
thickness and these were expected which have already been reported (Haddadin et al., 1996; Chen and
Chen 2003). Although, the increase of albumen quality wasn t significant (P 0.05), no reasonable
explanation can be offered for the improvement in albumen quality in the microbial additive groups.
Jensen et al. (1978) found significant improvements in interior egg quality which measured by Hough
Units in hens fed distillers feeds and corn fermentation soluble. Subsequent studies indicated that trace
elements was been involved (Jensen and Maurice, 1978). But Tortuero and Fernandez (1995)
described that the difference in plasma mineral concentration were not sufficient to implicate
supporting the hypothesis that trace elements were improved albumen quality with microbial
supplementation. Addition of probiotic had significant effect on egg yolk cholesterol (mg /g of yolk).
Haddadin et al. (1996) observed similar results. They reported that inclusion of probiotic lactobacillus
acidophilus in different ages (40, 44 and 48 week) affects egg cholesterol in 40 week of production not
44 and 48. These results have already been confirmed by Marks and Washburn (1991) reports.

The Control Of Nature By John Mcphee

Red Earth Science
The Control of Nature Essay
In the book, The Control of Nature by John McPhee, one can see humans in a multitude of locations
attempting to control the various aspects of their natural environment. Furthermore, it is clear that the
three enduring understandings of Earth Science are present throughout the book as an ongoing theme.
The first, the idea that energy, from the Sun and from Earth s interior, drives all of Earth s cycles and
processes, can be interpreted in many different ways. However, in the different sections of the book,
one sees that the Sun can cause weather patterns and can lead to different outcomes. Additionally, the
energy, or power, resulting from the intense heat and pressure from the Earth s interior, can cause
volcanic eruptions. As for the idea that matter moves through Earth s spheres in cyclical processes,
over varying periods of time, and at different scales, one can see that water, land, plant matter, and
even molten rock come and go in a definite period, whether it is thirty years, or even centuries. In
regards to the third idea, that Earth s surfaces and processes are altered by human engineering, one can
see a plethora of examples in the book. The energy from the Sun and from Earth s interior and the
events that are caused from that energy can cause humans to alter the surfaces and processes of Earth
by building everything from levees to basins and can even cause humans to make an attempt at
cooling flowing

Summary Of How The Irish Saved Civilization By Thomas Cahill
Thomas Cahill was born in 1940 in New York City to Irish American parents. Cahill was raised in
Bronx, New York, where he was educated by Jesuits and where he studied ancient Greek and Latin.
He then attended Fordham University in Bronx, where he continued his education on Greek and Latin
literature. Not only did Cahill study Greek and Latin, but he also studied medieval philosophy,
theology, and scripture. Cahill earned a B.A. in classical literature and philosophy. He continued his
education at Columbia University in New York, New York, where he got his M.F.A in dramatic and
film literature. Along with attending Fordham University and Columbia University, Cahill attended

Cahill makes ancient scenes come alive and generate a feeling of presence to his readers. For example,
the scene Cahill makes of the events near the Rhine River on December 31, 406. He paints the picture
of the barbarians and Romans on either side of the river. As the Romans and barbarians make contact,
Cahill makes the scene come alive. The Romans and barbarians make contact, but physical barriers
are also broken and removed. Cahill also does a great job of thoroughly explaining the events that
occurred at the time of Ireland s heroic role in western civilization. Although Cahill does do a great
job in explaining the events of Ireland and its role in the transformation of the western civilization, he
could have done it in a more exciting way. Yes, the way he did it got his point across nicely. But, he
could have done it differently, whether it have been portrayed through a personal account of someone
who lived in that time period or something that would catch the eye of more people. This book is of
much value to students of history, students who enjoy and study the events of history. For one thing, it
displays how people, nations, and cultures in history have overcome their hardships. It s a wonderful
example of how to continue forward, even when so much is going wrong. Through reading this book,
students can learn that life is not always a gentle breeze, where people can just sit back and embrace.
But, life comes with many obstacles, which people must overcome. Also, students can learn from the
mistakes made by people in the past. By learning about the how various mistakes were made, people
can try things differently in an attempt to not make the same mistakes. If people did not read about the
past and the mistakes made by those in the past, many errors of the past would more than likely be
repeated. People would not know of things

Justice And Justice In Shakespeare s The Merchant Of Venice
In Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice, there is a conflict between two understandings of justice
justice as the letter of the law and justice as mercy. Because this play is typically classified as a
comedy, it is natural to view the trial s ruling against Shylock as just, since this best fits in with the
genre of Comedy. My aim is to show that this interpretation is not without its problems, and is in fact
called into question by the text. I will accomplish this analyzing the legal aspects of the court s ruling
and the tribal behavior of the Venetian Christians, as well as taking a close look at the supposed mercy
shown by Antonio to Shylock. After dissecting these ideas, I will relate them to several modern
questions of justice and their accompanying tradeoffs.
Without further ado, et us meet our plaintiff turned defendant, Shylock. While his motives are
questionable (to say the least), Shylock does remain logical in his own defense, at one point saying:
Till thou canst rail the seal from off my bond,
Thou but offend st thy lungs to speak so loud.
Repair thy wit, good youth, or it will fall
To cureless ruin. I stand here for law.
(4.1.141 4) Here, Shylock stands firm in his argument, essentially asserting that his right to contract is
unassailable, regardless of the emotional attacks his Christian opponents throw at him. This is quite
representative of the trial as a whole: Shylock remains dispassionate and uses sound argument, while
his adversaries are emotional and

The Importance Of St. Bernard Of Clairvaux
Proverbs 5:23 says, For lack of discipline they will die, led astray by their own great folly (NIV). This
statement does not only seem to be the foundation of St. Bernard s teachings, but it is also provides a
glimpse to a life without Christian mysticism. St. Bernard of Clairvaux lived from 1090 1153 AD and
lived as a Cistercian abbot, acting as the mouthpiece for Christian mysticism during the Middle Ages.
Mysticism is defined, The spiritual discipline that enables an individual to experience union with God
or a divine principle (Quinn). Throughout St. Bernard s letters and teachings, he wanted the reader to
grasp the meaning and necessary steps to have an established relationship with Christ. St. Bernard of
Clairvaux was a mediator for Christian Mysticism because his teachings reflected mysticism s values
of discipline, obedience, and selflessness. St. Bernard stressed the importance of discipline, as it is not
only beneficial for someone to strengthen their relationship with Christ, but it is necessary for
someone to discipline themselves in order to draw closer to Christ. St. Bernard says in Some Letters of
Saint Bernard, Abbot of Clairvaux, Thus I have determined to follow him as master always and
everywhere, but on the condition never to deviate from the authority of the Rule, which, as he himself
is witness, I have sworn and determined to keep (St. Bernard). In this excerpt of St. Bernard, he is
illustrating that the person must refrain from things that are

The Importance Of Action In Advocacy
Action in Advocacy
To advocate for the standardization of educational requirements a tactical advocacy framework
utilizing Group Formulation is necessary to develop groups with the same goal (Stachowiak, 2013).
Choosing group formulation as an advocacy strategy aligns with my leadership philosophy of servant
leadership and ACA value of practicing in an ethical manner. I feel a need to fill a leadership gap and
find a way to assist the organization with being an agent of change, even if this means running for an
elected office in an association.
If I were elected the President of AASCB, I will have to maintain an ethical balance between the rights
of the state, protecting the community, and advancing the protection. Beginning this project ... Show

The process will take some time, as I will need to attend licensure board meetings to understand the
culture of the boards. Understanding the culture of the board will guide me towards the best approach
to recommend changes in current regulations. Utilizing the servant leadership approach, I will invite
other AASCB members with interest in standardizing the educational standards to attend licensure
board meetings and meetings. Incorporating other members of the group will empower them to serve
as leaders in their mesosystem, and creating a larger group of interested parties.
Funding
Advocacy is often seen as people speaking out for a compelling cause and the funding is often
overlooked. Oklahoma like other states is in a budget crisis and changing standards will have ripple
effects down to the microlevel, requiring schools in the state to obtain accreditation. The acceptance of
CACREP accredited education as the standard will make the credit requirements obsolete and require
programs to seek accreditation. This program impacts every level of professional counseling, it is
necessary to identify an appropriate funding source to promote and implement the changes to
standards at the state board level. Prior to presenting the issue to the leader of the licensure board, I
will ensure I outline sources of funding for this initiative.
The U.S. Department of Education is a useful source for funding of higher education

Kenya s Agriculture And Economics Of Kenya
Most people correlate Kenya to long distance runners, of the beginning of man, its plethora of
wildlife, and maybe Barack Obama. However, what they may have not contemplated was Kenya s
agriculture and how it has affected the culture and economics of Kenya. Tea, coffee, sisal, pyrethrum,
corn, and wheat are grown in the fertile highlands, one of the most successful agricultural production
regions in Africa. Production is mainly on small African owned farms formed from the division of
formerly European owned estates. Coffee in Kenya is big business, but it is grown mainly on small
farms by farmer s co ops working together. Looking into Kenya s past will help to clarify how coffee
became an agricultural commodity, and give insight into its beginnings. Before outsiders came into
Africa, the country now known as Kenya, was a nomadic area inhabited by Cushite people. It was not
until the first century B.C. when Arabic people came to the area as traders. They soon began to
colonize areas along the coast of the Indian Ocean. Also in the first century the Bantu began to settle
areas inland from the coast. It took Europeans over fourteen hundred more years to make their way to
Kenya. Kenya was now under the rule of the Portuguese. From the sixteenth until the nineteenth
century Kenya was an Islamic state, then it became a British colony. It was in the 19th century when
an eastern area of Africa becomes Kenya. In 1888, Kenya comes under British rule,

1. Start to practice with a rowing machine. Utilizing a rowing machine for training will provide you
with a bodybuilding routine that actually works 84 per cent of the muscle mass in the human body.
Make sure you feel at ease with your rowing workout. If you do that, then you will learn to understand
the concepts of rowing strategies. It is imperative that you accomplish that, before you attempt

component of a workout diet program that will help provide energy for your workout. Don t think that
eating a large meal is always bad. Starches are the primary fuel source used up in the course of
exercise. Therefore, it might be extremely important to devour starches before a workout of any sort to

The Consequences Of The Nature In Jack London sTo Build A...
[1] As depicted in Jack London s To Build a Fire, the Yukon proves to be a truly formidable wasteland.
The barren environment is comprised solely of unbroken white (London 65), the sun refuses to shine,
and, most saliently, the temperature measures 107 degrees below freezing. These factors render the
Yukon a harsh place through which to travel, especially as a lone voyager like the man, the story s
central character. Survival, however, is possible, and the man s success in this wilderness hinges
critically upon his ability to know more than just the facts of the Yukon. The man must imagine the
consequences of his actions. [2] London wastes no time informing the reader that the man s greatest
weakness is, in fact, his inability to imagine. In the work s opening paragraphs, we learn of the Yukon
s gray (London 64) austerity, indescribable darkness (London 64), and great cold (London 65). Yet,
what follows in a stark juxtaposition is that these conditions had no effect on the man and that the
trouble with him was that he was not able to imagine (London 65). Through this opening, London
establishes a framework by which the Yukon will test the man s ability to imagine the implications his
surroundings and actions entail. In To Build a Fire, the dog an embodiment of the Yukon environment
itself serves to illuminate how the man is quick and ready in the things of life (London 65), but fails to
imagine the consequences of his actions. As evidenced by the

The Discovery Of The Fossil Species Essay
Is there a subspecies of Homo sapiens that lived complete opposite lives as us? Did we cause them to
go extinct or did we live and interbreed with them? I will be discussing aspects of the species Homo
neanderthalensis who lived alongside Homo sapiens and may have even interbred with them. I will be
focusing specifically on the discovery of the fossil species, where the species is in the human ancestral
tree, anatomical similarities and differences with Homo sapiens, and the lifestyle and extinction of the
Neanderthals.
The first fossil found, named Neanderthal 1, was found in 1856 in Germany. The name Homo
neanderthalensis was suggested by Geologist William King, because the fossil was found in the
Feldhofer Cave of the Neander Valley in Germany and tal (a modern version of thal) means valley in
German. (Smithsonian) Some people refer to the species as Neandertal, with no h, to reflect modern
German spelling. Several years after Neanderthal 1 was found, scientists realized that earlier
discoveries in Engis, Belgium (1829) and Forbes Quarry, Gibraltar (1848) were also Neanderthals,
putting the actual discovery date at 1829. Other key specimens are Le Moustier, France (of a 45,000
year old skull which had Neanderthal features in an adolescent individual proving these characteristics
were genetic and not developed during their life), Lagar Velho in Abrigo do Lagar Velho, central
western Portugal (a 24,000 year old skeleton described as a Neanderthal Homo sapien hybrid),

Ancient Egypt And Greek Similarities
Ancient Egyptian and Ancient Greek civilizations both are two of the oldest studied civilizations in
our history that show up in our everyday live. The Ancient Egyptian civilization, that was centrally
located in Nile valley, is believed to have started/formed around 3150 BC and continued till the end of
the Pharaoh rule in 31 BC. The Ancient Greek civilization is thought to have started from 1100 BC till
about 146 BC. Many similarities and differences existed between these two civilizations, even though
they both were around during in the same timeframe (1150 BC to 146 BC), they were located in

Ancient Egyptian politics, thought the pharaoh was the main ruler of Egypt and the lower class did not

The biggest thing that sets these two apart are the differences in their art techniques. In Ancient Egypt

Argumentative Essay About Pennies
To American Citizens,
Chance are, you ve likely used a penny in your lifetime. Everywhere you look, you ll find pennies.
Between your couch cushions or on the street, pennies are everywhere. But have you ever thought,
how much do pennies cost, and why do we still use them? We need to get the United States Mint to
stop production of the penny and slowly take it out of circulation. This is only possible if we all band
together and demand a change in our currency.
Before we finally agree to do away with the penny, let s learn a little bit more about its history. The
penny, the first currency of any type authorized by the U.S. government, was initially struck in 1787,
though it didn t become legal tender until 1856. Since then, more than 300 billion one cent coins have
been minted. Abraham Lincoln became the first U.S. president to adorn a coin when he was put on the
penny in 1909 on the 100th anniversary of his birth (he wasn t added to the $5 bill until 1914). The
Lincoln penny was also the first to include the inscription In God We Trust ( Should We Eliminate the
Penny? ) If the penny seems like an ancient artifact, that s because it is. Pennies were made over 200
years ago. Don t you think in such a fluctuating and constantly changing economy, a newer form of
currency would be necessary?

The passage from Emma Donoghue s, The Tale of the Shoe, advances the idea that the struggle
between good and evil does not have to be presented through physical entities that it can be developed
through an internal conflict, which is shown through the use of agency and sensory experience.
In the well known Cinderella story the antagonists are the evil stepmother and her two daughters, an
external force that attempts to cause suffering for and to control Cinderella. Donoghue s version of the
story argues that this perception of evil is not the only one that exists that evil can come from an inner
source. This is expressed via the manipulation of agency. Although the story is told in third person
limited, the agency of other forces seeps into the narrative. The antagonists take the form of voices.
The voices become a character of their own they have the ability to ask questions and scold the
narrator, They asked why I was still alive (Donoghue 2). These voices force the protagonist to perform
the traditional chores that Cinderella does, Nobody made me do the things...The shrill ... Show more

The pain is caused by the evil within her and this restricts her. This restriction is seen with her speech,
Every word that came out of my mouth limped away like a toad (Donoghue 1). The fact that the story
opens with a line about the sensation of feeling or touch, Till she came it was all cold (Donoghue 1)
foreshadows that the she who comes will right all the wrongs with the protagonists touch or senses.
The evil within the narrator can only be solved with the help of the woman, who evokes the good part
of the senses. Sensory experience is re established as helpful with the sight of beauty and goodness,
from the woman from the fire, Her eyes had flames in their centers, and her eyebrows were silvered
with ash (Donoghue

Why I Want To Be A Dietitian
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to express myself. Dietitian has been something I have
always wanted to become. I am passionate about nutrition and health. I enjoy chemistry and food
related subjects and I am interested in working for the health service. During my first year in high
school, I have completed two weeks of shadowing with my dietitian uncle, at my hometown Jordan. I
enjoyed every part of this experience. It enabled me to explore how the dietitian and the patient
contact with each other, and how they both work together to set a plan to change the patient s
behavior. The average age of the majority of patients that I saw during my shadowing week was
between 30 and 50. Most of these patients were diagnosed with some form of

Later, membership would decrease rapidly in as many farmers would want to focus more on farm
cooperatives and put more effort into politics.
The Farmers Alliance, founded by Charles W. Macune in 1875, had similar focus as the National
Grange of the Patron Husbandry with the exception of the political effort of the Alliance. Surges of
farmers from the South and Midwest joined the Alliance movement in the year 1886, as tenancy rates
were the highest in those regions. Farmers were drawn to the Alliance because its goals aligned with
their livelihoods. The Alliance were advocates of government regulated transportation, (at the time
railroads could charge what over they chose to charge from day to day, and for farmers shipping crops

Both of them had experienced sufferings beyond what one can imagine. Dostoyevsky felt that
suffering gives one the chance of puri6cation and transformation. Through his many ordeals of
suffering, ranging from the near death of his sick children or his epileptic seizures, to his early
imprisonment and exile to Siberia, Dostoyevsky felt that he eventually reached the point of happiness
The way of salvation is the way of suffering could often be heard mumbled from Dostoyevsky s
mouth. For these reasons, critics believe that Raskolnikov may have been a direct symbol of
Dostoyevsky and his suffering. (Kjetsaa, 346 349)
Dostoyevsky most likely modeled Crime and Punishment after his own experiences. Since the two
men s lives had striking similarities, many people believed that was evidence to prove their thinking.
As Raskolnikov was overcome with tremendous suffering, sent to Siberia, and fell madly in love with
a beautiful woman; so did Dostoyevsky within his lifetime. I do believe that the character

Each mitochondrion has a double layered membrane like the cell membrane, however the inner layer
is folder which produces shelves which are known as cristae, this is where the end stages of glucose
oxidation are located. The energy that has been released is stored until required by a chemical battery
called adenosine triphosphate. Endoplasmic reticulum: Endo means with in and reticulum is a
complex word meaning network. There are two variations to endoplasmic reticulum (ER) which are
rough and smooth. The ER is a branching network which fills the cell interior; the channels are similar
to the cell membrane they create passageways for transporting materials to and from different parts of
the cell. Rough ER is studded with tiny black bodies known as ribosomes; they make cell protein and
act as a temporary storage area. Smooth ER has no attached ribosomes and is involved in the
metabolism of lipids or fats. (Studios, A. (2014). Golgi apparatus: This is a series of flattened, fluid
filled sacs stacked like pancakes. The Golgi apparatus is believed to package proteins for delivery to
other organelles; it is also responsible for producing lysosomes. Lysosomes: Lysosomes can be found
in all parts of the cell cytoplasm, they are also small vesicles produced by the Golgi apparatus. As

The Reasons Of The Cuba Embargo Against Cuba
Cuba embargo has failed. During the last 50 years, the United States government has maintained the

1962 because Fidel Castro confiscated many America businesses in Cuba. The Embargo did not get
the result for it was indented. Furthermore, the embargo has been failed policy and it should be lifted
immediately for three strong reasons. First, the embargo helps Castro to stay the power. Second it is
bad for American economy. Finally it is political incorrect.
The first reason to lift the America embargo against Cuba is because the embargo helps Fidel Castro to

Navajo Indian Tribe Research Paper
Navajo Indian Tribe Are Native Americans from the Southwestern United States. They are one of the

Navajo Indians Tribes because I would like to learn more about them. The Navajo s lived in domed
shaped houses with a wood frames called Hogan s with walls made of clay. The doors always faced

Native Americans grew: beans, corn, and squash. The Navajo began to farm sheep and goats as well

The Effects Of Nitrogen On The Dairy Industry
Nitrogen is one of the main biogeochemical elements, around which a cycle supports life on Earth.
Nitrogen can be found in many forms, one of which is nitrite, a toxic chemical that can produce severe
abnormalities in animals (Binta and Mushi, 2012). Nitrite is formed from nitrate by micro organisms
and bacteria present in soil, water, saliva, and the large intestine of most animals. These micro
organisms are present in high amounts in ruminants such as cows, which poses serious implications on
the dairy industry as nitrite poisoning, if nitrate levels are not closely monitored, can lead to the death
of large numbers of livestock as well as birth defects in calves. In ruminants, nitrate is reduced to
nitrite, and the rumen microbes utilize this nitrite by converting it into ammonia as a nitrogenous
source important in DNA production and synthesis of amino acids (Robson, 2007). Though, when
levels of nitrogen rise in excess, nitrite accumulates in rumen, and is then rapidly absorbed into the
bloodstream, then reacting with the ferrous form of haemoglobin to form met haemoglobin (met Hb)
(Sidhu et al., 2011). This is a serious issue as met Hb is a poor transporter of oxygen and the animal
suffers from oxygen deficiency. Nitrite poisoning has become more common over the past century as
application of nitrogen fertilizer to farmland improves both quality and yield of milk produced by
cattle (Sidhu et al., 2011). Nitrogen increases the levels of crude protein in forage, which

Through The Misty Panes And Thick Green Sea By Wilfred Owen
Owen continues writing, Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light, / As under a green sea, I
saw him drowning. / In all my dreams, before my helpless sight, / He plunges at me, guttering,
choking, drowning (13 16). These lines from Owen s poem emphasized the dreadful atrocity of WWI:
Chemical Warfare. The word pane means A framed sheet of glass in a window or door. Owen used the
word pane to describe the two clear glass lenses of the gas mask. The description by Owen of green
colored gas figuratively provides the reader an illusion of being underwater; however, chlorine gas
floating in the air is literally green in color (CDC). Chlorine gas kills its victims by reacting with water
in the lungs to form hydrochloric acid. This strong acid deteriorates the lining of the lungs and causes
its victims to drown while standing on dry land (Fitzgerald 613). Owen knew this particular soldier
was doomed because of the lethality of inhaling poisonous chlorine gas. Nonetheless, government
propagandists refused to reveal the horrifying reality of inhumane deaths caused by chemical warfare.
If this truth were disclosed, people would realize that soldiers were expendable objects with no
guarantees of a dignified death.
Owen states, If in some smothering dreams you too could pace / Behind the wagon that we flung him
in, /... (17 18). These lines described the carnage after a chemical attack. Even though the soldier was
dead and lying in a burial wagon, Owen

Homeless People And The Homeless Essay
Think about what it is like, not knowing where you will end up sleeping tonight, or when your next
meal or shower is going to be, according to the National Alliance to End Homelessness there were
about 600,000 homeless people in America in January of 2015. This paper will hopefully spread
insight on homelessness as a whole. There are many misconceptions about homeless people and many
facts that people do not realize about homeless people. These facts should be brought to attention in
order to help increase the knowledge of what normal everyday individuals can do to help. Every day
we are surrounded by someone who is homeless and we don t even know it. People tend to have a
false interpretation of what a homeless person looks like, the reasons for them becoming homeless,
and even how to help them.
There are many different factors that cause people to become homeless. The leading causes of
homelessness in America are not having enough affordable housing, a lack of income, unemployment,
poverty, and domestic violence. The reason people can become homeless can be the result of one
specific event which occurs, or it could be due to a kind of snowball effect which occurs, where one
small event leads to another and then another, until the end result is not having a house anymore.
While interviewing Katrina Knight, the executive director of Good Shephard Center for the Homeless,
she gave me a good example of this. In a situation where a couple splits up and there is only one

Social, Justice, Equality, And Social Justice
Social justice is mutually a practice and a goal. The goal of social justice is complete and equal
contribution by all people in a society that is equally designed to meet their needs. Social justice
allows for all members of society to be physically and psychologically safe and secure. It is a set of
values that allow us to understand what is right and wrong in our world regardless of race, culture and
economic status. That we take care of those in need of help, so that they can take care of themselves.
Social justice allows equal rights and opportunities to everyone in society. Economic justice is the
belief that we are all entitled to equal opportunities to work. That you receive equal pay for equal
work. That we have a fair and open job market. That even if you are an unskilled worker you can still
make a living wage. Economic justice is good for everyone because it allows for us to be able to buy
the goods made and keeps the economy steady. Social work supports the use an ecological and
systems approach to help people with their problems, however for a long time no one paid much
attention to the earth. Environmental justice also shines a light on racism and economic injustice.

Character Analysis of Sir Toby Belch in Shakespeare´s...
Comedy is by far the most influential factor in deciding whether or not a story is entertaining to its
audience, due to its ability to create a more relaxed and pleasurable environment in the plot. From the
playful awkwardness of Anne Shirley, to the witty banter of detectives Tommy and Tuppence, it is
evident that comedic characters have always been appreciated and acknowledged in literature. Sir
Toby Belch is but one of many amusing characters, and is by far one of the most humorous. While
Shakespeare s Twelfth Night is surrounded around an issue of romantic entanglement, Sir Toby s very

This is one of the most amusing scenes in the play, followed by Belch s famous attempt at getting Sir

serious love affair between Malvolio and Olivia to the events taking place behind the ever famous box

Gender Stereotypes In Australian Sport

When someone asks what demographics make you think of Australia you may hear many say beaches,

After the death of Malik Shah in 1092, Iran once again reverted to petty dynasties. During this time,
Genghis Khan brought together a number of Mongol tribes and led them on a devastating sweep
through China. Then, in 1219, he turned his 700,000 forces west and quickly devastated Bukhara,
Samarkand, Balkh, Merv, and Neyshabur. Before his death in 1227, he had reached western

The Human Brain Is An Interesting Artifact
There has only ever been one animal that has ever had dominion over all biodomes in the Earth. They
re all over the world, and have been since nearly the beginning of time. It seems like wherever and
whenever you look, this animal is there. Please allow for the introduction of the... DRAGON!!!
Dragons are seriously everywhere. But why? Why is it that nearly every culture developed the dragon
individually? Well, since they ve been around so long, it could, be argued that the dragon has been
hardwired into the human mind. The human brain is an interesting artifact. It can over complicate the
simple and make a mockery of the convoluted. It can understand something as easy as one two three
and as crazy as those confounding emotions. Speaking of which, what is emotion? Specifically, what
is fear? What makes someone feel fear? Scientifically speaking, ...fear is controlled by a small,
almond shaped structure called the amygdala. (Zielinski) Okay, so this little gland has the ability to
make anyone suddenly lose control of their cognition? Not quite, and not always. In a study done by
Justin Fienstein, John Wemmie, and a team of other graduate students from the University of Iowa, 3
patients who had suffered from a disease called Urbach Wiethe Disease were put to the test of feeling
fear. Urbach Wiethe damages the Amygdala, causing those who suffer from this disease to not feel
fear the way most people do. Even after having a patient do things that would make most everyone s

Diet Anyalsis Essay
Nutrition is the science that studies food and how food nourishes our body and influences our health.
In life, many people do a lot of daily events and activities that help them enjoy being who they are.
People may enjoy hanging out with friends, going to the mall, going to an amusement park or simply
finding relaxation in nature. However one vital part of everyones life is of eating and finding the right
way to do so. Eating is a very enjoyable and delectable for everyone but should be done so, like
everything in life, in a smart and intelligent way. Being smart and perceptive when eating is a large
part of nutrition. Throughout the Diet Analysis Project, I was able to analyze and inspect my diet to
examine what I was eating, what types of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will have to begin eating more carrots, egg yolk, broccoli, cantaloupe and drinking milk while doing
so, to increase my vitamin A (RAE) percentage. For my vitamin E percentage, milk and egg yolk will
help but I can also increase my whole grain foods and eat some sunflower seeds and nuts to get it up
where it needs to be. For my lacking vitamin D percentage I need to seriously increase my fatty fish
intake which is not difficult, due to my love of fish. Whole egg and beef liver will also both help in
getting more vitamin D in my diet.
My calorie intake overall was quite low equaling one thousand. My recommended intake was two
thousand. This wouldn t be as much of an issue if I was getting adequate exercise to burn the excess
calories and the calories I was consuming were equal to the calories I was burning. To correct this
through I will be increasing my exercise by running and lifting weights and ultimately once I start
boxing for a good period of time. I just recently started so Im looking forward to the improvements I
can make of that. Additionally I will need to watch high calorie foods and decrease my calorie intake
substantially.
Understanding that my body needs a certain number of calories to function at its prime, I realize that
when I do not eat enough, I can hurt my metabolism, lean tissue and weight management efforts. So I
made sure I

Judaism, Christianity, And Islam
The location where one encounters the divine demarcates itself from the rest of the world and
becomes a sacred place. The sacred connotes reverence and respect as illustrated in Exodus 3:5, where
the Lord told Moses: Do not come closer. Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which
you stand is holy ground. Whereas Jerusalem is just a common city in an ordinary man s eyes, this
viewpoint changes dramatically when it comes to a religious man. For the three monotheistic religions
of the West Judaism, Christianity and Islam, Jerusalem is considered one of the most important and
sacred places in the world. The land acquired its sanctity through numerous manifestations of the
divine in biblical times. Even though Jerusalem does not have extraordinary physical features of a city
in antiquity, it became widely renowned as a holy city. Romanian writer, religion historian Mircea
Eliade argues that space is not homogeneous (Eliade 1957:20) by proposing the term hierophany to
designate the act of manifestation of the sacred, and how it contributes to differentiating the sacred
from the profane. The book then describes an axis mundi, where the site of hierophany occurred, is
established to connect and communicate the heaven, the earth and the underworld through the center.
Further construction at axis mundi is typically done to consecrate the place. The building built is
referred to as an imago mundi, a representation of a miniature cosmos in the

Textual Analysis Maestro
The chapter 1968 contributes to a reading of Maestro focusing on the both the role music plays in the
Paul s development and the very nature of music itself. In this chapter, Paul undergoes emotional and
physical maturation, and his appreciation and comprehension of music is strongly tied with this
change. It in this chapter that he meets Rosie, his first love and future wife. Rosie represents Paul s
first experience of the adult world. She acts as a kind of conduit for his maturation. When teaching
her, he employs Keller s idiosyncratic techniques, which he had previously dismissed as juvenile and
worthless: Looser , I would counsel, repeating the clever phrases I had learned from Keller. This
demonstrates a change in Paul s attitude toward music, a transition from arrogance to maturity. ...

After losing his virginity, Paul gains a greater understanding of emotion: Each day my eyes seemed to
be opened just a little wider and more of that sun drenched town of lush gardens, scents, and sexuality
seem to cram itself in. Rich, sensual imagery is used to evoke a vibrant image of the scene. Sexuality
is personified and described as a force acting upon Paul, changing him. Paul relates these new
emotions to music: I was transported again to that same sensual, aching zone. The music seemed
nearer to lovemaking than to music ... and now I knew about lovemaking. Again, sensual language is
used to convey a strong sense of feeling. Following this, Paul seeks music full of emotion and power,
from Romantic composers Liszt and Rachmaninoff, as an output for these feelings, ignoring Keller s
regiment of rigid Classical music. In this instance, music plays a key role in Paul s emotional

Three Most Influential People In Ender s Game By Orson...
The Three Most Influential People in Ender s Life In the award winning novel Ender s Game by
Orson Scott Card there are many characters that influence Ender throughout his travels. Ender is
influenced in one way or another by just about every person he comes into contact with. Most of these
influences, however, are very subtle and do not make a direct or dramatic change in his life. There are
three main people that Ender spends a lot of time with that influence him the most. The first character
that influenced Ender was Peter, his older brother. All throughout their early childhoods, Peter would
force Ender into playing cruel games similar to cops and robbers or Cowboys and Indians, but this
was Buggers and humans. Ender was always the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was Ender s private teacher once he got to the I.F. Academy. He told Ender that he was the enemy
and never to trust him. Ender never knew when Mazar was going to turn on him or help him, and this
taught Ender to never trust anyone completely, because of this he became more self reliant and it kept
him on his toes. Mazar also taught Ender all of his knowledge on his defeat of the buggers in the
second invasion. Ender studied classified information and played the simulation game with his crew,
who, as it turned out, were all his good friends from battle school. Then all of a sudden it switched to
actual battles with the buggers with real lives at stake, but Ender was never told. Then finally, through
Mazar s wonderful teachings, Ender reached the final battle with the Buggers. Ender and his fleet
were outnumbered 10,000 to one. Ender thought it was incredibly unfair and thought that Mazar had
programmed the simulation. Also, with people in uniforms watching on, Ender felt uneasy. Finally he
decided that he didn t care what happened and it didn t matter, so he decided to fly in to the home
planet and use the largest and most powerful weapon. Ender blew up the planet and all of the
surrounding ships. At this point everyone in the room began cheering and Ender finally realized that
these simulations were actual battles in the final invasion of the Bugger home world. Ender learned
from Mazar to do his best under

The Grail Quest in the Play At the Hawk´S Well by W.B.Yeats
1 The Grail Quest in the Play At the Hawk s Well by William Butler Yeats A search for that which
gives meaning to life has always occupied human minds. The ancient scholars, philosophers, writers
and intellectuals devoted many years of their lives to find the answer. They created various theories
religious and philosophical to explain the system of the universe and find the source of all things. On
example of William Butler Yeats play At the Hawk s Well and Chretien s romance Le Conte du Graal I
shall show the way the both authors concern this subject. First, I shall give the historical background
of the play and explain the symbolic importance of Cuchulain for Yeats. Second, I shall find and
interpret the Celtic symbols in the play, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John Rhys advanced the theory that Gawain and Cuchulain is one character. He bases the theory on
similarity between their careers and on the fact that both possessed a specific quality their strength
waxed and waned with the rising and setting of the son (Matthews 29). John Matthews explains this
theory in detail in his book Sir Gawain: Knight of the Goddess. Loomis states that the Irish traditions
have reached the French through Wales and has no doubt that the Grail legend is a Celtic heritage
(Loomis Arthurian Tradition 341). The central symbol in the romance is the Grail. William Nitze and
Roger Loomis maintain the Celtic usage of the word, meaning dish or platter, which has the attribute
that whatever food was wished thereon was instantly obtained (Nitze 322). I assume the symbolic
reading of the symbol and come back to Yeats essay who saw it as a source of fertility and abundance
(Skene 126). The parallel appears clear. Both symbols have one semantic meaning in common, that is
of vessel. And both may be generally seen as vessels of energy. „There is no reason to be concerned
with the Grail as a physical object. It is simply not possible to know what it stands for precisely ,
writes Frederik Locke (9). He describes the Grail as „being multivalent, open on all sides to the power
of evocation (9). Locke holds a bold view: „In the

Irene Chrysafi Recommendation
It is with my highest honor that I write this letter of recommendation for Irene Chrysafi. I have had the
pleasure of working along side Irene for the past 2 years. If I were to choose one word to describe her,
it would be professional. Irene continues to awe those around her with her strong work ethic and
ability to always maintain a professional demeanor regardless of her environment. From observing her
classes, I have seen what a fluid lesson looks like and how a teacher s energy, coupled with the right
engagement practices, can lead an entire class in achieving all set learning targets. Students received
Irene openly and showed her a tremendous amount of respect, often echoing comments such as: Ms.
Chrysafi is so knowledgeable, Ms. Chrysafi

  • 2. Jealousy And Discrimination In Shakespeare s Othello People discriminate for many different reasons: terror, jealousy, the desire for power, or a need to dissociate themselves from other people. They can, thus, use someone s skin color (a hereditary trait that cannot be altered) to express their hatred. In Shakespeare s play Othello, Othello, is a happily wedded man and despite his African heritage, is a well respected general in the Venetian army. At the beginning of the play, Othello has not experienced any type of discrimination, as of yet. However, by Iago pointing out to Othello the existence of racist concepts and persuading him on taking action against the individuals who are presumably harboring racist fueled indignations, Iago successfully causes the ruin Othello and his wife Desdemona. Race is an issue throughout the play because of Iago s hatred towards Othello. Also, Iago oftentimes uses racial insults against Othello. Theses are images that one would expect to find in movie house, but environmental scientists tell us what is now a good setting for science fiction could soon be reality due to global warming. Environmental scientists warn that humans are not only making the Earth inhabitable for animals and plants, but that if humans continues with their current practices, the Earth will soon be inhabitable for humans as well. The real problem is that Republicans mistrust environmental science, and nowhere is there a clearer example of this mistrust than the hearing held by the Subcommittee on environmental regulation in 1995. SCIENTIFIC COURT A large component of the Republicans Contract with American was to establish a new paradigm for environmental policy and environmental law. Republicans believed that the environmental regulation that had happened in the United States lacked sound scientific evidence. They believed that in an effort to pass environmental regulation Democratic Congressmen, Senators, and the President had suppressed those scientists whose views undermined environmental science. As Democratic Congressmen George E. Brown stated, they (Republicans) allege that science, particularly environmental science, has been distorted to serve political purposes. 2 This Republican conviction became apparent when Republicans took over Capitol hill in 1994. Zimbardo Prison Experiment Stu Zimbardo Prison Experiments The Zimbardo prison experiment was set up to investigate the problem of what the psychological effects for normal people result from being a guard or inmate, and in a broader sense are normal people capable of being evil. The research question being asked was, How would normal people react to being in a simulated prison environment? In Zimbardo s own words, Suppose you had only kids who were normally healthy, psychologically and physically, and they knew they would be going into a prison like environment and that some of their civil rights would be sacrificed. I personally disagree and when I assert my conclusions at the end, I will explain why. Dehumanization is taking away an individual s autonomy, their creative and unique aspects of their personality. The experiment dehumanized all the participants by doing precisely this. By placing them in an artificial controlled setting where variables were manipulated and allegedly made them act a certain way due to assumed roles, they were not autonomous, i.e. dehumanized. If I were a prisoner, especially knowing that it was only a simulation, I would have rebelled (as some prisoners did) and definitely not become subordinate or tattled on my fellow prisoners. I know this as I have spent a few days in a real jail before. While I was there I tried to avoid getting into trouble and the guards didn t provoke me. When they stripped searched me however I asked the guard doing the search if he was a f**got. I guess I didn t like someone having control over me like that. Had a guard this real situation provoked me, even knowing the consequences, I probably would kick his ass. Furthermore, I know I wouldn t act crazy, cry or puss out and act like my life was ending. I would probably treat this situation pretty comically with a lot of sarcasm and would probably try to psych out the guards. Although, the increase of albumen quality wasn t significant (P 0.05), no reasonable explanation can be offered for the improvement in albumen quality in the microbial additive groups. Jensen et al. (1978) found significant improvements in interior egg quality which measured by Hough Units in hens fed distillers feeds and corn fermentation soluble. Subsequent studies indicated that trace elements was been involved (Jensen and Maurice, 1978). • 6. The Control Of Nature By John Mcphee Justin Li 9/25/14 Red Earth Science The Control of Nature Essay In the book, The Control of Nature by John McPhee, one can see humans in a multitude of locations attempting to control the various aspects of their natural environment. Furthermore, it is clear that the three enduring understandings of Earth Science are present throughout the book as an ongoing theme. The first, the idea that energy, from the Sun and from Earth s interior, drives all of Earth s cycles and processes, can be interpreted in many different ways. However, in the different sections of the book, one sees that the Sun can cause weather patterns and can lead to different outcomes. Additionally, the energy, or power, resulting from the intense heat and pressure from the Earth s interior, can cause volcanic eruptions. As for the idea that matter moves through Earth s spheres in cyclical processes, over varying periods of time, and at different scales, one can see that water, land, plant matter, and even molten rock come and go in a definite period, whether it is thirty years, or even centuries. In regards to the third idea, that Earth s surfaces and processes are altered by human engineering, one can see a plethora of examples in the book. The energy from the Sun and from Earth s interior and the events that are caused from that energy can cause humans to alter the surfaces and processes of Earth by building everything from levees to basins and can even cause humans to make an attempt at cooling flowing ... The Romans and barbarians make contact, but physical barriers are also broken and removed. Cahill also does a great job of thoroughly explaining the events that occurred at the time of Ireland s heroic role in western civilization. Although Cahill does do a great job in explaining the events of Ireland and its role in the transformation of the western civilization, he could have done it in a more exciting way. Yes, the way he did it got his point across nicely. But, he could have done it differently, whether it have been portrayed through a personal account of someone who lived in that time period or something that would catch the eye of more people. This book is of much value to students of history, students who enjoy and study the events of history. For one thing, it displays how people, nations, and cultures in history have overcome their hardships. It s a wonderful example of how to continue forward, even when so much is going wrong. Through reading this book, students can learn that life is not always a gentle breeze, where people can just sit back and embrace. But, life comes with many obstacles, which people must overcome. Also, students can learn from the mistakes made by people in the past. By learning about the how various mistakes were made, people can try things differently in an attempt to not make the same mistakes. • 8. Justice And Justice In Shakespeare s The Merchant Of Venice In Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice, there is a conflict between two understandings of justice justice as the letter of the law and justice as mercy. Because this play is typically classified as a comedy, it is natural to view the trial s ruling against Shylock as just, since this best fits in with the genre of Comedy. My aim is to show that this interpretation is not without its problems, and is in fact called into question by the text. I will accomplish this analyzing the legal aspects of the court s ruling and the tribal behavior of the Venetian Christians, as well as taking a close look at the supposed mercy shown by Antonio to Shylock. After dissecting these ideas, I will relate them to several modern questions of justice and their accompanying tradeoffs. Without further ado, et us meet our plaintiff turned defendant, Shylock. While his motives are questionable (to say the least), Shylock does remain logical in his own defense, at one point saying: Till thou canst rail the seal from off my bond, Thou but offend st thy lungs to speak so loud. Repair thy wit, good youth, or it will fall To cureless ruin. I stand here for law. (4.1.141 4) Here, Shylock stands firm in his argument, essentially asserting that his right to contract is unassailable, regardless of the emotional attacks his Christian opponents throw at him. This is quite representative of the trial as a whole: Shylock remains dispassionate and uses sound argument, while his adversaries are emotional and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This statement does not only seem to be the foundation of St. Bernard s teachings, but it is also provides a glimpse to a life without Christian mysticism. St. Bernard of Clairvaux lived from 1090 1153 AD and lived as a Cistercian abbot, acting as the mouthpiece for Christian mysticism during the Middle Ages. Mysticism is defined, The spiritual discipline that enables an individual to experience union with God or a divine principle (Quinn). Throughout St. Bernard s letters and teachings, he wanted the reader to grasp the meaning and necessary steps to have an established relationship with Christ. St. Bernard of Clairvaux was a mediator for Christian Mysticism because his teachings reflected mysticism s values of discipline, obedience, and selflessness. St. Bernard stressed the importance of discipline, as it is not only beneficial for someone to strengthen their relationship with Christ, but it is necessary for someone to discipline themselves in order to draw closer to Christ. St. Bernard says in Some Letters of Saint Bernard, Abbot of Clairvaux, Thus I have determined to follow him as master always and everywhere, but on the condition never to deviate from the authority of the Rule, which, as he himself is witness, I have sworn and determined to keep (St. Bernard). • 11. Kenya s Agriculture And Economics Of Kenya Most people correlate Kenya to long distance runners, of the beginning of man, its plethora of wildlife, and maybe Barack Obama. However, what they may have not contemplated was Kenya s agriculture and how it has affected the culture and economics of Kenya. Tea, coffee, sisal, pyrethrum, corn, and wheat are grown in the fertile highlands, one of the most successful agricultural production regions in Africa. Production is mainly on small African owned farms formed from the division of formerly European owned estates. Coffee in Kenya is big business, but it is grown mainly on small farms by farmer s co ops working together. Looking into Kenya s past will help to clarify how coffee became an agricultural commodity, and give insight into its beginnings. Before outsiders came into Africa, the country now known as Kenya, was a nomadic area inhabited by Cushite people. It was not until the first century B.C. when Arabic people came to the area as traders. They soon began to colonize areas along the coast of the Indian Ocean. Also in the first century the Bantu began to settle areas inland from the coast. It took Europeans over fourteen hundred more years to make their way to Kenya. Kenya was now under the rule of the Portuguese. From the sixteenth until the nineteenth century Kenya was an Islamic state, then it became a British colony. • 14. The Consequences Of The Nature In Jack London sTo Build A... [1] As depicted in Jack London s To Build a Fire, the Yukon proves to be a truly formidable wasteland. The barren environment is comprised solely of unbroken white (London 65), the sun refuses to shine, and, most saliently, the temperature measures 107 degrees below freezing. These factors render the Yukon a harsh place through which to travel, especially as a lone voyager like the man, the story s central character. Survival, however, is possible, and the man s success in this wilderness hinges critically upon his ability to know more than just the facts of the Yukon. The man must imagine the consequences of his actions. [2] London wastes no time informing the reader that the man s greatest weakness is, in fact, his inability to imagine. In the work s opening paragraphs, we learn of the Yukon s gray (London 64) austerity, indescribable darkness (London 64), and great cold (London 65). Yet, what follows in a stark juxtaposition is that these conditions had no effect on the man and that the trouble with him was that he was not able to imagine (London 65). Through this opening, London establishes a framework by which the Yukon will test the man s ability to imagine the implications his surroundings and actions entail. In To Build a Fire, the dog an embodiment of the Yukon environment itself serves to illuminate how the man is quick and ready in the things of life (London 65), but fails to imagine the consequences of his actions. Did we cause them to go extinct or did we live and interbreed with them? I will be discussing aspects of the species Homo neanderthalensis who lived alongside Homo sapiens and may have even interbred with them. I will be focusing specifically on the discovery of the fossil species, where the species is in the human ancestral tree, anatomical similarities and differences with Homo sapiens, and the lifestyle and extinction of the Neanderthals. The first fossil found, named Neanderthal 1, was found in 1856 in Germany. The name Homo neanderthalensis was suggested by Geologist William King, because the fossil was found in the Feldhofer Cave of the Neander Valley in Germany and tal (a modern version of thal) means valley in German. (Smithsonian) Some people refer to the species as Neandertal, with no h, to reflect modern German spelling. Several years after Neanderthal 1 was found, scientists realized that earlier discoveries in Engis, Belgium (1829) and Forbes Quarry, Gibraltar (1848) were also Neanderthals, putting the actual discovery date at 1829. Other key specimens are Le Moustier, France (of a 45,000 year old skull which had Neanderthal features in an adolescent individual proving these characteristics were genetic and not developed during their life), Lagar Velho in Abrigo do Lagar Velho, central western Portugal (a 24,000 year old skeleton described as a Neanderthal Homo sapien hybrid), ... Between your couch cushions or on the street, pennies are everywhere. But have you ever thought, how much do pennies cost, and why do we still use them? We need to get the United States Mint to stop production of the penny and slowly take it out of circulation. This is only possible if we all band together and demand a change in our currency. The penny, the first currency of any type authorized by the U.S. government, was initially struck in 1787, though it didn t become legal tender until 1856. Since then, more than 300 billion one cent coins have been minted. Abraham Lincoln became the first U.S. president to adorn a coin when he was put on the penny in 1909 on the 100th anniversary of his birth (he wasn t added to the $5 bill until 1914). Tale Of The Shoe Internal Conflict The Tale of the Shoe : The Tale of a Struggle Within The passage from Emma Donoghue s, The Tale of the Shoe, advances the idea that the struggle between good and evil does not have to be presented through physical entities that it can be developed through an internal conflict, which is shown through the use of agency and sensory experience. In the well known Cinderella story the antagonists are the evil stepmother and her two daughters, an external force that attempts to cause suffering for and to control Cinderella. Donoghue s version of the story argues that this perception of evil is not the only one that exists that evil can come from an inner source. This is expressed via the manipulation of agency. Although the story is told in third person limited, the agency of other forces seeps into the narrative. The antagonists take the form of voices. The voices become a character of their own they have the ability to ask questions and scold the narrator, They asked why I was still alive (Donoghue 2). These voices force the protagonist to perform the traditional chores that Cinderella does, Nobody made me do the things...The shrill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fact that the story opens with a line about the sensation of feeling or touch, Till she came it was all cold (Donoghue 1) foreshadows that the she who comes will right all the wrongs with the protagonists touch or senses. The evil within the narrator can only be solved with the help of the woman, who evokes the good part of the senses. Sensory experience is re established as helpful with the sight of beauty and goodness, from the woman from the fire, Her eyes had flames in their centers, and her eyebrows were silvered with ash (Donoghue ... • 29. The Effects Of Nitrogen On The Dairy Industry Nitrogen is one of the main biogeochemical elements, around which a cycle supports life on Earth. Nitrogen can be found in many forms, one of which is nitrite, a toxic chemical that can produce severe abnormalities in animals (Binta and Mushi, 2012). Nitrite is formed from nitrate by micro organisms and bacteria present in soil, water, saliva, and the large intestine of most animals. These micro organisms are present in high amounts in ruminants such as cows, which poses serious implications on the dairy industry as nitrite poisoning, if nitrate levels are not closely monitored, can lead to the death of large numbers of livestock as well as birth defects in calves. In ruminants, nitrate is reduced to nitrite, and the rumen microbes utilize this nitrite by converting it into ammonia as a nitrogenous source important in DNA production and synthesis of amino acids (Robson, 2007). Though, when levels of nitrogen rise in excess, nitrite accumulates in rumen, and is then rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream, then reacting with the ferrous form of haemoglobin to form met haemoglobin (met Hb) (Sidhu et al., 2011). This is a serious issue as met Hb is a poor transporter of oxygen and the animal suffers from oxygen deficiency. Nitrite poisoning has become more common over the past century as application of nitrogen fertilizer to farmland improves both quality and yield of milk produced by cattle (Sidhu et al., 2011). Through The Misty Panes And Thick Green Sea By Wilfred Owen Owen continues writing, Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light, / As under a green sea, I saw him drowning. / In all my dreams, before my helpless sight, / He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning (13 16). These lines from Owen s poem emphasized the dreadful atrocity of WWI: Chemical Warfare. The word pane means A framed sheet of glass in a window or door. Owen used the word pane to describe the two clear glass lenses of the gas mask. The description by Owen of green colored gas figuratively provides the reader an illusion of being underwater; however, chlorine gas floating in the air is literally green in color (CDC). Chlorine gas kills its victims by reacting with water in the lungs to form hydrochloric acid. This strong acid deteriorates the lining of the lungs and causes its victims to drown while standing on dry land (Fitzgerald 613). Owen knew this particular soldier was doomed because of the lethality of inhaling poisonous chlorine gas. Nonetheless, government propagandists refused to reveal the horrifying reality of inhumane deaths caused by chemical warfare. If this truth were disclosed, people would realize that soldiers were expendable objects with no guarantees of a dignified death. The leading causes of homelessness in America are not having enough affordable housing, a lack of income, unemployment, poverty, and domestic violence. The reason people can become homeless can be the result of one specific event which occurs, or it could be due to a kind of snowball effect which occurs, where one small event leads to another and then another, until the end result is not having a house anymore. It is a set of values that allow us to understand what is right and wrong in our world regardless of race, culture and economic status. That we take care of those in need of help, so that they can take care of themselves. Social justice allows equal rights and opportunities to everyone in society. Economic justice is the belief that we are all entitled to equal opportunities to work. That you receive equal pay for equal work. That we have a fair and open job market. That even if you are an unskilled worker you can still make a living wage. Here s an overweening rouge (II v 27) and O for a stone bow to hit him in the eye! (II v 43) are samples of the remarks made by Sir Toby while he observes Malvolio in hiding. Dragons are seriously everywhere. But why? Why is it that nearly every culture developed the dragon individually? Well, since they ve been around so long, it could, be argued that the dragon has been hardwired into the human mind. The human brain is an interesting artifact. It can over complicate the simple and make a mockery of the convoluted. It can understand something as easy as one two three and as crazy as those confounding emotions. Speaking of which, what is emotion? Specifically, what is fear? What makes someone feel fear? Scientifically speaking, ...fear is controlled by a small, almond shaped structure called the amygdala. (Zielinski) Okay, so this little gland has the ability to make anyone suddenly lose control of their cognition? Not quite, and not always. In a study done by Justin Fienstein, John Wemmie, and a team of other graduate students from the University of Iowa, 3 patients who had suffered from a disease called Urbach Wiethe Disease were put to the test of feeling fear. Urbach Wiethe damages the Amygdala, causing those who suffer from this disease to not feel fear the way most people do. Even after having a patient do things that would make most everyone s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will have to begin eating more carrots, egg yolk, broccoli, cantaloupe and drinking milk while doing so, to increase my vitamin A (RAE) percentage. For my vitamin E percentage, milk and egg yolk will help but I can also increase my whole grain foods and eat some sunflower seeds and nuts to get it up where it needs to be. For my lacking vitamin D percentage I need to seriously increase my fatty fish intake which is not difficult, due to my love of fish. Whole egg and beef liver will also both help in getting more vitamin D in my diet. My calorie intake overall was quite low equaling one thousand. My recommended intake was two thousand. This wouldn t be as much of an issue if I was getting adequate exercise to burn the excess calories and the calories I was consuming were equal to the calories I was burning. To correct this through I will be increasing my exercise by running and lifting weights and ultimately once I start boxing for a good period of time. I just recently started so Im looking forward to the improvements I can make of that. Additionally I will need to watch high calorie foods and decrease my calorie intake substantially. Understanding that my body needs a certain number of calories to function at its prime, I realize that when I do not eat enough, I can hurt my metabolism, lean tissue and weight management efforts. • 44. Judaism, Christianity, And Islam The location where one encounters the divine demarcates itself from the rest of the world and becomes a sacred place. The sacred connotes reverence and respect as illustrated in Exodus 3:5, where the Lord told Moses: Do not come closer. Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you stand is holy ground. Whereas Jerusalem is just a common city in an ordinary man s eyes, this viewpoint changes dramatically when it comes to a religious man. For the three monotheistic religions of the West Judaism, Christianity and Islam, Jerusalem is considered one of the most important and sacred places in the world. The land acquired its sanctity through numerous manifestations of the divine in biblical times. Even though Jerusalem does not have extraordinary physical features of a city in antiquity, it became widely renowned as a holy city. Romanian writer, religion historian Mircea Eliade argues that space is not homogeneous (Eliade 1957:20) by proposing the term hierophany to designate the act of manifestation of the sacred, and how it contributes to differentiating the sacred from the profane. The book then describes an axis mundi, where the site of hierophany occurred, is established to connect and communicate the heaven, the earth and the underworld through the center. Further construction at axis mundi is typically done to consecrate the place. The building built is referred to as an imago mundi, a representation of a miniature cosmos in the ... • 45. Textual Analysis Maestro The chapter 1968 contributes to a reading of Maestro focusing on the both the role music plays in the Paul s development and the very nature of music itself. In this chapter, Paul undergoes emotional and physical maturation, and his appreciation and comprehension of music is strongly tied with this change. It in this chapter that he meets Rosie, his first love and future wife. Rosie represents Paul s first experience of the adult world. She acts as a kind of conduit for his maturation. When teaching her, he employs Keller s idiosyncratic techniques, which he had previously dismissed as juvenile and worthless: Looser , I would counsel, repeating the clever phrases I had learned from Keller. This demonstrates a change in Paul s attitude toward music, a transition from arrogance to maturity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After losing his virginity, Paul gains a greater understanding of emotion: Each day my eyes seemed to be opened just a little wider and more of that sun drenched town of lush gardens, scents, and sexuality seem to cram itself in. Rich, sensual imagery is used to evoke a vibrant image of the scene. Sexuality is personified and described as a force acting upon Paul, changing him. Paul relates these new emotions to music: I was transported again to that same sensual, aching zone. The music seemed nearer to lovemaking than to music ... and now I knew about lovemaking. Again, sensual language is used to convey a strong sense of feeling. Following this, Paul seeks music full of emotion and power, from Romantic composers Liszt and Rachmaninoff, as an output for these feelings, ignoring Keller s regiment of rigid Classical music. In this instance, music plays a key role in Paul s emotional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Three Most Influential People In Ender s Game By Orson... The Three Most Influential People in Ender s Life In the award winning novel Ender s Game by Orson Scott Card there are many characters that influence Ender throughout his travels. Ender is influenced in one way or another by just about every person he comes into contact with. Most of these influences, however, are very subtle and do not make a direct or dramatic change in his life. There are three main people that Ender spends a lot of time with that influence him the most. The first character that influenced Ender was Peter, his older brother. All throughout their early childhoods, Peter would force Ender into playing cruel games similar to cops and robbers or Cowboys and Indians, but this was Buggers and humans. Ender was always the ... Ender never knew when Mazar was going to turn on him or help him, and this taught Ender to never trust anyone completely, because of this he became more self reliant and it kept him on his toes. Mazar also taught Ender all of his knowledge on his defeat of the buggers in the second invasion. Ender studied classified information and played the simulation game with his crew, who, as it turned out, were all his good friends from battle school. Then all of a sudden it switched to actual battles with the buggers with real lives at stake, but Ender was never told. Then finally, through Mazar s wonderful teachings, Ender reached the final battle with the Buggers. Ender and his fleet were outnumbered 10,000 to one. Ender thought it was incredibly unfair and thought that Mazar had programmed the simulation. Also, with people in uniforms watching on, Ender felt uneasy. Finally he decided that he didn t care what happened and it didn t matter, so he decided to fly in to the home planet and use the largest and most powerful weapon. Ender blew up the planet and all of the surrounding ships. At this point everyone in the room began cheering and Ender finally realized that these simulations were actual battles in the final invasion of the Bugger home world. • 47. The Grail Quest in the Play At the Hawk´S Well by W.B.Yeats 1 The Grail Quest in the Play At the Hawk s Well by William Butler Yeats A search for that which gives meaning to life has always occupied human minds. The ancient scholars, philosophers, writers and intellectuals devoted many years of their lives to find the answer. They created various theories religious and philosophical to explain the system of the universe and find the source of all things. On example of William Butler Yeats play At the Hawk s Well and Chretien s romance Le Conte du Graal I shall show the way the both authors concern this subject. First, I shall give the historical background of the play and explain the symbolic importance of Cuchulain for Yeats. Second, I shall find and interpret the Celtic symbols in the play, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... John Rhys advanced the theory that Gawain and Cuchulain is one character. He bases the theory on similarity between their careers and on the fact that both possessed a specific quality their strength waxed and waned with the rising and setting of the son (Matthews 29). John Matthews explains this theory in detail in his book Sir Gawain: Knight of the Goddess. Loomis states that the Irish traditions have reached the French through Wales and has no doubt that the Grail legend is a Celtic heritage (Loomis Arthurian Tradition 341). The central symbol in the romance is the Grail. William Nitze and Roger Loomis maintain the Celtic usage of the word, meaning dish or platter, which has the attribute that whatever food was wished thereon was instantly obtained (Nitze 322). I assume the symbolic reading of the symbol and come back to Yeats essay who saw it as a source of fertility and abundance (Skene 126). The parallel appears clear. Both symbols have one semantic meaning in common, that is of vessel. And both may be generally seen as vessels of energy. „There is no reason to be concerned with the Grail as a physical object. It is simply not possible to know what it stands for precisely , writes Frederik Locke (9). He describes the Grail as „being multivalent, open on all sides to the power of evocation (9). Locke holds a bold view: „In the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Irene Chrysafi Recommendation It is with my highest honor that I write this letter of recommendation for Irene Chrysafi. I have had the pleasure of working along side Irene for the past 2 years. If I were to choose one word to describe her, it would be professional. Irene continues to awe those around her with her strong work ethic and ability to always maintain a professional demeanor regardless of her environment. From observing her classes, I have seen what a fluid lesson looks like and how a teacher s energy, coupled with the right engagement practices, can lead an entire class in achieving all set learning targets. Students received Irene openly and showed her a tremendous amount of respect, often echoing comments such as: Ms. Chrysafi is so knowledgeable, Ms. Chrysafi ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
