Pediatric National Health Service ( Nhs )
Introduction
In 2013, surgeon specific outcome data were made publicly available across a range of surgical
specialties by the English National Health Service (NHS). This initial stimulus was the Kennedy
Inquiry in 2001, whereby two surgeons were disciplined for having mortality rates that exceeded the
norm, and led to the reporting of surgeon specific mortality data for all cardiothoracic surgery units in
the UK (1). Following this, mounting pressures for increased transparency and disclosure within
healthcare arose, stemming from instances such as the 2005 Freedom of Information Act request filed
by the Guardian newspaper and the Francis report (2). These led to the eventual publication of
Surgeon specific mortality data (SSMD), presenting the crude risk adjusted mortality rates for
individual surgeons over a number of surgical procedures. Besides the stated aim of increasing
transparency, further drivers of SSMD publication were to enhance patient safety by enabling the
detection of underperforming surgeons regarded as outliers , deliver improved data for healthcare
commissioners, and to aid the public in making informed decisions about their care (3). However,
since its release there has been much controversy surrounding the meaningfulness of SSMD due to its
potential negative impact (4).
Concerns over the quality of the data have been raised as the initial SSMD was derived from existing
national surgical audit databases. However, the designs of these audits were not

that discriminate against gay employees and some of the NFL teams are sort within the state or local
law prohibiting. Currently in the league there are 13 NFL teams are under local law, 12 NFL teams
that have nondiscrimination laws, and 7 other teams are no state or local law in the NFL. Sam was
going to play for the St. Louis Rams which means it was a local law and would be under and thus
subjected to discriminatory laws based on sexual orientation. He played for the NFL and did well yet
he was cut from the team and no reason was given from his cut as of now Michael Sam play in the

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Hallucinations Essay
INTRODUCTION
Hallucinations are one of the most intriguing secrets of the mind, which are characterized by false
visions, sounds, taste, smell, and touch that can occur when one is awake; it has a sufficient sense of
reality, but one has no control over it. Hallucinations are the form of perception. There is no particular
part of the brain that is involved in hallucinating. For example, people seeing faces could have a
hyperactivity in fusiform face area involved in facial recognition. People with hyperactivity in the
auditory cortex might experience auditory hallucinations: hearing music, or voices, that are not there.
Hallucinations can be frightening, strange, or even amusing and divine. There are numerous causes of
hallucinations: they are usually experienced by people with schizophrenia, Charles Bonnet syndrome,
Parkinson s disease, or other psychological and mental disorders. However, hallucinations can also be
experienced by healthy individuals, who are the subjects for studying the nature and causes of
hallucinations, as they do not interact with other symptoms like in patients with schizophrenia.
Researchers use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans to track the brain activities
during hallucinations. The aim of this research paper is to describe several types of hallucinations,
ways of studying hallucinations, and possible treatments.
DISCUSSION
1. Emotional hallucinations Hallucinations do not have to be vivid; one of the most

Alexander Hamilton was one of the key, founding figures of the Federalist, a political party who
believed in a strong, national government. However, Aaron Burr considered himself a Democratic
Republican, a political party who favored for the states to have more power than the national
government; in other words, both men believed in the exact opposite for the government of the United
States. As a result, Hamilton and Burr disagreed on many things, resulting in a great amount of
animosity towards each other. The duel was held on Wednesday, July 11, 1804 in Weehawken, New
Jersey. The choice of weapon for the duel was a pistol chosen by Hamilton since he was the one
challenged. Again since he was the challenged, Hamilton had the choice of position, so he chose a
place located upstream. However, that would include one of many mistakes that would cost him his
life. As both men shot at each other, only one was hit. Shot in a fatal location, Hamilton was hit on his
right side, right above his hip. Ellis states, Hamilton himself recognized his own condition almost
immediately...Meanwhile, Burr seemed surprised and regretful at the outcome of his shot (25). The
two eyewitnesses at the time, Pendleton and Van Ness, decided to make a Joint Statement in which
they stated that both men upheld the code duello ,

To Kill A Mockingbird And A Separate Peace By John Knowles
The informed, written analysis and evaluation of a work of literature is known as literary criticism,
which is based on a literary theory. An examples of such a literary theory is intertextual criticism,
involving the comparison of two separate novels. Written by Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird is
comparable to A Separate Peace by John Knowles. Both novels are fictitious and showcase universal
symbols, themes, characters, and numerous other literary devices utilized by authors. Similarities
between these two novels are exhibited by the author s use of a tree as a symbol for life and death, the
victim, archetype, and weather as a symbol for change. One reoccurring symbol is the representation
of a tree as a symbol for life and death. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In A Separate Peace, the Super Suicide Society, in which the boys at Devon jumped off the tree into
the creek, serving as a cementation of Gene and Finny s friendship. The activities on the tree provided
an outlet of fun during the boys lives at school and during the war. But, the very same tree led to Finny
s death, and Gene s figurative death, making it a symbol of the contrast between life and death. The
victim archetype is displayed in the characters of both novels. During the trial, Tom says to Mr.
Gilmer, no suh, scared I d hafta face up to what I didn t do (Lee 225). Upon being asked why Tom ran
away if he was innocent, he replies that he didn t want to be wrongfully convicted, which is exactly
what unfolds. Despite his credible testimony and the clear evidence of Bob and Mayella s lies, Tom
must suffer for the wrongdoings of the Ewells, with virtually no escape from his fate. Because of the
instilled prejudice into society, Tom is ostracized by the townspeople. Similarly, Phineas suffers
physically when Gene states that my knees bent and I jounced the limb. Finny...broke through the little
branches below and hit the bank with a sickening, unnatural thud...one of his legs had been shattered
(Knowles 60 61). Overcome by jealousy, Gene causes Finny to suffer through physical pain in the
months to come. Due to someone else s impulsive, but intentional, actions,

How Does American Apparel Portray Women
In advertising, companies tend to use images in which they believe will help to promote and sell their
product. One of the most common techniques that is seen in today s society is the stereotypical
portrayal of women, who tend to pose rather promiscuously as seen in Figure One. These types of
images portray women as sex objects or as submissive housewives to their husbands. This comes into
context with the advertising in which American Apparel portrays.
American Apparel has drawn a lot of attention for their marketing techniques as well as advertising.
One of the most controversial aspects to the company is its sexualization, objectification and
exploitation of women as well as the pressure the brand places on individuals to conform to normative

American Apparel is well known for its provocative imagery, artistic photograph and their attitude on
free expression within the fashion industry, but it is clear that to a certain extent American Apparel
crosses the line by objectifying and demeaning women (Martha De Lacey , 2013). This clearly has an
influence on young girls in today s society who glance through American Apparel s advertisements
and may have also added to the increase in mental and physical health as well as young girls
confidence. According to statistics, eating disorders have increasingly become an issue in society
today as well as the media s sexualized images of women are constant reminders of what society
wants all girls to be like. One of the many examples would be Figure

`` Much Madness Is The Divinest Sense `` By Emily Dickinson
Poet of Paradox
The Belle of Amherst, The Woman in White, or The Most Paradoxical of Poets...who can say which
pseudonym is most becoming of the late great Emily Dickinson. By virtue of the multitudinous
biographical literary works, moreover the wondrous intimacy of Dickinson s poetry, one could
surmise that as readers we comprehend her entirely: yet the most prevalent experience borne from
reading Emily s work, especially if her poems are read successively, is that we come away feeling as
though we know nothing at all. Like no author before her and very few after her, Emily Dickinson
divulges her hearts hidden secrets while recording what is inexorably one of the most conscientious
explorations of the human consciousness ever attempted. Dickinson is known posthumously for her
unusual use of form and syntax, but it was her pervasive themes of immortality, death, and madness in
her poems that would canonize her as an indelible American character.
In Much Madness is the divinest Sense, Dickinson emphatically establishes a theme of madness
within the context of the poem. This poem is rather difficult to read and not feel that it is inspirited by
Dickinson s own life of reclusion, which many have presented as a symptom of her insanity. Much
Madness is the divinest Sense discombobulates the notion of what s crazy and what s not, it s a piece
for every person who has ever pondered Am I insane...or is the world completely mad? Dickinson
poignantly reveals how what is accepted

How Was Political Grandeur And Dignity Articulated Through...
How was political grandeur and dignity articulated through early 19th century civic architecture in
Paris? Use specific examples.
In the wake of the French revolution and King Louis XVI of France s execution in 1773, 19th century
France was a time of immense political, economic and social uncertainty as new political parties
competed for power and attempted to reform Frances governing systems. The civil architecture and
forms that were built during this period reflect these upheavals, as commissioned architects turned to
new styles, city plans and construction methods in order to serve the political ambitions of the
governing party. Architecture provided a means of articulating political grandeur and dignity both
clearly and creatively, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the instabilities caused by the Napoleonic Wars a new style of architecture did not develop
during Napoleons rule, resulting in the continuation of pre French Revolution classicism. With the
intention of articulating imperialistic grandeur and referencing France as the new Roman Empire , an
emphasis was placed on neoclassical elements and the use of columns and arches becoming more
liberal. Jean Chalgrin s Arch de Triomphe provides an example of politically motivated neoclassical
architecture. The triumphant arch was commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 to serve as an honorary
monument and rallying point for the French military . Inspired in part by the Arch of Titus in the
Roman Forum, decorative high relief sculptures celebrating military victories from the French
Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars adorn the structure . It is evident that Napoleon believed that as
an empire that had annexed and made most of Europe into its satellites, the First French Empire
deserved to have its grandeur reflected by a monument that referenced one of the world s largest and
most successful ancient Empires. Through large and imposing monumental structures, Napoleon
sought to reminded French society of the military and political successes that had been achieved under
his rule and consequently idealise his leadership, The First

Science And Science In John Wesson s The Science Of Soccer
Science is everywhere. John Wesson has proved that to many through his famous book, The Science
of Soccer. This book links both soccer and science together. Throughout this story the simple idea of
soccer will turn into a more complex version of science. Wesson teaches the readers about how
something so simple, like a ball bouncing, can relate to the more in depth laws of physics. While
reading this book one can learn what soccer really is, how science is described, and how science and
soccer are related. A common question in many young minds is, What is soccer? . In the words of
Wesson, Soccer s superiority derives from two sources, variety and continuity. At each point in the
game the players are faced with a wide range of options take the ball past the opponent on this side or
that, to pass short or long, low or high, to shoot or to lay the ball off and to whom (Wesson 85). Soccer
is a physical and mental sport. It is played with your feet, however, it is the mind that does most of the
hard work. It is also a team sport. It consists of dribbling, passing, kicking, and much more.
Sometimes there will be a bounce that must be trapped, and others there will be moves needed to blow
by a defender. The game varies. For instance, the book also reads, The ball is kicked in a variety of
ways according to the circumstances. For a slow accurate pass the ball is pushed with the flat inside
face of the foot. For a hard shot the toes are dipped and the ball is struck

Donatello s Accomplishments
Born Donato di Niccoló di Betto Bardi in 1386, Donatello was one of the most influential sculptors of
fifteenth century Italy, his work was a stepping stone for the rebirth of art. Although his work is almost
600 years old, it is still held in very high esteem today (Funk and Wagnalls). Some of his defining
pieces include The Feast of Herod, his bronze statue of David, and Gattamelata; these pieces made
such a big impact on the Renaissance that we can still feel tremors today, making Donatello one of the
best artists of all time. In 1427, Donatello crafted The Feast of Herod; it was a relief for the baptismal
font in the Siena Cathedral in Italy, where it is still housed today. The Feast of Herod is a bronze relief
that depicts a slave of Herod s presenting the severed head of John the Baptist to Salome (World
Biography). The piece is amazing and had a big impact on the Renaissance because Donatello created
a very dramatic scene on such a shallow space. In the foreground, we have the severed head being
presented and the people reacting with very deep emotion; while in the background people are just

The statue was a portrayal of Erasmo da Nami who was a military hero in Padua, where the statue was
created and remains today (Funk and Wagnalls). Gattamelata was a stepping stone for sculpting. It
was not only the first equestrian statue of the Renaissance, but also an amazing sculpture because it
was done in bronze and was such a big project. It took Donatello nearly 3 years to complete and
nearly another 3 to get it displayed in the public. It took so long to get displayed, because bronze
equestrian statues used to be reserved for Roman nobility, and it took time to break the tradition (A
Guide to Italian Renaissance Art and Architecture). The statue is considered to be the basis for every

Regional Hometown Races would regionalize the television broadcasts, begin co branding with

broadcasts are fought over and highly respected in any community. National networks broadcast the
most major sporting events while the localized broadcasts may show the local minor league teams,

they could not report to him quickly which had then meant that General Lee still did not even know

Sexually Transmitted Disease Among Teenagers
After reading Meeker s (2004) book and reflection upon Meeker s psychologically, spiritually, and

Theme Of The Storm By Kate Chopin
The Storm
Kate Chopin died in 1904, 16 years before women received the right to vote. She was raised by
mother s family, aristocratic Creoles and married a Creole cotton broker from New Orleans. They

to writing. In defiance of her time, she wrote frank descriptions of women s sexual desires. She also
usually set her stories in Louisiana. Her use of setting has caused to be known as regional writer. An
excellent example of her frank descriptions and regionalism is her short story, The Storm. The Storm,
is about a woman who has an affair while rain storm rolls in in rural Louisiana. Within the story,
Chopin uses her setting to establish the story s, characterization and symbolism. The Storm uses its

The storm s building tension, climax and retreat perfectly mirrors Calixta sexual desires. Although the
reader first encounters the storm in the first chapter; it is in the second chapter with Calixta that one

However, after she undoes her collar of her dress; exposing her Décolletage; an arguably a sensual

When Alcée and Calixta first join, the storm is raging outside and when their union is over; so is the

Rhetorical Analysis of The Killer Instinct
Rhetorical analysis of The Killer Instinct (January 2000) The Killer Instinct is an article published in A
Monthly Journal of Religion Public Life by Institute on Religion Public life in January 2000. This
journal, which started from 1998, contains various articles with opinions, arguments, debates and
commentary on religious and moral questions, and social issues going in American society. Thomas
Sally, a poet and a writer, argues in the article that it s the nature of boys who constructs them rough
and not the toys that create them violent. She argues with various examples from her friends and even
from her own experience throughout the article making clear sense of support to her argument. This
article by Thomas Sally is a successful argument appealing toward its audience with a clear and strong
use of reasoning(logos), emotion(pathos) and authority(ethos) . Thomas Sally s appeal to logic is the
strongest persuasive proof to her argument. The motive for her use of reasoning is strong due to the
explanation of suitable examples from her real life experience on the subject. Thomas Sally explains,
by reasoning, at the beginning paragraphs that a boy enjoys the warlike fascination of slashing
shooting and even punching if they don t find anything. Thomas Sally uses logos as, We don t tell
someone struggling with lust simply not to want sex; we don t tell a glutton that his problems will be
solved if he stops being hungry. This is a clear logical

The History of Surfing
Today surfing is a multi billion dollar industry. It has been taken up on every continent on Earth. There
have been waves surfed that were created by the breaking of an arctic glacier. China has built an
indoor wave pool a thousand miles from the closest ocean that perfectly simulates a real breaking
wave. People are finding ways to surf by any means necessary. Anyone that has ever picked up a
board and paddled into a break owes that experience not only to the ancient pioneers that created the
sport but also to the pioneers that popularized it.
The origins of catching and riding a wave began in Western Polynesia over three thousand years ago.
The first ones to catch a wave were fishermen who discovered riding waves was an efficient method
of getting to shore with their bounty. Eventually, catching waves transformed into a pastime instead of
every day work. There is no exact record of when surfing took the upright sport that we know today. It
is known that, during the 15th century, the people of the Sandwich Isles were entrenched in the
pastime of he enalu or wave sliding, in old Hawaiian. Europeans first witnessed surfing in the late
1700 s when first contact was made with the Tahitians. Explorer Captain James Cook wrote in his
journal about how a Tahitian man caught waves with an outrigger canoe just for fun: On walking one
day about Matavai Point, where our tents were erected, I saw a man paddling in a small canoe so
quickly and looking about him with such

The Law And Its Effect On Family Provision
In the legal context, the ability to leave property to any person you desire upon death is called
testamentary freedom. The concept of testamentary freedom is perhaps the reason why many people
contemplate death and attempt to ensure that they meet all the formalities in executing a valid will. It
is important to note that testamentary freedom is not a notion that is absolute. Family members of the
individual who feel they have an entitlement under the will can bring a claim for contesting a will
against the estate. These family provision claims are becoming more common in our society and are
arguably undermining the testator s use of their free will. The courts have implemented the use of
mediation as a strategy to assist them in processing these applications. This effective and inexpensive
mechanism is a compulsory step in some states before approaching the courts while in other states
mediation is highly recommended but not compulsory. Through critical analysis of the law and its
effect on family provision claims, it will be depicted that testamentary freedom as a legal right is
adversely affected by compulsory mediation.
MEDIATION IN AUSTRALIA

The European Age Of Enlightenment
The European Age of Enlightenment, a period when great thinkers shared innovative thoughts on the
governance and rights of man, slavery, the ultimate expression of human oppression, was widely
practiced. The development of the Atlantic trade saw millions of Africans, enslaved by white
European societies, shipped to the Americas to live a life void of liberty and dominated by misery, an
existence starkly contrasting Enlightenment ideals. Despite the commonality of the practice, the
Enlightenment movement successfully contributed to the abolishment of slavery by developing the
public sphere, opening the door for discussion and critique of society, the advancement of education
for the majority, and oscillation in social status due to the promotion of economic liberalism. The
Enlightenment was an intellectual movement of the eighteenth century that emphasized the use of
reason and the application of progressive virtues to human society. Men promoting enlightened
principles were determined to progress past the ideals of prior generations and advance the human
condition without regard or reliance on religious systems. Key Enlightenment figures advocated the
improvement of political institutions, enhancement and expansion of education, economic
development, and open mindedness to diverse ideas and beliefs. The Enlightenment maintained that
progress was a law of nature, a stance that opposed many traditionalists and the general public of
citizens who lived a lifestyle hardly

The Importance Of Professionalism And Professional Behavior
According to me, Professionalism and professional behavior is very context specific. It requires us to
behave appropriately at all times and in all situations. Professionalism requires us to make difficult
judgments and requires us to challenge poor practices and unacceptable behaviour and attitudes. A
person should be easily approachable, polite, courteous, respectable and confident. Having dignity and
self respect is also very professional.
Shaking another professional hands firmly, maintaining a proper and distinct eye contact, shaking your
head and replying to everything another fellow says all contribute to professionalism.
We keep on telling ourselves that we need to meet more people and that our circle of influence needs
to be strengthened. We always want out skills and talents to be discovered. Our career requires us to
network. In today s competitive and dynamic world, we all have to be more professional than ever.
Networking requires a strategic approach that we can learn from while introducing ourselves to
professionals. Being strategic and viewing networking through an opportunity vision can prove to be a
powerful professional development.
As a college student, I display professionalism every moment of my day. Be it with fellow student, a
professor, a teacher s assistant or even the college employees. I always keep the door open if there
someone behind me who needs to enter the room too. I always maintain eye contact with someone
who is speaking to me. I refer

Osmosis in Potatoes
AT1 Osmosis In Potatoes
Aim: Investigate the movement of osmosis through a selectively permeable membrane, in this case
potato.
Introduction: Osmosis is the movement of water through a semi permeable membrane, separating
solutions of different concentrations. The water passes from a region of high concentration to a region
of low concentration, until the two concentrations are equal in concentrations of water.
Many cell membranes behave as semi permeable membranes, and osmosis is a vital mechanism in the
transport of fluids in living organisms, for example, in the transport of water from the soil to the roots
in plants.
If a cell is in contact with a solution of lower water concentration than its own contents, ... Show more

Method After having done our preliminary work, we knew exactly which measurements we needed to

we intended on doing repeats at the same time as the original experiments were going on.
For organisation s sake, we set up all of the test tubes at once, and labelled them individually to avoid
confusion later on. Into each test tube, we poured 15mls of Glucose solution, and added one of the
potato chips, each weighing around 1 gram, and measuring 33mm by 5mm. In order to make it as
much of a fair test as possible, we added the potato chips very quickly, to make sure one chip didn t
have a longer amount of time in the solution than another. We then left each one for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, we emptied each test tube, leaving only the potato chips inside. Before we measured
and weighed each chip, we dabbed them with paper towel. If we had of left excess water on the chips,
the weights would not be accurate. We then measured the chips in mms because they are a more

Sandberg on the Difference between Men and Women in the...
When you think of high power names in the workplace it s more often than not associated with men.
In fact, statistics show that of the top corporate jobs in America only 15% are held by women. What s
even more startling is that of all the fortune 500 CEOs only twenty one of them are women (Sandberg,
2013). These eye opening statistics show that although women have made great strides in the
workplace throughout the years one question remains; Why are there not more women in leadership
positions? Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook chief operating officer and author of Lean In: Women, Work,
and the Will to Lead examined the causes of this halt in progress and the possible solutions.
The first idea that Sandberg mentions in her book revolves around women underestimating their own
abilities. She states, If you ask men and women questions about completely objective criteria such as
GPAs or sales goals, men get it wrong slightly high; women get it wrong slightly low. More
importantly, if you ask men why they succeeded, men attribute that success to themselves; and
women, they attribute it to other factors like working harder, help from others, being lucky, etc
(Sandberg). After reading this puzzling fact, I started to wonder what factors played into these
differences in the ways of thinking between men and women.
An underlying message:
If you think about your childhood you were probably immersed with toys suiting your gender. If you
re a girl, you were probably given dolls of some

The Framework And Statutory Frameworks
The workforce has developed rapidly over the years in relation to policy and statutory frameworks,
with an emphasis upon the national curriculum in relation to literacy. The frameworks is influenced by
political aspects by theoretical and political aspects. This has been reflected within practice as policy
brings change and implications for practitioners and managers. Research has gone a long way to
implement the revised national curriculum which was due to the concerns raised due to the fact as a
country we are falling behind on the national league tables as we are in position 23 (DfEE, 2013),
which is quite disappointing as English is our first language within Britain, and we have made no
improvements within the last three years (DfEE, 2013). The Greeks did not just invent an alphabet;
they invented literacy and literature basis of modern thought (Blake, 2002. et al). Therefore, schooling
became longer because after an extended period of learning to read and write, children had become
exposed to the literary of culture. Pupils are now learning about the world through reading in
classrooms (King, 2000). Our view of literacy needs to be critically examined rather than accepted
unquestioningly. As Tobin et al, (1989) so fascinatingly demonstrates, our values affect our curriculum
and our judgements of children (Marsh et al, 2008, p.24). A need to bring an internal change is
necessary for people to live well in an environmentally responsible society which builds a

Coral Divers Resort Case Solution Essay
Problem: The issue that Coral Divers Resort (CDR) is facing is that it has been unable to distinguish

revenues and unprofitability for the past three years as a result. Other resorts that have been able to
specialize in certain segments of the diving industry have been doing well over the past years as the
industry continues to grow. CDR must look for opportunities in the diving industry to find a unique
niche and gain a competitive edge that will lead to an increase its revenues. The SWOT analysis

This alternative provides quick cost cutting to reduce CDR’s expenses, provides additional
revenue through the new adventure diving option, and is very easy to implement into its operations.
This solution manages to post a positive profit in the first year of implementation (Displayed in
Exhibit 3). However, this alternative does not provide a sustainable revenue stream into the future
because the lack of competitive advantage it builds and the intense competition of other shark diving
focused resorts in the area (See decreasing profits from years 2010 to 2011 in Exhibit 3). Comparison
of Solutions: When it comes to judging the alternatives with the most important factors of profit
maximization and competitive advantage, the recommended option to become focused on family
diving vacations is much stronger than the option to specialize in shark diving. (Displayed in detail in
Exhibit 2). Partnering with Rascals posts the highest first full year profits of $166,000 compared to the
adventure focused and cost efficiency alternative that posts a first year profit of $112,000. Further, the
partnering with Rascals has projected revenues that are sustained further out in the future because of
the competitive advantage gained when moving into the family oriented diving segment rather than
the adventure oriented segment. The difference in estimated revenue between the two in 2011 is
approximately $620,000 with the family specialization solution

Opium (Papaver somniferum)
The opium poppy has been used as a medicinal plant for centuries all over the world. The opium
poppy plant belongs to the Papaveraceae family. The scientific name of the opium poppy is Papaver
somniferum L., and it is native to Turkey. The plant has lobed leaves, milky sap and four to six petaled
flowers with several stamens surrounding the ovary. The two sepals drop off when the petals unfold.
The ovary then develops into a short, many seeded capsule that opens in dry weather. The small seeds

Papaver Somniferum has been used since Greek times to relieve suffering and euphoria. Records
indicate that the opium poppy has been used since the time of Mesopotamia (5000 to 4000 BC). The
records refer to the poppy and its use as opiates as medical tablets. Homer s writings indicate Greek
usage of the substance at least by 90OBC: Hippocrates made extensive use of medicinal herbs
including opium (see Britannica Online).
It is believed that the Romans probably learned of opium in the Mediterranean. Opium spread to
places all over the world. In China opium was reported as a problem during the seventeenth century.
Between World War I and H the cultivation of opium grew in Central America in the mountains. Now
the major producers and exporters of opium are Turkey and India (Britannica Online).
Opium was definitely used in more recent times as well. Before the nineteenth century there were few
painkillers available. There were few alternatives to using opiates to end suffering for dying people.
Long ago opium was not considered harmful and was available to everyone. Doctors advised taking

Factors That Affect The Value Of An Economy
There are numerous variables or characteristics employed to estimate the health or strength of an
economy, known as macroeconomic variables. This can include the following:
The Inflation Rate
It is referred to as the constant rate of change in the price level in the economy. Many economies
encounter positive rates of inflation yearly (Sommers, 2005). Mostly, the price level is usually
measured by a price index, which evaluates the price level of goods and services at a particular point
in time. Again, the number of items contained within in a price index differs depending on the main
objective of the index. Mostly, government agencies occasionally present three types of price indexes;
each index has a definite uses and benefits. They include the consumer price index, producer price
index and implicit GDP price deflector (Ball, 2012).
Zero percent inflation may happen to be ideal, but it is neither realistic nor desirable. A fair rate of
inflation of between 1 2 percent is thought to be desirable by immense number of economists. The
inflation rate of up to 5 percent is acceptable (Sommers, 2005). However, double digit inflation rates
are absolutely considered detrimental by most economists.
Unemployment Rate
The employment level is regularly quoted in relations to the unemployment rate; usually it is defined
as the fraction of labor force presently not working (but aggressively seeking employment). Whether
or not an economy is performing well in relation to the unemployment

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Social Psychology
Social Psychology Assignment 1 There are 3 basic research methods that social psychologists use to
describe behaviors. Each of these have both strengths and weaknesses. The observational method is
done by observing and collecting data which is then used to describe the behavior. The researcher
observes the events in a natural setting so none of the variables are manipulated. There must be
interjudge reliability, meaning that when different researchers administer the same test to the same
subject they each must obtain the same measurement. The advantages in this method is that it is the
simplest method, it has greater accuracy, and it is useful for setting up hypothesis. The weaknesses are
that this method is hard to observe because of privacy and secrecy. It is great for explanation but not
as good for prediction and description. The observer might also be biased being that he has his own
opinion on what is right and wrong. The correlation method focuses on prediction. It is a statistical
measure of two or more variables and the relation between them are assessed. The Correlation
coefficient assesses how well you can predict one variable from another. A positive correlation is when
the value of one variable increases it is associated with the increase of the other variable. For example
height and weight, the more one grows the more he will weigh. A negative correlation is when the
value of one variable increases it is associated with the decrease of the other

This demonstrates and embodies how Phil Spector, the producer and creator of the Wall of Sound,
held power over the Crystals. It is said that in producing the song, Spector chose specific instruments
so that he could layer them in a way that would overshadow the voices...that just stopped short of
being busy. When listening to the track, Uptown, one is able to notice that the Crystals seem to be
trying to sing over the musical instrumentations. After the production of Uptown, a former Crystal
member mentioned that Spector would barely let them take part in the production process. Dee Dee

the material was not the greatest, the sound would carry the record (Wikipedia). His goal was to make

the capitals give them petals, but it is debated on the accuracy of this

Have you turned on ? Are You Experienced? Have you passed the Acid Test? (Stephenson 41). All
three of these questions ultimately asking the same question during the American counterculture
movement: Have you dropped acid? The counterculture movement was a time of new ideas, self
expression, and change. Traditional values of America were questioned and the norm was not the
norm anymore. Women began to challenge the role of traditional housewife with some women and
men dropping out of society all together. Groups of hippies started to form that embraced a completely
new lifestyle including growing long hair, wearing tie dye shirts, and consuming LSD. Starting at the
center of the counterculture movement, Haight Ashbury in San Francisco, the ... Show more content

And some people have very transcendental experiences where trippers get the feeling as if their
psyches were opened up by a bolt from above or within, as a roiling wave of stimuli floods their
sensorium to the point of overflow (Hayes 82). Each individual has a unique experience that is unlike
any of the others. As acid became more and more prevalent, communities with new ideas formed and
began to evolve the ideas of the 1960s.
One of the leaders of the pro LSD movement, Timothy Leary, knew that the drug could change
society. The strong inquisition that arises while tripping led to a shift in thinking about the culture the
people resided in. They started drifting away from the uniformity of the 50s and found themselves
expressing what they truly wanted. Leary agrees with this idea:
The fact is that, in terms of human evolution, people not on psychedelics are not fully human. They ve
fallen to a lower state, where they re easily programmed, boundary defined, obsessed by sexual
possessiveness which is transferred into fetishism and object obsession. We don t want too many
citizens asking where the power and the money really goes. Informed by psychedelics, people might
stop saluting. Take your political party, your job, whatever, and shove

The Modern Period
The Modern Period took place during the 20th century, from the death of Queen Victoria in 1901, to
the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. It is one of the most important time periods in human history, and
for many reasons. With the beginning of a new era, there was change, with new technology advances
like cars, telephones, and electricity, the Modern Period was a huge leap for mankind, it changed the
way of life that people were used to at the time. But the reason why the Modern Period is remembered
and an important time period from human history, is because of the three major wars that took place,
that not only impacted Great Britain, but the entire world, World War I, World War II, and the Cold
War. These three wars helped changed the way on how humans saw, and interacted with the world,
many started to wonder about the meaning of life, and what is life, what is death, it was much
different route than the Victorian Age. This change of perspective is most noticeable in literature and
art from that time period, and it shows not only how times were back then a century ago, but also how
it felt to live those moments, how it felt to experience war, and how it felt to wonder about your
existence, and your life.
One important year in the Modern Age is 1914, when the Great War broke out, later called World War
I. This is an important time during the Modern Age, because it started to change the perspective of the
world in people s eyes, and people started to look within

Bonobo Intelligence Animal Essay
Why do we say that Bonobo has intelligence? Similar to humans might be a partial reason why
Bonobo is classified as intelligence animal. Many evidences show that Bonobo expresses its
intelligence in the natural world. Bonobo is highly intelligence and physically similar to human
ancestor. Bonobos were discovered in the forest along the Congo River in the Democratic Republic of
Congo in 1927. They are named as the pygmy chimpanzees because of the similarities in their
physical traits with chimpanzees. A lot of people make the same mistake in recognizing Bonobo and
Chimpanzee though they have the same height. However, Bonobo come with leaner body, smaller
head and longer leg than Chimpanzee. Moreover, they physically feature as the closest primates to
human who hold almost 98.6 percent of their DNA comparing with human.(
http://www.nydailynews.com)
Specifically, learning language indicates the most stunning ability about Bonobos intelligence. Human
is regarded as the intelligence animal because we can use language which distinguishes us with others.
Language covers many combinations of words such as grammars, sentences, phrases that only human
can understand. Since I was a child, I usually thought that the world of animal had its own language
that we did not know about it. Although many species can understand what their species want to
transfer in the world of nature by using methods such as waves or signal, but none of them can deliver
it into language. But we know this:

Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Research Paper
I choose to research Generalized Anxiety Disorder for my research topic.
This disorder is one of the most arguably common faced encounters clinicians deal with today.
Because of this I choose to focus much of my emphasis on the difficulties one face, that s diagnosed
with GAD and the hard ship of building and maintain a good client relationship. Generalized anxiety
disorder begins at the onset of a worry and or tension that carries on into more severe and debilitating
symptom (American Psychological Association, 1997). These symptoms are triggered by a multitude
of reactions or situation that leads the individual to face uncontrollable panic like attacks. Even when a
person feels the onset of an Anxiety attack it is difficult for them to control it because of the inability
and impairment state it leaves them in.
Some common symptoms of GAD are difficulty concentrating; which leaves the individual incapable
of focusing on things that may seen to be normal to others. Fatigue a feeling of being tired or with out
energy to do daily things, Irritability; which can cause grouchiness and crankiness also the feeling of
wanting to be left alone, GAD also can lead to long periods of restlessness, and at times sleeplessness
(American Psychological Association, 1997)
Many times the source that contributes to the symptoms, that triggers the onset of the anxiety attack
can be hard to identify. Some causing factors can be excessive

Essay about A Child Called It, The Lost Boy and A Man...
For this report, I have read all three of Dave Pelzer s books about his life: A Child Called It , The Lost
Boy and A Man Named Dave. A Child Called It chronicles Dave s life as a child, and is told from that
viewpoint. From his earliest recollections of a relatively happy life with the Mommy to his life and
death struggle with The Mother , this book details the horror of Dave s dehumanizing existence.
Going far beyond typical physical, emotional and psychological abuses, Dave s story tells of
intentional starvation, forced coprophagia, poisoning and much more. This volume covers his life
from his earliest memories at age 4 until his rescue at age 12. The Lost Boy picks up the story where
the first book leaves off, following ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dave took food from other children s lunches at school in order to survive. His schoolmates were
aware of this, and it served to set him further apart from them. The children called him names and he
had no friends. Two of the disabilities that were apparent to me while reading these books were the
alcoholism of Dave s parents and Dave s developmental issues. Application of Developmental
Theories Families are systems in which each individual has a unique relationship with the other
individuals in the family. Dave s place in his family was, indeed, unique. The subsystem consisting of
Dave and his mother had a foundation in the boundaries set by the mother. Dave s role in the family
was, essentially, that he was not a part of the family. Not only that, Dave s identity was stripped away
by his mother. At the onset of the abuse, she began referring to him as the boy. As the situation
worsened, she referred to him as It , hence the title of the first book in this series. At the time of Dave
s rescue, he exhibited two of the four behavioral indicators of abuse that were established in 1979 by
the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare. He exhibited overly compliant, passive and
undemanding behaviors aimed at maintaining a low profile, avoiding any possible confrontation with
a parent which could

Gottfried Leibniz Is A Strong Proponent Of The Idea That
Gottfried Leibniz is a strong proponent of the idea that everything exists for a reason and that God is
the ultimate reason that leads to the creation of our world, the best of all possible worlds. Using the
principle of sufficient reason, Leibniz helps us understand the existence of substance and how each
substance is synthesized for some particular purpose. He then claims that inevitably the PSR can be
indefinitely applied, and eventually leads us back to the existence of God as the main source. Leibniz
asserts that under the circumstances provided by the nature of God, the world that is created is the best
possible world, as anything else would violate the implications of the PSR. Although Leibniz s
proposal of the PSR and his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately, Leibniz argues, if we work back far enough along the chain, we reach a point where we
can no longer comprehend a reason for something to happen. This is solved by introducing God as the
ultimate reason behind anything. Leibniz does not necessarily argue that God is an omnipotent or
omnipresent being, but more so uses the concept of God to encompass the motivation for all that is
unexplainable. He suggests that whatever reasons we cannot comprehend must be reasons beyond our
capability to understand and only fall to God as their creator. God becomes the rational explanation
that is necessary to end the chain of inquiry created by the PSR. There is more to God than just being
the ultimate reason for things. Leibniz argues that God is motivated to pick the most rational and
perfect world there is. An irrational world would not exist, according to the PSR, as it would not serve
its purpose as holistically as a rational world could. Unlike Descartes, who was a proponent of the idea
that whatever God does is good, Leibniz thinks that rationality precedes God and that God s reason for
a particular action is that it objectively is the most rational. Thus God s actions are good in the sense
that they are the most ideal. God s rationality allows for a universe with minimal laws but the largest
amount of phenomena. God does whatever is most rational and creates substances that will serve their
purpose the

Geographic Disparity In Medical Care
Humans are one of the most vulnerable species that walk the earth. Their simple bodies are susceptible
to almost every type of bacterial or viral disease which could cause death in a matter of hours. From
the earliest nomadic tribes of humans, there has been a need for medical care. Whether the need for
healing comes from man s simple mistakes or from man s rivalry with nature, medicine and simple
bandages are some parts of the necessity to heal. The one advantage that humans have over all other
animal apexes in the world is man s ability to create. This ability gave humans modern technology and
medical care that is capable of curing almost every disease or disability known. Although this
technology is known, it is not always accessible to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the only two reasons that a person cannot receive said treatment is because there is no trained
professional that is capable of giving the treatment. The geographic disparity exists most The figures
are stark: the average density of dentists to head of population in Africa is 1 to 150,000; in
industrialized countries, the average is 1 to 5,000 ( High Risk 1). There is no shortage of capable
dentists in the world; there is only a shortage of capable dentists in the places that need them most.
The problem continues to escalate as fewer dentists want to open general practices in the most
desolate places in Africa. The problem escalates as the ...duties which traditionally have been
performed by assisting personnel are now being carried out by the dentists themselves ( WHO 2). This
fact only makes the problem of the lack of dentists worse. The few dentists there are in an area, some
of them have to help the others because there are not any capable people of helping the dentists, thus
slowing the process even further. The problems continue to snowball as Health care in rural areas can
suffer due to lack of expertise and trained professionals. Moreover, excessive workloads and long
working hours for the remaining staff can lead to demoralization, burnout, and decline in the quality of
care (Parkash 3). Due to the shortage of capable dentists in rural areas and the massive

The Is An Acronym Recreational Equipment Inc.
REI is an acronym Recreational Equipment Inc. This is an American retail and free services
corporation that aims at providing fun to the citizens of America at large. It is one of the best service
providers when it comes to hiking, camping, sporting and other traveling equipment.
The U.S economy is growing rapidly and therefore it has affect any business organization of a firm.
The current economic state affects the retail services of REI in the following ways. The U.S. Economy
has truly possessed the capacity to mitigate the effect of downturns in local retail buyer spending. This
is because of substantial exchange with outside countries. The consequence of this is retailers are
encountering noteworthy decreases in deals because of individuals taking care of on their outgoings
and furrowing into their properties or somewhere else, consequently the economy withstands a lot of
challenges while trying to maintain its position (Mook, Quarter, Armstrong, Whitman, 2015).
Therefore, customers in the US have reduced the rate at which they purchase or search for REI
services since they are a bit expensive. It is obvious that the company will have to cope with some
changes. (Reis et al, 2016)
The global typically has some effects on the whole marketing and retailing strategy of REI, in the

The Five Disciplines and Organizational Improvement
Throughout our final semester of study at Maryville, our cohort has studied Peter Senge s, The Fifth
Discipline: The Art and Practice of the Learning Organization. Rather than set of management
practices, the book describes how organizations, especially those that are sustainably competitive,
know how to learn. These learning organizations are continuously learning how to work together,
where the norm is producing their best. In the book, Senge identifies five essential elements, that when
practiced together, create perfect conditions for an effective learning organization. These five practices
are Personal Mastery, Mental Models, Shared Vision, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A system is a collection of elements that interact with each other over time to function as a whole.
Systems thinking is a combination of the previous four practices: personal mastery, mental models,
shared vision and team learning to dissect and examine the practices of the organization. I first heard
learned about systems thinking five years ago when I started in the Hazelwood School District. Our
district had just began our district wide professional development on systems thinking, but then we
had a change in our superintendent in late August, just a few weeks after the start of school. With the
change in district leadership, came a change in our district focus, and systems thinking was almost
immediately abandoned. However, since revisiting it this semester, I can t help but incorporate it into
many of my daily

  • 2. Pediatric National Health Service ( Nhs ) Introduction In 2013, surgeon specific outcome data were made publicly available across a range of surgical specialties by the English National Health Service (NHS). This initial stimulus was the Kennedy Inquiry in 2001, whereby two surgeons were disciplined for having mortality rates that exceeded the norm, and led to the reporting of surgeon specific mortality data for all cardiothoracic surgery units in the UK (1). Following this, mounting pressures for increased transparency and disclosure within healthcare arose, stemming from instances such as the 2005 Freedom of Information Act request filed by the Guardian newspaper and the Francis report (2). These led to the eventual publication of Surgeon specific mortality data (SSMD), presenting the crude risk adjusted mortality rates for individual surgeons over a number of surgical procedures. Besides the stated aim of increasing transparency, further drivers of SSMD publication were to enhance patient safety by enabling the detection of underperforming surgeons regarded as outliers , deliver improved data for healthcare commissioners, and to aid the public in making informed decisions about their care (3). However, since its release there has been much controversy surrounding the meaningfulness of SSMD due to its potential negative impact (4). Concerns over the quality of the data have been raised as the initial SSMD was derived from existing national surgical audit databases. However, the designs of these audits were not ... • 4. Symptoms And Symptoms Of Hallucinations Essay INTRODUCTION Hallucinations are one of the most intriguing secrets of the mind, which are characterized by false visions, sounds, taste, smell, and touch that can occur when one is awake; it has a sufficient sense of reality, but one has no control over it. Hallucinations are the form of perception. There is no particular part of the brain that is involved in hallucinating. For example, people seeing faces could have a hyperactivity in fusiform face area involved in facial recognition. People with hyperactivity in the auditory cortex might experience auditory hallucinations: hearing music, or voices, that are not there. Hallucinations can be frightening, strange, or even amusing and divine. There are numerous causes of hallucinations: they are usually experienced by people with schizophrenia, Charles Bonnet syndrome, Parkinson s disease, or other psychological and mental disorders. However, hallucinations can also be experienced by healthy individuals, who are the subjects for studying the nature and causes of hallucinations, as they do not interact with other symptoms like in patients with schizophrenia. Researchers use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans to track the brain activities during hallucinations. The aim of this research paper is to describe several types of hallucinations, ways of studying hallucinations, and possible treatments. DISCUSSION 1. Emotional hallucinations Hallucinations do not have to be vivid; one of the most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Alexander Hamilton was one of the key, founding figures of the Federalist, a political party who believed in a strong, national government. However, Aaron Burr considered himself a Democratic Republican, a political party who favored for the states to have more power than the national government; in other words, both men believed in the exact opposite for the government of the United States. As a result, Hamilton and Burr disagreed on many things, resulting in a great amount of animosity towards each other. The duel was held on Wednesday, July 11, 1804 in Weehawken, New Jersey. The choice of weapon for the duel was a pistol chosen by Hamilton since he was the one challenged. Again since he was the challenged, Hamilton had the choice of position, so he chose a place located upstream. However, that would include one of many mistakes that would cost him his life. As both men shot at each other, only one was hit. Shot in a fatal location, Hamilton was hit on his right side, right above his hip. Ellis states, Hamilton himself recognized his own condition almost immediately...Meanwhile, Burr seemed surprised and regretful at the outcome of his shot (25). • 6. To Kill A Mockingbird And A Separate Peace By John Knowles The informed, written analysis and evaluation of a work of literature is known as literary criticism, which is based on a literary theory. An examples of such a literary theory is intertextual criticism, involving the comparison of two separate novels. Written by Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird is comparable to A Separate Peace by John Knowles. Both novels are fictitious and showcase universal symbols, themes, characters, and numerous other literary devices utilized by authors. Similarities between these two novels are exhibited by the author s use of a tree as a symbol for life and death, the victim, archetype, and weather as a symbol for change. One reoccurring symbol is the representation of a tree as a symbol for life and death. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In A Separate Peace, the Super Suicide Society, in which the boys at Devon jumped off the tree into the creek, serving as a cementation of Gene and Finny s friendship. The activities on the tree provided an outlet of fun during the boys lives at school and during the war. But, the very same tree led to Finny s death, and Gene s figurative death, making it a symbol of the contrast between life and death. The victim archetype is displayed in the characters of both novels. During the trial, Tom says to Mr. Gilmer, no suh, scared I d hafta face up to what I didn t do (Lee 225). Upon being asked why Tom ran away if he was innocent, he replies that he didn t want to be wrongfully convicted, which is exactly what unfolds. Despite his credible testimony and the clear evidence of Bob and Mayella s lies, Tom must suffer for the wrongdoings of the Ewells, with virtually no escape from his fate. Because of the instilled prejudice into society, Tom is ostracized by the townspeople. Similarly, Phineas suffers physically when Gene states that my knees bent and I jounced the limb. Finny...broke through the little branches below and hit the bank with a sickening, unnatural thud...one of his legs had been shattered (Knowles 60 61). One of the most common techniques that is seen in today s society is the stereotypical portrayal of women, who tend to pose rather promiscuously as seen in Figure One. These types of images portray women as sex objects or as submissive housewives to their husbands. This comes into context with the advertising in which American Apparel portrays. • 8. `` Much Madness Is The Divinest Sense `` By Emily Dickinson Poet of Paradox The Belle of Amherst, The Woman in White, or The Most Paradoxical of Poets...who can say which pseudonym is most becoming of the late great Emily Dickinson. By virtue of the multitudinous biographical literary works, moreover the wondrous intimacy of Dickinson s poetry, one could surmise that as readers we comprehend her entirely: yet the most prevalent experience borne from reading Emily s work, especially if her poems are read successively, is that we come away feeling as though we know nothing at all. Like no author before her and very few after her, Emily Dickinson divulges her hearts hidden secrets while recording what is inexorably one of the most conscientious explorations of the human consciousness ever attempted. Dickinson is known posthumously for her unusual use of form and syntax, but it was her pervasive themes of immortality, death, and madness in her poems that would canonize her as an indelible American character. In Much Madness is the divinest Sense, Dickinson emphatically establishes a theme of madness within the context of the poem. This poem is rather difficult to read and not feel that it is inspirited by Dickinson s own life of reclusion, which many have presented as a symptom of her insanity. Much Madness is the divinest Sense discombobulates the notion of what s crazy and what s not, it s a piece for every person who has ever pondered Am I insane...or is the world completely mad? Dickinson poignantly reveals how what is accepted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the wake of the French revolution and King Louis XVI of France s execution in 1773, 19th century France was a time of immense political, economic and social uncertainty as new political parties competed for power and attempted to reform Frances governing systems. Due to the instabilities caused by the Napoleonic Wars a new style of architecture did not develop during Napoleons rule, resulting in the continuation of pre French Revolution classicism. With the intention of articulating imperialistic grandeur and referencing France as the new Roman Empire , an emphasis was placed on neoclassical elements and the use of columns and arches becoming more liberal. Jean Chalgrin s Arch de Triomphe provides an example of politically motivated neoclassical architecture. The triumphant arch was commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 to serve as an honorary monument and rallying point for the French military . Inspired in part by the Arch of Titus in the Roman Forum, decorative high relief sculptures celebrating military victories from the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars adorn the structure . It is evident that Napoleon believed that as an empire that had annexed and made most of Europe into its satellites, the First French Empire deserved to have its grandeur reflected by a monument that referenced one of the world s largest and most successful ancient Empires. This book links both soccer and science together. Throughout this story the simple idea of soccer will turn into a more complex version of science. Wesson teaches the readers about how something so simple, like a ball bouncing, can relate to the more in depth laws of physics. While reading this book one can learn what soccer really is, how science is described, and how science and soccer are related. A common question in many young minds is, What is soccer? . In the words of Wesson, Soccer s superiority derives from two sources, variety and continuity. At each point in the game the players are faced with a wide range of options take the ball past the opponent on this side or that, to pass short or long, low or high, to shoot or to lay the ball off and to whom (Wesson 85). Soccer is a physical and mental sport. It is played with your feet, however, it is the mind that does most of the hard work. It is also a team sport. It consists of dribbling, passing, kicking, and much more. Sometimes there will be a bounce that must be trapped, and others there will be moves needed to blow by a defender. The game varies. For instance, the book also reads, The ball is kicked in a variety of ways according to the circumstances. For a slow accurate pass the ball is pushed with the flat inside face of the foot. Donatello s Accomplishments Born Donato di Niccoló di Betto Bardi in 1386, Donatello was one of the most influential sculptors of fifteenth century Italy, his work was a stepping stone for the rebirth of art. Although his work is almost 600 years old, it is still held in very high esteem today (Funk and Wagnalls). Some of his defining pieces include The Feast of Herod, his bronze statue of David, and Gattamelata; these pieces made such a big impact on the Renaissance that we can still feel tremors today, making Donatello one of the best artists of all time. In 1427, Donatello crafted The Feast of Herod; it was a relief for the baptismal font in the Siena Cathedral in Italy, where it is still housed today. The Feast of Herod is a bronze relief that depicts a slave of Herod s presenting the severed head of John the Baptist to Salome (World Biography). There have been waves surfed that were created by the breaking of an arctic glacier. China has built an indoor wave pool a thousand miles from the closest ocean that perfectly simulates a real breaking wave. People are finding ways to surf by any means necessary. Anyone that has ever picked up a board and paddled into a break owes that experience not only to the ancient pioneers that created the sport but also to the pioneers that popularized it. The origins of catching and riding a wave began in Western Polynesia over three thousand years ago. The first ones to catch a wave were fishermen who discovered riding waves was an efficient method of getting to shore with their bounty. Eventually, catching waves transformed into a pastime instead of every day work. There is no exact record of when surfing took the upright sport that we know today. It is known that, during the 15th century, the people of the Sandwich Isles were entrenched in the pastime of he enalu or wave sliding, in old Hawaiian. Europeans first witnessed surfing in the late 1700 s when first contact was made with the Tahitians. Explorer Captain James Cook wrote in his journal about how a Tahitian man caught waves with an outrigger canoe just for fun: On walking one day about Matavai Point, where our tents were erected, I saw a man paddling in a small canoe so quickly and looking about him with such ... • 25. The Law And Its Effect On Family Provision In the legal context, the ability to leave property to any person you desire upon death is called testamentary freedom. The concept of testamentary freedom is perhaps the reason why many people contemplate death and attempt to ensure that they meet all the formalities in executing a valid will. It is important to note that testamentary freedom is not a notion that is absolute. Family members of the individual who feel they have an entitlement under the will can bring a claim for contesting a will against the estate. These family provision claims are becoming more common in our society and are arguably undermining the testator s use of their free will. The courts have implemented the use of mediation as a strategy to assist them in processing these applications. This effective and inexpensive mechanism is a compulsory step in some states before approaching the courts while in other states mediation is highly recommended but not compulsory. Through critical analysis of the law and its effect on family provision claims, it will be depicted that testamentary freedom as a legal right is adversely affected by compulsory mediation. MEDIATION IN AUSTRALIA Queensland In Queensland, the legislation does not stipulate that mediation is compulsory in family provision claims but it is imposed by virtue of the District Court s practice notes. It requires us to behave appropriately at all times and in all situations. Professionalism requires us to make difficult judgments and requires us to challenge poor practices and unacceptable behaviour and attitudes. A person should be easily approachable, polite, courteous, respectable and confident. Having dignity and self respect is also very professional. Shaking another professional hands firmly, maintaining a proper and distinct eye contact, shaking your head and replying to everything another fellow says all contribute to professionalism. We keep on telling ourselves that we need to meet more people and that our circle of influence needs to be strengthened. We always want out skills and talents to be discovered. Our career requires us to network. In today s competitive and dynamic world, we all have to be more professional than ever. Networking requires a strategic approach that we can learn from while introducing ourselves to professionals. Being strategic and viewing networking through an opportunity vision can prove to be a powerful professional development. As a college student, I display professionalism every moment of my day. Many cell membranes behave as semi permeable membranes, and osmosis is a vital mechanism in the transport of fluids in living organisms, for example, in the transport of water from the soil to the roots in plants. We then left each one for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, we emptied each test tube, leaving only the potato chips inside. Before we measured and weighed each chip, we dabbed them with paper towel. • 30. Sandberg on the Difference between Men and Women in the... When you think of high power names in the workplace it s more often than not associated with men. In fact, statistics show that of the top corporate jobs in America only 15% are held by women. What s even more startling is that of all the fortune 500 CEOs only twenty one of them are women (Sandberg, 2013). These eye opening statistics show that although women have made great strides in the workplace throughout the years one question remains; Why are there not more women in leadership positions? Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook chief operating officer and author of Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead examined the causes of this halt in progress and the possible solutions. The first idea that Sandberg mentions in her book revolves around women underestimating their own abilities. She states, If you ask men and women questions about completely objective criteria such as GPAs or sales goals, men get it wrong slightly high; women get it wrong slightly low. More importantly, if you ask men why they succeeded, men attribute that success to themselves; and women, they attribute it to other factors like working harder, help from others, being lucky, etc (Sandberg). After reading this puzzling fact, I started to wonder what factors played into these differences in the ways of thinking between men and women. Research has gone a long way to implement the revised national curriculum which was due to the concerns raised due to the fact as a country we are falling behind on the national league tables as we are in position 23 (DfEE, 2013), which is quite disappointing as English is our first language within Britain, and we have made no improvements within the last three years (DfEE, 2013). The Greeks did not just invent an alphabet; they invented literacy and literature basis of modern thought (Blake, 2002. et al). Therefore, schooling became longer because after an extended period of learning to read and write, children had become exposed to the literary of culture. Pupils are now learning about the world through reading in classrooms (King, 2000). Our view of literacy needs to be critically examined rather than accepted unquestioningly. As Tobin et al, (1989) so fascinatingly demonstrates, our values affect our curriculum and our judgements of children (Marsh et al, 2008, p.24). This can include the following: The Inflation Rate It is referred to as the constant rate of change in the price level in the economy. Many economies encounter positive rates of inflation yearly (Sommers, 2005). Mostly, the price level is usually measured by a price index, which evaluates the price level of goods and services at a particular point in time. Again, the number of items contained within in a price index differs depending on the main objective of the index. Mostly, government agencies occasionally present three types of price indexes; each index has a definite uses and benefits. They include the consumer price index, producer price index and implicit GDP price deflector (Ball, 2012). Zero percent inflation may happen to be ideal, but it is neither realistic nor desirable. A fair rate of inflation of between 1 2 percent is thought to be desirable by immense number of economists. The inflation rate of up to 5 percent is acceptable (Sommers, 2005). The researcher observes the events in a natural setting so none of the variables are manipulated. There must be interjudge reliability, meaning that when different researchers administer the same test to the same subject they each must obtain the same measurement. The advantages in this method is that it is the simplest method, it has greater accuracy, and it is useful for setting up hypothesis. The weaknesses are that this method is hard to observe because of privacy and secrecy. It is great for explanation but not as good for prediction and description. The observer might also be biased being that he has his own opinion on what is right and wrong. The correlation method focuses on prediction. It is a statistical measure of two or more variables and the relation between them are assessed. The Correlation coefficient assesses how well you can predict one variable from another. A positive correlation is when the value of one variable increases it is associated with the increase of the other variable. For example height and weight, the more one grows the more he will weigh. A negative correlation is when the value of one variable increases it is associated with the decrease of the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This relates and can be interpreted from the lyrics in Uptown, And he takes all they got to give. LaLa Brooks, one of the former group members of the Crystals quintet, expresses her frustration and experience in working with Phil Spector. LaLa Brooks emotionally speaks in responding to the Agony and Ecstasy of Phil Spector, movie published in the time of Spector s arrest, I held back tears the first time. This demonstrates and embodies how Phil Spector, the producer and creator of the Wall of Sound, held power over the Crystals. It is said that in producing the song, Spector chose specific instruments so that he could layer them in a way that would overshadow the voices...that just stopped short of being busy. When listening to the track, Uptown, one is able to notice that the Crystals seem to be trying to sing over the musical instrumentations. After the production of Uptown, a former Crystal member mentioned that Spector would barely let them take part in the production process. Dee Dee Kennibrew states, From Uptown on he would bring in tracks, not finished, but enough for you to put your own part down, so he would do everything in segments, so I could not tell you how or what he kept of ours (History of Rock). Their success was dimmed by Phil Spector. He expressed that in producing music, he was focusing on the sound, I was looking for a sound, a sound so strong that if the material was not the greatest, the sound would carry the record (Wikipedia). His goal was to make little symphonies for the kids , rather than genuinely caring for the success of his artists. The Temple Of Artemis At Ephesus The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus: World Wonder The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, also known as the Artemision, was once a remarkable sight that was considered to be one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The temple itself was a rather mysterious as not much is known about the rituals that may have taken place there. It is known that the Ephesian held Artemis is the highest honor. It was believed by some that Artemis herself was born at the location of the temple (Iosa, pg. 3). The temple had many motifs dedicated to this believe, it can be considered the Nativity Temple of Artemis ( The Earlier Temple of Artemis at Ephesus , pg. 16). Wood applied for a grant from the British Museum to excavate the site after discovering it while helping to build a railroad between Izmir and Denilzi (Jenkins, pg. 51). While excavating the great theatre in May of 1966, Wood found an inscription describing silver figures that were dedicated to the goddess Artemis. The inscription also mentioned a procession that would carry these objects to the temple on the goddess s birthday. Using this Wood realized that if he found the gates, the Magnesian Gate and the Coressian Gate, described in the passage he could find the location of the Temple of Artemis. He found the Magnesian Gate by the end of 1967 followed later by the Coressian (Jenkins, pg. 52). The temple itself was finally found by the end of 1869. Wood later published an account of the excavation, including what he thought what the temple may have looked like. In 1904, the site was revisited D. G. Hogarth and A. E. Henderson. They researched the temple s earlier history and determined that the site had three incarnations (Jenkins, pg. 53). The Artemision was built in the early Ionic style of Greek architecture, as can be seen from the columns. The columns were unusual as they had capitals that had large rosettes on them instead of the normal volutes. The modern restorations of the capitals give them petals, but it is debated on the accuracy of this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is one of the most important time periods in human history, and for many reasons. With the beginning of a new era, there was change, with new technology advances like cars, telephones, and electricity, the Modern Period was a huge leap for mankind, it changed the way of life that people were used to at the time. But the reason why the Modern Period is remembered and an important time period from human history, is because of the three major wars that took place, that not only impacted Great Britain, but the entire world, World War I, World War II, and the Cold War. These three wars helped changed the way on how humans saw, and interacted with the world, many started to wonder about the meaning of life, and what is life, what is death, it was much different route than the Victorian Age. This change of perspective is most noticeable in literature and art from that time period, and it shows not only how times were back then a century ago, but also how it felt to live those moments, how it felt to experience war, and how it felt to wonder about your existence, and your life. One important year in the Modern Age is 1914, when the Great War broke out, later called World War I. Many evidences show that Bonobo expresses its intelligence in the natural world. Bonobo is highly intelligence and physically similar to human ancestor. Bonobos were discovered in the forest along the Congo River in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1927. They are named as the pygmy chimpanzees because of the similarities in their physical traits with chimpanzees. A lot of people make the same mistake in recognizing Bonobo and Chimpanzee though they have the same height. However, Bonobo come with leaner body, smaller head and longer leg than Chimpanzee. Moreover, they physically feature as the closest primates to human who hold almost 98.6 percent of their DNA comparing with human.( http://www.nydailynews.com) Specifically, learning language indicates the most stunning ability about Bonobos intelligence. Human is regarded as the intelligence animal because we can use language which distinguishes us with others. Generalized anxiety disorder begins at the onset of a worry and or tension that carries on into more severe and debilitating symptom (American Psychological Association, 1997). These symptoms are triggered by a multitude of reactions or situation that leads the individual to face uncontrollable panic like attacks. Even when a person feels the onset of an Anxiety attack it is difficult for them to control it because of the inability and impairment state it leaves them in. Some common symptoms of GAD are difficulty concentrating; which leaves the individual incapable of focusing on things that may seen to be normal to others. A Child Called It chronicles Dave s life as a child, and is told from that viewpoint. From his earliest recollections of a relatively happy life with the Mommy to his life and death struggle with The Mother , this book details the horror of Dave s dehumanizing existence. Going far beyond typical physical, emotional and psychological abuses, Dave s story tells of intentional starvation, forced coprophagia, poisoning and much more. Application of Developmental Theories Families are systems in which each individual has a unique relationship with the other individuals in the family. Dave s place in his family was, indeed, unique. The subsystem consisting of Dave and his mother had a foundation in the boundaries set by the mother. Dave s role in the family was, essentially, that he was not a part of the family. Not only that, Dave s identity was stripped away by his mother. At the onset of the abuse, she began referring to him as the boy. As the situation worsened, she referred to him as It , hence the title of the first book in this series. At the time of Dave s rescue, he exhibited two of the four behavioral indicators of abuse that were established in 1979 by the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare. Gottfried Leibniz Is A Strong Proponent Of The Idea That Gottfried Leibniz is a strong proponent of the idea that everything exists for a reason and that God is the ultimate reason that leads to the creation of our world, the best of all possible worlds. Using the principle of sufficient reason, Leibniz helps us understand the existence of substance and how each substance is synthesized for some particular purpose. He then claims that inevitably the PSR can be indefinitely applied, and eventually leads us back to the existence of God as the main source. Leibniz asserts that under the circumstances provided by the nature of God, the world that is created is the best possible world, as anything else would violate the implications of the PSR. Although Leibniz s proposal of the PSR and his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ultimately, Leibniz argues, if we work back far enough along the chain, we reach a point where we can no longer comprehend a reason for something to happen. This is solved by introducing God as the ultimate reason behind anything. Leibniz does not necessarily argue that God is an omnipotent or omnipresent being, but more so uses the concept of God to encompass the motivation for all that is unexplainable. He suggests that whatever reasons we cannot comprehend must be reasons beyond our capability to understand and only fall to God as their creator. God becomes the rational explanation that is necessary to end the chain of inquiry created by the PSR. There is more to God than just being the ultimate reason for things. Leibniz argues that God is motivated to pick the most rational and perfect world there is. An irrational world would not exist, according to the PSR, as it would not serve its purpose as holistically as a rational world could. Unlike Descartes, who was a proponent of the idea that whatever God does is good, Leibniz thinks that rationality precedes God and that God s reason for a particular action is that it objectively is the most rational. Thus God s actions are good in the sense that they are the most ideal. God s rationality allows for a universe with minimal laws but the largest amount of phenomena. God does whatever is most rational and creates substances that will serve their purpose the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
