Portrayal Of A Woman Associated By Thomas Hardy
Novelist Thomas Hardy voiced many strong opinions through his writing about the crushing power of
Victorian society and the rules and regulations concerning marriage. Contradicting the expectations of
society was something Hardy delighted in, but Hardy s reader response began to suffer. As his career
progressed, his novels became increasingly more pessimistic and his readers heavily criticized his last
two novels. After writing Jude the Obscure, he resolved to not write any more novels because of the
negative feedback he kept receiving for this and his previous novel. However, Hardy was able to
expertly incorporate his beliefs into his narratives and reflect his views upon his characters. This
results in the rebellious characters described in Jude the Obscure, particularly the character Sue
Bridehead. This character has been described as the first fiction portrayal of a woman associated with
the feminist movement (Boumelha, 135). In the novel Jude the Obscure, Hardy present his thoughts
on marriage and divorce in the nineteenth century in a way that was radical for his time. Hardy did not
believe in the happy ending, instead he found it to be misleading (Morgan, 111). In this particular text
he refers to marriage as an ugly business, no matter who is involved (Davis, 65). Hardy held the belief
for a long time that marriage should be easy to get out of and it appeared throughout many of novels,
not just Jude the Obscure (Davis, 123). In this novel, he references the

Gwendolyn Brook And Kwame Dawess Analysis
The African American Struggle Through Contemporary Poetry Ai, Gwendolyn Brooks, and Kwame
Dawes are all contemporary African American poets. Their works often focused on different aspects
of the post civil rights movement in the African American community. Ai was known for writing
poetry on hard subjects. She was also known for writing poems that were graphic. Being multiracial,(
1/2 Japanese, 1/8 Choctaw, 1/4 Black, and 1/16 Irish), many of her poems were based on the
complexity of identity ( qtd. in Ai, a Steadfast Poetic Channel of Hard Lives, Dies at 62 ). On the other
hand, Kwame Dawes is a Nigerian born man of Jamaican descent. Gwendolyn Brooks was an African
American woman whose adult years were spent during the civil rights movement. Tornado Child is a
poem written by Kwame Dawes in 2002. It celebrates different aspects of black womanhood. In
contrast, Gwendolyn Brook s We Real Cool is written in the sixties and talks about the negative
aspects of stereotypes. The Kid by Ai is graphic and depicts violence. All of the poems demonstrate
different struggles that are faced by the African American community. This essay will specifically
examine the African American struggle through the lens of misogynoir, stereotypes, and the
destruction of black families. The first poem, Tornado Child by Kwame Dawes, explores the African
American struggle through misogynoir. Dictionary.com describes misogynoir as the specific hatred,
dislike, distrust, and prejudice

Feminism In Hedda Gabler
To what extent can the work you have studied be considered a work of protest?
Henrik Ibsen uses his play Hedda Gabler to delve into the difficulties women faced in a Victorian
society. Written in 1890, and arguably set in 1860 s Norway, the play can effectively explore the
limitations of these Victorian values, as they were as prevalent as ever in the setting. The play follows
a young and dissatisfied general s daughter, Hedda Gabler, as she and other women around her attempt
to deal with their gender s limited and pre established lifestyle. In Victorian society, women were their
husbands wives; they existed to help their husbands, raise their children, and eventually, pass away. To
really create an effective argument against this pre determined ... Show more content on

Due to the previously explained difficulty of finding meaning by leading a woman s pre determined
life style, Hedda Gabler strays from the norm, as she tries to live through other men (Lovburg in
particular) to find amusement and quests in life. Manipulative as she is, Hedda is able to control
Lovburg. In search for drama, she convinces Lovburg that Mrs. Elvsted is dubious in his abilities to
keep from consuming alcohol, and eventually leads him to begin drinking again. She begins to destroy
his life from here onwards, as he loses his life s work, and ultimately kills himself. Hedda considers
this kind of cruel manipulation as an art than anything. When she gives him a pistol for him to kill
himself, she explains that he should let it happen...beautifully. This not only emphasises the lack of
meaning in a woman s life in Victorian settings as Hedda must resort to finding artfulness in murder,
but also highlights the comparatively much greater prospectus for interest, action, and adventure in a
man s life than in a

My Search For Going To College
What do you mean I cannot live with my parents for the rest of my life? So you mean to tell me that I
actually have to become an adult? . These have been the thoughts plaguing my mind for the past four
years and now that my time is up, I get to do something about them. My main problem with going to
college is being away from my home, my family, and my friends. I knew that if I were to pick the
wrong college, I would be running back to my mom in a weeks time. Finding the right college is a
universal challenge for every upcoming college student, but when I found Baylor University I knew it
was my new home.
My hunt for the perfect college started my freshmen year of high school. During that time in my life, I
felt there was a big weight on my shoulders to be successful in life. Since picking the right college is a
big part of being successful, I was feeling overwhelmed. There are about 1,400 colleges in the United
States and I had to narrow that down to a top five, frantic was an understatement about how I was
feeling. Taking a step back to look at the big picture, I decided to evaluate what I was looking for in a
college; I came up with the following list: have my desired major (Astrophysics), be far away from
home (but not too far), and to live in a big city.
Applying my new set of criteria, I now only had 3 colleges to choose from: University of Texas at
Austin, Rice University, and Baylor University. I gave my contact information to each of them and in
time I had a scheduled visit to Baylor University.
When I arrived on the Baylor campus I immediately felt at home. I had the honor of attending the
Baylor Premier, which acts like a huge campus tour for everyone that attends the seminar.
Everybody was so genuinely nice and enthusiastic about me being there, I got the feeling that was
where I belonged. I could see myself walking the campus with my newly found friends on the way to
our The Atomic Theory 101 class. Although I have a tendency of letting my head float in the sky, I had
to snap myself out of my dreamland and back into reality to remember that I still had two other
options for my perfect college. Not wanting to make my decision after only seeing one school I
scheduled campus tours with The

What Is Procedural Programming Paradigm
Task 1
What is Procedural Programming Paradigm?
In Information Technology(IT) jargon Programming is termed as an innovative process where the
computer receives instructions how to perform a task as per the requirement or solving a specific
problem.
The various ways of attending to the process of programming is known as programming paradigms.
Majority of programming language comes under one paradigm; contrary to this one could observe
some languages having elements of multiple paradigms. Paradigm is a way where a specific code is
arranged. A code comprises various commands or instructions there in relation to functions and or
procedures.
Most vital programming paradigms can be listed as Procedural paradigms and the object oriented
paradigms.

When a particular programme is taken into consideration you may find variables in it. This variable
will be mainly applicable or belongs to that particular function and this is called a local variable.
When variables are need within and outside the function is known to be a global variable.
Produces
Produces are some times called sub programme, routine or method which relates to sequence of orders
to carry out the task.
The main types of Programming Paradigm.
Out of the vast numbers of programming paradigms that are available, the following are know to be
some of the main types.
1. Functional
2. Logical
3. Imperative
4. Object oriented
Functional
In this type of programming which are considered as a subset of declarative programming. The use of
expressions take place and programs created using this paradigm use functions based on the particular
input or the instructions which are provided to the computer.
Eg: Haskell
Logical
Logical paradigm use steps or instructions where are based on solving problems such as computation
as automated reasoning over a body of

Mating Selection Research Paper
Procreation and mating selection are linked to the primal desire of survival and genetic continuity. The
means of creating successful offspring are often paved through distinctive selection, which are often
tailored to specific genetic traits that one or more partners possess. These concepts are a biological
component that drives humans to reproduce with specific individuals. Since humans are unable to
procreate by asexual means, the selection of a mate and their genetic information are highly important
in concepts of reproduction. Males and females alike are psychologically and physically wired to
make mating choice based on concepts of physical presentation and characteristics. These components
often link together couples for mating purposes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This has always been a present factor due to its capability to foresee danger, such as a fire or
unpleasant smell. Since humans tend to avoid disturbing smells to survive, this biological mechanism
has also been shown to translate with human selection. This biological component is tailored to
pheromones, or chemicals that the body produces. These pheromones are used to attract the attention
of a mate. An article titled Human Pheromones: The Science Behind the Scent of Attraction states that
pheromones signal reproductive quality when excreted by various regions such as skin, sweat glands
and urine and furthermore only about 10 percent of men give off a specific pheromone androsterone
which is the so called sex appeal ( Human Pheromones ) Humans produce sweat in places that
produce a lot of hair. While this mechanism is used to keep the body from over heating, the sweat also
comes into contact with the hair in each area. Sweat and the hair produce a specific scent that others
around you may pick up on, and depending on the individual, this scent may be pleasant or fowl.
Woman tend to prefer a musky scent where men prefer a lighter scent. Each individual scent is tailored
to a specific person, and generally the mate will find this smell pleasant and enjoy the biological
components their partner creates. This concept is actually shown to be an immune system component
where scent is used to

Women In The Yellow Wall-Paper
Some women felt like in the 19th century felt trapped just like the women in the Yellow Wall Paper.
The woman in the book symbolized that women who wanted to get out but couldn t and who struggled
because they had no way out. The women felt that they were supposed to be what men wanted a

other people had wanted. Most of them wouldn t come right out and say it because they felt that it

education to both men and women were considered acceptable. It wasn t until when women started
going to college and finding their own inner peace and not going to college just to find a man, they
were going to find who they wanted to be. Now, there were still some women who wanted to go to
college to marry a man, but it slowed down once it was acceptable for women to get out of their
houses and work for a living. In the Peril article one question asked for a magazine stated, What
should a girl learn in college? This question makes it sound like girls were not made to go to college
because of their status. It sounds like, Why even go to college? I mean, What would women want to
learn? Yes, we are different from the way we were taught and brought up, but that doesn t make it
right to not allow us to go college or university because of people thinking that women would not be

Effects Of Expenditure On Terrorism
Expenditure on Terrorism
The money that has been spent by the United States to counter terrorism is over exaggerated and does
not reflect value for money. No one can dispute that terrorism is a unique kind of threat and it is evil.
However, the money spent in this area is exaggerated in both official mind and the public. The risk of
death from a terrorist attack in the United States today is very minimal. The danger in itself is remote
with a low probability of happening. For instance, since 1970, only 3305 United States citizens have
been killed by terrorism. If 9/11 fatalities are deducted from this figure, the number drops to 397.
Therefore, the ratio of being killed by terrorism is 1:110,000,000. In 2010, 3841 people died from
drowning, 32,999 in car accidents, 2791 from malnutrition, 38,369 from suicide and 29 from lighting
(Sherry 3). In the same year, only four deaths from terrorism were reported by the government. The
cases of terrorism are of lone wolf variety which America has faced for years. Therefore, what is
needed is to come up with tactics for dealing with the same old problem. The whole issue of ISIS
threat is overhyped, and it is usually a tactic used by the government to justify its expenditure on
counterterrorism.
War on Terror Strategy
To fight and suppress terrorism the United States should abandon their traditional approaches. The war
is not a real war but a war of ideologies. To win this war, the United States has to stop excessive use of

A Brief Note On The Country Of South Africa
Geography Lesotho, from which the capital is Maseru, is located in southern Africa and is an enclave
of South Africa (SA), sharing 909km of borders with its land locking neighbor. The terrain is mostly
composed of highlands with plateaus, hills, and mountains; it is the only country in the world that has
the totality of its land above 1000 meters. Arable land and permanent crops account for 10.27% of the
land while the rest (89.72%) is mountainous. The surface area is 30,355 sq km; same size as Belgium,
slightly smaller than Maryland. Some of Lesotho s natural resources are water, diamonds, sand, clay
and building stone. The nation produces mostly cereals such as corn, wheat, pulses, sorghum, barley
and also livestock. Lesotho is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is mostly due to the fact that almost one person out of four is living with HIV or AIDS, the
second highest rate in the world. Therefore, almost one eighth of the GDP ( which was $2.457 billion
in 2013, ranking 175 compared to the rest of the world) goes to health care. Interestingly, 90% of the
population can read and write at the age of fifteen thanks to Lesotho being the country that spends the
highest proportion of its GDP (13%) towards education in the world. Economics Lesotho relies
heavily on SA: 90% of goods are imported and most Basotho (people living in Lesotho) are counting
on remittance from family members working in mines, on farms and as domestic workers in SA. Only
20% of the food is produced locally, the rest is mostly imported from SA. Government incomes
heavily rely on exchanges with SA through custom duties and royalties from water transfers. Energy
In Lesotho, more than 75% of the population can be considered as energy poor, relying on inferior
energy resources: biomass, i.e. wood, shrubs, dung, and crop residues. In rural areas, the proportion of
biomass usage for energy needs goes up to 90%. Such dependency has tremendous socio economic
effects: collection of biomass is mostly bared by women and children leading to a loss of productive
time for the former and educative time for the latter. Furthermore,

Body-Checks In Hockey
Stephen McKichan, a goaltender for the Milwaukee Admirals, suffered a career altering injury during
December 15, 1990 minor league hockey game against the Peoria Rivermen. The injury occurred
during the third period of the game when the Rivermen skater, Tony Twist, body checked McKichan;
rendering the goaltender unconscious as a result (Breitenbucher, 1990, p. 7). The body check occurred
both during a play stoppage and after a referee had twice blown his whistle to signal a stoppage in
play. Twist was ejected from the game almost immediately after the incident and would later be levied
an indefinite suspension by IHL, the league in which the teams play. Body checks are common in the

Comparing the first and third experiments, we see that if [S2O8 2] is tripled, the rate also triples.
Therefore the reaction is also first order in [I ].

quot;El Corazon Lowrider quot; Essay
The bright colors caught my eye and the image reminded me a little of my hometown. Where I come

Of when, I guess you can call them thugs, would drive up and down the streets of Dumas in there

thought low riders were absurd and that they were a mark down to the cars real stature. Luis Jimenez s

down the bake side of it in a combination of colors.
The painting has certain elements that make it unique; the colors of the painting are derived from five
main colors that are displayed throughout the painting, red, white, green, yellow and gray. The colors
used in this painting are both realistic and symbolic. Luis Jimenez shows a lot of pride in his works
that depict his Mexican culture. These colors come together to make a cartoon like image where the
characters and features of the painting look as though they are nonrealistic. The car is somewhat
distorted into a rounded moving shape and the characters have real accented features. The car seems to
be the center of attention and the man inside the car who is driving stands out the most with his bright

they are driving through some kind of dream. Where the exhaust that comes from the car being red,

How Does Piggy Build Order In Lord Of The Flies
Have you ever considered what would happen without anyone present to maintain order? Throughout
William Golding s The Lord of the Flies , Piggy is portrayed as the responsible one on the island and
helps develop a theme of order versus chaos through his organization on the island, the bullying he
faces and his death. Piggy s attempt to organize on the island helps develop a theme of order versus
chaos because having an organized society helps build order, and Piggy attempted to re create that. An
example is where it describes Piggy when Ralph first blows the conch: Piggy moved among the
crowd, asking names and frowning to remember them. (14). The fact that asking people their names is
the first job that Piggy does shows that he wants to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He made the conch a symbol of order. The conch brings the boys together for meetings where they can
talk and have order. Piggy also makes it so you cannot speak unless you have the conch. Piggy and the
conch become very close, as if Piggy feels it as the only thing that has order, from being humiliated by
all the other boys. An example of this is after all the boys run up the mountain to make a fire: Like
kids! he said scornfully, Acting like a crowd of kids! Ralph looked at him doubtfully and laid the
conch on a tree trunk... What do they think they re going to do on that mountain? He caressed the shell
respectively, then stopped and looked up. Ralph! Hey! Where are you going? (37). This shows that the
conch is a symbol of order because Ralph puts it down once order is lost and chaos begins when all
the boys run up the mountain, but Piggy picks it up and starts caressing it, mourning the loss of order.
Finally, he stops caressing it when Ralph decides to join the chaos and runs up the mountain after the
other boys. Piggy is killed when Roger pushes a rock on Piggy which shatters the conch and sends
Piggy flying out to sea to his death: The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the
conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist. (200). This shows that with the
death of Piggy, the conch, a symbol of order on the island, also dies. Note how Golding describes it as
ceased to exist . It shows that order ceased to exist with the death of the conch and Piggy, the only two
things on the island that build or represent order, and how chaos ensues after they are gone. That is
why Piggy s death on the island helps develop a theme of order versus

that concern many of things going in everyone s life today. Drinking, gambling, love, sex, fate, and
fortune are just a few of the topics Orff composed of.1 In this concert report I will go through the
pieces that stood out the most to me. As mentioned, the most famous piece of this work ... Show more

Before reading the text in translation, this piece gave the idea of a rabbit jumping through to pasture or
meadow to a novice listener like myself. This piece picks up from the last movement still pertaining to
fortune. In the latter part of this piece Orff actually wrote in his overall theme by mentioning the
wheel of Fortune turns . The fourth movement, Omnia sol temperat is sung in a completely different
way. It begins with a male soloist singing, accompanied softly by violins. The way Orff chose to
display this movement shows that there is no defined rhythm he is following. The soloist singing in a
profound masculine voice sets the tone for this movement. The next movement discussed stands out as
being one of the longest works of the cantata. In taberna quando sumus opens with stringed
instruments followed by percussion, and then a variety of other instruments join with the chorus.
When we are in the tavern , the title sets this piece up for what I think would have a been a popular
movement when it originated. Orff tells of drinking and gambling at the tavern, then goes on to list
thirty names such as the rich man and the poor man that all drink. This stood out to me because I didn
t see this coming at all! It is also my least my favorite piece of the work. With the setting what it is, I
didn t particularly like the minor tone heard on and off in this

Human Gait Essay
Abstract ABSTRACT One of the main goals of computer vision research is to develop methods for
recognition of objects and events. A subclass of these problems is the recognition of humans and their
activities. Recognition of humans from arbitrary viewpoints is an important requirement for different
applications such as intelligent environments, surveillance and access control. Human gait is an
attractive modality for recognizing people at a distance. Human gait is a spatio temporal phenomenon
that characterizes the motion characteristics of an individual. There is an increased interest in gait as a
biometric, mainly due to its nonintrusive as well as non concealable nature. It is possible to detect and
measure gait even in low ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goal of gait recognition research is to determine how that information can be extracted from
images. The fact that each person seems to have a distinctive (idiosyncratic) way of walking is hardly
surprising from a biomechanics standpoint. Human ambulation consists of synchronized integrated
movements of hundreds of muscles and joints in the body. Although these movements follow the same
basic pattern for all humans, they seem to vary from one individual to another in certain details such
as their relative timing and magnitudes. Much research in biomechanics and clinical gait analysis
(among others) is devoted to the study of the inter person and intra person variability of gait (albeit not
for the purpose of recognition, but rather to determine normal vs. pathological ranges of 3
Introduction variation). The major sources of inter person variability are attributed to physical
makeup, such as body mass and lengths of limbs, while the sources for intra person variability are
things like walking surface, footwear, mood and fatigue. Nonetheless, the gait of any one individual is
known to be fairly repeatable when walking under the same conditions. This intra person consistency
and inter person variability are what makes gait suitable (desirable) for use as a biometric. In this
proposal, we present a gait recognition technique which takes a motionbased recognition approach,
and use correspondence free

Abstract
Justice System in Egypt and the United States are similar in many ways. Egypt Justice System bases
its criminal code on British, Napoleon, and Italian models. There are three main categories of crime in

The Egyptians had harsh punishments for breaking the law. The laws were based on common sense
view of right and wrong. It depended on which crime the criminal did to figure out which punishment
they would receive. Not only would it disgrace them, but it would disgrace their whole family.
Now, Egypt uses criminal codes. The criminal codes listed three main categories of crime: minor
offenses, misdemeanors, and felonies. Lower courts handled the majority of these cases. Capitol
crimes that carried a possible death sentence includes murder, manslaughter, arson or the uses of
explosives that caused death, rape, treason, and endangerment of state security. In Egypt few
convictions for capital crimes, however, resulted in execution.
Egypt laws required that a detained person be brought before a magistrate and formally charged within
48 hours or released. The accused are entitled to post bail and had the right to defended by legal
counsel. Searches can not be conducted without a warrant.
The justice system in the United States is one of the most unique in the world. It consists of two
separate levels of courts, state and federal.. Most of the laws that govern our day to day living are state
laws; violations of federal law include offenses involving federal government employees, kidnapping
or evading arrest, and fraud such as income tax or postal fraud.
There are two types of trials: criminal and civil. In a

The Bangladesh Liberation War was a Major Event that...
The Bangladesh Liberation War was a major event that left a huge, lasting effect on our world.
Starting on March 21, 1971 and lasting one month long, the war became a fight over power and
authority. The war affected Pakistan and India greatly. It was first triggered when East and West
Pakistan had issues. India became involved in the war when they decided to help East Pakistan. The
war affected a great number of people. Just like any war, The Bangladesh Liberation War had many
devastating tragedies. Although the tragedies were an obstacle, everything ended up working out for
the uprising of Bangladesh.
There were multiple causes of The Bangladesh Liberation War. These causes include the lack of
sharing power between East and West Pakistan, resources, language, and the Bhola Cyclone. Pakistan
was divided up into provinces. West Pakistan had four provinces that included Punjab, Sindh,
Balochistan, and the North West Frontier. East Pakistan was a province all on its own. Although the
majority of the population lived in East Pakistan, it seemed as if West Pakistan had complete control
over East Pakistan. East Pakistan had little to no political power. Resources was also a cause of the
war. Since West Pakistan had complete control over East Pakistan, they used more resources than the
east did. Between the years of 1948 and 1960, 70% of all of Pakistan s exports were made by East
Pakistan. Sadly, East Pakistan only received 25% of the imported money because West Pakistan was

Factors That Affect The Health Care Industry
High turnover in any industry can be a worry, particularly to those that are client driven.
Establishments with high demand you must think about how the client, will benefit as well as how to
care for patients with general experience. Many people are okay with staying at an entry level job; but
many aren t. Not staying at an entry level job may be due to the pay or it may be that they believe they
can do a lot more with themselves. Caregivers have this thought all too much, some want to get
certified as a CNA. The training is not too long and can better them at their skill, as well as raise their
pay rate just by getting certified. Caregivers are at high demand. But the constant struggle to retain
quality caregivers is negatively impacting the health care industry. Direct care workers, nurse aides,
home health aides, and personal and home care aides they are all the same but are named differently.
They are the primary providers of paid hands on care for more than 13 million elderly and disabled
Americans. Although direct care workers constitute one of the largest and fastest growing sectors of
the workforce, there is a shortage of these workers in every community throughout the United States.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act strengthens the investment in direct care work by
authorizing several new initiatives aimed at improving the quality of direct care jobs, workforce
development, and long term care. Today s direct care workers must have the strength to care

Fellowship Of The Ring Book Analysis
J.R. R. Tolkien s classic novel The Fellowship of the Ring was made into a film in 2001 and directed
by Peter Jackson. This essay will be examining this specific film through a worldview perspective. For
the purposes of this essay, worldview will be defined as a perceptual framework . (The Transforming
Vision, pg. 17) Worldviews can be specific to a single person, or generalized to a group of people. The
worldview expressed in this essay through examples from The Fellowship of the Ring will come from
the theme of Creation.
This theme of Creation is correlated with the creation of the universe by God, as written in the book of
Genesis. God created the heavens and the earth before Jesus was born; before salvation ever occurred.
Similarly, The Fellowship of the Ring opens with a narrative explaining what the One Ring was and
its importance to the rest of the story. The film does not begin with Frodo saving the day, but rather the
history that laid the foundation for his journey to happen. The ring was forged in the fires of Orodruin
by the Dark Lord Sauron after he convinced the elven smiths of Eregoin to forge the Rings of Power.
Although God is nowhere near the same as Sauron, both created something specific to bring glory to
themselves: God made the world, Sauron made a ring. The difference is that God had a holy and
righteous reason for creating, while Sauron did it for evil and selfish purposes. God was able to speak
the earth into existence (Genesis 1:3), but Sauron had

they are located under water they don t have snow but Joseph can make it possible for this generation

in Philadelphia which is far from what he had left Chicago and all the murders had already been
committed, yes the murders went undetected and no one would have ever known if he was not

associate Ben Pitezel. Despite Holmes confession of killing 27 other people (some of those people
were later discovered to be alive and well), he was officially linked to nine murders. 6Ben Pitezel was
killed before Holmes moved to Chicago but it was even discussed that Holmes could have killed as
many as 200 people in Chicago. Holmes might have only been truly found guilty for 9 murders but

Participant Observer
I have been going back and forth for a while on the type of essay I would like to write. I wanted to
interest readers, but also write about something that interests me. Lately, I have been having trouble
with friendships, and I feel as though no one understands that. When I had a conversation with my
mom she explained, that my sister was going through the same thing. That is when the idea hit me.
My sister has been obsessed with horses since she was young, and as of recently, she finally got her
own horse. Although I will never understand how she can love such a smelly creature, she has
somehow found a beautiful bond with it. For my essay topic I want to take the stance of a participant
observer , and help my sister with her horse. I will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason this topic will work is because we are only two and a half miles from the place we are
boarding the horse. This will provide us with no time constraints. Another reason why this will work
well, is because this is my sister. I am around her for most of the day, and neither of us are extremely
busy. The final reason this will work, is because I am interested in the topic. My sister and I aren t
very close, and I hope that through this experience we can form a bond. I have been tossing up two
ideas for my main focus. They are, teaching the readers about horses and showing the bond my sister
has created with her horse. I am leaning more towards showing the bond, because it is a beautiful
thing. I hope to provide readers with a first person look into this experience. I will provide this with
dialogue between my sister and I, and through my own interactions with the horses. The reason why
this is a good essay topic for me is because I picked it. I have a perfectionist personality, and picking
paper topics is one of my biggest struggles in writing. I never feel as though they are good enough,
that is why this topic is perfect. I thought of it, and I instantly wanted to use it. I hope you find this
topic interesting enough for this assignment. Thank you for you time and

How Is Antonio An Inhumane Persuasive Letter
I apologise for interrupting, wise Duke, and honourable members of the Venetian Court. I am
Gratiano, a close friend of Antonio s. My relationship with Antonio has allowed me to observe
Shylock over the years and never have I seen even a streak of kindness and forgiveness emerge from
his blackened heart. He is the most sinister man that I have ever encountered in my life. His thoughts
are full of greed for money and plans for revenge against his never ending hatred for Christians. Thus,
I believe you are mistaken in thinking that Shylock should receive the penalty for the breach of a
contract. I am indeed well aware of the contract between Antonio and Shylock and believe the terms
of this bond were nowhere near fair; they are inhumane, and even Jessica, Shylock s runaway
daughter, agrees that this is so; in fact, she betrayed him due to his brutishness! And in any case, what
kind of a person would want a pound of flesh from an innocent Christian? To add to my point, who in
their right mind would want a pound of Antonio s flesh? He is the purest, most loyal friend ... Show

Babies and children spend most of their time in this stage, but as we grow older we spend less time in
REM. (Blackman, 2000) * Non REM sleep Non REM sleep is a much deeper, more restful kind of
sleep. In non REM sleep, the person s body is free to move around. Non REM dreams are more likely
to consist of brief, fragmentary impressions that are less emotional and less likely to involve visual
images than REM sleep dreams and are more frequently forgotten. The period of Non REM sleep is
made up of four stages. Each stage can last from 5 to 15 minutes. A completed cycle of sleep consists
of a progression from stages 1 4 before REM sleep is attained, then the cycle starts over again. People
begin the sleep cycle with a period of non REM sleep followed by a very short period of REM sleep
(Chang, 2010). A machine called an electroencephalograph (EEG) allows scientists to see the brain
wave activity as a person passes through the various stages of sleep to determine what type of sleep
the person has entered ( Aserinsky amp; Kleitman, 1953). A person who is wide awake and mentally
active will show a brain wave pattern on the EEG called beta waves. Beta waves are small and fast. As
the person relaxes and gets drowsy, slightly larger and slower alpha waves appear. The alpha waves
are eventually replaced by even slower and larger theta waves. Non REM Stage 1: as theta wave

The Founding Of Rome: Romulus and Remus History has appointed an important event, surrounded
by myth, that envelopes the foundation of the most magnificent city of the western world, Rome. The
myth was initiated by Roman scholars of the late century B.C., who despite the fact that they had not
witnessed any of the events concerning Romulus and Remus, created this myth from only a figment of
imagination and beliefs. Romans and many historians of our day owe their gratitude to these scholars
for their contribution to the history of the foundation of Rome. The existence of Remus and Romulus

based on true events. In addition, we have to consider the fact that Romans have always credited the
founding of Rome to the existence of these prominent twins, thus explaining their importance in the
establishment of this city. Furthermore, we have to recognize the importance of Rhea and the god
Mars, who played a significant role in the foundation of Rome because past events that occurred to
them led to the establishment of this city. In conclusion, despite the fact that the story of Romulus and
Remus and the founding of Rome is considered a myth, they are still recognized as an essential pillar

Causes And Consequences Of Untreated Mental Illness
In a given year, one out of every four American adults will suffer from a mental illness. Therefore, it
would be logical to hypothesize that you or someone you love may be affected by mental illness at
some point in your or his or her lifetime. A meta synthesis of 144 quantitative and qualitative studies
consisting of 90,189 participants highlighted that 52% 74% of Americans and Europeans with mental
disorders do not receive treatment. This is problematic for many reasons, as untreated mental illness
has devastating and even deadly consequences. A 2014 study conducted by the RAND Cooperation
found that approximately 90% of subjects with mental disordered reported being stigmatized and
discriminated against in the past year. A 2014 World Health Organization study relived that every 40
second someone commits suicide, which amounts to over a staggering 800,000 suicides every year.
Now, take into consideration the families, friends, and loved one s who suffer the devastating loss of
their loved ones whose death could have certainly been prevented. The harsh reality is mothers,
fathers, sisters, brothers, husbands and wives take their life every single day. My research question is
why are the mentally ill stigmatized? Does gender affect attitudes towards mental illness? I am
studying the effect gender has on views towards mental illness. My dependent variable is attitudes
towards mental illness and my independent variable is gender. My supporting independent variables

The Eighteenth Brumaire Of Louis Bonaparte Essay
The Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte was written by Karl Marx a few months after the
December 1851 coup d etat of Louis Bonaparte in France. In this short text, Marx further examined
the revolution of 1848 and the series of political reversals which eventually led to the coup. Marx
views the coup as a consequence of sharp intensifications of class antagonisms in modern bourgeois
society, which is the central idea of the theory of revolutionary change presented in the Communist
Manifesto. Therefore, his analysis in the Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte allows us to
understand how his theory bears out in practice. However, in the latter text, Marx also made some
adjustments to his theory. He went from a simple, bifurcate model consisting of only a dominating
class and a dominated class to a more sophisticated understanding where he identifies the subgroups
within the main groups, as well as the roles each of these factions played during the course of the
revolution. In this paper, I will explain the revolution theory proposed by Marx and Engels in the
Communist Manifesto, and how the theory was applied and adjusted in the Eighteenth Brumaire to
make concrete historical sense of the events happened during the years between 1848 to 1851. In The
Communist Manifesto, Marx famously claimed that The history of all hitherto existing society is the
history of class struggle (Marx, p.219). For Marx, the engine of history is the productive power. In
every society, there

  • 2. Portrayal Of A Woman Associated By Thomas Hardy Novelist Thomas Hardy voiced many strong opinions through his writing about the crushing power of Victorian society and the rules and regulations concerning marriage. Contradicting the expectations of society was something Hardy delighted in, but Hardy s reader response began to suffer. As his career progressed, his novels became increasingly more pessimistic and his readers heavily criticized his last two novels. After writing Jude the Obscure, he resolved to not write any more novels because of the negative feedback he kept receiving for this and his previous novel. However, Hardy was able to expertly incorporate his beliefs into his narratives and reflect his views upon his characters. This results in the rebellious characters described in Jude the Obscure, particularly the character Sue Bridehead. This character has been described as the first fiction portrayal of a woman associated with the feminist movement (Boumelha, 135). In the novel Jude the Obscure, Hardy present his thoughts on marriage and divorce in the nineteenth century in a way that was radical for his time. Hardy did not believe in the happy ending, instead he found it to be misleading (Morgan, 111). In this particular text he refers to marriage as an ugly business, no matter who is involved (Davis, 65). Hardy held the belief for a long time that marriage should be easy to get out of and it appeared throughout many of novels, not just Jude the Obscure (Davis, 123). In this novel, he references the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Gwendolyn Brook And Kwame Dawess Analysis The African American Struggle Through Contemporary Poetry Ai, Gwendolyn Brooks, and Kwame Dawes are all contemporary African American poets. Their works often focused on different aspects of the post civil rights movement in the African American community. Ai was known for writing poetry on hard subjects. She was also known for writing poems that were graphic. Being multiracial,( 1/2 Japanese, 1/8 Choctaw, 1/4 Black, and 1/16 Irish), many of her poems were based on the complexity of identity ( qtd. in Ai, a Steadfast Poetic Channel of Hard Lives, Dies at 62 ). On the other hand, Kwame Dawes is a Nigerian born man of Jamaican descent. Gwendolyn Brooks was an African American woman whose adult years were spent during the civil rights movement. Tornado Child is a poem written by Kwame Dawes in 2002. It celebrates different aspects of black womanhood. In contrast, Gwendolyn Brook s We Real Cool is written in the sixties and talks about the negative aspects of stereotypes. The Kid by Ai is graphic and depicts violence. All of the poems demonstrate different struggles that are faced by the African American community. This essay will specifically examine the African American struggle through the lens of misogynoir, stereotypes, and the destruction of black families. The first poem, Tornado Child by Kwame Dawes, explores the African American struggle through misogynoir. • 4. Feminism In Hedda Gabler To what extent can the work you have studied be considered a work of protest? Henrik Ibsen uses his play Hedda Gabler to delve into the difficulties women faced in a Victorian society. Written in 1890, and arguably set in 1860 s Norway, the play can effectively explore the limitations of these Victorian values, as they were as prevalent as ever in the setting. The play follows a young and dissatisfied general s daughter, Hedda Gabler, as she and other women around her attempt to deal with their gender s limited and pre established lifestyle. In Victorian society, women were their husbands wives; they existed to help their husbands, raise their children, and eventually, pass away. To really create an effective argument against this pre determined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the previously explained difficulty of finding meaning by leading a woman s pre determined life style, Hedda Gabler strays from the norm, as she tries to live through other men (Lovburg in particular) to find amusement and quests in life. Manipulative as she is, Hedda is able to control Lovburg. In search for drama, she convinces Lovburg that Mrs. Elvsted is dubious in his abilities to keep from consuming alcohol, and eventually leads him to begin drinking again. She begins to destroy his life from here onwards, as he loses his life s work, and ultimately kills himself. Hedda considers this kind of cruel manipulation as an art than anything. When she gives him a pistol for him to kill himself, she explains that he should let it happen...beautifully. This not only emphasises the lack of meaning in a woman s life in Victorian settings as Hedda must resort to finding artfulness in murder, but also highlights the comparatively much greater prospectus for interest, action, and adventure in a man s life than in a ... • 5. My Search For Going To College What do you mean I cannot live with my parents for the rest of my life? So you mean to tell me that I actually have to become an adult? . These have been the thoughts plaguing my mind for the past four years and now that my time is up, I get to do something about them. My main problem with going to college is being away from my home, my family, and my friends. I knew that if I were to pick the wrong college, I would be running back to my mom in a weeks time. Finding the right college is a universal challenge for every upcoming college student, but when I found Baylor University I knew it was my new home. My hunt for the perfect college started my freshmen year of high school. During that time in my life, I felt there was a big weight on my shoulders to be successful in life. Since picking the right college is a big part of being successful, I was feeling overwhelmed. There are about 1,400 colleges in the United States and I had to narrow that down to a top five, frantic was an understatement about how I was feeling. Taking a step back to look at the big picture, I decided to evaluate what I was looking for in a college; I came up with the following list: have my desired major (Astrophysics), be far away from home (but not too far), and to live in a big city. Applying my new set of criteria, I now only had 3 colleges to choose from: University of Texas at Austin, Rice University, and Baylor University. I gave my contact information to each of them and in time I had a scheduled visit to Baylor University. When I arrived on the Baylor campus I immediately felt at home. I had the honor of attending the Baylor Premier, which acts like a huge campus tour for everyone that attends the seminar. Everybody was so genuinely nice and enthusiastic about me being there, I got the feeling that was where I belonged. I could see myself walking the campus with my newly found friends on the way to our The Atomic Theory 101 class. Although I have a tendency of letting my head float in the sky, I had to snap myself out of my dreamland and back into reality to remember that I still had two other options for my perfect college. Not wanting to make my decision after only seeing one school I scheduled campus tours with The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The means of creating successful offspring are often paved through distinctive selection, which are often tailored to specific genetic traits that one or more partners possess. These concepts are a biological component that drives humans to reproduce with specific individuals. Since humans are unable to procreate by asexual means, the selection of a mate and their genetic information are highly important in concepts of reproduction. Males and females alike are psychologically and physically wired to make mating choice based on concepts of physical presentation and characteristics. An article titled Human Pheromones: The Science Behind the Scent of Attraction states that pheromones signal reproductive quality when excreted by various regions such as skin, sweat glands and urine and furthermore only about 10 percent of men give off a specific pheromone androsterone which is the so called sex appeal ( Human Pheromones ) Humans produce sweat in places that produce a lot of hair. While this mechanism is used to keep the body from over heating, the sweat also comes into contact with the hair in each area. Sweat and the hair produce a specific scent that others around you may pick up on, and depending on the individual, this scent may be pleasant or fowl. Woman tend to prefer a musky scent where men prefer a lighter scent. • 9. Effects Of Expenditure On Terrorism Expenditure on Terrorism The money that has been spent by the United States to counter terrorism is over exaggerated and does not reflect value for money. No one can dispute that terrorism is a unique kind of threat and it is evil. However, the money spent in this area is exaggerated in both official mind and the public. The risk of death from a terrorist attack in the United States today is very minimal. The danger in itself is remote with a low probability of happening. For instance, since 1970, only 3305 United States citizens have been killed by terrorism. If 9/11 fatalities are deducted from this figure, the number drops to 397. Therefore, the ratio of being killed by terrorism is 1:110,000,000. In 2010, 3841 people died from drowning, 32,999 in car accidents, 2791 from malnutrition, 38,369 from suicide and 29 from lighting (Sherry 3). In the same year, only four deaths from terrorism were reported by the government. The cases of terrorism are of lone wolf variety which America has faced for years. Therefore, what is needed is to come up with tactics for dealing with the same old problem. The whole issue of ISIS threat is overhyped, and it is usually a tactic used by the government to justify its expenditure on counterterrorism. War on Terror Strategy To fight and suppress terrorism the United States should abandon their traditional approaches. The war is not a real war but a war of ideologies. To win this war, the United States has to stop excessive use of military ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. How Does Piggy Build Order In Lord Of The Flies Have you ever considered what would happen without anyone present to maintain order? Throughout William Golding s The Lord of the Flies , Piggy is portrayed as the responsible one on the island and helps develop a theme of order versus chaos through his organization on the island, the bullying he faces and his death. Piggy s attempt to organize on the island helps develop a theme of order versus chaos because having an organized society helps build order, and Piggy attempted to re create that. An example is where it describes Piggy when Ralph first blows the conch: Piggy moved among the crowd, asking names and frowning to remember them. (14). The conch brings the boys together for meetings where they can talk and have order. Piggy also makes it so you cannot speak unless you have the conch. Piggy and the conch become very close, as if Piggy feels it as the only thing that has order, from being humiliated by all the other boys. An example of this is after all the boys run up the mountain to make a fire: Like kids! he said scornfully, Acting like a crowd of kids! Ralph looked at him doubtfully and laid the conch on a tree trunk... What do they think they re going to do on that mountain? He caressed the shell respectively, then stopped and looked up. Ralph! Hey! Where are you going? (37). This shows that the conch is a symbol of order because Ralph puts it down once order is lost and chaos begins when all the boys run up the mountain, but Piggy picks it up and starts caressing it, mourning the loss of order. Finally, he stops caressing it when Ralph decides to join the chaos and runs up the mountain after the other boys. Piggy is killed when Roger pushes a rock on Piggy which shatters the conch and sends Piggy flying out to sea to his death: The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist. (200). This shows that with the death of Piggy, the conch, a symbol of order on the island, also dies. Note how Golding describes it as ceased to exist . It shows that order ceased to exist with the death of the conch and Piggy, the only two things on the island that build or represent order, and how chaos ensues after they are gone. The fourth movement, Omnia sol temperat is sung in a completely different way. It begins with a male soloist singing, accompanied softly by violins. A subclass of these problems is the recognition of humans and their activities. Human gait is an attractive modality for recognizing people at a distance. Human gait is a spatio temporal phenomenon that characterizes the motion characteristics of an individual. The fact that each person seems to have a distinctive (idiosyncratic) way of walking is hardly surprising from a biomechanics standpoint. Human ambulation consists of synchronized integrated movements of hundreds of muscles and joints in the body. Although these movements follow the same basic pattern for all humans, they seem to vary from one individual to another in certain details such as their relative timing and magnitudes. Much research in biomechanics and clinical gait analysis (among others) is devoted to the study of the inter person and intra person variability of gait (albeit not for the purpose of recognition, but rather to determine normal vs. pathological ranges of 3 Introduction variation). The major sources of inter person variability are attributed to physical makeup, such as body mass and lengths of limbs, while the sources for intra person variability are things like walking surface, footwear, mood and fatigue. Nonetheless, the gait of any one individual is known to be fairly repeatable when walking under the same conditions. This intra person consistency and inter person variability are what makes gait suitable (desirable) for use as a biometric. (The Transforming Vision, pg. 17) Worldviews can be specific to a single person, or generalized to a group of people. The worldview expressed in this essay through examples from The Fellowship of the Ring will come from the theme of Creation. I have a perfectionist personality, and picking paper topics is one of my biggest struggles in writing. I never feel as though they are good enough, that is why this topic is perfect. I thought of it, and I instantly wanted to use it. I hope you find this topic interesting enough for this assignment. Thank you for you time and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. How Is Antonio An Inhumane Persuasive Letter I apologise for interrupting, wise Duke, and honourable members of the Venetian Court. I am Gratiano, a close friend of Antonio s. My relationship with Antonio has allowed me to observe Shylock over the years and never have I seen even a streak of kindness and forgiveness emerge from his blackened heart. He is the most sinister man that I have ever encountered in my life. His thoughts are full of greed for money and plans for revenge against his never ending hatred for Christians. Thus, I believe you are mistaken in thinking that Shylock should receive the penalty for the breach of a contract. I am indeed well aware of the contract between Antonio and Shylock and believe the terms of this bond were nowhere near fair; they are inhumane, and even Jessica, Shylock s runaway daughter, agrees that this is so; in fact, she betrayed him due to his brutishness! And in any case, what kind of a person would want a pound of flesh from an innocent Christian? To add to my point, who in their right mind would want a pound of Antonio s flesh? He is the purest, most loyal friend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our dear Antonio, he has not committed any sinful acts to receive this punishment. The money that was lost in the shipwreck that was unavoidable, it was an accident! The loan wasn t even for himself but for his dear friend Bassanio. The loyalty he has shown in front of us all is undeniable, good Bassanio, wise Duke, fellow Christians , we ve all heard these words from him. Even in his language, we see his respect towards us. I understand that the contract has been broken but consider all the acts of kindness Antonio has shown, he is a respected man by all means who undeserving of the Jews ... (Blackman, 2000) * Non REM sleep Non REM sleep is a much deeper, more restful kind of sleep. In non REM sleep, the person s body is free to move around. Non REM dreams are more likely to consist of brief, fragmentary impressions that are less emotional and less likely to involve visual images than REM sleep dreams and are more frequently forgotten. The period of Non REM sleep is made up of four stages. Each stage can last from 5 to 15 minutes. A completed cycle of sleep consists of a progression from stages 1 4 before REM sleep is attained, then the cycle starts over again. People begin the sleep cycle with a period of non REM sleep followed by a very short period of REM sleep (Chang, 2010). A machine called an electroencephalograph (EEG) allows scientists to see the brain wave activity as a person passes through the various stages of sleep to determine what type of sleep the person has entered ( Aserinsky amp; Kleitman, 1953). A person who is wide awake and mentally active will show a brain wave pattern on the EEG called beta waves. Beta waves are small and fast. As the person relaxes and gets drowsy, slightly larger and slower alpha waves appear. The alpha waves are eventually replaced by even slower and larger theta waves. The myth was initiated by Roman scholars of the late century B.C., who despite the fact that they had not witnessed any of the events concerning Romulus and Remus, created this myth from only a figment of imagination and beliefs. • 31. Causes And Consequences Of Untreated Mental Illness In a given year, one out of every four American adults will suffer from a mental illness. Therefore, it would be logical to hypothesize that you or someone you love may be affected by mental illness at some point in your or his or her lifetime. A meta synthesis of 144 quantitative and qualitative studies consisting of 90,189 participants highlighted that 52% 74% of Americans and Europeans with mental disorders do not receive treatment. This is problematic for many reasons, as untreated mental illness has devastating and even deadly consequences. A 2014 study conducted by the RAND Cooperation found that approximately 90% of subjects with mental disordered reported being stigmatized and discriminated against in the past year. A 2014 World Health Organization study relived that every 40 second someone commits suicide, which amounts to over a staggering 800,000 suicides every year. Now, take into consideration the families, friends, and loved one s who suffer the devastating loss of their loved ones whose death could have certainly been prevented. The harsh reality is mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, husbands and wives take their life every single day. My research question is why are the mentally ill stigmatized? • 33. The Eighteenth Brumaire Of Louis Bonaparte Essay The Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte was written by Karl Marx a few months after the December 1851 coup d etat of Louis Bonaparte in France. In this short text, Marx further examined the revolution of 1848 and the series of political reversals which eventually led to the coup. Marx views the coup as a consequence of sharp intensifications of class antagonisms in modern bourgeois society, which is the central idea of the theory of revolutionary change presented in the Communist Manifesto. Therefore, his analysis in the Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte allows us to understand how his theory bears out in practice. However, in the latter text, Marx also made some adjustments to his theory. He went from a simple, bifurcate model consisting of only a dominating class and a dominated class to a more sophisticated understanding where he identifies the subgroups within the main groups, as well as the roles each of these factions played during the course of the revolution. In this paper, I will explain the revolution theory proposed by Marx and Engels in the Communist Manifesto, and how the theory was applied and adjusted in the Eighteenth Brumaire to make concrete historical sense of the events happened during the years between 1848 to 1851. In The Communist Manifesto, Marx famously claimed that The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggle (Marx, p.219). For Marx, the engine of history is the productive power. In every society, there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
