Animals In Captivity
Should animals live in their natural environment, or should they live in man made environment? Some
people believe animals should live in captivity, but animals that live in the wild get to live more
naturally. They should live in the wild instead of living in captivity, so they are not tampered with by
humans as much. It would keep the environment the way it should be. If you take predators out of an
environment, the environment will be over run with other animals because the other animals
population will not be controlled. Animals should live in the wild and not in captivity. Animals should
live in the wild including endangered animals, instead of captivity. Some people believe animals
should be taken care of in captivity because it is to dangerous for them in the wild. Animals do not
truly belong in a cage. It is not fair for the animal to live in captivity because the animal would not be
able to roam freely like it could if it lived in the wild. If an animal can not make it in the wild, it needs
to either adapt to the wild or die which is a way of the population controlling itself. Animals are meant
to live in the wild. Once you put a animal in captivity and then decide to release it, the animal will
probably die because it does not know how to hunt for food, and will not be able to defend itself
against other animals. If animals do not have enough room to roam around, they can become sick and
depressed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some animals will die faster in captivity than in the wild because of changes in the environment. The
natural food chain in the wild will get messed up because there might not be enough predators or prey.
It is not fair to the other animals because they may loose their food sources. They will not maintain
their normal diet, and will lose a bunch of strength because of a different diet and not enough

The Formation of Hurricanes Essay
The Formation of Hurricanes
Hurricanes begin as tropical storms over the warm moist waters of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans
near the equator. (Near the Philippines and the China Sea, hurricanes are called typhoons.) As the
moisture evaporates it rises until enormous amounts of heated moist air are twisted high in the
atmosphere. The winds begin to circle counterclockwise north of the equator or clockwise south of the
equator. The relatively peaceful center of the hurricane is called the eye. Around this center winds
move at speeds between 74 and 200 miles per hour. As long as the hurricane remains over waters of
79F or warmer, it continues to pull moisture from the surface and grow in size ... Show more content

death toll at least 25 in Ivan s wake
We only have basic knowledge of general hurricane occurrence there are no atmospheric conditions
that can be measured to predict where a hurricane will develop. Therefore we can only forecast its
path when it s formed. The National Hurricane Center in Miami, searches for potential hurricanes in
their early stages and track them through their life cycle until they decay and die.
Satellites detect hurricanes in their early stages of development and can help to provide early warnings
of hurricanes. Special aircrafts fitted with instruments fly through and over hurricanes, and weather
radar can locate storms within 200 miles of the radar station.
Hurricane Ivan
Hurricane Ivan continues to make the headlines. It is not classified as a hurricane anymore, and its
remains are now classified as a weak tropical depression. The last of Ivan has now moved away from
the mid Atlantic coast but before it did so it managed to produce large amounts of rain over vast

Analyzing Mary Anning s Childhood
When one thinks of important scientific figures hailing from Europe, people such as Galileo Galilei,
Isaac Newton, or Marie Curie are the first to come to mind. Few are familiar with Mary Anning.
Although an obscure figure, Anning was one of the most significant contributors to paleontology,
known by some as the greatest fossilist the world ever knew (Torrens 257). Born on May 21, 1799,
Mary Anning was born in the town of Lyme Regis, located in England. Her father, Richard Anning, a
carpenter, and her mother, Mary Moore, had a total of nine children. Among the nine, only Mary and
Joseph Anning reached adulthood; the rest had passed away while they were children (Famous People
Mary Anning). Mary Anning is known to have had unique experiences as a child. At the age of one, a
woman holding Anning was struck by lightning and killed, along with two others. Anning was
rendered unconscious, but was brought back after a warm bath. After this event, it is documented that
the formerly dull and sickly Anning showed higher signs of intelligence, and was livelier (Dickens).
Although it is difficult to say whether or not this event truly affected her intelligence because of her
age as to when it happened, it is a remarkable story, nonetheless. As Mary went through her childhood,
she developed a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The area where Anning lived, Lyme Regis, was an outstanding place for fossil hunting. Approximately
200 million years ago, the area was located the equator, underneath the ocean. The reason the fossils
are so abundant now is because marine animals, after dying, would sink to the bottom of the ocean
and would be buried in mud, resulting in preservation. To this day, Lyme Regis is full of fossils, and
now, amateurs are permitted to fossils along the beach. If they obtain a permit, they are also allowed to

Health And Safety Of Canada And Bangladesh
Introduction
The second cross cultural ethical issue discussed in this paper is workplace health and safety. Having
occupational health and safety laws in place ensures a safe environment for employees, the public, and
stakeholders. The organization as a whole becomes more productive, creative, and happy. Many
countries have in place laws and regulations to ensure that the workforce is protected, however, there
are still several other countries who lack these necessary laws. Canada and Bangladesh will be used to
further discuss this issues.
In Bangladesh, the occupational health and safety services are still in its developing stage. They do not
have any formal organizations such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in
the United States, which provides different standards for various working environments. Most of the
industries and manufacturing workers are covered by the Factory Act (1965) and the Factory rule
(1979). However, these laws are very general and don t apply to every workforce. As a result, many
employers are responsible for their own health and safety needs. (Occupational Safety and Health in
Bangladesh, n.d).
In Canada, there are fourteen jurisdictions who each have their own occupational health and safety
legislations; one federal, ten provincial, and three territorials. Under the Canada Labour Code,
employees have the right to be informed on training, potential hazards, and be provided with
necessary supervision. This code also

The Impact Of Budget Cuts On Educational Institutions And...
A society s culture is built through time and consists of many variables that can depend on many
different factors. For a person to understand the relativism of other cultures they must open their mind
and try to see from another perspective. Through this assignment I will put my shift my mind to an
outsider s etic view to enable me to examine my own culture. Furthermore, I will jump on the side of
an insider to gain the emic perspective of a culture as if I have lived in it. In this paper I will
specifically examine my own cultures educational crisis from an outsider s perspective to understand
where the failures are in our education. I will then dive into an insider s perspective to the act and

Different American educational policies and practices can be determined by multiple factors such as
demographic considerations, budget concerns, economic impact and cultural values Shapiro (2013).
American higher education is described by Engell and Dangerfield (2005) as The fastest expanding
and often strongest motivation in American higher education is now money (as quoted in Bean, 2007,
page 240). For instance, budget cuts have been administered nearly all over the country but how does
it affect the institutions within that state. When states are unable to provide aid to school districts due
to budget cuts in our economy it in turn takes away needed courses that educate students that can be
an economic contributor later in life, Carter (2011). The United States Census Bureau (2013)
conducted a statistical analysis which analyzed the debt for each states school system finances, and the
analysis showed the annual debt for the state of Alabama school system was $5 million dollars by the
end of the fiscal school year. This will continue to increase with budget cuts increasing every year for
education across the United States and will be detrimental to the educational abilities of the school
districts to perform at a high level. According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, cuts to
educational funding will

Figure 15 show the first tab populated by two channels. Figure 16 shows a separate tab populated by
one separate channel.
The second option was chosen for several reasons. Having only one chart control makes the program a
good deal easier to follow for someone editing. It is also found to take less processing power to redraw
the same chart as opposed to having many run at the same time.
The channels are saved in each tab item but these channels are needed in the SamRunJobCtrl . The
channels are processed in that control and are used only there to create the data in the chart. In
SamRunJobCtrl the channels are written as _listVisChannels. These _listVisChannels need to be
updated every time. This is necessary to have two separate lists getting passed back and forth because
the _listVisChannels are updated when one of the pre defined buttons Add , Remove or Remove All
are called. Essentially when the user add or removed a channel, the SamRunJobCtrl informs the
TabChartCtrl of the change so that it can save the new channel. When the tab is changed, the
TabChartCtrl searched what channels are associated with the selected tab and passes it to the
SamRunJobCtrl so that it can write the _listVisChannels to the chart. This process is demonstrated by

ED 430
Civics Lesson Plan
Elementary Social Studies Methods Summary:
Students will learn about their community s government and leaders. Throughout the lesson, students
will engage in discussions and be visited by an elected local government official. Students will also
conduct their own research to learn more about their local government. Learning Context:
This lesson is designed for third grade and fits in with our community, as our government officials are
part of our local community.
This lesson may require extra time, as our town of Beacon Falls does not have a mayor, which I think
the students would be more familiar with. Instead, the town has a Board of Selectmen. Objectives:
Students will understand how our local government is run.
CCSS CIV 3.1 Students will be able to distinguish the responsibilities and powers of government
officials at various levels and branches of government and in different times and places Rationale:
It is important for students to understand their role as a citizen of the United States. By looking at their
local community, students will be more engaged in learning about how they fit into their local
democracy.
My long term goal is for students to not only know what roles different leaders play in a democracy,
but for them to understand how they can effect change. This introductory lesson will get this process
started and will allow the class to brainstorm effective ways to create change.

How Did Socrates Corrupt Men
Of the three major charges brought against Socrates, corrupting the minds of young men is the most
plausible (Plato, Apology 24c). Both the prosecution and defense had concrete arguments, however,
the arguments put forth by Socrates are simply superior. While at first glance it would appear as
though Socrates is guilty, however, if one looks through his defense following the understanding of
the charges it becomes quite clear that Socrates did not corrupt the minds of young men. Before
approaching Socrates defense, it must be understood that he had no issue angering people by speaking
what he believed to be true. This is seen when he mocked the jurors and most certainly disdained
those that attempted to pander to the emotions of the jurors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The law only serves to punish those that willfully did wrong and that those do not should only be
educated in what is right. In his first defense Socrates claims that It cannot be possible for one to
willingly corrupt his followers for it would eventually be equivalent to bringing harm onto oneself and
no man seeks out self harm. Once Socrates established that he was not willingly corrupting the young,
it becomes evident that either Socrates is not corrupting the young or that he is not intentionally
corrupting them, both cases would make Socrates innocent in the eyes of the law (Plato, Apology 25d
26a). Although this argument presented by Socrates is sufficient, the defense that Xenophon claims
that Socrates presented sheds light on a difference line of reasoning and attitude that Socrates
possessed during the trial. Socrates knew that men of virtue were inclined to follow him, he notes to
Meletus Doesn t the fact that many of my fellow citizens who aspire to virtue, and many foreigners as
well, choose to associate with me over anyone else strike you as further proof that my efforts haven t
been in vain? (Xenophon, Apology 17). By noting that individuals that strive for virtue associate with
him then conversely Socrates and his teachings must also be virtuous. If Socrates teaching are
virtuous, as it has become apparent, then he cannot be corrupting the minds of young men. It is
important to note that when Socrates made his first defense he willingly portrays himself in a humble
light. While in his second defense he elevates himself to a position of moral superiority by claiming
his virtue. However, regardless of how Socrates approached his defense, after reviewing both sides it
becomes clear that the correct decisions would be to acquit

Acetaminophen Theory
Description of Disease and Underlying theory
Acetaminophen, once ingested into the body is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract into the
blood stream where it reaches peak plasma concentration in as little as half an hour. Here, it circulates
around the body for a period of up to 4 hours during which it produces its analgesic and antipyretic
effects before the acetaminophen is metabolised and deactivated by the liver by a possible 3 pathways:
Glucuronidation, sulfation and oxidation (Show below in Figure 2). The most commonly used
pathway is the glucuronidation metabolism, closely followed by the sulfation pathway. These methods
of metabolism deactivate the acetaminophen in the hepatocytes into non toxic conjugated sulphate and
glucuronide which are excreted in the urine [23] [24]. The majority of the initially ingested therapeutic
dosage is metabolised this way, with the remaining acetaminophen being metabolised via the third
hepatic cytochrome P45 oxidase pathway, primarily by the enzyme CYP2E1 [25]. When
acetaminophen is metabolised via this method, a small amount of a highly reactive toxic intermediate

The National Health Service Within The United Kingdom
Introduction to the Organisation The National Health Service within the United Kingdom refers to the
publically funded body with a variety of healthcare related statutory responsibilities. This covers
numerous individual services around the country, all of which must be able to provide a level of
service both emergency and non emergency to the public. The NHS was formed in 1948 after a series
of public welfare reforms, and has evolved into the multi billion pound organisation that millions of
individuals rely upon today. As an organisation within the public sector, the performance of the NHS
is often heavily scrutinised by the media and general public, as the body is funded by taxpayer s
money. The services offered by the organisation are also of extreme importance in regards to public
health, and as such, it is crucial that such an organisation has an effective business continuity plan in
order to maintain these services to the highest possible level in front of unexpected disasters or
failures. Legal Duties There are a number of legal responsibilities placed upon the NHS in regards to
business continuity and unexpected events. The Civil Contingencies Act 2004 places a legal
requirement on all Category 1 Responders to have Business Continuity Plans in place to ensure that
the emergency element of the service can still be run to an acceptable level regardless of disruption.

The Similarities Between John Sloan And John Constable
John Constable was born the in year 1776, in Suffolk, England, and was raised in the English
countryside, which greatly influenced his later career as an artist. Almost one hundred years later, the
artist John Sloan was born in 1871, in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. His subsequent upbringing in the
city of Philadelphia significantly shaped his later career, in a similar fashion to Constable. Both were
brought up, not necessarily aspiring to be artists, but each found his passion for painting later in life.
Despite having little formal training, they each went on to become one of the most noted artists of
their times, each developing a fairly distinct style from the very beginnings their careers.
From the start, Constable was more disposed toward landscape painting, mostly scenes of his family s
properties that he had grown up on. Sloan, however, was more disposed to painting scenes he saw in
the city, usually involving people from many different walks of life. Even so, a great deal of affinity

The most prominent of these is the differences in composition between them. Constable uses a lower
perspective that is close to the ground in contrast to Sloan s bird s eye view. Constable s perspective
causes the viewer to feel like they are on the same level as the scene he s depicting, while Sloan s
angle causes the viewer to feel as if they are floating somewhere above, looking down on the scene.
Sloan s painting also has a lot more focus on the buildings in his picture; they are right in the
foreground, and they block out most of the view of the sky. The difference of focus can be seen as one
observes and compares that to the more prominent natural components in Constable s piece. The
buildings in his painting are more in the background and don t take up very much space in the picture
compared to the sky, grass, water, and trees surrounding

The Scientific Management And Human Relations
Organisational behaviour is influenced by two main theories, scientific management and human
relations. The scientific management approach developed by Frederick Winslow Taylor is one of the
earliest ideological approaches which attempted to explain a management process scientifically. The
main goal was to find the techniques to improve production efficiency of workers scientifically. On
the contrary, human relations studied by Elton Mayo studied the social interactions within a working
environment. Through his studies, he found that social relationships motivates workers at their
workplaces (Daft Samson 2014; Miller Form, 1964).Based on the two approaches, this paper looks
into the assumptions made on workers; the path managers should take to maximise the efficiency of
workers and lastly, my choice between these two approaches as a worker.
Scientific management assumes the economic man concept where a worker acts rationally to protect
their own interests. In this case, the workers interest lies in money. Therefore, the worker does what is
asked of them for a better wage. For example, Schimdt did as instructed for a pay of $1.85 per hour
which is higher than the average of $1.15 per hour. By following the instructions given, he managed to
load 47 tons a day instead of the average of 12 and a half tons (Miller Form 1964). This signifies that
by following instructions, the efficiency of a worker will increase as long as they are rewarded highly.
Using the economic

Summary Of The Construction Of Ghetto
In the article The Construction of the Ghetto by Massey and Denton, there are several policies and
practices that still has its effect on racial structure today. Among the several practices and policies are
the Government Issue (GI) Bill for veterans and housing loans. At a political view, the GI Bill for
veterans helped them buy houses at a lower price due to their contribution in the war. Since White
veterans have the GI Bill, they moved out to the suburbs during 1940 1970, which was during the time
of suburbanization. Because Black veterans did not receive the GI Bill, they were unable to move out
and buy houses. This effect is still present today, considering that in the statistics, Blacks are less
likely than Whites to own houses.

The notion of magic is explored throughout the novel. This is shown early in the book when Polly

Virtue Ethics And Prostitution In The United States
Pornography is a sin that has catastrophic in its effect on the state of men and women in the United
States. In 2016 alone, more than 4,599,000,000 hours of porn were consumed on the world s largest
porn site (Lazzaro, 2017). This statistic is shocking, in that, one year only has 8760 hours in it for one
individual. That means that these hours would make up 5,246 centuries of time spent watching
pornography in one year. These numbers are astronomical, and porn continues to create billions of
dollars in revenue with some numbers estimating that in 2016 the porn industry as a whole took in 97
billion dollars worldwide (Fredrickson 2007). But why is pornography bad? Clearly there is a large
market for it that is being met, but why is this a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is defined as A right act is the action a virtuous person would do in the same circumstances
(citation). In other words, what would Jesus, or some other person acting morally, do given a similar
situation. Virtue ethics is much more concerned with the perfection of the individual and working to
get people to act their most moral. Using the normative ethical system specified in your selection,
provide detailed argumentation to support the position ( for or against ) in your selection regarding the
moral issue. While you may want to incorporate empirical data as part of your arguments, do not do so
excessively. Virtue ethics would be staunchly opposed to the problem of pornography. Pornography is
an outgrowth of a very normal human necessity to procreate, but it becomes hijacked and creates an
unhealthy amount of lust in an individual. Also, given the awful conditions and experiences that so
many of the actors suffer when creating the product, its immense evil becomes a clear moral problem.
It is a problem though, that must be dealt with on an individual level, as the statistics show, there is an
immense market for this material, and the only way to really fight this kind of evil, is for the
individual who is currently on porn, to get off of it. Then work to help others get off and stay off in
their community. Otherwise, there is really not going to be one easy way to stop this epidemic in
America. Virtue ethics is also the perfect system to help fight this problem because Virtue ethics sees
the role of moral theory as being concerned with strategies for perfecting human nature and for
helping individuals become well developed human beings (Stewart, Blocker, Petrik 2013). With all of

The Decline of Classical Hollywood Films
Introduction
The decline of Classical Hollywood films came after the Hollywood Antitrust Case of 1948 as
television audiences dwindled in the wave of television popularity and accessibility and the taste and
interests of viewers which in turn ended the monopoly of Hollywood Studios. To combat this
Hollywood Studios turned it s back on the origins of its creation and headed in a new direction. An era
of film school educated, liberal filmmakers began in Hollywood where the directors of the films began
to express their personal view and creative insights. These directors and new age film makers were
heavily influence by the work of the Italian Neo Realism and French New Wave this saw American
film change drastically from its previous eras of filming techniques and saw a whole new era take
over. Many changes happened following the 1948 lawsuit. Which saw the structure of American
cinema completely change and brought a new era which defined the production of films and had a
huge influence on the progression of film. With this, along with the influence of Italian neo realism
and the French new wave, American Cinema grew and grew from Classical styles to against the grain
alternative movies which then flourished into the blockbuster industry those born in the 80 s and 90 s
grew up with.
Main Body
The American antitrust case of 1948 was a lawsuit between the Supreme court and the 7 main film
houses in Hollywood at the time. These were Paramount, Universal, MGM, Twentieth

Executive Summary
Improvements in health care and life sciences are an important source of gains in health and longevity
globally. The development of innovative pharmaceutical products plays a critical role in ensuring
these continued gains. To encourage the continued development of new drugs, economic incentives
are essential. These incentives are principally provided through direct and indirect government
funding, intellectual property laws, and other policies that favor innovation. Without such incentives,
private corporations, which bring to market the vast majority of new drugs, would be less able to
assume the risks and costs necessary to continue their research and development (R D). In the United
States, government action has focused on creating the environment that would best encourage further
innovation and yield a constant flow of new and innovative medicines to the market. The goal has
been to ensure that consumers would benefit both from technological breakthroughs and the
competition that further innovation generates. The United States also relies on a strong generic
pharmaceutical industry to create added competitive pressure to lower drug prices. Recent action by
the Administration and Congress has accelerated the flow of generic medicines to the market for
precisely that reason. By contrast, in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and

The Sociology Of Tourism
Sociology can be defined as being Concerned with explaining or understanding social behaviour,
particularly of groups or classes of people (Veal, 2006, p.22)
The sociology of tourism is an emergent specialty concerned with the study of touristic motivations,
roles, relationships, and institutions and of their impact on tourists and on the societies who receive
them. (Cohen, 1984).
There are many different elements of tourism on which sociology can shed some light such as the
individual, gender, class, development and social change.
Sociology of Tourism is the study of human social behaviour, especially the study of the origins,
organisation, institutions, and development of human society as it pertains to tourism. The scientific
study of tourism originated in Europe, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Urry distinguished two principal varieties of the tourist gaze, the romantic and the collective , to
which he and others on the mutual gaze and later added several more.
The conceptual and theoretical developments in the field, beyond the discourses of authenticity and
the tourist gaze, are closely related to a broader meta theoretical re orientation in contemporary
sociology, which in turn mirrors some of the extensive late modern social trends.
The Principal Issue Areas in the Sociology of Tourism
Sociological research on tourism falls naturally into four principal issues areas: the tourist, relations
between tourists and locals, the structure and functioning of the tourist system, and the consequences
of tourism. (Cohen, 1994)
Tourism in a free market economy can exploit natural resources as a means of a profit accumulation,
and therefore has been described as the commercialisation of the human need to travel. The notion of
unlimited gain has led to exploitation of host communities, their cultures, and environments. (Walker,
2011)

Analysis Of This Boy s Life By Tobias Wolff
This Boy s Life by Tobias Wolff is a raw examination of what happens to a young boy who is left to
steer life by himself. The grownups in Toby s life are too engaged with their own lives to pay attention
to him. His mother is self centered and irresponsible and never really says that she wants Toby around.
His rich father lives with his other son on the east coast and doesn t want any relationship with Toby.
This results in toby not wanting to make healthy connections with many people that can have a
positive effect on his life. Toby is left to do everything for himself, which has a bad impact on his
personal growth. His mother moves from city to city, whenever she thinks that things aren t going her

The Consequences And Effects Of Safe Driving Saves Lives

Safe Driving Saves Lives
Safe driving seems to be very hard for us now. There so many accidents now due to the lack of us
being careful and not following the rules. We may think what we are doing isn t bad, or we haven t
been caught yet, so we must be good at it. The reality is that we need to think twice about these things
before something happens that can change our life or the life of someone else entirely. We may think
we can control the situation, but in reality, things can happen so fast that we wouldn t even be able to
react to them. The main reasons that cause fatalities and crashes are, driving under the influence,
speeding, texting while driving, and not wearing a seatbelt while driving. It doesn t matter how long
we have done it or if we haven t been caught, when it does happen it can be a very bad outcome and
can happen in a split second. I personally feel that these things have really become a major factor and
find it incumbent that something should be done to stop them from happening.
An article I read titled, Can Automation and Tougher Laws Save Lives? by Ellen Kennerly talks about
some of the causes of fatalities and crashes we tend to have so much of now. Kennerly states, Nearly
half of the 2015 fatalities involved an unbelted passenger or driver and about one third were alcohol
related. Wow, that is a big number. This quote clearly shows us that wearing our seatbelt can save us

There is a current 22 year old pop princess that hasn t been involved in the music industry for long
that is making headlines every time she opens her mouth to sing. With a 4 octave range and a smooth
whistle register, that s not so hard to do. She started out as an actress for a popular Nickelodeon
Television show and somehow made her way to a Mariah Carey sound a like over night. Who would
ve known that just by creating cover songs and some of her own music that she would soon after

This show lasted for four seasons before it was canceled. That show may have been finished, but the
character that she played was not. Grande starred in a spin off of Victorious called Sam Cat which
lasted only one season before ending in 2014. Grande has really made a name for herself in less than
two years. She signed a recording contract with a Major Record Deal, Republic Records, and is under
Scooter Braun Management (known for working with Justin Bieber, Tori Kelly and The Black Eyed
Peas.) Some argue over which is better: Major or Indie Label. Some artists refuse to sign with a major
record label because they want to do their music their own way and on their own terms and without
the restrictions that come with working with a major label. Personally, I think that people signed to a
Major Record Label have more access to larger resources and people with more experience working in
the music industry and with that comes more success (because I m sure you have heard of all the
people that I mentioned that belong to that label.) Before becoming a music star, Grande just like
every other artist drew inspiration from other female vocalists. Ariana Grande has said she looked up
to Imogen Heap, India Arie, Judy Garland, Brandy, but most importantly, Whitney Houston. She has
said Whitney holds such a special place in my heart. She inspired me to start singing as a little girl. I

The Inevitability Of Reality, By Edvard Munch
The Inevitability of Reality
Oscar Wilde once said, Society exists only as a mental concept; in the real world there are only
individuals. This quote explains that society is corrupt. People will only surround you when you are in
the spotlight, but will depart when you hit rock bottom. The painting The Dance of Life, by Edvard
Munch, portrays a life from beginning to completion. It is visible that the same woman is cloned, from
a happier stage of life, to a dark, gloomy end. The Swimmer, by John Cheever, relates to this idea of
the different experiences throughout the course of one s life. The story is about Neddy, who decides to
go home by swimming through the Lucinda River. As a reader, we can see that the story takes place
over a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first, Neddy is at the Westerhazy s pool, where he decides that he is going to go on his journey and
names the length of pools, The Lucina River . At this point, Neddy is very happy, and appears very
young and healthy. He still has his high reputation and friends that he thinks he can rely on. Later on,
Neddy arrived at Enid Bunker s house to go through her pool. When he arrived, Ms. Bunker screams,
Oh, look who s here! What a marvelous surprise! When Lucinda said that you couldn t come I thought
I d die. (3) This shows us the peak of Neddy s reputation. Everyone wanted him to be at their party to
make it seem as if it was worth coming to, since it was good enough for Neddy to join. Cheever
continues the initial exchange saying, She made her way to him through the crowd, and when they had
finished kissing she led him to the bar, a progress that was slowed by the fact that he stopped to kiss
eight or ten other women and shake the hands of as many men. (3) This shows that Neddy is viewed
on high standards and why Mrs. Bunker was so happy that he had shown up to her party. Neddy
finishes his drink and then leaves to move on to the next pool.
When Neddy arrives at the Levy s house, no one is home and he cannot seem to remember whether or
not they sold the house. Neddy swims through the pool and helps

Jackie O Working Girl And The Despair Of Jackie Kennedy
November 22, 1963. This is the date that Jacqueline (Jackie) Kennedy Onassis forever lost her
husband, John F. Kennedy (JFK). After this tragedy, also remarrying and losing that husband as well,
Jackie found fulfillment in becoming a book editor shown in Jackie O, Working Girl (Lawrence). Not
only does Jackie O, Working Girl shows how Jackie became a book editor, it also tells women
working is not a bad thing. On the other hand, The Despair of Jackie Kennedy delves deep into the
details of her mourning over the death of her husband. Other than these two articles talking about
Jackie Kennedy, the only other similarity these articles share is they both use some of the same
rhetorical strategies: purpose, tone, and audience selection. Although their methods in using purpose,
tone, and guiding an audience however is completely different. To begin, the purpose of the articles
Jackie O, Working Girl and The Despair of Jackie Kennedy is considerably contrary. The purpose of
Jackie O, Working Girl is not only to tell about how Jackie became a book editor, it also shows
women that it is okay to work even when they do not need to. Jackie became a book editor not
because she needed the money, but because it was something for her to do (Lawrence). Jackie
described in an interview why she chose to work. Lawrence wrote that Jackie said, what has been sad
for many women of my generation is that they weren t supposed to work if they had families. There
they were, with the highest education, and what were they to do when the children were grown watch
the raindrops coming down the window pane? Leave their fine minds unexercised? Of course, women
should work if they want to. You have to do something you enjoy. Women may not need to work, but
what else is there to do when everything has already been finished? The purpose of The Despair of
Jackie Kennedy is to inform people of the true events on how Jackie dealt with her husband s
assassination, and the toll it took on her. Jackie couldn t stop obsessing over how she could have
prevented JFK s assassination. She would run the scenarios over and over again in her head if only she
recognized the sound of the first gunshot, if only she pulled him down into the car,

The 2016 Presidential Election, Hillary Clinton And Donald...
In United States politics, voters are frequently placed into smaller groups or cohorts based on their
social, economic, and even political views. The general public, pollsters, and even candidates will
assume that these groups or cohorts will vote similarly, regardless of the type or magnitude of

specifically targeted and campaigned towards some of these groups of voters in an effort to try and
win the presidency. Among these targeted groups were independent/third party voters, women,

In other words, these voters lean one way or the other, but would rather identify with a candidate that
has the same political ideologies that they have rather than an entire party s stance on the plethora of
social issues.
There are five primary types of independents, the Disengaged , the Disguised Partisan , the
Deliberator , the Disillusioned , and the Dislocated . The Disengaged are individuals who are just not
politically inclined. This group is very unlikely to vote even though they are often registered. The
Disguised Partisans are people who are independent in name only , as they claim to be either
independent or members of third parties but follow partisan lines. This group is sometimes considered
to be undercover independents. The Deliberators are model citizens, and are open to both parties.
Bipartisanship is important to the Deliberators , they tend to vote for candidates and not for a specific
party. The Disillusioned are a group of people who are angry at the current state of political affairs.
Finally, the Dislocated are also truly a group of independents because they do not really fit into either
party. The Dislocated are socially liberal but fiscally conservative. While it may seem as if voters
choose to become members of third parties or independent for reasons due to their disdain for both of
the parties, this may not be completely valid. Most

Moreover, as a result of cooperation with these groups, Hydro One chose to financially support 23

The offset project works through quantifying the relevant habitat loss due to the reinforcement

the no net habitat loss in each local watershed area. Moreover, besides the sole quantification of
habitat changes, the social factors also have been taken into the consideration of habitat loss and gain
assessment. The social factors include the related changes in local educational opportunities, First

the requirement of no net loss, but also made a net gain to habitat via this offset project.

The cost is another essential factor in consideration of project application. Hydro one costed 16

A Brief Note On Chad Cameroon Petroleum Development And...
In 2003, construction ended on a pipeline project more commonly referred to as the CCPP (Chad
Cameroon Petroleum Development and Pipeline Project). The main actors in this project besides the
World Bank consisted of a triumvirate of oil companies with Exxon Mobil at the helm, along with
Petronas Malaysia ChevronTexaco. The project was under many watchful eyes in the global political
theater as it hoped to prove as a model for other developing countries. It also sought to break the spell
of the resource curse which it is generally known, is that countries rich in natural resources, specially
oil, tend to suffer from lower living standards, slower growth rates and higher incidence of conflict
than their resource poor counterparts. (Auty, 1997)
The project entailed constructing a pipeline which would begin in the Doba basin in Chad which was
said to contain in excess of 1 billion barrels of oil and stretch southwest through to the Cameroonian
port city of Kribi. This pipeline measures an impressive 1,070 kilometers and had an initial price tag
of $3.5 billion; which was later then confirmed by Exxon Mobil to, in fact, cost $4.2 billion.
Unsurprisingly, the main reward from these barrels of black gold would be a monetary reward for all
the parties involved. For Chad, the revenues were estimated to be $5 billion over the course of 25
years and this didn t consider other potential oil fields. The World Bank attempted to ensure that any

The effect of food source (mung bean Vigna radiata vs. black eyed pea Vigna unguiculata) on relative

Background and Hypotheses:
Recent studies, most notably Gbaye et al. (2011, 2012), have investigated the sensitivity of bean
beetles in the genus Callosobruchus to organophosphate insecticides (OPs). Economically this is
important work given that these beetles are pests that threaten agricultural yields of legumes. OPs
work by inhibiting the enzyme acetylcholinerase (AChE) in the beetles. Without this enzyme, the
neurotransmitter acetylcholine can t be broken down and its overflow leads to the eventual death of

Once we collected the data on the 15 individual beetles, we found the sample mean relative inhibitions
per experimental group and their respective sample standard deviations. We then used a two tailed t
test analysis to determine if the difference in means is statistically significant. Our experimental
prediction: if we perform the colorimetric enzyme assay (described on pp. 73 76 of the Course
Supplement) on two groups of beatles one cultured on mung beans and one cultured on black eye peas
we will observe a statistical difference in the respective relative inhibitions.
Results and Data Analysis:
Beetles bred on mung beans exhibited a mean relative inhibition of 35.32% with a sample standard
deviation of 26.41%. Beetles bred on black eyed peas exhibited a mean relative inhibition of 35.42%
with a sample standard deviation of 17.97%. This data is reflected in the bar graph in Figure 1 below.
The large bars show the respective means and the error bars show a range of one standard deviation
about the mean.
A two tailed t test yields a t value of 0.99. For 13 degrees of freedom, t critical is 2.16 for a 95%
confidence level and 1.35 for an 80% confidence level. This is reflected in Table 1 below.

Cesario when he comes to woo her for Orsino. As stated, the play does have a happy ending. Those

  • 2. Animals In Captivity Should animals live in their natural environment, or should they live in man made environment? Some people believe animals should live in captivity, but animals that live in the wild get to live more naturally. They should live in the wild instead of living in captivity, so they are not tampered with by humans as much. It would keep the environment the way it should be. If you take predators out of an environment, the environment will be over run with other animals because the other animals population will not be controlled. Animals should live in the wild and not in captivity. Animals should live in the wild including endangered animals, instead of captivity. Some people believe animals should be taken care of in captivity because it is to dangerous for them in the wild. Animals do not truly belong in a cage. It is not fair for the animal to live in captivity because the animal would not be able to roam freely like it could if it lived in the wild. If an animal can not make it in the wild, it needs to either adapt to the wild or die which is a way of the population controlling itself. Animals are meant to live in the wild. Once you put a animal in captivity and then decide to release it, the animal will probably die because it does not know how to hunt for food, and will not be able to defend itself against other animals. If animals do not have enough room to roam around, they can become sick and depressed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some animals will die faster in captivity than in the wild because of changes in the environment. The natural food chain in the wild will get messed up because there might not be enough predators or prey. It is not fair to the other animals because they may loose their food sources. They will not maintain their normal diet, and will lose a bunch of strength because of a different diet and not enough ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Formation of Hurricanes Essay The Formation of Hurricanes Hurricanes begin as tropical storms over the warm moist waters of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans near the equator. (Near the Philippines and the China Sea, hurricanes are called typhoons.) As the moisture evaporates it rises until enormous amounts of heated moist air are twisted high in the atmosphere. The winds begin to circle counterclockwise north of the equator or clockwise south of the equator. The relatively peaceful center of the hurricane is called the eye. Around this center winds move at speeds between 74 and 200 miles per hour. As long as the hurricane remains over waters of 79F or warmer, it continues to pull moisture from the surface and grow in size ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... death toll at least 25 in Ivan s wake We only have basic knowledge of general hurricane occurrence there are no atmospheric conditions that can be measured to predict where a hurricane will develop. Therefore we can only forecast its path when it s formed. The National Hurricane Center in Miami, searches for potential hurricanes in their early stages and track them through their life cycle until they decay and die. Satellites detect hurricanes in their early stages of development and can help to provide early warnings of hurricanes. Special aircrafts fitted with instruments fly through and over hurricanes, and weather radar can locate storms within 200 miles of the radar station. Hurricane Ivan Hurricane Ivan continues to make the headlines. It is not classified as a hurricane anymore, and its remains are now classified as a weak tropical depression. • 4. Analyzing Mary Anning s Childhood When one thinks of important scientific figures hailing from Europe, people such as Galileo Galilei, Isaac Newton, or Marie Curie are the first to come to mind. Few are familiar with Mary Anning. Although an obscure figure, Anning was one of the most significant contributors to paleontology, known by some as the greatest fossilist the world ever knew (Torrens 257). Born on May 21, 1799, Mary Anning was born in the town of Lyme Regis, located in England. Her father, Richard Anning, a carpenter, and her mother, Mary Moore, had a total of nine children. Among the nine, only Mary and Joseph Anning reached adulthood; the rest had passed away while they were children (Famous People Mary Anning). Mary Anning is known to have had unique experiences as a child. At the age of one, a woman holding Anning was struck by lightning and killed, along with two others. Anning was rendered unconscious, but was brought back after a warm bath. After this event, it is documented that the formerly dull and sickly Anning showed higher signs of intelligence, and was livelier (Dickens). Although it is difficult to say whether or not this event truly affected her intelligence because of her age as to when it happened, it is a remarkable story, nonetheless. As Mary went through her childhood, she developed a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The area where Anning lived, Lyme Regis, was an outstanding place for fossil hunting. Approximately 200 million years ago, the area was located the equator, underneath the ocean. The reason the fossils are so abundant now is because marine animals, after dying, would sink to the bottom of the ocean and would be buried in mud, resulting in preservation. To this day, Lyme Regis is full of fossils, and now, amateurs are permitted to fossils along the beach. If they obtain a permit, they are also allowed to dig along the cliffs ... • 5. Health And Safety Of Canada And Bangladesh Introduction The second cross cultural ethical issue discussed in this paper is workplace health and safety. Having occupational health and safety laws in place ensures a safe environment for employees, the public, and stakeholders. The organization as a whole becomes more productive, creative, and happy. Many countries have in place laws and regulations to ensure that the workforce is protected, however, there are still several other countries who lack these necessary laws. Canada and Bangladesh will be used to further discuss this issues. In Bangladesh, the occupational health and safety services are still in its developing stage. They do not have any formal organizations such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in the United States, which provides different standards for various working environments. Most of the industries and manufacturing workers are covered by the Factory Act (1965) and the Factory rule (1979). However, these laws are very general and don t apply to every workforce. As a result, many employers are responsible for their own health and safety needs. (Occupational Safety and Health in Bangladesh, n.d). In Canada, there are fourteen jurisdictions who each have their own occupational health and safety legislations; one federal, ten provincial, and three territorials. Under the Canada Labour Code, employees have the right to be informed on training, potential hazards, and be provided with necessary supervision. This code also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The channels are saved in each tab item but these channels are needed in the SamRunJobCtrl . The channels are processed in that control and are used only there to create the data in the chart. In SamRunJobCtrl the channels are written as _listVisChannels. These _listVisChannels need to be updated every time. Throughout the lesson, students will engage in discussions and be visited by an elected local government official. Students will also conduct their own research to learn more about their local government. Learning Context: This lesson is designed for third grade and fits in with our community, as our government officials are part of our local community. This lesson may require extra time, as our town of Beacon Falls does not have a mayor, which I think the students would be more familiar with. Instead, the town has a Board of Selectmen. Objectives: Students will understand how our local government is run. CCSS CIV 3.1 Students will be able to distinguish the responsibilities and powers of government officials at various levels and branches of government and in different times and places Rationale: It is important for students to understand their role as a citizen of the United States. By looking at their local community, students will be more engaged in learning about how they fit into their local democracy. My long term goal is for students to not only know what roles different leaders play in a democracy, but for them to understand how they can effect change. This introductory lesson will get this process started and will allow the class to brainstorm effective ways to create change. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. How Did Socrates Corrupt Men Of the three major charges brought against Socrates, corrupting the minds of young men is the most plausible (Plato, Apology 24c). Both the prosecution and defense had concrete arguments, however, the arguments put forth by Socrates are simply superior. While at first glance it would appear as though Socrates is guilty, however, if one looks through his defense following the understanding of the charges it becomes quite clear that Socrates did not corrupt the minds of young men. Before approaching Socrates defense, it must be understood that he had no issue angering people by speaking what he believed to be true. The law only serves to punish those that willfully did wrong and that those do not should only be educated in what is right. In his first defense Socrates claims that It cannot be possible for one to willingly corrupt his followers for it would eventually be equivalent to bringing harm onto oneself and no man seeks out self harm. Once Socrates established that he was not willingly corrupting the young, it becomes evident that either Socrates is not corrupting the young or that he is not intentionally corrupting them, both cases would make Socrates innocent in the eyes of the law (Plato, Apology 25d 26a). Although this argument presented by Socrates is sufficient, the defense that Xenophon claims that Socrates presented sheds light on a difference line of reasoning and attitude that Socrates possessed during the trial. Socrates knew that men of virtue were inclined to follow him, he notes to Meletus Doesn t the fact that many of my fellow citizens who aspire to virtue, and many foreigners as well, choose to associate with me over anyone else strike you as further proof that my efforts haven t been in vain? (Xenophon, Apology 17). By noting that individuals that strive for virtue associate with him then conversely Socrates and his teachings must also be virtuous. If Socrates teaching are virtuous, as it has become apparent, then he cannot be corrupting the minds of young men. It is important to note that when Socrates made his first defense he willingly portrays himself in a humble light. While in his second defense he elevates himself to a position of moral superiority by claiming his virtue. However, regardless of how Socrates approached his defense, after reviewing both sides it becomes clear that the correct decisions would be to acquit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Acetaminophen Theory Description of Disease and Underlying theory Acetaminophen, once ingested into the body is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract into the blood stream where it reaches peak plasma concentration in as little as half an hour. Here, it circulates around the body for a period of up to 4 hours during which it produces its analgesic and antipyretic effects before the acetaminophen is metabolised and deactivated by the liver by a possible 3 pathways: Glucuronidation, sulfation and oxidation (Show below in Figure 2). The most commonly used pathway is the glucuronidation metabolism, closely followed by the sulfation pathway. These methods of metabolism deactivate the acetaminophen in the hepatocytes into non toxic conjugated sulphate and glucuronide which are excreted in the urine [23] [24]. The majority of the initially ingested therapeutic dosage is metabolised this way, with the remaining acetaminophen being metabolised via the third hepatic cytochrome P45 oxidase pathway, primarily by the enzyme CYP2E1 [25]. The NHS was formed in 1948 after a series of public welfare reforms, and has evolved into the multi billion pound organisation that millions of individuals rely upon today. As an organisation within the public sector, the performance of the NHS is often heavily scrutinised by the media and general public, as the body is funded by taxpayer s money. Almost one hundred years later, the artist John Sloan was born in 1871, in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. His subsequent upbringing in the city of Philadelphia significantly shaped his later career, in a similar fashion to Constable. Both were brought up, not necessarily aspiring to be artists, but each found his passion for painting later in life. Despite having little formal training, they each went on to become one of the most noted artists of their times, each developing a fairly distinct style from the very beginnings their careers. From the start, Constable was more disposed toward landscape painting, mostly scenes of his family s properties that he had grown up on. • 13. The Scientific Management And Human Relations Organisational behaviour is influenced by two main theories, scientific management and human relations. The scientific management approach developed by Frederick Winslow Taylor is one of the earliest ideological approaches which attempted to explain a management process scientifically. The main goal was to find the techniques to improve production efficiency of workers scientifically. On the contrary, human relations studied by Elton Mayo studied the social interactions within a working environment. Through his studies, he found that social relationships motivates workers at their workplaces (Daft Samson 2014; Miller Form, 1964).Based on the two approaches, this paper looks into the assumptions made on workers; the path managers should take to maximise the efficiency of workers and lastly, my choice between these two approaches as a worker. Scientific management assumes the economic man concept where a worker acts rationally to protect their own interests. In this case, the workers interest lies in money. Therefore, the worker does what is asked of them for a better wage. For example, Schimdt did as instructed for a pay of $1.85 per hour which is higher than the average of $1.15 per hour. By following the instructions given, he managed to load 47 tons a day instead of the average of 12 and a half tons (Miller Form 1964). This signifies that by following instructions, the efficiency of a worker will increase as long as they are rewarded highly. Using the economic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pornography is an outgrowth of a very normal human necessity to procreate, but it becomes hijacked and creates an unhealthy amount of lust in an individual. Also, given the awful conditions and experiences that so many of the actors suffer when creating the product, its immense evil becomes a clear moral problem. The development of innovative pharmaceutical products plays a critical role in ensuring these continued gains. To encourage the continued development of new drugs, economic incentives are essential. The reality is that we need to think twice about these things before something happens that can change our life or the life of someone else entirely. • 29. The Inevitability Of Reality, By Edvard Munch The Inevitability of Reality Oscar Wilde once said, Society exists only as a mental concept; in the real world there are only individuals. This quote explains that society is corrupt. People will only surround you when you are in the spotlight, but will depart when you hit rock bottom. The painting The Dance of Life, by Edvard Munch, portrays a life from beginning to completion. It is visible that the same woman is cloned, from a happier stage of life, to a dark, gloomy end. The Swimmer, by John Cheever, relates to this idea of the different experiences throughout the course of one s life. The story is about Neddy, who decides to go home by swimming through the Lucinda River. As a reader, we can see that the story takes place over a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this point, Neddy is very happy, and appears very young and healthy. He still has his high reputation and friends that he thinks he can rely on. Later on, Neddy arrived at Enid Bunker s house to go through her pool. When he arrived, Ms. Bunker screams, Oh, look who s here! What a marvelous surprise! When Lucinda said that you couldn t come I thought I d die. (3) This shows us the peak of Neddy s reputation. Everyone wanted him to be at their party to make it seem as if it was worth coming to, since it was good enough for Neddy to join. Cheever continues the initial exchange saying, She made her way to him through the crowd, and when they had finished kissing she led him to the bar, a progress that was slowed by the fact that he stopped to kiss eight or ten other women and shake the hands of as many men. (3) This shows that Neddy is viewed on high standards and why Mrs. Bunker was so happy that he had shown up to her party. Neddy finishes his drink and then leaves to move on to the next pool. When Neddy arrives at the Levy s house, no one is home and he cannot seem to remember whether or not they sold the house. Neddy swims through the pool and helps ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Jackie O Working Girl And The Despair Of Jackie Kennedy November 22, 1963. This is the date that Jacqueline (Jackie) Kennedy Onassis forever lost her husband, John F. Kennedy (JFK). After this tragedy, also remarrying and losing that husband as well, Jackie found fulfillment in becoming a book editor shown in Jackie O, Working Girl (Lawrence). Not only does Jackie O, Working Girl shows how Jackie became a book editor, it also tells women working is not a bad thing. On the other hand, The Despair of Jackie Kennedy delves deep into the details of her mourning over the death of her husband. Other than these two articles talking about Jackie Kennedy, the only other similarity these articles share is they both use some of the same rhetorical strategies: purpose, tone, and audience selection. Although their methods in using purpose, tone, and guiding an audience however is completely different. To begin, the purpose of the articles Jackie O, Working Girl and The Despair of Jackie Kennedy is considerably contrary. The purpose of Jackie O, Working Girl is not only to tell about how Jackie became a book editor, it also shows women that it is okay to work even when they do not need to. Jackie became a book editor not because she needed the money, but because it was something for her to do (Lawrence). Jackie described in an interview why she chose to work. Lawrence wrote that Jackie said, what has been sad for many women of my generation is that they weren t supposed to work if they had families. There they were, with the highest education, and what were they to do when the children were grown watch the raindrops coming down the window pane? Leave their fine minds unexercised? Of course, women should work if they want to. You have to do something you enjoy. Women may not need to work, but what else is there to do when everything has already been finished? The purpose of The Despair of Jackie Kennedy is to inform people of the true events on how Jackie dealt with her husband s assassination, and the toll it took on her. Jackie couldn t stop obsessing over how she could have prevented JFK s assassination. She would run the scenarios over and over again in her head if only she recognized the sound of the first gunshot, if only she pulled him down into the car, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The 2016 Presidential Election, Hillary Clinton And Donald... In United States politics, voters are frequently placed into smaller groups or cohorts based on their social, economic, and even political views. The general public, pollsters, and even candidates will assume that these groups or cohorts will vote similarly, regardless of the type or magnitude of election. In the 2016 presidential election the two main candidates, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump specifically targeted and campaigned towards some of these groups of voters in an effort to try and win the presidency. Among these targeted groups were independent/third party voters, women, Millennials, African Americans, Hispanics, and evangelical voters. There are five primary types of independents, the Disengaged , the Disguised Partisan , the Deliberator , the Disillusioned , and the Dislocated . The Disengaged are individuals who are just not politically inclined. This group is very unlikely to vote even though they are often registered. The Disguised Partisans are people who are independent in name only , as they claim to be either independent or members of third parties but follow partisan lines. This group is sometimes considered to be undercover independents. The Deliberators are model citizens, and are open to both parties. Bipartisanship is important to the Deliberators , they tend to vote for candidates and not for a specific party. The Disillusioned are a group of people who are angry at the current state of political affairs. Finally, the Dislocated are also truly a group of independents because they do not really fit into either party. The Dislocated are socially liberal but fiscally conservative. While it may seem as if voters choose to become members of third parties or independent for reasons due to their disdain for both of the parties, this may not be completely valid. Most ... Because of the trans regional property of the line construction, the quantifications are used independently in very watershed traversed for achieving the no net habitat loss in each local watershed area. Moreover, besides the sole quantification of habitat changes, the social factors also have been taken into the consideration of habitat loss and gain assessment. • 33. A Brief Note On Chad Cameroon Petroleum Development And... In 2003, construction ended on a pipeline project more commonly referred to as the CCPP (Chad Cameroon Petroleum Development and Pipeline Project). The main actors in this project besides the World Bank consisted of a triumvirate of oil companies with Exxon Mobil at the helm, along with Petronas Malaysia ChevronTexaco. The project was under many watchful eyes in the global political theater as it hoped to prove as a model for other developing countries. It also sought to break the spell of the resource curse which it is generally known, is that countries rich in natural resources, specially oil, tend to suffer from lower living standards, slower growth rates and higher incidence of conflict than their resource poor counterparts. (Auty, 1997) The project entailed constructing a pipeline which would begin in the Doba basin in Chad which was said to contain in excess of 1 billion barrels of oil and stretch southwest through to the Cameroonian port city of Kribi. This pipeline measures an impressive 1,070 kilometers and had an initial price tag of $3.5 billion; which was later then confirmed by Exxon Mobil to, in fact, cost $4.2 billion. Unsurprisingly, the main reward from these barrels of black gold would be a monetary reward for all the parties involved. For Chad, the revenues were estimated to be $5 billion over the course of 25 years and this didn t consider other potential oil fields. The effect of food source (mung bean Vigna radiata vs. black eyed pea Vigna unguiculata) on relative inhibition of acetylcholinerase due to malaoxon in bean beetle Callosobruchus maculatus Background and Hypotheses: Recent studies, most notably Gbaye et al. (2011, 2012), have investigated the sensitivity of bean beetles in the genus Callosobruchus to organophosphate insecticides (OPs). Economically this is important work given that these beetles are pests that threaten agricultural yields of legumes. OPs work by inhibiting the enzyme acetylcholinerase (AChE) in the beetles. Without this enzyme, the neurotransmitter acetylcholine can t be broken down and its overflow leads to the eventual death of the beetle. Results obtained by ... Once we collected the data on the 15 individual beetles, we found the sample mean relative inhibitions per experimental group and their respective sample standard deviations. We then used a two tailed t test analysis to determine if the difference in means is statistically significant. Our experimental prediction: if we perform the colorimetric enzyme assay (described on pp. 73 76 of the Course Supplement) on two groups of beatles one cultured on mung beans and one cultured on black eye peas we will observe a statistical difference in the respective relative inhibitions. Results and Data Analysis: Beetles bred on mung beans exhibited a mean relative inhibition of 35.32% with a sample standard deviation of 26.41%. Beetles bred on black eyed peas exhibited a mean relative inhibition of 35.42% with a sample standard deviation of 17.97%. This data is reflected in the bar graph in Figure 1 below. The large bars show the respective means and the error bars show a range of one standard deviation about the mean. A two tailed t test yields a t value of 0.99. This results into violence in a later scene with her and Orsino because he thinks that Cesario (Viola) is Olivia s lover. Viola does bring pain to Olivia due to her deception because Olivia fell quickly in love with Cesario when he comes to woo her for Orsino. As stated, the play does have a happy ending. Those who were set out pursuing for love got it for the most part. Orsino and Viola ended up together, Olivia and Sebastian (Viola s twin brother) ended up together (partly because she mistakes him for Cesario), and Maria and Sir Toby ended up together. The same could not be said for Malvolio who was in love with Olivia. He was tricked into thinking that Olivia returned the same affections, but in it was all a trick.
