The Financial Sector Is A Crucial Part Of Society s...
The financial sector is a crucial part of society s critical infrastructure. Commerce drives our
daily functions in acquiring necessities as well as desires. The debate for what is a necessity
versus desire is not my point, but the reliance we have on the financial sector in order to function
is. Since the days of bartering have been replaced with a monetary system in addition to
technological advances, we have become as dependent upon the financial system as we are on
oxygen. Accumulation of wealth has always been a driving factor since the financial system s
inception. In the past, bankrobberies were the major concern as such notorious robbers as Jessie
James along with Bonnie and Clyde were infamous for their robbing sprees. However, today s
bank robberies are less likely to be done in the physical nature with advances in technology.
Malware plus Spyware are now the threat to financial securityin personal and commercial capacities.
The financial sector has experienced enormous change over the past few decades. Evaluating the
changes that have transpired over the last 40 years is amazing. Transformation of the industry
began in the 1970 s when the Federal Reserve announced the U.S. dollar was moving away from the
gold standard and has culminated today with the latest technological applications. Henceforth, the
ways financial transactions take place have forever changed (LoМЃpez, Setola, Wolthusen, 2012, p.

Aspirin Therapy For Vascular Disorders
Aspirin Therapy for Vascular Disorders
Physicians across the country agree that daily use of aspirin for prevention of vascular disorders
is controversial (Neale, 2014). Dr. J. Jaques Carter of Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel
Deaconess Medical Center in Boston admits that he used to recommend a daily aspirin to all of his
middle aged adult patients, regardless of vascular disease risk factors being present, as it was
standard procedure at the time (Neale, 2014). Dr. Len Horovitz of Lenox Hill Hospital in New
York City explains that the FDA guidelines regarding routine prescription of aspirin for men and
women over age 55 and 65 respectively have changed as studies have demonstrated the greater risk
of GI bleeding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This paper will explore the benefits and risks of routine use of aspirin therapy in the treatment of
vascular disease and prevention of its concurrent complications. According to Burchum Rosenthal
(2016) five major risk factors for heart disease are age, gender, cholesterol levels, blood pressure,
and smoking status . If you fit this profile, a daily aspirin might be recommended as you are at
high risk for having your first heart attack, may have had a heart attack or stroke in the past and as
long as you do not have a history of bleeding or clotting disorders (Mayo Clinic, 2016). The
benefit of a daily aspirin would be to prevent platelets from sticking together and forming a
blockage where a vessel is damaged due to disease or lifestyle or may be narrowed from fat
deposits or atherosclerosis (Mayo Clinic, 2016). VanWormer et al. (2012) proposed that aspirin
therapy is actually under utilized by high risk patients and over utilized by those at low risk for
cardiovascular disease where the risk of bleeding is greater than the possible benefits. Having
limited data regarding the sociodemographic variables of aspirin use, VanWormer et al. (2012) set
about creating a study to evaluate these variables among adults in Wisconsin without a history of
cardiovascular disease. Using guidelines for aspirin use established by the US Preventive Services

Selecting A Health Care Provider Summary
Chapter One
Selecting a Health Care Provider
At no time should a patient feel uneasy with the treatment they receive, or the overall environment
of the facility they are visiting. All staff should address concerns with a professional approach.
According to Issidoros Sarinopoulos, Ph.D., a professor of radiology at Michigan State University,
Patients should pay attention to how their doctor makes them feel and recognize empathy as a
desirable characteristic in a physician.
A Good Healthcare Provider Does the Following:
Treats all questions and concerns with respect
Responds in a timely manner
Reserves judgement
Asks permission before any testing is performed
Approaches office visits with an unrushed setting
Provides current ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At no time should you feel unable to maintain your own well being due to judgement from medical
providers. Today s medical school graduates have had more training on sexual health than their
more established counterparts, but it is still possible to encounter a doctor who lacks a thorough
approach to patient sexual health.
Chapter 2
Preventative Sexual Health Services
Preventative services include vaccines, screenings for transmitted diseases and infections and
counseling to assist in making health minded decisions. Regardless of one s ability to pay for
preventative services, they have a right to these services through community organizations.
However, not all communities offer comprehensive preventative sexual health services at no cost or
low cost. Research what is available in your area, starting with your local Planned Parenthood
office.
Males should be aware that Planned Parenthood offers reproductive services, general health care,
sexual health services and cancer screenings for men. The company is widely known for their
female sexual health services, but Planned Parenthood also assists males in the following gender
specific areas:
Erectile dysfunction exam, education, treatment and referrals
Male sterilization (vasectomy)
Jock itch exam and treatment

Position Paper On Declaration Of Independence
Position Paper
The Declaration of Independence states all the reasons why the colonies considered themselves
independent from England. Thomas Jefferson didn t believe in the reasons stated in the
Declaration of Independence. He simply used ideas from others to justify it. Jefferson says that all
men are created equal , and because of this they have certain unalienable rights. Thomas Jefferson
didn t think all men were equal. He refers to the Indians as the merciless Indian savages, whose
known rule of warfare is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes, and conditions. From
the way in which he describes them we can assume that he considered them inferior and
uncivilized. He was also a slave owner. A man, who did not believe that Indians and black people
are men couldn t use the idea that all men are created equal.
Jefferson says that among the unalienable rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
These rights were originally John Locke s ideas, with the exception that he believed that property
was an unalienable right. The fact that Jefferson uses the pursuit of happiness instead of property is
proof that he didn t believe in these rights. If he really believed in them he would have mentioned
property. Perhaps the reason why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When somebody is killed their right to life is taken away. The same happens when somebody is
sent to prison, or when someone prevents another person from pursuing their happiness. There is
nothing that can assure that they are unalienable other than the idea that men are born with them.
Thomas Jefferson believes that a tyrant like the king shouldn t be the ruler of free people, but if
they were truly free then they wouldn t need to be ruled by anybody. If these rights are nothing
more than ideas inspired by another man s work how can they be used as a reason for

America s Lack Of Economic Equality
America suffers from a lack of economic equality; the population is divided into social classes. Per
Mantsios, the upper fifteen percent control eighty five percent of the nations wealth. This attributes
the other eighty five percent of the population the remaining fifteen percent of the nations wealth.
The people born into a high economic standing can afford better educationwhich prepares them for
better jobs. And those who are born into a lower economic standing are more expected to enter
low income schools and conditioned for labor jobs. Higher income families, those of the fifteen
percent, are more likely to have children that will obtain a better education. This leaves the other
eighty five percent of the population that make up the lower and middle classto seemingly reduced
education and public schooling which is only available for free up until the twelfth grade. The
population consisting of the lower class, who can t afford higher education, are less likely to
continue to go to college; this only narrows their options for jobs. Those in the upper classwill have
a better education and obtain higher positions in companies than those in the lower class.
Educational development is a very important step in life; it seems that people are judged everyday
especially on their education. Parents seem to go through extensive procedures to get their children
through the best education possible, just to help them succeed in life. It s no surprise that schools

Descriptive Essay Roommate
I went back into my dorm room. I sat my things down on the kitchen table and turned to the fridge,
opening to get a drink of water as I was literally dying of thirst.
Are you my roommate? I jumped and quickly turned around. My roommate s appearance that I
just met now, has a light brown bob cut, rounded glasses with grey eyes, wearing a casual navy
blue dress with a red leather belt. She stood near the table with her boxes and bags and I gave her a
calm look, with a gentle smile.
Oh yes, my name s Elaine. Nice to meet you, and you are?
I m Kira. Sorry I came here a bit late, traffic. She gave a little laugh and I accepted it. We began
to sit down on the kitchen table and got to know each other as we kept talking, it seemed to be
that she is also new, in my classes, and we could somehow relate with each other on our likes,
dislikes, choices, and other little things. Kira is one of those people who is an introvert at first,
but when you get to talk to her more, she seems to be more easygoing and very kind and friendly.
Hmm, what to do, what to do. I say as I roam around in my small room after saying our goodnights
to each other after our time talking. I decided to lay on the queen sized bed, with my choice of own
sheets that are pink polka dots with a grey background. My walls are a beige colour as everything
else were to be only filled with other colours, mixed with plain such as brown and black.

Women s Suffrage In The Film Iron Jawed Angels
Iron Jawed Angels is a movie that is based on the history of women s suffrage leading up to the 19th
Amendment, allowing women to vote. Two of the main characters portrayed were Alice Paul and
Lucy Burns, two women s suffrage supports. The movie showed the struggle women went through
to earn the right to vote. Some of this includes picketing, abuse, imprisonment, and hunger strikes.
But that wasn t all. These women separated from the National American Woman Suffrage
Association (NAWSA) after the leaders, Carrie Chapman Catta and Anna Howard, wanted an
investigation done since Alice and Lucy didn t forward their funds to NAWSA. They created their
own organization, National Woman s Party (NWP). Although these women faced a plethora of
obstacles, they persevered and gain the right for women to vote.... Show more content on

During the parade, the police just stood by and watched as women were beaten. Then it happened
again during the picketing in front of the White House. The police arrested the women, but did
nothing to the men that were punching, hitting, and spitting on them. It was appalling. No human
deserves that type of treatment under any circumstance. On the other hand, their determination
was inspiring. These women faced so many people who were fighting against them; but they
continued to get up every morning and face the same thing over again. They had to have been
very resilient to face so much backlash and continue to fight. One of my favorite parts of the
movie was during the parade, when Inez Milholland rode in on a horse with the white cape. She
looked very powerful, and even more importantly, she was strong and determined. She was a great

Conversion Therapy And Its Effects On The Lgbtq Community
About 30 years ago, homosexuality was declassified as a mental disorder. It would be assumed that
treatments for to change homosexuality would end. However, conversion therapy is still being
used today, even our future Vice President, Mike Pence, believes in such treatment. That alone is a
huge threat to people of the LGBTQ+ community.
Conversion therapy is affecting the LGBTQ+ community greatly. Conversion therapy can be
defined as psychological interventions, from behavioral methods to psychoanalytic approaches to
change a person s sexuality or gender identity (Hadelman, pg. 202, 2002). This treatment has been
proven to not work as well as having harmful implications to LGBTQ+ people. In 1960, the

religious organizations to promote conversion of homosexuality (Baxter, pg. 1, 2015).

Interestingly enough, ex gay ministries do not keep statistics on the success of their work.
However, outside observers founded that at least two thirds of those in such groups give up within
two years, and that over seventy five percent of ex gay organizations fail within five years (Baxter,
pg. 2, 2015).
There are also no peer reviewed articles that display any kind of success with conversion therapy.
Even the cases that ex gay ministries consider a person cure is when that person is asexual and
refrains from any sexual encounters. This in turn is only a change in behavior, not sexual orientation

The Ethics Of DNA Testing And Ethical Dilemmas
As time goes on civilizations find innovations to make living a little bit easier. However, new
frontiers often bring struggles. In Flackelmann s articles on The Ethics of DNA Testing four
situations are given and later followed by a comprehensive analysis by both the public and by
experts in ethics, law, geneticsand any other various fields that correlate with the cases scenarios.
The first scenario (titled A Case of Dwarfism ) describes the story of a couple who are carrying
the gene for achondroplasia, meaning they both are dwarfs. The counselor tells the parents that
through genetic testing they can find out whether or not the child will have dwarfism as well. The

about their future children and is entitled to avoid anything they may consider to be too troubling to

But, access to this kind of information requires a serious amount of sensitivity and the person
handling it should be aware of this and understand that the only ethics that have entitlement in this
situation are the subjects . I think it s all very delicate and subjective. There should be many
considerations when having a child or dealing with one s genetics but, the most important one is
quality of life. As long as the ethics support that they are not only beneficial but,

Time Series Models for Forecasting New One Family Houses Sold in the United States
Introduction
The economic recession felt in the United States since the collapse of the housing market in
2007 can be seen by various trends in the housing market. This collapse claimed some of the
largest financial institutions in the U.S. such as Bear Sterns and Lehman Brothers, as they held
over leveraged positions in the mortgage backed securities market. Credit became widely
available to unqualified borrowers during the nineties and the early part of the next decade which
caused bankers to act predatorily in their lending practices, as they could easily sell and package
subprime mortgage loans on leverage. This act caused a bubble that would later ... Show more

12 period plot of autocorrelation functions (ACF) for NHS
Now that we have verified the presense of a trend in the data we will look to verify the
seasonality we saw earlier represented by regularly reoccurring fluctuations in the levels of data
in accordance with the calendar seasons. To do this we will use an autocorrelation function for
the first differenced new home sales data. We will use a larger sample, in this case 24 months, so
that we can see the regularly reoccurring fluctuations from one year to the next. When we look at
the graph in Figure 3 we notice great increases with lag 12 and lag 24. The jumps seen in lags 12
and 24 confirms the presense of seasonality as they are above the upper limit representing statistical
significance.

Oedipus The King, Death Of A Salesman, And The Glass...
In unit two of the semester, the class focused our attention on drama. As a class we read three
very good play s Oedipus the King, Death of a Salesman, and The Glass Menagerie. While all
three of these plays were well written and had their share of both dynamic and static characters, the
reader can t help but notice that the mothers in all three plays were secondary to their male
counterparts. The question posed is whether or not the mothers were nurturing, the answer was not
easy to come by since all three women were very different. While there were some mothers who
were nurturing to an extent, all of these women had their flaws and dysfunctions which led to them
to not be considered nurturers. In Oedipusthe King by Sophocles the motherJocastaspent years

which the characters have a fatal flaw, and this applies to Jocasta. Right after King Laius and
Queen Jocasta have their son Oedipus they receive startling news from the Oracle in which it is
predicted that one day their son will rise up to kill his father, then marry and sleep with his
mother. In order to avoid this King Laius decided to kill their son, and Jocasta willingly agrees.

Summary Of Autumn Poem
That life flows on and the operation in the natural order continues is stressed here. The fame of
poppies that drowses the harvester and the twined flowers that offer a resistance to the say the
cause a brief pause in time. This eagerness to prolong the moment of happiness the ode stanza,
extended to eleven lines, is give en a more prolonged effect and is also shared by autumnwho
watches the last oozing hours by hours she is in time and bears the full load of agony inherent in
process, but she is also above time watching the ceaseless and yet unhurried movement on the
temporal plane. The first stanza is set in the morning hours, the second stanza is set in the
drowsy midday and the sun s diurnal course is completed in the final stanza. The last two lines
of second stanza convey the audible juicy noise of the sibilants which is very strong one and is
presented not simply with a visual image of the last oozing, but an audible one also. At the same
when this celebration of joys of autumn is taking place, we find in the ode indirect images of
ageing. The sun is maturing it is growing older, and so is autumn itself, as in the close bosom
friend of sun only. There is an ambivalent note in the phase set budding more and still more
apparent in the phrase, reference to the bees until they think warm days will never cease. For
summer has over brimmid their clammy cells . The last verse moves to a different kind of

Dominance And Development Of Conflict Management Styles
Dominating Style in Conflict Resolution
Graham Jackson
LSAL 3133 301
Introduction Thesis Statement
I believe that there is a link between childhood experiences and the development of conflict
management styles, arguing that the exposures to family conflict resolution plays a great role in
determining the development of the dominating conflict resolution style.
Conflict is an inevitable part of human interaction. However, the way people deal with conflict is
largely linked with the outcome of the conflict resolution. Many studies have been conducted to
analyze the different styles of conflict management and resolution as Tou, Baker, Hadden and Lin
(2015) write. Consequently, the increasing amount of research conducted on the ... Show more

By far, the integrative approach is the best style of conflict management as it envisages a high level
of concern for both the conflict manager and the conflicting parties. The compromising style of
conflict management is characterized by the moderate concern for both the conflicting parties and
the conflict resolver. In other instances, the conflict manager exhibits low concern for self while
having high concern for others. For this reason the conflict management style is often referred to as
obliging. Even more, there are instances when the conflict manager chooses to adopt the avoiding
style of conflict. In this style, there is low concern for both self and others. Missing in the above
overview of the conflict management styles is the dominating style, which is discussed in this
study. Hopeck, Desrayaud, Harrison and Hatten (2014) defined conflict resolution as a process that
should be geared towards having a solution that suits all the parties involved in the conflict. The
author outlined how solution oriented conflict resolution style provides more positive outcomes in
comparison to the other styles of conflict management The dominating style of conflict
management is one that Cai and Fink (2002) linked to frustration. In the authors explanation, it is
natural for people to default to the dominating conflict

Chimpanzees, Humans, And Humans
Primates, especially Chimpanzee s, are one of the closest relatives to Homo sapiens on planet
Earth today. With the development of zoos in modern society, the observation of these animals has
become a relatively easy task and have allowed for humans to observe their actions and behaviors
in close proximity and in an in depth manner. I have been to numerous zoos throughout my lifetime
and have viewed all sorts of different primates and in particular chimpanzees. Chimpanzees are
highly interesting as they are closely related to humans and many of their behaviors are similar
to that of humans yet, they are taken out of their natural environments and put in these so called
zoo s. Over my time viewing these animals from previous trips to the zoo, it seems that every
time I went to the Chimpanzee exhibit there was less excitement than anticipated and the Chimp
s seemed to very relaxed and essentially just sat or laid around for hours upon hours. After
taking this into consideration, I wanted to test the reasons for this relaxed state and answer the
question of why the Chimpanzee s seem so relaxed and somewhat docile when in captivity? Why
are they so relaxed around the hundreds of zoo goers that go in and out of the zoo every day? Do
they not view them as a threat? These questions helped me form my hypothesis of if a chimpanzee
is in captivity it will have a more relaxed nature than it being in its own natural habitat due to
having no predators and scheduled feeding times.

Tuesdays With Morrie
Tuesdays with Morrie , by Mitch Albom, is a nonfiction retelling of a student s meetings with
his former mentor. Mitch, now a corporate lapdog, revisits one of his old college professors after
he hears that he has contracted ALS, a terminal disease with no known cure. Mitch and his old
professor, Morrie, discuss Morrie s life every tuesday, and these talks continuously make Mitch a
better person than who he was. Throughout this book many different themes are touched upon.
One of these such theme is the theme, and also Morrie s saying, Love or Perish . Throughout the

theme throughout the book is that Morrie teaches Mitch to live life his own way. Morrie is
disgusted by america s lust for greed, fakeness, and violence, and teaches to establish your own
way of thinking. While the O.J. Simpson case was going on, Morrie completely shut himself off
from the case, and instead focused on his family and friends. Morrie built his life on the foundation
of love and forgiving, two things that are shunned in America, in Morrie s eyes. Morrie teaches
Mitch that creating his own values and beliefs leads to a much more enjoyable life than accepting
mainstream America. One more theme evident in Tuesdays with Morrieis the theme that life is full
of choices. Morrie says early on in the book that he had two choices when he got sick, feel sorry for
himself or do something to try and help the world. Morrie choose the second

Teenage Subcultures
Due to the war ending in 1945, all families were able to settle down and have children. This led
to the baby boom of 1945 1960s where there was an abundance of youths in the 1950s. In the 50s
there were almost 100 babies born a minute putting a threat to over population (Howell.G, 1975).
From this, the teenager was invented (Kotarba J A, 2012) where many different subcultures had
formed, each with individual styles and influenced by figures in film, music and TV. Glossy
fashion magazines such as Vogue and Seventeen were also becoming very popular so youths
were able to easily see what the future held for trends and what clothes they should and shouldn t
be wearing. Teenage girls and boys were now recognised as a new consumer and when designers
started to realise this they set up boutiques inside department stores (Buxbaum.G, 1999). They
sold simpler designs at cheaper prices where the younger generation were able to create their
own style rather than copying their parents, for example ranges of clothes would come out
specifically targeted at young girls for dances where they would have a large choice in dresses to
buy. British teenagers had twice as much money to spend on what they liked compared to their
parents (Breward.C, 1999). This meant that a new market opened up for retailers with a great
economic dependence on this particular age group. One of these subcultures that had formed was

The Importance Of Respect
Respect can be displayed in numerous ways which may be verbal or none verbal dependent upon
the individual. My aim is to demonstrate a clear outline of respect touching upon subjects such as,
human rights, and values. Respect can be as straightforward as manors such as please and thank
you , although many may not always display this. Respectis dignity for every individual, mutual
acknowledgment from one individual to another portraying thoughtfulness and equality. (Nhina le,
2016). Respect has changed outstandingly over the years which effects the way we live today.
Morally It is of significance to include others without preconceptions or exceptions no matter of
differences such as ethnicity or beliefs. (Joyce Catlett and Robert w firestone 2009) respect and
human rightsinterlink, as in 1998 the humans right act came into power which is built up of 30
articles e.g. right to life which states that nobody including the government can try to end your life
(ref article) these rightsare about respect and belong to everyone.
VALUEs
Values are personal attributes of importance which we are passionate about, gained through life and
experiences. Values certainly influence the opinions we have and the choices we make, as these are
personal thoughts and felling of what we care about. (Hayden, 2006)
Values affect the way we choose to live our life furthermore the way we act towards others and
their life.(REF) As we develop as individuals many factors such as age, wisdom and life
experiences are likely to have an impacted value s now held in comparison to ones held in
younger life, as growth, knowledge and life experience act towards shaping us as individuals and
the way we may view things. Values are not factual nevertheless there are no right or wrong values
as these are personal to each and every individual. (x2ref)
changes were made, which has a huge influence throughout the world.
RESPECT many may say respect should be earned, but in certain instances, this is not always
possible, for ex; when
holding the door for someone who is walking behind you is effortless human respect, that is
morally expected to be given and reciprocated. showing respect for someone does not necessarily
mean you have to

this chip represents 5 years of sobriety. There was a celebration after this chip due to the hard

It is a daily walk to overcome and therefore, you must have a relationship with your higher power.
You must set aside a time of prayer and meditation to become spiritually connected to something
greater than yourself in order to overcome. Just as you drank or consumed your drug of choice
daily, you must make a conscious effort to feed your spiritual needs as well. You must surround
yourself with things and people who will encourage and uplift you in your walk to overcome.
Sometimes being dependent on other things can give a false sense. It is not unusual for
someone suffering from addiction to replace one thing for another. You can depend on someone
to encourage you but when they fail to do so, you might be tempted to go back to your original
item of choice. So being dependent can be a blessing and a curse, therefore, you must be
selective in what you choose to become dependent on. Many strongly suggested that you only
rely on your higher power because when you take inventory on where you were to where you
are now, you truly know that it was your higher power which got you there. People will fail you
where your higher power will be there regardless. There were numerous stories shared. In one
instant, a person had been sober for over 12 years and found

Role Of Doctors And The Medical System In Mrs Dalloway
Doctors and The Medical System in Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway
Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway is a piece of literature that helped to push forward a culture of
writing that she felt was otherwise stuck. Along with a style that transcended how people thought
about telling a story, was the commentary. The story is riddled with commentary on politics,
society, war, class, and the medical system. Virginia Woolflets her worldviews bleed into her
writing in a way that is somehow both subtle and also still direct. She lets the characters have their
own experiences and dialogue, which show her views from different perspectives and without just
coming out and saying it. The commentary that this is most evident in is Woolf s commentary on
doctors and the medical system as a whole. Throughout Mrs. Dalloway, Virginia Woolf shows the
incompetence of doctors and the medical system through Clarissa and Septimus s interactions with
them.
As the novel unfolds you begin to see more of the commentary on the medical system leak into
the story. When the novel begins, Clarissa is leaving to go out for a walk around the town.
Clarissa hasn t been able to get out as much as she has liked because she has struggled with her
own illnesses that have kept her presumably somewhat bed ridden. Although Clarissa s interactions
with the doctors in this story are not necessarily direct, it is made known that she has at least some
distain for the time in her life that she was struggling with her health.

Safe And Effective Birth Controls
For healthy pregnancies, it is critical to promote healthy behaviors. Women who do not plan to
become pregnant need to be aware of the prevention methods used for unwanted pregnancies. In
addition, women who plan on becoming pregnant need to be aware that they affect the outcome of
whether or not their infants are born healthy because of the way they take care of themselves and
their unborn children during the prenatal stage. Understanding common infant health conditions
and ways to prevent them may decrease the risk of babies born with medical problems. During the
year of 2012, 699,202 abortions were reported in the United States. The abortionratio was 210

Therefore, planned pregnancy is a huge key factor in preventing birth defects, because often times
birth defects develop even before women might know they are pregnant. Because women don t
know they are pregnant, they may consume alcohol, causing harm to their babies. Smoking causes
harm to infants before, during, and after pregnancies. Even in the womb nicotine, carbon monoxide,
and many other poisons women inhale from cigarettes are carried through their bloodstream.
Smoking while pregnant causes many developmental issues including birth defects, lung problems,
stunted growth, increase in babies heart rates, low birth weight, or result in stillbirths. However,
there are many other agents known to cause these developmental defects. For example, drugs and
other medications such as; thalidomide, isotretinoin, valproic acid, methotrexate, and
mycophenolate mofetil are also known to cause the same birth defects (Simeone, et al., 2015).

Purifying A Compound Of Benzoic Acid
Introduction
The purpose of this lab was to purify a compound of benzoic acid through the process of
recrystallization. This was done in a couple steps, first dissolved the product to be recrystallized in
hot solvent then filtered off impurities, then filtered to isolate the crystals from the recrystallizing
solvent [1]. For this method to work there were many different theories that play a role, one of the
theories is solubility. Solubility is a chemical property that a solute is able to dissolve in a solvent
[2]. This plays a huge role in the experiment as the first step was to dissolve the crude benzoic acid
in water. Solubility was important because if the crude benzoic acid did not dissolve within the
solvent then the impurities would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first step the benzoic acid had to be dissolved in the solvent, water, so that the impurities can
separate from the benzoic acid. Next, the solution was cooled slightly to add decolorizing charcoal
in order to remove the impurities. Then, the solution was heated up again for 20 minutes. Then, the
solution was filtered so the charcoal wouldn t be in the final product. Finally, when filtering with
the Buchner funnel the water was cooled this was used to prevent the benzoic acid from dissolving
in the water and being flushed away with the rest of the water.
The melting point of benzoic acid is 122.35 В°C [5]. The melting point determined from the
experiment is a range from 118В°C 120В°C. The reason for the experiment producing a melting
range compared to a melting point is due to impurities as well for the reason of a lower melting
point [1]. Impurities within the product lowers the melting point due to intermolecular forces, this
causes benzoic acid to not have as strong of a bond together in its crystal structure as there are
impurities in the way. This allows a lower level of heat to melt the benzoic

King Tudor Research Paper
The Tudors ruled England for 118 years. There were five Tudors to occupy the throne of England;
three kings and the first two women ever to be Queen by right of inheritance and not by marriage
(Meyer Introduction). The most famous of these rulers were King Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth
I. They are considered by many to be the most famous King and Queen to have ever ruled England,
and perhaps the most famous King and Queen in the history of the world (Meyer Introduction).
The Tudor Dynasty begins with King Henry VII and the story begins in Wales with King Henry

Jim Jones And The Jonestown Massacre Essay
On November 18, 1978, followers of Jim Jones shot and killed United States Congressman Leo J.
Ryan and four others traveling with him on a fact finding trip to Guyana. Ryan was there to
investigate complaints about the community called Jonestown, which was largely inhabited by his
former California constituents.
After murdering a United States congressman Jones knew the end of his rule was near. He ordered
his entire following, some 914 people, to commit what he called revolutionary suicide. This
included more than 200 children.
The rise

After the tragedy at Jonestown these politicians found it difficult to explain how Jim Jones so easily
took them in.
One of Jones long time followers Tim Stoen explained, There wasn t anything magical about Jim
s power. It was raw politics. He was able to deliver what politicians want, which is power. And how
do you get power? By votes. And how do you get votes? With people. Jim Jones could produce
3,000 people at a political event.
Agar Jaicks, Chairman of the county Democratic Central Committee seemed to agree with Stoen
s assessment when he said, What you had here was a ready made volunteer workforce he was very
strong here was a guy who could provide workers for causes.
Jones first step on his path to political influence began in the Fall of 1970. He created a fund for
the families of slain police officers. This was the beginning of a viable process he used to make
valuable friends through charitable contributions.
The first bad press Jones received in the Bay area was a somewhat critical story run by the San
Francisco Examiner in 1972. The paper exposed that Jones had claimed to be a prophet and said he
could raise the dead.
Perhaps to preempt any further embarrassment Jones subsequently gave out grants to 12
newspapers. He even bussed his people to demonstrate in support of reporters who had been jailed
for not revealing confidential sources. Ironically, the man who would later flee from the press and
oppress dissent within his

Examples Of Just War Utilitarianism
Just war theory includes the justification of the how and why that wars are fought. The justification
of war can be either viewed from a theoretical or historical perspective. The theoretical aspect
regards justifying war in an ethical manner and the specific forms that combat may or may not
involve. The historical aspect, or the just wartradition, deals with the rules or agreements that have
been applied to wars throughout time. Ethics examine institutional agreements for their
philosophical coherence as well as to inquire about whether aspects of the conventions should be
altered. The just war tradition may also consider the thoughts of various philosophers and lawyers
throughout time and to examine both their philosophical visions of war s ethical limits (or absence...

This can be applied to the just war theory. For the utilitarian approach, the end justifies the
means. Therefore, a nation would not need a just war cause other than having the right
intentions and making sure that the war would produce the greatest good for the greatest
number of individuals. The notion of jus in bello is to make sure that less evil will come about
if the war is fought. For example, when looking at New York City s 9/11 bombings, a utilitarian
would say that this was wrong : it was a selfish approach that did not end in the greatest good for
the greatest number; a utilitarian would not go against a threat made by a country or world
leader if the outcome would be the best for the entire world and would make it a better place
than it was before. The other approach: people are going to war without a just cause other than for
just good intentions. This would make the world a volatile, shaky unstable place. Overall, the
utilitarian and the jus in bello advocate would agree with the just war theory that war might be
necessary to make the world a better place as long as the war is justified through just

Essay On Taking Smart Pills
I believe that students who take nonprescription medication for enhanced cognitive ability have an
unfair advantage over students who choose not to take these smart pills . Those suffering from
disorders like ADD, ADHD, or even ADT may find these drugs useful to achieve normal brain
function and should therefore take them. However, if a studentconsumes these substances simply to
experience enhanced cognition, memory, and focus, this is the academic equivalent of an athlete
taking steroids to boost athletic performance. I say this because nootropic chemicals prepare
students to tackle assignments under abnormally brutal conditions such as extreme levels of
fatigue or several days deprived of sleep. High doses of Adderall can keep a person... Show more

Causing improved cognition and sharper focus, students can place higher on tests and have
more overall success when delving into tasks requiring strong memory and steady concentration.
These pills can also assist in blocking out distractions so students can stay on task for longer
periods of time. By making these drugs available to all adults, pharmacies would likely see an
increase in smart pill sales. This excess profit could potentially be applied to funding for more
extensive research of these drugs. Adults could then make more knowledgeable decisions when
considering use of nootropics. Potential drawbacks of taking smart pills include expense to the
individual. Adults would have to adjust personal spending habits to account for the cost of these
pills. These drugs can become habit forming, and tolerance builds over time. Increased tolerance
means more money spent on higher dosages of the drug to achieve the desired effect.
Experimenting with smart pills can lead to dependence or even drug addiction, as individuals
discover the effects to be so desirable that they are consuming the drug excessively. Drug abuse is
also a viable outcome. Experiencing a sudden wave of fatigue following use of stimulants is a
common side effect. These unwanted crashes may occur during working hours or during operation
of motor vehicles, creating a host of potential

Ernest J. Gaines A Gathering Of Old Men
In the book, A Gathering of Old Men , by Ernest J. Gaines, there are some events that
corresponds to issues Malcom X responds to in his speech The Ballot or the Bullet . Mathu s
believes in his respect as an equal person and gains it by not fearing white people. However, the
preacher Jameson fears the whites and is scared of the consequences of standing up to them. In
the book, times have changed and racism is slowly dying. In the story, A Gathering of Old Men ,
Mathu was a character that was respected, because he feared no one. When Beau was shot dead
on Mathu s lawn, he stated, If Fix started anything, I am going to protect myself (Gaines30). Being
that Fix is a white man, going against a white man at that time can lead blacks into a lot of trouble,
such as being lynched. Yet, Mathu was still prepared for the fight. If Mathu did not have the respect
he has, then he would have been lynched the moment he and Fix had the altercation at the store.
According to the text, When Fix told Mathu to take the bottle back in the store again, and Mathu
did not, Fix hit him and the fight was on (Gaines30). Mathu gained his respect, because he refused
to be mistreated by anyone. According to the book, To Mapes, Mathu was a real man (Gaines84).

actually defending himself. Even though Mathu stoop up for himself, he wanted for the other

Aside from Pearl Harbor the mainland of the U.S. remained completely untouched (Timeline).
During the war new life was breathed into the economy, factories were built to supply weapons

possessed an industrial system capable of supplying the tools necessary for rebuilding the world.
Eisenhower began providing the countries left in shambles with aide manufactured by U.S.

Similarities Between King Lear And The Great Gatsby
Despite the fact that the power of passion is heightened in King Lear and The Great Gatsby with
various literary devices, including amusing characters and outstanding themes, both the novels
have tragic endings. King Lear was written by William Shakespeare, in 1605, after Othello and
before Macbeth. This book proposes as one of Shakespeare s greatest plays. King Learis typically
about a king who banishes his youngest daughter (Cordelia) for refusing to be fraudulent and
allocates his kingdom to his 2 older daughters, and the occurrences that come along with it. King
Lear s fundamental theme is about betrayal. Children betraying their parents, old age takes over,
and the mind betrays his owner and leaves him lunatic. For example, Goneril directly indicates
King Lear when he says: I swear, old fools are babes again. (1,3) mentioning his old age. Another
example of disloyalty would be when Gloucester says: I am almost mad myself... The grief hath
crazed my wits (3.4) talking about the madness and foolishness of himself. Other themes of King
Lear would be family, power, justice and loyalty. An example of family would be How sharper

a dienophile consisting of a double bond in order to create a cyclohexene. The diene must be in
the s cis conformation in order for the electron transfer to engage correctly. If the diene in question
is in s trans conformation then the access to the molecules is limited, thus, no reaction can occur.
The dienophile we used was maleic anhydride. Maleic anhydride possesses high electron

Greek Informative Speech
Hi everybody, My name is Mary and I am going to be your docent for the day. Today we are
going to be learning about two different kinds of ancient artwork. I am going to be showing you
examples from ancient Egyptian art and ancient Greek art. First off we are going to learn about
ancient Greek art. The Greeksmastered the idea of sculpture, in earlier times the sculptures looked
fake but by the classical period they started looking more natural with realistic looking faces.
The Greeks also liked to make pottery out of stone and clay, they usually would have
mythological or religious scenes on them and grew more realistic over time. The first ancient
Greek art that we will be learning about today is the Winged Victory of Samothrace. It was
created around 220 185 BC made from parian and rhodian marble. On April 15, 1863 workers
were excavating and uncovered parts of a statue. They then sent it to the Louvre, where it is
currently on display. You can t tell from the picture, but can you believe that this statue is over 18
feet tall!! It has been suggested that she was once holding something in her right hand, such as a
trumpet, wreath, or a fillet. The base of the sculpture is made up of 23 blocks of marble. The next
piece of art that we will be learning about is the Laocoon and his Sons. This sculpture was made in

on December 6,1912. Next is a piece of art called Pallete of King Namer. The back of the palette
has a scene showing the king about to strike down a foe, whose hair he is grabbing. The king is
wearing a white crown which is associated with upper Egypt. The victim is shown naked kneeling
in front of him, arms close to his body indicating he was bound. In the background in the scene
there is a falcon, which is a symbol of the

Progressive Era Reformers Essay
From 1900 1920 in the United States of America the reformers of the Progressive Era and the
Federal Government were effective bringing about reform dealing with reforms to improve the
social disgrace of the working conditions, the enthusiasm to be a nation of self governed people,
and the individual interests of presidents despite limitations in the rulings of court cases, the
application of reforms reached, and the varying effectiveness of presidents.
Reformers looking to improve the working conditions of the progressive Era made significant
headway in their attempted reforms, though they were eventually limited by the decisions of the
supreme courts. Muckrakers (people who wrote critiques on society and its faults) like Upton

Improvements through laws were also made regarding the right to represent oneself in government
as well.
Multiple voices in the United States called for the betterment in the ability for the people to be self
governed which they achieved to an extent, even when limited by the failure to fully honor and take
advantage of the reforms they passed. Blacks received the right to vote after the civil war, though
this success was limited by the fact they were still not treated as equals (Document I). However
women were furious their suffrage was not included in the amendments; the fury led to a long and
hard campaign for their rights. They felt cheated that the government of the United States was
sympathetic with people around the world who weren t self governed, but turned a blind eye to the
fact that significant number of their own citizens could not vote either (Document H). Through
unions and associations, marches on the capitol and works of literature despite the reluctance to
grant them their rights in the governmental branches they work of the reformer eventually resulted
in the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment, the right for women to vote. A limitation in the eyes
of the reformers to this success was the lack of complete enthusiasm for women s suffrage by
women, and the lack of a drastic change in the government despite their argument the addition of
women to the ballots would make politics less corrupt. Another issue that campaigned for the

who just moved in and she ends up snooping in their apartment and overhear them planning to blow
up the capital and plotting her murder, but Lucy was unaware they were rehearsing a play. Thus,
Lucy ends up getting Ricky, Fred, and Ethel involved, and they all end up in jail until the policeman
reveals the neighbors are just actors. This one show conveys a commutative and family
environment, with conservative information, unlike the shows of today. The society at in the 1950

Gloria Naylor The Meaning Of A Word Essay
Words are a correlation of letters that can hold immense power, Gloria Naylor explains this in
her essay The Meaning of a Word. Today s society pushes the importance of kind words and
constantly highlights how one word can brighten a person s day. Yet people are hardly taught the
blunt fact that one word can also devastate a person s day into self loathing. In Gloria Naylor s
essay a reader can easily be enlightened on how positive and negative techniques can be expressed
through connotation. In this autobiographical essay, Naylor expresses the effect of words through
personal experiences invoking ethos and pathos, the power of connotation, and how racism ceases
to diminish in today s society. Gloria commonly implements the appeals of ethos and pathos in her
essay. Writing her history of racial remarks directed towards her, hands Naylor the credibility to

As soon as she heard Naylor confess the question she knew that in the future more racial slurs
would be directed at her daughter. Today racism still corrupts society, although it has diminished
quite a bit, racism can still easily be found in America. Racial slurs are still thrown around
commonly and the connotation of these slurs still can have the same strength. Joanne Dumm
realizes this often saying We work very hard for that negative connotation to disappear. Dumm
knows the powers of connotation and can relate to Gloria Naylor in this way. In the same way,
the two woman know that the power of connotation still affects racism today. Naylor ended her
essay with And since she knew that I grew up in America, she took me in her lap and explained.

Essay On The Role Of Fate In Macbeth
In 1606, The Scottish Play, also know as Macbeth, was performed in the theatres of England.
Macbeth is one of Shakespeare s most famous tragedies. In the beginning of the play, Macbeth (the
main character) is told his fate by three witches. The information that is told to him was
misleading. The play presents a series of experiences in which the main character makes decisions
that ultimately lead to his death. Continually, throughout the play one will see Macbethmake
decisions he regrets, however he turns around and repeats the same actions. Even though Macbeth
was told his fate , it does not mean he could not be the author of his own book. Fate is when an
event is unavoidable. The three witches tell Macbeth his fate when he is with Banquo,... Show more

Women often played the role of being reserved and following orders. In this Scottish Play, Lady
Macbeth is not the typical 1600s woman. In 1.5.1 14, Lady Macbeth is alone with a letter from
her husband. Macbeth notified his wife about the encounter he had with the three weird sisters.
After reading the letter, Lady Macbeth expressed how she believed her husband was too kind to
make himself king in a timely matter (1.5.18 22). As a result of Lady Macbeth wanting her
husband to become king, she strategized a plan to kill the king. She informed her husband of the
plan and told him he would murder King Duncan. Macbeth did not want to kill the king and he
stated reasons why the king deserved to live. Macbeth said the king was loved by everyone and
has never done his people wrong. Despite knowing that information, he still allowed his wife to talk
him into killing an innocent man. Macbeth had the will to say no and stand his ground. After all,
Macbeth was honored by the king for his loyalty and bravery. In 1.2.64 65, King Duncan named
Macbeth the Thane of Cawdor. Macbeth even experienced a time where he had second
thoughts(1.7.1 28). That means he knew right from wrong. Unfortunately, Macbeth allowed others

Pros And Cons Of John Muir
John Muir is best known for his efforts to preserve the wilderness of the United States, which
greatly contributed to the preservation of countless natural areas of the US through the National
Parks Service. During his travels across the country and abroad, Muir recorded his thoughts and
beliefs about nature and the fundamental connection people share with the earth. By voyaging into
the wild and shedding the restraints and ideals of modern society, Muir argues that people can
expand their understanding of the world and experience life to its full potential through immersing
themselves in nature. First and foremost a researcher of the environment, Muir believed that by
spending time in nature, he could more deeply understand the earth and all of the knowledge it has
to offer. During one of his numerous expeditions in the Yosemite Valley
in 1869, Muir remarks that
...these lawless wanderings will be valuable as suggestive beginnings... if I should return to the
awkward rules laws of civilization be buried as a strand into the thick of society. He knows that if
he returns to civilization, his excursions will be no more than beginnings of research that will
serve no real purpose. He further comments that, These sweet free roamings be as little chinks
seams on life s horizon whence I may obtain narrow glimpses of the treasures of the Kingdoms of
Nature beyond. Just as the horizon blocks out sunlight, Muir argues that civilization blocks out the
opportunity to discover

  • 2. The Financial Sector Is A Crucial Part Of Society s... The financial sector is a crucial part of society s critical infrastructure. Commerce drives our daily functions in acquiring necessities as well as desires. The debate for what is a necessity versus desire is not my point, but the reliance we have on the financial sector in order to function is. Since the days of bartering have been replaced with a monetary system in addition to technological advances, we have become as dependent upon the financial system as we are on oxygen. Accumulation of wealth has always been a driving factor since the financial system s inception. In the past, bankrobberies were the major concern as such notorious robbers as Jessie James along with Bonnie and Clyde were infamous for their robbing sprees. However, today s bank robberies are less likely to be done in the physical nature with advances in technology. Malware plus Spyware are now the threat to financial securityin personal and commercial capacities. The financial sector has experienced enormous change over the past few decades. Evaluating the changes that have transpired over the last 40 years is amazing. Transformation of the industry began in the 1970 s when the Federal Reserve announced the U.S. dollar was moving away from the gold standard and has culminated today with the latest technological applications. Henceforth, the ways financial transactions take place have forever changed (LoМЃpez, Setola, Wolthusen, 2012, p. 300 302). Justifiably, the financial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Aspirin Therapy For Vascular Disorders Aspirin Therapy for Vascular Disorders Physicians across the country agree that daily use of aspirin for prevention of vascular disorders is controversial (Neale, 2014). Dr. J. Jaques Carter of Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston admits that he used to recommend a daily aspirin to all of his middle aged adult patients, regardless of vascular disease risk factors being present, as it was standard procedure at the time (Neale, 2014). Dr. Len Horovitz of Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City explains that the FDA guidelines regarding routine prescription of aspirin for men and women over age 55 and 65 respectively have changed as studies have demonstrated the greater risk of GI bleeding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This paper will explore the benefits and risks of routine use of aspirin therapy in the treatment of vascular disease and prevention of its concurrent complications. According to Burchum Rosenthal (2016) five major risk factors for heart disease are age, gender, cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and smoking status . If you fit this profile, a daily aspirin might be recommended as you are at high risk for having your first heart attack, may have had a heart attack or stroke in the past and as long as you do not have a history of bleeding or clotting disorders (Mayo Clinic, 2016). The benefit of a daily aspirin would be to prevent platelets from sticking together and forming a blockage where a vessel is damaged due to disease or lifestyle or may be narrowed from fat deposits or atherosclerosis (Mayo Clinic, 2016). VanWormer et al. (2012) proposed that aspirin therapy is actually under utilized by high risk patients and over utilized by those at low risk for cardiovascular disease where the risk of bleeding is greater than the possible benefits. Having limited data regarding the sociodemographic variables of aspirin use, VanWormer et al. (2012) set about creating a study to evaluate these variables among adults in Wisconsin without a history of cardiovascular disease. Selecting A Health Care Provider Summary Chapter One Selecting a Health Care Provider At no time should a patient feel uneasy with the treatment they receive, or the overall environment of the facility they are visiting. All staff should address concerns with a professional approach. According to Issidoros Sarinopoulos, Ph.D., a professor of radiology at Michigan State University, Patients should pay attention to how their doctor makes them feel and recognize empathy as a desirable characteristic in a physician. Chapter 2 Preventative Sexual Health Services Preventative services include vaccines, screenings for transmitted diseases and infections and counseling to assist in making health minded decisions. Regardless of one s ability to pay for preventative services, they have a right to these services through community organizations. However, not all communities offer comprehensive preventative sexual health services at no cost or low cost. Research what is available in your area, starting with your local Planned Parenthood office. Males should be aware that Planned Parenthood offers reproductive services, general health care, sexual health services and cancer screenings for men. • 6. Position Paper On Declaration Of Independence Position Paper The Declaration of Independence states all the reasons why the colonies considered themselves independent from England. Thomas Jefferson didn t believe in the reasons stated in the Declaration of Independence. He simply used ideas from others to justify it. Jefferson says that all men are created equal , and because of this they have certain unalienable rights. Thomas Jefferson didn t think all men were equal. He refers to the Indians as the merciless Indian savages, whose known rule of warfare is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes, and conditions. From the way in which he describes them we can assume that he considered them inferior and uncivilized. He was also a slave owner. A man, who did not believe that Indians and black people are men couldn t use the idea that all men are created equal. Jefferson says that among the unalienable rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. These rights were originally John Locke s ideas, with the exception that he believed that property was an unalienable right. The fact that Jefferson uses the pursuit of happiness instead of property is proof that he didn t believe in these rights. If he really believed in them he would have mentioned property. Perhaps the reason why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When somebody is killed their right to life is taken away. • 7. America s Lack Of Economic Equality America suffers from a lack of economic equality; the population is divided into social classes. Per Mantsios, the upper fifteen percent control eighty five percent of the nations wealth. This attributes the other eighty five percent of the population the remaining fifteen percent of the nations wealth. The people born into a high economic standing can afford better educationwhich prepares them for better jobs. And those who are born into a lower economic standing are more expected to enter low income schools and conditioned for labor jobs. Higher income families, those of the fifteen percent, are more likely to have children that will obtain a better education. This leaves the other eighty five percent of the population that make up the lower and middle classto seemingly reduced education and public schooling which is only available for free up until the twelfth grade. The population consisting of the lower class, who can t afford higher education, are less likely to continue to go to college; this only narrows their options for jobs. Those in the upper classwill have a better education and obtain higher positions in companies than those in the lower class. Educational development is a very important step in life; it seems that people are judged everyday especially on their education. Parents seem to go through extensive procedures to get their children through the best education possible, just to help them succeed in life. It s no surprise that schools in wealthy ... I sat my things down on the kitchen table and turned to the fridge, opening to get a drink of water as I was literally dying of thirst. Are you my roommate? I jumped and quickly turned around. My roommate s appearance that I just met now, has a light brown bob cut, rounded glasses with grey eyes, wearing a casual navy blue dress with a red leather belt. She stood near the table with her boxes and bags and I gave her a calm look, with a gentle smile. Oh yes, my name s Elaine. Nice to meet you, and you are? I m Kira. Sorry I came here a bit late, traffic. She gave a little laugh and I accepted it. We began to sit down on the kitchen table and got to know each other as we kept talking, it seemed to be that she is also new, in my classes, and we could somehow relate with each other on our likes, dislikes, choices, and other little things. Kira is one of those people who is an introvert at first, but when you get to talk to her more, she seems to be more easygoing and very kind and friendly. Hmm, what to do, what to do. I say as I roam around in my small room after saying our goodnights to each other after our time talking. I decided to lay on the queen sized bed, with my choice of own sheets that are pink polka dots with a grey background. Two of the main characters portrayed were Alice Paul and Lucy Burns, two women s suffrage supports. The movie showed the struggle women went through to earn the right to vote. Some of this includes picketing, abuse, imprisonment, and hunger strikes. But that wasn t all. These women separated from the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA) after the leaders, Carrie Chapman Catta and Anna Howard, wanted an investigation done since Alice and Lucy didn t forward their funds to NAWSA. On the other hand, their determination was inspiring. These women faced so many people who were fighting against them; but they continued to get up every morning and face the same thing over again. They had to have been very resilient to face so much backlash and continue to fight. Financial Forecasting Time Series Models for Forecasting New One Family Houses Sold in the United States Introduction The economic recession felt in the United States since the collapse of the housing market in 2007 can be seen by various trends in the housing market. This collapse claimed some of the largest financial institutions in the U.S. such as Bear Sterns and Lehman Brothers, as they held over leveraged positions in the mortgage backed securities market. Credit became widely available to unqualified borrowers during the nineties and the early part of the next decade which caused bankers to act predatorily in their lending practices, as they could easily sell and package subprime mortgage loans on leverage. To do this we will use an autocorrelation function for the first differenced new home sales data. We will use a larger sample, in this case 24 months, so that we can see the regularly reoccurring fluctuations from one year to the next. When we look at the graph in Figure 3 we notice great increases with lag 12 and lag 24. As a class we read three very good play s Oedipus the King, Death of a Salesman, and The Glass Menagerie. While all three of these plays were well written and had their share of both dynamic and static characters, the reader can t help but notice that the mothers in all three plays were secondary to their male counterparts. The question posed is whether or not the mothers were nurturing, the answer was not easy to come by since all three women were very different. While there were some mothers who were nurturing to an extent, all of these women had their flaws and dysfunctions which led to them to not be considered nurturers. In Oedipusthe King by Sophocles the motherJocastaspent years married to her biological son, and bore his children. The first stanza is set in the morning hours, the second stanza is set in the drowsy midday and the sun s diurnal course is completed in the final stanza. The last two lines of second stanza convey the audible juicy noise of the sibilants which is very strong one and is presented not simply with a visual image of the last oozing, but an audible one also. At the same when this celebration of joys of autumn is taking place, we find in the ode indirect images of ageing. Dominance And Development Of Conflict Management Styles Dominating Style in Conflict Resolution Graham Jackson LSAL 3133 301 Introduction Thesis Statement I believe that there is a link between childhood experiences and the development of conflict management styles, arguing that the exposures to family conflict resolution plays a great role in determining the development of the dominating conflict resolution style. Conflict is an inevitable part of human interaction. However, the way people deal with conflict is largely linked with the outcome of the conflict resolution. Many studies have been conducted to analyze the different styles of conflict management and resolution as Tou, Baker, Hadden and Lin (2015) write. Consequently, the increasing amount of research conducted on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By far, the integrative approach is the best style of conflict management as it envisages a high level of concern for both the conflict manager and the conflicting parties. The compromising style of conflict management is characterized by the moderate concern for both the conflicting parties and the conflict resolver. In other instances, the conflict manager exhibits low concern for self while having high concern for others. For this reason the conflict management style is often referred to as obliging. Even more, there are instances when the conflict manager chooses to adopt the avoiding style of conflict. In this style, there is low concern for both self and others. Missing in the above overview of the conflict management styles is the dominating style, which is discussed in this study. Hopeck, Desrayaud, Harrison and Hatten (2014) defined conflict resolution as a process that should be geared towards having a solution that suits all the parties involved in the conflict. The author outlined how solution oriented conflict resolution style provides more positive outcomes in comparison to the other styles of conflict management The dominating style of conflict management is one that Cai and Fink (2002) linked to frustration. • 17. Chimpanzees, Humans, And Humans Primates, especially Chimpanzee s, are one of the closest relatives to Homo sapiens on planet Earth today. With the development of zoos in modern society, the observation of these animals has become a relatively easy task and have allowed for humans to observe their actions and behaviors in close proximity and in an in depth manner. I have been to numerous zoos throughout my lifetime and have viewed all sorts of different primates and in particular chimpanzees. Chimpanzees are highly interesting as they are closely related to humans and many of their behaviors are similar to that of humans yet, they are taken out of their natural environments and put in these so called zoo s. Over my time viewing these animals from previous trips to the zoo, it seems that every time I went to the Chimpanzee exhibit there was less excitement than anticipated and the Chimp s seemed to very relaxed and essentially just sat or laid around for hours upon hours. After taking this into consideration, I wanted to test the reasons for this relaxed state and answer the question of why the Chimpanzee s seem so relaxed and somewhat docile when in captivity? Why are they so relaxed around the hundreds of zoo goers that go in and out of the zoo every day? Do they not view them as a threat? These questions helped me form my hypothesis of if a chimpanzee is in captivity it will have a more relaxed nature than it being in its own natural habitat due to having no predators and scheduled feeding times. ... Throughout this book many different themes are touched upon. One of these such theme is the theme, and also Morrie s saying, Love or Perish . Morrie relays that without his wife, without his nurses, and most importantly without Mitch, he would not have been able to last as long as he did with his ALS. Another theme throughout the book is that Morrie teaches Mitch to live life his own way. Morrie is disgusted by america s lust for greed, fakeness, and violence, and teaches to establish your own way of thinking. While the O.J. Simpson case was going on, Morrie completely shut himself off from the case, and instead focused on his family and friends. Morrie built his life on the foundation of love and forgiving, two things that are shunned in America, in Morrie s eyes. Morrie teaches Mitch that creating his own values and beliefs leads to a much more enjoyable life than accepting mainstream America. One more theme evident in Tuesdays with Morrieis the theme that life is full of choices. Morrie says early on in the book that he had two choices when he got sick, feel sorry for himself or do something to try and help the world. Morrie choose the second ... This led to the baby boom of 1945 1960s where there was an abundance of youths in the 1950s. In the 50s there were almost 100 babies born a minute putting a threat to over population (Howell.G, 1975). From this, the teenager was invented (Kotarba J A, 2012) where many different subcultures had formed, each with individual styles and influenced by figures in film, music and TV. Glossy fashion magazines such as Vogue and Seventeen were also becoming very popular so youths were able to easily see what the future held for trends and what clothes they should and shouldn t be wearing. Teenage girls and boys were now recognised as a new consumer and when designers started to realise this they set up boutiques inside department stores (Buxbaum.G, 1999). They sold simpler designs at cheaper prices where the younger generation were able to create their own style rather than copying their parents, for example ranges of clothes would come out specifically targeted at young girls for dances where they would have a large choice in dresses to buy. British teenagers had twice as much money to spend on what they liked compared to their parents (Breward.C, 1999). This meant that a new market opened up for retailers with a great economic dependence on this particular age group. Role Of Doctors And The Medical System In Mrs Dalloway Doctors and The Medical System in Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway is a piece of literature that helped to push forward a culture of writing that she felt was otherwise stuck. Along with a style that transcended how people thought about telling a story, was the commentary. The story is riddled with commentary on politics, society, war, class, and the medical system. Virginia Woolflets her worldviews bleed into her writing in a way that is somehow both subtle and also still direct. She lets the characters have their own experiences and dialogue, which show her views from different perspectives and without just coming out and saying it. The commentary that this is most evident in is Woolf s commentary on doctors and the medical system as a whole. Throughout Mrs. Dalloway, Virginia Woolf shows the incompetence of doctors and the medical system through Clarissa and Septimus s interactions with them. As the novel unfolds you begin to see more of the commentary on the medical system leak into the story. When the novel begins, Clarissa is leaving to go out for a walk around the town. Clarissa hasn t been able to get out as much as she has liked because she has struggled with her own illnesses that have kept her presumably somewhat bed ridden. Although Clarissa s interactions with the doctors in this story are not necessarily direct, it is made known that she has at least some distain for the time in her life that she was struggling with her health. ... This was done in a couple steps, first dissolved the product to be recrystallized in hot solvent then filtered off impurities, then filtered to isolate the crystals from the recrystallizing solvent [1]. For this method to work there were many different theories that play a role, one of the theories is solubility. Solubility is a chemical property that a solute is able to dissolve in a solvent [2]. This plays a huge role in the experiment as the first step was to dissolve the crude benzoic acid in water. Solubility was important because if the crude benzoic acid did not dissolve within the solvent then the impurities would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the first step the benzoic acid had to be dissolved in the solvent, water, so that the impurities can separate from the benzoic acid. Next, the solution was cooled slightly to add decolorizing charcoal in order to remove the impurities. Then, the solution was heated up again for 20 minutes. Then, the solution was filtered so the charcoal wouldn t be in the final product. Finally, when filtering with the Buchner funnel the water was cooled this was used to prevent the benzoic acid from dissolving in the water and being flushed away with the rest of the water. The melting point of benzoic acid is 122.35 В°C [5]. The melting point determined from the experiment is a range from 118В°C 120В°C. The reason for the experiment producing a melting range compared to a melting point is due to impurities as well for the reason of a lower melting point [1]. Impurities within the product lowers the melting point due to intermolecular forces, this causes benzoic acid to not have as strong of a bond together in its crystal structure as there are impurities in the way.
