Endodontic Infection
Costeron defined biofilms as spatially structured microbial communities, embedded in a hydrated
matrix of extracellular polymeric substances, that they have produced. Their function is dependent
on a complex web and syntrophic interactions. (Costerton,1987)
Biofilm mode of growth is very beneficial for bacteria, as they build structured communities with
fluid channels, waste products, and signal molecules. (Usha, 2010)
The subject of biofilms in endodontic infection was widely discussed in literature.
Nair in 1987 using light and electron microscopy examined 31 lesions, obtained by extraction of
teeth with gross coronal caries and infected root canal system. He observed microstructure of
inflammatory tissues and noticed the formation of layers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The changes within periapical tissue involve neurovascular changes of vasodilatation, hyperemia,
vascular congestion and oedema of the periodontal ligament.
Acute inflammation is hallmarked by the influx of neutrophils. Neutrophils are attracted to the area
by chemotaxis, which is a response to the initial tissue injury or may be initiated by bacterial
products such as LPS. The radiographic changes of this stage will not be evident, as the process is
young and there have been not adequate bone destruction. Symptoms at this stage are: pain, tooth
elevation and tenderness to pressure. If the cause of apical periodontitis is non microbial, the lesion
may resolve, providing the irritant has been eliminated.
In case of microbial cause, neutrophils respond releasing leukotrienes, and prostaglandins.
Leukotrienes (LTB4) will stimulate the influx of new neutrophils and macrophages to the side of
inflammation. Prostaglandins will act to activate osteoclasts and bone resorption. After few days
the bone in the periapical area can be resorbed. This can be detected by conventional radiographic

Dbq Middle Passage
Middle Passage Reflection Essay Triangular trade between Europe, Africa, and the Americas
spurred economic growth, increased intercontinental diversity, and was a prime example of a
globalizing world. It also spread and exacerbated the brutal and inhumane practice of slavery to
the Americas, where it took root and became a cornerstone of the American way of life for years.
The middle passage between West Africaand the West Indies was a voyage of misery, pain, and
illness for the slaves being shipped, and while their misery does not compare with that of the
enslaved, the journey was not pleasant for the white crew either. Conditions on slave ships were
miserable, and disease spread through the close quarters like wildfire. Document B starts to explain
the massive impact that disease had on ship dwellers. The document begins by simply stating the
death count on an average voyage from the first day when they buried 14 to the last when the death
count totaled 320. The document then goes on to identify and explain the causes of the high
mortality... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Document C explores how slaves were packed into the ships like animals and gives examples of
other ways African slaves were treated barbarically. Slaves were positioned to maximize potential
profit, being positioned so close as to admit of no other posture than lying on their sides . This
grossly unsuitable positioning created problems among the slaves themselves with slaves falling to
continual quarrels when they would stumble over each other trying to get to food. Due to these
atrocious conditions, many slaves decided that death would be better than continued misery and
attempted to starve themselves. When the crew saw that a slave was skipping meals and trying to
starve themselves coals of fire were put on a shovel and placed so near their lips that they scorched
and burned

Similarities Between Hispanics And African Americans
According to Bell (2012), while African Americans and Hispanics hold broadly favorable views
of each other, Hispanics are less likely to say the two groups get along well. At the same time,
African Americans are far more likely than Hispanics to say African Americans are frequently the
victims of racial discrimination. The similarities that unite African Americans and Hispanics are a
racially, ethnically, and culturally different mix of people whom all deal with the same issues our
country faces. Bell (2012) writes, both groups have their personalities regardless of how well
their personalities are or aren t accepted by society, and we struggle for our socio cultural values
and styles to be appreciated and recognized. Similarities include... Show more content on

under different circumstances, which defines their culture here. My personal insight that I have
gained in preparing this paper is Black Immigrants were brought to American as slaves, the land
that had been forced on them. Black Americans were the children of Black Immigrants; they were
born into slavery. Slaves could not own weapons, receive an education, meet or move about without
permission from their master. Slavery ran from 1619 until 1865 in much of the present of the
United States. That is two hundred and forty six years of slavery. Today, African Immigrants have
voluntarily immigrated to America, and have been able to take full advantages of a new life in
America. A new life in American could include freedom, educational opportunities, and the chance
to develop economically. African Immigrant children knew no other place, like other Americans,
they too are the children of immigrants. We are now called African American because having the
same opportunities as any other society in the United States of American. In 2009, the first Black
man became president of the United States of America. Also, there is a Hispanic American woman
on the Supreme Court Justices. In 2013, an Indian American won The Miss America Beauty
Contest. However, until immigration is addressed, relations between these two groups will be

Alex Kintner s Jaws After The Sinking Of The US
After the fatal death of Alex Kintner getting eaten whole by a great white, nothing left but the
yellow lilo that came to shore. We meet a brave character by the name of Quint, the shark hunter, he
told the people that he would capture the shark, but instead of $3000 he wanted $10,000. As he
goes on the journey with the chief and the ichotnyist, he tells them about the traumatic encounter
with a great white shark. To summarize, Quint talks the shark attack that followed after the sinking
of the U.S.S Indianapolis by a Japanese submarine. He explains the sharkscharacteristics to the

The Learning Theory Of Action
The Learning Theory in Action The learning theory is a theory describing how information is
absorbed, processed, and retained during learning. There are many different views of the learning
theory and many different groups of people who have studied and still study the learning theory.
Among these groups are behaviorists, cognitive theorists, transformative learning theorists, and
those who advocate for constructivism. In my paper I will talk mostly about the behaviorist s
views on learning and how they believe that learning is an aspect of conditioning. behaviorists, like
other observers of the learning theory, use classical and operant conditioningto distinguish the
different types of learning that are being done and to show how the brain responds differently after
being conditioned by a stimulus. Classical conditioning is a type of learning in which a stimulus
that used to have no effect on an individual is now conditioned to have a response because it is
associated with another stimulus that already gets a response from the individual. Operant
conditioning or instrumental conditioning, is a form of learning that is conditioned to respond in
either a positive or negative way depending on the consequences that are produced by either
positive or negative reinforcement. The learning theory is used in almost all aspects of the
education system and in my paper I will talk about learning with autism and particularly the effects
that ABA treatment have had on people who live

Businesses are heavy users of computers, computers are very important to businesses as they
can use them for a number of reasons such as for storing important files, making invoices, cash
flow statements even having meetings through the computers. They also use them as a method
of advertising. People at home may use them for personal use such as checking their e mails,
booking holidays, children doing their homework. people over 60 years of age are also very
familiar with the use of computers. As time goes on it is becoming more apparent that people are
becoming more and more involved with computers everyday. Internet Cafes are being set up
everywhere so there is computer access available everywhere you go. Therefore I think that it is

Reasons And Results Of The Civil War
Reasons and Results of the Civil War
The Civil War was a very critical event in American History. It started by many disagreements
between the North and the South. For blacks as for other Americans, the Civil War was a strong
voice preaching the needs for devotion and allegiance to form a justified nation. After the war ended
there were many results that would forever linger throughout America and the world. The South
was known as the Confederate States of America, seceded from the North, which was known as the
Union. The seceding of the South was because of four decades of intense sectional differences and
conflicts between both South and North. The secession of the Southern states was not an instinctive
act. Situations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand the South wanted to withhold all undetermined powers to the individual states
and to withhold all these projects. The predominant issue why the South seceded was the
slavery issue. The South wanted and called for slavery and would do anything they could to
keep it. Cold heartedly the slaves were items and if taken away would put a huge dent in
investments towards Southerners. The value to the slaveholding planter class was
immeasurable. Northerners demanded for collective bargaining to develop goals such as free
education, better salaries and working conditions for workers, and better rights for woman.
Northerners said that slavery revoked the rights of a human to be a free person. The subject of
slavery left, and the North headed for war and eventually defeated the South in the Civil War.
Without this war I sorely would have to say that we could have been in a much more segregated
society than we already are. This war was needed in order to produce a stronger and more stable
country for everyone.
Slavery was abolished in the Union during Abraham Lincoln s presidency. Lincoln called it
Emancipation Proclamation. This movement was definitely a day of awakening for America as a
whole, which finally realized what free meant. All the Southern states would soon rejoin the Union.
After the war concluded

The Ethics Of The Arco Avon
ABSTRACT On August 18, 2015, a fire broke out in the engine room of the dredger Arco Avon.
This vessel was in the process of loading sand roughly 12 miles off Great Yarmouth, UK when a
fire broke out in the engine room. The fire was started when the third engineer attempted to
repair a failed fuel pipe that was under pressure. This high pressure fuel in the pipe ignited and
broke out into the rest of the engine room and was then suppressed by the fixed CO2 system.
The fire aboard the Arco Avon resulted in one death, Anthony Jones, the third engineer.
Throughout the investigation, it was determined that there were many shortcomings within the
engineering department including, lack of communication, poor risk assessment, and lack of
work permits. INTRODUCTION The Arco Avon is a suction dredger flagged in the United
Kingdom that is owned and operated by Hanson Aggregates Marine Limited. It was built in 1986
with a steel hull, an overall length of 98.6m, and gross tonnage of 3,474. The vessel has a
minimum safe manning of 8 persons issued by the Bureau Veritas, the classification society for
the Arco Avon. The propulsion for the Arco Avon is made up of a Mirrlees Blackstone KMR6
Mk3, 4 stroke, single acting, 6 cylinder in line diesel engine that is coupled to a controllable pitch
propeller through a reduction gear. The main engine also has a shaft generator attached to the free
end that is called No. 1 generator (DG 1). In addition to the shaft generator the ship also has an

Roy Lichtenstein Vs Andy Warhol
Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol are similar and very different in numerous ways. Both artists
are apart of the pop art era. The artists use a combination of bright colors and patterns on their
work creating the famous look of pop art. Both of the artists had to wait until later in their life to
become successful. Roy Lichtenstein was originally an art professor and Andy Warholwas a
commercial illustrator. Although, there are more differences between the artists rather than
similarities.
Lichtenstein was known for his famous use of onomatopoeias in his comic strips. In his art you
will notice that there are tiny dots to create a unique pattern. When you hear Warhol, you think of
the soup cans. He used bright colors and silkscreen printing

Comp II Reflection
I have always tried my hardest in school, trying my best to make my parents proud of me. Have
there been time when I could have tried harder? Absolutely. There have been many times where
I have found myself slipping in my schoolwork, and I have always caught myself. There is one
time in particular of my junior year that I won t soon forget. It was the beginning of what was
looking to be a long week. It was supposed to be outrageously cold, I had a full weekend of work to
look forward too, and I had a big paper due in my Comp II class. Now, this paper was different
because instead of being in our Comp II class all week like we were accustomed too, we would
be on our own in the library while we individually went to speak with our teacher about how we
were doing. During first semester, I had really liked the week on our own, but this week was
going to throw a curve on me that I didn t expect. On Monday, everything was fine. I had my
meeting in Comp II where I showed my teacher the rough draft of the essay that was due that
Friday. I was so excited to show her and together we went through the paper and she showed me
the things I needed to add and improve. I left the meeting excited to fix the paper and make it...

The Is A Human Need
1. My product, despite not servicing a human need, is very useful as a want product.
Many people, especially in a highly industrialized, fastpaced society, look for a way to relax and
unwind after a day s work, something which often comes from the use of alcohol. Because
Belgians are hardworking, urban people, it is important that at the end of the day they have a bit
of a reward for all their work, even if this means one relaxing whiskey on the rocks.
2. As mentioned in the previous stage, in Canada and the United States the target market for
Canadian Club is very specific. Here, it is marketed as a manly drink, and mainly sold to
middleaged and elderly males. In Belgium, because of the egalitarian view within the country, it

Unlike many countries where the use of alcohol is rare or prohibited due to the prominence of a
certain religion (i.e. Iran), there are technically no issues with the use of alcohol in Belgium.
However, as will be expanded on later, during the six weeks of what
Catholics call Holy Lent before Easter, many people participate in a ritual where a part of a person
s diet is given up voluntarily in order to make way for increased spirituality.
During this time, some of the people who still practice Lent (of which there are already quite few)
may choose to give up alcohol. Otherwise, the use of the product does not interfere with the
popular beliefs in the country in any way. With only 5 percent of the population being Muslim, and
and an even smaller 0.3 percent being Orthodox Christian
(they also practice Lent), the popular view of alcohol in Belgium is a generally positive one. In
fact, Belgium itself is one of the world s largest producers of beer, which indicates the general
opinion surrounding the topic of alcohol.
6. Canadian Club is mainly unique in two ways. Firstly, its obviously foreign name, which already
gives it an edge in the Belgian market. Because it is a distinctly Canadian product, customers may
view it as something exotic and different from other products available. Secondly, as mentioned
earlier, Canadian Club is marketed as a product of exceptional quality, putting it ahead of many
other competitors of worse quality.
7. Belgium s current topselling

Speech On Abandoned Children
There are many reasons for the large number of abandoned children in India. The children can be
unwanted (mostly girls), illegitimate or orphans due to diseases. The children have to be taken care
of one way or the other. Orphan children are the deprived and the isolated population deserving
special attention to become healthy and responsible children, physically fit, mentally alert and
morally healthy endowed with the skills and the motivation needed by society. UNICEF and global
partners define an orphanas a child who has lost one or both parents. An estimated 31 million
children in India, aged 0 17 years, are orphaned and abandoned according to the most recent
statistics from UNICEF.
Proper family environment plays an important role in the life of children. Nobody can deny the
important role of parents in developing balanced and harmonious development of personality. But
unfortunately cruel fortune deprives some children of the sympathetic affectionate parental care.
These children are known as orphaned children. An orphan is a child permanently bereaved of his
or her parents. In common usages, an orphan does not have any surviving parent to care for him or
her. Because of parental deprivation some children are reared in destitute homes and in orphanages.
This group of children is termed as institutionalised orphan children. These ... Show more content

Deviant Populations In Prisons
Throughout history societies have attempted to manage and control their deviant populations.
Western industrial societies have undergone a number of transformations in their quest to achieve
such control. Disenchantment with the penal system and its inability to achieve rehabilitation
within its confines has meant that in recent years, and especially since the 1960 s, a central element
in the social control practises of advanced capitalist societies has been a state sponsored attempt to
deinstitutionalise deviant populations. In face of steadily escalating crime rates, overcrowded prison
systems and an increasing number of the population formally deserving imprisonment, a variety of
approaches have been initiated in an attempt to reduce the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It wasn t until the 1960 s however that the transformations that took place at the end of the
eighteenth and the beginning of the nineteenth centuries seriously became under attack (Cohen
1985, p.30). The notion of these attacks were that the prison system was failing (Tomasic and
Dobinson 1979, p.15). Prisons were seen as brutal (Vinson 1982, p.14), inhumane, and instead of
achieving their rehabilitative goals, studies have shown that the further into the system a deviant
is processed, the harder it is for him or her to return to a normal life (Cohen 1985, p.33). An
increasing crime rate and number of those imprisoned led to the demand for action to be taken, but
at the lowest possible cost to society (Tomasic and Dobinson 1979, p.16). The failure of repeated
efforts to better the penal system produced consensus in favour of reversing the directions taken by
the system in the late eighteenth century (Cohen 1985, p.31) and a recognition that perhaps instead
of upgrading prisons, the focus should be on emptying

How Does Voltaire Use Humor In Candide
Comedy is often thought of as light hearted humor; however, it can be used to incite thoughtful
laughter using a humorous situation to invoke reflection. Two examples of books that incite
thoughtful laughter are: America (the Book): A Citizen s Guide to Democracy Inaction by Jon
Stewart and Candide by Voltaire. The two authors use humorto satirize how people think and the
way they act and to incite the reader to actually think about the subject presented in their texts. In
Candide, Voltaire uses dark humor and irony to attack philosophical optimism, government,
religion, and human greed. Voltaire mainly attacks philosophical optimism and this is seen through
his character Pangloss, who believes that everything is the best of all possible worlds even after
getting syphilis, being almost killed, and sold as a slave. When Pangloss states that a situation is...

For example, when he told Candide that he contracted syphilis, he explained that it was a great
thing because if they were never introduced to syphilis (which came from the Americas), then
they would never have been introduced to chocolate. Voltaire uses understatement to refute
Pangloss through the character Candide, who, after facing some form of danger, starts to doubt
his teacher s philosophy. In Chapter XVI, Candide and Cacambo are captured by Oreilons who
plan to roast and eat them. Candide s reaction was to state All is well, I won t argue about it... ,
but our mind tells us that being roasted alive and then eaten isn t fine and dandy. Voltaire throws in
plenty of euphemisms throughout his book. One example is in Chapter II Candide is inscripted to
fight for the Bulgars. One the men he drinks with delivers an extravagant speech, and afterwards
we learn about the harshness of warfare. Chapter VI

What You Don t Know Might Kill You
What You Don t Know Might Kill You Millions of Americans wake up every morning and make
a decision about what they will eat for breakfast to jump start their day. Some may reach for a
bowl of Cheerios or multigrain cereal, while others may opt for yogurt, toast, or a pastry. Some
people choose to wash down their breakfast with pulp free orange juice, while some may drink a
protein drink or an invigorating coffee to get them going. For lunch, many people will consume
sandwiches piled high with meats and cheeses or perhaps a cheap meal from the nearest fast food
restaurant. When it comes to dinner, this meal may vary from family to family, but most dinners
consist of a starch or two, a kind of meat, some variation of a vegetable on a good day, and a dessert
to finish out the day.
People who regularly eat this way have more than just food in common. In fact, most people who
constantly eat the previously mentioned American diet, suffer from some sort of physical, mental,
or emotional illness, whether it be chronic headaches, poor gut health, obesity, diabetes, asthma,
chronic fatigue, ADHD, anxiety, or any of the other thousands of health problems. Many people
suffering from these illnesses are led to believe that there is no direct cure and that they will just
have to cope with their illness. However, what most of those people do not realize is that many of
the diseases they are plagued with are often caused by the chemicals that make up their food. Even

Negative Consequences. The negative consequences of this decision is that the district will most
likely be sued in a court of law by the ACLU because of the Establishment Clause of the first
amendment and the precedence set in previous cases. Another negative consequence is that a small
segment of the community and students will feel as though their concerns are not important, so
Superintendent Noble risks losing some support. Priority Principle. The benefits outweigh the
negative consequence through the lens of utility because the decision to leave the bulletin board
posted will be the best decision for the overwhelming majority of claimants involved. According to
the lens of utility, the decision is ethical.

Police Power In Achieving Justice In The Law Enforcement...
The criminal justice system is effective in achieving justice, in relations to police power and
authority. Police are tasked with an essential role in protecting and enforcing the law. They are a
critical aspect towards the criminal justice system and the criminal investigation process. To assist
their role to the community, they ve been provided several types of powers and authorities to
achieve their duties towards the community. These authorised powers are used to stop, search and
detain a person when they re certain a crimeis committed. Consequently, policecan use this authority
to potentially violate another individuals right, such as privacy. Whilst this power allows police to
fulfil their duty to the community, is that justifiable to violate an individuals right?
Police makes the decision whether to investigate a crime based on the likelihood of success,
available resources and priorities or the severity of the offence. Police can use several methods
and authorised powers to assist their investigation. Most of NSW Police s powers are listed out in
the Law Enforcement (Powers and Responsibilities) Act 2002 (NSW). Law Enforcement (Powers

John Maynard Keynes And The First World War
Introduction
Since the industrial revolution in the 1800s, the European economy changed for the first time.
John Maynard Keynes, a well known English economist, was a member of the British delegation
to the peace conference in Versailles in 1918. He offered an opinion in which would cause the
reparation against Germany to have negative economic consequences for Germany and Europe as
a whole. [cite text pg 341]. This paper will discuss in depth the life and approach John Maynard
Keynes used when analyzing the Treaty of Versailles. To do this, one must consider the effect of
the First World War and the imposed reparations on the German economy and the European
economy as a whole, as well as the effect on the United States economy, as they issued... Show

By 1914 all the European Powers had elected lower houses of parliament, and a majority of the
adult male population was enfranchised. The press was relatively free, and citizens could form
parties and pressure groups. Prior to the 19th century, most European citizens were under complete
ruling of a king or queen, meaning they have final say over any and all political, financial, legal,
and economic decisions. With the democratization of Europe, citizens could now participate in
important political decisions, which in turn, makes the European economy much more vulnerable.
Democratization of Europe makes the European economy more vulnerable because a king/queen
makes economical decisions based solely to make themselves more wealthy while furthering the
nation. On the other hand, a political leader who makes economical decisions to satisfy the needs
of citizens, keeping the future and wealth of the nation as a lower priority. Also, a king/queen is
more likely to be more experienced and might have more attachment to important decisions, due to
the fact that they are taking over the role of the rulings of a previous family member in the country.
They also make decisions that impact the nation long term, rather than just for the amount of time
for which they are in power. Alternatively, in the consideration of democratic leaders, there
generally is a lot of leaders to make decisions for the country, allowing

The Psycological Effects of Masochism and Sadism
The Psychological Causes and Effects of Masochism and Sadism
Katelyn Mueller

December 6, 2015
Abstract
Masochism and sadism are very alike in nature. Masochism is a sexual perversion characterized
by pleasure in being subjected to pain or humiliation; especially by a loved object. Sadism is the
pleasure in being abused or dominated. Sadists have a taste for suffering. Masochism could be a

In the past, masochists have been labeled as extremely disturbed, but recent studies show a
surprisingly different picture. Empirical observers think that practicing masochists are normal, at
least when it comes to their nonsexual activities.
Whether sexual masochism is considered pathological depends on whether one accepts the sexual
practices of masochists as symptoms. If someone does not judge the sexual patterns alone in these
masochist behaviors, then the majority of the people who are considered masochists appear to be
normal and healthy. It is said that participating in sadomasochistic relations is compatible with a
normal, sane, and even a successful life.
The prevailing theoretical position since Sigmund Freud has been that masochism is derived from
sadism. In some clinical experiments, sadism is possibly the main attraction. It is also possible that
the mentally ill are drawn to inflicting pain rather than receiving it. Most theorists have thought that
there is a strong link between masochism and sadism and have accentuated sadism. It is apparently
the more important and essential pattern. A lot of evidence contradicts these views. Masochism is
far more common than sadism. The number of submissive people outnumbers the number of
dominant people. The pattern in which one partner wants to dominate but the other partner is
reluctant to submit is very rare. The only study that

been able to confide in anyone, and I hope you will be a great source of comfort and support (1).
In the beginning, Anne discusses quit ordinary aspects of a traditional childhood. She talks
about going to school, describing the people she likes, and all her admirers. Additionally, Anne

In order to measure the shoulder function, I asked the patient to put both hands together behind her

Siblings In Much Ado About Nothing And Don John
Have you ever had a sibling that you fought with constantly? The siblings in Much Ado About
Nothing (Don Pedro/Don John.) certainly do. William Shakespeare, the Playwright, did a great job
engineering their relationship. Much Ado About Nothing s conflict is surrounded by treachery,
dishonesty, slander, romance, and Social Classes. The other part of the conflict is about a friend
trap, a plot to ruin a marriage between main characters, and a lot of physical conflict. Don John
and Don Pedro have more different qualities than they have qualities in common. The siblings Don
John and Don Pedro are nothing alike! Or are they? ВЁIВґd rather be a canker in a hedge, than a
rose in his bush! In this quote, he said that he doesn t want to be a friend of his brother, and the
fact that he hates his brother is apparent in this quote. It must be said that I am a plain dealing

John is very similar to his brother. Most siblings are different, but also very similar in some cases.
The prince s brother... This quote indicates that Don John and Don Pedro are both princes, meaning
that they have some subjects that they rule over. This also indicates that they must show some
good qualities that they must have, such as good judgement. Don John is just as good of a judge of

White Man s Muscles Essay
The White Man s Muscles
In today s society, the naked white male body is found everywhere. It can be seen in print ads,
including clothing catalogues, TV commercials, and especially in movies, yet the prevalence of
the naked white male body is something that has only been embraced since the 1980s. Prior to the
1980s, half naked white males were hardly ever seen in popular film because of the negative
effects it would have on male self esteem and masculinity.
People in our generation remember watching films such as Rocky, Rambo, and The Terminator,
which showed incredibly built and tan white males in some type of extreme action role. However,
people would be hard pressed to find a film in which a half naked white male was ... Show more

The obvious differences between these men and other men off the street plays into the ideals of
masculinity. Only toned bodies, bodies that simulate the ideals of perfection can truly avoid any of
the horrors that are associated with coming into contact with femininity and non whiteness. Men
like to see these toned men as opposed to regular guys because they do not need to fear their
shortcomings. Only few people can live up to the idea of the perfect man and so seeing them on film
is a form of escapism. If real men were depicted, all of their fears associated with being normal
would be realized.
The use of bodybuilders in film instead of standard males was a mask to cover up the
inadequacies of white men. Using these perfect beings has negative effects even today but it is
constantly being reinforced in our society. The ideal of the perfect man being as muscular as
Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone has fallen by the wayside however a new ideal of
perfection has risen to take its place.
White males are now commonly seen shirtless in films and in some instances completely naked.
This is a result of a major change in the ideas about what society thinks is acceptable. Bodybuilders
are no longer considered the best representation for masculinity because of the

weakness in my early childhood, when I was ten years old. An example of me noticing my
disability starting to kick in was when I was running for physical education, and I felt like I was
connected to a parachute. As the years went by things that took physical strength started to get
harder. For example, running, walking, lifting objects, and getting up off of chairs. I was
diagnosed with muscular dystrophy when I was about thirteen years old. This disability is a

strength can do. This challenge has prevented me from doing many types of movements. Since I do

Colonial Apothecaries Essay
Colonial Research Project
Sarah Kong
February 26, 2018
Apothecary; noun a person who prepared and sold medicine and drugs. Have you ever wondered
what came before doctors? That kind of occupation was for apothecaries. I chose this particular job
for my research project because apothecaries use a lot of interesting objects, and were way different
than present day doctors and pharmacists.
In Europe, folks who were selling wine, spices, and herbs were known as apothecaries. They
prepared and sold medicine directly to patients. Apothecaries also gave out medical advice and sold
out many different products.
Colonial apothecaries practiced as doctors, made house calls to treat patients, provided medical

They are very similar. Both used chalk for heartburn, calamine for skin irritations, and cinchona
bark for fevers. Later, apothecaries found out that cinchona bark contained quinine for malaria, and
quinidine for cardiac problems. But medical treatment was very expensive, so that led to the
colonists to self diagnose and treat their own problems.
Medical treatment was expensive and people frequently diagnose themselves, and the way they
treated themselves was (1. The remedy was passed down from tradition, (2. They were guided by
folklore, or (3. by books. To cure headaches, for example, the colonists often used a remedy that
contained roses and vinegar. The rose petals are steeped into vinegar, and then they were applied
topically.
In some trades, the apothecaries skill and knowledge were secret, and little about them were
published in books. For apothecaries and surgeons, there were textbooks, and many of them
survived. The National Library of Medicine, the nation s largest medical library, published a
bibliography of the eighteenth century books in its collection. Most of the 501 pages are titles of
things such as medical theory, midwifery, pharmacy, surgery, and diseases. Apothecaries were

Therapeutic Assessment Essay
Assessments
The assessments performed on this patient were vital signs, blood glucose levels and regular
blood tests. The vital signs were temperature 36.5 degrees, 80 beats per minute, 20 respiratory
rates, blood pressure was 140/70 and oxygen saturation was 99%. This objective data is all within

The Importance Of Employee Empowerment In Human Resource...
Employee empowerment has been a major topic that is discussed thoroughly by human resource
management teams in a lot of different companies. By definition, employee empowerment is
simply giving employees responsibility and authority to make decisions regarding all aspects of
product development or customer service, (Noe, 2016, p. 38). Companies are torn between the
pros and cons of really trusting employees to give them the authority to draw their own
conclusions. This is an important topic in HR because if this idea is done correctly, it can really
improve the organizations overall performance and this in turn will make the company more
profitable. An aspect as to why employee empowermentcan help a company or employee is
because the employee is held more accountable for their actions and the outcomes of the events
that take place. Either good or bad, they will feel more connected to the work they are doing and
will most certainly make them have a sense of pride in the job they do (Noe, 2016). Empowering
employees can be a way to increase innovation all throughout companies. All employees should be
able to share their ideas on how to make the organization more efficient, safer, and operate better
overall. If managementlistens to their employees and implements the ideas they think will work,
then this will make employees feel important and more engaged in the workplace (Noe, 2016).
Once employees feel like they have a sense of belonging to the company, they will be more

Analysis Of Toni Morrison s Sula
Two young girls, coalescing on a grass laden field while lying on their stomachs, dig a hole in
unspoken harmony. A picture of youth and innocence, this scene depicts an innocuous moment
which the two girls share as a result of their juvenescence or does it? In Toni Morrison s Sula,
this scene, among others, appears at first to be both irrelevant to the novel s underlying theme and
out of place with regard to the rest of the plot. Yet, when analyzed further, the literary devices that
Morrison uses in these scenes bring readers to a vastly different conclusion. These scenes serve as
windows into the mind of Morrison and even into the larger themes present in the text. So, perhaps
two girls sharing a seemingly casual experience is not as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like the vasculature of plants shrouded by bark, innocence is shrouded and further internalized as
social influence compiles. Thus, Morrison effectively illustrates both the presence of innocence
and its inherent definition via careful diction in this scene. Additionally, the scene is illuminating
because of the timing in which Morrison introduces the idea of renewed innocence. She chooses
to place it directly before one of the most gruesome and chilling events of the novel: the death of
Chicken Little. Now, readers could wonder if she is simply juxtaposing two starkly contrasted
scenarios for literary effect. But even though the timing could be interpreted solely to as a method
of juxtaposition, an ulterior motive becomes apparent when readers inquire why the girls allow
Chicken Little to die after illuminating their innocent cores, not before. If the girls had killed
Chicken Little before stripping away the bark from the twig, the scene could be perceived as a
symbol of internal cleansing and a means of psychologically stripping themselves of guilt. But the
scene precedes his drowning, possibly indicating that their ambivalence was catalyzed by their
exposed, innocent essence. Morrison portrays such a vastly contradictory portrayal of popularized
innocence in an attempt to demonstrate how innocence may not be defined as innocuously as
society defines it. However, before stating the another significant element

A more definitive reading of Hamlet disputes the claim that he was mad, and instead suggests that
Hamlet feigns madness in order to become closer to the truth. This reading is an example of
Shakespeare demonstrating the changing context in Denmark through the projection of the
protagonist as an extended metaphor for the emerging Renaissance Humanism period. This period
was defined by choice and analysis of events, and is emulated through Hamlet s alliterated
statement in his soliloquy in Scene 3, Act 1, conscience makes cowards of us all. Hamlet believes
he is in a psychological state of cowardice, and that his conscience is holding him back through his
assessment of the consequences of acting on the orders of the ghost. L.C. Knight believes Hamlet
is the exploration and implicit criticism of a particular state of mind or consciousness . This
questioning on the theme of humanity and the final stage in Hamlet s complex thought process is
finally resolved in the soliloquy in Scene 4, Act 3. Hamlet s characterisation, once that of a pure
man whose mind was riddled with angst at the idea of murder shifts to a mind of bloody thoughts
as a result of his bound duty. This personified imagery is a reflection of Hamlet s now tainted mind
since the murder of Polonius, and the constant obsession with Claudius murder. Hamlet accuses

It is suggested that the organization consider a defined contribution plan. Defined contribution
plans set aside a pre determined amount into a retirement vehicle, such as a 401k. They are easier
to manage, have less volatility and have lower costs than defined benefit plans. In addition,
defined contribution plans, such as a 401k plan allow employees to make contributions as well. A

  • 2. Endodontic Infection Costeron defined biofilms as spatially structured microbial communities, embedded in a hydrated matrix of extracellular polymeric substances, that they have produced. Their function is dependent on a complex web and syntrophic interactions. (Costerton,1987) Biofilm mode of growth is very beneficial for bacteria, as they build structured communities with fluid channels, waste products, and signal molecules. (Usha, 2010) The subject of biofilms in endodontic infection was widely discussed in literature. Nair in 1987 using light and electron microscopy examined 31 lesions, obtained by extraction of teeth with gross coronal caries and infected root canal system. He observed microstructure of inflammatory tissues and noticed the formation of layers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The changes within periapical tissue involve neurovascular changes of vasodilatation, hyperemia, vascular congestion and oedema of the periodontal ligament. Acute inflammation is hallmarked by the influx of neutrophils. Neutrophils are attracted to the area by chemotaxis, which is a response to the initial tissue injury or may be initiated by bacterial products such as LPS. The radiographic changes of this stage will not be evident, as the process is young and there have been not adequate bone destruction. Symptoms at this stage are: pain, tooth elevation and tenderness to pressure. If the cause of apical periodontitis is non microbial, the lesion may resolve, providing the irritant has been eliminated. In case of microbial cause, neutrophils respond releasing leukotrienes, and prostaglandins. Leukotrienes (LTB4) will stimulate the influx of new neutrophils and macrophages to the side of inflammation. Prostaglandins will act to activate osteoclasts and bone resorption. After few days the bone in the periapical area can be resorbed. This can be detected by conventional radiographic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Dbq Middle Passage Middle Passage Reflection Essay Triangular trade between Europe, Africa, and the Americas spurred economic growth, increased intercontinental diversity, and was a prime example of a globalizing world. It also spread and exacerbated the brutal and inhumane practice of slavery to the Americas, where it took root and became a cornerstone of the American way of life for years. The middle passage between West Africaand the West Indies was a voyage of misery, pain, and illness for the slaves being shipped, and while their misery does not compare with that of the enslaved, the journey was not pleasant for the white crew either. Conditions on slave ships were miserable, and disease spread through the close quarters like wildfire. Document B starts to explain the massive impact that disease had on ship dwellers. The document begins by simply stating the death count on an average voyage from the first day when they buried 14 to the last when the death count totaled 320. The document then goes on to identify and explain the causes of the high mortality... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Document C explores how slaves were packed into the ships like animals and gives examples of other ways African slaves were treated barbarically. Slaves were positioned to maximize potential profit, being positioned so close as to admit of no other posture than lying on their sides . This grossly unsuitable positioning created problems among the slaves themselves with slaves falling to continual quarrels when they would stumble over each other trying to get to food. Due to these atrocious conditions, many slaves decided that death would be better than continued misery and attempted to starve themselves. When the crew saw that a slave was skipping meals and trying to starve themselves coals of fire were put on a shovel and placed so near their lips that they scorched and burned ... • 4. Similarities Between Hispanics And African Americans According to Bell (2012), while African Americans and Hispanics hold broadly favorable views of each other, Hispanics are less likely to say the two groups get along well. At the same time, African Americans are far more likely than Hispanics to say African Americans are frequently the victims of racial discrimination. The similarities that unite African Americans and Hispanics are a racially, ethnically, and culturally different mix of people whom all deal with the same issues our country faces. Bell (2012) writes, both groups have their personalities regardless of how well their personalities are or aren t accepted by society, and we struggle for our socio cultural values and styles to be appreciated and recognized. Similarities include... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... under different circumstances, which defines their culture here. My personal insight that I have gained in preparing this paper is Black Immigrants were brought to American as slaves, the land that had been forced on them. Black Americans were the children of Black Immigrants; they were born into slavery. Slaves could not own weapons, receive an education, meet or move about without permission from their master. Slavery ran from 1619 until 1865 in much of the present of the United States. That is two hundred and forty six years of slavery. Today, African Immigrants have voluntarily immigrated to America, and have been able to take full advantages of a new life in America. A new life in American could include freedom, educational opportunities, and the chance to develop economically. African Immigrant children knew no other place, like other Americans, they too are the children of immigrants. We are now called African American because having the same opportunities as any other society in the United States of American. In 2009, the first Black man became president of the United States of America. Also, there is a Hispanic American woman on the Supreme Court Justices. In 2013, an Indian American won The Miss America Beauty Contest. However, until immigration is addressed, relations between these two groups will be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Learning Theory Of Action The Learning Theory in Action The learning theory is a theory describing how information is absorbed, processed, and retained during learning. There are many different views of the learning theory and many different groups of people who have studied and still study the learning theory. Among these groups are behaviorists, cognitive theorists, transformative learning theorists, and those who advocate for constructivism. In my paper I will talk mostly about the behaviorist s views on learning and how they believe that learning is an aspect of conditioning. behaviorists, like other observers of the learning theory, use classical and operant conditioningto distinguish the different types of learning that are being done and to show how the brain responds differently after being conditioned by a stimulus. Classical conditioning is a type of learning in which a stimulus that used to have no effect on an individual is now conditioned to have a response because it is associated with another stimulus that already gets a response from the individual. • 8. Reasons And Results Of The Civil War Reasons and Results of the Civil War The Civil War was a very critical event in American History. It started by many disagreements between the North and the South. For blacks as for other Americans, the Civil War was a strong voice preaching the needs for devotion and allegiance to form a justified nation. After the war ended there were many results that would forever linger throughout America and the world. The South was known as the Confederate States of America, seceded from the North, which was known as the Union. The seceding of the South was because of four decades of intense sectional differences and conflicts between both South and North. The secession of the Southern states was not an instinctive act. Situations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand the South wanted to withhold all undetermined powers to the individual states and to withhold all these projects. The predominant issue why the South seceded was the slavery issue. The South wanted and called for slavery and would do anything they could to keep it. Cold heartedly the slaves were items and if taken away would put a huge dent in investments towards Southerners. The value to the slaveholding planter class was immeasurable. Northerners demanded for collective bargaining to develop goals such as free education, better salaries and working conditions for workers, and better rights for woman. Northerners said that slavery revoked the rights of a human to be a free person. The subject of slavery left, and the North headed for war and eventually defeated the South in the Civil War. Without this war I sorely would have to say that we could have been in a much more segregated society than we already are. This war was needed in order to produce a stronger and more stable country for everyone. Slavery was abolished in the Union during Abraham Lincoln s presidency. Lincoln called it Emancipation Proclamation. This movement was definitely a day of awakening for America as a whole, which finally realized what free meant. • 10. The Ethics Of The Arco Avon ABSTRACT On August 18, 2015, a fire broke out in the engine room of the dredger Arco Avon. This vessel was in the process of loading sand roughly 12 miles off Great Yarmouth, UK when a fire broke out in the engine room. The fire was started when the third engineer attempted to repair a failed fuel pipe that was under pressure. This high pressure fuel in the pipe ignited and broke out into the rest of the engine room and was then suppressed by the fixed CO2 system. The fire aboard the Arco Avon resulted in one death, Anthony Jones, the third engineer. Throughout the investigation, it was determined that there were many shortcomings within the engineering department including, lack of communication, poor risk assessment, and lack of work permits. INTRODUCTION The Arco Avon is a suction dredger flagged in the United Kingdom that is owned and operated by Hanson Aggregates Marine Limited. It was built in 1986 with a steel hull, an overall length of 98.6m, and gross tonnage of 3,474. The vessel has a minimum safe manning of 8 persons issued by the Bureau Veritas, the classification society for the Arco Avon. The propulsion for the Arco Avon is made up of a Mirrlees Blackstone KMR6 Mk3, 4 stroke, single acting, 6 cylinder in line diesel engine that is coupled to a controllable pitch propeller through a reduction gear. There have been many times where I have found myself slipping in my schoolwork, and I have always caught myself. There is one time in particular of my junior year that I won t soon forget. It was the beginning of what was looking to be a long week. It was supposed to be outrageously cold, I had a full weekend of work to look forward too, and I had a big paper due in my Comp II class. Now, this paper was different because instead of being in our Comp II class all week like we were accustomed too, we would be on our own in the library while we individually went to speak with our teacher about how we were doing. During first semester, I had really liked the week on our own, but this week was going to throw a curve on me that I didn t expect. On Monday, everything was fine. However, as will be expanded on later, during the six weeks of what Catholics call Holy Lent before Easter, many people participate in a ritual where a part of a person s diet is given up voluntarily in order to make way for increased spirituality. During this time, some of the people who still practice Lent (of which there are already quite few) may choose to give up alcohol. An increasing crime rate and number of those imprisoned led to the demand for action to be taken, but at the lowest possible cost to society (Tomasic and Dobinson 1979, p.16). How Does Voltaire Use Humor In Candide Comedy is often thought of as light hearted humor; however, it can be used to incite thoughtful laughter using a humorous situation to invoke reflection. Two examples of books that incite thoughtful laughter are: America (the Book): A Citizen s Guide to Democracy Inaction by Jon Stewart and Candide by Voltaire. The two authors use humorto satirize how people think and the way they act and to incite the reader to actually think about the subject presented in their texts. In Candide, Voltaire uses dark humor and irony to attack philosophical optimism, government, religion, and human greed. Some people choose to wash down their breakfast with pulp free orange juice, while some may drink a protein drink or an invigorating coffee to get them going. For lunch, many people will consume sandwiches piled high with meats and cheeses or perhaps a cheap meal from the nearest fast food restaurant. When it comes to dinner, this meal may vary from family to family, but most dinners consist of a starch or two, a kind of meat, some variation of a vegetable on a good day, and a dessert to finish out the day. If someone does not judge the sexual patterns alone in these masochist behaviors, then the majority of the people who are considered masochists appear to be normal and healthy. The ideal of the perfect man being as muscular as Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone has fallen by the wayside however a new ideal of perfection has risen to take its place. White males are now commonly seen shirtless in films and in some instances completely naked. This is a result of a major change in the ideas about what society thinks is acceptable. As the years went by things that took physical strength started to get harder. For example, running, walking, lifting objects, and getting up off of chairs. I was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy when I was about thirteen years old. Have you ever wondered what came before doctors? That kind of occupation was for apothecaries. I chose this particular job for my research project because apothecaries use a lot of interesting objects, and were way different than present day doctors and pharmacists. In Europe, folks who were selling wine, spices, and herbs were known as apothecaries. They prepared and sold medicine directly to patients. • 33. The Importance Of Employee Empowerment In Human Resource... Employee empowerment has been a major topic that is discussed thoroughly by human resource management teams in a lot of different companies. By definition, employee empowerment is simply giving employees responsibility and authority to make decisions regarding all aspects of product development or customer service, (Noe, 2016, p. 38). Companies are torn between the pros and cons of really trusting employees to give them the authority to draw their own conclusions. This is an important topic in HR because if this idea is done correctly, it can really improve the organizations overall performance and this in turn will make the company more profitable. An aspect as to why employee empowermentcan help a company or employee is because the employee is held more accountable for their actions and the outcomes of the events that take place. Either good or bad, they will feel more connected to the work they are doing and will most certainly make them have a sense of pride in the job they do (Noe, 2016). Empowering employees can be a way to increase innovation all throughout companies. All employees should be able to share their ideas on how to make the organization more efficient, safer, and operate better overall. If managementlistens to their employees and implements the ideas they think will work, then this will make employees feel important and more engaged in the workplace (Noe, 2016). A picture of youth and innocence, this scene depicts an innocuous moment which the two girls share as a result of their juvenescence or does it? In Toni Morrison s Sula, this scene, among others, appears at first to be both irrelevant to the novel s underlying theme and out of place with regard to the rest of the plot. Yet, when analyzed further, the literary devices that Morrison uses in these scenes bring readers to a vastly different conclusion. These scenes serve as windows into the mind of Morrison and even into the larger themes present in the text. So, perhaps two girls sharing a seemingly casual experience is not as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like the vasculature of plants shrouded by bark, innocence is shrouded and further internalized as social influence compiles. Thus, Morrison effectively illustrates both the presence of innocence and its inherent definition via careful diction in this scene. Additionally, the scene is illuminating because of the timing in which Morrison introduces the idea of renewed innocence. She chooses to place it directly before one of the most gruesome and chilling events of the novel: the death of Chicken Little. Now, readers could wonder if she is simply juxtaposing two starkly contrasted scenarios for literary effect. But even though the timing could be interpreted solely to as a method of juxtaposition, an ulterior motive becomes apparent when readers inquire why the girls allow Chicken Little to die after illuminating their innocent cores, not before. If the girls had killed Chicken Little before stripping away the bark from the twig, the scene could be perceived as a symbol of internal cleansing and a means of psychologically stripping themselves of guilt. But the scene precedes his drowning, possibly indicating that their ambivalence was catalyzed by their exposed, innocent essence. Morrison portrays such a vastly contradictory portrayal of popularized innocence in an attempt to demonstrate how innocence may not be defined as innocuously as society defines it. A more definitive reading of Hamlet disputes the claim that he was mad, and instead suggests that Hamlet feigns madness in order to become closer to the truth. This reading is an example of Shakespeare demonstrating the changing context in Denmark through the projection of the protagonist as an extended metaphor for the emerging Renaissance Humanism period. This period was defined by choice and analysis of events, and is emulated through Hamlet s alliterated statement in his soliloquy in Scene 3, Act 1, conscience makes cowards of us all. Hamlet believes he is in a psychological state of cowardice, and that his conscience is holding him back through his assessment of the consequences of acting on the orders of the ghost. L.C. Knight believes Hamlet is the exploration and implicit criticism of a particular state of mind or consciousness . This questioning on the theme of humanity and the final stage in Hamlet s complex thought process is finally resolved in the soliloquy in Scene 4, Act 3.
