How Did English Colonization Affect Canada
discovered various features in North America such as: The Great Lakes, Quebec, and New York.
The French established settlements in these areas and their impact is very evident on Canada and
North America today. Exploration also allowed the French to interact with Native American tribes
in those regions in good ways and bad ways. This interaction benefited Native Americans in good
ways because it began healthy trade between the French and them. Additionally, French trade gave
Native Americans access to guns and other goods that the Native Americans didn t have. This
would change the dynamic of war amongst Native Americans forever. On the other hand, French
interaction with Native Americans was bad for the native tribes because the French made... Show

English colonization focused on religion and economy. Ever since the religious revolt against the
Catholics, staged by Martin Luther in the 16th century, there were many religions formed which
believed they had divine revelation from God. England was a land that was rich with religion and
unlike the French and Spanish, they were not Catholic. There were many Protestants who resided
in England during colonization. So, according to Early American History to 1877, to zealous
English Protestants, a colony in America would offer a bulwark against Catholic Spain and France.
The English wanted to get a religious foothold in America so that all inhabitants in America
wouldn t be tainted with Catholic beliefs. In addition, to England, a colony in America offered vast
economic trade. Therefore England tried to establish colonies early on with Jamestown and the
Roanoke Colony, but neither succeeded. They experienced hunger and hostility from the Indians
and eventually had to leave. But, the English were able to rebound. They benefited immensely
from tobacco and learned how to survive in the New World. So their objective of taking advantage
of the economy of the New World and establishing Protestant colonies was

Jean Kilbourne Two Ways A Woman Can Get Hurt Analysis
For many years now, the primary medium for advertisements has been television. A majority of
society has access to a TV, and because of this reality, producers promote their products via this
media outlet. However, are these companies just trying to sell their products? or they also
advocate their personal agendas upon the masses. Throughout history, the various media channels
have influenced society to believe or accept twisted fallacies. For instance, we assume that crime
and violence are running rampant because the News primarily covers violent and criminal
activities. However, the reality is crime and violence has been on a steep decline since the 1990 s.
Still, the optimal way these shows receive good ratings and views is through headlining... Show

the author, Jean Kilbourne, EdD, states that, Sex in advertising is pornographic because it
dehumanizes and objectifies people, especially women, and because it fetisheizes products,
imbues them with an erotic charge... (491). Kilbourne also believes the sexualization of ads
promotes violence against women; she presents the example of an Italian Vogue ad, which
displayed a man pointing a gun at a naked woman wrapped in plastic, and a purse covering her
face (497). I believe if Kilbourne were to view and respond to the Victoria s Secret, she might say
the commercial, demoralizes and objectifies women, focus heavily on sexual intimacy rather than
emotional, and promotes a sense violence against women. Additionally, in the essay, From
Multicultural Barbie and the Merchandising of Difference, the author, Ann DuCille, a former chair
and director of the center for African American Studies at Wesleyan University, discussed that the
multicultural Barbie, though created to encourage diversity and racial awareness of other cultures
and ethnicities, it promotes racism by excluding true cultural and ethnic characteristics from each
multicultural Barbie (859). She further explains that doll advocates an ideal body image of,
mythically thin, long legged, luxuriously haired, buxom beauty... which in turn might result in
younger girls trying to mimic the Barbie lifestyle or image rather than, being at peace with their
own self. Not to mention the fact the multicultural Barbies are simply white dolls with different
shades of color, and exclude cultural character traits (861). I believe if DuCille saw the Victoria s
Secret ad, she would feel the ad excludes a good representation of all ethnicities, because
throughout the entire advertisement there was only one African American model, but she was only
shown for a mere two seconds. And DuCille might feel the perfect , tall, petite, and caucasian
females encourage a practicable standard for

Forensic Technician
Mokokoma Mokhonoana once said, Science gave us forensics. Law gave us crime. Forensic
science has been used since the late 1700 s to determine the guilt or innocence in major criminal
cases by comparing the similarities in DNA. Fingerprinting dates back thousands of years to when
the Chinese used it to identify business documents. I want to become a forensic technician because
I have always been fascinated by crimeshows like CSI and Criminal Minds. I know actually
working as a forensic technician will be nothing like it is in the shows but it is still interesting to
be able to have an impact on the community by solving things like a puzzle. Forensic technicians

Reflection Paper On Teaching A Lesson
I prepared for these lessons first by thinking carefully over how I was going to teach a specific
concept and what I was going to need. I did this several days before I actually began teaching the
concepts. Each day I found the items I would need for that day s lesson and had it in an easily
accessible place. Since this was my first week teaching I did not have previous experience to go
off of from this class. However, I did have an understanding that preparation is key because of
previous experiences giving instruction and not being prepared by thinking out exactly how I
would go about teaching the lesson.
Depending on the day I had different sets. On Monday, I created a picture graph for the students to
work with about the student s favorite sport. I believe this was an effective set because it got the
students moving and excited about sharing while learning something new. On Tuesday, I did not
really have a set. Because it was a test day I jumped right into reviewing what was learned
through the last few lessons. On Wednesday, I almost had a set, but since it was not using
interactive material, it failed to grab the attention as much as I had wanted. On Thursday, I used a
story for my set and felt that because I was having the students interact with the book by giving
answers, it captured their attention and interest. On Friday, I had the students talk about their
favorite animals. This was a good beginning to a set but after the fact, I felt as if I should have

Censorship In Motion Picture Association Of America
The control of what people may say, hear write read see and/or do, is the definition or censorship.
There is censorship in movies, books, music, speeches, and much more. A lot of people agree that
we should keep certain censorships. Other people believe we should get rid of certain censorship.
There is more to learn about censorship and the different views on it.
Movie ratings is a version of censorship. Movies are censored so that parents know the content
they may or may not is okay with showing their children. Movie ratings are assigned by Motion
Picture Association of Americaor MPAA. There is a history on how it was created, who created it,
the different views on the movie rating system as well as if we need it.

MPAA is the one that gives the movies their ratings. They consider, what they believe parents will
look for when watching a movie for their child.
To begin with, there are reasons why we shouldn t have them. Many blogs express them is many
ways. One blogger says, People have different tastes, find different things. No group of people has
the right to tell a rather group of people what they are and are not allowed to do experience. In
other words, the blogger (Nicholas Ransbottom) means that the MPAA shouldn t have the power
they do. It should be the movie makers that have that power. The one that knows the movie of the
film.
However, while there are blogs as to why we shouldn t have movie rating, there are blogs as to why
should keep them. This blogger says, The system represents the different views of Americans across
the country, it shows/informs the watchers the content and things that may not be. This means that
MPAA takes into consideration the different views and what parents look

Why Is It Important To Build Roman Buildings
Roman buildings were based on the Greeks architectural orders, the Doric, Ionic and Corinthian. In
additional to those they added one of their own, the Composite, which practically was a
combination of the Ionic and the Corinthian order. Although Romans didn t invent the wheel; they
invented something almost equally important, the concrete. The new material spread so fast and
took the leading position in the way buildings were constructed.
The innovation of concrete really transformed the appearance of their buildings. Its basic
component the pozzolana, a volcanic element was in abundance around Rome and not only made
concrete stronger than marble it could be easily decorated.(The Romans,n.d,par.2) Along with
concrete they used bricks to make buildings more solid and stones in various shapes to give an
aesthetic view to the buildings. But ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The arch allowed Romans to build larger and more varied buildings.
ROMAN ARCHITECTURE 3
Almost every Roman building included arches, but those can be seen in other places as well, at the
Colosseum, in aqueducts, at temples etc. They constructed circular temples as the Pantheon, or the
famous baths of Caraccala.
Triumph arches that had only a single or a double entrance had no other function than to celebrate
significant events like a military victory. (Cartwright, 2013)
Since its introduction, the arch applied to almost all future empires and all civilizations. The
Roman architecture influenced many nations and many monuments were designed in the same way
as the ones of the Roman period. Concrete and arch changed the way of construction and had an
impact on architecture in all over the world. That was the Roman legacy and it is no surprise that
Roman buildings are still standing in our time and treated with

My Experience At The Niagara Falls
We had never been out of the country before, and we couldn t wait for the first time. The day I
woke up in my dad s old room at my grandparents house, I didn t wake up with the excitement I
thought I would. Instead, I lay in the bed and stared groggily at the ceiling. It was one of those
days when getting out of bed doesn t even feel like an option. I hadn t even remembered about
where we were going. The sound of water running in the bathroom across the hall carried into the
room, and that s when I noticed the strip of light peeking through the crack in the door,
occasionally interrupted by someone walking past. But it was too early in the morning for this

they followed, they disappeared behind a cluster of trees and reappeared on the other side. Two
white and brown dogs came up from behind the elephants and ran into the water with small
splashes and doggy paddled to the grass on the edge of the water that sat snug against the fence.
Then the elephants stormed in. Waves of water splashed forward as they swam across the water.
They filled their trunks with water and squirted it out onto their backs. Baby elephants even
ducked their heads under water! They started to make their way towards the crowd, and whether
or not we said it out loud, we were all thinking the same thing: were the elephants going to splash
up to us? They then slowed to a stop, treading in one spot. And it was a good thing too, because if
they came any closer we would have been soaked by the mist of green and brown pond water
squirting from the trunk of one of the largest elephants!

Coping with Anxiety
Literature review
In 2013, associate professor of psychology at the University of California, Kate Sweeny and her
researchers surveyed 230 law school graduates for a period of four months after taking their bar
exam in July 2013 ( J. Hoffman, 2015). The purpose of her research was to focus on the waiting
period during which the person is uncertain of the outcome of a life situation and how they manage
any anxiety that may occur during that time. The individuals that were surveyed in this descriptive
research used three different strategies when asked about how they tried to avoid anxiety while
waiting on their exam scores. The first group attempted to suppress their fears by trying to not pay
attention. The second group sought for silver linings. They tried to anticipate something good in a
bad outcome Dr. Sweeny explained. The third group used defensive pessimism.
At the end of Dr. Sweeny s research study what came up is that the people that were calmed
down during the waiting period were shattered and paralyzed by the bad news and if they got
good news, they were not impress by the results (Dr. Sweeny, 2015). The people who were not
doing well during the waiting period actually handled the news much better than the previous set
of people. If they received bad news then they were ready for it and had

Identity In Chopin s The Awakening
Chopin s work has allowed her to become recognized more over time. As women keep gaining
rights, so are Chopin s works of literature acquiring literary attention. Chopin realized that people
valued morality, especially when it came to things such as adultery and the marital discord
caused by such, so she decided to use those two items to try and deliver a message concerning an
overarching patriarchy that set into motion internal strife for stereotypically frail individuals and
women alike who had been cornered by the strangling ideology. Chopin uses identity as a main
focal point concerning her philosophy over her search for self and desire to express herself when
being subjugated. Edna serves as a perfect example of Chopin showing the... Show more content on

Edna also exemplifies the impossibility as it pertains to a woman achieving such a dastardly
goal at the time. Edna begins on her journey towards feminine selfhood early in the novel and
while doing so evokes sympathy and understanding. For Edna, It s far easier to see her either as
an innocent victim crushed by a merciless, absolute patriarchy, or as having the last laugh by
ducking out of life s impassable and unfair obstacles (Ramos, Unbearable realism: freedom, ethics
and identity in The Awakening. ). However, Chopin writes thoughtfully and uses Edna s journey
for even more than what Ramos states above and describes it as, an unrestricted, undefined and,
ultimately, impossible state ironically [depriving] her life of meaning (and finally of life itself)
(Ramos, Unbearable realism: freedom, ethics and identity in The Awakening. ). In this way she
delivers the message concerning an overarching patriarchy and its damages by describing Edna as
innocent and crushed by a merciless patriarchy, while also speaking out about the dangers of
valuing self over the other individual s in one s life. Chopin, using Edna from The Awakening,

A Bengali girl named Ashima partakes in a marriage arranged to Ashoke Ganguli. After the
ceremony the new couple left India to move to the United States where Ashoke has started to
build a new life. They were going to face the cultural differences together, as one. For Ashima,
this was difficult. Her new husband had to earn a living to support the two of them so she often
found herself home alone. Not knowing the English language or culture at that became very

cheating on Gogol, ending their marriage. Throughout the whole movie, Gogol is struggling to
find himself and where he belongs. After his failed marriage Gogol realizes that he must be alone
to embrace who he really is. Gogol chooses stays in the U.S. when Ashima makes the decision to
return to her homeland. She offers to stay and help him but Gogol refuses. He insists she return to
India while he lives happier then ever in the U.S. by himself.
The movie The Namesake is an excellent movie when trying to put yourself in someone else s
shoes. It gives you a look at how difficult it is to adjust and live happily in a foreign environment.
Americans normally stereotypically categorize immigrants of particular cultures. Making it
extremely stressful for them to adjust as I learned from this film immigrants come to America for
a better life. Meaning they are willing to change their ways and become an American. Most of us
refuse to give them the time of day, even though they try. I had very little knowledge about Indian
culture and traditions previous to watching this movie. For example I did not realize how young
these women are when taking the step to get married.

the Cree traditions and by Cheecum s wisdom. However, this was weakened by extreme
discrimination and poverty. When Campbell was twelve, her mother died, and that forced her to
quit school and take care of her younger siblings. Campbell then married at the age of fifteen in
order to prevent her brothers and sisters from being placed in an orphanage. Her attempt to keep

There are hybrid switches available today that combine both store and forward and cut through
switching methods. These hybrids are known as runtless or fragment free switches. Fragment free
switches were designed to solve the late collision problem and are primarily used in the backbone
of congested networks. These hybrids check both the source and destination MAC address of a

VLANs
VLANs or Virtual Local Area Networks are logical local area networks that extend beyond the
traditional LAN architecture. Because a VLAN is a logical entity, creating and configuring a
VLAN is done completely in software. The advantages to using this type of LAN include but are

and to better manage the movement of personnel and equipment. To understand the need for
VLANs you must first understand the Local Area Network (LAN). The definition of a LAN

as a single broadcast domain. This is explained easily by looking at a large organization where
each department would be on a separate LAN found behind a router or switch. With today s

This may be an annoyance, but it is easy to understand given the tremendous stress the motor
undergoes when opening and closing these heavy doors. Typically, a failing garage door opener
will make loud grinding sounds due to the internal components rubbing against each other. Also,
it may not be able to smoothly open and close the door. This may lead to it slowing as it is
opened or slamming into the ground when it is closed. If the opener is malfunctioning, it should
be addressed as soon as possible because this type of damage may be progressive, which can
yield sizable repair costs when this repair is delayed. A garage door must have many moving
parts functioning correctly to be able to easily open and close. These doors may experience
sizable issues with either the rollers or the opener, and it is important to be able to spot these
issues. However, you should not attempt either of these repairs on your own. If this work is not

where every social NGO s working for it. Even the culture where everyone lives together now
follows similar merits as in the west. Perhaps the generation gap between the two ultimately
worsens the beauty of relationship of experience and talent. Even all the religions of the world unite
on one cause i.e. to respect the elderly. All of them prohibited to behave badly with parents, not
even allowing speaking in harsh language with them.
There are various reasons that children send their parents to spend their life lonely but the time
when they need us a lot we leave them alone. If they wouldn t bring up so we shall be spending
life in a destructive way. But they taught us, spend a lot of money in our education in our food and
other necessity of life. We can t even repay them but we are adopting western culture. Unclear

Nerve conduction studies are now routine, and can be done in virtually any hospital equipped with
the appropriate machine and staffed with a qualified examiner. The nerve conduction study utilizes
a computer, computer monitor, amplifier, loudspeaker, electrical stimulator, and filters. These
filters are mathematical filters that can distinguish random, background electrical signals from
the signal produced by an activated nerve. When the study is done, small electrodes are placed
on the skin over the muscles being tested. Generally, these muscles are located in the arms or legs.
Some of the electrodes are designed to record the electrical signal that passes by them. Other
electrodes (reference electrodes) are designed to monitor the quality of the signals to make sure
that the test is operating properly. If monitoring of the test is not done, then the results obtained are
meaningless. After the electrodes are in place, a small electrical current can be applied to the skin.
The electrical stimulation is usually done at several points along the nerve, not just at a single
point. This is done because conduction of an impulse through a nerve is not uniform. Some regions
of a nerve conduct more slowly than other regions. By positioning the stimulating electrodes at
several sites, a more accurate overall measurement of conduction velocity is obtained. The electrical
current activates nerves in the

Political Party Viewpoints
Quite often, people are eager to proclaim whether they are a democrat or a republican, yet many of
these people use these political terms because they have been told to, rather than actually resonating
with the beliefs of said political party. Preferably, voters should research issues most important to
them and figure out their own stances, then commit to the political partywith the most similar
viewpoint by examining the party s platform from a reliable source. Political parties are voluntary,
organized groups of people with similar political aims and opinions who work to influence public
policy through their candidate running and hopefully being elected to public office. The

The Republican Party calls themselves pro life but once the baby has been born, it is up to the
family to fund everything for that child, from their basic needs to their potential college education.
The lack of social programs does not improve quality of life and it is bothersome that people who
call themselves pro life will not support programs like welfare, food stamps, and housing
assistance. The lack of funding for these programs causes many people to hurt financially. This
also flaws the Republican idea of how to fix the national debt. The Republicans believe that trickle
down economics work and that the people will spend their money on American goods to help
stimulate the U.S. economy. The problem with that theory is when people do not have the money
to provide for their basic needs, they will most definitely not be spending money on simple desires

New Labour Thatcherism Similarities
For many, New Labour possessed an abundance of similarities to the Conservative governments
previous to it, in particular the 1979 1990 party led by Margret Thatcher. These similarities are
evident in their continuation of Conservative policies and their abandonment of Labour policies
that were previously inherent to the party. It is important to note that I have interpreted warmed up
as a term describing New Labour s less confrontational style of governance in comparison to that of
Thatcher. This essay will be arguing that New Labour was more than warmed up Thatcherism, in
fact, they posed as an advancer of Thatcherism through their continuation of Thatcherite policies
and their decision to build upon them. To evaluate this point, it is necessary to define the origins of
both New Labour and Thatcherism. The 1997... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Relational Database Management System ( Rdbms )
Abstract:
In Nowadays, there are two major of database management systems which are use to deal with
data, the first one called Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) which is the
traditional relational databases, it deals with structured data and have been popular since decades
since 1970, while the second one called Not only Structure Query Language databases (NoSQL),
they are dealing with semi structured and unstructured data; the NoSQL types are gaining their
popularity with the development of the internet and the social media since April 2009. NoSQL
are intending to override the cons of RDBMs, such as fixed schemas, JOIN operations and
handling the scalability problems. In this paper we will review one of the graph database (Neo4j),
which the graph database is part of the emerging technology that is called NoSQL and compared
it with one of the traditional relational database (MySQL). MySQL, it is being another name for
Relational Databases and it has been used for a long period time until now. However, with the
emergence of Big Data there was clearly a need for more flexible databases. Facebook s Graph
Search using Neo4j, a graph database, is an application which clearly displays how relationships
need to be modeled in a more efficient and sophisticated manner than using conventional relational
models. In this paper, we will make a compare between MySQL and Neo4j based on the features
like ACID, replication, availability and the language that is used in both of

Existentialism and the Power and the Glory
Traditionally, Christian literary works are set in an idealized Christian reality, based upon
values sourced from scripture. In this reality, the Deus ex Machina is strictly literal, admitting at
any needed time a supernatural element to the story which, in all functionality, serves as
miracle, in either pivot of the plot or in character arc. It s a clichГ© of storytelling that has
become heavily condescended by readers and critics because it leaves little challenge,
application, or relation to both the characters in the story and the impact it makes on the
audience. They re experiences that a normal individual could never expect to have, leading many
to frustration and confusion. Graham Greene plants The Power and the Glory firmly in reality,
and while we still may find his character s experiences outside of likelihood in context of our
own, they remain realistic. They doubt God for good reason, and for the same reason they
believe. Their inner struggles are complex and anchored with honesty. The easy path is not taken
here. The Power and the Glory is set in revolutionary Mexico, in a time of persecution and political
turmoil. Poverty and crime is rampant, common liberties are threatened, and the hearts of everyone
are heavy. The transgressions Greene s characters experience already exceed most of our own,
helping us see our common struggles in a more legitimate, harsh light. They more than ever have
reason to be discouraged, and anything that can turn their calloused

One of the most important things during the process of interviewing the potential candidate for

something that can be proven by observation from cause to effect. An inference is something that is

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in the United States alone, about
one in every thirty three babies is born with a birth defect including special needs disorders (

The ways in which children learn and their ability to retain knowledge varies considerably,
especially when a child struggles with special needs. The Federal special educationlaw established
in 1975 in the Education for All Handicapped Children Act and then continued through a series of

While disabled students are learning the same curriculum as the regular based learners, they
may struggle and fall behind, as they may not be able to keep up with the work. This can hurt
the disabled child solely because their self confidence can drop and result in them feeling left
out. Disabled learners typically will require extra help and instruction. This can hurt the class as
a whole because the amount of time spent on one concept, can take up too much time and in the
end affect the amount of material covered within a given time period. Even though a child may
be pulled out into a resource room for extra help, they are still delaying the classroom pace which
is ultimately a huge academic disadvantage (Foust, Kathy). Tolerance may be taught in the
inclusive classroom setting, but it does not always have a positive outcome. Students with special
needs may receive special privileges, where as a regular learner may see it as unfair. A child may
feel as though disabled students get away with a lot more since they have a disability. This can lead
to other students in the class acting out in hopes of receiving special treatment as well. It can also
lead to resentment and cause conflict in the traditional classroom (Lawrence,

cruisers, destroyers, submarines, and auxiliaries were based at this Gibraltar of the Pacific. All
U.S. aircraft carriers were elsewhere. On November 26 a Japanese task force, consisting of 6
carriers, 2 battleships, 3 cruisers, and several destroyers and tankers under command of Vice
Adm. Chuichi Nagumo, departed in secret from the Kuril Islands. Observing radio silence, it
reached a launching point at 6 AM, December 7. At 7:50 AM, the first wave of Japanese planes
struck Pearl Harbour, bombarding airfields and battleships moored at the concrete quays. A
second wave followed. The surprise attack was over before 10 AM. The results were
devastating; 18 U.S. ships were hit, and more than 200 aircraft destroyed or damaged. The
battleship Arizona was a total wreck; the West Virginia and California were sunk; and the
Nevada was heavily damaged. Approximately 2,400 Americans were killed, 1,300 wounded, and
1,000 missing. Japanese losses were fewer than 100 casualties, 29 planes, and 5 midget
submarines. The Japanese scored a brilliant tactical victory, apparently crippling U.S. naval power
in the Pacific. The attack was, however, a colossal political and psychological blunder, for it
mobilised U.S. public opinion against the Japanese and served as the catalyst that brought the
United States into the war. December 7, 1941, said President Franklin D.

Between Wishes and Beliefs in Wild Grapes
In Wild Grapes, Robert Frost demonstrates the complex thoughts and struggles of a woman who
lives her life, wishing that she had gained a knowledge that would have made her life different. At
the same time, she hopes to preserve the exhilarating way she lives her life. Through the use of
character portrayal, metaphor, symbolism, and diction, Robert Frost suggests to the reader that
although people know that they should prepare themselves to walk through life, they still listen to
their hearts, which causes them to be unprepared for what lies ahead of them. The poem starts with
the woman telling a story from her youth, which is engraved traumatically in her mind. ... Show

Comparing herself with her brother, she characterizes herself as a tomboy who is fond of
adventure. However, on the day that she hangs on the tree, she realizes her lack of knowledge, in
comparison to her brother, and she shows her fear of facing the reality of life. Frost uses
character portrayal to illustrate the differences between their characters. Like Eurydice in Greek
mythology, whose husband came back to save her, the little girl is saved by her brother from the
tree where she is suspended. Frost captures the idea that she is no longer an adventurer, and that
leads the reader to notice that she is facing reality.
Then Frost develops their characters making clear contrasts: the one who always knows about
things and makes a decision following the knowledge and the one who is always led by the
other, follows his knowledge, and gets confused in the process. Frost describes that the glade
where the grape tree stands is the place that her brother already knew, and he leads her to the
place. This introduces to the reader that he knows about the thing before he does it while she just
follows what he does. Next, Frost describes, My brother did the climbing; and at first for in sweet

The Traditional Parental Figure In The Power Of One By...
Everyone has, whether it s a parent, grandparent, or older sibling, a person in their life who
influenced them to the point of changing. In The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay, Peekay
lacks the traditional parental figure that most people have, and instead crosses paths with many
different influential people over the course of the book. This put Peekay at an advantage
because he was able to see the world through different perspectives, the perspectives of those who
mentored him. He learned from people of all walks of life, which led to him being unbiased and
open minded. Peekay also was at an advantage because he had to learn to think for himself. His
mentors helped him with this, but the lack of a true parentforced him to learn this early on and
master it by time he was older. Finally, each of Peekay s mentors had something different to offer,
a different key piece of advice, that gave him a set of morals to live by. Thus, his lack of a
traditional parental figure facilitated his maturity and helped him to obtain the power of one. Peekay
was mentored by people from all different walks of life, which resulted in him being a very
unprejudiced and unbiased character, even at a young age. Peekay was mentored by a white
librarian, a mixed prisoner, a middle aged professional boxer, and an old german professor. None
of these people had anything in common except for their love and concern for Peekay. Peekay saw
each of them for their hearts and character, not their race.

In 1905 the United States of America hit an incredible milestone. The first pizzeria was opened

was first created in Naples, as an inexpensive food for un wealthy common folks. It started out as
flatbreads topped with assorted fixings like cheese, oil, tomatoes, and garlic. Pizza has evolved
over time into what we know it as today. Popular toppings on the common American pizza are

This method is carried out in different rounds, where one pizza topping will be dropped after
each round. The pizza topping that has the fewest first place votes gets eliminated. When there
are only two pizza toppings remaining the topping with the most first place votes is the winner
of plurality with elimination. I created a table to show the results of the different rounds. The
table is similar to the preference chart, but the rows are only showing the first place selections. It
is important to understand that whenever a pizza topping gets eliminated it is taken out of the
order. The pizza topping that was directly below the one that got eliminated will move up in the
order. For example, the first round bacon got the least amount of first place votes. Therefore,
bacon was eliminated and anything below bacon was moved up in ranking. So if the order was
bacon, sausage, pepperoni, cheese, then veggie the order would change to sausage, pepperoni,
cheese, then veggie to accommodate the fact that bacon was eliminated. Looking at the second
round on the chart, the orders changed significantly as well as the scores. In the second round,
veggie got eliminated leaving pepperoni, sausage, and cheese still in the running. In the third and
final round pepperoni was eliminated. The pizza topping that had the most first place votes after

The Importance Of Agent Learning
Given an MDP, the total reward in future may be computed as R = r1 + r2 + .... rn
But, future rewards are uncertain and needs to be discounted to ascertain their present value as:
R = rt+1 + rt+2 + ... rt+n = rt + ЙЈ *rt+1 + .... + ЙЈ(n t) *rn, where discount factor ЙЈ is in the
range of [0, 1]
The agent learning is primarily based on maximizing discounted value of all future rewards.
Owing to the uncertainty in future, estimation of this value for agent learning is not easy. A
popular approach is to use Q learning which is described next. ii. Q learning
Q learning works by letting the agent to choose an action in a given state by following a particular
behaviour policy. In choosing a subsequent state, the agent evaluates alternate actions through ...

Estimation of the Q values for the agent may be considered analogous to building the agent s brain
to gain an understanding of its environment. It may be noted that the initial estimations of
maximum value of being in a state s for action a
PAGE 19 could be completely wrong and it might take quite a large number of iterations to get
these estimations right. A proven effective way to make these estimations is the use of neural
network. The milestone in this regard was the use of Deep Q network by Deepmind for the
AlphaGo win. Before enumerating their work, it would be good to dissect the scale of the
problem to appreciate the need for Q learning. In the game, Deepmind captured last 4 screens of
the game from the computer monitor, resized to 84 x 84 pixels and converted to
256 gray levels. This leads to 25684 x 84 x 256 = approx. 1067970 combinations or possible
game states that outnumber the number of atoms in the universe. It is highly likely that this data
when stored is highly sparse and many of the states may never be visited. Above all, it might take
ages to converge and we would definitely want to have a finding during our good times!
This motivates the use of deep learning for Q learning, popularly known as Deep Qlearning.
This model free reinforcement learning approach involves executing several MDPs to learn the best
policy. It involves making state transitions to maximize future returns and discounting them to
present value to ascertain the current

District 9 Essay
In 2005 Neil Blomkamp made a short film named Alice in Joburg, 4 years later he released the
movie District 9 based on the short. The director Neil Blomkamp has told reporters that District 9
was inspired by historical events when Cape Town was declared a whites only area and 60,000
people were forcibly removed (Newsweek, 2016). This theme of acceptance is carried throughout
the film via the narratives, soundtracks, and cinematography. The film District 9, shows how
acceptance is extremely versatile and fragile. This is accomplished through cinematography,
narrative, and the way that Neil Blomkamp has being able to symbolize Wikus Merwe as a very
likable and friendly person. District 9 uses film techniques frequently and efficiently to broadcast...

This is reflected by the wider community who for the last 20 years have put up with the aliens.
Now being hunted Wikus turns to the aliens for help, this completely changes how acceptance is
viewed in the movie. Neil adds onto the theme of acceptance with short scenes/clips from the
documentary style with audio dubbing over (in past tense) saying how everyone was sorry they
had shunned him out of their life s. On top of the audio, clips similar to TV news where shown
from the minority point of view dubbing him as a traitor and alien sympathiser.
Up until the time when Wikus goes to the aliens for help the constant cinematic documentary style
is very similar style around the world. The scenes are shot in a manner very similar to the filming
of refugees, this can be seen in the image below (figure 2) demonstrating the similar traits from the
real world and the film. High angles are used to show the immensity and scale of the refugees
/aliens, similarly low angels are used to show the insignificant and frailness of the occupants. These
sub noticeable cinematic effects add onto the theme of acceptance, showing how acceptance is

The Caribbean And The Slave Trade In The Caribbean
The Ottoman Empires blockage of the once popular trade route to the east, led to the exploration of
the America s. In the late 15th century, with the European s goal to find a new trading route, the
Portuguese, with their strong maritime power, were the first to venture out. Not only was the
establishment of a new trade route crucial, but so was the discovery of resources to exploit for
European gain. Land empires formed, bringing about the enslavement of native populations, and
control of production and labor. No more was this evident than in the CaribbeanIslands. Small but
crucial assets to Europe, why did the Caribbean islands have such a big impact on the slave trade?
Many European countries had colonized several regions in North and South America, yet there
was something about the Caribbean s that made them indispensable to their respective economies.
The politics in Europe, the Caribbean s fertile soil, and its demographics were key factors in the
Caribbean s importance. All three factors were essential in the Caribbean becoming a staple in the
slave trade.
The world capitalist system emerged when Europe became the hub of trade which was made
possible by the fortunes they amassed through colonization. Having just begun to develop into a
world hegemonic power through trade, credit and market systems, Europeans organized largescale
agricultural plantations in the Caribbean s. The power and force that was exerted between
European powers, particularly in the America s

Role Of Companionship In Frankenstein
Though the creation shows his feelings similar to humans, he also strives for companionship. The
creature obtains the need to find companionship through another creature and the De Lacey family
because he feels isolated from the world. When trying to visit the De Lacey family for the first
time, the creature points out, I persuaded myself that when they should become acquainted with
my admiration of their virtues, they would compassionate me, and overlook my personal
deformity (Shelley 111). Similarly, the creation also decided to confront Victor. His prideful
creator who abandons him, and discusses his isolation when the creature declares, I am alone, and

Assessing India s Mobile Number Portability
India has more than 900 million mobile connections.
To assess the MNP it is of paramount importance to understand the psyche of the Indian consumer.
More than 95% mobile subscribers are prepaid, reflecting a price sensitive consumer. This in
conjunction with aggressive price competition has led to a high churn rate. Under these
circumstances MNP should be high in demand. But contrary to this in the first 12 months after
MNP implementation in 2011, only 5% of the churning customers preferred to take benefit of MNP,
clearly indicating lower affinity for the same number.
This trend could be attributed to several factors. Subscribers in India lack the patience to wait a
week for while the porting procedure is completed. On the other hand the prominence of free
SIM cards, instantly available at every nook and corner, has very much reduced consumer s
apprehension of letting go of the number. Growth in Multi Sim card devices has also helped
consumers to hold on to the previous numbers while going in for a new cheaper alternative. What
did not help is the discretion used by the operators in many cases to reject porting applications. In
such a high churn market, the 90 day waiting period between two porting applications restricts the
free movement of subscribers, who are always on the lookout for the cheapest telecom plan. MNP
hasn t been without its share of controversies. TRAI has had to file litigations against three telecom
companies on the ground of not disclosing to the

Economic Systems And Economic System
An economic system governs how a society s resources are allocated between people, and so the
question of its morality is immensely important (Winfield, et al, 2014). This essay will analyse the
different economic systems by considering the two economic systems that fall on the extreme ends
of the spectrum of economic systems, these being capitalismand socialism. It will further discuss the
characteristics of each of these economic systems and based on these, argue that the mixed
economy is the best alternative economic system. The forms of regulations that create efficiencies
and those that create inefficiencies will be argued for and the importance and benefits of these
regulations will be analysed. .
A capitalist economic system is one that is predominantly characterised by free markets, private
ownership and limited government intervention. Free markets are commonly known for their
ability to achieve economic efficiency primarily through the volunteer nature of exchange and the
existence of competition amongst producers (Winfield, et al, 2014). Adam Smith believed that the
goal of every economic system should be to achieve economic efficiency through the mechanisms
of productive and allocative efficiency. Productive efficiency can be defined as producing goods
and services for the lowest cost while allocative efficiency is more concerned with the distribution
and allocation of resources in the economy to where they are valued most and can attain maximum
satisfaction for

Valerie Merz, marketingmanager for IntensCare, was feeling enormous pressure as she reviewed

of the systems.
4. Once these specifications were finalized, they were passed on to the production group, which
arranged for the fabrication assembly of the products.
In August 2008, Beaumont introduced a new parallel system for product development in which a
core team of people assembled from all the critical functions R D, Marketing
Sales, Product Engineering, Software Design, Regulatory, and Production worked together
continuously to move a product from conceptual stage to final production. For every core team, a
project leader was designated to orchestrate its work, keep an eye on the complete project, secure
resources for the team, and serve as a liaison to senior management. Beaumont believed that the

Analysis Of A Crucible Of Reform Movement
Abbi Sullins
Mrs. Nix
AP US History

Born to Create Change
Louisa May Alcott was in every way born to become a reformist. It is even said that [a]s an adult,
Louisa May sometimes signed her letters, Yours for reforms of all kinds (Concord Women Cast
First Votes). Growing up in early nineteenth century Massachusetts, a crucible of reform
movements, to parents who were both incredibly dedicated to reformation, she was exposed to
many different reform movements throughout the entirety of her life. While her immense success
as an author would ultimately overshadow her devout work for women s rights, she is still to be
considered an essential pioneer for the women s right to vote in Concord.

Abby Alcott, Louisa s mother, was a highly educated young woman, rare for her time, but like
her husband, made poor decisions that would ultimately hurt the family s well being severely.
Abby worked as a nurse for families living in poverty, who could not afford health care from paid
doctors. However, Mrs. Alcott was very careless about her nursing and never bothered to ask
what she was treating. Her carelessness caused her to bring home smallpox and scarlet fever to
her husband and four daughters. The Scarlett fever Abby brought home would eventually lead to
the death of one of her daughters, Beth (Steven 112). Her parent s financial carelessness lead her
to beg[in] writing to make money for her mother and three sisters (DeSalle). Louisa also at one
point in her childhood vowed that she would one day become rich so she could provide for her
family, in the way her father had not.
Aside from their careless errors, the Abby and Bronson Alcott relentlessly fought for what they
believed in. The Alcott s were

The Supreme Court Case Loving V. Virginia
On June 2, 1958 Mildred Jeter and Richard Loving went to Washington D.C. to get married and
they went back to Virginia a few days later. But because Mildred was of African American and
Native American decent, and Richard was white they were arrested for violating the state law that
prohibits interracial marriage. At the time, Virginia was one of 17 states, including Texas and
Alabama, that had laws prohibiting interracial marriage (Wolfe). The Supreme Court Case Loving
v. Virginiais an important of part of American history that has had a huge impact on racial equality
and has helped change the definition of marriage in the United Statesforever.
After their arrest, Richard was released after only one night with a $1000 bond. Mildred was
released a few days later into the care of her father. In the trial in October 1958, they pleaded not
guilty and waived a jury trial. However, they changed their pleas to guilty at the end of their
arguments. and on January 6, 1959 they were sentenced to one year in prison (Wolfe). However,
Judge Leon Bazile suspended the sentence under the condition that they do not return to the state
together for 25 years. The sentence allowed them to return individually (Wolfe). So they paid
their court fees of $36.29 each and they lived to Washington D.C. to live with Mildred s cousin
and his wife, but they still wanted to move back to Virginia so they could be with their families
(Martin). In 1963 Mildred wrote a letter to Robert F. Kennedy, a U.S.

  • 2. How Did English Colonization Affect Canada discovered various features in North America such as: The Great Lakes, Quebec, and New York. The French established settlements in these areas and their impact is very evident on Canada and North America today. Exploration also allowed the French to interact with Native American tribes in those regions in good ways and bad ways. This interaction benefited Native Americans in good ways because it began healthy trade between the French and them. Additionally, French trade gave Native Americans access to guns and other goods that the Native Americans didn t have. This would change the dynamic of war amongst Native Americans forever. On the other hand, French interaction with Native Americans was bad for the native tribes because the French made... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... English colonization focused on religion and economy. Ever since the religious revolt against the Catholics, staged by Martin Luther in the 16th century, there were many religions formed which believed they had divine revelation from God. England was a land that was rich with religion and unlike the French and Spanish, they were not Catholic. There were many Protestants who resided in England during colonization. So, according to Early American History to 1877, to zealous English Protestants, a colony in America would offer a bulwark against Catholic Spain and France. The English wanted to get a religious foothold in America so that all inhabitants in America wouldn t be tainted with Catholic beliefs. In addition, to England, a colony in America offered vast economic trade. Therefore England tried to establish colonies early on with Jamestown and the Roanoke Colony, but neither succeeded. They experienced hunger and hostility from the Indians and eventually had to leave. But, the English were able to rebound. They benefited immensely from tobacco and learned how to survive in the New World. So their objective of taking advantage of the economy of the New World and establishing Protestant colonies was ... • 3. Jean Kilbourne Two Ways A Woman Can Get Hurt Analysis For many years now, the primary medium for advertisements has been television. A majority of society has access to a TV, and because of this reality, producers promote their products via this media outlet. However, are these companies just trying to sell their products? or they also advocate their personal agendas upon the masses. Throughout history, the various media channels have influenced society to believe or accept twisted fallacies. For instance, we assume that crime and violence are running rampant because the News primarily covers violent and criminal activities. However, the reality is crime and violence has been on a steep decline since the 1990 s. Still, the optimal way these shows receive good ratings and views is through headlining... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... the author, Jean Kilbourne, EdD, states that, Sex in advertising is pornographic because it dehumanizes and objectifies people, especially women, and because it fetisheizes products, imbues them with an erotic charge... (491). Kilbourne also believes the sexualization of ads promotes violence against women; she presents the example of an Italian Vogue ad, which displayed a man pointing a gun at a naked woman wrapped in plastic, and a purse covering her face (497). I believe if Kilbourne were to view and respond to the Victoria s Secret, she might say the commercial, demoralizes and objectifies women, focus heavily on sexual intimacy rather than emotional, and promotes a sense violence against women. Additionally, in the essay, From Multicultural Barbie and the Merchandising of Difference, the author, Ann DuCille, a former chair and director of the center for African American Studies at Wesleyan University, discussed that the multicultural Barbie, though created to encourage diversity and racial awareness of other cultures and ethnicities, it promotes racism by excluding true cultural and ethnic characteristics from each multicultural Barbie (859). She further explains that doll advocates an ideal body image of, mythically thin, long legged, luxuriously haired, buxom beauty... which in turn might result in younger girls trying to mimic the Barbie lifestyle or image rather than, being at peace with their own self. Not to mention the fact the multicultural Barbies are simply white dolls with different shades of color, and exclude cultural character traits (861). I believe if DuCille saw the Victoria s Secret ad, she would feel the ad excludes a good representation of all ethnicities, because throughout the entire advertisement there was only one African American model, but she was only shown for a mere two seconds. And DuCille might feel the perfect , tall, petite, and caucasian females encourage a practicable standard for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Forensic Technician Mokokoma Mokhonoana once said, Science gave us forensics. Law gave us crime. Forensic science has been used since the late 1700 s to determine the guilt or innocence in major criminal cases by comparing the similarities in DNA. Fingerprinting dates back thousands of years to when the Chinese used it to identify business documents. I want to become a forensic technician because I have always been fascinated by crimeshows like CSI and Criminal Minds. • 5. Reflection Paper On Teaching A Lesson I prepared for these lessons first by thinking carefully over how I was going to teach a specific concept and what I was going to need. I did this several days before I actually began teaching the concepts. Each day I found the items I would need for that day s lesson and had it in an easily accessible place. Since this was my first week teaching I did not have previous experience to go off of from this class. However, I did have an understanding that preparation is key because of previous experiences giving instruction and not being prepared by thinking out exactly how I would go about teaching the lesson. Depending on the day I had different sets. On Monday, I created a picture graph for the students to work with about the student s favorite sport. I believe this was an effective set because it got the students moving and excited about sharing while learning something new. On Tuesday, I did not really have a set. Because it was a test day I jumped right into reviewing what was learned through the last few lessons. On Wednesday, I almost had a set, but since it was not using interactive material, it failed to grab the attention as much as I had wanted. On Thursday, I used a story for my set and felt that because I was having the students interact with the book by giving answers, it captured their attention and interest. On Friday, I had the students talk about their favorite animals. This was a good beginning to a set but after the fact, I felt as if I should have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Why Is It Important To Build Roman Buildings Roman buildings were based on the Greeks architectural orders, the Doric, Ionic and Corinthian. In additional to those they added one of their own, the Composite, which practically was a combination of the Ionic and the Corinthian order. Although Romans didn t invent the wheel; they invented something almost equally important, the concrete. The new material spread so fast and took the leading position in the way buildings were constructed. The innovation of concrete really transformed the appearance of their buildings. Its basic component the pozzolana, a volcanic element was in abundance around Rome and not only made concrete stronger than marble it could be easily decorated.(The Romans,n.d,par.2) Along with concrete they used bricks to make buildings more solid and stones in various shapes to give an aesthetic view to the buildings. ROMAN ARCHITECTURE 3 Almost every Roman building included arches, but those can be seen in other places as well, at the Colosseum, in aqueducts, at temples etc. They constructed circular temples as the Pantheon, or the famous baths of Caraccala. Triumph arches that had only a single or a double entrance had no other function than to celebrate significant events like a military victory. (Cartwright, 2013) Since its introduction, the arch applied to almost all future empires and all civilizations. The Roman architecture influenced many nations and many monuments were designed in the same way as the ones of the Roman period. Concrete and arch changed the way of construction and had an impact on architecture in all over the world. That was the Roman legacy and it is no surprise that Roman buildings are still standing in our time and treated with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The day I woke up in my dad s old room at my grandparents house, I didn t wake up with the excitement I thought I would. Instead, I lay in the bed and stared groggily at the ceiling. It was one of those days when getting out of bed doesn t even feel like an option. I hadn t even remembered about where we were going. The sound of water running in the bathroom across the hall carried into the room, and that s when I noticed the strip of light peeking through the crack in the door, occasionally interrupted by someone walking past. Then the elephants stormed in. Waves of water splashed forward as they swam across the water. They filled their trunks with water and squirted it out onto their backs. Baby elephants even ducked their heads under water! They started to make their way towards the crowd, and whether or not we said it out loud, we were all thinking the same thing: were the elephants going to splash up to us? • 10. Coping With Anxiety And Anxiety Coping with Anxiety. Nicorelys Rodriguez. PSY 100 / 1700. Prof. Beryl Duncan Wilson. Borough of Manhattan Community College. Coping with Anxiety Literature review In 2013, associate professor of psychology at the University of California, Kate Sweeny and her researchers surveyed 230 law school graduates for a period of four months after taking their bar exam in July 2013 ( J. Hoffman, 2015). The purpose of her research was to focus on the waiting period during which the person is uncertain of the outcome of a life situation and how they manage any anxiety that may occur during that time. The individuals that were surveyed in this descriptive research used three different strategies when asked about how they tried to avoid anxiety while waiting on their exam scores. The first group attempted to suppress their fears by trying to not pay attention. The second group sought for silver linings. They tried to anticipate something good in a bad outcome Dr. Sweeny explained. The third group used defensive pessimism. At the end of Dr. Sweeny s research study what came up is that the people that were calmed down during the waiting period were shattered and paralyzed by the bad news and if they got good news, they were not impress by the results (Dr. Sweeny, 2015). The people who were not doing well during the waiting period actually handled the news much better than the previous set of people. If they received bad news then they were ready for it and had ... • 11. Identity In Chopin s The Awakening Chopin s work has allowed her to become recognized more over time. As women keep gaining rights, so are Chopin s works of literature acquiring literary attention. Chopin realized that people valued morality, especially when it came to things such as adultery and the marital discord caused by such, so she decided to use those two items to try and deliver a message concerning an overarching patriarchy that set into motion internal strife for stereotypically frail individuals and women alike who had been cornered by the strangling ideology. Chopin uses identity as a main focal point concerning her philosophy over her search for self and desire to express herself when being subjugated. Edna also exemplifies the impossibility as it pertains to a woman achieving such a dastardly goal at the time. Edna begins on her journey towards feminine selfhood early in the novel and while doing so evokes sympathy and understanding. However, Chopin writes thoughtfully and uses Edna s journey for even more than what Ramos states above and describes it as, an unrestricted, undefined and, ultimately, impossible state ironically [depriving] her life of meaning (and finally of life itself) (Ramos, Unbearable realism: freedom, ethics and identity in The Awakening. ). In this way she delivers the message concerning an overarching patriarchy and its damages by describing Edna as innocent and crushed by a merciless patriarchy, while also speaking out about the dangers of valuing self over the other individual s in one s life. The nerve conduction study utilizes a computer, computer monitor, amplifier, loudspeaker, electrical stimulator, and filters. These filters are mathematical filters that can distinguish random, background electrical signals from the signal produced by an activated nerve. When the study is done, small electrodes are placed on the skin over the muscles being tested. Generally, these muscles are located in the arms or legs. Some of the electrodes are designed to record the electrical signal that passes by them. Other electrodes (reference electrodes) are designed to monitor the quality of the signals to make sure that the test is operating properly. If monitoring of the test is not done, then the results obtained are meaningless. After the electrodes are in place, a small electrical current can be applied to the skin. At the same time, she hopes to preserve the exhilarating way she lives her life. Through the use of character portrayal, metaphor, symbolism, and diction, Robert Frost suggests to the reader that although people know that they should prepare themselves to walk through life, they still listen to their hearts, which causes them to be unprepared for what lies ahead of them. The poem starts with the woman telling a story from her youth, which is engraved traumatically in her mind. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Comparing herself with her brother, she characterizes herself as a tomboy who is fond of adventure. However, on the day that she hangs on the tree, she realizes her lack of knowledge, in comparison to her brother, and she shows her fear of facing the reality of life. Frost uses character portrayal to illustrate the differences between their characters. Like Eurydice in Greek mythology, whose husband came back to save her, the little girl is saved by her brother from the tree where she is suspended. Frost captures the idea that she is no longer an adventurer, and that leads the reader to notice that she is facing reality. Then Frost develops their characters making clear contrasts: the one who always knows about things and makes a decision following the knowledge and the one who is always led by the other, follows his knowledge, and gets confused in the process. Frost describes that the glade where the grape tree stands is the place that her brother already knew, and he leads her to the place. This introduces to the reader that he knows about the thing before he does it while she just follows what he does. Next, Frost describes, My brother did the climbing; and at first for in sweet feru and hardhack; which gave him some time to himself to eat. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Traditional Parental Figure In The Power Of One By... Everyone has, whether it s a parent, grandparent, or older sibling, a person in their life who influenced them to the point of changing. In The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay, Peekay lacks the traditional parental figure that most people have, and instead crosses paths with many different influential people over the course of the book. This put Peekay at an advantage because he was able to see the world through different perspectives, the perspectives of those who mentored him. He learned from people of all walks of life, which led to him being unbiased and open minded. Peekay also was at an advantage because he had to learn to think for himself. His mentors helped him with this, but the lack of a true parentforced him to learn this early on and master it by time he was older. Finally, each of Peekay s mentors had something different to offer, a different key piece of advice, that gave him a set of morals to live by. Thus, his lack of a traditional parental figure facilitated his maturity and helped him to obtain the power of one. Peekay was mentored by people from all different walks of life, which resulted in him being a very unprejudiced and unbiased character, even at a young age. Peekay was mentored by a white librarian, a mixed prisoner, a middle aged professional boxer, and an old german professor. None of these people had anything in common except for their love and concern for Peekay. Peekay saw each of them for their hearts and character, not their race. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Common American Pizza Essay In 1905 the United States of America hit an incredible milestone. The first pizzeria was opened in Manhattan, called Lombardi s. Since that glorious day American s have enjoyed the delicious taste of pizza. Pizza is a world wide food that is savored in many countries across the globe. It was first created in Naples, as an inexpensive food for un wealthy common folks. It started out as flatbreads topped with assorted fixings like cheese, oil, tomatoes, and garlic. Pizza has evolved over time into what we know it as today. Popular toppings on the common American pizza are sausage, pepperoni, cheese, veggie, and bacon. It would be interesting to see which of the five options would be the most popular and which option would be the least popular.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This method is carried out in different rounds, where one pizza topping will be dropped after each round. The pizza topping that has the fewest first place votes gets eliminated. When there are only two pizza toppings remaining the topping with the most first place votes is the winner of plurality with elimination. I created a table to show the results of the different rounds. The table is similar to the preference chart, but the rows are only showing the first place selections. It is important to understand that whenever a pizza topping gets eliminated it is taken out of the order. The pizza topping that was directly below the one that got eliminated will move up in the order. For example, the first round bacon got the least amount of first place votes. Therefore, bacon was eliminated and anything below bacon was moved up in ranking. So if the order was bacon, sausage, pepperoni, cheese, then veggie the order would change to sausage, pepperoni, cheese, then veggie to accommodate the fact that bacon was eliminated. Looking at the second round on the chart, the orders changed significantly as well as the scores. In the second round, veggie got eliminated leaving pepperoni, sausage, and cheese still in the running. In the third and final round pepperoni was eliminated. The pizza topping that had the most first place votes after eliminating pepperoni was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. The Issue Of Mineral Rights Essay As a first time homebuyer in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, I thought I had very carefully prepared myself for all that the process would involve, including gathering income and financial documentation, qualifying for a mortgage, arranging for a thorough inspection, evaluating needs and desires from a home and finding a reputable agent to represent my interests. One area I never considered, however, was the issue of mineral rights. To be perfectly honest, although I d heard the term, I d never given consideration to what it actually meant. But that all changed in the middle of my home buying process and I d like to share with you the knowledge I ve gained through extensive research I completed to protect my own rights and the rights I would possess as a soon to be homeowner. According to propertylaw, two different forms of rights exist in any real property: surface rights and mineral rights. Surface rights refer to any structure erected above the surface or sub surface structures that do not exceed a certain depth, as well as rights to use all surface property surrounding structures in accordance with zoning ordinances. Mineral rights refer to mineral substances below a certain depth and the way in which they are preserved, explored or extracted. The Importance Of Agent Learning Given an MDP, the total reward in future may be computed as R = r1 + r2 + .... rn But, future rewards are uncertain and needs to be discounted to ascertain their present value as: R = rt+1 + rt+2 + ... rt+n = rt + ЙЈ *rt+1 + .... + ЙЈ(n t) *rn, where discount factor ЙЈ is in the range of [0, 1] The agent learning is primarily based on maximizing discounted value of all future rewards. It may be noted that the initial estimations of maximum value of being in a state s for action a PAGE 19 could be completely wrong and it might take quite a large number of iterations to get these estimations right. A proven effective way to make these estimations is the use of neural network. The milestone in this regard was the use of Deep Q network by Deepmind for the AlphaGo win. Before enumerating their work, it would be good to dissect the scale of the problem to appreciate the need for Q learning. In the game, Deepmind captured last 4 screens of the game from the computer monitor, resized to 84 x 84 pixels and converted to 256 gray levels. • 41. The Caribbean And The Slave Trade In The Caribbean The Ottoman Empires blockage of the once popular trade route to the east, led to the exploration of the America s. In the late 15th century, with the European s goal to find a new trading route, the Portuguese, with their strong maritime power, were the first to venture out. Not only was the establishment of a new trade route crucial, but so was the discovery of resources to exploit for European gain. Land empires formed, bringing about the enslavement of native populations, and control of production and labor. No more was this evident than in the CaribbeanIslands. Small but crucial assets to Europe, why did the Caribbean islands have such a big impact on the slave trade? Many European countries had colonized several regions in North and South America, yet there was something about the Caribbean s that made them indispensable to their respective economies. The politics in Europe, the Caribbean s fertile soil, and its demographics were key factors in the Caribbean s importance. All three factors were essential in the Caribbean becoming a staple in the slave trade. The world capitalist system emerged when Europe became the hub of trade which was made possible by the fortunes they amassed through colonization. • 43. Assessing India s Mobile Number Portability India has more than 900 million mobile connections. To assess the MNP it is of paramount importance to understand the psyche of the Indian consumer. More than 95% mobile subscribers are prepaid, reflecting a price sensitive consumer. This in conjunction with aggressive price competition has led to a high churn rate. Under these circumstances MNP should be high in demand. But contrary to this in the first 12 months after MNP implementation in 2011, only 5% of the churning customers preferred to take benefit of MNP, clearly indicating lower affinity for the same number. This trend could be attributed to several factors. Subscribers in India lack the patience to wait a week for while the porting procedure is completed. On the other hand the prominence of free SIM cards, instantly available at every nook and corner, has very much reduced consumer s apprehension of letting go of the number. Growth in Multi Sim card devices has also helped consumers to hold on to the previous numbers while going in for a new cheaper alternative. What did not help is the discretion used by the operators in many cases to reject porting applications. In such a high churn market, the 90 day waiting period between two porting applications restricts the free movement of subscribers, who are always on the lookout for the cheapest telecom plan. MNP hasn t been without its share of controversies. TRAI has had to file litigations against three telecom companies on the ground of not disclosing to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Economic Systems And Economic System An economic system governs how a society s resources are allocated between people, and so the question of its morality is immensely important (Winfield, et al, 2014). This essay will analyse the different economic systems by considering the two economic systems that fall on the extreme ends of the spectrum of economic systems, these being capitalismand socialism. It will further discuss the characteristics of each of these economic systems and based on these, argue that the mixed economy is the best alternative economic system. The forms of regulations that create efficiencies and those that create inefficiencies will be argued for and the importance and benefits of these regulations will be analysed. . A capitalist economic system is one that is predominantly characterised by free markets, private ownership and limited government intervention. Free markets are commonly known for their ability to achieve economic efficiency primarily through the volunteer nature of exchange and the existence of competition amongst producers (Winfield, et al, 2014). Adam Smith believed that the goal of every economic system should be to achieve economic efficiency through the mechanisms of productive and allocative efficiency.
