The Effect of Over Hunting on Blue Whales
The Effect of Over Hunting on Blue Whales
The blue whale is a magnificent creature being the biggest in the world. The blue whale can eat up to 4
tons of krill in one day, and live up to 90 years old. Blue whales can make sounds and tones that travel
up to 1000 miles away. Blue whales are so big and take up so many resources that have to live in small
groups of one or two called pods. The Blue whales habitat ranges between Madagascar and Antarctica.
In 1904 there used to be close to 400,000 blue whales living on earth, but now due to over hunting
people have put the human race in danger along with the blue whale species.
The history of whaling originates all the way back 3000B.C. Whaling is killing whales for meat and oil.
Huge fleets of whalers did not come around until the 1700 s. By the 1930 s 50,000 whales were being
killed annually. From 1904 to 1967 360,000 blue whales were killed, that adds up to about 70% of their
population. Whales produce up to 3 off spring at most in one year so the bounce back from a huge
killing would take many years. The International Whaling Commission was established in 1946, to help
fight commercial whaling.
The IWC came around to help fight whaling, but they had little effect. In 1970 the Convention of
International Trade of Endangered species put a ban on all whaling. Even though there is a ban on
whaling Norway, Iceland, Japan and the USSR still have whaling fleets but under the name of scientific
research . The only people who are

Mill s Harm Principle
Mill s harm principle of One should not interfere with other people s lives unless those people are doing
harm to others (p.G3), is in other words, if a person do not cause harm to others, there is no reason to
prevent his/her actions. Mill s belives that an individual is the supreme sovereign of his/her own acts.
Even when the decisions taken may be some harm upon him/her, the responsibility of these actions is
only on the individual.
When it comes to drug legalization, many people think that drugs should be legalized. It would stop
drug traffic, its use would be safer, and would be a better drug control under the state and government.
Obviously, the harm principle is linked to this opinion due to, If a person does no one else harm by a
moderate drug intake, then he or she should be allowed to continue using drugs (Rosenstand, 256).
Gun control is another polemic topic. If an individual buy a gun to protect him/herself, apparently do not
cause harm to others. But, what about when an individual buy 30 different guns and kill 50 people
leaving other 500 wounded? This is the case in the recent shoorting in Las Vegas, Nevada. How is
possible for a man to buy 30 guns without any authority interference? These shooting are constantly
happened in the United States, a country in which a gun control exists, what would happened if there
wasnot a gun control? Of course, Mill s harm principle fail in its application in this case. Peraphs Mills
applied his harm principle only to adults and in control of his mental faculties (Rosenstand, 255).
Many people think that to wear a helmet should a personal desition and should be not mandatory. After
all, if harm is cause for not wearing a helmet, it will be a personal harm and no a general harm for
society, People have the right to chose their own poison (Rosenstand, 255).
Certainly, to consume a drug, buy a gun, or wear a helmet are personal decisitions. But pleople should
take into account that legalized or not, there are still drug consumers; under control or not, people is still
buying guns to harm others; and mandatory or not, people are still driving a bicycle or a motorcycle
without wearing a helmet. Then, at the end of the day, as Mill stated, Over himself,

Live in Myths
This excerpt from Live in Myths, written by Ellen Goodman is a fabulous example of all the different
kinds of relationships and their participants who have an excellent sustainability to spend their lives
living their own myths. A very evident character that the author uses to bring out the true meaning of
this piece is her friend. Her friend is continuously apologizing for her husbands unapologetic behavior,
saying, He is not really like that, when he most definitely has been this way since the time they first
started dating. The woman uses the word cranky is order to describe her husband and his actions. But
the author uses more serious and much heavier words like, erratic outbursts of anger , which helps us
understand the nature of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All these unanswered questions bring out a lot of possibilities because it is not everyday that we see
someone like the woman. It must be so difficult for her to be living with her myth as well as her man .
Here the author personifies her myth as if it is another person altogether with different personalities. In
this excerpt the myth is usually what the person actually wants. Therefore they believe the opposite
person is like that in order to save him or herself of getting disappointed over and over again. I know of
a couple where a woman believes that her husband never cheats on her. After finding text messages and
e mails from the other woman, she yet prefers to believe that her husband could never do such a thing.
She is yet living with the man, though the man has made it very clear that he is not in love with her
anymore and would want her to move out. But she refuses. She believes she could make him fall in love
with her all over again and then things would get better. It makes me sad every time my mother and I go
to meet her. Her hope for the future gives me the strength to endure all the difficulties in my life the way
she did. But at the same time it baffles me how she could be so blind to her husband s character and yet
believe that she could bring about a change in a man who doesn t even love her

Some Information about Rational Expectations Theory
The theory of rational expectations is particularly important for workers ideological of national security
, because it is derived from the consequences of the assumption that reaches people in social policy in a
rational way , and some of the consequences of its flavor from the ideological principles such as the
principle of expediency or Maximin Rawlsian ( see (1 ) for a survey ) . Research has shown that the
relevant bargaining in fashion that can be seen as rational from the point of the individual s point of
view , such as the Nash bargaining or Raiffa Kalai Smorodinsky bargaining , and results in agreements
that are fair in some sense. Because of the rigor of this research , much of which depends on the
mathematical proof , it is worth careful study of the effects of the ethical .
Arguments contract
One way to link an individual to work with the principle of rational thought is an argument of the social
contract . The basic idea , which goes back to Thomas Hobbes (2) , is that rational individuals will
participate in the social agreement to behave morally . They will do so because the alternative is chaos ,
that life solitary , poverty and filth , irrational , and short . Most importantly , it will continue to comply
with the agreement , because (according to Hobbes ) it will install voluntarily and authoritarian
government , which gives them an incentive strong to do so.

Functionalist Theory In Sports Analysis
When the topic of functionalist theory was being taught in class, it reminded me of an article I read a
couple of years ago about Denver Nuggest s center Kosta Koufos. For most of the 2012 2013 season
Koufos was a benchwarmer and towards the end of the season was when he started to shine as a player.
When he was asked about his success on the court, Koufos replied, the biggest thing is just to play
within the system, most important, the team is winning games. We re playing well as a team right now.
Functionalist theory is about building a system whose parts work together to promote harmony and
stability. In sports, just like some coaches out there, I believe sports are all about a system, its athletes
and the commitment of everyone

Girls Are To Gross As Boys Research
Girls are to gross as boys are to clean. In truth, a teenage girl would make her bed, listen to music, or
watch tv, while her teenage brother would sit there and eat pizza while playing video games. Honestly, it
might exist as an art, because who knew someone could be so good at being disgusting. They lay out the
whole plan. First they order the pizza. Then, they take their clothes off and throw them on the floor (yes
ladies, this includes dirty underwear). Afterwards, they order the pizza......and wala! Here occurs the
room of a messy teenage boy. Such an amazing piece right? Of course, because every girl wants to enter
a guy s room and see their underwear and week old pizza boxes on the ground . Bringing along the
point, not a single girl wants to date a guy who can t take care of himself. ... Show more content on

Smellsville happens to be every girl s nose in your whole entire school. Do guys think that any girl

how bad they smell? Small things like not wearing deodorant will put up a barrier from a girl being able
to get to know how great the guy can be. So some wear deodorant; that s great, but what good does
deodorant do if they don t look clean? To clarify, showers are these amazing inventions that makes
everyone nice and clean instead of rundown, sketchy, and disgusting.Hence, a guy who looks clean and
nice has a stronger chance of a girl talking to them and/or like them on a daily basis. Now, for all the

Avoid Stereotypes In Hollywood
Hi Thang,
I like this because I support you about giving benefits for Hollywood such as awakening audience s
awareness about real image of the ethnic groups, producing chances for foreign actors, and raising a lot
of profits if Hollywood writers and directors have a social responsibility to avoid stereotyping ethnic
characters.
Base 1: Unity
1. Is there a clearly stated thesis in the introductory paragraph? Yes, you mentioned a clear thesis
statement at the end of the first paragraph, Hollywood writers and directors should have a social
responsibility to avoid stereotyping ethnic characters because it can help audience aware of the true
nature of ethnic groups, create more opportunity for foreign actors, and increase the profits for
Hollywood.

I knew more about benefits as well as positives for Hollywood if Hollywood writers and directors have
a social responsibility to avoid stereotypes. I used negatives of Hollywood in my essay, so I could enjoy
a new whiff of the wind in your essay.
Base 2: Support
1. Is there specific evidence? Yes, there was specific evidence that supported to giving benefits for
Hollywood.
2. Is there plenty of it? Yes, the evidence was very clear and helped the readers know the benefits of
Hollywood if Hollywood writers and directors have a social responsibility to avoid stereotypes.
My comments: I liked your sentence that you wrote in the third paragraph, Hollywood directors do not
give lead roles for Asian actors because they are fearing that Americans do not accept an Asian face on
the silver screen, not because there are not many talented Asian or their wage levels are too high which
is basically due to the fact that existed for more than half a century. Hollywood directors had
discrimination about color actors and did not acknowledge their talent for a long time, so it leads to
stereotyping ethnic characters.

My Experience At The Store
Hãy đến đây và giúp mẹ nói chuyện với cô, my mom would utter to me as she nods her head and smiles
nervously to the cashier at the department store. This was and is a common phrase my mother would
use. Often times, she would anxiously gesture towards me, and softly call me over to translate for her
when she is ready to check out her items at the store and converse with the cashier, who is, a myriad of
times, promoting new store offers and asking the ever present questions pertaining to the level of
satisfaction that we experienced while shopping. When I was a bit younger, in response, I would roll my
eyes and let out a quiet grunt as I drag my feet towards the center of the store, where my mother would

myself antsy and displeased with my mother s requests for translation. Why can t she just speak
English? Then she would be able to talk with other people! I d think to myself. Unfortunately, I came to
understand the situation was not as simple as I had thought. Before I was born, and as they were
displeased with the impoverished conditions of Vietnam in its post war period, my parents, shortly after
their wedding, decided to emigrate to America in hopes of more opportunities. Being that they had lived
in Vietnam for the majority of their life, at the time, my parents traveled over with little to no familiarity
of the American culture or language. And as they had no close relatives or friends living in America for
the time being, they initially felt no desire to adapt to the culture and language that would soon play
such a large part in determining their role in the American society. Instead, my parents brought over to
America the Vietnamese culture, including the Vietnamese language, that they were raised with and had
grown so adapted to. While this helped them in retaining a sense of home in such an unfamiliar country,
they faced a plethora of barriers in their efforts to successfully sustain their newly found lives. At
attempts to adapt to to the foreign society, my parents decided to familiarize

Ogilvy Mather
OGILVY MATHER
PART 1:
One of the most definitive problems with Charlotte Beers brand stewardship was her communicative
process with upper level management. While it may be true that Beers was able to develop a clear vision
of Brand Stewardship and explain what that meant to her collaborative team thirsty for change, the idea
was only a concept at the end of their meeting summit.
It is essential to the success of any plan that a strategy must first be developed, and to that point,
Charlotte Beers was initially on track. She brought together a team to devise a vision and plan for what
Ogilvy Mather was to become, but she never fully developed what that strategy meant and how it was to
be implemented. This lack of strategy set ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clients would be one of the top priorities for Ogilvy Mather because the need to understand the concept
of Brand Stewardship to invest in it, without their support of the idea the concept would be defunct. The
main objects of this communication strategy would be to first and foremost for them to fully grasp the
idea of Brand Stewardship and how it can work for their company. This is integral because it is not only
about understanding, but it s also about knowing the benefits of this service and what it can do for their
company. With the know, I would also want them to understand how Ogilvy Mather will go about acting
out these benefits through strategy and thoughtful planning.
The Core Disciplines play an extremely important role in the Brand Stewardship plan, as they are the
individuals who will be executing the idea. This group would be a priority because if they do not
understand the concept then neither will the client because they are the communicators, they provide the
examples and final product of what Brand Stewardship really is. The main communicative object for the
Core Disciplines would be for them to be able to clearly and concisely define what Brand Stewardship
is. If they are able to explain exactly what the message and concept is, then they will have completed the
first step to proper execution. I would also like them to understand who their resources are, and what
tools are available to them, such

The Yellow Wallpaper, And Desiree s Baby
Not so long ago, there was a time that men s dominance and superiority over women was the social
norm. Men were the accepted authorities in any relationship and held all the say. In the two stories, The
Yellow Wallpaper , and Desiree s Baby , the female protagonists are portrayed as weak characters who
are heavily dependent on their husbands for everything. Without the men in their lives, the women
would be essentially helpless. But the authors of these two stores were nothing like their characters.
They were both strong willed women who had a voice of their own and wanted to make sure it was
heard. Thus, both authors used these stories to give feminism a voice.
Feminism was a concept birthed and bred during the Progressive Era, and time when women s suffrage
was at its peak. Women had gained the right to own property, own businesses, and some women even
began working outside the home. Both stories, Desiree s Baby and The Yellow Wallpaper were written
in the early 1890s, during this pinnacle time in women s right.
The authors of both stories wrote their stories, either accidentally or on purpose, with the undertones of
feminism, hoping to expose the unequal treatment and expectations of females to males. Both stories
challenged the stereotypical roles of females, and in both, the females ended up being the one in power
of their own destinies and overcame the rule of their dominant male counterpart.
In The Yellow Wallpaper the narrator, Jane, is a wife and mother.

Prenatal Genetic Testing Raise Ethnic Issues
In Improvements in Prenatal Genetic Testing Raise Ethnic Issues, R. J. Crayton produced an article
about prenatal testing and whether or not parents should be allowed to have these tests done. First the
situation of a high risk baby who will have a disability or defect after birth, so the parents decide to
abort the child is being viewed as an inequality to the disabled community. Secondly, certain adoptions
are put on hold since the biological parents chose to not carry the unborn child through the entire
pregnancy, however, the surrogate mother wants to carry the child through the entire term. Lastly,
research shows that the results can be a false positive, so unintentionally the parents decide not to keep
the unknown, but healthy baby.
To start off with the population that is born with defects or disabilities view the test results as a
discriminating factor against them because of parents wanting to abort children like them. According to
Professor Daniel Williams, he shows that a speculative society standards may arise to ...produce a
healthy child... due to the test results (Crayton, R.J.). Also, Peter Chipman expands to say that due to the
results parents think of the face value of the disability and not the authenticity of the disability.

about living a disabled life. Nickole has spinal muscular atrophy, which is a genetic disability she had

Vertical Collaboration Vs Vertical Coordination
According to Reframing Organizations the benefits of a formal structure helps a company to not waste
time and money especially on training products in an effort to solve problems that deal with social
architecture instead of people. Structure, basically a blueprint for internal management/ employees and
external constituencies like clients and competitors to follow. It has been said that structural form
enhances and constrains what an organization can accomplish. Originations that are successful
incorporate a variety of methods to coordinate individual and group efforts and to link local initiatives to
worldwide goals. They accomplish this by using both vertical and lateral coordination, they both support
growth in the organization. Vertical coordination is more through the chains of command. Higher ups
maintain the work of subordinates through authority, policy procedures, and planning control. A great
example of vertical coordination is farming. Ensuring each stage in the production, processing, and
marketing of a product is appropriately managed and interrelated to the next, so that decisions about
what to produce, and how much, are communicated as efficiently as possible from the consumer to the
producer (Vertical coordination. (n.d.). Retrieved March 12, 2016, from

The War Between Tsarists Russia And The Empire Of Japan

Due date: May 10, 2015
The 1904 1905 war between Tsarists Russia and the Empire of Japan pitted a newly developed modern
military against and poorly funded, organized, and outdated war machine. It to become the bloodiest war
fought prior to World War I. The conflict gained universal recognition as the Russo Japanese War. The
Russians desired to expand eastward and reap the economic benefits created by the natural resources
contained within China and Korea. In addition, and most importantly they desired year round access to a
warm water port. Japan sought the respect and equal treatment from Western nations and the removal of
Russian influence in the Far East. The war was not a prolonged conflict; however, the final outcome
shocked the powerful western nations. Japan would gain acceptance by western nations as a global
power and a militaristic state. Unfortunately for Russia the conclusion of the war set into motion a series
of events that would bring about the demise of Tsarists Russia.
Russians knew very little of peace. Since the reign of the Grand Duchy of Moscow (1480 1547) until the
reign of the Russian Empire (1721 1917) Russia had been at war or engaged in military conflict on fifty
separate occasions. The leadership and the citizens within the empire lived with war and the ravages of

She Wept She Railed Poem
She Wept, She Railed
She Wept, She Railed by Stanley Kunitz is a poem that focuses on woman and violence. Kunitz details
the way women are treated by men in the 1st and 2nd stanza and then provides examples of powerful
women in history where violence was a major component of their life. The last stanza describes a sexual
experience with one of his past partners. The 1st stanza Kunitz discusses the cruelty that men bestow
upon women and the reaction of women. The woman that is weeping and railing is being forced into
sexual actions. The meat Men toss into a muslin cage is referring to a penis hidden by cloth. To make
their spineless doxy bleat refers to men engaging in rough sexual activity with a doxy or promiscuous
woman. Bleat means to scream and rail, the man that is forcing this woman into sexual activity has
caused other woman to scream in pain. The entire 1st stanza is characterizing men as harsh forcing
women into sexual activity. The 2nd stanza emphasizes the idea of virginity. The years shape to the

violence took place. Cressida was the first cheater she fell in love with one man, Tolius, and then when
she was traded to the Greek army she fell in love with another man. Lastly, Kunitz introduces Catherine

Gender Theory And Standpoint Theory
Gender Theory and Standpoint Theory

Society should be socially acceptable to all members of it no matter where they works, how much
money they have, or don t have, the color of their skin, there sexual orientation, where the
geographically live, etc. when it comes to topic of this nature, most people are very hesitant and don t
want to talk about it. Is it because they know that there are problems that need to be fixed, or because
they know that no matter how much you talk about the topics it s a lot harder to change the way society
is than to just accept it and let it be. The paper discussed the two theories of standpoint theory and the
gender theory. They both are present in everyday society but it just isn t that clear at all times.
When most people think about the job that they have now or that they will have in the future, they don t
think about that where they stand in society will be based off of what one solely knows. That is referring
to the standpoint theory. The one main person that helped develop standpoint theory was Dorothy E.
Smith. She was born in Great Britain in 1926. She worked as a secretary at a publishing company before
she decided to try to get a better job by getting a college degree. She began college at the London

Roman Water System Essay
During the ancient Roman time period, there was a problem towards water. The Romans used water
every day in fountains and for recreational uses. But how could this water be transported for everyday
use and then how was the water to be disposed of? The Romans managed to find the solution to these
problems. They used the idea of the aqueduct to transfer the water from sprigs to Rome. Once the water
was in Rome, it went right to use, either by sending the water directly to a bathhouse to be heated up by
a hypocaust, or to a fountain to be seen by all the people of Rome. The water would then be disposed of
and travel to the sewer system where it was disposed of. But how did these revolutionary water systems

The sewer system would collect water from baths, latrines (a public pay toilet), palaces, fountain, and
other urban runoff (Hasan). From here, the sewers would flow through town to either the nearest river or
to out onto fields for irrigating and fertilizing soil (Wikander 176, 655). However not every Roman
citizen could afford the cost of a bath or bathroom in their house, so they would be forced to either use a
latrine or a chamber pot (Hasan). A latrine was a public pay toilet and a chamber pot was a pot where
bodily excretions went (Hasan). The chamber pot became a problem as most people became too lazy to
properly empty them, so they dumped the chamber pot out of the window. With this problem rising, the
Romans decided to use an open sewer system as well with the regular sewer system (Wikander 168).
The open sewer system is exactly how it sounds, it s an open sewer where sewage runs through town to
the nearest disposal sight. This helped with the disposal of the chamber buckets. Later an emperor
named Vespasian came up with the idea to collect all the urine (Hasan). Vespasian had discovered that
the ammonia in urine had cleaning properties, so he collected the urine to wash clothes

contact. It is also possible for pregnant women to pass the bacteria to their infant during birth.
How Do you Know if you are Infected?
Because symptoms are not always present, you may be infected with chlamydia and not know it. You
can be tested for chlamydia and other sexually transmitted diseases at your local doctor. To test for
chlamydia, the physician ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Infected persons can also transfer the infection to their eyes.
Are There Any Long Term Complications?
When treated early, there are no long term consequences of chlamydia. Serious complications can result
however when left untreated.
Long term complications in men may include:
Epididymitis an inflammation of the testicles that can cause sterility
Prostatitis an infection of the prostate gland
Reiter s Syndrome an autoimmune, arthritis like condition
Sterility
Long term complications in women may include:
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease an ascending infection that spreads from the vagina and cervix to the
uterus and fallopian tubes. PID can lead to sterility.
Perihepatitis an infection around the liver
Reiter s Syndrome an automimmune, arthritis like condition
Sterility
Chlamydia is very dangerous when passed to infants. It can cause eye infections, blindness, ear
infections, pneumonia, and death
How is it Treated?
Chlamydia can be treated with antibiotics. It is important that all of the antibiotics are taken as
prescribed, and that the infected person withhold from sexual intercourse during treatment. Proper hand
washing is essential, as the bacteria can be transferred to the eyes.
All sex partners should be informed to seek treatment. Because chlamydia is often silent, they may not
show symptoms of the infection until long term consequences have
occurred.

Ethnography Summary
After watching the video I realized how much of an impact English speakers have on an English
dictionary. I enjoyed the video and I think that the speaker explained her information about adding
words to the dictionary well. I try to restrict my acronyms and slang usage unless I m talking to people
who understand them seeing as they are not in the dictionary. I was taught that whatever is in the
dictionary are the only words that I should use. I m sure I heard a teacher say once (or more) that you
cannot make up words or that s not a real word. In my opinion, I think that language does not still work
that way. I don t think that it still works that way since people make up words (or change the meaning of
them) all the time. I especially

Freedom, Protected By The First Amendment In The Bill Of...
Freedom is a basic human right. We use it in every aspect of our lives. With family and friends, we
demonstrate our thoughts to each other about the world around us. Our privacy is shrinking because of a
trade off with security. More Security means everyone will be safer but it is not necessary to subdue
freedom because we are scared. The belief of freedom includes the choice of religion or absence of it if
you choose to do so. The rights and choices we make can go as far as we please, if they do not impede
another s right to be happy. Freedom is a natural right, protected by the First Amendment in the Bill of
Rights, that helps shape our everyday lives and is an American ideal. While freedom is a worthy idea to

With increased security, we have lost a lot of our privacy. Security from our defense systems, such as the
military, NSA, CIA and other government agencies, protect us everyday by monitoring threats and
online activities. The security measures in place at public areas, such as full body scanners at airports
and metal detectors at courthouses and some schools, are all in place to protect the general population.
As a consequence of improved security we lose some of our privacy with the invasive searches of our
person and our belongings. One of the former president Barack Obama s last executive orders gave
intelligence agencies the ability to have weaker filter on the data from the Internet. With less of a filter,
more information can be collected about threats to the nation. CIA, FBI and other agencies will be able
to access surveillance on foreigners abroad, including information identifying Americans they may be in
contact with (Swaine). Our government has gained the right to collect information of people with
suspicious tendencies not in the United States. This choice over freedom is not the way to go. Our goal
as a nation is to keep its citizens safe. The executive order gives more reasons for people that hate
Americans to want to kill Americans. Although our wings of freedom will spread farther over the earth,

William Shakespeare: Much Ado about Nothing
What does the play seem to say about power and gender? Compare and contrast at least four characters,
using specific examples to support your answer. William Shakespeare s play Much Ado about Nothing
is one of his many creations during the Renaissance and Elizabethan Era. This is one of Shakespeare s
most famous play that is still performed to this day. I was able to witness students from The University
of North Carolina School of the Arts production perform this play. Shakespeare exposes the dark and
ugly truth about gender inequality that occurred during the Elizabethan Era. In the Messina society, the
men were superior to women, and the women to feel inferiors to the men. However, in this play,
Beatrice is seen as an exception as she says Oh that I were a man (The University of North Carolina
School of the Arts production). For women, honor was based on virginal chastity, while men were
honored based on their social rank and camaraderie. Shakespeare portrays Hero as the ideal women
during the Renaissance period by depicting her as quiet, polite and respectful. She follows the rules of
the patriarchal society, like submitting to her father s decisions and accepting her father s demand that
she should say yes to Don Pedro s marriage proposal. She offers no objection to the marriage proposal
even though it was from Claudio instead of Don Pedro. Hero will not say

Cnut The Great Essay Outline
Cnut the Great, also known as Canute, was the son of Denmark s King Svein Forkbeard and helped his
father to conquer England in the year 1013. After Svein s death, the exiled Anglo Saxon king, Ethelred
the Unready, returned to power, but died in 1016 and was succeeded by his son Edmund Ironside, who
signed a treaty that gave Cnut power over part of England after being defeated at the Battle of
Ashingdon later that year (1016). However, Edmund died a few weeks later and all of England came
under Cnut s rule. His reign brought stability after years of raids and battles. Eventually, Denmark,
Norway, and possibly parts of Sweden also came to be under his rule, forming a vast empire that is often
referred to as the Anglo Scandinavian or North Sea Empire. His son Harold Harefoot became king when
Cnut died in 1035, and served until his death in 1040. Cnut s other son, Harthacnut, then ascended to the
throne; his death in 1042 marked the end of Danish rule in England. King Cnut s most famous quote
goes as follows: Let all men know how empty and powerless is the power of kings. For there is none

Terrorism During The Vietnam War
Throughout the last couple decades, terrorism has become a prominent issue. With the emergence of
major terrorist groups stirring up trouble, such as in the Middle East, many people live in fear of these
emerging threats. Throughout Vietnam s long history, there have been many cases of terrorism. During
the Vietnam War, the US and other western nations committed many atrocious acts of terror against the
Vietnamese population. In 1968, one of the worst acts of terrorism, the My Lai Massacre, occurred in
Vietnam. This atrocious act was committed by the US. According to one American soldier during the

My Prom Experience
It is almost time , my big sister said as we count down the days for prom. Prom was the only event I was
looking forward to during my senior year. The thought of dressing and dancing with friends excited me.
While the days pass by I scratched off each day and I was thrilled to see how close prom was coming. I
began preparing myself by getting all my school work done and eating healthy for the highlight of my
senior year.
The week of prom was here and it terrified me. I was ready, but I did not know if my dress would come
in time or if my makeup artist would be late or even not show up. The first day of the week was
Monday, April 10, 2017, and it is the day the store finished making my dress. I arrived at the mall
around two in the afternoon to pick up the dress. When the lady saw me, she ran to the back and got the
dress. She brought out this ugly brown strip dress. I started screaming and kicking everything in front of
the door. I could not believe they got the wrong dress. The lady saw me screaming my lungs out, so she
went to get the manager. I told the manager that they gave me the wrong dress. He looked at me and
went to the back when he comes out with my dress. He told me there was a little confusion because both
dresses were in the same place.
The dress was a long silver with a spilled on the side and shiny pearls around the neck of the dress. I
walked out the store with the biggest smile on my face after I got the dress. I thought nothing bad would

Manifestations Of Sacred Reality
Manifestations of Sacred Reality Throughout every type of religion or faith based belief system, there
are overlapping characteristics that all work to validate the religion. Two of these elements universally
presented in any religion are the aspect of a sacred reality and the manifestations of such in
hierophanies. Sacred reality collectively validates the religion, giving it some deeper meaning on a
spiritual level. Hierophanies are manifestations of sacred reality, meaning they are physical objects
through which the sacred presents itself (Livingston 43). Different types of hierophanies further break
down sacred reality into categories to understand it. These include sacred persons, sacred time, sacred
places, and sacred objects (43). Specifically, sacred persons and places exemplify different aspects of
sacred reality that have personally impacted my life through my Christian faith. Sacred reality, as stated
before, acts as a means of validating a religion on a spiritual level. It can be broken into four distinct
characteristics that all coincide to show the extraordinary qualities of the sacred, (CITATION FROM
BOOK). The first characteristic is that sacred reality is specially distinctive, or set apart from the world.
This suggests that a spiritual world exists completely set apart from the physical, human world. Most
religions worldwide believe in some aspect of an afterlife or some journey to a stage of enlightenment
where this sacred reality exists, separate from

The Destruction Of Self Individuality In America Today
The Destruction of Self Individuality In a world where people are edged to act as their own, comes the
contradiction of perspicacity. If, and when, what you do, wear, or feel doesn t align with society s
description of ideal; it then falls as an act of rebellion, misconduct, or the seeking of attention. Today, as
individuals of society, we are eradicating each other other not by the temperament of a person, but by
the image we portray everyone to be. Anything more or less than that is anathema. Individuality is
limited and under attack in America today. The destruction of self individuality takes place during all
stages of life, not just as an adolescent. Although children often do not take into consideration the
thoughts of those around them, does not make them any less susceptible to it. As children we are taught
that pink is a girl color and blue is for boys, girls play will dolls and boys play with trucks, girls must
always behave properly and boys will be boys . We limit the desired toys they want, option of favorite
colors, and the option of distinct originality. We often do not realize the restrictions we set on the
younger generations because those are the rules of society, and we must play the game. As the teenage
years approach, we enforce more rules at a stricter rate. At this point in time, what you ... Show more

limitations are set out far worse than the few examples mentioned. Our society is not very accepting of

a part of, and are all guilty of being a part of the destruction. There will never be a change until the
realization is clear to all. If we want a change, it starts with us. Individuality is under attack in America
today, and we the people are attacking

The Cretaceous-Tertiary Mass Extinction
The age of the planet Earth is estimated to be about four point six billion years old. Life on Earth is
estimated to have started one billion years later. Evolution has taken place since then. Evolving life from
simple forms into more complex forms through the course of time. It all began with single celled
organisms, prokaryotes. Later evolving in a period of two hundred million years, cyanobacteria began to
produce photosynthesis. And life went on, evolving, adapting to its home. However through this course
of time, mass extinctions have taken place on planet Earth. One of the most recent mass extinctions, has
as a matter of fact left various amounts of evidence of the creatures which roamed the Earth at that time.
Such magnificent creatures which varied from a very small size to giant sizes. Creatures which are now
known to humanity as dinosaurs. The name of this extinction was the Cretaceous Tertiary Mass
Extinction. This extinction took place roughly sixty five million years ago. It has not been too long since
this incident compared to the life span of the Earth. And yet it is still unclear how this extinction
occurred. Paleontologists to this day, debate on how this extinction occurred. A major factor on what
caused this extinction to occur was an impact of an asteroid. Another theory such as sea level regression
is considered to be the blame for the extinction. Sea level regression is the drop of sea levels which aids
to explain the marine mass extinction, however

of Meli Marine is wondering whether the move is right for the development of company. Some
questions are designed to help him to make proper decisions. Besides, reasons in terms of the questions
are justified in the following. Critical questions 1.Why the vessels price that Teeh Sah gives is
considered to be attractive ? 2.As intra Asia and Asia North America shipping business is busy, What
kind of port is suitable for vessels to dock? 3.What counter strategy can Meli Marine use to avoid the
risk of increasing fuels price? 4.Why Meli Marine choose to deepen its vessel operations rather than

Service Quality Of English Islamic Banks
Abdullrahim (2010) in her dissertation titled Service Quality of English Islamic Banks used a qualitative
focus groups research methodology as a primary data collection, which is closely related to the
methodology I will propose to use in my study. Abdullrahim (2010) used a mixed methodology of
qualitative (focus group) and quantitative (questionnaire) to conduct the study. A modified service
quality model (SERVQUAL) was used to measure the quality of service in Islamic banks in the United
Kingdom (UK). The quality service model can be described as a degree and direction of the difference
between customer perception and customer expectation. The researcher stated that Islamic banking in
the UK, Britain has the most active and developed Islamic banking sector in the European Union and is
leading the way for Islamic banking in the west (Abdullrahim, 2010, p. 1). The researcher focused on
Muslims in the UK and what are their perceptions and evaluation of service of the quality of Islamic
banks in the UK. The researcher studied Islamic banks in England because there are millions of
Muslims who lived in the UK and banks started to offer Sharia products (Abdullrahim, 2010; Hanlon,
2004).
Abdullrahim conducted the focus group in two stages. First, Eight focus group discussions were

New York Vs. Los Angeles City Essay
New York Vs. Los Angeles City: Which is Costly? Both, New York and Los Angeles are two great cities
of the United States which grab the attention of whole world but, compare to Los Angeles living in New
York is very costly. While living in the either city is depend on individual choice. Some peoples want to
live either in New York or in Los Angeles. Both cities have different individual climate and attractions.
Some factors play a very important role which make New York very costly than Los Angeles are,
expense of living, different individual taxes rate, financing and salaries, and other activities etc..
Development of two cities are very different with each other. Now a day New York is developing
vertically and in other hand Los Angeles is developing horizontally.
Life in Two Cities Before I start to discusses which city is costly than other, I want to discusses about
the climate and attraction of individual city. Winter in New York is very frigid and land is covered with
snow which is beautiful atmosphere. So people can do different activity like, skating on ice and
assembling of snow man. In contrast summer of Los Angeles is warm and winter is mild not extreme
like New York so, people do lot of outdoors activities throughout the whole year. Above information is
very true for their related cities. In New York, summers tend to be somewhat mild and the south eastern
lowlands usually experience the warmest temperatures, as well as the biggest breaks between frosts.

The Importance Of Individualism In Society
Being an individual means to be free from society. Mark Twain portrays in his satiric novel, The
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, published in 1884 in the Antebellum South in Mississippi, 14 year old
protagonist exposes the immorality of white society. The author s purpose is to criticize the racism,
slavery, and the hypocrisy that existed in the white civilized society in order to enact social change. Walt
Whitman portrays in his free verse poem Song Of Myself from the collection Leaves Of Grass
published in 1855 that everyone in the universe has a purpose and that purpose is to be a part of nature.
Whitman might express the idea to Twain that everyone in the pre Civil War era is a part of nature and
find solutions from it; therefore everyone has to value nature because it represents the higher power.
James McPherson, author of The Best Government on God s Footstool, claims in his historical account,
What We Fought For, during the Civil War is that why did they fight. McPherson wrote similarly as
Whitman in his writing, What We Fought For, that informed his readers that both sides fought for their
own way of freedom and both had equal sacrifices. During a time of cultural turmoil the text made by
Twain, Whitman and McPherson expresses ideas of individualism and society when an individual does
not conform to society s expectations during the 19th century.

important that

Fritz Lang s Dr. Mabuse The Gambler
Fritz Lang s Dr. Mabuse the Gambler is a film about a man who is many things, or at least appears to be
many things. He is a gambler, a puppeteer, an actor, a player, a psychologist and a criminal among other
occupations. He has so many appearances that even after viewing the entire nearly five hour film, it is
unclear who Dr. Mabuse really is, and how he became who he is.
As the subtitle The Great Gambler: A Picture of the Time suggests, the first part of Dr. Mabuse concerns
itself greatly with depicting modern society, particularly urban life, as well as perhaps critiquing it. The
Time being referred to, in this particular case, is the Weimar Republic era of Germany, a time of

And it is because we are taught this common sense, that rural individuals of all ages are often some of
the best people to be around. Because they understand how things work, and that what goes around
comes around. This ties directly with the down to earth perspective that rural Kansas offers.
Just exactly what is a down to earth perspective? A layman definition of a down to earth perspective is
seeing the world as it really is. You do not need to embellish it, or pretend that the world is something
that it is not. With a down to earth perspective you see the world, and in it, you see truth. It is a second
instinct of most Kanasans to develope a down to earth perspective, because there is earth all around us.
Farmers work in and with the earth to reap a bountiful harvest. Because of this, they have a realistic
perspective on the world, and see how nature works firsthand. This ripples out to those around them.
Rural Kansas is a farming community, and life lessons that they reap along with their harvest, stretch out

The Imf And The World Bank Essay
Globalization Learning Journal 2 Throughout this section of the class, the IMF and the World Bank have
been studied extensively. All students have come away with different ideas about these two
organizations. In the following paragraphs, I will attempt to explain my own thoughts on the IMF and
the World Bank. Mainly, that their practices are insufficient for accountability and do threaten the
sovereignty of certain nations. I will also attempt to explain why I think this is the case. The first item of
importance, however, is to go through what the goals and criticisms are of these two organizations. The
goals of the IMF are global monetary cooperation, securing financial stability, facilitating international
trade, promoting high employment and sustainable economic growth, and reducing poverty around the
world. (IMF About, 2016). In comparison, the goals of the World Bank are less obviously stated due to
the fact that they are an organization with many sub organizations within it. The overarching goal,
however, seems to be around assisting countries with both poverty alleviation and economic
development (About the World Bank, 2016). Both the IMF and the World Bank have similar goals, and
they also have similar criticisms as well. In terms of the IMF, several of the criticisms are as follows:
They do not generally specialize in the economies of the countries whose policies they oversee, often do
not live in those countries and mostly work from Washington, D.C. and

Salvador Dali Surrealism
From what I noticed in this poem, I read it as the man in the poem is not happy about winter and the
snow with cold weather. When the man says Snow on the flowery almond tree I read that as the man
saying that the snow is covering up all the good stuff on Earth. With Snow on the snow I read that as
more snow is covering up the good things on Earth. The same thing applies to whern he says It is like
flowering almond tree under the snow about how the snow is covering up all of the good things in the
world. It s too cold this afternoon in the world is saying that that afternoon almost all of the good things
in the world are all completely covered in snow and that no one is able to see then and experience them.
When the man says But I open the door to my dog and he comes into the warmth this shows him as
saving his dog from the cold and allowing his dog to to enter warmth with the rest of humanity. The
speaker (persona) for this poem is named Salvador Dali. This poet is what is known as a surrealist. A
serrealist is an artist or writer who is an exponent of the avant garde movement in art and literature
which sought to release the creative potential of the unconscious mind. Salvador Dali is a Spanish artist
and poet who originated from Spain.Salvador Dali s tone is more towards the sad and gloomy side
rather than the happy and sunny side of life, winter specifically. When he is talking about the snow

  • 2. The Effect of Over Hunting on Blue Whales The Effect of Over Hunting on Blue Whales The blue whale is a magnificent creature being the biggest in the world. The blue whale can eat up to 4 tons of krill in one day, and live up to 90 years old. Blue whales can make sounds and tones that travel up to 1000 miles away. Blue whales are so big and take up so many resources that have to live in small groups of one or two called pods. The Blue whales habitat ranges between Madagascar and Antarctica. In 1904 there used to be close to 400,000 blue whales living on earth, but now due to over hunting people have put the human race in danger along with the blue whale species. The history of whaling originates all the way back 3000B.C. Whaling is killing whales for meat and oil. Huge fleets of whalers did not come around until the 1700 s. By the 1930 s 50,000 whales were being killed annually. From 1904 to 1967 360,000 blue whales were killed, that adds up to about 70% of their population. Whales produce up to 3 off spring at most in one year so the bounce back from a huge killing would take many years. The International Whaling Commission was established in 1946, to help fight commercial whaling. The IWC came around to help fight whaling, but they had little effect. In 1970 the Convention of International Trade of Endangered species put a ban on all whaling. Even though there is a ban on whaling Norway, Iceland, Japan and the USSR still have whaling fleets but under the name of scientific research . The only people who are ... • 3. Mill s Harm Principle Mill s harm principle of One should not interfere with other people s lives unless those people are doing harm to others (p.G3), is in other words, if a person do not cause harm to others, there is no reason to prevent his/her actions. Mill s belives that an individual is the supreme sovereign of his/her own acts. Even when the decisions taken may be some harm upon him/her, the responsibility of these actions is only on the individual. When it comes to drug legalization, many people think that drugs should be legalized. It would stop drug traffic, its use would be safer, and would be a better drug control under the state and government. Obviously, the harm principle is linked to this opinion due to, If a person does no one else harm by a moderate drug intake, then he or she should be allowed to continue using drugs (Rosenstand, 256). Gun control is another polemic topic. If an individual buy a gun to protect him/herself, apparently do not cause harm to others. But, what about when an individual buy 30 different guns and kill 50 people leaving other 500 wounded? This is the case in the recent shoorting in Las Vegas, Nevada. How is possible for a man to buy 30 guns without any authority interference? These shooting are constantly happened in the United States, a country in which a gun control exists, what would happened if there wasnot a gun control? Of course, Mill s harm principle fail in its application in this case. Peraphs Mills applied his harm principle only to adults and in control of his mental faculties (Rosenstand, 255). Many people think that to wear a helmet should a personal desition and should be not mandatory. After all, if harm is cause for not wearing a helmet, it will be a personal harm and no a general harm for society, People have the right to chose their own poison (Rosenstand, 255). Certainly, to consume a drug, buy a gun, or wear a helmet are personal decisitions. But pleople should take into account that legalized or not, there are still drug consumers; under control or not, people is still buying guns to harm others; and mandatory or not, people are still driving a bicycle or a motorcycle without wearing a helmet. Then, at the end of the day, as Mill stated, Over himself, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Live in Myths This excerpt from Live in Myths, written by Ellen Goodman is a fabulous example of all the different kinds of relationships and their participants who have an excellent sustainability to spend their lives living their own myths. A very evident character that the author uses to bring out the true meaning of this piece is her friend. Her friend is continuously apologizing for her husbands unapologetic behavior, saying, He is not really like that, when he most definitely has been this way since the time they first started dating. The woman uses the word cranky is order to describe her husband and his actions. But the author uses more serious and much heavier words like, erratic outbursts of anger , which helps us understand the nature of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All these unanswered questions bring out a lot of possibilities because it is not everyday that we see someone like the woman. It must be so difficult for her to be living with her myth as well as her man . Here the author personifies her myth as if it is another person altogether with different personalities. In this excerpt the myth is usually what the person actually wants. Therefore they believe the opposite person is like that in order to save him or herself of getting disappointed over and over again. I know of a couple where a woman believes that her husband never cheats on her. After finding text messages and e mails from the other woman, she yet prefers to believe that her husband could never do such a thing. She is yet living with the man, though the man has made it very clear that he is not in love with her anymore and would want her to move out. But she refuses. She believes she could make him fall in love with her all over again and then things would get better. It makes me sad every time my mother and I go to meet her. Her hope for the future gives me the strength to endure all the difficulties in my life the way she did. But at the same time it baffles me how she could be so blind to her husband s character and yet believe that she could bring about a change in a man who doesn t even love her ... • 5. Some Information about Rational Expectations Theory The theory of rational expectations is particularly important for workers ideological of national security , because it is derived from the consequences of the assumption that reaches people in social policy in a rational way , and some of the consequences of its flavor from the ideological principles such as the principle of expediency or Maximin Rawlsian ( see (1 ) for a survey ) . Research has shown that the relevant bargaining in fashion that can be seen as rational from the point of the individual s point of view , such as the Nash bargaining or Raiffa Kalai Smorodinsky bargaining , and results in agreements that are fair in some sense. Because of the rigor of this research , much of which depends on the mathematical proof , it is worth careful study of the effects of the ethical . Arguments contract One way to link an individual to work with the principle of rational thought is an argument of the social contract . The basic idea , which goes back to Thomas Hobbes (2) , is that rational individuals will participate in the social agreement to behave morally . They will do so because the alternative is chaos , that life solitary , poverty and filth , irrational , and short . Most importantly , it will continue to comply with the agreement , because (according to Hobbes ) it will install voluntarily and authoritarian government , which gives them an incentive strong to do so. Functionalist Theory In Sports Analysis When the topic of functionalist theory was being taught in class, it reminded me of an article I read a couple of years ago about Denver Nuggest s center Kosta Koufos. For most of the 2012 2013 season Koufos was a benchwarmer and towards the end of the season was when he started to shine as a player. When he was asked about his success on the court, Koufos replied, the biggest thing is just to play within the system, most important, the team is winning games. We re playing well as a team right now. Functionalist theory is about building a system whose parts work together to promote harmony and stability. In truth, a teenage girl would make her bed, listen to music, or watch tv, while her teenage brother would sit there and eat pizza while playing video games. Honestly, it might exist as an art, because who knew someone could be so good at being disgusting. They lay out the whole plan. First they order the pizza. Then, they take their clothes off and throw them on the floor (yes ladies, this includes dirty underwear). Afterwards, they order the pizza......and wala! Here occurs the room of a messy teenage boy. So some wear deodorant; that s great, but what good does deodorant do if they don t look clean? To clarify, showers are these amazing inventions that makes everyone nice and clean instead of rundown, sketchy, and disgusting.Hence, a guy who looks clean and nice has a stronger chance of a girl talking to them and/or like them on a daily basis. Avoid Stereotypes In Hollywood Hi Thang, I like this because I support you about giving benefits for Hollywood such as awakening audience s awareness about real image of the ethnic groups, producing chances for foreign actors, and raising a lot of profits if Hollywood writers and directors have a social responsibility to avoid stereotyping ethnic characters. Base 1: Unity 1. Is there a clearly stated thesis in the introductory paragraph? Yes, there was specific evidence that supported to giving benefits for Hollywood. 2. Is there plenty of it? Yes, the evidence was very clear and helped the readers know the benefits of Hollywood if Hollywood writers and directors have a social responsibility to avoid stereotypes. My comments: I liked your sentence that you wrote in the third paragraph, Hollywood directors do not give lead roles for Asian actors because they are fearing that Americans do not accept an Asian face on the silver screen, not because there are not many talented Asian or their wage levels are too high which is basically due to the fact that existed for more than half a century. Before I was born, and as they were displeased with the impoverished conditions of Vietnam in its post war period, my parents, shortly after their wedding, decided to emigrate to America in hopes of more opportunities. Being that they had lived in Vietnam for the majority of their life, at the time, my parents traveled over with little to no familiarity of the American culture or language. And as they had no close relatives or friends living in America for the time being, they initially felt no desire to adapt to the culture and language that would soon play such a large part in determining their role in the American society. Instead, my parents brought over to America the Vietnamese culture, including the Vietnamese language, that they were raised with and had grown so adapted to. While this helped them in retaining a sense of home in such an unfamiliar country, they faced a plethora of barriers in their efforts to successfully sustain their newly found lives. While it may be true that Beers was able to develop a clear vision of Brand Stewardship and explain what that meant to her collaborative team thirsty for change, the idea was only a concept at the end of their meeting summit. It is essential to the success of any plan that a strategy must first be developed, and to that point, Charlotte Beers was initially on track. This is integral because it is not only about understanding, but it s also about knowing the benefits of this service and what it can do for their company. • 15. The Yellow Wallpaper, And Desiree s Baby Not so long ago, there was a time that men s dominance and superiority over women was the social norm. Men were the accepted authorities in any relationship and held all the say. In the two stories, The Yellow Wallpaper , and Desiree s Baby , the female protagonists are portrayed as weak characters who are heavily dependent on their husbands for everything. Without the men in their lives, the women would be essentially helpless. But the authors of these two stores were nothing like their characters. They were both strong willed women who had a voice of their own and wanted to make sure it was heard. Thus, both authors used these stories to give feminism a voice. Feminism was a concept birthed and bred during the Progressive Era, and time when women s suffrage was at its peak. Women had gained the right to own property, own businesses, and some women even began working outside the home. Both stories, Desiree s Baby and The Yellow Wallpaper were written in the early 1890s, during this pinnacle time in women s right. The authors of both stories wrote their stories, either accidentally or on purpose, with the undertones of feminism, hoping to expose the unequal treatment and expectations of females to males. Both stories challenged the stereotypical roles of females, and in both, the females ended up being the one in power of their own destinies and overcame the rule of their dominant male counterpart. First the situation of a high risk baby who will have a disability or defect after birth, so the parents decide to abort the child is being viewed as an inequality to the disabled community. Secondly, certain adoptions are put on hold since the biological parents chose to not carry the unborn child through the entire pregnancy, however, the surrogate mother wants to carry the child through the entire term. Lastly, research shows that the results can be a false positive, so unintentionally the parents decide not to keep the unknown, but healthy baby. • 17. Vertical Collaboration Vs Vertical Coordination According to Reframing Organizations the benefits of a formal structure helps a company to not waste time and money especially on training products in an effort to solve problems that deal with social architecture instead of people. Structure, basically a blueprint for internal management/ employees and external constituencies like clients and competitors to follow. It has been said that structural form enhances and constrains what an organization can accomplish. Originations that are successful incorporate a variety of methods to coordinate individual and group efforts and to link local initiatives to worldwide goals. They accomplish this by using both vertical and lateral coordination, they both support growth in the organization. Vertical coordination is more through the chains of command. Higher ups maintain the work of subordinates through authority, policy procedures, and planning control. A great example of vertical coordination is farming. It to become the bloodiest war fought prior to World War I. The conflict gained universal recognition as the Russo Japanese War. The Russians desired to expand eastward and reap the economic benefits created by the natural resources contained within China and Korea. In addition, and most importantly they desired year round access to a warm water port. Japan sought the respect and equal treatment from Western nations and the removal of Russian influence in the Far East. The war was not a prolonged conflict; however, the final outcome shocked the powerful western nations. Japan would gain acceptance by western nations as a global power and a militaristic state. Unfortunately for Russia the conclusion of the war set into motion a series of events that would bring about the demise of Tsarists Russia. Russians knew very little of peace. Since the reign of the Grand Duchy of Moscow (1480 1547) until the reign of the Russian Empire (1721 1917) Russia had been at war or engaged in military conflict on fifty separate occasions. But how could this water be transported for everyday use and then how was the water to be disposed of? The Romans managed to find the solution to these problems. They used the idea of the aqueduct to transfer the water from sprigs to Rome. Once the water was in Rome, it went right to use, either by sending the water directly to a bathhouse to be heated up by a hypocaust, or to a fountain to be seen by all the people of Rome. From here, the sewers would flow through town to either the nearest river or to out onto fields for irrigating and fertilizing soil (Wikander 176, 655). However not every Roman citizen could afford the cost of a bath or bathroom in their house, so they would be forced to either use a latrine or a chamber pot (Hasan). A latrine was a public pay toilet and a chamber pot was a pot where bodily excretions went (Hasan). The chamber pot became a problem as most people became too lazy to properly empty them, so they dumped the chamber pot out of the window. With this problem rising, the Romans decided to use an open sewer system as well with the regular sewer system (Wikander 168). The open sewer system is exactly how it sounds, it s an open sewer where sewage runs through town to the nearest disposal sight. This helped with the disposal of the chamber buckets. Compare and contrast at least four characters, using specific examples to support your answer. William Shakespeare s play Much Ado about Nothing is one of his many creations during the Renaissance and Elizabethan Era. This is one of Shakespeare s most famous play that is still performed to this day. I was able to witness students from The University of North Carolina School of the Arts production perform this play. Shakespeare exposes the dark and ugly truth about gender inequality that occurred during the Elizabethan Era. In the Messina society, the men were superior to women, and the women to feel inferiors to the men. Manifestations Of Sacred Reality Manifestations of Sacred Reality Throughout every type of religion or faith based belief system, there are overlapping characteristics that all work to validate the religion. Two of these elements universally presented in any religion are the aspect of a sacred reality and the manifestations of such in hierophanies. Sacred reality collectively validates the religion, giving it some deeper meaning on a spiritual level. Hierophanies are manifestations of sacred reality, meaning they are physical objects through which the sacred presents itself (Livingston 43). Different types of hierophanies further break down sacred reality into categories to understand it. These include sacred persons, sacred time, sacred places, and sacred objects (43). Specifically, sacred persons and places exemplify different aspects of sacred reality that have personally impacted my life through my Christian faith. Sacred reality, as stated before, acts as a means of validating a religion on a spiritual level. It can be broken into four distinct characteristics that all coincide to show the extraordinary qualities of the sacred, (CITATION FROM BOOK). The first characteristic is that sacred reality is specially distinctive, or set apart from the world. This suggests that a spiritual world exists completely set apart from the physical, human world. The author s purpose is to criticize the racism, slavery, and the hypocrisy that existed in the white civilized society in order to enact social change. Walt Whitman portrays in his free verse poem Song Of Myself from the collection Leaves Of Grass published in 1855 that everyone in the universe has a purpose and that purpose is to be a part of nature. Whitman might express the idea to Twain that everyone in the pre Civil War era is a part of nature and find solutions from it; therefore everyone has to value nature because it represents the higher power. James McPherson, author of The Best Government on God s Footstool, claims in his historical account, What We Fought For, during the Civil War is that why did they fight. McPherson wrote similarly as Whitman in his writing, What We Fought For, that informed his readers that both sides fought for their own way of freedom and both had equal sacrifices. During a time of cultural turmoil the text made by Twain, Whitman and McPherson expresses ideas of individualism and society when an individual does not conform to society s expectations during the 19th century. • 38. Fritz Lang s Dr. Mabuse The Gambler Fritz Lang s Dr. Mabuse the Gambler is a film about a man who is many things, or at least appears to be many things. He is a gambler, a puppeteer, an actor, a player, a psychologist and a criminal among other occupations. He has so many appearances that even after viewing the entire nearly five hour film, it is unclear who Dr. Mabuse really is, and how he became who he is. As the subtitle The Great Gambler: A Picture of the Time suggests, the first part of Dr. Mabuse concerns itself greatly with depicting modern society, particularly urban life, as well as perhaps critiquing it. The Time being referred to, in this particular case, is the Weimar Republic era of Germany, a time of expressionism when Berlin was the cultural centre of Europe. ... In the same way, the prices at the stock exchange are also arbitrary. The value placed on each stock is entirely based off of what people think the stock is worth, at the end of the day just numbers on a chalkboard. Dr. Mabuse understands these conventions that most characters only take for granted, and this helps him to gain an advantage. It is notable that at the stock exchange, Dr. Mabuse stands high above everyone else, and that down below, every man is indistinguishable in matching top hats and coats. The superimposition of Mabuse s face over the stock exchange room shows the his dominance over establishment. His visage is a recurring visual motif that appears whenever he is manipulating someone or something, each time appearing in a different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Because they understand how things work, and that what goes around comes around. This ties directly with the down to earth perspective that rural Kansas offers. Just exactly what is a down to earth perspective? A layman definition of a down to earth perspective is seeing the world as it really is. You do not need to embellish it, or pretend that the world is something that it is not. With a down to earth perspective you see the world, and in it, you see truth. It is a second instinct of most Kanasans to develope a down to earth perspective, because there is earth all around us. Farmers work in and with the earth to reap a bountiful harvest. Because of this, they have a realistic perspective on the world, and see how nature works firsthand. This ripples out to those around them. Rural Kansas is a farming community, and life lessons that they reap along with their harvest, stretch out to the rest of us. • 41. The Imf And The World Bank Essay Globalization Learning Journal 2 Throughout this section of the class, the IMF and the World Bank have been studied extensively. All students have come away with different ideas about these two organizations. In the following paragraphs, I will attempt to explain my own thoughts on the IMF and the World Bank. Mainly, that their practices are insufficient for accountability and do threaten the sovereignty of certain nations. I will also attempt to explain why I think this is the case. The first item of importance, however, is to go through what the goals and criticisms are of these two organizations. The goals of the IMF are global monetary cooperation, securing financial stability, facilitating international trade, promoting high employment and sustainable economic growth, and reducing poverty around the world. (IMF About, 2016). In comparison, the goals of the World Bank are less obviously stated due to the fact that they are an organization with many sub organizations within it. The overarching goal, however, seems to be around assisting countries with both poverty alleviation and economic development (About the World Bank, 2016). Both the IMF and the World Bank have similar goals, and they also have similar criticisms as well. In terms of the IMF, several of the criticisms are as follows: They do not generally specialize in the economies of the countries whose policies they oversee, often do not live in those countries and mostly work from Washington, D.C. and ... • 42. Salvador Dali Surrealism From what I noticed in this poem, I read it as the man in the poem is not happy about winter and the snow with cold weather. When the man says Snow on the flowery almond tree I read that as the man saying that the snow is covering up all the good stuff on Earth. With Snow on the snow I read that as more snow is covering up the good things on Earth. The same thing applies to whern he says It is like flowering almond tree under the snow about how the snow is covering up all of the good things in the world. It s too cold this afternoon in the world is saying that that afternoon almost all of the good things in the world are all completely covered in snow and that no one is able to see then and experience them. When the man says But I open the door to my dog and he comes into the warmth this shows him as saving his dog from the cold and allowing his dog to to enter warmth with the rest of humanity. The speaker (persona) for this poem is named Salvador Dali. This poet is what is known as a surrealist. A serrealist is an artist or writer who is an exponent of the avant garde movement in art and literature which sought to release the creative potential of the unconscious mind. Salvador Dali is a Spanish artist and poet who originated from Spain.Salvador Dali s tone is more towards the sad and gloomy side rather than the happy and sunny side of life, winter specifically.
