The Anatomy Of The Cerebral Cortex
The cerebral cortex is a vital component of the brain, and is responsible for bodily functions that
would be difficult to live without. To have a more suitable expertise of the cerebral cortex scientist
divided the brain into for lobes contingent to the purpose of what each lobe is responsible for. Each
lobe of the cerebral cortex plays an essential role in humans every day life. If one of the lobes were
absent being successful at the University of Oklahoma would be difficult if not unviable. The cerebral
cortex has numerous functions, each being unique to how it affects the human body. Scientist
categorized the cerebral cortex into four different lobes depending on their purpose to improve our
understanding and assist our research of the cerebral cortex. The four lobes of the cerebral cortex are
the Frontal, parietal, occipital, and temporal lobes. The frontal lobe, located at the front of the brain
close to our foreheads, is in charge of more intricate and complex work of the brain. It manages jobs
such as contemplating, making decisions, and planning, but the frontal lobe is also in charge of
emotions and communication proficiency. The frontal lobe is an important component of the cerebral
cortex and is associated in most every day life experiences. Whether it be deciding on an outfit for the
day, or having a conversation with a friend. The parietal lobe transfers our senses like contact,
temperature, and aroma into things the body can feel and comprehend. If

Outdoor Kitchen Advantages And Disadvantages
Outdoor kitchen design/outdoor living
Kitchens are not traditional as they used to be. New outdoor kitchen designs are emerging on a daily
basis. This has been influenced by the availability of furniture, kitchen appliances and cabinets among
others. There are many outdoor kitchens designs a person can choose from. Outdoor kitchens or

An Anonymous Rape Survivor s Story
It wasn t rape you were being such a tease. NO I said. I covered my vagina with both of my hands and
I said NO! I was with a close male friend and I thought I was safe. I thought I was safe when I went
out drinking with said friend and I thought I was safe when we went to my place to hangout. This is an
anonymous rape survivor s story. These common occurrences affect a fair portion of the population in
Missoula, in comparison to the national average, and something should be done. There is also a low
number of people who are there to support and help the survivors of sexual assault. According to city
data.com in 2014 the rape rate in Missoula was 68.9% and the U.S average was 27.2% per 100,000
pop. Missoula s rape rate has increased every year with a staggering 22.4% increase from 2013. While
the U.S average increased by only 0.4% from 2013. During 2011 Missoula was also named the rape
capital of America. (Crime Rate in Missoula, Montana). With that being said, why is Missoula the
only city with a target on their back? The New York Times reported that a series of events led to a
Federal Justice Department investigation into how the university, the City of Missoula, and Missoula
County handle the reporting of sexual assaults. This is a problem that every college campus in
America experiences, every community experiences at some level, so it s not unique to the University
of Montana, UM President Royce Engstrom said. The stats of rape in Missoula are high in the

Ontario Sex Education Curriculum Analysis
Being a parent is already hard enough, but adding social media into the equation, and suddenly topics
like: sexting, gender fluidity and anal sex are taking the foreground. In response to this unregulated
adult information, Service Ontario who made the Ontario Sex Education Curriculum has decided to
take necessary steps and include more similar topics into elementary schools.
All education has its own purpose, even sex education. According to Service Ontario, The revised
health and physical education curriculum is based on the vision that the knowledge and skills students

The school leads the sex education and has the curriculum to first educate students. It is not only the
responsibility of the school or government; the parents also have responsibilities to teach their
children at home. According to A Parent s Guide, it says, Parents help their children form values about
relationships and behaviours and their sexual health. (Ontario, 2015) The schools, parents, and
communities are responsible for educations of children to feel involved in the changed and new
concept society has developed. Most parents tend to avoid this kind of communication with their
children. Parents are the most important role models to give the proper ideals on the issues. The results
and conclusions depend on the children, not the parents or communities. Parents should give the right
for the children to decide about the issues without forcing any specific opinions on them. Society
should give the opportunities to the children to face the challenges that come ahead, and make
decisions to solve problems based on the education they had in their childhood. With the decisions,
children or students can develop their ideas of the sexual issues and topics by themselves. Through
this stage, they are able to grow up further with

Zefferelli s Interpretation Of Romeo And Juliet
The original death scene in the play by Shakespeare was a major part of the story and people have
remade this scene in many different ways. Some good interpretations of this scene are Romeo and
Juliet (The shakespeare version), Romeo and Juliet (the Zefferelli version), and a piece of art called
Romeo and Juliet: the Tomb Scene By Joseph Wright. Although these are accurate interpretations they
have their differences. In the text Shakespeare puts a lot of emphasis on the role that fate plays in the
way that Romeo and Juliet s unfortunate end. He does this to show that love conquers hate and that
sometimes it takes a terrible event to stop the conflicts of the people that need it. Romeo there dead,
was husband to that Juliet; and she, there dead, that Romeo s faithful wife. (Shakespeare 104) The
death scene elaborates on this because if only one thing was changed their deaths could have been
prevented and this whole ordeal wouldn t have been happening. This is very frustrating to the reader
and demonstrates the effect that fate had on this whole situation. In this scene Shakespeare Romeo
speaks a lot of his sorrow and this is pushed on the readers as they read the final scene. ... Show more

This tells the viewer that the couple is together even in death and it gives comfort to them, knowing
that they are still together. He sticks pretty true to the text in this scene except for that fact that Romeo

Individualism Individualism
TShifting to a more contemporary lense, Libertarian s ultimate priority of individual rights has
evolved in present day America into a set of supplementary values called individualism. Although this
principle is never mentioned in Hospers paper, his positions stated on personal liberties and self
preservation serve as the foundation for this idea, which extends these rights to be applicable as a
lifestyle where every decision is made strictly for someone s own personal benefit. (Boaz)
Unsurprisingly, individualism also entails a resistance to all type of restrictive measures by
authoritative powers, especially the obligation to provide assistance to another citizen financially or
otherwise. (Boaz) In the Libertarian view, nobody should be forced to even tell someone the time of
day if requested against their will. (Hospers, 331) In this sense, Individualism can be seen as the active
exercise one s individual liberties. Furthermore, according to David Boaz of the Libertarian think tank
The Cato Institute, individualism also gives a person the power to flourish on their own terms, and can
also provide a sense of dignity , especially to underrepresented groups. (Boaz)
Whether or not by design, this Libertarian emphasis on individualism is a theme that has become
heavily ingrained into contemporary American life as the culture, economics, and politics of the
country all have elements of this value. In fact, according to a recent Pew research study, U.S. citizens

Marked Woman Deborah Tannen Summary
Marked Women
In Deborah Tannen s article There is No Unmarked Woman she focuses on how women are being
misconceived and prejudged on solely the way they re dressed. The main point in the article is that
there is no such thing as an unmarked woman men have the option and women simply do not. To be
marked in the way Tannen states it is changing the meaning of a word by simply adding a participle,
but that participle has no meaning on its own. Deborah Tannen points out that even in the English
language marked is a staple of linguistic theory. By simply adding a linguistic participle to a word that
already has no meaning by itself can change the meaning of a word. As Tannen states in her article
that women must make a decision on how they wish to appear on a day to day basis through their
makeup, hair style, shoes, clothes, etc. When women are choosing how to appear everyday they re
trying to escape the preconceptions that men never really have to face due to more narrow decisions.
Tannen makes a good statement when she refers to the research of Ralph Fasold in which men are
actually marked. Fasold points out that girls are born with fully female bodies, while boys are born
with modified female bodies. Tannen writes. In conclusion Tannen says how she s upset the ... Show

Tannen seems to have a lot of assumptions which relate to events or situations that she has
encountered. While comparing and contrasting the style between men and women Tannen makes a
good point that hairstyles are something that sets women apart from each other. There was no marine
crew cut or oily longish hair falling into eyes, no asymmetrical, two tiered construction to swirl over a
bald top. Tannen states. She explains that for men, there are basically one or two, hairstyles in the
workforce leaving them with no choices, unlike women. Therefore, since men don t have a choice
unlike the men, women can automatically be marked or

The School Of The Olyphant School District
In 1910, when this school was first open, many students throughout the United States still attended
classes in one room schoolhouses. Aside from the one room schoolhouse in Marshwood, Olyphant had
progressed beyond that stage. This building was the centerpiece of the Olyphant School District. It had
the look of a high school in a major city. At the time all of the streets in downtown Olyphant were
paved with red brick. Most of the students lived within walking distance of the school. They were able
to walk home to eat lunch. Therefore, no one ever thought of including a cafeteria in the building
plans. It was built without a cafeteria or kitchen of any kind.
When I attended, there was a lunchroom. It was in what was originally a classroom on the first floor of
the annex. There were blackboards and chalk trays. There were folding tables and folding chairs for
some students to sit and eat. There was no real kitchen. There was a counter. Behind the counter there
was a refrigerator and a freezer. There also was a Stewart In Fra Red oven for heating Stewart
Sandwiches. Stewart Sandwiches were pre made hamburgers, hotdogs and the like. They were
marketed by Stewart In Fra Red, Inc., Harvard, Illinois. Infrared ovens were more readily available
than microwave ovens, or radar ranges as they were called. The primary market for Stewart
Sandwiches was snack bars at bowling alleys and low end retail stores. At the time, Stewart
Sandwiches were also the main entrée

The Irony Of The Sinner
While traveling through Hell, Dante the pilgrim encountered numerous sinners on each level, all
prepared to tell their tales of misfortune and transgression. However, though some ask Dante to
remember them or tell their stories on Earth, most of them speak for their own gain, not simply to
educate Dante on the penalties of their sins. Each sinner appears to wallow in the past, isolating
themselves in their sin and occasionally ignoring Dante as a person entirely. Even when these sinners
find themselves physically trapped together with another soul, they remain lonely and miserable in
their suffering: they have deprived themselves of the forgiveness and love God offered them and now
must find something else to love. As they have rejected God, these sinners still seek to fill that void of
emptiness to which they have forever condemned themselves. In Dante Alighieri s Inferno, the irony
of the sinner s contrappaso reflects the irony that, even in the suffering they have brought upon
themselves, they have a misplaced love in their sin in place of the love God offered them.
In Canto V, Dante encounters the Francesca and Paulo, who have thrown away their chance for heaven
for one another, yet enjoyed the action of sinning itself more then each other s company. As soon as
Dante the pilgrim comes upon the pair, Francesca relates the tale of their sin, explaining how this one,
who never shall be parted from me, while all his body trembled, kissed my mouth....that day we read

The Implementation And Adoption Of An Lms
This literature review consists of two primary areas relating to the successful implementation and
adoption of an LMS. The purpose is to offer historical and theoretical support in the form of previous
works which may help to build context around similar studies, and provide insight into answering the
aforementioned research questions. The first section reports existing historical knowledge and current
research on the LMS, including implementation, evaluation, and management, with examples of some
innovative models which have emerged around the country. The second section covers Everett Rogers
theory of Diffusion of Innovations (Rogers, 1995, 2003b, 2003a), including the perceived attributes
for the adoption of innovations within large organizations. It will include the implementation of new
technology, and how leadership decisions and communication play a role in the adoption process.
Together, these sections provide a deeper understanding of crucial elements needed for an
implementation framework, and underlying information for the research questions being explored. .

Amelia Earhart Disappearance Theory
How could someone survive a plane crash? Since Amelia Earhart s disappearance, theories were
developed trying to explain what was taken into effect, after there was no response from her in the
Pacific ocean. Some either believe that Japanese troops kidnapped her, she died as a castaway, or that
Earhart lived under another identity. In the end, Amelia Earhart did survive her attempted voyage
around the world. Earhart s mysterious disappearance lead to different theories. One of those theories
is that the Japanese kidnapped Amelia Earhart and her navigator Noonan, holding them captive.
Earhart and Noonan were making a stop on Howland island, but before they arrived they lost
connection with the U.S. Coast Guard. Years later, a picture was discovered in the U.S. National
Archives displaying what is supposed Earhart and Noonan near Japanese troops. Along with the two
missing people in the photograph, parts of plane were behind them. An American spy took the picture.
An article in:
Kent Gibson, a facial recognition expert, who studied the photo, said in the History Channel special
that it s very convincing evidence that the photo is of Noonan. The hairline is the most distinctive
characteristic, Gibson said. It s a very sharp receding hairline. The nose is very prominent.
A facial recognition expert confirmed that the U.S. spies photograph could possibly be Noonan and
Earhart. Although it is very possible for Earhart and Noonan to be kidnapped, the picture with the

Examples Of Grit In Nursing
There are a lot of different ways people could think of grit. My concept of grit would be having the
passion and perseverance to accomplish something. My goal is to one day be a travel nurse. There are
alot things that come with nursing, becoming a travel nurse will be challenging but with courage,
follow through and excellence rather than perfection you can achieve that goal. To become a travel
nurse you need to obtain a bachelors of science in nursing and have no less than one year of

semesters you will need a good bit of courage. There is one quote In the passage 5 characteristics of
grit: how many do you have? that stands out to me the most. Perlis states, While courage is hard to
measure, it is directly proportional to your level of grit. More specifically, you ability to manage fear
of failure is imperative and predictor of success. (perlis 3). This quote to me says, the level of gritienst

Critical appraisal of strengths and weaknesses of Boyatzis s intentional change theory
Increasing someone s knowledge is different from getting them to make lasting changes in their on the
job behaviors and it requires a different model of learning which is what Boyatzis s theory offers [1]
Boyatzis s model contends that we are more likely to achieve sustainable change when we actively
seek to make five discoveries:
1. Our ideal self: the person and leader we truly want to be
2. Our real self: our current nature and how this compares to our ideal self
3. Our personal learning agenda: the things we need to change and do to close the gap
4. Opportunities for experimenting with and practicing new behaviors
5. Those who can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that this theory focuses on the strengths and provides a methodology to identify the gaps that
could exist between the real self and the ideal self is itself a big motivator to continue the journey of
self discovery to the person we could potentially be in order to achieve the ideal us.
However, Boyatzis s theory has a few disadvantages: firstly, it assumes that an individual knows how
to make the transition from My real self to My ideal self . It does not contemplate how to get there, but
if we use SAKE (Skills, Attitudes, Knowledge, Experience) to represent our real self this will provide
us with a clearer idea and a mechanism to identify the gaps in between and an action to achieve the
ideal self, it provides the tool to understand who do we already are, what is missing and what action
plan needs to be implemented to fill those gaps.
According to Neck and Manz, Self leadership is defined as the process of influencing oneself to
establish the self direction and self motivation needed to perform [3] Boyatzis s theory can be
strengthen by Neck and Manz s in the way that: the two main elements of this theory are Self talk and
mental imagery. Self talk is what we covertly tell ourselves, it suggests the potential of self talk as a
self influencing tool for improving personal effectiveness [3] Boyatzis s model

Capricorn By Max Ernst, Pokal ) By Balthasar Griessmann
Artists do not create sculptures. They simply see an object and begin to mold or carve it, thus allowing
that object to freely stand alone. Almost anything can be sculpted, but what makes a good monument
is its ability to tell a story or cause contemplation without words. Two pieces at the Nelson Atkins
Museum of Art in Kansas City depict unique scenarios using lines, movement, balance, and value.
Capricorn by Max Ernst and Pokal by Balthasar Griessmann use organization of the elements of form
and principles of design to both narrate and describe intense ideologies. While both pieces have
similarities such as being sculptured in the round and storytelling ability, the use of the elements and
overall tones of the art works give each piece a unique quality.
Max Ernst, a German artist born in the late 1890 s created Capricorn in 1948 using a Bronze casting
system. The sculpture depicts a royal family, consisting of a man, a woman, and a small child
(female). They man is sitting on what seems to be a throne, and is holding a massive cane. The woman
sits next to the man on her own chair, in a very formal upright position, while the small girl sits on the
man s lap. Max Ernst titled the work Capricorn , which relates to astrology and a constellation,
suggesting a spiritual belief. Ernst was married to Dorothea Tanning, a fellow artist, and it is believed
that the characters in the sculpture are portrayals of them. Ernst also owned several Katsina, or Zuni

My Mother Served As Minister Of Music
Eleven years ago I walked into a church. From the outside it looked like your ordinary, everyday
church, but on the inside...on the inside it felt like coming home. I went from a young girl wounded by
the hypocrisy of well meaning church goers, to a woman on fire for God and ready to step out in my
God given destiny as a warrior for the Lord.
I have been a believer since the age of seven. I can remember the exact feeling as the Holy Spirit filled
me with such longing to be a part of the family of God that I could barely sit still until the invitation to
come forward was given. But even before that, I had been in church from infancy. My mother served
as minister of music for many years, and church functions were as natural to me as breathing. But it
does not take much for the tender heart to be wounded by those that no matter how well intentioned
think they know better than God, and manage to impose their judgement and harsh words on others. I
was too new to my walk, and too stuck at my traditional faith maturity level, to understand I should
not confuse the people of God with the heart of God. I stopped going to church, and, often with the
exception of times of struggle I did not even pray. I had no idea the relationship I was missing out on
because, you see, the church I grew up in knew the Word of God but they failed to share the heart of
God. Therefore, I saw the Lord only as my judge and jury, I did not understand the grace, mercy and
goodness of God. I couldn t

In Jane Austen s novel, Pride and Prejudice, Mr Collins is shown as a comical man, who we as readers
are not expected to take seriously throughout the novel. Mr Darcy is a much deeper character, and
Austen uses him to portray divisions between classes. She uses their proposals firstly to highlight the
difference in the attractions the men have towards Elizabeth, but secondly to emphasise the
importance of social class within a marriage proposal. This is seen in the form she writes in the
content of the proposals (dialogue in Collins s proposal versus free indirect discourse in Darcy s), and
the structure of the proposals. The contrast between Mr Collins proposal and Mr Darcy s proposal is
highlighted by the proposals varying styles, which shows the reader the emotions fuelling the
proposals. Austen portrays Collins proposal as arrogant and rehearsed, and this juxtaposes Darcy s
proposal which is portrayed as much more authentic. Collins during the proposal is described as
having no feelings of diffidence (chap 19). Darcy, on the other hand, is tenser, even though in the
Regency period it was rare for a woman of Elizabeth s status to ever turn down a man of his eligibility.
Darcy s proposal is said, in an agitated manner . This shows that Darcy is expressing his feelings and
is agitated because he is not sure they are reciprocated. Collins proposal is overly rehearsed, for
example, he lists his reasons for wanting to marry Elizabeth, My reasons for marrying are,

Descriptive Essay On The Experience Of A City
Our destination that afternoon was a place called Daylesford, which looked, wHen we arrived, more
like a movie set than like an actual working town. The buildings on the main street were two stories
tall, and made of wood, like buildings in the Old West, but brightly painted. Here was the shop selling
handmade soaps shaped like petit fours. Here was the forgery, the jammery, your source for
moisturizer. If Dodge City had been founded and maintained by homosexuals, this is what it might
have looked like. The spas are fantastic, Pat said, and she parked the car in front of a puppet shop.
From there we walked down a slight hill, passing a flock of sulfur crested cockatoos, just milling
about, pulling worms from the front lawn of a bed and breakfast. This was the moment when
familiarity slipped away, and Australia seemed not just distant but impossibly foreign. Will you look at
that, I said. It was Pat who had made the lunch reservation. The restaurant was attached to a hotel, and
on arriving we were seated beside a picture window. The view was of a wooden deck and,
immediately beyond it, a small lake. On a sunny day, it was probably blinded, but the winter sky was
like brushed aluminum. The water beneath it had the same dull sheen, and its surface reflected
nothing. Even before the menus were handed out, you could see what sort of a place this was. Order
the pork and it might resemble a rough hewn raft, stranded by tides on a narrow beach of polenta. Fish

The Minister’s Black Veil by Nathaniel Hawthorne
One of literatures greatest quality is allowing the reader s mind to uncover subliminal messages in an
attempt to form their own understandings and ideas. Perhaps, this particular process is commonly
described in the idiom reading between the lines. While many writers have implanted this literary
aspect into their works, this essay focuses on a specific parable written by Nathaniel Hawthorne
entitled The Minister s Black Veil. Notably, a parable is a simple story used to illustrate a moral or
spiritual lesson. The characters and setting of which Hawthorne uses to get his point across creates an
overwhelming atmosphere that increases the power of his message. An analysis of Nathaniel
Hawthorne s The Minister s Black Veil offers readers an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this parable, Mr. Hooper gives an invisible element in sin a physical appearance in the black veil
which now makes his sin a connection between himself, God, and the townspeople. It is apparent that
Mr. Hooper is dealing with some sort of internal conflict and his way of confronting his issue is by
covering his face from everyone with the black veil.
Lastly, there are several themes in The Minister s Black Veil relating to topics including sin, guilt, fear,
and judgment. The first theme focuses on people s reaction to change. Soon after Mr. Hooper covers
his face, people secluded themselves from him and gave him bewildered stares even after he showed
them courtesy. Likewise, his wife Elizabeth left him after she failed to persuade him to abandon the
black veil. The narrator also explains how Mr. Hooper created a group of converts as well as how
people at their deathbed would not take their last breath until they received consolation from Mr.
Hooper. Strangers began to travel from long distances just to hear his sermons and gaze at his figure.
Another theme found in The Minister s Black Veil is that people fear what they do not know and do
not understand. The mystery of the black veil perhaps was the biggest thing that intimidated the
townspeople. Mr. Hooper is overcome with the same horror as the townspeople when he catches a
glimpse of himself. In an attempt to solve the mystery of the black veil, the townspeople past
judgment and create

How are the Majority of Celebrities Inappropriate Role...
People look up to celebrities as role models, the youth especially. The youth believes that if they
imitate these cynosures they will become affluent and legendary. Famous people imply that if the
youth act insubordinately they will be successful in life. Celebrities of today are not appropriate role
models for this generation.
A celebrity is a famous or well known person, someone who has fame or is renowned
(dictionary.com). When people think of a celebrity they think of someone they would see on
television, in magazines, or here about on the radio; those are the celebrities I am referring to here, but
those aren t the only celebrities out there. There are also other interpretations for the word celebrity.
My favorite alternative to the typical thought of a celebrity is the term local celebrity. A local celebrity
or hometown celebrity doesn t have to be rich or world famous, they are known for doing something
that has either impacted the local area or has made his/her hometown proud. My focus is on the
quintessential definition of celebrity, the ones that are known for their influence on the current
generation, my generation.
The current generation is easily influenced because it is completely focused on being accepted by
society and trying to find ones individual identity. The youth of my generation believe that their
identity is based on society s acceptance; not on their own thoughts, desires, and opinions of
themselves. Most celebrities preach about individuality to

Change In Fahrenheit 451
Can it be possible for people to change how they see and interpret the world? In Ray Bradbury s
Fahrenheit 451, Montag leaves his past, ultimately changing the way he thinks. In the passage Montag
has just escaped the Hound as well as his previous life, and is being carried away by the river into the
forest while thinking about his future. The revelation in this passage is a culmination of all the
knowledge that Montag acquires throughout the book. Ray Bradbury conveys to the reader how
finally leaving his old world has completed the change inside of Montag through the use of metaphors
and repetition.
The first way the author describes how Montag feels about the fakeness present in the world of his
past is through the use of metaphors. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout this passage, the word burn progresses over time from burning, to burned, to burnt. This
relates to what Montag is thinking, and brings him to his realization that the firemen need to stop
burning books. This is reinforced by the metaphor of The sun burning every day. It burned time.... So
if he burnt things with the firemen, and the sun burnt Time, that meant that everything burnt!
(Bradbury 140 141). The burning of the sun and it s likening to time and how the firemen and Montag
burn tells that too much is being burned as well as destroyed. At this point the change within Montag
is completed, and is shown by the metaphor of Now the guild of the asbestos weaver must open shop
very soon (Bradbury 141). The guild of asbestos weavers refers to the intellectuals in his past
community, who need to come forth and share the good that comes from having individual
knowledge. Bradbury ends the metaphor with telling the reader that the weavers must open shop very
soon, making the reader aware that change needs to happen. And this begins by coming forth with
knowledge and stopping the firemen. Somewhere the saving and putting away had to begin again and
someone had to do the saving and keeping (Bradbury 141), as he realizes the importance of preserving
books and gleaning important information and knowledge from them. Bradbury s use of the saving
and keeping is to emphasize to the reader that those who care enough to make change happen are the
one s who must step up, and enforce change. Protecting these books is an significant task that is key to
the greater good of society and future

Sources of Pollution and Their Effect
Air pollution used to be a natural occurrence that had no major effects on the Earth s inhabitants. Such
instances were caused by forest fires, emission from the Earth, and volcanoes. It was not until humans
discovered how to start and control fire that we started over polluting the planet. For many years cities
have struggled through thick smog due to dense smoke emissions. Officials, like in Los Angeles, have
tried to adopt multiple measures to combat the smog but the city, and the rest of the world, continued
to boom in industry. Thus, overwhelming the air pollution reforms the city tried to enforce. However,
it was not until about seventy one years ago during the height of World War Two, when the dire
consequences of air pollution began to dramatically increase. Instead of a foreign enemy attacking the
city of Los Angeles, it was a domestic one, smog. On July 26, 1943 downtown Los Angeles was
covered in smoke and fumes. The smog was extreme to the extent that it cut off visibility of three
blocks. This spontaneous gas attack came about in the middle of a heat wave. For the citizens it was
unbearable. They suffered from throat scraping and eye stinging sensations. The people soon realized
that something must have gone wrong.. The day after the incident, the city officials blamed the
Southern California Gas Co. s Aliso Street plant for the catastrophe. In order to stop the smog, the
angry public had the plant shut down temporarily. Yet they were unpleasantly surprised to

Comparing David And Bernini s David
Michelangelo s sculpture of David, as seen on the left, was created during the Renaissance. His style
of creating the sculpture is very different from Bernini s David, which can be seen on the right. While
both of these sculptures are meant to resemble the same young man who defeated Goliath the giant,
their features and characteristics make them appear as two separate individuals. However, both
sculptures capture the personality of David. These sculptures share a common meaning, but qualities
such as stability versus instability, reserved versus involving, calm versus emotional, and light versus
dark set them apart. As both of the titles of the sculptures represent, the man is David in the Bible.
During both the time of the Renaissance and the time of Baroque, people were very religious. The two
show the heroism and braveness of the personality of David who had the help of God to defeat a giant
who was much larger than himself. Despite a similar purpose behind them, the style that the two
artists used created different feelings between the sculptures. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Essay on Gender in Hawthorne’s Blithedale Romance
Gender in Hawthorne s Blithedale Romance
The Blithedale Romance, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, is a story of a twisted utopia. This perfect
world is twisted in that the roles of gender have a traditional utopian representation, only with a more
contemporary take. Of course, this is interesting because this book was written and published in the
19th century when such ideas were beginning to establish a form for the genre of writing. Hawthorne
combines fantasy, philosophy, mystery, gothic, and even [what would be called today] science fiction.
This novel illustrates the early break from even fresh ideas. The writing style allows for the
genderizing degenderizing affect as well as nature of the self.

The males within the novel always seemed to be placing their skills and knowledge above the women
s own. Characters such as Coverdale and Hollingsworth placed their own thoughts above those of the
female characters almost anytime that they could. The women, oddly, seemed to show diverse roles.
Subtly, this is a representation of women as more complex than men in general. One of the characters,
Zenobia, is probably the most least genderized character of the novel, that is, until the end.
Throughout most of the novel, she is seen as very masculine (in comparison to traditional roles that is)
yet very feminine at the same time. She has a mystical illusion about her yet seems very sensible in
the ways of life. However, by the end of the novel, Hawthorne writes her character to be very
manipulative and weak, for she dies of grief. On the other hand, the other female character, Priscilla,
seems to hold the same mystical aura about her, yet she is the is the typical female character. She is
feminine in her daily activities; she prances around with a constant smile and seems naive about the
world. She is the victim of other s doings. The hierarchy of the sexes is blatantly obvious in that it
favors the male and holds the male ideals perfectly.

The Mongol Empire And The Impact Of The Mongol Empire
Revised paper proposal and bibliography
The Mongol empire was one the greatest empires of all time expanding all over Central Asia.
Bordering Chinese states, the Khwarazmian empire, present day Afghanistan, Siberia, Iran, and many
more, at its height the mongol empire was over 20,000,000 square kilometers. This was all possible
due to extraordinary men in Central Asia, ruled by Genghis khan emperor of the Mongol empire.
These Asian nomads along with their fearless and intelligent leader, flourished against numerous odds
impacting all those whom they waged war against. A recipient of this impact in particular was Russia.
It was around 1219 when the Mongols first entered the Kievan Russia marking the beginning of the
interactions of the two. With the Mongols rise in establishing one of the largest contiguous empire in
history and having Russia only distances away the collision of the two were inevitable. As history
shows this collision did happen in the year 1236 which marked the beginning of great impact that the
Mongols would have on the Russian empire culturally, politically, and economically.
Prior to the rise of the Mongol empire and their invasion of Russia, was a time of violence. Mongolia
separated by tribes and provinces was a non unified empire with little impact to Central Asia. Being
separated, feuds between provinces of power and money were the reason why Mongolia remained
separated. The provinces after a long a grueling process eventually became united by a

The Importance Of Media Influences On Children And Teens
The media has played a large part in creating the social norms in which many think of. This is because
there are many types of media out there, including advertisements and television. The media has this
type of influence on people of all ages. The influence can be trying to sell a certain item that children
and teens would want or how to act or look a certain way. For this, this is why the media has a huge
influence on the attitudes and viewpoints of children and teens.
Children and teens now live in a world that is covered with media influences. In the Australian

traditional Western Medicine. I personally know people who have been cured by Alternative Therapies
using acupuncture, diet, and Reiki. Considering that most Eastern Medicine practice are thousands,
even tens of thousands of years old and have been tried and tested over the centuries speaks well for
their effectiveness.

Stereotypes Of The Traveler
TRAVELLER, TOURIST AND BACKPACKER The concept of the traveller is seen very differently
in comparrison to the tourist. Both have the same interest in being in another country and experiencing
another culture, but to what extent are they experiencing it in the same way? The tourism industry has
created these different types of categories of people who travel to other countries that have evolved
over hundreds of years. Modern travel has become more affordable to people of all different
backgrounds and with growing technology it has helped create this booming economy that the whole
world in some way benefits off of. In todays society it is now more affordable and easier to reach
another country compared to 100 years ago. This has created both titles of the tourist and travller as
the tourist has become a negative title to carry as sterotypes on todays society have created a tarnished
reputation of tourists. It is widely talked about how the tourist and traveller have two different
meanings, but are they really that different? If so which title would fit the backpaper? As a traveller or

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Dual Citizenship
Dual citizenship refers to an individual who is recognised as a national in two countries concurrently
(U.S. Department of State). It exists when one applies for citizenship in a country other than the one
they were born in. There has been much controversy shrouding the topic because some feel that
restricting dual citizenship violates human rights, while others see it as something that would
potentially dilute national identity. However, Singapore has taken a firm stand, and opposed such
laws. This essay will explore both the advantages and disadvantages of dual citizenship, but contend

Therefore, it is to be ensured that Singaporeans are loyal to their home country. Having Singapore
citizens with dual citizenship means that those people have divided allegiance to two countries. This
leads to another question. Do the people with dual citizenship see themselves as Singaporeans or
Americans (for example)? What happens if Singapore faces a war? Who is to say that they will remain
steadfast and defend Singapore? They might just flee to their second home . Then does this not serve
as a disadvantage to citizens who were born and raised in Singapore? Albeit unlikely to happen, the
safety that we experience in Singapore must not be taken for granted. Singapore needs unwavering
citizens who will not abandon it when times get tough. It gives other countries the excuse to bully and
look down upon Singapore. Another issue that arises which is also related to Singapore s defense is
the requirement for males with dual citizenship to serve National Service (NS). Is it still mandatory for
them to serve NS even if they are living abroad? Thus, there are many complexities that need to be

Arrian is also quick to criticise Alexander when it is deserved, this is indicated by the disgust that he
felt at the servile behaviour that Alexander allowed many of his followers to indulge in. This not only
indicates how impartial and genuine Arrian is also greatly strengthens the reliability his opinion, in
turn helping to justify the praise he adorns upon Alexander. In comparison to the other four surviving
sources on Alexander, it is easy to understand why Arrian s is considered the most accurate. Plutarch,
like Arrian portrays Alexander in a favourable light, however, some of it verges on the romantic, thus
dismissing it as bias. Justin s work is widely regarded as unreliable and Curtius is also considered
somewhat suspect. Although Diodorus contains valuable material, his dates are confused and his
geography is inaccurate, thus respectively making Arrian s the most effective account of Arrian s

The origins of Alexander s excellent skills as a leader can be traced right back to his impressive
upbringing. Sharing many of his father s traits, it is obvious that Philip bestowed upon Alexander a
phenomenal personal courage, a sharpness in decision making, intellectual perception and firm
leadership skills all of which aid in verifying Arrian s appraisal of Alexander s leadership. Inheriting a

Will do, sir Will do, sir Great, ascend to the battlegrounds with your telepathy power. By the way, your
powers have been increased to Corporal levels, so you can fight however you please. From there, we
ascended to the battlegrounds once more to end this horrendous war. We just started walking towards
the colonel of the Yasmistan army. Anytime someone tried to make a move towards us, they would be
shunted away. We approached the colonel. Sir, we would like to construct a peace treaty between
Buscausia and Yasmistan. You try and kill us, all of your men will drop dead in an instant. What is
your decision. Thank god one of you came, I m a Buscaisian myself, but I was forced into the army. I
ascended ranks until I was a colonel. I waited and waited for this day to come. Yes a peace treaty may
be crafted. From that day forth, Yasmistan provided oil to the world and Buscausia protected them in
turn. No one would ever break the bond of those 2 countries ever

Here, we will implement this project by using 555 timers IC. Other basic components which we used
are power supply, Light Dependent Resistor (LDR), Relay and Light emitting diodes (LEDs) which
we are using in place of a light bulb. A. 555 Timer IC The 555 timer IC is an integrated circuit (chip)
used in a variety of timer, pulse generation, and oscillator applications. The 555 can be used to provide
time delays, as an oscillator, and as a flip flop element. Derivatives provide up to four timing circuits
in one package. The IC was designed in 1971 by Hans R. Camenzind under contract to Signetics,
which was later acquired by Philips. Depending on the manufacturer, the standard 555 package
includes 25 transistors, 2 diodes and 15 resistors on a silicon chip installed in an 8 pin mini dual inline
package. Variants available include the 556 (a 14 pin DIP

A Experiment On Magnetic Field
Theory A magnetic field is an area in which there is an electrical charge where a magnetic force acts.
A magnetic field can be induced in a circular loop and it can be calculated if the radius, current, and
number of turns are all known. When in the form of a coil it is directed along the axis of the coil and is
usually uniform throughout the coil until it begins to fall off when it gets further away from the center.
Another characteristic of magnetic field is that it can be changed to induce a voltage. That induced
voltage is known as the magnetic flux and it can be calculated by knowing the area of the coil and the
value of the magnetic field going through the coil.
Experimental Procedure This experiment was broken up into four different parts. It began by verifying
the connections and understanding the direction of the sensor. The next section measured the field
versus the current and the purpose of this was to find the value of the vacuum magnetic constant μ0 by
using the measured magnetic field and the current of the coil. In the following portion of the
experiment the purpose was to measure the rate at which the magnetic field drops off as the sensor is
moved away from the cell. The final part of the experiment had one use a magnet to change the field
of the coil so that a voltage could be induced and measured.
Results
The experiment began by connecting the magnetic field sensor to the universal lab interface and
setting it to 6.4mT. Once the field was set up a

Market Share Of The Enterprise Software
This is how 2015 market share of the enterprise software looked like for the top 10 vendors of total
$320B in product revenues.
Gartner s 2Q16 forecast shows that 2016 global spending for enterprise software will be $367.5 billion
in constant U.S. dollars.
Large organizations as well as small startups have been focusing on the enterprise segment. Once
consumer only products like iPhone (for business) and Android (for work) are now enterprise ready
and widely used for businesses in the large organizations. Moreover, the business model shift from a
legacy on premises to the cloud based SaaS model is evident and that is enabling both, businesses as
well as vendors, to be agile, work from everywhere, reduce maintenance/ownership cost and quickly
scale to the evolving business demands. It s not surprising that nowadays virtually every enterprise
software offers a flavor of cloud or SaaS solution.
Though as of today most of the enterprise softwares are still sold traditionally where CIO/CXO and
business relations play crucial roles, but the market shift, workforce sentiment/satisfactions can t be
ignored for long. As a result, established players and leaders in the segment are changing and pulling
up their sleeves to deliver modern and competitive products. Contrary to what Paul Graham said in
2007, today enterprise software companies are also trying to be technology companies.
However, building enterprise software always has been challenging. In my opinion, consumer

Rhetorical Analysis Of Haruki Murakami s Colorless...
Readers heavily associate famed Japanese author Haruki Murakami with the genre of magical realism
and consider his novel Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage to be a departure from
that genre, but realism hardly characterizes Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and its multitude of fantastical
elements. Readers encounter dreams that ambiguously blend into reality, characters who straddle
multiple realities, and a narrative that unabashedly abandons a linear and chronological structure.
Even Murakami s protagonist Tsukuru struggles to maintain a clear sense of reality within his life.
Ultimately, Murakami s conception of an objective reality is a mirage solid and unwavering from afar
but upon closer inspection, nothing is what it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Murakami creates an intersection between these two antithetical realities through Shiro s pregnancy.
After her rape allegedly by Tsukuru Shiro becomes pregnant. Her pregnancy represents a junction
between the two realities because it is a real and physical consequence that manifests in Tsukuru s
reality based on an act committed in Shiro s reality. Although Murakami presents the reality in which
Tsukuru is the victim first, he never fully gives one reality preeminence over the other as the plot
unfolds. Instead, even Tsukuru finds himself unable to pick which of these realities represents an
objective truth. Furthermore, Murakami prevents his audience from assuming the supremacy of either
Tsukuru or Shiro s realities by paralleling their journeys as victims. After his friends abandon him,
Tsukuru loses his appetite and consequently loses a massive amount of weight. Similarly, after her
assault, Shiro develops such a severe eating disorder that at one point [...] she was down to under
ninety pounds (Murakami 252). Moreover, Tsukuru develops an unwavering obsession with his own
death during his depression, and, likewise, their childhood friend Kuro equates Shiro s death with
committing suicide (Murakami 257) because she no longer had the will to live even before her murder.
The most poignant parallel Murakami introduces between Tsukuru and Shiro s journeys as victims is
that after Shiro s assault, she d lost her glow

Parody In Young Frankenstein And Mary Shelly s Frankenstein
Young Frankenstein and Mary Shelly s Frankenstein is seen as one of the best parody ever
constructed. Mel streams depicts the fabulous violence motion picture in a truly virtuoso perspective.
Regardless of the way that his depiction is near and dear the turn in his outline is a representation of
the work of a honest to goodness virtuoso. This is the reason behind the 1970s film industry triumph.
Moreover he changes startling circumstances into unfathomably fascinating and senseless
circumstances. The film Young Frankenstein opens up what is done in high difference. This was the
same case with Mary Shelly s Frankenstein s. The opening up of the film in exceptionally
differentiating was done to keep the validness in Young Frankenstein. This was

The Motif of Ernest Hemingway´s A Farewell to Arms
The world contains many recurring events that remind humans of morals or things that are important.
In the novel A Farewell to Arms many events come again and again. Usually, these events that repeat
or come again have a deeper message inscribed in the text. This is not unlike whereas the novel The
Great Gatsby has weather that unfailingly matches up with the tone and mood of the text. The author
Ernest Hemingway has created A Farewell to Arms with a motif that is very precise. The motif of rain
and nature in Hemingway s novel divulges that there are things that a human beings cannot control;
making them recognize what they lack and how life can bring sadness.
The constant appearance of rain allows for sadness to be foreshadowed; ... Show more content on

The rain which is death the leaves which represent life, fell and rotted. Rain is a spontaneous thing and
is not scheduled, planned and is not in our power. Nature has a mind of its own and for humans or the
people in the war to have that power are supernatural which one cannot have that kind of power. Also,
humans are not capable of controlling life itself. If that were to happen in this world, there would be
chaos in power and no one would be able to die peacefully and obtain that beauty of dying a heroic
death. Life cannot be controlled and some people see death as a beauty for it takes humanity to God.
But in life, there are many things that have been with us but when we realize that it is gone, we are
burdened with our own sadness.
Ronald Oliver, a director said that Women don t know what they want. Men never know what they
have. The rain in the novel alters the characters mind to remind them of what they do not have. The
rain brings this quote into thought about what Henry sees and feels. You knew it rained down that
rained...my sweet love Catherine down might rain... (Hemingway, 197). When he says this, he s
looking at the rain and wishes that he could be in her arms and that he too could hold her one more
time in his arms. He sees the rain and sees his pains and wishes deeply that he

Wassily Kandinsky Research Paper
Research Paper: Wassily Kandinsky
Shelby Steinbach
Des Moines Area Community College
April 2017
Wassily Kandinsky has been part of my fascination and love for art for approximately ten years now.
Beginning when I was a freshman in high school, and every year as part of our art classes, my
instructor would do small units on art theory and highlight artists throughout those units, Kandinsky
included. While my talents, in particular, are somewhat limited to what I can represent, Kandinsky
was the first to break Western art s most important rule: that art need to depict anything (Frank, 396).
As the first to break away from art being representational, Kandinsky opened other avenues of
expression, as well (Wassily Kandinsky.org). Surrealism, the movement I am most fascinated by, is
something I believe is a natural extension from art representing nothing, to art representing multiple
things. Der Blaue Reiter, painted in 1903 is important for several reasons. Leaning more towards
Impressionism, it is one of the more famous paintings from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

On White II depicts a mesh of bold black forms, blocks of color with little shading or blending, and a
mixture of geometric and irregular shapes. Nearly as far from Impressionism as one could become,
this painting is supposed to reference the opportunities of life and how death can in so many and
various ways, take life away (Learnodo newtonic.com). The more abstract is form, the more clear and
direct is its appeal, are words not only written in the 1914 book by Kandinsky referenced throughout
my paper, but also shown clearly here in On White II (Concerning the Spiritual in Art, location 619).
More defined are the forms used in this painting than previous works, which supports the ideas held
by Kandinsky about

This is an anonymous rape survivor s story. These common occurrences affect a fair portion of the population in Missoula, in comparison to the national average, and something should be done. There is also a low number of people who are there to support and help the survivors of sexual assault. According to city data.com in 2014 the rape rate in Missoula was 68.9% and the U.S average was 27.2% per 100,000 pop. Missoula s rape rate has increased every year with a staggering 22.4% increase from 2013. While the U.S average increased by only 0.4% from 2013. During 2011 Missoula was also named the rape capital of America. (Crime Rate in Missoula, Montana). With that being said, why is Missoula the only city with a target on their back? The New York Times reported that a series of events led to a Federal Justice Department investigation into how the university, the City of Missoula, and Missoula County handle the reporting of sexual assaults. The results and conclusions depend on the children, not the parents or communities. • 7. Zefferelli s Interpretation Of Romeo And Juliet The original death scene in the play by Shakespeare was a major part of the story and people have remade this scene in many different ways. Some good interpretations of this scene are Romeo and Juliet (The shakespeare version), Romeo and Juliet (the Zefferelli version), and a piece of art called Romeo and Juliet: the Tomb Scene By Joseph Wright. Although these are accurate interpretations they have their differences. In the text Shakespeare puts a lot of emphasis on the role that fate plays in the way that Romeo and Juliet s unfortunate end. He does this to show that love conquers hate and that sometimes it takes a terrible event to stop the conflicts of the people that need it. Romeo there dead, was husband to that Juliet; and she, there dead, that Romeo s faithful wife. (Shakespeare 104) The death scene elaborates on this because if only one thing was changed their deaths could have been prevented and this whole ordeal wouldn t have been happening. • 8. Individualism Individualism TShifting to a more contemporary lense, Libertarian s ultimate priority of individual rights has evolved in present day America into a set of supplementary values called individualism. Although this principle is never mentioned in Hospers paper, his positions stated on personal liberties and self preservation serve as the foundation for this idea, which extends these rights to be applicable as a lifestyle where every decision is made strictly for someone s own personal benefit. (Boaz) Unsurprisingly, individualism also entails a resistance to all type of restrictive measures by authoritative powers, especially the obligation to provide assistance to another citizen financially or otherwise. (Boaz) In the Libertarian view, nobody should be forced to even tell someone the time of day if requested against their will. (Hospers, 331) In this sense, Individualism can be seen as the active exercise one s individual liberties. Furthermore, according to David Boaz of the Libertarian think tank The Cato Institute, individualism also gives a person the power to flourish on their own terms, and can also provide a sense of dignity , especially to underrepresented groups. (Boaz) Whether or not by design, this Libertarian emphasis on individualism is a theme that has become heavily ingrained into contemporary American life as the culture, economics, and politics of the country all have elements of this value. • 9. Marked Woman Deborah Tannen Summary Marked Women In Deborah Tannen s article There is No Unmarked Woman she focuses on how women are being misconceived and prejudged on solely the way they re dressed. The main point in the article is that there is no such thing as an unmarked woman men have the option and women simply do not. To be marked in the way Tannen states it is changing the meaning of a word by simply adding a participle, but that participle has no meaning on its own. Deborah Tannen points out that even in the English language marked is a staple of linguistic theory. By simply adding a linguistic participle to a word that already has no meaning by itself can change the meaning of a word. As Tannen states in her article that women must make a decision on how they wish to appear on a day to day basis through their makeup, hair style, shoes, clothes, etc. When women are choosing how to appear everyday they re trying to escape the preconceptions that men never really have to face due to more narrow decisions. Tannen makes a good statement when she refers to the research of Ralph Fasold in which men are actually marked. Fasold points out that girls are born with fully female bodies, while boys are born with modified female bodies. Tannen writes. In conclusion Tannen says how she s upset the ... Aside from the one room schoolhouse in Marshwood, Olyphant had progressed beyond that stage. This building was the centerpiece of the Olyphant School District. It had the look of a high school in a major city. At the time all of the streets in downtown Olyphant were paved with red brick. Most of the students lived within walking distance of the school. They were able to walk home to eat lunch. Therefore, no one ever thought of including a cafeteria in the building plans. It was built without a cafeteria or kitchen of any kind. When I attended, there was a lunchroom. It was in what was originally a classroom on the first floor of the annex. There were blackboards and chalk trays. There were folding tables and folding chairs for some students to sit and eat. There was no real kitchen. There was a counter. Behind the counter there was a refrigerator and a freezer. There also was a Stewart In Fra Red oven for heating Stewart Sandwiches. Stewart Sandwiches were pre made hamburgers, hotdogs and the like. They were marketed by Stewart In Fra Red, Inc., Harvard, Illinois. Infrared ovens were more readily available than microwave ovens, or radar ranges as they were called. • 11. The Irony Of The Sinner While traveling through Hell, Dante the pilgrim encountered numerous sinners on each level, all prepared to tell their tales of misfortune and transgression. However, though some ask Dante to remember them or tell their stories on Earth, most of them speak for their own gain, not simply to educate Dante on the penalties of their sins. Each sinner appears to wallow in the past, isolating themselves in their sin and occasionally ignoring Dante as a person entirely. Even when these sinners find themselves physically trapped together with another soul, they remain lonely and miserable in their suffering: they have deprived themselves of the forgiveness and love God offered them and now must find something else to love. As they have rejected God, these sinners still seek to fill that void of emptiness to which they have forever condemned themselves. In Dante Alighieri s Inferno, the irony of the sinner s contrappaso reflects the irony that, even in the suffering they have brought upon themselves, they have a misplaced love in their sin in place of the love God offered them. In Canto V, Dante encounters the Francesca and Paulo, who have thrown away their chance for heaven for one another, yet enjoyed the action of sinning itself more then each other s company. • 14. Amelia Earhart Disappearance Theory How could someone survive a plane crash? Since Amelia Earhart s disappearance, theories were developed trying to explain what was taken into effect, after there was no response from her in the Pacific ocean. Some either believe that Japanese troops kidnapped her, she died as a castaway, or that Earhart lived under another identity. In the end, Amelia Earhart did survive her attempted voyage around the world. Earhart s mysterious disappearance lead to different theories. One of those theories is that the Japanese kidnapped Amelia Earhart and her navigator Noonan, holding them captive. Earhart and Noonan were making a stop on Howland island, but before they arrived they lost connection with the U.S. Coast Guard. Years later, a picture was discovered in the U.S. National Archives displaying what is supposed Earhart and Noonan near Japanese troops. • 18. Capricorn By Max Ernst, Pokal ) By Balthasar Griessmann Artists do not create sculptures. They simply see an object and begin to mold or carve it, thus allowing that object to freely stand alone. Almost anything can be sculpted, but what makes a good monument is its ability to tell a story or cause contemplation without words. Two pieces at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City depict unique scenarios using lines, movement, balance, and value. Capricorn by Max Ernst and Pokal by Balthasar Griessmann use organization of the elements of form and principles of design to both narrate and describe intense ideologies. While both pieces have similarities such as being sculptured in the round and storytelling ability, the use of the elements and overall tones of the art works give each piece a unique quality. Max Ernst, a German artist born in the late 1890 s created Capricorn in 1948 using a Bronze casting system. The sculpture depicts a royal family, consisting of a man, a woman, and a small child (female). They man is sitting on what seems to be a throne, and is holding a massive cane. The woman sits next to the man on her own chair, in a very formal upright position, while the small girl sits on the man s lap. Max Ernst titled the work Capricorn , which relates to astrology and a constellation, suggesting a spiritual belief. • 19. My Mother Served As Minister Of Music Eleven years ago I walked into a church. From the outside it looked like your ordinary, everyday church, but on the inside...on the inside it felt like coming home. I went from a young girl wounded by the hypocrisy of well meaning church goers, to a woman on fire for God and ready to step out in my God given destiny as a warrior for the Lord. I have been a believer since the age of seven. I can remember the exact feeling as the Holy Spirit filled me with such longing to be a part of the family of God that I could barely sit still until the invitation to come forward was given. But even before that, I had been in church from infancy. My mother served as minister of music for many years, and church functions were as natural to me as breathing. But it does not take much for the tender heart to be wounded by those that no matter how well intentioned think they know better than God, and manage to impose their judgement and harsh words on others. I was too new to my walk, and too stuck at my traditional faith maturity level, to understand I should not confuse the people of God with the heart of God. I stopped going to church, and, often with the exception of times of struggle I did not even pray. I had no idea the relationship I was missing out on because, you see, the church I grew up in knew the Word of God but they failed to share the heart of God. Therefore, I saw the Lord only as my judge and jury, I did not understand the grace, mercy and goodness of God. I couldn t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Pride And Prejudice And Mr Collins Proposal In Jane Austen s novel, Pride and Prejudice, Mr Collins is shown as a comical man, who we as readers are not expected to take seriously throughout the novel. Mr Darcy is a much deeper character, and Austen uses him to portray divisions between classes. She uses their proposals firstly to highlight the difference in the attractions the men have towards Elizabeth, but secondly to emphasise the importance of social class within a marriage proposal. This is seen in the form she writes in the content of the proposals (dialogue in Collins s proposal versus free indirect discourse in Darcy s), and the structure of the proposals. The contrast between Mr Collins proposal and Mr Darcy s proposal is highlighted by the proposals varying styles, which shows the reader the emotions fuelling the proposals. Austen portrays Collins proposal as arrogant and rehearsed, and this juxtaposes Darcy s proposal which is portrayed as much more authentic. Collins during the proposal is described as having no feelings of diffidence (chap 19). Darcy, on the other hand, is tenser, even though in the Regency period it was rare for a woman of Elizabeth s status to ever turn down a man of his eligibility. Darcy s proposal is said, in an agitated manner . This shows that Darcy is expressing his feelings and is agitated because he is not sure they are reciprocated. Collins proposal is overly rehearsed, for example, he lists his reasons for wanting to marry Elizabeth, My reasons for marrying are, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Descriptive Essay On The Experience Of A City Our destination that afternoon was a place called Daylesford, which looked, wHen we arrived, more like a movie set than like an actual working town. The buildings on the main street were two stories tall, and made of wood, like buildings in the Old West, but brightly painted. Here was the shop selling handmade soaps shaped like petit fours. Here was the forgery, the jammery, your source for moisturizer. If Dodge City had been founded and maintained by homosexuals, this is what it might have looked like. The spas are fantastic, Pat said, and she parked the car in front of a puppet shop. From there we walked down a slight hill, passing a flock of sulfur crested cockatoos, just milling about, pulling worms from the front lawn of a bed and breakfast. This was the moment when familiarity slipped away, and Australia seemed not just distant but impossibly foreign. Will you look at that, I said. It was Pat who had made the lunch reservation. The restaurant was attached to a hotel, and on arriving we were seated beside a picture window. The view was of a wooden deck and, immediately beyond it, a small lake. On a sunny day, it was probably blinded, but the winter sky was like brushed aluminum. The water beneath it had the same dull sheen, and its surface reflected nothing. • 24. The Minister’s Black Veil by Nathaniel Hawthorne One of literatures greatest quality is allowing the reader s mind to uncover subliminal messages in an attempt to form their own understandings and ideas. Perhaps, this particular process is commonly described in the idiom reading between the lines. While many writers have implanted this literary aspect into their works, this essay focuses on a specific parable written by Nathaniel Hawthorne entitled The Minister s Black Veil. Notably, a parable is a simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson. The characters and setting of which Hawthorne uses to get his point across creates an overwhelming atmosphere that increases the power of his message. In this parable, Mr. Hooper gives an invisible element in sin a physical appearance in the black veil which now makes his sin a connection between himself, God, and the townspeople. It is apparent that Mr. Hooper is dealing with some sort of internal conflict and his way of confronting his issue is by covering his face from everyone with the black veil. Lastly, there are several themes in The Minister s Black Veil relating to topics including sin, guilt, fear, and judgment. The first theme focuses on people s reaction to change. Soon after Mr. Hooper covers his face, people secluded themselves from him and gave him bewildered stares even after he showed them courtesy. Likewise, his wife Elizabeth left him after she failed to persuade him to abandon the black veil. The narrator also explains how Mr. Hooper created a group of converts as well as how people at their deathbed would not take their last breath until they received consolation from Mr. Hooper. Strangers began to travel from long distances just to hear his sermons and gaze at his figure. Another theme found in The Minister s Black Veil is that people fear what they do not know and do not understand. The mystery of the black veil perhaps was the biggest thing that intimidated the townspeople. Mr. Hooper is overcome with the same horror as the townspeople when he catches a glimpse of himself. The youth believes that if they imitate these cynosures they will become affluent and legendary. Famous people imply that if the youth act insubordinately they will be successful in life. Celebrities of today are not appropriate role models for this generation. A celebrity is a famous or well known person, someone who has fame or is renowned (dictionary.com). When people think of a celebrity they think of someone they would see on television, in magazines, or here about on the radio; those are the celebrities I am referring to here, but those aren t the only celebrities out there. There are also other interpretations for the word celebrity. My favorite alternative to the typical thought of a celebrity is the term local celebrity. A local celebrity or hometown celebrity doesn t have to be rich or world famous, they are known for doing something that has either impacted the local area or has made his/her hometown proud. My focus is on the quintessential definition of celebrity, the ones that are known for their influence on the current generation, my generation. The current generation is easily influenced because it is completely focused on being accepted by society and trying to find ones individual identity. The youth of my generation believe that their identity is based on society s acceptance; not on their own thoughts, desires, and opinions of themselves. In Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451, Montag leaves his past, ultimately changing the way he thinks. In the passage Montag has just escaped the Hound as well as his previous life, and is being carried away by the river into the forest while thinking about his future. The revelation in this passage is a culmination of all the knowledge that Montag acquires throughout the book. It burned time.... So if he burnt things with the firemen, and the sun burnt Time, that meant that everything burnt! (Bradbury 140 141). The burning of the sun and it s likening to time and how the firemen and Montag burn tells that too much is being burned as well as destroyed. At this point the change within Montag is completed, and is shown by the metaphor of Now the guild of the asbestos weaver must open shop very soon (Bradbury 141). The guild of asbestos weavers refers to the intellectuals in his past community, who need to come forth and share the good that comes from having individual knowledge. Bradbury ends the metaphor with telling the reader that the weavers must open shop very soon, making the reader aware that change needs to happen. And this begins by coming forth with knowledge and stopping the firemen. Somewhere the saving and putting away had to begin again and someone had to do the saving and keeping (Bradbury 141), as he realizes the importance of preserving books and gleaning important information and knowledge from them. This perfect world is twisted in that the roles of gender have a traditional utopian representation, only with a more contemporary take. Of course, this is interesting because this book was written and published in the 19th century when such ideas were beginning to establish a form for the genre of writing. Throughout most of the novel, she is seen as very masculine (in comparison to traditional roles that is) yet very feminine at the same time. She has a mystical illusion about her yet seems very sensible in the ways of life. Will do, sir Will do, sir Great, ascend to the battlegrounds with your telepathy power. By the way, your powers have been increased to Corporal levels, so you can fight however you please. From there, we ascended to the battlegrounds once more to end this horrendous war. We just started walking towards the colonel of the Yasmistan army. Anytime someone tried to make a move towards us, they would be shunted away. We approached the colonel. Sir, we would like to construct a peace treaty between Buscausia and Yasmistan. You try and kill us, all of your men will drop dead in an instant. What is your decision. Thank god one of you came, I m a Buscaisian myself, but I was forced into the army. I ascended ranks until I was a colonel. I waited and waited for this day to come. Yes a peace treaty may be crafted. Other basic components which we used are power supply, Light Dependent Resistor (LDR), Relay and Light emitting diodes (LEDs) which we are using in place of a light bulb. A. 555 Timer IC The 555 timer IC is an integrated circuit (chip) used in a variety of timer, pulse generation, and oscillator applications. The 555 can be used to provide time delays, as an oscillator, and as a flip flop element. Derivatives provide up to four timing circuits in one package. The IC was designed in 1971 by Hans R. Camenzind under contract to Signetics, which was later acquired by Philips. Depending on the manufacturer, the standard 555 package includes 25 transistors, 2 diodes and 15 resistors on a silicon chip installed in an 8 pin mini dual inline package. Variants available include the 556 (a 14 pin DIP I. INTRODUCTION treet lighting provides a safe night time environment for all road users including pedestrians. • 46. A Experiment On Magnetic Field Theory A magnetic field is an area in which there is an electrical charge where a magnetic force acts. A magnetic field can be induced in a circular loop and it can be calculated if the radius, current, and number of turns are all known. When in the form of a coil it is directed along the axis of the coil and is usually uniform throughout the coil until it begins to fall off when it gets further away from the center. Another characteristic of magnetic field is that it can be changed to induce a voltage. That induced voltage is known as the magnetic flux and it can be calculated by knowing the area of the coil and the value of the magnetic field going through the coil. Experimental Procedure This experiment was broken up into four different parts. It began by verifying the connections and understanding the direction of the sensor. The next section measured the field versus the current and the purpose of this was to find the value of the vacuum magnetic constant μ0 by using the measured magnetic field and the current of the coil. In the following portion of the experiment the purpose was to measure the rate at which the magnetic field drops off as the sensor is moved away from the cell. The final part of the experiment had one use a magnet to change the field of the coil so that a voltage could be induced and measured. Results The experiment began by connecting the magnetic field sensor to the universal lab interface and setting it to 6.4mT. Once the field was set up a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Market Share Of The Enterprise Software This is how 2015 market share of the enterprise software looked like for the top 10 vendors of total $320B in product revenues. Gartner s 2Q16 forecast shows that 2016 global spending for enterprise software will be $367.5 billion in constant U.S. dollars. Large organizations as well as small startups have been focusing on the enterprise segment. Once consumer only products like iPhone (for business) and Android (for work) are now enterprise ready and widely used for businesses in the large organizations. Moreover, the business model shift from a legacy on premises to the cloud based SaaS model is evident and that is enabling both, businesses as well as vendors, to be agile, work from everywhere, reduce maintenance/ownership cost and quickly scale to the evolving business demands. It s not surprising that nowadays virtually every enterprise software offers a flavor of cloud or SaaS solution. Though as of today most of the enterprise softwares are still sold traditionally where CIO/CXO and business relations play crucial roles, but the market shift, workforce sentiment/satisfactions can t be ignored for long. As a result, established players and leaders in the segment are changing and pulling up their sleeves to deliver modern and competitive products. Contrary to what Paul Graham said in 2007, today enterprise software companies are also trying to be technology companies. However, building enterprise software always has been challenging. • 48. Rhetorical Analysis Of Haruki Murakami s Colorless... Readers heavily associate famed Japanese author Haruki Murakami with the genre of magical realism and consider his novel Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage to be a departure from that genre, but realism hardly characterizes Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and its multitude of fantastical elements. Readers encounter dreams that ambiguously blend into reality, characters who straddle multiple realities, and a narrative that unabashedly abandons a linear and chronological structure. Even Murakami s protagonist Tsukuru struggles to maintain a clear sense of reality within his life. Ultimately, Murakami s conception of an objective reality is a mirage solid and unwavering from afar but upon closer inspection, nothing is what it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Murakami creates an intersection between these two antithetical realities through Shiro s pregnancy. After her rape allegedly by Tsukuru Shiro becomes pregnant. Her pregnancy represents a junction between the two realities because it is a real and physical consequence that manifests in Tsukuru s reality based on an act committed in Shiro s reality. Although Murakami presents the reality in which Tsukuru is the victim first, he never fully gives one reality preeminence over the other as the plot unfolds. Instead, even Tsukuru finds himself unable to pick which of these realities represents an objective truth. Furthermore, Murakami prevents his audience from assuming the supremacy of either Tsukuru or Shiro s realities by paralleling their journeys as victims. After his friends abandon him, Tsukuru loses his appetite and consequently loses a massive amount of weight. Similarly, after her assault, Shiro develops such a severe eating disorder that at one point [...] she was down to under ninety pounds (Murakami 252). Moreover, Tsukuru develops an unwavering obsession with his own death during his depression, and, likewise, their childhood friend Kuro equates Shiro s death with committing suicide (Murakami 257) because she no longer had the will to live even before her murder. The most poignant parallel Murakami introduces between Tsukuru and Shiro s journeys as victims is that after Shiro s assault, she d lost her glow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. The Motif of Ernest Hemingway´s A Farewell to Arms The world contains many recurring events that remind humans of morals or things that are important. In the novel A Farewell to Arms many events come again and again. Usually, these events that repeat or come again have a deeper message inscribed in the text. This is not unlike whereas the novel The Great Gatsby has weather that unfailingly matches up with the tone and mood of the text. The author Ernest Hemingway has created A Farewell to Arms with a motif that is very precise. The motif of rain and nature in Hemingway s novel divulges that there are things that a human beings cannot control; making them recognize what they lack and how life can bring sadness. The constant appearance of rain allows for sadness to be foreshadowed; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The rain which is death the leaves which represent life, fell and rotted. Rain is a spontaneous thing and is not scheduled, planned and is not in our power. Nature has a mind of its own and for humans or the people in the war to have that power are supernatural which one cannot have that kind of power. Also, humans are not capable of controlling life itself. If that were to happen in this world, there would be chaos in power and no one would be able to die peacefully and obtain that beauty of dying a heroic death. Life cannot be controlled and some people see death as a beauty for it takes humanity to God. But in life, there are many things that have been with us but when we realize that it is gone, we are burdened with our own sadness. Ronald Oliver, a director said that Women don t know what they want. Men never know what they have. The rain in the novel alters the characters mind to remind them of what they do not have. The rain brings this quote into thought about what Henry sees and feels. You knew it rained down that rained...my sweet love Catherine down might rain... (Hemingway, 197). • 51. Wassily Kandinsky Research Paper Research Paper: Wassily Kandinsky Shelby Steinbach Des Moines Area Community College April 2017 Wassily Kandinsky has been part of my fascination and love for art for approximately ten years now. Beginning when I was a freshman in high school, and every year as part of our art classes, my instructor would do small units on art theory and highlight artists throughout those units, Kandinsky included. While my talents, in particular, are somewhat limited to what I can represent, Kandinsky was the first to break Western art s most important rule: that art need to depict anything (Frank, 396). As the first to break away from art being representational, Kandinsky opened other avenues of expression, as well (Wassily Kandinsky.org). Surrealism, the movement I am most fascinated by, is something I believe is a natural extension from art representing nothing, to art representing multiple things.
