White Males And The American Writers
In this nature writing course and in all my literature courses there haven t been many African
American writers represented. This isn t because they don t exist, but because the more commonly
known writers have the attributes of being more respected, and are widely accepted writers in
American literature, who majority of the time are white males like Thoreau and Leopold. These are
just examples, and they are good writers but there are also good African American writers that deserve
just as much representation when teaching college courses. There s a greater choice of writers besides
having the same works of authors we ve already read throughout our experience in studying literature.
There needs to be a better variety of cultures represented in literature, white males shouldn t always be
the most read and studied authors in public institutions. Minorities should be represented too,
especially African American writers since they played such a great role in the American history, and
endured so much oppression from the society they ve lived in. In this course, Nature Writing at
metropolitan University, we had a variety of different races, but the Black race didn t get the
representation they deserved. There was a writing titled, from a black boy by Wright, and it wasn t a
good representation of Black writers in America. I remember reading it and questioning what I just
read; because it didn t have any emotion or deeper meaning like most the other readings we studied. In

The Curse Of The Poisoned Pretzel Analysis
Its a Doughy Situation
Food, the backbone of a community, the foundation on which an empire stands, or even the soulmate
of a society. Although I may be straying from the topic, food is technically where this story began.
Two brothers, one rich, sucessful, brawny, and has a knack for snacks. The other, sad, closed off,
creepy, and not surprising, does not have a knack for snacks or sweets. Two opposites, the story not
complete without the other. Now the story would not be complete without one becoming completely
jealous and despising the other. Commonly this leads to several things such as arguing, fighting, or to
better put it, leads to betrayal. Betrayal, a common theme among siblings, say one thing do another, it
s inevitable. In The Curse of the Poisoned Pretzel , Skidmore (creepy brother) is accused of murdering
his brother Manchester (snack knacker), yet did he do it? The author of this story portrays interesting
attributes to compell readers to point fingers towards Skidmore without actually saying Skidmore s
guilty. During the introduction of Skidmore, the inevitably creepy individual, the fact that the author
calls him creepy , or saying He gave everyone the creeps already makes Skidmore out to seem like a
bad guy. Now this may not be a direct attack on Skidmore as being guilty for his brothers murder, but
character introductions always foreshadows that characters purpose in the story. Whe someone
suddenly dies, who happens to have a creepy, all black wearing

Essay on The Negative Affects of Cell Phone Use
Introduction With 87 percent of American adults owning a cell phone (Jerpi, 2013), it becomes
obvious that cell phones have become a staple device in today s society. Although cell phones offer
convenience, they arguably come with negative affects. Cell Phones have become one of the fastest
emerging technologies (Campbell, 2006). With 87 percent of American adults and teenagers owning a
cell phone (Jerpi, 2013), it becomes obvious that cell phones have become a staple device in today s
society. Since the release of the first cell phone, they have immensely evolved and some would say,
have become an essential to everyday life. Although cell phones offer convenience, they arguably
come with negative and impactful effects on our social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently, people who text a lot may be more uncomfortable with in person communication.
Taking this information into account, it becomes clear that cell phones have essentially decreased face
to face socialization and have socially affected those who use cell phones as a main source of
communication. Along with the absence of face to face social interaction, arises the issue of resolving
problems via text rather than in person. Cell phones have provided a way to hide behind technology
from emotionally distressing events, such as ending relationships (Campbell, 2005). Impact on
Education According to Lenhart, in 2012 three quarters of teens, ages 12 17, owned cell phones. Of
those teens, twenty three percent of them indicated they possessed a smartphone. With the technology
advancing in cell phones, it has become yet another classroom distraction and a serious concern for
cheating. With cell phones on hand, it has created an easy way to become distracted during class.
Assistant Professor Campbell from the University of Kansas brought to attention, one study found that
a third of university students in the US play video games on their mobile phones and laptops during
class (Gilroy, 2004 as cited in Katz, 2005). The majority of researchers have found that mobile phones
have lead to problematic use in the school environment

Stratification Of Social Class And Youth And The Life...
Stratification of social class in the media
Social class stratification continues to have a very important role in the life of people living in the U.S.
and all around the world. The different class of people in the U.S. is based on several reasons. For this
essay, we are going to examine the socio economic background, level of education of the youth and
the life style of an individual. A good question is how does the social class stratification originates?,
why do middle class youths turn to be more successful than working class youths? Children get their
first exposure of what society is all about from their parents who is the primary group. The school,
teachers, and community serves as the secondary group and has an impact on the development of the
child. It is during the up bringing of a child that the mores of the society should be assimilated. Failure
to do so, the child becomes unproductive and feels rejected by the society and unfortunately, this child
might end up with a deviant character.
On average, educated people earn more than those who are not educated, and their wealth and
knowledge gain is passed to their generation. To have a quality life people need to be educated. The
more skills an individual acquires the better chances his/her has to be successful. The community and
the life style of a child affect his/her progress, the kind of neighborhood or friend a child makes will
influence the direction this child will take. Diverse communities hold different

The Importance Of Evidence Based Practice In Nursing
Evidence based practice in nursing includes blending clinical judgment and expertise with the best
available research and patient characteristics and preference. (Treas Wilkinson,2014, p. 104) It
requires a transition from nursing care that is base on opinions, past practices, and tradition to practice
that is base on scientific research and proven evidence. (Catalano, 2015, p. 589) The goal of evidence
based practice is to improve the quality of care by identifying the most cost efficient treatments for a
particular disease. The process of evidence based includes formulating answerable questions example
would be interventions, conducting a systematic review of research, evaluating the quality of evidence
obtained, compiling and analyzing the data to prepare a structured report review, translating the
evidence into guidelines for practice, and integrating the guidelines and evidence with clinical
expertise and the patient s preference and characteristics. (Treas Wilkinson, 2014, p. 104) Choose

Rhino Poaching And The Exotic Animal Trade
Would you change your lifestyle to save the existence of a species? In western society, it is our
lifestyle to go to the doctors when you are sick, drive to work and buy food from a grocery store. It is
hard to remember that around the globe there are different customs and ways of life. A lot of people
make the means to live by working the land, owning their own shops, fishing, and hunting animals.
Poachers in Africa make their living by hunting elephants, lions, rhinos, and other exotic animals.
Countries in Asia, like Vietnam and China, have been using rhino horn medicinally for generations.
Would they be willing to change their entire lifestyle to save the existence of a species? I analyzed an
image created by the World Wildlife Fund that addresses rhino poaching and the exotic animal trade.
There are two subjects in this image, the rhino and those within the rhino. The rhino is being captured
by people, but at the same time, its horn is already being removed. I think that this represents the huge
market for rhino horn. We are collecting as much horn as we can as fast as we can do it. This idea of
our insatiable appetite for exotic animal products is also reinforced by how the horn is being removed.
Somebody, with a chainsaw, is cutting off the horn below the base of it. This unsustainable practice
will kill the animal. If the horn was cut above the base it would grow back and the rhino could
continue on, but it is common for poachers to remove as much horn as

Differences Between Evangelical And Liberal And Neo...
OOver the centuries, as some Christians grew more and more doubtful about the possibility of ancient
orthodox beliefs in the contemporary, critical world. Could they preach the old, old story in a new,
new world in which the way of thinking was supposedly more sophisticated than in the early,
medieval or Reformation worlds? Would the modern world accept traditional beliefs like the Trinity,
the unity of Jesus in two natures, the total wickedness of humans and the strict, substitutionary
atonement (Bingham, p. 150)? In the paper I will compare and contrast Evangelical, Liberal, and Neo
Orthodox views as it relates to scriptures. Next in this paper will discuss analyze the strengths and
weaknesses of each of the three movements.
The term evangelical comes from the Greek, meaning the good news or the gospel. the evangelical
faith focuses on the good news of salvation brought to sinners by Jesus Christ. Evangelicals have five
convictions are at the base of the faith of those associated with the movement. First, they believe that
the Bible is the supreme authority for faith and practice. Second, they believe in the essential of new
birth, an experience of conversion through grace. Third, they believe in the centrality of the redeeming
work of Christ. Fourth, they believe in the pressing need to evangelize the world. Fifth, they believe
that the church is a community of believers in dwelt by the Holy Spirit (Voskuil).

The Behavioral Health Care Systems
Today, health care systems continue to face challenges when it comes to implementing mental health
services, that can properly treat mental illnesses such as generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). The
structure of these systems that fail to integrate or prepare clinicians to work with both mental health
cases, and basic health concerns impede with the potential of giving quality services overall. There is
an immense need to incorporate an improved system that would better serve this client population. It
is fundamental to introduce behavioral health reform within these health care systems that can
pinpoint barriers that essentially create gaps in treatment for GAD. Recognizing these discrepancies
can serve to explore alternative outlets that promote the necessary changes needed to ensure the
availability of adequate help for their mental health condition.
As we take into account the behavioral health services that are available to individuals who suffer
from generalized anxiety disorder, particular attention should be given to the quality, and delivery of
mental health services provided by primary care physicians/providers. The methods, and skills utilized
by these practitioners should be highly considered, as they are key to the recovery of clients.
Unfortunately, this is not the case for many primary care providers (PCP) who predominantly serve
the GAD clientele. According to Posmontier, and Breiter (2012) primary care providers who try to
administer mental health services

Gloria Naylor s Mama Day Essay
Gloria Naylor s Mama Day
Gloria Naylor s Mama Day takes place in two distinct environments, each characterized by the beliefs
and ideologies of the people who inhabit the seemingly different worlds. The island of Willow
Springs, comprised solely by the descendants of slaves, is set apart from the rest of the United States
and is neither part of South Carolina nor Georgia. As such, its inhabitants are exempt from the laws of
either state and are free to govern themselves as they see fit. Only a worn out bridge built in 1920
connects the inhabitants to the mainland, but the people of Willow Springs are entirely self sufficient.
They believe in the ways of their African ancestors and respect the heritage of Sapphira Wade, the

While urban life places great value on being self reliant, the people of Willow Springs depend upon
Mama Day and other forces to help them in their time of need. When Bernice falls sick after taking
fertility pills, it is Mama Day who correctly diagnoses her problem and nurses her back to health.
Although conventional medicine prescribed by Dr. Smithfield is used in severe cases, Mama Day s
herbal mixtures are quite effective for most of the problems her patients encounter. Much of the
effectiveness of her herbal remedies stem from her strong belief in their worth and from the
willingness of her patients to believe in her and all that she represents. For example, Bernice is
adamant in her belief that she will become pregnant if she visits the other place with Mama Day.
Before taking her to the other place, however, Mama Day buys Bernice some time by giving her
magic seeds and advising her to engage in daily rigorous chores. When Abigail questions Mama Day s
use of pumpkin seeds, Mama Day replies:
The mind is a funny thing, Abigail and a powerful thing at that. Bernice is gonna believe they are what

The Importance Of Perseverance In Rita Hayworth And The...
Perseverance, the motivation of doing something that consists of difficult objectives or something can
set back the main course of achieving a task. A novella about two convicted inmates and how one
gutsy inmate named Andy Dufresne escapes the Shawshank Prison. His buddy Red had run alongside
his decision and helped him through it, even though Red was the only one in the prison to truthfully
admit that Andy did not do it. Andy did not kill his wife and her lover. Elwood Blatch had committed
the crime. Elwood was a former cellmate of Tommy Williams in another prison, and Elwood would
like to brag about such crimes he committed and Tommy was present at the time of his confession. So
Tommy then later informed Andy about it in the Shawshank State Prison. In Rita Hayworth and the
Shawshank Redemption wrote by Stephen King , the main focus is perseverance. Perseverance is
present in this novella, and present in most of the characters. Their motivation and determination
thrown towards a goal that might be far fetched, but in time can be attained. The two characters that
had maintained perseverance throughout the novella were, Andy Dufresne and Red. Then I will put in
my own take on perseverance.
Andy Dufresne, his time at the Shawshank prison had most indefinitely affected all the inmates and
guards in the prison, Andy was sent to prison for the murder of his wife, Linda, and her lover, Glenn
Quentin. Although there is a twist to this scenario, despite the fact that Dufresne

Niemann Pick Disease Essay
Niemann Pick Disease
Niemann Pick Disease is an autosomal recessive disease, passed down through carrier parents, where
lipids gather in the cells of the spleen, liver, and brain creating an obstruction. There are four known
forms of the disease, Type A, Type B, Type C, and Type D, in which Type A and B compose Type I
and Type C and D make up Type II. Type A and B are a response to the lack of the enzyme acid
sphingomyelinase(ASM) which metabolizes sphingomyelin. When there is an absence of
sphingomyelinase the excess build up of sphingomyelin kills multiple cells stopping organ function.
Symptoms of Type A include: abdominal swelling, redness in the eye, feeding difficulties, and loss of
motor skills. Type A is the more severe of situations, not offering ... Show more content on

If Type C symptoms are present before the age of 1 it is not likely that the child will live to be five, if
symptoms arise during the school age it is possible that the child lives into their late teens, and in
some cases into their twenties. Type D is a variant of Type C, and is caused by a mutation in the NPC2
gene, creating, an abnormality in the interaction between cholesterol and brain cells. Type C is often
noticed affecting Puerto Ricans, while Type D is frequently observed to affect French Canadians. Type
II is most commonly diagnosed with a skin biopsy, in which skin cells would be observed while in the
process of moving and storing cholesterol. In Addition, other tests that may be performed are: bone
marrow aspiration, a liver biopsy, slit lamp eye exam, and sphingomyelinase assays. Miglustat has
been given as treatment for Type C patients to decelerate the nervous system symptoms, but there is
no treatment yet for Type D. Due to the mutations in DNA of Type C it is probable that a fetus could
be diagnosed while in the womb in specialized centers. Since both parents are carriers of this gene
mutation, there is a 25% chance their child will have this disease, and a 50% chance the

Driving Under The Influence Of Impairing And Driving
CJM 309 paper 5 Kevin
Driving under the influence of alcohol brings fatalities. The National Highway, traffic, and Safety
administration have the mandate of carrying out research geared towards achieving safety in the
American highways. According to the National Highway, traffic Safety Administration (2013),
alcoholic impairment whilst driving depends on the driver s blood alcohol concentration (BAC).
According to National Highway, traffic Safety Administration (2013), a BAC higher or equal to.08
g/dl renders the driver impaired and thus should not operate any vehicle or any machinery in this state.
Therefore, deaths arising out of scenarios involving an alcohol impaired driver brings forth alcoholic
impaired fatalities. According to National Highway, traffic Safety Administration (2013), such
fatalities does not occur solely on the notion that alcohol impairment caused it, but also that a driver
harboring a BAC of 0.8 or higher was involved in the accident. In 2013, NHTSA determined that
alcohol impairment resulted to about 10,070 deaths. This number amounted to about 30 percent of the
total number of traffic related deaths in that year. The numbers above indicate that each fatality took
place after every 52 minutes throughout the course of the year 2013. Alcohol ... Show more content on

the drivers involved in alcohol impaired driving below 24 years. Drivers aged 25 to 34 cover thirty

Problem: 15,748,001 tons of wood are put into landfills every year. That s 15,748,001 tons of wood
that we could be using instead of dumping. In England 2013, 4.6 million tons of wood were put into
landfills. Furthermore, that wood was not just chemically treated scrap wood; 1.5 million tons are
untreated and solid. That wood is overflowing landfills in our community, and the community doesn t
know what to do with it or how to get rid of it. Solution: Our coach had access scrap wood from a
local building site. We decided not to just throw away the wood and become another statistic, but
rather to turn it into something useful for our community. Puzzles! These puzzles are made out of
100% scrap wood and environmentally friendly paint. We hope to help significantly reduce the
amount of wood ending up in landfills. If everyone contributes, we can make the only wood in

The Characteristics Of John Wooden s Definition Of Success
John Wooden once said, Success is peace of mind attained only through self satisfaction and knowing
you ve made the effort, do the best of what you re capable. This quote is relevant to the question of
what success is to me. This is relevant to the question of what is the definition of success because John
Wooden s definition of success is near perfect. To give you a better understanding, I will use three
different traits from the Pyramid of Success. I will explain to you why these are related to success.
Finally, I will use examples from the skype that our History in the Movies class had with former
basketball player, Bobby Plump. The first trait from the Pyramid of Success that I think creates
success is Confidence. I think confidence is a really big deal when it comes to success. If you come
into a sports game and you believe that you and your team will come out victorious, than you and your
team will play at higher levels. It doesn t matter if the challengers have more talent, it matters who has
more heart. When Bobby Plump put up a shot when he played basketball, he didn t this it was going to
miss, he thought it was going through the net every single time. In the movie Hoosiers, when Jimmy
Chitwood (Bobby Plump), shot the ball, he could be moving, fading away, or the shot could be heavily
contested and he would miss sometimes. But after all, he kept shooting because he was confident.
Confidence doesn t just pass for sports, it is also a trait you should hold

The Pros And Cons Of Pollution
Pollution is a serious global issue that has been occurring for as long as humans have inhabited the
planet. There are many different varieties of pollution, as well as an abundance of materials, both
natural and synthetic, that the earth has been contaiminated with. Shifrin ( 2005), states: To date,
wastes remain a fact of life and there are only three places to dispose of wastes air, water, or land.
Waste management always involves tradeoffs. (p. 676). Even though Shifrin is correct in his analysis,
it does not excuse the amount of environmental poison that continues to exist today, nor the amount of
environmental problems that it has caused throughout history. The tradeoffs of pollution have
devastated entire communities, causing waves of sickness and death in their wake. According to
Shifrin (2005): Water borne contagious disease still caused devastating epidemics in the early 1900s,
compounded by growing, congested populations. Air pollution also grew to a high priority by
midcentury because its impact was so observable and immediate. (p. 676). Generally, these diseases
were spread through poor sanitary practices as well as the overwhelming volume of pollution that was
generated by so many indivduals with little knowledge about what the adverse effects on the overall
environment would be.

Does The Internet Foster Isola Essay example
One of the most talked, known and controversial issues today is the Internet. Internet is a large
network made up of a number of smaller networks. Almost every computer in an educational facility
and in home and small office use is connected to some type of a network. People spent a lot of time on
the Internet, which may make them seem isolated. However, the Internet does not foster isolation,
because it may be used for many different things like communication, education, problem solving and
etc.
The concept for the Internet was to make a link in to a new world, a world that has many different
opportunities within its self. To gives the people options to go to China, Italy, and Egypt without
spending a lot of money on the trip. To open ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Internet provides just that. This may seem like isolation because no physical contact is present,
and some or all of the things that are said might not be true. This is a misconception. People that are
talking face to face with one another might be lying or might not be; the same is said for the Internet
conversations. People whose physical handicaps make it difficult to form new friendships find that
virtual communities treat them as they always wanted to be treated (Rheingold 206). Equality and
understanding is the key, and the virtual community provides that and much more.
Advice is also one of the keys for equality and understanding. As we all know advice in today s world

How Did Pablo Picasso And Georges Braque Revolutionize...
Throughout the first decade of the twentieth century, a group of young painters, Pablo Picasso and
Georges Braque developed something which was to revolutionize modern art. In 1907 Pablo Picasso
painted the huge canvas les Demoiselles d Avignon Both his laborious preparation for it has confirmed
his dedication towards it so. The painting represents not only a new phase in Picassos art but the
beginning of truly modern art. It is also the first cubist work. In this painting he used distortion of

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Agricultural Subsidies...
1. Introduction
Subsidies are a controversial subject worldwide, but especially the agricultural subsidies in the
European Union (EU) have been involved in a controversial debate for years. The selling price of
farming products in Europe is extremely low, and farmers in Western European countries have been
struggling because the current price level could not cover their expenses. The local farmers would not
have been able to compete with the much cheaper prices of imported food, and would be forced to
diversify by now if nothing had changed. In order to keep farming existing as a profession in Western
Europe, the EU decided to help the farmers by providing an agricultural subsidy.
Both advantages and disadvantages have occurred due to this solution. Whereas some argue that
subsidies are good for the economy as a whole, others preach the exact opposite. Therefore the aim of
this paper is to determine whether the advantages of agricultural subsidy outweigh the ... Show more

The CAP is the Common Agricultural Policy, which is the agricultural policy of the European Union.
It was founded in 1962, but was reformed greatly, especially in 1992 and 2005. One of the main tasks
of the CAP is to implement agricultural subsidies, which are more essential now than ever. Emerging
markets were growing more rapidly and this gave them a chance to infiltrate the European market
much more quickly than expected. Emerging markets can sell their agricultural products for a cheaper
price than the local farmers, because their production costs are much lower. Consumers preferred this
lower price, and this resulted in a lower pricing standard than the local farmers could afford. Local
farmers could not compete with the farmers from emerging markets and therefore globalisation led to
the reformation of the CAP accompanied by farming

Life in Las Vegas Essay
Life in Las Vegas
Hell is expensive. This is my first thought as my plane lands in Las Vegas. The
Luxor hotel s glass pyramid seems dangerously close to the runway s edge, as do its chocolate and
gold sphinx and rows of shaved palms. I wonder if these rooms tremble when jets land. Behind the
Luxor are mountains kissed by dust the hue of bone; to its left lies the Strip, where color is so bright it
looks like it has died, rotted, and come back as a poisonous flower.
I have been forewarned. First, I am told flying in at noon is not the way to enter Vegas. Correct entry
is at night. This way I would have the full treatment of neon and glowing sky. As a child, I was taught
not to buy into anything at night. The spoiled, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There s a small but steady amount of suicides we call jumpers, states Sgt.
Bill Keeton of Metro Police. They re generally tourists. Some jump off an overpass, even Hoover
Dam, but casinos are first choice. Balconies. The hotels wised up. Roofs stay locked.
Las Vegas has other names for its fatalities. Snowbirds are retirees from the
Northwest who settle here or come to gamble their pension funds. Downwinders are former Utah
residents fighting cancer who lived downwind of radioactive breezes in the fifties and sixties. Nuclear
testing was only one desert valley away; like the airport now, it was so close hotel rooms shook.
It s not necessarily gamblers, Keeton goes on. Just people who ve planned one last fling. We used to
get a lot from Los Angeles. Now it s people from all over the world. We had a young man fly in from
Ireland. On his immigration card, it said he seemed either on drugs or depressed. He came here and
went to a pistol range, shot targets for a while, then took his gun into a bathroom and killed himself.
His family in Ireland kept asking, why Las Vegas? At that same pistol range, a man from Japan shot
himself in his shooting stall. It s strange.
I hear other stories. Of a wealthy man from Malibu, in the computer business, who committed suicide
with sleeping pills and a plastic bag, in a luxury suite at the Mirage. His body was found next to the
room s baby grand piano. He had bad relations with his ex wife.

The Common Types Of Phobias
ISLAMOPHOBIA
Phobias are a type of a phsycological disorder that occurs in humans, it has several types,
classifications and categories. As we all know, phobias are extreme types of fear, usually of
unreasonable proportions and of the most ordinary of things. Some phobias are considered to be
common phobias that can happen to people often. There are several common types of phobias such as
spider phobia, snake phobia, flying phobia germ phobia. We can almost understand why and how a

As a result, they will most likely discriminate against people they perceive to be outsiders. Although
in group preference does not automatically require being hostile against the other people, in group
preference and out group hostility are enhanced by external threats (Cashdan 2001). Since threats are
often known to arise from the outsiders it can be expected that disasters have the ability to increase
group loyalty. This paper will discuss a type of phobia which is Isalmaphobia and its effect.
ISLAMOPHOBIA Previous we said that phobias are fears that are extreme and unreasonable in
nature. When the term Islamophobia was first used in a 1991 Runnymede Trust Report, it was taken to
mean the unfounded hostility towards Muslims, and therefore, fear or dislike of all or most Muslims
(Center for Race Gender n.d.). This was first used within the situation of Muslim existence in the U.K.
and Europe. However, we find in that hostility is the primary element for this phobia and it appears to
be bigger in weight over the actual fear itself. It is aimed at a group of people foreign to one s own.
Finally, Islamophobia is unique because its considered as unfounded fear, there are some reasons that
propose that Islamophobia has evolved into a racist phenomenon.
Justifications for Islamophobia
Based on the justifications above, we will attempt to explain why Islamophobia

Concussions And Side Effects Of Concussions In The NFL
In 2012 over 3.8 million concussions were reported, double of what it was just ten years earlier. With
the recent increase of technology in those years we are now able to notice that this is a major issue.
These injuries can be life changing and perhaps the scariest part is that they ve been around longer
than the games they occur in themselves. In the past, players would be hit by a 250 pound man
running at full speed with their head thrown around and just walk it off , maybe sitting out for a couple
of plays. Within the last few years, the National Football League has been under heavy pressure to do
more to prevent and diagnose these concussions. However, even with these recent advances that have
been made, the NFL is still not doing enough as it continues to avoid any claims of responsibility. Just
recently, a large group containing thousands of current and former NFL players agreed to a court
settlement of over $750 million with the league itself. The case was brought up by the players who
claimed they suffered side effects of concussions during their NFL playing careers. They brought in
third party doctors and administrators to help determine how to split up most of the money in a
manner that gives the most money to the most qualified and so on. When this is complete, the first half
of this settlement will be dispersed over the first three years, and the remainder within twenty
(Heitner). Before we start, there is one underlying issue that plays a key role in this

Spider Man Compare And Contrast Essay
The author of The Birth of Spider Man , Max Bruno, and the author of Stan Lee and Spider Man ,
Simmi Patel, both present their information about Spider Man differently and similarly through their
purposes, points of views, and facts chosen.
First, the two authors both convey their purposes similarly. Both authors write information about
Spider Man s creation. The author Simmi Patel writes about how Stan Lee was able to get his idea
about Spider Man across successfully after many failures. The author Max Bruno also writes about
Spider Man s creation. Both authors include information about Stan Lee s failure and about the artists
that he worked with as well as is success.
However, Max Bruno goes more into depth about Spider ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Max Bruno writes about how Stan Lee was rejected by Martin Goodman and artist Jack
Kirby before he made his comic a reality with Steve Ditko. Simmi Patel also writes the same facts.
However, Max Bruno write more facts about Spider Man and about how he is up to 2011. He writes
more about how the character has grown and turned into the modern Spider Man. Bruno also writes
about how two other comic book authors were skeptical of who created Spider Man and each
character in the franchise. On the other hand, Simmi patel only writes about the basics. Patel writes
about how Spider Man was created in the 1960 s. Patel does not write about how Spider Man is in the
future, or about any other authors in the comic book industry.
Both authors have different points of view. Simmi Patel is only generalizing Spider man s creation.
Patel does not write further on how Spider Man has changed or in detail about the other artists and
writers that rejected Stan Lee or were involved in the project. On the other hand, Max Bruno is writing
in detail about Spider Man. He wrote about Spider Man s graduation, marriage, and career nowadays.
He also writes about how Jack Kirby conflicted with Stan Lee, wanting to draw an insect based
superhero comic and was rejected by Lee. Bruno goes on to write about how two writers, Jordan

Russian Famine Research Paper
Famine is something that Russia could be said to be very familiar with. Some of the greatest tragedies
Russia experienced under Soviet rule were the famines that occurred in 1921, 1932, and 1947. The
scope of the devastation is still unparalleled within the country s borders and around the globe. While
the damage and hardship endured during these trying times is uncontested, their specific causes are
still held in contention.
The first famine resulted as an economic disturbance caused by the tail ends of World War I, the 1917
Revolution, and the Soviet Civil War. Infrastructure, specifically the railroads were in a state of
disrepair and were incredibly unreliable, resulting in problems involving the transportation of food
supplies across the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If this were truly the case then there would have been more than enough to feed every peasant even if
the grain was distributed poorly. This suggests that the official figures are not to be trusted and have
likely been exaggerated. It is possible that the statistics recorded were manufactured before the actual
harvest as projections for the oncoming season or biological yields. Famine was widespread
throughout the country, hitting the urban areas and countryside extremely hard. The estimates of the
harvest must have been extremely exaggerated because the death toll was skyrocketing and many of
the typically favored peoples (the industrial workers and city dwellers) were dying from starvation
also. However, just because starvation and disease was rampant does not mean that everyone suffered
equally. The death toll in the Ukraine in particular was abnormally high. Some of this can be blamed
on the still harsh requisitions taken from the Ukrainian peasants. One of the major differing points in
the treatment between the Ukrainian peasants and other Russian citizens involved emigration. The
desperate living conditions brought peasants to the cities and urban workers to the countryside all in
search of food and a more stable life. For the first time since the tsar was in power internal passports
were given to Russian citizens. They were able to relocate to find better prospects for themselves

Coney Island Middle Class
Coney Island was a herald of change from the very beginning. The rise of powerful forces
demonstrate the influence of mass consumerism and enterprises over the progressive voice occurred
between 1880 and 1911. A series of ingeniously designed amusement parks emerged as the products
of various showmen. These people intentionally targeted the middle class by appealing to their values
of refinement. While reformers stood by the failures of society, these parks offered a positive approach
to life. The height of visual spectacle and novelty was the Luna Park, which shunned traditional
Victorian norms of civility and refinement and turned towards lavish attractions. Middle class ideas of
leisure changed along with their own patterns and behaviors as a result. Novelty was the crucial
element of the cultural changes that emerged in those years. Many examples are evidence of the
changing middle class tastes and values. Novelty, commercialization and consumerism helped
insinuate the middle class way of life at Coney Island. Despite their apparently opposing roles as
consumers and reformers, they marked the era of movement towards transformation.

and ordinary Protestants to Coney Island. By targeting the middle class, these parks prolonged the
possibilities of leisure to them in new ways. While reform efforts were part of a rising desire for

commercial enterprise, through the amusement parks, evolved middle class values, outdid the
influence of reformers, and basically had set the source for the progress of the twentieth century s
culture of middle class

Slobodan Miloševićs role in the destruction of Yugoslavia
Slobodan Milošević was an instrumental part of the Yugoslav Wars, his actions were the greatest
factors in the ethnic tensions sparking into an all out war. He used the Serbian media to great effect as
he was able to change the Serbian people s option of the conflict to benefit his actions. Also his
influence over the Serbian people gave him unchecked authority with his internal actions.
Everything spiralled down after the Leader of Yugoslavia Marciall Tito died on the 4th of May 1980
and his iron grip on the peoples of Yugoslavia disintegrated.
Slobodan Milošević was assigned to handle some ethnic troubles in the Autonomous Region of
Kosovo between the Albanians and the Serbs. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goverents of the autonoums regions stepped down and were replaced with close allies of
Milošević giving him almost half of Yugoslavia. Miloševićs use of crowds was another of his methods
for forcing his will and this was demonstrated ater that year Milošević attempted to use his Kosovoan
Serbs to perform mass protests in Slovenia against Slovenia s changes to its constitution. Around
30,000 40,000 protestors were planded to swarm the city of Ljubliana but were prevented from
entering Slovenia by the Croats. This act also strengthened Croatia s involvement in the issue.
Milošević effectively used propaganda during the Yugoslav Wars to manipulate the Serbian people
into supporting his actions. One such case was this image claiming to show a Serbian boy morning his
family whom had been killed by Bosnian Muslims. In reality this is a 19th Century painting depicting
an orphan at his mother s grave. This control of the Serbian media ensured all of his activates were
supported because of the mindset of hatred and fear instated towards the Croats and Bosnaks thus

Personality Of Cleopatra
In the history of ancient world, where the power rested in the hands of men, there exists one woman
who eclipses all other of her own time. In the prism of popular culture, her name became a byword for
beauty, luxury and intelligence. More than that, her story is twined with one of the most powerful
historians like Julius Caesar and Mark Antony. She is of course, the last pharaoh of Egypt, Cleopatra .
Cleopatra, though she ruled for a short period, has a strong impression in the public consciousness
because she was able to sustain an empire at the peaks of ever expanding Roman empire. Moreover,
the empire she established was very powerful.

Caesar and Cleopatra
The meeting of Cleopatra with Caesar was sudden and unexpected. During 48 B.C., a civil war broke
out in Rome between Caesar and Pompey (a military General of Rome). After series of attacks,
Pompey was forced to leave to Alexandria hoping for the support of Ptolemy XIII. Instead, he was
killed by Ptolemy XIII and his head was presented to Caesar when he arrived there.
At the meanwhile, the conflicts between Cleopatra and Ptolemy XIII became worse. Ptolemy XIII
hoped that he could win the throne (According to the will of Ptolemy XII, both of the heirs should
distribute their power) and barred his relations with Caesar. Cleopatra sensed this and was able to
present her case to him. Impressed by her keen intelligence and beauty, eventually, he fell in love with
her and a child was born named Caesarion.
With the support of Ptolemaic kingdom, Roman empire became more powerful. With the support of
Caesar, Cleopatra almost grabbed the entire power of Egypt and also declared Caesarion as the

  • 3. White Males And The American Writers In this nature writing course and in all my literature courses there haven t been many African American writers represented. This isn t because they don t exist, but because the more commonly known writers have the attributes of being more respected, and are widely accepted writers in American literature, who majority of the time are white males like Thoreau and Leopold. These are just examples, and they are good writers but there are also good African American writers that deserve just as much representation when teaching college courses. There s a greater choice of writers besides having the same works of authors we ve already read throughout our experience in studying literature. There needs to be a better variety of cultures represented in literature, white males shouldn t always be the most read and studied authors in public institutions. Minorities should be represented too, especially African American writers since they played such a great role in the American history, and endured so much oppression from the society they ve lived in. In this course, Nature Writing at metropolitan University, we had a variety of different races, but the Black race didn t get the representation they deserved. There was a writing titled, from a black boy by Wright, and it wasn t a good representation of Black writers in America. I remember reading it and questioning what I just read; because it didn t have any emotion or deeper meaning like most the other readings we studied. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Curse Of The Poisoned Pretzel Analysis Its a Doughy Situation Food, the backbone of a community, the foundation on which an empire stands, or even the soulmate of a society. Although I may be straying from the topic, food is technically where this story began. Two brothers, one rich, sucessful, brawny, and has a knack for snacks. The other, sad, closed off, creepy, and not surprising, does not have a knack for snacks or sweets. Two opposites, the story not complete without the other. Now the story would not be complete without one becoming completely jealous and despising the other. Commonly this leads to several things such as arguing, fighting, or to better put it, leads to betrayal. Betrayal, a common theme among siblings, say one thing do another, it s inevitable. In The Curse of the Poisoned Pretzel , Skidmore (creepy brother) is accused of murdering his brother Manchester (snack knacker), yet did he do it? The author of this story portrays interesting attributes to compell readers to point fingers towards Skidmore without actually saying Skidmore s guilty. During the introduction of Skidmore, the inevitably creepy individual, the fact that the author calls him creepy , or saying He gave everyone the creeps already makes Skidmore out to seem like a bad guy. Now this may not be a direct attack on Skidmore as being guilty for his brothers murder, but character introductions always foreshadows that characters purpose in the story. Whe someone suddenly dies, who happens to have a creepy, all black wearing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay on The Negative Affects of Cell Phone Use Introduction With 87 percent of American adults owning a cell phone (Jerpi, 2013), it becomes obvious that cell phones have become a staple device in today s society. Although cell phones offer convenience, they arguably come with negative affects. Cell Phones have become one of the fastest emerging technologies (Campbell, 2006). With 87 percent of American adults and teenagers owning a cell phone (Jerpi, 2013), it becomes obvious that cell phones have become a staple device in today s society. Since the release of the first cell phone, they have immensely evolved and some would say, have become an essential to everyday life. Although cell phones offer convenience, they arguably come with negative and impactful effects on our social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consequently, people who text a lot may be more uncomfortable with in person communication. Taking this information into account, it becomes clear that cell phones have essentially decreased face to face socialization and have socially affected those who use cell phones as a main source of communication. Along with the absence of face to face social interaction, arises the issue of resolving problems via text rather than in person. Cell phones have provided a way to hide behind technology from emotionally distressing events, such as ending relationships (Campbell, 2005). Impact on Education According to Lenhart, in 2012 three quarters of teens, ages 12 17, owned cell phones. Of those teens, twenty three percent of them indicated they possessed a smartphone. With the technology advancing in cell phones, it has become yet another classroom distraction and a serious concern for cheating. With cell phones on hand, it has created an easy way to become distracted during class. Assistant Professor Campbell from the University of Kansas brought to attention, one study found that a third of university students in the US play video games on their mobile phones and laptops during class (Gilroy, 2004 as cited in Katz, 2005). The majority of researchers have found that mobile phones have lead to problematic use in the school environment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Stratification Of Social Class And Youth And The Life... Stratification of social class in the media Social class stratification continues to have a very important role in the life of people living in the U.S. and all around the world. The different class of people in the U.S. is based on several reasons. For this essay, we are going to examine the socio economic background, level of education of the youth and the life style of an individual. A good question is how does the social class stratification originates?, why do middle class youths turn to be more successful than working class youths? Children get their first exposure of what society is all about from their parents who is the primary group. The school, teachers, and community serves as the secondary group and has an impact on the development of the child. It is during the up bringing of a child that the mores of the society should be assimilated. Failure to do so, the child becomes unproductive and feels rejected by the society and unfortunately, this child might end up with a deviant character. On average, educated people earn more than those who are not educated, and their wealth and knowledge gain is passed to their generation. To have a quality life people need to be educated. The more skills an individual acquires the better chances his/her has to be successful. The community and the life style of a child affect his/her progress, the kind of neighborhood or friend a child makes will influence the direction this child will take. • 7. The Importance Of Evidence Based Practice In Nursing Evidence based practice in nursing includes blending clinical judgment and expertise with the best available research and patient characteristics and preference. (Treas Wilkinson,2014, p. 104) It requires a transition from nursing care that is base on opinions, past practices, and tradition to practice that is base on scientific research and proven evidence. (Catalano, 2015, p. 589) The goal of evidence based practice is to improve the quality of care by identifying the most cost efficient treatments for a particular disease. The process of evidence based includes formulating answerable questions example would be interventions, conducting a systematic review of research, evaluating the quality of evidence obtained, compiling and analyzing the data to prepare a structured report review, translating the evidence into guidelines for practice, and integrating the guidelines and evidence with clinical expertise and the patient s preference and characteristics. • 8. Rhino Poaching And The Exotic Animal Trade Would you change your lifestyle to save the existence of a species? In western society, it is our lifestyle to go to the doctors when you are sick, drive to work and buy food from a grocery store. It is hard to remember that around the globe there are different customs and ways of life. A lot of people make the means to live by working the land, owning their own shops, fishing, and hunting animals. Poachers in Africa make their living by hunting elephants, lions, rhinos, and other exotic animals. Countries in Asia, like Vietnam and China, have been using rhino horn medicinally for generations. Would they be willing to change their entire lifestyle to save the existence of a species? I analyzed an image created by the World Wildlife Fund that addresses rhino poaching and the exotic animal trade. There are two subjects in this image, the rhino and those within the rhino. The rhino is being captured by people, but at the same time, its horn is already being removed. I think that this represents the huge market for rhino horn. We are collecting as much horn as we can as fast as we can do it. This idea of our insatiable appetite for exotic animal products is also reinforced by how the horn is being removed. Somebody, with a chainsaw, is cutting off the horn below the base of it. This unsustainable practice will kill the animal. If the horn was cut above the base it would grow back and the rhino could continue on, but it is common for poachers to remove as much horn as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Differences Between Evangelical And Liberal And Neo... OOver the centuries, as some Christians grew more and more doubtful about the possibility of ancient orthodox beliefs in the contemporary, critical world. Could they preach the old, old story in a new, new world in which the way of thinking was supposedly more sophisticated than in the early, medieval or Reformation worlds? Would the modern world accept traditional beliefs like the Trinity, the unity of Jesus in two natures, the total wickedness of humans and the strict, substitutionary atonement (Bingham, p. 150)? In the paper I will compare and contrast Evangelical, Liberal, and Neo Orthodox views as it relates to scriptures. Next in this paper will discuss analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each of the three movements. The term evangelical comes from the Greek, meaning the good news or the gospel. the evangelical faith focuses on the good news of salvation brought to sinners by Jesus Christ. Evangelicals have five convictions are at the base of the faith of those associated with the movement. First, they believe that the Bible is the supreme authority for faith and practice. Second, they believe in the essential of new birth, an experience of conversion through grace. Third, they believe in the centrality of the redeeming work of Christ. • 10. The Behavioral Health Care Systems Today, health care systems continue to face challenges when it comes to implementing mental health services, that can properly treat mental illnesses such as generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). The structure of these systems that fail to integrate or prepare clinicians to work with both mental health cases, and basic health concerns impede with the potential of giving quality services overall. There is an immense need to incorporate an improved system that would better serve this client population. It is fundamental to introduce behavioral health reform within these health care systems that can pinpoint barriers that essentially create gaps in treatment for GAD. Recognizing these discrepancies can serve to explore alternative outlets that promote the necessary changes needed to ensure the availability of adequate help for their mental health condition. As we take into account the behavioral health services that are available to individuals who suffer from generalized anxiety disorder, particular attention should be given to the quality, and delivery of mental health services provided by primary care physicians/providers. The methods, and skills utilized by these practitioners should be highly considered, as they are key to the recovery of clients. Unfortunately, this is not the case for many primary care providers (PCP) who predominantly serve the GAD clientele. According to Posmontier, and Breiter (2012) primary care providers who try to administer mental health services ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Gloria Naylor s Mama Day Essay Gloria Naylor s Mama Day Gloria Naylor s Mama Day takes place in two distinct environments, each characterized by the beliefs and ideologies of the people who inhabit the seemingly different worlds. The island of Willow Springs, comprised solely by the descendants of slaves, is set apart from the rest of the United States and is neither part of South Carolina nor Georgia. As such, its inhabitants are exempt from the laws of either state and are free to govern themselves as they see fit. Only a worn out bridge built in 1920 connects the inhabitants to the mainland, but the people of Willow Springs are entirely self sufficient. He is a rational man, one who does not believe in the future or any superstitions, but he is also a loving man whose motives towards Cocoa stem only from his desire to spend the rest of his life with her. While urban life places great value on being self reliant, the people of Willow Springs depend upon Mama Day and other forces to help them in their time of need. When Bernice falls sick after taking fertility pills, it is Mama Day who correctly diagnoses her problem and nurses her back to health. Although conventional medicine prescribed by Dr. Smithfield is used in severe cases, Mama Day s herbal mixtures are quite effective for most of the problems her patients encounter. Much of the effectiveness of her herbal remedies stem from her strong belief in their worth and from the willingness of her patients to believe in her and all that she represents. For example, Bernice is adamant in her belief that she will become pregnant if she visits the other place with Mama Day. Before taking her to the other place, however, Mama Day buys Bernice some time by giving her magic seeds and advising her to engage in daily rigorous chores. When Abigail questions Mama Day s use of pumpkin seeds, Mama Day replies: The mind is a funny thing, Abigail and a powerful thing at that. • 12. The Importance Of Perseverance In Rita Hayworth And The... Perseverance, the motivation of doing something that consists of difficult objectives or something can set back the main course of achieving a task. A novella about two convicted inmates and how one gutsy inmate named Andy Dufresne escapes the Shawshank Prison. His buddy Red had run alongside his decision and helped him through it, even though Red was the only one in the prison to truthfully admit that Andy did not do it. Andy did not kill his wife and her lover. Elwood Blatch had committed the crime. Elwood was a former cellmate of Tommy Williams in another prison, and Elwood would like to brag about such crimes he committed and Tommy was present at the time of his confession. So Tommy then later informed Andy about it in the Shawshank State Prison. In Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption wrote by Stephen King , the main focus is perseverance. Perseverance is present in this novella, and present in most of the characters. Their motivation and determination thrown towards a goal that might be far fetched, but in time can be attained. The two characters that had maintained perseverance throughout the novella were, Andy Dufresne and Red. Then I will put in my own take on perseverance. Andy Dufresne, his time at the Shawshank prison had most indefinitely affected all the inmates and guards in the prison, Andy was sent to prison for the murder of his wife, Linda, and her lover, Glenn Quentin. • 13. Niemann Pick Disease Essay Niemann Pick Disease Niemann Pick Disease is an autosomal recessive disease, passed down through carrier parents, where lipids gather in the cells of the spleen, liver, and brain creating an obstruction. There are four known forms of the disease, Type A, Type B, Type C, and Type D, in which Type A and B compose Type I and Type C and D make up Type II. Type A and B are a response to the lack of the enzyme acid sphingomyelinase(ASM) which metabolizes sphingomyelin. When there is an absence of sphingomyelinase the excess build up of sphingomyelin kills multiple cells stopping organ function. Symptoms of Type A include: abdominal swelling, redness in the eye, feeding difficulties, and loss of motor skills. Type A is the more severe of situations, not offering ... Type D is a variant of Type C, and is caused by a mutation in the NPC2 gene, creating, an abnormality in the interaction between cholesterol and brain cells. Type C is often noticed affecting Puerto Ricans, while Type D is frequently observed to affect French Canadians. Type II is most commonly diagnosed with a skin biopsy, in which skin cells would be observed while in the process of moving and storing cholesterol. In Addition, other tests that may be performed are: bone marrow aspiration, a liver biopsy, slit lamp eye exam, and sphingomyelinase assays. Miglustat has been given as treatment for Type C patients to decelerate the nervous system symptoms, but there is no treatment yet for Type D. Due to the mutations in DNA of Type C it is probable that a fetus could be diagnosed while in the womb in specialized centers. According to the National Highway, traffic Safety Administration (2013), alcoholic impairment whilst driving depends on the driver s blood alcohol concentration (BAC). According to National Highway, traffic Safety Administration (2013), a BAC higher or equal to.08 g/dl renders the driver impaired and thus should not operate any vehicle or any machinery in this state. Therefore, deaths arising out of scenarios involving an alcohol impaired driver brings forth alcoholic impaired fatalities. According to National Highway, traffic Safety Administration (2013), such fatalities does not occur solely on the notion that alcohol impairment caused it, but also that a driver harboring a BAC of 0.8 or higher was involved in the accident. In 2013, NHTSA determined that alcohol impairment resulted to about 10,070 deaths. This number amounted to about 30 percent of the total number of traffic related deaths in that year. The numbers above indicate that each fatality took place after every 52 minutes throughout the course of the year 2013. Alcohol ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 17. The Characteristics Of John Wooden s Definition Of Success John Wooden once said, Success is peace of mind attained only through self satisfaction and knowing you ve made the effort, do the best of what you re capable. This quote is relevant to the question of what success is to me. This is relevant to the question of what is the definition of success because John Wooden s definition of success is near perfect. To give you a better understanding, I will use three different traits from the Pyramid of Success. I will explain to you why these are related to success. Finally, I will use examples from the skype that our History in the Movies class had with former basketball player, Bobby Plump. The first trait from the Pyramid of Success that I think creates success is Confidence. I think confidence is a really big deal when it comes to success. If you come into a sports game and you believe that you and your team will come out victorious, than you and your team will play at higher levels. It doesn t matter if the challengers have more talent, it matters who has more heart. When Bobby Plump put up a shot when he played basketball, he didn t this it was going to miss, he thought it was going through the net every single time. In the movie Hoosiers, when Jimmy Chitwood (Bobby Plump), shot the ball, he could be moving, fading away, or the shot could be heavily contested and he would miss sometimes. But after all, he kept shooting because he was confident. Confidence doesn t just pass for sports, it is also a trait you should hold ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. The Pros And Cons Of Pollution Pollution is a serious global issue that has been occurring for as long as humans have inhabited the planet. There are many different varieties of pollution, as well as an abundance of materials, both natural and synthetic, that the earth has been contaiminated with. Shifrin ( 2005), states: To date, wastes remain a fact of life and there are only three places to dispose of wastes air, water, or land. Waste management always involves tradeoffs. (p. 676). Even though Shifrin is correct in his analysis, it does not excuse the amount of environmental poison that continues to exist today, nor the amount of environmental problems that it has caused throughout history. The tradeoffs of pollution have devastated entire communities, causing waves of sickness and death in their wake. According to Shifrin (2005): Water borne contagious disease still caused devastating epidemics in the early 1900s, compounded by growing, congested populations. Air pollution also grew to a high priority by midcentury because its impact was so observable and immediate. (p. 676). Generally, these diseases were spread through poor sanitary practices as well as the overwhelming volume of pollution that was generated by so many indivduals with little knowledge about what the adverse effects on the overall environment would be. Almost every computer in an educational facility and in home and small office use is connected to some type of a network. People spent a lot of time on the Internet, which may make them seem isolated. However, the Internet does not foster isolation, because it may be used for many different things like communication, education, problem solving and etc. The concept for the Internet was to make a link in to a new world, a world that has many different opportunities within its self. People whose physical handicaps make it difficult to form new friendships find that virtual communities treat them as they always wanted to be treated (Rheingold 206). Equality and understanding is the key, and the virtual community provides that and much more. Advice is also one of the keys for equality and understanding. • 22. The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Agricultural Subsidies... 1. Introduction Subsidies are a controversial subject worldwide, but especially the agricultural subsidies in the European Union (EU) have been involved in a controversial debate for years. The selling price of farming products in Europe is extremely low, and farmers in Western European countries have been struggling because the current price level could not cover their expenses. The local farmers would not have been able to compete with the much cheaper prices of imported food, and would be forced to diversify by now if nothing had changed. In order to keep farming existing as a profession in Western Europe, the EU decided to help the farmers by providing an agricultural subsidy. Both advantages and disadvantages have occurred due to this solution. Whereas some argue that subsidies are good for the economy as a whole, others preach the exact opposite. One of the main tasks of the CAP is to implement agricultural subsidies, which are more essential now than ever. Emerging markets were growing more rapidly and this gave them a chance to infiltrate the European market much more quickly than expected. Emerging markets can sell their agricultural products for a cheaper price than the local farmers, because their production costs are much lower. Consumers preferred this lower price, and this resulted in a lower pricing standard than the local farmers could afford. Local farmers could not compete with the farmers from emerging markets and therefore globalisation led to the reformation of the CAP accompanied by farming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With the recent increase of technology in those years we are now able to notice that this is a major issue. These injuries can be life changing and perhaps the scariest part is that they ve been around longer than the games they occur in themselves. In the past, players would be hit by a 250 pound man running at full speed with their head thrown around and just walk it off , maybe sitting out for a couple of plays. Within the last few years, the National Football League has been under heavy pressure to do more to prevent and diagnose these concussions. However, even with these recent advances that have been made, the NFL is still not doing enough as it continues to avoid any claims of responsibility. Just recently, a large group containing thousands of current and former NFL players agreed to a court settlement of over $750 million with the league itself. The case was brought up by the players who claimed they suffered side effects of concussions during their NFL playing careers. They brought in third party doctors and administrators to help determine how to split up most of the money in a manner that gives the most money to the most qualified and so on. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If this were truly the case then there would have been more than enough to feed every peasant even if the grain was distributed poorly. This suggests that the official figures are not to be trusted and have likely been exaggerated. It is possible that the statistics recorded were manufactured before the actual harvest as projections for the oncoming season or biological yields. Famine was widespread throughout the country, hitting the urban areas and countryside extremely hard. The estimates of the harvest must have been extremely exaggerated because the death toll was skyrocketing and many of the typically favored peoples (the industrial workers and city dwellers) were dying from starvation also. However, just because starvation and disease was rampant does not mean that everyone suffered equally. The death toll in the Ukraine in particular was abnormally high. Some of this can be blamed on the still harsh requisitions taken from the Ukrainian peasants. One of the major differing points in the treatment between the Ukrainian peasants and other Russian citizens involved emigration. The desperate living conditions brought peasants to the cities and urban workers to the countryside all in search of food and a more stable life. The rise of powerful forces demonstrate the influence of mass consumerism and enterprises over the progressive voice occurred between 1880 and 1911. A series of ingeniously designed amusement parks emerged as the products of various showmen. These people intentionally targeted the middle class by appealing to their values of refinement. While reformers stood by the failures of society, these parks offered a positive approach to life. The height of visual spectacle and novelty was the Luna Park, which shunned traditional Victorian norms of civility and refinement and turned towards lavish attractions. Middle class ideas of leisure changed along with their own patterns and behaviors as a result. Novelty was the crucial element of the cultural changes that emerged in those years.
