Free Movement of Goods
Free Movement Of Goods
Research Title:
The ECJ has been a key institution in the community in integrating the laws of the MS. Nowhere is
this more obvious in relation to national laws on free movement of goods.
With reference to the EC law on free movement of goods, cortically discuss whether the decision of
the ECJ in this area either confirm or disprove this statement.
Introduction
As the raison d etre of the common market, the free movement of goods may be regarded as a
fundamental freedom common to all states holding membership of the European Community. The role
of the European Court of Justice as a decision maker is critical in maintaining and ensuring that free
movement can prevail between the United States of Europe. Its ... Show more content on

According to this definition:
all trading rules enacted by Member States which are capable of hindering, directly or indirectly,
actually or potentially, intra Community trade are to be considered as measures having an effect
equivalent to quantitative restrictions.
This declaration is demonstrative of the ECJ s strict interpretation of their duty to enforce the principle
of EC legislation in this area. For example, it is not necessary to show an actual hindrance to trade
between Member States: it is quite sufficient that the measure should merely be capable of such an
effect.
It is interesting to note that a measure which is not capable of hindering trade between Member States,
which merely affects the flow of trade within a Member State, will not breach Article 28. In Oebel 6 a
Belgian law banning the production and delivery to consumers and retail outlets of bakery products
during night hours, designed to protect workers in small and medium sized bakeries, was held not to
be in breach of Article 28. Although delivery of imported products through the same outlets was
precluded, trade within the Community remained possible at all times . Moreover, a measure falling
within the Dassonville formula but which is solely to the disadvantage of domestic products will not
infringe Community law (Jongeel Kaas BV v Netherlands ) 7. From this it is apparent

Gambling Addiction In Today s Society
In today s society we American s suffer from many addictions. Some people have a drinking problem.
Other people have a nicotine addiction. And then there are those who can not seem to kick the illegal
drug use. But, all of these addictions are well known and can be treated almost as easily as the
common cold. For example, smokers not only have the patch, but they have prescribed gum,
billboards and commercials telling people not to smoke, and health programs in schools across the
country advising kids not to smoke by showing them ungodly pictures of the effects smoking has to
the inside of a person s body. Oh, and let s not forget about the over budgeted attempt to help those
who have a drinking problem. It seems that we have done everything from banning alcohol, to setting
up A. A. programs, to having interventions. Then we have the lawbreakers those who use and sell
drugs. Heck, everybody goes out of his or her way to rehabilitate these people and advise them not to

Most people just think that there is nothing wrong with these people except for the fact that they are
stupid enough to gamble away their money. What most people do not know is that gambling can be a

people who have alcohol, drug, and nicotine addictions there is little help out there for people who
have gambling addictions because of that misconception.
For many Americans, gambling is considered a pastime. However, what they don t know is that
gambling may lead to a serious addiction. The causes of this addiction can vary. Some people may
have gambling passed onto them through their parents genes, others may have gotten the addiction
through the pressures of their surrounding environment, but the biggest reason today most people get
the addiction is because of the fact that gambling has become more and more

Lineage-Based Perspective
With there being more than 50,000 species of vertebrates alone it is essential for all biology majors to
have a working knowledge of the tree of life. The two perspectives for teaching zoology are the
Linnean taxonomical and the Phylogenetic clade based perspective. The Linnean taxonomical
perspective is a rank based hierarchy while the phylogenetic clade based perspective groups species
by focusing a common ancestor and its descendants. In regards to teaching zoology there is more
value in using the phylogenetic clade based perspective rather than the Linnean perspective because it
allows students to organize the details of biodiversity with a more rational system.
Phylogenetic taxonomy focuses on common ancestry and derived functional ... Show more content on

For example; Coleoptera contains over three hundred thousand species while Primate contains roughly
four hundred species including the human (Ballen, Cissy J., and Harry W. Greene).
This lack of criteria is what causes the exclusion of taxonomic acknowledgment of major evolutionary
innovations while inaccurately portraying history. It is also mentioned in Greene s more recent journal
that the Linnean method fails at specifying clades based upon the origin of limbs in tetrapods and
shelled egg amniotes. While it also, obscures the fact that crocodilians are more closely related to
birds than they are to turtles, lizards, and snakes, which does not highlight many dramatic similarities
between earlier archosaurs (Ballen, Cissy J., and Harry W. Greene). These two main concerns of
omission and obscuration are why the phylogenetic clade based system is a far more valuable and
beneficial methodology for teaching zoology.
As it was mentioned previously, the phylogenetic clade based perspective only recognizes
monophyletic taxa, which are those taxa derived from a common ancestor not shared with any other
group. There is another argument being made that paraphyletic groups should not be included as units
of study within a zoology course. Paraphyletic and monophyletic units of study both have their
benefits and drawbacks however I believe that

The year was 1987. My mom was a freshman in college. She felt virtually invisible in her Intro to
Anthropology course of around 300 people. It wasn t her best class, but she was still surprised when
she received a C on the paper she wrote. She hadn t thought she d done that badly. Confused, she

It gives students a better understanding of their academic abilities and prevents students from being
powerless in their own education. Grades have served to dehumanize students. Instead of being seen
as full, complete beings they are reduce to A students, C students, and students failing the class. This
judgment is not only made by their teachers but by society as a whole. Parents often set standards for
what their kids grades need to be and punish them if they don t reach the mark. Friends and classmates
compare the results of tests and report cards, making learning into a competition where some are
better than others. Additionally, and perhaps the most disturbingly, for some students, grades become a
reflection of their own worth. It doesn t help that in many ways our future is defined by our GPA. In a
world where grades carry such weight, they can seem awfully fatalistic. A streak of bad ones can look
like the end of a dream career. A friend of mine is facing just that reality. Her GPA is lower than she
expects and lower than what it takes to get herself to grad school. With the added possibility of
disappointing her parents or losing her scholarship, each assignment is an anxiety provoking threat,
which could take her closer to failure. The way we ve set up schools, once your grades drop, it
becomes increasingly hard to bring them back up. Many students faced with mounting

Mental, Physical And Body Aspects
Human behavior has been analyzed over time, along with conditions that have been put into
perspective, about mental, physical and body aspects. These aspects of a human being are very
important for normal functioning of a person in society. When one s mental thought process is
affected, proper reasoning is not possible, and in turn the behavior becomes erratic. One such
condition that is directly connected to this mental situation is psychosis. Apart from affecting the
mental condition, it also affects the sensory and cognitive abilities.
Psychosis is defined as a disorder that causes one to have experiences that are out of touch with
reality. According to Von (2010), this is not a disease, but just a clear symptom of a mental illness.
Psychotic people have a tendency to have untrue thoughts, or are deluded and they have
hallucinations. Von (2010) goes on to explain that these symptoms are uniquely divided into positive
and negative results. Different psychotic disorders are categorized on the basis of the duration,
bizarreness of the delusions and the intensity of mania or depression. Non affective psychosis tends to
have negative symptoms, longer duration and bizarre delusions, while affective psychosis has fewer
negative symptoms that are related to bipolar disorder (Von, 2010).
A mental health professional can only recognize psychosis in a client by observing major changes in
their behavior. These changes are such as the abrupt loss of interest in activities that one

Montagu And Capulet In William Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Once upon a time there lived in Verona two great families named Montagu and Capulet. They were
both rich, and I suppose they were as sensible, in most things, as other rich people. But in one thing
they were extremely silly. There was an old, old quarrel between the two families, and instead of
making it up like reasonable folks, they made a sort of pet of their quarrel, and would not let it die out.
So that a Montagu wouldn t speak to a Capulet if he met one in the street nor a Capulet to a Montagu
or if they did speak, it was to say rude and unpleasant things, which often ended in a fight. And their
relations and servants were just as foolish, so that street fights and duels and uncomfortablenesses of
that kind were always growing out of the Montagu and Capulet quarrel. Now Lord Capulet, the head
of that family, gave a party a grand supper and a dance and he was so hospitable that he said anyone
might come to it except (of course) the Montagues. But there was a young Montagu named Romeo,
who very much wanted to be there, because Rosaline, the lady he loved, had been asked. This lady had
never been at all kind to him, and he had no reason to love her; but the fact was that he wanted to love
somebody, and as he hadn t seen the right lady, he was obliged to love the wrong one. So to the
Capulet s grand party he came, with his friends Mercutio and Benvolio. Old Capulet welcomed him
and his two friends very kindly and young Romeo moved about among the crowd of courtly

Waiting for Superman Film Review
Waiting for Superman by Davis Guggenheim is a documentary released in 2010 that promotes the
educational welfare of America s children in public school systems that are severely broken in many
ways. Just under two hours, Guggenheim relates many factual information and shines light on
education.
The film starts by introducing the NCLB (No Child Left Behind) act which progresses into describing
the many faults of the educational system. Throughout the documentary, the film shows personal
stories such as Daisy, Francisco, Geoffrey Canada, and Michelle Rhee. Daisy is a 5th grader who is

into his school of choice is only 5%. In the documentary, people such as Geoffrey Canada, and
Michele Rhee, tell and show the issues facing America s children today in schools worldwide. Canada,
president of the Harlem Children s Zone describes his journey as an educator. Canada s idea was to
create charter schools. The goals of the Charter schools would give children along with their parents

classroom. Rhee, former controversial superintendent of Washington, DC, is Chancellor of public
schools.

A resilience framework for understanding cognitive aging implies a search for factors that buffer
against existing risk, enabling one to thrive in what might otherwise be adverse circumstances. The

Agency in sustaining an engaged lifestyle does not just derive from naive optimism (e.g., the little
engine that could ), but rather from a whole constellation of resources crafted over the life span that
puts force behind ones sense of agency (e.g., Infurna, Gerstorf, Ram, Schupp, amp; Wagner, 2011).
Cognitive capacity does not come for free. By some estimates, proficiency in a substantive skill
requires about 10,000 hours of deliberate practice (Ericsson, Krampe, Tesch Römer, 1993; Gladwell,
2008). The normalization of optimal life span cognitive development, then, will ultimately derive
from cultural and social institutions (e.g., health care, educational resources) that position individuals
for effective engagement in experiences and activities that nurture cognition on a large scale over
extended time. In the pages that follow, we consider the factors that have potential to contribute to
cognitive resilience through the life span. The 10,000 hour rule implies that not all skills will be
developed to an equal extent and that cognitive resilience must entail selectivity in what is optimized,
as well as compensatory strategies for managing activities that depend on nonoptimized skills.
Because plasticity decreases with age, the 10,000 hour rule might be expected to become something
like a 15,000 hour rule for new skills developed in late life. However, the 10,000 hour rule also
implies that by mid to later adulthood, investment in skill development of

The death of Matthew Shepard took place in a small town, Laramie, Wyoming. Laramie was known as

Scarecrow focused on the emotions that came from Matthew s death. In Scarecrow Melissa sang, I

Allied Bombing Of Germany In Ww2 Analysis
Assess the significance of the Allied bombing of Germany in WWII
Despite the allied bombing of Germany in WWII perhaps appearing to be significant, overall, it was
only such to a limited extent. It is possible to analyse the extent to which the bombing was significant
in four aspects: economic, morale, international relations and others theatres of war. The extent to
which they were significant will be assessed against their respective pre war expectations. Whilst each
dimension are important, I am going to specifically focus on economic and moral because they were
the main objectives of the Allies, and directly affected Germany.
Beginning with the economic aspect, by bombing Germany, the Allies strived to damage their
economy, as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the whole, this is the most significant point that will be discussed because simply, the Eastern
Front is where the war was won and it also facilitated the landing of the allied troops in Normandy D
Day. Stalin had been longing for the opening of the second front to draw German tanks and infantry
away from the Eastern Front. The crucial aerial bombing meant that Germany had to withdraw anti
tank guns from the Eastern front and instead, use them to fight the British bombers in the sky. This
was evident with the AA Defence System (88mm tank guns) which could no longer inflict damage
upon the Red Army and the Soviets. Similarly, the Germans had to divert money and manpower
(infantry) to provide a significant enough opposition to discourage the Allies from continuing with
their long range offensives. As well as diversion of resources, the priority of the German
manufacturers shifted greatly whereby the number of fighters increased on the German front from
1405 to 1650 in 1943 44, but decreased on the Eastern Front from 445 to 425 in 1943 44. The switch
of bombers to fighters meant that troops on the front line did not have a protective air force. This,
along with the minimalised production of weapons, reduced the war effort served by the Germans on
the Eastern Front. The only fight which the Germans could put up there was defensive which
inevitably, gave

Reflections on Privatization and Criminal Justice
Thank you very much for the welcome, and for giving my talk. When the Fraser Institute called me
last year, they rang up and said they were having a conference and we would like to invite you, and I
thought I think you have the wrong person. Basically, everybody else there, except myself and one
person from Nova Scotia, were in favour of privatization and very strongly in favour of it, especially
with respect to prisons. It was actually very educational and interesting to engage in that debate. First
of all I would like to thank you very much for the invitation and to wish you all the best with your new

So on the one hand we are surrounded by the phenomenon and on the other hand we don t know as
much about it as we should. Even my own work, I might add, privatization is more or less a tangent
for me as I do other areas of research. I think it is indication that very few people in Canada,
criminologists, are systematically focussing on this but I keep getting roped back into this. I just wish I
had three lives at once so that I could pursue it the way I really want to. Privatization is an area that
really needs attention, and lets hope that students here at St. Thomas are going to take this up. Let me
just mention one or two topics that need attention. Many people talk about privatization in criminal
justice, including myself, mention that it is likely that private companies will try and influence
criminal justice policy in various places. Yet when you look for the empirical support for this there is
very little factual information there. Or we talk a bit about the decline of the military in industrial
conflicts, the end of the Cold War, and new markets opening up for these companies internationally
and we see some of the companies moving from the United States into Britain, Australia and now also
Canada, and we hear things about them moving into Latin American countries and East European
countries, but again this international dimension is one that there has been very little systematic
research on. So the whole area is just begging for

Parable Of The Prodigal Son Thesis Statement
INTRODUCTION
My thesis statement is about how the Parable of the Prodigal Son can be used to understand the mercy
of God.
I will show the reader the different ways we can understand the mercy of God in the Parable of the
Prodigal Son through the following sections that describe the process of mercy as a conversion, from
who are the main characters in the parable within the gospel of Luke to how that mercy is destroyed
by the different actions of the human being.
The (1) first section is about who are the human beings in the Parable of the Prodigal Son, their
principal role and actions in the story followed by; (2) section two about the self awareness of the
Prodigal Son, who was truly the prodigal son and what he desired in life; (3) the ... Show more content

The Parable of the Prodigal Son is extremely rich in meaning, especially in mercy. Mercy constitutes
the center of Christian spirituality and of our life in Christ; it is a very clear and profound
representation of the reality of the human being when he does not appreciate the goodness and love of
God. The parable of the Prodigal Son presents the moment in which the youngest son moves away
from the father in a selfish way, disregarding the goodness of the fatherly love, to begin an uncertain
journey that he believes will bring him to fuller and more abundant life, and he departs in search for
freedom and happiness.
The parable describes, then, a progress; slow at first, but triumphant at the end when he returns, with a
broken heart and freely abandoned, to his father s house. The God of Mercy in the parable invites the
human being to discover the meaning of life through the experience of the lost son who begins to
discover himself as a human being and reveals himself before his

Summary Of Origins Of The Final Solution By Christopher...
The Origins of the final solution by Christopher Browning gives a comprehensive review of what led
up to the final solution. He belongs to the school of thought of moderate functionalism, that the final
solution was led up to, and that policies enacted led up to it, with no premeditation. He argues that the
final solution happened because of previous attempts to create a Judenfrei Europe that did not have
enough success. It uses multiple types of evidence to prove this thesis. First it talks about Jewish
policy in Poland, involving deportation and in turn the resettlement of Volksdeutsche. The problem
with this is that it does not have enough success, with deportation rates at a low 40% on average. In
addition, many government officials were

1. Given some of the problems with Sippican s cost system, should executives abandon overhead
assignment to product entirely and adopt a contribution margin approach? Why or why not? The
overhead spending is greater than the direct labour costs or the direct material costs for all three
product lines Valves, Pumps and Flow Controllers (Exhibit 2). Overheads are simply charged at 185%
constant for three diverse products. The fact that there is huge variance in the number of units
produced per production run it is 375 for valves and 18 for flow controllers per production run. This
shows the reason for high overheads cost too. Hence it calls for checking the cost allocation system of

The price at which the pumps were being sold was low were high whereas flow controllers were low.
Because of which the most profitable product was coming out to be flow controllers whereas it was

achievements in music history. As discussed in the previous paragraph, Atlantic Records was able to
incorporate many different kinds of genres into their label making them unique compared to their
competitors. Callahan and Edwards describe the jazz musicians that they had as giants , such as Lester
Young and Sidney Bechet. The fact that they were able to have connections with these giants shows
that from the start, they appealed to the big stars and I believe this showed they were destined for
stardom. Atlantic Records also produced multiple #1 hits in the R B category in the 1950 s (Callahan

hits as well (Callahan and Edwards). This record company was able to do it all. Another big time
period was from 1953 1955 when pop artists started to cover R B songs (Callahan and Edwards).
Atlantic Records was able to jump on this new trend and this became a big part of their success and

facets of business and Atlantic Record showed that they were smart in running the business. Atlantic

Just A Normal Football Fan
Just a Normal Football Fan There is a variety of professional sports in the world today. People from all
over have come to enjoy watching athletes compete. The fans of these sports all love, cheer and
support their respected teams. Even so, there is diversity among sports fans. Sports fans usually
exhibit distinct behaviors that separate them from others. By examining the behaviors of a sports fan,
a person can categorize the different types of fans. Football fans can be classified into the following
categories, the Bandwangoners, the Agents, the Coaches, the Followers, the Teachers, and the
Opportunists. The Bandwagoners are sports fans who will pick a team and drop them in an instant. A
Bandwagoner will cling to a sports team that has recently won a big game or several in a row or even
won a championship. In fact, the person probably became a fan of the team just a couple of days ago.
The Bandwagoner claims to know most of the players on the team and their positions, when in fact he
or she usually knows on one or two of the players. These fans have all the sudden become diehard
fans of the team and support the team one hundred percent. They are so committed to the team that

condition and are denied by healthcare plans, and/or people who cannot afford health care insurance
due to the high premiums. Furthermore, health reform provides tax breaks to small businesses so that
they can afford insurance to their employees, free coverage for prevention services such as vaccines
and screenings, assistance with drug coverage for Medicare patients, and providing insurance options

Evidence Of The Changing Roles Of Women In Women And Women
evidence of the changing roles of female involvement within terrorist organisations along with
increasing numbers of female Islamic terrorists (Bakkers de Leede, 2015; Lavina, 2015).
Terrorist organisations traditionally maintained gendered specific roles and women predominantly
provided a support type role (Bakker de Leede, 2015). This was in the form of bearing children or
recruiters (Bloom, 2011). This has been evolving with instances of women actively engaging in
violent Islamic terrorism (Bloom, 2011). High profile cases of home grown radicalisation of females
of a British background like that of Samantha Lewthwaite and Sally Jones could be examples of a new
breed of female terrorist (Bakkers de Leede, 2015; Berkowitz ... Show more content on

It is hoped that an updated and more comprehensive analysis of female radicalisation and their
involvement within Islamic terrorist organisations will lead to a greater understanding of female
radicalisation and extremism and subsequently the development of more effective measures to combat
this phenomenon in the form of more gender specific counter terrorism strategies (Saltman Smith,
2015; Musial, 2017).
Background/ Context
Terrorism is not a new occurrence; it is a common feature of Northern Irish history due to the conflict
of The Troubles (MI5 Secret Services, 2016; Newburn, 2013; Wright, 2010). Traditional terrorism like
that of the IRA (Irish Republican Army) in Northern Ireland predominantly occurred within local
geographical parameters and against specific targets, it also operated in a fairly predictable nature
(Morgan, 2004, Wright, 2010). In order to deal with the threat of Northern Irish terrorism, intrusive
counter terrorism measures were introduced (Mythen, 2014; Wright, 2010). These were designed to
deal with domestic and localised terrorism (Morgan, 2004; Mythen, 2014; Wright, 2010). In recent
years, the terrorist threat has expanded beyond local parameters (Wright, 2010).
Globalisation has blurred how terrorism operates and has aided the development of a modernised
terrorism (Aas, 2013). The Home Office acknowledged that terrorist threats have changed in recent
years and this is expected to change further unless an efficient solution is

The Biofuel Industry
Biofuels have been used as a source of energy for thousands of years. Wood was the first biofuel to be
used as a means to create fires for cooking. Since that time we have discovered numerous ways to use
them and the various forms of biofuels that are available for use. Presently our use of biofuels consists
largely of additives to gasoline in the form of ethanol. Ethanol is found in almost all of our gasoline
products today, in which about 10% is typically mixed as an additive. Some gas stations are now
offering nearly pure ethanol fuel known as E85 which is 85% ethanol. This makes ethanol the most
common biofuel used worldwide. In response to this, farmers around the world have increased biofuel
plant production as a means to meet the new growing demand for it. As time goes on, more modern
farming practices are expected to continue to increase the output at which farmers can grow corn and
other ethanol producing plants thereby fueling the biofuel gas industry. With more resources available
to use, ethanol will be an even cheaper additive than it is now.
Biofuels as a whole are made up of a large variety of organisms or their byproducts, leaving a multiple
of sources to choose from. This is what makes biofuel energy an attractive source of fuel for the
future. One company named Algenol is leading the world in algae research development that they
claim will revolutionize the biofuel industry completely. They are working on having algae produce
ethanol directly

The Cost Of Space Exploration In The United States
Space exploration negatively affects human society, and space in many more ways than it does
positively. The 15 U.S naval expeditions from 1840 1860 approached one quarter of the annual federal
budget, by far exceeding even the Apollo commitment. The U.S should not fond space exploration
because of the cost, the lives risked, and dangerous organisms coming to earth. There are many
contributing factors on why Space Exploration should no longer be legal. First of all, the cost of the
whole process is excessive. Although it is used on exploration, it can also be used to reduce the
amount of poverty in underdeveloped countries. Many countries are struggling severely with poverty,
and meanwhile there are chances that the exploration will fail. ... Show more content on

Liberty Work Experience Essay
For the past few years, I have been volunteering at a nearby lesson barn. My tasks usually consist of
removing manure from the pens, refilling water tanks, cleaning out the barn, and checking the fence
line for repairs. When there is time left, however, I help train a pony that will, one day, be used for
lessons. During these training sessions, my instructor teaches me the basics of liberty work so that the
pony learns to both relax around people and how to interact with them. These lessons create a
memorable outdoor experience for me because, in addition to helping my instructor, I am helping a
pony become less fearful of people that interact with him on a regular basis. The skills I have gained
from the liberty work lessons has also encouraged me to continue my education of liberty work and to
share my findings with others so that they may understand their horses on a deeper level. ... Show

Once caught, the pony was skittish, jumping away from the fly spray and balking at loud noises.
When ridden, he would not be able to stand still and would bolt at certain sensations (such as tapping
the saddle). So, my instructor decided to have me try liberty work to both relax him and encourage
him to think (rather than reacting to all stimuli by fleeing). After a lesson of teaching me a couple of
games and maneuvers, I would work on the pony. Once he consistently made the desired or positive
response, she [my instructor] would teach me another set of games to challenge both the pony and my
skills as a trainer. While the training process is difficult, it is memorable because of the opportunities
for me to both understand the reasoning for the maneuvers and to observe the progression of the pony

The Causes And Effects Of Climate Change
Climate Change
Climate change is caused by human activity. This climate change in turn, causes hurricanes. The
hurricanes will destroy the human population main resources. This will lower people into having less
important resources such as: food, shelter, and water. Having less resources could lead to poverty,
which is known in developing countries such as: India, Philippines, and Haiti (Weeks 56). There are
also changes in the oceans that are being affected. This change occurring could lead to the ocean over
flooding due to contaminating the ocean caused by humans because humans have an impact on the
environment. Humanity needs to cut down the production in the coal industry because people are
burning the coal; this is causing the coal to pollute the air people breath. The effects of climate change
is caused by deforestation, overpopulation, burning coal, and contaminated food production.
The cutting of the trees is causing deforestation, the trees are a helpful resource in the environment.
According to an article by Struck states, Experts say deforestation threatens a delicate balance in
which forests act as Earth s lungs: absorbing carbon dioxide the biggest contributor to climate change
and expelling oxygen (29). This effect causes more of the air to become contaminated by carbon
dioxide. Carbon dioxide is a harmful gas that is released into the air. The trees help keep down the
carbon dioxide in the air; this releases oxygen, so people can breathe clean air. As

Everything You Need to Know About Iron Essay
Everything You Need to Know About Iron
Iron is called a trace mineral, but its effects are mighty. We need it to produce hemoglobin, the oxygen
carrier in red blood cells that brings oxygen to the rest of the body. Iron is also needed to produce
myoglobin, the oxygen reservoir in the muscle cells.
Iron is notoriously low in the American diet; especially in children one to two years old, and in women
ages 12 to 50. Surprisingly, it is also low among athletes, who pack their diets so full of carbohydrates
that they tend to omit iron rich foods.
Inadequate iron stores in the blood cause iron deficiency anemia. Iron is needed for the production of
hemoglobin needed for red blood cells. Hemoglobin is important in the transport of oxygen ... Show

Pregnancy increases the risk of anemia. During pregnancy, the blood volume expands by almost 50%.
Most of the increased blood volume is an increase in blood plasma levels, not red blood cells. Since
the plasma level increases more rapidly than the red blood cells in the first half of pregnancy, the
concentration of red blood cells in the blood is less than during the pre pregnancy period. As the body
works to produce red blood cells at an increased rate, the need for iron may exceeds the available
stores. The result is iron deficiency anemia. At least 20% of all pregnant women are anemic. However,
this type of anemia, called hemodilutional, does not increase the risk of low birth weight or preterm
delivery.
Cut off value for anemia for women.

During periods of growth such as infancy, childhood, adolescence and pregnancy, blood volume
increases to feed the new tissue. More blood and more tissue means that more iron is needed to carry
the extra oxygen around. Not meeting the demand can have lifelong consequences. Even without
symptoms of anemia, iron deficient infants show signs of mental impairment. Studies suggest that

nothing we can do will ever completely eliminate this element. Swift also acknowledges the homeless

The last statement regarding the Pretender in Spain is a stab at Catholicism, the Pretender, being the

Swift estimates that there are 120,000 children of poor parents born annually. These children are a

The Characteristics Of Aborigines In The Secret River By...
In The Secret River, the emancipists that have been transported to Australia continuously mistreat and
disrespect the Aborigines, who are presented as the foundation of Australia. The Aborigines are forced
into hidden parts of Australia where they are massacred by poison they are tortured in a foreign way
by foreign people without cause. For over thousands of years, the Aborigines have lived in peace on
land that belonged to everybody, in a peaceful community. Grenville presents the Aborigines to be
strongly linked to nature. Grenville portrays the Aborigines as beautiful and empowered symbolised
by physical features. Oppositely the Aborigines are presented as vulnerable, animal like and Grenville
uses the novel to convey a message that the use of Australia as a penal colony has a negative effect on
the Aborigines and their culture. Throughout the novel, the Aborigines are presented as powerful
which is reflected in their very rigid facial features. Thornhill says the Aborigine s rock of his face
shaped itself around the big mouth, the imposing nose, the folds of his cheeks. . The adjectives big and
imposing emphasise the power and size of the face, Grenville conveys a message to the reader that the
Aborigine is extraordinary, she uses the to name the Aborigine s features instead of his which suggests
that the facial features are too substantial to belong to one person especially a person of lower status
than the emancipists. Grenville uses a metaphor, rock

The Request For Proposal Process

IS 578 The Request for Proposal Process
Enterprises seeking a consulting firm or product vendor for management, strategy, outsourcing,
software implementation, change management, or a host of other reasons issue a request for proposal
(RFP) to elicit bids for services or products from vendors in the form of a responding proposal. The
RFP process is a means of bringing structure and transparency to the procurement decision and the
process allows both the client and potential vendors to vet each other to determine if they are suitable

Drafting and Publishing the RFP Documenting the requirements for the engagement is essential,
however the requirements need not be exhaustive as to limit the creativity of the respondents. The RFP
team needs to take care that the RFP does not include the solution to the issue. In doing so, the team is
essentially saying to the respondents, We know what is best. Consequently, some firms may conclude
that the potential client is difficult to work with and not worth the effort of responding to the RFP. This
limits the pool of respondents and the client may miss an opportunity to collaborate with a consulting
firm or product vendor whose ideas and or products are beneficial to their organization s project
success. Requirements are just a portion of the RFP, it should also include, organizational background,
short project description and project objectives: In my experience this is often the lengthiest section of
the RFP, as it describes the characteristics that define a successful outcome of the project in the team s
estimation. It is worth noting that in general, specific, closed questions are easier to evaluate and score
than open ended ones. However, open ended questions allow for creativity and may add to the
evaluation time, as well as clarity on what the consulting firm or product has to offer. The RFP

she is not getting an adequate amount of nutrients in her diet. Lynn states that she suffered from heavy

Extent Of Identity Theft In Australia
Extent of Identity Theft
Identity theft is a type of fraud, it is the deliberate use of someone else s identity. Most commonly to
gain money or obtain credit and other benefits in the victim s name. The victim whose identity has
been stolen may suffer consequences such as being held responsible for the offender s actions. Identity
theft occurs when someone uses someone else s identifying information (such as their name, credit

Identity crime is one of the most common crimes committed in Australia. Surveys suggest that
approximately 4 5% of Australians experience financial loss due to Identity crime per year. Identity
Crime s annual cost in Australia is $2.2 billion. On top of that, the cost for responding and preventing

emotions, experience can modify aspects of emotion. A person is capable of learning to inhibit or
modify the innate emotional expressions.
In the book Psychology of Emotions, Izard (1991) stated that the mechanism of basic emotions can be
modified through experience despite being genetically based. Innate emotional expressions can be
inhibited or modified by the person. For instance, anger expression involves baring one s teeth to
prepare oneself in an action of biting. However, many people clinch their teeth and compress their lips
instead. This can be seen as a mean of adapting the expression of emotion depending on the context.
This adaptation can occur for several reasons such as fear or respect.
The prophet s.a.w. said: He who does not show mercy to our little ones or recognize the rights of our
elders is not one of us (narrated by Ahmad and Tirmizi). The prophet s.a.w explicitly denounced any
who disrespects the elders from the brotherhood of the Muslim community. A firm believer and
practitioner of Islam would adhere to this hadith and control any undesirable emotional expressions
that would be regarded as

Separating Acids and Neutral Compounds by Solvent Extraction
Separating Acids and Neutral Compounds by Solvent Extraction Introduction The purpose of this
experiment was to use solvent extraction techniques in order to separate a mixture consisting of a
carboxylic acid (p toulic acid), a phenol (p tert butylphenol), and a neutral compound (acetanilide).
Extraction is the process of selectively dissolving one or more of the compounds of a mixture into an
appropriate solvent, the solution that contains these dissolved compounds is called an extract (Manion,
2004). Impurities that are present in the solution can be removed by extracting them from the original
solvent into another solvent. This is done by mixing two immiscible (insoluble to one another)
solvents (Manion, 2004). By mixing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This process was then repeated two more times with subsequent additions of 10 mL of the 0.5M
aqueous NaHCO3 and the aqueous layers drained off into the above mention labeled 100 mL beaker.
Finally 5 mL of deionized water was placed into the funnel and mixed. The water was then drained off
into the beaker containing the aqueous solution extracts. The solution was then saved until need later
in the experiment. The extraction of the p tert butylphenol was then carried out in the exact same
fashion as the p toulic acid, with the exception that the aqueous solution added to the remaining ether
solution was 10 mL of 0.5M NaOH. The solution was mixed and the gas was in the funnel, along with
the extraction of the aqueous layer three times into a clean and labeled 100 mL beaker. As in the
previous step an addition of 5 mL of deionized water was used in the final extraction step. The
extracted solution was also saved for later in the experiment as was the ether layer remaining in the
separatory funnel. 3 The retained solution from the NaHCO3 extraction was used to precipitate the P
toulic acid. Drop wise 3M HCl was added to the extracted solution carefully until no more precipitate
was formed and the solution tested acidic, with a pH reading less than 3 as indicated by pH paper
testing. A piece of clean filter paper was then weighed and the mass recorded in a lab notebook. A
vacuum filtration system was constructed with a Buchner funnel

Teotihuacan Art
Although the Olmec, Teotihuacan and Post Classic are civilizations that are years apart from each
other, many of their basic ideological concepts are extremely similar. Some scholars claim that the
forms of the objects of visual culture remain constant with the passage of time, while the symbolism
and ideology behind objects of visual culture are altered by the different civilizations that adopt the
form and by the passage of time. Form and style are directly correlated, as the style being used to
produce an object of visual culture will have an impact on its overall form and appearance. It is
evident that each civilization had their own art style, therefore, making the form to vary throughout
the different civilizations and time periods in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While certain symbols and figures maintained the significance and meanings despite the passage of
time, art styles utilized by the different Mesoamerican civilizations evolved with the passage of time.
Having a unified system in which each of the figures possessed the same meanings and importance for
each civilization, allowed for the emergence of an art style that could be easily understood and utilized
by most. Before the Postclassical International system, there was not a unified art style used through
Mesoamerica; this system was an expression of the unification among the dominant religious and
political views at the time after the fall of Teotihuacan and before the rise of Tula (Kubler Ecleticism
172). Developing a unique, yet universal style was enabled by the similarities in the ideologies of the
different Mesoamerican civilizations. Through repeated interaction, the symbols and styles merged. In
order to create a system different cultures could understand and identify, the meaning attributed to
each of the symbols had to be somewhat similar throughout the different regions. The merger could
not have occurred if the symbolized used by the different population did not resemble each other. Due
to their similarity, with repeated interaction the

The Importance Of Drama In Educational Drama
Research on dramatization activity may not always positively reported. In a non classroom setting,
Milburn and McGrail (1992) , conducted an experimental study to find whether a dramatic
presentations of news stories on TV influence the audiences ability and accuracy in receiving news.
They found that the exposure to the dramatized news stories significantly decreased participants
ability to recall the information from the stories and reduced the complexity of the news. The term of
drama or dramatization in this context of study is used in negative sense . That is, dramatization is
used in reference to the ways TV stations exaggerate the presentation of the news for political or
rating benefits. Unlike Milburn and McGrail s study, this study will take the stance of drama or
dramatization activity as an intervention strategy in education that aims to foster students learning.
In 1934, John Dewey called for the urgency of involving creative expression and exploration in U. S
educational curriculum. Gallagher, et.al. (2017) noted that in and after that period of time, literature in
the United States started to emphasize the insertion of dramatic play or play based improvisation as a
key technique to situate students to express themselves creatively and develop language and thinking
skills, as well as for teachers to see the child s real self Gallagher, et.al., ( 2017) .

Essay The Elvis Craze
The Elvis Craze The public made Elvis Presley larger than life, better known than Jimi Hendrix, John
Lennon and in some cases God Himself. I cannot quite understand the Elvis craze. I don t think he was
a handsome man, I don t enjoy his music, I won t waste my time trying to sit through one of his
boring, talentless movies, and if, God forbid, I end up on my deathbed with some horrible, incurable
disease, I certainly won t make a pilgrimage to Graceland to be miraculously healed. Jack Gould
conveyed some of my feeling in the essay TV: New Phenomenon when he wrote, Mr. Presley has no
discernible singing ability. Although he gave away cars, cash, and gifts to friends, family, and
sometimes, strangers, I can t think of any of his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his teen years, Elvis absorbed the cultural aspects and musical style of Country, Gospel, and
Rhythm Blues. He lived in the South, where Country music was most prevalent, it was sort of a given
for him for him to adopt the country music style. His parents were devout churchgoers, and Elvis
frequently attended the all night revivals, where he enjoyed jumping around and singing the gospel. It
is also known that Elvis spent quite a bit of time on Memphis s Beale Street, known for its Rhythm
Blues clubs. When Elvis did unoriginal songs that had been sung previously by other artists, he added
his own flavor that was made up of his mixed Gospel, Country, and R B background. His style drew
diverse crowds, and songs such as Hound Dog and Don t Be Cruel went to #1 in the Country, R B and
Pop charts. None of this justifies the deification of Elvis. After a brief stint in the US Army, Elvis
started concentrating more on movies. He made a wide variety of movies, GI Blues, Blue Hawaii,
Viva Las Vegas, and Fun in Acapulco to name a few. Although the movies were basically glorified
music videos, as they contained no real plot and a lot of singing, these movies and their songs made
millions. I honestly think that if the Elvis myth that is discussed in Griel Marcus s essay, Presliad, had
not already been put in place by Elvis s fans, the movies would not have grossed half the money,

Private Military Contractors In Vietnam War
In his 1960 Farewell Address, former President Dwight D. Eisenhower brought attention to the
military industrial complex , a term that is used to describe how the government uses private industry
to meet its various demands during war or peace. Since World War I and World War II, the United
States has witnessed a greater connection between the public and private sectors as private industry
pumped out the goods to keep the government and country going. Similarly, there were changes on the
battlefield as now private contractors became common sights. Eventually, the government would call
on private contractors to provide aid on the military battlefield and even fight in some instances. The
use of non governmental workers on the battlefield ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to 160,000 US troops. During the war, these contractors served various purposes such as logistical
support and the security of convoys and bases. Moreover, about 199,783 contractors were employed
by the US in Iraq and Afghanistan in fiscal year 2010 , which truly demonstrates how far the

High Chektogenic Diets
There are several diets which are designed to help obese individuals to reduce weight. Due to the fact
that so many illnesses (e.g. diabetes, high cholesterol) are related to the effects of obesity,
understanding the physiology of weight loss has become ever so important. One of the most popular
and widely researched diets, which are used for the treatment of obesity, is the ketogenic diet. This
diet is not only known for its use in the treatment of obesity, but is also known to play a positive role
in the treatment of several illnesses. Initially, this diet was solely used for treating people with
epilepsy. However, starting from the 1970s, the diet became known for its role in promoting weight
loss and also in the treatment of other illnesses (e.g. cardiovascular disease). In addition, the diet is

diet, but the group on the high carbohydrate high fat diet (which ate just as many calories as the
ketogenic diet group) showed an average increase of 6 lbs and twice the increase in body fat
composition (as shown via DEXA measurement). The average body fat composition of all animals in
other groups remained at around 3.4 lb per animal. Although both groups lost the same amount of
weight, the metabolic rate (gathered by the CLAMS apparatus) of the ketogenic diet mice was 15%

Evaluating Mission Statement
Evaluating Mission Statements
Mission impossible! To some companies, creating a quality mission statement is almost an impossible
challenge. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the mission statements of Home Depot and Nike.
The evaluation starts with an explanation of criteria for a quality mission statement; then assesses
whether Home Depot and Nike meet such criteria. The assessment will show that the mission
statement of Nike is much more effective than that of Home Depot. Nike s mission statement easily
meets more quality criteria.
A quality mission statement for a company follows certain specific criteria. In the article entitled

In the scholarly article entitled The Relevance of Mission Statements: Analysing the Antecedents of
Perceived Message Quality and Its Relationship to Employee Mission Engagement, Desmidt (2016)
proclaims that high levels of mission comprehension ambiguity in mission statements cause a
detrimental impact on motivational power (pp. 898 899). The ambiguity and length of the mission
statement fails to meet the criteria for clarity. The sheer length of space taken in the previous
paragraph to cite the mission statement serves as evidence of its failure to meet criteria for shortness,
sharpness, and specificity. In the textbook Strategic Management for Organizations, Abraham (2012)
defines a mission statement as a concise statement and declares, It should not contain statements of
values, strategies, or objectives (although many companies make this error) (p. 40). Home Depot is
one of those many companies who made this error by openly incorporating eight core values.
Furthermore, the length and vagueness also make the mission statement quite forgettable. The term
broad is used to describe the company s selection of products, but can also be used to describe its
mission statement. In illustrating the criteria to be realistic, Kotler affirms, The company should avoid
making the mission too narrow or too broad (as cited in Olsen, 2010,

Traditional Fine Arts Response To Futurism
The Machine Aesthetic
Traditional Fine Arts Response to Mechanisation
Marinetti addressed the death of traditional art in his Futurist Manifesto of 1909 when he stated Why
should we look back, when what we want is to break down the mysterious doors of the Impossible?
Time and Space died yesterday. We already live in the absolute, because we have created eternal,
omnipresent speed (2001 21 2). Marinetti, among with artists of the Futurist, Vorticist and
Constructivist movements of the 20th century, believed that mechanisation was fundamental to
creating a new future where machines played a vital role in modern society. The traditional style of
painting and sculpture in accordance to Futurist principles had no place in this new future. ... Show

Kulten discusses how Epstein destroyed The Rock Drill (1913 15) because in its complete form, it was
almost too symbolic and in order to cope with his work, had to reduce it to an aesthetic work only
(1969 65). Epstein took the synthetic man and removed the legs and parts of the arms, leaving only the
torso which he cast into a bronze bust in 1916. Having been involved in sculpture his entire artistic
career, Epstein reverted back to the traditional methods of creating sculptures in order to gain
familiarity in his work again. As a result of returning to traditional themes, Epstein s work lost a
majority of the revolutionary aspects that made The Rock Drill (1913 15) an important work for the
recurring theme of mechanisation that enveloped society in the early half of the 20th century (Kulten,
1969 65). Torso in Metal from The Rock Drill (1916) is an important work to consider when exploring
the machine aesthetic, as it is the expression of a frightful artist, unable to cope with the mechanical
world, thus turning his greatest creation into a lifeless bust with minimal meaning or

  • 2. Free Movement of Goods Free Movement Of Goods Research Title: The ECJ has been a key institution in the community in integrating the laws of the MS. Nowhere is this more obvious in relation to national laws on free movement of goods. With reference to the EC law on free movement of goods, cortically discuss whether the decision of the ECJ in this area either confirm or disprove this statement. Introduction As the raison d etre of the common market, the free movement of goods may be regarded as a fundamental freedom common to all states holding membership of the European Community. The role of the European Court of Justice as a decision maker is critical in maintaining and ensuring that free movement can prevail between the United States of Europe. Its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to this definition: all trading rules enacted by Member States which are capable of hindering, directly or indirectly, actually or potentially, intra Community trade are to be considered as measures having an effect equivalent to quantitative restrictions. This declaration is demonstrative of the ECJ s strict interpretation of their duty to enforce the principle of EC legislation in this area. For example, it is not necessary to show an actual hindrance to trade between Member States: it is quite sufficient that the measure should merely be capable of such an effect. It is interesting to note that a measure which is not capable of hindering trade between Member States, which merely affects the flow of trade within a Member State, will not breach Article 28. In Oebel 6 a Belgian law banning the production and delivery to consumers and retail outlets of bakery products during night hours, designed to protect workers in small and medium sized bakeries, was held not to be in breach of Article 28. Although delivery of imported products through the same outlets was precluded, trade within the Community remained possible at all times . Moreover, a measure falling within the Dassonville formula but which is solely to the disadvantage of domestic products will not infringe Community law (Jongeel Kaas BV v Netherlands ) 7. • 4. Gambling Addiction In Today s Society In today s society we American s suffer from many addictions. Some people have a drinking problem. Other people have a nicotine addiction. And then there are those who can not seem to kick the illegal drug use. But, all of these addictions are well known and can be treated almost as easily as the common cold. For example, smokers not only have the patch, but they have prescribed gum, billboards and commercials telling people not to smoke, and health programs in schools across the country advising kids not to smoke by showing them ungodly pictures of the effects smoking has to the inside of a person s body. Oh, and let s not forget about the over budgeted attempt to help those who have a drinking problem. It seems that we have done everything from banning alcohol, to setting up A. A. programs, to having interventions. Then we have the lawbreakers those who use and sell drugs. Heck, everybody goes out of his or her way to rehabilitate these people and advise them not to ... What most people do not know is that gambling can be a compulsion where people are so obsessed with gambling that they gamble for a high. Much like people who have alcohol, drug, and nicotine addictions there is little help out there for people who have gambling addictions because of that misconception. For many Americans, gambling is considered a pastime. However, what they don t know is that gambling may lead to a serious addiction. The causes of this addiction can vary. Some people may have gambling passed onto them through their parents genes, others may have gotten the addiction through the pressures of their surrounding environment, but the biggest reason today most people get the addiction is because of the fact that gambling has become more and more ... • 5. Lineage-Based Perspective With there being more than 50,000 species of vertebrates alone it is essential for all biology majors to have a working knowledge of the tree of life. The two perspectives for teaching zoology are the Linnean taxonomical and the Phylogenetic clade based perspective. The Linnean taxonomical perspective is a rank based hierarchy while the phylogenetic clade based perspective groups species by focusing a common ancestor and its descendants. In regards to teaching zoology there is more value in using the phylogenetic clade based perspective rather than the Linnean perspective because it allows students to organize the details of biodiversity with a more rational system. Phylogenetic taxonomy focuses on common ancestry and derived functional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example; Coleoptera contains over three hundred thousand species while Primate contains roughly four hundred species including the human (Ballen, Cissy J., and Harry W. Greene). This lack of criteria is what causes the exclusion of taxonomic acknowledgment of major evolutionary innovations while inaccurately portraying history. It is also mentioned in Greene s more recent journal that the Linnean method fails at specifying clades based upon the origin of limbs in tetrapods and shelled egg amniotes. While it also, obscures the fact that crocodilians are more closely related to birds than they are to turtles, lizards, and snakes, which does not highlight many dramatic similarities between earlier archosaurs (Ballen, Cissy J., and Harry W. Greene). These two main concerns of omission and obscuration are why the phylogenetic clade based system is a far more valuable and beneficial methodology for teaching zoology. As it was mentioned previously, the phylogenetic clade based perspective only recognizes monophyletic taxa, which are those taxa derived from a common ancestor not shared with any other group. There is another argument being made that paraphyletic groups should not be included as units of study within a zoology course. Paraphyletic and monophyletic units of study both have their benefits and drawbacks however I believe that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It gives students a better understanding of their academic abilities and prevents students from being powerless in their own education. Grades have served to dehumanize students. Instead of being seen as full, complete beings they are reduce to A students, C students, and students failing the class. This judgment is not only made by their teachers but by society as a whole. Parents often set standards for what their kids grades need to be and punish them if they don t reach the mark. Friends and classmates compare the results of tests and report cards, making learning into a competition where some are better than others. Additionally, and perhaps the most disturbingly, for some students, grades become a reflection of their own worth. It doesn t help that in many ways our future is defined by our GPA. In a world where grades carry such weight, they can seem awfully fatalistic. A streak of bad ones can look like the end of a dream career. A friend of mine is facing just that reality. Her GPA is lower than she expects and lower than what it takes to get herself to grad school. With the added possibility of disappointing her parents or losing her scholarship, each assignment is an anxiety provoking threat, which could take her closer to failure. The way we ve set up schools, once your grades drop, it becomes increasingly hard to bring them back up. Many students faced with mounting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Mental, Physical And Body Aspects Human behavior has been analyzed over time, along with conditions that have been put into perspective, about mental, physical and body aspects. These aspects of a human being are very important for normal functioning of a person in society. When one s mental thought process is affected, proper reasoning is not possible, and in turn the behavior becomes erratic. One such condition that is directly connected to this mental situation is psychosis. Apart from affecting the mental condition, it also affects the sensory and cognitive abilities. Psychosis is defined as a disorder that causes one to have experiences that are out of touch with reality. According to Von (2010), this is not a disease, but just a clear symptom of a mental illness. Psychotic people have a tendency to have untrue thoughts, or are deluded and they have hallucinations. Von (2010) goes on to explain that these symptoms are uniquely divided into positive and negative results. Different psychotic disorders are categorized on the basis of the duration, bizarreness of the delusions and the intensity of mania or depression. Non affective psychosis tends to have negative symptoms, longer duration and bizarre delusions, while affective psychosis has fewer negative symptoms that are related to bipolar disorder (Von, 2010). A mental health professional can only recognize psychosis in a client by observing major changes in their behavior. These changes are such as the abrupt loss of interest in activities that one ... • 9. Montagu And Capulet In William Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet Once upon a time there lived in Verona two great families named Montagu and Capulet. They were both rich, and I suppose they were as sensible, in most things, as other rich people. But in one thing they were extremely silly. There was an old, old quarrel between the two families, and instead of making it up like reasonable folks, they made a sort of pet of their quarrel, and would not let it die out. So that a Montagu wouldn t speak to a Capulet if he met one in the street nor a Capulet to a Montagu or if they did speak, it was to say rude and unpleasant things, which often ended in a fight. And their relations and servants were just as foolish, so that street fights and duels and uncomfortablenesses of that kind were always growing out of the Montagu and Capulet quarrel. Now Lord Capulet, the head of that family, gave a party a grand supper and a dance and he was so hospitable that he said anyone might come to it except (of course) the Montagues. But there was a young Montagu named Romeo, who very much wanted to be there, because Rosaline, the lady he loved, had been asked. This lady had never been at all kind to him, and he had no reason to love her; but the fact was that he wanted to love somebody, and as he hadn t seen the right lady, he was obliged to love the wrong one. So to the Capulet s grand party he came, with his friends Mercutio and Benvolio. Old Capulet welcomed him and his two friends very kindly and young Romeo moved about among the crowd of courtly ... Agency in sustaining an engaged lifestyle does not just derive from naive optimism (e.g., the little engine that could ), but rather from a whole constellation of resources crafted over the life span that puts force behind ones sense of agency (e.g., Infurna, Gerstorf, Ram, Schupp, amp; Wagner, 2011). Cognitive capacity does not come for free. By some estimates, proficiency in a substantive skill requires about 10,000 hours of deliberate practice (Ericsson, Krampe, Tesch Römer, 1993; Gladwell, 2008). The normalization of optimal life span cognitive development, then, will ultimately derive from cultural and social institutions (e.g., health care, educational resources) that position individuals for effective engagement in experiences and activities that nurture cognition on a large scale over extended time. In the pages that follow, we consider the factors that have potential to contribute to cognitive resilience through the life span. The 10,000 hour rule implies that not all skills will be developed to an equal extent and that cognitive resilience must entail selectivity in what is optimized, as well as compensatory strategies for managing activities that depend on nonoptimized skills. Because plasticity decreases with age, the 10,000 hour rule might be expected to become something like a 15,000 hour rule for new skills developed in late life. However, the 10,000 hour rule also implies that by mid to later adulthood, investment in skill development of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Allied Bombing Of Germany In Ww2 Analysis Assess the significance of the Allied bombing of Germany in WWII Despite the allied bombing of Germany in WWII perhaps appearing to be significant, overall, it was only such to a limited extent. It is possible to analyse the extent to which the bombing was significant in four aspects: economic, morale, international relations and others theatres of war. The extent to which they were significant will be assessed against their respective pre war expectations. Whilst each dimension are important, I am going to specifically focus on economic and moral because they were the main objectives of the Allies, and directly affected Germany. Beginning with the economic aspect, by bombing Germany, the Allies strived to damage their economy, as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the whole, this is the most significant point that will be discussed because simply, the Eastern Front is where the war was won and it also facilitated the landing of the allied troops in Normandy D Day. Stalin had been longing for the opening of the second front to draw German tanks and infantry away from the Eastern Front. The crucial aerial bombing meant that Germany had to withdraw anti tank guns from the Eastern front and instead, use them to fight the British bombers in the sky. This was evident with the AA Defence System (88mm tank guns) which could no longer inflict damage upon the Red Army and the Soviets. Similarly, the Germans had to divert money and manpower (infantry) to provide a significant enough opposition to discourage the Allies from continuing with their long range offensives. As well as diversion of resources, the priority of the German manufacturers shifted greatly whereby the number of fighters increased on the German front from 1405 to 1650 in 1943 44, but decreased on the Eastern Front from 445 to 425 in 1943 44. The switch of bombers to fighters meant that troops on the front line did not have a protective air force. This, along with the minimalised production of weapons, reduced the war effort served by the Germans on the Eastern Front. The only fight which the Germans could put up there was defensive which inevitably, gave ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When the Fraser Institute called me last year, they rang up and said they were having a conference and we would like to invite you, and I thought I think you have the wrong person. Basically, everybody else there, except myself and one person from Nova Scotia, were in favour of privatization and very strongly in favour of it, especially with respect to prisons. It was actually very educational and interesting to engage in that debate. First of all I would like to thank you very much for the invitation and to wish you all the best with your new programme. So on the one hand we are surrounded by the phenomenon and on the other hand we don t know as much about it as we should. Even my own work, I might add, privatization is more or less a tangent for me as I do other areas of research. I think it is indication that very few people in Canada, criminologists, are systematically focussing on this but I keep getting roped back into this. I just wish I had three lives at once so that I could pursue it the way I really want to. Privatization is an area that really needs attention, and lets hope that students here at St. Thomas are going to take this up. Let me just mention one or two topics that need attention. Many people talk about privatization in criminal justice, including myself, mention that it is likely that private companies will try and influence criminal justice policy in various places. Yet when you look for the empirical support for this there is very little factual information there. Or we talk a bit about the decline of the military in industrial conflicts, the end of the Cold War, and new markets opening up for these companies internationally and we see some of the companies moving from the United States into Britain, Australia and now also Canada, and we hear things about them moving into Latin American countries and East European countries, but again this international dimension is one that there has been very little systematic research on. I will show the reader the different ways we can understand the mercy of God in the Parable of the Prodigal Son through the following sections that describe the process of mercy as a conversion, from who are the main characters in the parable within the gospel of Luke to how that mercy is destroyed by the different actions of the human being. The (1) first section is about who are the human beings in the Parable of the Prodigal Son, their principal role and actions in the story followed by; (2) section two about the self awareness of the Prodigal Son, who was truly the prodigal son and what he desired in life; (3) the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Parable of the Prodigal Son is extremely rich in meaning, especially in mercy. Mercy constitutes the center of Christian spirituality and of our life in Christ; it is a very clear and profound representation of the reality of the human being when he does not appreciate the goodness and love of God. The parable of the Prodigal Son presents the moment in which the youngest son moves away from the father in a selfish way, disregarding the goodness of the fatherly love, to begin an uncertain journey that he believes will bring him to fuller and more abundant life, and he departs in search for freedom and happiness. The parable describes, then, a progress; slow at first, but triumphant at the end when he returns, with a broken heart and freely abandoned, to his father s house. The God of Mercy in the parable invites the human being to discover the meaning of life through the experience of the lost son who begins to discover himself as a human being and reveals himself before his ... • 17. Summary Of Origins Of The Final Solution By Christopher... The Origins of the final solution by Christopher Browning gives a comprehensive review of what led up to the final solution. He belongs to the school of thought of moderate functionalism, that the final solution was led up to, and that policies enacted led up to it, with no premeditation. He argues that the final solution happened because of previous attempts to create a Judenfrei Europe that did not have enough success. It uses multiple types of evidence to prove this thesis. First it talks about Jewish policy in Poland, involving deportation and in turn the resettlement of Volksdeutsche. The problem with this is that it does not have enough success, with deportation rates at a low 40% on average. In addition, many government officials were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why or why not? The overhead spending is greater than the direct labour costs or the direct material costs for all three product lines Valves, Pumps and Flow Controllers (Exhibit 2). Overheads are simply charged at 185% constant for three diverse products. The fact that there is huge variance in the number of units produced per production run it is 375 for valves and 18 for flow controllers per production run. Background/ Context Terrorism is not a new occurrence; it is a common feature of Northern Irish history due to the conflict of The Troubles (MI5 Secret Services, 2016; Newburn, 2013; Wright, 2010). Traditional terrorism like that of the IRA (Irish Republican Army) in Northern Ireland predominantly occurred within local geographical parameters and against specific targets, it also operated in a fairly predictable nature (Morgan, 2004, Wright, 2010). • 23. The Biofuel Industry Biofuels have been used as a source of energy for thousands of years. Wood was the first biofuel to be used as a means to create fires for cooking. Since that time we have discovered numerous ways to use them and the various forms of biofuels that are available for use. Presently our use of biofuels consists largely of additives to gasoline in the form of ethanol. Ethanol is found in almost all of our gasoline products today, in which about 10% is typically mixed as an additive. Some gas stations are now offering nearly pure ethanol fuel known as E85 which is 85% ethanol. This makes ethanol the most common biofuel used worldwide. In response to this, farmers around the world have increased biofuel plant production as a means to meet the new growing demand for it. As time goes on, more modern farming practices are expected to continue to increase the output at which farmers can grow corn and other ethanol producing plants thereby fueling the biofuel gas industry. With more resources available to use, ethanol will be an even cheaper additive than it is now. Biofuels as a whole are made up of a large variety of organisms or their byproducts, leaving a multiple of sources to choose from. As the body works to produce red blood cells at an increased rate, the need for iron may exceeds the available stores. The result is iron deficiency anemia. This limits the pool of respondents and the client may miss an opportunity to collaborate with a consulting firm or product vendor whose ideas and or products are beneficial to their organization s project success. Requirements are just a portion of the RFP, it should also include, organizational background, short project description and project objectives: In my experience this is often the lengthiest section of the RFP, as it describes the characteristics that define a successful outcome of the project in the team s estimation. It is worth noting that in general, specific, closed questions are easier to evaluate and score than open ended ones. However, open ended questions allow for creativity and may add to the evaluation time, as well as clarity on what the consulting firm or product has to offer. The RFP commonly ... A person is capable of learning to inhibit or modify the innate emotional expressions. In the book Psychology of Emotions, Izard (1991) stated that the mechanism of basic emotions can be modified through experience despite being genetically based. Innate emotional expressions can be inhibited or modified by the person. For instance, anger expression involves baring one s teeth to prepare oneself in an action of biting. However, many people clinch their teeth and compress their lips instead. This can be seen as a mean of adapting the expression of emotion depending on the context. This adaptation can occur for several reasons such as fear or respect. Extraction is the process of selectively dissolving one or more of the compounds of a mixture into an appropriate solvent, the solution that contains these dissolved compounds is called an extract (Manion, 2004). He lived in the South, where Country music was most prevalent, it was sort of a given for him for him to adopt the country music style. His parents were devout churchgoers, and Elvis frequently attended the all night revivals, where he enjoyed jumping around and singing the gospel. It is also known that Elvis spent quite a bit of time on Memphis s Beale Street, known for its Rhythm Blues clubs.
