Boys And Girls Summary
A woman job is to keep her man happy. This has been the societal expectation for girls or women
rather, for centuries. If a marriage fails, the first concern is, did the wife satisfy her man in their
marriage. Boys are expected to be the providers, while girls are to stay at home and keep her mister
happy and satisfied as for as he is the one sustaining for their needs. A. Munro used Boys and Girls to
convey the idea that males are prominent to females in the society because it exhibits the important
duties, titles and privileges that are compiled to boys but remotely to girls.
When girls try to prove their worth in the society, they are obstructed with situations. Situations that
they may experience starting from a young age, such as the need to stay home in order to be trained by
the women figures in the family and be able to fulfill the duties that awaits them later in life;
becoming a wife and a mother, precisely as the society expects them to be. Moreover, they are
neglected to be given the chance to perform tasks that are envisioned to be difficult and manly. Tasks
such as working in a farm. The protagonist in the story is a girl who prefers manly duties and have had
a hard time accepting her true purpose in life. She perceived the roles associated with women, not as
important as the duties given to males. For example, her mother s duty is to stay home to make sure
that all the daily household chores are completed. Not to mention, her mother serves as a helpful

A Relationship Between Hero And Her Eventual Suitor
In this passage, the reader is exposed to two distinct categories of relationships, one of which being
the relationship between Hero and her eventual suitor which is a type of relationship borne out of
necessity and social conformity. Both Anthony s and Leonato s statements in this passage support this
traditional ideal of marriage and love by dictating to Hero her answer in regards to the impending
proposal from whom Hero s family believes to be Don Pedro rather than granting her the power of
choice. Anthony blatantly assumes that Hero will adhere to the course of action her father wishes
saying, Well, niece, I trust you will be ruled by your father (2.1.42 43). If Hero is being ruled by the
desires of her father, it makes her decision to say yes one of necessity in that she must give the answer
of her father and not that in her own heart for fear of some sort of retribution. Leonato later reinforces
this notion about relationships in stating, Daughter remember what I told you. If the Prince do solicit
you in that kind, you know your answer (2.1.56 57). Alone this statement is somewhat vague leaving it
available to some interpretation, one of which being that Leonato is reassuring Hero that she
discovered the response that best fits her desires in a conversation held offstage and that she should
not second guess herself. However, if this reminder is applied within the context of Anthony s
previous statement it takes on a different meaning that reinforces this

Ernest Shackleton was the captain of Endurance. Endurance is a ship that was sailing to the south
pole. The south pole is in Antarctica, Antarctica is very cold.the average temperature is 70 degrees
fahrenheit. The Endurance was gonna be the first ship ever to make it to the south pole. There was too
much ice. The boat crashed into the ice. The ice punctured a hole in the ship. They couldn t sail with a
hole in the boat. They had to walk on the ice to the south pole.

Sir Ernest Shackleton was born on February 15, 1874. Shackleton was an explorer. He was born in
Ireland and moved to England when he was a young boy. His dream was to be the first person to make
it to the south pole. When he was young, his father urged Ernest to go to medical school just like him .
But at age 16 he joined the british navy, achieving the rank of first mate by the age of 18, and
becoming a certified master mariner six years later. He had to go to Antarctica but he couldn t finish
the voyage because he got sick and had to go back home.
On August 1st, 1914 he went back to Antarctica. The trip lasted a whole 747 days. They were rescued
at elephant island on august 15, 1916. The reason he is important is because he was the first person to
get to Antarctica and he did it with 28 people, astonishingly no one died! He went back for a fourth
trip, but sadly he of a heart attack on board the ship. He died at age 47. He was buried in Grytviken,

Becoming A Store Manager For Big O Tire Essay
In 2007, I was a mortgage originator and after the fall of the mortgage market I decided to make my
way back to the automotive world by becoming a store manager for Big O Tire. I was a store manager
for Evans Tire in the past and I knew that I could generate enough income to support my family
managing a service center again. I have seen a lot of automobiles come through the service bay doors
throughout the years with long overdue vehicle maintenance. One group of vehicle owners seems to
be the worst defenders of them all. The way BMW owners neglect their prized possession is an
incredibly deplorable act. I remembered having to explain to these narcissistic vehicle owners why
they needed to pay extra money for synthetic oil and how skipping it just this once would not be okay.
One gentlemen in particular used to put his dirty engine air filter in front of his beaming headlights
and would love to look to see if the light would shine through. It passed the test put it back! He used to
say every time with such passion. Of course, he thought he was saving money on frivolous air filters,
not thinking of the hidden cost of his fuel mileage. The majority of Americans have a vast problem
with the over consumption of fuel while over paying at the pump. It s not just buying the correct grade
gasoline at the pump that needs to be addressed, the desire to increase the miles per gallon on the
vehicles we drive is also important. The average American does not seem to make

Oliver Twist Essay

Oliver Twist
How does Charles Dickens represent the crimes and criminals in the novel Oliver Twist ?
Introduction
In the novel Oliver Twist, Dickens was trying to show that the Victorian viewpoint of crime was
wrong. His novel shows that many criminals were forced to be one(criminal) rather than being born as
one. Dickens includes the condition of the workhouses which were very basic and the work was hard
and unforgiving, he described this to set the scene of how young children coped when they were alone
in the world. He presents some criminals as innocent victims that have been pulled into a life of crime
through desperation and despair such as Oliver and Nancy, however ... Show more content on

He is trying to show that although most criminals shouldn t fit into the stereotype some do and people
should be wary of them. Bill Sikes is portrayed as the real villain in Oliver Twist, he is a thuggish
criminal who is violent and often takes advantage of others, and he chooses his life of crime and
enjoys it. Like Fagin, Sikes is shows as an animal or something that is evil and corrupted. Sikes is
often described with a heaving chest and savage resolution . This shows characteristics of an animal
with a savage nature, the language indicates that Dickens is trying to show the fact that Bill is not only
a criminal he is a mean criminal who has no compassion or thoughts for anyone. In comparison he
thinks about himself a lot, and concentrates on not getting caught rather than what he is actually doing.
When Sikes is murdering Nancy, Dickens uses vocabulary such as dragged, hurled, and struggled;
these words imply anger and brutality. Sikes uses his violence to take control of people and this
amplifies the Victorian view of a criminal. In Sikes character Dickens is trying to suggest that there
are some vicious and dangerous criminal in London that people should be wary of. Sikes is a leader of
the criminal underworld and is helping to trap innocent and naïve young

Pythagoras Dbq
Being one of the greatest philosophers of his time, Pythagoras created a society of skilled
mathematicians who worked together to facilitate mathematics, showed how numbers can be
independent, and proved the Pythagorean theorem, making him iconic in mathematics today. His
discoveries of simple yet essential methods are prevalent today throughout many mathematical fields
in which they are treasured.
The creations of Pythagoras were very powerful during the era in which he lived in. He created a
community of followers (known as the Pythagoreans) who believed that mathematics was
fundamental and at the heart of reality (source 1). The people in the society were all proficient
mathematicians took mathematics very seriously, to the extent that it was similar to a religion (source

Firstly, the Pythagoreans were unique in comparison to other societies at the time. They vowed to keep
the society a secret and were one of the first recorded societies to practice vegetarianism (source 2).
Secondly, during a time when numbers were always present with subjects or units, Pythagoras
changed the way that people think about numbers by also treating them independently as entities;
without units (source 1). He manipulated values on shapes in order to find formulas that would further
ease mathematics (source 1). As he studied shapes, Pythagoras was able to prove that, on a right
triangle, a^2 + b^2 = c^2 (source 1). In addition to this, he allowed for women to be in his secret
society, which stood out in an era where men were considered to be more powerful (source 1).

The Role Of Women In EuripidesBacchae
Throughout Euripides Bacchae, there are plot elements, which seem out of place for a tragedy, such as
Pentheus frolicking around in women s clothing. However, these out of place comedic elements serve
as a way to highlight the underlying conflicts in the play. One of these seemingly out of place plot
elements is the comedic way Agave handles the death of her child. On the surface, her comedic
behave or depicts women as foolish and weak, therefore making women seem inferior to men.
However understanding Agave s comedic behavior reveals the underlying conflict between how
women should behave in society versus how they behave in the story. Therefore, understanding the
way Agave handles the death of her son emphasizes the role of women in the patriarchal Greek
society. Understand the underlying meaning of Agave s comical behavior illustrates the oppression the
women face in the patriarchal Greek society. On the surface, the comedic way Agave handles her son s
death presents women as foolish and weak. Agave is oblivious that with hands alone . . . [she] caught
[Pentheus] and tore [him] limb from limb even though she holds his head in her hands (Bacchae
1209/10). Consistently, Agave believes that the bloody item she holds in her hand is the head of a lion,
rather than the head of her own beloved child. Agave s obliviousness is a form of dramatic irony,
which Euripides uses on the surface to represent Agave, as well as the other women, as rationally
inferior to men. This

What Is The Difference Between Modern And Modern Society
ompare and contrast traditional and modern society There is nothing more in the world that can arouse
people sympathy than by seeing children and women live in a harsh living environment and being
abused on both mental and physical perspective. In Old society, people are hemmed by their family
honor, inborn mission, society rules. They never have freedom and rights to choose and persuade joy,
dream; they live for their union in their whole life. On the other hand, modern people have democracy
and rights to plan their life, and whom they want to be, but they are also confined by advanced
technology, and social rules, and social norms. Women and children who live in modern society have
much higher social status than old days. However, if you ask, do people who live in nowadays live
better life than those people who live in early society. My answer is no. Although both modern culture
and traditional society are misfortune in their way, I am more sympathetic to those who live in
contemporary society. Both modern people and traditional people are confined by social rules. Both

people who incorporate a business, or succeed their family business, usually have their family (most
of the time parents) support by introducing them to senior of the business, or friends who could help

Fueled By The National Momentum For Social Reform During
Fueled by the national momentum for social reform during the post World War II era, the United
Kingdom restructured their health care system in 1946 to a socialized form where the federal
government both regulates and administers universal health care to its residents through the National
Health Service program. General income taxes fund the entirety of this health care program and the
single payer nature of this system has eliminated the need for insurance companies since the federal
government directly finances every British resident s medical bills at the time of their treatment. The
National Health Service provides health care coverage for all 64.6 million residents of Great Britain
which removes the financial burden of individuals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the name implies, the National Health Service provides health care services to only permanent
residents and any international visitors, including British born citizens, must pay a package rate for
health care treatment that the government predetermines. The Washington Post s assessment of Great
Britain s health care system reveals that this package rate that foreign visitors must pay for basic
medical procedures is significantly inexpensive when compared with other industrialized countries.
According to the gov.uk website, this National Health Service even provides immediate coverage to
new immigrants by making them pay a surcharge as part of their immigration application to enter into
the system. Since a majority of health care treatments in Britain are fully covered by the National
Health Service, T.R. Reid in the PBS documentary, Sick Around the World , explains that no British
residents fall into bankruptcy due to an inability to pay medical bills. The nhs.uk website further
highlights the wide scope of health care coverage that the National Health Service provides by

treatments, diagnostic screenings, pediatric care, emergency care, nursing facilities, long term care,
and end of life care without any out of pocket payments. Despite being one of the top five of the

Types of Bridges
There are 4 major types of bridges. We have a separate page for each type of bridge. Please go to one
of the following pages. Beam The beam type is the simplest type of bridge. The beam bridge could be
anything as simple as a plank of wood to a complex structure. It is made of two or more supports
which hold up a beam. Arch In the arch type of bridge, weight is carried outward along two paths,
curving toward the ground. Suspension/Cable stayed The deck (trafficway) of a suspension bridge is
hung by cables which hang from towers. The cables transfer the weight to the towers, which transfer
the weight to the ground. Cable stayed bridges have towers, but cables from the towers go directly to
the road deck, instead of spanning from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, they are widely used as the deck elements of cable stayed and suspension bridges, where
the torsional stiffness of a box is important for the dynamics of such long span bridges. Truss bridges
A truss is a triangulated framework of elements that act primarily in tension and compression. It is a
light weight yet very stiff form of construction. Truss girders were common in early steel bridge
construction as welding had yet to be developed (pre 1930s) and rolled sections and plate sizes were
of a limited range. They are considered expensive to fabricate today, being labour intensive.
Maintenance issues have to be carefully addressed (for example, ease of access). However, they can
still show advantages in particular applications such as footbridges and railway bridges. Typical spans
in one form or other can range from 40m to 500m. Trusses may be used as girders below the deck
level, or as through girders with the deck at the bottom chord level. Such through truss girders
minimise the effective construction depth, and the length of approach embankments. Hence, they are
particularly suited to footbridges and railway bridges. The light weight yet stiff nature of truss bridges
also makes them ideal for demountable Bailey bridges. Trusses can also be used as arch elements (for
example, the Sydney Harbour Bridge) and as cantilever elements (for

Advantages and Disadvantage to being AArt Director
Michael Temple Professor Sigmon RWS 305 11 a.m. 14 October 2014 Need for Visual
Communication Art has been much more than just a hobby or a way of expressing ones feelings, it
was long before there was any proof of a verbal language; art was a key form of communication.
Artists create art to communicate ideas, thoughts, or feelings. They use a variety of methods such as
painting, sculpting, or illustration. Also an assortment of medians, including oils, watercolors, acrylics,
pastels, pencils, pen and ink, plaster, clay, and computers. Artists works may be realistic, stylized, or
abstract and may depict objects, people, nature, or events. Art today is the key form of the world

Through my research, artist can struggle to find a job they want or find it hard to sell their art. Those
artists who do not versatile in the different media s of art, their opportunities can be limited due to
keen completion in both salary jobs and freelance work. This is mainly due to the number of qualified
workers/artist exceeding the number of available openings in the career field. As I stated earlier, there
are some requirement to becoming an art director, and fulfilling those requirements can be difficult.
You have to at least find a job and keep it competitively to sustain an income. In a Houston Chronicle
article online by Megan Torrance mentions painters like me have trouble finding work and
commissions, ...the BLS reports that the number of charitable donations has been declining in recent
years. In spite of this, interest in the occupation has remained steady and led to a larger pool of
qualified candidate... the BLS projects the market will remain competitive from 2010 to 2020
(Chron.com). The artist occupying the art and design field is increasing while the number of jobs
openings is staying at a steady rate. This is why it is important to be versatile in multimedia of art, so
that you have more opportunities at different jobs in the art field. To be an art director you pretty much
have to be versatile in the different media s and have a few different positions under your belt to
qualify for the position. Another disadvantage to be

Descriptive research is often used as a pre cursor to more quantitatively research designs, the general
overview giving some valuable pointers as to what variables are worth testing quantitatively.
Quantitative experiments are often expensive and time consuming so it is often good sense to get an
idea of what hypotheses are worth testing.
DISADVANTAGES Because there are no variables manipulated, there is no way to statistically
analyze the results. Many scientists regard this type of study as very unreliable and unscientific . In
addition, the results of observational studies are not repeatable, and so there can be no replication of
the experiment and reviewing of the results.
SURVEY
Survey research is one of the most important areas of measurement in applied social research. The
broad area of survey research encompasses any measurement procedures that involve asking questions
of respondents. A survey can be anything forms a short paper and pencil feedback form to an intensive
one on one in depth interview. Survey may be used to reveal summary statistics by showing responses
to all possible questionnaire items. It often provides leads in identifying needed changes. May be used
to explore relationships between 2 or more variables.

In marketing and the social sciences, observational research (or field research) is a social research
technique that involves the direct observation of phenomena

The Important Role of Confederate Women in the American Civil War
Women in the Confederacy had a great impact on the Civil War. They were thrown into totally
different lifestyles ones that did not include men taking care of the land and other businesses. Women
had more control of their lives than ever before. Some took it upon themselves to get involved directly
with the war while others just kept the home fires burning. Whatever roles they played, women
contributed a multitude of skills to the Civil War effort.
The life of a plantation mistress changed significantly once her husband left to join the Southern army.
A majority of them stayed right on the land even if they were rich enough to move to a safer place.

Some, however, were much closer to the battlefield than they would have liked to have been. Lucy
Breckinridge, a nineteen year old girl who lived in the Shenandoah Valley, wrote in her diary how she
could hear the cannons over the mountains. Carrie Berry consistently wrote that her family spent a
good part of two months in the cellar while her home was being bombarded by shells. Another
nineteen year old, Sarah Morgan, from Baton Rouge, went to the levees to watch the battles, even
though it was against her mother s wishes.5 But some women took it a step further: rather than just
watching the men fight for the Southern states, a few women decided to pick up a gun and join the
ranks.
It is not known how many women actually participated in battle; however, the number seems to be
higher than anyone expected. These women played the role of the warrior and literally gave up their
gender to fight. One such case is Amy Clark. She dressed like a man to serve in the Confederate army
with her husband. After his death, she continued her service and was wounded and captured by the
Union. Once the North discovered her true identity, they released her back into the Southern army and
insisted that she wear a dress. Some say that Amy Clark may have worn lieutenant s bars on her
uniform. Another women who dressed as a man to fight was Malenda Blalock, who posed as a brother
to her husband. Another southern female warrior was Madame

3.4.1 Control Methods
Security controls include the utilization of technical and nontechnical strategies (NIST, 2002).
Technical controls are protections that are consolidated into PC hardware, programming, or firmware
such as access control mechanisms, ID, encryption techniques and intrusion detection program or

includes security approaches; operational methodology; and physical and environmental security

The Link Between Science And Crime
The link between science and crime was originated days back in 1840 s in Europe and when Spanish
physician Soler made reference to the concept of the born criminal.
No one in the history of criminology has a reputation like Cesare Lombroso.
Darwin s hypothesis of development, with its startling decisions and cautious arrangement
frameworks, in view of point by point physical portrayals of many finch mouths and ocean turtle
carapaces, is a prime sample of this new science. Taking up from where Darwin left, Cesare Lombroso
s deliberate investigation of criminal physiognomy tried to support society by recognizing crooks.
Lombroso particularly inspired by the thought of Charles Darwin that some men are hereditarily
closer to their primitive heritage of the concept of born criminal.
Lombroso was a multifaceted researcher who took a gander at for all intents and purpose each part of
the lives, minds, bodies, state of mind, words, lifestyles, and practices of criminal guilty parties with
expectations of discovering the conclusive reason for crime. He was the pioneer in actuation of
investigative systems to criminology. Lombroso turned into a well known positive criminologist. The
essential thought behind constructive criminology is that lawbreakers are conceived as being what is
indicated and not made into criminals; as it were, it is the way of the individual, not sustain, that
brings about criminal inclinations. Lombroso s fundamental theory was his concept of atavism, that

Essay on Expanding the Literary Canon
Expanding the Literary Canon
While this essay can in no way claim to contain a fully representative sampling of what various
scholars have contributed relative to the ongoing debate over the literary canon, I will attempt to
highlight three distinct positions which are all informed by John Guillory s critical contributions to the
canonical debate. First, I will discuss the concept of ideology and canon formation as Guillory first
articulated it in his 1983 essay, The Ideology of Canon Formation: T. S. Eliot and Cleanth Brooks, and
which he subsequently thoroughly revised and included in his 1993 book on canon formation, Cultural
Capital: The Problem of literary Canon Formation This essay on the ways ideology and cultural

Of course the marginal elite he is referring to here is the literary culture within the academy. He goes
on to posit that while it is unlikely that the formations of canons can ever be removed from ideological
conflicts, that in essence, this is not really saying much at all (145)! While the marriage ofideology
and canon formation may be self evident, Guillory still goes on in the essay to carefUlly delineate how
the ideological concerns of T. S. Eliot culminated in Eliot s creation ofa revisionist canon which
operated as somewhat of a shadow canon along side the established literary canon by elevating the
importance of the Metaphysical poets at the expense ofthe established poets ofthe traditional canon
Milton, Shakespeare, Keats, Shelley, Yeats, etc. According to Guillory, the recipients of Eliot s canon
(scholars, academics) the marginal elite , act as the clergy ofthe orthodoxy ofthe literary culture,
occupying, as Guillory points out, a perch not unlike that of Eliot s preferred poets: Its real status is
precisely that of Donne s poetry, which circulated among a coterie of admirers, or a marginal elite
(151).
Guillory maintains that it is Cleanth Brooks who is left with the task of translating Eliot s many
ideological concerns; the doctrine ofimpersonality relative creative invention as articulated in

Sunni-Shiite Conflict
The Sunni and Shiite branches of Islam have been feuding for hundreds of years dating back to the
beginning of the Islamic religion. The deity or god of the Sunnis is Allah. The Sunni branch of Islam
is the larger of the two branches with over 80% of the Muslim population. The Sunni are the majority
in most of the countries that have Islamic followers. There are a few different translations of what
Sunna stands for, one of which is Habitual Practice. The differences between the two branches can be
traced all the back to the 7th century CE when the disagreements as to who should succeed

The successor to Muhammad Ali was assassinated in the city of Najaf, Iraq in the year 661. The Shia
put so much emphasis on the assassination death of Ali in 661 that the city in which he was killed has
become an important place of pilgrimage for some Shia Muslims. Another important figure in the eyes
of the Shia Muslims is the grandson of Muhammad Husayn who was murdered in Karbala, Iraq in
680. The Shia recognize the event each year on Ashura, which is a day or mourning recognized
throughout the Shia branch, with a number of Pilgrimages to the city of Karbala. (Patheos.com)
In 2004 in the midst of the Iranian nuclear aspirations and the slow slide of Iraq into a civil war, there
was talk publicly of a Shia crescent in the Middle East. The president in the country of Jordan who
was a Sunni that proclaimed direct relation to the prophet Muhammad was the person that sounded the
alarm about the Shia crescent , which started at the Mediterranean Sea and ended at the Persian Gulf.
The crescent continued from the Caspian Sea to the Indian Ocean. Abdullah and Mubarak along with
the Saudi officials suggested the threat of a divided Middle East along the sectarian lines. It would put
the forever downtrodden Shia against their Sunni rulers. They thought that the first battleground might
be Iraq followed by the oil laden Persian Gulf region. If this were to occur then the Shiite leader of

Comparing and Contrasting. Nettles, Harmonium and Praise...
Compare and Contrast 3 poems from AQA GCSE Anthology, Moon on the Tides. In this piece of
writing I will be comparing and contrasting 3 poems. Which are Praise Song for my mother ,
Harmonium and Nettles. The title of each poem describes exactly what it is and what is about. Praise
Song for my Mother is not actually a poem, it is a praise son. Which in Guyana (where Grace Nichols
was born) it is something written after a person close to them has dies. It is written to commemorate
and rejoice about a persons life. Nettles is a story about a Scannells son who falls into a pit of stinging
nettles. Finally, Harmonium , Harmonium almost says what it s about in its title. If you break it down
it makes harmony, which symbolises ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the final line of Harmonium Armitage says Too starved of breath to make itself heard which means
that Armitages father is dying very quickly but neither of them want to talk about it. It shows that this
is the first time the subject has been brought up, and at this stage it is clear that Armitages dads death
will be imminently soon. This can also be the shock and realisation of what is going to happen in the
near future. Throughout the poem it shows higher emotions, as the concept of death gets drawn in
even further than it has already, it s almost like that it s telling the story of his childhood as both of
them get progressively older. This is almost exactly the same as Praise Song as throughout the poem
the words she uses in the stanzas are more powerful and have more depth to them. When Grace
Nichols says her mother was mantling to her it could mean that her mother was the core to her
survival and well being. On a secondary level, the core can also mean that her mother was the core to
her success and great life. She was the one who was always the heart and sole of everyone as she was
such a great person and cared for everyone. The flame tree s spread to me reflects the beautiful
wildlife of Guyana, with the rainbow like colours. This shows that her mother was happy, and full of
life. This links in with Harmonium when Armitage talks about The sunlight through the stained

Theme Of Change Over Time In Fahrenheit 451
The change over time is amazing. The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It
cannot be changed without changing our thinking. People change as the world around us changes but
it s those people who learn the history are the ones who change the world for the better. Past affects
the future. In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury the author, explains how one person who lives in the
present without knowing the past and works as a fireman can be so obvious to the real world. Montag

Peter Drucker, who is claimed to be the greatest management thinker of the last century [2], once

more than a century and tracing the changes and development that took place there could tell volumes
about the human history. In some way automotive industry reflects it, but if one looks deeper into it
one could notice that in some way the industry itself formed the history of the 20th century. Though

A Study Of History Coupled With Kuhn s Model For...
Delbruck s application of science to the study of history coupled with Kuhn s model for scientific
revolutions sheds light on the German High Command s inability to adapt its strategy during World
War I. To begin, Kuhn s model addresses how scientists arrive at new knowledge from periodic
revolutions or paradigm shifts. Normal science is research based on achievements where established
rules and standards leave little disagreement among practitioners concerning the fundamentals.
Consequently, problem solving uses a predetermined solution that generally fails to account for
anomalies. Scientists become aware of this, yet they hold on to the existing theory. This continues
until the theory weakens and other possibilities are considered. At a given point, crisis occurs which
might initiate a scientific revolution. Once the revolution occurs, the new paradigm often requires
rewriting texts on the subject area. Comparatively, Delbruck s use of various scientific methodologies
resulted in new ideas offering new explanations concerning historical events. Delbruck traced the
evolution of tactics by checking facts and taking note of anomalies where he reconstructed battles
from the Persian Wars to those of Napoleon. Delbruck then connected the character and design of the
state with the tactics and strategy it employed. Discovering that warfare differed from one era to the
next, his studies overturned many common interpretations of historical events. With that, Delbruck

Disconnections can lead to new connections. Use the example of migration to outline the range of
evidence to support this claim
In this essay I will attempt to highlight how disconnections can give rise to new connections, by using
the example of the diasporic Bangladeshi community found in Brick Lane, London. I shall layout a
variety of evidence both quantitive and qualitative to support the claim, and also compare diasporic
and trans local migrants.
To begin it is helpful to understand that the word migrant is a rather contested concept, one that
changes over time, and varies depending on the criteria used to assign it.(Raghuram Erel, 2014, p.133)

Forgiveness In The Rime Of The Ancyent Marinere
To earn forgiveness for a crime and claim redemption, one must endure a punishment and then show
love to the one whom he has wronged. This concept ties into the moral in the poem entitled: The Rime
Of The Ancyent Marinere, by Samuel Coleridge. The epic tackles themes of crime, punishment and
redemption. At first glance, the piece does not appear to follow a coherent pattern; however, through
close reading, a hidden logic appears behind the overwhelming chaos of the piece. He prayeth well
who loveth well/ Both man and bird and beast (Rime 1797,VII. 645 646) is a sentiment that holds
great importance for a general bettering of humanity. This moral emphasizes that to have a good life,

27 28). Taking this voyage is what aids the Marinere in learning this structure of crime, punishment,
and redemption. Through his experience, the Marinere gains the appreciation he holds for all beings,
He prayeth well who loveth well/ Both man and bird and beast (VII. 645 646). The following line is
given immediately after to ensure the reader latches onto the importance of the moral. He prayeth best
who loveth best/ All things both great and small: (VII. 647 648). This outlook is not possible earlier
because the Marinere has no experiential context for these ideas; however, his experience of dropping
below the known, gives him access to the sublime. He experiences an expanse that has obscure and
terrifying qualities which evoke the sublime (Burke 35 37). Many instances of sublimity are in events
and characters throughout the poem. For instance, the storm that blew the ship about like Chaff (I. 48),
is an event, which is terrifying. The ice figures that are many and varied portray the obscurity of the
sublime (I. 55). Ice surrounds the Marinere s ship showing the power that nature constantly maintains
over man, The Ice was here, the Ice was there,/ The Ice was all around (I. 57 58). This introduces yet
another aspect and perspective of the sublime. For the Marinere, the act of physically moving into a
space so unknown and seemingly

Why Is Secrecy Important In The Scarlet Letter
Secrecy is the key to survival when surrounded by a scornful community that is ready to pounce on
anyone s sinful past. Concealment of one s feelings not only protects one s weaknesses but also helps
in avoiding conflicts with society. Many characters in The Scarlet Letter, particularly Hester,
Dimmesdale, and Chillingworth, hide their feelings in order to keep their dark pasts from the grasps of
both each other and the Puritan society that aches to condemn the sins of criminals. In order to create
suspense throughout the story and emphasize the importance of secrecy, Nathaniel Hawthorne hides

However, the audience is never told what clues Chillingworth uncovers. In fact, Chillingworth s
thought processes are never revealed to us. For example, when he catches a glimpse of Dimmesdale s
chest in his house, the audience is not told of what he has seen. Even when Dimmesdale reveals his
chest to the Puritan crowd at the end of the novel to confess his secret sin, the audience is still not told
of what is on the chest. Interestingly, the crowd holds a variety of accounts on what was on
Dimmesdale s chest. Some say that there was a scarlet letter imprinted on his chest while others deny
that there was any mark whatever on his breast, more than on a new born infant s, (236). We are only
able to infer that there is some sort of A on Dimmesdale s chest because he tells Hester, Happy are
you, Hester, that wear the scarlet letter openly upon your bosom! Mine burns in secret! (176).
Hawthorne keeps the audience confused with the ambiguity of Dimmesdale s confession by keeping

Essay on How to Avoid Plagiarism
How to Avoid Plagiarism
Plagiarism is a growing problem in universities (Matheson Starr 2013) and becoming too common in
the scientific world (Ober et al. 2012). Hence it is important for students as well as researchers to
know how to avoid plagiarism. Before discussing the ways to avoid plagiarism, this paper discusses
the definition, the types and reasons for plagiarism. Copying or borrowing someone else s words or
ideas may perhaps be the more inoffensive way of explaining plagiarism. However, these two terms
may deliver a connotation that plagiarism is not much of a serious offense. Whether the act of
plagiarising is intentional or unintentional, it is considered as a fraud. In an academic setting
plagiarism may even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are surely many other ways of avoiding plagiarism but there are five simple rules suggested by
Ober et al. (2012).
Rule 1: Do not copy It is not a good practice to simply copy what is found in other people s work,
books or even your own writing. If you have to do so, do it properly by copying it with quotation
marks and appropriate citation. In addition to this, it is good to have a proper time management in
which you would have enough time to cite your sources properly.
Rule 2: Write in your own words Paraphrasing means putting someone else s ideas into your own
words but care must be taken as changing a few words and rearranging the original sentence is still
considered as copying . Hence, though paraphrasing is commonly suggested as one of the ways to
avoid plagiarism it is much better to avoid paraphrasing and rather use your own original voice .
Rule 3: When in doubt, cite This is one of the ways to avoid plagiarism but it should not be done
excessively. Otherwise you would end up with excessive citation in your piece of writing and lack of
writing in your own words. This is an indication for you to consider rewriting the paper.
Rule 4: Don t recycle images, figures, tables or text from one of your previously published papers
without citing This is the case of self plagiarising when you republish a figure from earlier publication
but fail to cite the original and obtain

History Of The Catatumbo Lightning
People say that lightning doesn t strike the same place twice. Well, it s practically untrue since there is
a place on earth that seems to be like a lightning rod that lures in all the lightning in one place. In
Venezuela, there is a particular spot on a lake that attracts a whopping 1.2 million lightning strikes a
year. It s hard to believe but it s about 28 lightning bolts every minute. This amount of energy is
enough to power more or less a hundred million light bulbs!

There is one instance that lightning strikes ceased to occur from January to March 2010 that
temporarily raised fears of the phenomenon being extinguished permanently but was later found out
that it was drought that caused it. Humidity in a sense may have played a vital role in the occurrence
but scientists lately say that maybe it s the region s wind patterns and unique topography that
contribute to the special phenomenon. They say that when warm winds, trapped by the surrounding
mountains in Lake Maracaibo, collides with cool air coming down from the Andes mountains, they are
forced to condense, thus creating thunderclouds.
A lot of the (lightning) hot spots are tied to features in the terrain slopes of mountain ranges, curved
coastlines, combinations of those, Dr Daniel Cecil from the Global Hydrology and Climate Centre s
lightning team told the BBC.
Having irregularities like that in the terrain can help generate wind patterns and heating or cooling
patterns that would boost the likelihood of thunderstorms.
Considering the incredible amount of lightning strikes, one may wonder if those are some kind of
extra special lightning of sort but according to studies, those lightning bolts is the same with every

decarboxylase (GAD) catalyzes the decarboxylation of glutamic acid to form GABA.4 GABA release
into the synaptic cleft is stimulated by depolarization of presynaptic neurons, which then diffuses
across into the post synaptic neurons and binds to their associated receptors. Reuptake of GABA is the
responsibility of both presynaptic nerve terminals and surrounding glial cells.4 GABA taken back up
by the nerve terminals is available for reuse however, GABA taken up by glial cells is metabolized to
succinic semialdeyde by GABA T and cannot be re synthesized because glial cells lack GAD. For
GABA to be recovered from glial cells it must be converted to glutamine, which is then transferred
back to the neurons where glutamine is converted into glutamate by glutaminase. This allows for re
entry into the GABA shunt

Similarities Between Martin Luther King And Gandhi
Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi both share the same philosophies on their approach to non
violence and directly opposing injustice, nonetheless, they have distinct methods to fight injustice,
such as the fact that Gandhi used more extreme tactics while King s techniques were more passive.
Given these points, Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi are perfect examples of individuals who
represent fighting for the good life, not only did they fight for themselves, but also for the people
around them. When King and Gandhi stood up to the injustice taking place, they both used methods of
nonviolence, though they had different ways of fighting it. Martin Luther King s philosophy towards
violence was very strategic. Whenever there was an injustice, ... Show more content on

They both represent what it means to fight for the good life and for others. King and Gandhi both
share the same philosophies on their approach to non violence and directly opposing injustice.
However, even though their philosophies are similar they have distinct methods to fight injustice.
King s philosophy regarding fighting for the good life is better than Gandhi s approach. Gandhi s
extreme methods of going on hunger strikes aren t widely practiced today and could lead to starvation
or death. Orwell even mentioned it in his book It is difficult to see how Gandhi s methods could be
applied in a country where opponents of the regime disappear in the middle of the night and are never
heard of again (Orwell, 1949). On the other hand, King s passive methods are more accepted and the
four steps to nonviolent campaigns are still being used today by activists. King and Gandhi both had
visions of the good life they wanted for themselves and others around them. King wanted the black
community to be treated fairly and have equal rights as the whites. He knew it wouldn t be given to
them and that if his people really wanted to be treated fairly they were going to have to fight
vigorously for it. In contrast, Gandhi s vision of the good life included India s independence and true
peace across the world. While Gandhi may have achieved India s independence his goal for world
peace is going to take time. A common theme between Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi is
that both died fighting and standing up to injustice. All in all, Martin Luther King and Mahatma
Gandhi are perfect examples of individuals who represent fighting for the good life, not only did they
fight for themselves, but also for the people around

Why Patience Is Mandatory In Online Romance Research Paper
Why Patience is Mandatory in Online Freelance Writing
Geoffrey Chaucer once said, Patience is a conquering virtue. Aristotle seems to have read from the
same script when he said, Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet. There is virtually no society that does
not have a proverb urging for patience. Online freelance writing can benefit greatly from such
wisdom.
There are times you will feel like quitting. Deadlines for very complex articles are approaching and
you have no materials for writing. Your internet link is weak. How about that difficult client who gives
more instructions after you have finished the job? The unexpected, especially the unpleasant, often
surprises you. Having a bad day once in a while is normal. This may sound unusual but during such
moments, you need to stop carrying the world on your shoulders, and here are the reasons:
1. Building a career in writing takes time
You need to be patient because you are building a career and this takes time. Some freelancer writers
tend to forget that theirs is a career like any other, which requires time to accumulate information and
skills. Don t expect to launch a website today and get hired tomorrow. No one wants to hire an
untested writer. You have to read ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I often hear people say that you need nothing to become a freelancer writer. This is far from the truth
especially in the developing world. How will you acquire a desktop computer or laptop without
money? If there is no free Wi Fi internet connection in your neighborhood, how will you fund internet
connections? If you want to launch a website and you are not skilled in creating one, you need money
to buy a domain name, a person to build your site and the requisite hosting fees. In essence, you need
money to operate and you may not get money as fast as you want. Start with the few resources you
have. Borrow or hire equipment where possible. You need patience to grow in this

Clarissa s Breaking Her Doors
result, Mr. Belford still calls Clarissa a suffering angles (579), as she has not yet become one of the
sinners. Mr. Lovelace once expresses his admiration towards Clarissa by saying, such a native
elegance in this Lady, that she surpasses all that I could image... her person adorns what she wears,
more than dress can adorn her, and that s her excellence (246). Clarissa seems to have innate
gracefulness and her virtues surpass all the physical objects including the clothes, to become a
valuable capital can no one could take it away from her. At the end of the story, when Clarissa dying
in a charming attitude (658) while wearing a dress in her virgin white (658), a sense of divinity shroud
her, which evidence Clarissa s regain of her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A pattern of white lily appears on Clarissa confine, with details that the head of a white Lily snap short
off, and just falling from the stalk (647). The broken part of the white lily symbolizes death and the
purity that has been taken away, which briefly conclude the tragedy that happened to Clarissa. In
addition, A crowned Serpent, with its tail in its mouth, forming a ring, the emblem of Eternity (646) is
also etched on the coffin. Since a circle has no beginning or an end, this shape represents a
philosophical idea of eternity. The way the snake bites its own tails reveals a concept of self
consumption (82), as Maud Ellmann explains in The Hunger Artists (1993), the snake could stand for
circulation, self starvation, or imprisonment, all of which contribute to Clarissa s tragedy (82). The
root cause of Clarissa s tragic life is her inability in obtaining autonomy of her life. The society
Clarissa lives in objectifies women to trade for material goods and force them to develop to fulfill
their greed. In The Rape of Clarissa (1982), Terry Eagleton claims that in this society death is indeed
the only place of inviolable security

One of Ours by Willa Cather
Margaret Elliot is beautiful, talented, critical, unsatisfied, tired of the world at twenty four (Great
Short Works, 8). Engaged to a man she has no feelings for, life feels bleak and without purpose. She
feels true love once with Eric, but just for a moment. For her whole life, Margaret had searched the
faces of men for the look that lay in his eyes. She knew that look had never shone before, would never
shine for her on earth again, that such love comes to one only in dreams or in impossible places like
this, unattainable always. This was Love s self, and in a moment it would die (Great Short Works, 29).
For Willa Cather this is how love exists. Happy relationships are plentiful, but the enchanted, all
encapsulating love of dreams only exists in glances. For Eric this glance is enough. He does not regret
his decision or the damnation he is sure it will cause. For him a day shall be as a thousand years, and a
thousand years as a day as his love lives on.
In most cases, however love is not enough. Both Margaret and Claude, the protagonist of Cather s
novel One of Ours feel this shimmer of love, but in the end must search for meaning elsewhere. Set in
a small Nebraska farm town, One of Ours opens several years before the start of the First World War.
Claude is unsatisfied with his simple life in the fields, and possesses an idealistic, romantic outlook
that propels him to search for meaning on a much different field in Europe. For Claude, who wants

Francisco Goya Research Paper
The French Revolution, which was a critical period of reformation, was an era in which war happened
frequently. Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes was an important artist of that time, who created many
artwork that portrayed wars. In the analysis of his masterpieces, people can find his disappointment in
how people pursue freedom, their ignorance, and the brutality of the wars. Freedom was one of the
main ideas in French Revolution, but in Goya s painting, he was disappointed in how the society
fought for it. In his artwork, he showed the stupidity of how people pursued freedom during that
period. In The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters (1797 1798), Goya used the mocking owls and
bats to imply folly and ignorance, while the lynx stayed alert against the monsters of greed and
stupidity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Disasters of War (1810 1820), he showed how brutal the French were in the invasion of Spain.
In the early plates of the series, Goya depicted the dead and injured are carried away, soldiers strip
corpses, which are then thrown into a common grave in the Plate 18 Bury them and keep quiet
(Tomlinson 1994, p.191). This picture wholly described how the war looked in Spain during that time:
how people were killed and then buried like it was a normal scenario. The ruthlessness of the French
also sent out another message that beauty is not only destroyed, but grotesquely ravaged to attest the
end of any faith in an ideal (p.193). In the paintings, people lost their dignity, and there are no heroes
countless unidentified victims in the picture, which indicate that humanity is only ideal in the
Revolution (p.202). The hand gestures in the paintings are in motion, which emphasized the
instantaneity of the climax. For example, in the painting, the soldiers are holding arms and already
stabbing it into the victims. The capture of the particular moment reinforce the brutality of people in
that

Doc Holliday Conflicts
Conflicts
After the Deputy Marshal for the town is killed by Curly Bill, one of the cowboys, Wyatt escorts Bill
to a hearing, where he is let go on account of there being no witness to the murder. Virgil at this point
in the film begins to develop a conciseness and volunteers to be the new Deputy Marshal. Morgan
shortly joins up with him, while Wyatt still refuses to get involved. Ike Clanton and Doc Holliday
(among others) are gambling, after Holliday wins, Ike accuses Holliday of cheating. The viewer is
lead to believe that Holliday had not cheated. Ike is arrested by Virgil and thrown in jail to sober up.
The morning after, Ike is escorted out of jail and Tom McLaury threatens Wyatt. Wyatt grabs McLaury

In fact, evidence suggests that his interactions and associations could be the reason that led to the
shooting at the O.K. Corral [2]. Essentially, Doc Holliday was friends with a William Leonard, who
was later implicated in an attempted stagecoach robbery, that resulted in the death of two of three
passengers. Prior to this event, Holliday had had a number of run ins with an individual by the name
of Milt Joyce. A number of times Holliday was arrested and taken to court for assault. These charges
were often dropped after Holliday paid court fees and the fines associated. Because of these
confrontations and Holliday s relationship with Leonard, Holliday was accused of being a part of the
gang (who mostly consisted of members of the Cowboy gang) who attempted to rob the stagecoach.
To clear Holliday s name, the Earps (Wyatt, Virgil and Morgan) formed a posse that hunted down the
other members of the gang. To find some of the men that could clear Holliday s name, Wyatt made a
deal with Ike Clanton (a known Cowboy member), Wyatt would give Ike the reward money for the
outlaws, if Ike would give information regarding their whereabouts[2]. Ike Clanton, on the other hand,
denied such a deal occurring. He said that Wyatt approached him, but he [Ike] would have nothing to
do with the deal [1]. When the outlaws were found, they (allegedly) resisted arrest and the outlaws in
the party who could clear Holliday s name were killed. Ike grew restless and fearing that the Cowboys
would hear about his deal with Wyatt [2]. Ike accused Wyatt of sharing their plan with Holliday. Ike
confronted Wyatt and later Holliday. Virgil broke up the confrontation between Holliday and Ike, and
while Holliday went to his hotel for the night, Ike continued to drink through to sunset. At this point
Ike was looking to instigate a fight with Holliday and Wyatt. Wyatt and Virgil stopped Ike as he was

  • 4. Boys And Girls Summary A woman job is to keep her man happy. This has been the societal expectation for girls or women rather, for centuries. If a marriage fails, the first concern is, did the wife satisfy her man in their marriage. Boys are expected to be the providers, while girls are to stay at home and keep her mister happy and satisfied as for as he is the one sustaining for their needs. A. Munro used Boys and Girls to convey the idea that males are prominent to females in the society because it exhibits the important duties, titles and privileges that are compiled to boys but remotely to girls. When girls try to prove their worth in the society, they are obstructed with situations. Situations that they may experience starting from a young age, such as the need to stay home in order to be trained by the women figures in the family and be able to fulfill the duties that awaits them later in life; becoming a wife and a mother, precisely as the society expects them to be. Moreover, they are neglected to be given the chance to perform tasks that are envisioned to be difficult and manly. Tasks such as working in a farm. The protagonist in the story is a girl who prefers manly duties and have had a hard time accepting her true purpose in life. She perceived the roles associated with women, not as important as the duties given to males. For example, her mother s duty is to stay home to make sure that all the daily household chores are completed. Not to mention, her mother serves as a helpful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. A Relationship Between Hero And Her Eventual Suitor In this passage, the reader is exposed to two distinct categories of relationships, one of which being the relationship between Hero and her eventual suitor which is a type of relationship borne out of necessity and social conformity. Both Anthony s and Leonato s statements in this passage support this traditional ideal of marriage and love by dictating to Hero her answer in regards to the impending proposal from whom Hero s family believes to be Don Pedro rather than granting her the power of choice. Anthony blatantly assumes that Hero will adhere to the course of action her father wishes saying, Well, niece, I trust you will be ruled by your father (2.1.42 43). If Hero is being ruled by the desires of her father, it makes her decision to say yes one of necessity in that she must give the answer of her father and not that in her own heart for fear of some sort of retribution. Leonato later reinforces this notion about relationships in stating, Daughter remember what I told you. If the Prince do solicit you in that kind, you know your answer (2.1.56 57). Alone this statement is somewhat vague leaving it available to some interpretation, one of which being that Leonato is reassuring Hero that she discovered the response that best fits her desires in a conversation held offstage and that she should not second guess herself. However, if this reminder is applied within the context of Anthony s previous statement it takes on a different meaning that reinforces this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Becoming A Store Manager For Big O Tire Essay In 2007, I was a mortgage originator and after the fall of the mortgage market I decided to make my way back to the automotive world by becoming a store manager for Big O Tire. I was a store manager for Evans Tire in the past and I knew that I could generate enough income to support my family managing a service center again. I have seen a lot of automobiles come through the service bay doors throughout the years with long overdue vehicle maintenance. One group of vehicle owners seems to be the worst defenders of them all. The way BMW owners neglect their prized possession is an incredibly deplorable act. I remembered having to explain to these narcissistic vehicle owners why they needed to pay extra money for synthetic oil and how skipping it just this once would not be okay. One gentlemen in particular used to put his dirty engine air filter in front of his beaming headlights and would love to look to see if the light would shine through. It passed the test put it back! He used to say every time with such passion. Of course, he thought he was saving money on frivolous air filters, not thinking of the hidden cost of his fuel mileage. The majority of Americans have a vast problem with the over consumption of fuel while over paying at the pump. It s not just buying the correct grade gasoline at the pump that needs to be addressed, the desire to increase the miles per gallon on the vehicles we drive is also important. The average American does not seem to make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Oliver Twist Essay English Coursework Oliver Twist How does Charles Dickens represent the crimes and criminals in the novel Oliver Twist ? Introduction In the novel Oliver Twist, Dickens was trying to show that the Victorian viewpoint of crime was wrong. His novel shows that many criminals were forced to be one(criminal) rather than being born as one. Dickens includes the condition of the workhouses which were very basic and the work was hard and unforgiving, he described this to set the scene of how young children coped when they were alone in the world. He presents some criminals as innocent victims that have been pulled into a life of crime through desperation and despair such as Oliver and Nancy, however ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is trying to show that although most criminals shouldn t fit into the stereotype some do and people should be wary of them. Bill Sikes is portrayed as the real villain in Oliver Twist, he is a thuggish criminal who is violent and often takes advantage of others, and he chooses his life of crime and enjoys it. Like Fagin, Sikes is shows as an animal or something that is evil and corrupted. Sikes is often described with a heaving chest and savage resolution . This shows characteristics of an animal with a savage nature, the language indicates that Dickens is trying to show the fact that Bill is not only a criminal he is a mean criminal who has no compassion or thoughts for anyone. In comparison he thinks about himself a lot, and concentrates on not getting caught rather than what he is actually doing. When Sikes is murdering Nancy, Dickens uses vocabulary such as dragged, hurled, and struggled; these words imply anger and brutality. Sikes uses his violence to take control of people and this amplifies the Victorian view of a criminal. In Sikes character Dickens is trying to suggest that there are some vicious and dangerous criminal in London that people should be wary of. Sikes is a leader of the criminal underworld and is helping to trap innocent and naïve young ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Role Of Women In EuripidesBacchae Throughout Euripides Bacchae, there are plot elements, which seem out of place for a tragedy, such as Pentheus frolicking around in women s clothing. However, these out of place comedic elements serve as a way to highlight the underlying conflicts in the play. One of these seemingly out of place plot elements is the comedic way Agave handles the death of her child. On the surface, her comedic behave or depicts women as foolish and weak, therefore making women seem inferior to men. However understanding Agave s comedic behavior reveals the underlying conflict between how women should behave in society versus how they behave in the story. Therefore, understanding the way Agave handles the death of her son emphasizes the role of women in the patriarchal Greek society. Understand the underlying meaning of Agave s comical behavior illustrates the oppression the women face in the patriarchal Greek society. On the surface, the comedic way Agave handles her son s death presents women as foolish and weak. Agave is oblivious that with hands alone . . . [she] caught [Pentheus] and tore [him] limb from limb even though she holds his head in her hands (Bacchae 1209/10). Consistently, Agave believes that the bloody item she holds in her hand is the head of a lion, rather than the head of her own beloved child. Agave s obliviousness is a form of dramatic irony, which Euripides uses on the surface to represent Agave, as well as the other women, as rationally inferior to men. This ... In Old society, people are hemmed by their family honor, inborn mission, society rules. They never have freedom and rights to choose and persuade joy, dream; they live for their union in their whole life. On the other hand, modern people have democracy and rights to plan their life, and whom they want to be, but they are also confined by advanced technology, and social rules, and social norms. Women and children who live in modern society have much higher social status than old days. However, if you ask, do people who live in nowadays live better life than those people who live in early society. My answer is no. Although both modern culture and traditional society are misfortune in their way, I am more sympathetic to those who live in contemporary society. General income taxes fund the entirety of this health care program and the single payer nature of this system has eliminated the need for insurance companies since the federal government directly finances every British resident s medical bills at the time of their treatment. According to the gov.uk website, this National Health Service even provides immediate coverage to new immigrants by making them pay a surcharge as part of their immigration application to enter into the system. In addition, they are widely used as the deck elements of cable stayed and suspension bridges, where the torsional stiffness of a box is important for the dynamics of such long span bridges. Truss bridges A truss is a triangulated framework of elements that act primarily in tension and compression. It is a light weight yet very stiff form of construction. Truss girders were common in early steel bridge construction as welding had yet to be developed (pre 1930s) and rolled sections and plate sizes were of a limited range. They are considered expensive to fabricate today, being labour intensive. Maintenance issues have to be carefully addressed (for example, ease of access). However, they can still show advantages in particular applications such as footbridges and railway bridges. Typical spans in one form or other can range from 40m to 500m. Trusses may be used as girders below the deck level, or as through girders with the deck at the bottom chord level. Such through truss girders minimise the effective construction depth, and the length of approach embankments. Hence, they are particularly suited to footbridges and railway bridges. The light weight yet stiff nature of truss bridges also makes them ideal for demountable Bailey bridges. Trusses can also be used as arch elements (for example, the Sydney Harbour Bridge) and as cantilever elements (for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Those artists who do not versatile in the different media s of art, their opportunities can be limited due to keen completion in both salary jobs and freelance work. This is mainly due to the number of qualified workers/artist exceeding the number of available openings in the career field. As I stated earlier, there are some requirement to becoming an art director, and fulfilling those requirements can be difficult. You have to at least find a job and keep it competitively to sustain an income. In a Houston Chronicle article online by Megan Torrance mentions painters like me have trouble finding work and commissions, ...the BLS reports that the number of charitable donations has been declining in recent years. In spite of this, interest in the occupation has remained steady and led to a larger pool of qualified candidate... the BLS projects the market will remain competitive from 2010 to 2020 (Chron.com). The artist occupying the art and design field is increasing while the number of jobs openings is staying at a steady rate. This is why it is important to be versatile in multimedia of art, so that you have more opportunities at different jobs in the art field. Whatever roles they played, women contributed a multitude of skills to the Civil War effort. The life of a plantation mistress changed significantly once her husband left to join the Southern army. Another nineteen year old, Sarah Morgan, from Baton Rouge, went to the levees to watch the battles, even though it was against her mother s wishes.5 But some women took it a step further: rather than just watching the men fight for the Southern states, a few women decided to pick up a gun and join the ranks. It is not known how many women actually participated in battle; however, the number seems to be higher than anyone expected. These women played the role of the warrior and literally gave up their gender to fight. One such case is Amy Clark. She dressed like a man to serve in the Confederate army with her husband. The Link Between Science And Crime The link between science and crime was originated days back in 1840 s in Europe and when Spanish physician Soler made reference to the concept of the born criminal. First, I will discuss the concept of ideology and canon formation as Guillory first articulated it in his 1983 essay, The Ideology of Canon Formation: T. S. Throughout the poem it shows higher emotions, as the concept of death gets drawn in even further than it has already, it s almost like that it s telling the story of his childhood as both of them get progressively older. Delbruck s application of science to the study of history coupled with Kuhn s model for scientific revolutions sheds light on the German High Command s inability to adapt its strategy during World War I. To begin, Kuhn s model addresses how scientists arrive at new knowledge from periodic revolutions or paradigm shifts. Normal science is research based on achievements where established rules and standards leave little disagreement among practitioners concerning the fundamentals. Consequently, problem solving uses a predetermined solution that generally fails to account for anomalies. Scientists become aware of this, yet they hold on to the existing theory. This continues until the theory weakens and other possibilities are considered. At a given point, crisis occurs which might initiate a scientific revolution. Once the revolution occurs, the new paradigm often requires rewriting texts on the subject area. Comparatively, Delbruck s use of various scientific methodologies resulted in new ideas offering new explanations concerning historical events. Delbruck traced the evolution of tactics by checking facts and taking note of anomalies where he reconstructed battles from the Persian Wars to those of Napoleon. Delbruck then connected the character and design of the state with the tactics and strategy it employed. Discovering that warfare differed from one era to the next, his studies overturned many common interpretations of historical events. With that, Delbruck ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The following line is given immediately after to ensure the reader latches onto the importance of the moral. He prayeth best who loveth best/ All things both great and small: (VII. 647 648). However, these two terms may deliver a connotation that plagiarism is not much of a serious offense. Whether the act of plagiarising is intentional or unintentional, it is considered as a fraud. In an academic setting plagiarism may even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are surely many other ways of avoiding plagiarism but there are five simple rules suggested by Ober et al. (2012). Rule 1: Do not copy It is not a good practice to simply copy what is found in other people s work, books or even your own writing. If you have to do so, do it properly by copying it with quotation marks and appropriate citation. In addition to this, it is good to have a proper time management in which you would have enough time to cite your sources properly. Rule 2: Write in your own words Paraphrasing means putting someone else s ideas into your own words but care must be taken as changing a few words and rearranging the original sentence is still considered as copying . Hence, though paraphrasing is commonly suggested as one of the ways to avoid plagiarism it is much better to avoid paraphrasing and rather use your own original voice . Rule 3: When in doubt, cite This is one of the ways to avoid plagiarism but it should not be done excessively. Otherwise you would end up with excessive citation in your piece of writing and lack of writing in your own words. This is an indication for you to consider rewriting the paper. Rule 4: Don t recycle images, figures, tables or text from one of your previously published papers without citing This is the case of self plagiarising when you republish a figure from earlier publication but fail to cite the original and obtain ... • 39. History Of The Catatumbo Lightning People say that lightning doesn t strike the same place twice. Well, it s practically untrue since there is a place on earth that seems to be like a lightning rod that lures in all the lightning in one place. In Venezuela, there is a particular spot on a lake that attracts a whopping 1.2 million lightning strikes a year. It s hard to believe but it s about 28 lightning bolts every minute. This amount of energy is enough to power more or less a hundred million light bulbs! This spectacular phenomenon is called the Catatumbo Lightning . Originating from a mass of storm clouds at a height of more than 1 kilometer above, lightning, strikes on this specific spot, typically over a bog area where Catatumbo River empties into Lake Maracaibo in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is one instance that lightning strikes ceased to occur from January to March 2010 that temporarily raised fears of the phenomenon being extinguished permanently but was later found out that it was drought that caused it. Humidity in a sense may have played a vital role in the occurrence but scientists lately say that maybe it s the region s wind patterns and unique topography that contribute to the special phenomenon. They say that when warm winds, trapped by the surrounding mountains in Lake Maracaibo, collides with cool air coming down from the Andes mountains, they are forced to condense, thus creating thunderclouds. A lot of the (lightning) hot spots are tied to features in the terrain slopes of mountain ranges, curved coastlines, combinations of those, Dr Daniel Cecil from the Global Hydrology and Climate Centre s lightning team told the BBC. Having irregularities like that in the terrain can help generate wind patterns and heating or cooling patterns that would boost the likelihood of thunderstorms. Considering the incredible amount of lightning strikes, one may wonder if those are some kind of extra special lightning of sort but according to studies, those lightning bolts is the same with every kind of lightning that flashes all around the ... • 40. GABAA Receptors Jay Lewis Benzodiazepines and Their Effect on GABAA Receptors There are a plethora of neurotransmitters in our brains associated with their specific receptors along post synaptic terminals that allow for proper function of brain activity. GABA receptors are a category, amongst many categories, of such receptors that play a major role in the ability of our brains to regulate physiological functions and cognitive stability. Specifically, GABAA receptors play an important role in rapid inhibition of synaptic neurotransmission in the human brain.1 GABAA receptors are activated by the pre synaptic neurotransmitter GABA whereby binding of GABA causes a conformational change in the channel allowing increased chloride into the cell resulting in hyperpolarization; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The purpose of the pathway is to both produce and conserve GABA.4 GABA is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system (CNS) and it has been estimated that at least one third of all CNS neurons utilize GABA as their primary neurotransmitter.5 The precursor for GABA is usually glucose, however amino acids and pyruvate can also be used. The metabolic synthesis of GABA begins with the amino transfer of (alpha) ketoglutarate, synthesized by glucose in the Krebs cycle by GABA (alpha) oxoglutarate transaminase (GABA T) into L glutamic acid. Glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) catalyzes the decarboxylation of glutamic acid to form GABA.4 GABA release into the synaptic cleft is stimulated by depolarization of presynaptic neurons, which then diffuses across into the post synaptic neurons and binds to their associated receptors. Reuptake of GABA is the responsibility of both presynaptic nerve terminals and surrounding glial cells.4 GABA taken back up by the nerve terminals is available for reuse however, GABA taken up by glial cells is metabolized to succinic semialdeyde by GABA T and cannot be re synthesized because glial cells lack GAD. For GABA to be recovered from glial cells it must be converted to glutamine, which is then transferred back to the neurons where glutamine is converted into glutamate by glutaminase. This allows for re entry into the GABA shunt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They both represent what it means to fight for the good life and for others. King and Gandhi both share the same philosophies on their approach to non violence and directly opposing injustice. However, even though their philosophies are similar they have distinct methods to fight injustice. King s philosophy regarding fighting for the good life is better than Gandhi s approach. Gandhi s extreme methods of going on hunger strikes aren t widely practiced today and could lead to starvation or death. Orwell even mentioned it in his book It is difficult to see how Gandhi s methods could be applied in a country where opponents of the regime disappear in the middle of the night and are never heard of again (Orwell, 1949). On the other hand, King s passive methods are more accepted and the four steps to nonviolent campaigns are still being used today by activists. King and Gandhi both had visions of the good life they wanted for themselves and others around them. King wanted the black community to be treated fairly and have equal rights as the whites. He knew it wouldn t be given to them and that if his people really wanted to be treated fairly they were going to have to fight vigorously for it. In contrast, Gandhi s vision of the good life included India s independence and true peace across the world. While Gandhi may have achieved India s independence his goal for world peace is going to take time. • 44. One of Ours by Willa Cather Margaret Elliot is beautiful, talented, critical, unsatisfied, tired of the world at twenty four (Great Short Works, 8). Engaged to a man she has no feelings for, life feels bleak and without purpose. She feels true love once with Eric, but just for a moment. For her whole life, Margaret had searched the faces of men for the look that lay in his eyes. She knew that look had never shone before, would never shine for her on earth again, that such love comes to one only in dreams or in impossible places like this, unattainable always. This was Love s self, and in a moment it would die (Great Short Works, 29). For Willa Cather this is how love exists. Happy relationships are plentiful, but the enchanted, all encapsulating love of dreams only exists in glances. For Eric this glance is enough. He does not regret his decision or the damnation he is sure it will cause. For him a day shall be as a thousand years, and a thousand years as a day as his love lives on. In most cases, however love is not enough. Both Margaret and Claude, the protagonist of Cather s novel One of Ours feel this shimmer of love, but in the end must search for meaning elsewhere. Set in a small Nebraska farm town, One of Ours opens several years before the start of the First World War. Claude is unsatisfied with his simple life in the fields, and possesses an idealistic, romantic outlook that propels him to search for meaning on a much different field in Europe. Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes was an important artist of that time, who created many artwork that portrayed wars. In the analysis of his masterpieces, people can find his disappointment in how people pursue freedom, their ignorance, and the brutality of the wars. Freedom was one of the main ideas in French Revolution, but in Goya s painting, he was disappointed in how the society fought for it. In his artwork, he showed the stupidity of how people pursued freedom during that period. In The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters (1797 1798), Goya used the mocking owls and bats to imply folly and ignorance, while the lynx stayed alert against the monsters of greed and stupidity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In The Disasters of War (1810 1820), he showed how brutal the French were in the invasion of Spain. In the early plates of the series, Goya depicted the dead and injured are carried away, soldiers strip corpses, which are then thrown into a common grave in the Plate 18 Bury them and keep quiet (Tomlinson 1994, p.191). This picture wholly described how the war looked in Spain during that time: how people were killed and then buried like it was a normal scenario. The ruthlessness of the French also sent out another message that beauty is not only destroyed, but grotesquely ravaged to attest the end of any faith in an ideal (p.193). In the paintings, people lost their dignity, and there are no heroes countless unidentified victims in the picture, which indicate that humanity is only ideal in the Revolution (p.202). The hand gestures in the paintings are in motion, which emphasized the instantaneity of the climax. For example, in the painting, the soldiers are holding arms and already stabbing it into the victims. The capture of the particular moment reinforce the brutality of people in that ... Essentially, Doc Holliday was friends with a William Leonard, who was later implicated in an attempted stagecoach robbery, that resulted in the death of two of three passengers. Prior to this event, Holliday had had a number of run ins with an individual by the name of Milt Joyce. A number of times Holliday was arrested and taken to court for assault. These charges were often dropped after Holliday paid court fees and the fines associated. Because of these confrontations and Holliday s relationship with Leonard, Holliday was accused of being a part of the gang (who mostly consisted of members of the Cowboy gang) who attempted to rob the stagecoach. To clear Holliday s name, the Earps (Wyatt, Virgil and Morgan) formed a posse that hunted down the other members of the gang. To find some of the men that could clear Holliday s name, Wyatt made a deal with Ike Clanton (a known Cowboy member), Wyatt would give Ike the reward money for the outlaws, if Ike would give information regarding their whereabouts[2]. Ike Clanton, on the other hand, denied such a deal occurring. He said that Wyatt approached him, but he [Ike] would have nothing to do with the deal [1]. When the outlaws were found, they (allegedly) resisted arrest and the outlaws in the party who could clear Holliday s name were killed. Ike grew restless and fearing that the Cowboys would hear about his deal with Wyatt [2]. Ike accused Wyatt of sharing their plan with Holliday. Ike confronted Wyatt and later Holliday.
