Compare And Contrast Angela s Ashes And The Street
Theme is the subject of talk, a topic, or morals that the author is trying to get across to the readers.
When reading an excerpt, the theme is not directly stated in the text, so you must dig deeper into the
context to understand the morals the author is trying to portray. In both Angela s Ashes and The Street,
we can detect a similar theme of struggling to get through life s obstacles. When reading the two
different stories, we can further pick out the theme by using character, events, and the setting.
In Angela s Ashes, the theme of struggling to get through life s obstacles is shown using character. In
paragraph 4, McCourt writes, You can look in people s windows and see how cozy it is in their
kitchens with fires glowing or ranges black and hot everything bright in the electric light cups and
saucers on the table with plates of sliced bread pounds of butter jars of jam smells of fried eggs... the
mother crisp and clean in her apron everyone washed and the Sacred Heart of Jesus looking down on
them from the wall suffering and sad but still happy with all that food and light and good Catholics at
their breakfast. This quote shows, that the protagonist has been peering into the houses of the rich and
realizes that the rich has everything they want and more. This theme shows that the main character is
jealous of the rich lifestyle because they have more struggles than the rich do. In addition, this theme
is also presented using events. In paragraph 5, In a second I have

3000 Ugli Oranges Are Available At Cardoza, And Two Big
3000 Ugli oranges are available at Cardoza, and two big research companies want those oranges. Dr.

oranges to resolve their individual problem. P.W. Roland is currently dealing with a leaking bomb
which can cause brain damage and even death to many. J.W.Jones firm has an outbreak of Rudosen

parties desperately want these Ugli oranges as soon as possible and need to come up with a quick way

Many lives are on the line; innocent babies can be killed. Agreeing on dividing the Ugli oranges so the
community can be protected is the best choice(book).
To resolve the conflict, both parties should follow certain rules that will help make the conflict
resolution process go smoothly. It is recommended that both sides used clear, concise languages. Both
sides should take the time to listen to each other s concern. The parties should not feel threatening by
the situation or forced to do anything that they do not want to do. After the discussion, both parties
should be able to leave the room content with the decision they agreed on(book).
They are many different ways to approach a conflict, Thomas kilmann develop five ways that a
conflict can be resolved. One can resolve a conflict by competing in which the individual s decision is
based on personal gain. Someone who is competing will not care about others feelings. This person
will do everything possible to win the conflict. They do not back down whatever the situation might
be all they think about is winning the fight and make everything in their favors. The second way a
person can resolve a conflict is by accommodating. Accommodating during a conflict involve using
common sense to come up with a solution that would satisfy everybody. During accommodating one
group usually, choose to lose to make the other team happy. Thirdly, a conflict can be resolved by
avoiding. The word itself describes what happened

The Reasons for Our Troubles(1862)
Douglass lists numerous causes of the war as presented by his contemporaries. What are they?
President Abraham Lincoln was the foremost topic of importance when regarding the causes for the
crisis and war that took place in the United States presented by Douglass contemporaries. They
claimed that before Lincoln s presidency there was tranquility among the states: Before Lincoln there
was a peace; after Lincoln there was rebellion (Shi, Mayer, 2013, p. 433). Ironically, the first task on
Lincoln s agenda for his presidency was focusing on maintaining peace within the states: he was
devoted to peace (Tindall, Shi, 2013, p.494). Lincoln opted to make a statement during his
inauguration promising that he would remain out of the affairs of the southern slave states and their
slave business: Lincoln repeats his pledge not to interfere with the institution of slavery in the states
where it exists (Tindall, Shi, 2013, p.495). However, Lincoln did not tolerate the secession of the
southern states saying it was unlawful and that he would continue the same policies of taxes, tariffs,
etc. that had been set in place before his presidency. Lincoln was under the impression that his actions
would lead the states towards a time of peace. However, Douglass contemporaries believed, Lincoln s
presidency was a turn towards crisis and rebellion. The main issues at

Credit Unions Benefits
Why are credit unions a non profit organization and banks are for profit? The Credit Union is always
there to help members achieve their financial goals and it is run by the members. Banks are run by
board of directors and bankers make decisions that increase their profits. Profits made by credit unions
are returned back to members in the form of reduced fees, higher savings rates and lower loan rates. It
is there to mainly serve the members interest rather than to charge the members. Not for profit, not for
charity, but for service. Credit Unions reward members with leftover profit, pay expenses and costs
first. Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen was in charge of the Credit Union to help farmers in Germany. The

The Medici bank was the most famous Italian bank and it was accepted by Giovanni Medici in 1397.
The oldest bank is the Monte Dei Paschi Di Siena; it has been running since 1472 in Italy. Money
lending started from Ancient China and India. The Bardi and Peruzzi families accepted branches in
parts of Europe. The development of banking spread from northern Italy throughout the Holy Roman
Empire, and in the 15th and 16th century to northern Europe. Both banks and credit unions have the
objective to serve financial needs of the customers. They both have Automated Teller Machines,
branches, depositors insurance, and are overseen by regulators. ATMs are located everywhere for a
purpose because they want to make things easier for people and locate them in a place where people
can easily get to. People can access an ATM if they have a credit or debit card to withdraw and insert
money. It saves a lot of time instead of going inside the bank or credit union and stand in long

Mitsubishi Pajero
Good morning/afternoon. Buying a new product can be stressful at the best of times, but when the
product is a new car worth $70,000, this stress can become overwhelming. When our client, Mark,
came to us to help him decide upon a new vehicle, he had already narrowed down the selection to
either a Mitsubishi Pajero or a Toyota Prado, having had experience with each. He had also taken the
liberty of creating a list of important observations about himself, in order for us to help him make a
quality, informed decision. The criteria are as follows: Mark has a daily commute of 10km on average
per day, so the car must have good fuel economy and comfort. Aside from his work commute, he will
drive his family members to various activities, so the safety is a priority. Mark has a budget of $70,000
with which to buy the car, so the chosen models must be under $70,000. Aside from city life, Mark
runs a cattle station with rugged terrain, so the car must also be up to scratch off road. Both the Toyota
Prado and Mitsubishi Pajero fit these criteria, and in order to create the fairest evaluation, the Pajero
Exceed, valued at $66,500 and the Toyota Prado GXL (valued at $69,000), thus eliminating price as a
contending factor. In terms of related economic facts, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Contemporary British Novel
JOHN SELF:EPITOME OF AN ERA
1. INTRODUCTION
Money:A suicide note is the dark novel by Martin Amis that depicts the degredation of society, its
morals and values ,in the eighties. It is set in 1981 and includes notable events such as the Royal
Wedding of Charles and Diana and the riots in England. Amis gives us a repulsive and materialistic
view of New York and London in the late 20th century, corrupted by pornography, self promotion,
junk food, alcohol, television and most importantly Money.
The protagonist of this novel is John Self, a self admitted loser who smokes and drinks too much, with

thinks of the States as the place that got him hooked on some of the vices that he is addicted to junk

a place where he can get anything his heart desires. We get the feeling that Self enjoys being in the
States more than in England. In comparison, Britain seems smaller, not as advanced, but it is starting
to be like America, since it has traded its places of high culture for something

Hugjilt Murder Case Essay
In China an eighteen year old boy, Huugjilt, was wrongfully convicted of raping and strangling a
woman to death in a restroom at the textile factory where he worked in Hohhot on April 9, 1996.
Police said that Huugjilt confessed to this crime in less than forty eight hours. On May 23, only forty
three days after the death occurred, Huugjilt was convicted of the murder of the woman and sentenced
to death. Then on June 8, only eighteen days after Huugjilt s conviction and death sentence, he was
executed by firing squad. After Huugjilt s execution, there were reports that circulated that officers
working the murder case were rewarded for a quick arrest. The whole process from the crime to the

Feminism Is An Effective Ideology Within Politics
Over the last few decades and even today in 2017, feminism has been a widely debated topic. The
misunderstanding in regards to what feminism is and the reason behind it play a large role in this
issue. Before the feminist movement, women were pretty much considered second class citizens.
Feminism is more than just angry, male hating women protesting. Feminism is about change, equality
and opportunity for women of all races and age. There are many reasons as to why feminism has been
an effective ideology within politics. Because of feminism and the women s work movement, more
women than ever before have been given the opportunity to make a difference in government.

2) Feminism brought this issue to light. As a result, more and more countries are using various
methods to slowly increase the percentage of women. One of the more popular methods is to use a
quota. A quota is a mandatory or voluntary number or percentage of women needed to be placed or
hired. (www.lop.parl.gc.ca) Since the adoption of constitutional quotas, the country of Rwanda has
been first in female representation since 2003. Women make up about 48.8% to 63.8% of the
representation in their governments lower house. (www.lop.parl.gc.ca) Because of the large amount of
representation in office, women have more of their issues brought forward and dealt with. For
example, in Latin America, the use of quotas has led to improvements on divorce, domestic violence
legislation, and child care. (Smith, 2005)
The involvement with national and international non governmental organizations (NGOs) along with
other women s groups have been quite beneficial. With these groups and organizations, women not
only have international and transnational relationships with others, but they can also use these groups
to promote women s rights, organize resistances, and to handle issues in regards to a global women s
agenda. (Hawkesworth, 2012 pg. 249) For example, sexual trafficking, gender justice, and women s
economic welfare. These organizations can bring awareness to a specific cause, as a result change can
be made. An example of this would be the adoption of the

Unintentional Falls-Related Injuries
The unsafe environment is the significant factors that contributed to unintentional falls related injuries
in the Hilltop community. Also, the photo and evidence have shown that people in the Hilltop
community commonly live in unsafe environments, and they are exposed to high risks that increase
their likelihood of being injured. Children and older adults are the vulnerable groups as they have less
capacity to overcome these risks. After exploring the Hilltop community, the potential causes of
unintentional fall related injury are both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. The Intrinsic factors include
individual s vulnerabilities that increase the risk of falls such as chronic functional impairments
(visual loss or physical function limitation) and acute illnesses (asthma, myocardial infarction). For
the extrinsic or environmental risk factors, which include unsafe walking surfaces, obstacles in a
sidewalk, unstable stair, unsecured handrails and poor lighting. As an example from a conversation

The Case Against High School Sports Funding in America
After reading The Case Against High School Sports by Amanda Ripley started to make me think.
There were many strong points about how the priorities of the sports are beginning to be more
important to students than their education. Another great point was that the financing and budgeting is
unfairly distributed throughout school districts and is spent more on athletics and clubs and not
enough on classes. And I Believe that schools should put certain restrictions on the spending and
promoting or in school sports and clubs because of the major drop in national and world comparisons.

students now rank 22nd instead of 19th. And most shocking, they fell from 10th to 20th in reading
(Parker,2). If you compare American schools to other renowned top schools world wide such as in
Europe and Asia you would see a remarkable difference with the amount of time and money spent on
sports. Ripley stated that one football player costs about $1,300 a player. Math, by contrast, cost just
$618 a student. And the school district could save $150,000 in one year with cutting school sports and
extracurriculars (Ripley,3). Our Johnston School District also has a large price as our state s Athletic
Director Gary Ross: When you get to the issue of budgets there is really two parts to them. The
general budget which is what the school district per say pays towards coaches salaries, transportation,
and event workers. Coaches salaries are normally $120,000, transportation would be $50,000, and
event workers can be around $5,000 $10,000. Then the other part of the budget is the sports income,
which is money from booster clubs, participation from other schools, and admissions, and it comes to
roughly $120,000. Which goes out to uniforms, the athletic trainer, equipment and our participation at
other school events. (Ross) It should be that if a school is struggling financially to provide for the
school district , it should have an immediate plan to cancel athletics to save or help the school make a
comeback because

Use Of The Atomic Bomb
Decision to use the Atomic Bomb

The article that I suport was the article supporting the use of the Atomic bomb. This article was

Surgical Site Antiseptics
Although many steps are necessary to prevent Surgical Site Infections, one important step is the use of
perioperative antiseptics, which will be considered in detail below. According to the 2016 Surgical
Site Infections guidelines from the World Health Organization, SSI is the most common healthcare
associated infection among surgical patients with 77% of patient deaths reported to be related to
infection .
What are antiseptics?
An antiseptic is a substance that is applied to the exterior of the body to kill or stop the growth and
development of microorganisms. These substances are effective against either one or a combination of
bacteria fungi and viruses.

The antiseptic must be completely dried by evaporation (for a minimum of three minutes) and towels
must be placed under the patient to capture any excess fluid during the preparation and removed prior
to the start of the procedure. In situations that are life threatening and waiting a minimum of three
minutes for the chlorhexidine to dry is impossible, an alcohol free solution such as povidine iodine
must be used. Leaving the skin antiseptic on after the surgery can reduce the risk of a surgical site
infection by preventing what is called rebound bacterial growth .
What is decolonization and how it is achieved? Decolonization is the process of breaking up or getting
rid of bacteria that has been formed. It is an evidence based intervention that can be used prevent
hospital acquired infections. For example, when Staphylococcus aureus colonizes, mupirocin nasal

Hcg Injections For Weight Loss
Title HCG injections for weight loss: Fab or fad?
Description Obesity is one of the consistent side effects associated with the urban lifestyle today. A
number of weight loss programs including HCG injections are coming up purported to cure obesity.
What is HCG and why should you know of it?
HCG injections contain the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin typically secreted by the pregnant
mother s placenta following successful conception. It is reason behind the pink bar of a pregnancy test
strip attesting successful pregnancy. HCG is being used to deal with problems regarding conceiving
babies from quite some time by medical practitioners.
When did it all start?
The revelation that HCG can burn fat started first in the 1950 s when Dr. Albert T. Simeons, an
endocrinologist from Britain started using HCG injections to treat people with obesity. One of the
probable and not yet established role of human chorionic gonadotrophin is that it burns belly fat to
provide ATP or energy for the fetus, Dr. Simeons concluded from this belief that HCG must also
facilitate a rapid burning of fat from all portions of the body at all times. But no substantial cases of
actual weight loss through only HCG injections have come up till date. In a more recent time, Kevin
Trudeau in his 2007 book claimed that HCG injections were the magic secret to quick weight loss.
The funny part is Kevin is not even remotely associated with medicine or health; he is just another
shady businessman.

conquest was the Battle of Granicus River which occurred on May 334 BCE. It was fought near the
city of Troy and the first of three major battles that was fought between Alexander and the Persian
Empire. Alexander s army faced the Persians on the third day of May from Abydos. Parmenion, the
second in command of Alexander, suggested crossing the river upstream and attacking at dawn the
next day, but Alexander attacked immediately. This tactic caught the Persians off guard. The
Macedonian had special way of attacking. The phalanx tactic to attack consisted of a line that was
arrayed with the heavy combat soldiers in the middle, and cavalry on either side. The Persians
expected that the main assault would come from Alexander s position and moved units from their
center to that flank. The total casualties for the Greeks were between 300 and 400. Likewise, the
Persians had 1,000 cavalries and 3,000 infantry killed. After being victorious in the battle, Alexander
buried the Persian commanders and the Greek mercenaries who were killed fighting on the side of the
enemy. Alexander commanded his men to take all the surviving prisoners and sent them away to

My Love Story
When I was younger I would make conversation with any breathing personage. As I grew older just
the thought of having to interact with someone I did not know was mortifying. Therefore, signing up
for a full week of a Young Life camp was one of the hardest decisions I have made. Trying to back out
the night before, I wandered on to the bus at six in the morning. A forty five minute drive and forced
to scarf up my cell phone. Arriving at the camp we were greeted by a thousand smiling faces. Settling
into our cabin, I was a little more relaxed until I heard the bell. Curiously, we walked out onto the
porch to see everyone running. Our cabin quickly followed into the chaos. I Pushed and scraped my
way through everyone, and made my way to the front row of the club room. I thought to myself how
idiotic it was, I was already a Christian. What else is there to learn about God? Little did I know. That
night was the first time I had been introduced to God on a deeper level. I saw him as intimidating and
loving instead of a fictional character in my head. I felt comfort and at peace for once. July twenty
fourth, two thousand and sixteen is the day that changed my life forever. I heard the greatest love story
of all time. Most people know what it feels like to be loved by a family member, friend, or a spouse.
However, nobody can grip the thought of someone loving them as much as Jesus. He could have
stopped the Roman soldiers at any given point. However, without His mercy and grace we

Ishmael Harrington Extract
In the beginning of the extract, the theme that is revealed is hunger, which is present throughout the
extract especially when Harrington is watched eating. For example, this is clear to the audience as
Harrington chews hungrily, he eats beef which is being described by his observer. This quote proves
Harrington is desperately hungry: before thrusting a large chunk into his mouth, a greasy trickle of
pink liquid ran down to his chin as he chewed hungrily . I think that the phrase a greasy trickle of pink
liquid is describing the meat which is disgusting, gross because of the colour pink and it could also be
described as slimy. Equally, the author uses the description Large chunk to describe the beef. He ate
that yet ignored the pink liquid, therefore he was quite hungry, especially because of the size which is
used to describe the meat large chunk . He chewed hungrily is also another way to prove how hungry
he was. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This suggests several things, either he didn t like the beef, or he was angry about being spied on. He

of the facial expression shows disproval of what he was given. I think that He cut hungrily into the
remains of his beef because he was desperate to eat the beef and he was angry as the quote says, cut

represent the way he feels. He was angry whilst he was cutting the beef this was shown in this quote
as well He frowned He disproved, could be another way to show his anger not only because he might
have been hungry but also because he might know that someone is spying on him. This could lead to

Advantage And Disadvantages Of Sunscreens
i) Sunscreen products:
What are sunscreens?
Sunscreens are products that combine multiple ingredients that help prevent the sun s ultraviolet (UV)
radiation from reaching the skin. Understanding UV radiation:
UV radiation is an electromagnetic radiation that reaches the earth from the sun. It is classified into
UVA, UVB and UVC according to their wavelength. UVC is usually absorbed by the ozone layer not
penetrating to earth while UVA and UVB penetrate the ozone layer and play an important role in skin
photo aging, sun burns and skin cancer. Most of the UVB IS filtered by the atmosphere. UVB can only
cause damage to the epidermal layers as it cannot perpetrate beyond the superficial skin layers. UVB
is responsible chiefly for skins reddening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So the sunburn protection increases by increasing the SPF value. There is a misconception stating that
SPF is related to time of solar exposure not to the amount which is not true. Although solar energy
amount and solar exposure time are related, other factors impact the amount as an example the
intensity. (A 9:00a.m one hour exposure is equal to 1:00 p.m. 15 minutes exposure). In general, more
frequent reapplication is associated with decreased absorption of solar radiation and more protection.
So SPF is a relative measure of the amount of sunburn protection provided by sunscreens. It isn t a
reflection of time.
Sunscreen history and timeline:
It all started with the ancient civilizations used plant products to protect themselves from the sun
damage. Ancient Romans used olive oil while ancient Egyptians used extracts of jasmine and rice
plants that are still used in some products today. Zinc oxide creams have always been popular for
thousands of years but it was an opaque paste that left an unacceptable appearance in the skin which
led to the decrease in its use. It was popularly used as a sunburn preventative.

How Did The Plague Affect Athenian Culture
A sickness which started in the head then developed to affect every part of the body, is an under rated,
mild description of the Plague of Athens. Thucydides explains that the plague not only harshly
affected men s physical bodies, but also their actions. People began to become fearful of becoming
infected, which caused them to avoid visiting friends and family members who were afflicted with the
disease. Furthermore, the plague also negatively affected the character of the Athenian people. The
intense fear of having the disease even motivated men to become indifferent to every rule of religion
or of law : individuals began to act self indulgently because they believed that they would not be alive
long enough to be brought to trial or punished.

Cannabis In Canada
Abstract
Cannabis use, though still somewhat stigmatized in the media, is among one of the fastest growing
trends in Canada among youths and adults alike. The evidence I have gathered through statistical
analysis and secondary research shows that cannabis has become the recreational drug of choice
among Canadians. This is due to a host of factors. One of these factors is a record breaking positive
public perception of cannabis among Canadians. The way the public perceives a drug is very
important, and for something as taboo as cannabis to be accepted by the public and the media takes
time and effort. This struggle to increase the positive perception of cannabis among Canadians has
paid off greatly, displayed in national surveys where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

study on the public perception of marijuana among Norwegians who part take. A study done on 100
cannabis users saw that their perception of the drug was either neutral or positive. Unlike tobacco
users or alcoholics, cannabis users don t see much of a problem with using weed (another slang term
for cannabis). They don t seem to understand that smoking this product can have similar effects on
their lungs as cigarettes (though not as destructive). The idea that teens do drugs to rebel against
society is actually un true, the exact opposite is true. When cannabis is talked about so positively in
the media and among politicians, it actually makes teenagers think the drug is safe and subconsciously
encourages them to do it. Alcohol and cigarettes aren t looked at so positively in society, and thus the
use of these drugs among youths is falling dramatically (yes, even alcohol). They see these drugs as
life threatening, manmade chemicals ingested by older folk, while cannabis is seen as this great, all
natural remedy to many ailments in life (depression, anxiety, appetite loss, insomnia, etc). Though
much of marijuana s positive attributes are supported by science, there are some misconceptions that

Analysis Of The Article On Being An Atheist
H. J McCloskey in his article, On Being an Atheist, is trying to show the readers are more reasonable
and comfortable belief than that of Christianity. In the article he also puts up an argument concerning
two theistic point of which is the cosmological and teleological argument. McCloskey also talks about
the problems resulting from all the evil in the world. He goes as far to point out this evil in a world the
God had made and blames God for it. Due to that fact and other issues, he believes that it is irrational
to live by faith. According to his work, proof is not really necessary part to play a vital role in the
belief of God. However, when it comes to providing proof concerning an atheist point of view, he has

In his work he states that believing in an uncaused first cause of the universe is a problem because
nothing in the universe brings us to that conclusion. The rationalization from cause effect understands
a relation between things that are in existence, and will pass out of existence. If God was to be taken
part of the frame of causation already in motion, then it would belong to that which would have
caused by something else. That cause holds to that which is outside the framework of causation.
Concerning the cosmological argument McCloskey writes that all we entitle to infer is the existence of
a cause commensurate with the effect to be explained, the universe, and this does not entitle us to
postulate on all powerful, all perfect uncaused cause. (McCloskey, 1968) This would be true for there
is no reason why to necessary infer a God person. The inference is of the nature that suggest a cause of
such magnitude that is practically God like. McCloskey words don t disprove the rational of a God.
Entitlement not to call this cause God is neither entitlement to deny calling the cause or considering it
to be God . Looking at the teleological argument, McCloskey has tied the argument from design
together. He is also at the same time rejecting both of them. He does this because he thinks that
mankind is not able nor have the ability to have a full understanding about Creation. He s description
of Creation is described by the theory of

Literary Analysis Of The Necklace
In The Necklace the authors choice of words, or diction, is very well articulated. I enjoyed this story
because the narrator, Guy de Maupassant sets us so much suspense with the tone of the story. Madame
Louisel essentailly loses a valuable item, or so she thought, and goes to major extents and even life
deminishing problems to just make it seem like she was not responsible enough to take care of a
necklace for a night. The story intially takes place at a ball that Madame Louisel has been invited to by
her husband. In the beginning of the story Madame is very indecisive about making an appearance at
the ball. She complained she did not have a dress, any jewels, and she was scared she would look like
a pauper (174). She did not want to look poor around a bunch of rich woman, so she had asked a
friend for a piece of jewelry to wear for the night. Excited, she picks out the diamond necklace that
seemed to stand out to her. She adored it. The narrator describes it as lovliest of all, elegant, smiling,
and radiating with joy (175). Having a blast at the party, dancing, drinking, and not thinking about
anything else, Madame left the ball around four in the morning. Calling a cab, Madame and her
husband were on their way home, delighted with the fun night that they had. Finally arriving at home,
they begin to get into comfortable clothes when suddenly Madame notices that the diamond necklace
she had borrowed from a friend for the night had gone missing. Searching everyhwere

Cross Cultural Engagement Is A Process Of Learning
Introduction
Cross Cultural engagement is a process of learning to interact and communicate effectively with
individuals in another culture. Engagement implies a dynamic, two way process of communicating
with individuals in the host culture, rather than simply learning about them from a distance. It also
suggests active learning while crossing into another culture. Why is cross cultural engagement
important in a mission? In the Bible we see the twelve disciplines go on mission to spread the Gospel.
Jesus sent them on mission in groups with instructions. We, in today s era also need set of instructions
or need to know how to go on missions in other than our culture. It is a difficult and humungous task
to carry out. One need to first know what their mission is and how to pursue their calling. My most
favorite learning from this class is the work of Holy Spirit in a mission. Sunquist writes and explains
about it very beautifully. He says, Christian mission is not a project or a function of the local church. It
is very important, in the first place, not to make false assumptions about a mission. Firstly, we need to
clear our heads, realize and confess in our hearts that we are working for God s mission, not for a
church or any organization. Secondly, we should discern and ask for help from the Holy Spirit to help
and guide us through the mission that Holy Spirit has chosen for us. Cross cultural engagement is led
by the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with

The major event that signifies how these people lived their lives begins with the stock market crash in
1929. These were pretty dark times in America. At that time, not only were woman s rights and
minority rights at the forefront of life, but also white men had seen their wealth in jeopardy. People
tend to compare the Great Recession of the current day to the Great Depression caused by the stock
market crash but it really does not compare. The quality of life in those times was barely scraping the
surface of what was to come. People literally starved, were homeless, and lost everything that they had
worked for. To match the atrocities of the financial of the American people, this cohort also seen the
events that lead to World War II. Japan s invasions of countries began in this era and Adolf Hitler
came to power in Germany. Though these times cost many American lives the effects on the economy
were actually positive. This is possibly when America first began to realize that it had the power to
pretty much do as it pleased. So on, America s world police mentality in general was amplified
because of this period in time. Many have analyzed this period in time as the consequences of abusing
the swing era. People in the swing era were careless with money and had complete confidence in
America as a whole and their lackadaisical ways left the Great Depression in its wake. (Kyvig, 2002)

Every new place that Genie discovered was a new world for her, this raised her curiosity and allowed
her to want to engage and interact with her new environment. As we know, as infants we are born with
almost all the neurons that we will have. In Genie s case, being strapped to a potter chair for most of
her life caused her to lose many of those synaptic connections that she was not able to use. This
process is referred to as pruning, which simply stated means use it or lose it, when theses connections
are not being used they disappear and deteriorate. The ability of the infant s brain to change in form
and function is referred to as plasticity, this is important because although Genie was not taught as a
child her brain was still able to adapt and engage to her new environment. Through this we encounter
how Genie s brain was able to change throughout her new life and how the brain has this amazing
ability that allows reorganization and the ability to form new connections. For Genie, these
connections were able to form because she now had the chance to explore her environment, which is
something she was unable to do her entire childhood. In the beginning of the film when Genie was
discovered they examined her brain waves and found that Genie was expressed abnormal wave
patterns. This is referred to as sleep spindles, which is an indication of retardation; this raised the
question of whether or not Genie was impaired at birth or due to isolation. However, after working
with her they found that she was in deed capable of forming new synaptic connections that allowed
her to learn new words and supported the concept of brain

The Era Of The Industrial Revolution

started to desire a simpler, and a more stable time. That s when the revival of ancient architecture
started to form. Each type of revival style was associated with a specific architect, for instance,
A.W.N. Pugin was England s leading Gothic revivalist. The revivals of the ancient architecture
influenced the architectural designs of many architects of the time. Two of the most noted architects in
the nineteenth century who were influenced by the architectural revivals were: Richard Morris Hunt,

Predicting Performance Of Post Graduate Education From...
Predicting performance in post graduate education from admissions information comparisons of health
professions with pharmacy
Richard E Wilcox, PhD* and Kenneth A Lawson, PhD ABSTRACT
Objectives. The goal of the present review was to assess the state of performance prediction in health
care programs generally, versus performance in pharmacy schools, using didactic and non didactic
admissions measures. This is important because clinical success represents a combination of skills that
are not fully predicted by either type of measure alone.
Methods. PubMed searches were conducted focusing on work published from 2000 onwards, since it
is during this period that non didactic admissions measures have come to be incorporated into the
applicant evaluation process. Relevant papers that were available as free full text were used. When
these papers were not available by direct import into EndNote, we went directly to the journal to try to
retrieve the paper.
Results. Published literature clearly showed that prediction of performance in the didactic portions of
health care programs is straightforward when based on pre health care GPA and achievement test
scores. The best predictions are achieved when both measures are combined. While significant
statistical prediction is achieved in virtually every study, the percent of total performance variance
accounted for is also consistent and uniformly small in the order of 25%. Similarly, there is now an
emerging consensus that

ways depending the level of the athletics. Amateur and professional players require different methods
of prevention of injuries including. For example, good quality soccer equipment s, right techniques,
and good environment are the main techniques that amateur soccer players require to avoid soccer
injuries. Differently, professional or elite players require much more intense and intricate avoidance as
soccer is major part of their daily routine. Ways that elite soccer players can avoid injuries is having

Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp Essay
Torture, being defined by the 1984 Convention Against Torture is the cruel, inhumane, or degrading
infliction of severe pain or suffering, physical or mental, on a prisoner to obtain information or a
confession, or to mete out a punishment for a suspected crime (Beehner), is condemned and
considered illegal by the United States of America and carries severe punishment for those that carry

Importance And Importance Of Maintenance Management
Maintenance Management is an orderly and systematic approach to planning, organizing, monitoring
and evaluating maintenance activities and their costs. A good maintenance management system
coupled with knowledgeable and capable maintenance staff can prevent breakdown problems and
environmental damage; yield longer asset life with fewer breakdowns; and result in lower operating
costs and a higher quality of heavy machinery.
Importance
Maintenance management is crucial to companies because proper maintenance makes workers aware
of the resources with which they have to work. When workers are aware of the cost and nature of their
maintenance resources, they are less likely to be wasteful with those resources. They also are more
aware of how their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

compared to manual systems.
The word Operation is usually linked with Maintenance . To put these terms in context, Operation is

Why Is Andrew Carnegie A Hero
Andrew Carnegie was a hero amongst a few people but it can be debatable towards others. Andrew
Carnegie was born in November 1835, in the attic of a weaver s cottage in Dunfermline, Scotland.
While he was growing up, his family was poor, so his family decided to move to the United States, he
started working at the age of twelve. As he got older he got promoted into different positions and
because of this he was able to build up his own business and bought out his competition. Could
Andrew Carnegie be considered a hero? A hero is a person that does something astonishing such as

of his life: business, money and social.

Shinn s point is to see the increase and decrease of production costs and selling prices. This evidence
helps explain why Carnegie was not a hero because Shinn is only talking about the production price
and the selling cost of steel rails. For example, in The Saturday Globe it illustrates how Carnegie had
Double Role (The Saturday Globe, 1892). In making this comment, the Saturday Globe is trying to
say that Carnegie was playing two roles because he could give away money and still made notices
about wages being reduced. This demonstrates how he wasn t a hero because he would reduce the
wages of his employees to give that away. Money was one of the many reasons why Carnegie wasn t a
hero because of how he took away wages from his employees to give it away. Although money was
important to him, he still felt that he needed to donate it to the public.
The third area in which Carnegie wasn t a hero was social. Garland states, Everywhere where grimy
men with sallow and lean faces (Garland, 1894). Garland is trying to prove the difference between two

Dbq Middle Passage
Middle Passage Reflection Essay Triangular trade between Europe, Africa, and the Americas spurred
economic growth, increased intercontinental diversity, and was a prime example of a globalizing
world. It also spread and exacerbated the brutal and inhumane practice of slavery to the Americas,
where it took root and became a cornerstone of the American way of life for years. The middle
passage between West Africa and the West Indies was a voyage of misery, pain, and illness for the
slaves being shipped, and while their misery does not compare with that of the enslaved, the journey
was not pleasant for the white crew either. Conditions on slave ships were miserable, and disease
spread through the close quarters like wildfire. Document B starts to explain the massive impact that
disease had on ship dwellers. The document begins by simply stating the death count on an average
voyage from the first day when they buried 14 to the last when the death count totaled 320. The
document then goes on to identify and explain the causes of the high mortality ... Show more content

Document C explores how slaves were packed into the ships like animals and gives examples of other
ways African slaves were treated barbarically. Slaves were positioned to maximize potential profit,
being positioned so close as to admit of no other posture than lying on their sides . This grossly
unsuitable positioning created problems among the slaves themselves with slaves falling to continual
quarrels when they would stumble over each other trying to get to food. Due to these atrocious
conditions, many slaves decided that death would be better than continued misery and attempted to
starve themselves. When the crew saw that a slave was skipping meals and trying to starve themselves
coals of fire were put on a shovel and placed so near their lips that they scorched and burned

Literary Analysis of David and Goliath
A Character Analysis of David and Goliath When studying any piece of literature there are many
different methods and techniques that can be used. The Bible, in specific, is often referred to as a
source of moral code, hope, and answers to social, ethical, and political questions. However, this
incredibly influential book can also be read as if it were any other novel. The events, settings, and
characters can all be evaluated for what they are, forgetting the notion that they are from a religious
text. This approach is called narrative criticism. When regarding to the Bible in this way, we do not
need to know any historical information or focus on seeking a deeper theological meaning. Instead,
the stories are evaluated in terms of how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this point, it is hard to side with either the Philistines or the Israelites since neither show desirable
qualities. Goliath, though strong and powerful, shows nothing beyond that. He shows no faith in God
and is entirely dependant on his fancy armor and swords. Goliath has no other source of strength other
than his physical stature and possessions. David, on the other hand, is depicted as a character that is
lacking brute strength and weaponry. We are told through the voice of Goliath that he is only a youth,
ruddy and handsome in appearance (1 Samuel 17: 42). It is evident that David is meant to appear as an
average kid with no exceedingly superior or spectacular qualities. This simple portrayal of David is
significant because it sets in motion the development of realistic empathy from the implied reader
towards David. It is important for the implied reader to feel empathetic towards David because even
though David kills Goliath in the end, we are meant to view him as a hero, not a murder. Building a
connection between the implied reader and David makes this possible. Though David represents a
seemingly common boy at the time, he has several qualities that make him stand out. However, these
character traits are never simply told to us. Instead, the implied author uses David s actions, decisions,
and beliefs to

Chinua Acheb is a Great African Author
Chinua Achebe is one of the great authors hailing from the African continent. He has published a
number of novels and is widely praised for creating a new genre of African literature. His debut, and
most famous novel, Things Fall Apart, has never been out of print, sold more than twelve million
copies, and been translated into over fifty languages ( Chinua Achebe The Economist). The characters
in the novel are purely fictional but the traditions and struggles faced by the characters are those of
Achebe, Nigeria, and former African colonies as a whole. Things Fall Apart, as well as other works of
Chinua Achebe, give a unique view on the Nigerian culture and show its people in a more positive
light than other, previously written novels. For this Chinua Achebe was indeed a great and important
author. Albert Chinualumogu Achebe was born on the 16th of November, 1930 in Ogidi, Nigeria (
Chinua Achebe Biography Bio.com). He would later change his name to the more traditional Chinua
Achebe in college. He first learned the language that was native to his people, Igbo, but at the age of
eight he was taught English in school. He grew a healthy respect for both languages and cultures as he
grew older, reading books in English and listening to stories from his mother and sister in Igbo. When
Chinua was fourteen he received an offer to attend the prestigious Government College, a secondary
school in Umuahia (Innes, Lyn). He did exceptionally well there and only took four years to

Miller Saying To You Summary
Analysis Paper 4 What is Miller Saying to You? Ed Potter The one point Miller (2012) made that
caught my attention was the substantial role he emphasized motivation plays in an individual s
decision to stop using drugs and alcohol. Personally, I always agreed with this thought, however, it
was in a different context. I was always under the impression that once an individual had suffered
enough as a result of their addiction, change would occur. However, Miller (2012) provided sound
examples of the motivational process and how and why it is key in an individual s decision to abstain
from substances.
It has been my experience that when working with individuals suffering from substance abuse,
motivation is often one of the biggest hurdles

The Velvet Revolution Essay example
The citizens of Czechoslovakia had not known freedom in decades. During much of World War II the
nation was occupied by the Nazis and later by the Red Army as it drove the Nazis back to Berlin.
When they Red Army moved into an area, communist regimes were set up to govern the area, and
establish satellite nations. There were numerous uprisings throughout the decade that were violently
suppressed by the communist governments with help from the USSR. After Alexander Dubcek tried to
grant reforms to the people of Czechoslovakia in 1968, the USSR and most members of the Warsaw
Pact sent their military forces to intervene and suppress any unrest or reforms. Things grew somewhat
violent and brutal, as any demonstrators were either or beaten, ... Show more content on

The government called in military and riot police to forcibly break up the demonstration. Within that
same week, Vaclav Havel organized formed the Civic Forum , which gave a lot more organization to
the protests and demonstrations. The group demanded free and open democratic elections and an end
to government censorship. Protestors would gather together throughout Prague and Bratislava and
then eventually throughout the entire country. Within a month the Communist Party of
Czechoslovakia had fallen and Havel had been named President in the first free election in
Czechoslovakia since 1948. Even more amazing was that there was hardly any violence during the
uprising. For years it seemed almost impossible for the oppressive Czechoslovakian government to be
toppled, and yet in roughly a month Havel and the student demonstrators were able to do it. What
events lead to this peaceful overthrow of the Communist party and role did Havel play in them? What
role did popular culture play in the revolution? The events that eventually led to the successful
revolution in 1989 got their start in the Prague Spring in 1968. There was a brief period of political
reform in Czechoslovakia in 1968, when Alexander Dubcek was elected to be the First Secretary of
Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. Many of Dubcek s reforms were trying to give more rights to the
citizens as well as relaxing government censorship.

Bach Fugue Analysis
For that reason, Bach used a fugue in solo organ pieces and in instrumental works and choral cantatas.
This Fugue is the most famous of fugues by any composer.
The difficult part to explain is how Bach created the Toccata s forceful organ effect. When Bach was
in Arnstadt when he was younger, the organ ordinarily lacked a 16 foot register on the keyboard;
consequently, it sounds an octave lower than the normal 8 foot register. Accordingly, in order to create
the effect, Bach used octave doubling; consequently, he continued the resounding effect of the opening
bars; conversely, there is no octave doubling in any of Bach s later organ works; moreover, the fugue
sounds furious with its uninterrupted series of fast notes. Also, Bach felt ... Show more content on

This section segues into the third and final section of the Toccata, which consists almost entirely of a
passage doubled at the sixth and comprising reiterations of the same three note figure, similar to
doubled passages in the first section; after a brief pedal flourish, the piece ends with a D minor chord.
In Bach s brilliance, he made the subject of the four voice fugue up entirely of sixteenth notes with an
implied pedal point set against a brief melodic subject that first falls and then rises. Nevertheless,
Baroque music frequently encountered Violinistic figures and that of Bach, both as fugue subjects and
as material in non imitative pieces. The answer is in the subdominant key, rather than the dominant.
Although it s a four part fugue, there are only three voices, and some of the interludes are in two or
even one voice (notated as two); although Bach employed only one simple triadic harmony throughout
the fugue, there is an unexpected C minor subject entry and, furthermore, a solo pedal statement of the
subject (a unique feature for a Baroque fugue). After the final subject entry, the composition resolves
to a sustained B flat major chord; a multi sectional coda follows, which Bach marked as Recitativo.
Although it s only 17 bars long, it progresses through five tempo changes; in addition, Bach had the
last bars played Molto

  • 2. Compare And Contrast Angela s Ashes And The Street Theme is the subject of talk, a topic, or morals that the author is trying to get across to the readers. When reading an excerpt, the theme is not directly stated in the text, so you must dig deeper into the context to understand the morals the author is trying to portray. In both Angela s Ashes and The Street, we can detect a similar theme of struggling to get through life s obstacles. When reading the two different stories, we can further pick out the theme by using character, events, and the setting. In Angela s Ashes, the theme of struggling to get through life s obstacles is shown using character. In paragraph 4, McCourt writes, You can look in people s windows and see how cozy it is in their kitchens with fires glowing or ranges black and hot everything bright in the electric light cups and saucers on the table with plates of sliced bread pounds of butter jars of jam smells of fried eggs... the mother crisp and clean in her apron everyone washed and the Sacred Heart of Jesus looking down on them from the wall suffering and sad but still happy with all that food and light and good Catholics at their breakfast. This quote shows, that the protagonist has been peering into the houses of the rich and realizes that the rich has everything they want and more. This theme shows that the main character is jealous of the rich lifestyle because they have more struggles than the rich do. In addition, this theme is also presented using events. Morgan Overcast Dr. Albert Vogt American History I November 15, 2014 The Reasons for Our Troubles(1862) Douglass lists numerous causes of the war as presented by his contemporaries. What are they? President Abraham Lincoln was the foremost topic of importance when regarding the causes for the crisis and war that took place in the United States presented by Douglass contemporaries. They claimed that before Lincoln s presidency there was tranquility among the states: Before Lincoln there was a peace; after Lincoln there was rebellion (Shi, Mayer, 2013, p. 433). Ironically, the first task on Lincoln s agenda for his presidency was focusing on maintaining peace within the states: he was devoted to peace (Tindall, Shi, 2013, p.494). Lincoln opted to make a statement during his inauguration promising that he would remain out of the affairs of the southern slave states and their slave business: Lincoln repeats his pledge not to interfere with the institution of slavery in the states where it exists (Tindall, Shi, 2013, p.495). However, Lincoln did not tolerate the secession of the southern states saying it was unlawful and that he would continue the same policies of taxes, tariffs, etc. that had been set in place before his presidency. Lincoln was under the impression that his actions would lead the states towards a time of peace. When our client, Mark, came to us to help him decide upon a new vehicle, he had already narrowed down the selection to either a Mitsubishi Pajero or a Toyota Prado, having had experience with each. He had also taken the liberty of creating a list of important observations about himself, in order for us to help him make a quality, informed decision. The criteria are as follows: Mark has a daily commute of 10km on average per day, so the car must have good fuel economy and comfort. Aside from his work commute, he will drive his family members to various activities, so the safety is a priority. Mark has a budget of $70,000 with which to buy the car, so the chosen models must be under $70,000. Aside from city life, Mark runs a cattle station with rugged terrain, so the car must also be up to scratch off road. Then the other part of the budget is the sports income, which is money from booster clubs, participation from other schools, and admissions, and it comes to roughly $120,000. The revelation that HCG can burn fat started first in the 1950 s when Dr. Albert T. Simeons, an endocrinologist from Britain started using HCG injections to treat people with obesity. One of the probable and not yet established role of human chorionic gonadotrophin is that it burns belly fat to provide ATP or energy for the fetus, Dr. Simeons concluded from this belief that HCG must also facilitate a rapid burning of fat from all portions of the body at all times. But no substantial cases of actual weight loss through only HCG injections have come up till date. In a more recent time, Kevin Trudeau in his 2007 book claimed that HCG injections were the magic secret to quick weight loss. The funny part is Kevin is not even remotely associated with medicine or health; he is just another shady businessman. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was fought near the city of Troy and the first of three major battles that was fought between Alexander and the Persian Empire. Alexander s army faced the Persians on the third day of May from Abydos. Parmenion, the second in command of Alexander, suggested crossing the river upstream and attacking at dawn the next day, but Alexander attacked immediately. This tactic caught the Persians off guard. The Macedonian had special way of attacking. The phalanx tactic to attack consisted of a line that was arrayed with the heavy combat soldiers in the middle, and cavalry on either side. The Persians expected that the main assault would come from Alexander s position and moved units from their center to that flank. The total casualties for the Greeks were between 300 and 400. Likewise, the Persians had 1,000 cavalries and 3,000 infantry killed. Therefore, signing up for a full week of a Young Life camp was one of the hardest decisions I have made. Trying to back out the night before, I wandered on to the bus at six in the morning. A forty five minute drive and forced to scarf up my cell phone. Arriving at the camp we were greeted by a thousand smiling faces. Settling into our cabin, I was a little more relaxed until I heard the bell. Curiously, we walked out onto the porch to see everyone running. Our cabin quickly followed into the chaos. I Pushed and scraped my way through everyone, and made my way to the front row of the club room. I thought to myself how idiotic it was, I was already a Christian. What else is there to learn about God? Little did I know. That night was the first time I had been introduced to God on a deeper level. I saw him as intimidating and loving instead of a fictional character in my head. I felt comfort and at peace for once. July twenty fourth, two thousand and sixteen is the day that changed my life forever. I heard the greatest love story of all time. For example, this is clear to the audience as Harrington chews hungrily, he eats beef which is being described by his observer. This quote proves Harrington is desperately hungry: before thrusting a large chunk into his mouth, a greasy trickle of pink liquid ran down to his chin as he chewed hungrily . I think that the phrase a greasy trickle of pink liquid is describing the meat which is disgusting, gross because of the colour pink and it could also be described as slimy. Equally, the author uses the description Large chunk to describe the beef. He ate that yet ignored the pink liquid, therefore he was quite hungry, especially because of the size which is used to describe the meat large chunk . Sunscreens are products that combine multiple ingredients that help prevent the sun s ultraviolet (UV) radiation from reaching the skin. UVC is usually absorbed by the ozone layer not penetrating to earth while UVA and UVB penetrate the ozone layer and play an important role in skin photo aging, sun burns and skin cancer. The evidence I have gathered through statistical analysis and secondary research shows that cannabis has become the recreational drug of choice among Canadians. This is due to a host of factors. One of these factors is a record breaking positive public perception of cannabis among Canadians. In his work he states that believing in an uncaused first cause of the universe is a problem because nothing in the universe brings us to that conclusion. The rationalization from cause effect understands a relation between things that are in existence, and will pass out of existence. If God was to be taken part of the frame of causation already in motion, then it would belong to that which would have caused by something else. That cause holds to that which is outside the framework of causation. Concerning the cosmological argument McCloskey writes that all we entitle to infer is the existence of a cause commensurate with the effect to be explained, the universe, and this does not entitle us to postulate on all powerful, all perfect uncaused cause. (McCloskey, 1968) This would be true for there is no reason why to necessary infer a God person. The inference is of the nature that suggest a cause of such magnitude that is practically God like. I enjoyed this story because the narrator, Guy de Maupassant sets us so much suspense with the tone of the story. Madame Louisel essentailly loses a valuable item, or so she thought, and goes to major extents and even life deminishing problems to just make it seem like she was not responsible enough to take care of a necklace for a night. The story intially takes place at a ball that Madame Louisel has been invited to by her husband. In the beginning of the story Madame is very indecisive about making an appearance at the ball. She complained she did not have a dress, any jewels, and she was scared she would look like a pauper (174). She did not want to look poor around a bunch of rich woman, so she had asked a friend for a piece of jewelry to wear for the night. Excited, she picks out the diamond necklace that seemed to stand out to her. She adored it. The narrator describes it as lovliest of all, elegant, smiling, and radiating with joy (175). Having a blast at the party, dancing, drinking, and not thinking about anything else, Madame left the ball around four in the morning. Calling a cab, Madame and her husband were on their way home, delighted with the fun night that they had. • 29. Cross Cultural Engagement Is A Process Of Learning Introduction Cross Cultural engagement is a process of learning to interact and communicate effectively with individuals in another culture. Engagement implies a dynamic, two way process of communicating with individuals in the host culture, rather than simply learning about them from a distance. It also suggests active learning while crossing into another culture. Why is cross cultural engagement important in a mission? In the Bible we see the twelve disciplines go on mission to spread the Gospel. Jesus sent them on mission in groups with instructions. We, in today s era also need set of instructions or need to know how to go on missions in other than our culture. It is a difficult and humungous task to carry out. One need to first know what their mission is and how to pursue their calling. My most favorite learning from this class is the work of Holy Spirit in a mission. Sunquist writes and explains about it very beautifully. He says, Christian mission is not a project or a function of the local church. It is very important, in the first place, not to make false assumptions about a mission. Firstly, we need to clear our heads, realize and confess in our hearts that we are working for God s mission, not for a church or any organization. Secondly, we should discern and ask for help from the Holy Spirit to help and guide us through the mission that Holy Spirit has chosen for us. Cross cultural engagement is led by the Holy Spirit. This process is referred to as pruning, which simply stated means use it or lose it, when theses connections are not being used they disappear and deteriorate. The ability of the infant s brain to change in form and function is referred to as plasticity, this is important because although Genie was not taught as a child her brain was still able to adapt and engage to her new environment. Predicting performance in post graduate education from admissions information comparisons of health professions with pharmacy Richard E Wilcox, PhD* and Kenneth A Lawson, PhD ABSTRACT Objectives. The goal of the present review was to assess the state of performance prediction in health care programs generally, versus performance in pharmacy schools, using didactic and non didactic admissions measures. This is important because clinical success represents a combination of skills that are not fully predicted by either type of measure alone. Methods. PubMed searches were conducted focusing on work published from 2000 onwards, since it is during this period that non didactic admissions measures have come to be incorporated into the applicant evaluation process. Relevant papers that were available as free full text were used. When these papers were not available by direct import into EndNote, we went directly to the journal to try to retrieve the paper. Results. Published literature clearly showed that prediction of performance in the didactic portions of health care programs is straightforward when based on pre health care GPA and achievement test scores. The best predictions are achieved when both measures are combined. While significant statistical prediction is achieved in virtually every study, the percent of total performance variance accounted for is also consistent and uniformly small in the order of 25%. Money was one of the many reasons why Carnegie wasn t a hero because of how he took away wages from his employees to give it away. Although money was important to him, he still felt that he needed to donate it to the public. The third area in which Carnegie wasn t a hero was social. Garland states, Everywhere where grimy men with sallow and lean faces (Garland, 1894). Garland is trying to prove the difference between two people s payments. • 40. Dbq Middle Passage Middle Passage Reflection Essay Triangular trade between Europe, Africa, and the Americas spurred economic growth, increased intercontinental diversity, and was a prime example of a globalizing world. It also spread and exacerbated the brutal and inhumane practice of slavery to the Americas, where it took root and became a cornerstone of the American way of life for years. The middle passage between West Africa and the West Indies was a voyage of misery, pain, and illness for the slaves being shipped, and while their misery does not compare with that of the enslaved, the journey was not pleasant for the white crew either. Conditions on slave ships were miserable, and disease spread through the close quarters like wildfire. Document B starts to explain the massive impact that disease had on ship dwellers. The document begins by simply stating the death count on an average voyage from the first day when they buried 14 to the last when the death count totaled 320. The document then goes on to identify and explain the causes of the high mortality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Document C explores how slaves were packed into the ships like animals and gives examples of other ways African slaves were treated barbarically. Slaves were positioned to maximize potential profit, being positioned so close as to admit of no other posture than lying on their sides . This grossly unsuitable positioning created problems among the slaves themselves with slaves falling to continual quarrels when they would stumble over each other trying to get to food. Due to these atrocious conditions, many slaves decided that death would be better than continued misery and attempted to starve themselves. When the crew saw that a slave was skipping meals and trying to starve themselves coals of fire were put on a shovel and placed so near their lips that they scorched and burned ... • 41. Literary Analysis of David and Goliath A Character Analysis of David and Goliath When studying any piece of literature there are many different methods and techniques that can be used. The Bible, in specific, is often referred to as a source of moral code, hope, and answers to social, ethical, and political questions. However, this incredibly influential book can also be read as if it were any other novel. The events, settings, and characters can all be evaluated for what they are, forgetting the notion that they are from a religious text. This approach is called narrative criticism. When regarding to the Bible in this way, we do not need to know any historical information or focus on seeking a deeper theological meaning. Instead, the stories are evaluated in terms of how ... Goliath, though strong and powerful, shows nothing beyond that. He shows no faith in God and is entirely dependant on his fancy armor and swords. Goliath has no other source of strength other than his physical stature and possessions. David, on the other hand, is depicted as a character that is lacking brute strength and weaponry. We are told through the voice of Goliath that he is only a youth, ruddy and handsome in appearance (1 Samuel 17: 42). It is evident that David is meant to appear as an average kid with no exceedingly superior or spectacular qualities. This simple portrayal of David is significant because it sets in motion the development of realistic empathy from the implied reader towards David. It is important for the implied reader to feel empathetic towards David because even though David kills Goliath in the end, we are meant to view him as a hero, not a murder. Building a connection between the implied reader and David makes this possible. Though David represents a seemingly common boy at the time, he has several qualities that make him stand out. However, these character traits are never simply told to us. Instead, the implied author uses David s actions, decisions, and beliefs to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Chinua Acheb is a Great African Author Chinua Achebe is one of the great authors hailing from the African continent. • 44. Miller Saying To You Summary Analysis Paper 4 What is Miller Saying to You? Ed Potter The one point Miller (2012) made that caught my attention was the substantial role he emphasized motivation plays in an individual s decision to stop using drugs and alcohol. Personally, I always agreed with this thought, however, it was in a different context. I was always under the impression that once an individual had suffered enough as a result of their addiction, change would occur. However, Miller (2012) provided sound examples of the motivational process and how and why it is key in an individual s decision to abstain from substances. It has been my experience that when working with individuals suffering from substance abuse, motivation is often one of the biggest hurdles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There were numerous uprisings throughout the decade that were violently suppressed by the communist governments with help from the USSR. The group demanded free and open democratic elections and an end to government censorship. Protestors would gather together throughout Prague and Bratislava and then eventually throughout the entire country. Within a month the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia had fallen and Havel had been named President in the first free election in Czechoslovakia since 1948. Even more amazing was that there was hardly any violence during the uprising. For years it seemed almost impossible for the oppressive Czechoslovakian government to be toppled, and yet in roughly a month Havel and the student demonstrators were able to do it. What events lead to this peaceful overthrow of the Communist party and role did Havel play in them? What role did popular culture play in the revolution? The events that eventually led to the successful revolution in 1989 got their start in the Prague Spring in 1968. There was a brief period of political reform in Czechoslovakia in 1968, when Alexander Dubcek was elected to be the First Secretary of Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. • 46. Bach Fugue Analysis For that reason, Bach used a fugue in solo organ pieces and in instrumental works and choral cantatas. This Fugue is the most famous of fugues by any composer. The difficult part to explain is how Bach created the Toccata s forceful organ effect. When Bach was in Arnstadt when he was younger, the organ ordinarily lacked a 16 foot register on the keyboard; consequently, it sounds an octave lower than the normal 8 foot register. Accordingly, in order to create the effect, Bach used octave doubling; consequently, he continued the resounding effect of the opening bars; conversely, there is no octave doubling in any of Bach s later organ works; moreover, the fugue sounds furious with its uninterrupted series of fast notes. Also, Bach felt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This section segues into the third and final section of the Toccata, which consists almost entirely of a passage doubled at the sixth and comprising reiterations of the same three note figure, similar to doubled passages in the first section; after a brief pedal flourish, the piece ends with a D minor chord. In Bach s brilliance, he made the subject of the four voice fugue up entirely of sixteenth notes with an implied pedal point set against a brief melodic subject that first falls and then rises. Nevertheless, Baroque music frequently encountered Violinistic figures and that of Bach, both as fugue subjects and as material in non imitative pieces. The answer is in the subdominant key, rather than the dominant. Although it s a four part fugue, there are only three voices, and some of the interludes are in two or even one voice (notated as two); although Bach employed only one simple triadic harmony throughout the fugue, there is an unexpected C minor subject entry and, furthermore, a solo pedal statement of the subject (a unique feature for a Baroque fugue). After the final subject entry, the composition resolves to a sustained B flat major chord; a multi sectional coda follows, which Bach marked as Recitativo. Although it s only 17 bars long, it progresses through five tempo changes; in addition, Bach had the last bars played Molto ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
