The United States has laws that affect the hiring practices of all country based companies. Regulations
of federal agencies such as the U.S. Department of Labor protects employees in the United States
from discrimination to wages. Other Countries may not have the same protection for its citizens as an
example. Although U.S. based organizations would not be bound to the wage laws of other countries,
they are usually morally bound to ethical practices by which they establish core principles that are
filtered down to their employees. Jeopardizing this standard of ethics would have a broad based effect
on the organizations overall effectiveness considering a platform of which to maintain a standard that
all employees can act on behalf of. Compromising ethics and social value could present major public
relation issues. A perfect example of this would be the Hershey Corporation. The Hershey Corporation
of the United States is North America s largest chocolate producer, however at one time most of its
cocoa was purchased from West African Nations. These Nation s had a very poor record of labor
fairness and was reported to employ children in long and unsafe working conditions. Although this
was against Hershey s published core values, the company sought refuge in the fact that none of these
children were employed by the Hershey Corporation and therefore claimed plausible deniability. A
public relations campaign ensued which prompted the corporation

Essay about The Laramie Project
The Laramie Project, written by Moisés Kaufman, is a compilation of interviews by The Tectonic
Theater Project, news publications, and journal entries. After the brutal murder of Mathew Sheppard
in 1998. Kaufman along with his theater troupe made six visits to Laramie, Wyoming, where the
murder took place, to interview people about what happened and how they felt about the crime in their
community. They interviewed about two hundred people, of which about sixty were included in the
play. The play showcases a small town in America in a historical time of tragedy. The production of

A lot of the townspeople from Laramie were shocked that the criminals were from their own
community. Many people were in denial that something like this could happen in their town, while
others wanted to make the townspeople accountable. My secret hope was that they were from
somewhere else, that then of course you can create that distance: We don t grow children like that
here. Well, it s pretty clear that we do grow children like that here (Jacobus 1640). it happened
here...we need to own this crime. I feel. Everyone needs to own it...We ARE like this (Jacobus 1645).
The people of Laramie had once believed that they were a live and let live kind of place and now they
were beginning to doubt this. live and let live. That is such crap...basically what it boils down to: if I
don t tell you I m a fag, you won t beat the crap out of me. I mean, what s so great about that?
(Jacobus 1645). People were left in a state of confusion. Even the criminals don t seem to understand
the reasons for their crime any better than anyone else (Evans). Matthew Sheppard s attack influenced
the attitudes of many people in Laramie and forced them to realize the truth of the attitudes of others
in the community. Along with the murderers, Russell Henderson and Aaron McKinney, there were

Chin-Kee In The Monkey King
Which leads us to the character of Chin Kee. At first he seems like a way for the author to call out the
racist sitcom culture. With Chin Kee s extremely yellow complexion, his heavy Chinese accent and his
high intelligence, he fits all the racist stereotypes people have of Asians. However, we later learn that
Chin Kee was a disguise for the Monkey King and when we realize that Danny was formerly known
as Jin Wang, Chin Kee s character gains another layer. Chin Kee s character does not just call out the
racist sitcom culture, he is also there as a manifestation of Jin Wang s internalized racism. First of all,
by writing this story as an American sitcom with a laugh track, every action of Chin Kee is underlined
and mocked. Every mispronunciation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chin Kee represents everything Danny hates about himself and his Chinese identity. He s therefore a
manifestation of his internalized racism. Every time Chin Kee visits, he is reminded of the Chinese
identity that he rejected. Danny tries to run away, change schools, but that won t change the fact that
he is Chinese. His struggles with his identity will always follow him around, until he deals with them.
When the Monkey King shows his true form, he asks Danny to do the same thing, to reveal himself as
Jin Wang. The Monkey King tells Danny that he s not here to punish him, but to serve as your
conscience as a signpost to your soul (221). The Monkey King is here to try and help Jin find his true
identity, instead of running away from it. When Jin Wang asks him what he is supposed to do next, the
Monkey King answers him: You know, Jin, I would have saved myself from five hundred years
imprisonment beneath a mountain of rock had I only realized how good it is to be a monkey (223).
The book does not give a clear answer what exactly his identity will be now. However, he has started
to try and make things right with Wei Chen Sun, so he has made a first step into overcoming his
internalized racism and accepting his Chinese identity .He seems at peace with himself, which is all a

Gesture To Understand The Relationship Between Language...
Why people use gesture when they speak? People use gestures when they talk, but is this behavior
learned from watching others move their hands when talking. When speaker talk, they gesture. The
goal of this article is to understand the contribution that these gestures make to how we communicate
and think. Gesture can play a role in communication and thought at many timespans. I explore, in turn,
gesture s contribution to how language is produced and understood in the moment; its contribution to
how we learn language and other cognitive skills. I find that the gestures speakers produce when they
talk are integral to communication and can be harnessed in a number of ways. Gesture provides
building blocks that can be used to construct a language. By watching how children and adults who do

A signal for yes in one culture may mean no in another; a gesture for good bye in one culture can be

Body language includes all the communication through the non verbal channel. This can include how
we greet others, how we sit or stand, our facial expressions, our clothes, hair styles, tone of voice, eye
movements, how we listen, how we breathe, how close we stand to others, and how we touch others.
This article will use the terms body language and nonverbal communication, gestures. I have my own
opinion that everyone talks with their hands at least sometimes. Some people s hand talking or
gesturing matches their message well. Other people have a tendency to make overly large gestures that
can be distracting. And still others don t use their hands much at all. No matter which camp you fall
into it s important to pay attention to your hand gestures while you are communicating or making a
presentation. Many gestures are universal across cultures and geographies. Here are some

The Duality Of Light And Darkness
On the Duality of Light and Darkness in A Tale of Two Cities The French revolution was filled with
bloodshed as the people of France rebelled against the aristocracy. In every heroic struggle there s
always a darkside and Charles Dicken s book. A Tale of Two Cities, exemplifies this dynamic. The
novel attempts to shed light on the point of lives of the middle class of Paris and London s as they re
trapped in the fighting fighting between the aristocracy and peasantry during the French Revolution.
The motifs of light and darkness present in the novel relate to three of the characters in the novel
Lucie Manette, Madame Defarge and Sydney Carton. Lucie represents light, Madame Defarge
represents darkness, and Carton is the manifestation of light and darkness. In A Tale Of Two Cities,
Lucie Manette represents light and tranquility because she is able to make her father happy. Dr.
Manette s dark past glooms upon him as the darkness from his mind prevails because of his past in the
Bastille prison which renders him scarred mentally from the depths of his soul, however Lucie has the
ability to make him forget about his dark past momentarily:
Only his daughter had the power of charming this black brooding from his mind. She was the golden
thread that united him to a Past beyond his misery, and to a Present beyond his misery: and the sound
of her voice, the light of her face, the touch of her hand, had a strong beneficial influence with him
almost always. (83)

Hesitation, Repression, and Indecisiveness in the Love...
Impotent, pathetic, inadequate, timid. Everyone knows a J. Alfred Prufrock, and everyone has a bit of
him in himself or herself. Just like Prufrock we readers have been witness to the pretentious triviality
of others, the women who come and go/ Talking of Michelangelo (lines 13 14), and the lack of
confidence which prevents the realization of desires. Eliot s careful choice of epigraph from Dante s
Inferno reverberates throughout this poem as the logic behind Prufrock sharing his feelings with his
listener. Just as Guido da Montefeltro is certain his listener shares a similar fate as himself, so to does
Prufrock believe that his listener is like himself, and will never turn back and descend the stair (line
39). Prufrock s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Death also signifies Prufrock s lack of social contact and sexual stimulation. The word etherized not
only means to numb, but is also suggestive of the word ethereal. Prufrock s repressed desire can be
seen in his frustration with the reality of social/emotional interaction and also with the ethereal,
inexpressible inner desire of his heart, not just to ask an overwhelming question , but further, to say
exactly what he means as in line 104. Unable to force the moment to its crisis leaves Prufrock
emotionally impotent. Unlike Marvell and his coy mistress Prufrock does not have all the time in the
world to malinger, stretched on the floor. Trivializing his message of desire, as in the rhyme of lines
79 80 or referring to himself as John the Baptist only further hinders the expression of his desire. And
we can only imagine in Eliot s use of religious images in which Prufrock wept and fasted, wept and
prayed that Prufrock is fervently hoping for the self confidence to express his desires. Yet after the
social banter/conventions of the cups, the marmalade, the tea , the porcelain and some talk of you and
me Prufrock is still unable to seize the moment, to turn desire into action. Presuming that Prufrock is
largely reflecting on these issues himself rather than to another listener one notices that he is unable to
even mention his desires to himself, so deeply

Magnesium and MgO
Conclusions For the first trial, after .398 grams of magnesium were mixed with .251 grams of oxygen,
the result yielded .649 grams of magnesium oxide. In the second trial, after .404 grams of magnesium
were mixed with .132 grams of oxygen, the result yielded .536 grams of magnesium oxide. In the third
trial, after .406 grams of magnesium were mixed with .702 grams of oxygen, the result yielded 1.108
grams of magnesium oxide. All three of the trials yielded different results in the data table; but, there
were only two different empirical formulas, percent compositions and mole ratios for each of the
trials. For the first trial, the empirical formula was MgO and the percent composition for magnesium
was 60.31% and the percent composition for oxygen was 39.69%. For the second trial, the empirical
formula was Mg2O and the percent composition for magnesium was 75.24% and the percent
composition for oxygen was 25%. For the last trial, the empirical formula was MgO but that was after
the simplification of the original empirical formula, Mg2O2, and the percent composition for
magnesium was 60.31% and the percent composition for oxygen was 39.69%. In conclusion, when
heat and oxygen were applied to the magnesium, the common empirical formula that was derived
from magnesium and oxide was MgO.

business is used car sales with available in house financing on most vehicles on the lot. The window

Coaching and Mentoring
Foundation Design: Coaching and Mentoring
Introduction
Organisations are increasingly evolving quicker due to globalisation and advances in industries and
technology. These events have made market environments progressively more competitive and have
changed the economic climate in which organisations operate. Unfortunately some organisations have
had to implement restructures and reductions in workforce to ensure survival. Foundation Design are
one of these organisations whose company size has gone from 1,513 employees to 780 employees.
During the restructure of the organisation the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) identified that changes
were required to its leadership profile and coaching and mentoring programmes. These changes ...

Foundation Design must also ensure that they set clear targets that will ensure the achievement of
organisational objectives. By setting targets and objectives it will also allow measurement of the
effectiveness to take place, which again will protect investments made. By providing coaches to its
executives and senior leaders organisations are showing them the benefits of coaching in the hope that
this will transfer down into the organisation. This has been seen in Kellogg s Europe, who developed
their coaching practices to senior level from middle and junior management. Kellogg s experienced a
renewed investment in coaching as senior managers were enthused by the coaching they had received
and the benefits of having a coach themselves. This new enthusiasm towards coaching has spread
throughout the organisation and it could be suggested will have a positive impact on performance and
organisational effectiveness (Clutterbuck and Megginson, 2005). Often there is reluctance from
managers who has no time or inclination for coaching others having an epiphany as a result of being
on the receiving end of effective coaching (Clutterbuck and Megginson, 2005, pp. 50). It could be
suggested that Foundation Design may experience some negativity towards the refocus on coaching
due to the bad experience they have previously experienced with external coaches, it could be
suggested that Foundation Design are displaying

Wind Turbines
A wind turbine is a machine for converting the kinetic energy in wind into mechanical energy . (1) The
inventor of the first electric wind turbine was Clevelander Charles Brush, who ran his entire Euclid
Avenue mansion off of one for 20 years, which later made the cover of Scientific American in 1888.
(2) Although the use of alternate energy didn t rise a great deal afterwards, this event did open the eyes
for many environmentalists. Wind power is only one of our several energy source[s] whose fuel is free
and will never be exhausted (3) with the pros and cons not completely weighed out as to whether it
will be truly beneficial or not. The two main issues regarding wind turbines are the environmental
effects that they have and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The integration process would be slow until there was more emphasis on its use in society. It will be
true with wind turbines as well; more transmission lines will be needed to make them more appealing
for the general public and businesses.
Another problem with building wind turbines is that you are placed on a waiting list in order to be able
to build one and waiting lists now fall somewhere in the vicinity of a year and a half to two years .
(10) The wait may not be too long considering the benefits that they can provide, but then building
one becomes an even more difficult issue because there is the necessity of one of only six cranes in the
country that are capable of hoisting the turbine s pieces into place . (11) The construction also takes
months and even years, if you are planning a wind farm. After all this work, some people would
question whether or not it was worth it. The British Wind Energy Association states that it is cheaper
to save electricity than to generate it, by whatever method , (12) but since people don t take actions to
reduce their electricity use, another method has to be put into place. On average, MN residents use 7
blocks of electricity/month. This premium of 1¢/kWh compares to the price of under 10¢/kWh for non
wind power. Each year, every block of wind power purchased will have the same environmental
benefit of planting ½ acre of trees or not driving a car 2400

In communities across the nation, homeless adolescents under the age of eighteen are surviving on the
streets alone and afraid. The availability of homeless shelters, for this demographic, are few and far

women, pregnant women, women in crisis, homeless families and the general population

adolescents the staff at several of the shelters provided information on the youth served. One example
of a shelter, in the Fayetteville area, that offers services to homeless adolescents under the age of

The Politics of Caesar Augustus Essays
The Politics of Caesar Augustus
In 31BC Augustus won the battle of Actium against his former colleague in the triumvirate, but now
bitter rival, Antony and the queen of Egypt, Cleopatra, after having been in the triumvirate since
43BC.
This immediately faced him with a grating predicament; he now sought to fit his own position, as sole
remaining member of the triumvirate, with the old republican system. He had several problems, one of
which was that all through the civil war with Antony he had portrayed Antony to be a tyrant and a
ruthless man who wanted to rule Rome for himself, as a dictator. This was potentially what he had
now become, and so he had several possibilities; to retire, which could lead to another civil war, and

On the other hand he didn t want to look like he had a military dictatorship because this would have
angered traditional republicans. He solves this problem by placing friends of his in command of forces
and limited their tenure to two years, so restrictions the threats that these frontier garrisons pose to
Rome.
We can see here that he is charming the hearts of the people by buying, out of his own pocket and
from the spoils of war, land for the soldiers that have fought for him in the civil war, also representing
the lack of requiring of an army, and so marketing the peace, and also isolating himself from the way
in which Julius Caesar gained his power (marching an army upon Rome). This is cutting down of
legions from 60 to 28 is also an obvious sign of peace for Rome.
We can learn a lot about the first emperor of Rome from Suetonius The Twelve Caesars. In book 18
we can learn that Augustus wanted to convey the right impression when he started, so had to be seen
doing the right thing directly after the battle of Actium. It says He reduced Egypt into the form of a
province; and to render it more fertile, and more capable of supplying Rome with grain, he employed
his army to scour the canals. The Roman attitude towards Egypt at this time would be fairly hostile
having just fought a war with them, and so Augustus made the right decision to create a Roman
province that

Roofing Research
Calculating the quantity of materials needed for a roofing job can be complicated, especially if the
roof is complex. It can also be dangerous; some roofs are so complex that the only way to get an
accurate estimate is to climb onto the roof and measure each plane separately. In addition to
determining the quantity of shingles, you must also determine how much underlayment, drip edge,
flashing and other products will be required. For all of these reasons, it is best to have a professional
roofing contractor determine the materials needed for the job. However, if you are just trying to get a
rough estimate, the following information may help.
Definition of Terms
Before continuing, it might be helpful to define certain terms used.

You will need at least 14.756 squares of roofing. However, you should add about 10 percent for starter
strips, valleys, waste and hip and ridge.
Estimating Materials Based on Actual Measurements
Measuring each roof plane requires you to actually go onto your roof. If your roof has a number of
planes and numerous hips, ridges and valleys, this is the most accurate way to calculate the materials
needed. Take a metal tape measure and a pen and paper. Measure each plane s length and width.
Record your measurements. Once you are safely on the ground, use your measurements to determine
the square footage.
For rectangular areas, multiply the length by the width. For example, if a plane measures 30 feet by
100 feet, this would be 3,000 square

Fate In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Fate, for better or worse, interrupts everyone s daily life, whether he/she chooses to acknowledge it or
not. Thinking about fate conjures up different feelings for different people; some people believe
strongly in it, some people think of fate as ridiculous, and some do not care one way or the other.
However, in many instances, such as in William Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, far
too many coincidences occur to be strictly coincidental. Fate creates a powerful effect throughout the
entire play, starting in the prologue, continuing as Romeo and Juliet meet and fall in love, and
tragically ending in the lovers deaths.
In the prologue, Shakespeare makes it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fate causes Romeo to be at the right place at the right time. If he does not walk near the Capulet s
house or if the servant is able to read, Romeo does not attend the party, thus he does not meet Juliet.
After Romeo attends the party, fate strikes again as he stumbles into the Capulet s orchard while trying
to escape his friends. Juliet, after meeting Romeo mere hours before, emerges onto her balcony and,
unaware that Romeo can hear her, proclaims her love for Romeo:
Oh Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?
Deny thy father and refuse thy name;
Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love
And I ll no longer be a Capulet. (II. ii. ll. 33 36)
After Romeo hears this, he realizes how Juliet truly feels about him, thus responding and proclaiming
his love as well. Normally, Romeo does not hear Juliet s proclamation for two reasons: he does not
stumble right into the Capulet s orchard, right under Juliet s balcony, and Juliet does not proclaim her
love aloud from the balcony. However, fate s plan causes Romeo to be in the right place at the right

Parenting As A Blended Family
Parenting in A Blended Family The family dynamics in Max Apple s Stepdaughters and Amy Tan s A
Pair of Tickets displays some of the issues that parents, stepparents and teenagers may or may not
experience. A mother s relationship with her children has a very unique connection, especially when it
comes our daughters. Being a mother or stepmother is a problematical and rewarding experience:
nevertheless, a mother s love is unconditional. How do you except someone for his or her choices on
being different? Is it easier for a step parent to see things more clearly that the biological parent?
Every family has its issues. When it s a blended family with mothers, fathers, stepchildren and other
family member, those issues can become more complex to understand. There are so many aspects that
make the core of a family. For example, from different lifestyles, religion, to positive and negative
reinforcement from our parents to raising respectable teenagers. There are differences in attitudes from
teenagers with biological parents and stepparents. With biological parents the relationship may have
some problems, but nothing can compare to what a stepparent has to endure and try to overcome these
obstacles if it possible. In Amy Tan s A Joy Luck Club, Jing mei feels the pressure of having to fill her
mother s shoes from other family members when her mother dies. Jing mei is forced into old customs
and close minded habits which causes her to lose interest and break away from her

The Polish s New Prosperity
Civilizations are constructed and inhabited by people. No matter where they come from, the color of
their skin or the language they speak they have the right to coexist. Immigrants from all around the
world have come to one great nation to live the dream. America was founded by immigrants which
today are now naturalized citizens by birth and that have several generations of families. The
American population will always continue to grow not with the naturalized births but with the arrival
of immigrants. Immigrant communities in the first half of the twentieth century were marked by
increasing prosperity as well as by cultural change. Despite the hardships of industrial life, workers of
all ethnic groups were able to achieve a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The new culture of the Polish was a combination of the new (America) and of the old (back in Poland)
that became from the industrial and urban communities. Immigrants all alike had poor living
conditions, working conditions and received little pay for the demanding jobs that they performed.
The factory owners/manager s bottom line was how much money will they make and how little to pay
the workers. Not only did the immigrants get paid a small wage, they worked in horrible conditions
that would eventually take a toll on their health and finally their lives. They would also work 12 14
hour days with typically one day off between. Studies have shown that various governmental,
regional, and demographic factors are also associated with voting turnout. I employ these variables (1)
to guard against spurious correlations between the size of immigrant populations and turnout, and (2)
as indicators of structural potentialities in urban political systems. (Gordon, 1970) The laws that
regulate the registration of the immigrants are not easier in the large populations of the cities. This was
due to the difficulty of how spread out the communities was. However, there were some states that did
pass literacy tests to determine the literacy level of the communities and immigrants. This changed the
turnout of the level of the immigrants due to the increasing size of the

The Entangled Political Economy Of Copyright
The Entangled Political Economy of Copyright
Colin Harris1 ABSTRACT: This paper uses the entangled political economy framework developed by
Wagner (2014) to analyze the effects that copyright legislation has on content producers and pirate
communities. I identify Digital Rights Management (DRM) technologies as part of the superfluous
discovery process that results when politically enforced copyright legislation works to subsidize the
cost of creating property rights in creative goods. I also analyze the effects that criminal sanctions
against copyright infringement have on how pirate communities choose to self organize. I conclude
with the claim that the entangled framework provides for better analysis than the tradition additive
political economy framework because copyright does not work to control the outcome of the system
and correct for the market failure associated with creative goods, rather it influences specific nodes in
the entangled system in particular ways. KEYWORDS: Copyright, Digital Piracy, Entangled Political

1. Introduction The history of copyright is one of entanglement. Prior to the first official copyright
statute a printing guild known as the Stationers Company maintained monopoly power over printing
and regulating books. Their monopoly power, granted by the Licensing of the Press Act 1662, was

Social Media Is Pointless And Detrimental
Nowadays, many debates insinuate how social media is pointless and detrimental. Base on my
research, I hold a different opinion social media is not only just snapping photos and watching funny
videos, but it also increases the generation of informational content and citizen participation in
political discussions. In early 2011, thousands of Syrian, especially youth from labor unions, indented
to risk their lives to protest against the authoritarian government. By August 2015, more than 250,000
citizens had been killed in the conflict. Furthermore, there are more than 11 million citizens who had
been forced to be loyal to President Bashar al Assad. Otherwise, they would of been compelled to
leave their homes. Referring to Saxon, D. s case study, Syrian civil war stimulated citizen journalists
willingness to get evolved in politics (Saxon, 2013). In four and a half years of armed conflict, hot
blooded citizens who were behind the revolutions employed social media as a temporary press,
contributing with their documentaries of the revolutions from the inside of the country. In the case of
Syrian civil war, the progress in technology and the presence of social media provided opportunities to
the citizens; empowering them to speak up about political issues in online platforms, such as
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube (Wall Zahed, 2014). By examining how and to what
degree citizen journalism has reshaped the communication model through social media, it is found that

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Youth Participation In...
The sport of tennis is often thought of as a country club sport limited only to the wealthy and elite.
Due to its financial requirements, people who are less fortunate are often denied opportunities to play.
Substantial expenses that accumulate from lessons, equipment, and membership fees deter potential
players from participating. Inner city youth are underrepresented due to lack of attainable resources
and programs. Aside from financial limitations, many junior athletes favor the characteristics of team
sports such as football, soccer, and basketball over the independence and isolation of an individual
sport like tennis. Not to mention, team sports are often far less costly. Due to these drawbacks and
perceptions, prospective junior tennis athletes are often more inclined to take the route of a different
sport. I believe that youth participation in tennis is deteriorating. As an avid tennis player and advocate
for the sport, I identify this as a major problem. Discovering practical methods that introduce and
attract younger players to tennis is crucial in expanding participation. Broadening accessibility to
tennis, demonstrating its positive values, and targeting specific ethnic and social groups are worthy
solutions in reversing the negative trend. Inner city kids are some who have the most difficulty
becoming involved in tennis. A large majority of these kids don t come from an economic background
capable of providing expenses required for participation in the sport. Talented underprivileged kids
may never have the opportunity to go to a country club and take lessons. More often than not, urban
areas lack the facilities and money to provide tennis programs for their kids. This economic deficit
becomes a major challenge for impoverished kids who want to learn tennis. As a result, inner city
youth neglect even the thought of playing tennis, and become underrepresented as a part of the junior
tennis community. By finding a way to give the inner city kids of poorer, urban areas the opportunities
to take part in tennis, we can expect to see participation of youth rise. One practical method to
encourage the involvement of inner city kids is to implement tennis programs in public schools. By

Griswold V. Court Case Analysis
1. Many were pleased that the social moral wrong doing was rectified and that fairness had
conclusively prevailed when the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed. Its purpose was to overcome
stereotyped thinking (Lecture, Week 6). On the other hand, individuals were enraged and
disappointed. Barry Goldwater opposed this Act by stating that one cannot legislate morality because
The justices cannot, of course, invoke their own personal morality, nor the ideals and virtues of
morality generally (Sandel, 249). He aimed for a neutral state that respects individual choice (Sandel,
219). Laws are created based on one s own moral beliefs, science, and logic.

The privacy rights of two consenting adults was established through Griswold v. Connecticut, but it
was for heterosexual and not homosexual married couples. In 1986 homosexual sodomy laws were
outlawed as the result of Bowers v. Hardwick. In 2003, Lawrence v. Texas outlawed these sodomy
laws because it deprives them of their liberty in sexual conduct (Article, Lawrence v. Texas, Week 7).
Even though these laws were overturned homosexuals were still discriminated in employment, public
services, and banned from teaching, and the military (Sandel, 253).
3. Jeremy Bentham was the founder of utilitarianism as well as an English philosopher. His theory
expressed that humans are rational beings with a free will to commit crime. Yet, prior to committing a
crime they weigh the costs and benefits to maximize the overall happiness and minimize the overall
pain and punishment (Sandel, 34). In order for a crime to occur, the overall pleasure should exceed the
pain and punishments. Moreover, those who commit a crime have a low situation control and they are

A Day For Celebration
It was the Day of First Song, and celebrations echoed throughout Adiha. Her residents, supporters of
the Church, packed Civic Square and its adjacent streets. The mingling of their cheers and jeers
created a festive melody that was contagious to all. White fluorescent orbs lined every street and hung
from every doorway, fighting off nights impending darkness in recognition of Aeskar. Elm Tower
watched over the people, a bright white beacon in the fresh spring air. And this was fitting, as it was a
day for celebration. A visitor entering the city would likely be swept up by the crowd, add their own
melody to the Katharos songs, and drink merrily through the next morning. They might even lose
themselves in the cities joy, having drained one too many mugs before stumbling through an inn door.
And they would not be judged for their befuddled state, as it was indeed a day for celebration. It was
on days of celebration like these that people forgot. They might cherish time spent with friends, laugh
at their own blunders, and even chance at love. But the greatest joy of the night was in forgetting the
small hassles that plagued everyday life. The luxury of discarding these weary thoughts, even for a
single day, was priceless. Andorian Ages did not know this luxury. He looked down on the crowds
from Elm Tower. Shackled by iron chains and reputation, wishing that for one moment he could forget
the troubles that consumed his life. And so he stared, fruitlessly feigning

Summary Of The Novel The Secret Of NIMH

Sergei Eisenstein s theory of montage in many scenes too both advance the plot and continue most of
its ongoing themes. The plot of the secret of NIMH is that Mrs. Jonathan Brisby goes on a quest to
save her family from the plough of the farmer that is soon to come. Along the way she is pointed
towards the rats of NIMH who have been experimented on and have consequently become intelligent
and as such they want to become self reliant and stop stealing from the farm. At this point Nicodemus

In The secret of NIMH, this is most apparent, in regard to the sequence at 1:10:50 1:14:51. These
scenes mix elements of, metric, tonal, and rhythmic montages. Within these scenes we get to see the
tension caused by the metric montage as the shots become increasingly shorter with a greater affinity
with closeups. The same is seen with the rhythmic montage as the shots switch between Mrs. Brisby
and the now sinking children which technic demonstrates conflict by using opposing screen directions.
The tonal montage mixes in later in that same sequence as the now distraught Mrs. Brisby is pulled
away from the sunk house containing her children. As the house sinks, we hear a humming sound of a
choir like music in the background which music gives the effect of hope. Therefore the use of the
tonal mortgage can be observed in this scene. It is therefore evident that in this sequence all three of
the mortgages, i.e. metric, rhythmic and tonal montages, were combined and interplayed to create the
Overtonal montage to convey the overwhelming experience demonstrated in this

Samuel Johnson Are The Guardians Of The English Language
Drawing on the discussion of Samuel Johnson s Dictionary in Reading B of Unit 2, critically evaluate
Mitchell s (2005) claim that, while grammarians were the guardians of the English language in the
seventeenth century, lexicographers assumed that role in the eighteenth century .
The rules and explanations of Grammar are different than texts and language in terms of words,
sounds, sentences, and some other elements of language too. Grammar works on combined
explanation of language and interpretations as well. The publication of Samuel Johnson got popularity

B. Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 The Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002

money appear as untainted. To take a simple example, if a person earns money through, say, dealing in
narcotic drugs and thereafter takes some steps whereby it appears to have been earned through some
legitimate business, such as running a laundry shop (the classic example), it is money laundering .
Thus, the ingredients of the Act are clear: there has to be an offence, monies have to be earned through
such offence and then an act should be made delinking such earnings from the offence and linking it
with another act that is not an offence . Relevant Provisions

Why Is Andrew Carnegie Important To America
The Man Behind the Steel
One of the captains of industry in 19th century America, Andrew Carnegie, helped build the
formidable American steel industry, a process that turned a poor young man into one of the richest
entrepreneurs of his age ( Andrew Carnegie ). Andrew Carnegie was beneficial to America in many
ways. He did this through the new technology he introduced to the steel industry, new programs,
public works, and other acts of generosity he committed. However, not only did he benefit the United
States, but he also preached world peace and helped to improve Europe, which indirectly benefited
America. Andrew Carnegie positively affected America through not only himself, but also his

One Act Play Trifles
The one act play Trifles by Susan Glaspell, weaves in and out of Aristotle s theories of unity in time,
place, and action, which define a good play. Her use of unity, as well as her stray from unity, delivers a
plot and series of subplots that cover a variety of conflicts that intertwine to display stereotypical
gender roles that depict women s suffrage. The one act play places the females as the protagonist as
they define and defend their position in a man s world while solving a murder mystery with
discussions over trifles.
Beginning with the unity of time, Glaspell creates a simple understanding of events as well as
character interaction that focus on a 24 hour period revolving around murder discovery. This murder is

The men flow from the outside to the kitchen, to the upstairs, back to the kitchen and then finally back
to the outside. The women, however, spend the majority of their time within the kitchen and living
area of the home. The separation of men and women suggests the freedom of men within 1900 s
compared to the women. Mrs. Hales suggests the kitchen is regarded as the women s place as she
confirms this by stating I d hate to have men coming into my kitchen, snooping around and criticizing
(1110). As the men separate from the women it portrays a division of the male and female genders
while unifying each gender to their own sex. The county attorney confirms the loyalty of Mrs. Hale to
her gender by stating, ah, loyal to your sex, I see. as he notices Mrs. Hale s defense to Mrs. Wright s
when he comments on the order of her kitchen. It is because of the separation of place between the
men and women throughout the play that provides the females with the opportunity to freely relay
their opinions and struggles within the role of the wife. This signifies the conflict of suffrage and
gender stereotypes along with the insecurities the women carry because of the men. The women do
not speak openly in front of the men as noted with the change of body language and with stage
directions of whispering under breath and listening for the footsteps of the men. The women bond
together in the kitchen while the men bond in the unity of freedom and roaming. Glaspell s use of
unity in place provides a setting for the interaction of the males and the females to unfold while the
separation of locations within the place portrays division and unfolds the conflict between the genders
with the divide of social interaction and

from the very start. One must depict how close the couple were, the evidence that Macbeth sends a

Comparing Pros and Cons of S Corporations and LLC s
Comparing pros and cons of S corporations and LLC s
When people want to form a new business ventures, they usually can house their operation under one
of several basic entity types. These entities differ in terms of their legal and tax consideration and each
has advantages and disadvantages from both tax and nontax prospective. Therefore, it is important to
know what type of entity is the best option before opening a new business and it is really depends on
the goals, outlook and strategy for that particular business and its owners.
Generally, for tax purpose business entities can be classified as either separate taxpaying entities or as
flow through entities. Separate taxpaying entities pay taxes on their own income, in other words,
corporation is taxpayer. In contrast, flow through entities are legal entities where income passes to
owners; that is, the income of the entities is treated as the income of the owners. It includes many
major types of corporation such as S corporations, LLC (Limited Liability Companies), Partnership
and Sole Proprietorship. Its major difference from C corporations is that a flow through entity is not
taxed at entity level; rather, the income generated by the organization is taxed directly to the owners.
Therefore, Flow through entities are a common device used to limit taxation by avoiding double
taxation.
Among these flow through entities, I am going to compare and contrast S corporations and LLCs in
different aspects. In order to make

protect them from evil spirits. Secondly there is Mehendi, this is an all ladies party where they apply

A time management system is a designed combination of processes, tools, techniques, and methods.
Usually time management is a necessity in any project development as it determines the project
completion time and scope.
In business, time management has morphed into everything from methodologies such as Enterprise
Resource Planning through consultant services such as Professional Organizers. When we think of
time management, however, we tend to think of personal time management, loosely defined as
managing our time to waste less time on doing the things we have to do so we have more time to do
the things we want to do. Therefore, time management is often thought of or presented as a set of time
management skills; the theory is that once we master the time management skills, we ll be more
organized, efficient, and happier. There are an abundance of books, classes, workshops, day planners,
and seminars on time management, which teach individuals and corporations how to be more
organized and more productive. Time management has become crucial in recent years thanks to the
24/7, busy world in which we live.
Time management is important for everyone. While time management books and seminars often place
their focus on business leaders and corporations, time management is also crucial for students,

The Omnipotence And Omniscience Of God Essay

Professor M. Scott Mayberry

The Omnipotence and Omniscience of God
Does God exist in the universe, or does the universe exist in God? This is the question mankind must
answer when we discuss the attributes of God. Many times humanity attempts to place God in the
universe and placing universal laws and limitations on God, but God is not bound by the laws of the
universe, because the universe exists in God. If it true that God has created everything than how can
he be limited by anything? Only God could limit Himself, by His own choice to do so. Thomas V.
Morris in his article on the omnipotence of God asks; can God do everything that is logically possible?
Who s logic? Are we made in the Image and Likeness of God, or are we attempting to make Him in
ours? The difficulty is this: as humans, we are imperfect, with our viewpoints so limited is it God we
connect to, or merely our own impression of Him? As imperfect humans, we know only ourselves. We
connect to others, but we can never truly go into anybody s mind but our own. Every person exists in a
specific manner, completely immersed in his individual awareness, which is egocentric and exclusive.
As human beings, we look towards reason and logic to try to understand existence and our place in it.
However, there is no human being who is omniscient, so therefore our logic can be flawed, so what is
logically possible?
In the article; Omniscience and human freedom: a

is that everyone has a twin in the world but in my case, it is true. We finally developed separate

I was contacted by public works supervisor Jeremy Bustos (TX DL # 06660917) in reference to a
utility water meter violation at 404 W. 3rd Avenue. Upon arrival, I made contact with Bustos, who
visually showed me a water hose buried under the ground running from the next trailer over that was
connected to city utilities. The trailer had a water hose fitting connected into the trailer that did not
have the utilities turned on, therefore bypassing the city s water utility requirements, a violation of the
city ordinance. I made contact with Crystal Salinas (TX DL # 17969549), Salinas was advised, she
was in violation of the city s water utility

Difference Between Renewable And Non Renewable Energy
Renewable vs non renewable energy
Energy comes in the form of renewable or non renewable energy. Renewable energy resources include
wind, solar, water, biomass and geothermal. These resources are some of which will not run out
because they are natural resources of the earth. Solar energy comes from the sun, wind energy from
the wind geothermal from deep within the earth and so on. Non renewable resources are fossil fuels
such as coal, oil and natural gases. These cannot be replaced so eventually we will run out and have to
rely on renewable energy. Non renewable energy makes up 86 percent of Australia s energy with the
other 14 percent being renewable energy. 73 percent of Australia s energy is using coal while, 13
percent is natural gases, 7 percent is hydropower, 4 percent is wind, 2 percent is rooftop solar and 1
percent is biomass.
There are a few major advantages with non renewable energy. There are plenty of fossil fuels, such as
coal, oil and gas in Australia so this means they are a relatively cheap fuel and readily available.
Australia has enough fossil fuel resources to last for years. Also very large amounts of electricity can
be generated from fossil fuels. Non renewable energy is cost effective and easier to product and use.
According to National Geographic, there are reservoirs of non renewable energy sources throughout
the world. However, there are some disadvantages to non renewable energy. Fossil fuels are non
renewable and will eventually run out because

Voltaire On Racial Differences
In terms of racial difference, the approach that history takes of classifying races as less superior to one
another through the authority of science and medicine was justified by theories and ideas created by
many Enlightenment philosophers, Darwinism and eugenics, and Bell Curve results. This idea of
subordinate races cultivated and was overturned in between nineteenth and twenty first century which
led us to great advances in refining what we know now as racial difference . Racial differences date
back to the early 1800 s when philosophers questioned ideas and obtained the courage to express their
beliefs while opposing the norm. Among many philosophers engaged in this classifying of the races it
s obvious that Francois Marie Voltaire and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based on a generalization on a race and the social outcome of such race one can determine stereotype
would form. This leads to people, educated people, to conduct research of their own and come up with
their own conclusion on racial difference. The Bell Curve, published in 1994 was written by Richard
J. Herrnstein and Charles Murray. This book s purpose was to highlight the statistical differences
between races in terms of intelligence quota. A bell curve is essentially a method of organizing data,
usually grades because of the numerical values, the actual curve is a visual representation of the data
shown on a graph. This curve shows the raised mass in the middle as an average and the lower amount
in ends as the extremes.
In the case of The Bell Curve, a study was conducted where IQ tests were administered to African
Americans and white Americans and the results were plotted on the same graph. The results yielded
that African Americans frequently score one full standard deviation below those of white Americans.
Following the release of The Bell Curve several people around the world gave their public response,
many were simply stunned by these results as it was the first type of research to be conducted in a
racially specific way. This sparked an uproar in the scientific community which led black scientists to
administer the test that were race sensitive and still the same results

Simulation International Poverty Simulation
Poverty is defined as inferior in quantity or insufficient in amount; however, poverty strikes much
harder than simply lacking physical objects, it fosters a lifestyle tough to bear. After completing the
simulations and videos, it was evident that one cannot truly understand the magnitude of poverty
unless it is first hand.
To begin, the international poverty simulation presented a hypothetical situation; a housewife, an agri
labourer, who has two children and little financial support from her spouse was required to balance
money, time, and comfort. The major decisions consisted of what quality of water to obtain, deciding
which food items to purchase, and whether or not to prioritize work or family. Purchasing food was
the hardest task because the financial constraints were so tight. As long as the water doesn t create a
health altercation, the lower quality gets the job done; prioritizing work over family might also be
necessary in the instance. Therefore, purchasing food was difficult because there is no way to work
around it, once the money is gone, one goes hungry. The simulation came to a conclusion when it
notified me the day was over, even though all the tasks were not complete.
Conversely, in the domestic poverty simulation, it presented three job choices as an opportunity to
attempt to relieve the scenario. All of the jobs were minimum earning positions and were somewhat
vague in the description adding to the complexity. Later on, there were decisions such as,

Why Great Men Do Not Become President Essay
Why Great Men Do Not Become President
Over the course of history America has been electing the most popular not necessarily the best
qualified men as president. The office has become a strategic component vital to each political party.
Parties sacrifice a great leader for the man that will win the most votes. History is a record of how we
have always had had this practice. The office is full of corruption because money and influence run
the presidency. The political leaders lie to the people that he is intended to serve.
There are many overwhelming reasons that the best man is not always chosen for the job. They all
inevitably stem down to the simple fact that a political party in order for its survival must have their ...

Location, religion, and political goals for the people are the most common deciding factors. Some of
the other techniques were more obvious in an example of serving in the Union Army greatly increased
your chances at becoming president. Simply being a Union soldier should not be a major factor in
determining a great leader but in the court of public opinion it is kind of prerequisite in the elections
after the Civil War.
The term giving for this was Waving the bloody shirt. Grant was elected after Civil War because of his
role as the leading general of Union forces.
Towards the end of an election, presidential candidates become more of a brand name then a person.
In the most recent election, Bush and Gore both put on equally entertaining shows. While watching a
HBO documentary I was able to get a glimpse that majority of Americans never get to see. It was the
truth behind the man that is the president. The independent documentary shows Bush running down
the street choreographed with news crews to run at the right pace, then turns the corner and gets into a
waiting Lincoln navigator. This is to help his image. People do not want to elect an out of shape
president. Physical ability is something on the minds of all
Americans. Seeing the candidate take a jog down the street helps them secure the image of fitness
with the candidate making it more likely people with the same views will vote for him.
The colorful posters sporting the slogan like Vote

Analysis Of Shooting An Elephant
Sometimes, the people around a man force him to give up his freedom by giving in to what the
audience expects. The person wants to make the audience pleased and wishes to keep his reputation
high. In the short story, Shooting an Elephant , George Orwell, who writes from his own experiences,
describes the life of the narrator, a policeman in a foreign country, Burma. The narrator feels forced to
shoot a wild elephant that has destroyed parts of a village. He does not want to shoot the elephant, but
because the Burmese around him seem determined and excited to see the elephant die, the narrator
feels compelled to do what the natives request to keep his high status and position of authority.
Throughout the time when the narrator has had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the Burmese see the narrator with an elephant rifle, they feel excited. With the weapon in the
officer s hand, the villagers anticipated that Orwell plans to shoot the elephant. The Burmese feel as if
they should follow him to the elephant because they want to see if he will actually kill the elephant.
However, from the narrator s perspective, he states, I had no intention of shooting the elephant I had
merely sent for the rifle to defend myself if necessary . In his mind, he wishes that the elephant will
not be dangerous because he does not want to murder an animal. However, the narrator cannot turn
back. Behind him, there was an immense crowd, two thousand at the least and growing every minute.
It blocked the road for a long distance on either side . The villagers expect him to be brave enough to
shoot the elephant. If he gives up, then the villagers will laugh and mock him for being afraid to kill
the elephant. The narrator knows that every white man s life in the East, was one long struggle not to
be laughed at . If he turns back, he will indicate his weakness and lack of power over the Burmese.
Therefore, he has no choice.
Orwell uses irony to emphasize the impossible position of foreign leaders in a native country. The
narrator s decision to murder the elephant proves his weakness not his strength; instead, with all the
excited Burmese around him, he was only an absurd puppet

Unable to force the moment to its crisis leaves Prufrock emotionally impotent. Immigrants from all around the world have come to one great nation to live the dream. America was founded by immigrants which today are now naturalized citizens by birth and that have several generations of families. The American population will always continue to grow not with the naturalized births but with the arrival of immigrants. Immigrant communities in the first half of the twentieth century were marked by increasing prosperity as well as by cultural change. The new culture of the Polish was a combination of the new (America) and of the old (back in Poland) that became from the industrial and urban communities. Immigrants all alike had poor living conditions, working conditions and received little pay for the demanding jobs that they performed. The factory owners/manager s bottom line was how much money will they make and how little to pay the workers. Not only did the immigrants get paid a small wage, they worked in horrible conditions that would eventually take a toll on their health and finally their lives. They would also work 12 14 hour days with typically one day off between. Studies have shown that various governmental, regional, and demographic factors are also associated with voting turnout. I employ these variables (1) to guard against spurious correlations between the size of immigrant populations and turnout, and (2) as indicators of structural potentialities in urban political systems. (Gordon, 1970) The laws that regulate the registration of the immigrants are not easier in the large populations of the cities. This was due to the difficulty of how spread out the communities was. However, there were some states that did pass literacy tests to determine the literacy level of the communities and immigrants. • 21. The Entangled Political Economy Of Copyright The Entangled Political Economy of Copyright Colin Harris1 ABSTRACT: This paper uses the entangled political economy framework developed by Wagner (2014) to analyze the effects that copyright legislation has on content producers and pirate communities. I identify Digital Rights Management (DRM) technologies as part of the superfluous discovery process that results when politically enforced copyright legislation works to subsidize the cost of creating property rights in creative goods. I also analyze the effects that criminal sanctions against copyright infringement have on how pirate communities choose to self organize. I conclude with the claim that the entangled framework provides for better analysis than the tradition additive political economy framework because copyright does not work to control the outcome of the system and correct for the market failure associated with creative goods, rather it influences specific nodes in the entangled system in particular ways. • 22. Social Media Is Pointless And Detrimental Nowadays, many debates insinuate how social media is pointless and detrimental. Base on my research, I hold a different opinion social media is not only just snapping photos and watching funny videos, but it also increases the generation of informational content and citizen participation in political discussions. In early 2011, thousands of Syrian, especially youth from labor unions, indented to risk their lives to protest against the authoritarian government. By August 2015, more than 250,000 citizens had been killed in the conflict. Furthermore, there are more than 11 million citizens who had been forced to be loyal to President Bashar al Assad. Otherwise, they would of been compelled to leave their homes. Referring to Saxon, D. s case study, Syrian civil war stimulated citizen journalists willingness to get evolved in politics (Saxon, 2013). In four and a half years of armed conflict, hot blooded citizens who were behind the revolutions employed social media as a temporary press, contributing with their documentaries of the revolutions from the inside of the country. In the case of Syrian civil war, the progress in technology and the presence of social media provided opportunities to the citizens; empowering them to speak up about political issues in online platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube (Wall Zahed, 2014). • 23. The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Youth Participation In... The sport of tennis is often thought of as a country club sport limited only to the wealthy and elite. Due to its financial requirements, people who are less fortunate are often denied opportunities to play. Substantial expenses that accumulate from lessons, equipment, and membership fees deter potential players from participating. Inner city youth are underrepresented due to lack of attainable resources and programs. Aside from financial limitations, many junior athletes favor the characteristics of team sports such as football, soccer, and basketball over the independence and isolation of an individual sport like tennis. Not to mention, team sports are often far less costly. Due to these drawbacks and perceptions, prospective junior tennis athletes are often more inclined to take the route of a different sport. I believe that youth participation in tennis is deteriorating. As an avid tennis player and advocate for the sport, I identify this as a major problem. Discovering practical methods that introduce and attract younger players to tennis is crucial in expanding participation. Broadening accessibility to tennis, demonstrating its positive values, and targeting specific ethnic and social groups are worthy solutions in reversing the negative trend. Inner city kids are some who have the most difficulty becoming involved in tennis. A large majority of these kids don t come from an economic background capable of providing expenses required for participation in the sport. Talented underprivileged kids may never have the opportunity to go to a country club and take lessons. More often than not, urban areas lack the facilities and money to provide tennis programs for their kids. This economic deficit becomes a major challenge for impoverished kids who want to learn tennis. As a result, inner city youth neglect even the thought of playing tennis, and become underrepresented as a part of the junior tennis community. By finding a way to give the inner city kids of poorer, urban areas the opportunities to take part in tennis, we can expect to see participation of youth rise. One practical method to encourage the involvement of inner city kids is to implement tennis programs in public schools. By introducing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Its purpose was to overcome stereotyped thinking (Lecture, Week 6). On the other hand, individuals were enraged and disappointed. Barry Goldwater opposed this Act by stating that one cannot legislate morality because The justices cannot, of course, invoke their own personal morality, nor the ideals and virtues of morality generally (Sandel, 249). He aimed for a neutral state that respects individual choice (Sandel, 219). Laws are created based on one s own moral beliefs, science, and logic. The mingling of their cheers and jeers created a festive melody that was contagious to all. White fluorescent orbs lined every street and hung from every doorway, fighting off nights impending darkness in recognition of Aeskar. Elm Tower watched over the people, a bright white beacon in the fresh spring air. And this was fitting, as it was a day for celebration. A visitor entering the city would likely be swept up by the crowd, add their own melody to the Katharos songs, and drink merrily through the next morning. They might even lose themselves in the cities joy, having drained one too many mugs before stumbling through an inn door. And they would not be judged for their befuddled state, as it was indeed a day for celebration. It was on days of celebration like these that people forgot. They might cherish time spent with friends, laugh at their own blunders, and even chance at love. But the greatest joy of the night was in forgetting the small hassles that plagued everyday life. The luxury of discarding these weary thoughts, even for a single day, was priceless. Andorian Ages did not know this luxury. He looked down on the crowds from Elm Tower. The tonal montage mixes in later in that same sequence as the now distraught Mrs. Brisby is pulled away from the sunk house containing her children. Mrs. Hales suggests the kitchen is regarded as the women s place as she confirms this by stating I d hate to have men coming into my kitchen, snooping around and criticizing (1110). As the men separate from the women it portrays a division of the male and female genders while unifying each gender to their own sex. The county attorney confirms the loyalty of Mrs. Hale to her gender by stating, ah, loyal to your sex, I see. as he notices Mrs. Hale s defense to Mrs. Wright s when he comments on the order of her kitchen. It is because of the separation of place between the men and women throughout the play that provides the females with the opportunity to freely relay their opinions and struggles within the role of the wife. Scott Mayberry 13 December 2016 The Omnipotence and Omniscience of God Does God exist in the universe, or does the universe exist in God? This is the question mankind must answer when we discuss the attributes of God. Many times humanity attempts to place God in the universe and placing universal laws and limitations on God, but God is not bound by the laws of the universe, because the universe exists in God. If it true that God has created everything than how can he be limited by anything? Only God could limit Himself, by His own choice to do so. Thomas V. Morris in his article on the omnipotence of God asks; can God do everything that is logically possible? Who s logic? Are we made in the Image and Likeness of God, or are we attempting to make Him in ours? The difficulty is this: as humans, we are imperfect, with our viewpoints so limited is it God we connect to, or merely our own impression of Him? As imperfect humans, we know only ourselves. We connect to others, but we can never truly go into anybody s mind but our own. Every person exists in a specific manner, completely immersed in his individual awareness, which is egocentric and exclusive. As human beings, we look towards reason and logic to try to understand existence and our place in it. However, there is no human being who is omniscient, so therefore our logic can be flawed, so what is logically possible? In the article; Omniscience and human freedom: a ... Based on a generalization on a race and the social outcome of such race one can determine stereotype would form. This leads to people, educated people, to conduct research of their own and come up with their own conclusion on racial difference. The Bell Curve, published in 1994 was written by Richard J. Herrnstein and Charles Murray. This book s purpose was to highlight the statistical differences between races in terms of intelligence quota. A bell curve is essentially a method of organizing data, usually grades because of the numerical values, the actual curve is a visual representation of the data shown on a graph. This curve shows the raised mass in the middle as an average and the lower amount in ends as the extremes. In the case of The Bell Curve, a study was conducted where IQ tests were administered to African Americans and white Americans and the results were plotted on the same graph. The results yielded that African Americans frequently score one full standard deviation below those of white Americans. Following the release of The Bell Curve several people around the world gave their public response, many were simply stunned by these results as it was the first type of research to be conducted in a racially specific way. This sparked an uproar in the scientific community which led black scientists to administer the test that were race sensitive and still the same results ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Simulation International Poverty Simulation Poverty is defined as inferior in quantity or insufficient in amount; however, poverty strikes much harder than simply lacking physical objects, it fosters a lifestyle tough to bear. After completing the simulations and videos, it was evident that one cannot truly understand the magnitude of poverty unless it is first hand. To begin, the international poverty simulation presented a hypothetical situation; a housewife, an agri labourer, who has two children and little financial support from her spouse was required to balance money, time, and comfort. The major decisions consisted of what quality of water to obtain, deciding which food items to purchase, and whether or not to prioritize work or family. Purchasing food was the hardest task because the financial constraints were so tight. As long as the water doesn t create a health altercation, the lower quality gets the job done; prioritizing work over family might also be necessary in the instance. Therefore, purchasing food was difficult because there is no way to work around it, once the money is gone, one goes hungry. The simulation came to a conclusion when it notified me the day was over, even though all the tasks were not complete. Conversely, in the domestic poverty simulation, it presented three job choices as an opportunity to attempt to relieve the scenario. All of the jobs were minimum earning positions and were somewhat vague in the description adding to the complexity. Later on, there were decisions such as, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Why Great Men Do Not Become President Essay Why Great Men Do Not Become President Over the course of history America has been electing the most popular not necessarily the best qualified men as president. The office has become a strategic component vital to each political party. Parties sacrifice a great leader for the man that will win the most votes. History is a record of how we have always had had this practice. The office is full of corruption because money and influence run the presidency. The political leaders lie to the people that he is intended to serve. There are many overwhelming reasons that the best man is not always chosen for the job. They all inevitably stem down to the simple fact that a political party in order for its survival must have their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Location, religion, and political goals for the people are the most common deciding factors. Some of the other techniques were more obvious in an example of serving in the Union Army greatly increased your chances at becoming president. Simply being a Union soldier should not be a major factor in determining a great leader but in the court of public opinion it is kind of prerequisite in the elections after the Civil War. The term giving for this was Waving the bloody shirt. Grant was elected after Civil War because of his role as the leading general of Union forces. Towards the end of an election, presidential candidates become more of a brand name then a person. In the most recent election, Bush and Gore both put on equally entertaining shows. While watching a HBO documentary I was able to get a glimpse that majority of Americans never get to see. It was the truth behind the man that is the president. The independent documentary shows Bush running down the street choreographed with news crews to run at the right pace, then turns the corner and gets into a waiting Lincoln navigator. This is to help his image. People do not want to elect an out of shape president. Physical ability is something on the minds of all Americans. Seeing the candidate take a jog down the street helps them secure the image of fitness with the candidate making it more likely people with the same views will vote for him. The colorful posters sporting the slogan like Vote ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Analysis Of Shooting An Elephant Sometimes, the people around a man force him to give up his freedom by giving in to what the audience expects. The person wants to make the audience pleased and wishes to keep his reputation high. In the short story, Shooting an Elephant , George Orwell, who writes from his own experiences, describes the life of the narrator, a policeman in a foreign country, Burma. The narrator feels forced to shoot a wild elephant that has destroyed parts of a village. He does not want to shoot the elephant, but because the Burmese around him seem determined and excited to see the elephant die, the narrator feels compelled to do what the natives request to keep his high status and position of authority. Throughout the time when the narrator has had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the Burmese see the narrator with an elephant rifle, they feel excited. With the weapon in the officer s hand, the villagers anticipated that Orwell plans to shoot the elephant. The Burmese feel as if they should follow him to the elephant because they want to see if he will actually kill the elephant. However, from the narrator s perspective, he states, I had no intention of shooting the elephant I had merely sent for the rifle to defend myself if necessary . In his mind, he wishes that the elephant will not be dangerous because he does not want to murder an animal. However, the narrator cannot turn back. Behind him, there was an immense crowd, two thousand at the least and growing every minute. It blocked the road for a long distance on either side . The villagers expect him to be brave enough to shoot the elephant. If he gives up, then the villagers will laugh and mock him for being afraid to kill the elephant. The narrator knows that every white man s life in the East, was one long struggle not to be laughed at . If he turns back, he will indicate his weakness and lack of power over the Burmese. Therefore, he has no choice. Orwell uses irony to emphasize the impossible position of foreign leaders in a native country. The narrator s decision to murder the elephant proves his weakness not his strength; instead, with all the excited Burmese around him, he was only an absurd puppet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
