Are Monopolies Necessarily Less Efficient Than Perfect...
This essay will look at efficiency between both a monopoly and a perfect competition, and
whether a monopoly is necessarily less efficient than perfect competition. Using diagrams and
equations reflecting the optimal choice of output, marginal revenue and marginal cost for
monopolies, I will explain how efficiency is affected by low levels of production. At the same
time monopolies can increase efficiency due to their ability in price discrimination, they price
people differently and therefore people pay what they truly believe the good is worth. There needs
to be a clear description of the differences between monopolyand perfect competition as well as
efficiency; an analysis of deadweight loss and natural monopoly is also important... Show more

Snyder and Nicholson describe Pareto efficient allocation as an allocation of resources, where it is
not possible through further reallocations to make one person better off without making someone
else worse off (Snyder and Nicholson, 2005, p.467). Varian further explains that a competitive
industry operates where price equals marginal cost, while a monopolised industry operates where
price is greater than marginal cost; therefore a higher price creates a lower output (Varian, 1996,
p.411 412).
[pic]
From the diagram above we can see that if we get the firm to behave as a competitor and take the
market price as being set exogenously. Then we would have (Pc, Yc) for competitive price and
output. If the firm recognised its influence on the market price and chose its level of output so as
to maximise profits, we would see monopoly price and output (Pm, Ym). Since P(y) is greater
than MC(y) for all the output levels between Ym and Yc, there is a whole range of output where
people are willing to pay more for a unit of output than it costs to produce it. Clearly there is
potential for Pareto improvement (Varian, 1996, p.412 413).
A measure of efficiency can be produced by analysing the total surplus for a given market; this is
seen by subtracting the total cost from gross consumption benefits. The higher the level of total
surplus the more efficient production

Murder and a Meal Lab Report
The purpose of this lab was to test different substances using various procedures to see what
biomolecules were present and ultimately find out what restaurant Anna Lyza had eaten at
before she died. For the first control test, we used vegetable oil to test for lipids. So, if the
solution does not contain lipids, it does not become translucent when placed onto a paper bag
square and held up to a light. So, it is a negative result. However, in the presence of lipids, the
solution will become translucent when placed onto a paper bag square and held up to a light.
Therefore in this case, the result is positive. On the other hand, we used albumin egg to test for
proteins in another control test. If the solution does not contain proteins, it will not experience any
color change and so it is a negative result. When there are proteins existing in the solution, it will
turn bluish/purplish and for this reason it is a positive result. Furthermore in the third control test,
we used dextrose to test for simple carbohydrates such as glucose. If the solution does not contain
simple carbohydrates, it will not undergo any color change and will remain a blue color. So, it is a
negative result in this circumstance. If there are simple carbohydrates present in the solution, the
solution will turn reddish and so the result is positive. For the last control test, we used starch
solution to test

I Will Fight No More Forever And The Grapes Of Wrath
The idea of the American Dream is ever changing depending on the person and the time of life that
person is in. Although the main ideas of the American Dream remain the same to be educated,
economically sound, healthy, to have a family, and equal rights. Many great films and works of
literature were created to show case all the different ideas people have for their American Dream.
The film Grapes of Wrath directed by John Ford and the poem I Will Fight No More Forever by
Chief Joseph, both depict two different American experiences, one of a familyimmersed in poverty;
the other, imbedded in a dying culture. However, in both stories there is a strong focus on

Their son, Tom, gets out of jail and his goal is to meet up with his family. He finds his family at
the uncle s house and he is happy to be back with them. This is important to him. Together, the
family decides to go to California so they can find work. They could have decided to spilt up and
find work in different parts of the country. It might have been easier to split up because you are
not trying to find work for a lot of people at one time at one location, especially during a time
when work is very difficult to find. Again, keeping the family together is important to the Joad
family so they stay together and to head west. Before they can leave the farm, the grandfather has
a breakdown and refuses to not leave the farm. The grandfather say s It s my dirt! Eh heh! No
good, but it s it s mine, all mine (Grapes). Although the farm is in horrible condition and the plants
are not growing, he feels that all his hard work has gone into this land. The only option the family
has to keep the grandfather with them is to drug him and bring him with them.
The trip to California from Oklahoma is long and not favorable to the family. It takes many days
and nights to get there. The family has very little food and money to left. During the trip, both the
grandfather and grandmother die along the way. Things look awful for the family. When they get to
California, the daughter s husband is skeptical about finding work and he decides to leaves.

Arthurian Legend
Arthurian Legend, group of tales in several languages that concern the legendary King Arthur of
the Britons, his realm, and the knights of his inner circle. The legend is one of the most enduring
tales in recorded history. It first appeared in the 5th or 6th century ad and took its basic form
between the 12th and 15th centuries. It continues as a popular subject in modern times.
The legend presents Arthur as a leader in ancient times who defeats the Saxons and other enemies.
He thereby unites the people of Britain in peace and harmony. Eventually his kingdom weakens
from within in part because of the illicit love between Arthur s queen, Guinevere, and the knight
Lancelot and Arthur himself is struck down by his own illegitimate son, ... Show more content on

As Arthur fathers an illegitimate son, so too does Lancelot, although he does so while under a
spell that makes him think the woman (named Elaine) is actually Guinevere. Lancelot s son,
Galahad, is entirely free of sin and weakness, and thus he alone is ultimately qualified to complete
the quest and find the Holy Grail. (Sir Bors and Sir Percival accompany him, but they are
excluded from the final holy vision that appears to Galahad as he reaches the Grail.)
Once the quest is ended, peace does not last, and eventually Arthur s armies are embroiled in new
wars, including one with the Romans, who demand tribute from Arthur and provoke a battle. Not
all the conflicts involve foreign enemies, however. When Arthur discovers Lancelot and Guinevere
s love affair, his system of justice requires that Guinevere be arrested and condemned to death.
Lancelot flees but then returns to rescue her. During the ensuing battle, Lancelot kills the brothers
of Sir Gawain, who remain loyal to Arthur. As a consequence, Gawain and Lancelot, formerly the
closest of friends, become enemies.
Arthur s absence from court while battling the Romans and pursuing Lancelot offers Mordred the
opportunity to seize the throne. He attempts to do so by buying the allegiance of Arthur s barons,
and some texts say that he either

The beginning of the book already presents the problem that every man would like to have a

This is a question to which Ellen G white sister was proposed to respond to through the pages of

Analysis Of Kanye West s Song All Falls Down
The song I have chosen to talk about is one of my favorite songs ever and it s called All Falls
Down by Kanye West. The College Dropout came out in 2004 and was Kanye Wests debut
album as a music artist. This song was his third single off the album. As shown from Barbaric
Poetries blog, Tia states that Kanye s message in this song is that, when you live life to impress
others and cover up your insecurities, you will never be satisfied, thus all will seem to fall down
(http://barbaricpoetries. blogspot.com/2012/04/and it all falls down.html). The catchy melody
given in the beginning of the song is what caught everyone s ears when it first came out. Kanye

basically existing off what her parents wants for her and not for herself. Even if you wanted to
become successful in life there has to be consequences you have to take in order to become
prosperous. In the life of a college student you find that the student is the one who has to take
penalties in order to get that degree. Making time for yourself to succeed is mandatory for you to
keep in your mind at all times. Since Kanye named his album The College Dropout , he frequently
inquiries the significance of going to college. The title of his debut album actually tells us a
story of everything that he was going through at the time. Several individuals go to college
because it s a safe way to partake if you don t have anything planned after you have graduated
from high school. Great parents will tell their children to go to college because it would be a
backup plan if they didn t do anything else with their career. If plan A doesn t work, you always
have plan B to back you up right after. A lot of people will most likely assume they ll get a very
nice profession after college but it usually doesn t end up that way. People just end up working
with jobs that have nothing to do with their careers because it would be so hard to find one with
their studies and some people just don t have a job right after. Nothing is promised after you
finished college unless you work your butt off. As he states in his lyrics That major that she
majored in don t make no money, but she won t drop out, her parents will look at her funny. (http:/

The Perfect Concept Of Beauty In Edvard Munch s The Scream
As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, Love of beauty is taste. The creation of beauty is art.
Therefore, does that mean that all art is supposed to be beautiful? During the time of the
Renaissance, the objective of beauty is vastly different compared to modern beauty. Even so, the
ideal concept of beauty for women during the Renaissance era was to be nothing more than sensual.
Women in paintings during the modern time are genuinely petite. That is what most would
consider beautiful and all women strive to be in order to one day wife a wealthy man. The painting
called The Scream, is a piece of art that could debatably be considered beautiful. Thus, what really
determines if art is truly beautiful? Edvard Munch s 1893 modern art painting called The Scream is
one of the most famous paintings of all time. Edvard Munch s painting is famous for its bountiful
colors, the effulgent sky, and not to mention the individual screaming in anguish all alone on the
never before seen, dock. Like Vincent Van Gogh, Edvard Munch went through his life struggling
with anxiety and ultimately insanity. The painter was not only troubled with this disorder through
his own ways, but also witnessed his mentally ill sister be hospitalized around the same time as the
magnificent painting was made. With this information, Edvard Munch created The Scream as an
autobiographical picture. The painting is considered to be an expressionistic construction of
Munch s real life experience of a horrific scream

Nantucket Research Paper
Nantucket residents know the special gift they have living on the Island, even part of the year.
To keep the Island economy hale and hearty, shopping local is the only answer. The good news
is that Nantucket Island has plenty of local shops and merchants to enjoy. The Fun of Shopping
Locally Shopping locally helps to preserve the unique culture that is Nantucket. One of the noted
local crafts is the Nantucket Lightship Basket, a basket unique to the fishing culture of
Nantucket. This native craft has transformed into bracelets that are a true offshoot of this
tradition. Nantucket Bracelets is hand woven from rattan with a clasp made of legally available

American Dream in the Film, The Pursuit of Happyness Essay
Today, The American dream is not fully represented in the same way as the ideas were initially
raised. The ideas were primarily fabricated in the very beginning of our country. The propagandist
role of any medium has changed just as much as the times have since the signing of the
Declaration of Independence. In contemporary America, film is the leading component of the
propagation and detraction of the American dream. The film The Pursuit of Happyness (2005)
supports the idea of the American dream our founding fathers set out. Wall Street (1987) on the
other hand, supports and acts as a detractor of the true American dream and leads people to

These unalienable rights: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness set the stage for the possibility
of any person to pursue what makes them happy and not be bound by any restrictions since all men
are created equal. This combined with the tenacity or determination of the American people to be
treated equally truly defines what the American dream is. Propaganda of the American dream in
the earlier parts of our country was promoted through the ideas of our government and the known
ability to be free. This eventually evolved into propaganda by entertainment such as posters,
newspapers, film and anything that would reflect on a large audience . In this day in time, we get
most of our propaganda through television. The cause of this is the increase in popularity of
watching television or films over reading books. If this were not happening people may get their
view of the American dream through literature ranging from the autobiography of Benjamin
Franklin to Mark Twain s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn , which promote the American
Dream as it was intended. So, the role of American Films acting on the thoughts of Americans is
changing just as quickly as technology, for retrieving information at least. Knowing this, the
propagandist role of the American dream through film

Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe vs. The Second Coming by William Butler Yeats
When comparing the novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe and William butler Yeats poem
The Second Coming , at first there seem to be no similarities except for the phrase things fall apart
which is used in both. But as one closely examinee the reasons why both authors use this sentence,
one realizes that both of them try to show a great change, which, in the poem is related to reality,
while in the novel is related to the story.
It is important to mention that the two people who are comparable are not the poet and the writer

We can be more specific and see what the poet and writer exactly talk about. It is better to focus
on the poem first as it was written before the novel. In his poem William butler Yeatsis shocked by
the events which were happening during the First World War. Mere anarchy is loosed upon the
world, The blood dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere the ceremony of innocence is drowned... ,
he tries to picture the dark ages of the war and the nasty events which were happening by using
some metaphors and similes such as a shape with lion body and the head of man or shadows of the
indignant desert birds Therefore, he manage to transmit the terrifying atmosphere of his time to the
reader. He can not stand this state of fairs so he thinks that it is the end and he hopes that it is time
for the second coming of Christ.
Going back to the novel, we see Okonwo, who is extremely shocked by the twists which take
place in his tribe as a cultural revolution. He sees their ancient religion giving its place to
Christianity, and their father s culture and traditions, which his life was based on, fall apart. To
make things even worse, his own son turns his back to him. Okonkwo can not stand this as a result
he tries to fight against the people who were the creators of this disaster. But as he fails, he commits
suicide, preferring to kill himself, rather than let those strangers kill him.
In conclusion, it is worth mentioning that according to the novel we see that

The Gay Liberation movement had formed and radicalized in the late 60 s in response to the

Generally, the conception of patent indirect infringement is to meet the need of pantent protection.
It expands the protection domain of the patent right to the no patented products, improves patent

The Alamo
To the people of Texas and all Americans in the World:
I shall never surrender or retreat ... I Am determined to sustain myself as long as possible and die

It all started in 1830 with Stephen Austin, a leader of American pioneers in the wild, living in

In the fall of 1835 Santa Anna had sent more troops, under the leadership of his brother in law
General Martin Cos, to Texas in order to enforce the immigration laws. Austin and some soldiers
had surrounded settlements in Mexican territory and were considered by the government to be
rebels. Mexico had no choice but to attempt to use military forces.
Thirty thousand Texans were willing to fight against a nation of seven million. They did not receive
any government aid from the United States but sympathetic Southern states secretly sent troops.
The war began with battle of the Lexington of the Texas revolution taken place on October 2,
1835. This little battle consisted of one hundred Mexican troops sent to Gonzales, a town east of
San Antonio, to order the settlers to surrender their only cannon. The soldiers said come and take it
and eventually they killed one Mexican soldier. The war had begun.
More and more Texans answered the call to arms such as Ben Milan a soldier of the War of 1812,
James Bowie who was know for his knife, Sam Houston and Stalwart Davy Crockett both former
soldiers and congressmen. The name that would lead them all William Barrette Travis.

Red Plate Science Project
The hypothesis for this project is If the Effect of Preference of Colored Plates is green then, the
Amount of Cookies Eaten will increase. This project is based on the statement that a red plate
can warn the conscious to not eat the substance that is on that plate. The science fair project is
going to try to show that statement to be right. The project is interesting because of the science
behind the statement; that a person s conscious could relate a red plate to a stop sign, which is
also red. The person s conscious would then think of what to do at a stop sign and then, would feel
cautious about eating what is on the plate. The significance of this project is to actually test on how

Similarities Between Delany And Ursula Le Guin
Science fiction has evolved from simple ideas to the most imaginative creations, it has been
predominantly managed by closed minded people. This has led to authors of science fiction to
follow a set of norms while writing. These norms include advanced technology, male heroes, and
white male authors. The idea of a character being placed in a distant future and the use of advanced
technology is a common theme used. Samuel Delany and Ursula Le Guin are two contrasting
authors that discuss oppression of minorities in their work in similar and distinct ways. Diversity in
science fictionprovides an outlet for authors like Delany and Le Guin to provide the reader with an
understanding of the cultural influence of minority groups, empathy towards... Show more content

Women have been portrayed as fragile creatures and men as muscular beings in science fiction. Le
Guin alludes to sexism in her work The Dispossessed through the world building of her novel.
Anarres is a planet where citizens are all equal to each other no one owns property or has more
wealth over another. The world that is Anarres has no true rules but laws that revolve around
equality and harmony. All citizens are required to work in order to contribute to everyone s well

dependence on capitalism. In contrast, the planet of Urras is highly capitalistic and ruled by a

same knowledge that the men pose. Shevek first encounters this when he talks with Vea is an

of what equality is and what it is not. Anarres is what a perfect world would be harmony

Banning Books Essay

The practice of censorship and banning of books in learning institution has been prevalent mostly
due to the explicit content incorporated in them. However, banning of certain books in pretense to
conceal content perceived inappropriate to impressionable children is an infringement of their right
to access information of their area of choice. While banning some book at times has valid reasons,
it is important to endorse and emphasize that every child has the liberty to select, at their discretion,
which book to read. While it is agreeable that parents and teachers should play a noble role in
regulating books that entail controversial topics as well as educating their children as their primary
guardian, their right does not extend to controlling and monitoring what children read ... Show more

Book censorship and bans only primes to conformity and thus limiting the variety and range of
expression as well as inquiry on which the philosophy depends. Banning and censoring reading
materials is capable of limiting the technological innovations, research as well as creativity. It is
hence the responsibility of the democracy to avail a diversity of views whether popular or
unpopular and else should not coerce the opinions and ideas of some while inhibiting the exertions
of others (Memphis, 1). Rather than banning books content, publishers should rather give complete
connotation to the liberty of reading by providing books capable of enriching the diversity as well
as the quality of knowledge. Reading liberation is of diminutive consequence not unless the reader
obtains materials suiting their purposes. Books should hence not be banned due to diverse peoples
conflicting views either since one is not entitled to agree with what he reads but should rather learn
from it. For instance, history aids students in knowing the events that transpired to shape the world

the fiscal year. * Bonus: Annual non equity incentives earned during the fiscal year, plus

realized from vesting of restricted stock and performance shares. Also includes other executive
personal benefits, such as premiums for supplemental life insurance, annual medical examinations,
tax preparation and financial counseling fees, club memberships, security services and the use of
corporate aircraft. * Stock gains: Value realized during the fiscal year by exercising vested
options granted in previous years. The gain is the difference between the stock price on the date of

Stock options are another main concern and are based upon the performance of a company. A lot
of companies are in a low return and low compensation which then caused bad business and it s
about 400 times that amount. I believe the government is trying to tighten down on excessive
executive compensation with implementing salary caps. Executives are unrealistic with common
life and way of living therefore; they do not take any consideration with the underdogs of the
company or the world. The economy does have hope but it s a long way from being stabilized once

Habits Of Low Self Esteem
People demonstrates different habits based on their self esteem. You can predict an individual s
self esteem type by the habits he or she exhibits. Numerous factors affect our self esteem
positively or negatively. Some of the habits we have go a long way in determining how we value
ourselves.
There are numerous factors that cause low self esteem, these include look or weight, mental
challenges, peer group/pressure, bullying etc. Anyone exposed to any of these factors is prone to
have low self esteem. For instance, constant bullying in schools could make a child develop low
self esteem at a tender age. The child will see him as not strong enough or too lousy to stand up
for himself. Therefore, bullying should be discouraged in schools. Most kids who suffer from
bullies end up most of the time with low self esteem.
One of such kid was the great actor; Jackie Chan. Jackie was bullied severely as a child because he
was too scared to fight for himself. He was an easy target in his school; other children pick on him
easily. Low self esteem can keep you at bay and relegate you to irrelevance. Jackie eventually
escaped it when he prevented a new kid from being bullied.
A person with low self esteem will exhibit the following habits:
They Exhibit Perfectionism: People with low self esteem are known to be chronic perfectionists.
They are always looking for a way to achieve perfect results. Importantly, you know that it is not
easy to achieve 100% result. However, when the

Neil Postman s Exploration Of This Issue
As everyone knows society has many problems, however many do not realize that root of these
problems may stem from the way they are discussed and presented. When a person compares how
information was obtained and current issues were discussed prior to this century they come to find
that the contrast between now and then is so outstanding. It s completely clear why many people
aren t aware of what has been happening. The reason the difference is so profound is because our
discourse has gradually been dumbed down since the beginning of the information era, and people
are treating the serious issues that arise as entertainment. The most powerful culprit being television
, has being accused of causing damage to the people that were raised in the TV era. Neil Postman
s exploration of this issue in his novel written in 1985, Amusing Ourselves to Death, is a crucial
hint of the consequences of being immersed in a culture that is driven by television. Even though it
has been 20 years since the book was published the influx of internet only makes his novel more
and more relevant to today than it was when it was written
Postman s key argument is the comparison of two tremendously different imagined cultures in
literature. The first came from the English novelist, George Orwell s dictatorial society novel,
1984. The other view came from English writer and philosopher Aldous Huxley s novel called
Brave New World. In George Orwell s version people are oppressed from an external force and

Knowles throughout the story fails to introduce very many characters besides Finny and
occasional side characters. Almost giving the sense that the book was written about Finny. Were
it not for Gene s commentary, the book could pass as a fictional biography of Finny. However,
this is a book of anger, confusion, and evil intention. The amount of awe Gene possesses for
Finny is incredible, and the pin point analyzation of him is notable. It is also important to
identify the literary rebirth motif used towards the beginning of the book: Phineas, still asleep on
his dune, made me think of Lazarus, brought back to life by the touch of God (50) Finny is seen
as entirely new person to Gene in a change of feelings. Where there is perfection, blunder is just
as likely to occur. Gene and Finny have a bizarre reliance on eachother. Knowles makes it very
clear their seemingly unbreakable bond. It is now understood the main theme of the book, their
friendship. We begin to see and understand the conflicting personalities. Gene is the pure brains
and reasoning with little to no athletic skill, as Phineas is the sports star, without a care in the
world. Immediately we identify the conflict as Gene s jealousy. Gene envies Finny s charisma and
abilities different from his own. Gene s paranoid personality attempts to defend himself for his
unreasonable anger and even creates a fabricated hatred of himself by Finny to justify his feelings,

Some people say social media technology has caused a lack of social etiquette and personal

to think outside the box, helping to reinforce intelligence. I have come to conclude that these
countless technological changes have helped us to evolve as a whole and to better our future.
These changes simplify the way we do many things in society and have also contributed to
making it a safer place to live. Change will happen, it is up to the people of the world to accept
and embrace it. What we have now will only become more advanced in the future.

Emotions in Negotiations
We negotiate every day for different purposes, and each day we experience emotions, both
positive and negative. When negotiating, formally or informally, with family or in the
organizational workplace we often do not know how to handle ourselves, yet alone the emotions
of the other person or group. As educated people, we often try to ignore the influence of emotions
on decision making. Neuroscience evidence now shows that sound and rational decision making
is contingent on prior accurate emotional processing. The basis for this is the somatic marker
hypothesis. The somatic marker hypothesis provides a systems level neuroanatomical and
cognitive framework for decision making, the impact, and influence on it by emotions. The key
idea of this hypothesis is that decision making is a process that is influenced by marker signals
that arise in bio regulatory processes, which includes those that express themselves in emotions
and feelings. This influence can occur at multiple levels of operation, some of which occur
consciously and some of which occur non consciously (Bechara Damasio, 2000). Essentially,
somatic markers are associations of stimuli that induce an associated physiological affective state.
We may feel embarrassed; have muscle contractions, experience a heart rate increase, endocrine
release, posture, and facial expression changes. These are all a result of somatic marker
interpretation. The physiological change occurs in the brain and is relayed to the

Ancient Penguin Discoveries and Evolution Essay
Ancient Penguin Discoveries and Evolution
In a recent BBC News article, Ivan Noble discusses the possibility that ancient penguins may hold
the key to unlocking the mysteries behind the complicated molecular clock of evolution. Although a
seemingly unlikely animal to research, prehistoric penguin remains in the Antarctic often have been
the basis for study, research, as well as debate in the modern science world. Because the prehistoric
relatives of the cute and cuddly modern day birds have colonies that are characterized by high
densities and high mortality , large deposits of the subfossil bones have been serially preserved in
the cold Antarctic environment (Lambert Ritchie), making the animals prime candidates for ... Show

The distinctive mutations, which are thought to occur at a steady rate (Noble), can then be traced,
tracked, and recorded in the fossil record.
Determining the age of the remains proved critical in the discovery. In this study, ancient penguin
guano (an accumulation of dung) was radio carbon dated to ensure accurate sequencing. Ages
also were assigned to nucleotide sequences from bones, either because the bones themselves were
directly dated or strata from which they were isolated were dated (Lambert Ritchie). The
radiocarbon ages of AdГ©lie penguin bones demonstrate that both mitochondrial lineages were
present at least 6082 years ago, and possibly as far back as 8000 years ago.
Surprisingly, it is not the fossils themselves, or even the fossils old age, that makes the discovery
unique. The DNA samples from these bones, however, offer valuable insight into the same
molecular clock that scientists use to investigate the evolutionary history of animals. Because the
ancient DNA extracted from the frozen AdГ©lie penguin bones was of high quality (Lambert
Ritchie), scientists were able to analyze any and all major splits between the two discovered
lineages. By comparing the DNA of ancient bone samples to samples from modern day living
animals, researchers constructed median networks in order to display relationships

Question 1: Researchers found that Einstein s brain had a higher ratio of glial cells to neurons than
other brains. What are glial cells, and why might having more glial cells be important?
Answer 1: Glial cells are cells that surround neurons and provide support for and insulation between
them. Glial cells are also the most abundant cells in the central nervous system. Types of glial cells
include oligodendrocytes, which have processes that form the myelin sheaths around CNS nerve
fibers, astrocytes the most abundant CNS neuroglia, ependymal cells that line cerebrospinal fluid
cavities, microglia cells that are the defensive cells in the CNS, schwann cells and satellite cells,

David Moore s A Defense Of Common Sense
There are certain beliefs about the world that we can conclude to be absolutely true. For Moore,
these beliefs are Common Sense. It is our basic view and common sense of the world that is
correct. Moore believes that you have to be justified in what you believe, and common sense is an
adequate way of justifying those beliefs. In A Defense of Common Sense , Moore argues these
claims in 5 different sections. These include: certain knowledge of truisms, the distinction between
mental facts and physical facts, the existenceof God, God creating all material things and the
afterlife, how common sense propositions are to be analyzed concerning sense data, and how
philosophers are confused about analyzing interactions between the external world... Show more

Heading (2) is comprised of a single proposition, which makes an assertion of an entire set of
classes of propositions. It is a proposition that cannot be asserted without the whole list of truisms
from (1). Heading (2)of propositions correspond with (1) regarding to someone knowing that there
are many human beings other than oneself that have gone through the same processes and
experiences on Earth as asserted in heading (1) of propositions.
Moore identifies that heading (2) of propositions differs in opinion with other philosophers. Moore
splits philosophers differing in his opinion of Common Sense propositions from being wholly true
into two categories. Some philosophers either deny the truth of the beliefs or deny that we know
the beliefs at all. Moore uses the example of the earth has existed for many years past to point out
that these other philosophers that dispute an assertion like that, do not mean it to be a simple
question when as if it is true. They are abstract in their thinking, by asking more questions on the

Persuasive Essay On A Camping Trip
Camping in Alaska, Arizona, and Colorado The wilderness is vast, unforgiving, and beauteous;
those who visit it unprepared find thorns instead of roses, but even as tough as a trip into the
wild is, the pros can be worth the cons. Many venture into camping with no wary thoughts about
the dangers it brings; the wildlife, environment, weather, and location can instantaneously alter
your seemingly perfect trip. Surprisingly, these problems can be avoided, but only through
careful planning. Planning a camping trip revolves around: climate, location, and environment.
For example, I would like to discuss three different places you can camp: Arizona, Colorado, and
Alaska. To begin with, choosing a season like spring, summer or fall can greatly alter the
temperature, and also determines the amount of rain you will experience. Because of its limited
rainfall, Arizona is an extremely dry, arid state. If you arrange to camp there, you would need
tools and nutrients fitted for a desert like landscape. One of the more important items is water,
without it you would be helpless; water is important no matter where you are, whether a barren
desert, or bitter arctic wasteland. There is no doubt, In the Arizona desert; temperatures of over
125 degrees Fahrenheit have occurred, yet the average in July and August is commonly found to be
around 104 to 107 degrees. Despite the sweltering temperatures, at night the temperatures lower
from approximately 81 to 84 degrees. The next

Communication Skills For Effective Communication
Criteria:
Based on your examples from each principle of effective communication (General, Interpersonal
and Written), describe the potential barriers (problems) to effective communication in the
presentation, as well. Remember to state the problem and then how this can affect communication.
Introduction
I am going to describe how communication skills are used effectively in the presentation.
General Communication Skills
General communication skills are a way of expression or exchanging ideas and thoughts between
people. We can use the different techniques of communication skills such as cultural differences,
adapting to audience, format of the language, accuracy of the related topic, engaging an audience
and be aware of the time zone. All these skills should be properly used between each others.
Cultural differences
It is known that cultural differences exist between people with different national traditions,
languages and religions. People may behave according to their own beliefs and this may look
unusual. People may misunderstand each other. For example Scottish and English have different
accents. The words are pronounced with a different dialect.
Other countries may have to use different meanings of the same hand gestures during the
presentation. For example same hand gestures can have a lot of different meaning in countries as
United States of America means OK, Japan means money, Russia means zero and in Brazil you can
insult someone.

Jackie Robison vs Ali Essay
Jack Roosevelt Jackie Robinson
Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr Muhammad Ali
Muhammad Ali once said, Hating people because of their color is wrong. And it doesn t matter
which color does the hating. It s just plain wrong. Muhammad Ali stood for the common black
man, so did Jackie Robinson. Both of these men were professional athletes, two different sports,
baseball and boxing, were changed forever because of these men. They both broke segregation
barriers not only in their profession but also outside the field and ring. Both these men had some
similarities but overall had more differences whether it was their profession, who they were
influenced by, or their involvement with war.

While boarding a bus Jackie Robinson had refused to sit in the back, because of this he was ruled
court marshaled. He was token into custody but was found innocent by President Truman. While
Martin Luther King Jr did not support the war, Jackie Robinson did, he wrote to President Johnson
to let him know that he has the support of Jackie Robinson and many other African Americans.
Jackie Robinson was in full support of the war, but Muhammad Aliwas not, in fact Muhammad Ali
refused to go to war in 1966, he had failed his qualifying test but was later revised and was
changed into class 1A, which meant he was now eligible for the draft. When he was notified of
the change he declared that he would refuse to serve in the United States Army and publicly
considered himself a conscientious objector, which meant he could not go to war because of his
religious stance. Ali stated that War is against the teachings of the Holy Qur an. I m not trying
to dodge the draft. We are not supposed to take part in no wars unless declared by Allah or The
Messenger. We don t take part in Christian wars or wars of any unbelievers. Ali also famously
said in 1966: I ain t got no quarrel with them Viet Cong ... They never called me nigger. His
refusal of going to war was made into a huge dilemma, it went on to be a supreme court case, Clay

Conformity in The Rocking-Horse Winner by D.H. Lawrence Essay
In The Rocking Horse Winner by D.H. Lawrence, the family was unable to see what they really
had going for them. Corrupted Conformity Many times, people believe that they must achieve a
certain social status within a community due to the need of acceptance, or perhaps, simply the
fear of being rejected. Communities normally demonstrate a positive atmosphere. They are
supposed to be places where everyone knows and is kind to one another; one where people feel
comfortable with each other. Although the idea of community and solidarity is usually something
to be looked at in a positive way, as illustrated in The Rocking Horse Winner , The Lottery , and
The Shining Houses , certain individuals suffer greatly when they are... Show more content on

The uncle concludes the story by saying: But, poor devil, poor devil, he s best gone out of a life
where he rides his rocking horse to find a winner (Lawrence 34). In other words, he was already
a winner, but no one saw that, the mother was blinded because of her greater desire for wealth.
When people are used to something and have done it for so long, they are very reluctant to
change. The Lottery is a perfect example of this. The word lottery in this story is very ironic; it
normally represents a positive aspect, but in this case, whoever wins the lottery, dies. It goes to
show that there is definitely something wrong with the community. The people have been
involved with this so called lottery for years, Listening to the young folks, nothing s good
enough for them...There s always been a lottery (Jackson 5), and believe that without it, they
would have an unsuccessful harvest season. They are so against change, and while most of the
people of the town know that what they are doing is wrong, no one will change it, because it has
been tradition for so long. Consequently, Tessie dies at the end because of people s fear of
change. The third and final story, The Shining Houses , deals with people who are so adamant that
they must live a certain way, the same way as everyone else, and are in opposition to anyone who
decides differently. Mrs. Fullerton is an uncomplicated old woman. Her husbands absence

The North Shore Animal League
I ve created a campaign for the North Shore Animal League and it will be based on animal rights.
The goal I want my message to achieve is how it s not acceptable for animals to be abused and
abandoned. I ve chosen animal rights as my issue because upon growing up in Brooklyn I ve
encountered many dogs who were abused by their owners and were able to get away with it which
really upset me. A propagandacampaign is needed to raise public awareness for the animals that
are abused and homeless in hopes of people having a heart and adopting them. The North Shore
Animal League will first discuss animal rights and how animal abuse and homelessness is at an
all time high today among animals. There will also be various pictures and statistics shown to
offer the audience insight on which dog and cat breeds are the most abused and homeless. For
example, due to their small size and temperament with people Chihuahuas are among one of the
most abused and homeless dog breeds. The organization will then discuss their plan to remedy
the issue of animal abuse and homelessness by opening up animal shelters in urban areas in
Staten Island and Brooklyn to lower animal abuse and homelessness. These shelters will provide
the animal s food, water, and medicine, which are the main necessities for them to survive. By
opening these new shelters, it will ensure the animal s safety and well being until people are ready
to adopt and bring them home. Twitter and WordPress are the two types of

The Age Of Faith In The Middle Ages
The Middle Ages came right after the fall of the Roman Empire because of its lack of centralized
religion and its inability to deal with the raids of the nomadic and germanic tribes. Compared to all
the revolutionary advancements of the Roman Empire, many considered the Middle Ages to be a
big step back in lifestyle, education and technological advancements. The The Middle Ageshave
been defined as many things. It has been called the Age of Feudalism, The Golden Age, and the
Dark Ages. However, the Age of Faith is a more accurate title, because during the Middle Ages the
church was the main source of unity in Europe, the church was viewed as the most important and
powerful part of Europe, even more powerful than the kings and governments, and finally the Age
is Faith is a more accurate title because people followed the church no matter what, even through
situations as extreme as the Crusades.
The first reason The Age of Faith is the most accurate title is that during the Middle Ages the
church was the main source of unity in Europe. For example the chart of a manor during the
Middle Ages shows that a chapel was the only thing that every single manor had (Document 2). A
chapel was the one thing that connected every manor. Also according to the excerpt from the
museum The Roman Catholic Church was the single most unifying structure in Europe. It touched
everyone s life, no matter what their rank or class was or where they lived (Document 3). This
shows another example of

Into Neytiri
James Cameron once said Imagination is a force that can actually manifest a reality . This is
something James made true with the movie Avatar . He spent an abundance of time carefully
crafting each of his important characters for a specific reason. The movie Avatar has certain themes
that James Cameron wants to get the audience to see, and he uses the characters to bring the themes
trough. Neytiri is one of those characters so essential to the development of the story. Mr. Cameron
made Neytiri a dynamic, motivated, and major character. Neytiri is a dynamic character through the

A book says that Motivation is what animates a story and justifies that behavior of each character
. James made Neytiri a single minded character so she would be the type of person to teach Jake
if it meant helping her family. A big motivation for Neytrir is her family which she would do
anything for wether they asked her or not. That is the type of motivation the movie needed to
help give it a fire of passion that she brings to the plot. Something else Neytiri did because of her
determination is go on with out her father after he was struck by home tree as it was coming
down. Although she was sick with gref over her father she took the bow from him like she asked
and carried on for her people because rthat is what they neede from there princess in that

knew the audience would be in awe to her dedication to her people and her love for everything

The Pros And Cons Of Canadian Culture
To start with, China, which scores 80 on IDX, ranks higher than Canada by 41 points. This
highlights the fact that the society views inequalities among people as a normal thing and the
subordinate superior relationship tends to be polarized which leaves no space for defense
against power abuse. Rigid hierarchy with formal authority influence individuals, and they
believe in the capacity to lead and control of their own leaders. It is a society in which people are
expected to stay at exactly where they are placed. In contrast, Canadian culture believe that
everyone should receive equal rights and be treated equally. Similar to countries that score low
on this aspect, Canadians build their hierarchy for convenience. Managers are approachable, and
are expected to consult and exchange information with their staff members as they work as a
team. Straightforward exchange of information is also preferred. In terms of individualism
(IDV), Canadian culture is considered as an individualist one in which people look after
themselves and their immediate families. For that reason, self reliance and initiatives are vital in
the workforce. Hiring and promotion decisions are primarily based on one s merit and
competence. On the other hand, scoring very low on this dimension, it can be said that China is a
highly collectivist culture where people focus on group interest rather than self interest. Hiring and
promotion decisions can be based on how close an individual is to the superior

Arizona Statehood and Constitution
Part I: Arizona Statehood It is quite a remarkable journey that Arizona embarked upon to make it
the forty eight state of the United States of America. On February 14, 2012 it became an integral
part of this new found world of democracy and freedom. Along with its vast cultures and heated
temperatures, the architectural design of the city is a pure reflection of the inhabitants who were
established here before to make it their own homeland. This essay will examine the road to
statehood and analyze the events to make Arizona become a state.

because the need for access to the Pacific Ocean for trading. In 1848, the Treaty of Guadalupe
was signed. For 15 million, Mexico ceded more than one third of its territory and the U.S.
acquired all of Arizona north of the Gila River (McClory, 2001). Unfortunately, southern Arizona
still was in control by Mexico, which included Tucson. Arizona and New Mexico became one
territory called the Territory of New Mexico. Soon after, the United States paid another 10 million
for 30,000 square miles of the Mexican territory that included Tucson. Congress thought the
purchase was meaningless because it was just desert land. The Gadsden Purchase gave the final
boundary that Arizona has today. In 1860, along with the constitution, a governor and other elected
officials were established. That was unfortunately short lived because of the Civil War. In 1862,
Union troops entered the state and placed it under martial rule, this action further delayed Arizona s
official admission as a state (McClory, 2011).
The Territorial Period Congress finally pushed for Arizona to have separate territorial status
because of the discovery of precious metals. On February, 24, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln
signed the Organic Act, which officially created Arizona s territory (McClory, 2001). The first
official governor, John Goodwin, took the oath of office on December 29, 1863. Prescott became

Customer Service Tips
I am standing in a crowded grocery store where every register is packed, and I have just spent
the last hour bagging five cartfuls of groceries. The groceries are bagged and placed into the
customer s car, and then I wait for the tip. The customer walks up, says Thank you, and drives
away. Now all that is left for me to do is walk right back into the store and hope for better next
time. This is a common scene I go through working in a DECA Commissary where the baggers
work for tips only. Tips are a common method of pay in the service industry to compensate
employees partially or in full for their services. Tips may be common, but this does not mean they
are fair. Tips can be an immensely unfair system which allows a business to cut corners... Show
more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this is not always true; a customer s discrimination or unwillingness to tip can
counteract any good impression an employee may make. A customer s tip will often be
determined by how much they like an employee rather than the quality of their work. Tips may
even be influenced by the worker s appearance and the customer s personal prejudices. In
addition, since tipping is not required, many people will not tip, no matter how good the service
is. All of this means hard work may not ensure decent pay. Instead, a business should give an
employee a raise for good performance which is likely to amount to more than tips would.
Supporters also sometimes claim that more money can be made through tips than a business
would otherwise pay. In practice, however, I have rarely seen this happen. A good day of tips at
the commissary is not enough to make up for several poor days and almost never brings my
average pay for a week to more than minimum wage.
Tips are still a common method of payment, but certainly not a good one. The flaws of tipping
include being undependable, allowing customers to discriminate, and falling short of a minimum
wage. It would be far better for these workers to be paid a fair living

Manifest Destiny Symbolism
Manifest Destiny was an idea expressed during west ward expansion. It was the belief that God
ordained that Americans must travel from coast to coast. Americans were also supposed to share
their light to the primitive natives. Natives in the photo are showed in the darker side of the
painting. They are fleeing from the giant angel heading towards them. The angel in the middle of
the painting carrying a book and telegraph wires to insinuate their intellectual dominance. The
painting tries to show how in the early to mid 19th century Americans believed God is always on
their side and justifies everything they do from taking land to racism. In the painting, the big angel
stands out at the center intending to portray God s support of western expansion. This is done by
putting the angel smack in the center and having multiple shapes draw the eye to it. For example,
the mountain range in the background of the photo makes a triangle that has the angel where the
summit of the mountain should be. Also, the angel is carrying telegraph lines which make the
observer look at the angel. The angel is facing west towards unconquered land and seems to almost
be pointing towards that land. That land is also in the dark. Behind the angle is bright lightwhich
draws the eye. The angel is bringing light to the land it touches. This light is the light of
knowledge and God s blessing, which comes from the background of the painting. Manifest mean
holy or divine. Therefore, God is the reason

  • 2. Are Monopolies Necessarily Less Efficient Than Perfect... This essay will look at efficiency between both a monopoly and a perfect competition, and whether a monopoly is necessarily less efficient than perfect competition. Using diagrams and equations reflecting the optimal choice of output, marginal revenue and marginal cost for monopolies, I will explain how efficiency is affected by low levels of production. At the same time monopolies can increase efficiency due to their ability in price discrimination, they price people differently and therefore people pay what they truly believe the good is worth. There needs to be a clear description of the differences between monopolyand perfect competition as well as efficiency; an analysis of deadweight loss and natural monopoly is also important... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Snyder and Nicholson describe Pareto efficient allocation as an allocation of resources, where it is not possible through further reallocations to make one person better off without making someone else worse off (Snyder and Nicholson, 2005, p.467). Varian further explains that a competitive industry operates where price equals marginal cost, while a monopolised industry operates where price is greater than marginal cost; therefore a higher price creates a lower output (Varian, 1996, p.411 412). [pic] From the diagram above we can see that if we get the firm to behave as a competitor and take the market price as being set exogenously. Then we would have (Pc, Yc) for competitive price and output. If the firm recognised its influence on the market price and chose its level of output so as to maximise profits, we would see monopoly price and output (Pm, Ym). Since P(y) is greater than MC(y) for all the output levels between Ym and Yc, there is a whole range of output where people are willing to pay more for a unit of output than it costs to produce it. Clearly there is potential for Pareto improvement (Varian, 1996, p.412 413). A measure of efficiency can be produced by analysing the total surplus for a given market; this is seen by subtracting the total cost from gross consumption benefits. The higher the level of total surplus the more efficient production ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Murder And A Meal Lab Report Essay Garrett Stewart Mr. Dinunzio Honors Biology 22 November 2016 Murder and a Meal Lab Report The purpose of this lab was to test different substances using various procedures to see what biomolecules were present and ultimately find out what restaurant Anna Lyza had eaten at before she died. For the first control test, we used vegetable oil to test for lipids. So, if the solution does not contain lipids, it does not become translucent when placed onto a paper bag square and held up to a light. So, it is a negative result. However, in the presence of lipids, the solution will become translucent when placed onto a paper bag square and held up to a light. Therefore in this case, the result is positive. On the other hand, we used albumin egg to test for proteins in another control test. If the solution does not contain proteins, it will not experience any color change and so it is a negative result. When there are proteins existing in the solution, it will turn bluish/purplish and for this reason it is a positive result. Furthermore in the third control test, we used dextrose to test for simple carbohydrates such as glucose. If the solution does not contain simple carbohydrates, it will not undergo any color change and will remain a blue color. So, it is a negative result in this circumstance. If there are simple carbohydrates present in the solution, the solution will turn reddish and so the result is positive. For the last control test, we used starch solution to test ... Many great films and works of literature were created to show case all the different ideas people have for their American Dream. • 6. Arthurian Legend Arthurian Legend, group of tales in several languages that concern the legendary King Arthur of the Britons, his realm, and the knights of his inner circle. The legend is one of the most enduring tales in recorded history. It first appeared in the 5th or 6th century ad and took its basic form between the 12th and 15th centuries. It continues as a popular subject in modern times. The legend presents Arthur as a leader in ancient times who defeats the Saxons and other enemies. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... | | | As Arthur fathers an illegitimate son, so too does Lancelot, although he does so while under a spell that makes him think the woman (named Elaine) is actually Guinevere. Lancelot s son, Galahad, is entirely free of sin and weakness, and thus he alone is ultimately qualified to complete the quest and find the Holy Grail. (Sir Bors and Sir Percival accompany him, but they are excluded from the final holy vision that appears to Galahad as he reaches the Grail.) Once the quest is ended, peace does not last, and eventually Arthur s armies are embroiled in new wars, including one with the Romans, who demand tribute from Arthur and provoke a battle. Not all the conflicts involve foreign enemies, however. When Arthur discovers Lancelot and Guinevere s love affair, his system of justice requires that Guinevere be arrested and condemned to death. Lancelot flees but then returns to rescue her. During the ensuing battle, Lancelot kills the brothers of Sir Gawain, who remain loyal to Arthur. As a consequence, Gawain and Lancelot, formerly the closest of friends, become enemies. Arthur s absence from court while battling the Romans and pursuing Lancelot offers Mordred the opportunity to seize the throne. Since Kanye named his album The College Dropout , he frequently inquiries the significance of going to college. The title of his debut album actually tells us a story of everything that he was going through at the time. Several individuals go to college because it s a safe way to partake if you don t have anything planned after you have graduated from high school. Great parents will tell their children to go to college because it would be a backup plan if they didn t do anything else with their career. If plan A doesn t work, you always have plan B to back you up right after. A lot of people will most likely assume they ll get a very nice profession after college but it usually doesn t end up that way. People just end up working with jobs that have nothing to do with their careers because it would be so hard to find one with their studies and some people just don t have a job right after. • 10. The Perfect Concept Of Beauty In Edvard Munch s The Scream As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, Love of beauty is taste. The creation of beauty is art. Therefore, does that mean that all art is supposed to be beautiful? During the time of the Renaissance, the objective of beauty is vastly different compared to modern beauty. Even so, the ideal concept of beauty for women during the Renaissance era was to be nothing more than sensual. Women in paintings during the modern time are genuinely petite. That is what most would consider beautiful and all women strive to be in order to one day wife a wealthy man. The painting called The Scream, is a piece of art that could debatably be considered beautiful. Thus, what really determines if art is truly beautiful? Edvard Munch s 1893 modern art painting called The Scream is one of the most famous paintings of all time. Edvard Munch s painting is famous for its bountiful colors, the effulgent sky, and not to mention the individual screaming in anguish all alone on the never before seen, dock. Like Vincent Van Gogh, Edvard Munch went through his life struggling with anxiety and ultimately insanity. The painter was not only troubled with this disorder through his own ways, but also witnessed his mentally ill sister be hospitalized around the same time as the magnificent painting was made. With this information, Edvard Munch created The Scream as an autobiographical picture. The painting is considered to be an expressionistic construction of Munch s real life experience of a horrific scream ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The ideas were primarily fabricated in the very beginning of our country. The propagandist role of any medium has changed just as much as the times have since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In contemporary America, film is the leading component of the propagation and detraction of the American dream. The film The Pursuit of Happyness (2005) supports the idea of the American dream our founding fathers set out. This combined with the tenacity or determination of the American people to be treated equally truly defines what the American dream is. Propaganda of the American dream in the earlier parts of our country was promoted through the ideas of our government and the known ability to be free. This eventually evolved into propaganda by entertainment such as posters, newspapers, film and anything that would reflect on a large audience . In this day in time, we get most of our propaganda through television. The cause of this is the increase in popularity of watching television or films over reading books. If this were not happening people may get their view of the American dream through literature ranging from the autobiography of Benjamin Franklin to Mark Twain s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn , which promote the American Dream as it was intended. When a person compares how information was obtained and current issues were discussed prior to this century they come to find that the contrast between now and then is so outstanding. It s completely clear why many people aren t aware of what has been happening. The amount of awe Gene possesses for Finny is incredible, and the pin point analyzation of him is notable. It is also important to identify the literary rebirth motif used towards the beginning of the book: Phineas, still asleep on his dune, made me think of Lazarus, brought back to life by the touch of God (50) Finny is seen as entirely new person to Gene in a change of feelings. Where there is perfection, blunder is just as likely to occur. Gene and Finny have a bizarre reliance on eachother. Knowles makes it very clear their seemingly unbreakable bond. • 30. Emotions in Negotiations We negotiate every day for different purposes, and each day we experience emotions, both positive and negative. When negotiating, formally or informally, with family or in the organizational workplace we often do not know how to handle ourselves, yet alone the emotions of the other person or group. As educated people, we often try to ignore the influence of emotions on decision making. Neuroscience evidence now shows that sound and rational decision making is contingent on prior accurate emotional processing. The basis for this is the somatic marker hypothesis. The somatic marker hypothesis provides a systems level neuroanatomical and cognitive framework for decision making, the impact, and influence on it by emotions. The key idea of this hypothesis is that decision making is a process that is influenced by marker signals that arise in bio regulatory processes, which includes those that express themselves in emotions and feelings. This influence can occur at multiple levels of operation, some of which occur consciously and some of which occur non consciously (Bechara Damasio, 2000). Essentially, somatic markers are associations of stimuli that induce an associated physiological affective state. We may feel embarrassed; have muscle contractions, experience a heart rate increase, endocrine release, posture, and facial expression changes. These are all a result of somatic marker interpretation. The physiological change occurs in the brain and is relayed to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Ancient Penguin Discoveries and Evolution Essay Ancient Penguin Discoveries and Evolution In a recent BBC News article, Ivan Noble discusses the possibility that ancient penguins may hold the key to unlocking the mysteries behind the complicated molecular clock of evolution. Although a seemingly unlikely animal to research, prehistoric penguin remains in the Antarctic often have been the basis for study, research, as well as debate in the modern science world. Because the prehistoric relatives of the cute and cuddly modern day birds have colonies that are characterized by high densities and high mortality , large deposits of the subfossil bones have been serially preserved in the cold Antarctic environment (Lambert Ritchie), making the animals prime candidates for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The distinctive mutations, which are thought to occur at a steady rate (Noble), can then be traced, tracked, and recorded in the fossil record. Determining the age of the remains proved critical in the discovery. In this study, ancient penguin guano (an accumulation of dung) was radio carbon dated to ensure accurate sequencing. Ages also were assigned to nucleotide sequences from bones, either because the bones themselves were directly dated or strata from which they were isolated were dated (Lambert Ritchie). The radiocarbon ages of AdГ©lie penguin bones demonstrate that both mitochondrial lineages were present at least 6082 years ago, and possibly as far back as 8000 years ago. Surprisingly, it is not the fossils themselves, or even the fossils old age, that makes the discovery unique. The DNA samples from these bones, however, offer valuable insight into the same molecular clock that scientists use to investigate the evolutionary history of animals. Because the ancient DNA extracted from the frozen AdГ©lie penguin bones was of high quality (Lambert Ritchie), scientists were able to analyze any and all major splits between the two discovered lineages. By comparing the DNA of ancient bone samples to samples from modern day living animals, researchers constructed median networks in order to display relationships ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I would use this speech to inform someone about the history of North Carolina during the civil right movement. I would take this speech to persuade someone to take a stand for their community. Just like Dr.Blank stated, we have to struggle in order to get what we want in society. I would describe this speech to a NCSU student about how it relates to public speaking through the vocal deliver. In order for someone to rally with you and believe what you are talking about you have to have a confident vocal deliver. Dr.Blank deliver is vocal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Pros And Cons Of Canadian Culture To start with, China, which scores 80 on IDX, ranks higher than Canada by 41 points. This highlights the fact that the society views inequalities among people as a normal thing and the subordinate superior relationship tends to be polarized which leaves no space for defense against power abuse. Rigid hierarchy with formal authority influence individuals, and they believe in the capacity to lead and control of their own leaders. It is a society in which people are expected to stay at exactly where they are placed. In contrast, Canadian culture believe that everyone should receive equal rights and be treated equally. Similar to countries that score low on this aspect, Canadians build their hierarchy for convenience. Managers are approachable, and are expected to consult and exchange information with their staff members as they work as a team. Straightforward exchange of information is also preferred. In terms of individualism (IDV), Canadian culture is considered as an individualist one in which people look after themselves and their immediate families. For that reason, self reliance and initiatives are vital in the workforce. Hiring and promotion decisions are primarily based on one s merit and competence. On the other hand, scoring very low on this dimension, it can be said that China is a highly collectivist culture where people focus on group interest rather than self interest. Hiring and promotion decisions can be based on how close an individual is to the superior ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On Arizona Statehood Running head: Arizona Arizona Statehood and Constitution Monica Williams Grand Canyon University: POS 301 November 20, 2011 Arizona Statehood and Constitution Part I: Arizona Statehood It is quite a remarkable journey that Arizona embarked upon to make it the forty eight state of the United States of America. On February 14, 2012 it became an integral part of this new found world of democracy and freedom. Along with its vast cultures and heated temperatures, the architectural design of the city is a pure reflection of the inhabitants who were established here before to make it their own homeland. This essay will examine the road to statehood and analyze the events to make Arizona become a state. The Preterritorial Period ... For 15 million, Mexico ceded more than one third of its territory and the U.S. acquired all of Arizona north of the Gila River (McClory, 2001). Unfortunately, southern Arizona still was in control by Mexico, which included Tucson. Arizona and New Mexico became one territory called the Territory of New Mexico. Soon after, the United States paid another 10 million for 30,000 square miles of the Mexican territory that included Tucson. Congress thought the purchase was meaningless because it was just desert land. The Gadsden Purchase gave the final boundary that Arizona has today. In 1860, along with the constitution, a governor and other elected officials were established. That was unfortunately short lived because of the Civil War. In 1862, Union troops entered the state and placed it under martial rule, this action further delayed Arizona s official admission as a state (McClory, 2011). The Territorial Period Congress finally pushed for Arizona to have separate territorial status because of the discovery of precious metals. On February, 24, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Organic Act, which officially created Arizona s territory (McClory, 2001). The first official governor, John Goodwin, took the oath of office on December 29, 1863. Prescott became the capital in 1864, then to Tucson (1867), then back to Prescott ... • 49. Customer Service Tips I am standing in a crowded grocery store where every register is packed, and I have just spent the last hour bagging five cartfuls of groceries. The groceries are bagged and placed into the customer s car, and then I wait for the tip. The customer walks up, says Thank you, and drives away. Now all that is left for me to do is walk right back into the store and hope for better next time. This is a common scene I go through working in a DECA Commissary where the baggers work for tips only. Tips are a common method of pay in the service industry to compensate employees partially or in full for their services. Tips may be common, but this does not mean they are fair. Tips can be an immensely unfair system which allows a business to cut corners... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this is not always true; a customer s discrimination or unwillingness to tip can counteract any good impression an employee may make. A customer s tip will often be determined by how much they like an employee rather than the quality of their work. Tips may even be influenced by the worker s appearance and the customer s personal prejudices. In addition, since tipping is not required, many people will not tip, no matter how good the service is. All of this means hard work may not ensure decent pay. Instead, a business should give an employee a raise for good performance which is likely to amount to more than tips would. Supporters also sometimes claim that more money can be made through tips than a business would otherwise pay. In practice, however, I have rarely seen this happen. A good day of tips at the commissary is not enough to make up for several poor days and almost never brings my average pay for a week to more than minimum wage. Tips are still a common method of payment, but certainly not a good one. The flaws of tipping include being undependable, allowing customers to discriminate, and falling short of a minimum wage. It would be far better for these workers to be paid a fair living ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Manifest Destiny Symbolism Manifest Destiny was an idea expressed during west ward expansion. It was the belief that God ordained that Americans must travel from coast to coast. Americans were also supposed to share their light to the primitive natives. Natives in the photo are showed in the darker side of the painting. They are fleeing from the giant angel heading towards them. The angel in the middle of the painting carrying a book and telegraph wires to insinuate their intellectual dominance. The painting tries to show how in the early to mid 19th century Americans believed God is always on their side and justifies everything they do from taking land to racism. In the painting, the big angel stands out at the center intending to portray God s support of western expansion. This is done by putting the angel smack in the center and having multiple shapes draw the eye to it. For example, the mountain range in the background of the photo makes a triangle that has the angel where the summit of the mountain should be. Also, the angel is carrying telegraph lines which make the observer look at the angel. The angel is facing west towards unconquered land and seems to almost be pointing towards that land. That land is also in the dark. Behind the angle is bright lightwhich draws the eye. The angel is bringing light to the land it touches. This light is the light of knowledge and God s blessing, which comes from the background of the painting. Manifest mean holy or divine. Therefore, God is the reason ...
