Orlando Furioso And Medieval Romance
The authors aimed at different purpose. This, alone, forced the difference in handling the poetic
matter. If Orlando Furioso can be categorised as Epic Romance, Spenser s The Faerie Queene, here
particularly Book 1, would be the Medieval Romance the one with a quest centered narrative. But
what is really the difference? First of all, the central theme. In Orlando Furioso, whatever the
significance of individual duels, monster fights, and larger battles, the driving force of the poem is
love and passion, notably, Orlando s love and passion as the title itself suggests. To add to the
complexity of the poem, Ariosto made it rich in plots, sub plots, and sub sub plots. It seems as if the
poem s chief aim was to entertain. The Faerie Queene ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No historical event is introduced. Moreover, Spenser chose to set his poem in a Faerie Land with no
apparent geographical boundries and no specific historical event in the background. One may argue
though, that the Faerie Land is indeed Britain ruled by Great Lady of the greatest Isle , that is,
Elizabeth Tudor. It is true as far as it goes, since poem is highly allegorical from top to bottom.
This fundamental difference between the two poems becomes even more apparent as the reader
progresses through the books. The first book of The Faerie Queene is character centered, that is, we
barely abandon the protagonists (Redcrosse and Una) throughout the book. Brief sub plots only
complement the Quest outlined in the first stanzas of canto 1. This narration is cumulative.
Aditionally, Spenser cherishes every moment and episode of his poem. He carefully ennumerates the
trees, he suspends the action in order to describe the monster Error that appears early in the path of
Redcrosse and Una. At the same time he makes use of adjectives so as not to leave us any doubts as to
his attitude to it: ... he [Redcrosse] saw the ugly monster plaine, Halfe like a serpent horribly

##m And Discrimination In Gloria Naylor s Black Men And...
Racism and discrimination towards those of African descent can be hard topics to discuss, especially
since America still experiences the discriminatory effects of slavery. The history and fundamentals of
slavery has created a rift between whites and blacks that is seemingly impossible to overcome. There
has been and will be lasting social effects including racial slurs and misconceptions based on how the
world views African Americans. Brent Staples, in Black Men and Public Space, details his experience
being treated unfairly due to his racial status. Gloria Naylor s Mommy, what does Nigger Mean?
discusses the authors first time being called the N word, how she felt, and how she asked her mom
about what it meant. Brent Staples Black Men and Public Space , and Gloria Naylor s Mommy, what
does Nigger Mean? are similar through the authors accounts of being treated poorly because of their
African descent along with ways to cope with that oppression, and contrast through their tone in the
intro and through there experience of being discriminated against and overall effect on the reader.
Both authors explore examples in which they are treated in a racist or discriminatory manner. Brent
Staples encountered a younger woman and came upon her late one evening on a deserted street... she
cast back a worried glance... picked up her pace and was soon running in earnest. (Staples 1) Just the
mere sight of him made the woman scared, after this experience he feels surprised, embarrassed, and
dismayed all at once. Her flight made me feel like an accomplice in tyranny. (2) He realizes that he is
indistinguishable from the muggers... (2), or at least to the woman. Staples experiences, first hand,
discrimination; the woman is fearful of him because of his race, and Staples feels the full effect of
that. Gloria Naylor recounts the first time she was ever called the N word. It was in class and she she
says she couldn t have been more puzzled. She didn t know what a nigger was, but she did know it
was something he shouldn t have called her (Naylor 3). She was thoroughly confused and later asked
her mother what the word meant. Naylor is treated poorly due to the color of her skin. Similarly to
Staples,

Egyptian Religion And Ancient Egypt
Egyptian Religion

Egyptian Religion
Egypt was a very powerful empire lasting more than 3000 years, which is divided into 8 or 9 periods,
sometimes called kingdoms. But what made their empire, so powerful, what made it last more than 3
millennia. Egyptologist believes that it was due to Egypt s strong bond with their gods and goddesses
and their mythological beliefs. The gods and goddesses and the myths were the foundations of Egypt s
cultural structure. The Egyptian gods were vital in the religion and culture of Egypt. The gods were
the explanation for life, death, basically everything about on earth and in our universe. The most
popular gods were Ra, Osiris, Isis, Horus, Seth, and Anubis. Ra was the god of the sun and creation.
He was often depicted as a hawk headed man with a sun disk; he may also be depicted as a scarab
beetle. Osiris is the god of life, death, and the afterlife. Osiris has the appearance of a mummified
Pharaoh; he wore an Atef crown with feathers on the sides, and held a crook and flail, the tools of a
Pharaoh. He had green skin, with meaning rebirth to the Egyptians. Isis was the wife of Osiris, and the
mother of Horus. She was also the goddess of magic, marriage, and healing. She is depicted as a
queen with a sun disk. Horus was the son of Osiris and Isis. Horus is the Egyptian god of the sky. He
became the king of Egypt after fighting his uncle Seth. He is usually depicted as

The Levels Of Hierarchy Of Needs
Motivation is defined as the general desire or willingness of someone to do something. Numerous
incidents occur in our lives where we are motivated and numerous incidents occur where we lack any
motivation. As I am a full time student and not currently working, I chose to write this paper on my
motivation to finish my education and attain a higher level degree in health care. According to
Abraham H. Maslow s Theory, there are five levels of hierarchy of needs. During the first level, we
are dealing with our physiological needs which are the basic needs of survival. I am fortunate enough
to be living a life where I have access to water, food, and shelter. During the second level, we are
dealing with our safety needs. I attain my safety from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Steve Reiss s Theory and idea of status states that status is attained through the desire for prestige. It
also means that a person is very conscious about reputation and how they are viewed by those around
them. I am an Indian who believes in the Indian caste system. The caste system is a class structure that
everyone is born into. In the Indian culture, life is dominated by the caste system. I was born to a
mother and a father who were both born into the upper levels of the caste system. This means that my
parents enjoyed a life of high materialistic value. Those in the upper class also valued the importance
of education because those who had prestigious college degrees were the ones who were highly
respected. This component of my culture has been passed down to me and these are the values that I
live with today. I want to continue to earn the respect of my family and those in the Indian community
by going on to earn my PhD. There are positive and negative components of the Indian caste system,
but it is a custom and a practice that has been followed for centuries. There are many periods in our
lives where we lack motivation. Using Steven Reiss s Theory, and his idea of order, I am able to recall
the multiple times I have lost a sense of motivation. Steven Reiss s Theory and idea of order states that
a person dislikes clutter because they prefer the stability of an

Bullying on School Campuses
| Bullying on School Campuses | |
I. Introduction
Parents are way overprotective these days; getting picked on by tougher kids and hassling weaker ones
is just a part growing up. It is how they learn to deal with the real world. A statement heard by many
people from adults. Unfortunately, this statement is incorrect. Throughout the course of years the US
Department of Justice and Education indicate that more than eighty percent (80%) of public
elementary and secondary schools report experiencing at least one violent incident ranging from
bullying and physical fights to rape and assault with a weapon. (ProQuest Staff) This shows there is a
need for change in society. A parent guardian as well as a student would want to be ... Show more

In fact, on his transcript to his new school the principal stated that he was a class bully. The child too
sick, too scared, too angry to go to school was the one the students classified as the terrorizing one;
not recognizing he was the lonely, helpless one. Why does this sort of thing continue? The apathy of
schools is to blame, mainly, apart from the cruelty of some children to others. III. Impact
We need to teach schools how to deal with bullies and bullying. Students who come to administration
with a concern are not tattle tales. And if you believe they are, that is fine. Also know that police
officers and judges are tattle tales too. In fact, by not saying anything we are condoning the bully s
actions and telling them that it is okay to bully. Students need to know that it is okay to talk to
someone / anyone about being bullied. We need anti bullying restrictions shown more around the
school for an effort to stop bullying in my opinion.
Almost half of public high schools have a problem with bullying, but if you look at our student
discipline/conduct section in the policies for the school there are more disciplinary actions taken for
the usage of a cell phone or being tardy to a class then there is for bullying. In researching this subject,
I never found an article that s linked cell phone usage to suicide brought on by depression. Schools

Characteristics Of Adrian Gore
In the following essay one talks/writes about three forms of leadership, namely: Transformational
from of leadership where the leader maintains a mutual relationship between him/her and the
followers thereof, Charismatic leadership, which gathers followers through the leader s dint of
personality and charm, and Transactional form of leadership which co ordinates procedures of
working together. (Robbins, S.P. (2007) Organisational Behaviour (SA Ed): Global and South African
perspective). A leader is a person who influences a group of people towards the achievement of a goal,
having empowered the very same to reach their full potential in benefiting both sides. ()
The discussion of the above is in relation to the character of Adrian Gore as a leader.
Adrian Gore, born 16 May 1964, is the CEO and founder of Discovery Ltd, which he launched in the
country in 1992 with a core purpose of helping people to get healthier and safer in helping to avoid

These leaders are prominent for two factors, namely contingent reward and management by exception.
Contingent reward is in two ways; being either a reward or punishment. The leader informs its
subordinates what is required of them to do and in what manner it should be done, then presents to
their subordinates what the contingent reward is for a job well done or what the punishment is for the
opposite.
Management by exception is a strict structured way of leading as these are the kind of leaders which
focus on the role of supervision, organization and group performance. Such leaders make the primary
objective of the followers to be obeying the instruction if not the commands. Such leaders trust their
followers to do a good job if not they intervene so to make sure that what is required is correctly

Similarities Between Orwell And The Truman Show
Power, the good life and utopia are all connected, without one you can t have another. But what is
power, the good life and utopia? And how is each of these topics viewed by different people? Peter
Weir; the director of the Truman Show, and George Orwell; the writer of animal farm have almost the
same views on each topic and make that clear in their work. In each of these topics it is clear that Weir
and Orwell are in agreement.
Power is the ability to do something or act in a particular way. But with power comes great
responsibility. In the Truman Show, Weir shows how one person s power can be seen as good by
some, but bad by others. For example, Kristoff thinks that he is using his power over Truman to make
sure he lives the perfect life. Whereas Truman wants to live out his dreams of adventuring and
traveling the world, something that Kristoph does not allow using his power over him. There is a
conflict of interest, and unfortunately for Trueman, Kristoph unfairly has more control over the end
results. Kristoph is in a way responsible with his power although for a different point of view, such as
truman s, it would be seen as irresponsible as well as unsympathetic. Likewise, in Animal Farm,
Orwell tells us how a group s power can be seen as good by some, but bad by others. One example
being the change of rules that the pigs create for the farm, using their power, for their obvious benefit.
While some of the animals go along with the change, other tend to dislike or clash with the idea. The
pigs are not responsible with their overall power over the animals, leading to the destruction of their
original plan of action. In conclusion, both Peter Weir and George Orwell say that where there is
power, there is also conflict of interest and much responsibility alongside it. There is also conflict
when it comes to the perfect world, being utopia.
Utopia is a term given to the concept of a perfect society. Its an imagined place or state of things in
which everything is perfect. Meaning it is not possible in reality. In the Truman Show, Weir shows
how if one is able to, they will create their idea of Utopia, disregarding others needs and wants for
their own. Kristoph created Truman s reality based on his idea of

Causes Of The Malayan Emergency
The Malayan Emergency was a guerrilla war fought in pre and post independence Federation of
Malaya. The main antagonists were the Common Wealth Armed forces on one side and the Malayan
National Liberation Army, and the military arm of the Malayan Communist Party on the other side.
The Common Wealth Forces armed the communist party during their war with the Japanese Army in
the Second World War. The Malayan Emergency was originally the colonial government s term for the
conflict. The rubber plantation and tin mining industries pushed for the use of the term emergency
since their losses would not have been covered by the insurances if they had been termed a war.
During the Malayan Emergency, both the opposition and the Common Wealth Forces had mass
casualties and deaths. In the Malaya Emergency, the Common Wealth Forces applied so many
strategies to defeat their enemies unlike in other wars. Consequently, the applied principles and the
strategies during the war had been plundered by the Western countries. At first, the Common Wealth
Forces used the common ways of dealing the situations. They swept the large areas, captured and
detained in large numbers and, then punished large groups of people. Despite, they could not achieve
so much out of their first move. The outcome of their move led to increase in the insurgent recruitment
by alienating many civilians. The Common Wealth Forces were downcast by the enemies subversion
and the assassination of the Common Wealth

Analysis Of The Powwow At The End Of The World
The Powwow at the End of the World by Sherman Alexie appears to be a modern free verse poem
with varying line length and no end rhyme. It is actually a ceremony to preserve and restore the Native
American land and way of life. The repetition of the beginning of the lines and the strong rhythm
suggest the drumbeat and dance of the apocalyptic powwow, or communal dance of Indians at the end
of the world when all will be put right again. The speaker is an Indian answering the demand for
forgiveness by the audience, who imply the Indians should forget four centuries of the atrocities
committed by European settlers. He speaks in authoritative chant like native rhetoric as though he can
actually do what he says, like a medicine man. The poem in a few lines undoes the effects of modern
civilization, destroying dams and allowing the waters to flow and the salmon to return.
A modern reader might assume that this is wishful thinking, a way to deal psychologically with the
Native American situation in a metaphorical Armageddon, or that the poem is an elaborate putdown
because the conditions for forgiveness will obviously not be met. Instead, it can be read as a ceremony
to make something happen. Native American writers often use traditional ceremony as the basic model
of their poems; that is, the type of speech that enacts something rather than describing or persuading.
Indian tribal ceremonies use formal structures of incantation, song, dance, prayer, visual symbol, and
gesture to restore wholeness to the land and community. The ancient oral traditions of most indigenous
cultures had the purpose to integrate the people with the cosmic forces. Ceremonies were meant to
produce specific results, such as rain or healing, and language was a primary tool. Alexie is using
language to resurrect the dead Indians and their culture at a powwow at the end of the world. If one
understands the ancient use of language, the poem yields a holistic reading of something he wants to
happen now, not later.
The poem says the speaker will only forgive when all the destruction of the land and Indians has been
removed, but he does not wait for the government or for the end of the world. He topples the Grand
Coulee Dam and nuclear reactors

Starbucks case are prioritized from highest to lowest ideas. The criteria used was looking at solving
the key gaps, providing for long term sustainability, positively impacting the company s profitability,
and cost of solution. The top three will be explored in further detail below.
Executive leadership succession management program
Tracking and creating ways to decrease employee turnover
Training on producing quality beverages and customer service
Hiring and selection using person job, person organization match, and realistic and brand approach
Hiring a new regional employee for innovation
Training of youth and undereducated racial and ethnic minorities, women and older workers.
Onboarding program for new hires
Succession planning for key positions (not executive leadership) Executive leadership succession
management program. From this case analysis, the key to the opportunities at Starbuck resulted in not
having a succession management program and the cause of loss to their competitive advantage. This
resulted in poor hiring and training of their partners, decreasing the quality of the beverages prepared,
innovation, and customer service. This solution ranks number one due to its potential to solve all of
the gaps identified and put Starbucks back on its successful path of sustained competitive advantage.

The Reasons for Britain s Relinquishment of Hong Kong
With martial and precision music played, the sovereignty of Hong Kong was returned from Britain to
China officially in a ceremony held on July 1st, 1997. The ceremony symbolized that Hong Kong
moved into a new era that is a dramatic change from capitalist territory to Communist control and in
the meanwhile, the colonial power of Britain in Hong Kong was eventually declared the end. The
purpose of this research paper is to analyze the reasons for the relinquishment of Hong Kong from
three aspects that is historical background, the negotiation between British and Chinese governments
and the results.
Date back to 1800s in China, after the failure of two Opium Wars; Hong Kong entirely became a
colony of Britain according to two unequal treaties that are Treaty of Nanking and Convention of
Peking. As Hong Kong is a colony, it must be resumed over one day. After the foundation of People s
Republic of China, PRC needed to build up diplomatic development and this historical issue was
brought to the table. Although the relinquishment issue was complicated and the negotiation between
British and Chinese governments was back and forth, it was well solved in 1984 by signing Sino
British Joint Declaration. The declaration stated that Hong Kong must be handed over with effect from
July 1st, 1997; moreover, both two countries agreed on one country, two systems this suggestive
political principle. On July 1st, 1997, Hong Kong was returned to China and the success of the

Sensory loss 1.1 There are many different facts that can have an impact on people with sensory loss.
Communication and awarness can play big roles in the impact. They may find it difficult to feed

They may also feel scared and alone due to this. There can be positive factors that can help out the
person such as,increased help, aids for support and a good support team could give them a brighter

about your meanings and directions. Also a noisy environment can make it difficult for them to

The Ingenious Gentleman, Don Quixote de la Mancha was written by Miguel de Cervantes in 1605.
He was eighty five years old. The book quickly gained esteem, and as Cervantes jokingly predicted in

The Horizon Oil Rig Explosion
The 2010 Horizon Oil Rig Explosion
On April 20th, 2010 an explosion occurred that would be considered one of the worst oil spills in U.S.
history. The explosion was cause by a surge of natural gas that made it way to the Horizon rig s
platform that ignited. This caused the rig to capsize and sink, thus breaking risers that were being use
to counter act the large amount of pressure from oil and natural gasses (Pallardy, 2015). The explosion
killed 11 workers and injured 17 others. The explosion caused a massibe leak in the oil wellhead. It
took 87 days for the wellhead to be closed and it is estimated that over that time around 210 million
gallons of oil leaked into the gulf (Gulf Oil Spill, 2011). BP workers tried to activate a blowout
prevent that was part of the Horizon rig s design. This mechanism was supposed to close off any way
to draw out oil bu the mechanism malfunctioned due to the pressure form the gas and oil that cause the
explosion (Pallardy, 2015). The explosion happened a few miles from the Loop Current which is a
large current of warm water in the Gulf that covers a massive amount of distance making it easy from
the oil to spread (Treudaburg Gramling, 2010). Over the next couple of months they tried a variety of
different caps to try to stem the flow of oil but they were generally unsuccessful and oil still leaked
through. It wasn t until July that the flow was finally stopped by a functional blowout preventer cap
(Pallardy, 2015).

Palestine has a right, under international and natural law, to self determination under the borders
which existed prior to Israel s formation in 1948. The natural governing authority of the new
Palestinian State to be formed within these borders is the Palestinian Authority (PLO) currently led by
Mahmoud Abbas. Given that land was stolen from Palestinian natural sovereignty via actions taken by
Israel in wars which Palestine proper was not a participant to, Israel must also pay reparations to the
Palestinian State as well as its citizens so as to compensate for the crimes against humanity which it
has committed over the course of the last several decades. Cemented by the renunciation of violence

The theme, fate vs. free will, occurs multiple times in A Midsummer Night s Dream. Fate vs. free will,
occurs in Acts, One, Two, Three, Four, and Five. Shakespeare uses the magic of fairies, or character to
influence situations and people. The fairies take away free will on multiple occasions, which creates
conflict or a comical tone during scenes. Few occurrences of free will take place in A Midsummer

which resulted in Titania loving Bottom. Furthermore, Bottom was changed into a donkey by Puck.
The lines, I see their knavery: this is to make an ass of me; to fright me, if they could (3.1, 119 20,
Shakespeare), allow the reader to know Bottom has the head of a donkey. In Scene Two, Hermia,
Helena, Lysander, and Demetrius have conflict. In the lines, Now she holds me not; Now follow, if

Lysander begins to argue with Demetrius about Helena. Lysander s loss of free will results in conflict.
In the lines, I will not trust you, I, nor longer stay in your curst company. Your hands than mine are
quicker for a fray, my legs are longer though, to run away (3.2, 341 44, Shakespeare), Helena is

When Looking At A Primary Source, The Analyzer Must Take
When looking at a primary source, the analyzer must take into consideration several components that
can help him or her narrow down their inferences about the source. The first thing to analyze in depth
is the Authorship. This means to look specifically at the topics addressed and the natural biases that
are relevant in the work. The tone in the subject matter is also important to see how strongly the
source may show content or resent towards a specific topic. Even certain writing styles can help
decipher an era, culture or even an individual. The specific word syntax leads to how an analyzer
would discover the purpose or rationale for the primary source. Purpose and rationale are huge parts of
understanding a source and the time period ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Obviously looking at this, the topic is based around religion or its roots are based in religion. Naturally
there is a desire to find out which religion. Now previously there are references to God and Christ, so
the author must be some denomination of Catholicism but in the fourth article the author says rights
should be exercised in a Christian and brotherly fashion . The author is very religious and now there is
clear evidence that he is a Christian. This along with all of the authors religious vocabulary helps
define the author as a very religious human. The author uses the nature of religion to mediate the issue
at hand. The issue is not religion because in the third article the author exclaims Christ has delivered
and redeemed us all . Although religion is strongly talked about it is not the dissenting issue because
the author sees that who the author is dissenting from is still the son of the same God. The issue lies in
a power struggle, mainly an economic one. In the same article the author says it is consistent with
Scripture that we should be free and wish to be so. Not that we would wish to be absolutely free and
under no authority . The Author is using religion to back the ideology of freedom. The Author clearly
is talking about authority overstepping its boundaries. The author constantly uses the term poor man
and when to referring to the poor man the author uses words such

Ptolemy s Life And Accomplishments
Ptolemy was an Egyptian astronomer, mathematician, and geographer of Greek descent who
flourished in Alexandria during the 2nd century. Ptolemy was born c. 100 CE and died c. 170 CE. He
was born in Alexandria, Egypt. There aren t many resources that can say or that know a lot about
Ptolemy s personal life. There are no indications that he was married. Ptolemy was focused more on
his career. In several fields, his writings represent the culminating achievement of Greco Roman
science, particularly his geocentric model of the universe. This is now known as the Ptolemaic system.

The class that I take is called Algebra II. I don t believe that it is that hard. It is unbelievable how
much mathematics has an impact on my life. I love mathematics. I am not the best at it but it is one of
my favorite subject. Some people don t realize how important mathematics can be in life. You will
need mathematics for a lot of things. When you go to college, a lot of the courses require mathematics.
Yes, it can be hard but it is worth it. Sometimes you have to push through the hard things and make it
through life. Trigonometry developed from a need to compute angles and distances in such fields as
astronomy, mapmaking, surveying, and artillery range finding. Problems involving angles and
distances in one plane are covered in plane trigonometry. Applications to similar problems in more
than one plane of three dimensional space are considered in spherical trigonometry. Even though
Ptolemy didn t have much information about his family or personal life, there was a lot of information
about his career. As you can tell, Ptolemy was very focused on his work. That isn t a bad thing. He got
a lot of things accomplished. He did a lot more than people who had a lot of family and friends.
Ptolemy thought it was better to focus on his career rather than focus on other things. He put his mind
to what he was doing. I believe that you can do anything that you put your heart, soul, and mind to.

Terraria Vs Minecraft Research Paper
Minecraft and Terraria are top selling sandbox games that are slightly similar to each other, but since
their release, gamers have been arguing which one is better. Minecraft is better because of its
reliability, massive multiplayer system, and its ingenious difficulty and game modes. First of all,
Minecraft has infinite replayability, each world you create is randomly generated and infinite, leaving
so much to explore. In the game, you can also visit The Nether infested with Zombie pigmen and

Four game modes can be chosen at the start of the game. They are Survival, Creative, Adventure, and
Hardcore. Survival is the main mode in Minecraft, it adds a health and hunger meter and players must
survive in a blocky world full of mobs (enemies). If you die in this mode, you will lose all your items
and experience and teleport back to the spawn. Creative removes the health and hunger bar and let s
the player fly and have unlimited blocks. Adventure is a mode commonly used on player submitted
maps, this prevents the player from breaking anything unless they have the right tool. Hardcore is
exactly like Survival, but when players die the world resets and the player has to start over. Survival,
Adventure, and Hardcore can have set difficulties. In Peaceful difficulty, no mobs will spawn and
players will not starve. In Easy difficulty, mobs will spawn and when a player starves, he or she will
lose half of their health. In Medium difficulty, mobs will be much stronger and when you starve you
will lose ¾ of your health. In Hard difficulty, mobs will be much stronger, much faster, and have more

Steven Spielberg s Reagan-Age
Despite efforts to divorce its story from Arthur Conan Doyle s oeuvre, even politely stating a lack of
affiliation in the opening credits, Young Sherlock Holmes preserves the spirit of Doyle s characters,
fostering an intimate relationship between the adolescent leads and using deductive reasoning as the
backbone of their forthcoming professional partnership. The core attributes are deep rooted, regardless
of the reconstituted origin story and multitude of practical effects, which act as a pleasant diversion,
but produce a distracting incongruity when paired with Victorian set design. Nevertheless, the alliance
between Albion pomp and American excess routinely prevails, bolstered by unexpected melancholic
notes and lived in performances that could sway even the most obstinate purist. The setting is a snow

The Internet Service Providers Are Not Allowed...
The whole idea of net neutrality is that it allows Americans to be able to access everything. It doesn t
matter the source; internet services providers are not allowed discriminate against specific websites.
The problem that Americans wanted to address was that companies were doing . They specifically
wanted to address how companies were hindering with the websites they could access and what
cannot . Americans did notice and turned to the federal government specifically the Federal
Communications Commission to step in (The FCC is an independent government agency) and resolve
this national issue. They asked the FCC to codify the presumption of network neutrality into actual
regulations to prevent the Internet Service Providers from engaging in preferential or discriminatory
treatment for financial gain or just because they felt like it (Public Knowledge). In other words,
Americans wanted to stop ISP s to stop hindering with the content they access for financial gain , they
needed a gatekeeper to prevent ISP s from doing this and in so the FCC created the Open Internet
Order in 2010. In fact, the FCC enacted the Open Internet Order in 2010 to prevent large
telecommunications firms like Verizon and Comcast from stifling competition and innovation online (
Public Knowledge). If there were no neutrality rules, Internet Service Providers can prevent users
from seeing certain websites just by slowing the speed for services like Netflix and Hulu and even

How Did Sherman s Defeat At Kennesaw Mountain
On June 27, 1864 the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain was fought. The Union Army was currently
carrying out Sherman s March. Richard T Sherman was the commander of the Union Army and was
going up against the Confederate Army of Tennessee, commanded by Joseph E. Johnston. Sherman
was beating Johnston again and again with flanking maneuvers pushing the Confederates back all the
way to Kennesaw Mountain. Sherman decided to change his tactics and ordered a frontal assault
rather than another flanking maneuver. John Logan and his men assaulted Pigeon Hill while George
Thomas led his men on another aggressive attack on Cheatham Hill. Both failed miserably with costly
casualties. The Union did however manage to gain position on the Confederate s left flank. With their
left flank exposed, the Confederates withdrew. Sherman did suffer a tactical defeat at Kennesaw

Juvenal Essay
Juvenal
Juvenal was a Roman Satirist active in the late 1st and early 2nd century AD
Biography: Born in Aquinum, Italy at around 55 60 CE and died around 127 or later. He is not really
mentioned by anyone except Martial, who calls him eloquent and describes him as living a poor life
kissing up to the rich. It is thought that his family was fairly well off, and that the first step he made
towards a career was when he became an officer in the army in the administrative service of the
emperor Domitian (81 96 CE) but was never promoted, which upset him. Upset, he wrote a satire
about how court favorites had an unfair influence in the promotion system, and as a result of this
writing he was given the boot and banished to Syene, a remote frontier town (now Aswan in Egypt).
His property was also confiscated. After Domitian kicked the bucket in 96, Juvenal made his return to
Rome. However without any money he had no choice to be a client on the charity of the rich. After a
couple of years he was elderly, and living a more humble life in Rome possessing a farm at Tibur with
livestock and servants. Although generally pessimistic his later works show a few hints humanity and
kindness. No record of his death however he is estimated to have died around 127. ... Show more

works survival. Although forgotten after his death his work was later read and quoted by the Christian
propagandist Tertullian around 200 CE and a commentary on the satires was compiled somewhere
around 350 420 CE and has been studied since.

include the fact that rural areas have better education, lower crime rates, better infrastructure, and

Mona Lisa Analysis Essay
Fieldwork #2: Media Analysis for Gender Leonardo da Vinci s Mona Lisa
Section I: Objective Description This study serves as a gender focused analysis of Leonardo da Vinci s
Mona Lisa. The original piece of artwork was painted with oil on a white poplar panel in Florence,
Italy around 1503 during the latter part of Leonardo da Vinci s life. The artist was an Italian
Renaissance artist who had a wide variety of interests. The woman who is believed to be depicted in
the painting is Lisa Gherardini, a wife and mother of five children who married to an older man named
Francesco di Bartolomeo di Zanobi del Giocondo at the age of only fifteen. The words Mona Lisa
often translate to the words Madam Lisa . Leonardo da Vinci s painting of Mona Lisa has a strong
resemblance to the description of the Virgin Mary, which during the Renaissance period was viewed
as a representation of the ideal woman. The artist achieves a sense of softness around Mona Lisa s
eyes and mouth, portraying a kindness and calmness about the woman. Nevertheless, this painting was
also one of the first portraits to have an imaginary background, Leonardo strategically placed this
mysterious background at the woman s eye level so that the two are related to one another. The
background contains a large landscape with a very long path, cold mountains towards the distance,
and a very small bridge right above her shoulder on the right side of the painting. Despite her very soft
look, something about Mona Lisa and

Move Of Wrestling Essay
So in wrestling there are multiple moves you can do. These moves are probably the most basic moves
you are taught and the most commonly used moves done today. The first move is the double leg
takedown. The double leg takedown is a flying tackle similar to a football tackle (Douglas). For a
double leg takedown there are a lot of little steps that you may need to execute this move correctly.
The first thing you need to do is perform a setup and then to perform a penetration step. The next thing
you are gonna wanna do is to place your head on either side of your opponent. Next you are going to
want to push your chest up against your opponent s thighs and hips. The less space you have the better
control you will have over your opponents strong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Typically, the lower part of the leg is pulled in one direction, while the torso or shoulder is used to
press the body or upper part of the leg of the opponent in the other direction. Another great takedown
is the duck under. In a duck under, the wrestler pulls the opponent s elbow forward and away from the
body, lowers his own head, and ducks under the opponent s arm in an effort to get behind or at least
beside the opponent; from this position the opponent can be taken down by lifting and throwing or by
a leg trip. Then for the best and most used move everyone uses in wrestling, the half nelson. The half
nelson is referred to by most coaches as being the easiest, but most effective move in folkstyle
wrestling (Wrestling Moves). It involves you using only one hand, by passing it under the arm of the
opponent and locking the hand on the opponent s neck. Then you will run him over until his back is
fully on the mat. Then you will want to get chest to chest to make sure that he can t get out of it. You
will hold it there until he is pinned or until you get your nearfall points. So there are a lot of wrestling
moves to know about, but in order to be good at these moves, you must choose to eat healthy so you

If I had a time machine, I would want to go to a very famous time 67 million years ago. Although no
humans were living during that time, I still want to see how different earth was during that time so I
could confirm and add to the overall knowledge about the dinosaurs. The Cretaceous time period was
the last time period in which dinosaurs are seen. This time period spanned from 144 million years ago
(mya) to 66 mya; right after the Jurassic time period and before the Tertiary. This is a time when
dinosaurs were at their height with many thousands of different species known or yet to be identified.
Our earliest ancestors were small rodent like mammals that lived during this time and gradually
evolved into the many different types of mammals we see today. The dinosaurs though, would become
small reptiles such as the lizards we see today after one of the greatest known extinctions of all times
the K T Extinction also known as the extinction of the dinosaurs. In this time, I would see many giant
dinosaurs such as the T rex. These dinosaurs would be competing for their own survival and their
children s survival very roughly by killing other dinosaurs who get too close to their nests or them.
During this time, I would be wondering how did these giant creatures 30 feet tall die and have us puny
mammals take their place as the dominant species? I would then recount that thanks to a combination
of a massive asteroid hitting earth, mammals, deadly diseases, volcanoes, flowering

Blackface In Minstrel Shows
Blackface is a form of makeup used for theatrical purposes, predominantly used by non black
performers portraying a black person. Blackface was mainly used in minstrel shows, also known as
minstrelsy, in which Americans would charge others to watch racial and discriminatory performances.
Minstrel shows were developed in the early 19th century, and every show was composed of
humoristic plays, skits, acts and other visual performances that are meant to mock and make fun of
people of African American descent. The shows were performed mainly by Caucasians using burnt
cork as make up for the purpose of trying to represent a black person. Minstrel shows portrayed black
people as stupid, silly, lazy, and happy go lucky. Therefore, these shows were made by racist
Caucasians that dehumanized African Americans and made them seem like they were idiots in which
they made profit from. Frederick Douglass once said that blackface performers were ...the filthy scum
of white society, who have stolen from us a complexion denied them by nature, in which to make
money, and pander to the corrupt taste of their white fellow citizens. The previous quote perfectly
summarizes the whole concept of blackface. Minstrel shows were the cause from evolved
entertainment. In 1828, Thomas Dartmouth Daddy Rice performed a song and dance routine using
ugly, old, tattered clothes, and blackface in a New York City theatre. He was known as the father of
American minstrelsy. His performance was based on the

Although mostly used for introducing lists or great excerpts of quotes, Capote uses colons for lists as
well as for dividing lines of text to break the monotony. Even more so, they are used as directions for
the reader to understand peoples movements and the exact details of the story. For instance, at one
point Capote writes: Enter: two relatives. Very angry. It is as if the story is a play and he is the director
telling the reader how to interpret the scenes.
Capote s description of things is also different from the typical person s description. For example, to
the laymen, the sun is a big, bright, shiny ball of fire. To Capote, the sun rises ...round as orange and
orange as hot weather moons, balanc[ing] on the horizon, burnish[ing] the silvered winter woods. His
word choice elicits more than just a visual sense of what he is describing; they entice all the senses to
jump into his memory. It is distressing that the friends lack any real interaction with the others in the
household other than to be scolded. The reader feels as if perhaps the neglected ones should be pitied.
Yet, it is comforting that they find consolation in each other and can appreciate each moment for its
beauty. In the end, Capote recalls his friend looking upon the land in front of them

National Aeronautics and Space Administration Analysis
In 1969, millions of Americans watched in rapture as the first human being set foot on the alien
landscape of the moon. The country rejoiced in this exhibition of our abilities, this application of our
knowledge. Now, with the decimation of NASA s budget, those glory days are over.Government
funding for the space agency is at an all time low, and the space shuttle program is being retired. No
longer can the United States send people to the moon, or into space at all for that matter. The country
that first reached the moon the country that once had the most impressive space program in the world
is forced to hitch rides on Russian and Chinese shuttles (Borenstein). In many ways, our best days are
behind us, and we have lost a very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As can be seen in Figure A below, NASA s costs were extremely low compared to almost every other
government program. Fifty times more money is allocated to social and educational programs than to
NASA, and two years of national military spending alone exceed all of the money received by NASA
since its creation fifty years ago. Not only does the space program s funding pale in significance to the
cost of mass weapons of destruction, it is also a fraction of the money we spend on Hollywood
movies, fast food wrapping, beauty products, and wasted electricity every year. At the moment, NASA
s annual budget could be paid by an insignificant contribution from every American s tax dollar: half a
penny (Tyson). How much would you pay to send people to Mars? How much would you pay to
support the dreams of tomorrow?Space exploration has been an easy target for budget cuts, because it
is often expensive and the benefits are not immediately obvious. At some point our nation began to
care more about saving and cutting taxes than exploring the universe. However, NASA is one of the
few large agencies America has that are dedicated to our long term future; the benefits are real and
worth funding. In addition, the US aerospace industry generally generates an annual profit of 30
billion, on top of providing jobs for thousands of skilled workers and new innovations in science and
technology that promote economic growth ( Fiscal ). Epic space adventures

High School Graduation Essay
Graduation
Through out life people go through so many hardships. Whether it be good or bad there is always
something that comes out of the situation. One of the most exciting but yet scariest events would be
graduation. For a lot of people, graduating from high school is a goal. It takes a lot of time and effort
to achieve that goal. In the long run, it opens a lot of opportunities for people to succeed. Graduation
is the end of high school, and the beginning to life. I can almost remember that day like it was
yesterday, I awoke like on any other school day. It was a gorgeous May morning, the rays of sun
flittered through my miniblinds blinding me as if I hadn t seen light in days. I sluggishly dragged my
limp body out of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once I was finished, I gathered up my cap and gown and my car keys and headed out the door. All the
graduates had to meet in the high school library an hour before the ceremonies started, and I promised
one of my best friends Tony that we would go together. I knocked on his back door and let myself in
like I always do. All of his family members were running throughout the house trying to get ready. I
asked his mom where Tony was and she proceeded to tell me that he was in the bathroom getting
ready. I tapped on the door and walked in. He was standing in front of the mirror with his cap and
gown on. He look me straight in the eyes and said, Can you believe that we are about to graduate? I
replied, No, it really hasn t set in yet. Tony finished getting ready, and then we left for the high school.
The parking lot was filled with all the other seniors cars. Tony and I walked into the library ten
minutes late like usual, and the principal had already started giving instructions. I found my place in
line and then was all ears. I couldn t help but look around at all the others. Smiles were plastered on
their faces as if they had heard a hilarious joke. Once the principal concluded his speech, the whole
senior class paraded down the hallway to the commons in two uniform lines stopping just outside the
gymnasium doors. We could hear the band warming up and playing songs. All the people that were
standing around me were bubbling

Why Hinduism Should Be Considered a World Religion
Introduction
Religion in the world today mostly depend on the number of adherents and the rate of at which they
increase in the world. While considering the statistics, studies indicate that Islam is the fastest growing
religion in the world and with a projection that by the year 2050, its popularity shall have increased
more than any other religion in the world. Alongside Islam is the Hinduism, religion which is also
projected to have a faster growth rate and according to research in 2011(Gerald 20), it had grown in
various countries mainly due to migration from India. The growth rate of Hinduism is projected at two
percent annually when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike other religions across the world, Hinduism does not have a specific way of worship, or a god
and scriptures to be used. The religion that is considered to be the oldest has an array of beliefs and
practices within it, and therefore many have always referred to it as a family religion or a way of life.
In the recent years, it has been established that there is a way in conformation to an almost similarity
among the Hindus, and a larger population now consider a sacred text known as Veda and have a
shared system of values known as dharma.
Religion can be characterized by the existence of belief and faith that something is acceptable and
should be practiced without questioning or confirmation. In the Hindu religion, it can be confirmed
that the way many things are characterized and the belief in the consequences of a person s conduct
can be categorically defined as faith. For instance, in Hindu, there is a belief that the individual soul is
not created, but it has been in existence and will continue to exist. Just like in other religions whereby
the actions of a person reaps the consequences in the next phase of life, Hindus, however, believe that
the souls will one day comeback to life in a different form, which utterly depends on the consequences
of its actions before the rebirth. The kind of body that the soul will inhabit after that is determined by
Karma, which is a term used to refer to actions

Safety, peace and order are among the requisities for a country or a place to be attractive for investors,
foreign and local. The proclamation of military law in Mindanao will have an effect on the feeling of
foreign financial specialists with respect to the Philippines, as indicated by the European Chamber of
Commerce of the Philippines, particularly on the off chance that it takes long to settle the 4 month
long conflict in Marawi City. (Cordero, 2017)

Foreign and local tourism in Mindanao had already an impact to the tourism in Mindanao because of
the foreign travel warnings and advisories that were issued by countries such as the United Kingdom,
Canada and United States of America. Domestic travel going to some places in Mindanao were
partially reduced. Carriers as of now have scratched off and lessened flights to flights in Mindanao.
Travel and Tourism represents 20 percent of our Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Mindanao takes 5
percent or P150 billion of the P3 trillion commitment of Travel and Tourism. The entire of Mindanao
likewise represents 10 percent of our economy, with horticultural generation and fares of agri items
taking noticeable quality. This is a P1.4 trillion part to our yearly GDP which might be in danger if the
war in Marawi is not contained and settled soon enough. (Almendras, 2017) In fact, the former
chairman of the Mindanao Business Council (MBC), Joji Ilagan Bian, admitted the fact that the war

1 John Gnosticism
7. The author of 1 John was concerned about the conditions within the group, which related to false
teachings of some Christians. Specifically, the physical humanity of Jesus, his Incarnation in the flesh
, and the necessity of showing love for fellow believers (Harris, 2014, p.437). The book of 1 John may
have been a response to protoGnostics, secessionists who were predecessors of the Gnosticism that
challenged other forms of Christianity from the second through the fifth centuries CE (Harris, 2014,
p.437). Specifically, Gnosticism concentrated on a two fold view of the cosmos, which represented the
belief that only the spirit was pure and good and that the physical world, the creation of a subordinate
god, was permanently dishonest.

Device that Can Process the Output of a Guitar Pickup and...
The objective of this project is to design and created a device that can process the output of a guitar
pickup and automatically tune the guitar to the desired overall tuning. The core principles of the
projects would be a device that is built exclusively for tuning a guitar. The device developed from the
current project should be both gentle and durable. When the user strums all six strings together, the
vibrations are detected by a piezoelectric sensor which utilizes an algorithm to determine each strings
fundamental frequency. The tuning peg is then turned by a servo, which is controlled by a
microcontroller, to adjust the tension until the desert are detected by a piezoelectric sensor which
utilizes an algorithm to determine each strings fundamental frequency.
Since our turning device developed from this project should be compatible with all types of electric
guitar, my specific contributions to the project deals with system design, experimental analysis and
problem solving. I come up with the hardware design. Like we said before, there are other devices out
there such as Tropical Tune s Self Tuning system, so the signal processing part of our design has
proven durable. The problem we encounter the most is the one deals with actual hardware, in this case
the displacement of six tuning pegs of the different kind of guitars. The copper wire design that allows
for multiple string tuning and is lightweight, which makes this a convenient, easy to carry tuning
device. The

Introduction Innovations in computer processing, data storage, analytics software coupled with
reduced costs have contributed to the emergence of big data as a mainstay in the world of Information
Technology. It is no secret that businesses have been looking for ways to parse and effectively convert
the vast amounts the data they ve been able to collect since technology has allowed them to do so.
However, until recently, that has proven either too expensive or arduous of a process. Peter Sloot, in a
call for papers referring to this very topic addresses what is known as the Big Data problem,
Such Data Explosions has led to one of the most challenging research issues of the current
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) era: how to effectively and optimally manage such
large amount of data and identify new ways to analyze large amounts of data for unlocking
information. The issue is also known as the Big Data problem, which is defined as the practice of
collecting complex data sets so large that it becomes difficult to analyze and interpret manually or
using on hand data management applications. From the perspective of real world applications, the Big
Data problem has also become a common phenomenon in domain of science, medicine, engineering,
and commerce
With emerging analytic capabilities, however, businesses are able to use the data to better predict,

How Is Chris Brander Presented In Just Friends
The characters in the 2005 film, Just Friends are a very interesting bunch. They are all different in
many ways but, somehow share some of the same qualities. The movies stars Ryan Reynolds, who
portrays Chris Brander. Chris Brander is a well rounded character who somehow evolves as the movie
goes on. Chris was in love with Jamie Palamino portrayed by Amy Smart; Jamie was a somewhat a
flat character who did not change much at all. A character whose transformation was similar to Chris s
was Dusty Dinkleman who was portrayed by Chris Klein. While it seems that Jamie and Samantha
James have a one similarity by the name of Chris Brander. The main character Chris Brander was an
evolving character he went through some pretty big changes both mentally and physically. As the
movie starts, Chris is seen as this overweight, unpopular nerd in high school. He is in love with his
best friend Jamie Palamino, a popular girl, who has officially Friend Zoned him. Being Friend Zoned
is the one thing every guy on the face of the earth dreads. Once in the Friend Zone ... Show more

Chris leaves his hometown with the intent of never returning. He mistakenly returns a decade later as
a different person. This is surprisingly normal in real life; people leave home after high school and go
through some life altering change while away. They return and sometimes the people they return to are
happy with the change, and then they may not like the change they see. Chris returns as a fit and slim
womanizer who is arrogant and rude. Guys are not born jerks and womanizers they turn into them,
because of their experience with girls. They start off as nice little boys who likes the girl who only
likes the Jerk who pulls her hair. Chris turns into the jerk who pulls the girls hair because he thinks
that is guy that Jamie wants. This notion is based on the guys she dated in high school not the guys she

Courage In Finding Forrester
Having courage to accomplish a new task may not only be extremely difficult for most, but also
harder for one to apply that courage to go out of their way to an unfamiliar place. In the movie Finding
Forrester, both of the main characters, Forrester and Jamal, portray the idea of courage throughout the
entire movie. Finding Forrester is a classic movie about a forgotten author, Forrester, and a teenager,
Jamal, with a hidden dream. Jamal and Forrester create a special bond between the two of them
through their love of writing. This bond between the two allows for each of them to gain courage.
Through this courage, Jamal is able to share his dream with his peers and Forrester is able to
overcome his fear to help Jamal with a conflict with his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since Forrester gained a new sense of courage from his friendship with Jamal, it enables him to go to
professor Crawfords classroom and to stand up for Jamal. Jamal is accused of plagiarizing a paper that
he wrote for Crawford s class, but the catch behind is that the beginning of the paper is actually
Forrester s work. This accusation on Jamal creates a new conflict not only for Jamal, but also for
Forrester. Jamals conflict is to either break his promise with Forrester or risk being accused of
cheating. For Forrester, his obstacle is to either overcome his fear or let Jamal suffer from his mistake.
Forrester builds up his courage and goes to read one of Jamal s writings to the class, and prove that he
did not actually plagiarize. Since Forrester secluded himself from all of society because of his self
guilt, it takes a tremendous amount of courage to go out into an unfamiliar place, especially to a
classroom with a professor who attempted to tear him down by criticizing Forrester.Movielocity
(2000) stated, It comes down to a moment of truth for both men; for Jamal, a choice between
following his dream or betraying a friend, and for Forrester, a decision to remain closed off or to look
at the world through new eyes (p.3). Here, movielocity is saying that because this conflict occurred, it
gave both of the men another conflict within themselves. For Forrester, it was to either remain
secluded or to see the world through new eyes and to help his friend. Since Forrester gained
confidence from Jamal, it helped him to make the right decision with his inner conflict and go to
Crawfords classroom and see the world through fresh eyes. Jamal also portrays courage when he
transfers to a new private school. Jamals previous school is a normal public school while this new
private school is prestigious. Since this is a big change in atmosphere, courage plays a key role in
helping Jamal make the transfer from one school to

Descriptive Essay About The Nyonya Shop
Hoon Xin Yu
Assignment 2 The Nyonya Shop (Final Draft)
Up close, the shop is surprisingly grand and majestic, unlike the view I had from a distance with its
baby blue and lemon green pastel exterior reminding me of a newborn s nursery. Its vivid colours
makes it easy to spot along the mundane East Coast Road, but the golden carvings of a wide range of
flora and fauna that I now see in fine detail, add to this notion of grandeur. The shades grew bolder as
I approach, shifting from the sweet candy like pastel colour to the splash of persian blue which
highlights the ambience of Asian culture around the shop. The numbers 1928 boldly stand out in white
stucco above a dark green awning giving a sense of antiquity. Encrusting that curious date are a
collection of geometric patterns which match the lemon green window sills differing only in the rich
pink added to accentuate the significance of the numbers.
As I pause under the shelter of an arch, I feel as if time has frozen and I am in a bygone day among the
glory of the Peranakans, offspring of Chinese and Malays who lived and worked here. ... Show more

tourists at the back from the shop looking at the gold and silver Serangkai Brooches that female

  • 2. Orlando Furioso And Medieval Romance The authors aimed at different purpose. This, alone, forced the difference in handling the poetic matter. If Orlando Furioso can be categorised as Epic Romance, Spenser s The Faerie Queene, here particularly Book 1, would be the Medieval Romance the one with a quest centered narrative. But what is really the difference? First of all, the central theme. In Orlando Furioso, whatever the significance of individual duels, monster fights, and larger battles, the driving force of the poem is love and passion, notably, Orlando s love and passion as the title itself suggests. To add to the complexity of the poem, Ariosto made it rich in plots, sub plots, and sub sub plots. It seems as if the poem s chief aim was to entertain. The Faerie Queene ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No historical event is introduced. Moreover, Spenser chose to set his poem in a Faerie Land with no apparent geographical boundries and no specific historical event in the background. One may argue though, that the Faerie Land is indeed Britain ruled by Great Lady of the greatest Isle , that is, Elizabeth Tudor. It is true as far as it goes, since poem is highly allegorical from top to bottom. This fundamental difference between the two poems becomes even more apparent as the reader progresses through the books. The first book of The Faerie Queene is character centered, that is, we barely abandon the protagonists (Redcrosse and Una) throughout the book. Brief sub plots only complement the Quest outlined in the first stanzas of canto 1. This narration is cumulative. Aditionally, Spenser cherishes every moment and episode of his poem. He carefully ennumerates the trees, he suspends the action in order to describe the monster Error that appears early in the path of Redcrosse and Una. At the same time he makes use of adjectives so as not to leave us any doubts as to his attitude to it: ... he [Redcrosse] saw the ugly monster plaine, Halfe like a serpent horribly ... • 3. ##m And Discrimination In Gloria Naylor s Black Men And... Racism and discrimination towards those of African descent can be hard topics to discuss, especially since America still experiences the discriminatory effects of slavery. The history and fundamentals of slavery has created a rift between whites and blacks that is seemingly impossible to overcome. There has been and will be lasting social effects including racial slurs and misconceptions based on how the world views African Americans. Brent Staples, in Black Men and Public Space, details his experience being treated unfairly due to his racial status. Gloria Naylor s Mommy, what does Nigger Mean? discusses the authors first time being called the N word, how she felt, and how she asked her mom about what it meant. Brent Staples Black Men and Public Space , and Gloria Naylor s Mommy, what does Nigger Mean? are similar through the authors accounts of being treated poorly because of their African descent along with ways to cope with that oppression, and contrast through their tone in the intro and through there experience of being discriminated against and overall effect on the reader. Both authors explore examples in which they are treated in a racist or discriminatory manner. Brent Staples encountered a younger woman and came upon her late one evening on a deserted street... she cast back a worried glance... picked up her pace and was soon running in earnest. (Staples 1) Just the mere sight of him made the woman scared, after this experience he feels surprised, embarrassed, and dismayed all at once. Her flight made me feel like an accomplice in tyranny. (2) He realizes that he is indistinguishable from the muggers... (2), or at least to the woman. Staples experiences, first hand, discrimination; the woman is fearful of him because of his race, and Staples feels the full effect of that. Gloria Naylor recounts the first time she was ever called the N word. It was in class and she she says she couldn t have been more puzzled. She didn t know what a nigger was, but she did know it was something he shouldn t have called her (Naylor 3). She was thoroughly confused and later asked her mother what the word meant. Naylor is treated poorly due to the color of her skin. Similarly to Staples, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Egyptian Religion And Ancient Egypt Egyptian Religion Jose Saucedo English II Honors November 20, 2014 Egyptian Religion Egypt was a very powerful empire lasting more than 3000 years, which is divided into 8 or 9 periods, sometimes called kingdoms. But what made their empire, so powerful, what made it last more than 3 millennia. Egyptologist believes that it was due to Egypt s strong bond with their gods and goddesses and their mythological beliefs. The gods and goddesses and the myths were the foundations of Egypt s cultural structure. The Egyptian gods were vital in the religion and culture of Egypt. The gods were the explanation for life, death, basically everything about on earth and in our universe. The most popular gods were Ra, Osiris, Isis, Horus, Seth, and Anubis. Ra was the god of the sun and creation. He was often depicted as a hawk headed man with a sun disk; he may also be depicted as a scarab beetle. Osiris is the god of life, death, and the afterlife. Osiris has the appearance of a mummified Pharaoh; he wore an Atef crown with feathers on the sides, and held a crook and flail, the tools of a Pharaoh. He had green skin, with meaning rebirth to the Egyptians. Isis was the wife of Osiris, and the mother of Horus. She was also the goddess of magic, marriage, and healing. She is depicted as a queen with a sun disk. Horus was the son of Osiris and Isis. Horus is the Egyptian god of the sky. He became the king of Egypt after fighting his uncle Seth. • 5. The Levels Of Hierarchy Of Needs Motivation is defined as the general desire or willingness of someone to do something. Numerous incidents occur in our lives where we are motivated and numerous incidents occur where we lack any motivation. As I am a full time student and not currently working, I chose to write this paper on my motivation to finish my education and attain a higher level degree in health care. According to Abraham H. Maslow s Theory, there are five levels of hierarchy of needs. During the first level, we are dealing with our physiological needs which are the basic needs of survival. I am fortunate enough to be living a life where I have access to water, food, and shelter. During the second level, we are dealing with our safety needs. I attain my safety from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Steve Reiss s Theory and idea of status states that status is attained through the desire for prestige. It also means that a person is very conscious about reputation and how they are viewed by those around them. I am an Indian who believes in the Indian caste system. The caste system is a class structure that everyone is born into. In the Indian culture, life is dominated by the caste system. I was born to a mother and a father who were both born into the upper levels of the caste system. This means that my parents enjoyed a life of high materialistic value. Those in the upper class also valued the importance of education because those who had prestigious college degrees were the ones who were highly respected. This component of my culture has been passed down to me and these are the values that I live with today. I want to continue to earn the respect of my family and those in the Indian community by going on to earn my PhD. There are positive and negative components of the Indian caste system, but it is a custom and a practice that has been followed for centuries. There are many periods in our lives where we lack motivation. Using Steven Reiss s Theory, and his idea of order, I am able to recall the multiple times I have lost a sense of motivation. • 6. Bullying on School Campuses | Bullying on School Campuses | | I. Introduction Parents are way overprotective these days; getting picked on by tougher kids and hassling weaker ones is just a part growing up. It is how they learn to deal with the real world. A statement heard by many people from adults. Unfortunately, this statement is incorrect. Throughout the course of years the US Department of Justice and Education indicate that more than eighty percent (80%) of public elementary and secondary schools report experiencing at least one violent incident ranging from bullying and physical fights to rape and assault with a weapon. In fact, on his transcript to his new school the principal stated that he was a class bully. The child too sick, too scared, too angry to go to school was the one the students classified as the terrorizing one; not recognizing he was the lonely, helpless one. Why does this sort of thing continue? The apathy of schools is to blame, mainly, apart from the cruelty of some children to others. III. Impact We need to teach schools how to deal with bullies and bullying. Students who come to administration with a concern are not tattle tales. And if you believe they are, that is fine. Also know that police officers and judges are tattle tales too. In fact, by not saying anything we are condoning the bully s actions and telling them that it is okay to bully. Students need to know that it is okay to talk to someone / anyone about being bullied. We need anti bullying restrictions shown more around the school for an effort to stop bullying in my opinion. Almost half of public high schools have a problem with bullying, but if you look at our student discipline/conduct section in the policies for the school there are more disciplinary actions taken for the usage of a cell phone or being tardy to a class then there is for bullying. In researching this subject, I never found an article that s linked cell phone usage to suicide brought on by depression. Schools claim they do everything to create a safe and ... Characteristics Of Adrian Gore In the following essay one talks/writes about three forms of leadership, namely: Transformational from of leadership where the leader maintains a mutual relationship between him/her and the followers thereof, Charismatic leadership, which gathers followers through the leader s dint of personality and charm, and Transactional form of leadership which co ordinates procedures of working together. (Robbins, S.P. (2007) Organisational Behaviour (SA Ed): Global and South African perspective). A leader is a person who influences a group of people towards the achievement of a goal, having empowered the very same to reach their full potential in benefiting both sides. Management by exception is a strict structured way of leading as these are the kind of leaders which focus on the role of supervision, organization and group performance. • 8. Similarities Between Orwell And The Truman Show Power, the good life and utopia are all connected, without one you can t have another. But what is power, the good life and utopia? And how is each of these topics viewed by different people? Peter Weir; the director of the Truman Show, and George Orwell; the writer of animal farm have almost the same views on each topic and make that clear in their work. In each of these topics it is clear that Weir and Orwell are in agreement. Power is the ability to do something or act in a particular way. But with power comes great responsibility. In the Truman Show, Weir shows how one person s power can be seen as good by some, but bad by others. For example, Kristoff thinks that he is using his power over Truman to make sure he lives the perfect life. Whereas Truman wants to live out his dreams of adventuring and traveling the world, something that Kristoph does not allow using his power over him. There is a conflict of interest, and unfortunately for Trueman, Kristoph unfairly has more control over the end results. Kristoph is in a way responsible with his power although for a different point of view, such as truman s, it would be seen as irresponsible as well as unsympathetic. Likewise, in Animal Farm, Orwell tells us how a group s power can be seen as good by some, but bad by others. One example being the change of rules that the pigs create for the farm, using their power, for their obvious benefit. While some of the animals go along with the change, other tend to dislike or clash with the idea. The pigs are not responsible with their overall power over the animals, leading to the destruction of their original plan of action. In conclusion, both Peter Weir and George Orwell say that where there is power, there is also conflict of interest and much responsibility alongside it. There is also conflict when it comes to the perfect world, being utopia. Utopia is a term given to the concept of a perfect society. Its an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect. Meaning it is not possible in reality. In the Truman Show, Weir shows how if one is able to, they will create their idea of Utopia, disregarding others needs and wants for their own. Kristoph created Truman s reality based on his idea of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Causes Of The Malayan Emergency The Malayan Emergency was a guerrilla war fought in pre and post independence Federation of Malaya. The main antagonists were the Common Wealth Armed forces on one side and the Malayan National Liberation Army, and the military arm of the Malayan Communist Party on the other side. The Common Wealth Forces armed the communist party during their war with the Japanese Army in the Second World War. The Malayan Emergency was originally the colonial government s term for the conflict. The rubber plantation and tin mining industries pushed for the use of the term emergency since their losses would not have been covered by the insurances if they had been termed a war. During the Malayan Emergency, both the opposition and the Common Wealth Forces had mass casualties and deaths. In the Malaya Emergency, the Common Wealth Forces applied so many strategies to defeat their enemies unlike in other wars. Consequently, the applied principles and the strategies during the war had been plundered by the Western countries. At first, the Common Wealth Forces used the common ways of dealing the situations. They swept the large areas, captured and detained in large numbers and, then punished large groups of people. Despite, they could not achieve so much out of their first move. The outcome of their move led to increase in the insurgent recruitment by alienating many civilians. • 10. Analysis Of The Powwow At The End Of The World The Powwow at the End of the World by Sherman Alexie appears to be a modern free verse poem with varying line length and no end rhyme. It is actually a ceremony to preserve and restore the Native American land and way of life. The repetition of the beginning of the lines and the strong rhythm suggest the drumbeat and dance of the apocalyptic powwow, or communal dance of Indians at the end of the world when all will be put right again. The speaker is an Indian answering the demand for forgiveness by the audience, who imply the Indians should forget four centuries of the atrocities committed by European settlers. He speaks in authoritative chant like native rhetoric as though he can actually do what he says, like a medicine man. The poem in a few lines undoes the effects of modern civilization, destroying dams and allowing the waters to flow and the salmon to return. A modern reader might assume that this is wishful thinking, a way to deal psychologically with the Native American situation in a metaphorical Armageddon, or that the poem is an elaborate putdown because the conditions for forgiveness will obviously not be met. Instead, it can be read as a ceremony to make something happen. Native American writers often use traditional ceremony as the basic model of their poems; that is, the type of speech that enacts something rather than describing or persuading. Indian tribal ceremonies use formal structures of incantation, song, dance, prayer, visual symbol, and gesture to restore wholeness to the land and community. The ancient oral traditions of most indigenous cultures had the purpose to integrate the people with the cosmic forces. Ceremonies were meant to produce specific results, such as rain or healing, and language was a primary tool. Alexie is using language to resurrect the dead Indians and their culture at a powwow at the end of the world. If one understands the ancient use of language, the poem yields a holistic reading of something he wants to happen now, not later. The poem says the speaker will only forgive when all the destruction of the land and Indians has been removed, but he does not wait for the government or for the end of the world. He topples the Grand Coulee Dam and nuclear reactors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Reasons for Britain s Relinquishment of Hong Kong With martial and precision music played, the sovereignty of Hong Kong was returned from Britain to China officially in a ceremony held on July 1st, 1997. The ceremony symbolized that Hong Kong moved into a new era that is a dramatic change from capitalist territory to Communist control and in the meanwhile, the colonial power of Britain in Hong Kong was eventually declared the end. The purpose of this research paper is to analyze the reasons for the relinquishment of Hong Kong from three aspects that is historical background, the negotiation between British and Chinese governments and the results. Date back to 1800s in China, after the failure of two Opium Wars; Hong Kong entirely became a colony of Britain according to two unequal treaties that are Treaty of Nanking and Convention of Peking. As Hong Kong is a colony, it must be resumed over one day. After the foundation of People s Republic of China, PRC needed to build up diplomatic development and this historical issue was brought to the table. Although the relinquishment issue was complicated and the negotiation between British and Chinese governments was back and forth, it was well solved in 1984 by signing Sino British Joint Declaration. • 15. The Horizon Oil Rig Explosion The 2010 Horizon Oil Rig Explosion On April 20th, 2010 an explosion occurred that would be considered one of the worst oil spills in U.S. history. The explosion was cause by a surge of natural gas that made it way to the Horizon rig s platform that ignited. This caused the rig to capsize and sink, thus breaking risers that were being use to counter act the large amount of pressure from oil and natural gasses (Pallardy, 2015). The explosion killed 11 workers and injured 17 others. The explosion caused a massibe leak in the oil wellhead. It took 87 days for the wellhead to be closed and it is estimated that over that time around 210 million gallons of oil leaked into the gulf (Gulf Oil Spill, 2011). BP workers tried to activate a blowout prevent that was part of the Horizon rig s design. This mechanism was supposed to close off any way to draw out oil bu the mechanism malfunctioned due to the pressure form the gas and oil that cause the explosion (Pallardy, 2015). The explosion happened a few miles from the Loop Current which is a large current of warm water in the Gulf that covers a massive amount of distance making it easy from the oil to spread (Treudaburg Gramling, 2010). Over the next couple of months they tried a variety of different caps to try to stem the flow of oil but they were generally unsuccessful and oil still leaked through. Mona Lisa Analysis Essay Fieldwork #2: Media Analysis for Gender Leonardo da Vinci s Mona Lisa Section I: Objective Description This study serves as a gender focused analysis of Leonardo da Vinci s Mona Lisa. The original piece of artwork was painted with oil on a white poplar panel in Florence, Italy around 1503 during the latter part of Leonardo da Vinci s life. The artist was an Italian Renaissance artist who had a wide variety of interests. The woman who is believed to be depicted in the painting is Lisa Gherardini, a wife and mother of five children who married to an older man named Francesco di Bartolomeo di Zanobi del Giocondo at the age of only fifteen. The words Mona Lisa often translate to the words Madam Lisa . Leonardo da Vinci s painting of Mona Lisa has a strong resemblance to the description of the Virgin Mary, which during the Renaissance period was viewed as a representation of the ideal woman. The artist achieves a sense of softness around Mona Lisa s eyes and mouth, portraying a kindness and calmness about the woman. Nevertheless, this painting was also one of the first portraits to have an imaginary background, Leonardo strategically placed this mysterious background at the woman s eye level so that the two are related to one another. • 35. Move Of Wrestling Essay So in wrestling there are multiple moves you can do. These moves are probably the most basic moves you are taught and the most commonly used moves done today. The first move is the double leg takedown. The double leg takedown is a flying tackle similar to a football tackle (Douglas). For a double leg takedown there are a lot of little steps that you may need to execute this move correctly. The first thing you need to do is perform a setup and then to perform a penetration step. The next thing you are gonna wanna do is to place your head on either side of your opponent. Next you are going to want to push your chest up against your opponent s thighs and hips. The less space you have the better control you will have over your opponents strong ... Typically, the lower part of the leg is pulled in one direction, while the torso or shoulder is used to press the body or upper part of the leg of the opponent in the other direction. Another great takedown is the duck under. In a duck under, the wrestler pulls the opponent s elbow forward and away from the body, lowers his own head, and ducks under the opponent s arm in an effort to get behind or at least beside the opponent; from this position the opponent can be taken down by lifting and throwing or by a leg trip. Then for the best and most used move everyone uses in wrestling, the half nelson. The half nelson is referred to by most coaches as being the easiest, but most effective move in folkstyle wrestling (Wrestling Moves). It involves you using only one hand, by passing it under the arm of the opponent and locking the hand on the opponent s neck. Then you will run him over until his back is fully on the mat. Then you will want to get chest to chest to make sure that he can t get out of it. You will hold it there until he is pinned or until you get your nearfall points. So there are a lot of wrestling moves to know about, but in order to be good at these moves, you must choose to eat healthy so you can execute these moves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although no humans were living during that time, I still want to see how different earth was during that time so I could confirm and add to the overall knowledge about the dinosaurs. The Cretaceous time period was the last time period in which dinosaurs are seen. This time period spanned from 144 million years ago (mya) to 66 mya; right after the Jurassic time period and before the Tertiary. This is a time when dinosaurs were at their height with many thousands of different species known or yet to be identified. Our earliest ancestors were small rodent like mammals that lived during this time and gradually evolved into the many different types of mammals we see today. The dinosaurs though, would become small reptiles such as the lizards we see today after one of the greatest known extinctions of all times the K T Extinction also known as the extinction of the dinosaurs. In this time, I would see many giant dinosaurs such as the T rex. These dinosaurs would be competing for their own survival and their children s survival very roughly by killing other dinosaurs who get too close to their nests or them. During this time, I would be wondering how did these giant creatures 30 feet tall die and have us puny mammals take their place as the dominant species? I would then recount that thanks to a combination of a massive asteroid hitting earth, mammals, deadly diseases, volcanoes, flowering ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Blackface In Minstrel Shows Blackface is a form of makeup used for theatrical purposes, predominantly used by non black performers portraying a black person. Blackface was mainly used in minstrel shows, also known as minstrelsy, in which Americans would charge others to watch racial and discriminatory performances. Minstrel shows were developed in the early 19th century, and every show was composed of humoristic plays, skits, acts and other visual performances that are meant to mock and make fun of people of African American descent. The shows were performed mainly by Caucasians using burnt cork as make up for the purpose of trying to represent a black person. Minstrel shows portrayed black people as stupid, silly, lazy, and happy go lucky. Therefore, these shows were made by racist Caucasians that dehumanized African Americans and made them seem like they were idiots in which they made profit from. Frederick Douglass once said that blackface performers were ...the filthy scum of white society, who have stolen from us a complexion denied them by nature, in which to make money, and pander to the corrupt taste of their white fellow citizens. The previous quote perfectly summarizes the whole concept of blackface. Minstrel shows were the cause from evolved entertainment. Truman Capote, as a grown man, took advantage of his vivid memories and composed the short work, A Christmas Memory. The story begins in late November, a month symbolic of all the years gone by that Capote could remember beginning preparations for Christmas fruitcakes. The year he has chosen, though, is that of the last Christmas three friends spend together. Although mostly used for introducing lists or great excerpts of quotes, Capote uses colons for lists as well as for dividing lines of text to break the monotony. Very angry. It is as if the story is a play and he is the director telling the reader how to interpret the scenes. Capote s description of things is also different from the typical person s description. For example, to the laymen, the sun is a big, bright, shiny ball of fire. To Capote, the sun rises ...round as orange and orange as hot weather moons, balanc[ing] on the horizon, burnish[ing] the silvered winter woods. His word choice elicits more than just a visual sense of what he is describing; they entice all the senses to jump into his memory. It is distressing that the friends lack any real interaction with the others in the household other than to be scolded. The reader feels as if perhaps the neglected ones should be pitied. Yet, it is comforting that they find consolation in each other and can appreciate each moment for its beauty. In the end, Capote recalls his friend looking upon the land in front of them ... The objective of this project is to design and created a device that can process the output of a guitar pickup and automatically tune the guitar to the desired overall tuning. The core principles of the projects would be a device that is built exclusively for tuning a guitar. The device developed from the current project should be both gentle and durable. When the user strums all six strings together, the vibrations are detected by a piezoelectric sensor which utilizes an algorithm to determine each strings fundamental frequency. The tuning peg is then turned by a servo, which is controlled by a microcontroller, to adjust the tension until the desert are detected by a piezoelectric sensor which utilizes an algorithm to determine each strings fundamental frequency.
