Temperance And Prohibition Propaganda
Religion was the main reason behind Temperance and Prohibition movement. The Second Great
Awakening was a Protestant revival that started around the1800 s in the United States. The revivals
attracted hundreds of new followers to the Protestant denomination. Massachusetts passed a
Temperance law in 1838. If the alcohol where in quantities less than 15 gallons it was banned, The
Temperance law was repealed two years later. In 1846 Maine passed the one of the first state
prohibition law . Many other states followed by the time the Civil War began in 1861. The temperance
movement of the 19th and early 20th century was an organized in effort to encourage moderation in
the consumption of intoxicating liquors or press for complete abstinence . ... Show more content on

The 18th amendment was ratified on January 29,1919. The amendment went into effect about a year
later, 33 states had already authorized their own prohibition legislation. The National Prohibition Act.
Provided guidelines for the federal enforcement of prohibition. Championed by representative Andrew
Volstead of Mississippi as the Volstead Act . Even after President Woodrow Willison veto, the
Volstead Act was passed by congress. The act was passed on October 28, 1919. It was up to the
Treasury Department/ Internal Revenue Service IRS for the enforcement of the Volstead Act using
Prohibition agents employed through the IRS. It was eventually transferred to the Justice Department.
Most of the enforcers could be bribed by the bootleggers. The government had fewer than 1,600 low
paid, poorly trained prohibition agents for the entire country. The public reaction to the introduction of
prohibition was mixed. Less than one hour after prohibition took effect six gunmen hijacked a train in
Chicago and stole over $100,000 worth of whiskey that was marked for medicinal use . Prohibition
led to organized crime. speakeasies, bootleggers, bathtub gin, and a national wildness called the
roaring twenties. Prohibition turned the small gangs that existed in the early 20th century into the
powerful mafias that are still around today. A huge public demand for alcohol, made a very

Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH)
In late 2001, an amateur astronomer happened upon an uncharacteristically bright object in the
Monocerotis constellation (Figure 1). Over the next several months the object went through periods of
intense brightness the likes of which had rarely been seen before. My research this summer was to use
a computer simulation to better understand what may have caused this strange event known as V838
Mon. In order to understand what may have caused the bright outbursts, it is necessary to try and
make a model of the event that caused them. To make this model, we implement a Smoothed Particle
Hydrodynamics (SPH) code called Starsmasher. The code calculates the movements of many small
particles to replicate the movement of a fluid, such as a liquid or ... Show more content on

Also, an ever present goal is to make the simulation more physically accurate to achieve the best
results possible without spending too much computation time. The beginning of my research was
spent adjusting the conditions to try to fit an outcome that we wanted. The outcomes included how
many times the two stars would collide, the times between when the stars collided, and the peak in the
brightness of the system. The latter half of my research project was spent primarily trying to improve
different aspects of the simulation code. Primarily how transparent the gases should be at different
distances to the center of the collision. The transparencies can change how bright the star is measured
to be as well as the temperature of the star, two very important sets of data for modelling. It depends
on the types of gases and molecules present in the system and the temperature and radiation near those
molecules. This gives the simulation a better match to what the astronomers actually observed (Figure
2). I increased the speed of a splotting routine tenfold and we are working on a method to better
resolve the distance of different gases in the collision at different times. This faster splot will not only
be useful for my research, it will also be used in a majority of future projects carried out in the
research

Improving Quality of Service for Multimedia
There are two ways of providing quality of service for multimedia first, adding quality of service to
current cloud computing infrastructure, and second, adding quality of service between cloud and
multimedia infrastructures. In former, It focus on adding quality of service in only on cloud
infrastructure In later case, It focuses on adding quality of service between cloud infrastructure and
multimedia infrastructure. In this research we focusing on how cloud can provide quality of service
with help of multimedia applications. According to the properties of multimedia services, similar types
of multimedia services is processed through cluster servers. Each Media edge cloud is having three
clusters such as Storage, central processing unit, graphical process unit (GPU). All media related
applications will be processed by GPU. Storage types of media applications will be processed through
storage cluster. To improve the performance of media cloud, cloud proxy is proposed to reduce
latency. The mobile media proxy is designed to deal with mobile multimedia computing. Mobile
caching is included to process the mobile applications because, Mobile applications need to perform
with minimum number of resources. (Cybenko, G, 1989) Media cloud processing

Shoguns In Japan
Impact of the Shoguns
Shogunate Japan was the time of the samurai, where Japan was divided into clans and followed a
leader called Shogun. This was the time from 1185 to 1868, from the time that the emperor was
defeated and Japan converged to military rule until the Tokugawa Shogunate fell. Clearly, the Shoguns
had a very significant impact on Japanese society throughout the hundreds of years that the Shoguns
ruled.
The impact of Shoguns on Japanese society can be demonstrated clearly when the social structure of
Shogunate Japan is analysed. Shogunate Japanese society was separated into three main sections, the
royal classes, the noble classes and the lower classes. Nearly all of the population was in the lower
classes and the least amount of the society was in the royal classes. These categories branch off into
Japanese classes. The classes in the royal category are the Emperor, Royal Family and Royal Priests.
Although these classes are considered the highest classes in Japan, authority was not a word that ...

The main weapon of the samurai was his katana, which is said to be the soul of the samurai. The
katana was expertly made by the artisans, it was made of steel that was heated to hot temperatures and

curved edge so they could slash a person instantly after pulling it out. The samurai were expert archers
and could fire accurately while on a moving horseback. The samurai started training at the age of five
and spent years of constant practice on archery, swordsmanship, martial arts, poetry and religious
discipline. The training was very strict and one master would even strike his students at random times
until they learnt to never lose their guard. The samurai had a significant impact on Japanese society,

Essay On Screwball Comedy
Research Question: How does His Girl Friday stay within the bounds of the Hays Code while
challenging the culture of censorship in United States?
Milberg, Doris. The art of the screwball comedy: madcap entertainment from the 1930s to today.
McFarland, 2013.
Milberg s book dives into the popular screwball comedy genre that arose in the 1930s. The first few
chapters discuss the structure and major attributes of screwball comedies, highlighting the clever
dialogue, battle of the sexes, and physical elements that harken back to slapstick comedy films.
Popular tropes, such as ambitious newspaper reporters, and popular stars like Cary Grant from His
Girl Friday are featured. Milberg takes an in depth look at how films within the genre derived ... Show

Leff, Leonard J., and Jerold L. Simmons. The Dame in the kimono Hollywood, censorship, and the

Leff and Simmons book explores the history of film censorship, from the 1920 s Motion Picture
Producers and Distributors Association (MPPDA), to the Hays Code, to the current MPAA rating
system. The first half of the book gives a thorough background on the people who spearheaded the
efforts to enact censorship in Hollywood, especially focusing on MPPDA President William Hays and
Joseph Breen. Leff and Simmons detail the pre code vulgarity and blatant sexuality in films and then
recount the multitude of reactions of various stakeholders, including responses from the Catholic
church, newspaper mogul Randolph Hearst, the Women s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) and
concerned public officials among many others. Ultimately, the book describes how Hays is able to
ward off federal intervention and Breen is able to enforce censorship of the Hays Production Code in
the film industry.
The book utilizes a wide variety of primary sources of films from the 1920s onward. Leff and
Simmons also use many newspaper and magazine articles that analyze censorship in films. They
utilize these sources to illustrate examples of how films went from having

Theme Of Altruism In Good To A Fault
ISU Response 1
The novel Good to a Fault by Marina Endicott, primarily revolves around the theme of altruism. The
novel begins with Clara who gets into a car accident with another family who happens to already be
dealing with many other conflicts. After the accident occurred, the mother of the victim s household
was admitted to the hospital and found out that she had cancer. It appears that the family were
financially unstable and that they were living in their vehicle moving from town to town, which met
with an accident. As a result of guilt and pure kindness, Clara takes in the kids and their grandmother
to their home. On the outside this seems like a kind, selfless act, but in her thoughts the readers
understand that she sometimes does not believe that being so generous to others that she barely knows
is good. The text so far and the overall theme of altruism made me question points in relation to my
inquiry topic: To what extent does literature have the ability to oversimplify reality? The author writes
primarily in third person, but also writes from each person s perspective through dialogue. The fact
that the author chose to include Clara s thoughts in addition to her actions, really enhanced my
understanding of Clara s personality. At first, Clara seemed like a kind individual helping others from
the goodness of her heart, but as I progressed into the novel I realized that she feels that being kind is
only solution and is pressured by it.

Drosophila Melanogaster Cross Lab Report
The Drosophila melanogaster Cross
David Tyer
I. INTRODUCTION
The Drosophila melanogaster is one of genetics most studied organisms. This is due to the Drosophila
melanogaster being an excellent model organism. The Drosophila melanogaster has a short lifespan
and is genetically similar to humans (Adams 2000). This experiment had three major goals. The first
goal of this experiment was to determine which eye colors, body colors and wing type are dominant or
recessive. The second goal was to determine if the gene for eye colors, body colors and wing type are
on an autosomal or a sex chromosome. The third goal was to determine if eye colors, body colors and
wing type are physically linked or independently assorting (Morris and Cahoon). First ... Show more

Should School Lunches Be Longer
Have you ever felt under a major time church when it came to school lunch? In a poll conducted in
2013 by National Public Radio, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Harvard School of
Public Health, 20 percent of parents of students from kindergarten through fifth grade told us that their
child gets 15 minutes or less to eat. School lunches should be longer because students feel rushed to
eat and having too little time to eat leads to unhealthy choices. The first reason school lunches should
be longer is because several students feel rushed to eat. Deborah Taylor, director of the Shawnee
School Nutrition Services in Oklahoma, told USA Today that when people look back on the childhood
obesity epidemic, they may blame the way kids rushed through meals, both at school and at home. It
takes more time to chew a whole apple than applesauce, Helen Phillips, president of the School
Nutrition Association, told USA Today. Eating an entrée salad takes longer than eating a cheeseburger
or chicken nuggets, because of the crunching ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With less than 20 minutes to eat the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics found students
ate 13 percent less of their main entree and 12 percent less of their vegetables. They drank 10 percent
less milk, too, compared with students who had 25 minutes or more to eat. Many children, especially
those from low income families, rely on school meals for up to half their daily energy intake, so it is
essential that we give students a sufficient amount of time to eat their lunches, Juliana Cohen, Rimm s
colleague at Harvard and the study s lead author, said in a statement. The U.S. government
recommends that children have a minimum of 20 minutes to actually eat their lunch. However, many
nutrition experts say even this is not enough for children to properly eat and digest their food before

Analysis Of Diving Into The Wreck By Adrienne Rich
Is it possible for words on a page to become a painting in the mind? After plunging into Adrienne Rich
s Diving into the Wreck, it is apparent that words on a page can come to life in the mind of the
readers. Rich uses a vast amount of describing words, and a setting of a scuba diver to allow readers
the ability to acknowledge and understand the difficulties life may imply upon humankind.
Throughout the next few paragraphs, it is evident that certain elements of poems can become a large
factor in allowing the reader to get more out of a poem, rather than just words on a page. In summary,
Adrienne Rich gives the reader a depiction of a person dealing with one or even many difficult
intricacies in life through the symbolization of scuba diving in a large body of water (Mays, 2014,
p.581). Whether that be national issues, personal relationships, the death of those close by, or even
more personal issues, the reader is able to relate with Rich s symbolization of a scuba diver getting
ready for an intense journey through a large, dark body of water. Scuba diving into a shipwreck is an
abstract way to relate the thoughts people bottle up inside their bodies into a larger, more meaningful
picture, which allows the reader to understand how issues weigh on the mind. In addition, Rich doesn
t just use simple words to create a symbolization, she precedes or follows those words with
meaningful adjectives which help to create a clearer appearance for the reader to imagine. In the

Persuasive Reflection Paper
I never really thought about the problem that was going on until it happened to me, it was a block hour
at my old school classes 6 12th grade were together. It was a normal day just like every other, we did
everything we were supposed to. We all gathered in the gym to do our group study thing that we
always did on Thursday.
We were asked to stand up to do the pledge, when suddenly, I noticed that some people were not
standing. When it was over, we sat back down and I turned to my friend and asked what was going on
and asked why they did not stand, she looked at me and said that it was because of the Black Lives
Matter thing that was going on and because Colin Kaepernick had kneeled during the anthem. I really
didn t know how to feel, I was more upset than anything because I was always taught to stand for the
pledge and respect the flag cause many people have fought and risked their lives for it everyday.
People were disrespecting it for a reason they don t even know simply because they saw it on T.V. and
want to join the bandwagon. I went to my principal after that and told her what had happen and how I
didn t think it was right. Therefore, the next day when I came to school they were all dressed in black
and were wearing the african garments. I at that point knew what they were doing. They were going to
protest in school the whole day. I was getting really dirty looks and things were said behind my back,
but I wasn t the only one. Another girl also had several things said

Nestled in the foothills on the western slope of the Sierra Nevadas adjacent to a beautiful river, La

small town, there was an automobile repair shop with two bays; the smell of gasoline and grease hang

high school when he was fourteen, can fix anything with a motor. The bakery, down the block and

should he ever have to step up. John s father, Nick Rivera, was the butcher and John grew up being
taught all of the way to butcher anything that came through his father s shop. Anything from a hog to
the occasional horse and rabbit all passed through the butcher shop. Leroy s mother, who maintained
the bakery where he was taught how to make bread, doughnuts, various rolls, and biscuits, raised
Leroy while schooling him to do all of the things she had known her entire life. Martha Jenkins, Leroy

Consequently, Leroy deeply understood every process that went into making every type food for the

What Is The Ethos Of School Uniform
School uniform enhances school unity and community spirit and gives every student an equal status,
regardless of race, religion or culture, whether they are from the upper, middle or working class
backgrounds. This leads to young people feeling secure as a group and less likely to be bullied for not
wearing the latest fashion trend, thus banning uniforms would be atrocious.
On Thursday June 11th last year, I had an experience that really changed my ideology on the school
uniform. My seven year old sister had always loved walking home from school in her favourite yellow
rain coat and Fair Isle patterned hat that our late grandmother knitted for her for Christmas. She never

benefits to parents is that school uniforms are more cost effective than regular apparel and 79%

annual cost of regular clothes per child to be £600. Without school uniform polices, parents may feel
pressure to compete with other families by purchasing fashionable clothes for their children. This
clearly shows that uniforms cut the costs for parents on their children s clothing as they do not have to

The Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt
The Muslim Brotherhood has been part politics in Egypt for more than 80 years. It was originally
formed by Hassan al Banna in 1928. The Muslim Brotherhood is a combination religious and political
group based on the belief that Islam is not just a religion, but a way of life. It dictates a separation
from secularism, returning to the rules of the Quran based on healthy families, communities, and
states. The brotherhood focused on two key principles. They are (1), the introduction of the Islamic
Sharia or way of life or principles, by controlling the affairs of state and society, and (2), working to
achieve unification of the Islamic countries and states, mainly among the Arab states, and liberating
them from foreign imperialism. The group concentrated on religion, education and social services. As
its membership grew, it moved into the political sphere, organizing protests against the Egyptian
government. The Brotherhood is the oldest and largest opposition group in Egypt. It has had
widespread support among Egypt s middle classes, and its members control many of the country s
professional organizations. Up until 2011, under Egyptian law, it banned all parties based solely on
religion. Sayyid Qutb, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood in the 1950s and 1960s, developed the
doctrine of jihad, and the radical group Hamas. It is believed to be an offshoot of the Palestinian
Muslim Brotherhood. Egypt s Islamists and the Muslim Brotherhood have a history of perseverance.

King Leopold II Of Belgium Colonized The Congo
King Leopold II of Belgium colonized the African country of Congo with the help of American
explorer Henry Stanley. Leopold desperately wanted the Congo to expand his small territory and to
secure his place in the world. To do this, he sent Stanley to gain treaties from tribe leaders in the
Congo River basin, from 1875 to 1884. Stanley succeeded in obtaining signatures through a
combination of trickery and force. Ever since then, the Congo was dealt a low blow by invidious,
violent takeovers. Leopold s ruthless reign lasted from 1885 to 1908, and then the Belgian government
took over for nearly five decades. The Congo gained complete independence from Belgium in 1960,
but still has a long way to go in order to become strong again. Overall, ... Show more content on

According to a report from the World Bank in 2015, the Congo is among the poorest countries in the
world. In contrast, a Congolese refugee of the Casement Report released in 1904 informed of the
brutality their family were subject to by Belgian soldiers. They recounted that We had to go further
and further into the forest... without food... we starved....leopards killed some of us... and others got
lost or died from exposure and starvation... soldiers said: Go! You are only beasts yourselves.
Additionally, another refugee from the same report disclosed that troops would often kill the
Congolese for the sake of rubber. Once, a soldier, pointing to a basket, said... look, only two hands!
That s nothing... I brought the white man 160 hands. The hands the soldier was referring to were those
of the Congolese workers who labored in dangerous forests to find rubber. Indigenous people were
denied sustenance, had their hands cut off for amusement, or were shot, at the whims of Belgian
soldiers. The meager wages paid to the Congolese could not be collected while the worker was
recovering from injury, which forced greater poverty to befall the people of Congo in the long run.
When the injury was permanent, such as a severed limb, families lost the little income they had. As a
result, many starved to death. This poverty was then handed down to further generations, creating a
ripple effect that can still be felt today. Over half a century later, Congo is an acutely poor nation. This
is the culmination of violence the Congolese faced during colonization. Without the cruelness of the
Belgian colonists, families would have enough money to buy proper nutrition for themselves, and
many more people would survive. Therefore, the end result of poverty in modern day Congo is a
direct consequence of the savagery inflicted upon the indigenous people during

Police officers may perform unlawful aggravated actions while people were looking. People that knew
the officer would say that needed how to handle reckless violators. People that may not know him
would contest and say big city crimes are always and these police officers have lack of control.
(Kelling) A crack in the windows, does that create a smaller hole or bigger problem for crime.
C. Community policing was brought to New York City.
Police had to maintain their assertion. Rights were misconceived only for the rich people. Their
money was thought to give them poser to avoid punishment. Detectives came about to professionally
execute a proper arrest. Police violence had to be halted, however crimes evolved like bad habit. Riots
and organized surfaced like a nightmare for law enforcement. Gangs were more of an issue in New
York. One arrest of a gang can put the community in fear. Community policing of neighborhoods
started in neighborhoods they surveyed the streets without performing law action. Citizens were
comforted with the calm and strict society. The second concept that rose was the vigilante. Back then
there were three hundred fifty vigilante groups. Fortunately, vigilante groups have detained and are a
scarce subject today. They just wanted to ensure that crime does not happen like suspects say will not
happen.

Labor Rights In The Crucible
Arthur Miller s play, The Crucible, takes place during the events of the Salem Witch trials in 1692.
Miller states in his opening: When a man rises above the individual villainy displayed, one can only
pity them all, just as we shall be pitied someday. It is impossible for man to organize himself without
repression, and the balance has yet to be struck between order and freedom. Miller s parallels between
Salem of 1692 and America of the 1950s apply to present day American society in racism, sexism, and
workers rights. Children rely on their parents to nurture them as other mammalian offspring do on
theirs. However, without the labor rights activists fighting against excessive working hour
requirements, child labor, and minimal pay, most American children would be facing adult
responsibilities such as paying for utility bills and meals, and would have minimal parent child
relationships. Labor rights activists were suppressed by powerful corporations or companies and
corrupt politicians, just as Miller stated, It is impossible for man to organize himself without
repression, and the balance has yet to be struck between order and freedom. However, the Labor

Linking the Abolitionist Movement to the Textile Industry
Introduction
The abolitionist movement would never link to the textile industry if the subject of slave labor were
not the cotton grown in the southern part of the United States. Later on, slaves from the south found
new owners in the middle states that embraced cotton growing (Ferrell, 2006). The development of
commerce created a dependence of slave labor because cotton was the raw material for textile mills
that supported the industrial cities that were around Boston. Beyond the direct labor of slaves in
picking and putting cotton in bales for shipment, other laborers also faced slavelike conditions in the
industrial mills where they toiled under grueling conditions (Porterfield, 2006). The quest to free
factory workers and the desire of the workers to have a better say for their involvement in the industry
became an obvious attraction to the quest of the abolitionists.
The Slave Connection to the Textile Industry
When southerners confronted the issue of abolition of slavery, some thought it was unacceptable,
others were not so sure of the way forward, and some of them actually went ahead and freed their
slaves. The southern economy depended on cotton and benefited mostly from the cheap and efficient
slave labor. Many thought that whites would not want to work in the farms, even after they were paid.
The payment itself would become a significant cost to the southern economy and hamper their profit
margins already enjoyed with the slavery boom.

Analysis Of The New 2015 Budweiser Lost Puppy
Budweiser Lost Puppy This is an analysis of the new 2015 Budweiser Lost Puppy commercial ad.
This ad was interesting, the speaker is obviously Budweiser; however, typical beer ads would focus on
American audiences over the age of 21. The commercial has no spoken language so it can apply to
any language and any country as long as the same kind of values demonstrated visually are shared.
The audience is not as broad as beer drinkers; maybe it s a specific kind of beer drinkers as well.
Perhaps one who has affection for puppies? One who buys into the classic American dream style
image of sharing a cold brew with a buddy next to your dog and horse. If that sounds nice to you, you
re their target audience. Their purpose is obviously simple; sell more beer. But the way they have all
wrapped it up is interesting. It begins with a Caucasian male, maybe an American in his 30 s, wearing
a hat saying Budweiser. This scene says multiple things about Budweiser, Budweiser is for hard
workers, Budweiser is for cowboys, etc. Then in the next scene a puppy suddenly emerges from a
haystack, from that moment the audience becomes attached to the puppy. It turns into an emotional
commercial in that moment where the puppy pops out of the haystack. That puppy that we ve become
attached to runs outside since it s typical for a little puppy to be curious, and that horse gives him a
little neigh so that continuous to foster the relationship between the two animals. These two have

Champion Of The World By Maya Angelou Analysis
Both Maya Angelou of Champion of the World , and Amy Tan of Fish Cheeks write anecdotal short
stories which express their isolation from the dominant Anglo culture while delving into deeper detail
as to why they feel such a great sense of alienation. Although both stories take place within different
settings and time periods, a primary commonality they share comes from within the detachment they
feel as minorities within a larger, more dominant community. Each author expertly employs literary
devices such as description and narrative style within their writing to express the primary underlying
message of their anecdotal stories; however, placing emphasis on the descriptive aspects of a story and

In Tan s story, objects of familiarity and a myriad of overwhelming are described in intense detail.
Therefore, Tan s heavy emphasis of description throughout her story resonates more strongly with the
reader. By thoroughly analyzing the text, we can observe how and why the literary element which the
authors place more focus on is an important aspect toward expressing the theme of cultural isolation,
as well as to how Tan s usage of description give the audience more insight as a result.
In the short story Champion of the World by Maya Angelou, the author s sense of alienation from the
dominant culture of her time period is expressed through her distinct telling of the

Sociology Deviant Essay
Being Deviant for a Day In this project I decided to be over talkative in the sense that whenever
someone spoke to me and asked how I was doing or what was new in my life, I would go above and
beyond what they probably were expecting me to do so. So for me being a deviant in this way made
perfect sense because I normally don t talk much about myself, more of a listener than anything. I
started everything out by going about my normal day, errands and going to my college classes. So I
went to Wal Mart of all places and not even five minutes into my shopping there I ran into two friends
that I haven t seen in a long time, and of course they said, So how have you been? Anything new
going on in your life? So I went into the deviance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

what I said about being pregnant again they gave me encouraging words that since I m doing so well
with my daughter now that I will do even better with my son when he arrives. Also that I m a great
mother and even though yes it is stressful I will make it through it all. As for how I felt during this
whole experiment I just didn t feel right, as in the sense that I normally don t speak that much about
myself at all. So for me being a deviant in this way made perfect sense because I normally I am more
of a listener than anything. At first I didn t know if I was even going to be able to pull this deviant
behavior off. It was hard for me to keep a straight face, I kept laughing cause it just not me to talk so
much. It was pretty funny that I acted so much like someone else. But later on I noticed that it was
nice to do something different, it gave me a whole new perspective on things. Made me think about
how I am with my friends when they are talking to me. Made me more aware of how I respond not
only verbally but also non verbally, because as I experienced it was crucial how I perceived how
everyone reacted to me. I learned that the

During walking and running, leg muscles produce forces that impact the tibiofemoral joint. These
forces can have a negative impact on the development, health and maintenance of the cartilage and
meniscus in that joint (and increased load on the knees and the tibiofemoral joint can result in
osteoarthritis). The tibiofemoral load is varied depending on the muscle coordination patterns. The
laboratory created a musculoskeletal model of subject to analyze the tibiofemoral load, and an
optimization framework to calculate the load from muscle coordination. Using the model and
optimization framework, the laboratory was able to understand the impact of different muscle
coordination on the tibiofemoral load. The laboratory was able to precisely predict tibiofemoral forces
when compared to in vivo measurements during the early stance phase, but overshot its prediction
during the late stance phase. The over prediction of the tibiofemoral load was due to the extended
activity of the gastrocnemius and the rectus femoris. The laboratory was able to modify the activity of
these two muscles to increase resemblance with in vivo measurements. The laboratory was also able to
identify distinct changes in muscle activity that could decrease tibiofemoral load. A decrease in
activation of the rectus femoris and gastrocnemius and an increase in activation of the soleus, gluteus
medium and uniarticular hip flexors can decrease the tibiofemoral forces during late

including the council chamber, conference hall and various meeting and conference rooms of different
sizes, both modern and heritage. Following budget cuts from the government, BCC requires an
immediate action towards making substantial savings by 2017/18. Generating income has been an

To establish a reputable business that is active and current with trends required to reach customers on
various platforms and provide an immediate highest level of service. It is advised BCC to focus in a
specific geographical region because location can be a huge influencing factor, as majority of their
customers will be based near or around the business (Dahl, 2014). According to Google trends, Bristol
had the popularity search rate of 96% for the term wedding venues in the last 12 months (figure 1).
(Figure 1: Google trends) BCC s target market should consist of recently engaged couples around the
South West region (Bristol, Bath and Gloucester) who are aged between 18 35 years old with stable
income and planning their wedding or civil partnership. 34% of women regularly browse inspiration

The Lice Short Story
A Home for the Lice Have you ever wanted to know why lice chose people and why they chose our
hair? Well, I have an explanation for it. I have the story of all of their adventures. It all starts from the
beginning of time. From the start, lice have always loved jungle like places. For example, grass. That
is where they commenced. They loved it there, they built forts, food storages, and all sorts of things.
That is until the bug came around. It had wings the size of the grass and claws the size of three blocks
of dirt. This may not sound very big to us humans, but to lice, the size of dust, it was terrifying.
Anyways, the bug would raid their forts and destroy everything. So the lice packed up what they had
left and went off in search of another place to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some lice were hopeful, but some were hopeless for they had such terrible luck. The weary lice first
went to the lips. That didn t work out because the lips were constantly moving, shaking lice families
off to the ground. Also when the women put on lipstick the lice would become trapped in what seemed
like quicksand. The lice packed up and went to the nose. Many of the lice adored it there. It was the
perfect climate for them. Unfortunately they moved there in the winter when the humans had colds.
Sneezes were like a hurricane, runny noses were like mudslides, and a blowing nose was like a
tsunami. They shortly decided it wasn t safe for them to live there. Once again they packed up and left.
Their next stop was the eyelashes and eyebrows. It wasn t very hairy or concealing, but it had to work
for the time being. They quickly found this would not work either. Humans would pluck their
eyebrows and pluck the lice out with them. They would also put mascara on their eyelashes causing
the lice to be stuck in what felt like tar. The worst part was the crying. It was like a tsunami similar to
the nose, but 10 times worse. The desperate lice loaded up their things and

Essay On Police Militarization
My topic is the militarization of police forces within the United States. I feel as if this is a very
important topic within the Criminal Justice System that needs to be addressed.
Even without paying strict attention to the news media, a person will still find it difficult to avoid
hearing stories about heavily armed SWAT teams, smashing in a door in the dead of night, just to
search for drugs. It is a practice that is becoming more and more common. And as it becomes more
common, so do the horror stories associated with it: mistaken identities and needlessly ravaged homes,
unnecessary shootings of both people and pets, flashbang grenades being detonated near infants, etc.
America s neighborhoods are not a battleground, it s citizens are not enemy combatants, and it s police
are not soldiers.
There are some very fundamental and very important differences between the military and the police.
The armed forces exist in order to protect the country by engaging an enemy in combat, often on
foreign ground. The goal of the military is to physically destroy this enemy; it s soldiers are trained to
kill. Take the eleventh line of the U.S. Army s Soldier s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay On Should The Uk Leave The European Union
The United Kingdom made the right choice to leave the European Union, because they no longer have
to pay membership fees, it makes it harder for terrorists to get in, and they can gain more
independence. The UK left because they didn t want to pay membership fees to the EU. The UK will
saving money not have to pay membership fees. According to Full Fact, The UK pays more into the
EU budget than it gets back. ( The UK and EU Membership Fees, 2017) This is saying that when the
UK paid the EU, they did receive money but they gave the EU more, than what they got. In 2016 the
UK spend £13.1 billion in membership fees to the EU. Overall the UK got back £4.5 billion of that, so
in the end the UK loses £8.6 billion. This fact shows that leaving the EU would save money because

This makes it easier for terrorists to get inside the UK and cause damage. The UK doesn t want

Symbolism In The Slave By Isaac Bashevis Singer
The novel The Slave by Isaac Bashevis Singer is built on the life experiences of a Jewish character
named Jacob and a gentile woman he falls in love with named Wanda. Jacob is a scholar who was sold
to pagan peasant farmers after his immediate family was murdered in the Chmielnicki massacres. Jan
Bzik is Jacob s master and Wanda is Bzik s daughter. Due to the strong love between the two, Jacob
struggles to maintain his Judaism as Jewish law prohibits Jews from marrying gentiles. Conversion of
a gentile is a capital offense in Poland, but Wanda chooses to take on the religion of the Jews for the
sake of the love she shares with Jacob. The two relocate to a town called Pilitz where Wanda hides her
gentile identity and Jacob helps her develop a new persona named Sarah. As the two grow together,
Jacob realizes that God does not control his life. He states that God watches over one while Satan
tempts one into presenting malevolent behavior. He tells Wanda that it is up to him to choose between
good and evil. This moment highlights the struggles he faces with his faith.
Throughout the novel, it is evident that Wanda falls in love with Jacob. She takes care of him and
makes multiple sacrifices for him. She travels from the village and brings special foods to Jacob while
he takes care of cattle in the mountains. She cares for him when he is sick and completes duties for
him from Friday evenings to Saturday evenings as it is against Judaism to work during these hours.

Historically, research with vulnerable groups experiencing health inequities has been problematic
(Quinlan, 2009; Smith, 2012). The imposition of research agendas and failure to engage research
participants at the very onset of a research project can yield findings that are incomplete and
misrepresent the knowledge and resources of those being researched (Wilson Neville, 2009). For
example, throughout the world Indigenous groups have been researched to their detriment, often with

Vla Mobile Sticker Campaign
The VLA mobile sticker campaign is a problem for many reasons. The first reason is that it
manipulates its vast audience through negative, emotional appeals by sending a vivid message that
affects them in a personal way the well being of their child could be at risk. The VLA s mobile sticker
arouses an emotional, and cognitive response out of parents by embedding the idea that vaccines are
harmful for children and setting up an illusion that their healthcare providers have deceived them. The
VLA appeals to many different emotions such as fear, anger, hatred, and distrust. When people are
fearful, they are easily overwhelmed with feelings and tend to make irrational decisions. Anger is
another powerful emotion that is used in persuasion. In the book, Techniques of Propaganda and
Persuasion, author Magedah Shabo explains, Anger often grows from feelings of fear and uncertainty.
Anger is also a very common reaction to injustice, humiliation, or betrayal (117). Following fear and
anger is hatred and distrust, another powerful motivator in persuasion. When emotions such as fear
and anger towards a specific target have been established, hatred and distrust develop and limit a

Against Fatalism in Western Europe
It is the opinion of The Author that the most intellectually exhausted debate in the Western European
tradition revolves around the existence of free will. This question has been so thoroughly ground to a
pulp that if you look up the Wikipedia article on it, one of the first things you will encounter is a
simple graphical taxonomy of the possible positions one can take on the issue, which allows one,
assuming one believes that their position has not been preordained, to determine where one stands
without dragging out the same fatigued arguments for yet another obnoxious ballyhoo. While other
traditions have also dealt with this subject extensively, they have, for the most part, either been
prescient or blessed enough to find other, less mind numbingly intractable issues to validate their
participation in humanity s unofficial, though remarkably uncontested universal pastime, namely
blowing each other to smithereens, which, despite it s best efforts, inclusive humanism has roundly
failed to supplant, although it may be winning the war while losing all of the battles (Pinker). It may
even be possible that the intractability of this debate has contributed to the resounding success of the
various and sundry teams that Western Europe has sent to the international league, since, as a central
aspect of the schism between Protestant and Catholic dogmas, it may have directly or indirectly
provided the ideological justification for the vast majority of European religiopolitical

Analysis Of Under The Influence By Scott Sanders
Robin Williams once expressed that [a]n alcoholic is someone who can violate his standards faster
than he can lower them. Many instances in Under the Influence by Scott Sanders displays he idea of
depletion of character triggered from alcohol. Sanders reveals the contrast in behavior of alcoholics
while sober and under the influence. Sanders also delves into the view of family members of an
alcoholic and how astute they become in seeing signs of an alcoholic. To achieve this review one of
the important elements of Under the Influence is that Sanders does not make this experience feel
singular. Sanders goal of writing Under the Influence is understanding and describing the reach and
affect of an alcoholic family member. Sanders pursues the understanding of his goal through bringing
together the concepts of flashback and reflection. The first section there is a combination of the two
concepts of flashback and reflections. The involvement of constant flashbacks is expressive of the
scaring depth of memories. These memories permanent of the terror experienced. The detail of the
fear is from the uncertainty of how far his father would go while in a drunken rage. In addition, there
is strong language presented to develop the goal. Particularly using statistics as a comfort and
description of using it against memory like an ice pack against a bruise. This simile is important to

Space Debris in Low Earth Orbit
An unfortunate consequence of man exploring off planet has been the steady growth of junk from
derelict and unused spacecraft. According to NASA there are over half a million pieces of junk in low
earth orbit. Because these pieces of junk travel at orbital speeds of around 17,500 miles per hour, they
posses tremendous amounts of energy and are capable of doing substantial damage (NASA). Most of
the dangerous hard to track debris comes from collisions (NASA). When old satellites are allowed to

A variety of techniques are being developed to try and put this principle into use, for constructing all
sorts of things in low earth orbit. A proposed method of recycling satellites is to tow old satellites out
to mars where the materials could be used by future colonies. Tom Markusic CEO of startup firefly
systems, has a plan to do just that (Howell). Firefly systems plans to use solar powered craft to slowly
and efficiently move things from earths orbit to mars. Once there they could be broken down by
colonists in orbit for their nuts bolts and various other components (Howell). This could actually
create a much needed market for supplies if space travel becomes commercialized. If part is needed
part way through a mission and it can be found on a derelict satellite, Tom Markusic s company could
be the missing link that could retrieve a bolt or solar panel and bring it to whoever needs it eliminating
the need for an expensive launch from the earths surface.
Another potential way of recycling space craft is increasing their longevity. Often times only a single
component fails taking down all of a satellite s systems. If they are designed modularly then satellites
would only require a simple part replacement to be working again. DARPA is currently researching a
craft that would dock with satellites, assess damage, and potential make repairs (Howell). Having

The Divine Command Theory
The Divine Command Theory seeks to explain what makes an act ethically right or wrong in
accordance to God s will. This concept asserts that a morally right action was commanded by God.
Conversely, an act is reflected as morally wrong if it goes against the will of God. Criticism begs the
questions that if God commanded us to commit an act of cruelty and inflict suffering onto other
human beings just for the sake of His will, would that act still be considered morally right to perform?
Moreover, would it be morally wrong for us to deny the participation in said cruelty? With these
questions in mind, Robert Adams offered an amendment to the Divine Command Theory by clarifying
some aspects of the original philosophy and pointing out some conditions

Summary Of Betty Friedan s The Feminine Mystique
The 1960s were a time of change for many Americans, whether it be dealing with the women s
liberation movement, civil rights, or the anti war movement. During this period, many issues that had
laid beneath the surface were brought out, it was a time for change. The second wave of feminism was
established in the sixties, beginning when many women addressed the topics that angered them in the
world, specifically pertaining to their own rights. The sixties brought up many feelings, feelings that
had been buried or held back for some time, Betty Friedan has been one of those many people to
address her feelings and put it out in the world. Friedan wrote a book named The Feminine Mystique,
which has become an international bestseller and has sold over one million copies since its release in
1963(citation, from opening of book). Her book focused on the societal expectations that kept women
in the home for many years. Friedan captured the anger and frustration many women felt, and offered
ways for women to recapture their lives back. Betty Friedan s book, The Feminine Mystique, launched
a conversation about women s roles in society, which started the second wave of feminism where
society began to see women as self reliant, and capable to do the tasks men had been doing as long as
time.
Friedan s article The Problem that Has No Name grabbed the attention of any women who would
listen, she called attention to the standards that were supposed to make women feel content and

Socially Responsible Design Essay
Socially responsible Design
Understanding how to design for the people
Despite marketing forces, design can overcome the barriers/external forces in order to maintain its
integrity and to practice responsibly/ethically.
What is it to be socially responsible? Social responsibility is the idea that designers and businesses
should accept their social responsibilities and not be exclusively focused on maximizing profits.
Social responsibility demands developing businesses to create a positive relationship to the society or
market that they operate in. Within this essay I will be covering the history of socially responsible
design involving key figures and projects, case studies discussing companies and designers that

These different approaches demonstrate the range of issues that have been impacted on by the design
movement. In the 1960s, the ecological movement in the United States drew attention to large
environmental issues such as high levels of pollution and the depletion of the world s resources.
Designers were pressed to find a greater range of implications of their actions in terms of societies in
the future. This concept later lead to an upsurge of Green Design and eco design due to an increased
interest from businesses and consumers. Green Design aims at environmental issues as recycling,
energy efficiency or design for durability. Eco design takes a product s life cycle into account, from
material extraction through to its eventual disposal; along side this, designers should attempt to link
environmental issues with the social and economic factors related to quality of life, this is also know
as Sustainable Design . Eco design projects have developed environmentally friendly packaging,
redesigned textile ranges and changed manufacturing processes. An example of a company that
develops eco friendly packaging is Biopac . Biopac are the UK s leading supplier of eco friendly food
packaging and catering disposables. They use

Mussolini Fascism Analysis
The popularity of Mussolini s fascism among returning veterans was not only because of the
comradery that Mussolini shared with them, but also the role that veterans played in fascismo. Welk
(1938, 8 9), notes a publication in which, Mussolini campaigned for the right of returned soldiers to
lead Italy towards becoming a great nation and a new world power. In order to understand how
powerful this image was, it is important to understand the Post war Italian economy. Though Italy had
claimed victory in 1918, it came at the cost of the lives of approximately 600 thousand Italian soldiers,
and nearly everyone in Italy outside of war profiteers exited the war more impoverished. Particularly,
the transition from war to peace time production was a slow and painful process. Thus, while Italy
claimed military victory, the post war economy was not only crippled but also disorganized. This left
laborers eager to lend their ears to a solution, and two powerful but contrasting ideologies to vie for
their support. The first to consider is Communism. A year before, communism had claimed an
important victory in the Russian revolution of 1917. The decisive victory of the Russian proletariat in
Welk s (1938, 9 11) opinion provoked Italian communists to encourage the same in Italy. The
following years were characterized by strikes, and worker s seizing the means of production, as the
working class attempted to seize power throughout the nation. One notable example occurred on April
10, 1919,

Forensic Science Essay example
Forensic Science has contributed to our world a great deal. People often misunderstand Forensic
Science and believe it is much more capable than it really is. As a matter of fact what you see on T.V.
is around 80% false or over exaggerated in some way. To Start of, Criminal Investigation is the largest
and most known form of Forensic Science. Some of the more known areas include; Fingerprinting,
Ballistics, DNA Identification, Fiber Samples, Computer Animation, Documentation analysis, etc. To
get this out of the way in the beginning, what you saw on last night s law and order is far from the
truth. Things they do in a matter of hours take months at a time, and most of the time aren t even
plausible concepts. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Computer Animation is another valuable aspect in Forensics. Many People believe that they are
getting virtually framed , and that computer animations are inconclusive. This has been shown to be
wrong and is said to be much more accurate then an actual man reenactment. Computers are able to
precisely pinpoint every single aspect of the reenactment. Some argue that this may Create reality and
not illustrate it, but that s up to the court to decide. An example of how this works was used when a
snowplow struck an Iowa State basketball players car killing him. The plow driver was going 10 miles
over the speed limit. This video was recreated and showed a fatal blow the side of the deceased s car.
Although he was speeding this movie was recreated with the plow going the speed limit and he still
would have been fatally killed. The Iowa student didn t look when pulling out into the intersection if
you re wondering. Also, Forensic Scientists use computer animation to simulate the aging or
appearance change in a criminal or deceased individual. Though this is a great technique, things
cannot always be exactly 100% certain on the reconstruction. A lot of the deciding whether this if
valid, is up too the jury souly. This can even help provide the cause of death in a badly degraded
badly.
Documentation Examination is another very important aspect in Forensic Science.

Gypsies In The 19th Century
For many generations, gypsies were forced to conform to society in many ways such as not being
allowed speak their own language and having laws that outlawed their nomadic lifestyles. Imagine it
being against the law to speak your own language! Today, many gypsies are finally able to embrace
their lineage across the globe. The gypsies were able to overcome the oppression inflicted on their
culture by resisting the outside world using different methods. Many people say actions speak louder
than words. However, in the gypsies case they used both actions and words to overcome the
oppression. Their language, Romani, is an unwritten language that has many hidden meanings that can
t be directly translated to other languages. In addition, traditional ... Show more content on

Whether it was keeping their language and customs hidden from non gypsies, participating in their
traditional jobs, telling white lies, or pretending to participate in a certain religion the gypsies were
able to overcome the oppression inflicted on their culture. Today, many gypsies are proud of their
lineage and display their pride by performing traditional Romani music, opening herb shops, and by
practicing their religion and customs. Groups such as Gogol Bordello fuse traditional Romany music
with punk to create their increasingly popular sound (theguardian.org). Many people do not know that
many of the songs that they listen to has most likely been influenced by traditional gypsy music.
Throughout Europe, the gypsies have made a large impact on the fashion industry and the music
industry. Not only are gypsies embracing their own culture but many people around the world are too.
Although gypsies have been repeatedly oppressed over the past 100 years, the gypsies and many
people in the world are beginning to embrace and encourage the preservation of their

Counseling Ethics Case Study Essay
In the case study of Gwen, there is one major problem presented. That problem is whether it is ethical
for a supervisor to counsel his supervisee. I think that Gwen is going through the grieving process
after learning about her mother s condition and is in a vulnerable spot. She feels like she cannot
continue her work with hospice patients because of personal feelings. Ken thinks that Gwen is a great
therapist and does not want to see her give up. He also feels like he would be the most effective person
to give Gwen counseling, because of their trusting relationship. I think that this would be a bad idea
and could cross professional boundaries. The Ethical Guidelines for Counseling Supervisors strongly
suggest against a supervisor entering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He might also present a biased decision because he thinks Gwen is a great counselor and does not
want to see her quit, which could be the best thing for Gwen s well being. There was another way of
dealing with this situation. Ken should have referred Gwen to another therapist to work on her
problems and let her decide what the best path to choose is. He should have respected the professional
boundaries of his career and known that the situation he was entering was potentially unethical.
Extending the boundary beyond supervision can complicate the supervisory relationship. The same
types of ethical issues still apply, if Ken had recommended to Gwen that she temporarily discontinue
her field placement, and enter therapy in his private practice. He still has the establishment of the
supervisor supervisee relationship with Gwen; it is just temporarily on hold. It still creates a dual
relationship that can potentially be harmful and the conflict of interest can still apply. The situation
can also effect Ken s reputation and the reputation of this profession. Frederic G. Reamer (2007)
quoted, The current National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics, unlike its
predecessors, includes numerous standards pertaining to dual relationships involving social work
supervisors, consultants, educators, and field instructors (standards 3.01[b,c] and 3.02[d]). As in
relationships with clients, social workers who serve as

Love in the Time of Cholera Essay
Love is a powerful emotion that can cause people to act in abnormal ways. In the novel, Love in the
Time of Cholera, the main character Florentino Ariza falls passionately in love with Fermina Daza. He
immediately spends hours composing poetic love letters to Fermina as his entire life becomes
dedicated to loving her. Fermina s father, who greatly disapproves of the relationship between the two,
decides to take his daughter to travel throughout the Caribbean. After many years of separation, when
Fermina finally sees Florentino for the first time since she had been back in Hispaniola, all of her love
immediately disappears after realizing she does not actually love Florentio. From that day on,

Devastated by the loss of Fermina, Florentino spends months sick and unable to go on with his life. As
the years go by since his rejection by Fermina, he finds himself in a web of love affairs with women
from all walks of life. Although he goes against his rule that he must remain a virgin until he can
finally be with Fermina, he never marries or has children. The scars of losing his first and only love
makes it impossible for Florentino to ever settle down, get married, have a family, or even a stable job.
In comparison, David Lambert, the main character of the novel A Scientific Romance , also fails to
progress in life after the loss of his true love. David s life seems to deteriorate when he loses his lover
Anita. He later spends years searching for her around the globe. It becomes clear that David has never
moved on from loving Anita as he says, ... sail back to Anita, to my parents; restore truncated lives,
rebuild my own. (Wright 62). His only hope to ever return to being happy will only happen if he can
go to the past and be with Anita and his family. David, much like Florentino, spends his life consumed
with thoughts of Anita. He never marries or has children and lives life lonely and miserable. The loss
of both Florentino and David s only true loves prevent them from developing as individuals.
Secondly, the authors of these novels use the motif of misery caused by lost love. After Florentino is
rejected by Fermina and then later finds out she is soon

  • 2. Temperance And Prohibition Propaganda Religion was the main reason behind Temperance and Prohibition movement. The Second Great Awakening was a Protestant revival that started around the1800 s in the United States. The revivals attracted hundreds of new followers to the Protestant denomination. Massachusetts passed a Temperance law in 1838. If the alcohol where in quantities less than 15 gallons it was banned, The Temperance law was repealed two years later. In 1846 Maine passed the one of the first state prohibition law . Many other states followed by the time the Civil War began in 1861. The amendment went into effect about a year later, 33 states had already authorized their own prohibition legislation. The National Prohibition Act. Provided guidelines for the federal enforcement of prohibition. Championed by representative Andrew Volstead of Mississippi as the Volstead Act . Even after President Woodrow Willison veto, the Volstead Act was passed by congress. The act was passed on October 28, 1919. It was up to the Treasury Department/ Internal Revenue Service IRS for the enforcement of the Volstead Act using Prohibition agents employed through the IRS. It was eventually transferred to the Justice Department. Most of the enforcers could be bribed by the bootleggers. The government had fewer than 1,600 low paid, poorly trained prohibition agents for the entire country. The public reaction to the introduction of prohibition was mixed. Less than one hour after prohibition took effect six gunmen hijacked a train in Chicago and stole over $100,000 worth of whiskey that was marked for medicinal use . Prohibition led to organized crime. speakeasies, bootleggers, bathtub gin, and a national wildness called the roaring twenties. Prohibition turned the small gangs that existed in the early 20th century into the powerful mafias that are still around today. A huge public demand for alcohol, made a very ... • 3. Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) In late 2001, an amateur astronomer happened upon an uncharacteristically bright object in the Monocerotis constellation (Figure 1). Over the next several months the object went through periods of intense brightness the likes of which had rarely been seen before. My research this summer was to use a computer simulation to better understand what may have caused this strange event known as V838 Mon. In order to understand what may have caused the bright outbursts, it is necessary to try and make a model of the event that caused them. To make this model, we implement a Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) code called Starsmasher. The code calculates the movements of many small particles to replicate the movement of a fluid, such as a liquid or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, an ever present goal is to make the simulation more physically accurate to achieve the best results possible without spending too much computation time. The beginning of my research was spent adjusting the conditions to try to fit an outcome that we wanted. The outcomes included how many times the two stars would collide, the times between when the stars collided, and the peak in the brightness of the system. The latter half of my research project was spent primarily trying to improve different aspects of the simulation code. Primarily how transparent the gases should be at different distances to the center of the collision. The transparencies can change how bright the star is measured to be as well as the temperature of the star, two very important sets of data for modelling. It depends on the types of gases and molecules present in the system and the temperature and radiation near those molecules. This gives the simulation a better match to what the astronomers actually observed (Figure 2). I increased the speed of a splotting routine tenfold and we are working on a method to better resolve the distance of different gases in the collision at different times. This faster splot will not only be useful for my research, it will also be used in a majority of future projects carried out in the research ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In former, It focus on adding quality of service in only on cloud infrastructure In later case, It focuses on adding quality of service between cloud infrastructure and multimedia infrastructure. In this research we focusing on how cloud can provide quality of service with help of multimedia applications. According to the properties of multimedia services, similar types of multimedia services is processed through cluster servers. Each Media edge cloud is having three clusters such as Storage, central processing unit, graphical process unit (GPU). All media related applications will be processed by GPU. Storage types of media applications will be processed through storage cluster. To improve the performance of media cloud, cloud proxy is proposed to reduce latency. The mobile media proxy is designed to deal with mobile multimedia computing. Mobile caching is included to process the mobile applications because, Mobile applications need to perform with minimum number of resources. • 5. Shoguns In Japan Impact of the Shoguns Shogunate Japan was the time of the samurai, where Japan was divided into clans and followed a leader called Shogun. This was the time from 1185 to 1868, from the time that the emperor was defeated and Japan converged to military rule until the Tokugawa Shogunate fell. Clearly, the Shoguns had a very significant impact on Japanese society throughout the hundreds of years that the Shoguns ruled. The impact of Shoguns on Japanese society can be demonstrated clearly when the social structure of Shogunate Japan is analysed. Shogunate Japanese society was separated into three main sections, the royal classes, the noble classes and the lower classes. Nearly all of the population was in the lower classes and the least amount of the society was in the royal classes. These categories branch off into Japanese classes. The classes in the royal category are the Emperor, Royal Family and Royal Priests. Although these classes are considered the highest classes in Japan, authority was not a word that ... The sword also had a curved edge so they could slash a person instantly after pulling it out. The samurai were expert archers and could fire accurately while on a moving horseback. The samurai started training at the age of five and spent years of constant practice on archery, swordsmanship, martial arts, poetry and religious discipline. The training was very strict and one master would even strike his students at random times until they learnt to never lose their guard. The art of the screwball comedy: madcap entertainment from the 1930s to today. McFarland, 2013. Milberg s book dives into the popular screwball comedy genre that arose in the 1930s. The first few chapters discuss the structure and major attributes of screwball comedies, highlighting the clever dialogue, battle of the sexes, and physical elements that harken back to slapstick comedy films. Popular tropes, such as ambitious newspaper reporters, and popular stars like Cary Grant from His Girl Friday are featured. Milberg takes an in depth look at how films within the genre derived ... Lexington (Ky.): University Press of Kentucky, 2001. Leff and Simmons book explores the history of film censorship, from the 1920 s Motion Picture Producers and Distributors Association (MPPDA), to the Hays Code, to the current MPAA rating system. The first half of the book gives a thorough background on the people who spearheaded the efforts to enact censorship in Hollywood, especially focusing on MPPDA President William Hays and Joseph Breen. Leff and Simmons detail the pre code vulgarity and blatant sexuality in films and then recount the multitude of reactions of various stakeholders, including responses from the Catholic church, newspaper mogul Randolph Hearst, the Women s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) and concerned public officials among many others. Ultimately, the book describes how Hays is able to ward off federal intervention and Breen is able to enforce censorship of the Hays Production Code in the film industry. The book utilizes a wide variety of primary sources of films from the 1920s onward. Leff and Simmons also use many newspaper and magazine articles that analyze censorship in films. • 7. Theme Of Altruism In Good To A Fault ISU Response 1 The novel Good to a Fault by Marina Endicott, primarily revolves around the theme of altruism. The novel begins with Clara who gets into a car accident with another family who happens to already be dealing with many other conflicts. After the accident occurred, the mother of the victim s household was admitted to the hospital and found out that she had cancer. It appears that the family were financially unstable and that they were living in their vehicle moving from town to town, which met with an accident. As a result of guilt and pure kindness, Clara takes in the kids and their grandmother to their home. On the outside this seems like a kind, selfless act, but in her thoughts the readers understand that she sometimes does not believe that being so generous to others that she barely knows is good. The text so far and the overall theme of altruism made me question points in relation to my inquiry topic: To what extent does literature have the ability to oversimplify reality? The author writes primarily in third person, but also writes from each person s perspective through dialogue. The fact that the author chose to include Clara s thoughts in addition to her actions, really enhanced my understanding of Clara s personality. At first, Clara seemed like a kind individual helping others from the goodness of her heart, but as I progressed into the novel I realized that she feels that being kind is only solution and is pressured by it. • 9. Should School Lunches Be Longer Have you ever felt under a major time church when it came to school lunch? In a poll conducted in 2013 by National Public Radio, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Harvard School of Public Health, 20 percent of parents of students from kindergarten through fifth grade told us that their child gets 15 minutes or less to eat. School lunches should be longer because students feel rushed to eat and having too little time to eat leads to unhealthy choices. The first reason school lunches should be longer is because several students feel rushed to eat. Deborah Taylor, director of the Shawnee School Nutrition Services in Oklahoma, told USA Today that when people look back on the childhood obesity epidemic, they may blame the way kids rushed through meals, both at school and at home. It takes more time to chew a whole apple than applesauce, Helen Phillips, president of the School Nutrition Association, told USA Today. Many children, especially those from low income families, rely on school meals for up to half their daily energy intake, so it is essential that we give students a sufficient amount of time to eat their lunches, Juliana Cohen, Rimm s colleague at Harvard and the study s lead author, said in a statement. • 10. Analysis Of Diving Into The Wreck By Adrienne Rich Is it possible for words on a page to become a painting in the mind? After plunging into Adrienne Rich s Diving into the Wreck, it is apparent that words on a page can come to life in the mind of the readers. Rich uses a vast amount of describing words, and a setting of a scuba diver to allow readers the ability to acknowledge and understand the difficulties life may imply upon humankind. Throughout the next few paragraphs, it is evident that certain elements of poems can become a large factor in allowing the reader to get more out of a poem, rather than just words on a page. In summary, Adrienne Rich gives the reader a depiction of a person dealing with one or even many difficult intricacies in life through the symbolization of scuba diving in a large body of water (Mays, 2014, p.581). Whether that be national issues, personal relationships, the death of those close by, or even more personal issues, the reader is able to relate with Rich s symbolization of a scuba diver getting ready for an intense journey through a large, dark body of water. Scuba diving into a shipwreck is an abstract way to relate the thoughts people bottle up inside their bodies into a larger, more meaningful picture, which allows the reader to understand how issues weigh on the mind. In addition, Rich doesn t just use simple words to create a symbolization, she precedes or follows those words with meaningful adjectives which help to create a clearer appearance for the reader to imagine. • 11. Persuasive Reflection Paper I never really thought about the problem that was going on until it happened to me, it was a block hour at my old school classes 6 12th grade were together. It was a normal day just like every other, we did everything we were supposed to. We all gathered in the gym to do our group study thing that we always did on Thursday. We were asked to stand up to do the pledge, when suddenly, I noticed that some people were not standing. When it was over, we sat back down and I turned to my friend and asked what was going on and asked why they did not stand, she looked at me and said that it was because of the Black Lives Matter thing that was going on and because Colin Kaepernick had kneeled during the anthem. I really didn t know how to feel, I was more upset than anything because I was always taught to stand for the pledge and respect the flag cause many people have fought and risked their lives for it everyday. People were disrespecting it for a reason they don t even know simply because they saw it on T.V. and want to join the bandwagon. I went to my principal after that and told her what had happen and how I didn t think it was right. Therefore, the next day when I came to school they were all dressed in black and were wearing the african garments. I at that point knew what they were doing. They were going to protest in school the whole day. I was getting really dirty looks and things were said behind my back, but I wasn t the only one. Another girl also had several things said ... • 13. What Is The Ethos Of School Uniform School uniform enhances school unity and community spirit and gives every student an equal status, regardless of race, religion or culture, whether they are from the upper, middle or working class backgrounds. This leads to young people feeling secure as a group and less likely to be bullied for not wearing the latest fashion trend, thus banning uniforms would be atrocious. On Thursday June 11th last year, I had an experience that really changed my ideology on the school uniform. My seven year old sister had always loved walking home from school in her favourite yellow rain coat and Fair Isle patterned hat that our late grandmother knitted for her for Christmas. She never had any designer wear but she didn t mind. Her school recently got ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 14. The Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt The Muslim Brotherhood has been part politics in Egypt for more than 80 years. It was originally formed by Hassan al Banna in 1928. The Muslim Brotherhood is a combination religious and political group based on the belief that Islam is not just a religion, but a way of life. It dictates a separation from secularism, returning to the rules of the Quran based on healthy families, communities, and states. The brotherhood focused on two key principles. They are (1), the introduction of the Islamic Sharia or way of life or principles, by controlling the affairs of state and society, and (2), working to achieve unification of the Islamic countries and states, mainly among the Arab states, and liberating them from foreign imperialism. The group concentrated on religion, education and social services. As its membership grew, it moved into the political sphere, organizing protests against the Egyptian government. The Brotherhood is the oldest and largest opposition group in Egypt. It has had widespread support among Egypt s middle classes, and its members control many of the country s professional organizations. Up until 2011, under Egyptian law, it banned all parties based solely on religion. Sayyid Qutb, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood in the 1950s and 1960s, developed the doctrine of jihad, and the radical group Hamas. It is believed to be an offshoot of the Palestinian Muslim Brotherhood. Egypt s Islamists and the Muslim Brotherhood have a history of perseverance. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. King Leopold II Of Belgium Colonized The Congo King Leopold II of Belgium colonized the African country of Congo with the help of American explorer Henry Stanley. Leopold desperately wanted the Congo to expand his small territory and to secure his place in the world. To do this, he sent Stanley to gain treaties from tribe leaders in the Congo River basin, from 1875 to 1884. Stanley succeeded in obtaining signatures through a combination of trickery and force. Ever since then, the Congo was dealt a low blow by invidious, violent takeovers. Leopold s ruthless reign lasted from 1885 to 1908, and then the Belgian government took over for nearly five decades. The Congo gained complete independence from Belgium in 1960, but still has a long way to go in order to become strong again. Overall, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to a report from the World Bank in 2015, the Congo is among the poorest countries in the world. In contrast, a Congolese refugee of the Casement Report released in 1904 informed of the brutality their family were subject to by Belgian soldiers. They recounted that We had to go further and further into the forest... without food... we starved....leopards killed some of us... and others got lost or died from exposure and starvation... soldiers said: Go! You are only beasts yourselves. Additionally, another refugee from the same report disclosed that troops would often kill the Congolese for the sake of rubber. Once, a soldier, pointing to a basket, said... look, only two hands! That s nothing... I brought the white man 160 hands. The hands the soldier was referring to were those of the Congolese workers who labored in dangerous forests to find rubber. Indigenous people were denied sustenance, had their hands cut off for amusement, or were shot, at the whims of Belgian soldiers. The meager wages paid to the Congolese could not be collected while the worker was recovering from injury, which forced greater poverty to befall the people of Congo in the long run. When the injury was permanent, such as a severed limb, families lost the little income they had. As a result, many starved to death. This poverty was then handed down to further generations, creating a ripple effect that can still be felt today. Over half a century later, Congo is an acutely poor nation. This is the culmination of violence the Congolese faced during colonization. Without the cruelness of the Belgian colonists, families would have enough money to buy proper nutrition for themselves, and many more people would survive. • 17. Labor Rights In The Crucible Arthur Miller s play, The Crucible, takes place during the events of the Salem Witch trials in 1692. Miller states in his opening: When a man rises above the individual villainy displayed, one can only pity them all, just as we shall be pitied someday. It is impossible for man to organize himself without repression, and the balance has yet to be struck between order and freedom. Miller s parallels between Salem of 1692 and America of the 1950s apply to present day American society in racism, sexism, and workers rights. Children rely on their parents to nurture them as other mammalian offspring do on theirs. However, without the labor rights activists fighting against excessive working hour requirements, child labor, and minimal pay, most American children would be facing adult responsibilities such as paying for utility bills and meals, and would have minimal parent child relationships. Labor rights activists were suppressed by powerful corporations or companies and corrupt politicians, just as Miller stated, It is impossible for man to organize himself without repression, and the balance has yet to be struck between order and freedom. • 18. Linking the Abolitionist Movement to the Textile Industry Introduction The abolitionist movement would never link to the textile industry if the subject of slave labor were not the cotton grown in the southern part of the United States. Later on, slaves from the south found new owners in the middle states that embraced cotton growing (Ferrell, 2006). The development of commerce created a dependence of slave labor because cotton was the raw material for textile mills that supported the industrial cities that were around Boston. Beyond the direct labor of slaves in picking and putting cotton in bales for shipment, other laborers also faced slavelike conditions in the industrial mills where they toiled under grueling conditions (Porterfield, 2006). The quest to free factory workers and the desire of the workers to have a better say for their involvement in the industry became an obvious attraction to the quest of the abolitionists. The Slave Connection to the Textile Industry When southerners confronted the issue of abolition of slavery, some thought it was unacceptable, others were not so sure of the way forward, and some of them actually went ahead and freed their slaves. The southern economy depended on cotton and benefited mostly from the cheap and efficient slave labor. Many thought that whites would not want to work in the farms, even after they were paid. The payment itself would become a significant cost to the southern economy and hamper their profit margins already enjoyed with the slavery boom. Defenders of slavery in the ... This ad was interesting, the speaker is obviously Budweiser; however, typical beer ads would focus on American audiences over the age of 21. The commercial has no spoken language so it can apply to any language and any country as long as the same kind of values demonstrated visually are shared. The audience is not as broad as beer drinkers; maybe it s a specific kind of beer drinkers as well. Perhaps one who has affection for puppies? One who buys into the classic American dream style image of sharing a cold brew with a buddy next to your dog and horse. If that sounds nice to you, you re their target audience. Their purpose is obviously simple; sell more beer. But the way they have all wrapped it up is interesting. It begins with a Caucasian male, maybe an American in his 30 s, wearing a hat saying Budweiser. This scene says multiple things about Budweiser, Budweiser is for hard workers, Budweiser is for cowboys, etc. Then in the next scene a puppy suddenly emerges from a haystack, from that moment the audience becomes attached to the puppy. It turns into an emotional commercial in that moment where the puppy pops out of the haystack. That puppy that we ve become attached to runs outside since it s typical for a little puppy to be curious, and that horse gives him a little neigh so that continuous to foster the relationship between the two animals. Champion Of The World By Maya Angelou Analysis Both Maya Angelou of Champion of the World , and Amy Tan of Fish Cheeks write anecdotal short stories which express their isolation from the dominant Anglo culture while delving into deeper detail as to why they feel such a great sense of alienation. Although both stories take place within different settings and time periods, a primary commonality they share comes from within the detachment they feel as minorities within a larger, more dominant community. Each author expertly employs literary devices such as description and narrative style within their writing to express the primary underlying message of their anecdotal stories; however, placing emphasis on the descriptive aspects of a story and setting more often seems to give the audience greater clarity and insight into the situation and setting. In Tan s story, objects of familiarity and a myriad of overwhelming are described in intense detail. Therefore, Tan s heavy emphasis of description throughout her story resonates more strongly with the reader. By thoroughly analyzing the text, we can observe how and why the literary element which the authors place more focus on is an important aspect toward expressing the theme of cultural isolation, as well as to how Tan s usage of description give the audience more insight as a result. In the short story Champion of the World by Maya Angelou, the author s sense of alienation from the dominant culture of her time period is expressed through her distinct telling of the ... These forces can have a negative impact on the development, health and maintenance of the cartilage and meniscus in that joint (and increased load on the knees and the tibiofemoral joint can result in osteoarthritis). The tibiofemoral load is varied depending on the muscle coordination patterns. The laboratory created a musculoskeletal model of subject to analyze the tibiofemoral load, and an optimization framework to calculate the load from muscle coordination. Using the model and optimization framework, the laboratory was able to understand the impact of different muscle coordination on the tibiofemoral load. The laboratory was able to precisely predict tibiofemoral forces when compared to in vivo measurements during the early stance phase, but overshot its prediction during the late stance phase. The over prediction of the tibiofemoral load was due to the extended activity of the gastrocnemius and the rectus femoris. The laboratory was able to modify the activity of these two muscles to increase resemblance with in vivo measurements. The laboratory was also able to identify distinct changes in muscle activity that could decrease tibiofemoral load. I have the story of all of their adventures. It all starts from the beginning of time. From the start, lice have always loved jungle like places. For example, grass. That is where they commenced. They loved it there, they built forts, food storages, and all sorts of things. That is until the bug came around. It had wings the size of the grass and claws the size of three blocks of dirt. The lice packed up and went to the nose. Many of the lice adored it there. It was the perfect climate for them. Unfortunately they moved there in the winter when the humans had colds. Sneezes were like a hurricane, runny noses were like mudslides, and a blowing nose was like a tsunami. They shortly decided it wasn t safe for them to live there. Once again they packed up and left. Their next stop was the eyelashes and eyebrows. It wasn t very hairy or concealing, but it had to work for the time being. They quickly found this would not work either. Humans would pluck their eyebrows and pluck the lice out with them. They would also put mascara on their eyelashes causing the lice to be stuck in what felt like tar. The worst part was the crying. I feel as if this is a very important topic within the Criminal Justice System that needs to be addressed. Even without paying strict attention to the news media, a person will still find it difficult to avoid hearing stories about heavily armed SWAT teams, smashing in a door in the dead of night, just to search for drugs. It is a practice that is becoming more and more common. And as it becomes more common, so do the horror stories associated with it: mistaken identities and needlessly ravaged homes, unnecessary shootings of both people and pets, flashbang grenades being detonated near infants, etc. America s neighborhoods are not a battleground, it s citizens are not enemy combatants, and it s police are not soldiers. In the book, Techniques of Propaganda and Persuasion, author Magedah Shabo explains, Anger often grows from feelings of fear and uncertainty. Anger is also a very common reaction to injustice, humiliation, or betrayal (117). Following fear and anger is hatred and distrust, another powerful motivator in persuasion. When emotions such as fear and anger towards a specific target have been established, hatred and distrust develop and limit a person s ability to reason with what is right versus wrong. • 37. Against Fatalism in Western Europe It is the opinion of The Author that the most intellectually exhausted debate in the Western European tradition revolves around the existence of free will. This question has been so thoroughly ground to a pulp that if you look up the Wikipedia article on it, one of the first things you will encounter is a simple graphical taxonomy of the possible positions one can take on the issue, which allows one, assuming one believes that their position has not been preordained, to determine where one stands without dragging out the same fatigued arguments for yet another obnoxious ballyhoo. While other traditions have also dealt with this subject extensively, they have, for the most part, either been prescient or blessed enough to find other, less mind numbingly intractable issues to validate their participation in humanity s unofficial, though remarkably uncontested universal pastime, namely blowing each other to smithereens, which, despite it s best efforts, inclusive humanism has roundly failed to supplant, although it may be winning the war while losing all of the battles (Pinker). It may even be possible that the intractability of this debate has contributed to the resounding success of the various and sundry teams that Western Europe has sent to the international league, since, as a central aspect of the schism between Protestant and Catholic dogmas, it may have directly or indirectly provided the ideological justification for the vast majority of European religiopolitical ... • 39. Analysis Of Under The Influence By Scott Sanders Robin Williams once expressed that [a]n alcoholic is someone who can violate his standards faster than he can lower them. Many instances in Under the Influence by Scott Sanders displays he idea of depletion of character triggered from alcohol. Sanders reveals the contrast in behavior of alcoholics while sober and under the influence. Sanders also delves into the view of family members of an alcoholic and how astute they become in seeing signs of an alcoholic. To achieve this review one of the important elements of Under the Influence is that Sanders does not make this experience feel singular. Sanders goal of writing Under the Influence is understanding and describing the reach and affect of an alcoholic family member. Sanders pursues the understanding of his goal through bringing together the concepts of flashback and reflection. The first section there is a combination of the two concepts of flashback and reflections. The involvement of constant flashbacks is expressive of the scaring depth of memories. These memories permanent of the terror experienced. The detail of the fear is from the uncertainty of how far his father would go while in a drunken rage. In addition, there is strong language presented to develop the goal. Particularly using statistics as a comfort and description of using it against memory like an ice pack against a bruise. Low Earth Orbit Essay Thomas Kern ESS102 Research Paper Space Debris in Low Earth Orbit An unfortunate consequence of man exploring off planet has been the steady growth of junk from derelict and unused spacecraft. According to NASA there are over half a million pieces of junk in low earth orbit. Because these pieces of junk travel at orbital speeds of around 17,500 miles per hour, they posses tremendous amounts of energy and are capable of doing substantial damage (NASA). Most of the dangerous hard to track debris comes from collisions (NASA). When old satellites are allowed to orbit on a collision free path they are relatively easy to track, and avoid. However, problems arise once these satellites are involved in collisions. Collisions can break apart ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A variety of techniques are being developed to try and put this principle into use, for constructing all sorts of things in low earth orbit. A proposed method of recycling satellites is to tow old satellites out to mars where the materials could be used by future colonies. Tom Markusic CEO of startup firefly systems, has a plan to do just that (Howell). Firefly systems plans to use solar powered craft to slowly and efficiently move things from earths orbit to mars. Once there they could be broken down by colonists in orbit for their nuts bolts and various other components (Howell). This could actually create a much needed market for supplies if space travel becomes commercialized. If part is needed part way through a mission and it can be found on a derelict satellite, Tom Markusic s company could be the missing link that could retrieve a bolt or solar panel and bring it to whoever needs it eliminating the need for an expensive launch from the earths surface. Another potential way of recycling space craft is increasing their longevity. Often times only a single component fails taking down all of a satellite s systems. If they are designed modularly then satellites would only require a simple part replacement to be working again. DARPA is currently researching a craft that would dock with satellites, assess damage, and potential make repairs (Howell). Having ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Divine Command Theory The Divine Command Theory seeks to explain what makes an act ethically right or wrong in accordance to God s will. This concept asserts that a morally right action was commanded by God. Conversely, an act is reflected as morally wrong if it goes against the will of God. Criticism begs the questions that if God commanded us to commit an act of cruelty and inflict suffering onto other human beings just for the sake of His will, would that act still be considered morally right to perform? Moreover, would it be morally wrong for us to deny the participation in said cruelty? With these questions in mind, Robert Adams offered an amendment to the Divine Command Theory by clarifying some aspects of the original philosophy and pointing out some conditions ... • 45. Mussolini Fascism Analysis The popularity of Mussolini s fascism among returning veterans was not only because of the comradery that Mussolini shared with them, but also the role that veterans played in fascismo. Welk (1938, 8 9), notes a publication in which, Mussolini campaigned for the right of returned soldiers to lead Italy towards becoming a great nation and a new world power. In order to understand how powerful this image was, it is important to understand the Post war Italian economy. Though Italy had claimed victory in 1918, it came at the cost of the lives of approximately 600 thousand Italian soldiers, and nearly everyone in Italy outside of war profiteers exited the war more impoverished. Particularly, the transition from war to peace time production was a slow and painful process. Thus, while Italy claimed military victory, the post war economy was not only crippled but also disorganized. This left laborers eager to lend their ears to a solution, and two powerful but contrasting ideologies to vie for their support. The first to consider is Communism. A year before, communism had claimed an important victory in the Russian revolution of 1917. The decisive victory of the Russian proletariat in Welk s (1938, 9 11) opinion provoked Italian communists to encourage the same in Italy. The following years were characterized by strikes, and worker s seizing the means of production, as the working class attempted to seize power throughout the nation. He should have respected the professional boundaries of his career and known that the situation he was entering was potentially unethical.
