The Zika Virus Is Affecting The Whole World
Zika Virus A new outbreak in Zika is impacting the whole world; "In 1952,the first cases of Zika
virus were detected" ("About Zika Virus Disease"). The first human case was detected in 1952, but
it was discovered five years earlier; in 1947. The cases were first detected in Uganda and the united
republic of tanzania. The virus was named after the ZIka forest in Uganda. This virus is spread by a
mosquito bite; transmitted by mosquitoes. The Zika virus has many symptoms, no vaccines, and
causes birth defect called microcephaly. Furthermore, Zika virus is usually mild with symptoms and
lasts several days to a week. People are likely to get symptoms but, "the most common symptoms
are fever, rash, joint pain, or conjunctivitis (red eyes)" ("About Zika Virus Disease"). There is also
muscle pain and headache. This virus is transmitted by a mosquito bite. The Zika virus usually
doesn't get people "sick enough to go to the hospital, and rarely die of Zika" ("About Zika Virus
Disease"). The virus usually stays in the body for about a week but it can be found longer. If a
person was infected with Zika virus "he or she is likely to be protected from future infections"
("About Zika Virus Disease"). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is no "vaccine to prevent or medicine to treat Zika virus" ("Symptoms,Diagnosis,&
Treatment"). There are a few ways to treat the symptoms: Make sure to "get plenty of rest, Drink
Fluids to prevent dehydration, Take medicine to reduce fever and pain" ("Symptoms,Diagnosis,&
Treatment"). Make sure to talk to your healthcare provider before taking medication. If you were
diagnosed with Zika "prevent mosquito bites for the first week of your illness"
("Symptoms,Diagnosis,& Treatment"). If a mosquito bites you while you have the Zika virus it can

Paulo Freire Research Paper
Introduction Paulo Freire was born in Recife, Brazil in 1921. He became familiar with grief,
suffering; poverty, and hunger during the Great Depression. His social life consisted of playing
stickball or a pickup game of football with less privileged children. He learned a lot from those
childhood experiences, which later contributed to his overwhelming concern for the less privileged.
As a result, Freire constructed an educational viewpoint, which focused on aiding the illiterate.
Educational Background While Freire's upbringing was less than ideal, it did not keep him from
pursuing his dream of developing way to aid in the educational development of under privileged
children and adults. In pursuit of his dream, Freire enrolled in law ... Show more content on

In Brazil during that time, it was required for voters to be able to read and comprehend the ballots in
order for them to vote in Presidential elections. During Freire's time at the State of Pernambuco, he
began adopt a non–orthodox form of what one could consider liberation theology. Once again, in
1961, Freire was privileged to be appointed Director of the Cultural Extension of Recife University.
The following year Freire had his first opportunity for testing and application of his educational
theories, when 300 under privileged adults were taught to read and write within a short period of 45
days. As a result, Brazilian government sought to create thousands of locations in which Freire's
theories could be applied, therefore strengthening the literacy of the nation. However, a military
coup put an end to their efforts in 1964. Freire was imprisoned for 70 days after being viewed as a
traitor following the coup. After his release, Freire fled to Bolivia. Following his time in Bolivia,
Freire began his work in Chile, where he stayed for five years. During his time in Chile, Freire
worked for the Christian Democratic Agrarian Reform movement and the Food and Agriculture
Organization of the United Nations. While working with the aforementioned organizations, Freire
composed his first book, Education as the Practice of Freedom, which published in 1967. The

Dissociative Experience During Childbirth
The article I chose was "Dissociative experience during childbirth." This experiment was assessing
whether or not labor pain, traumatic childbirth, obstetrical variables, and previous trauma were part
of causing a dissociative experience during childbirth. The method used to study the hypothesis was
by having 328 women completed five surveys up to 72 hours postpartum. They were between the
ages of 18–42. Out of the group 68.6% were married or living with a partner and 43.3% had a job.
The average number of years the women spent in school was 8.8yrs. More than half (59.2%), did
not complete high school and only 2% (6) completed higher education. From the group, 19.2% of
them had a miscarriage before. More than half (51.5%) had already ... Show more content on

The program R v2 version 10.0 was used to analyze the data.
The results indicated that dissociative experience was more common in women that considered their
childbirth traumatic. Some things that were associated with having dissociative experience are
previous trauma, obstetrical complications at birth, forceps, prematurity, complications with the
infant, not being happy with the maternity care, not having a job, a lot of pain, and education levels.
A total of 11.3% (37 women) experienced significant dissociation. Sense of time changes, things
occurring in slow motion, not knowing what is going on, feeling uncertain or disoriented about
where they were or what time it was, things that they are not aware happened at the childbirth and
blacking out or spacing out were reported as being the most common dissociative symptoms. Below
is a graph from the article with details on the results; At the end of the experiment, the author found
that Dissociative experiences are possible during childbirth in particular symptoms. These
symptoms include sensation of a change in the pace of time, not being aware of certain things that
happened, and disorientation. Traumatic childbirth also impacted perinatal dissociation. Traumatic
childbirth occurred when women feared for their lives and their baby's lives, received news about
some terrible obstetrical intervention or medical

SC Johnson's Arguments Against DEET Use
Many supporters of DEET advocate for people to use it under the recommended amount. It is safe to
use, given that one takes precautionary measures when applying it, especially on children and
infants over two months of age (CDC p4). From this point–of–view, it is easy to argue that SC
Johnson is being socially responsible by providing helpful products. These supporters argue that
DEET currently is one of the best and only solutions that our society currently has to combat the
Zika outbreak. Even with animal testing, observational studies, and numerous trials, recommended
DEET use has shown no evidence of severe health problems (NPR). Additionally, from a utilitarian
perspective, SC Johnson's increased production is considered ethical. Under ... Show more content

One argument is on the company's claim that DEET products are safe under "normal use." While
using the products under "normal use" do not present any health concerns to the general public, with
a surge of fear over the Zika virus, advocates against DEET believe that people will invariably use
more than the recommended dosages. In response to the recent concern, SC Johnson released a press
statement to address the topic of DEET poisoning by saying that when applied correctly, and
according to the label directions, the DEET spray OFF! could be "used with confidence" (SC
Johnson2 p1). It is one of the few insect repellant products that can be applied directly onto the skin
(R.E.D. Facts p3). However, the issue of what constitutes "normal use" is not clearly understood, or
defined, especially during an outbreak. The effects of an excessive amount of DEET usage include
blisters, rashes, and skin and membrane irritation (CDC p3). However, with the recent Zika
epidemic, civilians are encouraged to use more protection when outdoors. For example, NBC News
recently reported on the panic Zika has caused in Recife, a major Brazilian city. The health
department workers in Recife sprayed the streets with DEET products in preparation for their largest
festival, "Carnival" (Derenowski). The citizens of Recife were taking a tremendous risk by using
such vast quantities of a product that should be used sparingly. This exemplifies what may happen if
individuals heed the ambiguous message that "normal use" of DEET is harmless; the fact that more
should be used outdoors caused a potentially harmful situation. This is why it is dangerous for SC
Johnson to declare that a product is safe to use given that it can lead to detrimental effects to
people's

Who Is Eduardo Recife´s Misprinted Type
Misprinted Type is a type foundry based in Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil. This type foundry was
created in 1998 by Eduardo Recif. To understand the designs behind the typeface, you must first
know about the creator, Eduardo Recife. From there you can then understand the creations of
Misprinted Type and its influence on the more modern Grunge Typography. Eduardo Recife is an
artist, illustrator, and typographer. Most of his artwork and illustrations are collage based. Within his
artwork, Recife adds a mixture of narrative drawings, stains, textures, and hand lettering to create a
retro and vintage piece of artwork. Recife decided to create his own typefaces in 1997, at first for
himself. The then figured it would be good to let others use it, so he distributed it online. He then
thought to name the foundry "Misprinted Type", after the name of his first typeface (Aloa). His

Romero Britto Research Paper
Romero Britto is a twentieth and twenty–first century pop artist who was born in Recife, Brazil on
October 6, 1963. He is the seventh child of nine and he is currently married to Cheryl Britto with a
son named Brendan. Romero lived an adequate life with his brothers and sister as a child and was
first introduced to art when he was just a young child. He did not capture the full understanding of
becoming an artist for a career until the day his older brother showed him books that were about
famous artists such as Toulouse Launtrec. Britto became inspired and began copying these fine art
pieces from the books the next day. Originally, Britto embraced art to escape from the real world
even through his early twenties when he was working to get into law school. He of course
eventually dropped out of law school to study art in Europe. Britto traveled to Paris where he was
introduced to the works and artistic techniques of Matisse and Picasso. "Romero has explored with
many media including watercolor, pen and ink, serigraphy, lithography, acrylic, and even finger
paint." He uses many forms of Cubism in his pop art along with his signature bright colors and bold

Essay on The Development of Afro-Brazilian Religions
The origin of Afro Brazilian religions is traced back to the Atlantic slave trade that took place in the
16th century . Portuguese people captured individuals from Bantu tribes and the other West African
communities. The slave trade involved the transfer of these people to Brazil, where they were sold
as slaves. The interaction of slaves from different cultural and religious backgrounds led to the
development of the Afro Brazilian religions that consequently spread all over Brazil. The religions
did not; however, develop at once since they faced opposition from the then government that
recognized the Roman Catholic as the only religion in Brazil. Attempts by Africans to worship in
their own culture were counteracted until in 1824 when the ... Show more content on

The slaves were therefore regarded as more educated than their masters due to their ability to read
and write in Arabic. The slaves were transported to Bahia, a town in Brazil, where they provided
labor for the Brazilians . The Bantu slaves were mainly drawn from the Congo and Angola where
they survived as agriculturalists before they were captured and sold as slaves. The slaves were sold
to Brazil to work in the large sugar plantations.
Candomblé
This is a traditional Brazil religion practiced by the Africans communities living there . The dance
was performed to appease their gods. It is done in traditional styles derived from the Yoruba and
Bantu traditions. The songs and dances were developed by African priests who were traded as
slaves. The priests had strong African beliefs and had gained great experience on the task thus they
could easily influence more followers. The religion had no formal scripture and the priests used the
word of mouth to pass their message to their congregations. The believers were followers of a god
by the name Oludumaré who they asserted was their creator. The oludumare has his servants called
the Orishas. The Orishas are in every person and every Orisha is assigned an individual to offer
protection. The believers organize a number of ceremonies each year to commemorate some
important events. In the ceremonies, Candomblé songs fill the air. The believers also offer offerings

Practitioners Of Capoeira
Capoeira is a Brazilian cultural expression that will be analyzed through the lens of religious origins,
though the power of the government. African slaves were forced to adopt the Portuguese language
and the Catholic religion. Capoeira mixes popular culture, music, and martial arts. It was developed
in Brazil, mainly by descendants of African slaves, and it is characterized by the use of primarily
"kicks, head butting, kneeing, elbowing, and acrobatics in the ground or air" (De Miranda). One
feature that distinguishes Capoeira from other martial arts is its dance movements. Practitioners of
Capoeira not only learn how to fight and play, but also learn how to play the typical instruments and
singing. A capoeirista that "ignores the ancestor's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Portuguese settlers established large farms, whose manpower was primarily slave. The slave,
living in humiliating and inhumane conditions, was forced to work to exhaustion, often suffering

Capoeira. More than a combat technique has emerged as a hope for freedom and survival, a tool for
the fugitive black, totally unequipped, could survive the hostile environment and face the hunting of

Capoeira Essay
Capoeira
History:
Capoeira is the common name for the group of African martial arts that came out of west Africa and
were modified and mixed in Brazil. These original styles included weapons, grappling and striking
as well as animal forms that became incorporated into different components and sub styles of the art.
In 1500's the Portuguese, led by explorer Pedro Alvares Cabral, arrived in Brazil. One of the first
measures taken by the new arrivals was the conquering of the local population, the Brazilian
Indians, in order to allow the Portuguese slave labor (for sugarcane and cotton). The experience with
the Indians was a failure. The Indians quickly died in captivity or fled to their nearby homes. The
Portuguese then began to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The quilombo dos Palmraes lasted sixty–seven years in the interior of the state of Alagoas, fighting
off almost all expeditions sent to extinguish it. Because of the consistency and type of threat present,
capoeira developed as a fight in the quilombos. The birth of capoeira as a fighting style was created
in the slaves' quarters and might not have developed further if left only to that environment.
Starting around 1814, capoeira and other forms of African cultural expression suffered were
prohibited in some places by the slave masters and overseers. Up until that date, forms of African
cultural expression were permitted and sometimes even encouraged, not only as safety against
internal pressures created by slavery but also to bring out the differences between various African
groups, in a spirit of "divide and conquer". But with the arrival in Brazil in 1808 of the Portuguese
king Dom Joao VI and his court, who were fleeing Napoleon Bonaparte's invasion of Portugal,
things changed. The newcomers understood the necessity of destroying a people's culture in order to
dominate them, and capoeira began to be persecuted in a process, which would end with its being
outlawed in 1892.
Why was capoeira suppressed? There were many motives. First of all it gave Africans a sense of
nationality. It also developed self–confidence in individual capoeira practitioners. Capoeira created
small, cohesive groups. It also created dangerous and agile fighters. Sometimes the slaves

Effects Of The Slave Trade On The Country 's Oldest Cities...
One of the country's oldest cities and the first capital of Brazil, from 1796 to 1888, Salvador de
Bahia had witnessed successful blending of European, African and Indigenous cultures. From 1558,
the first slave market in the New World, with slaves arriving to work on the sugar plantations and
later tobacco fields, Salvador became the poster–child for positive cultural assimilation. The slave
trade, which lasted in Bahia until 1888 had a direct impact on the state today; large Afro–Brazilian
population and its European, African, and Indigenous blend of cultures. The widespread impact of
the slave trade on the county's inhabitants, culture, and the economy proves that the slave trade in
Salvador, Brazil led to more than an economical gain for the Portuguese. I argue that slave and race
relations in Salvador, Brazil though atrocious had outcomes that remain vastly different from other
colonized country's experience during this time racially, socially, and economically.
Salvador, historically known as, "São Salvador da Bahia de Todos os Santos" translates to "City of
the Holy Savior of the Bay of all Saints," is the largest city on the northeast coast of Brazil and the
capital of the Brazilian state of Bahia. The first colonial capital of Brazil, the city is one of the oldest

Wic 's Bankruptcy And The Loss Of Northern Brazil
Amidst the WIC's bankruptcy and the loss of Northern Brazil to Portugal, the Dutch found
themselves on the arid island of Curacao with 100,000 slaves and minimal opportunities. But the
Dutch are known for their ingenuity and they quickly rebounded from their losses even while her
corporate was itself a sinking ship. Part of their initial success revolves around them settling in
Curacao before 1642. The WIC realized how invaluable a slave trade depot would be if Northern
Brazil would ever fall back into the hands of the Portuguese. Once Curacao was established, the
Dutch knew they could continue transporting slaves to the Caribbean and then sell them to the
highest bidder. Initially the highest bidder was the Spanish because, unlike the Portuguese, they paid
the WIC in cash. However, it took some time to convince the Spanish to consider asiento contracts
with them.
With the end of the Eighty Years War in 1648, Portugal had previously revolted against Spain in
1640. Portugal, as Postma explains, "had monopolized the slave trade to the Spanish colonies
because they were the only Europeans who had African trading bases that could obtain large
numbers of slaves." As mentioned, the Treaty of Tordesillas prevented Spain from entering into
Africa herself. Therefore, the Spanish had to find alternative means to acquiring their needed labor
force. At first the Spanish acquired their African slaves by way of illicit trade because they felt that

In his report on the visit to Recife, one of the delegates, the President of the National Council for

Color Of Modernity
In the Color of Modernity: São Paulo and the Making of Race and Nation in Brazil, author Barbara
Weinstein examines the ways that residents of São Paulo developed a regional identity designed to
set it apart from the rest of the nation, primarily focusing on the years between the 1930s and the
1950s. This paulista identity was largely predicated on ideas of whiteness and what they saw as its
causal relation to modernity and progress. The paulistas considered themselves at the top of the
national hierarchy, Weinstein explains, and were determined to maintain this position against the
encroaching hordes from the impoverished and backwards Nordeste region, cast as a symbol of
blackness, indolence and primitiveness. The paulista insistence on a ... Show more content on

As Weinstein argues, this kind of racialized regional superiority identity discourse contributed to the
paulista support for the right–wing military coup of 1964 that overthrew the democratically elected
government of João Goulart. As the Goulart administration had sought to increase the
enfranchisement of Brazilians by ending literacy requirements, paulistas regarded this as giving
power to the ignorant hordes of the Nordeste. Rather than acknowledge that Marxist thought might
hold some appeal to the long–suffering, impoverished nordestinos, paulistas attributed any influence
to the natural inclinations of extremism, disorder, and ignorance of the region. Biased by the long–
term regional discourse of paulista superiority, determined not to lose its place in the national
hierarchy of influence, São Paulo was quick to throw its support behind the military coup. Even by
the 1970s, as the state became a center of opposition to the dictatorship, it continued to embrace its
regional superiority, this time sneering at nordestinos for voting for the pro–military candidates that

Queer Liberation Theology Research Paper
Queer Liberation Theology In our modern era, the conversation about gender equality, marriage
equality, and identity cannot be ignored. Even with current events relating to which public restroom

America. Beyond the social dialogue is the spiritual conversation. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
Transgender, and Queer community fight not only an uphill battle with the pressure of society but
also how to reconcile a relationship with God and a place within Christianity. It is through the
thoughtful exploration of Queer Liberation Theology that a dialogue and public and spiritual

as Liberation Theology focuses on the compassionate approach to addressing poverty and

Dengue Fever an Article by John P. Cuhna
Identifying the preliminary issue In his article "Dengue Fever" John P. Cuhna describes Dengue
fever, also known as "breakbone" or "dandy fever", as, "a family of viruses that are transmitted
through mosquitos". This disease is very common in tropic and subtropic areas such as Brazil.
Dengue Fever has no vaccination and the only way to prevent is to avoid getting bit by a mosquito
that carries the disease. The disease comes from a mosquito known as the Aedes aegypti (Halstead,
2008). Since the climate and amount of rainfall are two key factors in the reproduction of the Aedes
aegypti global warming and climate change have been playing a role in the dengue fever cases (
Halstead, 2008). This is a struggle for people who live in lower income and over populated areas
since they have little to no form of protection and live in less cleanly areas. No one is exactly sure
where dengue fever originated from but scientist recently proposed that it came from forests in Asia.
Dengue fever has three stages; the first being the acute stage which can last from one to five days,
the second is the critical stage which can last up to two to three days, and the last stage which is the
recovery stage which is can last up to weeks. Dengue fever symptoms vary in severity. While some
people, mainly babies and young children, show little to no symptoms others, such as older children
and adults, show mild to severe symptoms. Symptoms include but are not limited to fever, bone and

Sorry, No Bread for Thanksgiving
A few centuries ago, doctors were observing a strange phenomenon: well–fed children, no matter
how much they were eating, were malnourished. The only known cure at this time was an all banana
diet [later revised to an all fruit diet] (Gut). It wasn't until World War II that a cause was attributed to
"Gee–Herter's disease"–the name of this unusual disorder. A shortage of grain led a Dutch
pediatrician, Willem–Karel Dicke, to draw the conclusion that wheat was the culprit (Gut). He made
this connection when the death rate of children with this disease went from about 35% to 0% during
the grain shortage (Sanghavi). Today, Gee–Herter's disease, more commonly known as coeliac or
celiac disease, is better understood. Advanced methods in molecular biology have allowed scientists
to increase their knowledge of how coeliac disease works.
Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disease, meaning that the body's immune system is responsible
for the ill symptoms by attacking the body's cells. This is different from an allergy, in that basophils
and eosinophil are specifically responsible for allergic responses (Celiac Disease Foundation). When
an individual with coeliac disease consumes wheat, barley, or rye [which contain the protein gluten];
it triggers the immune system to attack the body. The small intestine is usually a main target;
specifically the villi, which are finger–like projections that line the small

important composers, such as Alberto Ginastera, Olivier Messiaen, Riccardo Malipiero, Luigi
Dallapiccola, Bruno Maderna and Aaron Copland." The Variações Rítmicas Op.15 is one of the most
significant Nobre's composition from his second period. In this piece, Nobre explores serial
techniques and percussive elements. The piece is a mix of Brazilian native rhythms and
dodecaphonic music where Nobre explores the Brazilian percussion instruments. "Besides the piano,
Variações Rítmicas Op. 15 requires eight typical Brazilian percussion instruments: cuíca aguda (a
friction drum which the performer plays with his hand inside the instrument), xocalho (maraca),
afoxê (also known as cabaça, it is a maraca covered with a network of beads), reco–reco (a scraper
also known as guiro), five agogôs (cowbells), pandeiro (tambourine), tamborim (very small high–
pitched drum), and three atabaques (conga drums)." Nobre also wrote several other works that
require percussion instruments, such as the ballet Rhythmethron op. 27, composed exclusively for
percussion instruments, Sonâncias I op. 37, for piano and percussion; and Sonâncias III op. 49, for
two pianos. Those pieces confirms Bartók's influence on Nobre since he also composed a sonata for
two piano and percussion, where he explores a variety of popular rhythms from Hungary. "The 20th
century composers who have most influenced me are Debussy, Bartók and Lutoslawski. These

Demographic Distribution
Brazil is the chief nation in South America with a population of 201,032,714, sustaining a growth

of 0.9% and a population density of 24 per square km. According to the Central Intelligence Agency
[CIA], 2014, "As the largest country it share borders with the Atlantic Ocean and every South

(CIA, 2014).
Brazil's population encompasses many ethnicities which are remnants of African, Asian,
Amerindian,
and European's origins. De Lima, Potter, Hamermesh, Rios–Neto (2013) documented, "The diverse

How Did The Dutch Empire Influence Latin America
The Dutch colonization of Latin America is nothing less than a phenomenon. Against all odds the
Dutch empire rose to colonial prominence in the latter sixteenth century and early seventeenth
century throughout much of Asia, South America and the Caribbean. Coming into their success from
a vast trading network the Dutch had to navigate the murky waters of the countries within the
triangle alliance, consisting of France, England and, Spain. Ultimately, these three countries with
their enormous militaries, naval fleets and, wealth were able to surpass the Dutch as the decades
elapsed. However, despite these great odds the influence the Dutch empire had on Latin America is
immense. One of the many odds the Dutch overcame was the massive protective legislation of the
triangle alliance countries as well as, for at least a short ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The seventy or so years before these laws were enacted (the British navigation acts were first
enacted in 1651) the Dutch began to build a monumental empire focused on sugar and slave trading.
The Dutch West Indies company was chartered in 1621 to give monopoly to the Dutch in the trade
market of the Caribbean, Brazil and, Africa, thus restricting the trade of more powerful countries.
According to Pieter C. Emmer, a Dutch historian at Leiden University in the Netherlands, one major
reason the Dutch were such successful traders and colonizers was because " Dutch traders were
known all over to offer lower freight rates and a better array of trade goods at lower prices than any
of their competitors", thus leading to a stronghold in the region by virtue of trade (Emmer 341). In
addition to their powerful trade markets and shipping capabilities some early victories in the sea led

Middle Child Research Papers
Most people might say that middle children are the "go getters in the world". One might even be
able argue that it's fact, using famous middle children Bill Gates, Princess Diana, and Martin Luther
King Jr as clear examples. While one Weber State student may not have invented a software
program, be part of the royal family, or play a major role in the civil rights movement, she definitely
fits the description of a "go getter" middle child.
Katrina Thompson, a senior at Weber State University has a lot going on during her final two
semesters, where she is pursuing a bachelor's degree in child and family study and a minor in
communication. Katrina currently works for Country Care assisted living, as a full time certified

Paulo Freire : The Philosophy Of Education
The world would be a better place if every child had the opportunity to an education. Education is
an extremely vital part of life. Without an education, people would live a life of ignorance and
close–mindedness. It helps society function and behaves civilized. Education is a philosophy which
is the study of examining and thinking about questionable ethical problems and accepted certainties.
People study philosophy to understand fundamental truths about themselves, the world they live in
and the relationships to the world and to each other. Paulo Freire was a man who was willing to fight
the education system by creating Critical Pedagogy and by the changing the world with his idea. It
was a social movement and philosophy of education that developed and applied concepts from
critical theory and related theories to the field of education and the study of culture. Paulo Freire
was an idealist whose purpose was to build critical consciousness in literacy campaigns, especially
in Grenada.
Paulo Freire was one of the best influential educators of the world of the 20th century. He was born
on September 19, 1921, in the port city of Recife, the capital of Pernambuco in northeastern Brazil,
which was one of the poorest regions in the country. Freire was born into a middle–class family but
with the global crisis of 1929, his family would endure poverty and hunger. He recalls in Moacir

Fossil Lagerstätten
A Fossil–Lagerstätten is an undisturbed fossil accumulation in which fossils are exceptionally
preserved. There are two types of fossil lagerstätten: Concentration Lagerstätten (Konzentrat–

are deposits of an immense number of preserved fossils, whereas Conservation Lagerstätten are the
preservation of fossils in terms of quality rather than quantity (Nudds and Selden, 2008). There
might be few fossils in the rock strata, however, the preservation of these are exemplary. There are
many outcropping areas on Earth in which fossils are preserved like this. One example of a group of

Firstly, the currency has lost a lot of value compared to the U.S. dollar, the companies in Brazil (Sao

beneficial to Apple. Since Apple provide its services through third party companies, it would be
cheaper to buy the services of these companies in Sao Paulo thereby decreasing the running cost as a
result the cost of production of Apples products there by increasing the profit margin.
Secondly, the abundance of business resources in Sao Paulo make it an inevitable attractive factor

Symptoms Of Acute Coronary Syndrome
Symptoms of Acute Coronary Syndrome
Acute coronary syndrome is a medical emergency in women and men that needs
immediate attention; it is imperative to identify early symptoms to get an early treatment with
good outcomes. The timely recognition of symptoms for this condition could be a matter of life
or death for the patient; acute coronary syndrome is responsible for more than seven million
deaths around the world each year, (De Vonn, Hogan, Ochs, & Shapiro, 2011). Su, Nyi, and Li
(2015) states, "Approximately one–third of people suffering heart attacks die before they reach
the hospital" (pp.1). In many cases, when the symptoms of acute coronary syndrome arise,
people do not identify them until is too late for an intervention, so it is possible that socio–
demographic factors such as, gender, age, ethnicity, and income of an individual influence the
recognition of symptoms of acute coronary syndrome and delay treatment?
A research study mentions, "The most important factor impacting increasing time to
treatment for ACS is the patient's decision to delay seeking care," (De Vonn et al., 2011).
Sociodemographic and clinical factors such as, age, education level, and income play an
important role for those deciding when to seek for medical attention for symptoms of acute
coronary syndrome; "Most patients who reported specific symptoms were male, young, with
better financial conditions," (Gouveia, Travassos, Mendes, & Silva, 2015). The association of

18th Century American Slave Trade
History has proven in many points has proven that growth within a country is trade, and a market.
As countries grow the population demands different goods, and some become more valued than
others. Some countries grow into vast empires, because of the economy built around these trades.
The Netherlands and Portugal became great empires, due to the importance of trade, slave trade, and
companies that helped power trade.
Different trade goods create different economies, and different industries. Some of these industries
could be as simple as textile manufacturing, sugar refining, and some type form a movement to
developing a homegrown Tobacco. Each of these industries helped push a golden age upon the
Dutch Empire. The top trade good, was textiles; after warfare between different city–states the
textile industry exploded, the growth so large that the Dutch had to import English wool. The second
largest industry was the sugar refinery, which resulted from colonial conquest, of the Caribbean.

The Importance of the Act of Reading” by Paulo Freire essay

Professor Peter Epps
Composition II
08 September 2014
I"The Importance of the Act of Reading" by Paulo Freire, describes the importance of the act of
reading beyond numerous experiences in his life as a child, a teenager, and an adult. Freire begins
his article by taking readers back to where he was born, in his home city Recife, Brazil. He uses
very itemized imagery to describe the trees, the house and the atmosphere of where he grew up and
how the text, words, and letters were incarnated in the series of things, objects, and signs. He

Schools often require reading materials containing unfamiliar subjects to students. Recognizing that
there is significance for critical understanding of the text itself as well as the act of reading, this
explains why many students today struggle with reading material that is not relevant to their
lifestyle. Freire portrays that by the statement, "reading the world precedes reading the word, and
reading the word implies continually reading the world" (Freire 286). A person should read their
world, and then interpret it. They can then use their existential experience of the world to connect to
what they are reading in print, and better understand it.
"Reading a text as pure description of an object, and undertaken to mechanically memorize the
discrimination, it is neither real reading nor does it result in the knowledge of the object to which the
text refers" (Freire 284). When a teacher gives a reading assignment, the students that read to
memorize the text likely do not gain the significance of what that literary work contextually
attempted to deliver, nor is it necessarily understood by the reader. If a student was really taught the
significance and meaning of the text instead of mechanically memorizing it, the student should have
better outcomes both with gaining the insight of the assignment and the memorization of key points.

Samba De Coco Analysis
Focusing on the study of Samba de Coco (a Brazilian folkloric dance originally from the northern
region), Ethnographer Daniel Sharp analyses throughout his book two musical groups of the
twenty–first century. Mr. Sharp decided to closely analyze them both was because they were directly
related to the "reawaking" process after a political transition from a military regime to democratic.
Both groups are from the city of Arcoverde, a small city in the backlands of the state of Pernambuco
(Northeast of Brazil). Coco Raízes incorporates some African characteristics in its, while Cordel do
Fogo Encantado has a more aggressive and cosmopolitan style adding multiple musical genres

Thus, the group quickly became well–known in Brazil for its musical fragmentation gathering
multiple musical genres. After several TV appearances, the media started paying close attention to
the economic situation in Arcoverde, a situation that could take years to be fixed due to the change
of political regime. Indeed, their "apocalyptic musical style" criticizing poverty, violence, and
drought was a fragmented and declamatory way of seeing the future through the lens of the past, in
other words, "they incorporated national and regional themes within the negative aesthetics of Death
Metal" – (Sharp 2014). Sharp, then, explained that Coco Raíz had two ironic representation: one is
the mud hut replica used as a museum; this iconic representation was built after Lula Calixto's death
(founder of the group Coco Raiz), Lula died of Chagas disease, a disease generalized at the time due
to the mud hut houses as it is a propitious place for the procreation of the triatomine bug. Another
ironic observation made by Sharp is seeing Coco Raízes working to spread their afro–Brazilian
musical form and making it predominant in a white and mestiço interior backlands. Coco Ráizes
was using the past to argue in present trying to create a better future. The author does not go into
translation details sometimes, therefore it becomes difficult to understand what he is trying to say.
Another critic in this book would be Sharp's methodology, he did not want to learn how to play
Samba de Coco, instead he wanted to analyze the two groups as a journalist, for he felt that asking
too much for musical instructions would somehow affect his relationship with the musicians.
Nevertheless, having a "practicing" experience, not just

Black Orpheus Analysis
It is common practice to see old tales revamped for the modern day like romeo and juliet. Franco
Zeffirelli brought Romeo and Juliet to the big screen in 1968, while Baz Luhrmann's version added
a modern twist in 1997. This is no different for Marcel Camus's rendition of the classic Orpheus and
Eurydice story. His version adds quite a twist from the greek original taking place in Rio during
Carnival. The story follows the same like but the culture, and backdrop that envelopes the story is
completely different. It is a quite authentic example of Carnival and the use of the music style Bossa
Nova during the mid 20th century. The authenticity is even furthered when one learns that the two
man composer group who made the beautiful soundtrack are from Rio. Black Orpheus is an
authentic look into the festival of carnival and also the state of Brazil in the mid 1950s. Some of the
underlying feeling of Brazilians relating to its culture are not seen throughout the book, but are
expressed by Gilberto Frye who is quoted. I will analyzing the topics, and details of the film and

One of the main concerns nowadays in Brazil is what is called "sexual tourism", which most of the
times involves children and teenagers. Due to the well known poor economic situation of Brazil,
some foreigners take advantage of that simply for the "cheap sex". That usually happens in poor

produce an estimate of 250,000 child prostitutes in the streets. Parents, hotels, and taxi drivers act
many times as a form of connection between customers and these young girls, working as "pimps"
and promoting the kids as a simple "merchandise" (Source). The Secretary of State of Fortaleza was
working in order to minimize sexual exploitation and help

Why Brazil
Why is Brazil, Brazil?
Why is Brazil, Brazil? the first thing that comes to mind is beautiful sun tanned blond women, white
sand beaches, carnival, endless sex, partying through the night, and the samba. Well, Brazil is a lot
more than the aforementioned. To know what Brazil is, you must start at the very beginning with a
little Brazil history 101. Brazil or the Portuguese pronunciation Brasil is the largest country in
today's South America and the fifth largest in the world. Brazil is known and famous for its soccer
teams and the annual Carnival in Rio de Janiero, Salvador, Recife, and Olinda. Brazil is a vast
country made up of vast diversities of people from the energy of Pernambuco along with Bahia, the

By far the largest, most populous and prosperous country in Latin America, it has also overcome
more than two decades (1964–1988) of military rule to a country that embraced democratic rule,
while facing the challenge of keeping its industrial and agricultural growth and developing its
interior. Exploiting its ever vast natural resources and a large labor pool, Brazil today is Latin
America's leading economic power and a regional leader, overshadowing the likes of Mexico and
Argentina. Highly unequal income distribution, and deep hidden racial animosities still lingers on in
this exotic country although softening from 2004 onwards, remains a pressing problem, along with a
high crime rate and poverty, specifically in large

  • 3. Paulo Freire Research Paper Introduction Paulo Freire was born in Recife, Brazil in 1921. He became familiar with grief, suffering; poverty, and hunger during the Great Depression. His social life consisted of playing stickball or a pickup game of football with less privileged children. He learned a lot from those childhood experiences, which later contributed to his overwhelming concern for the less privileged. As a result, Freire constructed an educational viewpoint, which focused on aiding the illiterate. Educational Background While Freire's upbringing was less than ideal, it did not keep him from pursuing his dream of developing way to aid in the educational development of under privileged children and adults. In pursuit of his dream, Freire enrolled in law ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Brazil during that time, it was required for voters to be able to read and comprehend the ballots in order for them to vote in Presidential elections. During Freire's time at the State of Pernambuco, he began adopt a non–orthodox form of what one could consider liberation theology. Once again, in 1961, Freire was privileged to be appointed Director of the Cultural Extension of Recife University. The following year Freire had his first opportunity for testing and application of his educational theories, when 300 under privileged adults were taught to read and write within a short period of 45 days. As a result, Brazilian government sought to create thousands of locations in which Freire's theories could be applied, therefore strengthening the literacy of the nation. However, a military coup put an end to their efforts in 1964. Freire was imprisoned for 70 days after being viewed as a traitor following the coup. After his release, Freire fled to Bolivia. Following his time in Bolivia, Freire began his work in Chile, where he stayed for five years. During his time in Chile, Freire worked for the Christian Democratic Agrarian Reform movement and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. While working with the aforementioned organizations, Freire composed his first book, Education as the Practice of Freedom, which published in 1967. The following year, Freire ... • 5. Dissociative Experience During Childbirth The article I chose was "Dissociative experience during childbirth." This experiment was assessing whether or not labor pain, traumatic childbirth, obstetrical variables, and previous trauma were part of causing a dissociative experience during childbirth. The method used to study the hypothesis was by having 328 women completed five surveys up to 72 hours postpartum. They were between the ages of 18–42. Out of the group 68.6% were married or living with a partner and 43.3% had a job. The average number of years the women spent in school was 8.8yrs. More than half (59.2%), did not complete high school and only 2% (6) completed higher education. From the group, 19.2% of them had a miscarriage before. More than half (51.5%) had already ... • 9. SC Johnson's Arguments Against DEET Use Many supporters of DEET advocate for people to use it under the recommended amount. It is safe to use, given that one takes precautionary measures when applying it, especially on children and infants over two months of age (CDC p4). From this point–of–view, it is easy to argue that SC Johnson is being socially responsible by providing helpful products. These supporters argue that DEET currently is one of the best and only solutions that our society currently has to combat the Zika outbreak. Even with animal testing, observational studies, and numerous trials, recommended DEET use has shown no evidence of severe health problems (NPR). Additionally, from a utilitarian perspective, SC Johnson's increased production is considered ethical. Under ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One argument is on the company's claim that DEET products are safe under "normal use." While using the products under "normal use" do not present any health concerns to the general public, with a surge of fear over the Zika virus, advocates against DEET believe that people will invariably use more than the recommended dosages. In response to the recent concern, SC Johnson released a press statement to address the topic of DEET poisoning by saying that when applied correctly, and according to the label directions, the DEET spray OFF! could be "used with confidence" (SC Johnson2 p1). It is one of the few insect repellant products that can be applied directly onto the skin (R.E.D. Facts p3). However, the issue of what constitutes "normal use" is not clearly understood, or defined, especially during an outbreak. The effects of an excessive amount of DEET usage include blisters, rashes, and skin and membrane irritation (CDC p3). However, with the recent Zika epidemic, civilians are encouraged to use more protection when outdoors. For example, NBC News recently reported on the panic Zika has caused in Recife, a major Brazilian city. The health department workers in Recife sprayed the streets with DEET products in preparation for their largest festival, "Carnival" (Derenowski). The citizens of Recife were taking a tremendous risk by using such vast quantities of a product that should be used sparingly. This exemplifies what may happen if individuals heed the ambiguous message that "normal use" of DEET is harmless; the fact that more should be used outdoors caused a potentially harmful situation. This is why it is dangerous for SC Johnson to declare that a product is safe to use given that it can lead to detrimental effects to people's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He is the seventh child of nine and he is currently married to Cheryl Britto with a son named Brendan. Romero lived an adequate life with his brothers and sister as a child and was first introduced to art when he was just a young child. He did not capture the full understanding of becoming an artist for a career until the day his older brother showed him books that were about famous artists such as Toulouse Launtrec. Britto became inspired and began copying these fine art pieces from the books the next day. Originally, Britto embraced art to escape from the real world even through his early twenties when he was working to get into law school. He of course eventually dropped out of law school to study art in Europe. Britto traveled to Paris where he was introduced to the works and artistic techniques of Matisse and Picasso. Portuguese people captured individuals from Bantu tribes and the other West African communities. The slave trade involved the transfer of these people to Brazil, where they were sold as slaves. The interaction of slaves from different cultural and religious backgrounds led to the development of the Afro Brazilian religions that consequently spread all over Brazil. The religions did not; however, develop at once since they faced opposition from the then government that recognized the Roman Catholic as the only religion in Brazil. Attempts by Africans to worship in their own culture were counteracted until in 1824 when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The slaves were sold to Brazil to work in the large sugar plantations. Candomblé This is a traditional Brazil religion practiced by the Africans communities living there . The dance was performed to appease their gods. It is done in traditional styles derived from the Yoruba and Bantu traditions. The songs and dances were developed by African priests who were traded as slaves. The priests had strong African beliefs and had gained great experience on the task thus they could easily influence more followers. The religion had no formal scripture and the priests used the word of mouth to pass their message to their congregations. The believers were followers of a god by the name Oludumaré who they asserted was their creator. The oludumare has his servants called the Orishas. The Orishas are in every person and every Orisha is assigned an individual to offer protection. The believers organize a number of ceremonies each year to commemorate some important events. African slaves were forced to adopt the Portuguese language and the Catholic religion. Capoeira mixes popular culture, music, and martial arts. It was developed in Brazil, mainly by descendants of African slaves, and it is characterized by the use of primarily "kicks, head butting, kneeing, elbowing, and acrobatics in the ground or air" (De Miranda). One feature that distinguishes Capoeira from other martial arts is its dance movements. These original styles included weapons, grappling and striking as well as animal forms that became incorporated into different components and sub styles of the art. In 1500's the Portuguese, led by explorer Pedro Alvares Cabral, arrived in Brazil. One of the first measures taken by the new arrivals was the conquering of the local population, the Brazilian Indians, in order to allow the Portuguese slave labor (for sugarcane and cotton). Because of the consistency and type of threat present, capoeira developed as a fight in the quilombos. The birth of capoeira as a fighting style was created in the slaves' quarters and might not have developed further if left only to that environment. Starting around 1814, capoeira and other forms of African cultural expression suffered were prohibited in some places by the slave masters and overseers. Up until that date, forms of African cultural expression were permitted and sometimes even encouraged, not only as safety against internal pressures created by slavery but also to bring out the differences between various African groups, in a spirit of "divide and conquer". But with the arrival in Brazil in 1808 of the Portuguese king Dom Joao VI and his court, who were fleeing Napoleon Bonaparte's invasion of Portugal, things changed. The newcomers understood the necessity of destroying a people's culture in order to dominate them, and capoeira began to be persecuted in a process, which would end with its being outlawed in 1892. Why was capoeira suppressed? There were many motives. First of all it gave Africans a sense of nationality. It also developed self–confidence in individual capoeira practitioners. • 21. Effects Of The Slave Trade On The Country 's Oldest Cities... One of the country's oldest cities and the first capital of Brazil, from 1796 to 1888, Salvador de Bahia had witnessed successful blending of European, African and Indigenous cultures. From 1558, the first slave market in the New World, with slaves arriving to work on the sugar plantations and later tobacco fields, Salvador became the poster–child for positive cultural assimilation. The slave trade, which lasted in Bahia until 1888 had a direct impact on the state today; large Afro–Brazilian population and its European, African, and Indigenous blend of cultures. The widespread impact of the slave trade on the county's inhabitants, culture, and the economy proves that the slave trade in Salvador, Brazil led to more than an economical gain for the Portuguese. I argue that slave and race relations in Salvador, Brazil though atrocious had outcomes that remain vastly different from other colonized country's experience during this time racially, socially, and economically. Salvador, historically known as, "São Salvador da Bahia de Todos os Santos" translates to "City of the Holy Savior of the Bay of all Saints," is the largest city on the northeast coast of Brazil and the capital of the Brazilian state of Bahia. Wic 's Bankruptcy And The Loss Of Northern Brazil Amidst the WIC's bankruptcy and the loss of Northern Brazil to Portugal, the Dutch found themselves on the arid island of Curacao with 100,000 slaves and minimal opportunities. But the Dutch are known for their ingenuity and they quickly rebounded from their losses even while her corporate was itself a sinking ship. Part of their initial success revolves around them settling in Curacao before 1642. The WIC realized how invaluable a slave trade depot would be if Northern Brazil would ever fall back into the hands of the Portuguese. Once Curacao was established, the Dutch knew they could continue transporting slaves to the Caribbean and then sell them to the highest bidder. Initially the highest bidder was the Spanish because, unlike the Portuguese, they paid the WIC in cash. However, it took some time to convince the Spanish to consider asiento contracts with them. With the end of the Eighty Years War in 1648, Portugal had previously revolted against Spain in 1640. Portugal, as Postma explains, "had monopolized the slave trade to the Spanish colonies because they were the only Europeans who had African trading bases that could obtain large numbers of slaves." As mentioned, the Treaty of Tordesillas prevented Spain from entering into Africa herself. Therefore, the Spanish had to find alternative means to acquiring their needed labor force. Color Of Modernity In the Color of Modernity: São Paulo and the Making of Race and Nation in Brazil, author Barbara Weinstein examines the ways that residents of São Paulo developed a regional identity designed to set it apart from the rest of the nation, primarily focusing on the years between the 1930s and the 1950s. This paulista identity was largely predicated on ideas of whiteness and what they saw as its causal relation to modernity and progress. The paulistas considered themselves at the top of the national hierarchy, Weinstein explains, and were determined to maintain this position against the encroaching hordes from the impoverished and backwards Nordeste region, cast as a symbol of blackness, indolence and primitiveness. As the Goulart administration had sought to increase the enfranchisement of Brazilians by ending literacy requirements, paulistas regarded this as giving power to the ignorant hordes of the Nordeste. Rather than acknowledge that Marxist thought might hold some appeal to the long–suffering, impoverished nordestinos, paulistas attributed any influence to the natural inclinations of extremism, disorder, and ignorance of the region. Biased by the long– term regional discourse of paulista superiority, determined not to lose its place in the national hierarchy of influence, São Paulo was quick to throw its support behind the military coup. Even by the 1970s, as the state became a center of opposition to the dictatorship, it continued to embrace its regional superiority, this time sneering at nordestinos for voting for the pro–military candidates that the paulistas had ... Even with current events relating to which public restroom one can use is a staunch reminder of the social inequities which exist in the United States of America. Beyond the social dialogue is the spiritual conversation. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer community fight not only an uphill battle with the pressure of society but also how to reconcile a relationship with God and a place within Christianity. Cuhna describes Dengue fever, also known as "breakbone" or "dandy fever", as, "a family of viruses that are transmitted through mosquitos". This disease is very common in tropic and subtropic areas such as Brazil. Dengue Fever has no vaccination and the only way to prevent is to avoid getting bit by a mosquito that carries the disease. The disease comes from a mosquito known as the Aedes aegypti (Halstead, 2008). Since the climate and amount of rainfall are two key factors in the reproduction of the Aedes aegypti global warming and climate change have been playing a role in the dengue fever cases ( Halstead, 2008). This is a struggle for people who live in lower income and over populated areas since they have little to no form of protection and live in less cleanly areas. No one is exactly sure where dengue fever originated from but scientist recently proposed that it came from forests in Asia. Dengue fever has three stages; the first being the acute stage which can last from one to five days, the second is the critical stage which can last up to two to three days, and the last stage which is the recovery stage which is can last up to weeks. Dengue fever symptoms vary in severity. While some people, mainly babies and young children, show little to no symptoms others, such as older children and adults, show mild to severe symptoms. The, No Bread For Thanksgiving Joseph Nguyen MMBio 240 O'Neil Sorry, No Bread for Thanksgiving A few centuries ago, doctors were observing a strange phenomenon: well–fed children, no matter how much they were eating, were malnourished. The only known cure at this time was an all banana diet [later revised to an all fruit diet] (Gut). It wasn't until World War II that a cause was attributed to "Gee–Herter's disease"–the name of this unusual disorder. A shortage of grain led a Dutch pediatrician, Willem–Karel Dicke, to draw the conclusion that wheat was the culprit (Gut). He made this connection when the death rate of children with this disease went from about 35% to 0% during the grain shortage (Sanghavi). Today, Gee–Herter's disease, more commonly known as coeliac or celiac disease, is better understood. Advanced methods in molecular biology have allowed scientists to increase their knowledge of how coeliac disease works. Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disease, meaning that the body's immune system is responsible for the ill symptoms by attacking the body's cells. This is different from an allergy, in that basophils and eosinophil are specifically responsible for allergic responses (Celiac Disease Foundation). When an individual with coeliac disease consumes wheat, barley, or rye [which contain the protein gluten]; it triggers the immune system to attack the body. The small intestine is usually a main target; specifically the villi, which are finger–like projections that line the small ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Variações Rítmicas Op.15 is one of the most significant Nobre's composition from his second period. In this piece, Nobre explores serial techniques and percussive elements. The piece is a mix of Brazilian native rhythms and dodecaphonic music where Nobre explores the Brazilian percussion instruments. "Besides the piano, Variações Rítmicas Op. 15 requires eight typical Brazilian percussion instruments: cuíca aguda (a friction drum which the performer plays with his hand inside the instrument), xocalho (maraca), afoxê (also known as cabaça, it is a maraca covered with a network of beads), reco–reco (a scraper also known as guiro), five agogôs (cowbells), pandeiro (tambourine), tamborim (very small high– pitched drum), and three atabaques (conga drums)." Nobre also wrote several other works that require percussion instruments, such as the ballet Rhythmethron op. 27, composed exclusively for percussion instruments, Sonâncias I op. 37, for piano and percussion; and Sonâncias III op. 49, for two pianos. Those pieces confirms Bartók's influence on Nobre since he also composed a sonata for two piano and percussion, where he explores a variety of popular rhythms from Hungary. Without an education, people would live a life of ignorance and close–mindedness. It helps society function and behaves civilized. Education is a philosophy which is the study of examining and thinking about questionable ethical problems and accepted certainties. People study philosophy to understand fundamental truths about themselves, the world they live in and the relationships to the world and to each other. Paulo Freire was a man who was willing to fight the education system by creating Critical Pedagogy and by the changing the world with his idea. It was a social movement and philosophy of education that developed and applied concepts from critical theory and related theories to the field of education and the study of culture. Paulo Freire was an idealist whose purpose was to build critical consciousness in literacy campaigns, especially in Grenada. Paulo Freire was one of the best influential educators of the world of the 20th century. He was born on September 19, 1921, in the port city of Recife, the capital of Pernambuco in northeastern Brazil, which was one of the poorest regions in the country. Freire was born into a middle–class family but with the global crisis of 1929, his family would endure poverty and hunger. There are two types of fossil lagerstätten: Concentration Lagerstätten (Konzentrat– Lagerstätten) and Conservation Lagerstätten (Konservat–Lagerstätten). Concentration Lagerstätten are deposits of an immense number of preserved fossils, whereas Conservation Lagerstätten are the preservation of fossils in terms of quality rather than quantity (Nudds and Selden, 2008). There might be few fossils in the rock strata, however, the preservation of these are exemplary. There are many outcropping areas on Earth in which fossils are preserved like this. One example of a group of strata that has retained fossils in this way is the Crato Formation. Location The Crato formation, Brazil, is a geological rock formation ... The Crato Formation lithologies were most likely deposited when there was a marine transgression; which is what the Cretaceous period is renowned for (Hu et al. 2012). The build–up of laminated limestones and different lithologies in the stratigraphic column could suggest that it was a lagoon depositional environment (Martill and Frey, 1998). Fossil Assemblage The most prominent fossils in the Crato Formation are the insects that are preserved. One example of an insect that has been recently found is the Araripenymphes seldeni (as seen in figure 3), an extinct species of lacewing (Myskowiak et al., 2016). The taphonomic classification of A.seldini is: Nymphidae Family Neuroptera Order, and Insecta Class (Myskowiak et al., 2016). After Detailed Investigation Relocating Apple to Brazil After detailed investigation of both Kenya and Brazil, my choice for the relocation of Apple remains Brazil for numerous reasons. Brazil is a hotbed of opportunity for those interested in doing business internationally. From a general view point, Brazil is well–developed in areas of agricultural, mining, manufacturing, and service industries. It has been expanding into the world markets and now export several products, like airplanes, vehicles, coffee, and more. Brazil has been trying to reduce its dependence on foreign oil, making the country a leader in production of hydroelectric power, which has created multiple spin–off industries and opportunities like the information technology sector which is fast ... The implication of this is evident and clearly beneficial to Apple. Since Apple provide its services through third party companies, it would be cheaper to buy the services of these companies in Sao Paulo thereby decreasing the running cost as a result the cost of production of Apples products there by increasing the profit margin. Secondly, the abundance of business resources in Sao Paulo make it an inevitable attractive factor for companies wishing to settle or relocate in Brazil. As the largest city in Brazil, São Paulo counts about 20 million residents, and startups are naturally scattered across neighborhoods. The plenty resources available is Sao Paulo include young and Startup's, variety of companies, from tech to farming, who all present an already made market for Apple products. The huge number of skilled workers would provide the employee needs of Apple thereby a great possibility of increasing its services to the public. Symptoms Of Acute Coronary Syndrome Symptoms of Acute Coronary Syndrome Acute coronary syndrome is a medical emergency in women and men that needs immediate attention; it is imperative to identify early symptoms to get an early treatment with good outcomes. The timely recognition of symptoms for this condition could be a matter of life or death for the patient; acute coronary syndrome is responsible for more than seven million deaths around the world each year, (De Vonn, Hogan, Ochs, & Shapiro, 2011). Su, Nyi, and Li (2015) states, "Approximately one–third of people suffering heart attacks die before they reach the hospital" (pp.1). In many cases, when the symptoms of acute coronary syndrome arise, people do not identify them until is too late for an intervention, so it is possible that socio– demographic factors such as, gender, age, ethnicity, and income of an individual influence the recognition of symptoms of acute coronary syndrome and delay treatment? A research study mentions, "The most important factor impacting increasing time to treatment for ACS is the patient's decision to delay seeking care," (De Vonn et al., 2011). Sociodemographic and clinical factors such as, age, education level, and income play an important role for those deciding when to seek for medical attention for symptoms of acute coronary syndrome; "Most patients who reported specific symptoms were male, young, with better financial conditions," (Gouveia, Travassos, Mendes, & Silva, 2015). • 64. 18th Century American Slave Trade History has proven in many points has proven that growth within a country is trade, and a market. As countries grow the population demands different goods, and some become more valued than others. Some countries grow into vast empires, because of the economy built around these trades. The Netherlands and Portugal became great empires, due to the importance of trade, slave trade, and companies that helped power trade. Different trade goods create different economies, and different industries. Some of these industries could be as simple as textile manufacturing, sugar refining, and some type form a movement to developing a homegrown Tobacco. Each of these industries helped push a golden age upon the Dutch Empire. The top trade good, was textiles; after warfare between different city–states the textile industry exploded, the growth so large that the Dutch had to import English wool. The second largest industry was the sugar refinery, which resulted from colonial conquest, of the Caribbean. "Once the Atlantic sugar islands began to surpass Mediterranean sugar production. The Importance of the Act of Reading” by Paulo Freire essay 4 Bredahl Harlie Cheyenne Bredahl Professor Peter Epps Composition II 08 September 2014 I"The Importance of the Act of Reading" by Paulo Freire, describes the importance of the act of reading beyond numerous experiences in his life as a child, a teenager, and an adult. Freire begins his article by taking readers back to where he was born, in his home city Recife, Brazil. He uses very itemized imagery to describe the trees, the house and the atmosphere of where he grew up and how the text, words, and letters were incarnated in the series of things, objects, and signs. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Schools often require reading materials containing unfamiliar subjects to students. Recognizing that there is significance for critical understanding of the text itself as well as the act of reading, this explains why many students today struggle with reading material that is not relevant to their lifestyle. Freire portrays that by the statement, "reading the world precedes reading the word, and reading the word implies continually reading the world" (Freire 286). A person should read their world, and then interpret it. They can then use their existential experience of the world to connect to what they are reading in print, and better understand it. "Reading a text as pure description of an object, and undertaken to mechanically memorize the discrimination, it is neither real reading nor does it result in the knowledge of the object to which the text refers" (Freire 284). When a teacher gives a reading assignment, the students that read to memorize the text likely do not gain the significance of what that literary work contextually attempted to deliver, nor is it necessarily understood by the reader. If a student was really taught the significance and meaning of the text instead of mechanically memorizing it, the student should have

  • 71. Samba De Coco Analysis Focusing on the study of Samba de Coco (a Brazilian folkloric dance originally from the northern region), Ethnographer Daniel Sharp analyses throughout his book two musical groups of the twenty–first century. Mr. Sharp decided to closely analyze them both was because they were directly related to the "reawaking" process after a political transition from a military regime to democratic. Both groups are from the city of Arcoverde, a small city in the backlands of the state of Pernambuco (Northeast of Brazil). Coco Raízes incorporates some African characteristics in its, while Cordel do Fogo Encantado has a more aggressive and cosmopolitan style adding multiple musical genres within. Thus, the group quickly became well–known in Brazil for its musical fragmentation gathering multiple musical genres. After several TV appearances, the media started paying close attention to the economic situation in Arcoverde, a situation that could take years to be fixed due to the change of political regime. Indeed, their "apocalyptic musical style" criticizing poverty, violence, and drought was a fragmented and declamatory way of seeing the future through the lens of the past, in other words, "they incorporated national and regional themes within the negative aesthetics of Death Metal" – (Sharp 2014). Sharp, then, explained that Coco Raíz had two ironic representation: one is the mud hut replica used as a museum; this iconic representation was built after Lula Calixto's death (founder of the group Coco Raiz), Lula died of Chagas disease, a disease generalized at the time due to the mud hut houses as it is a propitious place for the procreation of the triatomine bug. Another ironic observation made by Sharp is seeing Coco Raízes working to spread their afro–Brazilian musical form and making it predominant in a white and mestiço interior backlands. Coco Ráizes was using the past to argue in present trying to create a better future. The author does not go into translation details sometimes, therefore it becomes difficult to understand what he is trying to say. Another critic in this book would be Sharp's methodology, he did not want to learn how to play Samba de Coco, instead he wanted to analyze the two groups as a journalist, for he felt that asking too much for musical instructions would somehow affect his relationship with the musicians. • 75. Black Orpheus Analysis It is common practice to see old tales revamped for the modern day like romeo and juliet. Franco Zeffirelli brought Romeo and Juliet to the big screen in 1968, while Baz Luhrmann's version added a modern twist in 1997. This is no different for Marcel Camus's rendition of the classic Orpheus and Eurydice story. His version adds quite a twist from the greek original taking place in Rio during Carnival. The story follows the same like but the culture, and backdrop that envelopes the story is completely different. It is a quite authentic example of Carnival and the use of the music style Bossa Nova during the mid 20th century. The authenticity is even furthered when one learns that the two man composer group who made the beautiful soundtrack are from Rio. Black Orpheus is an authentic look into the festival of carnival and also the state of Brazil in the mid 1950s. Some of the underlying feeling of Brazilians relating to its culture are not seen throughout the book, but are expressed by Gilberto Frye who is quoted.
