The Things They Carried Analysis Essay
Crafting an essay on "The Things They Carried" requires a delicate balance of literary analysis,
critical thinking, and a deep understanding of the novel's themes, characters, and narrative
techniques. Tim O'Brien's work is rich in symbolism and explores the psychological impact of
war on individuals, making the task of dissecting its nuances challenging.
The novel's layered structure, shifting perspectives, and intricate narrative demand careful
attention. Analyzing the characters' burdens, both physical and emotional, requires a nuanced
understanding of the author's intent and the broader historical context of the Vietnam War.
Moreover, delving into the symbolism of the items carried by the soldiers adds another layer of
complexity to the essay.
Ensuring a coherent and insightful analysis requires not only a thorough reading of the text but
also a comprehensive understanding of literary devices, such as imagery, metaphor, and
symbolism. Additionally, integrating scholarly sources and critical perspectives can elevate the
essay, providing a broader context for the interpretation.
Moreover, capturing the emotional depth and impact of the narrative requires a skillful use of
language and a keen awareness of the author's stylistic choices. Articulating the profound
themes of trauma, loss, and the nature of storytelling in "The Things They Carried" demands a
thoughtful and empathetic approach.
In conclusion, writing an analysis essay on "The Things They Carried" is a challenging endeavor
that necessitates a combination of literary acumen, critical thinking, and a profound
understanding of the novel's intricacies. The task requires careful navigation through layers of

Mary Anne Warren Analysis
Mary Anne Warren argues in the position that abortion is morally permissible
because the fetus is not a person therefore has no rights and not considered immoral
to be killed. I shall argue that Warren s argument in invalid since the claims of
argument cannot be proven. The general argument made from Warren is (1) If a
person, they have the right to life, (2) The fetusis not considered a person, and (3)
Therefore, since the fetus is not a person they do not have a right to life. Also, (4)
A human being needs all the morals of personhood to be considered a person, (5)
An infant does not have morals, and (6) Therefore, an infant is not a person because
the do not have the morals to be considered a person. From the time that Warren s
article. On the Moral and Legal Status of Abortion, was published she had gotten
critiques that her argument appears to justify not only abortion, but infanticide as
well. (Warren, 16) Warren claims that if her argument is valid then infanticide is not
a form of murder, since you are not killing a person. A human being is a person if
they have the previous characteristics of personhood introduced into her argument.
According to Warren... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her argument does not specify if the same reasoning can be applied to fetuses. Not
specifying which certain traits are needed to be classified as a person opens up
questions for critics saying that it is not wrong for infanticide because an infant is not
more of a person than a fetus according to her arguments. Although her response
about this is that infanticide is not just because it deprives the infants from people
that care about them and can find happiness along their side. A person might want to
raise these infants and the reason why they should be put into orphanages. In the end
Warren s argument is contradicting that infanticide is morally wrong because it

How Greek And Roman Culture Changed Over Time Essay
Greek and Roman archeology changed over time in regards to how individuals were
recognized. The political state of the regions within both cultures altered the
representation of individuals. Greek ideals about representing people and members
of society The Greek idea of the personal and the political evolved from an ideal
glorying the city, less than the individual to highlighting the strength of the
individuals. Athens is the best source of evidence in terms of archaeological and
literary to identify how the societies were shaped. Athens was a place of democracy
so during this time, the main ideal was that the city had more importance then the
self, so most of the architecture demonstrated unity. This was also seen in the art, as

Both the Greeks and Romans admired Alexander the Great. The Greeks had busts
and portraits of Alexander. The Romans also very much so revered Alexander and
his military success and had many literature symbols of him. As Greek art changed
over time due to the political progression, there was a similar highlight of ruler s
power that was evident in Roman art. This is similar to in class, how we saw that
often the leaders were represented in art to be related to gods and god like to give
their presence even more power. I find it quite interesting of how the Greeks in the
early time prided on the civic presence more then the individual, which actually
highlights their selfness nature. This change in art form is important for architecture
as it shows the influence politics on the value of the self in society and the civic duty
associated during that specific culture. This ties into today s society and shows
political influence on art and culture. In North Korea, Kim Jong Un, values art that
highlights himself and his families omnipotence, as he is the leader of the country.
However, in America, the street art, or even abstract art is more towards a culture and
showcasing individualistic talent. Politics in the past or present, influences culture in
many ways but most importantly it changes the way people view themselves in
Waylon Jennings Research Paper
Waylon Arnold Jennings was born on June 15, 1937 and died on February 13,
2002. Waylon Jennings, who claims to have both Cherokee and Comanche
ancestry, was born and raised in Littlefield, Texas. His father worked a succession
of jobs from cotton farming to truck driving, and the Jennings family had little
extra cash. Waylon himself began to pick cotton while still a youngster, but his
heart was in music. As a child he immersed himself in the works of such country
greats as Ernest Tubb and Hank Williams, then he discovered pop music and its
nascent rock roll beat. A performer from an early age, he saw singing as the only
escape from a life of drudgery in the cotton fields.Jennings began playing guitar at
eight and began performing at 14 on KVOW radio. Jennings was a familiar sight in
talent shows in his region, playing guitar and singing country or pop tunes. He
dropped out of high school for a full time job with the Littlefield radio station,
where he spun discs and performed with his own band, the Texas Longhorns. In
1958 he took a job at a station in Lubbock, Texas, and there he met a young
entertainer named Buddy Holly. Holly had already achieved national stardom with

Job And Moving Up The Corporate Or Executive Ladder
There is a reality in the key to be successful in your job and moving up the corporate
or executive ladder. We need to learn how to manage our managers. This doesn t
mean to tell them what to do or to control their responsibilities. The art of knowing
how to manage your manager goes further than this. But it s not only about getting to
know your manager or their organizational need. But it s also about projecting and
building trust. It s about managing up. When I saw this subject for this paper I
thought to myself; I know a few things about this, I spend many countless hours
managing up. I do whatever I can to make my manager s job easy. Managing up is
another term to turn into an indispensable asset to your manager. I will be using my
experience in the subject.
According to Thomas Zuber and Erika James, managing up is the process of
consciously working with your boss to obtain the best possible results for you, your
boss, and your organization. This is not political maneuvering or kissing up. Rather, it
is a deliberate effort to bring understanding and cooperation to a relationship between
individuals who often have different perspectives. (McMullen) Managing the
manager have many great benefits. It s not about sucking up to the boss but rather
about understanding and helping your boss be more successful without coming
across as an opportunist. One of the things to always remember is that this has to be a
win win situation, everyone must win. The Manager organization,
Patriotism In The Movie Glory
The film Glory (1989) is an astonishing production of true patriotism. The storyline
follows the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the first all black military unit
from the North during the Civil War. Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, a white
Bostonian coming from a prominent abolitionist family, led the regiment in fighting
for the Union. At the beginning, Shaw did not share the same passion that his
parents possessed for freeing the slaves. Robert spent his life as a young adult
traveling Europe before attending Harvard from 1856 to 1859. It was after he
dropped out of school that he was recruited for the military. At the beginning of the
movie, he is wounded in the neck in the southern battle near Sharpsburg, Maryland,
commonly known as the Battle of Antietam. Found to be an exceptional Union
soldier as a Captain for two years, he is promoted to the rank of Colonel, and placed
in command of the 54th Massachusetts.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the men led the attack with their brave charge, I knew what was to come. It was
interesting, but truly brave for this regiment to lead the assault. Colonel Shaw urged
his men forward, demonstrating his passionate, honorable leadership. I felt sad, yet
amazed by the amount of courage that these men had. Shaw was killed during this
charge, and with him, most of the regiment. The movie does not produce a happy
ending like many others, but shows the true tragedy that can come about during a
war. I believe the scene that affected me most was the burial. The confederates laid
Robert s body with the multitude of black men who were killed, attempting to
dishonor him. I found this to symbolize true equality, not humiliation. The color of
one s skin does not flaunt the amount of courage or honor they possess. I would have
been proud to be buried with those men. They fought with bravery, but most of all,
they fought with heart. That is true patriotism in my

Subculture Of Knitting
When some of us hear about knitting, we might automatically picture our grey haired
grandmother sitting on the couch casting on stitches to her knitting needles, but since
recently, this perception has started to shift. In this essay, I will look at the many
ways in which the subculture of knitting helps reduce depression. First, I will be
discussing how knittingcreates communities that help reduce depression. I will then
be describing how taking time to knit reduces depression. Furthermore, I will express
how the colors and texture of knitting yarnhas the capability of reducing depression.
Next, it will be mentioned how knitting allows freedom of expression which in turn
reduces depression. Lastly, I will discuss how knitting helps to build... Show more

that is usually familiar to people and since it can be easily removed it carries no
negative intentions. She also puts forth that yarn bombing allows people to
express themselves while being able to connect to people and the space that
surrounds us. I recall walking out of the metro one day to find many trees yarn

so beautifully. It was as though it was meant to be there all along. The many
textures and techniques that were used were pleasing to the eye and it was
difficult to look away. Even though it stood out because most of the colors were
incredibly bright, it brought people close together because instead of walking by
as most of us usually do in the busy city, we took the time to stop and admire what
we saw in front of us. People would exchange words with each other about their
impressions about the color usage and about how unusual it was to see knitted
projects placed in and around the trees. These people would usually walk by each
other without so much as a glance, but it was the knitting that brought them together.
The very idea that individuals have the freedom to express themselves with knitting

Sexual Harassment Papers
Sexual harassment is something that is happening daily. Trying to cope with the
emotional damage can be a lot worse than the harassment itself. It can have an affect
on your job, or personal life.
Employees who are harassed report lower levels of job satisfaction, organizational
commitment, and job performance. Employees experience higher levels of
psychological distress and physical problems than those who are not harassed.
Victims of workplace sexual harassment experience a range of ill effects, such as job
dissatisfaction and absenteeism.
Victims also exhibit nervousness, anger and irritability, low self esteem and elevated
stress.
Ignoring sexual harassment is also relatively common.

There are four types of support that are included in the interactive coping. One
approach recommends both pity and determined behaviors that attend to the victim s
needs, such as helping students deal with internal reactions, providing information,
and assisting as students decide what to do. A second approach indicates the use of
strategies, such as providing information or advice. A third approach supports the
rights and concerns of accused perpetrators above all others, indicating the need to
ask pointed questions to prove students who make false complaints. Women rarely
use complaint procedures to help with coping of sexual harassment. They usually try
to avoid the perpetrator or talk to a friend and react with rejection and anxiety.
Women who are sexually harassed seek help from a friend or family member. Even
though women may have difficulty coping with sexual harassment, they might find
themselves in a dangerous situation because of the lack of support they get and a
sense of separation.
Responding efficiently to someone who has been sexually harassed might require

Extraverted Sensing Feeling Judging Summary
My Jungian Typology is Extraverted Sensing Feeling Judging (ESFJ). According
to Carl Jung and Isabel Briggs Myers personality type theory, I enjoy entertaining,
giving, and being in charge. I am also easily hurt and when I feel hurt, it s
impossible to hide. I have a hard time making a decision because I am torn between
choosing what is right for others instead of the right choice for me. I have a good
sense of danger and I tend to tread carefully in situations that could result in negative
consequences for others and myself.
I consider the description of my personality Jungian type to be pretty accurate. The
only two characteristics I am not so sure about is whether I enjoy entertaining and
that I like to be in charge. I don t feel very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I sent the link to him so that he could take it himself. I was curious to see what his
result would be. He is nowhere near as sensitive as I am so I knew his result had to
be different. His result is different, but only in one dimension. He is considered
Extraverted Sensing Thinking Judging (ESTJ); therefore, the only difference was that
I was more Feeling than Thinking.
I learned from the Jungian personality assessment that I can handle communicating
differently depending on the topic. Communication is easier for me if the topic
involves emotions or resolving ongoing issues. I can have a hard time
communicating if the discussion does not have a clear direction or solution. I also
prefer to be involved in helpful conversation as opposed to a conversation that does
not provide any gains. It is easier for me to retain information when tangible
examples are specified, so that I can relate the information to personal or emotional
experience.
The results from the productivity quiz showed that I am productive, but still require
some improvement. There are five elements of being productive which include:
organization, attitude, delegations, information systems, and effective use of
systems. The area of organization is where I could use the most improvement.

More than 25 percentage of the U.S. population were affected, and caused 675,000
deaths in U.S during the pandemic.(History, 2015). There were no effective
treatments for this type of influenzaand no available vaccines can prevent its spread
during the period. (History, 2015) U.S government required general population to
wear masks and other protective equipments in public areas, and many public places
also closed due to the influenza strike. Health care providers tried everything they
knew to save people, but none shows any evidence of effects. (National Center for

virus had invaded their lungs and caused pneumonia, which made so many people

The media plays a massive role in the politics of the United States today and truly sets
the agenda and makes an extensive impression on public opinion. Through political
advertising on the Internet and television along with numerous other outlets, the
opinions of citizens on issues such as healthcare, presidency candidates, and many
other concerns can be immensely swayed. Many Americans are not politically
intelligent or knowledgeable in current events so one well thought out advertisement
can nudge someone to vote for a particular person or advocate for a certain issue.
Political advertising does not significantly differ from advertising a consumer product
such as Fructis shampoo or Poptarts because both are pushing all the good things
about their product/issue onto you and hoping that you buy into what they are
advertising and take the bait. Also, some advertisements will promote how bad the
opposition is while declaring that their commodity/candidate is more qualified and
superior for numerous reasons. Due to the fact that these political advertisements and
the media manipulate political perspectives, this truly is an insult to the idea of free
elections because as the government through advertising is now shaping Americans
beliefs there are no longer unaltered political views. The people are no longer making
their own decisions but rather having choices placed in front of them. The system of

Reflection On My English 101 Experience
Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble
words from your mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and done.
However, you rarely get successful. The truth is many students, including myself,
struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in the middle without
knowing the main point of the writing. After completing English 101, I can explain
the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay, and identify my
weaknesses. Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing
process was imperative. Before taking this class, I use to always skip the pre
writing step considering that it is just an easy and unnecessary step. Consequently, I
struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I struggled to figure
out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to
the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I
started this class that learned that pre writing is vital, and requires time and attention
as it holds the base of the whole writing. My professor used different analogies such
as blueprint for building and map for navigation to explain the importance. It really
speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it. I have learned outlining before, but
part of the pre writing that I was fortunate enough to learning in English 101 is the
writing triangle. Even before outlining, the topic, purpose, and audience of the

He hated Christmas so much, it even caused the 3 ghost s of Christmas to come visit
him when he was sleeping.
Due to this, it is caused by his selfishness, greed, and many more.
The first part in the story made the readers feel like he was an antagonist at first, but
he was the protagonist.
I ll now be explaining what its like of how Scrooge seen Christmas,

But, all that has changed ever since he encountered the 3 ghosts.
Another reason is that when he was sent into the past by a specific type of ghost; he
encountered Tiny Tim.
Tiny Tim had no recovery whatsoever due to him being injured (mental state injured)
and didn t have the money; thus making him have no medical supplies.
Thus causes Scrooge to go into an depressive state and worries for the kids safety
despite him hating Christmas until the day ends, and which is sad.
This causes Scrooge to change for the greater good; as soon as he finishes the
encounters and time traveling with the 3 ghosts of Christmas, he then goes to dinner
with the family (I forgot their last names).
The final thing for this was that it was a greater change for Scrooge; because he was
in fact an harsh man until he encountered the good side of Christmas.
One more reason is his wife. His ex wife because that he had an past with her; he
only relied on money.
This made his wife call him changed and what not, which is very

The Conflict Theory Of Social Groups
Intergroup Competition is the idea that social groups will extend from the desire
for a group to gain the scarce resources that exist (36 40). This idea is greatly
supported by the segment on affirmative action in the video (36 40). As said in the
movie, the idea is that scholarship money and grant money is a scarce resource when
students decide to go to college (37 40). In this view, the individuals who are against
affirmative actionare competing for that scarce resource (36 40). By using
techniques like affirmative action and racial and/or ethnic based scholarships
present the subordinate group s strive for power, and the arguments against these
resources are the dominant group s attempt to maintain their power (36 40).
Moreover, the strive to gain these programs is not just for their own individual self
interest, but is for the interest of their social group as a whole to maintain the
group s desires (36 40). It is in this belief that s the Realistic Conflict Theory resides
(36 40). In this, their exists the view that this conflict for scarce resources
subsequently produces prejudice, in which a privileged group has a sense of group
position and strives to protect it (36 40). This is shown in the video by the idea of
reverse racism, in which the dominant group tries to grain pity for their loss of
domination by saying that affirmative action gives African Americans an unfair
advantage, thus racially profiling the subordinate group while trying to maintain their

Acute care is medical treatment at a hospital which is short term. Acute care is a
level of health care in which a patient is treated for a brief but severe episode of illness

consultants reported having a formalized acute team in their hospital.
There have been are strain on the increase number of patients who are acutely sick

hospitals mostly have a junior doctor who may be in their first two years of training

compounds and elements like chloride, phosphate, potassium, calcium, sodium, and

when body electrolytes are hyper (high) or hypo(low) it leads to electrolyte disorder,

The prohibition proved that Americans will do whatever they can to get ahold of
this magical substance no matter the laws or restrictions. So obviously doing away
with alcohol will not stop its manufacturing or its use and if anything it will

the prohibition the drinking age was raised back up to 21. The age stayed there
until the vietnam war came around. Then, states began to lower their personal
drinking age to 18 (Tietjan why 21) justifying themselves with the argument If a

economics. The crisis would leave millions of Americans in difficult financial straits.
As a result, the free coinage of silver increasingly gained momentum throughout the
nation in the years immediately following. This gained such significant attention that
it would serve as the primary national issue in the election of 1896. The Republican
and Democratic parties would each align in this election for or against this
polarizing issue. The Republicans supported the gold standard while the Populist
supported Democrats endorsed a silver standard and bimetallism. The election of
1896 would be dominated by the issue of financial backing through the campaigns of
William McKinley and William Jennings Bryan. The results of the election would

The results of the election would serve as an example of the nations direction to
move away from rural agriculture and towards urban industrialism. Events such as
the passing of the Sherman Silver Purchase Act, the Nevada silver discovery, and the
Panic of 1893 served as significant catalysts for the issue of financial backing. In
response to this several political organizations formed in an effort to pursue economic
change. The Populist Party would ultimately become the most significant such
organization. The influence of the Populists would be tested in the election of 1896
in which the elections primary question was the silver standard. The Populist
endorsed Democrat William Jennings Bryan helped bring the issue to center stage
through efforts such as his speech Cross of Gold . The victory of Bryan s opponent,
William McKinley, would signify the nations trend towards an urban industrialized
Wife Of Bath s Tale Analysis
In The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer gives multiple examples in The Wife of Bath s
Tale of Alice, The Wife, intellectually manipulating her husbands, which portray her
as a rebel against female norms of her day and a trailblazer for women going forward.
However, there are some incredibly conflicting aspects of the Wifeof Bath s portrayal
of women. Certainly, it can be said The Wife of Bath s Alice was far ahead of her
time. In a period when men ruled and women were expected to be subservient, she
was the rare exception. She contradicted all the norms of the day and even at times
seemed to contradict herself.
Although she uses her intelligence to achieve what she wants, she uses another
woman s misfortune as a catalyst for her story and a ... Show more content on

For example, she partially justified having been married five times on the basis that
it was her duty to continue to bear children as God bade us to increase and multiply
(28). She was so adamant that her beliefs were the correct ones that she would grow
upset when Jenkin, her fifth husband, would search his Bible through for a proverb
of Ecclesiasticus as an attempt to try to change her opinion (649 50). Although
half her age, Jenkin, obviously bullied The Wife of Bath with his misogynistic
views of women and his belief that women were the cause of men s downfall.
Finally, after a night when Jenkin blamed Eve as the reason Jesus Christ himself
was slain, she could take no more (717). Alice tore [three leaves] out of his book
and then with her fist gave his cheek a hit and he fell backwards right into the fire
(792 93). In the past, Alice had not been afraid to manipulate men and in this
instance, Jenkin, to acquire what she wanted. She ripped Jenkin s book, hit him,
knocked him into the fire and when he jumped up like a lion full of ire and hit her
back, she pretended to be dying (794). However, her manipulations came to
fruition as evidenced by her declaration thus gained for myself all the sovereignty

over her husband.

West Germany Research Paper
In this lesson, we explore the evolution of Germany after the reunification of East
Germany and West Germany in 1990 and the lasting legacy of communism.
!!!Germany After Communism
Breakups are hard. Whether it s a divorce or the split of two long term partners, the
process is never easy. As difficult as breaking up can be, the same two people
coming back together is usually an even more arduous task. It s not that much easier
for countries. But it was exactly this process which occurred in 1990 in Germany.
What made it even harder was that Germany s two halves had completely different
economic and political legacies; West Germany was a democratic, capitalist state,
while East Germany was a single party communist country. In this lesson, we ... Show

East Germans tended to view the attitude of West Germans as competitive, arrogant,
and aggressive. Moreover, they resented the prosperity of western Germany. West
Germans found East Germans behavior similarly peculiar. West Germans viewed
East Germans as passive at best, lazy at worst. They were resentful of the reopened
east, which many western Germans viewed as a drain on their economy.
While these differences persisted, German politicians worked to get Germany out of
the deep economic rut into which it had fallen. In the late 1990s, the government of
Chancellor Gerhard Schroder attempted to streamline Germany s highly
bureaucratized public welfare system and lessen the system s costs in preparation for
the large number of Germans who would soon reach old age. In addition, the German
government lowered taxes to encourage domestic business and foreign investment.
These policies, coupled with a period of global economic prosperity in the early
2000s, helped make Germany the economic powerhouse of Europe. Today, with
Chancellor Angela Merkel (first elected in 2005) Germany remains the economic
backbone of the European Union and is a major player internationally as a G7
country and a regular rotating member of the UN Security
Different Types Of Sedimentary Basins
Different Types of Sedimentary Basins There is upwards of 144 sedimentary
basins identified just in the United States, whether they may be onshore or
offshore (Coleman, 2012). The day to day classification used for most basins is
quite simple and is based on the scheme: if basins are formed within or near the
margins of a craton, basins that are formed between cratons and extends onto
oceanic crust, and basins which form on oceanic crust for the most part and are
independent of cratons (Coleman, 2012). Following with the same classification
scheme, basins can be put into these four basic groups; however, these groups have
more specific subgroups within, twelve (12) total to be exact. While this is true, for

The province, itself covers between 50,000 and 70,000 square miles, and just
throughout the southern region of the basin, contains sedimentary rocks that most
likely exceed 40,000 feet deep. More than half of the strata within, ages from
Cambrian to Permian, being a part of the gas fields that are said to be the largest
producers of hydrocarbons in the basin. The Anadarko is one of the most prolific
hydrocarbon producers in the continental United States (Hugman and Vidas, 1987;
Johnson, 1988). There are only minor occurrences of Mesozoic and Cenozoic strata
in the northwest part of the province (Henry). Rocks aging older than Mississippian
are predominately carbonates, while younger rocks consist of mainly shales and
some sandstones why are these important? Well, while the only make up only a small
part of the basin, they account for the large mass of petroleum production (Henry).
The Fundy Basin It is believed that the Fundy Basin got its name due to being
ironically located just south of the Cobequid Chedabucto Fault system in Nova Scotia
and beneath the infamous Bay of Fundy (Wade, 1996). This basin, in particular, is
considered one of the failed rifts of the half graben formed by the mid late Triassic
break up of Pangea. The Fundy Basin is a sediment filled, proto oceanic rift basin

The Limitations Of The Code Of Hammurabi
The limitations of the code of Hammurabi begin with ranking. Everybody in the
area gets punished if they break a rule, but depending on what you do and where
you stand in social class will determine your punishment. The rules and laws that
they create are announced to everybody, so he who breaks a law is completely
aware of why he has broken the rules and it is his fault entirely. The currency price is
short but it s because each gold mina or coin, contains much value.
Some resources we can use to find out more information on Babylonians, and their
lifestyle is by going to a library and looking in history books that talk about the
ancient life. The religion in the Mesopotamian society consisted of many gods that
played different roles some for good and others for evil. Babylonians believe that
Hammurabi was a selected by Bel, a god believed to be the lord of heaven and earth,
to lead Babylon as an empire. Thus, the Hammurabi code was created and followed
through all social hierarchies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following along with the code of Hammurabi, the actual price that had to be paid for
certain items or a punishment was very low, but only because the value of a gold
mina was very high. The society is divided up into social hierarchy, and if you re
ranking higher than another person and you break a rule of Hammurabi s you are
most likely forced to pay a gold mina, and nothing more. If you rank lower in the
society and break a law, you will probably suffer physical pain, such as having your
eye out or a bone broken in your body. The code of Hammurabi was a very strict
code when it came to the consequences. Other troubles such as flooding a farmer s
cornfield due to lack of effort in maintaining a water dam, ends in having to pay to

The Development of Feminism in the 1800 s
Throughout the history of the world women have often been subjected to fewer
rights and to a lower social class than that of men. In most societies the traditional
role of the woman was the role of wife, mother, and caretaker. Women endured this
type of prejudiced behavior since the dawn of time until the first women s movements
began to develop during the 1800 s in the United States and Europe. These women s
movements are often referred to as feminist movements or feminism. The
development of feminism in the 1800 s was a very crucial part of history because
women began the long road of gaining women s rights with the Seneca Falls

Susan Brownell Anthony, often referred to as Susan B. Anthony, she is known as
being a pioneer crusader for the woman suffrage movement in the United States
(History.com Staff). Susan came from a very politically active family. Her family
played a role in both the abolitionist movement and the temperance movement. In
fact, Susan became interested in fighting for women s rights while in attendance of
a temperance convention. Susan was denied the chance to speak at the convention
due to the fact that she was a woman, and women were not allowed to speak at such
conventions. That moment made her later realize that women would never be able
to be taken seriously in politics until they had the right to vote (Sochen). After
coming to this realization, Susan B. Anthony dedicated the rest of her life to
fighting for the rights of women, especially the right to vote. Susan met and became
close to a fellow activist by the name of Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Together Susan and
Elizabeth founded the National Woman Suffrage Association, created The
Revolution a weekly publication that lobbied for women s rights, and edited a
series of volumes of History of Woman Suffrage together. The dynamic duo worked
hard side by side delivering speeches across the country urging others to support
women s right to vote, but Susan began to grow restless and decided to take matters
into her own hands. During the presidential election of 1872 Anthony illegally voted

time travel Essay
For many years time travel was the stuff of science fiction. This was all just part of
the world s imagination until recently. Scientists now believe that the current laws of
physics allow us to travel though time. They believe that we can now travel back to
see our founding fathers sign the declaration of independence. We could travel to
2999 to witness the birth of the next new millennium. Such travel would require a
machine capable of withstanding great pressures and incredible amounts of speed.
The act of actually traveling though timeis for the most part, agreed upon, but the
implications of such travel is not so decided upon. Many different theorists have

To get the other half we have to convert our thinking from moving though time to
moving though space time (Hewitt 213). When we move, we not only move
through space, we move though time. This is the idea of space time. If a person
were to stand still, they would be moving only though time. If they moved a little bit,
they would be moving though space a little bit, but still mostly though time. If one
were to travel at the speed of light, what changes would they experience in time?
The answer is simple; they would be traveling through space, with no travel though
time (Hewitt 214). They would be as ageless as light, for light travels though space
only (not time) and is timeless. gt; The frame of reference of a photon, a particle of
light, a trip across the universe would take no time at all (Hewitt 214).
To understand how traveling though time would work, we must first understand
how time and space can be stretched. Motion in space affects motion in time.
Whenever we move through space, we to some degree alter our rate of motion in
time. This is known as time dilation, a stretching of time that occurs ever so
slightly for everyday speeds, but significantly for speeds approaching the speed of
light. If we were to attempt to travel to the nearest star, Alpha Centauri, which is 4
light years away, even traveling at the speed of light would take 8 years round trip
(Hewitt 228). The center of our galaxies is something like 30000 light years away
and at the speed of light
How Did Roger Chillingworth Committed The Greatest Sin
Roger Chillingworth committed the greatest sin. He seems to be the character
that has the highest amount of flaws and also the highest amount of sins. He sent
his beautiful wife away to Boston for about two years, so he could live with Native
Americans, and he became upset when he found her with a child that was not his
own. Chillingworth is also a man of science, which means more than likely, he is
not a man of God. In fact, he loses his soul to Satan and basically becomes one of
his demons. If sins could be greater or lesser than one another, his terrible sin of
revenge would be the greatest one of all. After Hester Prynne stands on the
scaffold for her sin, Chillingworth goes to her cell for two reasons. The public
reason is to take care of her and little Pearl; the private reason is to figure out who
the father of her baby is. Hester vows not to tell who the father is and not to tell
who Chillingworth really is. From that moment on, Roger Chillingworth devotes the
rest of his life to finding out who the father is and to seek revenge on that man. He

The contrast between the inside and the outside of the Kowalski s apartment
intensifies, or creates drama, as it makes a divide between the internal world of the
apartment and the external world of the street, as well as portrays Blanche s struggle
between living in reality and fantasy. Williams utilization of the flexible set allows
the street to be seen at the same time as the inside of the apartment to suggest that the
home is not impermeable to the outside world, or reality, and thus the problems from
the outside world enter the Kowalski s apartment, intensifying the drama. The most
notable example of the use of interior and exterior sets is in scene 10. In scene 10,
Stanley rapes Blanche. However, right before it occurs, the back wall of the
apartment becomes transparent to reveal the situation happening on the street, that of
a drunk person and a prostitute, a police whistling to them to leave and a black
woman coming upon the prostitute s purse and going through it. Each aspect of the
external world seen after the apartment wall becomes transparent foreshadows or
relates to the events and happenings within the home. The drunk man illustrates
Blanche and Stanley s habit to drink a lot, the prostitute symbolizes Blanche s
association of sex and death, and the black woman going through the purse
foreshadows the violation that is going to occur in the apartment.
Although both Miller and Williams use the set as a means of

Were the Founding Fathers Democratic Reformers Essay

Were the Founding Fathers Democratic Reformers? After reading both view points
of John P. Roche and Howard Zinn, I felt like there were more things to back up the
arguments made by Zinn, which is one of the reasons why I think that the founding
fathers were not in fact democratic reformers. The founding fathers were wealthy
statesmen who worked for the best of their interests to preserve their wealth. Howard
Zinn s writing discusses the American Revolution, putting military actions in social
and cultural context. On one hand, forming a militia quickly was possible because so
many colonists were armed. On the other hand, the new nation soon started forcing

First off, many of the founding fathers were wealthy, came from good families and
were well educated. Howard Zinn states that the founding fathers based the
Constitution off of their own personal experiences without considering the past
experiences of the average citizen. That does not mean that they were completely
selfish and based the whole Constitution around them, it just means that many of their
economic interests were reflected in the Constitution itself. He goes on about how
economic interests were seen in the clauses of the Constitution and the founding
fathers had a direct economic interest in forming a strong central government.
According to Zinn, the founding fathers thought factions came from inequalities in
wealth. Further into the reading he said that the Constitution was meerly the work of
certain groups trying to maintain their privilages while giving enough rights and
reason to the people to get a majority to support them. I think that Zinn s arguments
were backed up very well with information or logistic examples. I think that the
founding fathers were democratic reformers to a certain extent but in the
Constitution, minorities such as slaves, indentured servants, women and men without
property were not really mentioned which kind of shows that the Constitution was
aimed for more of the elite class, usually all who had plenty of wealth and heald a
good social status. I feel like

The British East India Company was an English and later (from 1707) British joint
stock company formed for pursuing trade with the East Indies but which ended up
trading mainly with the Indian subcontinent.
The East India Company traded mainly in cotton, silk, indigo dye, salt, saltpetre, tea
and opium. Shares of the company were owned by wealthy merchants and
aristocrats. The government owned no shares and had only indirect control. The
Company eventually came to rule large areas of India with its own private army,
exercising military power and assuming administrative functions. Company rule in
India effectively began in 1757 after the Battle of Plassey and lasted until 1858

The Mughal convoy included the treasure laden Ganj i Sawai, reported to be the
greatest in the Mughal fleet and the largest ship operational in the Indian Ocean, and
its escort, the Fateh Muhammed. They were spotted passing the straits en route to
Surat. The pirates gave chase and caught up with the Fateh Muhammed some days
later, and meeting little resistance, took some ВЈ50,000 to ВЈ60,000 worth of treasure.
The Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II and his allies fought against the British East India
Company during his early years (1760 1764), he only accepted the protection of the
British in the year 1803, after he was blinded by his enemies and deserted by his
subjects.
The Company continued to experience resistance from local rulers during its
expansion. Robert Clive led company forces against Siraj Ud Daulah, the last
independent Nawab of Bengal, Bihar, and Midnapore district in Orissa to victory at
the Battle of Plassey in 1757, resulting in the conquest of Bengal. This victory
estranged the British and the Mughals, since Siraj Ud Daulah was a Mughal
feudatory ally.
With the gradual weakening of the Marathas in the aftermath of the three Anglo
Maratha wars, the British also secured Ganges Jumna Doab, the Delhi Agra region,
parts of Bundelkhand, Broach, some districts of Gujarat, fort of Ahmmadnagar,
province of Cuttack (which included Mughalbandi/the coastal part of Orissa,
Kr Hydrate Lab Report
The dissociation process of Kr hydrate at 260 K were further examined in detail. The
radial distribution functions (RDFs) for O O, O H, Kr O, Kr Kr pairs simulated at
five different time period (0 30 ps, 90 120 ps, 120 150 ps, 150 180 ps and 180 210
ps) at temperatures of 260 K and pressure of 1.05 MPa are compared in Fig. 3. The
first O O peak locates at 2.75 Г…, corresponding to the typical O O distance
between two neighboring water molecules interacting with a hydrogen bond. The
second O O peak (at 4.51 Г…) in Fig. 3a originates from the tetrahedral H bonding
network in the clathrate structures. In Fig. 3b, the first peak at 0.99 Г… for O H
pair simply arises from the O H bond length of water molecules; and the second peak
at 1.77 Г… measures... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Fig. 3d, the Kr Kr RDF averaged for 0 30 ps still has one peak (6.81 Г…) as the
stable sII structure, suggesting that Kr molecules have not escaped from the water

obtained from 120 ps to 150 ps, which suggest a small amount of Kr gather in the
form of small Kr bubbles distributed in aqueous solution. As the MD simulation
continues, a large Kr bubble is formed within the supercell, which is evidenced by the

  • 2. Mary Anne Warren Analysis Mary Anne Warren argues in the position that abortion is morally permissible because the fetus is not a person therefore has no rights and not considered immoral to be killed. I shall argue that Warren s argument in invalid since the claims of argument cannot be proven. The general argument made from Warren is (1) If a person, they have the right to life, (2) The fetusis not considered a person, and (3) Therefore, since the fetus is not a person they do not have a right to life. Also, (4) A human being needs all the morals of personhood to be considered a person, (5) An infant does not have morals, and (6) Therefore, an infant is not a person because the do not have the morals to be considered a person. From the time that Warren s article. On the Moral and Legal Status of Abortion, was published she had gotten critiques that her argument appears to justify not only abortion, but infanticide as well. (Warren, 16) Warren claims that if her argument is valid then infanticide is not a form of murder, since you are not killing a person. A human being is a person if they have the previous characteristics of personhood introduced into her argument. According to Warren... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her argument does not specify if the same reasoning can be applied to fetuses. Not specifying which certain traits are needed to be classified as a person opens up questions for critics saying that it is not wrong for infanticide because an infant is not more of a person than a fetus according to her arguments. Although her response about this is that infanticide is not just because it deprives the infants from people that care about them and can find happiness along their side. A person might want to raise these infants and the reason why they should be put into orphanages. In the end Warren s argument is contradicting that infanticide is morally wrong because it deprives form having
  • 3. How Greek And Roman Culture Changed Over Time Essay Greek and Roman archeology changed over time in regards to how individuals were recognized. The political state of the regions within both cultures altered the representation of individuals. Greek ideals about representing people and members of society The Greek idea of the personal and the political evolved from an ideal glorying the city, less than the individual to highlighting the strength of the individuals. Athens is the best source of evidence in terms of archaeological and literary to identify how the societies were shaped. Athens was a place of democracy so during this time, the main ideal was that the city had more importance then the self, so most of the architecture demonstrated unity. This was also seen in the art, as in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both the Greeks and Romans admired Alexander the Great. The Greeks had busts and portraits of Alexander. The Romans also very much so revered Alexander and his military success and had many literature symbols of him. As Greek art changed over time due to the political progression, there was a similar highlight of ruler s power that was evident in Roman art. This is similar to in class, how we saw that often the leaders were represented in art to be related to gods and god like to give their presence even more power. I find it quite interesting of how the Greeks in the early time prided on the civic presence more then the individual, which actually highlights their selfness nature. This change in art form is important for architecture as it shows the influence politics on the value of the self in society and the civic duty associated during that specific culture. This ties into today s society and shows political influence on art and culture. In North Korea, Kim Jong Un, values art that highlights himself and his families omnipotence, as he is the leader of the country. However, in America, the street art, or even abstract art is more towards a culture and showcasing individualistic talent. Politics in the past or present, influences culture in many ways but most importantly it changes the way people view themselves in
  • 4. Waylon Jennings Research Paper Waylon Arnold Jennings was born on June 15, 1937 and died on February 13, 2002. Waylon Jennings, who claims to have both Cherokee and Comanche ancestry, was born and raised in Littlefield, Texas. His father worked a succession of jobs from cotton farming to truck driving, and the Jennings family had little extra cash. Waylon himself began to pick cotton while still a youngster, but his heart was in music. As a child he immersed himself in the works of such country greats as Ernest Tubb and Hank Williams, then he discovered pop music and its nascent rock roll beat. A performer from an early age, he saw singing as the only escape from a life of drudgery in the cotton fields.Jennings began playing guitar at eight and began performing at 14 on KVOW radio. Jennings was a familiar sight in talent shows in his region, playing guitar and singing country or pop tunes. He dropped out of high school for a full time job with the Littlefield radio station, where he spun discs and performed with his own band, the Texas Longhorns. • 5. Job And Moving Up The Corporate Or Executive Ladder There is a reality in the key to be successful in your job and moving up the corporate or executive ladder. We need to learn how to manage our managers. This doesn t mean to tell them what to do or to control their responsibilities. The art of knowing how to manage your manager goes further than this. But it s not only about getting to know your manager or their organizational need. But it s also about projecting and building trust. It s about managing up. When I saw this subject for this paper I thought to myself; I know a few things about this, I spend many countless hours managing up. I do whatever I can to make my manager s job easy. Managing up is another term to turn into an indispensable asset to your manager. I will be using my experience in the subject. According to Thomas Zuber and Erika James, managing up is the process of consciously working with your boss to obtain the best possible results for you, your boss, and your organization. This is not political maneuvering or kissing up. Rather, it is a deliberate effort to bring understanding and cooperation to a relationship between individuals who often have different perspectives. (McMullen) Managing the manager have many great benefits. It s not about sucking up to the boss but rather about understanding and helping your boss be more successful without coming across as an opportunist. One of the things to always remember is that this has to be a win win situation, everyone must win. The Manager organization,
  • 6. Patriotism In The Movie Glory The film Glory (1989) is an astonishing production of true patriotism. The storyline follows the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the first all black military unit from the North during the Civil War. Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, a white Bostonian coming from a prominent abolitionist family, led the regiment in fighting for the Union. At the beginning, Shaw did not share the same passion that his parents possessed for freeing the slaves. Robert spent his life as a young adult traveling Europe before attending Harvard from 1856 to 1859. It was after he dropped out of school that he was recruited for the military. At the beginning of the movie, he is wounded in the neck in the southern battle near Sharpsburg, Maryland, commonly known as the Battle of Antietam. Found to be an exceptional Union soldier as a Captain for two years, he is promoted to the rank of Colonel, and placed in command of the 54th Massachusetts.... Colonel Shaw urged his men forward, demonstrating his passionate, honorable leadership. I felt sad, yet amazed by the amount of courage that these men had. Shaw was killed during this charge, and with him, most of the regiment. The movie does not produce a happy ending like many others, but shows the true tragedy that can come about during a war. I believe the scene that affected me most was the burial. The confederates laid Robert s body with the multitude of black men who were killed, attempting to dishonor him. I found this to symbolize true equality, not humiliation. The color of one s skin does not flaunt the amount of courage or honor they possess. I would have been proud to be buried with those men. They fought with bravery, but most of all, they fought with heart. That is true patriotism in my

This idea is greatly supported by the segment on affirmative action in the video (36 40). As said in the movie, the idea is that scholarship money and grant money is a scarce resource when students decide to go to college (37 40). In this view, the individuals who are against affirmative actionare competing for that scarce resource (36 40). Susan was denied the chance to speak at the convention due to the fact that she was a woman, and women were not allowed to speak at such conventions. That moment made her later realize that women would never be able to be taken seriously in politics until they had the right to vote (Sochen). After coming to this realization, Susan B. Scientists now believe that the current laws of physics allow us to travel though time. They believe that we can now travel back to see our founding fathers sign the declaration of independence. We could travel to 2999 to witness the birth of the next new millennium. Such travel would require a machine capable of withstanding great pressures and incredible amounts of speed. To get the other half we have to convert our thinking from moving though time to moving though space time (Hewitt 213). When we move, we not only move through space, we move though time. This is the idea of space time. If a person were to stand still, they would be moving only though time. If they moved a little bit, they would be moving though space a little bit, but still mostly though time. If one were to travel at the speed of light, what changes would they experience in time? The answer is simple; they would be traveling through space, with no travel though time (Hewitt 214). They would be as ageless as light, for light travels though space only (not time) and is timeless. gt; The frame of reference of a photon, a particle of light, a trip across the universe would take no time at all (Hewitt 214). To understand how traveling though time would work, we must first understand how time and space can be stretched. Motion in space affects motion in time. Whenever we move through space, we to some degree alter our rate of motion in time. This is known as time dilation, a stretching of time that occurs ever so slightly for everyday speeds, but significantly for speeds approaching the speed of light. If we were to attempt to travel to the nearest star, Alpha Centauri, which is 4 light years away, even traveling at the speed of light would take 8 years round trip (Hewitt 228). The center of our galaxies is something like 30000 light years away and at the speed of light

The contrast between the inside and the outside of the Kowalski s apartment intensifies, or creates drama, as it makes a divide between the internal world of the apartment and the external world of the street, as well as portrays Blanche s struggle between living in reality and fantasy. Williams utilization of the flexible set allows the street to be seen at the same time as the inside of the apartment to suggest that the home is not impermeable to the outside world, or reality, and thus the problems from the outside world enter the Kowalski s apartment, intensifying the drama. The most notable example of the use of interior and exterior sets is in scene 10. In scene 10, Stanley rapes Blanche. The founding fathers were wealthy statesmen who worked for the best of their interests to preserve their wealth. Howard Zinn states that the founding fathers based the Constitution off of their own personal experiences without considering the past experiences of the average citizen. That does not mean that they were completely selfish and based the whole Constitution around them, it just means that many of their economic interests were reflected in the Constitution itself. He goes on about how economic interests were seen in the clauses of the Constitution and the founding fathers had a direct economic interest in forming a strong central government. According to Zinn, the founding fathers thought factions came from inequalities in wealth. Further into the reading he said that the Constitution was meerly the work of certain groups trying to maintain their privilages while giving enough rights and reason to the people to get a majority to support them. I think that Zinn s arguments were backed up very well with information or logistic examples.
