The Bean Trees By Barbra Kingsolver
Everyone has someone they consider family. Sometimes people bond solely with their blood relatives,
but more often than not we choose who we consider to be our family as we grow older. This happens
most often when people find a spouse, but many also adopt children as their sons and daughters, peers
as their brothers and sisters, and role model figures as aunts and uncles. The Bean Trees is written by
Barbra Kingsolver and is set in the early 1980 s. It tells the story of a young woman named Taylor,
and the life she builds in Tucson Arizona. Far from home, she meets many great people and finds a
place where she belongs. Kingsolver shapes her message of the importance of families both blood and
found through her use of character archetypes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the story Taylor grows very close to Estevan and Esperanza. Taylor now considers them
family and proves that by risking losing Turtle and persecution. Through Taylor s heroic action the
author is showing that your family is worth serious danger. Signatory to the United Nations something
something on human rights, Mattie was saying, and that we have a legal obligation to take in people
whose lives are in danger. (page 139 The Bean Trees, Kingsolver) In this quote Mattie is saying that
everyone has the obligation to take in and help people who are in danger. She believes that people who
need help should be helped, that the whole world is one big, interconnected family. Mattie is a mentor
figure who helps and guides people. A part of that is hiding refugees fleeing persecution and treating
them like family. Through Mattie s actions the author shows that everyone can be family and that they
are all human beings who should be treated as such. The characters build the family that is so
important to this story. Through their actions of helping other they further the message of the
importance of family both blood and found.
Kingsolver also uses archetypal symbols to develop her message with Jesus is Lord Used Tires
symbolizing a haven and a garden symbolizing growth and support. Jesus is Lord Used Tires is
represented as a haven because it used to hide illegal immigrants, is the first safe space Taylor finds in

The Deplorable Treatment of African Americans in Medical...
Medical research in the United States has a disgraceful history of exploitative studies in which African
Americans were targets of abuse in the name of medical and scientific progress. African Americans
have been used as the testing ground for drugs, treatments, and procedures since the time of slavery.
The tolerance of the human frame and the endurance of the soul have been pushed to the limit in many
of these experiments. From the physical demands on plantation work and the torturous treatment of
slavery to the mental anguish inflicted on a slave s soul by their masters, blacks have received
deplorable treatment sanctioned by a white society. The end of slavery and the ushering in of the
twenty first century did not end the torturous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally human medical research studies often targeted those who came to public teaching
institutions desperately seeking free medical treatment and who generally looked up to doctors and
experimenters as experts in the field who were there to help them. While this motivation may seem
logical, it is often faulty as many human medical research studies throughout history demonstrate that
the motivation of medical researches is often not the care of those currently suffering from a particular
condition but the future returns on the cures or medical treatments that may be discovered during the
study (McKie). As with many such unethical studies, the participants often do not give consent and are
not informed of known dangers to the procedure, medications or lack of treatment. The use of
individuals who are poor, uneducated, and lack medical insurance in combination with prestigious
university research institutions and the white coated, well educated researchers motivated by
discoveries of cures on the scientific frontier results in abuses of individuals. The ethicacy of human
medical research must be brought into question when the studies such as the Tuskegee syphilis and
Mississippi appendectomies are examined, the results reviewed, and consequences justified. The word
study is very appropriate as the men who participated in the Tuskegee study were not given a
treatment or cure

Courtroom 302
A very significant case in Cook County Courts was the Bridgeport case, known as a heater case
because of the publicity that surround it, and the racial overtones (Bogira 181). The Bridgeport case
involved three white teenagers, Michael Kwidzinski, Jasas, and Caruso that were accused of brutally
beating two young black boys who were riding their bikes in the predominantly white neighborhood.
The entire summary of the case, in Courtroom 302, was based around the fact that one of the boys,
Michael Kwidzinski, was most likely innocent. The question then turns to the boy himself, Michael
Kwidzinski; if he was innocent, why did hid then accept a guilty plea bargain?
Kwidzinski was dealing with the case for a year and a half before even getting ... Show more content

Jenson, Caruso s lawyer, wanted to call two girls from the party to testify against Guadagno. Judge
Locallo said the state would then be allowed to call Deena, Caruso s ex girlfriend, to testify. Deena s
statement would then not only implicate Guadagno in the case but it would also place Caruso, Jenson
s client, at the scene of the crime (Bogira 329). If Guadagno would have been forced to testify he
would have been viewed as the third criminal and could have cleared Kwidzinski of any charges.
A significant reason the courts continued with prosecuting Kwidzinski was that reversing the charges
would make people question the legitimacy of the case all together. The state s attorney s office had
already charged three alleged attackers. If there was any doubt of Kwidzinski being involved in the
case there would be a problem with the lawyers of the other two attackers by trying to jump on the
bandwagon to freedom. Even though Kwidzinski may have been justifiably innocent and wrongly
accused, the attorneys for Jasas and Caruso would have claimed their clients were wrongly accused as
well.
Another major reason for keeping the prosecution for Kwidzinski going is when prosecuting attorney
O Reilly presented to the grand jury a request for an indictment on Caruso, Jasas amp; Kwidzinski, he
presented one

Cuneiform Script
Cuneiform Expression: The Language Before Letters The Cuneiform script, an early form of language
consisting of pictographic symbols, was first created by the Sumerians and later built on by other
cultures. Written on wet clay tablets, Cuneiform symbols were drawn with a long reed crafted into a
writing instrument, also known as a stylus. The stylus created wedge shapes, which is why the name
cuneiform was assigned to it. Cuneiform translates to wedge shaped . Some Languages included in the
Cuneiform classification were Sumerian, Akkadian, Elamite, Hittite, Luwian, Hurrian, Hattic, and
Urartian. Cuneiform was primarily used during the time period that lasted between the 30th century
BC to 1st century AD. The first symbol picture was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among the many varieties stemming from the Mesopotamian cuneiform came Hittite, which was
named after the Hattusa kingdom in the Old Testament. The Hittites, a people centered in north central
Anatolia, developed their own customized language evolving from the ancient cuneiform. This
language was used mostly for writing secular text. Hittite contained many words that were borrowed
from other languages, such as the Hurrian and the Hattic, and was composed of a primarily syllabic
nature. The Hittite language was used from 1600 BC to 1100 BC, and it is suspected that the language
was still spoken after the Hittite empire collapsed. Hittite was the earliest Indo European language,
although some argue otherwise about its classification. Although the cuneiform script includes other
cultures and languages, these ones are significantly important because they were widely used and they
all basically started a very new way for particular cultures. Communication is a very important part of
our history of knowledge and culture. Along with new communication comes new ideas, thoughts,
technology, ways of living, and culture. We can even see how our modern language today, much like
these languages, evolved from much simpler language into a process of communication we use on a
daily

Symbolism In The Black Cat
In the short tale The Black Cat, Edgar Allen Poe expresses his hate and love for cats. With twisting
words and mystical views, the tale takes place in the 1840 s. Within this classic American Literature
Gothic tale, symbolism is depicted throughout with many plot twists the story is told. While The Black
Cat was written to achieve an effect of shocking insanity in this time period it did just that. In this first
person narrative the narrator tells of the readers of his decline from sanity and madness, all because of
an obsession with two or maybe one black cat. This short story easily achieved the effect and use of
symbolism. In this tale the use of symbolizes are represented by the setting, the cat or cats, the house
and his wife, all of which are a great representation of Edgar Allen Poe s imaginary and life. In the tale
the setting was a sign of symbolism. Poe represented this in the plot development with a diverse word
choice, and detailed character development. In most cases, the setting is usually indelible to a story,
but The Black Cat relies little on this element. Poe used detailed character development so the reader
begins to empathize with the characters. With just enough character information given out at the time
of the horrific event the reader will feel connected. This tale could have occurred anywhere and can be
placed in any era. This makes the setting the weakest element of The Black Cat. Poe does not say a
certain location of where it takes place leaving the reader to wonder. The most obvious of symbolic
references in this story is the first and the second cat that arrives in the tale and the name chosen,
Pluto. Pluto leads his owner down the path toward insanity and loss of reason (Lombardi, Esther). As
Poe states in the following quote Pluto is his best friend, why would he have killed them? Pluto this
was the cat s name was my favorite pet and playmate. I alone fed him, and he attended me wherever I
went about the house. It was even with difficulty that I could prevent him from following me through
the streets (Edgar Allen Poe). Could the man in the tale have been a drunken fool, or suffered for a
psychotic illness. If you love an animal that much a normal human surly wouldn t

Why Is Jfk Assassination Important

First Language Acquisition In Children
Introduction:
First language acquisition is the first words that the child speaks or says and it s the process by which
the child learn, speaks and write, and it is the initial stages of language development in humans
infants, children begin learning their language since they re babies with uncorrected grammar until
many years they will be able to learn the language with a perfect grammar after going to school and
have some support with their family, on the psychology side, Many of psychologist have a different
point of view in the first language acquisition and every psychologist have a different theory about the
language acquisition. And some of the theorists says that the language is acquired while the other
theorists said that the language is learnt, so every psychologist have a theory about the language
acquisition, and in my essay I will be talking about the first language acquisition for the child, and if
the language is learnt or acquired and more of things I will be talking about.

Persuasive Speech On Stuffed Animals
Some people like to enjoy or going to the mall, or conserts or football games, but not me. As one of
my fellow introverts; I prefer to quietly sit in my room, with my stuffed animals and blankets and
binge watch various tv shows for hours on end. However that is not the case in most circumstances,
there is always a huge obstacle I always have to overcome to obtain this peace it usually starts with the
troll midget (my little sister), running in and loudly exclaiming how I spend too much time in my
room.
Although it does not end there, the troubles of this world always happen to find a way to creep into my
safe haven of stuffed animals, and television. Either the constant Donald trump memes or another

this okay. I pray that maybe someday I will be able to comprehend why you have set these challenges
in front of us and what lesson there is to be learned, and why my dad has had to suffer with this
depression for so long. Also the thought that in heaven dad wont have depression so then maybe ill be
able to experience what it may have been like to have a somewhat normal dad growing up. And God
thank you for everything, thank you for the people in my life, the bird in the trees and the fish in the
sea. Sometimes it just takes the smallest ladybug to make a person smile. So thank you for giving me
hope during the trials of life, because life stinks sometimes. Not that you made a bad world just we
humans messed it up. I wish life could be like the hundread acere woods where the worst thing to
happen is getting lost. God maybe one day ill be able to understand how life works, maybe ill be able
to understand why my dad has depression. I pray that if it is in your will that father will be able to get

Macbeth Imagery Blood
Blood Imagery in Macbeth
Shakespeare s plays are well known for the richness of their imagery. This is particularly true in
Macbeth and the many allusions to blood. The use of blood imagery gives the reader some foresight
into what is going on in the play and how the characters are thinking and feeling. Blood is used to
represent heroics on the battlefield, evil and murderous inclinations, and ultimately guilt and shame.
Shakespeare uses the symbol of blood to give the readers insight into his characters as they change
and are impacted by their choices and actions. This paper will demonstrate how Shakespeare uses the
image of blood as a symbol of bravery, guilt and evil citing directly from the text of Macbeth. Act one

Macbeth goes from being a heroic general in the king s army to an assassin and a tyrant. Through the
looking glass Macbeth seems as bloody as he could be, yet at the core he feels unruly guilt Like a
child, Macbeth attempts to run away from his problems, yet he has no where to go. He now realizes
what he has done is against his own morals, knee deep in guilt, and attempts to figure out his problems
with his wife. Blood symbolizes honor and bravery and also guilt and evil.
In the beginning of the play blood is represented of honor and bravery and symbolizes good and
victory The play starts out with the 3 witches talking about Macbeth. Macbeth is now a great hero
because he led the Scottish army to victory. For the recognition of Macbeth s leadership he becomes
Thane of Cawdor. The witches make many predictions to Macbeth and they all come true. Shakespear
stated For brave Macbeth well he deserves that name Disdaining fortune, with his brandished
steel,Which smoked with bloody execution (I,2,16 18). This showed that the Captain truly respects
Macbeth and that he is a heroic soldier. Towards the middle of the play blood represented guilt. At this
point of the play. A bell trings and Lady Macbeth signals that the chamberlains are asleep so Macbeth
strides toward Duncan s chamber. Macbeth was pressured into killing King Duncan by his wife,Lady
Macbeth, and does not feel good about it. Shakespear said Will all great Neptune s

Analysis Of The Book Ole Miss Baseball
#7 Ole Miss baseball takes on #6 Vanderbilt in the winners bracket of the SEC tournament.
Ole Miss upset #2 seed South Carolina on day two, and took the game over #10 seed Georgia on day
one in an elimination game. The Rebels are set to face #6 seed Vanderbilt now on day three, and look
to advance to day four undefeated. The Rebels will have a tough road ahead of them, as Vanderbilt is
playing good baseball and fighting to lock up a regional in Nashville. So here is how the Rebels can
do it.

The Gamecock squad hit a whopping .290, while this Commodore squad only hits .274. South
Carolina did only hit 38 home runs this season, while Vanderbilt hit 40. Again, Bryan Reynolds led the
team in home runs with 12.
Who do the Rebels have to stop?
Reynolds struggles to hit the inside and low fastballs, so I would expect to see the Rebel pitching
squad try and take advantage of that. His arm is above average at best as well, so the Rebels should be
aggressive when rounding the bases and the ball is in his hand.
Reynolds has a good eye at the plate and does not swing at bad pitches. He is one of the most
disciplined batters in the league. [pullquote]He is very good at hitting the ball in the gap as well, but

Ipo vs Fpo
1. INTRODUCTION
Initial Public Offering (IPO), also sometimes simply referred to as a Public Issue is the first sale of
stock by a private company to the public. Public issues are done by both small as well as large
companies seeking capital to expand business. It is also sometimes done by large privately owned
companies looking to become publicly traded.
When an already listed company makes either a fresh issue of securities to the public or an offer for
sale to the public, through an offer document, it is called Further Public Offering or FPO .
According to industry experts , IPO gives very high abnormal returns with a shorter period of time .

Even long established private companies can access the IPO route to raise capital, and become
publicly traded companies as a result. An IPO is considered as a rite of passage into the big league of
publicly traded stocks. Any company that needs to be listed on a stock exchange has to offer its shares
to the public.
In addition to IPO, an already listed and publicly traded company may issue an FPO a Follow on
Public Offer to raise further capital for the company. At any given time, there are a number of IPO and
FPO issues floating around in the market, therefore, it is essential to understand the difference
between the two.
Shares issued in an IPO are bought in the primary market, while shares brought from another investor
are exchanged in the secondary market. The distinct between primary and secondary market is
notional, there is no physical separation between the two. An important distinction between shares
purchased during an IPO and shares purchased from the secondary market is that while in case of an
IPO, the money goes directly into the company coffers; in case of secondary market, the money is
transferred from one investor to another.
The basic difference

Master Harold is very similar to his father. Although Harold probably doesn t want to become like his

arguments, only then does his fathers instincts kick in. Although Harolds father is never in the play, we
can learn a lot about him just by Harold and a single phone call. Harold inherited his fathers need for

Now between Harold and his father, his father dominates him easily. Because of this Harold may want

father is in control, Harold wants to feel somehow in control too.
Harold is prejudice against black people. Though he may not know it, or might not want to admit it,
Harold is racist. This is also another way Harold argues with Willie and Sam. He argues that because
Sam is black he doesn?t know as much as Harold or can?t learn anything to complex. He also argues
that he is far too civilized and well mannered to be hanging out with black people who are nothing
more than servants. Then again this just might be another excuse for Harold to win an argument. For
instance, Harold deliberately told Sam what he thought was a funny racist joke just to hurt Sams
feelings. Now this is a joke that Harold shared with his father, and this is how they spend their time
together, making prejudice jokes about black people. Harold became racist because of his father. Their
racist jokes are the only thing that brings them together. They make jokes about people who are less
then them so they can feel more dominate in society. It?s the only thing Harold knows of to make his

Shooting Stars Carol Ann Duffy Essay
In Carol Ann Duffy s Shooting Stars , Duffy looks back on the brutality and horror facing the Jews at
the time of persecution by the Nazis and Hitler. The poem of remembrance makes a lasting impression
on the reader as she reflects on the callous nature of man and of the world s need to remember and
understand the reality we live in. The poem begins with a voice from beyond the grave who seems to
be haunting the reader and explaining what she saw and how she was treated in camps: After I no
longer speak they break our fingers To salvage my wedding ring. The use of the word our shows that
this is a collective experience that happened to an immense amount of people and the poem already
brings uneasiness in the reader as it is a sensitive topic. To salvage something is to save something
valuable and in the poem it implies that the Nazis valued gold more than human life. This leaves an
impression as the reader comes to a realisation on the callous nature of man. People believed they
were worthless and here the Jews are considered as being inferior to a ring. Man has such little respect

Analysis Of 320 By Emily Dickinson 320
Emily Dickinson wrote 320 in a form in a form that is not traditional. It is written in a closed sense
given it is written quatrains that frequently rhyme, but it does not fall into a traditional pattern.
Dickinson generally follows the pattern of writing the first and third lines of each stanza in iambic
tetrameter and the second and fourth lines in iambic trimeter. Other times, she uses Trochees in
random times making the form sound choppy. For example, in the first stanza she uses the trochee
certain and winter . Both of these create a rough sentence. The poem goes into pause at many times
throughout the poem, thus bringing out the dissatisfaction and difficult time the poem is describing.
There is no way to tell who is speaking in this poem. Dickinson generally wrote as if the narrator was
somebody parallel or close to herself; however, in 320 there are no signs of if it is Dickinson or one of
her other popular characters. The narrator seems to be speaking as if they are part of a group, as the
only pronouns mentioned are us and we . This us could be up for interpretation; it could be a small
group experiencing death or even the entire human population as a whole and their view of God.
Dickinson uses strong imagery in the first stanza. The reader imagines the booming sounds of large
cathedral organs and the way the bass of them shakes your soul. She adds a negative connotation to
these shakes by stating it oppresses the narrator. Following, Dickinson uses the metaphor of a slant of
light on a winter afternoon to the opening her internal pain. As the slant of light opens, it is essentially
opening up a seal of despair. Nothing external has affected the body; however, the heartbreak from the
pain the narrator is dealing with leaves behind marks on her soul. She follows this theme through the
entire poem that the slant of light has brought pain upon her. Dickinson starts with a relatively positive
tone. When stating There s a certain Slant of light / Winter Afternoons the reader has the visual of a
small light shining through on a white surface. This tone quickly changes when it is followed by That
oppresses, like the Heft / Of Cathedral Tunes giving off the interpretation of a light that hits

Rapid Modernisation Of Armed Forces
There are a variety of reasons for the rapid modernisation of armed forces in the Southeast Asia region
interstate and regional tensions exist within Southeast Asia and interactive military programmes have
developed as a result, and there has been a rapid build up of military capabilities. Additionally, there
has been advances in technology, creating a need for states to modernise their armed forces to be able
to compete and military advancement in the region has contributed to the security dilemma in
Southeast Asia, leading to further arms build up. Most importantly, there is evidence of the beginnings
of an arms race in Southeast Asia, which also explains the modernisation of armed forces. Thus, the
reasons for the rapid modernisation of armed forces in the Southeast Asia region are the consequences
of interstate and regional tensions, technological advancement, the growing security dilemma and the
beginning of an arms race.
Interstate and Regional Tensions
Throughout Southeast Asia, there are a number of relationships between state actors that are marked
by mutual distrust, and these bilateral relationships fuel the arms race within Asia due to security
concerns. These distrustful relationships between nations have their root causes in historical
animosities, racial and religious divisions or competition for influence and resources (Richardson
1990: 24). Problematic relations in the region include, and are not limited to: North and South Korea,

Black Mirror By Michel Foucault s View On Modern Society
he 15 Million Merits episode of Black Mirror elucidates the view on discipline of cited humanities
scholar Michel Foucault in its futuristic take on modern day society. Foucault claims that through the
means of surveillance and observation, a natural order will take over sophisticated societies without
much policing power. By establishing common behaviors in different settings, a high level of
discipline can be achieved without effort. In many different commonly used places like schools,
factories, hospitals and prisons, a similar examination takes place among workers, patients and
prisoners, creating a similar and normal accepted behavior. In Black Mirror, the society runs smoothly
without the presence of a central figure of authority, and this directly relates to the Foucauldian view
on society. The use of advanced technology all around them creates the feeling of being watched, so
with that panoptic illusion in the forefront, the behavior of the citizens follows all rules and codes of
conduct. The structure and everyday feel of the environment is seen in the opening scene where Bing
is first introduced. The room he wakes up in is quite small and box like. It has a bed and a bathroom,
and electronic screens take the places of all the walls surrounding him. The bed sheets and his entire

The Negative Effects Of Parental Abandonment Of Children
Parental abandonment of a child can have long term psychological issues they will suffer from
including obsessive thinking, critical thoughts about the abandonment, and self blame. Child
abandonment is when a parent, guardian, or any person taking care of the child or deserts the child
without any regard to the child s physical health, safety, or welfare. From the ages from an infant to 18
years old, that s when child abandonment takes place. It is the rule of nature for every child to be
brought up by two parents. The effect of child abandonment can be felt throughout the child growth as
the child displays different characteristics from those who have had the privilege of being brought up
by two parents. Parents are the source of joy to most children and a source of pride too. Parental
abandonment has been proven to have adverse negative effects on the life of a child as this research
paper will highlight.
One of the effects parental abandonment is the child living with the fear of being abandoned. Such a
child will avoid relationships in the fear that they may not always work as they always feel in denial.
This factor affects their life and as a result will lead to other effects as the child will always be
stressed. The stress leads to depression overall. The effects of depression are poor performance; this
factor of poor performance is displayed in their academic life where in most cases the child will be
continuously recording poor grades even when the best learning

Difference Between Speaking And Wring
The difference between speaking and wring in English is the way it is perceived. It is varied from
context and is reliant on context. When language is spoken, it is a form of behaviour made up of
different dialects and morality. The context of which English is spoken or written has a dramatic
influence, language is changed by different situations that a person is exposed to, Formal and
informal, social events, professional events or cultural influences. Each context is made up of different
surroundings and people in which are part of the communication. Different language can be used
within the same context and be different from person to person. For example in a classroom the
language used between and a teacher and student would be different to that of a peer to peer
interaction. When speaking, people are usually face to face, therefore they can rely on such extra
linguistic clues as facial expression and gesture to aid meaning. Written English is more reliant on the
development of careful organisation and compact expression, with often intricate sentence structure
(Crystal, 2005).
Speaking English
Within Gee Hayes (2011) the authors suggest that language can be understood as a cognitive process,
something that is in our head, our brain and minds that tell us how to speak. Another view is that it is a
physical aspect that is present in the form of speech, recordings and writings. It can also be viewed as
a means of social convention shared by a group of people, about

Managing The Merger And Acquisition Process
John (1999) said that one of the biggest problems faced by those managing the merger and acquisition
process. The world of business has transform from an industrial to an intellectual basis, and while
those managing M A s are still busy studying all the old parameters, they are missed out all the new

In the industrial stage the primary assets responsible for creating wealth in the organization were
tangible (Li, 2011). In the new intellectual stage intangible assets are a new primary driver of wealth.
Unfortunately, most of the Merger Acquisition managers ignores the function of intangible assets.

In publicly held companies, poison pills refers to use various ways to prevent the takeover bids.
Takeover bids is bidder trying to obtain control of the target company, either by soliciting proxies to
get elected to the board or by acquiring a controlling block of shares and using correlation of the vote

Common types of poison pills

shareholders, usually preferred shares. These new stock often have severe redemption provisions

Unknown Solution Of Metal Nitrate Salts Lab Report
RESULTS DISCUSSION The unknown solution of metal nitrate salts was identified to contain silver
(Ag+) and Calcium (Ca2). These cations were discovered through a qualitative procedure that
systematically separated the unknown ions from the solution by introducing known reagents and
observing the resulting reaction that presented characteristic chemical properties unique to each
cation. These observations guided the flow of the procedure, with the expected results of each step
accumulating to justify and confirm the proper identities of the cations. To begin the qualitative
scheme, 6 M HCl was added into the test tube containing the unknown solution. This step was
essential because HCl (aq) was expected to separate the two unknown ions on the principle of
solubility, the ability of an amount of a substance to dissolve in a specific amount of solvent.1 In this
experiment, since the solvent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on Impact of the Industrial Revolution on History
Evolution is life, as life is constantly changing. During Histories most important periods the world
changes drastically. According to historians, two of these periods have taken place, and one of them
was the Industrial Revolution (Miller, 492). Like its name suggests the Industrial Revolution had to do
with the evolving Industry. It was a period during the 18th and 19th centuries marked by social and
technological change in which manufacturing began to rely (INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION, Timeline

changes in the way goods were produced took place ultimately transforming and modernizing the

They are Romanticism, or the Romantic Movement and Realism, including regionalism and
naturalists (Miller, 534 38). The Romantic Movement, also known as romanticism, took place in the
early 1800 s. Rather than write about the lives of ordinary people, romantics dealt with the romance of
life. They appealed to sentiment and imagination rather than reality (Miller, 534). The essence of
Romanticism is a belief in the power and validity of human emotions as a means of knowing and a
guide to life. Instead of following the previous periods belief in a ruling class as the center of power,
romantics believed that power existed among all people. This was due to every humans capability to
learn through emotional experiences, regardless of stature (Roberts, 1032). Romantic writers not only
glorified these beliefs but the past as well, so it made sense that the Romantic Movement was partly a
reaction to the Enlightenment Movement of the 1700 s. The people of the Enlightenment emphasized
reason and progresses the way romantics lived off of emotion and instinct (Miller, 534). In addition to
reacting to the past, Romanticism undoubtedly reflected many ideas of the, then, present (Roberts,
1032). The American and French Revolutions, with their emphases on the common man and
representative government, influenced the Romantic Movement (Roberts, 1032). Just as France had

Comparing Men Of Stone And Billy Elliot
The novel Men of Stone and the movie Billy Elliot have several similarities between each other. Both
Billy and Ben have dysfunctional families. Both have a single parent household due to one of the
spouses dying. The two protagonists get closer to their parents by the end of the story. The stories both
take place over a long period of time. Conflicts and issues that Ben and Billy have are all resolved by
the end of the story. They both received criticism because of their passion for dance, however they
weren t criticized by the same people. Older women both make appearances in Men of Stone and Billy
Elliot. The older women are also related to the family. Ben and Billy both have older siblings and they
are the youngest out of all of them. Billy and Ben were both involved in dance at a point in their
stories. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also both of them are crushing on girls. However these two stories are very different from each other
in certain aspects. Even though both families are dysfunctional, they are considered dysfunctional
because of different reasons. Ben s family is considered to be dysfunctional because of his dad s death
and the family s refusal to talk about it which created poor communication between the entire family.
Billy s family is dysfunctional because of the mining strike which causes the father and older brother
to lose their jobs. This then creates a tension with most of the family members. Although both families
display poor communication, they display it differently. Ben s family refuses to talk about his dad s
death and when someone brings it up, someone usually leaves the room and the conversation ends.
Billy s family communicates really angrily towards each other. The verbal fights that the Elliot s have

The Cantigas De Santa Maria Essay
The Cantigas de Santa Maria is one of the largest collections of monophonic songs from the Middle
Ages and is branded by the mention of the Virgin Mary in all 427 songs. The Cantigas are written in
Galician Portuguese, a poetic language in Castile at the time. The musical forms within the Cantigas,
are still being studied. There is a plethora of variations, but no musical forms have been considered
standard. In my analysis, I noticed a relationship between the refrain and the end of the stanzas which
tend to repeat the same melodic material. The refrain begins the poem and is repeated after each
stanza; in addition, the final portion of the stanza is displayed on the refrain, beckoning its imminent
return. Each Cantiga has very in depth syllabic patterns that work in attendem with the repeated
refreain After reviewing the translations of my Cantigas it seems the verse of the repeated refrain ties
in the moral of the poem and offers praise to Holy Mary. An example is the refrain in Cantiga 36, a
ship at sea. We should all love with all our will the lady who frees us from troubles and storms.
The refrain in my opinion eludes to the idea of storm being a metaphor for the trouble you face in
everyday life, and you must praise in the storm so that the Virgin Mary can eviscerate the darkness in
your life. Another stand out feature of the Cantigas are the illuminations that accompany them in the
codices. These beautiful illustrations map out the story of the Cantiga, and

The Secret Behind Food That People Eat
The number of consumers has now risen to 200, 000, 000, subjected everyday to a bombardment of
poisons in their food and drugs while lying at the mercy of respectable corporations (Fuller). While
the chefs and sou chefs cooked their customers orders, they thought nothing of it. They served it to
their customer and while that customer ate, one had an allergic reaction. The customer whose name

Even though the earth holds millions of people on it, this is a large number of catastrophes. People
should not have to die because of something like this. This number is increasing every year and
scientists and the FDA should do something about it. If not, the numbers of consumers will also rise.
The number of consumers annually differs from those being diagnosed with allergic reactions. As they
continue to rise, the numbers of people admitted to the emergency rooms are also increasing. The FDA
s attitude seems to be: Let consumers figure out for themselves how much of which ingredients can
make them sick. It s bad enough that people have to worry about allergic reactions to peanuts, milk,
and other conventional foods. In fact, it makes no sense for health authorities to purposefully allow
new unsafe ingredients into the food supply.
Types of safe food additives that have been used and known to not cause any health problems are
artificial sweeteners. These sweeteners are put in place of real sugar that can cause cavities. With this
in mind, the manufacturers using this just think that they could put these in their gums and sugar free
and no complaints will surface from anyone. This can be true to some people because this is a safe
additive, but don t think that because it doesn t cause many allergic reactions it is totally safe. In fact,

The Teachings Of Amenemope Essay
The book of Proverbs and The Teachings of Amenemope have many parallels and similarities. To
some this may come as a shock, but it should not be alarming. These books are considered wisdom
literature. Wisdom is defined as knowledge put into practice; simply retaining knowledge is useless if
it is not put to good use. Wisdom itself is not exclusive to the Christian faith; rather it is available to
anyone who is willing to learn. There are different types of wisdom such as biblical wisdom and
worldly wisdom, but wisdom cannot be limited to a certain belief or view. Worldly wisdom is not
entirely bad, instead, it can be helpful to understand to better interact with the world; to put it simply,
worldly wisdom is an understanding of how the world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

make an honest living, without lying or cheating. Again the concepts mirror each other, but the
motivation varies. The Teachings of Amenemope teach integrity because it creates a better life,
especially when others are striving for it as well, but the Bible preaches integrity because it is right

Don Delillo s White Noise
Why is naming things so hard for humans to do? Why does it matter? What difference does a name
make? These are all questions raised in Don DeLillo s White Noise. This novel teaches how to deal
with these uncertainties in many different ways. This postmodern take on the human race and their
reality of the world discusses why the naming of things has such a high impact. DeLillo suggests this
matters because it all comes back to simulacrum, perspective, and questions the reality of these things
due to all the different perspectives. The truth is reality does not change, reality stays the same; it is
simply perspective. Ultimately White Noise allows readers to ponder on the problem of naming and
evaluate solutions to the world of uncertainty. DeLillo uses this postmodern setting to argue that the
problem is not the name of something, it is how the name effects people s perspective and reminds
them that despite the name there is no access to the absolute truth. These given titles and names
engender a certain aura and disposition for themselves that cause either excitement or disappointment.

The the majority opinion agrees that if the students First Amendment does not interrupt the teachings

kindergarten, grammar school , or high school pupils no more carries into a school with him a
complete right to freedom of speech and expression that an anti Catholic or anti Semite carries with
him a complete freedom of speech and religion into a Catholic church or Jewish synagogue . This
argument doesn t work because both a place of religion and school have different purposes. An anti
Catholic would interpret the teachings of a Catholic church. While all that Tinker did was wear a black
armband that caused no disturbance in the teachings of the school. The ruling for Bethel v. Fraser is
correct because Frasers use of sexual innuendo was to a crowd who was unaware. The court ruled,

Convergent Evolution Of Human Evolution
A surprisingly recent instance of human evolution has been detected among the peoples of East Africa.
It is the ability to digest milk in adulthood, conferred by genetic changes that occurred as recently as
3,000 years ago, a team of geneticists has found. The finding is a striking example of a cultural
practice the raising of dairy cattle feeding back into the human genome. It also seems to be one of the
first instances of convergent human evolution to be documented at the genetic level. Convergent
evolution refers to two or more populations acquiring the same trait independently.
Throughout most of human history, the ability to digest lactose, the principal sugar of milk, has been
switched off after weaning because the lactase enzyme that breaks the sugar apart is no longer needed.
But when cattle were first domesticated 9,000 years ago and people later started to consume their milk
as well as their meat, natural selection would have favored anyone with a mutation that kept the
lactase gene switched on.
Such a mutation is known to have arisen among an early cattle raising people, the Funnel Beaker
culture, which flourished 5,000 to 6,000 years ago in north central Europe. People with a persistently
active lactase gene have no problem digesting milk and are said to be lactose tolerant.
Almost all Dutch people and 99 percent of Swedes are lactose tolerant, but the mutation becomes
progressively less common in Europeans who live at increasing distances from the ancient

The Persuasiveness of the Captivity Narrative
As the most influential black American author of his time, in The Interesting Narrative of the Life of
Olaudah Equiano, or Gustavas Vassa, the African, Written by Himself, Olaudah Equiano illuminated
for the masses many of the inhumanities and atrocities associated with the slave trade that previously
had been known only to those more intimately involved with it and began an entire new genre known
as the slave narrative. Part of the success of Equiano s narrative must be ascribed to the familiar
themes of capture, captivity, and restoration that he experienced and many had read in one of the many
captivity narratives that were so popular in early Colonial times. One such captivity narrative that has

Before Equiano s narrative, slaves were a faceless mass with no individuality or humanity to speak of.
His slave narrative put an individual, educated, Christian face to the ongoing brutality.
Although both Rowlandson and Equiano s narratives were the first and most influential narratives at
the time they were written, the differences between the two are much more significant than their
similarities. The most noticeable difference between the two narratives is the portrayal of the captors.
While Rowlandson demonized her captors and dwelled on every slight that she received, and even
though Equiano received much worse from some of the white men that he encountered, he often wrote
of his admiration for them, their education, and the friendship that was bestowed upon him. Equiano
even wrote of one boy who was particularly nice to him, I regarded [him] ... as ... my friend, whom I
loved, and grieved for, as a brother (691). The differences in this portrayal can be directly ascribed to
the different purposes with which the narratives were written. Rowlandson demonized the Indians
partly because she was writing to the Colonialists in an attempt to strengthen the Colonialists hatred of
the Native Americans. In this case it would not have been logical to write of their virtues. Equiano,
however, was trying to get his captors to sympathize with his cause. While it was

Pros and Cons of Single Sign On, and Kerberos and Its...
Pros and Cons of Single Sign On In single sign on, the user registers and authenticates with one site
and uses those credentials for identity with other sites (Pros and Cons to Single Sign In, 2009). For the
user, it lowers the barriers to participation of registering with sites without trusting them first and
reduces the number of credentials with having to remember all the usernames and passwords, making
it convenient. The downside for the user is if that one password is lost or forgotten, the user would
have to start over rebuilding and online identity, which can be time consuming (Chng, 2008). Single
sign on is also highly susceptible to phishing attacks. Enterprises that use single sign on may receive
more traffic to their websites by using third party vendors, but there are things that need to be
considered. The site does not see the user credentials with single sign on. They have to trust the third

revenue streams of selling mailing lists to spam companies. The dependence on a third party vendor is

Theme Of Manipulation In Wuthering Heights
In Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, Heathcliff s strong love for Catherine guides his
transformation as a character. While Heathcliff enters the story as an innocent child, the abuse he
receives at a young age and his heartbreak at Catherine s choice to marry Edgar Linton bring about a
change within him. Heathcliff s adulthood is consequently marked by jealousy and greed due to his
separation from Catherine, along with manipulation and a deep desire to seek revenge on Edgar.
Although Heathcliff uses deceit and manipulation to his advantage throughout the novel, he is never
entirely content in his current situation. As Heathcliff attempts to revenge Edgar Linton, he does not
gain true fulfillment. Throughout Wuthering Heights, Brontë uses Heathcliff s vengeful actions to
convey the message that manipulative and revenge seeking behaviors will not bring a person
satisfaction. To begin, Heathcliff uses Isabella as a means of exacting revenge on Edgar Linton, whom
he despises. When Heathcliff finds out Isabella is in love with him, he is delighted. His pleasure
comes not from a mutual like for Isabella, but rather a vision for revenging Edgar. After Catherine lets
slip that Isabella is in love with him, Heathcliff says to her, ...and if you fancy I ll suffer unrevenged, I

Essay On Resumes

Deadlines are extremely important when turning in a resume to an employer and I did not believe it

While rational choice is the way to find the very best solution, it s impossible for me as a human to do
follow such an approach, but through my process I still believe I picked good candidates for the
positions. When looking at someone s resumes, it is easy to fall into emotional traps that can lead
towards the wrong choice. For example, it is extremely easy to judge a resume based on the first
impression it gives, such as a bad layout, or a hard to read formatting. The primary effect bias does not
give the resume a fair change because it is toss aside before you look closer at any of the true details it
provides. You can also falsely judge a resume if some of the details match your own life or

candidate volunteers for the same organization, has the same major, or is from the same home town.

The Bean Trees is written by Barbra Kingsolver and is set in the early 1980 s. It tells the story of a young woman named Taylor, and the life she builds in Tucson Arizona. Far from home, she meets many great people and finds a place where she belongs. Kingsolver shapes her message of the importance of families both blood and found through her use of character archetypes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A part of that is hiding refugees fleeing persecution and treating them like family. Through Mattie s actions the author shows that everyone can be family and that they are all human beings who should be treated as such. The characters build the family that is so important to this story. Through their actions of helping other they further the message of the importance of family both blood and found. Kingsolver also uses archetypal symbols to develop her message with Jesus is Lord Used Tires symbolizing a haven and a garden symbolizing growth and support. Medical research in the United States has a disgraceful history of exploitative studies in which African Americans were targets of abuse in the name of medical and scientific progress. African Americans have been used as the testing ground for drugs, treatments, and procedures since the time of slavery. The tolerance of the human frame and the endurance of the soul have been pushed to the limit in many of these experiments. From the physical demands on plantation work and the torturous treatment of slavery to the mental anguish inflicted on a slave s soul by their masters, blacks have received deplorable treatment sanctioned by a white society. Additionally human medical research studies often targeted those who came to public teaching institutions desperately seeking free medical treatment and who generally looked up to doctors and experimenters as experts in the field who were there to help them. While this motivation may seem logical, it is often faulty as many human medical research studies throughout history demonstrate that the motivation of medical researches is often not the care of those currently suffering from a particular condition but the future returns on the cures or medical treatments that may be discovered during the study (McKie). As with many such unethical studies, the participants often do not give consent and are not informed of known dangers to the procedure, medications or lack of treatment. The use of individuals who are poor, uneducated, and lack medical insurance in combination with prestigious university research institutions and the white coated, well educated researchers motivated by discoveries of cures on the scientific frontier results in abuses of individuals. The ethicacy of human medical research must be brought into question when the studies such as the Tuskegee syphilis and Mississippi appendectomies are examined, the results reviewed, and consequences justified. The word study is very appropriate as the men who participated in the Tuskegee study were not given a treatment or cure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Courtroom 302 A very significant case in Cook County Courts was the Bridgeport case, known as a heater case because of the publicity that surround it, and the racial overtones (Bogira 181). The Bridgeport case involved three white teenagers, Michael Kwidzinski, Jasas, and Caruso that were accused of brutally beating two young black boys who were riding their bikes in the predominantly white neighborhood. The entire summary of the case, in Courtroom 302, was based around the fact that one of the boys, Michael Kwidzinski, was most likely innocent. Jenson, Caruso s lawyer, wanted to call two girls from the party to testify against Guadagno. Judge Locallo said the state would then be allowed to call Deena, Caruso s ex girlfriend, to testify. Deena s statement would then not only implicate Guadagno in the case but it would also place Caruso, Jenson s client, at the scene of the crime (Bogira 329). If Guadagno would have been forced to testify he would have been viewed as the third criminal and could have cleared Kwidzinski of any charges. A significant reason the courts continued with prosecuting Kwidzinski was that reversing the charges would make people question the legitimacy of the case all together. The state s attorney s office had already charged three alleged attackers. If there was any doubt of Kwidzinski being involved in the case there would be a problem with the lawyers of the other two attackers by trying to jump on the bandwagon to freedom. Even though Kwidzinski may have been justifiably innocent and wrongly accused, the attorneys for Jasas and Caruso would have claimed their clients were wrongly accused as well. Another major reason for keeping the prosecution for Kwidzinski going is when prosecuting attorney O Reilly presented to the grand jury a request for an indictment on Caruso, Jasas amp; Kwidzinski, he presented one ... Cuneiform Script Cuneiform Expression: The Language Before Letters The Cuneiform script, an early form of language consisting of pictographic symbols, was first created by the Sumerians and later built on by other cultures. Written on wet clay tablets, Cuneiform symbols were drawn with a long reed crafted into a writing instrument, also known as a stylus. The stylus created wedge shapes, which is why the name cuneiform was assigned to it. Cuneiform translates to wedge shaped . Some Languages included in the Cuneiform classification were Sumerian, Akkadian, Elamite, Hittite, Luwian, Hurrian, Hattic, and Urartian. Among the many varieties stemming from the Mesopotamian cuneiform came Hittite, which was named after the Hattusa kingdom in the Old Testament. The Hittites, a people centered in north central Anatolia, developed their own customized language evolving from the ancient cuneiform. This language was used mostly for writing secular text. Hittite contained many words that were borrowed from other languages, such as the Hurrian and the Hattic, and was composed of a primarily syllabic nature. The Hittite language was used from 1600 BC to 1100 BC, and it is suspected that the language was still spoken after the Hittite empire collapsed. Hittite was the earliest Indo European language, although some argue otherwise about its classification. Although the cuneiform script includes other cultures and languages, these ones are significantly important because they were widely used and they all basically started a very new way for particular cultures. • 6. Symbolism In The Black Cat In the short tale The Black Cat, Edgar Allen Poe expresses his hate and love for cats. With twisting words and mystical views, the tale takes place in the 1840 s. Within this classic American Literature Gothic tale, symbolism is depicted throughout with many plot twists the story is told. While The Black Cat was written to achieve an effect of shocking insanity in this time period it did just that. In this first person narrative the narrator tells of the readers of his decline from sanity and madness, all because of an obsession with two or maybe one black cat. This short story easily achieved the effect and use of symbolism. In this tale the use of symbolizes are represented by the setting, the cat or cats, the house and his wife, all of which are a great representation of Edgar Allen Poe s imaginary and life. In the tale the setting was a sign of symbolism. Poe represented this in the plot development with a diverse word choice, and detailed character development. In most cases, the setting is usually indelible to a story, but The Black Cat relies little on this element. Poe used detailed character development so the reader begins to empathize with the characters. With just enough character information given out at the time of the horrific event the reader will feel connected. This tale could have occurred anywhere and can be placed in any era. This makes the setting the weakest element of The Black Cat. Poe does not say a certain location of where it takes place leaving the reader to wonder. The most obvious of symbolic references in this story is the first and the second cat that arrives in the tale and the name chosen, Pluto. Pluto leads his owner down the path toward insanity and loss of reason (Lombardi, Esther). As Poe states in the following quote Pluto is his best friend, why would he have killed them? Pluto this was the cat s name was my favorite pet and playmate. I alone fed him, and he attended me wherever I went about the house. It was even with difficulty that I could prevent him from following me through the streets (Edgar Allen Poe). Could the man in the tale have been a drunken fool, or suffered for a psychotic illness. • 16. Analysis Of 320 By Emily Dickinson 320 Emily Dickinson wrote 320 in a form in a form that is not traditional. It is written in a closed sense given it is written quatrains that frequently rhyme, but it does not fall into a traditional pattern. Dickinson generally follows the pattern of writing the first and third lines of each stanza in iambic tetrameter and the second and fourth lines in iambic trimeter. Other times, she uses Trochees in random times making the form sound choppy. For example, in the first stanza she uses the trochee certain and winter . Both of these create a rough sentence. The poem goes into pause at many times throughout the poem, thus bringing out the dissatisfaction and difficult time the poem is describing. There is no way to tell who is speaking in this poem. Dickinson generally wrote as if the narrator was somebody parallel or close to herself; however, in 320 there are no signs of if it is Dickinson or one of her other popular characters. The narrator seems to be speaking as if they are part of a group, as the only pronouns mentioned are us and we . This us could be up for interpretation; it could be a small group experiencing death or even the entire human population as a whole and their view of God. Dickinson uses strong imagery in the first stanza. The reader imagines the booming sounds of large cathedral organs and the way the bass of them shakes your soul. She adds a negative connotation to these shakes by stating it oppresses the narrator. Following, Dickinson uses the metaphor of a slant of light on a winter afternoon to the opening her internal pain. As the slant of light opens, it is essentially opening up a seal of despair. Nothing external has affected the body; however, the heartbreak from the pain the narrator is dealing with leaves behind marks on her soul. She follows this theme through the entire poem that the slant of light has brought pain upon her. Dickinson starts with a relatively positive tone. When stating There s a certain Slant of light / Winter Afternoons the reader has the visual of a small light shining through on a white surface. This tone quickly changes when it is followed by That oppresses, like the Heft / Of Cathedral Tunes giving off the interpretation of a light that hits ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By establishing common behaviors in different settings, a high level of discipline can be achieved without effort. These cations were discovered through a qualitative procedure that systematically separated the unknown ions from the solution by introducing known reagents and observing the resulting reaction that presented characteristic chemical properties unique to each cation. These observations guided the flow of the procedure, with the expected results of each step accumulating to justify and confirm the proper identities of the cations. To begin the qualitative scheme, 6 M HCl was added into the test tube containing the unknown solution. According to historians, two of these periods have taken place, and one of them was the Industrial Revolution (Miller, 492). It was a period during the 18th and 19th centuries marked by social and technological change in which manufacturing began to rely (INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION, Timeline Index). Rather than write about the lives of ordinary people, romantics dealt with the romance of life. They appealed to sentiment and imagination rather than reality (Miller, 534). The essence of Romanticism is a belief in the power and validity of human emotions as a means of knowing and a guide to life. Instead of following the previous periods belief in a ruling class as the center of power, romantics believed that power existed among all people. This was due to every humans capability to learn through emotional experiences, regardless of stature (Roberts, 1032). Romantic writers not only glorified these beliefs but the past as well, so it made sense that the Romantic Movement was partly a reaction to the Enlightenment Movement of the 1700 s. The people of the Enlightenment emphasized reason and progresses the way romantics lived off of emotion and instinct (Miller, 534). In addition to reacting to the past, Romanticism undoubtedly reflected many ideas of the, then, present (Roberts, 1032). The American and French Revolutions, with their emphases on the common man and representative government, influenced the Romantic Movement (Roberts, 1032). The Cantigas De Santa Maria Essay The Cantigas de Santa Maria is one of the largest collections of monophonic songs from the Middle Ages and is branded by the mention of the Virgin Mary in all 427 songs. The Cantigas are written in Galician Portuguese, a poetic language in Castile at the time. The musical forms within the Cantigas, are still being studied. There is a plethora of variations, but no musical forms have been considered standard. In my analysis, I noticed a relationship between the refrain and the end of the stanzas which tend to repeat the same melodic material. The refrain begins the poem and is repeated after each stanza; in addition, the final portion of the stanza is displayed on the refrain, beckoning its imminent return. Each Cantiga has very in depth syllabic patterns that work in attendem with the repeated refreain After reviewing the translations of my Cantigas it seems the verse of the repeated refrain ties in the moral of the poem and offers praise to Holy Mary. An example is the refrain in Cantiga 36, a ship at sea. We should all love with all our will the lady who frees us from troubles and storms. The refrain in my opinion eludes to the idea of storm being a metaphor for the trouble you face in everyday life, and you must praise in the storm so that the Virgin Mary can eviscerate the darkness in your life. Another stand out feature of the Cantigas are the illuminations that accompany them in the codices. These beautiful illustrations map out the story of the Cantiga, and ... Wisdom itself is not exclusive to the Christian faith; rather it is available to anyone who is willing to learn. There are different types of wisdom such as biblical wisdom and worldly wisdom, but wisdom cannot be limited to a certain belief or view. • 28. Don Delillo s White Noise Why is naming things so hard for humans to do? Why does it matter? What difference does a name make? These are all questions raised in Don DeLillo s White Noise. This novel teaches how to deal with these uncertainties in many different ways. This postmodern take on the human race and their reality of the world discusses why the naming of things has such a high impact. DeLillo suggests this matters because it all comes back to simulacrum, perspective, and questions the reality of these things due to all the different perspectives. The truth is reality does not change, reality stays the same; it is simply perspective. Ultimately White Noise allows readers to ponder on the problem of naming and evaluate solutions to the world of uncertainty. DeLillo uses this postmodern setting to argue that the problem is not the name of something, it is how the name effects people s perspective and reminds them that despite the name there is no access to the absolute truth. It is the ability to digest milk in adulthood, conferred by genetic changes that occurred as recently as 3,000 years ago, a team of geneticists has found. The finding is a striking example of a cultural practice the raising of dairy cattle feeding back into the human genome. It also seems to be one of the first instances of convergent human evolution to be documented at the genetic level. Convergent evolution refers to two or more populations acquiring the same trait independently. Throughout most of human history, the ability to digest lactose, the principal sugar of milk, has been switched off after weaning because the lactase enzyme that breaks the sugar apart is no longer needed. But when cattle were first domesticated 9,000 years ago and people later started to consume their milk as well as their meat, natural selection would have favored anyone with a mutation that kept the lactase gene switched on. Such a mutation is known to have arisen among an early cattle raising people, the Funnel Beaker culture, which flourished 5,000 to 6,000 years ago in north central Europe. People with a persistently active lactase gene have no problem digesting milk and are said to be lactose tolerant. For the user, it lowers the barriers to participation of registering with sites without trusting them first and reduces the number of credentials with having to remember all the usernames and passwords, making it convenient.
