The Sick Rose By William Blake Meaning
The Multiple Meanings of The Sick Rose and The Eagle
After studying the two poems, The Sick Rose and The Eagle in class and the discussion among the group, it seems to me that the poems haven't got
only one single meaning. I also noticed that poems could always be interpreted in different ways with different meanings based on your point of view
and your personal knowledge and experience. Poems are also open to interpretations.
The Sick Rose is a very decent example of which the poems can be interpreted in different ways. The word "rose" first came into sight in the title,
which indicates this word play a chief part in the interpretation of the poem. "Rose" can be a person, as this is a very widespread name for girls in ...

William
Blake was a poet, writer and also a painter. Just like most of the other writers, he had his own style when creating a piece. He particularly specified in
religion, and his ideas of religion, or in other words, the operation of the church contradicted with most of the people at his time, especially the ones
with power and money. William
Blake was neither rich nor powerful, and he didn't risk his life to express his discontent. He conveyed his feelings in the poem, let alone be aware of
his minds and thoughts.
Granted that this concept is right, then 'rose' signifies the church, which was being tarnished by the 'priests', which was indicated by ' invisible
worm' in the poem. They lived a luxurious life using the donations and they wore expensive red priests robes, which was represented by the phrase
'crimson joy'. There is an idiom 'Do not judge a book by its cover', and that is exactly what the poet was trying to tell us – most of the things do not
look as they appear to be. If the poet hadn't experienced the injustice and unfairness of the church, he might not have written this poem. Actually we will
never experience the treatment of the church at the time when the poem was written, but knowing the poet's background is a good way to have
accurate interpretations. Hence, self–experience is a very important factor leading to varied

Investigating L2 Learners ' Reanalysis Processes After...
1. Introduction
This proposal aims to investigate L2 learners' reanalysis processes after garden paths (GP). Recent L1 studies have suggested the lingering first
interpretation even after attempts at reanalysis. For example, when the parser reads the sentence, 'While Anna dressed the baby spit up on the bed', it
often persists in the interpretation 'Anna dressed the baby' despite the globally–correct interpretation being 'Anna dressed herself' (Christianson et al.,
2001). This phenomenon is attributed not to the incapability of revising the initially assigned interpretation but to the failure in erasing the residual
memory of the interpretation (Slattery et al., 2013). Contrary to L1 reanalysis processes, L2 reanalysis processes remain largely unexplored (e.g.
Jacob & Felser, 2016). Thus, this proposal will address L2 learners' reanalysis processes.
2. Experiment 1 and 2
Experiment 1 and 2 are designed to examine the parser's final interpretation of the object–subject ambiguity. For this purpose, 48 sentences, exemplified
in (1a) and (1b), have been created
(1a). After the mother dressed her son had some lunch at the small table. (GP)
(1b). After the mother dressed, her son had some lunch at the small table. (Non–GP)
The sentence (1a) contains GP and thus requires reanalysis at 'had', whereas (1b) does not due to a comma placed after 'dressed'. If the parser ends up
in the interpretation 'the mother dressed herself'

Summary Of Gothic Children's Literature And The...
When encountering the title of this scholarly journal, "Psychoanalysis, "Gothic" Children's Literature, and the Canonization of Coraline", I was excited
to delve into the gothic terrain of the subconscious. However, ChloГ© Germaine Buckley's paper does not give us a straightforward analytical reading,
but instead challenges the dominant modes of interpretation when dealing with children's literature. Buckley engages with Neil Gaiman's Coraline,
challenging some of the critical responses to the book, as well as drawing in some foundational literary criticism authors and thinkers such as Sigmund
Freud, Roland Barthes and Lewis Carroll. Buckley's intention with this paper is to oppose restrictive interpretations of Coraline, as she posits the book
to be far more complex than most examples of children's literature. Freud's "Uncanny", gothicism, and psychoanalysis have been posited as the best
tools for approaching children's literature by the critics Buckley intends to circumvent. She believes these methods are a tangled mess that confuse
origin with originality, that mistake the interpretation of Coraline's influences as interpretations of the book itself. Buckley notices that Gaiman has
drawn satirically from Freud, offering a crash course for children on psychoanalysis and the uncanny. With this in mind, Buckley wants to make room
for more postmodern interpretations that engage intertextuality and satirical elements, in order to fully appreciate the scope of Gaiman's book.

Interpretation Of Interpretation
In this week, our focus mostly drew on the interpretation of our sources, finding evidence to interoperate, and make up our strong thesis. According to
Writing Analytically, the first thing we should pay our attention is that we are supposed to concentrate on what the thing itself communicates as
opposed to what someone might have wanted it to communicate, which means that it is not bad thing to interoperate author's intension, however, we
should mainly focus on the subject itself. Also, we should avoid both the Fortune Cookie school of interpretation and the " Anything goes" school of
interpretation while unfold coherence on our source. The Fortune Cookie is that produces an interpretation containing a single, write answer. In contrast,

Secondly, explain how the details you have focused on in the evidence lead your working thesis. Thirdly, locate evidence that is not adequately
accounted for by the working thesis and pursue the implications of that evidence by repeatedly asking "so what?" Explain how and why these pieces
of evidence complicate the working thesis. Fourthly, use your analysis of the complicating evidence to reformulate the thesis. Sharing with reader
your reasons for moving from your initial claim to this reformulation. Fifthly, test the adequacy of the evolved this by repeating steps two, three, and
four until you are satisfied that the thesis statement accounts for your evidence as fully and accurately as possible. The best test of a thesis is to see
how much of the relevant evidence it can reasonably account for. Finally, rewrite the draft into a more coherent and fuller analysis of evidence, while
retaining for readers the "thesis trail"–the various steps that you went through along the way to formulating the thesis you ultimately choose. I would
definitely say that these 6 steps helped me a lot to track with my thesis statement.
In this week, we kept our focus on how to make our thesis statement complex and compelling, and also we paid lots of attention on secondary source
integration.
At this time, we were require to keep on track of our papers. Which means we drew a clear conclusion on what we can change and what we should

Forensic Linguistics: Case Study Analysis: Holmes V. State
HG4022 Forensic Linguistics – Case Study Analysis
In the case Holmes v. State (1986), Steven Holmes is a deaf–mute seventeen year old who was found guilty of second degree murder for stabbing and
killing Francisco Walker, a teacher of Edison Middle School. Holmes admitted to the offense and was sentenced to four years of incarceration and two
years of community control. During pre–trial competency proceedings, Holmes was found competent to stand trial. However, Holmes was unable to
"answer questions crucial to his defense" (Holmes v. State, 1986:233). Holmes' attorney requested for a re–evaluation of Holmes' competency but was
denied. Holmes appealed and the appellate court held that the trial court abused its discretion by denying the request. ... Show more content on

He pushed him away. And then, he pushed him away and stabbed him and ran.
Additionally, third–person references may influence the court's judgements because such techniques bring in the interpreter's own voice (Angermeyer,
2009:5). Many guidelines provided by legal institutions have stated that the interpreter must always use the first or second person (Berk–Seligson,
2002:60), and to the best of their abilities, replicate the content produced by the person they are interpreting for (Angermeyer, 2009:5). However, the
interpreter failed to remain detached, which suggests that his competency to represent the defendant is questionable.
Lastly, the interpreter displayed tendencies to narrate and summarize the defendant's testimony, which is unacceptable. According to the National
Association of Judiciary Interpreters & Translators (2005), summarizing implies some form of omission of what is being said, which goes against the
rules of judiciary interpreting. Furthermore, in order to achieve legal equivalence, the interpreter must not edit, summarize, add, or delete the source
content (GonzГЎlez, VГЎsquez, & Mikkelson, 1991:16). An interpreter's duty is to ensure that the interpretation is accurate and complete. However,

A Case Study of One Student's Approach to Reading The Divine Image
Hypothesis
When Marielle, an English 2 student, was given a series of critical thinking tasks, her first response to the poem, "The Divine Image," by William
Blake changed as she followed the direction of each task and built on her previous understanding of the poem. I describe her responses to the eight
learning paper tasks and her dissection of the poem for hidden meanings.
The Tasks and Various Interpretations
For each learning paper, Marielle was given eight different ways to interpret
"The Divine Image," by William Blake. Learning paper 1 asked her to read the poem out loud, write down any ideas that came to mind, then write a
summary of what the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For learning paper 2, she had to reread the poem, then detect and define key words that made a strong impact on her. What Marielle did was define
some of the words she felt were strong –– Mercy, Pity, Love and Peace. She then reread the poem and was asked to reinterpret it. After she identified
key words, she felt that "this poem is trying to reinforce the importance of being kind to others and treating them as God would. Mercy, Pity Peace and
Love are being reinforced as necessary human qualities." She looked up the literal meanings of the key words, wrote them down, and added comments
next to the definitions. After defining and commenting on these key words, her opinion differed.
I am able now to see the correlation between the title the "Divine Image" and the song itself. The divine image is expressed in its human form
through the actions and feelings of Mercy, Pity, Peace and Love. The Divine Image is referring to God, humans can be Godlike by performing these
four feelings and actions.
She now felt that humans were considered Divine only if they use Mercy, Pity, Peace and Love. In the beginning, though, she felt that one had to treat
others with the same respect like God and that the characteristics were simply important for humans. Even though her opinion changed, she didn't use
the dictionary's literal meanings to write a translation of the poem, rather she constructed her version of the poem with the words of the

Analysis Of 'The Moon Is A Lighthouse : Revisited'
"The Moon is a Lighthouse: Revisited" is a short story that relies heavily on symbolism and imagery and intentionally makes elements of itself
vague enough to be interpreted in a variety of ways. The primary story is quite simple on the surface is quite simple. A mother tells her sons to
bring her a river. They move the bed towards the river face a window. It is raining, and the brothers decide that the rain is good for making mud. The
moon is not visible from the window however. Then, despite the boys asking her to do so, the mother can not see the river because she is on her back.
The mother then compares the river to the sky, the stars to the eyes of fish, and the moon to a light house.
The first time I read "The Moon is a Lighthouse: Revisited," I had no idea what was happening. I lingered on the portion in the beginning where the
mother said "Bring me your river" because I was utterly confused. At first, I thought it was a random interjection that had no relation to the
surrounding text, but I quickly realized that the piece of text was just dialogue without quotes around it. My first reading was centered around trying
to understand what the piece literally means. My first reading gave me the sense that I was watching a Stanley Kubrick film like 2001: A Space
Odyssey, rather than reading a short story because of how experimental it was. Literature is an old art form, so I thought that there were only so many
things a person can do to push boundaries, but I was clearly

Sigmund Freud 's The Interpretation Of Dreams Essay
Austrian neurologist and now considered the 'father of psychoanalysis', Sigmund Freud, is perhaps known for his theories involving the human brain.
During the late 1800s, his therapeutic techniques dealing with psychopathology made him quite influential within and throughout the sphere of
psychology and his work has had a tremendous impact on modern culture and common opinion. Freud's The Interpretation of Dreams, first published in
1899, takes into account dream interpretation and theories involving the human brain, why humans dream and what they could mean. By conducting
'free associations' and interpreting numerous case histories of patients' and their dreams, he established such theories such as dreams as
wish–fulfillments and regression. In his dream interpretation, Freud treated dreams as a distorted path to the unconscious and believed that the contents
of a dream were the fulfillment of a wish and its motive as a wish (Freud 143). In other words, Freud believed that the dreamer's unconscious mind was
reflected by the material within a dream and the role of these dreams was to satisfy the basic unconscious fantasies of a human. This assertion implies
that wishes those were unable to be fulfilled in the waking life disguise themselves as symbols and imagery and manifest in the conscious mind,
administered by the pleasure principle. In Freud's point of view, wishes are repressed desires, mainly sexual, and childhood memories that are fulfilled
via dreams, based on the

Nietzsche, Reinforced, And Challenged By Nietzsche
Yo, I hope you are ready to learn some really cool shizniz about how we understand other shizniz by interpreting that shizniz. Over this past term, I
have learned how individuals form an interpretation. Although learning about how to interpret an interpretation was an interesting experience, it also
was pretty confusing; therefore, I am going to discuss what I have learned in a way that I hope will be fun to read and easy to understand. In this, you
will read about concepts introduced by Nietzsche, reinforced by Gadamer, and challenged by Schott. In each of their articles highlighted key points of
how to best understand a concept called "the hermeneutical claim to universality", which can be defined as a notion of first having an interpretation of
what one wishes to understand. Basically, this means if we want to understand anything we are trying to find an interpretation. Nietzsche discusses how
all individuals make errors–– not grammatical errors like what is presented in this essay–– but errors in truth. Specifically, Nietzsche states that all
truths are errors. The concept of all truths being errors can be better understood by recognizing the reasonable assumption that individuals are different
and thus will believe different things. However, how can all beliefs be fully true if one 's beliefs contradict another individual 's beliefs? Nietzsche
explains that an "objective truth" does not exist for the reason that individuals have different believes of what is true. A

What Is The Theme Of The Bird And The Arras
The Bird and the Arras, is a poem written by Anne Finch, Countess of
Winchilsea (1661–1720), she has always been a recognised author, but the recognition of her works have been revived in the last years. Her poetry
reflects her thoughts and personal experiences, but also the social and political situation of the era (18 th century,
England). As in the case of the poem "The Bird and the Arras", the author describes the situation of the women of the time by the using of the symbol
of the bird. During the poem, the room where the bird is trapped, which has a high ceiling, has an arras, and the bird tries to follow the birds that
appear on the arras. As a consequence of trying to follow the birds that appear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"Till some kind hand directs the certain way" we can find a synecdoche, "kind hand" could be God's hand which will take her (the bird) to heaven,
with this detail we can fathom that women were trapped in society, as heaven seems to be the only way to freedom they can find. The use of
"Heav'n" has a special meaning that confirms what mentioned before; the poet has chosen the use of "Heav'n" instead of "sky" to reinforce the idea
that it is the only way to freedom. The room where the bird is could be interpreted as a marriage, where the woman is nullified or it can represent a real
room.
Secondly, from the analysis made above, we can get to several interpretations of the poem. On a literal way the poem is describing how a bird tries to
escape from a room because it is lock in it, which is a dramatic situation, as it is described in the poem.
The first interpretation, is that "she" will be free when "she" dies, as every time "she" tries to reach freedom fails "And leads to ample space, the only
Heav'n of Birds". The second is more pessimistic as it concludes that "she" will never be free, as every

The Crucible Of Life Has Provided Me With An...
Reading The Crucible of Life has provided me with an epistemological system to begin my journey into serious theological contemplation. I have
thoroughly enjoyed thinking about the interrelationship of reason, experience, and scripture. Foremost, the relationship of reason and experience has
proved highly. Understanding the ways in which reason and experience relate to each other is a tricky concept indeed and it is one that I look to in
order to discern the process of learning in general. It is this process that allows learning to occur.
Also, this process must begin at some point. This point, as suggested by Wesley, begins with the authoritative information of scripture for trans–sensory
understanding and it has been interesting for me ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I do not buy into this distinction and I do believe that an authoritative canon adequately deals with the interaction problem. Any further questions about
reality itself do not effect us and, therefore, are meaningless to us.
Additionally, the realization of an overly pragmatic theology found in chapter nineteen proved interesting; especially in consideration of Wesley's
Experiential Theology. We mustn't become overly skeptical in our beliefs if we wish to discover as many new ideas that we possibly can. In this case,
the best option would be the option that does not rule out an option unless logical necessity urges otherwise. We must remain consistent in our analysis
of the hermeneutical spiral if we wish to continue through it in an appropriate, reasonable way. This sort of idea holds true for any hermeneutical
process, but it is especially significant in the method that Wesley offers because of its reliance on correct understanding for scriptural, and then
experiential, interpretation. Improper interpretation can lead to drastically false beliefs if carried on for too long.
Correspondingly, we must apply the most accurate and consistent experience in order to receive the results that more accurately point towardstruth in
Wesley's system. So, if we wish to perform Wesley's method in the most probable fashion to produce truth known to humankind, we must provide the
hermeneutical process with the

The three traditional rules of statutory interpretation are:

2: the main disadvantage of the golden rule is that judges can technically and wisely change the law by exchanging the meaning of words in the statute

The golden rule would help if there is no absurdity in the statute. For example the London and northeastern railways V BERRIMAN 1946 CASE

Questions On The Nature Of Interpretation
Hypothetical Misinterpretation
Jerrold Levinson, a prominent hypothetical intentionalist, through his explanation of the relationship between artworks and exploratory interpretations,
has gone under criticism for allowing misinterpretations to be deemed as valid "could mean" options. However, one finds when reading "Two Notions of
Interpretation" and "Intention and Interpretation in Literature" that these criticisms are effectively countered by two arguments that Levinson presents.
Firstly, although the exploratory mode of inquiry can have multiple, if not infinite, could mean answers, it also has could not mean answers. These
could not mean interpretations provide insight into the work and allow for interpretations to be judged on a scale ... Show more content on

Because they are ludic and not grounded in physical realities one can come up with multiple "correct" interpretations that are sound but mutually
exclusive.
To construe what something could mean, Levinson proposes that we, as interpreters, be pragmatic and use logic in combination with our given
knowledge of the contexts of works to determine their interpretations. Although there exists an impulse to either exclusively use does mean or could
mean modes of inquiry, like an x–ray for the former and a metaphor for the latter, the two modes actually have mutual implications. To examine an
x–ray for what it means is to postulate what it could mean and then come to an apt conclusion. To examine a metaphor is to find what is a plausible
response in a determinative context of semantic possibilities. There also exist instances of purely could mean inquiries, says Levinson, like the infinite
volumes of Babel, but without a does mean interpretation available, as there are no intentions behind the works, the infinite possible could mean
interpretations create an absence of meaning. It is here I would like to extend the definition of does mean interpretation beyond scientific knowledge
based answers, to include hypothetical DM interpretations. Although we will see how authorial

Dream Interpretation Research Paper
Dream interpretation is an old tradition that dates back at least as far as Biblical times. Perhaps the most famous instance of dream interpretation is
where the Pharaoh tells David his dreams about seven skinny sheep eating seven fat sheep and seven skinny ears of corn eating seven fat ears of
corn. David interpreted this to mean seven years of bumper crops followed by seven years of poor crops. With proper planning, this allowed the
Pharaoh to protect his people from potential famine during the coming lean years.
Dreams can be a means to tap into subconscious thought processes and tell us what we know that we don't even consciously realize that we know. But
we are also more psychically sensitive when we sleep. So our dreams can contain extra sensory information that is unavailable to most people when
they are awake. Most premonitions of the future actually occur in dream form, not in waking visions.
The vast majority of the time, dreams ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you read your written notes out loud, you may find that the dreams are like pictures of common expressions. This may be something you do not
notice in the images or if you read the words silently to yourself. It may only become apparent when you speak it out loud and hear the homonyms
and common phrases, such as the expression of "something bugging me" to express something bothering you or being "stabbed in the back" to express
a feeling of betrayal and so forth.
Especially at first, or when you are going through a particularly stressful time when the stakes are high for you, it can help to run your dreams past
someone else, preferably someone knowledgeable about dream interpretation. They can help you sort out the most likely meaning. Sometimes, dream
meanings can be counterintuitive or people can read in either what they would like to hear or perhaps what they most fear instead of what is really

Biblical Interpretation Of The Bible Essay
Genesis 1–3 offered the very first outline of societal norms and therein introduced interpretations of norms related to family, gender, and sex. In our
now–progressive society, the constraints of indubitable religion are removed and the differing interpretations of gender, sex, and family within religion
are freely debated. Since the text of creation is divine and human logic cannot fully interpret or understand God's word, there are copious, varying
interpretations of the text. An essential starting point for interpreting the Bible is the understanding that misinterpretations are bound to happen. The
difference in time and context alone is causation, let alone the factors of translation and transcription. Susan T. Foh and Carol Meyers, both graduates
of Wellesley College, have very differing strategies regarding how to interpret divine texts. Meyers, a professor at Duke, directed attention towards the
context in which the text was written. Since our societies are constantly in flux, the context from when the text was written is often different from the
context in which predominant and accepted interpretations were fabricated. Foh's strategy of interpreting and understanding the text is to utilize latter
parts of the text, which were written with more recent contexts, in order to understand the text. Both of these methodologies set up the text to be
re–interpreted, however, Foh's methodology is more complete because it allows the text to speak for itself rather than bring in

The Significance Of Statutory Interpretation
Statutory interpretation can be required when there is complexity of uncertainty arises when judges interpret the law. There are several instances where
a judge may call for statues to be interpreted. For example, when there is failure in legislation on a particular point such as, change in the use of
language. When there is a form of ambiguity in the statue it can lead to a dispute. Mean a dispute can arise when a statue can have more than one
meaning which, could affect the outcome of a case dependent on which meaning they use to interpret the statue. However, statue in the 18th century,
used words which has different meanings. Which, was illustrated in the case of Cheeseman v DPP. The defendant was witnessed masturbating in public
toilet by the police officers. However, Under The Town Police Clauses Act 1847 , stated that they must be a passenger. On the other hand, The Public
Health Amendment Act 1902, stated that the word, 'street' could mean any public places under the control of local authority which were the police
officers. The Police Clauses Act stated the word, 'passenger' could have different meanings but, in this case they believed that it could mean a, 'foot
passenger' also, the police were not travelling at the time they saw the defendant and he could not be arrested under these circumstances. This shows
that there can be ambiguity interpreting statutes because, there was a form of lexical and structural ambiguity interpreting which resulted in a statutory

The Mood Of My Papa's Waltz By Theodore Roethke
Theodore Roethke's poem, "My Papa's Waltz", is subject to the interpretation of the reader. One may choose to see waltz as a recollection of a
beautiful moment in time. Another interpretation has a much darker tone as one could choose to see the violence within the movement of the waltz
and not the beauty for which it is known. Thus, one may interpret the poem as a fond memory of a father as told by his son, the author. However,
the poem could also be viewed as a revelation of a complicated relationship between a father and a son. With that said, the first set of lines "The
whiskey on your breath / Could make a small boy dizzy" (lines 1–2) reveal the fact that his father may have been an alcoholic or was at least drunk
during the waltz. The fact that the author chose to blend something as elegant as a waltz with something so violent as an intoxicated individual is
indicative of the author's clever use of words. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the line " You beat time on my head" (13) the "beat" has a musical denotation of the father tapping the rhythm of the waltz on the son's head. On
the other hand, an abusive connotation is present as well with a possibility of the father inflicting blows upon his son's head. Roethke proceeds to
continue his trend of ambiguity in the final lines of the poem which state "Then waltzed me off to bed / Still clinging to your shirt." In this the
reader can still find the positive and negative interpretations coexisting within the lines. In a positive sense the reader can view these lines as
showing the love that the speaker has for his father, but in a negative sense the reader can view these lines as showing the speaker literally clinging
on to the shirt while begging for the abuse to stop. Even though dark meanings were woven into the lines of each stanza it wasn't able to overcome the

The Rime of the Ancient Mariner Essay
It has been suggested that The Rime of the Ancient Mariner may be read as a religious text, presenting 'nothing less than the fall of man'.
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner has been interpreted in a variety of ways since it's creation in 1797. Some, such as Gavin McGann, argue that
ballad is a story of our salvation of Christ, whereas others dispute this, believing it to be a metaphor for Original Sin in the Garden of Eden. Whilst these
interpretations may differ, the view that The Rime may be read as a religious text does not. Religion lies at the heart of the poem, focusing on the trials
and tribulations of man, depicting a moving spiritual journey of sin, punishment, repentance and eventual redemption. ... Show more content on

With their remarks the crewmembers form the first foundation of their sin. Jesus states "Judge not lest ye be judged" (Matthew 7:1) so by judging the
Mariner, the crew submit themselves to the judgment of heaven, setting themselves up, much like the Mariner, for a punishment. The second sin of the
crewmembers comes when they condone the murder of the albatross, revealing, as the weather becomes warmer and the mist disappears, how they
believe it "twas right, said they, such birds to slay/that bring the fog and mist". In noticing that the murder of the albatross bears no immediate effects
on the weather, they condone the Mariner's actions, and consequently make themselves collaborators in the crime. Subsequently, changes immediately
occur as "Down dropped the breeze, the sails dropped down" and so the crew contradict themselves again, and start to rebuke the Mariner as they
begin to suffer from thirst due to their inability to sail and diminishing supplies. By

Proper Interpretation Of The Bible And Culture Perspective
The writer, Roger Nicole addresses the issues of proper interpretation of the scriptures in hermeneutic and culture perspective. He implies," that one
must avoid reading meaning into the text that are not inherent in the text." He go on future to say," We must allow the text to speak for itself without
imposing on it a predetermined interpretation." Study shows axiom (rule of interpretation) of biblical hermeneutics is that the interpreter must take into
count the literary genre of the passage being interpreted along with the question of text grammars, philology, background and history
(Nicole.p.356–57).The writer discusses the different between "prescriptive or descriptive texts. It is important in the hermeneutics process to
distinguish what in Scripture is prescriptive, embodying God's commandment to us, and what is descriptive, relating events or attitudes that may or
may not be desirable (Nicole.p.357). Even though we Know that" God is the primary author of Scripture." it is imperative that certain practices in
both New and Old Testament are merely describe, or serve as a culture background of the activity even of some who were God's children, without
implying that we shall conform to these practices (Nicole. P.357)
Here Nicole warns against lifting verses or passages out their context. Each passage must be understood in light of the passages written before and after
it, in light of the book in which it is found, and in light of larger Canonical Interpretations. The

Translation And Interpretation Of Language
Translation and interpretation are two different occupations that can be pursued by a language professional. Often, a person with knowledge of, and
proficiency in one or more foreign languages will work in both translating and interpreting, but these are different professions involving different sets of
abilities.
Translation
Translating is converting text from one language to another, and therefore focuses on language in its written form. A translator takes a document
written in the source language, reads and understands it, and then re–writes the document in the target language.
Interpretation
Interpretation involves verbal communications – listening to, and understanding what is said in one language and then verbally expressing it in another
language. Interpretation is broken down between:
Simultaneous interpretation, which involves converting what is being said in a meeting, presentation, seminar or other type of communication forum,
into the target language at the same time the speaker is talking, with a very short lag, practically anticipating what the speaker is going to say.
Consecutive interpretation, which is listening and comprehending what the speaker is saying, in short blocks of speech, and then converting what was
said into the target language.
Language Combinations
A translator most often translates from a secondary language to his or her native language. This is generally due to language nuances that are learned
from birth, and that are assimilated

attention and making sure they are hearing what is said. Jesus wants the listeners to focus on what is being said so that they will understand what He
is teaching them. For example, "He who has ears" is a saying that is worded differently so that the reader's attention is grasped. It has been said that a
parable is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning because of the hidden key words implemented in the text. Jesus frequently used parables as a
way to illustrate profound and divine truths. Readers can break down parables and vigorously study them to better understand Jesus' way of
teaching, but mainly in order to be able to connect to Him through them. The disciples noticed the change in Jesus' teaching and asked why he told a
parable. In response Jesus said "To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, but to them it has not been granted"
(Mathew 13:11). Its weird to think Jesus would leave people in question. Jesus would explain to the disciples that those who have, to him more shall
be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. This was a common teaching in
Judaism.

Analysis Of The Text ' The ' Of The Bible '
There are many things which are similar and differences in both texts about the whole story of creation, some of them are noteworthy and would be
explained as the essay proceeds. Philo, in his interpretation of the text was more lenient and warm in his attitude towards women. He does not cite
woman as to be the mother of all evil and suffering in heaven and earth, and he has a warmth towards woman while handling issues of
creation(Charlesworth. et al, 2010 ). While Midrash is a little cynical of the role of woman in heaven and earth. The first similarity between the two
interpretations can be observed by the question as to why does scripture call the likeliness of woman "a building"? it is explained in both texts that the
harmonious coming together of man and woman is figuratively a house, and everything which is without a woman is imperfect and homeless. Man is
entrusted the public state of affairs, while the woman holds the affairs of home. While a woman is near home, household management is proper and
diligent.
The second question to which we find the similar interpretation of both Philo and Midrash was why was woman, unlike other animals and man, was not
formed from earth and created by side of man. The first reason both interpretations present is that woman is not equal in honor with man. The second is
that woman is not equal in age to man, and she is younger to man in age. Both interpretations suggest that man should take care of woman as necessary

Interpretation Of The Golden Rule Approach
Question 1
(i)According to literal rule, Jane has given a flick knife to her supervisor so she would be guilty of offence. But her intention of giving a flick knife to
her supervisor was to punish a youth member. So literal rule is not applicable because it gives us an absurd result. So we will apply the golden rule
approach because according to that approach her purpose of act was sensible so she will not be found guilty of her act.
(ii)According to Fisher v Bell, displaying an old military knife with a spring opening device in his shop window with a price label is treated as an
invitation to treat by Tony, and not an offer. According to literal approach ofstatutory interpretation, it is the task of the court to give a statute's words
their literal meanings regardless of whether the result is sensible or not. So, Tony will not be found guilty by this rule.
(iii)Under the literal rule of statutory interpretation, Fola will be guilty an offence because she has given a flick knife to another person. There is an
ambiguity as she donates the box to a charity shop without checking the contents of the box. However if we apply the mischief or purposive rule it
will give us the clear intentions of her that her purpose of the act was to donate box of kitchen utensils so she will not be found guilty.

Analysis Of Chapter 99 Of Moby-Dick
Society is currently at this peculiar point in which we condemn the sordidness of others, yet we do not acknowledge or attempt to change our own
ignoble thoughts and intentions. The vast majority of people have committed an ignoble act or even had a dirty thought at one point in their lives. So
how do we justify our own sordidness, yet denounce others for theirs? To put it simply: We interpret it differently. We examine our own thoughts and
intentions in a completely different light than how we view others. People possess an entire set of context and past experiences that they can utilize in
order to justify their own shameful thoughts and behaviors which they lack when examining the sordidness of others. In this sense, the interpretation of
our own sordidness does not necessarily solve the issue. Rather, it allows us to justify it and live with the false belief that our own dishonorable
tendencies are more appropriate than those of others. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Chapter 99 of Moby–Dick, the crew of the Pequod examines the doubloon nailed to the mast and attempt to analyze its symbolism. Just as Ahab
and his crew tried to find meaning in the doubloon, so too do we find meaning in what we choose to discuss in writing. And, like the crew of the
Pequod, our interpretations can––and will––vary wildly. Every member of the Pequod interpreted the doubloon in vastly different ways depending on
their own personal values and experience. Ahab found a reflection of himself within the coin, while Starbuck viewed the coin in a religious context.
The same is true of writing. Multiple writers can examine the same concept or information and interpret it in extremely different ways in order to find
their own meaning. Even in this essay, sordidness could be considered a form of doubloon as myself and my classmates analyze the prompt and

Interpretation Of My Papa's Waltz By Theodore Roethke
A Perfect Balance While the subject of "My Papa's Waltz" by Theodore Roethke has spurred passionate academic debate from professors, scholars, and
students alike, the imagery, syntax, and diction of the poem clearly support the interpretation that Roethke writes this ambiguous poem with the intent
to create a controversial interpretation which can be viewed as both or either an abusive or fond memory between father and son. Both interpretations
can be supported by multiple pieces of evidence which creates a conflict for the reader to need clarification for which way to interpret the poem.
The controversy from "My Papa's Waltz sparked due to Roethke's mixed use of words retaining negative or positive connotations which can support
either argument. One word could lead to either abuse or a memory. For example, the first line of the fourth stanza contains "You beat time on my
head" which can be seen in a variety of ways. At first glance, it may seem as if the father physically hit the child with his hand; however, upon a deep
analysis, it becomes clear that one might interpret the word "beat" as though it's the rhythm of a dance. Roethke makes readers delve deep into the
context just to find both meanings. He cleverly uses diction to require the reader to reread his poem. Due to the numerous amounts of phrases
containing words chosen with positive and negative connotations, Roethke fabricates a perfect balance which causes the reader to find difficulty
understand the true meaning of "My Papa's Waltz.
Although Roethke's use of diction may fuel both arguments, It cannot reveal his intentions behind the poem alone. He uses imagery to his advantage
of this mind game by plugging in words throughout the poem which captivate the reader and force them to form a mental image; he does illustrates
in "My Papa's Waltz" by stating "The whiskey on your breath could make a small boy dizzy." This statement reveals how drunk the father is which
sets interpretation for the rest of the poem. Since drinking is one cause of abuse, numerous amounts of people may see the rest of the poem as the
father abusing his child. On the contrast, Others can view whiskey as an expensive drink only used to celebrate special occasions in the time

The View and Interpretation of the Term Genre
Discuss what we understand by the term 'genre' and how it relates to the way we view and interpret films
The way in which we, as an audience, view and interpret films can be seen to relate directly to our understanding of 'genre'. However, what is genre?
Drawing on the knowledge of key theorists and critics such as Steve Neale and Barry Langford this essay will first attempt to define genre and our
understanding of it before focusing on how genre relates to the audiences view and interpretation of films. It will also touch upon the historical contexts
of genre, and how genre helps the film industry create films and their interpretation of film. An interpretation that differs in a number of ways to that of
an audience's due to their goals being different thanks to the ways they view film. Before we can begin to delve into how genre relates to the way we
as an audience view and interpret films, we must first attempt to define and understand what the term genre means when relating it to the film industry,
in particular Hollywood.
Genre is a simple French word meaning 'type' and therefore when taking this simple, direct approach we can see genre as a type of film or films such
as a 'comedy', which has the association, in many cases, with humour. However, this approach generates large conflicting ideals within 'set genres'. It
provides the understanding that genre has fixed boundaries that cannot be pushed to allow for flexibility in a films direction. An example of this can

Analysis Of ' Frankenstein And Nabokov 's The Real Life Of...
Both Shelley's Frankenstein and Nabokov's The Real Life of Sebastian Knight investigate problems of reality, strongly suggesting that real knowledge
of someone cannot exist or is at best inaccessible. However, while Nabokov and Frankenstein suggest that one may never be able to know the "real
life" of another person, perhaps one's failed attempts to perfectly capture that reality–reflections or interpretations of reality, that is–function as the most
meaningful "reality" for the would–be knower. V.'s definition of "real" itself makes real knowledge an impossibility. While V. never explicitly defines
"real," readers can piece together an approximate understanding from the metaphors he uses to express his lack of access to the real Sebastian. Although
V. "could describe the way he [Sebastian Knight] walked, or laughed, or sneezed," these facts "would be no more than sundry bits of cinema–film cut
away by scissors and having nothing in common with the essential drama" (Larsen 16). Characters know much about Sebastian but "he himself escapes
[them]" (Larsen 28–9). It's this "essential drama" or "he himself" that V. identifies as real–the core essence of someone or something. And after a
conversation with Sebastian, V. longed "for no earthly reason (...) to say something real, something with wings and a heart," suggesting that something
real is otherworldly, incorporeal ("no earthly reason", "wings and a heart"), and thus beyond V.'s ability to know. Perhaps what Nabokov terms

Life Of Pi Reality Vs Reality Essay
The novel Life of Pi is all about discerning between fact and belief. But which is reality? Yann Martel, the author of the text, declares that "reality is
an interpretation, a choice of readings, a choice of stories." The definition of reality, therefore, is not events which actually occur, but what is real to an
individual. Every person has a different reality, shaped by their experiences, beliefs, interpretations, readings and stories. In other words, you choose
your reality.
In Life of Pi, Pi is always searching for the "better story". While Pi is describing agnostics, he proclaims that they "lack imagination and miss the
better story" (Martel 64) in life. He later inquires of the men interviewing him, "'Which is the better story, the story with animals or the story without
animals?'" (Martel 317) after recounting two versions of his 227 days at sea. The "better story" is the story which opens up the mind, the story which
provides you with a new way of observing the world. Being able to see the better story is an act of interpretation and creation. It is how we view the
world and generate meaning from it. In this case, the better story becomes your reality because it is what is real to you. ... Show more content on

creator of your reality... You create it with your thoughts, feelings and beliefs" (Brown 2010). Both of these quotes explain that we have control over
and choose our reality, confirming Martel's idea that reality is our own interpretation and choices of readings and stories. If we choose our reality, it is

Descartes ' Meditations On First Philosophy
In Rene Descartes' excerpt, Meditations on First Philosophy, he proclaims, "It is beyond question that I shall reach the truth if I think hard enough
about the things that I perfectly understand, keeping them separate from all the other matters in which my thoughts are more confused and obscure"
(В§104). When Descartes made this statement in his fourth meditation, what was he conjecturing by the term "perfect?" According to the standard
interpretation, perfect encompasses all required or desirable elements, qualities, or characteristics; as good as it is possible to be. Nevertheless, perfect
has different competing interpretations. Perfect could be expressed as complete, flawless, or accurate. Hence, illuminating different denotations of
Descartes' meaning of perfect could stimulate numerous interpretations of the passage.
The first interpretation of perfect could be expressed as complete, or having all the necessary or appropriate parts; lacking nothing; whole or
unabridged. For instance, Descartes states, "Thus I see plainly that the certainty and truth of all knowledge depends strictly on my awareness of the
true God. So much so that until I became aware of him I couldn't perfectly know anything" (В§121). Descartes expresses his dependency on and
eagerness for God's true knowledge. Further, he explains that until he is cognizant of the true God, he will never be "perfectly", or in another
interpretation, completely, knowledgeable about his beliefs. To accentuate the term

Project Blue Sky: Statutory Interpretation In Australia
'[t]he courts no longer approach a statute with scissors in one hand and a dictionary in the other'.
Critically assess the applicability of this statement as an analysis of the current approach of the judiciary to statutory interpretation in Australia.
Statutory interpretation is the legal process whereby a judge applies a statute to a case and must give meaning to the words in the statute in order to
decide what they mean and how it should be applied to a particular case. When interpreting statutes, the judges' role is to put into effect the Parliaments
wishes. Conflicts may arise when deciding if the intention of Parliament can be found in the words of the statute itself or whether judges should acquire

The Project Blue Sky case concerned the question of whether a program standard known as the Australian Content Standard made by the Australian
Broadcasting Commission was invalid. The invalidity alleged was that the Australian Broadcasting Commission gave preference to Australian
television programmes contrary to Australia's obligations under certain trade agreements.
The relevant Act contained an objects clause which specified the purpose of the Act, however, within the body of the Act there were two conflicting
provisions. There was no doubt the Australian Content Standard was authorised by the literal reading of the words of the relevant provision. However,
another provision which was inconsistent with that section made the literal meaning very doubtful.
The court observed that the 'legal meaning', i.e. meaning the legislature is taken to have intended, may not correspond to the literal or grammatical

Throughout this class, I have grown so much from where I was at the beginning of the year. I think that because the class was a collective effort
rather than an individual one, it was more motivation for me to participate properly because people other than myself were relying on me. Due to the
fact that we had written questions and homework for every reading as well as had to use a great deal of textual evidence throughout the discussions, I
was constantly looking to refer back to the text, and make sure that my argument fit in with the discussion. Therefore, I got the most out of outcome

most for was Saint Augustine's Confessions. Once I got through the initial confusion, through the discussion and especially the second essay helped me
develop his ideas of "rightly–ordered love". That, then became what I primarily based my exploration of the text off of. It was important to use Written
and Oral Communication for this reading to see how much of an impact all the situations had on Saint Augustine. Therefore, being engaged in the
reading, writing and asking the right questions, and using the discussion to further my understanding of the text was a strong lesson I learned from

Main Point #2: Facts about Dreams 1. Your body goes through 4 stages of sleep. REM (rapid eye movement) is the 4th stage and when you do most of
your dreaming. "While you are dreaming, your body undergoes noticeable changes. Your adrenaline rises, your blood pressure increases, and you heart
beats faster. Given this hyperactivity, it should be no surprise how someone with a weak heart can die in their sleep (dreammoods.com)." It usually
takes 30–90 minutes to reach REM, a person goes in and out of REM 4–7 times a night. During REM your eyes rapidly move back and forth under the
eyelids. Our bodies are completely immobile and muscles are relaxed. You may shift around in your sleep but when in REM you are completely still.
2. Dreammoods.com states that Researchers have found why dreaming is so important and if you do not enter the dream phase it causes irritability and
anxiety. They performed a study, where they would wake up a person right before they entered the REM stage, and then let the person fall back
asleep, and then wake them up again and do this several times during the night. They repeated this over several nights. They then observed the subjects
doing everyday activities and found they were disoriented, crabby, and quick tempered. Dreaming is necessary and helps to recharge the mind and
visualize the body. 3. According to the site BoredPanda.com, while someone is dreaming

Statutory Interpretation And The Law Of The Country
Question 1
Introduction
A statute is the formal and the written law of the country. It is passed by the legislative authority of the country. Generally, statutes, and, prohibit or
declare something and sometimes, they are also called as legislation. In this way, statutory interpretation means the interpretation of the statutes by the
courts. This interpretation takes place when an Act of the Parliament is not clear and as a result, it creates uncertainty in the law. Therefore, statutory
interpretation is required when an Act passed by the Parliament is not clear, for example a term could have been used to covers a number of
opportunities. Similarly the meaning of a term can also change its meaning over the period of time which results in ... Show more content on

In this case, the defendant was a shopkeeper and had placed a flick knife along with its price in the window of his shop although no flick knife was

to which any person who sells, hires or offers for sale any flick knife will be guilty of the offense. However in this case, the court was required to
decide if defendant had committed the offense of offering the knife for sale. Offer has been given a technical legal meaning by the law of contract. In
this regard, the contract law provides that is playing an article in shop window cannot be considered as an offered by it is only an invitation to treat

a question he was asked, but for many of the verses there is no specific reason for their revelations. In Q109 some grammatical peculiarities can be
observed and are questioned. One profound objection "is the objective pronoun used in the third verse of Q 109, 'what I worship'. Should not, the

Myth Of Truth Analysis
Truth has always been a very vague and grey area for many people, it's something that cannot be agreed on by every single person. Each person has
their own set of past experiences that have built upon their morals, values and ethics. This ties in with their overall idea of why they view truth and lies
in the way that do. Professor Hedrick is interesting in the way that she teaches literature through the historical point of view, proving background
information that enables students to build upon this background knowledge and find the interpretation for that piece of literature. Much like our
differing viewpoints on the concepts behind truth and lies can be connected to differing interpretations over a certain work of literature. But when truth

Susan Sontag's View on Interpretation and its Applications and Analysis Using Bedlam Painting Number Eight
Interpretation has been a phenomenon existing from the time immemorial. There has been a long tradition of interpretation, in all occupations.
Interpretation of arts and literature has gone to an extent that it has taken shape of a discipline and has grown as a methodology and an art itself. Eliot
even says, "We might remind ourselves that criticism is as inevitable as breathing". Method of Interpretation has long been a subject of discussion
among intellectual circles and it has been subject to a constant evolution ever since it came into being. Moreover, the conventional methods have
always been circling around the dynamics of relationship of the signifier and the signified, a discourse upon meaning of a work of art. Sontag has
proposed an objection towards the traditional methods of such kind. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Repetitive Recital : Metaphors, Imagery, And Anaphora
The Repetitive Recital: Metaphors, Imagery, and Anaphora in Billy Collins's "Litany"
There are few poets who have written such a subtly humorous work as Billy Collins has done in "Litany". This poem has achieved being humorous
due to the use of metaphors, imagery, and anaphora. The strange metaphors and imagery when referring to the female character make every persons
interpretation very unique because the metaphors are not as clear as others. The female character is being compared to strange household items, and
aspects of nature, such as animals. Within Billy Collins "Litany", metaphors, imagery, andanaphora are used to speak favorably about a female
character in a subtly comical way.
While metaphors are meant to be a comparison between two unlike things, Collins takes it to an entirely new level. The first few lines of the poem are
"You are the bread and the knife, the crystal goblet and the wine"(Line 1–2). Collins is saying here that a woman can be compared to bread and a
knife, and a crystal goblet and the wine. There is no ability to understand what the poet might mean when he says that a woman can be compared to
bread and a knife, it is open to the interpretation of each individual reader. An interpretation of the first line might be that the woman in the poem is
independent, playing multiple roles within her own or someone else's life. Maybe it is referring to a mother whom not only is the friend and support
system to her child, but also the one that

The Interpretation Of Statutory Interpretation
Driedger 's modern approach to statutory interpretation has substantially impacted the comprehension of ambiguous statutory language in Canadian
courts for several decades. Although there are some drawbacks and flaws in this method, there is a myriad of merits that have positively shaped the
interpretation of ambiguous statutory language over the years. When adjudicators are faced with the challenging task of analyzing unclear legislative
text, they are obligated to utilizing Driedger 's modern approach to statutory interpretation. If it were not for this approach, the elucidation of equivocal
legislative text in legal proceedings would have been entirely disparate and there presumably would have been more discrepancies, inconsistencies, and
controversies over judges ' pivotal decisions made in Canadian courts. Driedger 's modern approach to statutory interpretation provides judges with
discernment, guidance, and insight when making crucial decisions. Evidently, this strategy has facilitated decision making for judges and has
considerably availed them during times where ambiguous statutory language has been a paramount impediment in judicial proceedings. One of the
merits of Driedger 's modern approach to statutory interpretation includes the authorization of judges to explicate legislative text after analyzing the
simple meaning of the text. Every individual should find the plain meaning of the legislative text to be identical as law is intended to be dependable and

The Sick Rose By William Blake Meaning

  • 1. The Sick Rose By William Blake Meaning The Multiple Meanings of The Sick Rose and The Eagle After studying the two poems, The Sick Rose and The Eagle in class and the discussion among the group, it seems to me that the poems haven't got only one single meaning. I also noticed that poems could always be interpreted in different ways with different meanings based on your point of view and your personal knowledge and experience. Poems are also open to interpretations. The Sick Rose is a very decent example of which the poems can be interpreted in different ways. The word "rose" first came into sight in the title, which indicates this word play a chief part in the interpretation of the poem. "Rose" can be a person, as this is a very widespread name for girls in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... William Blake was a poet, writer and also a painter. Just like most of the other writers, he had his own style when creating a piece. He particularly specified in religion, and his ideas of religion, or in other words, the operation of the church contradicted with most of the people at his time, especially the ones with power and money. William Blake was neither rich nor powerful, and he didn't risk his life to express his discontent. He conveyed his feelings in the poem, let alone be aware of his minds and thoughts. Granted that this concept is right, then 'rose' signifies the church, which was being tarnished by the 'priests', which was indicated by ' invisible worm' in the poem. They lived a luxurious life using the donations and they wore expensive red priests robes, which was represented by the phrase 'crimson joy'. There is an idiom 'Do not judge a book by its cover', and that is exactly what the poet was trying to tell us – most of the things do not look as they appear to be. If the poet hadn't experienced the injustice and unfairness of the church, he might not have written this poem. Actually we will never experience the treatment of the church at the time when the poem was written, but knowing the poet's background is a good way to have accurate interpretations. Hence, self–experience is a very important factor leading to varied ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Investigating L2 Learners ' Reanalysis Processes After... 1. Introduction This proposal aims to investigate L2 learners' reanalysis processes after garden paths (GP). Recent L1 studies have suggested the lingering first interpretation even after attempts at reanalysis. For example, when the parser reads the sentence, 'While Anna dressed the baby spit up on the bed', it often persists in the interpretation 'Anna dressed the baby' despite the globally–correct interpretation being 'Anna dressed herself' (Christianson et al., 2001). This phenomenon is attributed not to the incapability of revising the initially assigned interpretation but to the failure in erasing the residual memory of the interpretation (Slattery et al., 2013). Contrary to L1 reanalysis processes, L2 reanalysis processes remain largely unexplored (e.g. Jacob & Felser, 2016). Thus, this proposal will address L2 learners' reanalysis processes. 2. Experiment 1 and 2 Experiment 1 and 2 are designed to examine the parser's final interpretation of the object–subject ambiguity. For this purpose, 48 sentences, exemplified in (1a) and (1b), have been created (1a). After the mother dressed her son had some lunch at the small table. (GP) (1b). After the mother dressed, her son had some lunch at the small table. (Non–GP) The sentence (1a) contains GP and thus requires reanalysis at 'had', whereas (1b) does not due to a comma placed after 'dressed'. If the parser ends up in the interpretation 'the mother dressed herself' ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Summary Of Gothic Children's Literature And The... When encountering the title of this scholarly journal, "Psychoanalysis, "Gothic" Children's Literature, and the Canonization of Coraline", I was excited to delve into the gothic terrain of the subconscious. However, ChloГ© Germaine Buckley's paper does not give us a straightforward analytical reading, but instead challenges the dominant modes of interpretation when dealing with children's literature. Buckley engages with Neil Gaiman's Coraline, challenging some of the critical responses to the book, as well as drawing in some foundational literary criticism authors and thinkers such as Sigmund Freud, Roland Barthes and Lewis Carroll. Buckley's intention with this paper is to oppose restrictive interpretations of Coraline, as she posits the book to be far more complex than most examples of children's literature. Freud's "Uncanny", gothicism, and psychoanalysis have been posited as the best tools for approaching children's literature by the critics Buckley intends to circumvent. She believes these methods are a tangled mess that confuse origin with originality, that mistake the interpretation of Coraline's influences as interpretations of the book itself. Buckley notices that Gaiman has drawn satirically from Freud, offering a crash course for children on psychoanalysis and the uncanny. With this in mind, Buckley wants to make room for more postmodern interpretations that engage intertextuality and satirical elements, in order to fully appreciate the scope of Gaiman's book. ... • 4. Interpretation Of Interpretation In this week, our focus mostly drew on the interpretation of our sources, finding evidence to interoperate, and make up our strong thesis. According to Writing Analytically, the first thing we should pay our attention is that we are supposed to concentrate on what the thing itself communicates as opposed to what someone might have wanted it to communicate, which means that it is not bad thing to interoperate author's intension, however, we should mainly focus on the subject itself. Also, we should avoid both the Fortune Cookie school of interpretation and the " Anything goes" school of interpretation while unfold coherence on our source. The Fortune Cookie is that produces an interpretation containing a single, write answer. In contrast, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Secondly, explain how the details you have focused on in the evidence lead your working thesis. Thirdly, locate evidence that is not adequately accounted for by the working thesis and pursue the implications of that evidence by repeatedly asking "so what?" Explain how and why these pieces of evidence complicate the working thesis. Fourthly, use your analysis of the complicating evidence to reformulate the thesis. Sharing with reader your reasons for moving from your initial claim to this reformulation. Fifthly, test the adequacy of the evolved this by repeating steps two, three, and four until you are satisfied that the thesis statement accounts for your evidence as fully and accurately as possible. The best test of a thesis is to see how much of the relevant evidence it can reasonably account for. Finally, rewrite the draft into a more coherent and fuller analysis of evidence, while retaining for readers the "thesis trail"–the various steps that you went through along the way to formulating the thesis you ultimately choose. I would definitely say that these 6 steps helped me a lot to track with my thesis statement. In this week, we kept our focus on how to make our thesis statement complex and compelling, and also we paid lots of attention on secondary source integration. At this time, we were require to keep on track of our papers. Which means we drew a clear conclusion on what we can change and what we should remain constant at this time. Obviously, ... • 5. Forensic Linguistics: Case Study Analysis: Holmes V. State HG4022 Forensic Linguistics – Case Study Analysis In the case Holmes v. State (1986), Steven Holmes is a deaf–mute seventeen year old who was found guilty of second degree murder for stabbing and killing Francisco Walker, a teacher of Edison Middle School. Holmes admitted to the offense and was sentenced to four years of incarceration and two years of community control. During pre–trial competency proceedings, Holmes was found competent to stand trial. However, Holmes was unable to "answer questions crucial to his defense" (Holmes v. State, 1986:233). Holmes' attorney requested for a re–evaluation of Holmes' competency but was denied. Holmes appealed and the appellate court held that the trial court abused its discretion by denying the request. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He pushed him away. And then, he pushed him away and stabbed him and ran. Additionally, third–person references may influence the court's judgements because such techniques bring in the interpreter's own voice (Angermeyer, 2009:5). Many guidelines provided by legal institutions have stated that the interpreter must always use the first or second person (Berk–Seligson, 2002:60), and to the best of their abilities, replicate the content produced by the person they are interpreting for (Angermeyer, 2009:5). However, the interpreter failed to remain detached, which suggests that his competency to represent the defendant is questionable. Lastly, the interpreter displayed tendencies to narrate and summarize the defendant's testimony, which is unacceptable. According to the National Association of Judiciary Interpreters & Translators (2005), summarizing implies some form of omission of what is being said, which goes against the rules of judiciary interpreting. Furthermore, in order to achieve legal equivalence, the interpreter must not edit, summarize, add, or delete the source content (GonzГЎlez, VГЎsquez, & Mikkelson, 1991:16). A Case Study of One Student's Approach to Reading The Divine Image Hypothesis When Marielle, an English 2 student, was given a series of critical thinking tasks, her first response to the poem, "The Divine Image," by William Blake changed as she followed the direction of each task and built on her previous understanding of the poem. I describe her responses to the eight learning paper tasks and her dissection of the poem for hidden meanings. The Tasks and Various Interpretations For each learning paper, Marielle was given eight different ways to interpret "The Divine Image," by William Blake. Learning paper 1 asked her to read the poem out loud, write down any ideas that came to mind, then write a summary of what the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For learning paper 2, she had to reread the poem, then detect and define key words that made a strong impact on her. What Marielle did was define some of the words she felt were strong –– Mercy, Pity, Love and Peace. She then reread the poem and was asked to reinterpret it. After she identified key words, she felt that "this poem is trying to reinforce the importance of being kind to others and treating them as God would. Mercy, Pity Peace and Love are being reinforced as necessary human qualities." She looked up the literal meanings of the key words, wrote them down, and added comments next to the definitions. After defining and commenting on these key words, her opinion differed. I am able now to see the correlation between the title the "Divine Image" and the song itself. The divine image is expressed in its human form through the actions and feelings of Mercy, Pity, Peace and Love. The Divine Image is referring to God, humans can be Godlike by performing these four feelings and actions. She now felt that humans were considered Divine only if they use Mercy, Pity, Peace and Love. In the beginning, though, she felt that one had to treat others with the same respect like God and that the characteristics were simply important for humans. Even though her opinion changed, she didn't use the dictionary's literal meanings to write a translation of the poem, rather she constructed her version of the poem with the words of the

  • 8. Analysis Of 'The Moon Is A Lighthouse : Revisited' "The Moon is a Lighthouse: Revisited" is a short story that relies heavily on symbolism and imagery and intentionally makes elements of itself vague enough to be interpreted in a variety of ways. The primary story is quite simple on the surface is quite simple. A mother tells her sons to bring her a river. They move the bed towards the river face a window. It is raining, and the brothers decide that the rain is good for making mud. The moon is not visible from the window however. Then, despite the boys asking her to do so, the mother can not see the river because she is on her back. The mother then compares the river to the sky, the stars to the eyes of fish, and the moon to a light house. The first time I read "The Moon is a Lighthouse: Revisited," I had no idea what was happening. I lingered on the portion in the beginning where the mother said "Bring me your river" because I was utterly confused. At first, I thought it was a random interjection that had no relation to the surrounding text, but I quickly realized that the piece of text was just dialogue without quotes around it. My first reading was centered around trying to understand what the piece literally means. My first reading gave me the sense that I was watching a Stanley Kubrick film like 2001: A Space Odyssey, rather than reading a short story because of how experimental it was. Literature is an old art form, so I thought that there were only so many things a person can do to push boundaries, but I was clearly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Sigmund Freud 's The Interpretation Of Dreams Essay Austrian neurologist and now considered the 'father of psychoanalysis', Sigmund Freud, is perhaps known for his theories involving the human brain. During the late 1800s, his therapeutic techniques dealing with psychopathology made him quite influential within and throughout the sphere of psychology and his work has had a tremendous impact on modern culture and common opinion. Freud's The Interpretation of Dreams, first published in 1899, takes into account dream interpretation and theories involving the human brain, why humans dream and what they could mean. By conducting 'free associations' and interpreting numerous case histories of patients' and their dreams, he established such theories such as dreams as wish–fulfillments and regression. In his dream interpretation, Freud treated dreams as a distorted path to the unconscious and believed that the contents of a dream were the fulfillment of a wish and its motive as a wish (Freud 143). In other words, Freud believed that the dreamer's unconscious mind was reflected by the material within a dream and the role of these dreams was to satisfy the basic unconscious fantasies of a human. This assertion implies that wishes those were unable to be fulfilled in the waking life disguise themselves as symbols and imagery and manifest in the conscious mind, administered by the pleasure principle. In Freud's point of view, wishes are repressed desires, mainly sexual, and childhood memories that are fulfilled via dreams, based on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Nietzsche, Reinforced, And Challenged By Nietzsche Yo, I hope you are ready to learn some really cool shizniz about how we understand other shizniz by interpreting that shizniz. Over this past term, I have learned how individuals form an interpretation. Although learning about how to interpret an interpretation was an interesting experience, it also was pretty confusing; therefore, I am going to discuss what I have learned in a way that I hope will be fun to read and easy to understand. In this, you will read about concepts introduced by Nietzsche, reinforced by Gadamer, and challenged by Schott. In each of their articles highlighted key points of how to best understand a concept called "the hermeneutical claim to universality", which can be defined as a notion of first having an interpretation of what one wishes to understand. Basically, this means if we want to understand anything we are trying to find an interpretation. Nietzsche discusses how all individuals make errors–– not grammatical errors like what is presented in this essay–– but errors in truth. Specifically, Nietzsche states that all truths are errors. The concept of all truths being errors can be better understood by recognizing the reasonable assumption that individuals are different and thus will believe different things. However, how can all beliefs be fully true if one 's beliefs contradict another individual 's beliefs? Nietzsche explains that an "objective truth" does not exist for the reason that individuals have different believes of what is true. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. What Is The Theme Of The Bird And The Arras The Bird and the Arras, is a poem written by Anne Finch, Countess of Winchilsea (1661–1720), she has always been a recognised author, but the recognition of her works have been revived in the last years. Her poetry reflects her thoughts and personal experiences, but also the social and political situation of the era (18 th century, England). As in the case of the poem "The Bird and the Arras", the author describes the situation of the women of the time by the using of the symbol of the bird. During the poem, the room where the bird is trapped, which has a high ceiling, has an arras, and the bird tries to follow the birds that appear on the arras. As a consequence of trying to follow the birds that appear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Till some kind hand directs the certain way" we can find a synecdoche, "kind hand" could be God's hand which will take her (the bird) to heaven, with this detail we can fathom that women were trapped in society, as heaven seems to be the only way to freedom they can find. The use of "Heav'n" has a special meaning that confirms what mentioned before; the poet has chosen the use of "Heav'n" instead of "sky" to reinforce the idea that it is the only way to freedom. The room where the bird is could be interpreted as a marriage, where the woman is nullified or it can represent a real room. Secondly, from the analysis made above, we can get to several interpretations of the poem. On a literal way the poem is describing how a bird tries to escape from a room because it is lock in it, which is a dramatic situation, as it is described in the poem. The first interpretation, is that "she" will be free when "she" dies, as every time "she" tries to reach freedom fails "And leads to ample space, the only Heav'n of Birds". The second is more pessimistic as it concludes that "she" will never be free, as every ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Crucible Of Life Has Provided Me With An... Reading The Crucible of Life has provided me with an epistemological system to begin my journey into serious theological contemplation. I have thoroughly enjoyed thinking about the interrelationship of reason, experience, and scripture. Foremost, the relationship of reason and experience has proved highly. Understanding the ways in which reason and experience relate to each other is a tricky concept indeed and it is one that I look to in order to discern the process of learning in general. It is this process that allows learning to occur. Also, this process must begin at some point. This point, as suggested by Wesley, begins with the authoritative information of scripture for trans–sensory understanding and it has been interesting for me ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I do not buy into this distinction and I do believe that an authoritative canon adequately deals with the interaction problem. Any further questions about reality itself do not effect us and, therefore, are meaningless to us. Additionally, the realization of an overly pragmatic theology found in chapter nineteen proved interesting; especially in consideration of Wesley's Experiential Theology. We mustn't become overly skeptical in our beliefs if we wish to discover as many new ideas that we possibly can. In this case, the best option would be the option that does not rule out an option unless logical necessity urges otherwise. We must remain consistent in our analysis of the hermeneutical spiral if we wish to continue through it in an appropriate, reasonable way. This sort of idea holds true for any hermeneutical process, but it is especially significant in the method that Wesley offers because of its reliance on correct understanding for scriptural, and then experiential, interpretation. Improper interpretation can lead to drastically false beliefs if carried on for too long. Correspondingly, we must apply the most accurate and consistent experience in order to receive the results that more accurately point towardstruth in Wesley's system. So, if we wish to perform Wesley's method in the most probable fashion to produce truth known to humankind, we must provide the hermeneutical process with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Questions On The Nature Of Interpretation Hypothetical Misinterpretation Jerrold Levinson, a prominent hypothetical intentionalist, through his explanation of the relationship between artworks and exploratory interpretations, has gone under criticism for allowing misinterpretations to be deemed as valid "could mean" options. However, one finds when reading "Two Notions of Interpretation" and "Intention and Interpretation in Literature" that these criticisms are effectively countered by two arguments that Levinson presents. Firstly, although the exploratory mode of inquiry can have multiple, if not infinite, could mean answers, it also has could not mean answers. These could not mean interpretations provide insight into the work and allow for interpretations to be judged on a scale ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because they are ludic and not grounded in physical realities one can come up with multiple "correct" interpretations that are sound but mutually exclusive. To construe what something could mean, Levinson proposes that we, as interpreters, be pragmatic and use logic in combination with our given knowledge of the contexts of works to determine their interpretations. Although there exists an impulse to either exclusively use does mean or could mean modes of inquiry, like an x–ray for the former and a metaphor for the latter, the two modes actually have mutual implications. To examine an x–ray for what it means is to postulate what it could mean and then come to an apt conclusion. To examine a metaphor is to find what is a plausible response in a determinative context of semantic possibilities. There also exist instances of purely could mean inquiries, says Levinson, like the infinite volumes of Babel, but without a does mean interpretation available, as there are no intentions behind the works, the infinite possible could mean interpretations create an absence of meaning. It is here I would like to extend the definition of does mean interpretation beyond scientific knowledge based answers, to include hypothetical DM interpretations. • 16. Dream Interpretation Research Paper Dream interpretation is an old tradition that dates back at least as far as Biblical times. Perhaps the most famous instance of dream interpretation is where the Pharaoh tells David his dreams about seven skinny sheep eating seven fat sheep and seven skinny ears of corn eating seven fat ears of corn. David interpreted this to mean seven years of bumper crops followed by seven years of poor crops. With proper planning, this allowed the Pharaoh to protect his people from potential famine during the coming lean years. Dreams can be a means to tap into subconscious thought processes and tell us what we know that we don't even consciously realize that we know. But we are also more psychically sensitive when we sleep. So our dreams can contain extra sensory information that is unavailable to most people when they are awake. • 17. Biblical Interpretation Of The Bible Essay Genesis 1–3 offered the very first outline of societal norms and therein introduced interpretations of norms related to family, gender, and sex. In our now–progressive society, the constraints of indubitable religion are removed and the differing interpretations of gender, sex, and family within religion are freely debated. Since the text of creation is divine and human logic cannot fully interpret or understand God's word, there are copious, varying interpretations of the text. An essential starting point for interpreting the Bible is the understanding that misinterpretations are bound to happen. The difference in time and context alone is causation, let alone the factors of translation and transcription. Susan T. Foh and Carol Meyers, both graduates of Wellesley College, have very differing strategies regarding how to interpret divine texts. Meyers, a professor at Duke, directed attention towards the context in which the text was written. Since our societies are constantly in flux, the context from when the text was written is often different from the context in which predominant and accepted interpretations were fabricated. Foh's strategy of interpreting and understanding the text is to utilize latter parts of the text, which were written with more recent contexts, in order to understand the text. Both of these methodologies set up the text to be re–interpreted, however, Foh's methodology is more complete because it allows the text to speak for itself rather than bring in ... There are several instances where a judge may call for statues to be interpreted. For example, when there is failure in legislation on a particular point such as, change in the use of language. When there is a form of ambiguity in the statue it can lead to a dispute. Mean a dispute can arise when a statue can have more than one meaning which, could affect the outcome of a case dependent on which meaning they use to interpret the statue. However, statue in the 18th century, used words which has different meanings. Which, was illustrated in the case of Cheeseman v DPP. The defendant was witnessed masturbating in public toilet by the police officers. However, Under The Town Police Clauses Act 1847 , stated that they must be a passenger. On the other hand, The Public Health Amendment Act 1902, stated that the word, 'street' could mean any public places under the control of local authority which were the police officers. The Police Clauses Act stated the word, 'passenger' could have different meanings but, in this case they believed that it could mean a, 'foot passenger' also, the police were not travelling at the time they saw the defendant and he could not be arrested under these circumstances. This shows that there can be ambiguity interpreting statutes because, there was a form of lexical and structural ambiguity interpreting which resulted in a statutory ... One may choose to see waltz as a recollection of a beautiful moment in time. Another interpretation has a much darker tone as one could choose to see the violence within the movement of the waltz and not the beauty for which it is known. Thus, one may interpret the poem as a fond memory of a father as told by his son, the author. However, the poem could also be viewed as a revelation of a complicated relationship between a father and a son. With that said, the first set of lines "The whiskey on your breath / Could make a small boy dizzy" (lines 1–2) reveal the fact that his father may have been an alcoholic or was at least drunk during the waltz. The fact that the author chose to blend something as elegant as a waltz with something so violent as an intoxicated individual is indicative of the author's clever use of words. The... Roethke proceeds to continue his trend of ambiguity in the final lines of the poem which state "Then waltzed me off to bed / Still clinging to your shirt." In this the reader can still find the positive and negative interpretations coexisting within the lines. The Rime of the Ancient Mariner has been interpreted in a variety of ways since it's creation in 1797. Some, such as Gavin McGann, argue that ballad is a story of our salvation of Christ, whereas others dispute this, believing it to be a metaphor for Original Sin in the Garden of Eden. Whilst these interpretations may differ, the view that The Rime may be read as a religious text does not. He implies," that one must avoid reading meaning into the text that are not inherent in the text." He go on future to say," We must allow the text to speak for itself without imposing on it a predetermined interpretation." Study shows axiom (rule of interpretation) of biblical hermeneutics is that the interpreter must take into count the literary genre of the passage being interpreted along with the question of text grammars, philology, background and history (Nicole.p.356–57).The writer discusses the different between "prescriptive or descriptive texts. It is important in the hermeneutics process to distinguish what in Scripture is prescriptive, embodying God's commandment to us, and what is descriptive, relating events or attitudes that may or may not be desirable (Nicole.p.357). Even though we Know that" God is the primary author of Scripture." it is imperative that certain practices in both New and Old Testament are merely describe, or serve as a culture background of the activity even of some who were God's children, without implying that we shall conform to these practices (Nicole. Often, a person with knowledge of, and proficiency in one or more foreign languages will work in both translating and interpreting, but these are different professions involving different sets of abilities. Translation Translating is converting text from one language to another, and therefore focuses on language in its written form. A translator takes a document written in the source language, reads and understands it, and then re–writes the document in the target language. Interpretation Interpretation involves verbal communications – listening to, and understanding what is said in one language and then verbally expressing it in another language. Interpretation is broken down between: Simultaneous interpretation, which involves converting what is being said in a meeting, presentation, seminar or other type of communication forum, into the target language at the same time the speaker is talking, with a very short lag, practically anticipating what the speaker is going to say. Consecutive interpretation, which is listening and comprehending what the speaker is saying, in short blocks of speech, and then converting what was said into the target language. • 23. Moral And Spiritual Parables In The Bible In The Bible Parable 1 Throughout the Bible you'll discover many parables that tell a simple story of how Jesus illustrates moral and spiritual lessons. Parables give one or more instructional lessons or principles that can be an allegory. Parables also hold key words from Jesus' readings that are meant to grasp people's attention and making sure they are hearing what is said. Jesus wants the listeners to focus on what is being said so that they will understand what He is teaching them. For example, "He who has ears" is a saying that is worded differently so that the reader's attention is grasped. It has been said that a parable is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning because of the hidden key words implemented in the text. Jesus frequently used parables as a way to illustrate profound and divine truths. Readers can break down parables and vigorously study them to better understand Jesus' way of teaching, but mainly in order to be able to connect to Him through them. The disciples noticed the change in Jesus' teaching and asked why he told a parable. In response Jesus said "To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, but to them it has not been granted" (Mathew 13:11). Its weird to think Jesus would leave people in question. Jesus would explain to the disciples that those who have, to him more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. • 24. Analysis Of The Text ' The ' Of The Bible ' There are many things which are similar and differences in both texts about the whole story of creation, some of them are noteworthy and would be explained as the essay proceeds. Philo, in his interpretation of the text was more lenient and warm in his attitude towards women. He does not cite woman as to be the mother of all evil and suffering in heaven and earth, and he has a warmth towards woman while handling issues of creation(Charlesworth. et al, 2010 ). While Midrash is a little cynical of the role of woman in heaven and earth. The first similarity between the two interpretations can be observed by the question as to why does scripture call the likeliness of woman "a building"? it is explained in both texts that the harmonious coming together of man and woman is figuratively a house, and everything which is without a woman is imperfect and homeless. Man is entrusted the public state of affairs, while the woman holds the affairs of home. While a woman is near home, household management is proper and diligent. The second question to which we find the similar interpretation of both Philo and Midrash was why was woman, unlike other animals and man, was not formed from earth and created by side of man. The first reason both interpretations present is that woman is not equal in honor with man. The second is that woman is not equal in age to man, and she is younger to man in age. Both interpretations suggest that man should take care of woman as necessary part of him, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But her intention of giving a flick knife to her supervisor was to punish a youth member. So literal rule is not applicable because it gives us an absurd result. So we will apply the golden rule approach because according to that approach her purpose of act was sensible so she will not be found guilty of her act. (ii)According to Fisher v Bell, displaying an old military knife with a spring opening device in his shop window with a price label is treated as an invitation to treat by Tony, and not an offer. According to literal approach ofstatutory interpretation, it is the task of the court to give a statute's words their literal meanings regardless of whether the result is sensible or not. So, Tony will not be found guilty by this rule. (iii)Under the literal rule of statutory interpretation, Fola will be guilty an offence because she has given a flick knife to another person. There is an ambiguity as she donates the box to a charity shop without checking the contents of the box. However if we apply the mischief or purposive rule it will give us the clear intentions of her that her purpose of the act was to donate box of kitchen utensils so she will not be found guilty. Analysis Of Chapter 99 Of Moby-Dick Society is currently at this peculiar point in which we condemn the sordidness of others, yet we do not acknowledge or attempt to change our own ignoble thoughts and intentions. The vast majority of people have committed an ignoble act or even had a dirty thought at one point in their lives. So how do we justify our own sordidness, yet denounce others for theirs? To put it simply: We interpret it differently. We examine our own thoughts and intentions in a completely different light than how we view others. People possess an entire set of context and past experiences that they can utilize in order to justify their own shameful thoughts and behaviors which they lack when examining the sordidness of others. In this sense, the interpretation of our own sordidness does not necessarily solve the issue. • 27. Interpretation Of My Papa's Waltz By Theodore Roethke A Perfect Balance While the subject of "My Papa's Waltz" by Theodore Roethke has spurred passionate academic debate from professors, scholars, and students alike, the imagery, syntax, and diction of the poem clearly support the interpretation that Roethke writes this ambiguous poem with the intent to create a controversial interpretation which can be viewed as both or either an abusive or fond memory between father and son. Both interpretations can be supported by multiple pieces of evidence which creates a conflict for the reader to need clarification for which way to interpret the poem. The controversy from "My Papa's Waltz sparked due to Roethke's mixed use of words retaining negative or positive connotations which can support either argument. One word could lead to either abuse or a memory. For example, the first line of the fourth stanza contains "You beat time on my head" which can be seen in a variety of ways. At first glance, it may seem as if the father physically hit the child with his hand; however, upon a deep analysis, it becomes clear that one might interpret the word "beat" as though it's the rhythm of a dance. Roethke makes readers delve deep into the context just to find both meanings. He cleverly uses diction to require the reader to reread his poem. Due to the numerous amounts of phrases containing words chosen with positive and negative connotations, Roethke fabricates a perfect balance which causes the reader to find difficulty understand the true meaning of "My Papa's Waltz. Although Roethke's use of diction may fuel both arguments, It cannot reveal his intentions behind the poem alone. He uses imagery to his advantage of this mind game by plugging in words throughout the poem which captivate the reader and force them to form a mental image; he does illustrates in "My Papa's Waltz" by stating "The whiskey on your breath could make a small boy dizzy." This statement reveals how drunk the father is which sets interpretation for the rest of the poem. Since drinking is one cause of abuse, numerous amounts of people may see the rest of the poem as the father abusing his child. The View and Interpretation of the Term Genre Discuss what we understand by the term 'genre' and how it relates to the way we view and interpret films The way in which we, as an audience, view and interpret films can be seen to relate directly to our understanding of 'genre'. However, what is genre? Drawing on the knowledge of key theorists and critics such as Steve Neale and Barry Langford this essay will first attempt to define genre and our understanding of it before focusing on how genre relates to the audiences view and interpretation of films. It will also touch upon the historical contexts of genre, and how genre helps the film industry create films and their interpretation of film. An interpretation that differs in a number of ways to that of an audience's due to their goals being different thanks to the ways they view film. Before we can begin to delve into how genre relates to the way we as an audience view and interpret films, we must first attempt to define and understand what the term genre means when relating it to the film industry, in particular Hollywood. Genre is a simple French word meaning 'type' and therefore when taking this simple, direct approach we can see genre as a type of film or films such as a 'comedy', which has the association, in many cases, with humour. However, this approach generates large conflicting ideals within 'set genres'. It provides the understanding that genre has fixed boundaries that cannot be pushed to allow for flexibility in a films direction. An example of this can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both Shelley's Frankenstein and Nabokov's The Real Life of Sebastian Knight investigate problems of reality, strongly suggesting that real knowledge of someone cannot exist or is at best inaccessible. However, while Nabokov and Frankenstein suggest that one may never be able to know the "real life" of another person, perhaps one's failed attempts to perfectly capture that reality–reflections or interpretations of reality, that is–function as the most meaningful "reality" for the would–be knower. V.'s definition of "real" itself makes real knowledge an impossibility. While V. never explicitly defines "real," readers can piece together an approximate understanding from the metaphors he uses to express his lack of access to the real Sebastian. Although V. "could describe the way he [Sebastian Knight] walked, or laughed, or sneezed," these facts "would be no more than sundry bits of cinema–film cut away by scissors and having nothing in common with the essential drama" (Larsen 16). Characters know much about Sebastian but "he himself escapes [them]" (Larsen 28–9). It's this "essential drama" or "he himself" that V. identifies as real–the core essence of someone or something. And after a conversation with Sebastian, V. longed "for no earthly reason (...) to say something real, something with wings and a heart," suggesting that something real is otherworldly, incorporeal ("no earthly reason", "wings and a heart"), and thus beyond V.'s ability to know. Yann Martel, the author of the text, declares that "reality is an interpretation, a choice of readings, a choice of stories." The definition of reality, therefore, is not events which actually occur, but what is real to an individual. Every person has a different reality, shaped by their experiences, beliefs, interpretations, readings and stories. In other words, you choose your reality. In Life of Pi, Pi is always searching for the "better story". While Pi is describing agnostics, he proclaims that they "lack imagination and miss the better story" (Martel 64) in life. He later inquires of the men interviewing him, "'Which is the better story, the story with animals or the story without animals?'" (Martel 317) after recounting two versions of his 227 days at sea. The "better story" is the story which opens up the mind, the story which provides you with a new way of observing the world. Being able to see the better story is an act of interpretation and creation. It is how we view the world and generate meaning from it. When Descartes made this statement in his fourth meditation, what was he conjecturing by the term "perfect?" According to the standard interpretation, perfect encompasses all required or desirable elements, qualities, or characteristics; as good as it is possible to be. Nevertheless, perfect has different competing interpretations. Perfect could be expressed as complete, flawless, or accurate. Hence, illuminating different denotations of Descartes' meaning of perfect could stimulate numerous interpretations of the passage. The first interpretation of perfect could be expressed as complete, or having all the necessary or appropriate parts; lacking nothing; whole or unabridged. For instance, Descartes states, "Thus I see plainly that the certainty and truth of all knowledge depends strictly on my awareness of the true God. So much so that until I became aware of him I couldn't perfectly know anything" (В§121). Descartes expresses his dependency on and eagerness for God's true knowledge. Asabi al–nuzЕ«l is the term for "occasions" or "reasons" for the revelations and "Succinctly put, it captures the historical and contextual investigations that various verses and suras of the Quran provoked" (). Some of the verses may have been revealed by Muhammad in response to a question he was asked, but for many of the verses there is no specific reason for their revelations. In Q109 some grammatical peculiarities can be observed and are questioned. One profound objection "is the objective pronoun used in the third verse of Q 109, 'what I worship'. Should not, the grammarians asked, the correct expression be 'You do not worship whom I worship?' After all, God is a 'who', not a 'what'" (). This question is answered by Al–TЕ«si by saying the "what" in this phrase is referring to an Idol. The next question regarding the repetition in the verses is answered simply as repetition is used as a rhetorical device to provide emphasis on a statement. This article provides a strong secular disposition and does answer many common fundamental questions in understanding the verses of the Qur'an. It provides a better understanding of the setting when these verses were written and why they were written in such a way. Since Islam is one of the oldest religions, with plenty of interpretations, it faces opposition when analyzed from a 21st century mind. A weakness I find in this article is that it doesn't provide a basis for what Islam or the Qur'an represent. It just analyzes the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Myth Of Truth Analysis Truth has always been a very vague and grey area for many people, it's something that cannot be agreed on by every single person. Each person has their own set of past experiences that have built upon their morals, values and ethics. This ties in with their overall idea of why they view truth and lies in the way that do. Professor Hedrick is interesting in the way that she teaches literature through the historical point of view, proving background information that enables students to build upon this background knowledge and find the interpretation for that piece of literature. Much like our differing viewpoints on the concepts behind truth and lies can be connected to differing interpretations over a certain work of literature. But when truth ... Knapp, et all, Lying, 54 The idea of concept of lying, deception and truth as a grey area was introduced and throughout the interview Professor Hedrick stuck to her stance of truth depending on the person in question. Our journey through life has heavily influenced the ever–changing stance over truth. Knapp, et all, Lying, 57 Throughout the interview she spoke about her seeing changes in the students, in their ideas, how they evolve in just a semester. Ethics to her is like a scale, it needs to be constantly adjusted, adapted and balanced. Much like her students writing styles, she sees their speech, their viewpoints over the world change drastically in just a semester, some students regress and others thrive. Their interpretations open up and they come up to her with what they thought but she is no stranger to the lies students tell. In her long career, she has had many outlandish lies told to her, what students will do to get out of trouble or an extension on an exam or extra credit. The idea of lying to an authority figure that could end in severe consequences is a lie that many students would not think of before but when they enter the college scene, they change; some students would do anything to get a little extra credit. It's part of her job to be vigilant for the possible lies students may tell in an attempt to take advantage of her. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Interpretation By Susan Sontag Asif Ali Swetha Antony, Assistant Professor, DU IA Term Paper Sem– II 3 APRIL 2015 Susan Sontag's View on Interpretation and its Applications and Analysis Using Bedlam Painting Number Eight Interpretation has been a phenomenon existing from the time immemorial. There has been a long tradition of interpretation, in all occupations. Interpretation of arts and literature has gone to an extent that it has taken shape of a discipline and has grown as a methodology and an art itself. Eliot even says, "We might remind ourselves that criticism is as inevitable as breathing". Method of Interpretation has long been a subject of discussion among intellectual circles and it has been subject to a constant evolution ever since it came into being. Moreover, the conventional methods have always been circling around the dynamics of relationship of the signifier and the signified, a discourse upon meaning of a work of art. Sontag has proposed an objection towards the traditional methods of such kind. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 40. The Repetitive Recital : Metaphors, Imagery, And Anaphora The Repetitive Recital: Metaphors, Imagery, and Anaphora in Billy Collins's "Litany" There are few poets who have written such a subtly humorous work as Billy Collins has done in "Litany". This poem has achieved being humorous due to the use of metaphors, imagery, and anaphora. The strange metaphors and imagery when referring to the female character make every persons interpretation very unique because the metaphors are not as clear as others. The female character is being compared to strange household items, and aspects of nature, such as animals. Within Billy Collins "Litany", metaphors, imagery, andanaphora are used to speak favorably about a female character in a subtly comical way. While metaphors are meant to be a comparison between two unlike things, Collins takes it to an entirely new level. The first few lines of the poem are "You are the bread and the knife, the crystal goblet and the wine"(Line 1–2). Collins is saying here that a woman can be compared to bread and a knife, and a crystal goblet and the wine. There is no ability to understand what the poet might mean when he says that a woman can be compared to bread and a knife, it is open to the interpretation of each individual reader. An interpretation of the first line might be that the woman in the poem is independent, playing multiple roles within her own or someone else's life. • 42. The Interpretation Of Statutory Interpretation Driedger 's modern approach to statutory interpretation has substantially impacted the comprehension of ambiguous statutory language in Canadian courts for several decades. Although there are some drawbacks and flaws in this method, there is a myriad of merits that have positively shaped the interpretation of ambiguous statutory language over the years. When adjudicators are faced with the challenging task of analyzing unclear legislative text, they are obligated to utilizing Driedger 's modern approach to statutory interpretation. If it were not for this approach, the elucidation of equivocal legislative text in legal proceedings would have been entirely disparate and there presumably would have been more discrepancies, inconsistencies, and controversies over judges ' pivotal decisions made in Canadian courts. Driedger 's modern approach to statutory interpretation provides judges with discernment, guidance, and insight when making crucial decisions. Evidently, this strategy has facilitated decision making for judges and has considerably availed them during times where ambiguous statutory language has been a paramount impediment in judicial proceedings. One of the merits of Driedger 's modern approach to statutory interpretation includes the authorization of judges to explicate legislative text after analyzing the simple meaning of the text. Every individual should find the plain meaning of the legislative text to be identical as law is intended to be dependable and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
