The Metaphor Title of Sense and Sensibility Essay
In this novel Jane Austen uses the title of the book itself as a metaphor to illustrate the differences
between the two main characters, with Elinor to represent the sense and Marianne to represent the
sensibility. Sense and sensibility also indicates a split division, polar opposites, and how these
opposites compliment each other, as can be seen throughout the novel.
The dominant theme in this novel is sense prevailing over sensibility. It is a theme which can be seen
in most of the characters; however the concentration is on Elinor and Marianne, who are two sisters
and are often perceived as polar opposites. Marianne tends to be viewed as the `sensibility and Elinor
as the `sense . Jane Austen opens the novel with the girls father, ... Show more content on

Her good sense always prevails and guides her to act in an appropriate manner making impartial and
reasonable decisions throughout the novel. This is apparent at the beginning of the novel when the
girls lose their father and their half brother and his wife fanny move into Norland, leaving the
Dashwood ladies with a meagre income. Marianne and her mother are so overcome with grief that the
practical issues are left to Elinor, Jane Austen highlights this in chapter one.
`So earnestly did she despise her daughter in law for it, that, on that on the arrival of the latter she
would have quitted the house forever, had not the entreaty of her eldest girl induced her first to reflect
on the propriety of going.. (pg 4)
`Elinor, this eldest daughter whose advise was so effectual, possessed a strength of understanding, and
coolness of judgement, which qualified her, though only nineteen, to be the counsellor of her mother..
(pg 4)
Jane Austen shows us Marianne s over the top, melodramatic, romantic nature when she describes the
departing from Norland. Although Elinor is saddened at having to leave, she quietly keeps it to herself.
Marianne however, bursts into `poetry and exaggerates all that she says,
`Oh! Happy house, could you know what I suffer in now viewing you from this spot, from whence
perhaps I may view you no more! and you, ye well known trees! (Pg 23)

Silent Killers Summary
Silent Killers A group in Mexico, called Global Ban Now, raised awareness of plastic in the ocean in
their video Silent Killers. One fateful day, a member discovered a very sick and weak turtle off the
coast of La Paz, Mexico. The poor thing was struggling to breathe, and it was teetering into death s
hands. The turtle was brought to a local facility where they found out that the feverish marine animal
had consumed a plastic bag, and was slowly starving because the bag was blocking her digestive tract.
Luckily, the turtle was saved just in time, and in a couple of weeks, was released back to sea. Even
though plastic bags are not the worst issue in our world, we should ban plastic bags because it is
harmful to marine life and to our environment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Co-Worker Assignment
When I read this assignment I had so many ideas in my mind and decided to talk to a co worker from
Ghana. Her name is Lina she has been in the states for fine year now. She first landed to a state that
she was the only person of color and that made it difficult for her to find jobs and not many people
who wanted to be associated with her. Also she also had a language barrier as she wasn t fluent in
English when speaking and this continued to be the problem as people would not articulate what she
saw saying. As Lina mentioned she was at very discouraged that she was giving up on her dreams to
be in America. The felt confused and didn t know what to do. It was when she decided to look for jobs

Creon The Tragic Hero In The Play Antigone
In the play Antigone, there are many people that could be the tragic hero. It could be Antigone with
her pride, or Ismene with her fear. Personally, I believe that Creon is the tragic hero. Creon has three
big harmartias. Those three are: pride, stubbornness, and fear. Throughout the whole play, Creon is too
busy worrying about what people think of him instead of thinking about family. Unfortunately, it was
too late for Creon to change his mistakes. Creon s biggest hamartia is pride. After Creon finds out that
Antigone buried her brother, he questions Antigone and Ismene. Creon decides to spare Ismene but
rules that Antigone should be buried alive in a cave as punishment for her transgressions ( Antigone ).
He does this because earlier,

Test Of Dispersion Of Oak Trees
1. (3) Write the statistical hypotheses for the test of dispersion for oak. The null hypothesis for this
study assumes that the dispersion of oaks is random. The comparison of observed and expected oak
trees through a Poisson analysis will determine the actual dispersion of oaks. Therefore, the statistical
hypothesis is, if the observed oak tree dispersion is equal to the expected distribution of oaks it will be
determined through the Poisson function. 2. (4) What is a Poisson distribution and why/how is it

Due to being less mobile, the characteristic of the plant may determine the type of seed that can occur.
Consequently, certain dispersion configurations may be more beneficial for certain plants. For
example, if young oak seedlings demonstrate clumped dispersion then this may suggest that they have
a limited seed dispersal range, or that there is an uneven distribution of nutrients or other resources in
the environment, or possible social interaction such as nutrients sharing. However, clumped
distributions are at the mercy of chance, for example, fire or disease could easily decimate all the oaks
in a given area if they are isolated. 1. (11) Construct a distribution table in Excel for the grave markers

It is an important network traffic baseline definition. 6. Why is it important to use protocol capture
tools and protocol analyzers as an information systems security professional? Protocol capture tools
and protocol analyzers are important tools for an information systems security professional. These
utilities can be used to troubleshoot issues on the network. They can verify adherence to corporate
policies, such as whether or not clear text privacy data is being sent on the network. They can be used
to test security countermeasures and firewall deployments and are needed to perform audits, security
assessments, network baseline definitions, and identification of rogue IP devices. 7. What are some
challenges to baseline analysis? Challenges to baseline analysis include simplifying the data for better
analysis, dealing with large size packet capture files, and working with multiple tools to gain an
accurate perspective on the network. It is important to know that base lining is not a one time task, but
a regular part of network monitoring. 8. Why would an information systems security practitioner want

K-Protoping Essay
2.1 The k Prototypes Method Data clustering is a method used to group items into different clusters.
The items in same cluster are similar and the items in different clusters are dissimilar. Huang (1998)
introduced a k prototypes algorithm that allows for clustering objects with mixed numeric and
categorical attributes. The k prototype algorithm can be used to cluster a large portfolio of the VA
contracts with mixed numeric and categorical attributes. We define a large portfolio that contains n VA
contracts as X=(x ⃑_1,x ⃑_2,x ⃑_3,...,x ⃑_n). We denote the ith contract in the portfolio as x ⃑_i.
Attributes of each contract are classified into numerical attributes and categorical attributes. Assuming

We call the contracts that belong to a cluster a member of that particular cluster. The k prototype
algorithm can update the cluster memberships γ_i^((0))given the centroids, and it can update the
centroids given cluster memberships. This process is repeated until some conditions (explained in
step1.4) happened. This process includes the following steps, Step 1.1: Initialize the centroids K
distinct contracts are randomly chosen from the portfolio as an initial centroid, which is μ ⃑_1^((0)),μ
⃑_2^((0)),μ ⃑_3^((0)),...,μ ⃑_k^((0)). Step 1.2: Update the clustering memberships Then, the
clustering memberships are updated γ_1,γ_2,γ_3,...,γ_n as, γ_i^((0))=argmax┬(1≤j≤k)⁡
〖 D(x ⃑,μ
⃑_j^((0)),λ)〗, Where D(.) is the distance function. Step 1.3: Update the Centroids. The centroids are
updated at this step as, μ ⃑_jh^((1) )=1/C_j ∑_(x ⃑∈C_j)▒x_h ,h=1,2,3,...,d_1 μ ⃑_jh^((1)

can take different valuesA_h1,A_h2,A_h3,...,A_(hm_h ).The f_ht (C_j) is how many times the hth
attribute equal to values A_ht,t=1,2,3,...,m_h, which is, f_ht (C_j )=|x ⃑∈C_j 〖:x〗_h 〖=A〗_ht

Theme Of A Grain Of Wheat
Thus, Ngugi resort to use mythological figures in order unite and liberate the Kenyans, also he uses
such figures to fossilize the Mau Mau in Kenyan s mind and to feel proud of their revolution. Neatly,
Ngugi enlists and compares Mau Mau members to Prometheus (who defied to steal the fire from other
gods to pave the liberation s way). No wonder Ngugi considers Mau Mau fighters as symbols of
resistance because they suffered for getting freedom and liberation. (Ngugi. Detained1981: 111)
The myth is directly linked to the Kikuyu legend of Gikuyu and Mumbi, the founding ancestors of the

External Forces Of Darkness In Shakespeare s Play By...
External forces of darkness Darkness is always associated with evil and to a certain extent deception.
In our society, darkness tends to be the primary characteristic of evil. It is also associated with the
supernatural, something Shakespeare uses a lot in his plays. William Shakespeare employs the
imagery of darkness throughout his tragedy plays, although to different extents. He uses dark images
often to describe the horrors and the evils the characters portray, and these intensified internal tragic
flaws are typically the result of their own doom. Noticeably Shakespeare Likes to use supernatural
effects to create eerie and unsettling feelings amongst the audience and or readers.
The forces of darkness of Shakespeare s tragic protagonists come from the idea that the characters
themselves are the reason these bad things happen to them, because they cannot control their internal
tragic flaws which overall in the end turns into evil. This however makes the characters so fascinating
to watch. The external forces of darkness are an aspect of these four tragedies that do play an
important role in the plays. The understanding I got from this connection was that instead of blaming
their weaknesses on themselves the protagonists blamed forces of darkness for their own issues.
Although this evilness was there it wasn t the root cause of the characters going out of control. It
showed me that people are always going to find any way to take the blame off themselves and put it
on others because it is one of the best coping mechanism.
The fall of the characters are triggered by external darkness. External darkness comes within a
character from evil forces. And it seems the protagonists blame their own internal flaws on this
external evil. The characters are driven by this darkness to create devastation inside the play. For
example, Hamlet s death is the end of an external wickedness which follows him throughout the plays.
And like the death of King Lear s beloved daughter Cordelia we see that force of darkness become
overwhelming. Macbeths external force of darkness

Falkirk Technology
Technology is used all around the world, in almost every country, and in all of the states. But the
different countries use technology in different ways, and each country has its own unique type of
technology. Many people in Scotland already use digital technology regularly and confidently.
Scotland is not as advanced in technology as other countries, but is by far not the least advanced.
Scotland has many amazing advanced types of technology, for example, Falkirk wheel. The Falkirk
wheel is an amazing piece of modern technology and is being recognized as a very popular tourist
attraction. The Falkirk wheel was designed to connect the fourth and clyde canal. The union canal is
located in a natural open amphitheatre at rough castle near Falkirk. This piece of amazing machine is
the only rotating boat lift in the world and is quite literally one of a kind. This is just one of the
amazing pieces of technology that Scotland has created. Now maybe Scotland isn t as up to the latest
technology like some countries (such as ours) but it does have some very unique and amazing
machines. Falkirk wheel isn t even the most amazing piece of technology Scotland has to offer.

Business Intelligence Balanced Scorecard product by Medstreaming Inc
Abstract
This paper highlights viability of having a new product offering by Medstreaming Company namely a
Business Intelligence Balanced Scorecard specifically designed for the healthcare sector. Focus of the
study is on identifying the appropriate measurement metrics for the balanced scorecard. The project
has added knowledge to the critical issues which need to be addressed by the healthcare organizations
in implementing the Business Intelligence Balanced Scorecard product within the system. This project
also discusses the benefits which the proposed business intelligence tool once implemented in a
healthcare organization can provide for all hierarchical levels of the organization. Introduction
Research studies indicate that a good proportion of adverse safety events can be prevented in hospitals
globally by deploying effective business intelligence tools which can capture the reasons for
occurrence of such events in a quantitative manner. It has been reported that approximately 70,000
healthcare mishaps within the operational domain of the leading hospitals within Canada could have
been avoided by using appropriate metrics (Ferrand and Amyot, 2010). Besides safety aspect, it has
been seen that with growing corporatization of the healthcare sector, the enterprises operational
management is being induced to maximize the returns from the available resources (both man and
material). Under such a

How Organizations are Changing in the World Today
The natural forces that bring companies together are dissipating in the communications and
information technologies industries. Core competencies that form much of the force of economies of
scope are becoming increasingly narrowed and specialized, leading us to industry fragmentation in the
information revolution contrasting against the industry consolidation that accompanied the industrial
revolution. If we look behind the curtain of public policy dressed in its diverse laws and regulations,
we see less rather than more gravity drawing the communications industry into operational or
financial consolidation. Neither vertical nor horizontal integration of communications related
businesses appears compellingly natural. The rate of technological advancements (and apparent lack
of economies of scale that such behemoths as Bell Labs once enjoyed) allows industry giants to be
toppled at unprecedented rates. Instead we see a growing value in cooperatively developed integrative
standards that will marry such distant cousins as content to conduit, computing to transportation,
appliance functionality to communications.
Thus, consolidation of firms has greater value in its portfolio effect than in economies of scope and
scale (the uncertainty of just which information and communications products will be successful
carries risks that can be mitigated by having a portfolio of such products). The present rate of
technological change in the information and communications industries also

In the course of the letter, King uses philosophical, religious and historical examples to get his points
across. In the third paragraph he compares his participation in Birmingham to that of the prophets of
the eighth century and the Apostle Paul who also traveled to a foreign place to communicate their
messages. Since King is also a man of the cloth (reverend) he is able to use these biblical characters in
his letter to illustrate his knowledge of the bible and by justifying his actions on their terms he is also
able to show his intelligent. In the next few paragraphs he talks about the demonstrations and the four
steps in a nonviolent campaign which consist of collection of the facts to determine whether injustices
exist, negotiation, self purification and direct action. He goes on to give the facts of the injustices
occurring in Birmingham such as their record of brutality, Negro s unjust treatments in the courts and

The Necklace
Every single story in the entire world has character development in some form. In the story The
Necklace, written by Guy de Maupassant, Mathilde, a middle classed woman that has always wanted
to be wealthy, loses a necklace that was not hers. She does not tell the person that gave it to her and
this causes a lot of problems, including her having to get the money back. Mathilde ends up buying a
real diamond necklace not knowing that the necklace that she lost was only paste. Through these trials
of loss and stress, the author shows the real character of Mathilde. Authors use these trials to develop
the character. How doe Guy de Maupassant do it? He develops the character of Mathilde by showing
her comments, feelings, and general attitude for things.
Whenever the author shows Mathilde s comments, it develops her character. In the story it says And
that because of you when she is talking to Madame Forestier. The story also says What am I to do with
that? This evidence shows that Mathilde s character blames her troubles on other people and that she
is very sensitive. For example, Mathilde ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Some examples of delicacies could be caviar, escargot, or even pufferfish. I m sure everyone can
relate to what Mathilde is feeling because I m sure you can imagine yourself in a dress or a tuxedo
talking at a very expensive party and maybe wishing that that was your reality. This is why this story
is so popular, the author develops character and he makes this story is relatable for some people.

Examples Of Existentialism In Catch 22
Existential philosophy is found throughout Joseph Heller s novel Catch 22. This novel takes place
during the World War II and follows the stories and dilemmas of different characters. Heller
showcases his philosophy through certain characters beliefs and decisions. This integration creates the
ideal existential antihero in the character Yossarian. Characters such as Snowden, Yossarian, Nately,
the Chaplain, Hungry Joe, Milo, and an old man. Each of the characters listed reveal important
existential beliefs. It seems that throughout the novel, Heller applies basic human needs to each
character that follows the cycle of life. For instance Hungry Joe personifies sexual desire, Milo is
greed for success and capitalism, and the Chaplain as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Heller makes Yossarian struggle which creates the path for Yossarian s existential choice. Yossarian s
existential journey ends in chapter 40, titled Catch 22, when Colonel Cathcart and Colonel Korn try
and persuade Yossarian to either to choose moral corruption or court martial. Note that as an
archetypal anti hero, Yossarian initially accepts the men s deal and chooses moral corruption.
However, as the novel continues to the end of chapter 40, he has an ambush both physically and on
conscience when Nately s whore attacked him. This moment acts as symbolism. Nately s whore is his
conscience informing him about his guilt which causes him to change his mind. The last remaining
chapters provide a linear cycle of Yossarian s existential anti hero journey. First, Yossarian travels to
the Eternal City, in chapter 39. The city he visits is destroyed due to bombing. Homeless people run
around, crimes are being committed all around him, and moral corruption starts to set into the city.
Previously discussed, this Eternal City could represent the lower levels of hell, where crime and
corruption run rampant. This is Yossarian s lowest point, not for himself morally, but just to see what
life could really be like. Yossarian is then faced with the Catch 22 that Colonel Cathcart and Colonel
Korn offered. He initially chooses to save himself, but later refuses the offer for it isn t fair to his
friends who died. He then

Energy Security And Development Of Energy
1. Introduction
Energy is an essential material basis for human survival and development. As the world biggest
developing country, China s demand for energy will experience a steady increase with the
development of the economy . However, many problems are facing the energy security in rural China.
At the early state of energy shortage, state policy indicated that the rural energy needed to be self
reliance. Actually, rural energy is a buffer of China s energy system . With the development of the
China s economy, the government begun to realize the importance of energy security in rural China.
As the important sector of national energy policy, the energy development of the rural area is guided
by the sustainable energy strategy in China. Meanwhile, environmental issues were induced by
massive fossil energy consumption. Most of energy is generated by non renewable fossil resources in
China. These resources will be exhausted in the following couple of decades. Otherwise, the
environmental issues were also exposed, most of greenhouse gas and pollutants emission are
generated during the process of fossil energy production and use. Renewable energy resources, due to
their zero or near zero emissions of GHGs and air pollutants, are progressively becoming a greater
part of the global energy sector . In the national level, Chinese government planned non fossil fuel
energy to reach 11.4 percent and 15 percent of the total energy consumption by 2015 and 2020 .

The Impact Of Technology On The Field Of Defence
The evolution of technology has made the life easier .However, the complete result can be achieved
only when technology is made the best use of it.Technology is not only used in the IT industries but, it
has become the part and parcel of everybody s life. In 21st century, this can be realized through the
way we are using technology. We have mobile applications which is almost able to do everything that
we ask for. We can pay our bills online, book a flight ticket, take online classes anywhere in the world,
talk to friends and family from long distances etc.
So then, how can we make use of this vast technology in the field of defence? Every nation in the
world depends on the sophisticated defence equipments for their own protective measures. The history
of collaboration of technology in defence is not too new. Nations like USA, UK, CHINA, ISRALE
and INDIA have been successful to develop some of the useful equipments using technology
.However, it is pleasing to see that, no nation has been using it for the destructive purposes until and
unless they have been forced to do so. This paper focuses on bringing the examples of such modern
equipments which are built using some of the great technologies.
Innovations of Tech in militaries and their scope

China
Executive Summary:
In 1992, Samsung Electronics adopted the form of a wholly owned subsidiary as the entry mode into
China. It s entry into China was in order to maintain growth due to the tough competition in Korea.
China was selected in order to take advantage of its low wages for the mass production of low to
medium priced products. The initial manufacturing ground was at Tianjin due to its costal location
hence making it easy to export abroad and to major locations in China. The original focus of

After a decade of rapid economic growth, in 1997 many South East Asian countries were subject to a
catastrophic economic crisis. The problems endured involved both immediate crisis management in
unstable financial markets and the medium term restructuring and repositioning of their economies in
the face of intensified export competition.
South Korea had a large current account deficit and the maintenance of pegged exchange rates
encouraged external borrowing and led to excessive exposure to foreign exchange risk in both the
financial and corporate sectors. Economists have advanced the impact of Mainland
China on the real economy as a contributing factor to the crisis.
China had begun to compete effectively with other Asian exporters particularly in the 1990s after the
implementation of a number of export oriented reforms. Western importers sought cheaper
manufacturers and found them, indeed, in China whose currency was depreciated relative to the dollar.
The report will address the corporate re alignment by Samsung in order to ride out the economic

Laser Surgery Research Paper
A Few Things To Know About Having Laser Surgery On Your Cataracts
If you have cataracts, you may be able to put up with cloudy vision for a few years, but eventually,
you ll probably need surgery to remove the cataracts and improve your vision. That s because
cataracts continue to grow and your vision gets progressively worse over the years. At some point,
your vision may become so impaired you have difficulty driving at night, or you may increase your
risk of falling. Cataract surgery is very common and it is a relatively safe procedure. It is even being
done with lasers now, which lowers the risks further. Here are a few things to know about having your
cataracts removed with a laser.

Laser surgery is no different. Of course, if you want to have laser surgery, you need to make sure the
doctor you choose has necessary laser device, computer, and software system in the office, because
many doctors still do the procedure by hand. If you have cataracts in both eyes, you ll probably only
have one eye done at a time since your vision may be blurry for a few days. Your eyes will be dilated
and numbed with medication before the doctor begins, and you ll probably go home with an eye patch.
During the surgery, your doctor may be able to insert a new lens that corrects any vision problems you
have such as being farsighted or nearsighted. Then, once you ve healed from your surgery, the
cloudiness will be gone and your vision might be improved enough to allow you to go without glasses.
Deciding on the right time to have the laser surgery depends on different variables. If your cataracts
grow slowly, you may be able to put off the surgery for a long time. However, it isn t worth
postponing the procedure if your vision is impaired to the point where it affects your quality of

more and more about human nature as Marlow, Captain Willard, go farther and farther up the river in
search of Kurtz. An evil side lies within every man, but this evil remains repressed by society. When
moving up the river and farther away from civilization, the evil side begins to break out. Whenever
basically different cultures meet we are led to discover ourselves and can even drive us to perceived

Similar events occur in Francis Coppola s Apocalypse Now, Captain Willard pushes farther up the
river where the solitude from society and the destruction of war tamper with human nature. During the
opening scene, Willard is shown in despair, going from America to war and back was too much for
him to handle. He moved back to Saigon hoping to find himself. However he does not know his own
true self until he discovers Colonel Kurtz s true nature. Throughout the movie, new characters are
introduced showing differences in human nature due to the effects of war. For instance the helicopter
commander no longer cares for human life anymore; he finds it all right to surf while his men are
being killed. He is hardened by the war, meaning he shows no fear. Contrary to that the Chef lives in
almost constant fear. With the river and surroundings becoming more and more uncivilized with every
mile, he grows more and more afraid. Afraid for his life, afraid he should have joined the navy. Most
human beings or at least Americans believe that the most technologically advanced races are the best.
Yet a patrol boat armed to the teeth can not do anything against a few villagers with spears and arrows.
When the chief of the boat dies from a spear, Captain Willard s eyes are opened to the horror he finds
himself trapped in. Just as Marlow s eyes were opened to the same horror when a

The Coastal Plains of Texas is a large area that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to beyond the Rio
Grande. This region can be divided into 5 distinct areas.
PINE BELT:
It extends 75 to 125 miles into Texas from the east and from north to south from the Red River to
about 25 miles of the Gulf Coast. The Pine Belt is practically the source of all Texas timber
production. Lumber is the principle industry. The climate is good for a variety of fruits and vegetables.
A great oil field discovered in 1931 contributed to the economic growth of the area.
BLACKLAND BELT:
This area stretches from the Rio Grande to the Red River. This area runs through the DFW
metropolitan area. This area is also the most populated with the strongest diversified manufacturing
industry of the state.
COASTAL PRAIRIES:

The Space Race Continuity And Change
Walking, that s the original mode of transportation. The only things that could be moved are the things
that can be carried and the furthest part of the world was the furthest part a human could walk to. Then
came sailboats and wheels and the world was drastically changed forever. Everything changed. No
one could walk on water so sailboats were the first things used to travel the rest of the world. There
was more land and more water than anyone man could walk to. Sailboats helped with that. When
someone arrives in those places how is he or she supposed to carry everything? That is when the
wheel became so important. People had carriages and wagons and animals to pull those things which

During the late 50s and early 60s the United States was falling behind in this race, but it wasn t over.
The next task was to be able to send groups of people into space together on one ship. This initiated
the Voskhod and Gemini programs, Voskhod in the Soviet Union and Gemini in the United States. In
the Soviets case there was not much changed from the Vostok craft except for the fact that they could
fit 2 or 3 people on the craft. The Soviet Union only did two manned flights with the Voskhod
program and left it; one flight in 64 and one in 65. The United States had completely changed from
their original Mercury program though. It had a new design and the new design retained the conical,
nickel alloy walls and fiberglass ablative heat shield of Mercury, it also made use of new features such
as translations control thrusters to alter orbit, hydrogen/oxygen fuel cells to generate electricity, a
radar system to allow rendezvous with other craft, and avionics that could withstand depressurization
(Universe Today). These missions whether one manned or not all helped paved the way to the final lap
in the race to space. The United States and the Soviet Union each wanted to be the first to put a man
on the moon; thus the start of the Soyuz and Apollo programs. For the UNITED States and NASA the
Apollo missions started in 1961, but the first flight was in 1967 after they concluded with all the
Gemini missions. The first ever Apollo flight ended in tragedy with an electrical fire starting and the
capsule was destroyed killing the three people on board of the spacecraft. Many unmanned trials went
about until finally the second manned trial by NASA in December 1968 with the Apollo 8 flight.

Play Station Vs Xbox Essay
Despite bearing some superficial similarities, the differences between Xbox and Play Station are clear.
The revolutionary debate between the two systems has become extraordinary. Deciding about which
one to choose comes with the decision of the cost, the online gameplay, and the design of the system.
Determining the cost of what you would like to spend on a system is very difficult. Because you do
want the one that has the best gameplay and visual appeals, right? Which games are better may
ultimately come down to the types of titles you like to play, though, so there is always room for
debate. (Digital Trends Website) The cost of games for every system are the same, but as far as the

Learning Goals For Students Is A Taxing Task, But It Is...
Planning a curriculum that meets the need of students can be a taxing task, but it is necessary for
student success. Creating a cohesive unit entails breaking down the standards and developing essential
questions that will drive student learning and understanding. In addition to breaking down the
standards, it is important to set clear learning goals for students so they are able to accomplish the
learning set in the standards. The best way to set clear learning goals for students is to use the
Backwards Planning Model and be clear on the standards that will be taught. Carol Ann Tomlinson
and Jay McTighe (2006) believe the deliberate use of the backward design for planning courses, units,
and individual lessons results in more appropriate assessments and more purposeful teaching (p. 27).
When we as teachers know where our students are going, we can convey that information to them in a
way that meets their learning needs. A clear understanding of the standards brought on by backwards
planning will lead to clear learning goals for students.
Importance of Identifying and Communicating Learning Goals In order for students to gain the
learning needed to be successful in the classroom, learning goals must be translated in a way that is
clear and transferable. Students learn best when they know where they are going. McTighe (2010)
explains the most successful teaching begins with clarity about important learning outcomes and about
the evidence that will show

The New Structural Social Work As A Social Innovation
Social work contemplates establishing social justice through social transformation, and social
transformation, in many cases, leads to an innovation, especially social innovation. The purpose of
this paper is to explore whether The New Structural Social Work (Mullaly, B., 2007) can be
considered an innovation. The origin of social work is traced back to the end of the nineteenth century,
when the Charity Organization Society movement began in 1877 in the United States of America, and
the Settlement House movement started in 1884 in England. In both the cases, rapid industrialization,
urbanization (Mullaly, B., 2007), and mass immigration contributed to escalating people s plight due
to oppressions resulting unemployment, destitution, hardship, begging, and crimes. Social system was
dominated by power, and resource distribution was unidirectional. A group of people from the higher
strata of the society (Mullay, B. 2007) came forward to address people s plight based on individual
cases. The primary focus of the then social work, later known as conventional social work, was
individuals (Mullay, B. 2007) instead of social system. The intertwined relationships between
individuals and the social system were totally ignored or unapprehended (Mullay, B. 2007). The
conventional social work, thus, can be characterized (Carniol, B. 1992) as follows: 01. The
conventional social work is mainly based on advocacy and support focusing upon individuals

Decisions that Determine the Success of a Business
Starting a business and keeping it going is a difficult, competitive, and strategic process that helps
make a business successful. A business success can be valued on how much profit a business makes.

Qualities needed in business are determination, math, good decision making skills, and many other

a business include location, budget, choosing what industry you should go into which is based on
demographics and what is best suited for your city. These and many other decisions determine the
success of a business. There are many steps to starting a business. You should make a record of your
competition. This means checking how they advertise, how much they charge, and how successful
they are. You can use these to be more successful than them. You should also make a marketing plan.
A marketing plan is deciding how you will run your business. These include figuring out your cost for

Analysis Of Beuys s The Pursuit Of A Social Art
Beuys work revolved around an interaction with his audience in the pursuit of a social art. Beuys
defined social sculpture as how we mould and shape the world in which we live. This is not too
dissimilar from Lefebvre nations of social space. It is within this context which he makes his famous
claim, everyone is an artist. Here he envisioned an art form, in which society could be regarded as one
great work of art, (an interpretation of the Wagnerian Gesamtkunstwerk) to which each person can
contribute creatively. He viewed the art he made as being a stimulant for the transformation of the idea
of sculpture. They should provoke thoughts about what sculpture can be and how the concept of
sculpting can be extended to the invisible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was during the 1960s that Beuys theoretical thought about the social, cultural and political function
of art manifested in to a physical work. Perhaps one of his most seminal works, 7000 oaks,
exemplified his belief that art could take on a form which was defined as both interdisciplinary and
participatory. Beuys placed a pile of stones in the town Kassel, Germany. From above one could see
that this pile of stones created an arrow, which pointed toward a single oak tree. He stated that the
stones should not be moved unless an oak tree was planted in the new location of the stone, over the
course of several years 7,000 oak trees were then planted by people of the town. R
This notion of a social, participatory art form can also be seen in the writing of Nicolas Bourriaud,
who wrote why wouldn t the meaning of a work have as much to do with the use one makes of it as
with the artists intentions for it. With both social sculpture and architecture, as with physical
architecture, a dialogue exists between use and structure. To a certain degree structure determines use
and yet use also effects structure. Use is both constructive and destructive, it manipulates and
transforms object to its needs. Contemplation the way in which art would traditionally be experienced,
is neither constructive or

Strategies for Resolving Team Conflict
Running head: STRATEGIES FOR RESOLVING TEAM CONFLICT
Strategies for Resolving Team Conflict
Strategies for Resolving Team Conflict
Dealing with conflict is always a challenging situation, which requires team members to be integrated
into a single, organized unit (Bolger, 2003). Conflict among teams is bound to occur no matter how
much one tries to avoid it. While resolving all conflicts is not possible, these conflicts can be dealt
with using the correct methodology. To address team conflict there are five methods: Accommodate,
Compromise, Enforce, Explore, and Postpone (Bolger, 2003).
Accommodation Bases for using the accommodation strategy occurs when working together to
accomplish goals are far more important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Choosing this strategy may be best in a situation where heightened emotions, around a given issue, are
making it impossible to have a rational conversation. Another option is to postpone a discussion when
all the information required is unknown or if the issue may resolve itself over time. The downside to
using this strategy too often occurs when the team interprets these actions as either running away or
avoiding conflict. It should also be recognized that delaying an important conflict to long will, in
many cases, evolve into a much larger issue or important decisions may be made by default (Fisher,
1991).
Conclusion When choosing a strategy to resolve team conflict, it is essential to consider the
importance and urgency of the issue involved. Guard against the tendency of using only one or two
resolution strategies, because such a habit will cause undesirable results (Bolger, 2003). By
understanding that each strategy does have a unique purpose; it is then up to team leadership to
understand the proper application of said strategy and use them to gain optimal performance from
their teams.

2007, p. 744). Because of the characteristics of the services provided such as comfort level offered
(i.e. home delivery), customers tend to be loyal and stay longer with the program.
Company: Lite n Easy, an Australian owned company, has been providing their services for over
15 years. Owner, Graham Mitchell designed a weight loss program in which customers have the
conveniences of healthy, home delivered meals. As part of the weight loss program, Lite n Easy offers
personal fitness and dietician counselling to their customers. According to Lite n Easy, the
combination of superb quality food, great value for money and the convenience of having everything
done for you and delivered to your door (Lite n Easy, 2007) is the source of their success.
Competitors: Competitors are other organizations either offering or with considerable potential for
offering rival products or services (Bartol, Tein, Matthews, Ritson, Scott Ladd, 2006, p. 496). The
weight loss industry is competitive, however only Lite n Easy offers home delivery, which
differentiates it from other leading competitors. Of the many competitors, Jenny Craig is the main
market competitor due to their similarities in weight loss program and limited delivery areas.

James Madison and the Federalist Papers
On September 17, 1787, the Philadelphia Convention sent their new constitution to the states for
ratification. The Federalists highly approved of the Constitution because it allowed for a more central
and powerful government that was previously undermined under the Articles of Confederation. The
Anti Federalists, however, didn t want a powerful central government, but, instead, powerful state
governments; in response to the Constitution, many Anti Federalists began writing essays and creating
pamphlets as a means of arguing against it. In retaliation to the Anti Federalists attempt at getting
states to not ratify the Constitution, many Federalists developed a group of essays known as the
Federalist Papers, which argued for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, Madison reasons that the public would fair better if the public voice [was] pronounced by
the representatives of the people, rather that by the people themselves. This reasoning leads to
Madison s next difference between a republic and a democracy, which states that a republic will be
able to be extended to a greater number of citizens, and greater sphere of country. With a republic,
everyone is represented in the Congress, where as in a democracy, only certain factions, as Madison
calls them, are represented. A republic, like said above, doesn t have these factions, and Madison again
reasons that the fewer the distinct parties and interests, the more frequently will a majority be found of
the same party. The new system of government outlined in the Constitution had allotted provisions so
the number of representatives in the legislative body would not be proportion to that of the
constituents, as suggested in the New Jersey Plan. Madison advocated this system of government
because it would guard against the cabals of a few and the confusion of a multitude. The republic
would be large enough so that the power of the legislation wouldn t be placed in the hands of a few
(oligarchy), but not large enough that Congress wouldn t be able to pass any laws because there are so
many opinions. Madison s blatant examples of the advantages a republic has over a democracy also
call into questions his

Gender Equality And Gender Differences Of The Play Top...
The plays Top Girls and A Streetcar Named Desire are written in ways that explore the issues
surrounding gender equality and gender differences. Churchill explores the ideas of a feminist utopia
where the men and women live in separate spheres which are prescribed to suit the stereotypical roles
of the genders. For example at this time power dressing was a real strategy used by the new breed of
feminists struggling for identity in society. We learn about the relationship between women and
working. However, Williams s characters in A StreetCar Named Desire crucially succumb to the
prescribed gender roles where the women are expected to be meekly obedient in a patriarchal society
ruled by the opposite sex.
Top Girls is set in the early 1980 s, and mainly plays with two main concerns travelling around the
1980 s feminism and socialism. We unravel a great number of ideas within the novel that mirror the
characters rejection of their gender roles. The theme in Top Girls is mostly addressing the ideologies
around feminism at a significant time. This is portrayed in a direct manner and tone which veer from
bizarre and dreamlike to mundane and give us an insight of the contemporary events going on outside
of the play. The time this play was written holds high importance as it was the time of power dressing
and was a real up lift for women struggling for identity in modern society.
Churchill portrays the central protagonist Marlene as representing the rise of women s

Disaster and Emergency Management Essay
In a new form of protection and communication, social media is the main thing that everything is
using in today s times. Marketing employees have positions as titled as social media directors.
Companies have people watching and monitoring everything that happens with their social media
reputation all hours of the day everyday. Young people are seeing the power of social media everyday
with teachers demonstrating how fast a picture can be shared across the world. Social media is
relatively new and could possibly open many gates for communication. This depends heavily on who
is publishing information and news on social media. If news spreads fast on social media, then the use
of it can be used for emergencies. If many people are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We now have the option to be connected permanently to our social media sites on our phone. We can
check into Foursquare so that our friends know where we are at all times. We can see where our
family and friends are and know what they are doing on Facebook. Social media is one of the largest
sources of information. People read headline news from their selected sites. Social media can be a
great tool for everyone to use as well as something that can come with faults.
CNA, a research facility, partnered with the National Emergency Management Association to provide
research and information on the public s expectations about emergency management s use of social
media. Before this research, the data about this connection was only done with case studies and
unreliable accounts. CAN used a survey in this research to see how people felt about social media in
connection with emergency management. The results found an positive approach. Many people in
emergency management agencies, on local and national levels are very familiar with social media. It is
usually the larger websites that are more widely known. Sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, are
widely known and publicized. There are however many other social media sites that are not as widely
known that are even more useful to nationwide security and communication such as crowdsourcing
and Nixle and these are not as widely known (Su, Wardell, Throkidsen, 2013). So while people in

Rhetorical Analysis Of Robert F. Kennedy s Speech
Robert F. Kennedy was one of the many presidents that aided the Civil Rights Movement to stop racial
segregation. Many of our former presidents have given inspiring speeches, but no speech was as awe
inspiring as the Remarks on the Assassination of Martin Luther King. The event that brought Kennedy
to speak was MLK being shot that night in Memphis, Tennessee. Using emotional tactics, President
Kennedy addressed the public, educating them on the direction the United States was headed, as well
as, how to deal with racial conflict.
Though one of the nation s most influential civil rights activists, Martin Luther King, had been killed,
the country has chosen to love one another and feel a sense of empathy for those who suffer. Robert F.
Kennedy addressed the public that Martin Luther King Jr. had been assassinated in Memphis,
Tennessee (Kennedy 1). He stated that the United States could head in two directions, one being of
segregation. Another being, they can have compassion toward each other, and a feeling of empathy
towards those who still suffered within the country, whether they be black ... Show more content on

Kennedy uses the phrase in this country multiple times in the speech. We can do well in this country.
We will have difficult times. We ve had difficult times in the past, but we and we will have difficult

disorder (Kennedy 2). ...the vast majority of black people in this country want to live together, want to
improve the quality of our life... (Kennedy 2). He emphasizes in this country because at the time in the
United States, African Americans had just experienced a loss of somebody who loved them. African
Americans also feel a loss of hope because Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights activist and could

Columbine Quote Analysis
Why They Did It While reading Columbine, the only thing readers can ask themselves is, Why did
they do this? The only thing a reader can do is make his/her assumption based off of the facts given
throughout the book as it is not clearly stated. By reading the book, it is very easy to assume that both
Eric and Dylan were depressed and did not feel like they were treated fairly. Eric was the more violent
of the two, although both had significant dealings with the shootings taken place. Their illnesses
brought them together, making them feel as if they clicked or understood each other more than anyone
else. Dylan is very easily identified as the most depressed of the two. In chapter thirty five, Dylan
stated just how depressed he was. I get more depressed with each day, he complained. Why did friends
keep deserting him? They did not, actually, but Dylan perceived it that way. He fretted about Eric
dumping him, too. Wanna die, he repeated. (page 198) Dylan felt as if he was all alone and death
equaled freedom to him now. Dylan was not worried about anyone but himself and how he felt. His
depression had consumed his thoughts and made him think of the unimaginable. This very well could
have been the reason Dylan was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His psychopathic ways showed through the tragedy of the shooting at Columbine. Eric is easily
percepted as the mastermind of the Columbine shooting. In chapter forty eight, it explains how we can
infer this by his planner. Each killer left hundreds of pages of writings and drawings and schedules in
their day planners, and Eric s are riddled with plans, logs, and results of experiments; Dylan shows
virtually no effort. Eric acquired the guns, the ammo, and apparently the material for the bombs, and
did the planning and the construction. (page 305) Eric was taken as a psychopath for his violent ways
and how he wrote in his journal. He detailed the murders out vividly and talked aggressively

The Interior Design Of A Dispersed Hotel
INTRODUCTION:
When being assigned within a team responsible for the interior design of a dispersed hotel, it is of vital
importance to identify all legal issues, which may become present within the scenario. Then to
furthermore, to achieve this, the IRAC approach to reach a solution and conclusion, which will be in
favour of all parties involved.
SCENARIO A, QUESTION 1:
Our client (proprietor of the hotel) has come forward to our team with questions raised over the
selection of flooring material, which has been suggested to be used within the hotel s reception area.
They wish to know whether it is possible for them to be pardoned from the potential of liability via
them assembling large signs which provide guests to the common areas ... Show more content on

Similar to Latimer v. AEC [1953] AC 643, the proprietor would not be held accountable for beach of
duty as they had provided sufficient signage for the patrons of the hotel, warning them of the potential
hazard.
ANALYSIS/APPLICATION:
By providing signage, the guest has notified the visitors of the potential risk, which may occur within
common areas of the hotel. Thus guests of the hotel have been informed and should approach the
situation and act within an appropriate manner as to not sustain any injury or loss.
CONCLUSION:
As in Australian Safeway Stores Pty Ltd [1987] 162 CLR 479, it would appear that if injury occurred
the proprietor would be liable to beach of duty of care, unless, he had placed appropriate signage.
Therefore in this case, the proprietor would not be held accountable to injuries sustained.
SCENARIO A, QUESTION 2:
A material selected for the common area, which my team recommended, has caused a guest of the
hotel to sustain injuries caused by slippage. Are we now liable to compensate for the injured guest, as
my team selected the material? Would the outcome of the matter differ in anyway if the material
selected complied with Australian Standards?
ISSUES:
Is there a relationship between my team as the designer and the guests entering the hotel, therefore
care of duty?
Has duty of care been breached?
Has my team as registered and qualified designers failed to successfully acquire the appropriate level
of care owed to the injured party?

Teachers and Students -Roles and Relationships
The student teacher establishes a routine that students understand and respect. Activities reflect careful
thought, take into account student developmental levels, learning styles and diversity, and create
situations in which students construct knowledge. The student teacher exhibits respect and
consideration toward colleagues, particularly in team situations, supports colleagues work and
contributes an equal share to team efforts, The student teacher encourages and elicits interaction with
parents and community and makes herself available to those constituencies when and where
appropriate. She clearly demonstrates leadership in the classroom, guiding and directing activities and

This worksheet demonstrates another way I asked my students to construct knowledge; by examining
a document (in this case a difficult, non narrative poem) for its details, to try to sum those details to
meaning (comprehension) and to try to figure out how the student knew how to sum those details
(metacognition). While the practical, classroom end of this worksheet was a brainstorm regarding the
details of the poem and an increasingly specific investigation of the diversity of potential meanings in
the poem, by allowing my students to write before speaking to gather their thoughts and ideas before
even a spoken brainstorm I allowed each of my students to feel as though they had something to
contribute to the class and to the classes construction of a reading (or a series of readings!) of the
poem. Allowing students to chart the known, this activity ultimately allowed my students to make the
leap to charting a small section of ideas that were, before this activity, unknown. Before students can
trust each other enough to share their ideas and to construct knowledge with each other the teacher
must engage students in activities to foster classroom community. During Brown Summer High
School, my co teachers (Jen Fordyce and Jenny Morse) and I started each of our classes with what we
called an AGFA (an Attention Grabbing Focusing Activity) that had a twofold intent:

  • 2. The Metaphor Title of Sense and Sensibility Essay In this novel Jane Austen uses the title of the book itself as a metaphor to illustrate the differences between the two main characters, with Elinor to represent the sense and Marianne to represent the sensibility. Sense and sensibility also indicates a split division, polar opposites, and how these opposites compliment each other, as can be seen throughout the novel. The dominant theme in this novel is sense prevailing over sensibility. It is a theme which can be seen in most of the characters; however the concentration is on Elinor and Marianne, who are two sisters and are often perceived as polar opposites. Marianne tends to be viewed as the `sensibility and Elinor as the `sense . Jane Austen opens the novel with the girls father, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her good sense always prevails and guides her to act in an appropriate manner making impartial and reasonable decisions throughout the novel. This is apparent at the beginning of the novel when the girls lose their father and their half brother and his wife fanny move into Norland, leaving the Dashwood ladies with a meagre income. Marianne and her mother are so overcome with grief that the practical issues are left to Elinor, Jane Austen highlights this in chapter one. `So earnestly did she despise her daughter in law for it, that, on that on the arrival of the latter she would have quitted the house forever, had not the entreaty of her eldest girl induced her first to reflect on the propriety of going.. (pg 4) `Elinor, this eldest daughter whose advise was so effectual, possessed a strength of understanding, and coolness of judgement, which qualified her, though only nineteen, to be the counsellor of her mother.. (pg 4) Jane Austen shows us Marianne s over the top, melodramatic, romantic nature when she describes the departing from Norland. Although Elinor is saddened at having to leave, she quietly keeps it to herself. Marianne however, bursts into `poetry and exaggerates all that she says, `Oh! Happy house, could you know what I suffer in now viewing you from this spot, from whence perhaps I may view you no more! and you, ye well known trees! (Pg 23) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Silent Killers Summary Silent Killers A group in Mexico, called Global Ban Now, raised awareness of plastic in the ocean in their video Silent Killers. One fateful day, a member discovered a very sick and weak turtle off the coast of La Paz, Mexico. The poor thing was struggling to breathe, and it was teetering into death s hands. The turtle was brought to a local facility where they found out that the feverish marine animal had consumed a plastic bag, and was slowly starving because the bag was blocking her digestive tract. Luckily, the turtle was saved just in time, and in a couple of weeks, was released back to sea. Even though plastic bags are not the worst issue in our world, we should ban plastic bags because it is harmful to marine life and to our environment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Personally, I believe that Creon is the tragic hero. Creon has three big harmartias. Those three are: pride, stubbornness, and fear. Throughout the whole play, Creon is too busy worrying about what people think of him instead of thinking about family. Unfortunately, it was too late for Creon to change his mistakes. Creon s biggest hamartia is pride. After Creon finds out that Antigone buried her brother, he questions Antigone and Ismene. The comparison of observed and expected oak trees through a Poisson analysis will determine the actual dispersion of oaks. Therefore, the statistical hypothesis is, if the observed oak tree dispersion is equal to the expected distribution of oaks it will be determined through the Poisson function. 2. Protocol capture tools and protocol analyzers are important tools for an information systems security professional. These utilities can be used to troubleshoot issues on the network. They can verify adherence to corporate policies, such as whether or not clear text privacy data is being sent on the network. They can be used to test security countermeasures and firewall deployments and are needed to perform audits, security assessments, network baseline definitions, and identification of rogue IP devices. 7. What are some challenges to baseline analysis? Challenges to baseline analysis include simplifying the data for better analysis, dealing with large size packet capture files, and working with multiple tools to gain an accurate perspective on the network. It is important to know that base lining is not a one time task, but a regular part of network monitoring. 8. • 10. K-Protoping Essay 2.1 The k Prototypes Method Data clustering is a method used to group items into different clusters. The items in same cluster are similar and the items in different clusters are dissimilar. Huang (1998) introduced a k prototypes algorithm that allows for clustering objects with mixed numeric and categorical attributes. The k prototype algorithm can be used to cluster a large portfolio of the VA contracts with mixed numeric and categorical attributes. We define a large portfolio that contains n VA contracts as X=(x ⃑_1,x ⃑_2,x ⃑_3,...,x ⃑_n). We denote the ith contract in the portfolio as x ⃑_i. • 13. External Forces Of Darkness In Shakespeare s Play By... External forces of darkness Darkness is always associated with evil and to a certain extent deception. In our society, darkness tends to be the primary characteristic of evil. It is also associated with the supernatural, something Shakespeare uses a lot in his plays. William Shakespeare employs the imagery of darkness throughout his tragedy plays, although to different extents. He uses dark images often to describe the horrors and the evils the characters portray, and these intensified internal tragic flaws are typically the result of their own doom. Noticeably Shakespeare Likes to use supernatural effects to create eerie and unsettling feelings amongst the audience and or readers. The forces of darkness of Shakespeare s tragic protagonists come from the idea that the characters themselves are the reason these bad things happen to them, because they cannot control their internal tragic flaws which overall in the end turns into evil. This however makes the characters so fascinating to watch. The external forces of darkness are an aspect of these four tragedies that do play an important role in the plays. The understanding I got from this connection was that instead of blaming their weaknesses on themselves the protagonists blamed forces of darkness for their own issues. Although this evilness was there it wasn t the root cause of the characters going out of control. It showed me that people are always going to find any way to take the blame off themselves and put it on others because it is one of the best coping mechanism. The fall of the characters are triggered by external darkness. External darkness comes within a character from evil forces. And it seems the protagonists blame their own internal flaws on this external evil. The characters are driven by this darkness to create devastation inside the play. For example, Hamlet s death is the end of an external wickedness which follows him throughout the plays. And like the death of King Lear s beloved daughter Cordelia we see that force of darkness become overwhelming. Macbeths external force of darkness ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Business Intelligence Balanced Scorecard product by Medstreaming Inc Abstract This paper highlights viability of having a new product offering by Medstreaming Company namely a Business Intelligence Balanced Scorecard specifically designed for the healthcare sector. Focus of the study is on identifying the appropriate measurement metrics for the balanced scorecard. The project has added knowledge to the critical issues which need to be addressed by the healthcare organizations in implementing the Business Intelligence Balanced Scorecard product within the system. This project also discusses the benefits which the proposed business intelligence tool once implemented in a healthcare organization can provide for all hierarchical levels of the organization. Introduction Research studies indicate that a good proportion of adverse safety events can be prevented in hospitals globally by deploying effective business intelligence tools which can capture the reasons for occurrence of such events in a quantitative manner. It has been reported that approximately 70,000 healthcare mishaps within the operational domain of the leading hospitals within Canada could have been avoided by using appropriate metrics (Ferrand and Amyot, 2010). Besides safety aspect, it has been seen that with growing corporatization of the healthcare sector, the enterprises operational management is being induced to maximize the returns from the available resources (both man and material). • 16. How Organizations are Changing in the World Today The natural forces that bring companies together are dissipating in the communications and information technologies industries. Core competencies that form much of the force of economies of scope are becoming increasingly narrowed and specialized, leading us to industry fragmentation in the information revolution contrasting against the industry consolidation that accompanied the industrial revolution. If we look behind the curtain of public policy dressed in its diverse laws and regulations, we see less rather than more gravity drawing the communications industry into operational or financial consolidation. Neither vertical nor horizontal integration of communications related businesses appears compellingly natural. The rate of technological advancements (and apparent lack of economies of scale that such behemoths as Bell Labs once enjoyed) allows industry giants to be toppled at unprecedented rates. Instead we see a growing value in cooperatively developed integrative standards that will marry such distant cousins as content to conduit, computing to transportation, appliance functionality to communications. Thus, consolidation of firms has greater value in its portfolio effect than in economies of scope and scale (the uncertainty of just which information and communications products will be successful carries risks that can be mitigated by having a portfolio of such products). The present rate of technological change in the information and communications industries also ... Creating a cohesive unit entails breaking down the standards and developing essential questions that will drive student learning and understanding. In addition to breaking down the standards, it is important to set clear learning goals for students so they are able to accomplish the learning set in the standards. The best way to set clear learning goals for students is to use the Backwards Planning Model and be clear on the standards that will be taught. • 37. Analysis Of Beuys s The Pursuit Of A Social Art Beuys work revolved around an interaction with his audience in the pursuit of a social art. Beuys defined social sculpture as how we mould and shape the world in which we live. This is not too dissimilar from Lefebvre nations of social space. It is within this context which he makes his famous claim, everyone is an artist. Here he envisioned an art form, in which society could be regarded as one great work of art, (an interpretation of the Wagnerian Gesamtkunstwerk) to which each person can contribute creatively. He viewed the art he made as being a stimulant for the transformation of the idea of sculpture. They should provoke thoughts about what sculpture can be and how the concept of sculpting can be extended to the invisible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was during the 1960s that Beuys theoretical thought about the social, cultural and political function of art manifested in to a physical work. Perhaps one of his most seminal works, 7000 oaks, exemplified his belief that art could take on a form which was defined as both interdisciplinary and participatory. Beuys placed a pile of stones in the town Kassel, Germany. From above one could see that this pile of stones created an arrow, which pointed toward a single oak tree. He stated that the stones should not be moved unless an oak tree was planted in the new location of the stone, over the course of several years 7,000 oak trees were then planted by people of the town. R This notion of a social, participatory art form can also be seen in the writing of Nicolas Bourriaud, who wrote why wouldn t the meaning of a work have as much to do with the use one makes of it as with the artists intentions for it. With both social sculpture and architecture, as with physical architecture, a dialogue exists between use and structure. To a certain degree structure determines use and yet use also effects structure. Use is both constructive and destructive, it manipulates and transforms object to its needs. Contemplation the way in which art would traditionally be experienced, is neither constructive or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Strategies for Resolving Team Conflict Running head: STRATEGIES FOR RESOLVING TEAM CONFLICT Strategies for Resolving Team Conflict Strategies for Resolving Team Conflict Dealing with conflict is always a challenging situation, which requires team members to be integrated into a single, organized unit (Bolger, 2003). Conflict among teams is bound to occur no matter how much one tries to avoid it. While resolving all conflicts is not possible, these conflicts can be dealt with using the correct methodology. To address team conflict there are five methods: Accommodate, Compromise, Enforce, Explore, and Postpone (Bolger, 2003). Accommodation Bases for using the accommodation strategy occurs when working together to accomplish goals are far more important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Choosing this strategy may be best in a situation where heightened emotions, around a given issue, are making it impossible to have a rational conversation. Another option is to postpone a discussion when all the information required is unknown or if the issue may resolve itself over time. The downside to using this strategy too often occurs when the team interprets these actions as either running away or avoiding conflict. It should also be recognized that delaying an important conflict to long will, in many cases, evolve into a much larger issue or important decisions may be made by default (Fisher, 1991). Conclusion When choosing a strategy to resolve team conflict, it is essential to consider the importance and urgency of the issue involved. Guard against the tendency of using only one or two resolution strategies, because such a habit will cause undesirable results (Bolger, 2003). By understanding that each strategy does have a unique purpose; it is then up to team leadership to understand the proper application of said strategy and use them to gain optimal performance from their teams. The Federalists highly approved of the Constitution because it allowed for a more central and powerful government that was previously undermined under the Articles of Confederation. The Anti Federalists, however, didn t want a powerful central government, but, instead, powerful state governments; in response to the Constitution, many Anti Federalists began writing essays and creating pamphlets as a means of arguing against it. In retaliation to the Anti Federalists attempt at getting states to not ratify the Constitution, many Federalists developed a group of essays known as the Federalist Papers, which argued for the ... In addition, Madison reasons that the public would fair better if the public voice [was] pronounced by the representatives of the people, rather that by the people themselves. This reasoning leads to Madison s next difference between a republic and a democracy, which states that a republic will be able to be extended to a greater number of citizens, and greater sphere of country. With a republic, everyone is represented in the Congress, where as in a democracy, only certain factions, as Madison calls them, are represented. A republic, like said above, doesn t have these factions, and Madison again reasons that the fewer the distinct parties and interests, the more frequently will a majority be found of the same party. The new system of government outlined in the Constitution had allotted provisions so the number of representatives in the legislative body would not be proportion to that of the constituents, as suggested in the New Jersey Plan. Madison advocated this system of government because it would guard against the cabals of a few and the confusion of a multitude. The republic would be large enough so that the power of the legislation wouldn t be placed in the hands of a few (oligarchy), but not large enough that Congress wouldn t be able to pass any laws because there are so many opinions. Madison s blatant examples of the advantages a republic has over a democracy also call into questions his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Gender Equality And Gender Differences Of The Play Top... The plays Top Girls and A Streetcar Named Desire are written in ways that explore the issues surrounding gender equality and gender differences. Churchill explores the ideas of a feminist utopia where the men and women live in separate spheres which are prescribed to suit the stereotypical roles of the genders. For example at this time power dressing was a real strategy used by the new breed of feminists struggling for identity in society. We learn about the relationship between women and working. However, Williams s characters in A StreetCar Named Desire crucially succumb to the prescribed gender roles where the women are expected to be meekly obedient in a patriarchal society ruled by the opposite sex. Top Girls is set in the early 1980 s, and mainly plays with two main concerns travelling around the 1980 s feminism and socialism. We unravel a great number of ideas within the novel that mirror the characters rejection of their gender roles. The theme in Top Girls is mostly addressing the ideologies around feminism at a significant time. This is portrayed in a direct manner and tone which veer from bizarre and dreamlike to mundane and give us an insight of the contemporary events going on outside of the play. The time this play was written holds high importance as it was the time of power dressing and was a real up lift for women struggling for identity in modern society. Churchill portrays the central protagonist Marlene as representing the rise of women s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Rhetorical Analysis Of Robert F. Kennedy s Speech Robert F. Kennedy was one of the many presidents that aided the Civil Rights Movement to stop racial segregation. Many of our former presidents have given inspiring speeches, but no speech was as awe inspiring as the Remarks on the Assassination of Martin Luther King. The event that brought Kennedy to speak was MLK being shot that night in Memphis, Tennessee. Using emotional tactics, President Kennedy addressed the public, educating them on the direction the United States was headed, as well as, how to deal with racial conflict. Though one of the nation s most influential civil rights activists, Martin Luther King, had been killed, the country has chosen to love one another and feel a sense of empathy for those who suffer. Robert F. Kennedy addressed the public that Martin Luther King Jr. had been assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee (Kennedy 1). The only thing a reader can do is make his/her assumption based off of the facts given throughout the book as it is not clearly stated. By reading the book, it is very easy to assume that both Eric and Dylan were depressed and did not feel like they were treated fairly. Eric was the more violent of the two, although both had significant dealings with the shootings taken place. Their illnesses brought them together, making them feel as if they clicked or understood each other more than anyone else. Dylan is very easily identified as the most depressed of the two. In chapter thirty five, Dylan stated just how depressed he was. I get more depressed with each day, he complained. Why did friends keep deserting him? They did not, actually, but Dylan perceived it that way. He fretted about Eric dumping him, too. Wanna die, he repeated. (page 198) Dylan felt as if he was all alone and death equaled freedom to him now. Dylan was not worried about anyone but himself and how he felt. The Interior Design Of A Dispersed Hotel INTRODUCTION: When being assigned within a team responsible for the interior design of a dispersed hotel, it is of vital importance to identify all legal issues, which may become present within the scenario. Then to furthermore, to achieve this, the IRAC approach to reach a solution and conclusion, which will be in favour of all parties involved. SCENARIO A, QUESTION 1: Our client (proprietor of the hotel) has come forward to our team with questions raised over the selection of flooring material, which has been suggested to be used within the hotel s reception area. They wish to know whether it is possible for them to be pardoned from the potential of liability via them assembling large signs which provide guests to the common areas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similar to Latimer v. AEC [1953] AC 643, the proprietor would not be held accountable for beach of duty as they had provided sufficient signage for the patrons of the hotel, warning them of the potential hazard. ANALYSIS/APPLICATION: By providing signage, the guest has notified the visitors of the potential risk, which may occur within common areas of the hotel. Thus guests of the hotel have been informed and should approach the situation and act within an appropriate manner as to not sustain any injury or loss. CONCLUSION: As in Australian Safeway Stores Pty Ltd [1987] 162 CLR 479, it would appear that if injury occurred the proprietor would be liable to beach of duty of care, unless, he had placed appropriate signage. Therefore in this case, the proprietor would not be held accountable to injuries sustained. SCENARIO A, QUESTION 2: A material selected for the common area, which my team recommended, has caused a guest of the hotel to sustain injuries caused by slippage. Are we now liable to compensate for the injured guest, as my team selected the material? Would the outcome of the matter differ in anyway if the material selected complied with Australian Standards? ISSUES: Is there a relationship between my team as the designer and the guests entering the hotel, therefore care of duty? Has duty of care been breached? Has my team as registered and qualified designers failed to successfully acquire the appropriate level of care owed to the injured party?

This worksheet demonstrates another way I asked my students to construct knowledge; by examining a document (in this case a difficult, non narrative poem) for its details, to try to sum those details to meaning (comprehension) and to try to figure out how the student knew how to sum those details (metacognition). While the practical, classroom end of this worksheet was a brainstorm regarding the details of the poem and an increasingly specific investigation of the diversity of potential meanings in the poem, by allowing my students to write before speaking to gather their thoughts and ideas before even a spoken brainstorm I allowed each of my students to feel as though they had something to contribute to the class and to the classes construction of a reading (or a series of readings!) of the poem. Allowing students to chart the known, this activity ultimately allowed my students to make the leap to charting a small section of ideas that were, before this activity, unknown. Before students can trust each other enough to share their ideas and to construct knowledge with each other the teacher must engage students in activities to foster classroom community.
