Definition Essay On Open Relationships
Have you found yourself asking, What is an open relationship or Are we in an open relationship? If so,
hopefully it isn t because you agreed to such a relationship without understanding what it really
means.
If you and your partner want to have a successful relationship (open or not), it s absolutely critical to
have clarity on your expectations of each other. This is rarely more important than when committing
to a non traditional arrangement.
Okay... back to the question. What exactly does it mean to have a relationship that s open? The
complicated thing is that the term has different meanings to different people, so take a look at some of
these categories and come to a finite agreement with your partner on some open relationship rules. ...

A relationship like this may or may not include full disclosure. In some cases, the faithful partner
accepts that there will be outside relationships but doesn t want to discuss it at all.
Swinging
One of the more controversial types of open relationships is the swinger lifestyle. In an open
relationship that includes couples dating others, there is often a focus on togetherness in the affairs.
In some cases, the couple dates other couples; however, there are many cases where the couple adds a
single third party to the relationship. The primary relationship comes first, but both partners are open
to fully disclosed outside relationships. When this is strictly sexual, a third (or fourth or fifth or
whatever) person may simply be included on occasion.
Swinging exists in a variety of other forms as well. In some cases, there may be a multitude of people
committed to openly sharing each other while forsaking all outside parties.
Open Committed
The most important reason to ask your partner What is an open relationship to you, is that for some
people the term simply means keeping communication lines

The Potter Box Model Of Ethical Reasoning
While the journalism profession might appear to be as straightforward as black and white, there are a
handful of grey areas that raise ethical concerns. These areas can range from something as simple as
the correct attribution of information, to as complex as the controversial practice of native
advertisements. Journalists, however, have access to an abundance of resources, including multiple
sets of guidelines, which can help them make a difficult decision about an ethical dilemma. Whether
they are filing stories or creating media campaigns, journalists should consult these codes of ethics to
ensure that they are fulfilling their responsibility as watchdogs of society. Some of the more
commonly referred to guidelines include the Bok Model ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The animal rights organization should seek different ways to convey their message to the public.
Advocacy groups may not be associated directly with the journalism and media industries, yet it
should still consult with ethical guidelines pertaining to media related projects. By taking a moment to
step back from the campaign and view it from the perspective of the community, as suggested in the
Bok Model, PETA would have identified the contentious nature of the images. The Potter Box model
would also have been helpful for PETA, considering that it helps organizations break down an issue
by identifying facts, values, principles, and loyalties. While this campaign has been banned in
Germany and remains detested in other parts of the world, the animal rights organization is not
affected. It continues to move forward with controversial media campaigns such as its Go Veg
movement that compared women to meat and its advertisement featuring Joanna Krupa modeling
nude with a crucifix, which received significant objection from the Catholic Church. Since advocacy
organizations such as PETA are not legally bound to ethical guidelines, they are not pressured to abide
by existing ones. However, if there was significant public support, advocacy organizations could be
subject to adhering to ethical codes that would force them to consider the potential

Similarities Between Canada And Iceland
Migration, whether city to city or country to country has always existed and is even essential to some
countries. For an example of a country to country migration, also known as international migration,
we can do a comparison. Approximately 250, 000 people from various areas around the world enter
Canada each year 1, as opposed to the 2000 that go to Iceland.2 People migrate seeking a better life
and for more opportunities. Not all places can provide what people want or even need. Let us take a
look back at the Canada Iceland comparison. Canada has a drastically larger number of immigrants
than Iceland. Many reasons contribute to this increased amount of immigrants, including Canada
which provides: universal healthcare, access to education, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Going into unfamiliar lands, often not even knowing the language is very stressful on the mind. With
no one to guide you, no one to talk to, and no one to share your thoughts with it will most definitely
cause loneliness. This loneliness will discourage the immigrant from even putting all their effort in
striving in this new life. This is all part of what an emotional barrier is. Before even leaving their
country, a person will most definitely think about their family. If they know they cannot bring the
people they care about most, it will reduce your willingness to move. Not only is loneliness the only
part of the emotional barrier, frustration is also included. The whole migration/immigration process is
hard. Having your whole fate in your government s hands, knowing they could deny or stop you from
migrating at any moment. That itself could cause anyone emotional stress. People become extremely
attached to those closest to them and even their homes. Having to leave all that would make anyone
emotional. Besides the mental challenges people face during migration, they also have to face the

The Presidential Campaign And Obama s Administration
A key issue during the 2008 presidential campaign and Obama s administration was interest groups
and lobbyists. Obama had to deal with interest groups all throughout his presidency, whether it was
dealing with Congress or his interaction with committees. Over time interest groups have taken on a
larger and more important role in government. The interaction between interest groups and Obama
played an influential role in shaping his presidency. Special interest groups are a group of people,
usually formally organized that share a common concern and wish to influence public policy in some
way. The goal of all interest groups is to affect government policy for themselves or to further their
causes. A goal they have could be an exclusive policy that benefits group members or one segment of
society or a policy that affects a larger group such as the public as a whole. An example of an
exclusive policy is government subsidies for farmers and an example of a larger effecting policy is
improving air quality. The main method special interest groups use to accomplish their goals is
lobbying, which is trying to influence decisions made by legislators or other government officials.
Whether a government is democratic, authoritarian, or totalitarian, interests are a dominant and
permanent aspect of the political world. Furthermore, interest groups not only play a role on the
national stage, they exist at all levels of government: national, state, provincial, and local. Interest

Cretaceous-Triassic Extinction Research Paper
An extinction event (also known as a mass extinction or biotic crisis) is a widespread and rapid
decrease in the amount of life on Earth. It occurs when the rate of extinction increases with respect to
the rate of speciation. Extinction occurs at an uneven rate.
The most recent and debatably best known, the Cretaceous Paleogene extinction event, which
occurred approximately 66 million years ago (Ma), was a large scale mass extinction of animal and
plant species in a geologically short period of time.
It is now generally believed that the K Pg extinction was triggered by a massive comet or asteroid
impact 66 million years ago and its catastrophic effects on the global environment, including a
lingering impact winter that made it impossible for plants and plankton to carry out photosynthesis.

tectonics and seafloor spreading, leaving no useful indications beneath the ocean. The former group

from the sea floor, either due to dissociation of methane hydrate deposits or metabolism of organic
carbon deposits by methanogenic microbes. The latter group includes sea level change, increasing
anoxia, and increasing aridity. Any hypothesis about the cause must explain the selectivity of the

inorganic carbonates being deposited) once the recovery

Spunk Zora Neale Hurston
Spunk Zora Neale Hurston s short story Spunk was a short story that immediately held my interest
from beginning to end. Hurston provided a gateway to life in her hometown that people could relate to
all over the country and has been able to not disconnect from an audience through the test of time. I
thought that it was interesting that Hurston decided to write a story using the dialect of a small
southern town rather than than proper english grammar and pronunciation. Hurston s decision to use
dialect to enhance her story and for me it brought the story to life. I could picture the characters
talking as it switched from the narrator to each individual , which gave more personality to the person
talking. Zora Neale Hurston Wrote Spunk in a very similar setting as the one that she grew up in,

could tell how this might have shaped a story like Spunk because many black people like Joe in the
story felt like small and had no chance against such colossal opponents such as Spunk himself or the
white power that was still very strong at the time the story was written. Zora Hurston also showed the
depth of a community that might have been similar to the one she grew up in. This not only made the
story interesting because you were a spectator alongside other townspeople in the story, but you could

Indeed, employee empowerment is a well known tool for retaining employees, boosting operation
productivity and recovering customer services. Improper use of empowerment can also impact
negatively on such things as employees poor decision making 3
and management s fear of giving up control. However, employee empowerment has more positive
impacts on the front desk operations and this paper will suggest how to overcome those negative
aspects by showing the best practices used in hotel operations. Constraints One of the main constraints
in this study is the limited access to certain research materials that might be relevant to certain aspects
of the importance of empowering employees at front desk operations. All of the research will be based
on interviews with hotel professionals in successful resorts located in Las Vegas and the use of
published literature. Glossary Empowerment Empowerment is an idea which includes many
disciplines and areas of study such as economics, community development, education, psychology,
and studies of social movements and organizations, among others. According to the definition of The
World Bank, empowerment is providing individuals or groups with enough knowledge to allow them
to make educated choices so that the result of those choices leads to responsible decision making.
Hopefully these decisions will not

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW How an employer and employee (you) are governed by the terms and
conditions contained within a contract of employment (this may not be in writing). Employment
contracts are legally binding on both the employer and employee and serve to protect each other s
rights and responsibilities. The terms (legal parts) of the contract can be in a variety of forms,
including: o verbally agreed o in a written contract (or similar document) o in an employee handbook
or on a company notice board o in an offer letter from your employer o required by law, for example,
your employer must pay you at least the minimum wage o in collective agreements o implied terms A
contract of employment comes into force as soon as a firm offer of employment has been made and

Buck s Sled Dog
Can a tame dog turn into a wild, ferocious animal? Buck lived in the Santa Clara Valley for four years.
He ruled above all the other dogs. During the Gold Rush, Buck got sold away to be an Alaskan sled
dog. As he adapted to being in the wild with vicious dogs, he changed rapidly. Buck transformed from
being a civilized dog that was king of all dogs to a fierce dog. In the 1890 s during the Klondike Gold
Rush, strong sled dogs were needed. Buck was stolen from his house, Judge Miller s place in Santa
Clara Valley, and was given to a man. Next, he was sold to two men named Francois and Perrault to be
a sled dog. As Buck saw other dogs fighting with other dogs, he learned the law of club and fang and
started fighting with other dogs. Buck

Trademarks Infringement
Trademarks Infringement Name Institution Case Decided By the Appellate Court According to the
research done on the two business clients who are under the Websites R Us, Inc, a company; it is a
company that deals with website making happens to have known of the existing trademark similarity.
The two clients, John Smith, has got a registered trademark called Disny World Productions, Inc.
which with sells adult literature and movies online. Another client who is also under Websites R Us is
using the same business name although his business is different. Despite the varied business
operations by the two clients, many customers have been confused when surfing on the internet like
the little Johnny Walker. Following the above analysis, the court determined that the new law
(Lanham Act 2006) should be applied on appeal. Through the facts gathered, the case is genuine, and

Marketing Research and Marketing Mix
Introduction Marketing research also known as consumer research comprises an element of applied
sociological case study which focuses on understanding consumers the behaviors, notions and
preferences. This mostly deals with the present and future of consumers in an economy that depends
on the market. Marketing research is done by companies to study their customers and other
businesses. It seeks to find the best methods of connecting with consumers and a commodity, with the
expectations that the customer will buy. This involved assessing the present marketing presently being
undertaken for that commodity or similar products created by the same firm.
Types of marketing research mechanisms The process assists in determining how efficient the
marketing campaigns are operating. This also includes studying the marketing methods used by other
companies. There are two main types of marketing research mechanisms termed as B2B which means
business to business, as well as business to consumer (B2C).The techniques are two diverse entities
hence there is an urgent need to make use of different assessment techniques to the challenges that
both the entities face (Dant Brown 2008). The market of B2B is businesses, while B2C are customers.
Despite the foundation, of both marketing strategies being the same, method of execution and the
outcome strategies differ. The marketing mix of the strategies is often affected by the degree of
complication in marketing using a consumer and a

Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Cold Deformation Process...
Cold deformation process of metals causes distortion of crystalline structure. When a material is
formed, the grains are usually distorted and elongated in one or more directions which make the
material anisotropic. Anisotropy can be defined as a difference in a material s physical or mechanical
properties in different directions of taking of testing samples. In exploitation, it is very important to
recognize the direction of grain elongation so that the best orientation of working part can be chosen.
For that purpose ultrasonic testing is used. The ultrasonic velocity of the material is determined by
using a digital oscilloscope under condition that thickness of the material is known. Testing shows the

Usually used methods include cutting in two directions (transversal and longitudinal), and
microstructure scanning. These methods take a lot of time. This paper suggest the use of non
destructive testing methods that can offer faster response to basic question: what is the distortion
direction? Proposed method is ultrasonic testing.
Ultrasonic velocity is an important acoustic parameter that characterizes each material [1]. Ultrasonic
velocity in the material is determined by the type and condition of materials and external influences
such as temperature and strain.
He [2] dealt with the issue of measuring the speed of ultrasound in the material so that at the same
time are measured the speed of ultrasound and thickness of the material in several different tubes. For
this purpose, he conducted an analysis of time and frequency domain received signal. He listed all
theoretical influences on the accuracy of speed of ultrasound, but not experimentally determined or
estimated deviation of the actual values.
Ali [3] carried out measuring the longitudinal and transverse ultrasonic velocity in the standard block
and on that experimental basis he determined mechanical properties of the reference standard and
calculated modulus of elasticity of

So, agriculture has to do with that fact:
Fast food chains serve the same food over the world. That means they serve the same French fries
made from the same type of potatoes and the same salads made from the same type of lettuce and
tomatoes in every country. Fats food chains move into countries where the fast food ingredients are
quite different from traditional local ingredients. Local farmers abandon their traditional crops and try
to grow food needed for the very limited international menus. This reduces diversity of local crops
(Hiramoto 35 37) In September of this year in New York Times appeared a new article that
demonstrated the fact that was observed by long year pediatrician Dr. Michalis Stagourakis. He stated
that there is ratio between bad diet and maladies as sniffles, and stomachaches that are interspersed
with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol . Bad diet resources were described as places were
children could buy fast food: pizza parlor, vending machines and other shops supplying junk food

Tendency to obesity eating fast food was proven by many experiments. For example, Indian experts

woman) would look like.
I start with the heart of Horace Mann because his heart was in the right place. He believed that
everyone should be enrolled in school. Mann thought that the common school experience was
something all students should be involved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What student can learn to the best of their potential when they are not seen as a person but as a future
person?
Mary Wallstonecraft s elbows are the next ingredients. She believed that male and female students
should be educated together in order to literally learn about each other and respect each other s
differences. She preached that there should be a focus on the family and learning near your home.
Along with Wallstonecraft is Catherine Beecher. Beecher advocated for the rights of women in the
field of education. She enforced the idea of exercise and its health benefits, especially for women, at a
time when the idea was considered taboo. Beecher had a hand in the advancement of female colleges
and although she did not believe in equal education for men and woman she did act as a catalyst for
the beginnings of female education.
Soon the feet of Rousseau must be added to my educated person. Rousseau adhered to the idea that
students should be allowed to grow on their own and form their own identities. Also, he did not
believe in the physical punishment of students. He believed in the natural state of things and the
freedom of man, which is necessary to instill truly free learning in students.
Emerson s mind is next. Emerson pushed for fullness and awe in every possible avenue life offers you.
He accepted women into his intellectual circle and he accepted them as equals. He stated that people

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (OCD)
The final category would be those who hoard. Hoarding was once categorized as a symptom of OCD,
but has since been recognized as its own separate disorder based on evidence indicating differences in
cognitive and behavioral processing, course of illness, neurobiological basis and treatment response
(Mattina Steiner, 2016). But since the action of hoarding can be seen in many with OCD, it is
important for it to still be mentioned. Hoarders are those who have trouble throwing anything away
because of fear it may be needed or become useful in the future. These objects can include anything
and everything, including used paper napkins, useless gadgets or even rotten food. These items
eventually pile up and grows bigger and bigger until their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This line of treatment is only used when everything else has been tried and none of it has worked.
Furthermore, it is also only used on those with OCD so severe they are unable to function properly. In
other words, this form of treatment is the last resort. Psychosurgery is a medical procedure that is
conducted on the patient s brain. First, it is important to know that those who have OCD have an
abnormality or overactivity in their anterior cingulate gyrus. The cingulate gyrus is a component of the
limbic system and is involved in the processing emotions, behavior and regulation of autonomic motor
functioning. So because of that, the goal of the surgery is to stop the anterior cingulate gyrus from its
activity in the patient, which in theory will be able to allow the patient to function normally again.
This surgery helps the patient feel less anxiety and distress. But it should be recognized that this
surgery, like the majority of other surgeries, comes with both minor and severe possible

Using a Fashion Image, Explore the Strengths and...
FASHION MEDIA Using a fashion image, explore the strengths and limitations of a semiotic
analysis. Abstract; This essay will aim to elucidate the use of semiotic analysis using fashion
iconography and imagery as its primary medium. We will aim to explore the strengths and limitations
of semiotic analysis through a process of dissection; where we will explain how imagery has been
layered to give voice to what the artist has chosen to communicate, without the use of syntax.
Introduction; We live in an image filled world. Whether they are encountered in galleries, the internet
or elsewhere, images challenge us. They cause us to reflect and to question our assumptions about
ourselves and others. Diversity lies in the fact that we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is through consideration of the object photographed; the method of lighting, technical parameters
and the representation that the photographer wishes to portray. The connotation is how something is
photographed, while the denotation is what is photographed. What is important in this scenario is that
the essence of the picture is manipulated by one or more of these external factors. It may be argued
that the art of photography itself is not organic, but merely the careful manipulation of external
elements, constructed by the artist. However, Barthes does not consider photography as an analogue, a
puerile denoted message, yet ironically that is how most people instinctively see. Objects
photographed (denoted) for non artistic pictures such as documentaries are perceived by the viewer as
portraying characteristics of the truth, rather than being used as stylistic mediums. According to
Barthes, in the case of traumatic images where tragic events are depicted, even those that have long
passed still have the ability to evoke emotion. In other words, cause the suspension of the connotation
process. Other pictures are subject to both processes, though the structure of visual expression can be
heard independent independently; comprehensive and exhaustive. Barthes does not deny that the
essence of the connotation is not in this case in the transmission, but is related to other factors. There

How Does Beowulf Present Societal Values
In Beowulf, Canterbury Tales: The Wife of Bath s Tale, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the
authors portray societal values through the development of plot. In Beowulf, Beowulf journeys to
Hrothgar s kingdom. He comes because a monster, Grendel, has been destroying parts of their village
and killing their men. Beowulf also comes to repay a debt that is owed to Hrothgar for saving his
father and his father s army. When Beowulf arrives, he boasts to Hrothgar and Hrothgar says that he is
allowed to try and defeat the monster. Beowulf fights with Grendel and wins. Soon, Grendel s mother
comes to destroy Beowulf. Beowulf fights her in a long, drawn out battle and wins. Beowulf grows
old and becomes king of the Geats and then he and his men go to fight the dragon because Beowulf
wants to secure the treasure so that his kingdom will have wealth and prosperity after his ... Show

When they fight his men are overcome with personal greed of the treasure and are foolish in battle and
die. Beowulf then fights the dragon single handedly, killing it but getting himself killed in the process.
The author of Beowulf portrays the societal values of honor and bravery through this plot. Beowulf
goes because, as Hrothgar described it, I brought the end to Edgetho s (Beowulf s father) quarrel, sent
ancient treasures through the ocean s furrows to the Wulfings (Beowulf 204 206). He is being
honorable by repaying the debt that his father owed to Hrothgor. Honor and keeping promises was an
important part of Anglo Saxon societies and was an important part of their warrior code. The author of
Beowulf also portrays the societal value of bravery in the story. The original thought of going to fight
three monsters is bravery in itself. But

Protein Synthesis Essay
Protein Synthesis
Protein synthesis is one of the most fundamental biological processes. To start off, a protein is made in
a ribosome. There are many cellular mechanisms involved with protein synthesis. Before the process
of protein synthesis can be described, a person must know what proteins are made out of. There are
four basic levels of protein organization. The first is primary structure, followed by secondary
structure, then tertiary structure, and the last level is quaternary structure. Once someone understands
the makeup of a protein, they can then begin to learn how elements can combine and go from genes to
protein. There are two main processes that occur during protein synthesis, or peptide formation. One is
transcription and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These new formations are held together by hydrogen bonds. The third level is the tertiary structure.
The tertiary structure of a protein is a contorted secondary structure being twisted and folded all out of
shape to form a 3 d complex. The type of bonding that holds these formations together are weak
interactions such as hydrophilic, hydrophobic, ionic, and hydrogen bonds. These bonds are
individually weak, but collectively strong. The forth level, which completes a protein, is quaternary
structure, which occurs when two or more tertiary structures are joined together by polypeptide bonds.
The formation of a protein begins in the genes, which contain the basic building information for all
parts of living organisms. There are four DNA nucleotides that make up genes: A, T, C, and G. A
codon is any arrangement of three of these nucleotides. Each triplet of nucleotides codes for one
amino acid. First transcription will begin in the nucleus where mRNA will transcribe the DNA
template. During both transcription and translation, there are three steps. The first step in transcription
is initiation where RNA polymerase separates a DNA strand and binds RNA nucleotides to the DNA.
RNA nucleotides are the same as DNA ones except that U replaces the T. The second is just the
elongation of the mRNA. The third step of transcription is termination. This occurs when RNA
polymerase reads a codon region and the mRNA separates from the

Lab Report 9 Bleach Oxidation Essays
Bleach Oxidation of 9 Hydroxyfluorene
The purpose of this experiment was to oxidize an alcohol (9 hydroxyfluorene) to a ketone (9
fluorenone) using aqueous sodium hypochlorite (bleach) as the oxidizing agent, while introducing
techniques used in microscale experiments.
Reaction:
Results
1. Recrystallized Product Yield
Product yield = (actual yield/theoretical yield) x 100%
3mL 9 hydroxyfluorene x (1mL/1000mL) x (0.09 mol/L) = 2.7 x 10 4 moles
0.05g 9 fluorenone / (180.20g/mol) = 2.77 x 10 4 moles
Product yield: (0.000277 mol/0.00027 mol) x 100 = 102.5% yield
*Note: A recording mistake was made in the lab notebook, where the final product was supposed to be
0.05g (calculations above) and not 0.55g (calculations below).
0.55g ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The range determined in the experiment is approximately 2 degrees above the actual melting point
range, indicating some impurities in the final compound. According to the IR spectrum, the product
obtained is quite pure. The peaks in the table above indicate the presence of a carbonyl, specifically
the C=O bond of a cyclic ketone and also the sp2 hybridized =C H bond of an alkene. There is no
broad peak ranging from 3200 cm 1 3600 cm 1, which would indicate the presence of the OH group of
an alcohol. Thus, there is likely no presence of starting material in the final product. The percent yield
above 100% indicates that some liquid (hexanes) used to recrystallize the product was likely still in
the flask when the product was weighed.
2. Price of Reagents
Jones Oxidation: 0.00027 moles of 9 hydroxyfluorene requires:
(.00027 mol)(1.1) / (2M) = .1485 L of 2M CrO3 in H2SO4. That would be 14.85mL. Therefore,
($88.70)(14.85/25) = $52.69
PCC Oxidation: .00027 moles of PCC would weigh: (.00027mol)(1.1)(215.56g/mol) = 0.064g. This
costs ($25.20)(.064/25)= $0.06
Swern Oxidation: (0.00027 mol)(1.1)(78.13 g/mol) / (1.1 g/mL) = 0.02 mL of DMSO. ($28.70)
(.02/100) = $0.01
(.00027 mol)(3)(101.2 g/mol)/(.725 g/mL) = 0.11 mL of Et3N
($24.50)(.11/100) = $0.27
(.00027 mol)(1.1)(126.93 g/mol) = 0.038g of Oxalyl chloride
($51.90)(.038/25) = $0.08
Total cost: 0.01+0.27+0.08 = $0.36

A Brief Note On Gold Nanoparticle Sensor Augmentation Essay
DISCUSSION In order to improve the range of the electronic nose, the following must be considered
in order to effectively detect cancers. Primarily, types of cancer must be tested to determine if they
contain compounds detectable by dogs, which would indicate that said specific cancer contains odors
that are possible to be detected through an electronic nose. Secondly, a database must be compiled of
all the different detectable compounds that are unique to each type cancer through scientific research.
After these two steps are complete, a gold nanoparticle sensor must be designed in order detect
compounds specific to each cancer. All in all, the improved electronic nose will be susceptible to
detect cancers it was unable to smell before. The following are the steps involved in this
recommendation and illustrate the processes needed to carry out this project. Cancer Detectability
Cancer Compounds Gold Nanoparticle Sensor Augmentation Cancer Detectability To be able to
improve the existing electronic nose technology that detects cancers via chemical compounds, it is
required that those compounds are feasible to be detected by a dog. If there is documented history of
dogs accurately detecting a specific type of cancer in humans, or a recent scientific confirmation that
the said specific cancer is odorously detectable through the unique chemical compounds, then the
detection of said type of cancer is feasibly detectable with electronic noses Otherwise, the cancer may

Color Yellow Autobiography
One special memory that shaped my life was loving the color yellow. This may seem peculiar for a
little girl to prefer yellow instead of pink though my story will soon become clear. Topaz is the stone
that coincides with my birth month, I learned of this when I was about four years old. Children
occasionally cling to items or ideas, claiming them as their own, I chose yellow.
The movie Mary Poppins, a popular movie in the 60 s and 70 s, helped to reinforce the popularity of
the color yellow when my brother and I were sick. Cough medicine tasted terrible in the early 70 s,
worse than in the present, therefore my mother concocted a solution to encourage us to take the
medicine. While singing the song With a Spoonful of Sugar we were to wish ... Show more content on

The long awaited fifth birthday had finally arrived, the cake was yellow, the new bicycle was white
with yellow details including a banana shaped seat, tassels, and a horn. Saved for last was a beautiful,
yellow, half Lab/Shepard puppy, she was perfect. I named her Sunshine and of course our favorite
family song became You are my Sunshine .
Sunshine became a inside dog after being hit by a vehicle during her first year with our family.
Luckily we were not witnesses to the event, although I have memories of her with a leg brace and
needing to apply medicine daily to her wounds. Sunshine healed quickly, however for the rest of her
life she walked with a sideways gait similar to John Wayne. She learned from her experience and
almost never chased another car. Being an inside dog was fortunate, for when she was three we moved
to a street that was frequent with traffic.
Sunshine followed us everywhere in our new neighborhood, she protected us on numerous occasions
from strangers and bullies. Everyone in our circle of friends and family was grateful for her during the
summer my little brother becoming a snake hunter. Sunshine stayed closer to him than ever, she once
even killed a Copperhead protecting

Analysis Of The Mccord Museum Of Canadian History
Canada is a multicultural nation whose population was vastly built through the immigration of peoples
from around the world. The McCord Museum of Canadian History explores Canada s
multiculturalism through several exhibits. The museum was brought to life by David Ross McCord
who wished to shed light on the history and cultures of his country and thus bring its people together.
The Museum features several exhibits which are physically available at the museum, and some of
which are available online. One of the online exhibits entitled Being Irish O Quebec explores the
impact in which Irish culture has had on the province of Quebec from past to present. Many years ago,
Irish people departed from their home country to escape difficult times and find a bright future in
Canada. Many of the Irish immigrants settled into the colony of New France, which is now known as
the Canadian province Quebec. The Being Irish O Quebec Exhibit at McCord Museum pushes the
idea that the Irish are one of the most significant ethnic groups in Quebec, both in the way of numbers
and historical impact. The Exhibit depicts Irish immigration to Quebec using artifacts and images.
These artifacts and images as well as the information that comes along with them demonstrate the
struggles and successes of the Irish peoples at this time. The Being Irish O Quebec Exhibit s main
argument is that the Irish had a major contribution to Quebec s identity as a province. The Exhibit
claims that the Irish are

Textual Codes Essay
Possibly one of the most prevalent codes in daily living all across the world is how people dress. The
cloth people choose to cover their bodies with on a day to day basis says a lot about the individual and
about that society. It can serve as a clue to what that person believes morally, what part of the world
they come from, and even a message they are trying to send. According to Daniel Chandler in his
book Semiotics: The Basics, Semioticians seek to identify codes and the tacit rules and constraints
which underlie the production and interpretation of meaning within each code (Chandler 2007: 148).
Chandler goes on to discuss three different types of codes within his book consisting of social codes,
textual codes, and interpretive codes. The variety of styles worn across various cultures reveals
something about the social codes. The textual codes can be seen in how clothing is advertised, and
what this means across the various cultures whether it serves to individualize some or unite others

American Christian females while provided with a wide range of variety of clothing styles are looked
down upon if they caught showing too much skin. Typically, the more modest her clothing is the better

Christians hold true to their modesty, they have adopted the popular slogan, modest is hottest as an
advertisement. The idea of Christian American female clothing is to be able to wear the styles they
want, but still remain modest in how they dress. Those who are found to be wearing clothes of a more
revealing nature are said to not be aligned with beliefs regarding modesty and the Christian faith and
could potentially be labeled as living in sin, as stipulated in Biblical

The Causes of the Seven Years War
The French and Indian war represents the generic notion for what is known in the history of the
European continent as the Seven Years War. This war represented an important moment in the history
of the United States, despite the fact that the actual confrontation and the political disputes had
included the French and the British. Although the political matters were related to the colonial issues
the two sides had on the European continent, the major battlefield in this sense were disputed in the
American colonies. It marked a crucial point in the creation of the United States and in defining the
territorial identity of the country.
Causes of the Seven Years War
There are numerous causes that can be stated to justify the war and discussions over the causes of the
war have been vast (Ropes, 1889). Two of the most important however focus on the historical
background on the one hand and the geopolitical control over colonies on the other hand (Evera n.d) .
The war was a crucial moment in the history of the colonial relations because it codified the total
control of Britain over the sea trade as well as the sovereignty over most part of the North American
continent through the Treaty of Paris.
During the 18th century there was a fierce competition between the British and the French colonial
empires that ultimately led to The Seven Years War. The final result of the conflict favored the English
who, nonetheless, were forced to make appeal to the force of the American

In this time Cooper was never thanked for her effort to maintain ethical business practices and to
report inappropriate actions. Cooper has since moved on and left the company. WorldCom acquired
Arthur Andersen as the independent external auditing for the company. As WorldCom grew after the
merger with MCI, Andersen began to invoice less than they should have. The charges were defended
as an opportunity to prolong business with WorldCom. (Kaplan and Kiron, 2007). This is an
immediate red flag for a company. Where were the ethical practices of the independent auditor? If the
auditor has no ethics, how can one possibly be assured that the company is performing its intended
function appropriately? The board of directors should have immediately been informed of Andersen s
practices and made a decision to confront Andersen s practices and possibly obtain new independent
auditors. The Board of non Directors WorldCom s board of directors was comprised mostly of former
owners, officers, or directors of companies acquired by WorldCom (Kaplan and Kiron, 2007 p. 10).
The Board and its Committees did not function in a way that made it likely that they would notice red
flags. The outside Directors had little or no involvement in the Company s business other than through
attendance at Board meetings. Nearly all of the Directors were legacies of companies that WorldCom,
under Ebbers leadership, had acquired. They had ceded leadership to Ebbers when their

Children Should Not Receive Scheduled Vaccinations
Children are a vulnerable group within a population with respect to diseases, which then increases
their susceptibility to various illnesses, as adults generally have a stronger immune system as
compared to children. Steens, Beasley, Tsui, and Lee (1975) argued that children are more prone to be
a carrier of diseases than adults (as cited in Anderson and May, 1985). With that being said, the focus
remains on vaccinating children as the majority are in school for a great amount of time where they
are in proximity of one another, the continuous sharing of items, and are usually inconsistent with
hand hygiene. Under those circumstances, Anderson and May (1985) found that in children aged 5 15
infection rates would increase as a result of close contact within schools. Children who do not receive
scheduled vaccinations put themselves, as well as others at risk for vaccine preventable diseases, as
infants who are too young of age to receive vaccines, children, elderly, and community members who
have compromised immune systems most vulnerable to acquiring vaccine preventable diseases. Omer,
Salmon, Orenstein, DeHart, Halsey (2009) argued that outbreaks of diseases regularly begins with
individuals who refuse vaccinations, as it spreads within communities and other populations.
Combining these factors, there is a high possibility of outbreaks in schools of life threatening illnesses
such as measles, mumps, and polio that unfortunately has taken many lives retrospectively. For

  • 2. Definition Essay On Open Relationships Have you found yourself asking, What is an open relationship or Are we in an open relationship? If so, hopefully it isn t because you agreed to such a relationship without understanding what it really means. If you and your partner want to have a successful relationship (open or not), it s absolutely critical to have clarity on your expectations of each other. This is rarely more important than when committing to a non traditional arrangement. Okay... back to the question. What exactly does it mean to have a relationship that s open? The complicated thing is that the term has different meanings to different people, so take a look at some of these categories and come to a finite agreement with your partner on some open relationship rules. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A relationship like this may or may not include full disclosure. In some cases, the faithful partner accepts that there will be outside relationships but doesn t want to discuss it at all. Swinging One of the more controversial types of open relationships is the swinger lifestyle. In an open relationship that includes couples dating others, there is often a focus on togetherness in the affairs. In some cases, the couple dates other couples; however, there are many cases where the couple adds a single third party to the relationship. The primary relationship comes first, but both partners are open to fully disclosed outside relationships. When this is strictly sexual, a third (or fourth or fifth or whatever) person may simply be included on occasion. Swinging exists in a variety of other forms as well. In some cases, there may be a multitude of people committed to openly sharing each other while forsaking all outside parties. Open Committed The most important reason to ask your partner What is an open relationship to you, is that for some people the term simply means keeping communication lines ... • 3. The Potter Box Model Of Ethical Reasoning While the journalism profession might appear to be as straightforward as black and white, there are a handful of grey areas that raise ethical concerns. These areas can range from something as simple as the correct attribution of information, to as complex as the controversial practice of native advertisements. Journalists, however, have access to an abundance of resources, including multiple sets of guidelines, which can help them make a difficult decision about an ethical dilemma. Whether they are filing stories or creating media campaigns, journalists should consult these codes of ethics to ensure that they are fulfilling their responsibility as watchdogs of society. Some of the more commonly referred to guidelines include the Bok Model ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The animal rights organization should seek different ways to convey their message to the public. Advocacy groups may not be associated directly with the journalism and media industries, yet it should still consult with ethical guidelines pertaining to media related projects. By taking a moment to step back from the campaign and view it from the perspective of the community, as suggested in the Bok Model, PETA would have identified the contentious nature of the images. The Potter Box model would also have been helpful for PETA, considering that it helps organizations break down an issue by identifying facts, values, principles, and loyalties. While this campaign has been banned in Germany and remains detested in other parts of the world, the animal rights organization is not affected. It continues to move forward with controversial media campaigns such as its Go Veg movement that compared women to meat and its advertisement featuring Joanna Krupa modeling nude with a crucifix, which received significant objection from the Catholic Church. Since advocacy organizations such as PETA are not legally bound to ethical guidelines, they are not pressured to abide by existing ones. However, if there was significant public support, advocacy organizations could be subject to adhering to ethical codes that would force them to consider the potential ... • 4. Similarities Between Canada And Iceland Migration, whether city to city or country to country has always existed and is even essential to some countries. For an example of a country to country migration, also known as international migration, we can do a comparison. Approximately 250, 000 people from various areas around the world enter Canada each year 1, as opposed to the 2000 that go to Iceland.2 People migrate seeking a better life and for more opportunities. Not all places can provide what people want or even need. Let us take a look back at the Canada Iceland comparison. Canada has a drastically larger number of immigrants than Iceland. Many reasons contribute to this increased amount of immigrants, including Canada which provides: universal healthcare, access to education, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Going into unfamiliar lands, often not even knowing the language is very stressful on the mind. With no one to guide you, no one to talk to, and no one to share your thoughts with it will most definitely cause loneliness. This loneliness will discourage the immigrant from even putting all their effort in striving in this new life. This is all part of what an emotional barrier is. Before even leaving their country, a person will most definitely think about their family. If they know they cannot bring the people they care about most, it will reduce your willingness to move. Not only is loneliness the only part of the emotional barrier, frustration is also included. The whole migration/immigration process is hard. Having your whole fate in your government s hands, knowing they could deny or stop you from migrating at any moment. That itself could cause anyone emotional stress. People become extremely attached to those closest to them and even their homes. Having to leave all that would make anyone emotional. • 5. The Presidential Campaign And Obama s Administration A key issue during the 2008 presidential campaign and Obama s administration was interest groups and lobbyists. Obama had to deal with interest groups all throughout his presidency, whether it was dealing with Congress or his interaction with committees. Over time interest groups have taken on a larger and more important role in government. The interaction between interest groups and Obama played an influential role in shaping his presidency. Special interest groups are a group of people, usually formally organized that share a common concern and wish to influence public policy in some way. The goal of all interest groups is to affect government policy for themselves or to further their causes. A goal they have could be an exclusive policy that benefits group members or one segment of society or a policy that affects a larger group such as the public as a whole. An example of an exclusive policy is government subsidies for farmers and an example of a larger effecting policy is improving air quality. The main method special interest groups use to accomplish their goals is lobbying, which is trying to influence decisions made by legislators or other government officials. Whether a government is democratic, authoritarian, or totalitarian, interests are a dominant and permanent aspect of the political world. Furthermore, interest groups not only play a role on the national stage, they exist at all levels of government: national, state, provincial, and local. Interest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Cretaceous-Triassic Extinction Research Paper An extinction event (also known as a mass extinction or biotic crisis) is a widespread and rapid decrease in the amount of life on Earth. It occurs when the rate of extinction increases with respect to the rate of speciation. Extinction occurs at an uneven rate. The most recent and debatably best known, the Cretaceous Paleogene extinction event, which occurred approximately 66 million years ago (Ma), was a large scale mass extinction of animal and plant species in a geologically short period of time. It is now generally believed that the K Pg extinction was triggered by a massive comet or asteroid impact 66 million years ago and its catastrophic effects on the global environment, including a lingering impact winter that made it impossible for plants and plankton to carry out photosynthesis. • 7. Spunk Zora Neale Hurston Spunk Zora Neale Hurston s short story Spunk was a short story that immediately held my interest from beginning to end. Hurston provided a gateway to life in her hometown that people could relate to all over the country and has been able to not disconnect from an audience through the test of time. I thought that it was interesting that Hurston decided to write a story using the dialect of a small southern town rather than than proper english grammar and pronunciation. Hurston s decision to use dialect to enhance her story and for me it brought the story to life. I could picture the characters talking as it switched from the narrator to each individual , which gave more personality to the person talking. Zora Neale Hurston Wrote Spunk in a very similar setting as the one that she grew up in, Southern dialect is different and has a certain charm to it that could not have been conveyed if this paper had been written in an traditional dialogue. I could tell how this might have shaped a story like Spunk because many black people like Joe in the story felt like small and had no chance against such colossal opponents such as Spunk himself or the white power that was still very strong at the time the story was written. Zora Hurston also showed the depth of a community that might have been similar to the one she grew up in. Improper use of empowerment can also impact negatively on such things as employees poor decision making 3 and management s fear of giving up control. However, employee empowerment has more positive impacts on the front desk operations and this paper will suggest how to overcome those negative aspects by showing the best practices used in hotel operations. Constraints One of the main constraints in this study is the limited access to certain research materials that might be relevant to certain aspects of the importance of empowering employees at front desk operations. During the Gold Rush, Buck got sold away to be an Alaskan sled dog. As he adapted to being in the wild with vicious dogs, he changed rapidly. Buck transformed from being a civilized dog that was king of all dogs to a fierce dog. In the 1890 s during the Klondike Gold Rush, strong sled dogs were needed. Buck was stolen from his house, Judge Miller s place in Santa Clara Valley, and was given to a man. Next, he was sold to two men named Francois and Perrault to be a sled dog. • 14. Marketing Research and Marketing Mix Introduction Marketing research also known as consumer research comprises an element of applied sociological case study which focuses on understanding consumers the behaviors, notions and preferences. This mostly deals with the present and future of consumers in an economy that depends on the market. Marketing research is done by companies to study their customers and other businesses. It seeks to find the best methods of connecting with consumers and a commodity, with the expectations that the customer will buy. This involved assessing the present marketing presently being undertaken for that commodity or similar products created by the same firm. Types of marketing research mechanisms The process assists in determining how efficient the marketing campaigns are operating. This also includes studying the marketing methods used by other companies. There are two main types of marketing research mechanisms termed as B2B which means business to business, as well as business to consumer (B2C).The techniques are two diverse entities hence there is an urgent need to make use of different assessment techniques to the challenges that both the entities face (Dant Brown 2008). The market of B2B is businesses, while B2C are customers. Despite the foundation, of both marketing strategies being the same, method of execution and the outcome strategies differ. In exploitation, it is very important to recognize the direction of grain elongation so that the best orientation of working part can be chosen. For that purpose ultrasonic testing is used. This paper suggest the use of non destructive testing methods that can offer faster response to basic question: what is the distortion direction? Proposed method is ultrasonic testing. Ultrasonic velocity is an important acoustic parameter that characterizes each material [1]. Ultrasonic velocity in the material is determined by the type and condition of materials and external influences such as temperature and strain. He [2] dealt with the issue of measuring the speed of ultrasound in the material so that at the same time are measured the speed of ultrasound and thickness of the material in several different tubes. For this purpose, he conducted an analysis of time and frequency domain received signal. He listed all theoretical influences on the accuracy of speed of ultrasound, but not experimentally determined or estimated deviation of the actual values. Fats food chains move into countries where the fast food ingredients are quite different from traditional local ingredients. Local farmers abandon their traditional crops and try to grow food needed for the very limited international menus. This reduces diversity of local crops (Hiramoto 35 37) In September of this year in New York Times appeared a new article that demonstrated the fact that was observed by long year pediatrician Dr. Michalis Stagourakis. It may be argued that the art of photography itself is not organic, but merely the careful manipulation of external elements, constructed by the artist. There are many cellular mechanisms involved with protein synthesis. Before the process of protein synthesis can be described, a person must know what proteins are made out of. There are four basic levels of protein organization. The first is primary structure, followed by secondary structure, then tertiary structure, and the last level is quaternary structure. Once someone understands the makeup of a protein, they can then begin to learn how elements can combine and go from genes to protein. These new formations are held together by hydrogen bonds. The third level is the tertiary structure. The tertiary structure of a protein is a contorted secondary structure being twisted and folded all out of shape to form a 3 d complex. The type of bonding that holds these formations together are weak interactions such as hydrophilic, hydrophobic, ionic, and hydrogen bonds. These bonds are individually weak, but collectively strong. The forth level, which completes a protein, is quaternary structure, which occurs when two or more tertiary structures are joined together by polypeptide bonds. The formation of a protein begins in the genes, which contain the basic building information for all parts of living organisms. There are four DNA nucleotides that make up genes: A, T, C, and G. A codon is any arrangement of three of these nucleotides. Each triplet of nucleotides codes for one amino acid. First transcription will begin in the nucleus where mRNA will transcribe the DNA template. During both transcription and translation, there are three steps. The first step in transcription is initiation where RNA polymerase separates a DNA strand and binds RNA nucleotides to the DNA. RNA nucleotides are the same as DNA ones except that U replaces the T. The second is just the elongation of the mRNA. The third step of transcription is termination. This occurs when RNA polymerase reads a codon region and the mRNA separates from the ... Primarily, types of cancer must be tested to determine if they contain compounds detectable by dogs, which would indicate that said specific cancer contains odors that are possible to be detected through an electronic nose. Secondly, a database must be compiled of all the different detectable compounds that are unique to each type cancer through scientific research. After these two steps are complete, a gold nanoparticle sensor must be designed in order detect compounds specific to each cancer.
