thousand of the Enfield pattern were purchased by the United States government during the war
(Davis 59). Those purchased came in two different forms machine made and handmade models
coming mostly from Birmingham and London. The effect of this production on English gun
makers was an expansion of wages twenty pounds became the common wage per week
increasing from three prior to the war. In some instances barrel makers had earned as much as
fifty pounds in a single week ( Edwards 247). By 1863 the importation of foreign arms had

Prior to the war the Ordinance Bureau had decided to begin evaluating breech loading carbines
for the cavalry. Ripley opposed breech loaders or repeating rifles for infantry use. There was a
belief that they would waste ammunition, and were expensive. His main complaint was that the
production of these weapons would curtail production of carbines. He saw the inherent advantage
of the breechloader for mounted service. It was far simpler to reload from horseback than a
muzzle loading arm. Because of this there many options for domestic carbines at the start of the
war. The Sharps carbine was the weapon that the North wanted. The Sharps Company would
produce over eighty thousand carbines during the war. But these were not enough. In response to
the demand for carbines various other arms of good quality such as the Smith and Burnside were
acquired. Some others of lesser quality such as the Cosmopolitan and Maynard were also
purchased at this time. Carbine production was centered in Massachusetts also. Smith carbines, of
which large numbers were ordered by the Government, were built in part by Massachusetts Arms,
and in part by the nearby American Machine Works in Springfield (Edwards 102). This

Failure of the Belmont Report
One. The Belmont Report has failed to distinguish different sources including the kinds of
vulnerability or to map particular protections to particular vulnerabilities (Rogers Lange, 2013).
This can be a problem because different kinds of vulnerability justify different responses. Nickel
(2006) claims that there are two overlapping senses of vulnerability at work with the Belmont
Report and in following human research ethics guidelines (p.2141). The first relates to the
capacity to give informed consent, which the Belmont Report connects to the principle of
respect for autonomy (Nickel, 2006). The second is the sense of vulnerability, as explained by
Nickel, which relates to the Belmont Reports principles of justice meaning fairness (Nickel,
2006). The concern here is that vulnerable groups may be overrepresented in research for
example, when the group lacks understanding or power to refuse participation (Rogers Lange,
2013). This is explicit in the Belmont Report. Within the study, it was also explained that
vulnerable groups may be excluded from research and thereby be excluded from the benefits of
participation in clinical trials and subsequent access to treatments for which research evidence
exists (Nickel, 2006). Research ethics guidelines that simply list groups likely to be vulnerable run
a risk of stereotyping, and of the consequent harms of unjustified exclusion of research (Rogers
Lange, 2013, p. 2141). Yes, I believe the authors within the article

What sort of social critique does this Street Angel (1937) present? What does it say about issues
involved in modernization ? What symbols are portrayed in Street Angel (1937)
Introduction
Every country has specific famous era in which their cinema portrays the reality of their society, the
1930 s was the era in which China s cinema bent itself towards portraying society and
modernization.
A lot of distinctive features developed by Chinese film over the last hundred years are the result and
testimony of the particular kind of interaction linking culture with politics in the twentieth century
china. As a kind of mass entertainment Chinese film has been affected by historical forces in a

Critics of street angel were expected to comment on a conflicting set of political and cultural
norms, which were portrayed in the movie, in order to revel a complex culture beset by
inextricable issues.
Strong women characters like the two sisters were portrayed in this movie. As they had an
omnipresent presence in Chinese cinematic portrayal of women and the start era of cinema in
which of modern social configurations are portrayed, even though the women portrayed in the
street angel were prostitutes. Women s contribution in the movie was greatly appreciated (Yingjin
p36).
Street angel a musical and thus it followed the genre of Chinese cinema in 1930. Thus this
movie was made in order to portray the social conditions by means of song and not a dramatic
plot, and their promotion material showed titles of the songs sung in the movie and the singers
who sung them. Needless to state, a lot of the actors of street angel were not movie stars however
they popular artists who usually took part in such musicals. It can be said that this movie portrayed
the social condition of china in a more colorful manner then past movies of that era, as a lot of
catchy songs were used in this musicals.

Explain The Spanish Conquest Of The Aztec
Disease Conquest The Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire was both quick and easy. There are
many factors that may have contributed to the Spanish Conquistadors ability to defeat and conquer
a city of more than 200,000 people (LoМЃpez LujaМЃn Levin, 2005). Two of these factors were
the introduction of small pox to the Mesoamerican people and the alliances that Henan CortГ©s
forged with enemies of the AztecEmpire.
The Aztecs gained economically through warfare and did not care to control territorially. They
were more concerned with tribute to bring in and support TenochtitlГЎn, than the land itself (Paine,
The Aztecs, 2015). They implied a threat of 40,000 warriors being unleashed if compliance to their
tributary system was not met. The fear of consequences of military strength kept control, but also
created a burden on the people and caused resentment of the forced tribute. ... Show more content

interacted with the people and collected knowledge. This information he used to play up the Aztec

According to a study at the University of Kansas, students in grades 9 12 were surveyed, more than
97% of student athletes were able to graduate high school, 10% higher than students that never

were more likely to graduate high school. Additionally, student athletes have an average gpa of

With supportive teammates always looking out for each other they keep each other out of

52% less likely to skip school if they have a mentor and 46% less likely to use drugs.( Health
Fitness Revolution 3) This study shows that being involved in sports has benefits to kids and helps
keep them on the right track for their future. They are more likely to go to college and get better
jobs in the future. This topic relates to parent s moral values. Many parents agree with the law
and don t want their kids being exposed to drugs and alcohol so they are willing to accept sports

The Maternal Light Environment Of Campanulastrum...
In a 2005 and 2007 study by L. Galloway, the maternal light environment of Campanulastrum
americanum was shown to influence the offspring s germination season by altering the maternal
flowering time. C. americanum, also known as the American bellflower, is a native understory fern.
Individuals can grow in either the forest understory or in light gaps, therefore, individuals will
experience no direct sunlight, or full sunlight for some length of time, daily. Individuals within the
C. americanum species are capable of having one of two life history strategies. The relationship
between maternal light environment and flowering time can influence the offspring s life history
strategy by dictating whether the individuals grow as annuals or biennials. A majority of seeds in
light gaps became annuals, germinating in the fall and flowering immediately the next summer,
while a majority of the understory seeds grew as biennial individuals, germinating in the spring and
growing for a season before flowering their second year. As the study results support, these
flowering phenologies are two different life history strategies that have been influenced by maternal
effects. The study results have shown that twice as many seeds germinated in light gaps if their
mother had grown within the gap, and that twice as many seeds germinated in the understory if
their mother had also grown there. The population growth for individuals grown outside of their
mother s environment was determined to be

Why spend money that is really needed for other things? Why live uncomfortably? Why be
trapped in this hole called a home that belongs to another person? Why not live free and
peacefully? When a person rents he or she usually throws away money that could be used to
purchase something that belongs to them. Money is not easy to come by so why pay out hundreds
toward something that is not benefit to the person paying it out. There is no good explanation for
making a decision like this. The best option in a situation like this is to buy a house. Buying a
house is a better option than renting an apartment.

Buying a house provides stability forever unless the owner decides to sell or to move into
another home in which the owner gains equity for selling. This is still a huge benefit. Owning a
home is a very huge security measure. When a person is an actual homeowner and not a renter
he or she can control who actually enters his or her home (Map, 2011). It is easier to purchase
home alarm systems and everything that goes on in a person s home is controlled by the owner.
As a homeowner the option of what is allowed and what goes on is controlled by the actual
homeowner. If an issue comes up and the owner has to move somewhere else then this is a huge
benefit. As a seller a person can earn so much money and it can build equity (Media, 2010).
Usually homes sell for way more than the purchase prices, especially if the owner has
customized the home, in which was discussed earlier (RP Reality, 2011). The selling price could
be a huge benefit to any owner who is selling their home and moving. These benefits cannot be
earned by an apartment renter. Buying a home is the best route to choose in any situation. Buying
a home means actually owning something. There is no more following another person s rules, no
more paying out unnecessary money. It means a sense of security and stability for a person s
family. It is the key to a better lifestyle. The benefits are all there. There is

The Metaphor of Dance in Fugard s Master Harold ...and the Boys In Athol Fugard s play Master
Harold ... and the Boys dance becomes a metaphor for how society can work harmoniously
together, yet there are conflicts that prevent it from happening. Specifically, ballroom dance
becomes a metaphor to show the conflict between a cooperative society and the disappointment
associated with life and our inability to force change. This is expressed by Sam teaching Willie the
mastery of dance and also educating Hally on the significance of the championships, and ultimately
through the final dance performance. The difficulty associated with perfection is first seen during

hope for mankind after all as they recall famous people, like Gandhi and the Pope, who have

point that everyone in the world is still struggling in ways to get along with one another and
while it is not easy, it should not be a reason to not try to learn to dance in harmony with others
and create a better world. Hally, Willie, and Sam are confronted with the reality the world might be

forced to meet his issues with his fathers return from the hospital. As a child, Hally had to bring his
father home and help him after his drunken stupors. This

The focus of this lab was to identify which plasmid (PFG or Pglo) was inserted into the E. coli
culture. In order for the E. coli to be transformed, the E.coli must first be made competent. The
cells were made competent by incubating the cells in calcium (2+) and then in cold temperatures. A
quick heat shot opens pores in the cell membrane and allowed plasmid DNAto enter the cells. The
plasmid that was inserted into the E. coli culture had antibiotic reistance geneand a reporter gene. A

Albert Camus-the Outsider
Probably no European writer of his time left so deep a mark on the imagination. Conor Cruise O
Brien.
First published in French as L Etranger in 1942, Albert
Camus The Outsider addresses the constrictive nature of society and what happens when an
individual tries to break free from the conformity forced upon him by staying true to himself, and
following his own ideal of absolute truth and sincerity in every action. Propelled more by the
philosophy of existentialism and the notion of the absurd than plot and characters, Camus novel
raises many questions about life, and answers them in a final chilling climax.
The plot of The Outsider revolves around a central act of unmeditated violence on a beach, proving

Existentialism refers to the philosophy that questions life which exists in a hostile environment.
Camus, along with his friend, fellow writer, and French Resistance leader Jean Paul Sartre pushed
this train of thought into mainstream culture. In the extended essay The Myth of Sisyphus, Camus
realises the only philosophical question worth asking is whether or not to commit suicide. The
absurd nature of life referred to is the incompatibility of incomprehensible circumstances such as
impending death, cruelty, violence, genocide and racism, and the overwhelming desire for, and
expectation of a happy life and the principles of optimism. One primary example of the absurd
given in the text is the co existence of the suffering and joy in life. This view of absurdity is shared
with the existentialist Simone de Beauvoir who contends that the suffering in death is a scandal .
The hostile environment, or constant, harsh circumstances are represented in the text by the
oppressive heat of the sun which is ever present at the side of Meursault s consciousness. He
feels it as he walks to his mother s funeral service through the French countryside; He feels it
beating down on him when he s out swimming with a girl, Marie; he feels its uncomfortable,
abrasive fire inescapably as he fires the bullets into the Arab s body. Meursault becomes aware of
the absurdity of life on the eve of his death as he realises that he s happy , and

Arkansas City Case Study
The Houston Texans performance against the Kansas City Chiefs wasn t pretty Saturday
afternoon. In the Texans 30 0 blowout loss to Kansas City, Houston failed to establish an
effective running game behind running back Alfred Blue, and Texans quarterback Hoyer never
got in a rhythm throwing the ball. Hoyer completed less than 50 percent of his passes and threw
four interceptions against the Chiefs as Kansas City limited the Texans primary source of offense
this season, star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. While Kansas City mostly contained Hopkins

chance of defeating the Chiefs. Kansas City s trio of pass rushers, Tamba Hali, Justin Houston, and

In recent years, Foster s nagging injuries have plagued Houston s rushing attack. With subpar
signal callers on Houston s roster, the Texans dearly missed Foster s elite talent and dynamic
ability out of the backfield down the stretch of the season. Given Foster s inability to finish most
seasons, Houston should consider developing a rookie running back to play alongside Foster in
case he suffers another injury. Arkansas Razorbacks running back Alex Collins could be that
guy. Collins, a hard nosed runner with a bruising style, could fit well into the Texans system and
his skill set could complement Foster s shiftiness. If Foster continues to show up on the injury
report, Houston could begin to transition the talented tailback to more of a third down role. The
void at quarterback is a glaring gap on an extremely well rounded Texans team. Because of
Hackenberg s previous experience with O Brien, the Texans could remain a playoff team if they
grab the Nittany Lions quarterback in the upcoming draft. If Foster can stay healthy, which he has
had trouble doing throughout his career, and if Houston selects Hackenberg, the Texans could be in
position to make some noise in the AFC South next season despite it only being Hackenberg s

Compare And Contrast The Russian Revolution And Chinese...
Throughout history, many countries have called for revolutions whose goals and outcomes affected
the government during its time, in order to enforce a change in the current form of government. In
1911, a revolution was led by Sun Yat Sen in China between the imperial government or the Qing
and the nationalists. China s revolutions eventual outcome led to a conflict between the communists
and the nationalists in China whose goals contrasted each other significantly. During World War I, a
revolution in Russia occurred, led by Vladimir Lenin in 1917. The revolution in Russia affected the
proletariat, the Bourgeoisie, and the corrupted leadership of the Tsarist government as a whole.
Although these distinct revolutions occurred in two different countries, their outcomes are similar
as they both show how communismand the inequality of the workers and classes impacted the
countries both economically and politically.

Kinship and the extended family, for example, are central to many social and economic aspects
of life for Micronesians and Samoans (Palafox amp; Warren, 1980). Social isolation has been
one of the primary causes of psychological problems and mental illness, such as depression.
Generally, families who are unhappy are more susceptible to diseases, hypertension, and suicidal

Cultural Landscape Of House Of Worship
The cultural landscape of a house of worship reflect the beliefs and practices of a particular
religion. Houses of worship have similarities and differences which are evident in the landscape
that are reflective of their similarities and differences in beliefs. I found that of all the houses of
worship we visited on our field trip, St. Michael s Antiochian Orthodox Churchand St. Martin of

St. Michael s Antiochian Orthodox Church is an eastern orthodox church. While at the church I

The differences derive from theology. Both Roman Catholics and Eastern Orthodox Catholics
understand God to exist in three forms, known as the Trinity. God is the Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit. The Father refers to God s role as the creator of the world. The Son refers to Jesus. Finally,
the Holy Spirit, they believe, enters people s souls during their daily lives. Another similarity is that
holding reverence for the saints plays a central role in the spiritual lives of Roman Catholics and
Eastern Orthodox Catholics. The physical representation of the saints tends to take different forms,
however. Roman Catholics usually use statutes to represent their saints, as evident in St. Martin of
Tours Catholic Church; meanwhile, Orthodox Catholics more often use paintings to represent their
saints, as evident at St. Michael s Antiochian Orthodox Church. Another difference between the two
is that for Roman Catholics there is a procedure for choosing officially sanctioned saints. This
process does not exist in the Orthodox community. The central doctrinal divide between the two
Christian churches concerns the Pope and his supremacy. Roman Catholics believe the Pope is the
living embodiment of Jesus. He is then, in their opinion, the head of the entire Christian religion.
Eastern Orthodox Catholics view the Pope as the head of Christianity in Rome, a geographical

Wales was just a civil system as there was no Justice. This is because lawyers were able to
charge as much as they liked. This meant that only those who were wealthy would get
representation in court as they were the only ones who could afford the absurd amounts charged
by lawyers. As the loser pays the cost, those who were not wealthy would find themselves losing
more money as they could not afford representation. This meant that the wealthier party did not
lose out as their costs would be reimbursed to them. There were also excessive documents which
were not needed. This incurred various delays with false starts. The terminology used was
archaic and therefore incomprehensible for those with no legal knowledge . This posed a
problem for those who had to represent themselves in court. What all of these show is that there
was no justice in the civil system prior to the Woolf reforms. What can be said to be the ideal

An Analysis of Aldous Huxley s Brave New World
Is texting contemporary soma?: Teens and distracted driving Aldous Huxley s Brave New
World portrays a future dystopia in which all the inhabitants merely live for pleasure. All of the
characters focus on enjoying things in the moment rather than allow themselves to experience
unpleasant truths regarding the past or future. The society even denies death and encourages
children to laugh and play around dying people to desensitize the next generation. However, as
awful as Huxley s vision may be, some of the warped thinking of the characters in the book can
be paralleled with the real life mentality of teens who engage in distracted driving. Teens who
text while driving are solely focused upon their own pleasure, and show no concern for the
needs of others. They do not show care, compassion and concern for other drivers on the road,
but are solely obsessed with their own needs. They believe that their need to know about what
the cute guy in Latin class said is more important than sparing the person s life in the car in front
of them. Nearly nine in 10 teenage drivers have engaged in distracted driving behaviors such as
texting or talking on a cellphone although most of them know that their actions increase their risk
of crashing (Copeland 2010). Nearly one in four crashes involve cell phone conversations, and
texting drivers contribute to more than 100,000 crashes each year overall ( Takata joins forces,
2011). Most teens who engage in distracted driving do not

Locke Vs Berkeley
In the Mind or In the World? Do objects exist in the Physical world? This discussion has been
around for generations. Philosophers like John Locke and George Berkeley have presented their
theories about the basics of human understanding, but both ideas are contradicting. Although both
Locke and Berkeley proved their position on whether primary qualities and secondary qualities
exist in the real world, Locke has provided a more coherent argument. In Locke s essay, An Essay
Concerning Human Understanding, he explains where and how one s knowledge was formed. He
reiterates that Whatsoever the Mindperceives in it self, or is the immediate object of Perception,
Thought, or Understanding, that I call Idea; and the Power to produce in any Idea... Show more

He as well said that humans are like objects when it comes to existence, God s idea. Berkeley
said, This perceiving, active being is what I call mind, spirit, soul or myself (Berkeley, 55).
Since he believes that everything exists in the mind, Locke s primary and secondary qualities are
only a collection of idea. Berkeley says, ...Colours and tastes exist only in the mind...and to prove
the same thing of extension, figure and motion (Berkeley, 57). Berkeley argues that ... Various
sensations, or ideas imprinted on the sense, however blended or combined together, cannot exist
otherwise in a mind perceiving them (Berkeley, 55). He explains that ideas can only resemble
ideas, therefore, external objects does not exist since it cannot create perception. When we think
about a certain object, to Berkeley, it is not that he thinks that it does not exist, rather he believes
that it is merely a collection of

1800 s America In The 1800s
During the 1800 s America was figuring out how to run a nation through trial and error. During
this period of time America faced hardships with foreign powers and with in its self, but the sweet
victories made them all worth it. In the 1800 s America learned to stand on its own, and became the
strong nation it is today.
Now, in the 1800 s America was on its third president, Thomas Jefferson. During Jefferson s term
he brought changes to the government and the American territory. A change he brought was
bringing the government closer to citizens, allowing them to have a louder voice than before.
Jefferson also gave a enormous duty to the Supreme Court of being able to declare if an act of
congress was unconstitutional. One of Jefferson s

Herbs And Spices That Can Help Manage Your Diabetes
5 Herbs and Spices That Can Help Manage Your Diabetes
Meal planning is one of the most important (and sometimes frustrating) things for those with
diabetes. It can be challenging to create dishes that provide sound nutrition, limit sugar and
carbohydrates, AND taste good. But, by focusing on whole foods that incorporate a variety of
herbs and spices, you ll find you not only develop tastier dishes, but ones that can bolster your fight
against diabetes.
The five herbs and spices on this list have been shown to assist in managing blood glucose levels
as well as reduce inflammation in the body, which can lead to insulin resistance and diabetes (along
with a whole host of other chronic diseases!)
Herbs and Spices Have Historically Been Used as Medicine
Herbs and spices have been used for thousands of years for their health benefits. Papyri from
Ancient Egypt spoke of fennel, juniper, coriander, cumin, garlic and thyme as health promoting
spices. [1] Ancient cuneiform records noted spice and herb use in Mesopotamia, where many
aromatic plants were traditionally used; and Sumerian medical literature dating from the 3rd
millennium BC mention various odoriferous plants, including thyme. [2]
Modern medicine is finally catching up to the ancients in realizing the health promoting benefits of
myriad herbs and spices. For instance, a study by the University of Georgia revealed that many
herbs and spices are a rich source of the antioxidant phenol, which can prevent inflammation and

Aristotle s Categories
It was discussed that primary substances are essential to have other substances exist. In The
Categories, Aristotle talks about the meaning and the importance of primary substances. Aristotle
states that primary substances are most properly called substances in virtue of the fact that they are
the entities which underlie everything else (Categories, 3). In other words, primary substances are
neither predicated in a sentence or present in the subject. An example of a primary substance that
was given in Categories was the individual man whereas the group would be considered the
secondary substance. The man is considered to be a primary substance because man can exist
without a subject. On the other hand, the group where a man belongs to is

Vaccines Are The Best Effective Preventative Tools Against...
Vaccines are thought to be some of the most effective preventative tools against highly infectious
disease processes and their complications. Routine vaccinations in the United States have led to
drastic declines in vaccine preventable diseases (Omer, Salmon, Orenstein, DeHart, Halsey, 2010)
such as mumps, rubella, polio, smallpox and diphtheria. These diseases are occurring at less than
1% of what they were during the pre vaccineera, especially in higher income countries. Vaccination
requirements can be traced back to 1855, when United States schools began requiring
immunizations for school entry. As a result of this requirement, vaccine coverage levels have
resulted in widespread immunity throughout the population, thus significantly... Show more content

Aside from the safety and efficacy concerns, are parental concerns that their children could not
handle the administration of simultaneous vaccinations. To combat this concern, 26% of parents
elect to follow an alternative vaccination schedule (as opposed to the schedule recommended by
the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices) and have been reported to refuse vaccines
such as those for MMR, while another 54% delay the administration of the vaccine (Shimi, 2012).
Some of the most recent parental concerns in regards to vaccine safety are a result of the
unsubstantiated link between vaccines and autism. Although unsupported by a credible body of
scientific evidence, there has been a marked increase in the number of parents refusing or delaying
vaccinations. Plain and simple, refusing immunizations places the public at great risk and can
impact the health of the community as well as the delivery and practice of public health. In 2007,
an article published within the Journal of the Medical Association paralleled the annual average
sum of cases and resulting deaths of assorted diseases before the advent of vaccines, to those
occurring just the year prior. Before the advent of an effective diphtheria vaccine in the 1930s, the

Leadership Style Of Leadership Styles Essay
Most individuals probably feel as if they know enough about leadership to speak on the subject. In
many cases, however, this is not truly the case at all. Leadership is a broad concept, and there are
several different styles and approaches to consider when studying the topic. It is important to
consider these styles and approaches when evaluating the effectiveness, or lack thereof, of any
particular form of leadership. With that in mind, this essay will consider the leadership styles of two
leaders who are involved in the current presidential election process. Jill Stein, the Green Party
candidate, and Gary Johnson, the Libertarian nominee each utilize different leadership styles,
though, the two operate within the same professional arena. That said, the two candidates share the
same battle of being outsider candidates struggling to gain notoriety and momentum from a portion
of the voting population no longer willing to support mainstream political candidates. This essay
begins with a theoretical discussion of leadership and then focuses on the two political leaders,
comparing and contrasting each one. This will allow for conclusions to be drawn about how they
both work within the same public sphere, while employing different styles to earn votes.
Leadership, according to John Kotter, is about coping with change (Kotter, 1990, p. 4). By this
definition, leadership can be considered the product of change and the different ways that response
to this change directs future

Essay about Gulf Oil case study
The Standard Oil Company of California(Socal) is trying to determine how much to bid on the
Gulf Oil Corporation. George Keller, the CEO of Socal, would need to borrow 14 billion dollars
in order to make a substantial bid. While banks are willing to lend the money because of Socal s
low to debt ratio, the loan would put the company in a highly leveraged position. In order to
alleviate that debt, some of Gulf s assets could be sold. Keller has to consider the value of Gulf s
exploration and development program when calculating future returns. Two billion dollars were
being spent on the exploration and development program. This money could instead be used to
reduce the debt if Socal acquired the company. However, the exploration program... Show more

Advised Decision A prospective buyer has to consider the motives and financial positions of
other bidders. Kohlberg wants to buyout the company in order to turn it into a private firm.
ARCO has a pretty strict limit in what it can offer because of its highly leveraged position. Even
if a company has the ability to take out a larger loan to make a greater offer, it has to consider the
consequences of doing so. While a company like Socal has unrestricted credit, its decisions as to
how to operate the company after the buyout are very limited. Creating a lot of debt in order to
finance the purchase is a large risk. If the company does not perform well in the future it could
face tremendous loss. In this case, a bid of $80 per share would be appropriate for an un
leveraged company like Socal. This would be enough to win Gulf while still leaving breathing
room for shareholders. Taxes do not need to be considered, because the benefits cancel out the

Social Blindness
Authorial figures for many years, in many countries have been brain washing citizens. Social
blindness, the misuse of technology, and individuality all have to do with a society becoming
totally blind. The societies do not understand that their so called leaders who run their country are
indoctrinating their lives. A society becomes blind by authorial figures brainwashing citizens into
thinking all the wrong attributes are right, thus leading to a society with bigger problems than
before.
To begin, social blindness is a way humans become blind folded to the worldly, economic
problems in the world. This problem of social blindness is not only displayed in the book, by Ayn
Rand, Anthem, but also in the modern day country of North Korea. In the documentary by National
Geographic about North Korea, it is stated that no one has control over their own lives,
everything is dictated by their supreme leader, Kim Jong un. He controls over the whole
country. His policy is communism. Similar to the book Anthem, he makes everyone believe how
he rules is how it is supposed to be. That is wrong. He rules as almost a God like dictator. This
has been going on for so many years, it is normal for the people of North Korea, thus making
them socially blind to the all the wrong attributes set forth by Kim Jong un. This verifies the idea
of citizens being indoctrinated because of authorial figures and the inhuman ways they rule. They
rule as a person who is way higher or above the citizens of

Video Games and Violence
There are probably millions and billions of video games sold every year to people. Some people
seem to believe that violence correlates directly with video games. Video games are something
that is usually a big interest in people at the ages of 13 to 19 years old. Video games usually start
off as a little fun and then turn into a major hobby for some people. Emotions change based on
whatever happens while a person is engaging in these games most of the time. These games are
another way to observe how people react emotionally to these games.
These video games have ratings made officially by the Entertainment Software Rating Board or
ESRB for short. Video game ratings go in a specific order ranging from Rated EC which means
Early Childhood to Rated RP which means Rating Pending. There are also more ratings in this
guide such as Rated E for Everyone and Rated T for Teens ages 13 and older ( ESRB Ratings Guide
).These video game ratings help the person who is purchasing these games by showing what age is
recommended for the person to be able to play the games.
The Entertainment Software Ratings Board also makes content descriptors. These tell the people
who are buying these games what the game they are buying contains such as, blood and gore
which contains content only for ages 18 and up. Another descriptor is known as use of drugs which
is described as anything involving illegal drugs. Violent References is another content descriptor

Car Seat Safety
As a mother to multiple children and a former nanny, I have plenty of experience in car seat
safety. Even so, it s always best to keep up with the most current info as some things will change
as we learn more. Though changes may occur, there are some things that always remain constant
with car seat safety. Choose car seats according to age and size An infant cannot ride safely in a
booster seat. Likewise, a larger child should not be riding in a rear facing infant seat. Read the
manufacturer labels and follow the advice of your child s pediatrician to determine the proper car
seat. It is generally more accurate to fit a child s car seat according to weight and height than by
age. One child may move into a booster seat at a younger age than... Show more content on

In this method, as soon as the raw bricks are cut to size, they are stacked on flatcars, slowly passed
through long, heated tunnels and after from 8 to 72 hours (depending on the type of brick) they are
dry. Now they are moved slowly through a long fire brick tunnel, where they are heated and
cooled in from 36 hours to four days, also depending on the type of brick. One of Portugal s
largest brick factories, located outside Lisbon, has a modern continuous car tunnel oven 180 m
(590 feet) long! When bricks were manufactured manually, their form and dimensions varied
widely from region to region, adapting themselves to the local necessities. However, even the
Assyrians recognized the need to standardize the dimensions of the most widely used bricks of
their time. In Portugal, the National Civil Engineering Laboratory made an inquiry of the principal
factories as to the forms and dimensions of bricks produced. The 44 factories that answered the
inquiry produced 330 different models! This great diversity caused many inconveniences, for
manufacturer and consumer alike. As bricks occupy a very important role in construction here in
Portugal, standardization would be very beneficial, not only as to quality, but also as to dimensions
and materials. With the results of this inquiry at hand, it was now necessary to determine how to
limit the existing types. Ninety nine different factories and 36 of the larger

The Leadership Styles
Leadership Styles Reflection
1. Charismatic Leaders I d just like to start off by saying that charisma isn t always a positive
thing. Some charismatic leaders do some pretty awful things. Take Jim Jones, for example a leader
of a troubled cult called the People s Temple . He used his charisma to brainwash them (really, there
isn t a better word. He quite literally brainwashed them, playing his voice continually over a
loudspeaker that was broadcasted around the entire town.) He leads them to believe that the
government was out to get them, that the government would never accept a segregation like this
one. He made them believe that the government would come and kill them eventually, that they d

Since Trump s running for President, he also fits the criteria by factoring the people s ideas into
his running. In this case, he s chosen to side with the phobic side of the spectrum... But who am I
to judge? It seems to work for him.
1ii. Authoritian Leaders A prime example of authorization leadershipis Kim Jong Un. Ruling with
an iron fist, (and being known to execute those who don t support him!) the whole of North Korea
fears and reveres him. Although this isn t a positive example of authoritian leadership, it s clearly
shown that he runs a dictatorship and nothing less. This is shown through his aggressive
punishments and surprising rewards for example, for being drunk at his father s funeral, an
assistant chief was sentenced to death. Due to these harsh punishments, the rewards seem
astronomical in comparison.
1iii. Visionary Leaders Taking a break from sociopathic leaders for now, let me introduce Albert
Einstein. In my personal opinion, he s more of an intellectual leader than anything, but he does fit
in this category with a bit of wiggling. Einstien s known for his fundamental work in the study of
space, matter, and time. Now, what makes him a visionary leader was his unwavering belief in the
scientific community, despite criticism from other scientists. He was also a key figure in the
development of nuclear weapons in the US, however he later decreed against

What ways do we loose body heat? (pg. 496 497) 1. Radiation heat loss through electromagnetic
waves (temp of skin is higher than the air, the skin loses heat to the air). 2. Conduction heat loss
by direct molecule to molecule transfer from one surface to another. (skin loses heat through
direct contact with cooler air, water, or other surfaces) 3. Convection the transfer of heat through
currents of gases or liquids. (occurs passively as warmer air at the surface of the body rises away
from the body and is replaced by cooler air process is aided by wind or fans) 4. Vasodilation
peripheral vasodilation increases heat loss by diverting the pre warmed blood to the surface of the
body. Occurs under autonomic stimulation of the hypothalamus. (depends on surrounding
temperature if surrounding air or water is not cooler than skin, the effect is minimal to nonexistent)
5. Decreased muscle tone muscle tone and heat production cannot be reduced below basaal body
requirements, therefore, this has a limited effect on decreasing heat production. 6. Evaporation
evaporation of body water from the surface of the skin and the lining of the mucous membranes is
a major source of heat reduction. Fluids are excessively secreted through sweat glands. This is
stimulated in response to sympathetic neural activity and depends on a favorable temperature
difference and the humidity of the air. Electrolytes

Milton s Inferno
In Paradise Lost Milton breaks down the universe into three layers: Heaven, Earth and finally
Hell. The top layer belongs to Heaven, this is due to the fact that God created Earth and as a
result the deserting Angels created Hell. The second layer is Earth due to its close ties to both and
the final layer is Hell. Milton employs contrasts in order to establish the perception of Heaven
and Hell he wants to convey to his readers. In Milton s universe Hell is continuously described as
filled with darkness, sorrow and eternal punishment for the demons that were once Angel s under
God s command. In book 1 Milton refers to Hell as a dungeon horrible, on all sides round, As one

Faustus Marlowe portrays hell as limitless. This is similar to Milton s portrayal of Hell because
neither are confined to a specific place but instead can be found everywhere. Mephistophilis
establishes this when he reveals to Faustus that Hell hath no limits, nor is circumscribed In one
self place; for where we are is hell, And where hell is, there must we ever be... (5.120 124).
However, unlike Milton, Marlowe doesn t classify hell as a state of mind. In Dr. Faustus a
person s mind is not what allows Hell to be everywhere at once, what allows this is the absence
of God. As discussed earlier, Marlowe establishes that Heaven is found only in the presence of
God and wherever God is missing, there is hell, Mephastopilis confirms this when he says ...all
places shall be hell that is not heaven (5.125). This further emphasizes the that anywhere in
which God is absent should be considered heaven the The only sure way to go to hell, is to
denounce God, even those who have sinned can be saved as long as they repent. Unlike Milton,
Marlowe fights throughout his work against the concept of hell as a state of mind. Faustus
originally believes that there is no Hell, that it is simply a frame of mind which is why he is so
willing to take Lucifer s deal in exchange of getting what he wants. At the end of the last act
Faustus is taken by Hell and he finally realizes that what he believed about the existence of hell is
false and that Hell is as real as he is but the

Humbert portrays Charlotte as an obstacle and wishes, for some terrific disaster where Charlotte is,

to this parallel, Charlotte, like the evil fairy mothers and stepmothers in Cinderella and Snow White

Ludwig Van Beethoven And The Classical Era
Ludwig van Beethoven was a German composer and a predominant musical figure that created
the bridge from the classical era to the Romantic era. At a young age, Beethoven became
interested in music, which gave his father, Johann van Beethoven, the idea of making him the
next child prodigy like Mozart. Beethoven was brutally pushed to achieve the goal/dream of his
father. However, at the age of 13 he had to take on the responsibility of providing for the family
since his father was no longer able to. With his newly given responsibility, he requested a job at
the courthouse where he was assign as an assistant court organist earning an annual pay of 150
florins. Beethoven played both the piano and the organ and was very skilled at it, so in 1787,
the court decided to send him to study with Mozart in Vienna. Beethoven later rose to fame with
his musical pieces, but then became deaf in his early 20s, which made him aggravated. Not only
was he angry that one of his most valuable possession was gone, but also of his harsh childhood.
Beethoven died on March 27, 1827, in Vienna. Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany December
16, 1770. He had four siblings originally, but unfortunately, his brother before him died just six
days after birth. His other brother Anton Karl was born in April 1774, his second brother Nikolaus
Johann was born in October 1776, and his only sister Maria Margaretha Josepha was born in1786.
However, out of all his siblings, Beethoven had the most difficult

Themes In The Fall Of The House Of Usher
An expert in grotesque and arabesque writing, Edgar Allan Poe is known for his great
contributions to the Gothic style of writing literature. Poe has a very unique and dark way of
writing. His mysterious style of writing appeals to many readers because of it is unlike many
other writers. Many of his stories tend to have the same recurring theme of either death or lost
love. In The Fall of the House of Usher , however, we see both death and lost love as the major
theme. In this short story, Roderick faces mental illness and the loss of his precious sister, Lady
Madeline. In The Fall of the House of Usher , Poe includes other narratives and poems within the
story. One of the poems he includes is The Haunted Palace. The Haunted Palace begins with very
positive vibes using the phrases happy valley and gentle air in order to paint a picture of a
beautiful haven. However, in the 5th stanza, the mood drastically changes. Evil spirits appear
and invade the haven. Phrases like ghastly river and robes of sorrow now stain the purity of the
previously established beauty of the supposed radiant palace . This poem has a great
significance in accordance with The Fall of the House of Usher specifically its correlation in
themes. The transition of good to evil in The Haunted Palace is very similar to the narrator s
views towards the House of Usher. In the beginning of The Fall of the House of Usher , the
narrator approaches the House of Usher and is disgusted with the

Loyalty In Julius Caesar
In Shakespeare s play, Julius Caesar, the character Mark Antony remains the same throughout the
play making him a static character. Antony s character has a wide variety of character traits but
most of them remain unchanged throughout the play. And so even though Antony is a well
rounded character he is still static because his many character traits remain the same. Some
examples of Antony s traits that remain constant are his loyalty to Caesar, his manipulative
behavior, his selfishness, and his honor. Antony is loyal to Caesar from the beginning of the
play through the end of it. He shows his loyalty to Caesar at the beginning of the play when he
says I shall remember: when Caesar says do this, it is perform d. (1, 2, 93). When Antony says
this he is only responding to Caesar s request to touch his wife Calphurnia as he runs past in a race
but this still shows Antony s willingness to follow what Caesar says. When Antony says this he is
essentially stating that he is willing to follow any order that Caesar gives him to demonstrate his
loyalty. Antony demonstrates his loyalty again later in the play... Show more content on

His first display of honor was when after Caesar was killed he vowed to seek revenge by saying
domestic fury and civil strife will cumber all the parts of Italy (3, 1, 278 279). Antony believes
that a civil war is what is needed to stop the conspirators from gaining power and to avenge
Caesar s death. This part of the play shows that Antony is honorable because he is respecting his
friend by avenging his wrongful death. At the end of the play Antony has another display of honor
when he pays respect to Brutus by saying this was the noblest Roman of them all (5, 5, 74). In this
line Antony recognizes Brutus s integrity. He shows that he has respect for Brutus s character even
though he was one of the conspirators. Antony s honor remains with him for the entire course of the
play making it a constant

Accidents Happen By Edgar Snyder Associates Essay
Accidents Happen According to Edgar Snyder Associates, there were 2,823 motor vehicle
accidents among people ages 13 to 19 years old in 2012. On a rainy day in October of 2015,
when I was 18 years old I got into a car wreck while I was driving to work. Be careful when
driving, you never know when an accident will happen to you. When I woke up that morning I
had no idea what the day had in store for me. To start off, I had gotten up late and I was rushing
through my morning routine. I needed to be at work by 8:30 am and I kept my eyes on the
clock. I really did not want to be late, after all I had only just started working there a few weeks
ago. When I finally had myself all ready, it was 8:20 am. It takes me fifteen minutes to get to
work in Springfield from Williamsville and I knew that if I wanted to get there on time I would
need to hurry. As I went outside to my car I noticed that it was sprinkling rain. I started my car
and I was off. I was speeding and trying to make it through every light without stopping. All the
while I was still concerned with the music I had playing, constantly changing the station. I was
getting close to work now and it was about 8:27 am. I had just passed over the Sangamon River
and was approaching Freedom gas station where I needed to turn left onto Dirksen Parkway. The
light rain was still coming down as I got closer to the turn lane. I soon realized that quite a few
cars were backed up at the light ahead of me. I started to get over into

Fan C. Baker Lab
The purpose of this lab was to determine the murderer of Fan C. Baker given samples of a pen
used to falsify Fan C. Baker s last will and testament and an unknown white solid from the crime
scene using both paper chromatography and physical property tests. We accomplished this
purpose by conducting a series of tests on both the crime scene samples and a collection of
substances known to be possible matches. To determine the nature of the ink sample, we used
paper chromatography to separate and examine the various pigmented chemicals in each possible
type of marker. After careful cross examination, we determined that ink sample B (the ink found at
the crime scene) matched the ink sample of the Vis Г vis marker. Both ink samples displayed a
range of pigmentation from light to dark grey, with a bright blue rim on the ethyl alcohol
chromatography test and a yellow pink magenta purple blue progression on the water
chromatography test.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We discovered that the acetic acid reacted only with baking soda and sample #2. The acetic acid
did not react with the sucrose or the table salt. During the conductivity test, the conductivity meter
showed that the aqueous form of each substance, sample 2 included, conducted electricity. As the
conductivity test produced no conclusive data, we based our determination of sample 2 s nature
on the reaction with acetic acid. Sample 2 s reaction was only comparable to that of baking soda,
leading us to believe sample 2 is indeed baking

* If you do not plan to use the computer for a while, try either turning it off, or putting it into a
power save mode. This will allow the computer to take a break and cool off for a while. * Try to
avoid having a computer placed right next to a floor heater of any kind as this will just increase the
amount of external heat being taken in by the computer.
With these few simple steps you are on your way to having a cooler safer computer, but there are
other issues to look out for, leading me into my next topic.
Dust!!! Now don t get me wrong, I m not saying anyone has a dirty house, but it s a fact that dust
is everywhere. There is no real way to avoid it. I don t know what it is, but I swear computers
live to suck in dirt and dust and just let it sit there. I tend to clean my computer twice a year
because I can barely see through the vent fans anymore. Try some of these tips to help out: * Use
a vacuum with a bristle head to lightly clean the vent fans and the computer case. This also
works for laptops. The bristles are a good way to remove loads of dirt and dust and to make sure
your computer can vent properly. * Canned Air is a must for any computer technician; I know we
have loads of it at work. You can buy it at any store, really, from Staples to Stop amp; Shop. Take

Sacred Spaces In Thomas A. Tweed s Space
In Space , Thomas A. Tweed characterizes sacred space as differentiated, kinetic, and interrelated
in sum. While Jerusalem has not always met all the criteria of a Great City, it s depiction through
biblical texts certainly meets Tweed s criteria of sacred space. Spaces are organized on a spectrum
from undifferentiated to differentiated. Even if a place is set apart and above others, there are
different levels of differentiation. On this spectrum, Jerusalem is one (if not the most) differentiated
spaceon earth. For a long time, Jerusalem was seen as the center of the world, or axis mundi. To
many, it still is. It is the setting in the bibleof many out of the ordinary event, of theophanies and
hierophanies, it is the Holy Land. Jerusalem... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By doing so he is making Jerusalem the established and distinguishable capital of Israel. A once
of the beaten trail Jerusalem is now the home of the Ark of the Covenant. If it had not already
been differentiated, now it is. By being close to this object, people feel closer to God. While this
is a religious act by David to curry with God, but it is also a smart political move to exalt
Jerusalem as the capital of government and to attract people to it. Furthermore, David tries to
appeal to the people of Jerusalem (as many kings have done throughout time) by distributing
food to his people. After the Ark of the Covenant was brought to the City of David, He gave each
Israelite man and woman a loaf of bread. He also gave each one a date cake and a raisin cake (2
Sam. 6:19 NIRV) In Chapter 7, God promises David a royal house (2 Sam. 7:11 NIRV) David s
reign and the succession of his children is not only supported by God, but established by him.
How can the people object to his rule if God chose him. Lastly, it is a bit ambiguous, but very
relevant how Michal, David s wife and the daughter of Solomon, looks at David out the window
and feels hatred for him. Through a political lense, this can be interpreted and jealousy for David
as he succeeded King Saul without being his son while her father and brother are dead. She may
envy his position, while being his wife must

Factors That Affect The Growth And Germination Rates Were...
Plants are an essential part of survival for humans and animals and contribute significantly to
various areas of the lives of organisms. In order to better understand the different plants and its
requirements the growth and germination rates were investigated. The hypothesis stated that if the
dicotolydeons and monocotyledons are placed in the same environment and watered regularly, then
the dicotyledons will have a faster growth and germination rate.
In order for plants to survive, it is a necessity for the process of photosynthesis to occur.
Photosynthesis is the process wherein plants create oxygen and food for themselves (glucose) using
carbon dioxide, water and energy from the sun. Once this process is completed, plants are able to
grow using the nutrients provided by photosynthesis.
Word equation: carbon dioxide + water (SUNLIGHT AND CHLORYPHYLL) glucose + oxygen
There are many factors that affect photosynthesis such as light availability, carbon dioxide
concentration and temperature. Light is a limiting factor as if there is not enough light available,
the rate of photosynthesis will decrease. This is because without the light, the chlorophyll (not be
created) will be unable to absorb energy from the sun, resulting in no food which is required for
survival. Temperature plays an essential role in photosynthesis as well. As the temperature
increases, so does the rate of photosynthesis. As it is a chemical reaction, an increase in temperature
will cause enzymes and

In all more than four hundred and thirty six thousand of the Enfield pattern were purchased by the United States government during the war (Davis 59). Those purchased came in two different forms machine made and handmade models coming mostly from Birmingham and London. The effect of this production on English gun makers was an expansion of wages twenty pounds became the common wage per week increasing from three prior to the war. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prior to the war the Ordinance Bureau had decided to begin evaluating breech loading carbines for the cavalry. Ripley opposed breech loaders or repeating rifles for infantry use. There was a belief that they would waste ammunition, and were expensive. His main complaint was that the production of these weapons would curtail production of carbines. He saw the inherent advantage of the breechloader for mounted service. It was far simpler to reload from horseback than a muzzle loading arm. Because of this there many options for domestic carbines at the start of the war. The Sharps carbine was the weapon that the North wanted. The Sharps Company would produce over eighty thousand carbines during the war. But these were not enough. In response to the demand for carbines various other arms of good quality such as the Smith and Burnside were acquired. Some others of lesser quality such as the Cosmopolitan and Maynard were also purchased at this time. Carbine production was centered in Massachusetts also. Smith carbines, of which large numbers were ordered by the Government, were built in part by Massachusetts Arms, and in part by the nearby American Machine Works in Springfield (Edwards 102). • 3. Failure of the Belmont Report One. The Belmont Report has failed to distinguish different sources including the kinds of vulnerability or to map particular protections to particular vulnerabilities (Rogers Lange, 2013). This can be a problem because different kinds of vulnerability justify different responses. Nickel (2006) claims that there are two overlapping senses of vulnerability at work with the Belmont Report and in following human research ethics guidelines (p.2141). The first relates to the capacity to give informed consent, which the Belmont Report connects to the principle of respect for autonomy (Nickel, 2006). The second is the sense of vulnerability, as explained by Nickel, which relates to the Belmont Reports principles of justice meaning fairness (Nickel, 2006). The concern here is that vulnerable groups may be overrepresented in research for example, when the group lacks understanding or power to refuse participation (Rogers Lange, 2013). This is explicit in the Belmont Report. Within the study, it was also explained that vulnerable groups may be excluded from research and thereby be excluded from the benefits of participation in clinical trials and subsequent access to treatments for which research evidence exists (Nickel, 2006). Research ethics guidelines that simply list groups likely to be vulnerable run a risk of stereotyping, and of the consequent harms of unjustified exclusion of research (Rogers Lange, 2013, p. 2141). • 5. Explain The Spanish Conquest Of The Aztec Disease Conquest The Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire was both quick and easy. There are many factors that may have contributed to the Spanish Conquistadors ability to defeat and conquer a city of more than 200,000 people (LoМЃpez LujaМЃn Levin, 2005). Two of these factors were the introduction of small pox to the Mesoamerican people and the alliances that Henan CortГ©s forged with enemies of the AztecEmpire. The Aztecs gained economically through warfare and did not care to control territorially. They were more concerned with tribute to bring in and support TenochtitlГЎn, than the land itself (Paine, The Aztecs, 2015). • 7. The Maternal Light Environment Of Campanulastrum... In a 2005 and 2007 study by L. Galloway, the maternal light environment of Campanulastrum americanum was shown to influence the offspring s germination season by altering the maternal flowering time. C. americanum, also known as the American bellflower, is a native understory fern. Individuals can grow in either the forest understory or in light gaps, therefore, individuals will experience no direct sunlight, or full sunlight for some length of time, daily. Individuals within the C. americanum species are capable of having one of two life history strategies. The relationship between maternal light environment and flowering time can influence the offspring s life history strategy by dictating whether the individuals grow as annuals or biennials. A majority of seeds in light gaps became annuals, germinating in the fall and flowering immediately the next summer, while a majority of the understory seeds grew as biennial individuals, germinating in the spring and growing for a season before flowering their second year. As the study results support, these flowering phenologies are two different life history strategies that have been influenced by maternal effects. The study results have shown that twice as many seeds germinated in light gaps if their mother had grown within the gap, and that twice as many seeds germinated in the understory if their mother had also grown there. The population growth for individuals grown outside of their mother s environment was determined to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is easier to purchase home alarm systems and everything that goes on in a person s home is controlled by the owner. First published in French as L Etranger in 1942, Albert Camus The Outsider addresses the constrictive nature of society and what happens when an individual tries to break free from the conformity forced upon him by staying true to himself, and following his own ideal of absolute truth and sincerity in every action. Existentialism refers to the philosophy that questions life which exists in a hostile environment. Camus, along with his friend, fellow writer, and French Resistance leader Jean Paul Sartre pushed this train of thought into mainstream culture. In the extended essay The Myth of Sisyphus, Camus realises the only philosophical question worth asking is whether or not to commit suicide. The absurd nature of life referred to is the incompatibility of incomprehensible circumstances such as impending death, cruelty, violence, genocide and racism, and the overwhelming desire for, and expectation of a happy life and the principles of optimism. One primary example of the absurd given in the text is the co existence of the suffering and joy in life. This view of absurdity is shared with the existentialist Simone de Beauvoir who contends that the suffering in death is a scandal . The hostile environment, or constant, harsh circumstances are represented in the text by the oppressive heat of the sun which is ever present at the side of Meursault s consciousness. He feels it as he walks to his mother s funeral service through the French countryside; He feels it beating down on him when he s out swimming with a girl, Marie; he feels its uncomfortable, abrasive fire inescapably as he fires the bullets into the Arab s body. Roman Catholics usually use statutes to represent their saints, as evident in St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church; meanwhile, Orthodox Catholics more often use paintings to represent their saints, as evident at St. Michael s Antiochian Orthodox Church. Another difference between the two is that for Roman Catholics there is a procedure for choosing officially sanctioned saints. This process does not exist in the Orthodox community. The central doctrinal divide between the two Christian churches concerns the Pope and his supremacy. Roman Catholics believe the Pope is the living embodiment of Jesus. He is then, in their opinion, the head of the entire Christian religion. Eastern Orthodox Catholics view the Pope as the head of Christianity in Rome, a geographical ... To determine whether the current Civil Justice System of England and Wales is adequate in delivering access to justice, it is necessary to look at the system prior to the Woolf reforms, the implementations made by the Woolf reforms and the implementations made by the Jackson reforms. The Civil Justice System of England and Wales prior to the Woolf reforms Prior to the Woolf reforms, the Civil Justice System of England and Wales was just a civil system as there was no Justice. This is because lawyers were able to charge as much as they liked. This meant that only those who were wealthy would get representation in court as they were the only ones who could afford the absurd amounts charged by lawyers. As the loser pays the cost, those who were not wealthy would find themselves losing more money as they could not afford representation. This meant that the wealthier party did not lose out as their costs would be reimbursed to them. There were also excessive documents which were not needed. This incurred various delays with false starts. The terminology used was archaic and therefore incomprehensible for those with no legal knowledge . This posed a problem for those who had to represent themselves in court. What all of these show is that there was no justice in the civil system prior to the Woolf reforms. • 20. An Analysis of Aldous Huxley s Brave New World Is texting contemporary soma?: Teens and distracted driving Aldous Huxley s Brave New World portrays a future dystopia in which all the inhabitants merely live for pleasure. All of the characters focus on enjoying things in the moment rather than allow themselves to experience unpleasant truths regarding the past or future. The society even denies death and encourages children to laugh and play around dying people to desensitize the next generation. However, as awful as Huxley s vision may be, some of the warped thinking of the characters in the book can be paralleled with the real life mentality of teens who engage in distracted driving. Teens who text while driving are solely focused upon their own pleasure, and show no concern for the needs of others. They do not show care, compassion and concern for other drivers on the road, but are solely obsessed with their own needs. They believe that their need to know about what the cute guy in Latin class said is more important than sparing the person s life in the car in front of them. Nearly nine in 10 teenage drivers have engaged in distracted driving behaviors such as texting or talking on a cellphone although most of them know that their actions increase their risk of crashing (Copeland 2010). Nearly one in four crashes involve cell phone conversations, and texting drivers contribute to more than 100,000 crashes each year overall ( Takata joins forces, 2011). Philosophers like John Locke and George Berkeley have presented their theories about the basics of human understanding, but both ideas are contradicting. Although both Locke and Berkeley proved their position on whether primary qualities and secondary qualities exist in the real world, Locke has provided a more coherent argument. In Locke s essay, An Essay Concerning Human Understanding, he explains where and how one s knowledge was formed. Berkeley says, ...Colours and tastes exist only in the mind...and to prove the same thing of extension, figure and motion (Berkeley, 57). Berkeley argues that ... In many cases, however, this is not truly the case at all. Leadership is a broad concept, and there are several different styles and approaches to consider when studying the topic. It is important to consider these styles and approaches when evaluating the effectiveness, or lack thereof, of any particular form of leadership. With that in mind, this essay will consider the leadership styles of two leaders who are involved in the current presidential election process. Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate, and Gary Johnson, the Libertarian nominee each utilize different leadership styles, though, the two operate within the same professional arena. That said, the two candidates share the same battle of being outsider candidates struggling to gain notoriety and momentum from a portion of the voting population no longer willing to support mainstream political candidates. This essay begins with a theoretical discussion of leadership and then focuses on the two political leaders, comparing and contrasting each one. This will allow for conclusions to be drawn about how they both work within the same public sphere, while employing different styles to earn votes. Leadership, according to John Kotter, is about coping with change (Kotter, 1990, p. 4). Social blindness, the misuse of technology, and individuality all have to do with a society becoming totally blind. The societies do not understand that their so called leaders who run their country are indoctrinating their lives. A society becomes blind by authorial figures brainwashing citizens into thinking all the wrong attributes are right, thus leading to a society with bigger problems than before. To begin, social blindness is a way humans become blind folded to the worldly, economic problems in the world. This problem of social blindness is not only displayed in the book, by Ayn Rand, Anthem, but also in the modern day country of North Korea. In the documentary by National Geographic about North Korea, it is stated that no one has control over their own lives, everything is dictated by their supreme leader, Kim Jong un. He controls over the whole country. His policy is communism. Similar to the book Anthem, he makes everyone believe how he rules is how it is supposed to be. That is wrong. He rules as almost a God like dictator. This has been going on for so many years, it is normal for the people of North Korea, thus making them socially blind to the all the wrong attributes set forth by Kim Jong un. This verifies the idea of citizens being indoctrinated because of authorial figures and the inhuman ways they rule. They rule as a person who is way higher or above the citizens of ... With his newly given responsibility, he requested a job at the courthouse where he was assign as an assistant court organist earning an annual pay of 150 florins. Beethoven played both the piano and the organ and was very skilled at it, so in 1787, the court decided to send him to study with Mozart in Vienna. Beethoven later rose to fame with his musical pieces, but then became deaf in his early 20s, which made him aggravated. • 40. Themes In The Fall Of The House Of Usher An expert in grotesque and arabesque writing, Edgar Allan Poe is known for his great contributions to the Gothic style of writing literature. Poe has a very unique and dark way of writing. His mysterious style of writing appeals to many readers because of it is unlike many other writers. Many of his stories tend to have the same recurring theme of either death or lost love. In The Fall of the House of Usher , however, we see both death and lost love as the major theme. In this short story, Roderick faces mental illness and the loss of his precious sister, Lady Madeline. In The Fall of the House of Usher , Poe includes other narratives and poems within the story. One of the poems he includes is The Haunted Palace. The Haunted Palace begins with very positive vibes using the phrases happy valley and gentle air in order to paint a picture of a beautiful haven. However, in the 5th stanza, the mood drastically changes. Evil spirits appear and invade the haven. Phrases like ghastly river and robes of sorrow now stain the purity of the previously established beauty of the supposed radiant palace . This poem has a great significance in accordance with The Fall of the House of Usher specifically its correlation in themes. The transition of good to evil in The Haunted Palace is very similar to the narrator s views towards the House of Usher. In the beginning of The Fall of the House of Usher , the narrator approaches the House of Usher and is disgusted with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Loyalty In Julius Caesar In Shakespeare s play, Julius Caesar, the character Mark Antony remains the same throughout the play making him a static character. Antony s character has a wide variety of character traits but most of them remain unchanged throughout the play. And so even though Antony is a well rounded character he is still static because his many character traits remain the same. Some examples of Antony s traits that remain constant are his loyalty to Caesar, his manipulative behavior, his selfishness, and his honor. Antony is loyal to Caesar from the beginning of the play through the end of it. He shows his loyalty to Caesar at the beginning of the play when he says I shall remember: when Caesar says do this, it is perform d. (1, 2, 93). When Antony says this he is only responding to Caesar s request to touch his wife Calphurnia as he runs past in a race but this still shows Antony s willingness to follow what Caesar says. When Antony says this he is essentially stating that he is willing to follow any order that Caesar gives him to demonstrate his loyalty. Antony demonstrates his loyalty again later in the play... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His first display of honor was when after Caesar was killed he vowed to seek revenge by saying domestic fury and civil strife will cumber all the parts of Italy (3, 1, 278 279). Antony believes that a civil war is what is needed to stop the conspirators from gaining power and to avenge Caesar s death. This part of the play shows that Antony is honorable because he is respecting his friend by avenging his wrongful death. At the end of the play Antony has another display of honor when he pays respect to Brutus by saying this was the noblest Roman of them all (5, 5, 74). In this line Antony recognizes Brutus s integrity. He shows that he has respect for Brutus s character even though he was one of the conspirators. Antony s honor remains with him for the entire course of the play making it a constant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Accidents Happen By Edgar Snyder Associates Essay Accidents Happen According to Edgar Snyder Associates, there were 2,823 motor vehicle accidents among people ages 13 to 19 years old in 2012. On a rainy day in October of 2015, when I was 18 years old I got into a car wreck while I was driving to work. Be careful when driving, you never know when an accident will happen to you. When I woke up that morning I had no idea what the day had in store for me. To start off, I had gotten up late and I was rushing through my morning routine. I needed to be at work by 8:30 am and I kept my eyes on the clock. I really did not want to be late, after all I had only just started working there a few weeks ago. When I finally had myself all ready, it was 8:20 am. It takes me fifteen minutes to get to work in Springfield from Williamsville and I knew that if I wanted to get there on time I would need to hurry. As I went outside to my car I noticed that it was sprinkling rain. I started my car and I was off. I was speeding and trying to make it through every light without stopping. All the while I was still concerned with the music I had playing, constantly changing the station. I was getting close to work now and it was about 8:27 am. I had just passed over the Sangamon River and was approaching Freedom gas station where I needed to turn left onto Dirksen Parkway. The light rain was still coming down as I got closer to the turn lane. I soon realized that quite a few cars were backed up at the light ahead of me. I started to get over into ... • 43. Fan C. Baker Lab The purpose of this lab was to determine the murderer of Fan C. Baker given samples of a pen used to falsify Fan C. Baker s last will and testament and an unknown white solid from the crime scene using both paper chromatography and physical property tests. We accomplished this purpose by conducting a series of tests on both the crime scene samples and a collection of substances known to be possible matches. To determine the nature of the ink sample, we used paper chromatography to separate and examine the various pigmented chemicals in each possible type of marker. After careful cross examination, we determined that ink sample B (the ink found at the crime scene) matched the ink sample of the Vis Г vis marker. Both ink samples displayed a range of pigmentation from light to dark grey, with a bright blue rim on the ethyl alcohol chromatography test and a yellow pink magenta purple blue progression on the water chromatography test.... During the conductivity test, the conductivity meter showed that the aqueous form of each substance, sample 2 included, conducted electricity. As the conductivity test produced no conclusive data, we based our determination of sample 2 s nature on the reaction with acetic acid. Sample 2 s reaction was only comparable to that of baking soda, leading us to believe sample 2 is indeed baking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Sacred Spaces In Thomas A. Tweed s Space In Space , Thomas A. Tweed characterizes sacred space as differentiated, kinetic, and interrelated in sum. While Jerusalem has not always met all the criteria of a Great City, it s depiction through biblical texts certainly meets Tweed s criteria of sacred space. Spaces are organized on a spectrum from undifferentiated to differentiated. Even if a place is set apart and above others, there are different levels of differentiation. On this spectrum, Jerusalem is one (if not the most) differentiated spaceon earth. For a long time, Jerusalem was seen as the center of the world, or axis mundi. To many, it still is. It is the setting in the bibleof many out of the ordinary event, of theophanies and hierophanies, it is the Holy Land. Jerusalem... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By doing so he is making Jerusalem the established and distinguishable capital of Israel. A once of the beaten trail Jerusalem is now the home of the Ark of the Covenant. If it had not already been differentiated, now it is. By being close to this object, people feel closer to God. While this is a religious act by David to curry with God, but it is also a smart political move to exalt Jerusalem as the capital of government and to attract people to it. Furthermore, David tries to appeal to the people of Jerusalem (as many kings have done throughout time) by distributing food to his people. After the Ark of the Covenant was brought to the City of David, He gave each Israelite man and woman a loaf of bread. He also gave each one a date cake and a raisin cake (2 Sam. 6:19 NIRV) In Chapter 7, God promises David a royal house (2 Sam. 7:11 NIRV) David s reign and the succession of his children is not only supported by God, but established by him. How can the people object to his rule if God chose him. Lastly, it is a bit ambiguous, but very relevant how Michal, David s wife and the daughter of Solomon, looks at David out the window and feels hatred for him. Through a political lense, this can be interpreted and jealousy for David as he succeeded King Saul without being his son while her father and brother are dead. • 47. Factors That Affect The Growth And Germination Rates Were... Plants are an essential part of survival for humans and animals and contribute significantly to various areas of the lives of organisms. In order to better understand the different plants and its requirements the growth and germination rates were investigated. The hypothesis stated that if the dicotolydeons and monocotyledons are placed in the same environment and watered regularly, then the dicotyledons will have a faster growth and germination rate. In order for plants to survive, it is a necessity for the process of photosynthesis to occur. Photosynthesis is the process wherein plants create oxygen and food for themselves (glucose) using carbon dioxide, water and energy from the sun. Once this process is completed, plants are able to grow using the nutrients provided by photosynthesis. Word equation: carbon dioxide + water (SUNLIGHT AND CHLORYPHYLL) glucose + oxygen There are many factors that affect photosynthesis such as light availability, carbon dioxide concentration and temperature. Light is a limiting factor as if there is not enough light available, the rate of photosynthesis will decrease. This is because without the light, the chlorophyll (not be created) will be unable to absorb energy from the sun, resulting in no food which is required for survival. Temperature plays an essential role in photosynthesis as well. As the temperature increases, so does the rate of photosynthesis. As it is a chemical reaction, an increase in temperature will cause enzymes and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
