Essays On The Principle Of Population
Goblin Market Vs Little Dorrit
During the Victorian era, a woman s influence was restricted mainly to domestic spheres, being
the angel of the house and tireless supporter of her husband. These gender roles were societally
enforced, as women lacked the necessary rights to move up financially or socially without a
husband. For women, the only possible moral actions come from choosing to stay pure or being
lured by temptation, thereby becoming immoral. In two texts, Rossetti s Goblin Market and
Dickens Little Dorrit, young women are presented as lessons adhering to this morality, being
rewarded for purity and servitude or punished for perceived immorality. Women were supposed to
restrain themselves from any temptation, becoming subservient to a husband as the angel of... Show

For each pair of sisters, the only choice comes from the idea of choosing or not choosing to resist
temptation. In Goblin Market, Laura s decision to interact with the Goblin men is characterized
as a choice of having power over herself, her making the decisions when [her] last restraint is
gone (Rossetti, 418). When she gives in to this temptation, she is corrupted by the Goblins,
unlike Lizzie, who stands strong and stays pure. This idea of temptation and choice is paralleled
in Fanny s and Amy s attitudes regarding devotion. When explaining to Amy that unhappiness is
just her fate in life, due to her personality, Amy tells her that If you loved any one, you would no
more be yourself, but you would quite lose and forget yourself in your devotion to him (Dickens,
381). The implication that Fanny is only herself because she loves no one shows her lack of
dedication to the basic female morality, loving and being devoted to a man. Fanny is rejecting the
role as angel of the house, and therefore is deviating from what is seen as moral through her own
choosing. Representing choices in a binary takes power away from women, as the only agency
they have over their actions is to choose negative actions. If they choose, even of their own will,
something that is seen as deviating from the baseline of women s actions, they are instantly branded
as immoral and therefore shunned by

Lockheed Martin Case Study
Teams
The team aspect of Lockheed Martin in my opinion would be generalized as a traditional works
groups, meaning there is responsibility at the top of the group with support provided by others.
However, when it comes to their product development department, there must be more of a
participative leadership to encourage employee ideas and innovation. Relating back to the story of
Skunkworks , when Clarence Kelly Johnson s team designed and built the first tactical jet fighter,
Kelly s promotion of innovation and creativity amongst his team helped to not only complete the
project but to complete it ahead of schedule. This style of leadership promoted pride in the product
which made each team member feel as though they had a personal stake ... Show more content on

Personally, I suspect that this is not a feature often utilized and if an employee has an idea or
suggestion it is often communicated directly to their immediate supervisor who then may or may
not continue to the remake up the ladder. This can create boundaries to the communication within
the company however I believe with the employee s ready access to information and the
encouragement of communication from top managers, Lockheed Martin will continue to improve in
this area.
Wrap Up Lockheed Martin began as a small venture of two individuals who passionately believed in
their product and the future of aviation. In their passion, a company was formed that would go
through highs and lows both in leadership, reputation and production development. Their
management philosophy of make it better combined with their lean management approach ensures
that the product is made to the best quality while eliminating cumbersome manufacturing or
environmental wastes. Their strengths and weaknesses can be measured by the outside factors that
they face. They continue to be the largest defense product provider in the world however they face
factors outside their control which could upset the very structure and existence of their company.
They migrate this risk by diversifying their products and expanding their involvement in projects
across the world. This diversification has led to the company spreading across the world and
increased its need to maintain a solid organizational

Diotima s Speech Analysis
Through the speakers presented in the Symposium, Plato showcases a variety of viewpoints about
the essence, worth, and expression of love. Though it can be argued that Plato suggests that love
is determined by how an individual chooses to interpret it, I will be arguing that he supports the
idea that there is a difference between true love and false love. These differences in the forms of
love can be seen through the ideas expressed in Pausanias speech, Eryximachus speech, and finally,
Diotima s speech which was expressed through Socratesspeech. While the first two speech serve to
portray that there is a difference, Platoshowcases his opinions through Diotima s speech. She
defines true love as the appreciation of the abstract idea of Beauty.... Show more content on

Her argument is similar to theirs in the sense that they all establish a clear divide between
different types, or levels, of love. In Diotima s case, the false part of false love doesn t mean
incorrect, but means that it is the beginning stage that is on the path towards true love. Being on
the lower parts of the ladder would be expressing false love in this case, but this false love has the
potential to turn into true love. Using Diotima s speech and Socrates comments and recollection of
their conversation proves that Plato is in agreement with this perspective. Diotima was not present
to recite her speech in The Symposium, but her speech was recounted by Socrates. The fact that
her speech was recounted in this fashion shows Plato s agreement with her perspective, because
he is known for including his commentary and viewpoints through Socrates in his books. This is
further proven in translator R.E. Allen s comments about the Ladder of Love section when he
states, It has been suggested that in the opening words of this section, Plato intimates that what
is to follow goes beyond the teaching of the historical Socrates, that the revelation of the
transcendental Form of Beauty is peculiarly Plato s own. (78). This allows for Diotima s
comments on love to be read as Plato s and it is highly likely that he is contributing his own
thoughts in his recollection of the conversation between Diotima and Socrates. Plato also usually
agrees with Socrates, and since Socrates uses his conversation with Diotima in his speech, Plato
agrees as well. Because he agrees with her perspective, he believes that there is a difference
between true and false love, based off the differences that Diotima noted in

The Effects Of Fossil Fuels And High Levels Of Greenhouse...
Introduction
The phrase sustainable development is defined as meeting the needs of the present without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. To create an impact on
lowering the usage of fossil fuels and high levels of greenhouse gases there are several different
forms of renewable energy available for worldwide use today. This includes biofuels (bioethanol
and biodiesel), biomass, geothermal energy, hydroelectric power stations, solar powered cells, and
wind turbines to name a handful of sources of energy. Solar energy from the sun can also be
derived to produce photochemical, photoelectric, and photovoltaic energy to diversify its format.
By increasing uses of fossil fuels we endanger ourselves with the ... Show more content on

The protocol agreement suggested countries were required to reduce their greenhouse gas
emissions to 5% against levels produced in 1990. A further extension was agreed to depreciate the
emissions by 18% below the levels in 1990 during an eight year time period from 2013 to 2020.
The triple bottom line (TBL) effect is taken into consideration when used to describe the
sustainability of an industry. This is an accounting framework measuring the economic,
environmental, and social aspects over a specific period of time. With the diversity of renewable
energy and its different formats, it is an effective method to impose and produce a TBL. These
results in accelerating profits and decelerating emissions of greenhouse gases produced by fossil fuel
combusting power stations and also nuclear power stations.
Creating renewable energy projects result in more jobs for qualified people for installation and
labour processes. Although the initial cost of installation for renewable sources of energy is high,
the maintenance costs are low and are easily accessible, for example solar panels and wind turbine
farms. The production of wind turbine farms has drawn eyebrows for many local communities
complaining about them to be visually displeasing. However, many renewable energy projects
increase domestic revenues on tourism. A prominent example being the Hoover Dam situated on

Analysis Of The Book Little Red Cap By Angela Carter
Fairytales subvert, challenge or reaffirm archetypal values through didactic lenses. The presence of
universal themes allows for an examination of contextual shifts and by being malleable in nature,
can be made relevant to different audiences. The Brothers Grimm s Little Red Cap , Angela Carter
s The Company of Wolves and Tommy Wirkola s film, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters all
promote their hegemonic ideologies and as cultural artefacts extrapolate the contextual values of
their time period. Carl Jung s theory of the Collective Unconscious ensures that each of these
fairytale adaptations can retain their archetypal valueand thus remain significant and relevant in
contemporary circumstances.
The Brother Grimm s 19th Century Fairytale, Little Red Cap reflects the hegemonies of its context
through its cautionary justification. Grimm s work reflected the importance of German national
cohesion under French occupation and the view towards foreigners as destructive usurpers. Little
Red Cap was adapted for instructional purposes, specifically aimed at a children s audience.
Initially in the tale, the subversion of Perrault s depiction of the girl is evident exemplifying her as
a sweet little girl and the hyperbolic everybody loved her instantly on first sight demonstrates the
engrained virtue of her youth. The instruction for Little Red Cap to not stray from the path
foreshadows the inherent danger associated with a misguided venture. The symbolism of

A Brief Look at Antiangiogenic Therapy
Although laser photocoagulation and PDT destroy pathological vessels, they neither extenuate the
primary angiogenic stimuli nor prevent the development of new vessel. Antiangiogenic substances
are able to resolve these problems. Antiangiogenic therapy prevents recurrence of AMD by
reversing the CNV lesions. Pegaptanib (brand name: Macugen) was the first intravitreal
pharmacotherapy approved by the FDA in 2004. It binds to VEGF165 and is responsible for blood
retinal barrier breakdown and pathological intraocular neovascularisation , subsequently inhibiting
pathological leakage and angiogenesis. According to the results of the
VEGF Inhibition Study in Ocular Neovascularisation (VISION) trial, pegaptanib is proven to be an
effective therapy for wet AMD. However, reinjections have to be done regularly as the molecule of
pegaptanib is degraded enzymatically by intraocular nucleases. Endophtalmitis, traumatic lens
injury and retinal detachment were also observed in the patients receiving this treatment.
In 2006, FDA approved the usage of ranibizumab (brand name: Lucentis), a humanized
monoclonal antibody fragment that has a high affinity for VEGF, as a therapeutic option for wet
AMD. Ranibizumab is different from pegaptanib as it is not restricted only to binding VEGF165
isoform but binds to all human VEGF isoform. It reduces leakage in vessels as well as decreases
retinal and choroidal neovascularisation in animal models. The findings of MARINA study
demonstrated that

The US Virgin Islands, which constitute of St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John, are US territories
located amongst other Caribbean Islands. With little natural resources to support them, these islands
rely heavily on specialized ecosystems, such as the coral reefs and mangrove forests, for sources of
food and income through tourism.
With a special adaptation to salt water and a unique ability to thrive in oxygen depleted
environmentals, mangrove forests are among one of the most common wetland systems in the US
Virgin Islands. Mangrove forest provide a breeding habitat and home for a plethora of wildlife,

With the influence of mannerism in Renaissance , the composition of the figures intertwine and
create not just complex composition but a dynamic three dimensional space. Both of the child
have its left leg stepping forward, however, because of the diagonal composition in the Dolci
painting and the depth expressed by the diagonal accent, it enhances the three dimensional effect.
Dolci s composition is also more unified meaning the subjects form a dynamic composition
relationship. There is more variation of postures in the painting and their limbs, accessories are
more intertwined. The scene seems more like a happening than a positioned, still portrait. Romano
s composition of the space seem to be more layer based and there are less spatial relationships
between the figures. Dolci also introduced a new technique by cropping the image of the subjects
with a slight highlighted line. This new technique is unique in a way that it restraint the subject in
another area than the frame. This enhances the three dimensional effect evermore, giving the
illusion as if the viewer would peek into the space inside of the painting, instead of looking
directly at the image and associating it with areas outside of the painting such as a frame which
naturally limits space and create a barrier between the viewer and the subjects in painting

Magallanes was raised in the Azusa Barrio of Los Angeles. His artwork is influenced by the
cultural and social elements of his upbringing. At the age of fifteen, he was expelled from high
school, but was accepted into the Ryman Arts program at the Otis Parsons College campus which
encouraged him to become a professional artist. The experience of participating in two distinct

Decline And Rise Of Traditional Medicine
The Decline and Rise of Traditional Medicine
In his book The Inconvenient Indian, Thomas King makes reference to the greatly reduced
populations of the indigenous population caused by the arrival of western diseases. In this essay I
intend to explore the ways in which the trajectory of the first nation s community was forever
changed not just by the effects of land appropriation but also by other side effects of colonisation. I
want to review how the traditional methods of health care, which had serviced the indigenous
population for centuries, were challenged by the onslaught of new diseases and later pushed
underground by the government s assimilation attempts and how they have survived these
challenges to meet the needs of modern day indigenous Canadians.
In an early copy of The Scientific Monthly, Dr. Hrdlicka of the Smithsonian Institute, was quoted
as saying that before its discovery by Columbus, America was one of the most healthful of
continents, if not the most so. This health status could be attributed to the lifestyle of the
indigenous people, their food varying according to the locality where they lived, was meat, fish,
vegetables (often eaten raw), nuts, seeds and fruits. Few areas had all these possibilities but, since
Indians ate every part of an animal and every edible plant in their locality, they came close an
optimal diet. Traditional healers or medicine men as they became known to non indigenous people
were an integral part of the indigenous

Issue 2: The fact that no one is tracking where the work is and who is supposed to be working on
what can lead to many problems. Some employees may be doing more work than others because
they are efficient and everything seems to land on their desk while others may be receiving
credit for work they are not doing. In the video we saw that Nick was tasked out with creating a
process flow chart, but he passed it on to someone else, and that some one pass it down to two
more people. I believe in fair and equal work between team members so they should break down
the work prior to initiating any task. There is nothing wrong with helping your teammates but not
do the work for them. Passing work like that can also lead to it getting misplaced. They should use
a flow chart to track where the work is. A Gantt chart or a document flow chart seem like a perfect
fit for this occasion. The document flow chart will trace the process flow chart document through
the system to avoid it getting lost. Losing information can also lead to

Genocide, The Rwandan Genocide And The Bosnian Genocide
Three genocides that have taken place since the Holocaust are the Cambodian genocide, the
Rwandan genocide, and The Bosnian Genocide. The term genocide was defined by the United
Nations in 1948 meaning following acts such as killing, causing serious physical/mental harm, or
deliberately inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring physical destruction, with intent to
destroy a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group. Genocides do not just happen out of nowhere,
often it is due to long standing conflicts with religious or cultural groups and a desire to have
power and control from either sides of conflict. Although the Holocaust is the most well known
genocide, people often forget that genocides still happen and that some have ended only recently.
One genocide that occurred after World War II was in the 1970 s. The Cambodian genocide lasted
from 1975 till 1979 and was caused by a number of events. In 1970 Cambodia s ruler, Prince
Sihanouk, was deposed in a military coup. A new right wing government was established and a
lieutenant general, Lon Nol, was made president of the Khmer Republic. Sihanouk and his
followers joined forces with a communist guerrilla organization lead by Pol Pot known as the
Khmer Rouge. They attacked Lon Nol s army and a Civil war broke out. Cambodia was also
caught up in the Vietnam war by becoming part of the battlefield. The Khmer Rouge and Pol Pot
were suspicious of Vietnam s relations with Cambodia and Lon Nol s Collaboration with

Gender Role Expectations On College Students
Education is a huge factor affecting women s job placement. From a young age, gender role
expectations are taught to students through books, televisions, advertisements, and adult social
interactions (Etaugh Liss 129 130). These gender role expectations are extremely institutionalized
but currently, women have made strides to have a greater representation at the college level. The
percentage of women (68%) between the ages of 18 to 24 enrolled in college, exceeds that of
men, which is 66% since 1990 (Parrillo 441). Even amongst minority groups, women have a larger
presence on college campuses. Even though women are not the minority in college, they are still
minorities in the science majors and overrepresented in majors required for more

Characteristics Of A Friend Who Falls Under All Of These...
We all have friendships with everyone. To some people, they have deep friendships while others
just use and abuse their friends. We shouldn t abuse our friends, we should care for our friends.
They re all important! Friends can provide support, comfort, and help and even have fun with
each other. When I look for friends, I make sure that they possess many qualities. Some traits I
look for in a friend is that they re kind, honest, trustworthy and accepting of my unique ideas. I
have many people that fall under this category, but for this essay, I have decided to write about one
who stands out. Her name is Aria.
Aria is a friend who falls under all of these qualities. She s kind, trustworthy and provides support
and comfort. Aria and I have a deep friendship.
Aria is a kind person. She cares for each and every one of her friends. An example is when she
provides food for me and others. I remember in kindergarten when she brought me a slice of
pizza for lunch. More specifically, a tomato basil slice of pizza. Anyways, I remember feeling
strange and weird as this had never happened to me. Before this, I had never gotten food, or any
item, from anyone. It was a new experience. Another example is that Aria puts her peers before
herself. A couple weeks ago, we were playing Volleyball. Aria would set up her peers for spikes, a
move that is hard to accomplish in this sport. Usually, people only care about themselves, and only
ask people to set them up. Aria could easily become one of

Masturbation And Sexual Pleasure During The 19th Century
April Haynes lectured and wrote about masturbation and sexual pleasure in the 19th century. She
covered the history behind the women led reformation of sexual pleasure and desire in women, and
spoke about the anti masturbation movement, which was surprisingly lead by women in the same
era. I found these talks to be very interesting in that they covered a discrepancy between the wonder
of sex, and the female reintroduction to knowledge about their body, and anti masturbation, which
was an ideology enforced by women of that time. An overarching theme in the 19th centurywas the
ideology of passionlessness. This claimed that women were incapable of experiencing sexual
pleasure, and had no sexual desire. It was prevalent throughout the early 19th century, but middle
class reformers shifted this view in the 1830s. Male lecturers used to only give men talks about
their own sexual bodies, but the reform was headed by these lecturers as well. They began to
speak about woman s sexual bodies, emphasizing that women have as much sexual desire as men,
and could achieve orgasmthrough hetrosexual sex. Women from the middle class, and lower middle
class, attended these lectures to gather information on their own bodies. 19th century women did
not know about their own bodies as they did in the past, which attracted women to these lectures, in
an attempt to re obtain this held knowledge. The popularity of these lectures not only caused a
reform against the ideology of passionlessness, but

The Negative Effects Of Video Games On Child Development
The media is a platform that gives instant access all over the world and an unlimited amount of
resources. It also provides immense opportunities for learning and skill development. However, the
media also causes negative impacts on learning, physical health, and development. As the media
grows and develops everyday, it constantly draws the public s attentionand concerns in divided
opinions.
Bavelier, Eichenbaum, and Green (2014) explained the positive aspects of video games on
individuals skills and abilities. Video games were found to improve one s mental capacities that
decline with age and promote work skills. Not only did video game players acquire skills, they
improved perceptual and cognitive processing such as working memory and abstract reasoning
because games enforced players to constantly keep track of many items simultaneously in various
levels of perception and cognition. Action video games especially enhanced the players vision in
contrast sensitivity, crowded acuity, visual selective attention, and multiple object tracking tasks.
Additionally, action gamers showed improved attention in executive functions such as sustained
attention block, impulsivity block, dual tasking, and task switching. To take a step further, video
games can be applied to real life for medical purposes to help correct vision for those with
amblyopia, train visual attention for dyslexic children, and educate children about illnesses.

The Cosmological Argument Analysis
The early idea of the cosmological argument was developed by two historic philosophers named
Plato and Aristotle. The idea of the cosmological argument was to provide the proof of the
existence of God. A philosopher named Saint Thomas Aquinas then took this idea and developed it
into what he calls his The Five Ways . The five ways that Aquinas provided to prove that God
existed is by the unmoved mover, the first cause, the argument from contingency, and the argument
from degree.
The first of the five ways that Aquinas proves that god exists is the idea of the unmoved mover or
prime mover . Aquinas believes that all things that are natural are in motion and are finite. Since
everything natural is in motion and finite then a first mover must exist. If the first mover or the
prime mover does not exist then there would be no other mover and nothing natural would be in
motion. The natural things around us are not able to move by their own so the existence of the prime
mover is created. Aquinas believes God is the first mover of the universe, unmoved by no one else,
which makes God the unmoved mover. God set the universe in motion because nothing moves itself;

Aquinas s second reasoning is very similar to his idea of the unmoved mover and they take place
simultaneously. Aquinas believes that everything has a cause. He does not believe in the idea of
an infinite cause because that cause can be traced back to the first cause which makes it finite.
Since everything is finite then there must be a first efficient cause for itself. Without a first cause
there would be no later causes which, therefore means, nothing at all would exist. It is impossible
for the first cause to have a cause. Aquinas believes that since the universe exists, then there needs
to be a first cause which began all causes, which is why God is the uncaused causer of the

About two years later they started to see each other more and more. They were rarely seen

The Role of Auditors in a Firm
Audit is determined by a formal examination of a firm s financial records, inspection of its accounts
and other related documents by accountants called auditors. Basically, auditing is a controlled
process which includes professional judgment and requires applying of analytical skills. Also, it
involves appropriate forms of expertise and its approaching. A team with professional skills perform
this task according to the relevant standards, for instance, International Standards on Auditing
(ISAs), International Financial Reporting Standards(IFRS), International Public Sector Accounting
Standards (IPSAS) or International Standards on Quality Control (ISQCs) and other applicable
equivalents.
The role of auditor as a specialist is to review the company s accounts in order to certify the
legitimacy and validity of its financial records. They work in the places like independent certified
organisations or accounting departments. Furthermore, auditors can give an advice and warn about
possible risks and cost savings that company could made. As money going in and out of
organisations, auditors examine the records and check if it is processed correctly. Their obligations
also include visiting factories for checking stocks and companies equipment.

Week 5 Film Critique Final Paper Focus of the Final Film Critique Throughout this course, you
have been compiling a blog and writing essays that analyze various elements of film such as
theme, cinematic techniques, and genre. It is now time to combine those elements into a
comprehensive analysis of one movie. You will be completing this assignment in two stages: for
the first stage (1500 to 1800 words), you will analyze an entire movie; in the second stage (300 to
600 words), you will reflect on how you analyzed the movie as well as how your ability... Show

How did society affect this film (i.e., what currents in society led to the creation of the film)?
If you are unable to find any information about the social impact of the film, explain the
personal impact it has had on you. Note: Not every bullet point under the four listed components
will necessarily apply to your movie. However, you will still need to discuss each of the four main
components thoroughly, which means that you may need to explain a concept even if it can‟t
be directly applied to your movie. Your paper should be organized around a thesis statement that
clarifies what you will attempt to accomplish in your paper, and how you will proceed.
Additionally, you must conclude with a restatement of the thesis and a conclusion paragraph.
Stage 2: Reflection After completing your movie analysis, you will reflect on the analysis
process and how you have learned to more thoroughly analyze film as well as how rigorous study
of film enhances your development as a student and thinker. In this 300 to 600 word reflection,
review your initial post from the Post Your Introduction discussion in Week One, and consider how
your ability to analyze movies has changed or grown. Append your reflection to the analysis
portion of your paper. Your reflection should be personal and exploratory in

Analysis Of Michael Pollan s In Defense Of Food
The purpose of this paper is to argue that Michael Pollan s theory, to eat food [but] not too much
Mostly plants is a good way to eat because it helps people to live longer. Michael Pollan, author of
the 2007 article, Unhappy Meals and the book In Defense of Food: An Eater s Manifesto, argues
for eatingfood. Not too much. Mostly plants (Pollan). People are better off eating whole fresh
foods than processed food products (Pollan). He argues that nutrients are not food and he is right.
Nutrients are located in food and food is nutrients. Fresh foods are natural byproducts of the earth.

The Wordy Shipmates Chapter Summary
The Wordy Shipmates by Sarah Vowell focuses on the puritan colonies in the new world. Mainly
Plymouth in 1620 and Salem in1692. The book focuses on the words of John Cotton and John
Winthrop s sermons. The book provides an insight into the forming of these first few colonies, such
as the events both in Europeand the new world that led to there formation. Vowell does a great job
at keeping this historical analysis as interesting as possible referring past events to present day
ones giving a younger reader a better understanding. I found her writing on the famous Indian
Squanto to be particularly interesting. Squanto was the famous Native American who helped the
first settlers of the Mayflower. He was the only Native American who could speak English do to

As mention before Squanto was captured be European sailors who brought over disease. This
disease had wiped out all the people Squanto knew. When he was returned home he found his
friends and family were all dead and his village was gone. When the Mayflower came over it
settled on the very place Squanto s old village sat. The land being destroyed by disease was
cleared and perfect fro starting a colony on. The settlers most likely found Squanto here because
it was his village and all that he knew. Another point I found interesting is the line from John
Cotton that America was blessed by God and therefore needs to share this blessing with the
world. This is first seen in the Massachusetts Bay Colony Seal which shows a Native America
saying, Come over and help us. It seems as American people thought that this gift or blessing from
God needed to be shared with everyone and occurs multiple times throughout the book. It occurs in
the seal, The Mexican War, Vietnam, Wounded Knee, and Cuba. Each of these events goes back to
the idea of America Spreading its

Broken April Analysis
Broken April Final Essay
In Broken April, Ismail Kadare conveys how social expectations and rules can mentally and
physically trap someone in a violent and depressing cycle.
In regards to being physically trapped, a character that conveys this idea is Gjorg. Kadare s
character does this throughout the text, and the conflicts Gjorg faces with his devotion to the
Kanun. In the beginning of the text while Gjorg is in the funeral procession, He is described as
[Feeling] the urge to get out of that absurd situation, to bolt from the funeral cortege . (pg 16).
And later on in that chapter of the text, it states that ...he knew very well that he could never run
away, no more than his grandfather, his great grandfather, his great great grandfather, and all his
ancestors five hundred, a thousands years before him had been able to run away. (pg 16). The
repetition of his ancestors convey a very trapped tone, showing not only that they could not run
away from the funeral, but the kanun itself. Later in the text, when Gjorg is on his way to pay
the blood tax, he thinks about the rules of the Kanun, and says that he could not escape its
definitions (pg 27). Again, the tone is very negative, and Kadare uses the phrase could not escape
to emphasize that no matter how much Gjorg wanted to, he had to obey the rules and definitions
within the Kanun. The last time Gjorg appears in this book is in chapter 7, when his bessa is over
and he is finally murdered. Before he dies, he thinks

Why Is Balance Control Important
How Important Is Ankle Proprioception for Balance Control in Sport Performance and Injury
Abstract
Balance control improvement is one of the most important goals in sports and exercise. Better
balance is strongly positively associated with enhanced athletic performance and negatively
associated with lower limb sports injuries. Proprioception plays an essential role in balance control,
and ankle proprioception is arguably the most important. This paper reviews ankle proprioception
and explores possible links with balance control, specifically in a sport context. Central processing
of ankle proprioceptive information, along with other sensory information, enables integration for
balance control. Care must be taken when assessing ankle proprioception to ensure that the method
used has ecologically valid and allows proprioceptive signals to be integrated in the central nervous
system and reflects the signal noise nature of central processing. Ankle proprioceptive intervention
concepts driven by the central processing theory are further proposed and discussed for the
improvement of balance control in sport.

The relationship between poor balance control and heightened injury risk was identified 30 years
ago. In 1984 Tropp et al. (17) found ankle injuries were almost 4 times more prevalent in soccer
player with poor balance comparison to those with normal balance ability. Similarly, Watson (18)
found hurdling athletes and Gaelic football plays with poor balance had nearly twice as many
ankle injuries relative to their counterparts with normal balance. In addition, balance ability was
found to be significantly associated with ankle injury risk in both younger male and female
basketball players (19). A recent systematic review summarized the available evidence and
suggested that poorer balance ability is an intrinsic factor associated with increased ankle injury risk

Alzheimer s Disease ( Ad )
Alzheimer s disease (AD) is a disorder that is characterized by degeneration of the hippocampal
and cortical neurons of the brain causing memory impairment and a decline in cognitive abilities.
The current study by Ghoneim et al.1 focuses on the role of three proteins in the pathogenesis of
Alzheimer s. Brainderived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) signaling is important for development and
maintenance of normal neuronal circuits in the brain. Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) is
expressed by astrocytes in the central nervous system in response to neurondamage. Ki 67 is a
protein that is responsible for detecting cell proliferation. Ghoneim et al. designed their study to
explore the effects of caffeineintake on the expression of these proteins in rats induced with AD.
Caffeine is hypothesized to have a protective effect against AD for a multitude of reasons. It is
believed that caffeine has the potential to reduce amyloid beta accumulation because it is
associated with reduced oxidative stress. It could also reduce the effects of the inflammatory
response which is a well known trademark of AD. Lastly, caffeine has been identified to have a
role in maintaining the blood brain barrier.
Previously, it has been suggested that drinking 3 5 cups of coffee per day during midlife is
associated with a 65% decreased risk of dementia/Alzheimer s in the elderly. Other studies have
reported that caffeine inhibits the production of amyloid beta in the brain and reverses cognitive

Differences Between Men And Women Essay
In the book it discussed three major differences in cognitive abilities between men and women.
The first having to deal with women having higher verbal abilities, the second being mathematical
in where men are higher and third being spatial abilities which also has men being higher. With the
spatial abilities though there is evidence that women have an advantage on some tasks. Cognitive
sex differences I think are more social than environmental because of things like stereotype threat
in where the person knows of the stereotype and it negatively affects their performance. In the
Smith and white 2012 study found that the performance of college women was worse on a math
test when they heard that men do better on this type of test, but men performance also declined
when they heard that Asians outperform whites. the knowledge of stereotypes has many effects on
boys and girls one it makes them not try as hard because they think it is expected of them to do
worse. Yes, I believe that real differences can be reduced through interventions. Johns et al (2005)
found that women who were informed of the potential effects of genderbased stereotype threat
performed better than women who were not. This finding suggests that having explicit
conversations with stigmatized students about stereotype threat and its effects may be a simple yet
highly effective intervention.

Bucky Cantor s Heroic Struggle In Nemesis By Philip Roth
In the novel Nemesis, by Philip Roth, the central character, Bucky Cantor, has a personal desire
for some heroic challenge. This desire originated from his upbringing from his maternal
grandparents after his mother died giving birth and after his father left Bucky at an early age. His
grandfather in particular raised the young Bucky Cantor to embody and espouse the masculine
virtues. These virtues included bravery, accepting responsibility, and making the best out of what
is provided. With the life lessons of his grandfather, Bucky was able to grow up, in spite of
severely poor vision and lack of immediate parents, to become a young man of excellent physical
prowess and mental fortitude. One roadblock Bucky overcame was when he was barred entry into
the military, preventing him from fighting with his close friends and for a chance at challenging
gallantry. True to his grandfather s lessons during childhood, he made do with his circumstances
and fought another conflict of a different nature.
During most of the novel, Bucky Cantor was employed as a teacher and playground director of a
local school in a closely knit, family oriented Jewish community of Weequahic neighborhood in
Newark, New Jersey. While he worked in 1944 near the summer, a polio outbreak had... Show

The Basques are people who inhabit a region spanning over parts of north central Spain and

The Perils Of Keeping Monkey As Pets

You think you re ready for a pet? I wouldn t monkey around with that decision!
Background/Context Paragraph
How cool would it be to own a exotic pet, like a monkey! As stated by i.life.science.com, between
5,000 and 7,000 tigers are kept as pets. That s more than the amount in the wild, being only 3,200.
WOW! Additionally, monkeys are also very popular pets, the National Geographic article titled
The Perils of Keeping Monkey as Pets , states that about 15,000 primates are kept as pets in the
USA. There are many different types of exotic pets kept worldwide.
Chimps and monkeys are very similar animals, yet they are also very different. Chimpanzees are
considered great apes. Great Apes tend to generaly have bigger brains and bodies than monkeys.
Chimps are more related to humans then monkeys They are similar when it comes to being
primates. Today we will be discussing both chimpanzees and monkeys as pets. Although, we will
mostly be talking about monkeys!
Most monkeys kept as pets are pulled from their mothers and taken in by breeders, zoos, and
other animal selling locations. The monkeys are very young when they are taken in. They are
eventually put up for sale and bought once they reach an ideal age. Jay Weston from Huffpost LA
who owned two monkeys says, No, I do not recommend anyone ever to keep a monkey as a pet.

A Genetic Engineering Outline
oTH Morgan concluded that chromosome play an important part in heredity and the passing on
genetic traits o Griffith injected mice with different types of bacteria and when he injected them
with S cells, the mice died. When the mice were injected with the R cells, they continued to live.
The mice would survive if they were injected with heat killed S Cells but died when given a
dosage of heat killed S Cells and normal R Cells. The reaction of the two cells was the possible
and most likely death of the mouse. o Avery, Macleod, and McCarthy took the findings of Griffith
and wanted to reason why the combination of the two cells killed the mouse. The took the different
parts which would cause the DNA, Protein, and RNA and eventually eliminated them one by one.
After all of that, only bacteria that was exposed to the S strain DNA were transformed. This gave
the idea that DNA is what was controlling living things and was the outcome of this experiment o

Risks of Teenagers Obtaining a Driver s Licence
Most teens look forward to getting a driver s license. But that may change if they know that they
have a much higher risk of having a motor accident than adult drivers. In the United States, driving
accidents are a leading cause of death among teenagers. These accidents happen mostly in
populated cities. This problem has caused each state to have its own drivinglaws for teens. Although
this problem is already a priority in many states, it should get more attention from the general
public, especially teens. It is important for people to know about driving laws because these laws
can help establish safe driving habits. California laws that attempt to decrease teen caused auto
accidentsinclude establishing a minimum age for passengers of teenage drivers. In California, a
new driver cannot transport anyone who is under 20 years of age unless a licensed adult is also
in the vehicle. Another effective law in California requires teen drivers to have at least 50 hours
of supervised driving during the learner s permit stage. This law is effective because it allows
teens to learn how to drive safely on the road with the help of an experienced driver. Although
some laws are effective, teens are still known to cause accidents. Therefore, a solution should be
proposed to the state governments that will call for a law that requires teens to take an annual
mandatory driving testfor a certain number of years after obtaining a license.

Essay On Border Injection Drug Use
In cities along the U.S. Mexico border injection drug use is a rising problem, and users are at
high risk of blood borne infections, hepatitis C virus (HCV), human immunodeficiency virus

75% of female sex workers in Ciudad (Cd.) JuГЎrez, Mexico were injection drug users (IDUs)

increasing risk of STIs, like syphilis (Frost et al., 2006). These STIs increase the risk of HIV

Log linear models were used to investigate the association between the status of the recruiter and

The prevalence of HCV was 96.6% and 95.3% in Tijuana and Cd. JuГЎrez respectively; HIV was
1.9% and 4.1% respectively in Tijuana and Cd. JuГЎrez respectively, and in Cd. JuГЎrez HBV
prevalence was 84.7%. The estimated syphilis prevalence ranged from 12.4 26.8% in Tijuana and
2.9 15.6% in Cd. JuГЎrez. The variance was due to that the pattern of recruitment model chosen
and how much network size was assumed to affect sample probability. Results showed syphilis
prevalence was increased in women and Tijuana in comparison to men and Cd. JuГЎrez. The
results show that network size and gender are both potential confounders. The qualifiers for
network size are subjective thus relate to the recruitee and syphilis level. Because female
prostitutes are more likely to be IUD users, gender also relates to IDU and syphilis level. In
conclusion, there was a low HIV prevalence, high syphilis prevalence, and the syphilis proportions
may be underestimated due to RDS (Frost et al., 2006).

injection stigmata ( track marks ). This way someone didn t falsify data. One limitation the study

forbidden fruit but believe that God will not be able to catch them. However, God knew what
they had done and in result they were banished from the Garden of Eden. Charlie, like Adam and
Eve, also pays the consequences of this actions when Wonka denies him the prize of a lifetime
supply of chocolate. Unlike the story of Adam and Eve however, when Charlie shows remorse
for his actions Wonka reveals to him that he was only testing him and declares that he wants
Charlie to take over the factory. This relates to the bible in John 1:9, If we confess our sins, he is
faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness . This idea also
touches on the biblical worldview that no human is perfect and it is impossible for someone not to
sin, however it is to ask for forgiveness which is most

Serena s Door-Personal Narrative
My eyes are stinging from the bright florescent light hanging from the ceiling, like the feeling of
uneasiness thats been settling in my chest since i woke up on this thin peice of foam. It smells
used and pissy, it reminds me of the yoga matts we used in my middle school gym. If it wasnt for

would be a prime location for me and my two younger sisters to play hide and seek. There goes
that feelingagain reminding me that this is no game. I hear foot steps aproaching and someone

Woodcock-Johnson 4 Test Of Achievement Analysis
Achievement Tests The Woodcock Johnson IV Test of Achievement (WJ IV) is used for individual
ages two to ninety years old. A major strength of this assessment is that it provides a broad coverage
of skills that can be assessed for the child to truly learn their strengths and weaknesses. For English
as a Second Language students, the administrator can administer certain clusters of subtests to
determine a child s cognitive academic language proficiency. Also, the test has many
accommodations listed to help when testing English Language Learners, visual impairments, and
other disabilities to provide the best testing environment for the student. A weakness of this
assessment is that since so many subtests exist, it can become very easy to over... Show more

A major strength of this assessment is that this assessment has a Nonverbal Index. This is beneficial
for students who are not yet proficient in the English language or struggle with language.
Administering the Nonverbal Index allows the administrator to gain a better understanding of the
child s abilities because their language issues are not working against them with this test. Also, this
assessment has two theories of intelligence that can be tested: the Luria neurological processing
theory and Cattell Horn Carroll (CHC) theory of intelligence. With the Luria Model, you will obtain
the Mental Processing Index of Learning Ability, Sequential Processing, Simultaneous Processing,
and Planning Ability. With the Cattell Horn Carroll model, you will obtain the Fluid Crystallized
Index with the areas of long term storage and retrieval, short term memory, visual processing, fluid
reasoning, and crystallized ability. This assessment is also more child friendly because of the
visuals throughout the test. A weakness of this assessment is the administrator will not be able to
obtain a score for auditory processing and processing speed with this assessment, requiring the
administrator to utilize another intelligence assessment. This assessment has two intelligence
theories options to choose from: the Luria

Why You Should Become An Electrician
Why you should consider becoming an electrician. An electrician gets to work with many tools
and devices that help him do his job, in my opinion an electrician is under rated, some people
think that being an electrician is mainly working on a job site in buildings outside in the cold, I
believe that is looking at the start of a electricians career, however ounce a person becomes a
master electricianthen they can work on much bigger projects such as wiring a space shuttle or
inventing a new piece of technology. As well after earning the rank of a master electrician you can
make much better money which will be enough to live comfortably while enjoying your work.

Working as an electrician you encounter many dangers some that can cause injure or kill you

Leadership And The Leadership Styles
1.Webster s defines Leadership as the action of leading a group of people or an organization .
That definition really does the word no justice because leadership can look like a great many
things to different people, and there are equally as many ways to lead. One can lead through fear
or respect, by word or by action. Introduction: My definition of leadershipand the leadership
influences in my career. I have had numerous leaders that have influenced my career and
leadership style to this point. The Chief on my first Patrol Boat was one of the biggest
influences I have had in my career. I remember how he carried himself with confidence. He
empowered his people. He had the personal power to inspire people to want to be better to not
disappoint him. But at the same time was able to hold people accountable, and have you learn
from the experience. I also had a cutter CO that illustrated for me all the qualities I promised
myself I would never be. They did not treat their crew with respect. By their level of
micromanagement, they demonstrated that they did not trust their crew. People just dreaded
coming to work never knowing what the day was going to bring. Even as I strive to ensure I am
never like that leader, there are times that I stop and find myself thinking along the same lines,
and demonstrating some of the same weaknesses. I can see how they fell into the traps that they
did. I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish in my career, and am happy

The Benefits Of Software Creation
Long time technology pundit David Kirkpatrick may have been the first to note the phenomenon
way back in 2011 when he wrote Now every company is a software company. That comment, which
may have been intentionally hyperbolic at the time, has become reality in 2017. To wit, those
organizations not leveraging great customer facing and employee facing software lack the means to
compete effectively. To be fair, it s clear many enterprises today are scrambling to identify the
means to update their organizations by incorporating these tools.
As you might guess, investors like ourselves here at Greylock Partners are very aware of this mega
trend, as it represents an outstanding, once in a generation opportunity to invest in the companies ...

Put simply it removes the responsibility of executing actual code or managing infrastructure by
moving that role into the domain of the cloud provider. It s only serverless in the sense that the
development team no longer needs to worry about computing resources, containers, virtual
machines, security, or loading code and running it. In brief, almost everything related to software
creation is abstracted from the team with the exception of development.
This model delivers a host of significant benefits to development teams, particularly in the realms
of IT costs and the types of event driven applications that we see emerging today. However, even
as dramatic as the cost savings are predicted to be, we believe the de coupling of application
delivery from infrastructure management will prove to be the most significant advantage, changing
the nature of software development forever.
Basically, the more an organization can abstract infrastructure management, thus hiding its
complexity from developers, the better that development team can decompose its applications into
individual services while retaining a sense of the application s complete scope and purpose, thus
dramatically improving the organization s velocity. No longer do application developers have to
manage servers, the OS, containers, security, scheduling management, or myriad other functions

All Quiet On The Western Front Dehumanization Quotes
Dehumanization is the process of depriving people of human qualities (dictionary.com). In the
book Night by Elie Wiesel, it s based on an experience from one of the Holocaust survivors of
how him and his family, and how he was deprived of all his rights as a person in concentration
camps in Auschwitz, Germany. In the excerpt All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria
Remarque is based on an experience from a soldier in Germany during WW1, and how he felt
forgotten after fighting in the war not important to anyone.
The novel Night by Elie Wiesel is a real life experience about a young boy and his family of how
they had to embark on a journey of being tortured for their religion. In the novel, he wonders if
god is there to help him. One boy was sentenced to death, he was hung by an SS Officer and
Wiesel heard Where is merciful God, where is he? (Wiesel 64) . This quote is an example of
dehumanization because the young boy was killed and people are wondering where is god, will
he be there to help us? This is important because he wants to know if there is someone who will

felt after everything. Remarque said, I am a soldier, I must cling to that (Remarque 8). Knowing
that he fought and survived is all he needs to feel important and not forgotten to himself or people
who forgot about him. While signing up for the war thinking he would be honored he hasn t felt

Denzel Washington Fall Forward Speech
In the speech, Fall Forward By Denzel Washington, one of the things that really got to me was
when he talked about deathbeds. He said, Imagine your on your deathbed and standing around
your deathbed are ghosts. Representing your unfulfilled potential. Saying that maybe people
you know, or maybe people that were in your family. And when you are in your deathbed, you
don t want to have to think about the things you didn t do correctly. The people that are know
there thinking Wow you really didn t do it, you didn t fulfill your complet potential. Or when
there s people that relied on you, and you weren t always there for them, and know. Now there
waiting, waiting for you at your deathbed. You knowing that you didn t reach the full potential
that you wanted to get, you didn t get to the point and time. You didn t reach the best. If you
haven t failed, then you really haven t tried. And give up know, your going to have more to do
later in the future and it s going to just be a lot of more work for you, your hurting yourself not
anyone else. And knowing this, this would be very good advice from an elder, an it is definitely
good advice from an elder. He was a good person to get advice from. At one moment in the video,
that it really caught my attention, i thought about, it. It was something along the lines of. Him
talking about people that you could have been there for and then there was oeioke that he could
have helped. The full potential he knows he could get too,

How Did The Silk Road Affect Long Distance Trade
The Silk Road:
The Silk Road was a road used for long distance trade between countries in central Asia. As the
cities grew and flourished, long distance travel was used to share customs with other places, and
trade goods. While traveling, General Zhang discovered new plants and trees, and then introduced
them to China, so that they could adopt them and use them for their own use, and also for trade.
China also adopted a lot more crops, and put the products they received from trading to good use.
Trading had a major impact to all the countries involved in the Silk Road, especially China.
The Sasanid Empire, 224 600:
There was a lot of silver work and silk fabrics that were produced in the Sasanid Empire in Iran,
and the empire also had organized communities that were protecting long distance trade. The
Sasanid Empire also benefited from the Silk Road because they received lots of new crops. The
religion worshipped was Zoroastrianism, while Christians were persecuted because they were
political rivalry with the Byzantines. Through the Silk Road, there were missionaries that traveled
to spread different religions, effective military technologies were used and spread to different ...

Noise Atlanta Airport
Anyone who has ever lived by an airport can attest to the noise that is produced by planes landing
and taking off. It can be such a nuisance that some people even move out of their homes to get away
from the noise. Atlanta International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world, with over
800,000 flights arriving and departing annually.(Mutzabaugh, 2015) There is no surprise that the
airportproduces large amounts of noise which affect the residents of Atlanta. The Airport has taken
measures to reduce the noise caused by all these flights. Noise abatement here has been ongoing for
almost 30 years, starting in 1972 with noise abatement on the departure tracks of runways.
Today the airport has the Airport Noise Mitigation Program.

Rhetorical Analysis On Make America Great Again
There is no one reason that can explain President Donald J. Trump s controversial, but enduring
appeal; however, the combination of charisma and a powerful message (i.e. Make America Great
Again ) were some of the greatest contributors to the success of his 2016 Presidential campaign.
Donald Trump s bold and non politically correct approach to politics, along with his charismatic
personality appealed to many Americans, and his campaign slogan of Make America Great Again,
made many American s feel nostalgic, because it allowed them to attach their own individual
perception of when they felt America was at its greatest.

A good campaign slogan is an important factor to consider when running for President. According

In order to change the mind of someone, something big needs to happen to grab their attention, and
what better way to do so than doing something unexpected and/or outrageous. For President Trump,
any press is good press, which means to him there s no such thing as bad press; therefore,
unexpected and outrageous are part of his charismatic persona that many people seem to flock to.
President Trump s charisma is a key reason for why he has been so effective in capturing the focus
of Millions in the United States and even Billions worldwide. President Trump is always changing.
Just when people think they ve begun to understand him (i.e. what he might say or do), he often
does something to prove their assumption wrong. During the election, whenever the media
attention would start to deviate from Donald Trump, some sort of a new controversy would suddenly
arise, (e.g. like with his plan for a temporary travel ban from countries that were predominantly
Muslim, dubbed the Muslim Ban ), which directed the media right back onto himself. Whether
intentional or not, President Trump s controversies essentially drowned out his competition during
the election, detracting all the attention from his more experienced political

Biography Of Leopold s A Sand County Almanac Essay
Part A When one reads Aldo Leopold s A Sand County Almanac, it is difficult to not immediately
find yourself lost in Leopold s enchantment with the nature that surrounds him. Leopold describes,
month by month, the activities of the animals and nature around him in such a way that one is able
to truly appreciate the often missed miracles that are happening all around us. One can easily
deduct that the theme of A Sand County Almanacis very boldly proclaimed as Leopold s writings
tell us to pause for a moment to appreciate and conserve the beautiful world that surrounds us.
Let us consider the two key words of the theme, appreciate and conserve. The Oxford English
Dictionary defines the word appreciate as to, recognize the worth of ( Appreciate ). Leopold
wants society to take a moment to recognize the worth of nature by providing us with a
descriptive glance at elements of nature that we may often take for granted, such as animals
foraging for food or the history of a tree. The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word
conserve as to, protect (something, especially something of environmental or cultural importance)
from harm or destruction ( Conserve ). Once we are able to appreciate nature, we become more
aware of the importance of conservation. When you do not care about nature, it is easy to overuse
and mistreat it in such a way that it harms the environment. On the contrary, if one is able to truly
appreciate nature, he or she is much more conscious about the

Girl Interrupted Analysis
Pain demands to be felt. Through analysing one written text and three visual texts the reoccurring
connection between them is mental illness. All four texts bring about the idea of pain in the world
being inevitable and mental detachment from the world being the only solution, making me
question the world that we live in. Fight Club (1999) written by Chuck Palahniuk, Girl,
Interrupted (1999) directed by James Mangold, Requeim for a Dream directed by Darren
Anronofsky (2000), and Clean Shaven (1993) directed by Lodge Kerrigan each show a realist
perspective of coping with mental illness and the struggle of reality. Each character with their own
reality that they face we see the lengths that they are willing to go to ease their constant pain they
feel making the individual question the borderline of sanity and insanity. I... Show more content on

The key to the detachment is losing all hope it s when we lose hope that we essentially give up
on life due to reality being too hard to face, and in that moment, we find freedom. In the novel
Fight Club, the characterisation of Tyler Durden, is interesting in the sense that he creates a
protective alter ego for himself, Hey, you created me. I didn t create some loser alter ego to
make myself feel better. (Fight Club, 1999), this quote shows that Tyler s unhappiness with
reality is reason enough for him to create a different reality through adventure and the elements
of adrenaline and danger in contrast to his average mediocre life. Tyler s adventurous spirit is
seen through the creation of Fight Club where he puts himself in in extreme situations, just to
see if he will survive and even when there is no possible way he can survive his adventurous
ways he still challenges himself. For instance, in the beginning and end of the novel he is on top
of a Skyscraper where a bomb is set to go off at a certain time, he has a pistol in his mouth and is

What Does The Prince Symbolize In The Masque Of The Red Death
The story Masque of the Red Death uses many symbols throughout the story. The story begins
telling about the grim disease that killed many people. It spreads quickly and kills within 30
minutes. The Prince Prospero, who symbolized the rich and prosperous, wanted to throw a great
masked ball where no one would get in or out so the disease couldn t spread or be brought into
the palace. As the ball went on there a clock that rang every hour. It stopped the people from
dancing and symbolized time passing. The people just resumed dancing after it rang like it was
nothing, however. The party was going fine until an intruder invaded the ball. This intruder
symbolized the Red Death, and came like a thief in the night . The prince tried to stop him with
the aid of a knife, but then fell dead, like the rest did after. Masque of the Red Death used lots of
symbols in it such as the Prince, who represented the rich, the clock, that represented the time
passing by and the people s inevitable death, and the intruder, who represented the Red Death and
how merciless it was. One symbol in Masque of the Red Death was the prince s name. Prince

  • 2. Goblin Market Vs Little Dorrit During the Victorian era, a woman s influence was restricted mainly to domestic spheres, being the angel of the house and tireless supporter of her husband. These gender roles were societally enforced, as women lacked the necessary rights to move up financially or socially without a husband. For women, the only possible moral actions come from choosing to stay pure or being lured by temptation, thereby becoming immoral. In two texts, Rossetti s Goblin Market and Dickens Little Dorrit, young women are presented as lessons adhering to this morality, being rewarded for purity and servitude or punished for perceived immorality. Women were supposed to restrain themselves from any temptation, becoming subservient to a husband as the angel of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For each pair of sisters, the only choice comes from the idea of choosing or not choosing to resist temptation. In Goblin Market, Laura s decision to interact with the Goblin men is characterized as a choice of having power over herself, her making the decisions when [her] last restraint is gone (Rossetti, 418). When she gives in to this temptation, she is corrupted by the Goblins, unlike Lizzie, who stands strong and stays pure. This idea of temptation and choice is paralleled in Fanny s and Amy s attitudes regarding devotion. When explaining to Amy that unhappiness is just her fate in life, due to her personality, Amy tells her that If you loved any one, you would no more be yourself, but you would quite lose and forget yourself in your devotion to him (Dickens, 381). The implication that Fanny is only herself because she loves no one shows her lack of dedication to the basic female morality, loving and being devoted to a man. Fanny is rejecting the role as angel of the house, and therefore is deviating from what is seen as moral through her own choosing. Representing choices in a binary takes power away from women, as the only agency they have over their actions is to choose negative actions. If they choose, even of their own will, something that is seen as deviating from the baseline of women s actions, they are instantly branded as immoral and therefore shunned by ... • 3. Lockheed Martin Case Study Teams The team aspect of Lockheed Martin in my opinion would be generalized as a traditional works groups, meaning there is responsibility at the top of the group with support provided by others. However, when it comes to their product development department, there must be more of a participative leadership to encourage employee ideas and innovation. Relating back to the story of Skunkworks , when Clarence Kelly Johnson s team designed and built the first tactical jet fighter, Kelly s promotion of innovation and creativity amongst his team helped to not only complete the project but to complete it ahead of schedule. This style of leadership promoted pride in the product which made each team member feel as though they had a personal stake ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Personally, I suspect that this is not a feature often utilized and if an employee has an idea or suggestion it is often communicated directly to their immediate supervisor who then may or may not continue to the remake up the ladder. This can create boundaries to the communication within the company however I believe with the employee s ready access to information and the encouragement of communication from top managers, Lockheed Martin will continue to improve in this area. Wrap Up Lockheed Martin began as a small venture of two individuals who passionately believed in their product and the future of aviation. In their passion, a company was formed that would go through highs and lows both in leadership, reputation and production development. Their management philosophy of make it better combined with their lean management approach ensures that the product is made to the best quality while eliminating cumbersome manufacturing or environmental wastes. Their strengths and weaknesses can be measured by the outside factors that they face. They continue to be the largest defense product provider in the world however they face factors outside their control which could upset the very structure and existence of their company. They migrate this risk by diversifying their products and expanding their involvement in projects across the world. This diversification has led to the company spreading across the world and increased its need to maintain a solid organizational ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Diotima s Speech Analysis Through the speakers presented in the Symposium, Plato showcases a variety of viewpoints about the essence, worth, and expression of love. Though it can be argued that Plato suggests that love is determined by how an individual chooses to interpret it, I will be arguing that he supports the idea that there is a difference between true love and false love. These differences in the forms of love can be seen through the ideas expressed in Pausanias speech, Eryximachus speech, and finally, Diotima s speech which was expressed through Socratesspeech. While the first two speech serve to portray that there is a difference, Platoshowcases his opinions through Diotima s speech. She defines true love as the appreciation of the abstract idea of Beauty.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her argument is similar to theirs in the sense that they all establish a clear divide between different types, or levels, of love. In Diotima s case, the false part of false love doesn t mean incorrect, but means that it is the beginning stage that is on the path towards true love. Being on the lower parts of the ladder would be expressing false love in this case, but this false love has the potential to turn into true love. Using Diotima s speech and Socrates comments and recollection of their conversation proves that Plato is in agreement with this perspective. Diotima was not present to recite her speech in The Symposium, but her speech was recounted by Socrates. The fact that her speech was recounted in this fashion shows Plato s agreement with her perspective, because he is known for including his commentary and viewpoints through Socrates in his books. This is further proven in translator R.E. Allen s comments about the Ladder of Love section when he states, It has been suggested that in the opening words of this section, Plato intimates that what is to follow goes beyond the teaching of the historical Socrates, that the revelation of the transcendental Form of Beauty is peculiarly Plato s own. (78). This allows for Diotima s comments on love to be read as Plato s and it is highly likely that he is contributing his own thoughts in his recollection of the conversation between Diotima and Socrates. Plato also usually agrees with Socrates, and since Socrates uses his conversation with Diotima in his speech, Plato agrees as well. Because he agrees with her perspective, he believes that there is a difference between true and false love, based off the differences that Diotima noted in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Effects Of Fossil Fuels And High Levels Of Greenhouse... Introduction The phrase sustainable development is defined as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. To create an impact on lowering the usage of fossil fuels and high levels of greenhouse gases there are several different forms of renewable energy available for worldwide use today. This includes biofuels (bioethanol and biodiesel), biomass, geothermal energy, hydroelectric power stations, solar powered cells, and wind turbines to name a handful of sources of energy. Solar energy from the sun can also be derived to produce photochemical, photoelectric, and photovoltaic energy to diversify its format. By increasing uses of fossil fuels we endanger ourselves with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The protocol agreement suggested countries were required to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions to 5% against levels produced in 1990. A further extension was agreed to depreciate the emissions by 18% below the levels in 1990 during an eight year time period from 2013 to 2020. The triple bottom line (TBL) effect is taken into consideration when used to describe the sustainability of an industry. This is an accounting framework measuring the economic, environmental, and social aspects over a specific period of time. With the diversity of renewable energy and its different formats, it is an effective method to impose and produce a TBL. These results in accelerating profits and decelerating emissions of greenhouse gases produced by fossil fuel combusting power stations and also nuclear power stations. Creating renewable energy projects result in more jobs for qualified people for installation and labour processes. Although the initial cost of installation for renewable sources of energy is high, the maintenance costs are low and are easily accessible, for example solar panels and wind turbine farms. The production of wind turbine farms has drawn eyebrows for many local communities complaining about them to be visually displeasing. However, many renewable energy projects increase domestic revenues on tourism. A prominent example being the Hoover Dam situated on the border of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis Of The Book Little Red Cap By Angela Carter Fairytales subvert, challenge or reaffirm archetypal values through didactic lenses. The presence of universal themes allows for an examination of contextual shifts and by being malleable in nature, can be made relevant to different audiences. The Brothers Grimm s Little Red Cap , Angela Carter s The Company of Wolves and Tommy Wirkola s film, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters all promote their hegemonic ideologies and as cultural artefacts extrapolate the contextual values of their time period. Carl Jung s theory of the Collective Unconscious ensures that each of these fairytale adaptations can retain their archetypal valueand thus remain significant and relevant in contemporary circumstances. The Brother Grimm s 19th Century Fairytale, Little Red Cap reflects the hegemonies of its context through its cautionary justification. Grimm s work reflected the importance of German national cohesion under French occupation and the view towards foreigners as destructive usurpers. Little Red Cap was adapted for instructional purposes, specifically aimed at a children s audience. Initially in the tale, the subversion of Perrault s depiction of the girl is evident exemplifying her as a sweet little girl and the hyperbolic everybody loved her instantly on first sight demonstrates the engrained virtue of her youth. The instruction for Little Red Cap to not stray from the path foreshadows the inherent danger associated with a misguided venture. The symbolism of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. A Brief Look at Antiangiogenic Therapy Although laser photocoagulation and PDT destroy pathological vessels, they neither extenuate the primary angiogenic stimuli nor prevent the development of new vessel. Antiangiogenic substances are able to resolve these problems. Antiangiogenic therapy prevents recurrence of AMD by reversing the CNV lesions. Pegaptanib (brand name: Macugen) was the first intravitreal pharmacotherapy approved by the FDA in 2004. It binds to VEGF165 and is responsible for blood retinal barrier breakdown and pathological intraocular neovascularisation , subsequently inhibiting pathological leakage and angiogenesis. According to the results of the VEGF Inhibition Study in Ocular Neovascularisation (VISION) trial, pegaptanib is proven to be an effective therapy for wet AMD. However, reinjections have to be done regularly as the molecule of pegaptanib is degraded enzymatically by intraocular nucleases. Endophtalmitis, traumatic lens injury and retinal detachment were also observed in the patients receiving this treatment. In 2006, FDA approved the usage of ranibizumab (brand name: Lucentis), a humanized monoclonal antibody fragment that has a high affinity for VEGF, as a therapeutic option for wet AMD. Ranibizumab is different from pegaptanib as it is not restricted only to binding VEGF165 isoform but binds to all human VEGF isoform. It reduces leakage in vessels as well as decreases retinal and choroidal neovascularisation in animal models. The findings of MARINA study demonstrated that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With little natural resources to support them, these islands rely heavily on specialized ecosystems, such as the coral reefs and mangrove forests, for sources of food and income through tourism. With a special adaptation to salt water and a unique ability to thrive in oxygen depleted environmentals, mangrove forests are among one of the most common wetland systems in the US Virgin Islands. Mangrove forest provide a breeding habitat and home for a plethora of wildlife, with 90% of the indigenous and migratory bird species relying on the wetland for feeding and breeding. ARTH 1381 Mon/ Wed/ Fri 10 11AM I pledge that in the following paper, I have not represented as my own work the work of another without appropriately acknowledging the source. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the influence of mannerism in Renaissance , the composition of the figures intertwine and create not just complex composition but a dynamic three dimensional space. Both of the child have its left leg stepping forward, however, because of the diagonal composition in the Dolci painting and the depth expressed by the diagonal accent, it enhances the three dimensional effect. Dolci s composition is also more unified meaning the subjects form a dynamic composition relationship. There is more variation of postures in the painting and their limbs, accessories are more intertwined. The scene seems more like a happening than a positioned, still portrait. Romano s composition of the space seem to be more layer based and there are less spatial relationships between the figures. Dolci also introduced a new technique by cropping the image of the subjects with a slight highlighted line. This new technique is unique in a way that it restraint the subject in another area than the frame. This enhances the three dimensional effect evermore, giving the illusion as if the viewer would peek into the space inside of the painting, instead of looking directly at the image and associating it with areas outside of the painting such as a frame which naturally limits space and create a barrier between the viewer and the subjects in painting ... • 11. Decline And Rise Of Traditional Medicine The Decline and Rise of Traditional Medicine In his book The Inconvenient Indian, Thomas King makes reference to the greatly reduced populations of the indigenous population caused by the arrival of western diseases. In this essay I intend to explore the ways in which the trajectory of the first nation s community was forever changed not just by the effects of land appropriation but also by other side effects of colonisation. I want to review how the traditional methods of health care, which had serviced the indigenous population for centuries, were challenged by the onslaught of new diseases and later pushed underground by the government s assimilation attempts and how they have survived these challenges to meet the needs of modern day indigenous Canadians. In an early copy of The Scientific Monthly, Dr. Hrdlicka of the Smithsonian Institute, was quoted as saying that before its discovery by Columbus, America was one of the most healthful of continents, if not the most so. This health status could be attributed to the lifestyle of the indigenous people, their food varying according to the locality where they lived, was meat, fish, vegetables (often eaten raw), nuts, seeds and fruits. Few areas had all these possibilities but, since Indians ate every part of an animal and every edible plant in their locality, they came close an optimal diet. • 13. Genocide, The Rwandan Genocide And The Bosnian Genocide Three genocides that have taken place since the Holocaust are the Cambodian genocide, the Rwandan genocide, and The Bosnian Genocide. The term genocide was defined by the United Nations in 1948 meaning following acts such as killing, causing serious physical/mental harm, or deliberately inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring physical destruction, with intent to destroy a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group. Genocides do not just happen out of nowhere, often it is due to long standing conflicts with religious or cultural groups and a desire to have power and control from either sides of conflict. Although the Holocaust is the most well known genocide, people often forget that genocides still happen and that some have ended only recently. One genocide that occurred after World War II was in the 1970 s. The Cambodian genocide lasted from 1975 till 1979 and was caused by a number of events. In 1970 Cambodia s ruler, Prince Sihanouk, was deposed in a military coup. A new right wing government was established and a lieutenant general, Lon Nol, was made president of the Khmer Republic. Sihanouk and his followers joined forces with a communist guerrilla organization lead by Pol Pot known as the Khmer Rouge. They attacked Lon Nol s army and a Civil war broke out. We shouldn t abuse our friends, we should care for our friends. They re all important! Friends can provide support, comfort, and help and even have fun with each other. When I look for friends, I make sure that they possess many qualities. Some traits I look for in a friend is that they re kind, honest, trustworthy and accepting of my unique ideas. I have many people that fall under this category, but for this essay, I have decided to write about one who stands out. Her name is Aria. Aria is a friend who falls under all of these qualities. She s kind, trustworthy and provides support and comfort. Aria and I have a deep friendship. Aria is a kind person. She cares for each and every one of her friends. An example is when she provides food for me and others. I remember in kindergarten when she brought me a slice of pizza for lunch. More specifically, a tomato basil slice of pizza. Anyways, I remember feeling strange and weird as this had never happened to me. Before this, I had never gotten food, or any item, from anyone. It was a new experience. Another example is that Aria puts her peers before herself. A couple weeks ago, we were playing Volleyball. Aria would set up her peers for spikes, a move that is hard to accomplish in this sport. Usually, people only care about themselves, and only ask people to set them up. Aria could easily become one of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She covered the history behind the women led reformation of sexual pleasure and desire in women, and spoke about the anti masturbation movement, which was surprisingly lead by women in the same era. I found these talks to be very interesting in that they covered a discrepancy between the wonder of sex, and the female reintroduction to knowledge about their body, and anti masturbation, which was an ideology enforced by women of that time. An overarching theme in the 19th centurywas the ideology of passionlessness. This claimed that women were incapable of experiencing sexual pleasure, and had no sexual desire. It was prevalent throughout the early 19th century, but middle class reformers shifted this view in the 1830s. Male lecturers used to only give men talks about their own sexual bodies, but the reform was headed by these lecturers as well. They began to speak about woman s sexual bodies, emphasizing that women have as much sexual desire as men, and could achieve orgasmthrough hetrosexual sex. Women from the middle class, and lower middle class, attended these lectures to gather information on their own bodies. 19th century women did not know about their own bodies as they did in the past, which attracted women to these lectures, in an attempt to re obtain this held knowledge. The popularity of these lectures not only caused a reform against the ideology of passionlessness, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. The Cosmological Argument Analysis The early idea of the cosmological argument was developed by two historic philosophers named Plato and Aristotle. The idea of the cosmological argument was to provide the proof of the existence of God. A philosopher named Saint Thomas Aquinas then took this idea and developed it into what he calls his The Five Ways . The five ways that Aquinas provided to prove that God existed is by the unmoved mover, the first cause, the argument from contingency, and the argument from degree. The first of the five ways that Aquinas proves that god exists is the idea of the unmoved mover or prime mover . Aquinas believes that all things that are natural are in motion and are finite. Since everything natural is in motion and finite then a first mover must exist. If the first mover or the prime mover does not exist then there would be no other mover and nothing natural would be in motion. The natural things around us are not able to move by their own so the existence of the prime mover is created. Aquinas believes God is the first mover of the universe, unmoved by no one else, which makes God the unmoved mover. God set the universe in motion because nothing moves itself; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aquinas s second reasoning is very similar to his idea of the unmoved mover and they take place simultaneously. Aquinas believes that everything has a cause. He does not believe in the idea of an infinite cause because that cause can be traced back to the first cause which makes it finite. Since everything is finite then there must be a first efficient cause for itself. Without a first cause there would be no later causes which, therefore means, nothing at all would exist. It is impossible for the first cause to have a cause. Later in the text, when Gjorg is on his way to pay the blood tax, he thinks about the rules of the Kanun, and says that he could not escape its definitions (pg 27). Again, the tone is very negative, and Kadare uses the phrase could not escape to emphasize that no matter how much Gjorg wanted to, he had to obey the rules and definitions within the Kanun. Why Is Balance Control Important How Important Is Ankle Proprioception for Balance Control in Sport Performance and Injury Abstract Balance control improvement is one of the most important goals in sports and exercise. Better balance is strongly positively associated with enhanced athletic performance and negatively associated with lower limb sports injuries. Proprioception plays an essential role in balance control, and ankle proprioception is arguably the most important. This paper reviews ankle proprioception and explores possible links with balance control, specifically in a sport context. Central processing of ankle proprioceptive information, along with other sensory information, enables integration for balance control. Care must be taken when assessing ankle proprioception to ensure that the method used has ecologically valid and allows proprioceptive signals to be integrated in the central nervous system and reflects the signal noise nature of central processing. Ankle proprioceptive intervention concepts driven by the central processing theory are further proposed and discussed for the improvement of balance control in sport. Introduction ... Alzheimer s Disease ( Ad ) Alzheimer s disease (AD) is a disorder that is characterized by degeneration of the hippocampal and cortical neurons of the brain causing memory impairment and a decline in cognitive abilities. The current study by Ghoneim et al.1 focuses on the role of three proteins in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer s. Brainderived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) signaling is important for development and maintenance of normal neuronal circuits in the brain. Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) is expressed by astrocytes in the central nervous system in response to neurondamage. Ki 67 is a protein that is responsible for detecting cell proliferation. Ghoneim et al. designed their study to explore the effects of caffeineintake on the expression of these proteins in rats induced with AD. Caffeine is hypothesized to have a protective effect against AD for a multitude of reasons. It is believed that caffeine has the potential to reduce amyloid beta accumulation because it is associated with reduced oxidative stress. It could also reduce the effects of the inflammatory response which is a well known trademark of AD. Lastly, caffeine has been identified to have a role in maintaining the blood brain barrier. Previously, it has been suggested that drinking 3 5 cups of coffee per day during midlife is associated with a 65% decreased risk of dementia/Alzheimer s in the elderly. The first having to deal with women having higher verbal abilities, the second being mathematical in where men are higher and third being spatial abilities which also has men being higher. With the spatial abilities though there is evidence that women have an advantage on some tasks. Cognitive sex differences I think are more social than environmental because of things like stereotype threat in where the person knows of the stereotype and it negatively affects their performance. In the Smith and white 2012 study found that the performance of college women was worse on a math test when they heard that men do better on this type of test, but men performance also declined when they heard that Asians outperform whites. the knowledge of stereotypes has many effects on boys and girls one it makes them not try as hard because they think it is expected of them to do worse. Yes, I believe that real differences can be reduced through interventions. Johns et al (2005) found that women who were informed of the potential effects of genderbased stereotype threat performed better than women who were not. This finding suggests that having explicit conversations with stigmatized students about stereotype threat and its effects may be a simple yet highly effective intervention. • 34. A Genetic Engineering Outline oTH Morgan concluded that chromosome play an important part in heredity and the passing on genetic traits o Griffith injected mice with different types of bacteria and when he injected them with S cells, the mice died. When the mice were injected with the R cells, they continued to live. The mice would survive if they were injected with heat killed S Cells but died when given a dosage of heat killed S Cells and normal R Cells. The reaction of the two cells was the possible and most likely death of the mouse. o Avery, Macleod, and McCarthy took the findings of Griffith and wanted to reason why the combination of the two cells killed the mouse. The took the different parts which would cause the DNA, Protein, and RNA and eventually eliminated them one by one. After all of that, only bacteria that was exposed to the S strain DNA were transformed. This gave the idea that DNA is what was controlling living things and was the outcome of this experiment o Hershey and Chase Radioactively tagged and then tracked infected bacteria in order to prove that DNA was in fact the molecule of heredity and transferring of genetic material o Chargaff proved two very important rules about DNA, All species have different amounts of adenine, thymine, cytosine and guanine in their DNA The Amount of Adenine, Cytosine, Guanine and Thymine in each species DNA is different. o Crick and Watson used X ray diffraction data, which Rosalind Franklin developed which was then used to develop the double ... • 37. Risks of Teenagers Obtaining a Driver s Licence Most teens look forward to getting a driver s license. But that may change if they know that they have a much higher risk of having a motor accident than adult drivers. In the United States, driving accidents are a leading cause of death among teenagers. These accidents happen mostly in populated cities. This problem has caused each state to have its own drivinglaws for teens. Although this problem is already a priority in many states, it should get more attention from the general public, especially teens. It is important for people to know about driving laws because these laws can help establish safe driving habits. California laws that attempt to decrease teen caused auto accidentsinclude establishing a minimum age for passengers of teenage drivers. In California, a new driver cannot transport anyone who is under 20 years of age unless a licensed adult is also in the vehicle. Another effective law in California requires teen drivers to have at least 50 hours of supervised driving during the learner s permit stage. This law is effective because it allows teens to learn how to drive safely on the road with the help of an experienced driver. Although some laws are effective, teens are still known to cause accidents. Therefore, a solution should be proposed to the state governments that will call for a law that requires teens to take an annual mandatory driving testfor a certain number of years after obtaining a license. Those who trade of sex for compensation tend to engage in injection drug use, thus increasing risk of STIs, like syphilis (Frost et al., 2006). Log linear models were used to investigate the association between the status of the recruiter and those they referred. The variance was due to that the pattern of recruitment model chosen and how much network size was assumed to affect sample probability. Results showed syphilis prevalence was increased in women and Tijuana in comparison to men and Cd. JuГЎrez. The results show that network size and gender are both potential confounders. The qualifiers for network size are subjective thus relate to the recruitee and syphilis level. Because female prostitutes are more likely to be IUD users, gender also relates to IDU and syphilis level. In conclusion, there was a low HIV prevalence, high syphilis prevalence, and the syphilis proportions may be underestimated due to RDS (Frost et al., 2006). Leopold describes, month by month, the activities of the animals and nature around him in such a way that one is able to truly appreciate the often missed miracles that are happening all around us. One can easily deduct that the theme of A Sand County Almanacis very boldly proclaimed as Leopold s writings tell us to pause for a moment to appreciate and conserve the beautiful world that surrounds us. Let us consider the two key words of the theme, appreciate and conserve. The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word appreciate as to, recognize the worth of ( Appreciate ). Leopold wants society to take a moment to recognize the worth of nature by providing us with a descriptive glance at elements of nature that we may often take for granted, such as animals foraging for food or the history of a tree. The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word conserve as to, protect (something, especially something of environmental or cultural importance) from harm or destruction ( Conserve ). Once we are able to appreciate nature, we become more aware of the importance of conservation. When you do not care about nature, it is easy to overuse and mistreat it in such a way that it harms the environment. (Fight Club, 1999), this quote shows that Tyler s unhappiness with reality is reason enough for him to create a different reality through adventure and the elements of adrenaline and danger in contrast to his average mediocre life. Tyler s adventurous spirit is seen through the creation of Fight Club where he puts himself in in extreme situations, just to see if he will survive and even when there is no possible way he can survive his adventurous ways he still challenges himself. For instance, in the beginning and end of the novel he is on top of a Skyscraper where a bomb is set to go off at a certain time, he has a pistol in his mouth and is ready to ...
