How Did Australia Celebrate The Gallipoli Campaign
As Australians, we all know of the Gallipoli Campaign, and to a certain extent the events that
occurred, although there are still many uncertainties surrounding it. To properly commemorate the
Campaign, first we must understand what really occurred on those shores, years go.
Australia was fighting at Gallipoli on account of the British The British planned to knock the
Ottoman Empire out of the war by attacking at Gallipoli. The battle started on the 25th of April
1915, which we of course recognize as Anzac day. On this event we tend to try make light of the
situation, but the reality is that the outcomes were brutal.
As soon as the Anzacs landed they already found themselves at a disadvantage for a number of
reasons. The previous naval bombardment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As more Turkish men arrived, the Anzacs lost their opportunity to make a significant advance into
the Turkish line.
By the end of the first day, the Anzacs had already failed to meet their first day objectives. On this
map you can see the red arrow here is where the Anzacs landed. This dotted line shows the
objectives they had; this line shows their actual gain.
May 1914, the Turkish men made an attempt to break through Anzac lines. This attempt was
unsuccessful, resulting in devastating loss on both sides. So much so that the Anzacs and Turkish
men both made an agreement to stop fighting for a few hours to bury the dead and collect the
wounded.
Between the 6th and 10th of August, The British decided to try and a new tactic by breaking the
deadlock and attacking Turkish strongholds at Lone Pine and The Nek. The Lone Pine attack was a
success for Australia, but resulted in huge costs to both sides. The battle of the Nek had an even

Emily Grierson Hierarchy
William Faulkner s short story A Rose for Emily depicts the need for a hierarchy by which to
rank and organize individuals by merit of their importance. Class, gender and race each play a
vital role in determining the interactions of Jefferson s residents. Notably, these issues affect how
Emily Grierson, Homer Barron, and Emily s Negro servant Tobe are treated by the townspeople,
as well as their behavior. Together race, gender and class portray and define the characters for who
they are and act to elucidate their positions in society. The hierarchy in Jefferson dictates that class
supersedes gender, which in turn, supersedes race.
At the center of Faulkner s story is Emily Grierson a proper, old fashioned monument to the past. ...

As Emily was considered an aristocrat of sorts in the town, her actions, inappropriate by any other
woman, continued without question. In Jefferson, class superseded the stereotypes against a
gender, and to an extent even law and logic.
With rumors of a romantic relationship between Homer and Emily, the townspeople s first
reaction was to reject the notion as folly. The women of the town speculate that a Grierson
would not think seriously of a Northerner, a day laborer while the town elders believed that
Emily would be unable to forget the noblesse oblige : the obligations of the higher class
(Faulkner 311). In the eyes of the town, it would be improper for a woman of such high class to
intermingle with a man of lower class. This, along with his affiliation with the Yankees, results in
the town turning against Homer, despite his seemingly agreeable personality. Homer and Emily s
relationship created changes to the status quo. In turn these changes resulted in the summoning of
Emily s sister from Alabama; this decision, later regretted by the town, was a last ditch effort to
preserve the conventional order of class within Jefferson. Despite the criticism Emily receives, she
chooses to continue in her pursuit of Homer, demonstrating her continued indifference to the
opinions of those around her, a benefit available to her because of her social class.
Despite the abolishment of slavery across the United States in 1865, racism plays a role in the

Changing views about Community
The definition of the term community has a long and detailed history, encapsulating concerns of
belonging and identity, time and place, difference and similarity, exclusion or inclusion. There is
no much social literature about this concept before 1910. In 1915, C.J Galpin is the first one
who coins it, offering a clear sociological definition . It was used to demarcate the small rural
communities in terms of service area and trade surrounding a central village. (Harper and Dunham
1959). This first attempt of defining the community, was quickly followed by various competing
definitions. Some of them described community as a geographical area, others, focused on
community as a group of people living and sharing a particular location, place, while another
category, looked at it as a common area of life. For example, Frazer

Book Review of People of the Three Fires Essay
Book Review of People of the Three Fires
The book, People of the Three Fires, is written by three different people each describing a tribe in
detail. The book is very well written and relatively easy to understand. It is informative and was
written to be used as a teaching tool for schools. The book discusses the relationship between the
groups that lived in Michigan and surrounding areas.
James M. McClurken writes the first section, which deals with the Ottawa people. McClurken tells
about the Ottawa peoples relationship with the environment they lived in and how they adapted to
change when contacted by Europeans. One thing I found interesting about the Ottawa is their
beliefs. The Ottawa believed in respect for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This worries me somewhat because I think the house in which we live was part of the land given
to the Ottawa in the Treaty of 1855. While I feel bad that the Ottawa were cheated out of their
land, I don t think I should have to give up my house to right a 150 year old wrong.
Dr. James A. Clifton wrote the Pottawatomi section of People of the Three Fires. Clifton discusses
the same aspects of Potawatomi life as McClurken for the Ottawa. An interesting group of people
the Potawatomi held a certain advantage as they moved south from northern Michigan. Because
they were neighbors of the Chippewa and Ottawa they had the knowledge that tribes further south
did not have. The Potawatomi knew how to build birch bark canoes so trade was far easier for
them than for the Sauk or Fox. They thrived on the Mexican Trinity of beans corn and squash. They
were also accomplished hunters and fishermen. In the beginning they were farmers but they soon
became interested in the herds of buffalo that roamed the plains just south of them. Then no meal
was complete without some red meat. A description that I took to heart was that on page 50

The Rising Action Of The Crucible By Arthur Miller
The plot of a literary work is defined as the main events (storyline) of, in this case, a play, or
novel, movie, etc., devised and presented by the writer as an interrelated sequence. The plot
generally consists of an exposition, a main conflict, rising action, climactic event, falling action,
and a resolution. By this point in the play, Act III is beginning already in the rising action of the
play. Miller makes reading the concluding acts a rollercoaster ride by developing the plot uniquely
and particularly, making the reader eager for more. To begin with, the act opens in the vestry room
of the Salemmeeting house, now serving as the anteroom of the General Court (180). There is
already a bit of tension and conflict between the characters.

Comparing Farris And Morrison s Analysis
Farris presents himself as someone with a lot of knowledge on environmental issues, views
ANWR as a scenic area that should continue to be preserved, and describes oil companies as
holding mistaken views backed with faulty logic. Morrison presents herself as a valid
representation of the Alaskan people, views ANWR as a beautiful landscape with a rich variety
of life, and portrays oil companies as greedy people just using Alaska for profit. Although Farris
and Morrison share similar views, Farris language has sarcastic undertones while criticizing the
ANWR plan while Morrison s has more urgent and serious undertones. This could be explained by
the fact that Farris writing is geared toward a progressive online journal while Morrison s is geared

Irish Cases that Discuss the Meaning of Intention Essay
Irish Cases that Discuss the Meaning of Intention There are only two reported Irish cases which
discuss the meaning of intention, one in the context of attempted murder, and the other in the
context of capital murder. These cases rely on the relevant English authority pertaining to the
definition of intention , and so it is proposed to deal mainly with the latter cases here. Both the
Irish and English cases are set out below in chronological sequence.

Accordingly, as this state of mind was held to be a species of malice aforethought, it was not strictly
necessary to decide whether the accused actually intended to kill or cause grievous bodily harm.
Nevertheless, various views were expressed as to whether foresight of probable consequences
would amount to intention in the strict sense.
Lord Hailsham adopted the definition of intention laid down by Asquith L.J. in the civil case of
Cunliffe v Goodman:
An intention , to my mind, connotes a state of affairs which the party intending ...does more than
merely contemplate. It connotes a state of affairs which, on the contrary, he decides, so far as in
him lies, to bring about, and which, in point of possibility, he has a reasonable prospect of being
able to bring about by his own act of volition.
Lord Hailsham also indicated that foresight of probable consequences was not the same as
intention. Although foresight of probable consequences (or degrees of likelihood) was an essential
factor that should be placed before the jury in determining whether the consequences were intended,
the two concepts were distinct.
Although Viscount Dilhorne did not find it necessary to decide whether knowledge of a high
probability constituted the necessary intention, he inclined towards the view that such knowledge
did constitute the necessary intention.

The Growing Concerns And Uncertainties Over Joshua s...
The growing concerns and uncertainties over Joshua s leadership spiraled in Deuteronomy, and
God ordered Moses to encourage Joshua. The result is an abundance of inspiring texts that Joshua
surely needed (Angel, 2009):
Joshua son of Nun, who attends you, he shall enter it. Imbue him with strength, for he shall allot it
to Israel (Deuteronomy 1:38).
Give Joshua his instructions, and imbue him with strength and courage, for he shall go across at
the head of this people, and he shall allot to them the land that you may only see (Deuteronomy
3:28).
Then Moses called Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel: Be strong and resolute, for it is
you who shall go with this people into the land that the Lord swore to their fathers to give them,
and it is you who shall apportion it to them (Deuteronomy 31:7).
And He charged Joshua son of Nun: Be strong and resolute: for you shall bring the Israelites into
the land that I promised them on oath, and I will be with you (Deuteronomy 31:23).
These fears are carried over into the Book of Joshua. After Moses died, God encouraged Joshua to
be strong and resolute three times in four verses (Angel, 2009):
Be strong and resolute, for you shall apportion to this people the land that I swore to their fathers
to assign to them. But you must be very strong and resolute to observe faithfully all the Teaching
that My servant Moses enjoined upon you . . . . I charge you: Be strong and resolute; do not be

Journey s End by R.C Sherriff.
How does Journey s End show the effects of war on the
men involved?
Journey s End is a play about British soldiers in World War One, and the effects the war has on
them, both physically and mentally. The play explores many aspects of war life, including
friendship, alcoholism, class boundaries and the lifestyle of the men in the trenches. This essay
explores how the play shows the effects of war on those involved, looking at use of dialogue,
lighting, props and other key dramatic devices. The essay will mainly focus on Act 3, Scene 2 of
the play, but relevant quotes from other scenes in Journey s End will also be used to help illustrate
points.

Raleigh s first reaction upon entering the trenches (Act 1) is that of surprise. He has been expecting
more noise and excitement, and says to Osborne, How frightfully quiet it is!
To begin with, Raleigh is very eager to go out and fight, but Osborne s death after the raid has a big
effect on him. He cannot understand how the men can sit, eating fine food and drinking
champagne ,when one of their closest companions has been killed. However, Raleigh does not
realise that the reason why they are doing this is to try and help themselves to forget the tragedy
that has occurred, and to boost morale amongst the men. Raleigh has misunderstood the situation,
and only realises his error at the end of Act 3 Scene 2, when Stanhope shouts, You think there s no
limit to what a man can bear? Raleigh tries to apologise, but Stanhope is too incensed with rage to
listen.
By the end of that particular scene, even though Raleigh has only been at war for a week, he is
already a changed person. His short battle experience has erased whatever distorted expectations
he has had before, and he now knows about the harsh realities of life in the trenches. We know
this because of his obvious change in mood and personality by Act 3 Scene 2 he says a lot less
than he has beforehand, and stage directions tell us at one point, Raleigh speaks in a low, halting
voice . R.C Sherriff has chosen to alter his speech and tone of voice to show the audience clearly

McMurphy is Not a Christ Figure in One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest
Literary fiction is littered with references to Christianity. It is very obviously a large and
influential force in the western world so it is hardly surprising that a novel such as One Flew Over
the Cuckoo s Nest, which is so questioning of our society and moral values, should be so full of
references to what is arguably the basis of these values. What the question asks, however, is if the
character of McMurphy is portrayed as a Christ figure. A Christ figure being a reflection of the New
Testament messiah within the characters actions, beliefs and effect on those around him. The

A Very Brief Biography of Alexander Dubcek
Alexander DubДЌek was the leader of Czechoslovakia in 1968. He was a communist, yet he
wanted to transform Czechoslovakia into a democratic nation. He was born in Uhrovek, Slovakia
on November 27th, 1921. His family moved to the Soviet Union in 1925. DubДЌek received an
early education in Kirgiziya and became a loyal communist. In 1944, he moved back to Slovakia
and secretly joined the Communist Party. After World War II, very loyal communists were
appointed to high government posts. Moscow wanted all these countries to be loyal without
question. DubДЌek was not at the point to be offered these jobs, but did become a Communist
Party official in 1949. He was then sent to Political School from 1955 till 1958. When he returned,
he became a Chief secretary of the regional committee in Bratislava in 1958. DubДЌek was known
as a reliable member who did not want to mess up the system. He eventually became a full member
of the Central Committee s Presidium in 1962. After he attained this position, he permitted himself
to be known as the mortal who would succeed Antonin NovotnГї. NovotnГї could not solve the
very difficult economic situation that Czechoslovakiawas facing. DubДЌek succeeded NovotnГї on
January 5th, 1968. In early 1968, the people of Czechoslovakia were given more freedom. This

The subject of the two works are different even though the models of the figures within both of the

Also remaining on the topic of the figures, Cassatt s figure is more conservatively dressed and

version of the painting featured the right strap of the gown suggestively slipping off the shoulder
and was later repainted by Sargent in hopes to appease the critics and reverse some of the damage
done by the piece. The use of color is also what definitely sets these two works apart and gives
them such opposing vibes. Mary Cassatt s The Cup of Tea handles light and color a lot more
vibrantly. The color palate is light in value and showcases primarily pastel colors and warm
colored skin while Sargent s piece is darker in value with pale ghostly colored skin. In the peer

Speciation in the Butterfly Essay
Recent studies into the genome of the various Heliconius butterflies, has shown a clear
indication of the process of speciation. Speciation is usually thought of as a long term process,
just like the process of evolution. Very few changes to the genome are needed to create the
possibility of a new species evolving even if the original species is still in contact and
reproducing. Once the changes to the genome have begun, the evolutionary divergence is a rapid
process that results in a new genetically isolated species. Speciation is the divergence of a
population into different species. There are two forms of speciation; allopatric, where physical or
environmental factors can cause a population to form a new species, or sympatric, where a... Show

Researchers have analyzed the genome of two subspecies of the Heliconius butterfly having only
recently diverged into subspecies in order to locate the genetic differences that are the critical
points for speciation. These two subspecies are still able to interbreed and are located in the
similar ecological habitats; therefore these butterflies will be able to experience a small amount of
genetic exchange. This ability of regular exchange causes the unimportant variants in the process of
speciation to become silent the researchers found that this allowed them to locate the main genetic
areas that natural selection has influenced. In the research they determined that the two Heliconius
butterfly species genome had only 12 differing regions and the rest of the genome was nearly
identical. Of the 12 differences eight of these they found to code for the wing color patterning, a
key trait as it affects mating and avoiding predators in their perspective environments, the other four
were still yet undetermined. In a second test they compared the two previous genomes to a third
Heliconius species. The third species was farther removed on the evolutionary time scale but was
still closely related to the previous groups. The comparison showed the genomes to have hundreds
of differences; they concluded that once the initial genetic changes

The Bloody Root Of Titus Andronicus
The Bloody Root of Titus Andronicus: An Argument of Intent and Origin
There are have been many arguments throughout the history of Shakespearean academia regarding
the validity of Shakespeare s authorship to Titus Andronicus, and the critics have not been shy to
express their discontent of its seemingly endless violent montage. As Michael Fentiman and Harold
Fuller point out of what Dr. Samuel Johnson spoke to in 1765,
all the editors and critics agree in supposing this play spurious...for the colour of style is wholly
different from that of the other plays, the barbarity of the spectacles and the general massacre
which are here exhibited can scarcely be tolerable...That Shakespeare wrote any part...I see no

Virtually, all the central characters killed each other off in a downward spiral of luscious
revenge (Shakespeare). It is striking in its contrast to the likes of Romeo and Juliet or Hamlet or
Macbeth to where Shakespeare dove deep into the emotions and psyche of human life
(RedEyesTakeWarning). Violence and death were not foreign concepts to the people of the
Elizabethan era, as medieval life was chocked full of war, famine, and plague. In the case of
entertainment, violence and death were no strangers as people would flock to see bear baiting,
including Queen Elizabeth. (Mabillard).
Allistair Brown claims that we take entertainment out of simulated violence because it is cathartic
(Brown). Brown also argues that, Violence becomes comic because laughter, denying the reality or
seriousness of whatever threatens, is a way of dealing with trauma (Brown). With the world being
consumed with death at every doorstep, what is so far fetched at the notion that Titus Andronicusis
an extremely dark comedy to help a broken soul cope with the grim reality of medieval life? As
there is almost nothing else for society to take away as a benefit from the play
(RedEyesTakeWarning), what else could it be? There are already plenty of examples in literature
that deliver morals and lessons learned from seeking revenge. Why

the systematic intervention along with the identified behaviours of Chinese students in Hong Kong
working in team. The researchers further demonstrated that students have developed the improved
awareness along with the conception of teamwork after the development of systematic efforts.
However, the authors noticed a decline in the division of work in the session of post test, which
reflects a change of mindset of students in the appropriate direction. Moreover, certain changes
have been observed in the students during interviews and it has been pointed out that the students

Euthanasia: Why It Should Be Legal
In the past, a doctor was a friend who treated the diseases. Now a doctor is a stranger who
combats diseases. Their job is not only to prevent death but also to improve the patient s quality
of life. Lots of times there is nothing a doctor can do to prevent a patient from dying if the patient
has a terminal disease; all they can do is wait for death to arrive. This waiting time can be very
painful for both the patients and the people who surround them. Not practicing euthanasia at the
request of the dying person is violating a person s rights, interfering with a doctor s job, and
increasing suffering.
First off, deciding if someone wants to be alive or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hospitals are just wasting time and money on a situation that won t get better. If the patient wants
euthanasia they deserve a quick and painless death. Doctors cannot end the huge amount of money
wasted on a treatment that won t help so why not alleviate some of those expenses from family
members and taxpayers.
Doctors should be allowed to end life, especially when the person desires it. I am only doing what I,
as a physician, should do . (Kevorkian 170) It doesn t make sense that they can keep someone alive
without having the opportunity to ask that person if they want to be living like that. Many patients
now find themselves unable to live without machines that restrict their movements and often cause
different kinds of pain, and some may prefer not to live at all . (Marzilli 69) The doctor is just the
person who helps the patient to do what they desire.
Many would say what makes life sustaining treatment none beneficial or too big of a burden if it
can achieve its design of saving life. On the other hand, if death is in the best interests of some
patients if the withdrawal of life sustaining treatment can be said to be of benefit in this case then
death constitutes a moral good for these patients . (Doyal) Incompetent patients are unable to
benefit from further treatment or find it too large of a burden if they cannot benefit from being
alive any longer. When the continuing use of life sustaining treatment is to be of no benefit or of
too much burden, the doctor

What Internal Pressures Are Impacting On The Organization
Q1 What internal pressures were impacting on the organisation in your situation, and how did the
organisation respond to those pressures?
Kaplan International is the type of company that relies its sales growth on technology. The
organisation uses a wide range of online marketing options in order to get the attention of potential
customers and create lead generation. To create leads is the term the company uses for acquiring a
new potential customers contact details that can lead to a closed deal. As web technology is the
main tool to increase sales, Kaplan International needs to improve their websites constantly by
making them more user friendly. This improvement can go from changing the website s colour to
creating a new navigation structure. And this was the challenge Kaplan International had to face
two months ago, when its growth sales report was released to web marketing and sales department
managers, stating that the sales numbers were lower than last year. According to the report the
current website was not generating as many leads as usual. This change in numbers was the result
of people just clicking on the company s website, but never filling forms in order to request further
product information.
The main internal pressure Kaplan International had to confront was to increment its leads. As
technology affects most operations within Kaplan International, effective decision making was
crucial for the company s improvement. Key questions such as: How do we

Compare And Contrast The Dependency Theory And The World...
Dependency Theory and The World System Approach The dependency theory and the world system
approach are from the most remarkable approaches to the study of Comparative Politics. At the first
half of the twentieth century traditional approaches like the formal legal approach dominated the
field however later during the 60s the political development approach was the most dominant one.
However the Vietnam War along with other events like Watergate, the assassination of Robert
Kennedy and the Cold War can be considered a turning point in the history of the study as it gave
rise to many alternatives to political development including the dependency theory and the world
system approach. The Dependency theory was especially popular among leftist scholars, the theory
supposes that development in the third worldcountries is dependent on development in the already
developed nations however sometimes there might be a conflict between the two processes. It

Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma
Non Hodgkin s Lymphoma
Introduction According to the American Cancer Society website, Non Hodgkin lymphoma (also
known as non Hodgkin s lymphoma, Non Hodgkin s disease, NHL, or sometimes just lymphoma)
is a cancer that starts in the cells of the lymph system, which is part of the body s immune
system.1 It is a type of cancer of the blood that affects the white blood cells, which are usually
involved in protecting against infections. NHL is not a single disease, but rather a group of at least

The most common sign and symptom of NHL is a painless swelling in one or more of the lymph
nodes in the neck (Figure 2), collarbone region, armpits, or groin. These are easily seen or felt as
lumps under the skin. When the lymphoid tissue inside the abdomen is involved, the abdomen
can become tender, painful, and or swollen. This may be due to either a tumor or to large
collections of fluid, the pressure or blockage of this tumor can cause nausea, vomiting, or
blockage of feces. When lymphomas start in the thymus or lymph nodes in the chest, it may
irritate or compress the nearby trachea, which can lead to coughing and trouble breathing.
Superior Vena Cava syndrome also is a result when lymphomas are located in or near the thymus

Essay Before Breakfast by Eugene O Neill
Before Breakfast
Before Breakfast is a short gloomy play by Eugene O Neill. Eugene O Neill was born in 1888 in
New York City. He is the only American dramatist to ever win the Nobel Prize for literature.
Before Breakfast is set in the Greenwich Village section of New York City, in a small one room
flat on Christopher Street. The flat consists of a kitchen and dinning area. There are only two
characters in this drama. Mrs. Roland who is the only speaking character and her husband Alfred.
Alfred s hand is seen once in the play, but not much else. This is symbolic of an absentee husband
or a non existent marriage. Although, Alfred is not seen, he contributes a great deal to the conflict.
With only Mrs. Rowland on stage, O Neill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The child, the reason the couple married, born dead. Alfred unable to sell his writings, is
depressed. His depression contributes to a self destructive lifestyle, dragging his wife along with
him. It was inevitable the marriage would fail.
Mrs. Rowland, the protagonist, is portrayed as the stereotypical nagging wife. While a flat
character, she is very realistic. Her level of diction implies her lack of education, she is also
bitter towards her husband. Her bitterness is not unfounded. Alfred is of no help, Heaven knows
I do my part and more going out sewing every day while you play the gentleman and loaf around
bar rooms with that good for nothing lot of artists from the Square (Jacobs 1211). Mrs. Rowland
s husband is adulterous and can not hold down a job. Mrs. Rowland loves her husband, although
she does not like the way he treats her. She exhibited love by continually enabling him, paying the
rent, providing food, and cleaning up after him. She regards Alfred s depression as laziness. Not
that I ve got any doubts about your being lazy enough to stay in bed forever (Jacobs 1211). After
learning Alfred s lover Helen, is pregnant, her frustration and disappointments only intensify.
Alfred the antagonist is a flat character, but also very realistic. He is the stereotypical insensitive,
substandard husband. Mrs. Rowland thought that Alfred loved her when he didn t let his father buy
her off. Alfred was suppose to be

Essay about chorus role in medea
The Chorus influences our response to Medea and her actions in both a positive and negative
manner. The Chorus, a body of approximately fifteen Corinthian women who associate the
audience with the actors, is able to persuade and govern us indirectly through sympathy for what
has been done to Medea, a princess of Colchis and the victim of her husband s betrayal of love for
another woman. The Chorusalso lead us to through sympathy for Medeato accept her decision of
taking revenge on princess Glauce and Jason. On the other hand the Corinthian women influence us
and our responses towards Medea negatively by pleading to her when she decides to kill the
children later in the story.
A way the Chorus influences our response to have pity and ... Show more content on

Once the Chorus has explained the wrongs that have been done they accept Medea s decision to
seek revenge on Jason therefore leading us to also accept Medea s decision.
I ll do as you ask. To punish Jason will be just. (Page 25)
Another method the Chorus portrays is by governing or telling us how we should feel in an
indirect manner. In the scene where Medea has reached a dead end and has no where and no one to
turn to the Chorus says.
Medea, poor Medea! Your grief touches our hearts. A wanderer, where can you turn? To what
welcoming house? To what protecting land? How wild with dread and danger is the sea where the
gods have set your course! (Page 28)
The Chorus explains to us that Medea has nothing to lose, that her situation is bleak and in some
way forces us to feel sorry for Medea and to favour her.
After the scene where Medea and Jason argue, the Chorus speaks more of Medea s hopeless
situation.
Dragging out an intolerable life in desperate helplessness! That is the most pitiful of all griefs;
death is better. Should such a day come to me I pray for death first. (Page 36)
The group of Corinthian women prefer death rather than exist through Medea s situation. They
move us to pity Medea.
You, Medea, have suffered the most shattering of blows... (Page 37)
Here we are brought to attention that Medea has been dealt the harshest of blows and we agree
with the Chorus words, another example of the Chorus convincingly influences our views.

Andrew Jackson Indian Removal Act Summary
Andrew Jackson s Presidency and the Indian Removal Act
Andrew Jackson was the seventh president of the United States, he won the presidential race for
his support of farmers and workingmen. His role as president led him to pass nine treaties and
Indian Removal Act, although everything he passed was not what was promised. There are now
questions about what the removal was, how Jackson got it passed, and is it what the Indians
expected it to be? President Jackson got the Indian Removal Act passed on May 28, 1830, when it
was passed it said that the move west would be voluntary and peaceful, although Jackson and his
administration had other plans for the Indians and their land.
This policy first came up during the process of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, although it did not
pass until the exchange of land with the government and Indians. The Indian Removal Act was
passed by Congress on May 28, 1830. This was passed by President Andrew Jackson, and stated it
gave him the power to peacefully and voluntarily give the Indians the option to move from the
states east of the Mississippi River to the unoccupied land west. When this was approved, most did
not think the land west of the Mississippi would ever be a part of the country. Since that was
believed, the wester land was promised as permanent homeland for those who moved, but after they
moved the government continually made the portion of land the Indians were promised smaller and

Greek Myth Of The Eighty-Eight Constellations
Out of the eighty eight officially recognized constellations, my favorite would be Gemini, The
Twins. This constellation happens to be my favorite because not only is it my Zodiac sign, but I
also find the Greek legend to be intriguing. The name Gemini means The Twins in Latin, the two
twins being Castor and Pollux. Also, as mentioned before, Gemini is one of the twelve Zodiac
signs. This sign was cataloged by the Greek Muggle Astronomer Ptolemy in the 2nd century.
Furthermore, Gemini is the 30th largest constellation and lies in the 2nd quadrant of the northern
hemisphere. The legend of the constellation Gemini is a Greek myth. Luckily, Gemini mythology is
pretty straightforward, while the origins of some other myths and legends are debated

Comparing The Osage Firebird And A Life Painting Animals
The stories The Osage Firebird by Sudipta Bardhan and A Life Painting Animals by Diana

Tallchief, from the story The Osage Firebird, becomes a great and well known ballerina although
she faces prejudice, criticism, and teasing when she was young. She turned into a great and
successful ballerina because she overcame many obstacles. Rosa Bonheur, from the story A Life

faced prejudice and had disagreements with her father. She did not let hurdles slow her down or
stop her from being successful. Both of the women in these stories had to overcome prejudice to
get where they wanted to be in their career. Marie faced prejudice because of her race and where
she came from, but did not let that stop her from getting where she wanted to be. When she was
in school she would get teased because of her Osage heritage and her name. Rosa also suffered
from prejudice because she was a girl and did not get to go to school for art. Instead she got

Julius Cicero Research Paper
Marcus Tullius Cicero was murdered on December 7, 43 B.C.E. which was around the time of
the fall of the Roman Republic. Cicero was many things such as an orator, lawyer, politician,
philosopher, and writer. His writings, to this day, are a valuable source of information about such
political events and was widely read in the 19th century. He also was dubbed one of the greatest
philosophers of the ancient era. One of his greatest pieces was Hortensius. This writing was based
on himself turning away from his sinful life and moving forward to God.
1.Cicero s Life
Cicero had a great political career. He defied the odds of what it took to be in politics. Usually, in
politics, you need to aristocratic and wealthy. Cicero and his family were aristocratic; however,
they were not wealthy. Ambition at a young age is what drove him to this success.
Cicero chose his career in law. He needed to prepare for this by studying jurisprudence, rhetoric,

more concerned about politics and their governance. In order for philosophy to appeal to the
Romans, he had to translate his writing from Greek to Latin. Cicero wrote many different dialogues
about his philosophies. However, one piece that was well known was the Hortensius. In that
dialogue, he was known to have converted St. Augustine to be a Christian. Augustine then adopted
some of his philosophy on the Hortensius to argue against others that Christians were not the cause
to the fall of the Roman empire. This related to the work that was done after Caesar took over the
Empire. People started to blame others and Augustine tried to turn their views

Deafness is NOT a Disability I don t remember much about my first two years of school; matter

sitting helpless, lost in my own world as I watched the others in the classroom scream with

my attention to the lesson. I wasn t a bit interested in anything outside playtime; or of course lunch.
First grade was no different. I was much less amused by reading and writing; which my teacher,

can they support learning(Earnest, 2012). This is a controversial issue that can go either way but

The narrator speaks throughout the short story about her dreams and how exciting they are. In
many of her dreams she s the bold courageous hero; rescuing civilians, galloping on a horse, and
fighting wolves. However, as the story progresses her dreams take a different turn, A story might
start off in the old way then things would change around, and instead, somebody would be rescuing
me. It might be a boy from our class at school, or even Mr. Campbell, our teacher, who tickled

Speech On Building Muscle
As you are probably already well aware, building muscle is not an easy task, and it is certainly
not just something that can happen in a matter of days, weeks, or possibly even months for that
matter. In order to build muscle and get your body into shape, you will need to completely change

technology, the world is influenced in superior and inferior ways which includes self driving and
the house featured in Ray Bradbury s short story ВЁThe VeldtВЁ.
Ray Bradbury s ВЁThe VeldtВЁ is about a family of four a mother, father, and their 2 kids. The
mom and dad decide to buy a house called the Happylife Home which comes with a nursery for
the children. This is not just an ordinary house, the Happylife Home is equipped with a feature that
does everything that is required by the family. Which includes cleaning, cooking, caring for their
children Peter and Wendy, dressing, and bathing the family. Throughout the lives of the children,
they use the nursery to escape reality. The children develop a sense of imagination within the
nursery which helps them take their mind off of things. Whenever the family is busy, this feature
serves a great deal of convenience for the family. Everyday tasks are less stressful and chaotic for
the family because the Happylife Home has everything under control. ... Show more content on

Napa Valley Wine Essay
In the Napa Valley winemaking is a pivotal part of life. Many people work in the wine industry
and the Napa Valley wouldn t be even close to as thriving as it is without it. When people that
don t live here, think of Napa, they think wine. Yet most people, if at all like me, have no idea
how the simple process of turning grapes into an alcoholic beverage works or where it came from.
The concept of making winesounds very strange, you let grape juice sit for a long time until it has
enough bacteria decompose it and it becomes alcoholic. Wine dates back to far further than Napa
has existed and arguably has had a massive impact on the history of civilization making
appearances in The Bible and many other places.
It must be said that wine was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wine was actually one of the first things to be cultivated in America by European settlers and is
seen on the maps of early American colonies dating back to 1585 (Pinney 6). Wine eventually
made its way to California with Catholic Missionaries in the 1780s. Fray Junipero Serra
established Catholic missions all along the coast of California all the way up to what is present day
Sonoma (Pinney 238). The optimal climate in California made wine making a very productive and
profitable business and is still cultivated today throughout the state. Aside from American
Prohibition from 1920 to 1933 when the consumption of alcohol was criminalized, California has
produced world class wines throughout the 20th and 21st centuries (LaMar).
There is no doubt that wine has played a pivotal role in the development of the modern world, all
the way back to when civilization was born in the Fertile Crescent around 6,000 B.C.E.. It
remains a crucial part of daily life in the lives of many all over the world from religious to
recreational purposes. Viticulture also has one of the most interesting and unique histories of any
beverage or food. So next time you see a bottle of wine, or vineyard remember that it has
contributed much more to the world than meets the

Goat Locker History
Goats, skulls, anchors, and snake tattoos; These are among the accepted symbols of the Chief
Petty Officer (CPO) ranks and define the image of Chief Petty Officer of today. It is important
for Chief Petty Officers to know the history of the Chiefs Mess to gain a sense of heritage in
order to maintain the tradition of the Chief. This essay will explore the origin and history of the
Goat Locker, the evolution of the recognizable symbols for the Chief Petty Officer and the effects
of those symbols on the reputation of the senior enlisted ranks. History When President Benjamin
Harrison signed General Order No. 409 on February 25th, 1893, no reference is made to a goat or

Goats are very social animals who live together in large herds. Yet, goats leave the herd
becoming very independent and then return to the herd (Bradford, 2015, para. 4). This is much
like the Chiefs on a ship that are very independent and self sustaining in their work centers but
come together and lean on the strength of the Chiefs Mess. The unity of the mess is represented
by the goat. The Goat Locker gives the Ship and its crew its collective Spirit (Wilson, 2014, para.
2). Even astrologers see the goat positively. Goats are seen as majestic, powerful, and versatile.
The goat reminds us to honor ourselves, honor our loftiest ideals and keep exploring our vistas
until we achieve our highest vision (Venefica, 2018, para.

The Intrinsic Value Of Facebook
What is the intrinsic value of a Facebook share? How does this valuation compare to the price
talk from underwriters? The intrinsic value of Facebook stock was very difficult to find, since the
company is relatively new and has been growing at an extreme rate. Based on the most recent sale
of Facebook stockvia a private transaction the per share price was $44 in March. However, based
on the DCF analysis by professor Aswath Damodaran the intrinsic value of a single Facebook
share would be $32.44. The problem is whenever using DCF analysis; the analysis is very
sensitive to all assumptions uses, which were plenty in the case of Facebook. The price talk
from underwriters varied immensely within the time from of February when the Red Herring
was filed, all the way to May. At the very beginning, price talks were anywhere from $20 mid $30
s. They were set to offer 337,415,352 shares. As the broader market continued in bullish trend
and momentum for the Facebook IPO became greater. Price talks now shifted to $28 $35 range.
Knowing that demand for the stock was said to be growing it was noted that many IPO are
priced conservative to leave room for a pop on the first day of trading. On May 11 CNBC made
a statement along the lines that demand was much greater than supply for the stock. Shortly after
on May 14, the price talks had now moved to $34 $38 range and now offering 421,233,615 shares,
the additional shares were all of insiders. This would set the companies valuation at

New Start Reflection
This summer I had the opportunity to do New Start a program for incoming freshmen at the
University of Arizona. The program is to support the transition from high school to college and
throughout the program you gain knowledge and tips not only just about the college but about
yourself. Using tools from class activities like SWOT and True Colors that helped me really
understand who I am and what are my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Within this
essay I will share with you my SWOT analysis and the things I learned about myself during the last
few weeks.
Strengths
Personal values I believe speak a great deal about a person and who they are and I learned that
my values reflect just that. During New Start we had an activity in class that forced us to pick
from a list of personal values and narrow them down and rank them in order of importance. My
top values included family, friends, school, and independence just to name a few. This activity
was especially challenging for me but in the end it helped me really look at what truly is
important to me. I had to apply this lesson from class in my life sooner than I expected. My
grandmother passed away during New Start and I had to decide if I wanted to miss school and
be with family but that also meant by missing school I d be missing out on important
information. In the end I choose to go to school the next day and be with my family afterwards.
That decision alone was very hard because in a situation such as mine there was a conflict of my
personal values my family is very important to me but school is just as important to me.
Although it was difficult for me to make that decision but the fact I had the ability to choose
between two of my own personal values is why I ve chosen to place knowing and understanding
my personal values as a strength. I know that throughout life there will be times when I will have
to choose once again between my personal values and as student like I ve mentioned earlier I m
going to make those decisions based on what matters to me and what won t always be there in the
end.
Another strength I have is goal setting towards the end of high school coming into this summer my
top goal was to get a job. I ve tried my best to

Barack Obama s Presidential Election Essay
Context Card: Subject: 2016 presidential race Audience: Voters of Hillary Clinton Writing
Situation: Why Hillary is not the candidate you want to be the next president. Thesis: Hillary
Clinton is a horrible choice for president and Trump is a much better choice when compared to
Hillary. Tone: Persuasive and showing why Donald Trump is the better candidate for the
presidential election than Hillary Clinton. Presidential Persuasion The 2016 presidential
election is said to be, one of the most controversial elections in recent history, with the two main
party nominee s being Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Many people would say that they don
t like the two main choices for the presidency, further proving this, a poll conducted by the Wall
Street Journal and NBC News that was taken in mid summer 2016 showed that Hillary
supporters voted for her because They did not like Trump. While Trump supporters voted for
Trump because They did not like Hillary. So It is easy to identify that voters are voting for their
respective candidate choice due to the factor being, they do not like the other candidate.
According to psychology; Emotion is stronger than logic when it comes to the mental process, so
it is safe to assume people are ignoring the facts and solely voting based on their emotions. Some
main topics of the Presidential Debate according to the people are that: Trump supporters believe
that Hillary wants to restrict gun laws, while Hillary supporters

Western Humanities Midterm Essay
During the course I realized how large of a role art plays in helping create cultures and developing
and preserving the history of civilizations. I find it interesting that when there s no written history
or any historical buildings, cultures will always make their own ancient past grander than what it
really is. The Israelites, the Greeks and Romans all tell stories of their history that has no written
proof. It seems that we as people want to have a connection to our roots and to understand where
we come from. This is why I believe that most people want to believe in a higher power.

Until now, I didn t realize how much Islam influenced art and practically kick started science. I
learned that the Abbasid caliphs established the House of Wisdom, a center of leaning and science.
They gathered manuscripts in Greek and Sanskrit along with scholars who could understand and
translate them from the areas that they conquered.
The Abbasids were the first ones to study and translate important Greek and Indian mathematical
book like Euclid s geometry text the Elements. They adopted a very Greek approach to
mathematics of formulating theorems precisely and proving them formally in Euclid s ways.
Islamists wrote many influential books on mathematics of algebra that we still use today. One of
the books described how to write numbers in calculations using the place value decimal system
which is what we use today. This concept was developed in India in A.D. 600 s which was
translated and adopted by Arabic mathematicians. About 300 years later this book was translated
into Latin and it became the major source for European academics to learn the new system. This
system is known as the Hindu Arabic system which is taught to schoolchildren around the world. It
s amazing that a system of calculations was brought to Europe from practically the other side of the
world. I wonder how long it would have taken to figure out the same system without Muslim
involvement.
I find it fascinating how almost a millennia ago

Homeless Youth Problem
Imagine being 16 and men bedroom being a sleeping bag under a bridge or a cot in an overfilled
shelter. Sadly that is a reality a lot of youth face. Homelessness is a huge problem alone, but
having so many young people on the streets is even worse. To solve this problem we must first
understand how young people are put in this position, how many young people are homeless,
and what being in this position does to them. The first step to fixing this issue is figuring out
who is in this position and why. Approximately 34% of the country s homeless population are
under the age of 24, why are these people homeless? Most youths become homeless because they
are running away from something. About 79% of homeless youth were being physically abused at
home and 39% were sexually abused. Youth identifying as members of the LGBT community
make up about 40% of the homeless youth population. Being homeless is not a choice these
young people (ranging from 12 24) have made. Sometimes it isn t even abuse or a lack of
acceptance that forces them into this life of poverty, in some case their families could not
financially support them and the rest of the family and they leave as to not burden them. Now, we
know who is homeless and why, we now need to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Key Ideas Of Mercantilism
Mercantilism is a political and economical system that continued on the 16th to late 18th century. It
means that a country s economic power is related to the maintenance of a positive balance of trade.
That is, in order to remain economically and politically exist, a country most export more than it
imports. Such a positive balance of trade, according to mercantilist thought, causes the gold to
surplus in the country s treasury. So as to achieve these, international trademust be done. Key ideas
of mercantilism is that national wealth will came through the accumulation of gold or other
precious metals such as silver. They can be acquired by export. Raw materials were imported and
final products were exported to provide a positive balance of trade. Colonial possessions should

Dworkin Paternalism
How does Dworkin define paternalism, and when does he think it is justified?
In addressing the principle of paternalism, Dworkin notes that there may be more cases in which
it should be justified than what Mill stated. First Dworkin defines paternalism as the interference
with a person s liberty of action justified by reasons referring exclusively to the welfare, good,
happiness, needs, interests or values of the person being coerced , although he later notes that in
some cases, paternalism may also extend to interferences with the liberty of parties whose interests
are not in question . He gives various examples of paternalistic laws and restrictions, such as the
laws requiring motorcyclists to wear safety helmets, regulating the use ... Show more content on

He does recognize that most individuals feel they have duties, whether they are religious or not, but
claims that this is a strength of the integrity argument because it allows people to understand better
why religious exemptions should be justified. Thus religious people are giving ways to better
fulfill their duties and enjoy the good of integrity than non religious people, who might feel that
they need exemptions as well to protect and enjoy theirs. Another point against religious
exemptions as they are advocated by Bou Habib is that we are meant to be equal before the law, so
to exempt certain categories of people to obey the law is undermining the concept of justice and
equality. In addition, most of the time laws are justified, meaning that exemptions are not. For
example, in many countries, including some in which Islam is the predominant religion, such as
Chad, it is forbidden to hide one s face in public areas for security reasons. So religious exemptions
allowing the wearing of burkas would undermine the efforts made to securitize societies, as it
enables fugitives to hide easily amongst many other things.
If there are cases that would justify religious exemptions and there are some , then maybe they
should not be prohibited by the law at all. Bou Habib s argument makes sense, but I maintain that
religious exemptions would have negative consequences as it would leads to

What Is The Difference Between Chris Langan And Robert...
Chris Langan and Robert Oppenheimer are both profound and intelligent authoritative figures, but
other than smarts they could not be more different. For example, Gladwell illustrates the early lives
of the men by detailing: Langon and Oppenheimer, both with very high IQs, both ran into problems
during college, Langon s mom forgot to fill out paperwork resulting in him losing his scholarship to
college, while Oppenheimer tried to poison his tutor resulting in merely just psychiatric treatment
(98). Langan had a very unfortunate childhood with not many opportunities to share his intelligence
with the world. On the other hand, Oppenheimer was supported morally and financially by his
parents, sent to the right schools and constantly given the benefit of the doubt when he caused
trouble. One of the reasons Oppenheimer unlike Langan was so successful due to his practical
intelligence or charm and savvy that allowed him to get his way. Chris Langan and Robert
Oppenheimer are both geniuses but Oppenheimer s practical intelligence gave him opportunities for
success that Chris Langan did not receive.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

times, or setbacks, was a golden opportunity that no one else received. In Flom s case, it was
becoming an expert on litigation cases. The quote suggests that hidden in his huge success story
was a product of his own setbacks and hardships that allowed him to be

Characterization in Pam Houston s A Blizzard Under Blue Sky
Houston s A Blizzard Under Blue Sky explores and exhibits the idea of psycho physical experience
of being in the natural world to heal one s psychological and emotional ailments through its
invigorating contact. The narrative, by drawing on the theme of depression, relates how the narrator,
seeing everything in [her] life...uncertain (Houston 185), goes winter camping alone in the high
country; undergoes a chilling near death experience; and gleefully returns reinvigorated with the
memory of joy , and hopefulness (188). Though highly personalized in the narrative, the narrator s
experience of depression is a common phenomenon and, Houston, in this sense, seems to ... Show

This all seems quite characteristic of a depressed mind to loathe what is around and be enchanted
by the mystic power of solitude away from the petty human world. While the protagonist decides
on winter camping despite the knowledge of the unforgiving freezing temperature there, the
warning of her housemate and disaster tales of winter camping fatalities (187), one is sceptic if she
has made up her mind out of love for nature.
Yet, the detailing of the protagonist s expedition leaves one wishing for a similar adventure. The
narrator s company of her two best friends, her dogs: Jackson and Hailey, seems to carry a special
significance for her. Their personification and the treatment as developing characters must have
some symbolic representation of the protagonist s personality that has been split now. The male
figure Jackson is an oversized sheepdog and something else that is tireless, adventurous and leader
like while the female figure Hailey is not so graceful , is in constant indecision as she runs and
stays behind the [protagonist] as they ski (185). While Jackson encourages the narrator to ski
harder, go faster, climb higher , she has to mediate between him and reluctant, groaning Hailey to
find an agreement. In a symbolic level, perhaps, Houston wants the readers to see the protagonist as
an embodiment of three distinct dispositions: conscience, optimism and depression. While the
protagonist herself represents her conscience, this

Noah Vs Gilgamesh
Various culture around the world at various times have written myths about catastrophic floods.
These myths contain different reasons and purposes behind the flood and why it was sent. Two of
the most notable and strikingly different flood accounts are Noah and the great flood found in
Genesis, and the Sumerian flood found in the Epic of Gilgamesh. The differences in these flood
accounts are who started the flood, the way these two cultures related to the divine, and blank.
The first major difference in these two tales is who initiated the flood. In the genesis account the
flood is initiated by one God, because the Jewish people where monotheistic. This notion of one
god also unifies the twelve tribes of Israel into one people. The ten commandments provide an

In the Genesis account, God s reward for Noah s justness, is that he will be allowed to live, and
his family will repopulate the Earth. I will not again curse the ground any more for man s sake;
for the imagination of man s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more
everything living, as I have done. God s reward to all of humanity is to never destroy the world
again regardless of humanities wickedness and sinfulness. The Jews interpreted these things as the
mercy and forgiveness of God. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Utnapishtim receives a very different
reward then Noah did in Genesis. He touched our forehead and, standing between us, he blessed us:
Previously Utnapishtim was a human being. But now let Utnapishtim and his wife become like us,
the gods! Utnapishtim and his wife were granted immortality, but the rest of the people received
nothing. This again is reflexive of the division that existed in the Mesopotamian region where what
happened to one person or city state did not extend to the others. But the jews in their unified
culture believed that God blessed them all with

Women During World War II
During World War II, the roles of women have forever been changed. Young men and women
decided to marry just before their sweethearts went overseas to fight for their country. As the men
fought abroad, we began to see women on the Home Front encouraged to be more independent
and finding jobs of their own. These females in the United States stepped up to the plate and began
working jobs that many men had before. Women stepped up and began working in factories,
participating in organizations in regards to the war, all while still running things smoothly at home.
While the men were away for battle, women became proficient cooks and housekeepers, managed
the finances, learned to fix the car, worked in a defense plant, and wrote letters to their soldier
husbands.
Women became dominant in the work force during World War II and we saw the roles of the
Hispanic culture specifically go through a huge transformation here in the United States.
Many Latino s were drafted into armed services, which triggered a major migration of Mexicans
into the U.S.
Mexican Americans suffered a high amount of racism and bigotry during World War II and it
reached a breaking point during the Zoot Suit Riots. The Zoot Suit Riots were a series of riots that
took place in East Los Angeles in 1943. Zoot Suiters or pacuchos were the target of U.S.

Dangers Of High School Football
Despite the Fun Football is also Dangerous
Football is an exciting sport for the players and the ones who watch. While at the same time it is
also actually dangerous. It is one of the remarkably unhealthy activities played in the United
States. Nearly all of the people playing football have been injured before, even if it was undersized
like a sprained leg or ankle. It will still eventually cause problems afterward in their lives.
Concussions are known to have the highest rank of injuries. Injuries at a young age are not pleasant
for high school players. Their brains are not developed as much as a college player would be.
College students may redeem themselves after a week, while it takes almost weeks for a high
school student to compensate. The way the coaches choose to run their plays is what causes most
of those incidents. Positions with the greatest risks of injury were running backs and linebackers
(How Dangerous is High School Football? 22). If the coaches would take in the time out to
actually teach the players how hit properly, it would prevent a tremendous amount of injuries.
When players are said to be hurt doing the middle of a game. The coaches motivate them to keep
playing through the injuries most times. While in their future lives that will later affect them.

  • 2. How Did Australia Celebrate The Gallipoli Campaign As Australians, we all know of the Gallipoli Campaign, and to a certain extent the events that occurred, although there are still many uncertainties surrounding it. To properly commemorate the Campaign, first we must understand what really occurred on those shores, years go. Australia was fighting at Gallipoli on account of the British The British planned to knock the Ottoman Empire out of the war by attacking at Gallipoli. The battle started on the 25th of April 1915, which we of course recognize as Anzac day. On this event we tend to try make light of the situation, but the reality is that the outcomes were brutal. As soon as the Anzacs landed they already found themselves at a disadvantage for a number of reasons. The previous naval bombardment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As more Turkish men arrived, the Anzacs lost their opportunity to make a significant advance into the Turkish line. By the end of the first day, the Anzacs had already failed to meet their first day objectives. On this map you can see the red arrow here is where the Anzacs landed. This dotted line shows the objectives they had; this line shows their actual gain. May 1914, the Turkish men made an attempt to break through Anzac lines. This attempt was unsuccessful, resulting in devastating loss on both sides. So much so that the Anzacs and Turkish men both made an agreement to stop fighting for a few hours to bury the dead and collect the wounded. Between the 6th and 10th of August, The British decided to try and a new tactic by breaking the deadlock and attacking Turkish strongholds at Lone Pine and The Nek. The Lone Pine attack was a success for Australia, but resulted in huge costs to both sides. The battle of the Nek had an even worse ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Emily Grierson Hierarchy William Faulkner s short story A Rose for Emily depicts the need for a hierarchy by which to rank and organize individuals by merit of their importance. Class, gender and race each play a vital role in determining the interactions of Jefferson s residents. Notably, these issues affect how Emily Grierson, Homer Barron, and Emily s Negro servant Tobe are treated by the townspeople, as well as their behavior. Together race, gender and class portray and define the characters for who they are and act to elucidate their positions in society. The hierarchy in Jefferson dictates that class supersedes gender, which in turn, supersedes race. At the center of Faulkner s story is Emily Grierson a proper, old fashioned monument to the past. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Emily was considered an aristocrat of sorts in the town, her actions, inappropriate by any other woman, continued without question. In Jefferson, class superseded the stereotypes against a gender, and to an extent even law and logic. With rumors of a romantic relationship between Homer and Emily, the townspeople s first reaction was to reject the notion as folly. The women of the town speculate that a Grierson would not think seriously of a Northerner, a day laborer while the town elders believed that Emily would be unable to forget the noblesse oblige : the obligations of the higher class (Faulkner 311). In the eyes of the town, it would be improper for a woman of such high class to intermingle with a man of lower class. This, along with his affiliation with the Yankees, results in the town turning against Homer, despite his seemingly agreeable personality. Homer and Emily s relationship created changes to the status quo. In turn these changes resulted in the summoning of Emily s sister from Alabama; this decision, later regretted by the town, was a last ditch effort to preserve the conventional order of class within Jefferson. Despite the criticism Emily receives, she chooses to continue in her pursuit of Homer, demonstrating her continued indifference to the opinions of those around her, a benefit available to her because of her social class. Despite the abolishment of slavery across the United States in 1865, racism plays a role in the portrayal and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is no much social literature about this concept before 1910. In 1915, C.J Galpin is the first one who coins it, offering a clear sociological definition . It was used to demarcate the small rural communities in terms of service area and trade surrounding a central village. (Harper and Dunham 1959). This first attempt of defining the community, was quickly followed by various competing definitions. Some of them described community as a geographical area, others, focused on community as a group of people living and sharing a particular location, place, while another category, looked at it as a common area of life. • 5. Book Review of People of the Three Fires Essay Book Review of People of the Three Fires The book, People of the Three Fires, is written by three different people each describing a tribe in detail. The book is very well written and relatively easy to understand. It is informative and was written to be used as a teaching tool for schools. The book discusses the relationship between the groups that lived in Michigan and surrounding areas. James M. McClurken writes the first section, which deals with the Ottawa people. McClurken tells about the Ottawa peoples relationship with the environment they lived in and how they adapted to change when contacted by Europeans. One thing I found interesting about the Ottawa is their beliefs. The Ottawa believed in respect for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This worries me somewhat because I think the house in which we live was part of the land given to the Ottawa in the Treaty of 1855. While I feel bad that the Ottawa were cheated out of their land, I don t think I should have to give up my house to right a 150 year old wrong. Dr. James A. Clifton wrote the Pottawatomi section of People of the Three Fires. Clifton discusses the same aspects of Potawatomi life as McClurken for the Ottawa. An interesting group of people the Potawatomi held a certain advantage as they moved south from northern Michigan. Because they were neighbors of the Chippewa and Ottawa they had the knowledge that tribes further south did not have. The Potawatomi knew how to build birch bark canoes so trade was far easier for them than for the Sauk or Fox. They thrived on the Mexican Trinity of beans corn and squash. They were also accomplished hunters and fishermen. In the beginning they were farmers but they soon became interested in the herds of buffalo that roamed the plains just south of them. Then no meal was complete without some red meat. A description that I took to heart was that on page 50 explaining the balancing act preformed by the leaders of the groups and the French. The Rising Action Of The Crucible By Arthur Miller The plot of a literary work is defined as the main events (storyline) of, in this case, a play, or novel, movie, etc., devised and presented by the writer as an interrelated sequence. The plot generally consists of an exposition, a main conflict, rising action, climactic event, falling action, and a resolution. By this point in the play, Act III is beginning already in the rising action of the play. Miller makes reading the concluding acts a rollercoaster ride by developing the plot uniquely and particularly, making the reader eager for more. • 7. Comparing Farris And Morrison s Analysis Farris presents himself as someone with a lot of knowledge on environmental issues, views ANWR as a scenic area that should continue to be preserved, and describes oil companies as holding mistaken views backed with faulty logic. Morrison presents herself as a valid representation of the Alaskan people, views ANWR as a beautiful landscape with a rich variety of life, and portrays oil companies as greedy people just using Alaska for profit. Although Farris and Morrison share similar views, Farris language has sarcastic undertones while criticizing the ANWR plan while Morrison s has more urgent and serious undertones. Irish Cases that Discuss the Meaning of Intention Essay Irish Cases that Discuss the Meaning of Intention There are only two reported Irish cases which discuss the meaning of intention, one in the context of attempted murder, and the other in the context of capital murder. Accordingly, as this state of mind was held to be a species of malice aforethought, it was not strictly necessary to decide whether the accused actually intended to kill or cause grievous bodily harm. Nevertheless, various views were expressed as to whether foresight of probable consequences would amount to intention in the strict sense. Lord Hailsham adopted the definition of intention laid down by Asquith L.J. in the civil case of Cunliffe v Goodman: An intention , to my mind, connotes a state of affairs which the party intending ...does more than merely contemplate. It connotes a state of affairs which, on the contrary, he decides, so far as in him lies, to bring about, and which, in point of possibility, he has a reasonable prospect of being able to bring about by his own act of volition. Lord Hailsham also indicated that foresight of probable consequences was not the same as intention. Although foresight of probable consequences (or degrees of likelihood) was an essential factor that should be placed before the jury in determining whether the consequences were intended, the two concepts were distinct. Although Viscount Dilhorne did not find it necessary to decide whether knowledge of a high probability constituted the necessary intention, he inclined towards the view that such knowledge did constitute the necessary intention. ... • 10. The Growing Concerns And Uncertainties Over Joshua s... The growing concerns and uncertainties over Joshua s leadership spiraled in Deuteronomy, and God ordered Moses to encourage Joshua. The result is an abundance of inspiring texts that Joshua surely needed (Angel, 2009): Joshua son of Nun, who attends you, he shall enter it. Imbue him with strength, for he shall allot it to Israel (Deuteronomy 1:38). Give Joshua his instructions, and imbue him with strength and courage, for he shall go across at the head of this people, and he shall allot to them the land that you may only see (Deuteronomy 3:28). Then Moses called Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel: Be strong and resolute, for it is you who shall go with this people into the land that the Lord swore to their fathers to give them, and it is you who shall apportion it to them (Deuteronomy 31:7). And He charged Joshua son of Nun: Be strong and resolute: for you shall bring the Israelites into the land that I promised them on oath, and I will be with you (Deuteronomy 31:23). These fears are carried over into the Book of Joshua. After Moses died, God encouraged Joshua to be strong and resolute three times in four verses (Angel, 2009): Be strong and resolute, for you shall apportion to this people the land that I swore to their fathers to assign to them. But you must be very strong and resolute to observe faithfully all the Teaching that My servant Moses enjoined upon you . . . . • 11. Journey s End by R.C Sherriff. How does Journey s End show the effects of war on the men involved? Journey s End is a play about British soldiers in World War One, and the effects the war has on them, both physically and mentally. The play explores many aspects of war life, including friendship, alcoholism, class boundaries and the lifestyle of the men in the trenches. This essay explores how the play shows the effects of war on those involved, looking at use of dialogue, lighting, props and other key dramatic devices. The essay will mainly focus on Act 3, Scene 2 of the play, but relevant quotes from other scenes in Journey s End will also be used to help illustrate points. Raleigh s first reaction upon entering the trenches (Act 1) is that of surprise. He has been expecting more noise and excitement, and says to Osborne, How frightfully quiet it is! To begin with, Raleigh is very eager to go out and fight, but Osborne s death after the raid has a big effect on him. He cannot understand how the men can sit, eating fine food and drinking champagne ,when one of their closest companions has been killed. However, Raleigh does not realise that the reason why they are doing this is to try and help themselves to forget the tragedy that has occurred, and to boost morale amongst the men. Raleigh has misunderstood the situation, and only realises his error at the end of Act 3 Scene 2, when Stanhope shouts, You think there s no limit to what a man can bear? Raleigh tries to apologise, but Stanhope is too incensed with rage to listen. By the end of that particular scene, even though Raleigh has only been at war for a week, he is already a changed person. His short battle experience has erased whatever distorted expectations he has had before, and he now knows about the harsh realities of life in the trenches. We know this because of his obvious change in mood and personality by Act 3 Scene 2 he says a lot less than he has beforehand, and stage directions tell us at one point, Raleigh speaks in a low, halting voice . It is very obviously a large and influential force in the western world so it is hardly surprising that a novel such as One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, which is so questioning of our society and moral values, should be so full of references to what is arguably the basis of these values. What the question asks, however, is if the character of McMurphy is portrayed as a Christ figure. Also remaining on the topic of the figures, Cassatt s figure is more conservatively dressed and seems of a distinct class and taste while Sargent s figure is dressed in a slick tight sleeveless dress which was the main source of controversy that surrounded this piece. The use of color is also what definitely sets these two works apart and gives them such opposing vibes. Mary Cassatt s The Cup of Tea handles light and color a lot more vibrantly. The color palate is light in value and showcases primarily pastel colors and warm colored skin while Sargent s piece is darker in value with pale ghostly colored skin. • 16. Speciation in the Butterfly Essay Recent studies into the genome of the various Heliconius butterflies, has shown a clear indication of the process of speciation. Speciation is usually thought of as a long term process, just like the process of evolution. Very few changes to the genome are needed to create the possibility of a new species evolving even if the original species is still in contact and reproducing. Once the changes to the genome have begun, the evolutionary divergence is a rapid process that results in a new genetically isolated species. Speciation is the divergence of a population into different species. There are two forms of speciation; allopatric, where physical or environmental factors can cause a population to form a new species, or sympatric, where a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Researchers have analyzed the genome of two subspecies of the Heliconius butterfly having only recently diverged into subspecies in order to locate the genetic differences that are the critical points for speciation. These two subspecies are still able to interbreed and are located in the similar ecological habitats; therefore these butterflies will be able to experience a small amount of genetic exchange. This ability of regular exchange causes the unimportant variants in the process of speciation to become silent the researchers found that this allowed them to locate the main genetic areas that natural selection has influenced. In the research they determined that the two Heliconius butterfly species genome had only 12 differing regions and the rest of the genome was nearly identical. Of the 12 differences eight of these they found to code for the wing color patterning, a key trait as it affects mating and avoiding predators in their perspective environments, the other four were still yet undetermined. In a second test they compared the two previous genomes to a third Heliconius species. The third species was farther removed on the evolutionary time scale but was still closely related to the previous groups. The comparison showed the genomes to have hundreds of differences; they concluded that once the initial genetic changes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Alice Munro s Boys and Girls , is a short story about a young girl whose view of herself and role in society, is warped by her experiences with her family and on her father s farm. As she grows up, the unnamed narrator is troubled by the notion of what it means to be a girl, which is brought about by both internal and external influences. The people around her begin viewing her differently, she begins viewing everyone differently, but more importantly she begins viewing herself differently. In many of her dreams she s the bold courageous hero; rescuing civilians, galloping on a horse, and fighting wolves. It might be a boy from our class at school, or even Mr. Campbell, our teacher, who tickled girls under the arms. And at this point the story concerned itself at great length with what I looked like by the time I had these details worked out the real excitement of the story was lost (Munro). Her stories started out with her being the hero but they morph into the damsel in distress trope. She is no longer the courageous one but the one being rescued. The Damsel in distress trope is damaging to young girls and all women. It overused in society; movies, stories, and novels. It greatly affects the minds of women, making them believe that they can t be the hero and that they ll always run into trouble or be kidnapped etc and have a strong male figure come to their rescue. The intrinsic value of Facebook stock was very difficult to find, since the company is relatively new and has been growing at an extreme rate. Based on the most recent sale of Facebook stockvia a private transaction the per share price was $44 in March. However, based on the DCF analysis by professor Aswath Damodaran the intrinsic value of a single Facebook share would be $32.44. The problem is whenever using DCF analysis; the analysis is very sensitive to all assumptions uses, which were plenty in the case of Facebook. The price talk from underwriters varied immensely within the time from of February when the Red Herring was filed, all the way to May. Knowing that demand for the stock was said to be growing it was noted that many IPO are priced conservative to leave room for a pop on the first day of trading. Using tools from class activities like SWOT and True Colors that helped me really understand who I am and what are my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Within this essay I will share with you my SWOT analysis and the things I learned about myself during the last few weeks. Strengths Personal values I believe speak a great deal about a person and who they are and I learned that my values reflect just that. During New Start we had an activity in class that forced us to pick from a list of personal values and narrow them down and rank them in order of importance. My top values included family, friends, school, and independence just to name a few. This activity was especially challenging for me but in the end it helped me really look at what truly is important to me. I had to apply this lesson from class in my life sooner than I expected. My grandmother passed away during New Start and I had to decide if I wanted to miss school and be with family but that also meant by missing school I d be missing out on important information. In the end I choose to go to school the next day and be with my family afterwards. That decision alone was very hard because in a situation such as mine there was a conflict of my personal values my family is very important to me but school is just as important to me. Although it was difficult for me to make that decision but the fact I had the ability to choose between two of my own personal values is why I ve chosen to place knowing and understanding my personal values as a strength. I know that throughout life there will be times when I will have to choose once again between my personal values and as student like I ve mentioned earlier I m going to make those decisions based on what matters to me and what won t always be there in the end. Another point against religious exemptions as they are advocated by Bou Habib is that we are meant to be equal before the law, so to exempt certain categories of people to obey the law is undermining the concept of justice and equality. In addition, most of the time laws are justified, meaning that exemptions are not. For example, in many countries, including some in which Islam is the predominant religion, such as Chad, it is forbidden to hide one s face in public areas for security reasons. So religious exemptions allowing the wearing of burkas would undermine the efforts made to securitize societies, as it enables fugitives to hide easily amongst many other things.
